Leaders primarily use expert, referent, and reward power to influence members of the in group. The
out group includes followers with few or no social ties to their leader, in a strictly task centered
relationship characterized by low exchange and top down influence. Leaders mostly use reward, as
well as legitimate and coercive power, to influence out group members.
Members of the in group are invited to participate in important decision making, are given added
responsibility, and have greater access to the leader. Members of the out group are managed according
to the requirements of the employment contract. They receive little inspiration, encouragement, or
recognition. In terms of influence and support, in group members experience greater support and
positive influence from the leader, while out group members tend not to experience positive
relationships and influence. The in group versus out group status also reveals an element of reciprocity
or exchange in the relationship. The leader grants special favors to in group members in exchange for
their loyalty, commitment, and outstanding performance. This creates mutual reinforcement based on
common needs and interests.
Leader Member Exchange (LMX) Theory
The underlying assumption of LMX theory is that leaders or superiors have limited amounts of social,

To What Extent Is Csr Beneficial to a Company s Performance
To What Extent is CSR Beneficial to a Company s Performance?
Corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is a popular debate topic over decades, has divided into
five major dimensions over time. They are known as the stakeholder dimension, the social dimension,
the economic dimension, the voluntariness dimension and the environmental dimension in research
(Dahlsrud, 2008). The relationship between CSR and company s performance, which is classified as
the stakeholder dimension, aroused a controversial discussion among different research studies. Some
research reported positive relationship in CSR and company s performance (Mirvis, 2012), some
research found negative results (Karnani, 2010), while there are also other research view CSR as ...

In this way, those impact brought by those omitted aspects would be included in the CSR s
relationship with company s performance by mistake.
Despite the influence of omitted factors, CSR neither benefit nor harm company s performance. For
those cases reported positive relationship above, they are very likely to be the result of a good
marketing strategy and aggressive advertisement (for restaurant and airlines), successful management
(for employees willingness to work in a responsible company), an efficient R amp;D and politic
strategies (for DuPont s case), etc. However, research reaching a negative relationship can also be
blamed to other stuffs related to CSR, rather than CSR itself. For example, the agency problem
appears when there s a conflict between company s goal and the agent s personal goal, not only in
CSR; and the profit issue is just a matter of choice. Thus, while measuring CSR s influence on
company s performance, we should first identify or select the dimensions of corporate social
responsibility (Ruf, 1998, as cited in Foote, Gaffney, amp;Evans, 2010). Nothing can we truly measure
before a clear identification. After a clear identification, we will be able to figure out whether it is the
impact brought by CSR, and therefore eliminate the interference from R amp;D, advertising, or
political efforts, etc.
It s not simply

Imac Essay
The iMac was made by Apple, released on June 5, 2017. The iMac is ideal for me because it fits all
my requirements for general use. The cost of this computer starts at $1399.00, but when adding
additional features the price can go to $3,079.
The price I would buy it at is $1,729, paying this amount I get additional features that includes the
3.0GHz quad core 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, which is useful for me as I need it for daily
use and require the processor to run fast, the 8GB 2400MHz memory that is enough since I would use
it for basic document work, photo editing multi tab browsing and media streaming and even though
this sounded like a lot these tasks can be completed with 4 GB so for me 8GB is more than enough.

From these options I would have the 1TB SSD because an SSD does everything a hard drive does
functionally, but data is instead stored on interconnected flash memory chips that retain the data even
when there s no power present so nothing is moving. Opposite to that is a hard drive which basically is
a metal platter with a magnetic coating that stores your data, this last only for a certain time until it
wears off, and the disk also spins making noise. For speed, an SSD equipped PC will boot in just
seconds and a hard drive requires time to speed up to operating specs, and will continue to be slower
than an SSD during normal use. Due to this high speed storage, loading large files and launching
softwares will be much faster than the previous macs.
For the appearance for the iMac pro, the height of it is 17.7 inches, the width is 20.8 inches, the stand
depth is 6.9 inches and the weight of it is 5.66 kg. Moreover, it has an amazing 500 nits of brightness
along with a billion colours. This feature is one of my favourites because I love taking photos and with
the iMac the photos will look much brighter, colourful and they will have amazing quality.
The casing of this computer is made out of aluminum. For ventilation there is a long vent on the
bottom portion of the rear casing included. There are also slots facilities that perform airflows which

Technology And Social Disconnection From Everyday Life
Not a wired culture, but a virtual cultural that is wired shut: compulsively fixated on digital
technology as a source of salvation from the reality of a lonely culture and radical social disconnection
from everyday life (Doheny Farina, 1996). The mobile telephone has been the most rapidly
disseminated piece of technology in world history. The first commercially available mobile devices
were available in the 1980 s, and since then have expanded exponentially. In 1994, Finland was the
world leader in terms of mobile subscribers with ten percent of the population being hooked on a
mobile contract (Wirzenius, n.d.). Over the past twenty years, these numbers have increased beyond
one s imagination. As of January 2014, ninety percent of American adults own a cell phone and over
half of those own a smartphone (Pew Research Center s Internet American Life Project, 2014). These
numbers will only increase with time as in a survey conducted by Pew Internet (2014) ninety eight
percent of adults between the ages of eighteen to twenty nine own mobile devices with numbers
decreasing slightly as the population aged. As our culture begins to shift more into the digital
revolution age we find ourselves losing vital communication skills in person to person contact. The
sight of a local Starbucks at lunch time filled with business workers and teenagers glued to their
screens more so than enjoying lunch, an adolescent playing games on their smartphone or texting and
driving, are all

Benefits Of Using Cds Used For Hedging Purposes
Banks are classified as users or non users of CDS based on a search of their annual reports for
information about the use of CDS. To search the reports, I have searched for key terms and
expressions that indicate the use of CDS such as CDS, credit default swap, and credit default contract.
Appendix (C) shows the complete list of the banks classified as CDS user or CDS non user, and their
market capitalization.
The CDS users represent 50% of the sample and the other half are nonuser. The selected sample will
be used to test two main aspects: 1) The effect of the CEOs risk taking incentives on CDS use by
distinguishing between CDS use for hedging purposes and CDS use for trading purposes; and 2) How
the CDS use impacts the firms risk by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2002 the European Union agreed that from January 2005 international accounting
standards/international financial reporting standards (IASs/IFRSs) would apply for the consolidated
accounts of the EU listed companies (Barth, Landsman, and Lang, 2008). Starting from 2005,
IAS/IFRS adoption has been mandatory in all the member states of the European Union with the
ultimate goal of increasing transparency in financial reporting. This adoption of IAS/IFRS therefore
represents an extraordinary event for empirical research because evidence shows that the mandatory
adoption of IAS/IFRS in Europe results in better quality of financial reporting. In fact, empirical
studies provide some support to the notion that adopting IAS/IFRS improves the quality of financial
reporting and of public information (Palea, 2013).
3.1.4 Data sources
In this thesis, secondary data is used to answer the two research questions. The data have been
collected from two main sources: bank s annual reports and Datastream. Following the approach of
many prior empirical studies the data on CDS and derivative are hand collected from banks annual
reports (e.g., Allayannis and Ofek, 2001; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Supanvanij and Strauss, 2010).
Unlike US firms, compensation data for European companies are not readily available in

World Of Forms In Plato s Third Man Argument
Philosophy Essay
Everyone has their own unique way of how they see the world. It helps people attempt to understand
this planet we call our home. Some people use religion to make sense of the miraculous things here on
this planet, some use religion, some uses science and others just go with the status quo and what they
have been told. Although common, those are not the only ways to justify the seemingly unexplainable.
Two world famous philosophers named Plato and Aristotle debated whether or not they believed their
view point was correct. Plato believed in his Theory of Forms while Aristotle rebuked his claims with
his Third Man Argument. I will argue that a World of Forms does not exists per se but there is another
world that has the same features as the World of Forms such as being eternal, unchanging, unmoving
and indivisible.
Theory of Forms
Plato s Theory of Forms is discussed in several of his dialogues but the Republic is most well known
for being written during what people call the peak of his genius . Plato believed that the things we
normally experience on the day to day with our five senses; sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell, are
not truly real. He believed real ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The forms are eternal because the concept of the form will never go away. A beautiful flower may be
beautiful in the meantime while it is alive but after it dies that thing is no longer beautiful. The same
thing cannot be said for the form of beauty. Even if all of the beautiful things in the world of senses
died the Form of beauty will still be there. The forms are unmoving and indivisible because they are
not physical objects that you can pick up and move or split in half they are beyond the physical
aspects of this world. The forms are unchanging, physical things may change and shift but because it
is an ideal thing not a concrete object that cannot happen with the

The Battle of Gettysburg was the most important battle of the civil war. The Battle of Gettysburg
would become the climatic conclusion for the Confederated that fought in the Civil War. What
transpired in the three days of this battle has significantly influenced today s society. Because of this
battle, the Union gained their lead on the Confederate forces and won the civil war, which protected
the county from falling apart and completing their ultimate goal. This goal was to preserve the Union.

hours later, General Meade ordered the First 11th Corps to Gettysburg with Major Reynolds to lead
them on their way. Major Reynolds summoned Major General Abner Doubleday, who was acting
commander of the First Corps at this time, to headquarters. Between the hours of seven and eight AM,
they went over to inspect dispatches from General Meade and Buford. Major Reynolds also sent
Captain Joseph Rosengarten, to tell the townspeople that there was to be a battle here soon, but instead
of listening, they threw mud in his face. He briefly told Major Reynolds what had happened and he

Francisco De Goya Research Paper
It is often said that losing one sense causes the others to sharpen. Undoubtedly one of history s great
artists in regards to painting and etching, Francisco de Goya is no exception to this legend. The images
created after his brush with death that left him deaf, and especially those painted during the final years
of his life known as the Black Paintings , certainly suggest that his vision grew keener with the loss of
his hearing. A closer look at his career proves that Goya always possessed a keen eye for depicting
people and the world around him as they truly were, even before disease stripped him of his hearing.
From his earliest tapestry cartoons to his politically charged depictions of the Peninsular War, Goya s
paintings and etchings express a brash approach through which he unveils the folly, foolishness, and
cruelty of mankind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preceding Goya in the line of Spanish painters was ...Velázquez, painter of Spain s worldly pride and
power, of the pomp and panoply of that brief moment in the 17th Century when the nation stood
boldly, if insecurely, at the center of the historical stage, (Schickel 7). Velázquez s great works such as
Las Meninas and The Surrender of Breda show a grandeur and sophistication of the Spanish nobility
as well as preparations...not only to end the war, but also to initiate the peace that follows,
(Velazquez). Unfortunately, even a century before Goya would truly begin the height of his artistic
journey, shadows lie across most of [Velazquez s] canvases, as if Velázquez sensed what his sitters did
not that the tide had turned against Spain, (Schickel 7). By the time Goya began creating works the
public of today recognize, any veil of peace his predecessor clung to was stripped away, leaving Goya
to depict the truth of Spain s precarious political situation and the reality of the human

The Blue Planet Open Ocean Pelagic Zone
In this episode of the BBC documentary series, The Blue Planet: Open Ocean, we were able to explore
the abundance and complications of the open ocean, the pelagic zone. Over 60% of our planet is
covered by the ocean, yet the deep sea is largely still unknown. We know more about the moon than
what we know about the deep ocean. The temperature and the level of sunlight decrease as the depth
increases. The ocean may appear uniform from the surface, but there is several layers to the ocean.
The pelagic zone contains the most area of the open ocean. The zone includes everything except for
the coastal waters and the sea floor. However, even within this area, there are variation since some part
is lifeless with very little amount of organisms and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The closest to the surface is the epipelagic subzone stretches to about 200m. This zone has enough
sunlight and nutrients for bigger marine creatures like tuna, sharks, giant jellyfish and predator fishes.
The second subzone, the mesopelagic, also known as the twilight zone, with the depth of 200m to
1000m; this zone has barely sunlight. The insufficient of sunlight prohibits organisms to perform
photosynthesis in the twilight zone. Surviving in the twilight zone is about seeing and not being seen.
These organisms need to be able to see their prey, but they should not be spotted by their predators.
The next subzone is the bathypelagic ranging from 1000 to 4000 m, containing bioluminescent marine
organisms which create light, like hatchet fish and squid. Below 150m, photosynthesis is impossible;
hence there are only animals and no plants in this region and below. The animals living in the
bathypelagic zone solely rely on detritus for food or on eating other animals. At this depth and
pressure, the animals most commonly found are fish, mollusks, crustaceans, and jellyfish.Red, black
and bioluminescent animals in this appear as completely black to others since there is very little to no
light penetration at this depth. Following the bathypelagic is the abyssopelagic zone, locating with the

Why I Want For An Engineer
Why I Want to be an Engineer Engineering has been of particular interest to me since I was an
underclassman in high school. During sophomore year in high school, I participated in a program
sponsored by the boy scouts of America called an engineering explorer post. The group met once a
week at a different engineering firm or classroom at the Rochester Institute of Technology to learn
about the different fields of engineering and their job. Through this program, I learned of my passion
for civil engineering. I love solving problems with math and science and helping people go on with
their everyday lives. The world needs engineers and I want to be one of them.
Throughout my childhood, I constantly asked my dad questions about traffic lights, bridges, roads,
and even the sand barrels at the end of a guardrail. I also had an obsession with creating structures
from Lego bricks. I also want to be an engineer so I can build a better world for our generation. I m
most interested in civil engineering because I want to design and construct bridges and roads. As the
infrastructure in America continues to deteriorate, there is a greater and greater need for civil
engineers. Infrastructure fascinates me and I feel creating the next generation of bridges and roads in
America is something I want to be involved with.
The engineering field is also filled with numerous research opportunities. I want to find a way to
design new infrastructure to last longer than the systems being replaced.

Health Care Budget
Most entities and organization create budgets as a guide for controlling its spending, prediction of
profit, and it expenditure as they progress toward a set goal. Budget involves pulling resources
together to achieve a specific goal. According to Gapenski (2006), budgeting is an offshoot in a
planning process. A basic managerial accounting tool use in holding planning and control functions
together is referred to as set of budgets (p. 255). One major setback manager or budget developer
encounter is trying to design a future, a process that cannot be created with the precision just right.
This article highlights some financial management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some employ the variance analysis in monitoring an operating budget, this studies the variance
between actual and budgeted cost; comparing one cost at one organization to another. Variance
analysis points out areas that require performance improvement.
Flexibility of budget
No project is done perfect the first time; there is always a chance an error that needs correction or new
ideas to make it perfect. So it is with creating and monitoring a budget. Having an accommodation for
changes in a budget is a very good practice. It helps managers and budget developers respond to
competitive setbacks or breakthrough more precisely and quick; by using available resources for good
opportunities or correction of errors.
Least Effective Measures in Creating an Operating Budget
Budget formulation and use are tools that guide many decision making strategies in business. The
measures that are least effective could create an avalanche of catastrophic events that can negatively
impact the decision making strategies. It is in the best interest of the pertinent parties to draft an
operating budget based on a collective set of information relating to organizational vision and mission.
Ineffective measures can be catastrophic based on the foundation for measures used in creating the
budget. Among the many issues organizations face that relates to creating an effective operating
budget results from poor

Bse Is A Disease Of Sheep
The word BSE is short but it stands for a disease with a long name, bovine spongiform
encephalopathy. Bovine means that the disease affects cows, spongiform refers to the way the brain
from a sick cow looks spongy under a microscope, and encephalopathy indicates that it is a disease of
the brain. BSE is a progressive neurologic disease of cows. Research shows that the first probable
cases of BSE in cows occurred during the 1970 s with two cases of BSE being identified in 1986. BSE
possibly originated as a result of feeding cattle meat and bone meal that contained BSE infected
products from a spontaneously occurring case of BSE or scrapie infected sheep products. Scrapie is a
prion disease of sheep. Similar diseases such as Chronic wasting disease which is in both deer and elk
populations is devastating the hunting and the reproduction of deer. Other similar disease such a the
Creutzfeldt Jakob disease which occurs in the human body system. That is pretty scary for us humans.
We have got to find a way to get this prion settled down and hopefully I can show you the way the
scientist plan to get rid or at least slow it down. There is strong evidence and general agreement that
the outbreak was then amplified and spread throughout the United Kingdom cattle industry by feeding
rendered, prion infected, bovine meat and bone meal to young calves. A lot of people wander what

Beatles Influences
When one thinks of The Beatles, some concepts that usually come to mind are the hippies,
psychedelic drugs such as marijuana, and their timeless classics such as Blackbird, Yesterday, and
Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. While these associations are founded in truth, the Beatles
are also closely connected with the politics of that time. Their song lyrics advocate for peace and
harmony in a world that was at war. The way they dressed, and the length of their hair showed a
disdain for the social norms of the time. Their greatest influences were famous for straying away from
the normal to find art in the unventured. The Beatles were created in a time of unpredictability, but
their music will outlive them.
Prior to The Beatles, there were numerous precursors with different styles of music that existed that
came together to set the stage for the Beatles to become successful throughout the world and
throughout popular music. When the Beatles first became popular, rock and roll was only about fifteen
years old at that point, although they did have iconic musicians who they looked up to and aspired to
be like. John Lennon stated himself in an interview saying, If there hadn t been an Elvis, there would
not have been The Beatles. The band even did a cover of one of Elvis popular songs All shook Up.
The group also adopted other influences into their music such as using a sitar in some of their songs.

Our politicians toss around the term the American Dream loosely these days, but Bill T. Jones has

Homosexual Marriage Analysis
Maggie Gallagher argues that she is not in favor of homosexual marriage which is relationship view,
because it ruins the basic human value, procreation. Her strongest argument according to her essay
would be the continuation of society since at one point in the world, there was a low population. In
addition, as concluded by many scientists, we could stop having children and still be able to survive
with the people and resources that we have. Since this is her main reason for the argument, she is
using Natural Law Theory for her explanation. She believes if there is another reason to establish a
marriage, it would ruin the reputation of a marriage.

A Tiger for Malgudi
The Sanyasi in A Tiger for Malgudi upholds the Gandhian values of non violence, love, understanding
and sympathy. The central theme of A Tiger for Malgudi is Gandhian in the sense that the novel
presents the victory of the Gandhian virtues over violence and rudeness. Narayan presents two sets of

If modern civilization stands for all this, I have understood it to do so, I call it satanic. (Mathur 34)
Gandhi was also against the Westernization in all forms. He avers:
Europe today represents not the spirit of God or Christianity but the spirit of Satan.... In reality, it is
worshipping Mammon. (Gandhi 144)
Gandhi considered the contemporary industrial civilization of Europe, a disease and evil for human
race. He firmly believed in the ancient spiritual status of India in the world and remarks:
I would have our leaders teach us to be morally supreme in the world. This land of ours was once, we
are told, the abode of gods. It is not possible to conceive gods inhabiting a land which is made hideous
by the smoke and the din of mill chimneys and factories. (Misra 61)
Narayan reproduces the same spirit and heritage of ancient India in Swami and Friends. To
countercheck the proliferation of industrialization and technology, Gandhi suggested novel methods
and means. He opines:
I believe that independent India can only discharge her duty towards a groaning world by adopting a
simple but ennobled life by developing her thousands of cottages and living at peace with the world.

Political Science Essay. Term 2. Considering The Experience
Political science essay. Term 2
Considering the experience of one country with compulsory voting, and one in which voting is
voluntary, does compulsory voting tend to enhance the quality of democracy?
Compulsory voting can be defined as the legal obligation to attend the polls at election time According
to a dictionary definition, democratic state is one where supreme power is vested in the people and
exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system. There are different
democratic countries such as Canada, United States of America, Belgium, Australia and they all have
different electoral processes. Some countries practice either compulsory voting or voluntary A total of
29 countries in contemporary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to make sure everyone is exercising this right to vote, some countries have enforced laws that
prevent people from disregarding this civil duty. As an individual liberty consists in exemption from
legal control, so political liberty consists in participation in legal control. Compulsory voting is in the
interest of everyone in the country, through voting we are given a voice to decide which people
amongst us we would rather have serving and protecting us.
The initial expectation is that a substantial gap exists between the voting rates of the socially
advantaged because the latter are less informed about politics, feel more alienated from the political
system and are not the main target of mobilization efforts by political parties One of the problems with
countries with voluntary voting is that participation is low participation which can also be called low
electoral turnout. one of the problems most democratic states with voluntary voting have, is the
turnout of electoral processes. Everyone has the right to vote but people on the day of election stay
home and turnouts end up low. These states end up having less than 60% turnout. However in states
with Compulsory voting such as Australia, election turnouts have been high. the average level of
turnout under the system of compulsory voting was 91.6% If the turnouts for elections enhances
democracy why do other states

Relative Valuing Best Buy
Relative Valuation According to Aswath Damodaran, relative valuation is the most widely used
technique in sell side research at investment banks. Relative valuation is the concept of using
multiples and comparing the value of an asset to a similar asset in the market. Purchasing a house uses
concepts of relative valuation. Houses are priced by comparing other houses that have similar
specification within the same neighborhood. In this section I will be valuing Best Buy using a
historical relative valuation, ranking model using solver analysis, and pricing Best Buy s equity share
price by discounting the PV sum of 5 years of dividends and applying a target P/E to my earnings per

Rhetorical Analysis Of S-Town By Brian Reed
Storytelling is something we all do naturally. It is an innate ability that has been practiced since the
dawn of civilization. Stories can be told through literature, visuals, performances, or word of mouth.
As time elapses, the way in which we tell stories involves. Although, the way in which we tell stories
change, the essence of them remain by incorporating the basic elements of good storytelling. We are
living in the Information Age, a digital era where technological innovations have shaped our daily
lives. Podcasts have come out of this time period. They are a way of telling stories and have become
increasingly popular within the last decade. There are hundreds of podcasts about any topic
imaginable. Brian Reed is the author of the Podcast series S Town that was released earlier this year.
In his series about the mysterious life of John B. McLemore, Reed utilizes rhetorics as a way to
engage and connect with his audience. Because S Town is a podcast, the audience has to experience
the story through listening to the narrator. The episode begins by using first person point of view.
From Serial and This American Life, I m Brian Reed. This is Shittown. is how Reed officially

He continuously shifts between first and third person point of view throughout the entire episode. To
me, this is basically a soliloquy. A soliloquy in a theatre play is a moment when a character directly
shares their thoughts and feelings with the audience in the middle of a scene. Brian Reed uses this
device a lot when he speaks in first person or is in a conversation and wants to clarify something. The
first time we see him use this technique is when John is giving him the coordinates of his maze. The
rest of the times Reed uses soliloquies is to share his thoughts towards other characters sayings or

Essay on Blinded
It is the year 2513, fifty years after we have evolved into a dystopian land. There are no longer
countries or states, only the capital and other land. The capital is based on what used to be known as
the European continent. Years ago, in the times the superiors loathe, the worlds population was
focused primarily on beauty. No one ever paid attention to what they should have, only on appearance.
But fifty years ago, the superiors came into action. They completely overruled everyone, gaining
much notoriety. New mandates were made to change things. The main rule, though, is the one that
says each individual must be made legally blind at the age of eighteen years. From the very beginning,

Economic development is a broader term than economic growth Economic growth usually means the
growth in production of an economy. On the other hand, economic development includes other fsctors
such as litemcyy health, child mortality rate, equality, regional balance, infbtmchrre, etc.

The difference between economic growth and economic development is a subtle Features of the one.
Let us take the example of a child. As a child grows her weight and height increases. Simultaneously,
her capacity to leam, recognize and distinguish between objects develops. Thus growth is not
sufficient; we need development also.
Similarly, in the case of the Indian economy economic growth is not enough; we need economic
development. We need better health of people, education for all, reduction in inequality among
sections of people and regions, reduction in infant mortality rate (IMR), access to drinking water for
all, etc. The government has to devise policies and allocate government

Mental And Physical Effects Of Marijuana
Mental and Physical Effects of Marijuana
Marijuana also named weed, hash, pot, Mary Jane, and many others is, according to the National
Institute on Drug Abuse, the number one used illegal and addictive drug around the globe
(Williamson, Buckland, Cunningham, 2013). Users of the psychoactive plant range anywhere from
adolescents to senior citizens, and from all social and economic classes. It has, in recent years, gained
approval by the FDA for use as a medicine to help treat symptoms of various illnesses both mental and
physical. Thousands of individuals are now using marijuana, and numbers are likely to increase, as the
drug may be on the verge of being legalized nation wide. Surveys from the United States show large
support in using marijuana for recreational purposes 56% and support for its use as medicine 70%
(Gonzalez Swanson, 2012). Though multitudes of people use the drug for its effects and potential
benefits, not many know exactly how it achieves these things within ones bodies or their minds.
People, whether using the drug or not, need to know what marijuana is, how it interacts with the body
and brain, and the effects that are produced from this interaction.
What is Marijuana?
Marijuana is actually a plant called Cannabis sativa or more specifically, its leaves and flowers. These
sections of the plant are removed, dried up, rolled into cigarettes, and smoked (Fackelmann, 1993).
Though smoking is the most common method of consuming the

Falling Through The Earth Summary
Forty two years has passed since the Fall of Saigon 1975, yet still the Vietnam War and its aftermath
are not to be forgotten. The first of the wars to be publically broadcasted earned the Vietnam War the
name Television War. Despite the public s division on the war, young men filled with patriotism and
purpose went off to war. These men were unsure and unskilled to survive and fight in the jungles of
Vietnam. Soon, the war proved to be more than a physical battle, but one of mental endurance as well.
Novels such as, Falling Through the Earth by Danielle Trussoni and Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes
allow for a different interpretation of the war. The novels expose the world of the characters, where

How To Mark A Book By Mortimer Adler
In How to Mark a Book, Mortimer Adler argues that it is necessary to annotate books. That way, one
is actively reading whereby he/she can articulate the hierarchy of information given. The content of
the article features what it means to truly own a book, provides many strategies for marking up a
book, and states that there are no excuses for marking up a book. Adler articulates that the reader
needs to truly own a book so that he/she can fully understand what he/she is reading. He states that the
only way that one can own a book is not only by purchasing the book so it can be written in, but by
actually writing in it as well. Adler argues that writing in a book assures that the reader is reading
actively. He claims that marking up a book

Bill Williams Town Description
A Visit to Williams Williams, AZ, is a historic town located west of Flagstaff in Coconino County.
With a population of a little over 3000 permanent residents, Williams seems like just any other small
town lost in the mountains of northern Arizona, but nothing could be further from the truth. In an area
originally called Wii Gvʼul by the indigenous Havasupai people, the town of Williams was founded in
1881 and incorporated in 1901. Bill Williams, a locally renowned scout, trapper, and an all around
Mountain Man, was the inspiration for naming the town. Bill Williams Mountain, just south of town,
is also named for him. And, of course, the Old Bill statue still stands in Memorial Park. Although Bill
Williams is not a household name outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

(GCR), has its main depot and terminus in Williams. Started by the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe
Railway in 1901, early GCR passengers included famed naturalist John Muir who wrote how
impressed he was with the railroad s limited impact on the local environment. Costs for the 64 mile
trip was $3.95. In 1905, the Santa Fe company opened El Tovar, a hotel for visitors who wanted to
spend the night at the Grand Canyon. Constructed just 20 feet from the edge of the South Rim, El
Tovar afforded its guests an unparalleled view of the Canyon. The hotel is still in use today. The rise in
automobile ownership after World War II caused suspension of operations of the GCR in 1968. On its
final trip in July of that year, the train carried only three passengers. In the mid 1980 s, the line was
purchased by Max and Thelma Beigert and on September 17, 1989, began its new life and once again
started carrying passengers to the Grand

The Importance of the First Amendment of the United...
Being expression one of the most important rights of the people to maintain a connected society right
to speech should be accepted to do so. The first amendment is one of the most fundamental rights that
individuals have. It is fundamental to the existence of democracy and the respect of human dignity.
This amendment describes the principal rights of the citizens of the United States. If the citizens were
unable to criticize the government, it would be impossible to regulate order. By looking freedom of
speech there is also freedom of assembly and freedom of press that are crucial for the United States
democracy. According to the Derechos, Human Rights , freedom of speech is one of the most

The people will be submitted to a dictatorship. That s why freedom of speech is so important because
is the main and the introductory part to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. The founding fathers
wrote this right to make sure that United States will be a different country, a better country where
everyone could understand each other and that what happened to them (British government) will not
happen ever again. In a democratic government also depends on freedom of press and freedom of
assembly. Freedom of press is the occurrences that happen every day that are informed or detailed
through television, newspaper, internet, magazines or speech without adding or removing any type of
information that do not benefit a particular sector. And also is that the people have the right to have
their own type of press to express their ideas. Today, freedom of press is a utopia because every
country has their own secrets, and covers important information to their citizens. With freedom of
press, the countries will have a perfect government not so perfect but the people need to know the
truth. The democratic government is a form of government in which the people, either directly or
indirectly, take part in governing. Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those
others that have been tried. This is because there is no system that can perfectly order society. Usually
the purpose of democracy is to prevent tyranny (the accumulation of

The Crusades Impact
From 1095 CE to 1291 CE, there was a total of nine Crusades that spanned from Western Europe to
the Middle East. The Crusades were military campaigns fought between the Christians and the
Muslims, and their justification was to obtain control of Jerusalem: the Holy Land. The impact of the
Crusades can still be seen today, as they were an important factor in the modernization of Western
Europe s civilization. The Crusades affected many parts of the world, including the people who fought
in these battles and the others who were at home. These wars directly affected the role of the Church
in Europe, since the Crusades were fought in the name of Christ and they provided the wealth and
power the church gained as a product of the Crusades. Not only ... Show more content on

The Christians who fought in the Crusades learned better and newer ways of doing mundane day to
day things from the Muslims, who had more advanced methods of doing what the Europeans had been
doing more simply for centuries. For example, in Jerusalem, Muslim doctors discovered painkillers,
which were used for when the doctors would perform amputations, so the operation would be
relatively painless for the patient. This was more sophisticated than the Europeans way of amputating,
which was to hack off the limb while holding down the patient, with no drugs to kill the pain. The
Muslim way of performing surgery was quickly adopted by the Europeans after the Crusades. Before
the wars, Christians were known for being dirty and relatively smelly. That changed after the Holy
Wars; Muslims wash very often due to religious practices, and the Christians adopted their methods of
washing and became accustomed to using soap to bathe every day. The crusaders who returned home
brought soap for others to utilize. They then were able to emulate and create their own soap, and they
discovered that cleanliness would help stop common diseases from being spread as quickly and easily

The Importance Of My High School Band
I play the French horn in my high school band. Our band is small only 25 30 members but we are a
family. Each class I see the determination on each person s face to do well because there s the constant
pressure of letting the rest of the band down. Because we are so small, each person has to play to the
absolute best of their abilities; each individual person needs to be a strong player in order for our band
to sound good. I ve played in larger bands on several occasions and I was shocked to see that some
kids would just... not play. Our band cannot afford that leniency.
Our size in itself is a challenge. However, I have personal struggles within the band as well. There
have only been two French horn players in my band for the entirety of my high school career: myself
and the number one horn player in the state, Cross. My whole life I have played second to an amazing
musician but while I improved by playing with him, I also never received any recognition for my
personal achievements or was ever granted the primary leadership position.
I often struggle to comprehend how good of a player I am, especially because I have performance
anxiety which hinders me during auditions and most performances. I constantly compare myself to
this amazing player who auditions well, who is regularly being recognized for musical achievements,
and who can never quite understand the concept of humility. He never understood my struggle, so I
was left adrift in an overwhelming sea of ineptitude.

Ruby Primer
In order to test whether the curry leaf possesses one of the 6 alleles and whether it has a Ruby gene
promoter, PCR and gel electrophoresis was used. Primers, short DNA sequences designed specifically
for each allele of the Ruby gene, were used to isolate the gene and amplify it for PCR. Multiple PCRs
were performed, each using a different primer set. Primers attach to specific regions surrounding the
gene and amplify only the region that is flanked. The forward primer is bound to a specific sequence
before the Ruby promoter, found to precede the actual gene sequence, and the reverse primer is bound
to the DNA after the gene. In order for visible bands for gel electrophoresis to be produced, a forward
primer must bind to one strand of DNA and a reverse primer must bind to the strand complementary to
the one the forward primer binds to. If both primers bind to the same strand, the PCR product formed
will not produce a result after gel electrophoresis. The size of the gel band of the DNA amplified by
the primer will determine the identity of the allele. Band sizes will ... Show more content on

Therefore, the primers and PCR products for each allele can differ. The Curry Leaf does not possess
any sequences corresponding to the primers used in this experiment as it did into produce gel results;
therefore, none of the investigated alleles are present in curry leaf trees. However, no clear
determination was made regarding promoter presence. Curry leaf trees may simply possess a different
allele that required different primers for DNA isolation and amplification to occur. This allele may still
possess a promoter. The allele the curry leaf has must be identified and compared to the gene sequence
of a plant with the same allele but is known not to express red coloring. If the curry leaf possesses a

The out group includes followers with few or no social ties to their leader, in a strictly task centered relationship characterized by low exchange and top down influence. Leaders mostly use reward, as well as legitimate and coercive power, to influence out group members. Members of the in group are invited to participate in important decision making, are given added responsibility, and have greater access to the leader. Members of the out group are managed according to the requirements of the employment contract. They receive little inspiration, encouragement, or recognition. In terms of influence and support, in group members experience greater support and positive influence from the leader, while out group members tend not to experience positive relationships and influence. The in group versus out group status also reveals an element of reciprocity or exchange in the relationship. The leader grants special favors to in group members in exchange for their loyalty, commitment, and outstanding performance. This creates mutual reinforcement based on common needs and interests. • 3. To What Extent Is Csr Beneficial to a Company s Performance To What Extent is CSR Beneficial to a Company s Performance? Corporate social responsibility (CSR), which is a popular debate topic over decades, has divided into five major dimensions over time. They are known as the stakeholder dimension, the social dimension, the economic dimension, the voluntariness dimension and the environmental dimension in research (Dahlsrud, 2008). The relationship between CSR and company s performance, which is classified as the stakeholder dimension, aroused a controversial discussion among different research studies. Some research reported positive relationship in CSR and company s performance (Mirvis, 2012), some research found negative results (Karnani, 2010), while there are also other research view CSR as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this way, those impact brought by those omitted aspects would be included in the CSR s relationship with company s performance by mistake. Despite the influence of omitted factors, CSR neither benefit nor harm company s performance. For those cases reported positive relationship above, they are very likely to be the result of a good marketing strategy and aggressive advertisement (for restaurant and airlines), successful management (for employees willingness to work in a responsible company), an efficient R amp;D and politic strategies (for DuPont s case), etc. However, research reaching a negative relationship can also be blamed to other stuffs related to CSR, rather than CSR itself. For example, the agency problem appears when there s a conflict between company s goal and the agent s personal goal, not only in CSR; and the profit issue is just a matter of choice. Thus, while measuring CSR s influence on company s performance, we should first identify or select the dimensions of corporate social responsibility (Ruf, 1998, as cited in Foote, Gaffney, amp;Evans, 2010). Nothing can we truly measure before a clear identification. After a clear identification, we will be able to figure out whether it is the impact brought by CSR, and therefore eliminate the interference from R amp;D, advertising, or political efforts, etc. It s not simply ... • 4. Imac Essay The iMac was made by Apple, released on June 5, 2017. The iMac is ideal for me because it fits all my requirements for general use. The cost of this computer starts at $1399.00, but when adding additional features the price can go to $3,079. The price I would buy it at is $1,729, paying this amount I get additional features that includes the 3.0GHz quad core 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, which is useful for me as I need it for daily use and require the processor to run fast, the 8GB 2400MHz memory that is enough since I would use it for basic document work, photo editing multi tab browsing and media streaming and even though this sounded like a lot these tasks can be completed with 4 GB so for me 8GB is more than enough. From these options I would have the 1TB SSD because an SSD does everything a hard drive does functionally, but data is instead stored on interconnected flash memory chips that retain the data even when there s no power present so nothing is moving. Opposite to that is a hard drive which basically is a metal platter with a magnetic coating that stores your data, this last only for a certain time until it wears off, and the disk also spins making noise. For speed, an SSD equipped PC will boot in just seconds and a hard drive requires time to speed up to operating specs, and will continue to be slower than an SSD during normal use. Due to this high speed storage, loading large files and launching softwares will be much faster than the previous macs. For the appearance for the iMac pro, the height of it is 17.7 inches, the width is 20.8 inches, the stand depth is 6.9 inches and the weight of it is 5.66 kg. Moreover, it has an amazing 500 nits of brightness along with a billion colours. This feature is one of my favourites because I love taking photos and with the iMac the photos will look much brighter, colourful and they will have amazing quality. The casing of this computer is made out of aluminum. For ventilation there is a long vent on the bottom portion of the rear casing included. There are also slots facilities that perform airflows which allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Technology And Social Disconnection From Everyday Life Not a wired culture, but a virtual cultural that is wired shut: compulsively fixated on digital technology as a source of salvation from the reality of a lonely culture and radical social disconnection from everyday life (Doheny Farina, 1996). The mobile telephone has been the most rapidly disseminated piece of technology in world history. The first commercially available mobile devices were available in the 1980 s, and since then have expanded exponentially. In 1994, Finland was the world leader in terms of mobile subscribers with ten percent of the population being hooked on a mobile contract (Wirzenius, n.d.). Over the past twenty years, these numbers have increased beyond one s imagination. As of January 2014, ninety percent of American adults own a cell phone and over half of those own a smartphone (Pew Research Center s Internet American Life Project, 2014). These numbers will only increase with time as in a survey conducted by Pew Internet (2014) ninety eight percent of adults between the ages of eighteen to twenty nine own mobile devices with numbers decreasing slightly as the population aged. As our culture begins to shift more into the digital revolution age we find ourselves losing vital communication skills in person to person contact. The sight of a local Starbucks at lunch time filled with business workers and teenagers glued to their screens more so than enjoying lunch, an adolescent playing games on their smartphone or texting and driving, are all ... To search the reports, I have searched for key terms and expressions that indicate the use of CDS such as CDS, credit default swap, and credit default contract. Appendix (C) shows the complete list of the banks classified as CDS user or CDS non user, and their market capitalization. The CDS users represent 50% of the sample and the other half are nonuser. The selected sample will be used to test two main aspects: 1) The effect of the CEOs risk taking incentives on CDS use by distinguishing between CDS use for hedging purposes and CDS use for trading purposes; and 2) How the CDS use impacts the firms risk by ... In 2002 the European Union agreed that from January 2005 international accounting standards/international financial reporting standards (IASs/IFRSs) would apply for the consolidated accounts of the EU listed companies (Barth, Landsman, and Lang, 2008). Starting from 2005, IAS/IFRS adoption has been mandatory in all the member states of the European Union with the ultimate goal of increasing transparency in financial reporting. This adoption of IAS/IFRS therefore represents an extraordinary event for empirical research because evidence shows that the mandatory adoption of IAS/IFRS in Europe results in better quality of financial reporting. In fact, empirical studies provide some support to the notion that adopting IAS/IFRS improves the quality of financial reporting and of public information (Palea, 2013). 3.1.4 Data sources In this thesis, secondary data is used to answer the two research questions. The data have been collected from two main sources: bank s annual reports and Datastream. Following the approach of many prior empirical studies the data on CDS and derivative are hand collected from banks annual reports (e.g., Allayannis and Ofek, 2001; Rajgopal and Shevlin, 2002; Supanvanij and Strauss, 2010). • 7. World Of Forms In Plato s Third Man Argument Philosophy Essay Everyone has their own unique way of how they see the world. It helps people attempt to understand this planet we call our home. Some people use religion to make sense of the miraculous things here on this planet, some use religion, some uses science and others just go with the status quo and what they have been told. Although common, those are not the only ways to justify the seemingly unexplainable. Two world famous philosophers named Plato and Aristotle debated whether or not they believed their view point was correct. Plato believed in his Theory of Forms while Aristotle rebuked his claims with his Third Man Argument. I will argue that a World of Forms does not exists per se but there is another world that has the same features as the World of Forms such as being eternal, unchanging, unmoving and indivisible. Theory of Forms Plato s Theory of Forms is discussed in several of his dialogues but the Republic is most well known for being written during what people call the peak of his genius . Plato believed that the things we normally experience on the day to day with our five senses; sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell, are not truly real. He believed real ... A beautiful flower may be beautiful in the meantime while it is alive but after it dies that thing is no longer beautiful. The same thing cannot be said for the form of beauty. The forms are unmoving and indivisible because they are not physical objects that you can pick up and move or split in half they are beyond the physical aspects of this world. The Battle of Gettysburg would become the climatic conclusion for the Confederated that fought in the Civil War. What transpired in the three days of this battle has significantly influenced today s society. Because of this battle, the Union gained their lead on the Confederate forces and won the civil war, which protected the county from falling apart and completing their ultimate goal. (Pfalz, 56) Major Beverage then hurried to form a squadron to support Captain Buck s men and to send gallopers toward town to tell the other Commanders of the Confederate approach. As they rode a bugle sounded boots and saddles meaning to get a horse and prepare for battle. (Longacre, 211) Two hours later, General Meade ordered the First 11th Corps to Gettysburg with Major Reynolds to lead them on their way. Major Reynolds summoned Major General Abner Doubleday, who was acting commander of the First Corps at this time, to headquarters. Between the hours of seven and eight AM, they went over to inspect dispatches from General Meade and Buford. Major Reynolds also sent Captain Joseph Rosengarten, to tell the townspeople that there was to be a battle here soon, but instead of listening, they threw mud in his face. He briefly told Major Reynolds what had happened and he replied jokingly, You must be mistaken; they have been throwing mud in your eyes. • 9. Francisco De Goya Research Paper It is often said that losing one sense causes the others to sharpen. Undoubtedly one of history s great artists in regards to painting and etching, Francisco de Goya is no exception to this legend. The images created after his brush with death that left him deaf, and especially those painted during the final years of his life known as the Black Paintings , certainly suggest that his vision grew keener with the loss of his hearing. A closer look at his career proves that Goya always possessed a keen eye for depicting people and the world around him as they truly were, even before disease stripped him of his hearing. The Blue Planet Open Ocean Pelagic Zone In this episode of the BBC documentary series, The Blue Planet: Open Ocean, we were able to explore the abundance and complications of the open ocean, the pelagic zone. Over 60% of our planet is covered by the ocean, yet the deep sea is largely still unknown. We know more about the moon than what we know about the deep ocean. The temperature and the level of sunlight decrease as the depth increases. The ocean may appear uniform from the surface, but there is several layers to the ocean. The closest to the surface is the epipelagic subzone stretches to about 200m. This zone has enough sunlight and nutrients for bigger marine creatures like tuna, sharks, giant jellyfish and predator fishes. The second subzone, the mesopelagic, also known as the twilight zone, with the depth of 200m to 1000m; this zone has barely sunlight. The insufficient of sunlight prohibits organisms to perform photosynthesis in the twilight zone. Surviving in the twilight zone is about seeing and not being seen. These organisms need to be able to see their prey, but they should not be spotted by their predators. The next subzone is the bathypelagic ranging from 1000 to 4000 m, containing bioluminescent marine organisms which create light, like hatchet fish and squid. Below 150m, photosynthesis is impossible; hence there are only animals and no plants in this region and below. • 11. Why I Want For An Engineer Why I Want to be an Engineer Engineering has been of particular interest to me since I was an underclassman in high school. During sophomore year in high school, I participated in a program sponsored by the boy scouts of America called an engineering explorer post. The group met once a week at a different engineering firm or classroom at the Rochester Institute of Technology to learn about the different fields of engineering and their job. Through this program, I learned of my passion for civil engineering. I love solving problems with math and science and helping people go on with their everyday lives. The world needs engineers and I want to be one of them. Throughout my childhood, I constantly asked my dad questions about traffic lights, bridges, roads, and even the sand barrels at the end of a guardrail. I also had an obsession with creating structures from Lego bricks. I also want to be an engineer so I can build a better world for our generation. I m most interested in civil engineering because I want to design and construct bridges and roads. As the infrastructure in America continues to deteriorate, there is a greater and greater need for civil engineers. Infrastructure fascinates me and I feel creating the next generation of bridges and roads in America is something I want to be involved with. The engineering field is also filled with numerous research opportunities. I want to find a way to design new infrastructure to last longer than the systems being replaced. ... So it is with creating and monitoring a budget. Having an accommodation for changes in a budget is a very good practice. Least Effective Measures in Creating an Operating Budget Budget formulation and use are tools that guide many decision making strategies in business. The measures that are least effective could create an avalanche of catastrophic events that can negatively impact the decision making strategies. The initial expectation is that a substantial gap exists between the voting rates of the socially advantaged because the latter are less informed about politics, feel more alienated from the political system and are not the main target of mobilization efforts by political parties One of the problems with countries with voluntary voting is that participation is low participation which can also be called low electoral turnout. one of the problems most democratic states with voluntary voting have, is the turnout of electoral processes. • 33. Bill Williams Town Description A Visit to Williams Williams, AZ, is a historic town located west of Flagstaff in Coconino County. With a population of a little over 3000 permanent residents, Williams seems like just any other small town lost in the mountains of northern Arizona, but nothing could be further from the truth. In an area originally called Wii Gvʼul by the indigenous Havasupai people, the town of Williams was founded in 1881 and incorporated in 1901. Bill Williams, a locally renowned scout, trapper, and an all around Mountain Man, was the inspiration for naming the town. Bill Williams Mountain, just south of town, is also named for him. And, of course, the Old Bill statue still stands in Memorial Park. Although Bill Williams is not a household name outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Main Street in Williams is still designated as Route 66 and many of the town s restaurants, museums, and gift shops reflect its Route 66 heritage. The Williams Historic Business District and Urban Route 66, Williams are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Grand Canyon Railroad (GCR), has its main depot and terminus in Williams. Started by the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway in 1901, early GCR passengers included famed naturalist John Muir who wrote how impressed he was with the railroad s limited impact on the local environment. Costs for the 64 mile trip was $3.95. In 1905, the Santa Fe company opened El Tovar, a hotel for visitors who wanted to spend the night at the Grand Canyon. Constructed just 20 feet from the edge of the South Rim, El Tovar afforded its guests an unparalleled view of the Canyon. The hotel is still in use today. The rise in automobile ownership after World War II caused suspension of operations of the GCR in 1968. On its final trip in July of that year, the train carried only three passengers. In the mid 1980 s, the line was purchased by Max and Thelma Beigert and on September 17, 1989, began its new life and once again started carrying passengers to the Grand ... The people will be submitted to a dictatorship. That s why freedom of speech is so important because is the main and the introductory part to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. The founding fathers wrote this right to make sure that United States will be a different country, a better country where everyone could understand each other and that what happened to them (British government) will not happen ever again. In a democratic government also depends on freedom of press and freedom of assembly. Freedom of press is the occurrences that happen every day that are informed or detailed through television, newspaper, internet, magazines or speech without adding or removing any type of information that do not benefit a particular sector. And also is that the people have the right to have their own type of press to express their ideas. Today, freedom of press is a utopia because every country has their own secrets, and covers important information to their citizens. With freedom of press, the countries will have a perfect government not so perfect but the people need to know the truth. The democratic government is a form of government in which the people, either directly or indirectly, take part in governing. Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried. This is because there is no system that can perfectly order society. Usually the purpose of democracy is to prevent tyranny (the accumulation of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Crusades Impact From 1095 CE to 1291 CE, there was a total of nine Crusades that spanned from Western Europe to the Middle East. The Crusades were military campaigns fought between the Christians and the Muslims, and their justification was to obtain control of Jerusalem: the Holy Land. The impact of the Crusades can still be seen today, as they were an important factor in the modernization of Western Europe s civilization. The Crusades affected many parts of the world, including the people who fought in these battles and the others who were at home. These wars directly affected the role of the Church in Europe, since the Crusades were fought in the name of Christ and they provided the wealth and power the church gained as a product of the Crusades. Not only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Christians who fought in the Crusades learned better and newer ways of doing mundane day to day things from the Muslims, who had more advanced methods of doing what the Europeans had been doing more simply for centuries. For example, in Jerusalem, Muslim doctors discovered painkillers, which were used for when the doctors would perform amputations, so the operation would be relatively painless for the patient. This was more sophisticated than the Europeans way of amputating, which was to hack off the limb while holding down the patient, with no drugs to kill the pain. The Muslim way of performing surgery was quickly adopted by the Europeans after the Crusades. Before the wars, Christians were known for being dirty and relatively smelly. That changed after the Holy Wars; Muslims wash very often due to religious practices, and the Christians adopted their methods of washing and became accustomed to using soap to bathe every day. The crusaders who returned home brought soap for others to utilize. They then were able to emulate and create their own soap, and they discovered that cleanliness would help stop common diseases from being spread as quickly and easily throughout the ... • 36. The Importance Of My High School Band I play the French horn in my high school band. Our band is small only 25 30 members but we are a family. Each class I see the determination on each person s face to do well because there s the constant pressure of letting the rest of the band down. Because we are so small, each person has to play to the absolute best of their abilities; each individual person needs to be a strong player in order for our band to sound good. I ve played in larger bands on several occasions and I was shocked to see that some kids would just... not play. Our band cannot afford that leniency. Our size in itself is a challenge. However, I have personal struggles within the band as well. There have only been two French horn players in my band for the entirety of my high school career: myself and the number one horn player in the state, Cross. My whole life I have played second to an amazing musician but while I improved by playing with him, I also never received any recognition for my personal achievements or was ever granted the primary leadership position. I often struggle to comprehend how good of a player I am, especially because I have performance anxiety which hinders me during auditions and most performances. I constantly compare myself to this amazing player who auditions well, who is regularly being recognized for musical achievements, and who can never quite understand the concept of humility. He never understood my struggle, so I was left adrift in an overwhelming sea of ineptitude. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Ruby Primer In order to test whether the curry leaf possesses one of the 6 alleles and whether it has a Ruby gene promoter, PCR and gel electrophoresis was used. Primers, short DNA sequences designed specifically for each allele of the Ruby gene, were used to isolate the gene and amplify it for PCR. Multiple PCRs were performed, each using a different primer set. Primers attach to specific regions surrounding the gene and amplify only the region that is flanked. The forward primer is bound to a specific sequence before the Ruby promoter, found to precede the actual gene sequence, and the reverse primer is bound to the DNA after the gene. In order for visible bands for gel electrophoresis to be produced, a forward primer must bind to one strand of DNA and a reverse primer must bind to the strand complementary to the one the forward primer binds to. If both primers bind to the same strand, the PCR product formed will not produce a result after gel electrophoresis. The size of the gel band of the DNA amplified by the primer will determine the identity of the allele. Band sizes will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, the primers and PCR products for each allele can differ. The Curry Leaf does not possess any sequences corresponding to the primers used in this experiment as it did into produce gel results; therefore, none of the investigated alleles are present in curry leaf trees. However, no clear determination was made regarding promoter presence. Curry leaf trees may simply possess a different allele that required different primers for DNA isolation and amplification to occur. This allele may still possess a promoter. The allele the curry leaf has must be identified and compared to the gene sequence of a plant with the same allele but is known not to express red coloring. If the curry leaf possesses a longer sequence compared to this plant, it may contain a promoter because it has the extra base pairs of a promoter sequence preceding a ...
