Imperialism In Africa
Imperialism was a time of new inventions, technology, and many other things. Imperialism had many
positive things like, transportation, spread of technology, and an increase in education. Because of
Imperialism transportation became a thing. Also communication with other foreign countries became a
thing. Then there was an increase in education too. Without imperialism transportation would not be a
thing. One example is railroads, railroads are used for transporting people to and from their
destinations. Another example are steamboats, without steamboats people would never be able to
transport their goods to and from. People will say but slaves made these railroads. Well without
transportation everyone would have to walk to every single place we wanted to go. Because of
imperialism spread of languages around the world started to happen. An example of this is that now
tribes can communicate with other foreign countries, this is good because now we can understand
tribes and what they are trying to say to us. Also other foreign countries can communicate with each
other, like africans can now learn and speak english because a lot of Africa s land in taken over by
great britain. A very good thing about the spread of languages is that we can learn new languages
ourselves and speak to the countries we have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this happening kids will grow up with an a lot better education than most kids. Also the
kids will grow up and be able to get a job, they will be able to get a job because they have a better
education than most kids. Since you will probably get a job with your education, it will not just be a
lazy job it will be a fairly good job. This is because you have met all of your requirements to get the
job education wise and you can do the job right. People might say well not everyone will get a good
education. Yes that is true but the people who are able to go to school will have a very good

Gilded Age Hero
The world is constantly evolving. Time periods come and go, but certain ones stay with us and are
remembered greatly. Of such, the Gilded Age is one of those few that made a very large impact on our
world today. The Gilded Age is the period in American history from around 1870 1900 s where the
United States population and economy grew quickly in a short amount of time causing extensive
amounts of slave work and wealthy individuals to live pretentious lifestyles. During this period, John
D. Rockefeller, The founder of the Standard Oil Company, became one of the world s well known
wealthiest individuals and a major philanthropist. In total, he controlled some 90 percent of the nation

Rockefeller was in fact a villain, he is also thought of as a hero to the Gilded Age because of the few
good acts he did. During the Gilded Age, oil was very expensive and difficult to acquire.Overall, only
the wealthy and well privileged had much access to it, but Standard Oil developed the world s largest
oil refineries and drove down the cost of refining oil, (World Book, Rockefeller). With Rockefeller as
the head of the company, he was able to expand access of oil to those who didn t have as much money
and produce large amounts of oil for little cost. With his new ideas and methods, he was able to cut
down oil cost and produce more of it more efficiently and quicker than that of the past. Due to
becoming one of the wealthiest individuals in the United States, Rockefeller had a substantial amount
of money and He gave away about $540 million during his lifetime. He gave most of his money to the
public through foundations he established himself and through other organizations, (World Book,
Rockefeller). These other foundations, which were mainly universities, highly profited and grew off of
these generous donations from Rockefeller. They are still functioning today and Rockefellers impact
on them has never been forgotten. As a result, John D. Rockefeller was thought of to be a hero rather
than a villain. Besides all this good he may have done, his selfish acts can t go unseen and unnoticed
from his action.
John D Rockefeller lived a higher, better life than almost every American during this time age. He also
obtained an extravagant amount of power through his work and company. His good deeds were
overruled by his many bad deeds therefore making him a villain rather than a hero.

The Oligarch s Idea Of Athenian Democracy
On the first meeting of the Assembly at the Pnyx, Thearion, the celebrity baker who intriguingly bakes
his loaves of bread into the shape of animals, served as herald and sacrificed a boar to the Goddess
Demeter, hoping she would bless the day and allow for the rebuild and healing of Athens to decisively
begin. However, it seems Demeter was not immediately impressed with the offering, as shortly
thereafter a rain quall blew in from the Saronic Gulf and brought upon a deluge that dismayed
hundreds of Athenians attending the Assembly and innervated their sense to flee the area. Those
resilient enough to stay, including Aristarchus, an Oligarch who presided over the assembly that day,
understood the results of that day s debate, which would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A last second proposition by the Solonian Aristocrat Miltiades to publically fund the arts and preserve
Athenian culture also soundly passed.
On the fourth day at the Pnyx, the trial initiated by Theozitides was held. Simon the cobbler provided
the pig sacrifice to the goddess Athena and the Assembly, led this day by Thrasybulus, set out to
determine the fate of Socrates. Lycon, Anytus, and Meletus formed the prosecution, accusing Socrates
of being aligned with the Thirty, profaning the Gods, and corrupting the youth to Athenian way of life.
They deemed Socrates crimes of corruption and impiety did not merit the death penalty, but were
serious enough to merit exile.
Socrates defendants included his disciples Crito and Xenophon. Both rebuked the claim that Socrates
was guilty of corruption and impiety, claiming their teacher was merely a thinker who circulated new
ideas and always acted in the best interest of Athens; he was a verily a gadfly who was concerned with
the intellectual health of Athens and all

ACL Injuries
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) has limited range of motion, which leads to it being the most
frequently injured ligament singularly (Ireland, 1999). This study was conducted to present the
epidemiology on ACL injuries in female athletes (Ireland, 1999). Epidemiology is the part of science
that focuses on the causes, effects, and patterns of disease and health conditions that occur in specific
populations. The epidemiology in this article focuses on female athletes that have had a noncontact
ACL injury playing either basketball or soccer (Ireland, 1999). As previously stated, the subjects were
female athletes who play/played basketball or soccer. The data for this article came from MEDLINE

Lowering this rate would allow female athletes of all levels to have a lower probability of ACL injury.
Sex difference has proven that female athletes are more likely to have an ACL injury than males.
Since we are unable to change our sex (intrinsic factor), the focus must then be placed on the factors
that can be modified. A list of these factors include: preparation, skill acquisition (from a young age),
and playing style (Ireland, 1999). The factors listed are all controllable extrinsic factors, focusing on
these and the partially controllable factors could aid in the prevention of ACL injuries in

Article Analysis Paper
Article Analysis Paper The United States consumes more than 25% of the world s petroleum products
which is a large percentage, considering only 3% of the world s oil reserves are produced by the
United States. Given the demand for petroleum products such as gasoline, understanding why Crude
oil prices have skyrocketed in recent years, is not hard. According to the article Ending America s Oil
Addiction, the surge in crude oil prices can be reduced in large part to the simple concepts of supply
and demand. (Cooper, 2008) This paper will define terms such as economics, micro economics, the
law of supply, the law of demand and the factors which lead to a change in supply and demand. This

90) Since 2004 the demand for gasoline has been constant and the price of gasoline has continued to
rise, causing gasoline expenditures to rise astronomically. However, given that an acceptable substitute
for gasoline does not exist, consumers are unable to cutback on the amount of gasoline being
consumed. The article suggests that some reasons for consumers inability or unwillingness to cutback
on the consumption of gasoline are long commutes, the use of vehicles which are not fuel efficient and
a lack of alternative solutions such as carpooling and public transit options. The law of supply also
suggests that if a firm cuts back on the amount of a good being supplied, the cost of cutting back
outweighs the cost of continuing the supply. The Law of Demand The examination of the correlation
between the price of a good and the law of demand is necessary to predict how market forces react to
a reduced supply of goods. Dictionary.com defines price as the sum or amount of money or its
equivalent for which anything is bought, sold, or offered for sale. (para. 2) Price is an essential
ingredient of the law of demand. The law of demand is quantity demanded decreases as price
increases, all other things being constant (Colander, 2004, p. 188) The substitution of alternate goods
accounts for the law of demand. As the price of goods such as gasoline increases, people tend to
replace it with similar goods which may have a lower price. If a good has

(1970 s Today) ` The Tragically Hip The Tragically hip(Known as Canada s Band ) was formed in
1983 in Kingston,Ontario. The band consists of 6 members led by lead singer Gord Downie who are
all on the same mission. Their mission is to make Canada shine as a nation. The Hip sing about
Canada s History,Geography and Events that have happened and how it has impacted us positively
and negatively.(Pearson) For Example, in the song Another Midnight, Gord Downie sings, Perhaps we
re election day, pumping hands and kissing all the babies/ Ain t no time for shadowed doubts or

which almost led Canada to a civil war(Warner). All these lyrics show how the hip is including

Dgs Is More Advantageous Than Pbg Or Ebg Structures
DGS is more advantageous than PBG or EBG structures:
(1) For implementing EBG structures, a very large area is required to implement the periodic pattern
and it is also very difficult to define the unit element of EBG structure whereas DGS structures has
properties similar to EBG and the geometry of DGS can be one or very few etched structures which is
very simpler and also does not require large area for implementation of it.
(2) DGS can be easily designed and implemented. It has higher precision with rectangular shaped
defect structures. Therefore it is very good option to extend its practical applications. In my project, I
have designed and simulated microstrip patch antenna at operating frequency 2.4GHz using HFSS
software .It has Substrate (FR4) having dielectric constants of 4.4.I have designed single patch
antenna without DGS, 2x1 array antenna and 4x1 array antenna without DGS ,4x1 array antenna with
DGS (Dumbbell shaped , Double Circular shaped, E shaped) and analyze the results. I analyze that I
god improved results in 4x1 array antenna configuration with E shaped DGS structure in terms of
Voltage Standing Wave Ratio of 1.12, Return loss of 22.12 dB, Bandwidth of 404 MHz, Gain of 7 dB
etc.
1.1 Problem Statement : Design Microstrip array antenna with Improved DGS structure for
Performance Improvement.

has been said that the only way to cure prostate cancer, was to drink at least 100 glasses of red wine

The Industrial Revolution of Great Britain
The Industrial Revolution of Great Britain
The Industrial Revolution was a period from the 18th to the 19th century where major changes in
agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transport, and technology had a tremendous effect on the social
economic and cultural conditions starting in the Great Britain, then subsequently spreading throughout
Europe, North America, and eventually the world. Reasons The Industrial Revolution, one of the most
vital periods of change in Great Britain, occurred because of the stable economic, social, and political
stance of the country, as well as brought lasting effects in Britain in each of these areas. With its fast

Process The First Industrial Revolution began in the textile industry and was marked by a series of
inventions. They were the Spinning Jenny, the water frame, the power loom and the steam engine.
These inventions completed the mechanization of the textile industry and prepared the way for a new
system of production: large scale industry. With these developments came a need for a cheap means of
transportation. To meet it, entrepreneurs invested in digging canals to ship goods to market. In 1814,
the steam locomotive was invented. The first railway was completed in 1825. By 1850, Great Britain
had established a railroad system encompassing over 10,000 kilometers of track. Meanwhile, it had
also built a large merchant fleet, which carried British manufactured goods to all parts of the world.
By the middle of the 19th century, The Industrial Revolution was accomplished in Great Britain. The
First Industrial Revolution had forever changed Great Britain, and later the world. After 1871,
however, Europe was experiencing tremendous material growth produced by the Second Industrial
Revolution, also known as the Technological Revolution. The Second Industrial Revolution gave rise
to new inventions and products, markets and larger factories, and a new leader in the competitive
industry. In this period, Great Britain

When he becomes the leader of the world and even before he thinks he has a noble cause to try a stop

The Creation, Death And Rebirth Of The Universe, And The...
There are many myths across the cultures that depict how people believe they were created. Two
myths that discuss creation cycles are The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe and The
Creation Cycle . In The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe , the Norse gods believe that
there is a creation, death, and rebirth tales to how the people have evolved through time. In The
Creation Cycle the Aztecs did not have original myths to support their evolution. The Aztecs would
conform and adapt others myths and incorporate them into their own culture and add to them. In both
myths it is discussed how gods are more like human beings and held accountable for their behavior.
They also both discuss the evolution through the times as humans and gods progress into what is
mankind today. The Norse gods and people believe that they first evolved from the remains of the
giant Ymir. In the beginning, nothing existed but Ginnungagap, an open void ( The Creation, Death,
and Rebirth of the Universe 461). Ymir evolved from the ice that had melted from the foam that had
frozen earlier in time. Ymir was thought to be evil and kept producing offspring from the sweat of his
underarms. The God Buri came to existence by Audhumla licking a salty block of ice and he emerged
( The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe 461). Buri had three sons Odin, Vili, and Ve who
grew concerned that the Giants were becoming more populated than the Aesir (Einherjar, 2016). The

What Role Do The Witches Play In Macbeth
The witches play a vital role in Macbeth; they all have supernatural powers in which they use to feed
the manipulated Macbeth with his ambition:

Macbeth was written in The Middle Ages. Shakespeare was inspired by England and Scotland. He
also uses many literary devices like foreshadowing. A perfect example is when Macbeth hears a voice
while he is killing King Duncan. It foreshadows the insomnia that plagues Lady Macbeth and

reader expects that Macbeth is going to suicide or to get crazy because it was his wife and the one
whom he could relieve his conscious, but he just stays calm and denies that death is normal in life.
Dramatic Irony is used many times specifically with all the witches prophecies foreshadowing all the

The Purpose Of The Kaufman Speech To Language Protocol
The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol targets the production of specific phonemes, then builds
on these skills to elicit word level productions and eventually conversational speech. In addition, SLPs
utilize phonological processes to help the child produce target words. For example, if the target word
is bubble, but the child is unable to spontaneously produce the word, the SLP can instruct the child to
say /bub/, deleting the final consonant /l/ for easier production. As the child progresses, the
phonological processes are faded and whole words are produced. Consequently, speech intelligibility
is improved. 4. Describe the purpose of the approach. The purpose of the Kaufman Speech to
Language Protocol (K SLP) is to shape the child s current level of speech production into higher levels
of motor speech coordination. Essentially, this therapy technique aims to isolate speech components
and increase motor skills at a reasonable pace. When simpler oral motor movements have been
mastered, children s therapy focus will shift to higher level speech motor movements, along with
correct use of morphology and syntax. It is a treatment approach for children with childhood apraxia
of speech (CAS), other speech sound disorders, and expressive language challenges.
With this technique, speech is broken down into syllable patterns, vowels, and consonants. For
instance, if a child struggles with the consonant /p/, then therapy sessions would focus on that concept
solely. The

Marijuana User Summary
In relation to the differences in experimental, recreational, and being addicted to an illicit drug, I
would have to agree with Howard Beckers Becoming a Marijuana User, which he wrote in 1953. As
for the action of those in the category of experimental drug users, I believe that those are the ones who
have been aroused by some external factors, such as friends and/or media influences, as to the high
feelings that are associated with the effects of drugs, for the first time. Becker put it in a better sensible
notion when his study revealed: the process of learning to use and learning to associate its effects with
a sense of pleasure (Humphrey Schmalleger, 2012). With recreational drug usage, those are the people
who have come to know

Themes In All Quiet On The Western Front
Lost Generation on the Western Front In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria
Remarque demonstrates, through the character of Paul Baumer, how World War I was one of the
bloodiest wars in history. With more than 18 million deaths and 23 million wounded, it left a lasting
memory to many. Most of these men were young, so many of the men that came back after the war
had mental issues and were lost with society. Such things like Kemmerich s boots, the red poppies,
and the senselessness of the war itself. All of these teenagers that took on war at a very young age
were known in history as the lost generation . In the beginning of the war, many of these young
soldiers including Paul and his friends did not know what to expect. As the come into camp they
notice all the little things, such as the butterflies, white clouds, the red poppies in the field, and as the
wind plays with our hair (9). The red poppies in the field symbolizes the bloody mess the great war
gave. To what the great war gave, was nothing. These men as they were now called lost everything

Persuasive Essay On Tree Stump

recently had one cut down in your yard, were you left with a stump that s getting in the way of your
landscaping plans? Although you may be tempted to pull the stump on your own, tree stump removal
is not usually a good do it yourself project for new homeowners. Here are some reasons why you
should hire a professional company to take care of the procedure for you: Time: Digging a stump up
and pulling it out of the ground can take a long time, even if the stump doesn t appear to be large at

Assess The Role Of Tattooing In Non-Western Culture
The art of tattooing has been around for centuries, with origins dating back before the year 325, when
it was banned by the Roman Empire and made its return once again around the 18th century via
British explorers returning from Polynesia. Tattooing practices vary around the world, specifically in
their meaning and significance cross culturally. For instance, tattooing practices and significance in
Western cultures vary significantly than in non Western cultures. Specifically, in traditional cultures,
tattooing often marks a crucial period or a rite of passage in an individual s life, such as the transition
from childhood into adulthood. In Polynesian societies, specifically amongst the Maori people, the art

Haviland, Kilmurray, Fedorak, Lee (2013) note one of the most intricate forms [of tattooing] is found
among the New Zealand Maori, whose moko, facial swirls, are chiselled into the face as a sign of
cultural pride (p. 319). Maori tattoos, known to the Maori people as moko, is a pre twentieth century
tattooing practice where the tattoo marks both the division and the link between the body and Maori
spirituality (Pritchard, 2000, 2001). Lévi Strauss (1963) notes that the Maori believed the body to be a
surface meant to be imprinted by culture, noting the purpose of Maori tattooings is not only to imprint
a drawing onto the flesh but also to stamp onto the mind all the traditions and philosophy of the group
(p. 257). In essence, the Maori people believed that an individual s life force is displayed by their
tattoos. For instance, Shand notes: For Maori ... [the] embracing sense of culture is guided by the
concepts of mauri [life force] and wairoa [spirit] which together inform all meaningful forms or

Character Analysis Of Neighbor Rosicky By Willa Cather

The story follows him, his family, and his memories with him in the middle of it all because of his
heart condition which initially leads to his death in the end by a heart attack. I would describe Rosicky
as such a kindhearted, sweet, loving individual whose intentions rely on the happiness of others
around him and a person I wanted to see live. Throughout his whole life, all he did was give and give
to friends, family, and strangers, and made him known as that person. I would give Mr. Rosicky the
characteristics of being calm as the first. For example, when Dr. Ed told him about his failing heart,
Rosicky was shocked at first but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

finally called him Father for the first time. With this story, Cather addresses the loss of a good
friend/family member and shows how even if a person is extremely kind and giving, that doesn t stop
death but it will leave behind a good legacy. I think what the author was trying to give off in this story
was to live a positive and happy life like Rosicky did and no matter what situation you were in at first,
things will change for the better like when he left London for New York.

Salvation And Redemption In The Scarlet Letter
In The Scarlet Letter, author Nathanial Hawthorne utilizes an intricate combination of history and
fiction, to depict the events that occurred in seventeenth century Massachusetts Bay Colony. During
this period of time, the Anglican Church of England had an altercation with the other religious sects,
so they decided to flee to the Boston Colony, in an effort to establish religious freedom. The Puritans
were immensely religious, and lived by a stringent code of ethics. In addition, their relationship with
God was based upon theocracy, predestination, the Bible, and sin. In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne
incorporates the Puritans strict code into a fictional story, detailing the trials and tribulations of a
Puritan woman named Hester Prynne. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Redemption is a fundamental component of the Puritan Ethic. The Puritans strongly believed in the
words and beliefs of God, and ensured that all Puritan beliefs reflected God s sovereignty. Opposed to
the Catholic belief that priests presided over the congregation as holier than the rest , Puritans
followed the Old Testament and its teachings of salvation. They believed that God would choose who
was worthy of salvation, which is a clear example of predestination. Thus, those who did not adhere to
these principles were condemned (The Puritan Beliefs). Throughout the story, several main characters
are trying to achieve salvation in the eyes of God. Reverend Dimmesdale declares his sins on the
scaffold several times, Hester Prynne confesses to her wrongdoings, and Roger Chillingworth
exemplifies the search for salvation through guilt. Furthermore, during this time period, women were
looked upon as inferior. As a result, their punishments would be more severe than men, making
salvation virtually unattainable for Hester (Richardson). The underlying ethical values of atonement
and restitution in the novel, closely represent the true beliefs of the Puritans, according to historical

9.1 DHCP SNOOPING
What Is DHCP?
Hosts communicate with each other through addressing in a network. At first devices used to be
assigned unique static IP addresses. But, this system could not be scaled up when mobile devices
became more common. Modifying each device s address, such as that of a mobile phone or laptop,
each time it moved from one location to another became very complex.
To resolve this issue, dynamic address configuration was developed, and soon became the standard
addressing system for most networks around the world. All kinds of networks, from coffee shops to
corporate networks, use the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to connect a multitude of
devices to the internal networks as well as the Internet. However, ... Show more content on

When DHCP snooping is enabled, a database called the DHCP snooping table or binding table is
created. This database stores the lease information from the switching device. This includes the IP
MAC address binding, the lease time for the IP address, the type of binding, VLAN name, and
interface for each host.
The entries in the binding table are updated when significant changes occur in the network. For
example, when a client sends a DHCPRELEASE message to release an IP address, the corresponding
entry in the table is deleted. The entry associated with a device is also deleted if the timeout value or
lease time of the IP address assigned by the DHCP server expires. However, if you move a network
device from one VLAN to another, the device acquires a new IP address. In this case, the
corresponding entry, including its VLAN ID, is updated in the table. DHCP Snooping Process
Here s what happens when DHCP snooping is enabled on a switching device:
A network host requests for an IP address by sending a DHCPDISCOVER packet to the switching
device.
The switching device sends the packet to the DHCP server.
The server in turn offers the host an IP address by returning a DHCPOFFER packet to the switching
device.
The switching device confirms that the offer is from a trusted interface, and sends the packet to the
host.
The host then accepts the address through a DHCPREQUEST packet.
The switching device adds a placeholder entry for the

Comparing Heart Of Darkness And Heart Of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s book, Heart of Darkness, Francis Coppola s film, Apocalypse Now, and Werner
Herzog s film, Aguirre Wrath of God are very interesting productions, each with their own unique
point of view and illuminating agenda. The book in itself and the films prove to be an excellent source
about violence brought on by imperialism and/or colonialism and how, as a consequence, the
definition of civilized and savage becomes blurred. Via the films, The audience can derive a lot of
pleasure not only from listening to melodies and rhythms that create moods and heighten emotions
provoked by the story, but also from analysing the ways the music reinforces the symbolic richness of
the literary work, establishes new relationships between its elements, sheds a new light on its
meanings and multiplies its interpretative perspectives (Marciniak 67). Having said this, that is not to
say that Heart of Darkness lacked in keeping my attention. I very much enjoyed the internal and
external dialogue that Conrad provides along with his descriptive commentary about the events at
hand. Although the films are considered adaptations of Conrad s book, they both have distinctive ways
of getting the same concepts across to an audience. All in all, after reading and viewing these
constructions it is clear that every individual is able to create their own outlook on how they prefer to
view the delineations of what it takes to be considered civilized or savage; of course, through the

Ethical Dilemmas In Nursing Essay
A2 In the scenario, the physician s action violated the principles of non maleficence, beneficence and
autonomy. First off, the principle of non maleficence is violated as physicians should strive not to
harm patients. For case A2, the doctor allowed the patient s serious condition to worsen while
knowing that the disease is treatable, only for the sake of observing how the disease progresses. The
doctor blatantly places the patient in harm simply to fulfil his own curiosity and research progress,
rendering his actions considered to be violating the principles of non maleficence. Second, the doctor
also violated the principle of beneficence. As a doctor, we should do what is best for the health of the
patients, treating patients in the ways ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To start off, the doctor has violated the principle of autonomy as he ignored the woman s wishes
which are fully supported by her family. Having a sound mind and the ability to make decisions, the
patient should have her will respected by doctors. In the case, despite the fact that the patient s family
verbally told the doctor about the patient s will to go home, her decision is not respected by the doctor,
who kept her hospitalised until she dies. Autonomy means that the key decisions of a person s life
should be determined by the patient herself if possible. Given that in the case, the patient is already
terminally ill and in the end stage of life, her will to go home should be respected by the doctor,
rendering the doctor s action a violation of the principle of autonomy. Second, the principle of
beneficence is also violated. Beneficence means doing what is beneficial to the patient. This, however,
is not only limited to the promotion of good health, but also doing what the patient judges to be
beneficial. In the case, the patient deems that going home and die in her own bed, surrounded by her
family is more beneficial to her than having a few more weeks to live. The doctor, therefore, should do

My Favorite Teacher In High School
Third Grade. Most people remember learning multiplication, getting more homework, and a very
slight increase in responsibility. What s my most vivid memory? The time my teacher was rushed to
the hospital during the school day. My homeroom teacher, Mrs. Hauge is still one of the nicest
teachers I ve had today. She taught the cluster classroom, which is when all the kids the school
considers Gifted Learners are all put in one class rather than being split up so that they can more easily
be taught what they need. She was always nice, and not very strict. Basically, she was my favorite
teacher all through elementary school. While her trip to the hospital was a traumatic experience for the
whole class, it really shaped me as an individual. Mrs. Hauge is an older teacher. She wears glasses
attached to a beaded necklace, and her faded blond hair was cut in a short bob. Every year on the day
before winter break, without fail she would go to the front of the third grade hallway with reindeer
ears and bells, and sing holiday songs like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Jingle Bells. Every
year after I was in her class, I returned to the third grade wing on that day to sing songs with her in the
morning before school starts, as did a lot of her other past students. One day in November, I had an
exciting day. And not in a good way. The day started as normal; we had morning meeting, did our
grammar exercises, and filed out of the classroom to go to music. However, when we were

Adolescent Rumination
The majority of research investigating rumination and its role in the maintenance and exacerbation of
depressive mood has been conducted in adults. However, a few of studies have examined
developmental changes in rumination and its relation to concurrent depression, and depressive
symptoms over time, in youth samples. Research on developmental changes in emotion regulation
strategies has found age dependent increases in emotion focused coping among children and
adolescents, indicating that these strategies may be underdeveloped in childhood (e.g., Compas,
Malcarne, Fondacaro, 1988; D. Donaldson, Prinstein, Danovksy, Spirito, 2000; Frydenberg Lewis,
1993). One study focusing specifically on ruminative coping found that the occurrence of rumination
tends to increase from late childhood through adolescence, ages 8 to 14 years, and that children and

In a review, Rood, Roelofs, Bogels, Nolen Hoeksema, and Schouten (2009) identified cross sectional
and longitudinal studies that examined the relations between rumination and symptoms of depression
in non clinical youth. The authors then pooled the effect sizes from each study into an overall weighed
effect size. Regarding the cross sectional findings, the mean effect size for the relation between
rumination and concurrent levels of depressive symptoms was moderate for child samples (r = .36,
95% CI [.31, .40]) and moderate to high for adolescent samples (r = .48, 95% CI [.46 to .51]). Pooled
effect sizes for longitudinal studies investigating the role of rumination in the maintenance and
exacerbation of depressive symptom were low for the child samples (r = .27, 95% CI [.21, .33]) and
moderate for the adolescent samples (r = .36, 95% CI [.31, .42]). These results indicate that
rumination is significantly related to depressive symptoms in youth, but that the relation is stronger in
adolescents than

Six Elements or Aspects for Group Meeting Recovery
1) Learn from other people s experiences: I learned that when other group members share their
experiences it usually incudes relapsing. If a client has no experience with relapsing he/she can and
probably will learn that relapsing is a part of recovery.
2) Learn coping skills: A client may learn skills that will help them from doing the same thing that
contributed to their addiction. They may learn that continuing to attend meetings, meditation,
exercising and in some cases medicine may avert them form using drugs again.
3) Get in touch with a higher power: Client may have never gotten in touch with his/her higher power.

Body Paragraphs:
I. Before we get to our solution for overpopulation, it is important to understand it.
A. As the United Nations, you most likely know what overpopulation is, but I am here to tell you what
I know about the topic.
1. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, overpopulation is the condition of having a population so
dense as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a population crash (
Overpopulation, 2017).
2. Our human population is growing at a rate of approximately 78 million people a year ( Effects of
Human Overpopulation, 2013).
3. Overpopulation is happening because of the better medical facilities which equal more babies and
fewer deaths, and a lack of sexual education ( Effects of Human Overpopulation, 2013).
B. Because of the seven billion people on the planet ( Effects of Human Overpopulation, 2013), we
are forced to go through hardships.
1. Some of these hardships include less freedom, more restrictions, increased climate change, elevated
crime rate, and more ( Effects of Human Overpopulation, 2013).
2. With less freedom, people feel the need to rebel which can cause an elevation in crime rate. The less
freedom we have governments could give rise to a totalitarian

Significant Differences Between The Articles Of...
Introduction
There were significant differences between the governance system under the articles of confederation
and the new constitution. The weaknesses of the later caused bad experiences and the clamor for a
new constitution. For instance, under the articles of confederation, congress had no power over
interstate or foreign commerce (Constitution Society, n.d). States made their decisions that were not
always in the best interest of the whole nation. In addition, all federal laws were enforced by the states
because congress did not have the capacity to implement them. The outcome is that some laws were
ignored or misinterpreted (Ablavsky, 2014). This paper compares and contrasts the form of

For instance, all federal laws were enforced by state courts because Congress had no way of enforcing
them. Therefore, states could just ignore them without fear of retribution (Ablavsky, 2014).
Furthermore, the constitution could only be amended with the approval of all countries, which made it
possible for some states to block legislation. Also, only state governments could act directly on the
people. The states were sovereign, and there was no independent executive. Lack of a presidential
figure meant that the U.S had no person to conduct foreign affairs. At one point, Britain complained
that there was no one to contact so as to initiate diplomacy (Clark, 2013). The emergence of the Shay
rebellion also demonstrated the weakness of the articles of the confederation because it was attributed
to the lack of a national army to respond to both internal and external aggression. The national
government was not allowed to raise an army and had no resources to finance a state militia.
Therefore, the rebellion demonstrated the need for a strong central government. These weaknesses
made it necessary for the U.S. to change its

The Impact Of The 1763 Treaty Of Paris
The 1763 Treaty of Paris was signed between the Great Britain, Spain, France and Portugal on 10th
February 1763. This treaty was signed after The Great Britain emerged a victor over Spain and France
during the Seven Years War. This treaty officially put an end to the Seven Years War also referred to as
the French and Indian War in the North America. Further, the signing of this treaty also was the start
of the era of the British domination outside Europe. In relation, this paper will examine the
concessions that were forced upon France by England as well as what England gave in return. Also,
this paper will discuss the significant role played by New World possessions in the treaty. In addition,
this paper will also assess the European balance of power and the philosophy of mercantilism.
In the 1763 Treaty of Paris, England and France returned most of the territory that they each captured
during the Seven Years War. There were various concessions that were forced upon France by England
who were the victors of the war. At the time of the war, Great Britain captured the French colonies
such as Dominica, Canada, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia, Tobago and the
Grenadines. In addition, England also captured the Senegal River and its settlements, the French
factories in India, the slave trading station at Gorée and the Spanish colonies of Havana and Manila

Continuity And Changes In The Western World Essay
The years of 1200 1750 were times of massive change in Western Europe and much of the world.
However, one of the most important turning points of the time period occurred when advances in
seafaring technology led the Americas to be discovered and trans regional trade to intensify and
expand across the globe. This intensification of trade led to the beginnings of the African slave trade
and the destruction of the indigenous peoples of South and Central America, which changed the
course of history. Despite all of this change, however, trade still remained a profound source of
cultural diffusion, and the influence and power of China on world trade and politics did not waver.

interested in expanding their global reach and newly invented seafaring technology such as the sextant

endeavor worth investing in. Portuguese and Spanish explorers such as Magellan and Columbus made
the discoveries that the Earth was larger than anybody had thought before and that there were more
continents than just Europe, African, and Asia, uncovering brand new possibilities that the monarchies
of Western Europe were happy to take advantage of. The biggest turning point of this time period was
the discovery of the Americas in 1492 by Christopher Columbus who was employed by the Spanish

Pros And Cons To Year-Round Education
Many school districts are faced with the problem of a growing student population coupled with a
shortage of school facilities and limited funds for new facilities. In response, some districts are
adopting or looking into year round education (YRE). In addition to maximizing the use of existing
schools for larger numbers of students, some education experts claim that year round school improves
student learning. With YRE, students attend school for the same number of days each year (180 days,
according to the U.S. Department of Education), but school breaks are arranged differently. A popular
YRE calendar uses a 60 20 plan, with students attending school for 60 days and then going on break
for 20. Other popular plans include 45 15 and 80 40. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cons to Year Round Education: Multitrack year round calendars eliminate the idea of a single class
using a single classroom. More storage space is usually required for students and teachers. Multitrack
year round calendars place additional demands on school support staff and on cafeteria, custodial and
maintenance services. Special accommodations must be made for annual school events like graduation
and parent conferences. Teachers who traditionally continue their own education during the summer
break need to find alternative forms of education and training. Working parents may find it harder to
find childcare for shorter breaks during the year than for the long summer break, when summer camp
and other full time activities are available. Families with children in different schools or districts may
be faced with conflicting school break schedules. Year Round School Pros and Cons By: Catie Watson

Success comes only to those who stand firm throughout the trials and tribulations the world has to
offer, as many people come to realize through the gaining of their personal life experience. In Big Two
Hearted River, Part I , Ernest Hemingway utilizes figurative language such as symbolism, imagery,
and metaphors in order to impart and emphasize the importance of one s determination to endure the
challenges of existence in relation to their overall prosperity. Readers are led to reflect on how
persevering through the negative experiences in one s life can ultimately lead to positive experiences,
as well as the role perseverance plays in the lifelong search for stability. According to Hemingway, the

It is unclear whether or not they will stay that way permanently, but Nick has hope that they will
overcome their unfortunate situation; when he wonders how long they will be stained, Nick is
insinuating that there will eventually come a day, be it in weeks or years, that the grasshoppers will
return to their natural state. Hemingway uses this metaphor to parallel our perception of Nick himself.
The trauma Nick has endured throughout his life has impacted him as well as his identity significantly,
but there is hope and the promise of a better future if he is willing to withstand the burden in the
meantime. This sentiment is echoed by Nick when he lets go of the grasshopper, instructing it to fly

sullied by their experiences, as they might be for a while, there is a way for them to be free and thus,
there must be a way for Nick to be free as well. The rewards that follow in the wake of a negative or
traumatic event are earned by the mere fact that an individual was not willing to be swayed from their
path or to give up simply on the basis that it was difficult. Nick himself sums it up rather nicely when
he states that he s ...got a right to eat this kind of stuff, if [he s] willing to carry it (215) referring to, of

Mckean Graphic Novels
In this report I shall be discussing the historical context of the development of graphic novels that
changed in the last three decades. The visual language has shifted art styles and developed different
opinions on what are proper storytelling and a comic. I shall be analysing what is the visual language
for graphic novels. After analysing the visual language I shall be comparing to an illustrator and artist,
Dave McKean. He is a personal interest that has influenced my art style for two years in generating
Gothic, dark toned imagery. McKean has developed a unique visual language towards comic and
graphic novels, questioning if we could further beyond the usual similarity. What is his point of
comics and the visual language? He provided illustrations for several novels working with different
authors, but I ll be exploring his work with his collaborator Neil Gaiman. This partnership sold many

The Tax Reform Act Of 1986
More than 25 years ago, there was a major overhaul of the U.S. corporate tax system. The Tax Reform
Act of 1986 reduced a corporate tax rate from 46 percent to 34 (Gross Schadewald, 2012, p. 40). The
federal budget deficit forced the government to lower the corporate tax rate. The level of corporate tax
rate in the USA was lower than it was in Canada, Germany, and France. The tax rate for corporations
remained unchanged until 2011. In 2011, fiscal barriers led to changes of the tax reform. Today, the
reform package includes the exclusion of deductions and credits, and tax rate reduction. However, the
net effect of those components may boost the tax liability of domestic companies.
The most recent economic crisis influenced the changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The value of study cannot be overemphasized since the federal tax reform is a driving factor of
success of U.S. companies within country borders and in the global market.
Literature Review
The main objective of many companies is to minimize their tax obligations. Jeffers (2014) discussed
the reason of why companies adopt tax inversion strategies. The researcher indicated that the income
maximization is a major reason of companies attempting to reduce their tax liability (pp. 100 101).
Tax inversion strategies provide companies an advantage to lower income tax rate. Today, U.S.
corporations renounce its U.S. citizenship and move to low tax countries. Companies that
reincorporate oversees are not obligated to pay U.S. taxes on earning income (p. 99). Many countries
implement tax competition strategies to attract and retain businesses. Well known companies, such as
Exxon Mobil, Hewlett Packard, Tyco, General Electric, PepsiCo, etc. take benefits of tax shelter
opportunities overseas (p. 102). Other benefits of the jurisdiction abroad are flexible banking laws and
simplified litigation processes.
Bull, Dowd, and Moomau (2011) analyzed the macroeconomic perspectives of corporate tax reform.
The researchers indicated that it is important to consider changes in tax treatment reduce a current rate
from 35 percent to 30, and eliminate various loopholes in the

Personal Response To Tikkun Olam
As I write this, it is Rosh Hashanah, the first day of the Jewish year 5778. For the next ten days, Jews
will be introspective, and look critically at ourselves hoping to improve ourselves. Jews believe in the
concept of Tikkun Olam, which translates loosely to repairing the world; we believe humans have an
obligation outside of ourselves, to the planet and to other people. As my Rabbi sermonized, there are
people suffering across the globe, and whatever we can do, we must do, to alleviate suffering.
However, this idea is not only a religious one for me. My family worked for civil rights during the
turbulent 1960s. My parents worked with the Fair Housing Council of Los Angeles to desegregate our
white neighborhood. And, after the city of Watts was decimated by riots in 1965, my parents
volunteered at, and my sisters and I attended, a Head Start program there. This was a literacy pre
school program, free for any child, which was largely populated by minorities, and my parents felt
there should be Caucasian representation as well. So, partly because of my religious beliefs and partly
because of my political ones, I believe it is of importance to the moral, ... Show more content on

aid can be used to protect the United States from threats from other nations. Beyond humanitarian aid,
there is a more complex interpretation of what U.S. foreign aid is and what it does both for the
recipient country and America. For example, building democratic governments in other countries is
one strategy for fighting terrorism. The United States has long had the reputation of using its military
forces for good, such as during World War II when American soldiers helped to defeat Hitler s
Nazism. When dealing with a repressive regime which does not want to engage in democracy military
force may be necessary. I am convinced that the United States can provide a healthy dose of
overwhelming firepower if that is what it

Persuasive Essay On The Value Of Cars
Million dollar cars go deeper than simply driving to and from work. It s for the same reasoning that if
someone were to ask why a car enthusiast owns five vehicle, he would say the reasons go beyond the
car itself. A heart felt passion for the lion s roar of the engine and the fact the upscale luxury cars are
an artful masterpiece on rolling wheels. Such priorities encapsulate the one percent, and they purchase
outrageously cool cars for their swagger and flamboyance over efficiency and practicality. Here s a
collection of some of the best road legal cars, but for the purpose of clarity, the classic muscle cars
sold at auction have slipped past this list.
( removed HTML ) Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita $4.8 Million ( removed HTML )
The world s most expensive street legal car in production today, Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita costs such
an extravagant amount of dollars because the Swedish manufacturer literally coated it in diamonds,
making it one of the world s rarest supercars. The exterior finish technique could be called the
Koenigsegg Proprietary Diamond Weave. With that said, a touch up paint job probably costs an
unfathomable amount of dollars. Open the hood, and the V8 engine produces 1,004 horsepower with
797 lbs ft of torque. Not only is the Koenigsegg CCXR a work of art on wheels, put the pedal to the
metal and the driver will zip down the highway from zero to 60 in under 2.9 seconds, and the speeds
reach in excess of 250 mph. That s one fiery speed demon!

`` Cows, Pigs, Wars, And Witches By Marvin Harris
Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches by Marvin Harris divulges into some difference and components of
culture around the world. He answers question as to why individuals perform and act the way they do
in relation to culture. He looks at sexual hierarchies among Yanomamo culture as well as the Hindu s
respect for cows in India.
The Savage male chapter of the book attempts to explain human sexual hierarchies. There are two are
categorical areas that divide the theories; unmodifiable instincts and adaptiveness of lifestyles. Harris
expectation if sexual hierarchies were only decided by anatomy and cultural capacities are that women
would be the dominant gender because women are able to give birth. There is an expectation they
would modified or remove forces that may be harmful to them, and that the populations of males
would be smaller and feel more gratitude to the women. Their communities would consist of
polyandry. The men would desire sexual favor from the women and be inferior of the women.
Friedrich Engels believes that at one time this type of system did occur but the men decided to band
together and over through the women. Harris doesn t believe this has actually occurred because there
are no examples throughout society. The closest representation of this idea is present through 10 to 15
percent of the societies across the world participating in matrilineality. Although these societies
showcase matrilineality the women are not in control of the family affairs, a male from

The Importance Of Becoming A Professional Baseball Player
I have learned that if you get knocked down you always find a way to get back up
I started baseball when I was about six years old. I loved the game. I also remember telling my dad
when I grow up I m going to be a professional baseball player. He always responded with it takes a lot
to become a good baseball player but it takes even more to understand the game. Almost every day
after school I would sprint up the hill next to our house and plow through the door then beg my dad to
play baseball with me. We would be in the back yard for hours upon hours throwing and catching. We
would play whiffle ball for about an hour and then as soon as my dad hit a home run I would get really
angry with my dad, the reason for this is because I have always

Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) versus Serial Analysis of Gene Expression (SAGE)
INTRODUCTION Expressed sequence tag or also known as EST are 200 to 800 unedited nucleotide
bases in length, and randomly selected single pass sequence reads which are derived from the cDNA
libraries while serial analysis of gene expression or SAGE have more shorter sequence tags with only
10 to 20 base pairs. But even it is short it still have enough information to uniquely identify a
transcript, especially if it is obtained from a unique position in each of the transcripts. Serial analysis
of gene expression is a method or technique designed to gain a direct and quantitative measure of
overall gene expression pattern. It is basically a sequence based ... Show more content on

ETS also can determine definitively the number of copies of each transcript per cell and highlight any
differential gene expression. EST includes an inefficient sequencing step, in which one sequencing
process yields only one cDNA sequence. Although the more recent methods of hybridization based
analyses (DNA microarray) using immobilized cDNAs (Schena et al., 1995) or oligonucleotides
(Lockhart et al., 1996) can potentially examine the expression patterns of a relatively large number of
genes, the method can only examine expressed sequences that have already been identified. In
contrast, the SAGE method allows for a quantitative and simultaneous analysis of a large number of
transcripts in any particular cells or tissues, without prior knowledge of the genes (Velculescu et al.,
1995).
METHODOLOGY The SAGE method is based on the isolation of unique sequence tags from
individual mRNAs and concatenation of tags serially into long DNA molecules for lump sum
sequencing. It can be applied to the studies exploring virtually any kinds of biological phenomena in
which the changes in cellular transcription are responsible. SAGE is based mainly on three principles,
firstly, a short sequence tags, 10 to 15 base pairs contains sufficient information to uniquely identify a
transcript provided that the tag is obtained from a unique position within each transcript to allow the
efficient sequencing analysis. Secondly

Jacob Stevens Essay
Jacob Stevens was a typical tall and muscular 18 year old student who seemed frightening for your
first impression, but actually is warm hearted and sweet. Coming from a poor background, his family
did not have enough money to buy him toys or games. So instead, he went out with his friends, and
this is how he developed his love for baseball.
One day while out playing with his friends in the field, a scout who had been passing by offered him a
scholarship to Boston College. As the first in his family to get a post secondary education, his family
was very proud of him because after all his hard work he has put into sports, it finally paid off. This
scholarship changed Jacob s life since he had to leave his friends and family behind. Jacob was ...

Jacob calmly says that Living on my own was really hard since there was no one there to help me.
During my freshman year of college I remembered the time that I almost burned down the house
forgetting the stove was on in the morning since there was no one around to remind me. This disaster
helped Jacob learn to be aware of his surroundings. Another disaster that leads Jacob, to whom he is
today was that he stopped his friend, Pete from doing harmful drugs that would lead to suicide. One
day Jacob was coming back from his classes and he noticed Pete passed out on the couch next to a
table that had a syringe that suggested Pete was doing drugs, Jacob called the ambulance and soon as
he could and they arrived just in time to save Pete, he then spoke to Pete about it afterwards and
convinced Pete to get help.
When he was asked what was his favorite feature about college was, Jacob answered being able to
make his own timetable. Being able to make his own timetable allowed Jacob to hang out with his
friends, sleep late, and most importantly being able to stop his habit of procrastinating. In high school
Jacob would always do homework the morning the paper was due and never ever study. Jacob was

  • 2. Imperialism In Africa Imperialism was a time of new inventions, technology, and many other things. Imperialism had many positive things like, transportation, spread of technology, and an increase in education. Because of Imperialism transportation became a thing. Also communication with other foreign countries became a thing. Then there was an increase in education too. Without imperialism transportation would not be a thing. One example is railroads, railroads are used for transporting people to and from their destinations. Another example are steamboats, without steamboats people would never be able to transport their goods to and from. People will say but slaves made these railroads. Well without transportation everyone would have to walk to every single place we wanted to go. Because of imperialism spread of languages around the world started to happen. An example of this is that now tribes can communicate with other foreign countries, this is good because now we can understand tribes and what they are trying to say to us. Also other foreign countries can communicate with each other, like africans can now learn and speak english because a lot of Africa s land in taken over by great britain. • 3. Gilded Age Hero The world is constantly evolving. Time periods come and go, but certain ones stay with us and are remembered greatly. Of such, the Gilded Age is one of those few that made a very large impact on our world today. The Gilded Age is the period in American history from around 1870 1900 s where the United States population and economy grew quickly in a short amount of time causing extensive amounts of slave work and wealthy individuals to live pretentious lifestyles. During this period, John D. Rockefeller, The founder of the Standard Oil Company, became one of the world s well known wealthiest individuals and a major philanthropist. Rockefeller was in fact a villain, he is also thought of as a hero to the Gilded Age because of the few good acts he did. During the Gilded Age, oil was very expensive and difficult to acquire.Overall, only the wealthy and well privileged had much access to it, but Standard Oil developed the world s largest oil refineries and drove down the cost of refining oil, (World Book, Rockefeller). With Rockefeller as the head of the company, he was able to expand access of oil to those who didn t have as much money and produce large amounts of oil for little cost. With his new ideas and methods, he was able to cut down oil cost and produce more of it more efficiently and quicker than that of the past. Due to becoming one of the wealthiest individuals in the United States, Rockefeller had a substantial amount of money and He gave away about $540 million during his lifetime. He gave most of his money to the public through foundations he established himself and through other organizations, (World Book, Rockefeller). These other foundations, which were mainly universities, highly profited and grew off of these generous donations from Rockefeller. They are still functioning today and Rockefellers impact on them has never been forgotten. As a result, John D. Rockefeller was thought of to be a hero rather than a villain. Besides all this good he may have done, his selfish acts can t go unseen and unnoticed from his action. John D Rockefeller lived a higher, better life than almost every American during this time age. He also obtained an extravagant amount of power through his work and company. His good deeds were overruled by his many bad deeds therefore making him a villain rather than a hero. ... • 4. The Oligarch s Idea Of Athenian Democracy On the first meeting of the Assembly at the Pnyx, Thearion, the celebrity baker who intriguingly bakes his loaves of bread into the shape of animals, served as herald and sacrificed a boar to the Goddess Demeter, hoping she would bless the day and allow for the rebuild and healing of Athens to decisively begin. However, it seems Demeter was not immediately impressed with the offering, as shortly thereafter a rain quall blew in from the Saronic Gulf and brought upon a deluge that dismayed hundreds of Athenians attending the Assembly and innervated their sense to flee the area. However, given that an acceptable substitute for gasoline does not exist, consumers are unable to cutback on the amount of gasoline being consumed. The article suggests that some reasons for consumers inability or unwillingness to cutback on the consumption of gasoline are long commutes, the use of vehicles which are not fuel efficient and a lack of alternative solutions such as carpooling and public transit options. The law of supply also suggests that if a firm cuts back on the amount of a good being supplied, the cost of cutting back outweighs the cost of continuing the supply. The Law of Demand The examination of the correlation between the price of a good and the law of demand is necessary to predict how market forces react to a reduced supply of goods. Dictionary.com defines price as the sum or amount of money or its equivalent for which anything is bought, sold, or offered for sale. (para. 2) Price is an essential ingredient of the law of demand. The law of demand is quantity demanded decreases as price increases, all other things being constant (Colander, 2004, p. 188) The substitution of alternate goods accounts for the law of demand. In The Creation Cycle the Aztecs did not have original myths to support their evolution. The Aztecs would conform and adapt others myths and incorporate them into their own culture and add to them. In both myths it is discussed how gods are more like human beings and held accountable for their behavior. They also both discuss the evolution through the times as humans and gods progress into what is mankind today. The Norse gods and people believe that they first evolved from the remains of the giant Ymir. In the beginning, nothing existed but Ginnungagap, an open void ( The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe 461). Ymir evolved from the ice that had melted from the foam that had frozen earlier in time. Ymir was thought to be evil and kept producing offspring from the sweat of his underarms. The God Buri came to existence by Audhumla licking a salty block of ice and he emerged ( The Creation, Death, and Rebirth of the Universe 461). • 14. The Purpose Of The Kaufman Speech To Language Protocol The Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol targets the production of specific phonemes, then builds on these skills to elicit word level productions and eventually conversational speech. In addition, SLPs utilize phonological processes to help the child produce target words. For example, if the target word is bubble, but the child is unable to spontaneously produce the word, the SLP can instruct the child to say /bub/, deleting the final consonant /l/ for easier production. As the child progresses, the phonological processes are faded and whole words are produced. Consequently, speech intelligibility is improved. 4. Describe the purpose of the approach. The purpose of the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K SLP) is to shape the child s current level of speech production into higher levels of motor speech coordination. Essentially, this therapy technique aims to isolate speech components and increase motor skills at a reasonable pace. When simpler oral motor movements have been mastered, children s therapy focus will shift to higher level speech motor movements, along with correct use of morphology and syntax. It is a treatment approach for children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), other speech sound disorders, and expressive language challenges. With this technique, speech is broken down into syllable patterns, vowels, and consonants. For instance, if a child struggles with the consonant /p/, then therapy sessions would focus on that concept solely. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Assess The Role Of Tattooing In Non-Western Culture The art of tattooing has been around for centuries, with origins dating back before the year 325, when it was banned by the Roman Empire and made its return once again around the 18th century via British explorers returning from Polynesia. Tattooing practices vary around the world, specifically in their meaning and significance cross culturally. For instance, tattooing practices and significance in Western cultures vary significantly than in non Western cultures. Specifically, in traditional cultures, tattooing often marks a crucial period or a rite of passage in an individual s life, such as the transition from childhood into adulthood. Haviland, Kilmurray, Fedorak, Lee (2013) note one of the most intricate forms [of tattooing] is found among the New Zealand Maori, whose moko, facial swirls, are chiselled into the face as a sign of cultural pride (p. 319). Maori tattoos, known to the Maori people as moko, is a pre twentieth century tattooing practice where the tattoo marks both the division and the link between the body and Maori spirituality (Pritchard, 2000, 2001). Lévi Strauss (1963) notes that the Maori believed the body to be a surface meant to be imprinted by culture, noting the purpose of Maori tattooings is not only to imprint a drawing onto the flesh but also to stamp onto the mind all the traditions and philosophy of the group (p. 257). In essence, the Maori people believed that an individual s life force is displayed by their tattoos. For instance, Shand notes: For Maori ... [the] embracing sense of culture is guided by the concepts of mauri [life force] and wairoa [spirit] which together inform all meaningful forms or human occupation art and design (as cited in Pritchard, 2000, p. 345). • 21. Character Analysis Of Neighbor Rosicky By Willa Cather In the short story Neighbor Rosicky by Willa Cather, the protagonist is, in fact, the neighbor Rosicky. The story follows him, his family, and his memories with him in the middle of it all because of his heart condition which initially leads to his death in the end by a heart attack. I would describe Rosicky as such a kindhearted, sweet, loving individual whose intentions rely on the happiness of others around him and a person I wanted to see live. Throughout his whole life, all he did was give and give to friends, family, and strangers, and made him known as that person. I would give Mr. Rosicky the characteristics of being calm as the first. I was very sad when Rosicky had a heart attack even though I knew it was coming but the most heart touching part was when Polly finally called him Father for the first time. With this story, Cather addresses the loss of a good friend/family member and shows how even if a person is extremely kind and giving, that doesn t stop death but it will leave behind a good legacy. I think what the author was trying to give off in this story was to live a positive and happy life like Rosicky did and no matter what situation you were in at first, things will change for the better like when he left London for New York. Salvation And Redemption In The Scarlet Letter In The Scarlet Letter, author Nathanial Hawthorne utilizes an intricate combination of history and fiction, to depict the events that occurred in seventeenth century Massachusetts Bay Colony. During this period of time, the Anglican Church of England had an altercation with the other religious sects, so they decided to flee to the Boston Colony, in an effort to establish religious freedom. The Puritans were immensely religious, and lived by a stringent code of ethics. In addition, their relationship with God was based upon theocracy, predestination, the Bible, and sin. In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne incorporates the Puritans strict code into a fictional story, detailing the trials and tribulations of a Puritan woman named Hester Prynne. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Redemption is a fundamental component of the Puritan Ethic. The Puritans strongly believed in the words and beliefs of God, and ensured that all Puritan beliefs reflected God s sovereignty. Opposed to the Catholic belief that priests presided over the congregation as holier than the rest , Puritans followed the Old Testament and its teachings of salvation. They believed that God would choose who was worthy of salvation, which is a clear example of predestination. Thus, those who did not adhere to these principles were condemned (The Puritan Beliefs). Throughout the story, several main characters are trying to achieve salvation in the eyes of God. Reverend Dimmesdale declares his sins on the scaffold several times, Hester Prynne confesses to her wrongdoings, and Roger Chillingworth exemplifies the search for salvation through guilt. Furthermore, during this time period, women were looked upon as inferior. As a result, their punishments would be more severe than men, making salvation virtually unattainable for Hester (Richardson). • 27. Assignment 1 Nt13p 9. 1 9.1 DHCP SNOOPING What Is DHCP? Hosts communicate with each other through addressing in a network. At first devices used to be assigned unique static IP addresses. But, this system could not be scaled up when mobile devices became more common. Modifying each device s address, such as that of a mobile phone or laptop, each time it moved from one location to another became very complex. To resolve this issue, dynamic address configuration was developed, and soon became the standard addressing system for most networks around the world. All kinds of networks, from coffee shops to corporate networks, use the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to connect a multitude of devices to the internal networks as well as the Internet. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When DHCP snooping is enabled, a database called the DHCP snooping table or binding table is created. This database stores the lease information from the switching device. This includes the IP MAC address binding, the lease time for the IP address, the type of binding, VLAN name, and interface for each host. The entries in the binding table are updated when significant changes occur in the network. For example, when a client sends a DHCPRELEASE message to release an IP address, the corresponding entry in the table is deleted. The entry associated with a device is also deleted if the timeout value or lease time of the IP address assigned by the DHCP server expires. However, if you move a network device from one VLAN to another, the device acquires a new IP address. In this case, the corresponding entry, including its VLAN ID, is updated in the table. DHCP Snooping Process Here s what happens when DHCP snooping is enabled on a switching device: A network host requests for an IP address by sending a DHCPDISCOVER packet to the switching device. The switching device sends the packet to the DHCP server. The server in turn offers the host an IP address by returning a DHCPOFFER packet to the switching device. The switching device confirms that the offer is from a trusted interface, and sends the packet to the host. The host then accepts the address through a DHCPREQUEST packet. The switching device adds a placeholder entry for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Heart Of Darkness And Heart Of Darkness Joseph Conrad s book, Heart of Darkness, Francis Coppola s film, Apocalypse Now, and Werner Herzog s film, Aguirre Wrath of God are very interesting productions, each with their own unique point of view and illuminating agenda. The book in itself and the films prove to be an excellent source about violence brought on by imperialism and/or colonialism and how, as a consequence, the definition of civilized and savage becomes blurred. Via the films, The audience can derive a lot of pleasure not only from listening to melodies and rhythms that create moods and heighten emotions provoked by the story, but also from analysing the ways the music reinforces the symbolic richness of the literary work, establishes new relationships between its elements, sheds a new light on its meanings and multiplies its interpretative perspectives (Marciniak 67). Having said this, that is not to say that Heart of Darkness lacked in keeping my attention. I very much enjoyed the internal and external dialogue that Conrad provides along with his descriptive commentary about the events at hand. Although the films are considered adaptations of Conrad s book, they both have distinctive ways of getting the same concepts across to an audience. All in all, after reading and viewing these constructions it is clear that every individual is able to create their own outlook on how they prefer to view the delineations of what it takes to be considered civilized or savage; of course, through the mediums ... Also, only state governments could act directly on the people. The states were sovereign, and there was no independent executive. Hemingway uses this metaphor to parallel our perception of Nick himself. The trauma Nick has endured throughout his life has impacted him as well as his identity significantly, but there is hope and the promise of a better future if he is willing to withstand the burden in the meantime. This sentiment is echoed by Nick when he lets go of the grasshopper, instructing it to fly away somewhere (212). The rewards that follow in the wake of a negative or traumatic event are earned by the mere fact that an individual was not willing to be swayed from their path or to give up simply on the basis that it was difficult. Nick himself sums it up rather nicely when he states that he s ...got a right to eat this kind of stuff, if [he s] willing to carry it (215) referring to, of course, his backpack full of food and supplies that he d been shouldering for ... • 40. Mckean Graphic Novels In this report I shall be discussing the historical context of the development of graphic novels that changed in the last three decades. The visual language has shifted art styles and developed different opinions on what are proper storytelling and a comic. I shall be analysing what is the visual language for graphic novels. After analysing the visual language I shall be comparing to an illustrator and artist, Dave McKean. He is a personal interest that has influenced my art style for two years in generating Gothic, dark toned imagery. McKean has developed a unique visual language towards comic and graphic novels, questioning if we could further beyond the usual similarity. What is his point of comics and the visual language? He provided illustrations for several novels working with different authors, but I ll be exploring his work with his collaborator Neil Gaiman. This partnership sold many books due to the visual language representation Dave McKean s illustrations he has provided. I shall be exploring if they affected the modern graphic novel genre, and what makes this collaborator different from other authors Dave McKean worked with? ... The first published graphic novel was A contract with God by Red Tide and Will Eisner in 1987 (Getting Graphic). Then it follows of Art Spiegelman s graphic novel, Gene Luen s American Born Chinese . The graphic novels expanded towards many themes such as fiction, nonfiction, historical, true crime, science, memoirs, coming of age, topics for students to learn, social issues, language art and biographies. • 41. The Tax Reform Act Of 1986 More than 25 years ago, there was a major overhaul of the U.S. corporate tax system. The Tax Reform Act of 1986 reduced a corporate tax rate from 46 percent to 34 (Gross Schadewald, 2012, p. 40). The federal budget deficit forced the government to lower the corporate tax rate. The level of corporate tax rate in the USA was lower than it was in Canada, Germany, and France. The tax rate for corporations remained unchanged until 2011. In 2011, fiscal barriers led to changes of the tax reform. Today, the reform package includes the exclusion of deductions and credits, and tax rate reduction. However, the net effect of those components may boost the tax liability of domestic companies. The most recent economic crisis influenced the changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The value of study cannot be overemphasized since the federal tax reform is a driving factor of success of U.S. companies within country borders and in the global market. Literature Review The main objective of many companies is to minimize their tax obligations. Jeffers (2014) discussed the reason of why companies adopt tax inversion strategies. The researcher indicated that the income maximization is a major reason of companies attempting to reduce their tax liability (pp. 100 101). Tax inversion strategies provide companies an advantage to lower income tax rate. Today, U.S. corporations renounce its U.S. citizenship and move to low tax countries. Companies that reincorporate oversees are not obligated to pay U.S. taxes on earning income (p. 99). Many countries implement tax competition strategies to attract and retain businesses. Well known companies, such as Exxon Mobil, Hewlett Packard, Tyco, General Electric, PepsiCo, etc. take benefits of tax shelter opportunities overseas (p. 102). Other benefits of the jurisdiction abroad are flexible banking laws and simplified litigation processes. Bull, Dowd, and Moomau (2011) analyzed the macroeconomic perspectives of corporate tax reform. The researchers indicated that it is important to consider changes in tax treatment reduce a current rate from 35 percent to 30, and eliminate various loopholes in the ... • 42. Personal Response To Tikkun Olam As I write this, it is Rosh Hashanah, the first day of the Jewish year 5778. For the next ten days, Jews will be introspective, and look critically at ourselves hoping to improve ourselves. Jews believe in the concept of Tikkun Olam, which translates loosely to repairing the world; we believe humans have an obligation outside of ourselves, to the planet and to other people. As my Rabbi sermonized, there are people suffering across the globe, and whatever we can do, we must do, to alleviate suffering. However, this idea is not only a religious one for me. My family worked for civil rights during the turbulent 1960s. My parents worked with the Fair Housing Council of Los Angeles to desegregate our white neighborhood. And, after the city of Watts was decimated by riots in 1965, my parents volunteered at, and my sisters and I attended, a Head Start program there. This was a literacy pre school program, free for any child, which was largely populated by minorities, and my parents felt there should be Caucasian representation as well. So, partly because of my religious beliefs and partly because of my political ones, I believe it is of importance to the moral, ... Beyond humanitarian aid, there is a more complex interpretation of what U.S. foreign aid is and what it does both for the recipient country and America. For example, building democratic governments in other countries is one strategy for fighting terrorism. The United States has long had the reputation of using its military forces for good, such as during World War II when American soldiers helped to defeat Hitler s Nazism. When dealing with a repressive regime which does not want to engage in democracy military force may be necessary. It s for the same reasoning that if someone were to ask why a car enthusiast owns five vehicle, he would say the reasons go beyond the car itself. A heart felt passion for the lion s roar of the engine and the fact the upscale luxury cars are an artful masterpiece on rolling wheels. Such priorities encapsulate the one percent, and they purchase outrageously cool cars for their swagger and flamboyance over efficiency and practicality. Here s a collection of some of the best road legal cars, but for the purpose of clarity, the classic muscle cars sold at auction have slipped past this list. ( removed HTML ) Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita $4.8 Million ( removed HTML ) The world s most expensive street legal car in production today, Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita costs such an extravagant amount of dollars because the Swedish manufacturer literally coated it in diamonds, making it one of the world s rarest supercars. The exterior finish technique could be called the Koenigsegg Proprietary Diamond Weave. With that said, a touch up paint job probably costs an unfathomable amount of dollars. Open the hood, and the V8 engine produces 1,004 horsepower with 797 lbs ft of torque. Not only is the Koenigsegg CCXR a work of art on wheels, put the pedal to the metal and the driver will zip down the highway from zero to 60 in under 2.9 seconds, and the speeds reach in excess of 250 mph. • 44. `` Cows, Pigs, Wars, And Witches By Marvin Harris Cows, Pigs, Wars, and Witches by Marvin Harris divulges into some difference and components of culture around the world. He answers question as to why individuals perform and act the way they do in relation to culture. He looks at sexual hierarchies among Yanomamo culture as well as the Hindu s respect for cows in India. The Savage male chapter of the book attempts to explain human sexual hierarchies. There are two are categorical areas that divide the theories; unmodifiable instincts and adaptiveness of lifestyles. Harris expectation if sexual hierarchies were only decided by anatomy and cultural capacities are that women would be the dominant gender because women are able to give birth. There is an expectation they would modified or remove forces that may be harmful to them, and that the populations of males would be smaller and feel more gratitude to the women. Their communities would consist of polyandry. The men would desire sexual favor from the women and be inferior of the women. Friedrich Engels believes that at one time this type of system did occur but the men decided to band together and over through the women. Harris doesn t believe this has actually occurred because there are no examples throughout society. The closest representation of this idea is present through 10 to 15 percent of the societies across the world participating in matrilineality. Although these societies showcase matrilineality the women are not in control of the family affairs, a male from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Importance Of Becoming A Professional Baseball Player I have learned that if you get knocked down you always find a way to get back up I started baseball when I was about six years old. I loved the game. I also remember telling my dad when I grow up I m going to be a professional baseball player. He always responded with it takes a lot to become a good baseball player but it takes even more to understand the game. Almost every day after school I would sprint up the hill next to our house and plow through the door then beg my dad to play baseball with me. We would be in the back yard for hours upon hours throwing and catching. We would play whiffle ball for about an hour and then as soon as my dad hit a home run I would get really angry with my dad, the reason for this is because I have always ... Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) versus Serial Analysis of Gene Expression (SAGE) INTRODUCTION Expressed sequence tag or also known as EST are 200 to 800 unedited nucleotide bases in length, and randomly selected single pass sequence reads which are derived from the cDNA libraries while serial analysis of gene expression or SAGE have more shorter sequence tags with only 10 to 20 base pairs. But even it is short it still have enough information to uniquely identify a transcript, especially if it is obtained from a unique position in each of the transcripts. Serial analysis of gene expression is a method or technique designed to gain a direct and quantitative measure of overall gene expression pattern. It is basically a sequence based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ETS also can determine definitively the number of copies of each transcript per cell and highlight any differential gene expression. EST includes an inefficient sequencing step, in which one sequencing process yields only one cDNA sequence. Although the more recent methods of hybridization based analyses (DNA microarray) using immobilized cDNAs (Schena et al., 1995) or oligonucleotides (Lockhart et al., 1996) can potentially examine the expression patterns of a relatively large number of genes, the method can only examine expressed sequences that have already been identified. In contrast, the SAGE method allows for a quantitative and simultaneous analysis of a large number of transcripts in any particular cells or tissues, without prior knowledge of the genes (Velculescu et al., 1995). METHODOLOGY The SAGE method is based on the isolation of unique sequence tags from individual mRNAs and concatenation of tags serially into long DNA molecules for lump sum sequencing. It can be applied to the studies exploring virtually any kinds of biological phenomena in which the changes in cellular transcription are responsible. SAGE is based mainly on three principles, firstly, a short sequence tags, 10 to 15 base pairs contains sufficient information to uniquely identify a transcript provided that the tag is obtained from a unique position within each transcript to allow the efficient sequencing analysis.
