2. Concert Report For A Wind Concert
Eric Fang, Wind Symphony Concert Report On Friday, October twenty second, Simi Valley
High School had their fall concert, however, they only had two bands so there was not much to
write about. The concert band opened up with, Apparitions, by Brian Balmages, which was a
song with a very mysterious intro with the percussion. The song is later developed into a
soprano winds melody which was very well balanced with its counter and support. Unfortunately
before a very beautiful, yet eerie flute solo they were somewhat out of tune, and during it, the
flutes were talking to each other. Later, the soprano melody turns into a brass dominated scene,
with the trumpets being slightly too loud and overtaking the rest of the band. Overall, the piece
was very well executed with great attacks, releases, and flow. However there was little to no
vibrato in the song. After that song, The Magician s Secret, by Joseph Eidson was stated by a
flute squeak, but evens out into a nice jumpy beginning. Throughout the many brass and high
winds chords, they were mostly out of tune, but the pulsing and tempo was very well done and
controlled which gave the theme of smoothness and elegance. While the band was going great
with strong and obvious dynamics, one of the trumpets messed up and showed it. Luckily, a great
story of adventure and curiosity manage to cover him up and retain the moving melody. As the
song ended, I personally felt the end was a bit too staccato and the overall song had no

3. The Abolition Of The Brazilian Slaves Essay
The Abolition of the Brazilian Slaves
Slavery in the Americas started with Christopher Columbus at the end of his first voyage, west of
the Atlantic. When Columbus saw the Indians (as he called them) and he thought they would
make great servants to overlords in Europe. The author writes, he promised to bring Ferdinand
and Isabella as many slaves as they required (Nowara 10). This was a suitable proposition because
the lifestyle of slavery was already embedded in the minds of the Europeans during the medieval
times. The Portuguese and the Spanish were already using slaves from Africa while Columbus was
discovering the Americas and the Caribbean. During sometime between 500 A.D 1500; the
Iberian Peninsula became a gateway for slavery after Spanish and Portuguese kingdoms drove out
Muslim kingdoms and battled them in the North of Africa. Another place that was conquered by
the Portuguese was Morocco and the city of Ceuta which was a strait in the peninsula. Giving the
Portuguese control and power of trade routes of gold and slaves. This soon brought the Portuguese
west and down Africa coastline. But African slaves was already well known in parts of west and
central Africa. The author writes slavery was a well rooted institution in the African societies with
which they traded (Nowara 12).
There is proof of trade routes dating before the Atlantic slave routes, coming from the Saharan and
Indian Ocean region. But the Atlantic slavery trade routes had a lot more captives

There are several significant planning considerations the DOD must identify and incorporate when
providing support to domestic law enforcement agencies during counterdrug operations. Firstly,
DOD support to counterdrug operations is part of a whole of government effort to eliminate the

detection and monitoring (D M) of aerial and maritime transit of illegal drugs into the US as
outlined in the National Defense Authorization Acts of 1990 and 1991. The desired end result of D

5. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
The Holocaust is a subject that in most states are a required element of curriculum. Many choose
to teach a version that does not include the graphic nature and torture that Jews withstood. Instead
of give lecture or text based assignments many use movies to show the Holocaust, for their easier
for children to understand. Issues that could arise would be if they are able to understand that not
every story portrayed in a movie is an actual event and that some aspects are fictional while some
are truthful. It is essential that teachers ensure their students are aware of the function that the
movies is supposed to serve. In the Boy in the Stripped Pajamas, there are scenes that include
extreme force being used against Jews, at one point even being used against the little boy, Shmuel,
for eating food that was not meant for him. Another scene shows how the teacher meant for their
homeschooling was teaching them that there is no such thing as a good Jew and that they are all
inherently bad. Bruno fails to believe that a child, or anyone can be seen as bad when they have
not done anything. Bruno is the voice of the human conscious that is lacking from German
perpetrators. A Jew is not someone who is born evil and they are not all trying to bring about the
destruction of the Aryan race. The movie is very apt at showing the human side of the Holocaustand
showing to others that pain does not discriminate based on race or any socioeconomic category. At

8. Luciano Farnese Essay
Palazzo Farnese, as designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, is still one of Rome s most
impressive palaces. It was built in a time where there were several guidelines established for
Renaissance architecture, which show in the way the palace was designed. The façade is
perfectly symmetrical and several elements in the plan are symmetrical as well. The palace has
three levels, which was characteristic for Renaissancepalaces. Unlike earlier Renaissance palaces,
all levels have the same height in the Farnese palace.
There is a great amount of rhythm in the façade, as all the, finely detailed, windows are aligned
for the three floors, with an exception made for the central axis, where the entrance and the balcony

The Cardinal s room, the most important room in the building, is located on the corner of the
first floor, where the Cardinal had the view over entire square as well. The building is
surmounted with a big cornice, of a size that emphasizes the power the building expresses. The
quoins on the side show an ending to the building, which in combination with the cornice form a
sort of frame, there can be no mistake made about the independence of the building. The pilasters
on the outside are of Ionian order on the first floor, and Corinthian order on the top floor. Around
the courtyard, the same orders were used, but with an added Tuscan order for the elements on the
ground floor.
From the outside, as seen from the piazza Farnese, you can definitely call the Palazzo Farnese a
true urban palace. It has an appearance of power, which was established by the fact the Pope used
to inhabit the palace. The position of the building, with the big square in front of it and no other
buildings of a similar size besides it, only confirms the status of urban palace. Although it does not
have a perfectly symmetrical interior, the majestic exterior makes sure nobody underestimates the

What:
The construction of the RMS Titanic started on March 31, 1909 in Belfast, North Ireland and cost
$7.5 million. The man who designed it was a naval architect named Thomas Andrews. The ship
was built to be the world s largest passenger steamship, along with two other ships, the Olympic
and Britanic. Although the ship has always been known to many as unsinkable, it was actually
never supposed to be advertised like that. Extra measures were put into the ship to insure safety,
for example, if four watertight compartments out of the 16 were flooded, the ship would still
stay afloat. Even though all these precautions were made, who would have ever thought that a
single iceberg could cause such a huge devastation. The ship set sail on April 10, 1912 from
Southampton, England and on its way to New York. The total passengers were around 2,200
people, including a crew of around 900. The passengers were divided into certain classes

When Rivera called Talcott the following day (January 11) and stated that he needed a smaller
sum, $5,700, there was no mention as to how the difference was to be returned to Talcott. Talcott
immediately canceled the check and issued a new check for deposit. At the point that Rivera told
Talcott that the $10,000 check was not needed, he should have returned or destroyed the check.
Further, Talcott should not have issued another check until he was assured that the first check
would not be deposited. Any Kind Checks, Inc. appears to have had an internal policy to verify the
authenticity of checks over $2,000. Further, since the check was being cashed by a third party, this
demonstrates that Any Kind Checks, Inc. had even more reason to do their due diligence and verify.

11. Strength And Weaknesses Of Unitary Government In The...
The United States of America declared freedom from Great Britain in 1776. There were thirteen
colonies that decided to arrange a necessary government. After battling the difficulties of living
under a monarchy, the Founding Fathers have set up a Federation with ideas of foreign
governments: unitary and confederal. The American Federalism government, Unitary, and
Confederal government have strength and weaknesses in running countries. Countries such as
Switzerland and Cuba use a Unitarian government system (Unitary State Countries, 2015 2018). A
Unitary government is very small centralized and controls the legal and moral legislation for both
the state and the country (Apecsecadmin 2015). The most damaging result of this system is the
lack of clear communication between the government and citizens. This type of government cannot
identify or respond quickly to a direct issue within a local city or state. The advantages, however on
the other hand do allow for prompt judgments for the entire country, this includes passing laws and

The Confederal system was made up the first thirteen colonies that saw themselves as their own
countries. The states had the ability to create treaties with each other. The Articles of Confederal
were able to win the war against Britain and declare national freedom. The advantage and
disadvantage of a confederal system is to avert a strong central government. The lack of a strong
government causes a loose relationship between the states, thus the inability to enforce tax
collections or laws. A weak government on the other hand, cannot abuse the powers causing a
tyranny ruling of the individual states (Kelly 2017). The vision of the confederal system was to
keep the power at home and allow states to share directly with the citizens. This form of
government is considered the transformation period (Greengarbage

The RKO studios, one of the eight companies of the oligopoly, premiered King Kong at the
Radio City Music Hall in New York King Kong is well known for its groundbreaking use of
special effects such as stop motion, animation, matte painting, rear projection, and miniatures,
all of which were conceived decades before the digital age. King Kong has been credited as one
of the first movies that was ever produced that incorporated sequences of miniatures to re enact
the first special effects ever shot in films. The editors used rear projected images that were put
up one frame at the time using a tiny screen that was built into the miniatures and they would
advance frame by frame having the animation in the front while photographing each scene. The
two common technical practices that were used to create special effects back in the days were
rear projections (also called back projection) or optical printing (Thompson and Bordwell 221).
The King Kong film integrated human actors and stop motion puppets into the same shots.
Special effects would become a very important feature of future science fiction productions. King
Kong, as well as some early fiction movies attempts, became the base to experiment different
ways and techniques for creating new fantastic worlds. There are a lot of ways to look at the genre
of science fiction because no definitional consensus of the term has been reached among scholars.

and in its possible cultural representations. As Carl Freedman in his book, Critical Theory and

Standardized Test Are a Waste of Time According to Diane Ravitch, Sometimes, the most brilliant
and intelligent minds do not shine in standardized tests because they do not have standardized
minds. Her point is that not every students mind operates the same way, so one test that all students
must take does not measure the student s actually abilities. Across the United States, standardized
testing is a popular method used to measure a student s academic ability and their college
admission. These exams have multiple choice questions and sometimes a writing section, which the
examiners must complete in a certain amount of time. Every year the tests get harder and harder,
which causes anxiety in the students. Standardized testing does not measure the skills students
have learned and their intelligence from school and life. The main purpose of testing is to set a
standard and have a baseline for the knowledge taught and students should know for everyone

Schools should put more emphasis on the growth and development of a student, instead of ranking

History of Police Bike Patrol:
Over one hundred years ago, police departments routinely patrolled cities and towns by bicycle.
The bike was tremendously popular only until the advent of the automobile. The bicycle then
disappeared from policing. It wasn t until the late 1980 s that the bicycle made a comeback. In
1988, Sergeant Paul Grady of the Seattle Police Department convinced his superiors that mountain
bikes could be a viable patrol vehicle in the congested downtown area, waterfront parks, and market

Community Policing:
Problem Oriented Patrols are accomplished by concerted and consistent enforcement in four steps.
1. Identification of problems and problem areas.
2. Developing alternatives to solve the problem.
3. Initiating corrective action.
4. Evaluating operational success.
Problem Identification:
Initially the objective is to identify problem areas, and groups. Develop intelligence on when,
where, and how the problem is occurring. Reviewing calls for service, incident reports, interviewing
and utilizing surveillance helps determine violation patterns.
Developing Solutions:
Based on the information gathered in the first phase, a plan is developed using creative methods,
and concentrated efforts to target the causes of the problem. An effective way of developing
solutions is to hold a brainstorming session with field personnel. Develop a list of options, then
evaluate each option for success potential. An action plan should be developed from this idea,
utilizing patrol methods, which will be most efficient.
Taking Action:
The third phase is

Introduction
The Ekofisk oil field is one of the offshore giant oil field of the north sea with an estimated 6.9
billion barrels of original oil in place. It is located at Block 2/4 in the Norwegian part of the
North Sea which is about 300 kilometers southwest of Stavanger. Ekofisk has a few licensed

The discovery of Ekofisk oil field was announced in December 1969. The discovery was a
turning point for oil exploration in the North Sea as it gave hope to the oil industry. Although
the exploration in the North Sea was triggered by the discovery of the giant gas field, Groningen,
but the effort in search for commercial oil rapidly declines after drilling over 200 exploratory

20. The Heroism Of The Men
Throughout history there have been wars; battles are fought over a woman, Helen of Troy, over
land, religion, and family feuds (the Hatfield and McCoy feud). War and its aftermath are never
pretty unless penned by authors who never step into a battlefield. Lives are lost, our fathers,
mothers, sons, and daughters have all sacrificed for their causes. Lord AlfredTennyson
romanticized the of notion war and of the battle that was fought on the battlefield in his poem The
Charge of the Light Brigade, subsequently, the intent of battle was for the glory of a cause or
nation and to remember the bravery of those who fought. On the other, hand Wilfred Owen s poem
Dulce et Decorum Estwas the opposite, anti romanticism of war, he too did not want the bravery of
the men to be lost forever. Each of the poems praised the heroism of the men, one written in a
military cadence, and the other written to emphasize the exhaustion and what by now have become
the mundane reality of war and the horrific deaths these men suffered. Lord Alfred Tennyson
romanticized the notion of war, of the battles that were fought in the battlefields and trenches in his
poem The Charge of the Light Brigade. Tennyson s poem portrays the war in a positive light,
encourages a sense of patriotism, and at the end of the poem reminds people that the men who
fought in the war were honorable. It was apparent in the reading that Tennyson was fascinated with

22. Critical Analysis Of The Raven
Within the poem The Raven written by Edgar Allen Poe, is a speaker who lives alone. The speaker
within the poem must confront the reality of his circumstances, by admitting the death of his wife
named Lenore. Throughout the poem, Edgar Allen Poe describes the vicious cyclical combat of
grief through the speaker, as he imagines faint whispering and tapping on his door. Within his
psychotic episodes, the speaker witnesses a talking raven. The ravenacts as a symbol of truth
concerning the death of Lenore. Only to leave the speaker with the inability to accept his wife s
death.
Throughout the poem, Poe emphasizes characteristics of the speaker through the setting. The

This is due to the raven, ultimately linking the internal conflict of the speaker. The relationship
between the speaker s grieving process is seen through the speaker s perspective of the raven.
Because the raven represents the death of Lenore, Poe first introduces the raven within the poem
as a sudden, and fright full event. The uncertain rustling of each purple curtain catches the
speaker off guard, as it thrill[s] [him] fill[s] [him] with fantastic terrors never felt before (13 14).
By introducing the raven in a frightful manner, Poe implies that Lenore s death was sudden and
terrifying for the speaker. So sudden and terrifying, that the speaker must still the beating of [his]
heart (15). Which explains why the speaker distracts himself with the volume[s] of forgotten lore
within the first stanza; and explains why the speaker is suddenly intrigued with [the] visitor
entreating entrance at [his] door (2,16). To comfort himself, the speaker attempts to speak to the
visitor, only to find darkness there, and nothing more (24). By leaving the speaker alone with his
thoughts, Poe is emphasizing the speaker s loneliness and hints towards the speaker s grieving
process. Although it may seem as if the speaker admits to the death of his wife long I stood there

In the book, The Land of Stories A Grimm Warning by Chris Colfer, the main character, Rook,
changes throughout the book due to the conflicts he faces.
To show this, in the beginning of the book Rook was helping out the fairies, or more importantly
Alex; the Fairy Godmother in training. He would go on walks with her and he later helped her
figure out why Little Bo Peep wanted to become the next queen on Red Riding Hood Kingdom. I
was going to suggest that if you re curious about Little Bo Peep s intentions, we could sneak onto
her farmand have a look around. (Colfer 135). In this piece of evidence Rook is helping Alex go
see what Little Bo Peep could be upto. He and Alex then go to her farm and look around. He
helped her discover something she otherwise might not have been able to without the help of his
idea. Rook and Alex did have a crush on each other and that could have been why he wanted to do
this as something to impress her, but he helped her nonetheless. Without the help of Rook Alex
could have never found this out. She pulled him behind a giant patch of tulips and threw her
arms around his neck. She had held it together very well, but Rook was the only person she didn t
feel like she had to be brave in front of. (Colfer 311). In this piece of evidence Alex had just had
one of the hardest days of her life. When she saw Rook she immediately felt joy for one of the first

When it comes to comparing and contrasting two different cultures and morals the differences can
be night and day. In Death Of A Salesman and Fences, these stories follow two middle class
families around the same time period (late 1940 1950 s), who are both facing problems within their
own household s. From marital issues to failing father/son relationships, both of these stories paint a
picture to the audience of what life in an urban familyliving in that time setting was like through
the author s eyes. And even yet with all the things between these two plays that make them alike,
there are also many things that make them very different. In Fences we follow Troy Maxon, an ex

Unlike Willy and Linda, who seem to put more attention towards Biff than Happy. So it seems that
the boys all have similarities between them but the way they are treated by their mother and father
are where the differences lay.
In Death Of A Salesman Willy treats his wife Linda, as though he does not appreciate her. He
talks to her disrespectfully and even ignores her on occasion, and even though he does this
blatantly she still stands by his side and acts as his support. In Fences Troy treats his wife Rose
with a certain amount of respect but when he does step out of line Rose is not the one to take it. A
perfect example of this would be the fact that both men had found a way to have an extramarital
affair, and both for validations reasons. Linda chose to ignore the fact that Willy was having an
affair. By ignoring what was happening, Linda did not have to admit to herself what was going on,
and saved herself some difficult choices. Linda was not strong enough to make those choices.

26. Causes And Effects Of Air Pollution
Imagine having your life cut short by at least ten years. This is the reality for many people who
are constantly exposed to high levels of air pollution. In the midwestern United States, members
of the Teamsters Union are at a higher risk of lung cancer. These union members are truck
drivers and mechanics who simply work their hardest every day to make a living. They haul
heavy equipment or material to construction sites or warehouses. Workers may have to load and
unload equipment as well as repair any problems the vehicles have. Similar to the average
American, they work many hours a day and spend even more hours on the road driving and
hauling equipment from place to place. Their trucks are mostly diesel, which emit high levels of
carbon. The present day levels of elemental carbon in truck cabs were slightly higher on average
than highway background but on average 4 times greater than those in residential neighborhoods
in the Midwest (Cohen 220). A study completed by Dr. Eric Garshick consisted of 31,000
members who worked for the Teamsters Union in 1981 and showed how many deaths could be
caused by pollution. Dr. Garshick took a look at the National Death Registry in 2001 to find how
many of the members had died The results were shocking. The men in the study were all older
than thirty nine years old who have served at least one year in the union. Smoking was taken into

myths about our judicial system, some of which that hold some truth, and others that are
inaccurate. In this paper, I will provide history about the type of court structure in Illinois, the
process in which judges and lawyers are selected within the state, and how judges and lawyers are
disciplined. To begin, Illinois was admitted to statehood in 1818. In its original Constitution, the
following was outlined: Every person ought to find a certain remedy in the laws for all injuries and

In order to become a lawyer in Illinois, as I aspire to be, one must first attend an undergraduate
institute to obtain a degree. Next, for formal legal study, one must enter law school to obtain a

Law School Admission Test (LSAT) as an entry exam to law school. The LSAT is offered four
times throughout the year, and consists of three sections which are: logical reasoning, analytical
reasoning, reading comprehension, and a writing sample. Hence, this test predicates how one will

Abstract
With the increasing dependency on wireless networks, the need for proper reliability analysis for
Mobile ad hoc networks (Manets) is also increasing. Failure of Manets in areas like warfare,
nuclear reactors, medical equipment and airplanes can lead to catastrophe. Unlike traditional
networks, measuring the reliability of Manets is a tedious task as it involves dynamically changing
topology. The existing methods for calculating reliability use two terminal analysis as the basis for
calculation. It uses the same method used for traditional computer networks to calculate reliability.
However, the method is not very efficient when it comes to the wireless networks as they are far
different from traditional networks. It is also a time consuming task to identify all the nodes and
links in a wireless network as nodes move freely in the network. In This paper, We are going to
discuss about NLN(Node Link Node) technique which reduces the complexity of analyzing the
reliability in Manets.

two were proactive in the fight. Their different characteristics, but similar goal helped the US reach

33. Family Dynamics In The Metamorphosis
The Perils of Family Dynamics as it relates to The Metamorphosis
Pam (Lawson) Beaver
Belhaven University
Family Dynamics The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka represents the selfish views of family.
Kafka transforms Gregory, the son, into a dung beetle to show how members of the family evolve
and adjust due to life changing events. Traditionally, when families overcome hardships, a
stronger bond is formed between the members of the familial unit. In this story, Kafka takes the
family on a journey of life, one day wonderful and the next full of strife. Kafka s view as portrayed
in The Metamorphosis is that family, when faced with difficult change, sometimes transforms
from a harmonious unit into its selfish individual components. The first narcissistic is the
parents and the expectation of Gregory to provide. The first indication of self centeredness is
the parents expectation that their son should provide for the household. When his mother
arrives at his bedroom door to remind him he has to go to work, Gregory tried to get out of bed,
realizing something has happened to him. Others in the home become alarmed that he is not
rising as expected, so first his father comes to check on him, then his sister, who whispers
Gregory, open the door, please (Kafka, 2006, p.1968). Kafka reveals the family dynamics
throughout the story and how each individual fits into the entity. Gregory s sister, in the
beginning, is concerned for his well being. However, she relies on him for her everyday needs,
so her self indulgent motives become clear. The mother, on the other hand, is bossy and distant.
The father is overbearing, depressed, and dependent on his son financially. The main concern of
the familial body is getting Gregory out the door and to work so that he can make a paycheck
and the individuals can continue in the roles each has absorbed. The second selfish observance is
the way the family reacts when Gregory becomes a burden, creating more work for them around
the house. Even the hired maid asks on bended knee to be discharged immediately (Kafka, 2006, p.
1979). Kafka is quick to change the dynamics of the household designating chores and cooking to
the mother and daughter, and assigning the

his Philosophy paper. Aside from the obvious answer of using material items to generate
happiness, the question drove me consider what made someone s life inherently good. A few
days after our conversation, I read Open Door by Rebecca Solnit. This passage helped me to
eventually answer his question. Throughout Open Door, Solnit defines, exemplifies and reasons,
and explores the ideas of losing one s self in order to achieve the good life. Understanding what it
means to lose one s self is imperative in order to comprehend the rest of this passage. The idea of
losing yourself is, a voluptuous surrender, lost in your arms, lost to the world, utterly immersed in
what is present so that its surroundings fade away (Solnit 16). Taking part in losing yourself will
allow you to find answers to what is unknown to you. The journey to the unknown and the
unknown itself are transformative; however, many individuals do not care for the unknown or are
unaware of it. Those who do not care for the unknown typically fear for what it will bring. In today
s society, adults restrict their children to playing indoors rather than developing an adventurous and
imaginative persona outside of the house, for they believe their children will hurt themselves. Solnit
expresses her concern for this generation by wondering what will come of placing this generation

Where Things Come Back is an odd tale about the way loss can affect people. A young man by

idealistic about seeing your only cousin ghost white and stone dead. It is a metaphor because it
refers Oslo as ghost white and stone dead without using like or as as descriptors. The author of

37. A Letter From The Birmingham Jail
The primary goal of a sermon in church is to convince or persuade the congregation to turn to
God and follow his ways and beliefs. A sermon is commonly broken up into several subsections
beginning with (1) an introduction to establish a common ground of religious feeling ; (2) a
statement of the text which is often drawn directly from the Bible; (3) the body of the sermon,
which consists of repeated emotional climaxes; and (4) the conclusion which resolves the
emotional tension aroused by the sermon by drawing the sinners to God. (Pipes 143). Based on
these characteristics and King s religious background and experience as a preacher, it is logical
to argue that the structure of A Letter from the Birmingham Jail resembles that of a sermon which
is aimed at an audience much larger than that of just eight clergymen. Through his brilliant use of
persuasive methods and emotional appeal, Martin Luther King turns a simple response to a letter
into a national cause for white support to combat segregation. He begins his letter by stating that
he is writing this letter while confined here in the Birmingham City Jail (King 2). However
although one in such conditions for being wrongly convicted and forced to write this within small
jail walls would be expected to be hostile, King s tone is instead calm and patient. He addresses
his attackers as my dear fellow clergymen (2). And even apologized that they expressed different
opinions (3). This, to an open audience, gives

Katniss Everdeen lives in district 12 and competes in the yearly Hunger Games. She is not given
a choice in this matter. Once she wins, she rebels against the government and fights to fix the

then discovers she is Divergent, a rare trait that could lead to being disowned by her society. This

The Hunger Games, A book series by Suzanne Collins, differs in few ways from Veronica Roth s

Should the Renaissance be considered a big change in history? The Renaissance was a time of
Rebirth. This time allowed new ideas to flow that would make education grow to be much more
accurate and correct. The Renaissance change man s view of man with the introduction of new
ideas, such as art, literature, and science.
One big change that was widespread was art. The Renaissance introduced the idea of oil painting,
which made paintings look realistic in size. Before the Renaissance, paintings were dull, and
unrealistic. But one famous person named Leonardo Da Vinci, painted a highly realistic painting of
a smiling woman commonly known as the Mona Lisa. Also, Leonardo was not the only painter in
the Renaissance. In conclusion, there were many more painters other than him, and they all had an
effect on art for a long time.
Another change was literature. Literature in this context means plays, books, and poetry. Before the
Middle Ages, illiteracy was widespread, because few people had access to books. Luckily, the
invention of the printing press increased the amount of time it took to copy books. Also, many
writers flourished in the Renaissance, such as William Shakespeare, who wrote some of the most

In order to develop the illusion of being surrounded by an authentic sun, Eliasson used humidifiers,
monochromatic lamps, and a giant aluminum frames lined with mirror foil covered the entire
ceiling. The humidifiers were used to develop a fine mist resembling the air on a foggy day, the
monochromatic lamps were used to radiate immense yellow tinted light, and the mirrors on the
ceiling were used to create shadows of the visitors making them out to be minuscule black dots
facing a mass of man made sunlight.

44. Example Of Pathos In Outliers
There is something profoundly wrong with the way we make sense of success (Gladwell 18). In
Outliers Malcolm Gladwell is trying to convince his audience that they misunderstand how
people become successful. Many believe one only needs hard work and determination in order
to achieve success. However, Gladwell complicates this idea by explaining that hard work and
determination is not how people become successful and instead, it is all about the opportunities
one is given that decides if he or she is successful or not. Gladwell uses the rhetorical appeals of
pathos and ethos in order to persuade his audience to accept his idea of the process of becoming
successful. Pathos appeals to the reader s emotions by using emotional stories and imagery. Pathos
strategies are often used to grab and hold the reader s attention. Emotional or personal stories give
the reader an opportunity to emotionally relate to the story, and allows them to be emotionally
connected. An emotionally connected reader is more interested in the story that a reader who is
not emotionally connected. Meanwhile, ethos allow the reader to view the author as a trustworthy
source and builds the author s credibility. An author can do this in a number of different ways,
such as using other credible sources to their advantage or by building common ground with the
reader. It is especially important for Gladwell s audience to trust him, as he is trying to convince
them that what they believe about success is wrong.

46. Similarities Between European And Asian Films
The Grittier Hero
The Western has traditionally been thought of as an American entity. Forging the west and its
frontier is what the nation sees as its identity. There are other versions of the this traditionally
American story. Countries outside the nation intrigued by the genre have taken the Western to other
levels and depicted the characters in a different light. European and Asian films have a divergent
perspective of the traditional lone man that comes to save the day. Films such as The Good, the
Bad, and the Ugly,by Sergio Leone, Seven Samurai, by Akira Kurosawa created men that were not
the America type of western men. These new interpretations were men that are clearly not good
nor truly evil, but blurred. These films have main characters, whether alone or in groups that are
closer to the antagonists in the films. Other countries viewed Western heroes as selfish and
individualistic, grittier, and in opposite of the white American hero. Typically in the American
version of the Western, the hero does usually have a jaded past, however, like characters in the
Virginian and John Ford films with John Wayne, the main protagonist is humble and down to
earth. Beginning in the 1960s, western films reflected the Vietnam conflict and its increasing
ambiguities, leading up to a crisis of public myth (Cawelti 145). Film as a whole reflected the
change in the hero s identity. In the film The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Leone made the
character of Blondie , played

47. The Renaissance In Europe And Its Change During The...
During the Middle Ages, Europe was going through a tough time it was characterized by a breakup
of the unified empire, breakdown of trade, abandoned cities, and end of all governments, this led
Europe to be economically weak and not the center of literacy anymore; following it even changing
the dominant language to another. The period that Europewas going through was hectic causing the
breakdown of trade and the population becoming rural, but after every beginning, there s an end
and this started between the 1400 s and the 1500 s. After the Middle Ages, a broad change occurred
which happened to be the renaissancemeaning (rebirth). During this age changes occurred such as
the development of nation states, the emergence of the middle class, the advent of commercial
capitalism and the rise of rationalist thoughts. With the developments of scientific and technological
studies and inventions, it allowed the expansion of learning. The renaissance was a huge impact on
Europe at that time especially Italy where it was energized by the classical learning based on the
philosophical and the literary writings of the Romans and the Greeks, the... Show more content on

Humanists tried to take these ideas of and use education to better understand the world while still
sticking to their beliefs, the idea of the whole change was basically to change the citizen into an
educated complete and independent one. The change that was needed throughout the years was not
changing the country but changing and educating the people. The people before the age of the
renaissance had them feeling depressed and not knowing anything in life except worshiping and
believing that the church and king are the most important, and to avoiding life s pleasure to please

48. The Politics Of The United States Politics
Sir Walter Scott (1896) once said Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practise to
deceive! (Canto XI, XVII). In other words, lying leads to more deceit until one is so caught up in
the lies that it is virtually impossible to escape. Truth is highly valued in society; so, what are the
reactions when the leaders of society lieto their constituents? This is an issue that has recently
manifested in the United States politics. With the election of President Donald Trump, the media
have become increasingly interested in how truthful the members of the political system are. Many
have started demanding transparency from those in positions of power. In contrast, some, who will
be discussed later, believe that officials should be able... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maybe presidents typically have a high percentage of falsities. To solve this query, Barack
Obama s profile will be examined. PolitiFact has a record of only 26% of what Obama said as
containing some degree of falsehood (PolitiFact, 2016). The disparity between these two figures
is offsetting to say the least. In the few short weeks in which he has held office, more than two of
every three comments made by President Trump have been reported to be incorrect in some form.
The issue is so bad that Trump s counselors have begun using terms like alternative facts in order to
mask the outright deception. This problem is not unique to Trump; in fact, many high level
politicians have been caught in lies recently. For example, House Speaker Paul Ryan has been
accused of being dishonest about certain things relating to Medicare. A writer for The Huffington
Post claimed that Ryan is using deceit to convince people that the Medicare system is broken, and
that it must be destroyed (Altman, 2017). There are countless other instances of this happening
with politicians, and it is not a new problem. Politicians are not flawless; they make mistakes and
occasionally act in their own best interest like all humans. Furthermore, they are people with a
responsibility to handle an exuberant amount of sensitive information and make critical decisions.
For this reason, it is not surprising that there is an unintentional slip up on

50. Test Taking Strategies
Test Taking Strategies
For 10 years, I was the one testing the students, teaching strategies and finding new ones to help
students study. Suddenly, I found myself returning to school and the anxiety, stress, lack of time,
and just all the unknowns seemed to overwhelm my life. The last couple of years I have learned to
incorporate strategies that work best for me, but there is always room for improvement and
strengthening. Learning, study and test taking skills are some of the most important things to have
when furthering your education. Upon reading Strategies for Test Success by Linda Anne Silvestri,
I was able to scrutinize some of my weaknesses, reevaluate my learning style, and look at some
new test taking strategies while assessing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using this strategy instead of trying to memorize text out of a book, one should have to spend
less time studying and more information should be retained. (Kaplan Nursing: Lipponcott)
Test Strategies Not so Helpful
There are so many strategy recommendations for students. While each have good points, some are
more helpful than others. Strategies that don t seem as helpful to me are simulating actual test like
circumstances when studying for the exam, study groups, note taking by using the fancy systems.
These three strategies just seem to increase my stress level to the point I feel like I am not learning.
Simulating actual test like circumstances has just never worked for me as I usually don t pick
the correct information to test myself on and the important information gets left behind. Study
groups cause me too much pressure because I find that one or two people seem to be putting the
study guides together. This is a pet peeve for me; I don t mind sharing my ideas but don t expect
me to do all the work and then hand it to you. The final one that has never worked for me is
taking notes by using one of the many note taking systems. I find myself spending too much time
trying to remember what needs to be written where, organizing, how to fold the paper. I have
developed my own crazy way of taking notes over the years. Note taking is an area that I feel is
individualize for each
