Wilson Vs Macomber Essay
In Ernest Hemingway s short story, The Short, Happy life of Francis Macomber, Hemingway uses
the writer s craft of perspective to develop the characterization of the three protagonists. Wilson,
Margaret, and Macomber s characterization develops through multiple perspectives and techniques
that help to create a consistently negative tone. Through reading this story, readers can better
understand how to view other people s actions and their own.
In Hemingway s short story, it is evident to readers that Wilson, despite being a professional
hunter, is self centered, refuses to take responsibility for his actions, and is unethical. Wilson s self
centered, apathetic regard for the Macombers marital issues is shown through how willing he is to

In Wilson s internal dialogue, readers can also see that though he tends to judge others, he rarely
criticizes his own actions. Near the ending of the book, readers can see the way Wilson views
his behaviors, and just how skewed his morals really are. Wilson s unethical nature is
exemplified through his acceptance and normalization of sleeping with married women. On
page nineteen, the text states that, He, Robert Wilson, carried a double size cot on safari to
accommodate any windfalls he might receive. This description of Wilson allows the reader to
understand just how selfish and immoral Wilson is. Not only does he commit shameful acts and
justify himself, but he does it on a regular basis and with a lot of people.Though he admits to
despising many of these people, as long as they will pay him well enough, he is willing to do
anything. Truly, Wilson, despite lowering himself to such pitiful standards, still views himself as
superior to everyone else. Despite Wilson s professionalism as a hunter, through analyzing
Hemingway s description of Wilson and Wilson s internal dialogue, readers can see that his ethics
are very unprofessional. Readers can then better understand Wilson s

World War 2 Dbq Analysis
During World War 2, the Treaty of Versailles was unfair to the axis powers. Inflation and war
debt just made things worse. The German population wanted a leader who could save them
from this misery, so they chose Hitler and that s how Germany became powerful after its fall,
and how Hitler began his control over Europe. Appeasement is to make someone less angry by
agreeing to their demands. Collective security is the cooperation of several countries in an
alliance to strengthen the security of each. The war was brought and the best response to
aggression was collective security. In 1939, there was a Second World War. The Munich
Agreement caused many disagreements between countries. It was performed so that it would
satisfy Hitler s passion, and soon bring security for Europe. However, all of that was unnecessary
and Hitler kept moving forward (Doc 7). In (Document 3), Hitler promised to end the Treaty of
Versailles. He also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Document 7, George F. Kennan also disagreed with the agreement at the Munich conference
because he thought that Chamberlain and Daladier were performing a desperate act of
appeasement at the cost of Czechoslovak state , because they wanted to avoid war and secure
peace for Europe s future. Germans were the only ones who could take him out of power (Doc 8).
A.J.P Taylor also stated that the appeasers feared that the defeat of Germany would follow up with

The Horrors Of The War II
Until The EndEven in our darkest hour, never despair, the light will come sooner than expected.
It was December 23rd , 1943, and there they were, sitting in a ghost town that was once the fine
city of Rostock. The soldiers were waiting patiently in the bombed out, abandoned airplane
factory that still looked like a war zone. The area was littered with skeletons of World War II jets
and engines that once fueled Hitler s Wehrmacht and mighty blitzkriegs that helped him conquer
most of Europe in its hey day. Hitler s army went through Europe decimating buildings and
works of art that had great historical value. The Nazi soldiers gave no thought to what they were
doing, but only wishing to please the Furor. The bones of these mighty planes looked as
sorrowful as the men were now feeling. The putrid smell of dead bodies and spent casings hung
heavy in their nostrils. The entire company was chilled to the bone by the hard sleet and snow that
had been pelting them relentlessly for the past15 hours. They were in the northeastern corner of
Germany, nestled between the mighty Warnow River and the harsh Baltic Sea in a city that once
was bustling and thriving before the allies invaded through Demark and Sweden and the red
Russians barreled through Poland. The men were glad it was almost empty, lending a sense of
peaceful serenity that almost had a way of making them feel safe. It was so quiet; almost too quiet.

There is a standard 8 by 8 checkerboard made up of 64 squares. These squares can be made of
other squares within the checkerboard. How many squares of various sizes are there? Also,
how many squares can be in any sized checkerboard (e.g. 9 by 9 checkerboard). There are many
steps to figure out the problem. First, I figured out how many squares there were in the
checkerboard squares which was 64.(Green should explain how you got 64.) To find 64 I simply
looked at the top of the square and added the squares up to get 8, and I did the same exact thing to
the side of the square and got 8 then I multiplied them to get 64 squares.. Then, I counted the
squares along the side and the top and bottom to find one size.(Did you use paperrater.com? You

Fields SNC was confident while presenting the brief. He did not provide the purpose during the
Orientation, the Enemy statement was simply a repeat of what was given by the evaluator, and
there was no in order to for the Mission. The SOM briefed was too vague with no executable
instructions provided, and SNC failed to provide any Tasks. During the execution, SNC placed
himself in an appropriate location where his FT could hear him and he would be able to assist as
necessary; however, he was timid with little confidence or command presence. Instead of ordering
his FT members to complete tasks he asked them if they were comfortable doing those things.
Because of this, SNC did employ his FT members well and when they were able to successfully
complete a task SNC was unsure how to continue on. This indicated that SNC was... Show more

execution began, SNC placed himself where he could best be seen and heard by his FT. SNC
does not yet possess a solid understanding of how best to employ his subordinates. When one of
his FT members made it to the far side of the obstacle, SNC realized there was no logical reason
for having sent him over there so he told him to touch the red and take the penalty. He only did
this to get his FT member off the obstacle quicker instead of maneuvering back to the beginning.
SNC acted too hastily when he realized time was short. He attempted to maneuver the obstacle on

cables were. His FT lost confidence in him as they were just standing off to the side watching him

Essay about Napoleon
During rough times in France in the late 1700 amp;#8217;s, an anarchy was being formed. A
revolution turned into civil war and the people were unhappy and needed a leader. At this time,
General Napoleon Bonaparte took an opportunity. Napoleon amp;#8217;s fame for winning battles
in the Middle East and Egypt and crushing royalist uprisings back at home allowed him to take
over the Directorywith ease. Recognized for his great military skills and outstanding leadership,
Napoleon easily won over the hearts of the people. Napoleon amp;#8217;s first move was to
obtain leadership. With the help of Pope Pius VII Napoleon was named First Consul of France.

Though many accomplishments were shown in government as well as religion, Napoleon
amp;#8217;s main interests were focused on building an empire. After defeating Italy and Austria,
and persuading Russia to withdraw from the war, Napoleon named himself Emperor.
Though Napoleon was very successful on land and in battles, he also had many unsuccessful
attempts. Napoleon amp;#8217;s rage against Britain remained unsuccessful. He attempted many
tactics against the British army. At the Battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon amp;#8217;s loss was
severe. The unexpected raid of the British admiral Lord Nelson, forced Napoleon to lose. Soon
after this loss, Napoleon attempted to force Economic Blockades on Britain called the Continental
System. He demanded that his conquered countries not trade with Britain, and asked Russia and
Prussia to participate. The British counter to this move was to demand that any ship going to
Europe, was to report in to Great Britain first. After a while, the French Navy was not able to hold
off the British navy and the Continental System failed. The French Economy soon worsened and
Napoleon continued to expand his empire.
Napoleon then made many more moves stirring up more trouble. He named his brothers kings in
conquered countries, and removed the Holy Roman Empire, setting up the Confederation of the
Rhine. This angered the Prussians, causing them to declare war. The Prussian uprisings were easily
conquered by the French. As Napoleon conquered

Theology in the Chronicles of Narnia the Lion the Witch...

POSADAS, Klarizze
FINAL PROJECT: The Chronicles of Narnia
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is the first book in the
Chronicles of Narnia series written by CS Lewis. The book series was such a great success that
in 2008, the first book was turned into a film. What many people may not realize is that CS
Lewis wrote the book series with a specific goal in mind: to showcase the word of God to different
parts of the world through an artistic lens.
This paper will focus on the theological nature of CS Lewis book based film, The Chronicles of

Lastly, the four children (Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Suzan) are human beings. They represent four
different kinds of people who have different encounters with God. For Peter, he is the skeptical
type of Christian. One who is doubtful by how God can use him to help build God s kingdom, yet
at times he forgets that it is only Christ who can defeat evil and not by his strength alone. Edmund
is the type of Christian who has sinned and fallen short many times along the road before choosing
to love and follow Christ. While Suzan is the type of Christian who has consistently doubted
whether or not Christ, even really exists before fully trusting God with the things that don t seem to
make sense. Lastly, Lucy represents the Christians who just love, follow and dedicate their lives to
Christ without hesitation and without doubt. Lucy s childlikeness showcases how Christians
should love and trust Christ with our lives.
Since the four children can be seen as symbolisms of human beings, their relationship with Aslan
shows a lot about the grace, mercy and overall character of God. One of the main examples
where this is seen is the grace that Aslan showed to Edmund who was a traitor. Despite Edmunds
choice to prioritize Turkish delight over his family and his right as one of the king of Narnia,
Aslan still accepted Edmund into his army and not only that Edmund still inherited the kingdom of
Narnia not by his own works but by Aslan s

Argumentative Analysis
Video games impact the brain in a wide variety of ways. Some people could, and have, made the
argument that video games are destructive for children and that they become a distraction from
actual educational work (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). On the other
hand, one could certainly argue that video games could be a valuable tool in the learning
environment (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). At any rate, there are
several different, and accurate views on the subject.
The initial argument I mentioned about video games is probably the one you hear about most
often. How many times have you heard a set of parents say that their child is rotting away in front
of a video game. Well, there is actually some truth to that. Children who show addictive behavior in
regards to video games have also shown symptoms that are typical in addicts of other sorts
(Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). Some domains that are affected by this
type of behavior include behavioral, social, academic, occupational, and developmental (Bavelier,
Green, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also many studies that show how video games increase peripheral perception,
processing speed, and memory (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011).
Also, depending on the type of video game a particular person is playing, it can be used as an
effective training scenario(Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). The idea
here is that video games can be used as a productive tool for people of all ages, professions, and
lifestyles, if they are utilized correctly (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011).
An issue that may come up is trying to find the happy area in the middle of the people who don t
use games at all and the ones that are using them excessively and becoming

Gun Control Debate Report
In the year of 2015 there were only four events that could be considered mass shootings. In 2014
there were a total of 51,811 gun incidents in the U.S. alone. Big number, right? That s probably
close to the amount of time some people text or say like and totally in a day. But this number
represents anything from gang violence to someone accidentally shooting their foot with a twenty
two. With those numbers we should make it illegal to even think about guns right? Well, if you
think that way, then you d agree that we should ban any form of smoking, alcohol, caffeine and
stress causers. The only reason that you should think the latter if you agree with strict guncontrol is
that heart disease killed 614,348 Americans in 2014. Popular news stations

Why Did Bismarck Use Nationalism Dbq

Nationalism has been used by many leaders to unify their people, but Nationalism is not always

Many leaders have used Nationalism to unify their country or nation, like Otto von Bismarck. Other

Alexander III used Nationalism to divide the people of Russia, even though his intention was to
unify the people. Alexander III came to power after his father, Alexander II, was assassinated.
He quickly came to power and wanted to quickly set reform in Russia, since it is believed that
his father s reforms caused his assassination(Axelrod,1994). When he put his reforms into place,
he developed a concept of extreme Russian nationalism called Russification. He used
Russification to develop a purely Russian nation. Alexander III used Russification to get rid of
any nationality in Russia that is not Russian or any person in Russia that does not support his
reforms. Along with secular reform, religious toleration was sacrificed during this period. Russia
s Jews, perennial targets, were persecuted more harshly than ever, as were Russo Germans, Poles,
and Finns, whose crime was their failure to have been born 100 percent Russian (1994). Alexander
III started to become extremely harsh in getting rid of people that are not purely Russian, even
though they did not have a choice to be 100 percent Russian or not. In doing this, he made Russia a
uniform nation with no diversity, dividing the people who were 100 percent Russian from the
people who are not Russian. By using Russification, Alexander III actually divided the nation of
Russia, even though his intentions

Analysis Of Totality And Infinity By Emmanuel Levinas
One of the greatest scholars of the twentieth century is Emmanuel Levinas, but the convolution of
his thinking prevents his work from spreading quickly. Totality and Infinity, a book on exteriority
is one of his articles that have been liked by many readers in the past and recent times. The writer
demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and how infinite
is an outcome of the correlation of selfto other. The main purpose of Levinas work is to find out the
dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. According to his work, infinite is the
beginning or foundation of ethicsand, he also declines any ethical intellectualism. Levinas
acknowledges the idea that every human being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because sex can mean different things to different people, any phenomenology of sex should
start by tackling on possible foundational aspects of the experience (Levinas, 108). One the key
aspect is the idea that sexual practice consists of the relations that takes place between to
individuals. Naturally, sexual practice does not need the presence of a second party and in many
cases, sexual experience comprises of many individuals. On the other hand, even in a time when
sex occurs solitarily or among people within the same group, the encounter with another
individual can characterize the experience (Levinas, 108). For example individuals who practice
masturbation do that because of remembering the experience he had with a previous partner. In
his work, Levinas tend to argues that a real ethical relationship can only take place in a situation
whereby the self cannot spin the other into an object of comprehension (Levinas, 108). While not
emphasizing broadly on sex and sexuality, the writer in a few words explicated his opinions on
the issue in late part of this book, where he extended his idea of the face to face ethnic encounter to
matter of Eros and productiveness (Levinas, 108).
Encounter with the Other In the book Totality and Infinity, the writer started by illustrating the self
as a naturally egoist way of life (Levinas, 198). He indicated that

Good And Evil In Thomas Malory s Le Morte D Arthur
In the excerpts from Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, King Arthur is a complex character with
both good and poor traits. Arthur maintains his symbolic representation of good throughout the tale,
but Malory crafts Arthur s character in such a way that his weaknesses, or bad traits, shed a rather
mortal light upon his character. These weaknesses, combined with the greatness of Arthur, are
eventually what gives way to the downfall of Arthur. His bad traits reflect much of what we see
in ourselves. Though Arthur is a noble, great, and powerful character, it does not mean that he
may not be a flawed character as well. Arthur, throughout the tales, often falls victim to his own
mortal whims. He is often shortsighted and reckless in his decision making. An example of this
is in Malory s Arthur and Pellinore story from Le Morte d Arthur, Tell me, said Merlin, Do you
prefer the sword or the scabbard? The sword, said Arthur. You are a fool, said Merlin. The scabbard
is worth ten of the sword, because while you wear it, regardless of how seriously you are wounded,
you will lose no blood (2). Through this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His courage and skill is exemplified by this quote from Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, If King Arthur

their cause. Without sting they battled through the burning ships, the screaming wounded, and the
corpses floating on the bloodstained waters. Once ashore, they put Sir Mordred s entire army to
flight (232). The fact that these men s strength and spirit are powered by the belief in King Arthur
as their true king, even though they are outnumbered and more vulnerable, is a great indication of
Arthur s inspiring strength. Arthur is a true, just, and courageous leader. Not only is Arthur
inspiring, but he is also

Forecasting Methods Compare and Contrast
Forecast in a simple terms is a prediction thru a statement or claim that a particular event will occur
in the future. It looks like to me that almost the majority of the people, including children, once in
their life time were a forecasters, as sometimes in their past they?ve tried to predict any future
event. This act of making such prediction is therefore, called forecasting. Forecasts are never
finished, they are needed continuously and as the time passes, their accuracy and their impact on
actual performance are meas So it looks like that forecast in itself, is not too complicated, it
becomes complicated once the word ?good? is attached to it. Thus, the forecast has to be well
thought and planned so it can be called good or adequate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Delta airline is one clear example as it is the latest one to make use of the chapter 11. The
remaining of this paper will be talking about the different forecasting methods used by the airline
industry to make future prediction of passenger demand. The exactness of forecasts is very
critical to the revenue management system as lousy prediction of demand can lead to an
incorrect decision making, which in turn leads to a miserable revenue performance. So the airline
industry, more than any other industry, needs an accurate forecasting not only because of the
September 11 occurrence, but also due to a very high price of crude oil, which tends to increase
the price of kerosene highly used by the industry. One study identified as the Improved Forecast
Accuracy in Airline Revenue Management (2001, Richard Zeni) shows that airlines divide
passengers into two large categories based on their sensitivity to price and travel needs. These
included business passengers and leisure passengers. This study has further shown that business
travelers have a tendency to make their arrangements close to their departure date staying at their
destination for only a short time. However, they did not show much flexibility on their plans at all,
but they were willingly to pay more money for their tickets. On the other hand, exactly the opposite
happened with leisure travelers. They usually booked their flights well ahead of their travel date;
stayed more time

Groundwater pumping has destroyed the water surfaces in the United States. Robert Glennon, the
author of the book, wrote this book in a way that the reader would admire his exhaustive obsession

The book did have a significant affect on me because in the second chapter The Worth Of Water In

Citizenship For Immigrants
Citizenship for immigrants and people of color is like the cheese in the mousetrap. The cheese
represents opportunity, hope, and liberty and the pursuit of happiness according to Thomas
Jefferson. But often times, these populations do not notice the trap. The trap is broken promises,
conditions to citizenship and happiness, working hard and still not achieving. The people soon
realize that they have to work for those opportunities and that even working hard does not guarantee
them. The point of citizenship is for the government to be able to have control on who gets the
opportunities and control the ones by using it as a threat or an incentive.
Even though citizenship is not guaranteed immigrant continue to come to the United States. Know

The Social Aspects Of Gender In No Country For Old Men
What is gender and how is gender determined? Gender is the way humans are categorized into a
culture and is also the key to the entrance of a society. The two common genders that are
recognizable throughout every culture across the world are male and female. Commonly,
gender is decided quickly after birth, or sometimes even before birth, by using the parts of one s
anatomy to categorize the new born. What the new born doesn t know is that once they grow
up, they will have to abide by a set of rules to stay in their gender grouping, male or female. All
too commonly, though, it can be seen that once the males grow up, they gain a sense of power,
this power being one that shadows the females and leaves the females empty handed compared to
the males, the so called superior breed. The film No Country for Old Menby Ethan Coen and Joel
Coen illustrates that men are dominant over men, but most importantly, men are dominant over
women, which parallels with Aaron H. Devor s essay, Becoming Members of Society: Learning
the Social Meanings of Gender . Furthermore, the film presents the idea that when males are given
too much power, they turn into a feared monster that is a desired, which is fulfilled by fear and
attraction.
One specific scene from No Country for Old Men illustrates the domination of men over women in
the patriarchy system through the use of dialogue, and the tone the actors use to convey the
dialogue. Carla Jean Moss, the widow of Llewelyn Moss, walks into her bedroom

In the essay,ВЁI ve got a few pet peeves about sea creaturesВЁ, written by Dave Barry, he

Implementing The Universal Protocol Procedure
In 2003, as an outcome of all the sentinel events reported to the Joint commission lead to the
creation of the The Universal protocol for preventing wrong site, wrong procedures, and wrong
person surgery (Mulloy Hughes 2008). So, one of the ways that could have potentially prevented
the situation from happening at the first place was implementing the universal protocol
procedure. According to the protocol the conduction of proper pre as well as post operating
procedures are extremely mandatory. Therefore, by enforcing a standardized routine pre operating
procedure such as verifying the patient as well as the correct site for the procedure, by having the
medical staff or preferably the physician marking the operating site with his or her initials before
the surgery will be an effective preventive measure (Mulloy Hughes 2008). Also, by properly
conducting a time out session where the patient is provided with a standardized briefing prior to the
patient is sedated in the OR could also eliminate some the sentinel or adverse events in the OR.
Furthermore, follow a checklist, which not only pertains to the surgery itself, but also focuses on
the other procedures involved such as admissions, anesthesia equipment, and discharge (Mulloy
Hughes 2008). Using Technology to Improve Patient Safety Another effective measure that could
have potentially helped to avoid the situation at the first place was implementation of technology

This couple dancing is the representation of romantic love, but they have certain fears of this
approach because they are afraid of being watched and judged. We heard voices, rumble. There is a
world outside this intimacy.
The video begins with an extreme close up of the skin, by the hedgehogs, sweat on the skin and
whispers in different languages. The bodies touch, male bodies, male voices. A dance, an intimate
encounter. Love is the same in any language. The next shot is more open, we can see more about
these bodies, we can see their faces. Two men dancing, a kind of tango. The music that packs them
in this dance begins (Saint Pierre the name of the Song). You still cannot see where they are. The
next shots will be wider and always the same choreography packed by the same song. In the fourth
short appears another figure, a woman, red wings and a wreath on the head. The woman dances
around them, she tries shyly to enter the dance but she keeps a certain distance from them. She
dances probes the two men. The woman is the angle in the Tarot card, the lovers. She blesses the
union between these two men. The sexual energy that emanates from this dance is transforming.

Ethnic Conflict in the United States
Ethnic Conflict in the United States
The United States is considered a melting pot because of the vast array of different cultures,
ethnicities, and religious groups who all live within its borders. Other countries with fewer cultural
differences have been torn apart by the conflicts that arise between these differing groups. It is
believed by some that the United States has been able to avoid such ethical conflicts as have
brought down other nations but looking at American history it is evident that this is not true.
America s history is one of ethnic conflict because of religion, nationalistic, and particularly ethnic
differences. The two centuries that the United States has existed has been a history of racial
marginalization particularly against African Americans which culminated with the Civil Rights
Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. In the present, the United States likes to claim that as a nation,
we are color blind but evidence exists to the contrary. The Klu Klux Klan (KKK) still exists, hate
crimes are committed based on ethnicity, and stereotypes are perpetuated in order to minimize and
ostracize. Despite these instances, the country has held strong largely because although these
instances occur, they are not approved of by the government or those involved in criminal justice.
The United States is made up of peoples from all over the world but that does not mean we have
not had to deal with ethnic conflict. The most obvious has been the history of

can be increased if technology is implemented correctly. Ehrlich, Sporte, and Sebring (2013)
reported the differences in technology use in districts in Chicago. The study found that 92 percent
of students have access to the internet and technology at home. However, the frequency of use

technology at school never or rarely. An inequality of technology exists between schools and
schools that use technology. Schools that frequently use technology have higher achieving students.
Enrich et al., (2010) stated, Technology use is ubiquitous in America s colleges and most

African Americans first arrived to the United States as a crew on a pirate ship in the year 1619

immigrants as an opportunity and captured many of the six million African immigrants and sold

Alcohol is also problematic for the African American population. Alcohol is one of the most
significant problems among African Americans and leads to more violence, abuse, isolation and
social consequences among black women when compared to white women (Donatelle, 2003).
African Americans tend to have more of an alcohol problem as a population whole compared to
whites but tend to consume less alcohol overall (Donatelle, 2004). Excessive, long term alcohol
intake can lead to enhanced risk of developing cancer, a damaged central nervous system and
harmful effects to the cardiovascular system (Donatelle, 2004). Since African Americans are
already at more risk for developing cancer and cardiovascular disease, alcohol would enhance the
risk of developing these disease and thus would reduce their overall health. Another health issue
that African Americans struggle with is diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that involves the body
producing high levels of blood glucose levels (Powers, Dodd Noland, 2006). There are two types
of diabetes; type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is known as the juvenile onset diabetes and caused by a
lack of insulin production and secretion while type 2 is characterized by deficiency of insulin

Symbolism In Fahrenheit 451
When Ray Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451, he allegedly chose the title for the temperature that
book paper catches fire. The idea was that the firemen use flamethrowers to burn books, and the
fire needed to be at least 451 degrees Fahrenheit to properly burn the paper. Right off the bat, the
number 451, in Fahrenheit 451, is stated on the first page of the book. It also symbolizes the
burning and failing of Montag s society. Essentially, it s the temperature at which society burns.
This symbol is the most significant one since it is in the title of the book and is stated directly
on the first page. The second symbol we come across in the story is the hearth and the
salamander. Both the hearth and the salamander symbolize fire. A hearth is the area around a
fireplace, it is usually used as a symbol of someone s home. A salamander is known to be able to
endure or live in fire and not be harmed by it. We see salamander in the story as one of Montag s
tattoos and the name of his firetruck. Montag does not live unharmed by fire as he realizes how
burning books has ruined his society and that his society has ruined his home (hearth) as shown
by Mildred s dependence on TV and not communicating with Montag like a normal couple. Later
in the book we are shown that the salamander is one of the official symbols of the firemen. Sieve
and the sand. This is the title of the second section in the book. The sieve represents the human
mind looking for a truth that is impossible to grasp

Bangladesh has experienced different forms of government regime from military autocratic to
democratic republic. Before liberation, it experienced government system under British
Colonialism and government by Pakistan as it was part of Pakistan earlier. Due to the variation in
the forms of government the relations between politics and administration were also different.
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) is one of the most important pillars of the
National Integrity System having a key role in promoting excellence and integrity in the public
service and administration of the country. PSC s independence, political neutrality, transparency,
accountability, integrity and effectiveness are fundamental prerequisites for carrying out its

The Story of Sam Patch
Paul Johnson utilizes monograph to recount the story of Sam Patch, an intoxicated working class
spinner who got praised for leaping off waterfalls in the late 1820s. In spite of the fact that the
chronicled record is spotty, Johnson arranges Patch inside an arrangement of more extensive
subjects dependent upon the areas of his bounced. To start with, experiencing childhood in the
factory town of Pawtucket, Johnson tells an account of seized patriarchy: Sam s father was a
craftsman shoemaker who lost his business in the face of industrialization. This was some piece of
a more extensive story of the rise of compensation work and diminishing area holding, both of
which served to undermine the control and position of fathers. After the grown up Sam Patch
moves to Paterson, NJ, he does his first public/political hops. To begin with, he bounced to
undermine the opening festival of a center privileged nature hold assembled by a neighborhood
ambitious person who was attempting to prohibit the working population from his more cultured
ideas of relaxation. Johnson utilizes the fairly interesting story of Sam Patch and his ascent to
celebrity to investigate various expansive progressions happening in America throughout this time
period. Industrialization, Rise of popular, self made celebrity culture, Sam Patch as Jacksonian
democracy Whig vision vs. Democratic vision, Rise of wagelabor mirroring decline of patriarchy

Stalin s Launch of the Great Terror Essays
Stalin s Launch of the Great Terror The Great Terror of 1936 1938 came after a period of
success, with the completion of the First Five Year Plan and the Peasants had been collectivised
to make food for the workers in the factories. Yet there was still opposition to Stalin s leadership
inside the party from Ryutin; Ryutin argued that Stalin should be removed from the position of
General Secretary. Stalin then called for the execution of Ryutin (most communist did not believe
in killing their own), Kirov, Stalin s supporter and the head of Leningrad headed the majority
against the execution. This made Kirov very popular in the party and when there was a vote in the

He also admitted to conspiring with Trotsky to destroy Communism this conspiracy was called
the Trotskyite Zinovievite Conspiracy. The other Trials were in 1937 with Trotsky, but he was
not in the country, yet they still said he was the lead conspiracer and a counter revolutionary. In
1938, Bukharin was put on trial, he admitted to nearly everything except, conspiring to plotting
the murder of Lenin. These trials made the Russian people believe that there was a conspiracy
going on and that anyone could be in on it. This made workers suspicious of anyone who did not
produce as much as their fellow workers, this meant that everyone worked hard. This was a
brilliant way of getting the workers to produce more to push crash industrialisation along, if there
had not been the conspiracy theory then Russia would not have acted like a Totalitarian State and
therefore not have been as productive. The theory scared the Russian people from even thinking
anti communist thoughts in case they were taken away to labor camps. This fear gave total
control to Stalin over all areas of Russia as no one wanted to be sent to the labor camps, so this was
a very effective way of controlling the people of Russia. Another reason for Stalin

Media Violence And Crime Violence
Media Violence and Crimes
There are few debates that have been contentious for so long as the debate of whether violent
medias contribute meaningfully to crimes. Because of the majority of shooting events committed
by younger shooters, many politicians regard cultural effects as a potential contributing factor,
while others dismiss media as a contributing factor. Within the social science community, a similar
division exists (Ferguson, 2015). For example, some professional supporting groups, like the
American Psychological Association (APA), released policy statements of a clear association
between media violence and societal aggression (Ferguson, 2015). On the contrast, actively, a group
of estimated 230 media scholars, criminologists, and psychologists wrote an open letter to the APA.
In this letter, they asked APA to withdraw their policy statements and cease from making casual
speculation.
Does media violence immediately cause the increasing number of violent crimes? In 2000, the
Federal Trade Commission(FTC) made a survey for the scientific evidence and the warning of
negative influences of media violence (Dahl Vigna, 2009). Simultaneously, the American Medical
Association, with five other public health organizations, revealed the threat of exposure to media
violence.
However, the evidence, showed in the reports of this survey, does not prove an obvious link
between media violence and violent crime (Dahl Vigna, 2009). The experiments, conducted by the
FTC in their

My Experience In Boarding School
My name boomed over the intercom and the April sunshine did not warm me as I uneasily made
my way to the front office. I had been enrolled in boarding school for eight months when I was
told there was a new girl coming and was asked to help her through the first few frightening weeks.
Being a big sister involved teaching her about what living at boarding schoolwas like, along with
just being her friend. This was an honor and immense responsibility, making me not only
excited, but anxious as well. Despite repeated nerves, I was eager to find out about her life and
rise to the occasion. Walking an apprehensive girl through the ropes of boarding school made me
a stronger, more stable person because it offered me a new perspective, valuable support, and the
fulfillment of becoming a giving friend. The next few weeks included a major lesson in a more
expansive worldview.
In particular, people with different experiences can introduce me to a new perspective. The
responsibility I attained gave me a more developed worldview that I had previously been
sheltered from. In other words, my background consisted of people just like me and the lack of
exposure limited my viewpoint. Hearing my friend s story of her hard, lonely life in Los Angeles
with her detached family opened my eyes to the reality of mankind. It is easy to judge evil from
far away, but when we are exposed to the hurt and pain that causes the corrupt behavior, empathy
comes rushing in. Her experiences were something I

This could be a major reason towards why in Ziegenfuss s (2002) experiment in table 1 shows the

continued the increase in the female ability was far greater than that of the males. Most of the
experiments regulated the subject s diet by making sure they maintained a similar intake as the

this trial by giving the other group the ability to eat randomly, meaning there is no control group

do carb or protein related diets enhance the effects of Cr? Along with diets of subjects, the effects
of the doses and method Cr is taken is very basic. All of the researched articles in table 1 show that

Music With Profanity Research Paper
Music with Profanity Every parent out there wants absolutely nothing but the best for their
children. In life, parents will do anything to make sure their kids have more than what they did.
They strive to make sure their kids to do whatever it takes to become successful in this world. As
you are raised, you are taught to never talk to strangers, always respect your elders, and never use
profanity. Our parents were raised in a whole different domain before we were brought into this
world. So many daily things have changed, from the way we turn on the television in the morning
to how we get to school or work. Things have transformed; for example, explicit musicwas not
criticized as much as it is now because music was very monitored back then. In those days,
profanity wasn t ever heard of because it was banned in almost every household. Music containing
profanity does not appeal to most adults because of their maturity level and values in life; but it
does appeal to teens because of their maturity level, rebellious behavior, and their naive mindset....

teens because we can t use them on a regular basis which gives teens that feel of power while

combined with music which surrounds us on a daily basis: how do parents not expect it to not be

Introduction:
Good afternoon board members today I will be presenting to you a brief proposal of an e marketing
plan for Ginga Sushi Bar Dining. Ginga is a restaurant located in 5 of the most sophisticated and
vibrant dining precincts in Brisbane. The restaurant offers a menu with the finest Japanese cuisine
traditions for authentic fine flavours and culinary delights. Ginga is a portrayal of traditional
Japanese cuisine with modern and western interpretations. The most iconic food choice that Ginga

The customer will constantly interact with the website where this adds value to the relationship
with the customers and the business. As the customer scrolls down, they are able to sign up for
Ginga Rewards Newsletter , this allows them to be constantly notified of the monthly rewards,
promotions and offers. By sending out newsletter to the customers, it helps the customers learn
about the restaurant and the food, this further builds on the relationship between the customer and
the business (Chaffey 2013).
Weakness
1. Bad site navigation: When customers visits a restaurant s website they expect the menu to be
easily located, a tab specifically for the menu perhaps. In this case, Ginga s restaurant menu was
very hard to locate, it required a lot of searching before it was finally located. This is a major flaw
for the website as it didn t allow the user to efficiently locate the information they are looking for
hence, causing them to have an unsatisfactory experience (Chaffey 2013).
2. Slow loading time: Due to the website being very intricate and detailed, the loading time for
the website is fairly slow. When pressing on different tabs, sometimes the content fails to load or
shows up a few seconds later. The rule of thumb is website visitors will not hang around the site if
they have to wait for more than 4 seconds for the content to load (Chaffey 2013). Next Step:

College Football Stadium Sponsorship
The discussion of corporate sponsorships for college football stadium naming is a topic that is often
discussed, but not so easily acted upon. There have been various studies constructed to attempt at
understanding the phenomenon of what is the lag of universities partaking in what could be
considered as an opportunity. In literature it is very important to understand all the concepts and
issues that take part in making a decision as such. A current trend found throughout all literature is
the perception and view of the fans. The gap existing within the literature is discovering the actual
reason why a universityshould or should not partake in such an opportunity. A trend often found is

(merriam Webster) defines a tradition as an inherited, established or customary pattern of
thought, action, or behavior (as a religious practice or a social custom). In relation to these
traditions most of them take place near or at a stadium where you can locate a sense of
community. Research has also shown that social spaces (football stadiums) are prominent in
creating unity within a community or school (Warner: shaping Community on Campus). So yes
the traditions and venues and names of these venues must all contribute to fit in the community.
With this in mind traditions can all get lost when a corporation comes in and decides to name
the venue (Boyd 2000). Maintaining traditions have been shown to be valuable and changing the
name of something historic could ruin the prestige of said facility and result in outrage (Snider,
Rysen). A example of this is when the GEO Group, a multinational corporation that runs prisons,
pledged $6 million for the naming rights to Florida Atlantic Universities stadium. The fans were
upset and did not agree and decided to protest. The university administrators listened to the fans
as they expressed their feelings to preserve the history of Coach Howard whom the field is
named after (GEO Group Article). Today the stadium is named FAU stadium representing the
university as a whole. This facility is considered the location where they are able to establish a
sense of community and come together. In other words it is a name and a place that people can
return to and have a homecoming (boyd 2000) The distinctiveness will remain and will allow for a
homecoming

Keg River Essay
The term Keg River has been historically used within Alberta to indentify early to middle Devonian
carbonate reef type structures within the Alberta Basin. Nomenclature problems were identified by
Schneider (2011) with commonly interchangeable terminology that began in the 1930s, including
Upper Elk Point formations such as the Winnipegosis, Keg River and Methy.
Sproule (in Ells, 1932) described the Keg River from outcrops along the Clearwater River, near
Fort McMurray in the 1930s. Sproule described the carbonate sequence as a thin bedded, alternating
limestone and shale, progressing to an argillaceous limestone under a massive dolostone.
The Methy Formation was first published in research from Nauss (1950), currently used as the ...

Corrigan (1975) divided the Keg River into two units; the lower unit The Platform consisting of
uniform thickness over a large regionally area; and the second unit as an aerially restricted Buildup
consisting of reef mounds deposited on the top of the lower platform unit. He described the Keg
River Formation to contain halite, anhydrite and carbonate.
Campbell (1987) defined the Keg River Formation as an open marine carbonate with an upward
shoaling character marking the beginning of the Lower Elk Point Group (Lower Keg River
Member).
This Lower Keg River member was initiated by a rapid increase in sea level elevation flooding
the salt plains of the Contact Rapids. Campbell (1987) described the Lower member of a dark
micritic limestone, in a somewhat euxinic environment, containing bitumen and fauna such as
brachiopods, crinoids, corals, stromatoporoids and gastropods. The unit can be locally
dolomitized with a maximum thickness of approximately 50m. The Upper Keg River member
was deposited during the restriction of marine waters by the Presqu ile Barrier reef into the Elk
Point Basin (Campbell, 1987). The interior of the basin contains Upper Keg River pinnacle reefs,
banks and platforms. Campbell (1987) noted the spatial differences in the type of carbonate
deposition within sub basins; areas from the Peace River Arch to southern Albertashow a fringing
carbonate platform, while the Rainbow, Zama and Shekelie basins contained the majority of the

Summary Of The Rhetorical Situation
In The Rhetorical Situation , Bitzer states that An act is moral because it is an act performed in a
situation of a certain kind; similarly, a work is rhetorical because it is a response to a situation of
a certain kind. It s very hard to understand rhetoric without thinking about theatrical acts as a
response to a situation. Rhetorical is meant to produce action or change in the world . It exists
because of a specific situation which it responds to in order to accomplish something. Bitzer came
up with three main constituents; Exigence, Audience, and Constraints, to help analyze a rhetorical
situation. Fresh Future Farm is a perfect example of the real world rhetorical situation. They are

Bitzer talks about Franklin D. Roosevelt s brief speech about the Declaration of war. She
explains why the message is a response to an exigence and how it is perceived by one major

speech itself. Fresh Future Farm is a non profit with the goal of establishing an urban farm training
center that educates South Carolina s working poor, new farmers and disadvantaged family farmers
about profitable agricultural techniques that reclaim underused resources and economic
opportunities. Fresh Future Farm encourages people to eat and live better. It is a farm and grocery

Was The Roaring Twenties Really Roaring
The Roaring Twenties was the period of that Great American Prosperity which was built on shaky
foundations. as J. Paul Getty would say. For the first time, more people lived in the city than on
farms. The economy was booming. So what makes the twenties so roaring? The Roaring Twenties
were the start of many important industries we have today, including automotive, radio, and
fashion. The automotive industry really took off during this time period. Henry Ford and Ford
Motor Company manufactured cars that became extremely popular. In 1913, Henry Ford created
the first moving assembly line for an entire automobile. It reduced the amount of time it took to
make, therefore making it possible to create more cars. This was also the time period that

  • 2. Wilson Vs Macomber Essay In Ernest Hemingway s short story, The Short, Happy life of Francis Macomber, Hemingway uses the writer s craft of perspective to develop the characterization of the three protagonists. Wilson, Margaret, and Macomber s characterization develops through multiple perspectives and techniques that help to create a consistently negative tone. Through reading this story, readers can better understand how to view other people s actions and their own. In Hemingway s short story, it is evident to readers that Wilson, despite being a professional hunter, is self centered, refuses to take responsibility for his actions, and is unethical. Wilson s self centered, apathetic regard for the Macombers marital issues is shown through how willing he is to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Wilson s internal dialogue, readers can also see that though he tends to judge others, he rarely criticizes his own actions. Near the ending of the book, readers can see the way Wilson views his behaviors, and just how skewed his morals really are. Wilson s unethical nature is exemplified through his acceptance and normalization of sleeping with married women. On page nineteen, the text states that, He, Robert Wilson, carried a double size cot on safari to accommodate any windfalls he might receive. This description of Wilson allows the reader to understand just how selfish and immoral Wilson is. Not only does he commit shameful acts and justify himself, but he does it on a regular basis and with a lot of people.Though he admits to despising many of these people, as long as they will pay him well enough, he is willing to do anything. Truly, Wilson, despite lowering himself to such pitiful standards, still views himself as superior to everyone else. Despite Wilson s professionalism as a hunter, through analyzing Hemingway s description of Wilson and Wilson s internal dialogue, readers can see that his ethics are very unprofessional. Readers can then better understand Wilson s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. World War 2 Dbq Analysis During World War 2, the Treaty of Versailles was unfair to the axis powers. Inflation and war debt just made things worse. The German population wanted a leader who could save them from this misery, so they chose Hitler and that s how Germany became powerful after its fall, and how Hitler began his control over Europe. Appeasement is to make someone less angry by agreeing to their demands. Collective security is the cooperation of several countries in an alliance to strengthen the security of each. The war was brought and the best response to aggression was collective security. In 1939, there was a Second World War. The Munich Agreement caused many disagreements between countries. Kennan also disagreed with the agreement at the Munich conference because he thought that Chamberlain and Daladier were performing a desperate act of appeasement at the cost of Czechoslovak state , because they wanted to avoid war and secure peace for Europe s future. It was December 23rd , 1943, and there they were, sitting in a ghost town that was once the fine city of Rostock. The soldiers were waiting patiently in the bombed out, abandoned airplane factory that still looked like a war zone. The area was littered with skeletons of World War II jets and engines that once fueled Hitler s Wehrmacht and mighty blitzkriegs that helped him conquer most of Europe in its hey day. Hitler s army went through Europe decimating buildings and works of art that had great historical value. The Nazi soldiers gave no thought to what they were doing, but only wishing to please the Furor. The bones of these mighty planes looked as sorrowful as the men were now feeling. The putrid smell of dead bodies and spent casings hung heavy in their nostrils. The entire company was chilled to the bone by the hard sleet and snow that had been pelting them relentlessly for the past15 hours. They were in the northeastern corner of Germany, nestled between the mighty Warnow River and the harsh Baltic Sea in a city that once was bustling and thriving before the allies invaded through Demark and Sweden and the red Russians barreled through Poland. How many squares of various sizes are there? Also, how many squares can be in any sized checkerboard (e.g. 9 by 9 checkerboard). There are many steps to figure out the problem. First, I figured out how many squares there were in the checkerboard squares which was 64.(Green should explain how you got 64.) To find 64 I simply looked at the top of the square and added the squares up to get 8, and I did the same exact thing to the side of the square and got 8 then I multiplied them to get 64 squares.. He attempted many tactics against the British army. At the Battle of Trafalgar, Napoleon amp;#8217;s loss was severe. The unexpected raid of the British admiral Lord Nelson, forced Napoleon to lose. Soon after this loss, Napoleon attempted to force Economic Blockades on Britain called the Continental System. The British counter to this move was to demand that any ship going to Europe, was to report in to Great Britain first. After a while, the French Navy was not able to hold off the British navy and the Continental System failed. The French Economy soon worsened and Napoleon continued to expand his empire. Napoleon then made many more moves stirring up more trouble. He named his brothers kings in conquered countries, and removed the Holy Roman Empire, setting up the Confederation of the Rhine. The book series was such a great success that in 2008, the first book was turned into a film. What many people may not realize is that CS Lewis wrote the book series with a specific goal in mind: to showcase the word of God to different parts of the world through an artistic lens. Lastly, the four children (Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Suzan) are human beings. They represent four different kinds of people who have different encounters with God. For Peter, he is the skeptical type of Christian. One who is doubtful by how God can use him to help build God s kingdom, yet at times he forgets that it is only Christ who can defeat evil and not by his strength alone. Edmund is the type of Christian who has sinned and fallen short many times along the road before choosing to love and follow Christ. While Suzan is the type of Christian who has consistently doubted whether or not Christ, even really exists before fully trusting God with the things that don t seem to make sense. Lastly, Lucy represents the Christians who just love, follow and dedicate their lives to Christ without hesitation and without doubt. Lucy s childlikeness showcases how Christians should love and trust Christ with our lives. Since the four children can be seen as symbolisms of human beings, their relationship with Aslan shows a lot about the grace, mercy and overall character of God. One of the main examples where this is seen is the grace that Aslan showed to Edmund who was a traitor. Despite Edmunds choice to prioritize Turkish delight over his family and his right as one of the king of Narnia, Aslan still accepted Edmund into his army and not only that Edmund still inherited the kingdom of Narnia not by his own works but by Aslan s ... • 14. Argumentative Analysis Video games impact the brain in a wide variety of ways. Some people could, and have, made the argument that video games are destructive for children and that they become a distraction from actual educational work (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). On the other hand, one could certainly argue that video games could be a valuable tool in the learning environment (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). At any rate, there are several different, and accurate views on the subject. The initial argument I mentioned about video games is probably the one you hear about most often. How many times have you heard a set of parents say that their child is rotting away in front of a video game. Well, there is actually some truth to that. Children who show addictive behavior in regards to video games have also shown symptoms that are typical in addicts of other sorts (Bavelier, Green, Han, Renshaw, Merzenich, Gentile, 2011). Alexander III used Nationalism to divide the people of Russia, even though his intention was to unify the people. Alexander III came to power after his father, Alexander II, was assassinated. He quickly came to power and wanted to quickly set reform in Russia, since it is believed that his father s reforms caused his assassination(Axelrod,1994). When he put his reforms into place, he developed a concept of extreme Russian nationalism called Russification. He used Russification to develop a purely Russian nation. Alexander III used Russification to get rid of any nationality in Russia that is not Russian or any person in Russia that does not support his reforms. Along with secular reform, religious toleration was sacrificed during this period. Russia s Jews, perennial targets, were persecuted more harshly than ever, as were Russo Germans, Poles, and Finns, whose crime was their failure to have been born 100 percent Russian (1994). Alexander III started to become extremely harsh in getting rid of people that are not purely Russian, even though they did not have a choice to be 100 percent Russian or not. Totality and Infinity, a book on exteriority is one of his articles that have been liked by many readers in the past and recent times. The writer demonstrates the manner in which subjectivity begins from the idea of perpetuity, and how infinite is an outcome of the correlation of selfto other. The main purpose of Levinas work is to find out the dominance of the Other based on the epiphany of the face. According to his work, infinite is the beginning or foundation of ethicsand, he also declines any ethical intellectualism. Levinas acknowledges the idea that every human being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because sex can mean different things to different people, any phenomenology of sex should start by tackling on possible foundational aspects of the experience (Levinas, 108). One the key aspect is the idea that sexual practice consists of the relations that takes place between to individuals. Naturally, sexual practice does not need the presence of a second party and in many cases, sexual experience comprises of many individuals. On the other hand, even in a time when sex occurs solitarily or among people within the same group, the encounter with another individual can characterize the experience (Levinas, 108). For example individuals who practice masturbation do that because of remembering the experience he had with a previous partner. In his work, Levinas tend to argues that a real ethical relationship can only take place in a situation whereby the self cannot spin the other into an object of comprehension (Levinas, 108). While not emphasizing broadly on sex and sexuality, the writer in a few words explicated his opinions on the issue in late part of this book, where he extended his idea of the face to face ethnic encounter to matter of Eros and productiveness (Levinas, 108). • 19. Good And Evil In Thomas Malory s Le Morte D Arthur In the excerpts from Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, King Arthur is a complex character with both good and poor traits. Arthur maintains his symbolic representation of good throughout the tale, but Malory crafts Arthur s character in such a way that his weaknesses, or bad traits, shed a rather mortal light upon his character. These weaknesses, combined with the greatness of Arthur, are eventually what gives way to the downfall of Arthur. His bad traits reflect much of what we see in ourselves. Though Arthur is a noble, great, and powerful character, it does not mean that he may not be a flawed character as well. Arthur, throughout the tales, often falls victim to his own mortal whims. He is often shortsighted and reckless in his decision making. An example of this is in Malory s Arthur and Pellinore story from Le Morte d Arthur, Tell me, said Merlin, Do you prefer the sword or the scabbard? The sword, said Arthur. You are a fool, said Merlin. The scabbard is worth ten of the sword, because while you wear it, regardless of how seriously you are wounded, you will lose no blood (2). Through this... His courage and skill is exemplified by this quote from Malory s Le Morte d Arthur, If King Arthur s army were the smaller, their courage was the higher, confident they were of the righteousness of their cause. • 20. Forecasting Methods Compare and Contrast Forecast in a simple terms is a prediction thru a statement or claim that a particular event will occur in the future. It looks like to me that almost the majority of the people, including children, once in their life time were a forecasters, as sometimes in their past they?ve tried to predict any future event. This act of making such prediction is therefore, called forecasting. Forecasts are never finished, they are needed continuously and as the time passes, their accuracy and their impact on actual performance are meas So it looks like that forecast in itself, is not too complicated, it becomes complicated once the word ?good? is attached to it. Delta airline is one clear example as it is the latest one to make use of the chapter 11. The remaining of this paper will be talking about the different forecasting methods used by the airline industry to make future prediction of passenger demand. The exactness of forecasts is very critical to the revenue management system as lousy prediction of demand can lead to an incorrect decision making, which in turn leads to a miserable revenue performance. So the airline industry, more than any other industry, needs an accurate forecasting not only because of the September 11 occurrence, but also due to a very high price of crude oil, which tends to increase the price of kerosene highly used by the industry. One study identified as the Improved Forecast Accuracy in Airline Revenue Management (2001, Richard Zeni) shows that airlines divide passengers into two large categories based on their sensitivity to price and travel needs. These included business passengers and leisure passengers. This study has further shown that business travelers have a tendency to make their arrangements close to their departure date staying at their destination for only a short time. However, they did not show much flexibility on their plans at all, but they were willingly to pay more money for their tickets. On the other hand, exactly the opposite happened with leisure travelers. They usually booked their flights well ahead of their travel date; stayed more time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. The Social Aspects Of Gender In No Country For Old Men What is gender and how is gender determined? Gender is the way humans are categorized into a culture and is also the key to the entrance of a society. The two common genders that are recognizable throughout every culture across the world are male and female. Commonly, gender is decided quickly after birth, or sometimes even before birth, by using the parts of one s anatomy to categorize the new born. What the new born doesn t know is that once they grow up, they will have to abide by a set of rules to stay in their gender grouping, male or female. All too commonly, though, it can be seen that once the males grow up, they gain a sense of power, this power being one that shadows the females and leaves the females empty handed compared to the males, the so called superior breed. The film No Country for Old Menby Ethan Coen and Joel Coen illustrates that men are dominant over men, but most importantly, men are dominant over women, which parallels with Aaron H. Devor s essay, Becoming Members of Society: Learning the Social Meanings of Gender . Furthermore, the film presents the idea that when males are given too much power, they turn into a feared monster that is a desired, which is fulfilled by fear and attraction. So, one of the ways that could have potentially prevented the situation from happening at the first place was implementing the universal protocol procedure. According to the protocol the conduction of proper pre as well as post operating procedures are extremely mandatory. Therefore, by enforcing a standardized routine pre operating procedure such as verifying the patient as well as the correct site for the procedure, by having the medical staff or preferably the physician marking the operating site with his or her initials before the surgery will be an effective preventive measure (Mulloy Hughes 2008). Also, by properly conducting a time out session where the patient is provided with a standardized briefing prior to the patient is sedated in the OR could also eliminate some the sentinel or adverse events in the OR. Furthermore, follow a checklist, which not only pertains to the surgery itself, but also focuses on the other procedures involved such as admissions, anesthesia equipment, and discharge (Mulloy Hughes 2008). Ethnic Conflict in the United States Ethnic Conflict in the United States The United States is considered a melting pot because of the vast array of different cultures, ethnicities, and religious groups who all live within its borders. Other countries with fewer cultural differences have been torn apart by the conflicts that arise between these differing groups. It is believed by some that the United States has been able to avoid such ethical conflicts as have brought down other nations but looking at American history it is evident that this is not true. America s history is one of ethnic conflict because of religion, nationalistic, and particularly ethnic differences. The two centuries that the United States has existed has been a history of racial marginalization particularly against African Americans which culminated with the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. In the present, the United States likes to claim that as a nation, we are color blind but evidence exists to the contrary. The Klu Klux Klan (KKK) still exists, hate crimes are committed based on ethnicity, and stereotypes are perpetuated in order to minimize and ostracize. Despite these instances, the country has held strong largely because although these instances occur, they are not approved of by the government or those involved in criminal justice. African Americans tend to have more of an alcohol problem as a population whole compared to whites but tend to consume less alcohol overall (Donatelle, 2004). Excessive, long term alcohol intake can lead to enhanced risk of developing cancer, a damaged central nervous system and harmful effects to the cardiovascular system (Donatelle, 2004). Since African Americans are already at more risk for developing cancer and cardiovascular disease, alcohol would enhance the risk of developing these disease and thus would reduce their overall health. Right off the bat, the number 451, in Fahrenheit 451, is stated on the first page of the book. It also symbolizes the burning and failing of Montag s society. Essentially, it s the temperature at which society burns. This symbol is the most significant one since it is in the title of the book and is stated directly on the first page. The second symbol we come across in the story is the hearth and the salamander. Both the hearth and the salamander symbolize fire. A hearth is the area around a fireplace, it is usually used as a symbol of someone s home. A salamander is known to be able to endure or live in fire and not be harmed by it. We see salamander in the story as one of Montag s tattoos and the name of his firetruck. Montag does not live unharmed by fire as he realizes how burning books has ruined his society and that his society has ruined his home (hearth) as shown by Mildred s dependence on TV and not communicating with Montag like a normal couple. Later in the book we are shown that the salamander is one of the official symbols of the firemen. Sieve and the sand. This is the title of the second section in the book. Yet there was still opposition to Stalin s leadership inside the party from Ryutin; Ryutin argued that Stalin should be removed from the position of General Secretary. • 47. Media Violence And Crime Violence Media Violence and Crimes There are few debates that have been contentious for so long as the debate of whether violent medias contribute meaningfully to crimes. Because of the majority of shooting events committed by younger shooters, many politicians regard cultural effects as a potential contributing factor, while others dismiss media as a contributing factor. Within the social science community, a similar division exists (Ferguson, 2015). For example, some professional supporting groups, like the American Psychological Association (APA), released policy statements of a clear association between media violence and societal aggression (Ferguson, 2015). On the contrast, actively, a group of estimated 230 media scholars, criminologists, and psychologists wrote an open letter to the APA. In this letter, they asked APA to withdraw their policy statements and cease from making casual speculation. Does media violence immediately cause the increasing number of violent crimes? In 2000, the Federal Trade Commission(FTC) made a survey for the scientific evidence and the warning of negative influences of media violence (Dahl Vigna, 2009). Simultaneously, the American Medical Association, with five other public health organizations, revealed the threat of exposure to media violence. However, the evidence, showed in the reports of this survey, does not prove an obvious link between media violence and violent crime (Dahl Vigna, 2009). I had been enrolled in boarding school for eight months when I was told there was a new girl coming and was asked to help her through the first few frightening weeks. Being a big sister involved teaching her about what living at boarding schoolwas like, along with just being her friend. This was an honor and immense responsibility, making me not only excited, but anxious as well. Despite repeated nerves, I was eager to find out about her life and rise to the occasion. Walking an apprehensive girl through the ropes of boarding school made me a stronger, more stable person because it offered me a new perspective, valuable support, and the fulfillment of becoming a giving friend. The next few weeks included a major lesson in a more expansive worldview. In particular, people with different experiences can introduce me to a new perspective. The responsibility I attained gave me a more developed worldview that I had previously been sheltered from. In other words, my background consisted of people just like me and the lack of exposure limited my viewpoint. Hearing my friend s story of her hard, lonely life in Los Angeles with her detached family opened my eyes to the reality of mankind. It is easy to judge evil from far away, but when we are exposed to the hurt and pain that causes the corrupt behavior, empathy comes rushing in. Her experiences were something I ... As you are raised, you are taught to never talk to strangers, always respect your elders, and never use profanity. Our parents were raised in a whole different domain before we were brought into this world. So many daily things have changed, from the way we turn on the television in the morning to how we get to school or work. Things have transformed; for example, explicit musicwas not criticized as much as it is now because music was very monitored back then. (merriam Webster) defines a tradition as an inherited, established or customary pattern of thought, action, or behavior (as a religious practice or a social custom). In relation to these traditions most of them take place near or at a stadium where you can locate a sense of community. Research has also shown that social spaces (football stadiums) are prominent in creating unity within a community or school (Warner: shaping Community on Campus). So yes the traditions and venues and names of these venues must all contribute to fit in the community. With this in mind traditions can all get lost when a corporation comes in and decides to name the venue (Boyd 2000). Maintaining traditions have been shown to be valuable and changing the name of something historic could ruin the prestige of said facility and result in outrage (Snider, Rysen). A example of this is when the GEO Group, a multinational corporation that runs prisons, pledged $6 million for the naming rights to Florida Atlantic Universities stadium. The fans were upset and did not agree and decided to protest. The university administrators listened to the fans as they expressed their feelings to preserve the history of Coach Howard whom the field is named after (GEO Group Article). Today the stadium is named FAU stadium representing the university as a whole. This facility is considered the location where they are able to establish a sense of community and come together. Sproule (in Ells, 1932) described the Keg River from outcrops along the Clearwater River, near Fort McMurray in the 1930s. Campbell (1987) defined the Keg River Formation as an open marine carbonate with an upward shoaling character marking the beginning of the Lower Elk Point Group (Lower Keg River Member).
