Aversive Effects of Ethanol in Adolescent vs. Adult Rats
Researchers Nicole L. Schramm Sapyta, Alexandra
DiFeliceantonio, and Cynthia M. Kuhn (2010), conducted
the study of Aversive Effects of Ethanol in
Adolescent vs. Adult Rats , looking to address two key
questions: Number one, do reduced aversive effects of
ethanol in younger rats correlate with increased
ethanol consumption? and second, are the reduced
aversive effects in adolescents attributable to
reduced sensitivity to ethanol s physiological
effects?
A sample of adolescent and adult male CD rats (outbred
Sprague Dawley derived strain) were obtained from
Charles River Laboratories (Raleigh, NC), and
maintained in a temperature vivarium standard of 12:12
light dark cycle throughout the experiement. Before
the experiment could begin, it was vital to find out
which of the 94 rats formed a conditioned taste for
ethanol, this was achieved with aversion therapy
whereby the rats were deprived of water for 24 hours,
and then given 15 minute acccess to a water bottle the
next day, this was then repeated but the water was
replaced with 0.2% saccharin solution and also
injected with ethanol. After another water deprived 24
hours, the rats had access to two bottles, one
containing water and the other with 0.2% saccharin
solution. The dependent measure was the percent of
saccharin consumption on the test day thus the rats
that consumed less than 1ml of total solution were
excluded from the experiemnt, leaving the researchers

Jerry Weintraub s American Dream
This is the story of Jerry Weintraub, a man who mastered the art of the schmooze and had an eye
for talent like none other. Jerry Weintraub spent over half of his life in show business earning
himself the reputation of Hollywood s smooth talker, deal maker, and show headliner. By
establishing legendary acts into mainstream media such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Led
Zeppelin, John Denver, Brad Pitt, and films such as The Karate Kid and Ocean s Eleven,
Weintraub catapulted himself to fame and riches by the age of 26. When I Stop Talking You ll

Jerry Weintraub as the atypical protagonist and his own unique story. Jerry Weintraub had the

Soon enough, he worked his way up to being a producer and talent agent where he crossed paths
with the great Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was one of Weintraub s greatest act and takes up a large
section of this book. One story involves Sinatra drunk, incoherent, and ready to jump off the
Vegas casino until Jerry came up with an idea to for him to perform in Madison Square Garden
in a boxing ring. A wild idea at the time, but Jerry handled his depression in the best way he could
which was creating a show. This turned out to be his greatest concert. This particular anecdote
teaches a lesson of having a connection to your work and visualizing failure and turning it
around. Along came the highlight of Jerry s career and perhaps the greatest takeaway of When I
Stop Talking You ll Know I m Dead and a story that attracts many to reading this novel. Elvis was
in the prime of his career and had the country astir with his flashy larger than life persona. Jerry
knew he could take this larger to life act and make it even bigger:I started to call... every morning

The University of Maryland s MBA Program
As a young professional, I am offered many pathways in this prominently developing business
world. My undergraduate studies and first hand work experience thus far have provided me with an
opportunity to make clear of the limitless possibilities within many career industries. Upon
graduating from the University of Maryland s Masters of Business Administration program, I want
to become a project manager for a top global defense technology company such as my current
employer, Northrop Grumman. My intention to seek a managementopportunity in this versatile
position would allow me to better expose my leadership abilities that I demonstrate through project
tasks and volunteer work on an everyday basis.
After indefinable further years of experience post MBA, my long term goal is to retain a program
manager position on an innovative program in the public sector. I will seek a program pertaining to
military technologies that would assist the United States in combat defense. I would be very
content in managing team resources and contribute value to a company s growth while positively
impacting our country s military. At Northrop Grumman, I have excelled by providing the customer
with micromanaging support to increase project structure on a largely noticed Social Security
Administration system.
Most MBA programs will allow me to hone my existing skill set unlike ever before; however, a

The health sector is among the most important sectors in the United States economy. The
government has enacted certain laws that affect the corporation s activities and the insurance
industry in general. The regulation affects competition among the health insurance companies, and
the insurance industry in general.
Among the five forces of competition; existing competitive rivalry between suppliers, threat of new
market entrants, bargaining power of buyers, power of suppliers and threat of substitute products,
the most significant for UnitedHealth Group are threats for substitute products and rivalry among
competing firms. Given the fact that there are numerous healthcare insurance firms in the world;
there are also a number of substitutes for the corporation products and services. In recent years, the
banking industry has become involved in insurance activities. They provide some medical plans,
which act as substitutes to the UnitedHealth Group products. Banc assurance, otherwise known as
the bank insurance model, is a very common phenomenon in this global world. Banc assurance is
an arrangement in which a bank and an insurance company form a partnership so that the insurance
company can sell its products to the bank s client base. This type of partnership can be profitable
for both, the bank and the insurance company. Banks can earn additional revenue by selling the

The Importance Of A Good Human Resource Department
A good human resource department is essential to any successful businesses in today s society.
Before human resource managers were seen as people who deal with employee disputes and little
more, now this is just one small part of their role to organisations. Human resource is a huge
department for reasons as being a key planner in helping company s employee performances. In this
essay I will be exploring the different types of personnel managementthat is used, assessing the
roles of human resource practitioners, Evaluating the responsibilities of human resource practices
and evaluating the process of job evaluations and the main factors which determine pay whilst
describing the link between motivational theories. I will also explore the different organisational
approaches to monitoring staff performances in doing so I will show evidence of my research by

Management of your staff is one of the most important roles of any human resource department, the
way that it is done is split into two types; personnel management and human resource management.
Personnel management is a predominantly administrative record keeping function that aims to
establish and maintain equitable terms and conditions of employment (Nayab, 2015). Human
resource management integrates the traditional personnel management functions to incorporate
goals and strategies, and performs additional people centred organizational developmental activities

Generation Of Nurses
The differences between men and women in the unit that I work in is more by age than by grouped
by sex. The older generation of nurses seems to work more independently then be younger
generations. The older nurses are more solitary and do not embrace team nursing. The younger
generation nurses tend to work as team members and have a group belonging mentality. They
patients are the unit s patients and everyone has to work together. The older nurses own their
patients, and no one should touch them.
The older nurses are considered from the Baby Boomer generation and are typically in the fifties
and sixties (Borkowski, 2011 p. 39). These nurses tend to be long term employees who stay with
tradition and have a hard working attitude (Borkowski, 2011). The younger nurses would be in the
Generation X and Millennial age grouping, who tend to be less formal and have a more casual
relationship with their employer (Borkowski, 2011, P. 39). The different generations present unique
management challenges when handling the group s needs.
The additional difference is that the older generation of nurses is there for longevity celebrating 20
and 30 years with the hospital. The newer generation nurses are beefing up their resumes and are
leaving on a monthly basis. The younger generation is always looking for the next experience, the

The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act Essay
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which originally began as the Education for All
Handicapped Children Act of 1975 (EHA), was created to ensure a free and appropriate public
education to children with disabilities. This policy was implemented in an effort to provide
equal access to education for all. Prior to 1975, the needs of children with disabilities were highly
overlooked. According to the Department of Education, Office of Special Education and
Rehabilitative Services (2010), U.S. schools educated only one in five children with disabilities,
and many states had laws excluding certain students from school, including children who were
deaf, blind, emotionally disturbed, or mentally retarded. The discrimination and lack of
educational rights of children with disabilities was a vast social problem and detrimental to the
lives and worth of children with disabilities and their families. The EHA s name was officially
changed to IDEA in 1990, and throughout the years, there have been many more improvements and
amendments made to the policy, the latest amendment being in 2004. Some of the main
requirements of the IDEA are for schools to focus on specialized individual educational needs of
children, through the use of Individualized Education Programs (IEP), and placing children in a
Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) when possible where they can be included with non disabled
classmates. The IDEA also requires transition assistance from high schoolto

Advice To Youth Satire
Twain s Terrible Tips: Analytical Essay of Advice to Youth In Mark Twain s Advice to Youth he
is giving advice to the parents of children through satire. Though it may seem he is speaking
directly to the children, he uses horatian satire to address the parents and express what he believes
to be the problems of how they are raising their children. Children are being raised to always do
the right thing, though their parents know they will eventually make mistakes. Twain was trying to
change this approach in parenting. Instead of teaching children to be superior, the children should
be taught how to be a successful adult. All children are going to disobey, lie, and make mistakes.
Mark Twain s satirical approach is meant to show parents that children should be prepared to be an
adult, instead of having to learn everything the hard way. In Advice to Youth Twain uses techniques
like irony, reversal, and understatement to subtly hint that parenting needs to change. Irony is a
great tool to use, because it lightens the mood and brings humor into the story. By using irony,

reputation with everybody to know that you get up with the lark; and if you get the right kind
of lark, and work at him right, you can easily train him to get up at half past nine, every time it s
no trick at all. Typically getting up with the lark means getting up very early in the morning, but
Twain reverses this belief by saying a person can train a lark to wake up much later. Reversal is a
great technique to use in this case, because the reader is not expecting the lark to be waking up so

Martin Luther, John Calvin And The Protestant Reformation
One theme present during the reformation, was smaller churches breaking off from the larger
church, and establishing their own forms of christianity. Many people were unhappy with the way
the church was running and sought to reform these flaws by making their own forms of the
church. People such as Martin Luther and John Calvin, were unhappy with how the church was
being run created their own religions. Martin Luther created Lutheranism, which did not believe in
the selling of indulgences and believed that salvation was granted by faith alone. Both of these
ideas went against the Church at the time and his ideas were highly disputed. John calvin had
created Calvinism, which believed in predestination, which meant that God had already decided
who was saved, and who was damned. The idea of predestination also went against the church s
idea that faith and good works lead to salvation. 2. Immorality, ignorance, and pluralism all gave the
church a bad name, but immorality hurt the church the most. Immorality in the church consisted of
gambling, drinking, and promiscuity which cast a bad light on the church as the clergy were
supposed to be men of god and were not to engage in such devious acts. The clergy was also highly

American Christianity Democratized
How was American Christianity democratized during this period, and how else was the United
States democratized? The Second Great Awakening commenced with a Protestant revival
movement during the early beginning around 1790, the movement gained momentum through
1820s. The later emergence of the Transcendentalists movement emerged, rooted by their religious
philosophy extended from more than a protestant movement but a social and political one, linked
far back in American history .Religious movements anticipated the coming of Christ and the need to
change moral values. Printing inked how ordinary Americans distrusted leaders and defend the right
to shape their own faith and submit to leaders of their own choosing (Hatch).Printing was the
primary driver of a chain of events that would lead to Christian democratization ,and the increasing
growth of Methodist , Baptist and later transcendentalist movement between Americans . The
separation of church and politics stirred many issues of authority, organization and leadership,
Americans had sentimental argued that their spiritual beliefs should not be morally tied into their
political views using pamphlets, tracts, booklets, journals and newspapers .The early
democratization of christianity changed three aspects of religion; First, it denied the class structure
that set clergy as exceptional ,movements lead by men like Wesley and Asbury, empowered

Radiation Quantity And Units Essay
Radiation quantity and units Most scientists in the international community measure radiation
using the System International (SI), a uniform system of weights and measures that evolved from
the metric system. In the United States, however, the conventional system of measurement is still
widely used.
2.2.1) Units of Radioactivity:
The original unit for measuring the amount of radioactivity was the curie (Ci) first defined to
correspond to one gram of radium 226 and more recently defined as: 1 curie = 3.7x1010 radioactive
decays per second. In the International System of Units (SI) the curie has been replaced by the
Becquerel (Bq), where One Ci is equal to 37 billion (37 X 109) Bq.
Ci or Bq may be used to refer to the amount of radioactive materials released into the environment.
2.2.2) Radiation exposure unit:
The exposure rate defined as the exposure per unit time. The special unit of exposure is the
roentgen (R) defined as the amount of gamma ray and X ray radiation that produced a charge of 1
electrostatic unit (esu) of charge per 0.001293 g (1cm3) of dry air at standard temperature and
pressure (IAEA, 1989). The SI (stander international) units of exposure are coulomb/Kg of dry air.
1R = 2.58 Г— 10 4 C/Kg in air
2.2.3) Absorbed dose unit:
Sometimes also known as the physical dose, defined by the amount of energy deposited in a unit
mass in human tissue or other media. The original unit is the rad [100 erg/g]; it is now being widely

New York Times V. Sullivan Case Study
New York Times v. Sullivan was a landmark case which dictated the outcomes of many
subsequent cases. However, after the Supreme Court s unanimous ruling in favor of the New York
Times in 1964, Justice Brennan s opinion raised just as many if not more questions than it had
answered. In fact, many justices struggled with how to make sense of the ruling and how it could
be applied in both similar and different contexts. While this case was a crucial turning point in the
application of First Amendment protection in libel cases, this ruling was by no means an end all to

Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes
Diabetes is caused when a person s blood sugar level becomes too high. This is often described
as a lifelong condition. There are two types of Diabetes within the UK; Type 1 Diabetes, where
the body s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that the body uses to produce insulin.
This can develop over weeks or even days. Type 2 Diabetes occurs when the body doesn t produce
enough insulinor the body s cells do not react to insulin. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than
type 1. Many people can suffer from type 2 Diabetes for many years without realising due to
symptoms being so broad. Many people have blood sugarlevels above the normal rate. This
suggests that there is a risk of developing full diabetes in the future. However, sometimes it is not
high enough to be diagnosed as having diabetes. This is known as pre diabetes. It is extremely
important to diagnosis diabetes as soon as possible as it progressively gets worse over time if it s
not treated (NHS.UK, 2016). There are many risk factors that can have the likelihood impact on
developing diabetes, such as in males or females, food preferences, pregnancy, obesity, genetics,
damaging effects and race and ethnicity. These risk factors and their trends will be discussed in
depth later in this essay.
It is very important to the detect diabetes from early stage as high glucose levels can damage the
blood vessels, nerves and organs within the body. Mildly raised glucose levels which don t cause
any symptoms can have

Analysis Of The Book Diary Of A Madman
Lu Xun was one of the first prominent writers of modern china. He uses an ironic technique in
the preface by writing in classical Chinese language to suggest a false, friendly world made
exclusively by social appearances. The traditional Chinese text is typically seen as superior, and
as per the Chinese traditions the modern language is seen as an intruder. The author s use of the
style was a way of making a point. Diary of a Madman is a short story written by Lu Xun and
was published in the new youth magazine in 1918 (231). The story demonstrates his discontent
with traditional Chinese culture, not only by the fact that it clearly addresses the horror of
cannibalism that is believed to have occurred but he is also trying to point out the oppressive
nature of Confucian principles. In the short novel, the madman has the ability to recognize the
cruel elements of Chinese Confucian culture that serves to mock established but out dated
traditional scholarship. In the story Diary of a Madman, the protagonist of the diary talks about
his how he thinks other people perceive him. He sees that the individuals are giving him abnormal
looks; as though they were attempting to scare him or as though he had perpetrated some serious
crime. When I made my way out the front gate this morning ever so carefully there was something
funny about the way the venerable old man Zhao looked at me: seemed as though he was afraid of

But I apprised you that I was a hard man, said he, And I am a hard woman impossible to put off.
And then, he pursued, I am cold: no fervor infects me. Whereas I am hot, and fire dissolves ice.
The blaze there has thawed all the snow from your cloak (416). While St. John and Jane can be
quite similar in their stubbornness and their passion for what they believe in, St. John is cold,
and acts completely on logic and what he believes is right, while Jane has impulsive tendencies
and thinks one should balance emotion with spiritual morals. This divide between them proves
to cause even more problems in the future, when St. John attempts to convince Jane to
accompany him to India. One day, when he is teaching her Hindustani Jane realizes, He acquired
a certain influence over me that took away my liberty of mind...I could no longer talk or laugh
freely...vivacity (at least in me) was distasteful...I fell under a freezing spell. When he said go, I
went: come, I came, do this, I did it. But I did not love my servitude (432). The effect St. John
has on Jane is strong enough to completely take away her fiery personality and replace it with his
own icy and emotionless one. While Jane was at Thornfield with Mr. Rochester she happily
called him her master and was eager to serve him. However, while at Moor House with St. John
she dreads the servitude with him because instead of enhance her passion, he extinguishes it. If it
wasn t for her the close companionship she found in Diana and Mary, St. John s coldness might
have put out Jane s fire

The Problem Of Homeless Families
Homeless Families
Before I began the research I had already known that single parent homelessness is a n extremely
emotional and heart breaking problem. In seventh grade my family and I went on vacation to
New York City and I remember seeing a good of homeless people on street corners, but what
surprised me the most was seeing younger people who appeared homeless. It s a obvious answer, I
m against homelessness and family homelessness even more. It truly is heartbreaking to see little
children who are forced to grow up because their parents cannot provide for the family. It s like
animal shelter commercials, only the heartless can t feel for them. That s what makes it interesting,
how they do it and live their lives without a home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These families live together in any shelter they can find. They try to get a spot in shelters but
there is not enough shelter space to fit every homeless family so they have to resort to living on
the streets. The reason I say that it is socially underrated is because the money dedicated is
falling, how can a problem be fixed if the needed resources begin to disappear? In the words of
the National Coalition for the Homeless, the federal support for low income housing has fallen
forty nine percent from 1980 to 2003 (National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2005). Even if
family homelessness is a subtopic of the extremely broad topic of homeless does not mean that it
isn t important, however it still sits in the shadow of general homelessness. In the first source,
Homeless Families with Children , published by the National Coalition for the homeless in July
of 2009, I found many statistics related the dimensions, causes, consequences, and policy issues
about family homelessness. This article mainly consisted of logical appeals with very little
emotion added into the article. One of the most eye opening logical appeals used in the article is
the ratio of homeless children to kids with homes. The National Center on Family Homelessness
estimates, that one in 50 children in the United States are homeless. (1) This really shows that
family homeless really is a rising problem in the United States. So wouldn t more job openings fix

Analysis Of Neil Postman s Amusing Ourselves To Death
In Neil Postman s book Amusing Ourselves to Death (1985), Postman argues that the information
shared with the American populace is shaped by the forms of media that are used. By giving a
history of the changing types of American media and the effect that each has on the information
given, Postman supports his claim. Postman s purpose is to prove that media changes the
information given to the public in order to call awareness to the validity of our news. Postman
writes to an audience who is educated by media and was raised through knowledge shared by media.
Postman states that the main point to Amusing Ourselves to Death is about how, Our metaphors

The effect of this was that nothing could be simply looking at, but had to be looked over to find
the fact. With the invention of the telegraph, a large change came over the American culture.
Because of the increased speed of news, more news was sent out. This created an influx of
irrelevant news and the American people were forced to try to figure out what news was important
and which was worthless. With the influx, the idea of knowing something became not actually
knowing the background, but just knowing the headline. The biggest change to American culture
came from television. Television is viewed as a factual source; however, television...is devoted
entirely to supplying its audience with entertainment (Postman 87). The addition of television
changed culture because it a major source of so called facts was just a disguise for entertainment.
The effect of this is that people s information becomes a source of entertainment and the
entertainment is taken as fact. The changing forms of media and information creates a culture that
the perceived truth becomes the same as entertainment and there is a lack of ability to see the
difference between the two. Neil Postman wrote this book 32 years ago, yet the sentiments are the
same. Postman s arguments have grow to become more relevant in the years since the book s
original release. Postman s belief that, Our politics, religion, news,

The Power of Personality in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson
Developing character is something that comes with time. I believe that there are three major things
that effect how people develop their character where they are from, which includes their financial
status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their
lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara s The Lesson, is very much influenced by all of these factors.
Sylvia s living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Her parents not
being around much leaves her without the attention and discipline that children need to develop to
their fullest. Lastly, her friends and Miss Moore also have a great influence on how ... Show more

mentioned infrequently throughout the story, do not seem to have too much involvement with
their daughter. This is represented in Sylvia s behavior, for example, when she wants to steal
Ms. Moore s cab money and run to the bar b que. Although most of Sylvia s actions are
conceivably wrong, it would be inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is
impossible for any child to understand what is right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her.
Sylvia was probably not disciplines growing up and so her judgment of what is right or wrong is
based on her own opinions and her observations of what the other children in her neighborhood are
doing.

she is around them most frequently, and they are her peers. They too seem to come from the same

Execution Methods used in the Holocaust
When the Holocaust is mentioned most people immediately think of the concentration camps. They
predict scrawny people in dirty striped uniforms staring closely as the others are numerously getting

Holocaust but the use of gas chambers was by far the most common. The Holocaust was the best

the 1700 s to mean Of very high quality ( Finesse. ) I hoped to learn exactly how it got to the
meaning it has today and how it became so popular. The word finesse has been through many
changes based on the era it was in.

The word finesse is also popular in the music and film industry. There is a song titled Break Em

Rhetorical Criticism Of Reagan s Challenger Speech
A Rhetorical Criticism of Reagan s Challenger Address
Lu Jia
This essay will attempt to analyze Ronald Reagan s Challenger address in terms of the rhetorical
situation theorized by Dr. Blitzer and elaborated by Dr. Zarefsky in his book Public Speaking. The
effectiveness of the Challenger address will be evaluated by carefully identifying and examining
each of the four components of the rhetorical situation within the context of this speech.
Background
On the morning of January 28th, 1986, Americans watched in shock and horror as the space shuttle
Challenger exploded only 74 seconds after its launch, killing all seven crew members on board
including a high school teacher Christa McAuliffe. Thousands, including families of the crew and
schoolchildren ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He highly praised the courage and adventurous spirit of the crew members ( they had a hunger to
explore the universe ) and acknowledged their mission as a service to the country ( they served all
of us ).
Another sub audience who needed more guidance and consolation were the schoolchildren,
especially those who witnessed the disaster in person. Reagan briefly changed his tone to that of
a grandfather and tried to ease his children s fear by explaining to them sometimes painful things
like this happen . He also encouraged them to be brave and carry on with Challenger s legacy by
saying the Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we ll continue to follow them .
Reagan then reassured that the space program would continue to operate and what happened
today does nothing to diminish it . This message sought to protect the ongoing space programs
and was dedicated to the last sub audience of his speech: the NASA people. He acknowledged their
hard work and expressed sympathy for their loss of friends and coworkers.

The Use Of Deceptation In Shakespeare s Hamlet By William...
Throughout history, Shakespeare s works have been able to captivate and enchant audiences of all
backgrounds. His words have an undeniable ability to sway a crowd s emotions and truly affect
them. His plays are timeless pieces of art considered the foundations of English literature.
Shakespeare s most dramatic and infamous tragedy, Hamlet, has earned its place as a cornerstone. In
the play, Shakespeare poetically writes speeches that reveal the true colours of the characters,
whether good or devious. The main antagonist, Claudius, exposes his treachery to the audience,
through his speech to his wife Gertrude. Those living during Shakespeare s times, the Elizabethans,
were the first to witness Claudius deception and were able to fully appreciate the play. Claudius
conversation with Gertrude in Act 4, Scene 5 of Hamlet effectively targets the Elizabethan audience
through the clever use of literary tools and the connections to aspects of Elizabethan society.
Hamlet is a prime example of Shakespeare s brilliant literary wit that was able to target the
Elizabethan audience and Claudius speech is no exception. There was no such thing as special
effects in the Elizabethan Era, so metaphors helped to create a picture for the audience in Claudius
speech. He explains Ophelia s distress by exclaiming, When sorrows come, they come not single
spies/But in battalions (4.5.52 53). It is difficult at times to envision a character s emotions and this
metaphor allows the audience to

How Electricity Is Produced By Using Coal
These days, most of us tend to take electricity for granted. If one were to be asked where it comes
from, you would most likely get responses from all over, with a common response being, Out of
the sockets in the wall! In this paper I will be giving a very brief overview of how electricity is
produced, specifically from coal.
Generating electricity requires a fuel source, and the fuel source for both EKP and DP L is
coal. About 60% of the electricity nationwide is produced by using coal. Coal arrives mainly by
a barge, but also by rail and truck. Barges typically deliver around 1,500 tons of coal, which is
enough to keep a plant running for a couple of hours. A plant uses around 21,000 tons of coal
each day, so over 1,000,000 tons of coal is stockpiled next to the plant. A device called a stacker
reclaimer scoops coal onto a quarter mile long conveyor that can transport up to 900 tons of coal
into the plant each hour. Once inside the plant, up to a thirty hour supply of coal can be stored in
bunkers. Coal moves from the bunkers to feeders to be measured and moved to pulverizers. Coal
enters the pulverizer and spins in a large drum where hundreds of steel balls grind it into a fine
powder. Now a fine powder, the coal leaves the pulverizers and heads to the boiler. About 335 tons
of coal can be pulverized per hour. Large fans add warm air to the powdery coal and blow it into
the boiler. The boiler has miles of tubes filled with high quality water. Once

Power for Women in Alcestis and Hippolytus Essay example
Is it feasible that through the loss of one s life and being, one would be able to gain influence and
power? Does this fatal gain of power show a previous lack of it? Does forgoing one s life for an
honorable cause improve a woman s reputation in turn giving her more power? Through our studies,
we have discovered that typically women exhibit a limited amount of agency in ancient Greece.
Women occasionally assert dominance in the household; although, even within the home they
posses limited influence over their husbands. An interesting theme runs though Euripides theatrical
tragedies Alcestis and Hippolytus. In each play the lead female characterforgoes her life for the sake

(Oeconomicus) Therefore, it is with great regard that men and women uphold the public s opinion
of them. Furthermore, the women of Euripides tragedies are expected to withhold both their
individual reputation and the reputation of the household. The importance of withholding one s
reputation is stated in each of these tragedies. Admentus shows the importance when in Alcestis he
says, What have I gained by living, friends, when reputation, life and action are all bad (960).
Phaedra reemphasizes the importance of reputation in her speech, It would always be my choice
to have my virtues known and honored. So when I do wrong I could not endure to see a circle of
condemning witnesses (402 404). Consequently, reputation is a highly influential factor in society
and it is desirable to uphold one s reputation.
In the eye of a condemning society, Alcestis improves her reputation through the valiant way she
gives her own life for her husband. She courageously does what none of his family members,
even his elderly father would do, willingly gives up her life for her husband, for not one, except
his wife, would consent to die for him, and not see daylight any more (17). This act showed loyalty,
dedication, and love, all desirable feminine characteristics. At her death bed Alcestis shows how her
reputation will improve pending her noble death:

6. Inland Taipan
This snake has the most venom, more than any other snake in the world. If left untreated, the death

Urban Poverty in China
Over the past two decades, China has experienced rapid economic growth, which has also brought
about a rise in social and economic inequality. A nation that once operated under the principle of
egalitarianism, China now struggles with a level of inequality that has surpassed most of its East
Asia neighbours. In the 1980 s, povertywas a problem restricted mainly to rural areas, but recently
it has forayed into urban areas as well. Since the mid 1990 s, urban poverty has grown at a very fast
pace under the influence of globalization (Fulong, Webster, and Yuting 5). The economic
restructuring of China is a huge contributor to this phenomenon. The Chinese government officially
recognized urban poverty as a problem in 2001 through a report... Show more content on

The earliest of these attempts was by expanding higher education, which succeeded in
matriculation, but did not provide sufficient stimulus towards consumption as families opted to
save for higher education. The attempt to commercialize the housing market also ended up in a
similar scenario, as families opted to increase their savings in order to afford the higher prices
charged for apartments (Riskin and Qin 25). The urban poverty problem arises from the disparity
between lack of income growth and massive growth in social wealth (Fulong, Webster, and Yuting
37). In order to remedy this problem, the government should not develop policies targeting only the
poor; instead, it should ensure that there exists a resource framework that is not only adequate for
rich and middle class needs, but one that is accessible to everyone. A strategic readjustment that
ensures commensurate growth in both social and economic wealth would be highly beneficial to
the people (Wanlong and Wong 26). The growth of incomes for residents should be strengthened
and should also be accompanied by reforms in state owned corporations.
One of the ways to remedy the consumption problem is through a rise in income levels and
implementation of reforms in monopolized state owned industries to bring about income
redistribution. Income redistribution is a government role that can be attained through proper fiscal
policies like tax reforms to ensure a balanced and fair

George Wilhelm Friedrich and the French Revolution Essay
George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel was a German Philosopher who was born in Stuttgart in 1770.
As a young man, he studied theology, but was also impelled to explore philosophy due to the
upheaval of this treacherous time in history. The Reign of Terror and French Revolution had a
huge impact on Germany and Europe, and Hegel became caught up in the fervor and outrage of
the period and wanted to take a deeper look at the events that were occurring. His look and analysis
of the French Revolution is what began his reflection of history.
After graduation from the seminary, Hegel joined the faculty of the University of Jena, the
philosophic center of Germany. While there, he wrote Phenomenology of Spirit, his first major
book. Hegel left the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Original historians relied heavily upon the writings of other contemporaries, because it would be
impossible for them to have seen everything that occurred at once. Original history is where we get
direct accounts of legend, folklore, and traditions because a person would have to have been there
to truly know about these. The great advantage that original historians have over the others is that
they lived through and were shaped by the events as they unfolded. They can descriptively write
about them from their experience, as opposed to a historian writing accounts based on the writings
of others hundreds of years later. Hegel said of these historians, The influences that have formed the
writer are identical with those which have moulded the events that constitute the matter of his story.
The author s spirit, and that of the actions he narrates, is one and the same (www.marxists.org).
The second kind of history described in Hegel s Philosophy of History, Reflective history, is written
after the time period being described has passed. These historians endeavor to show connections
between and reasons for historical events. Hegel distinguishes four types of Reflective History:
Universal, Pragmatic, Critical, and Specialized.
Universal history attempts to cover and describe a long period of time and gives an overview of,
for example, an entire people or entire nations. This type of history is broad and represents general

The Theatre Of The Absurd Analysis
The Theatre of the Absurd is a collection of plays written after World War II that were considered
of having ridiculous and random ideals. Many of these plays came from Europe, including
Rhinoceros by Ionesco. In Rhinoceros, the main character Berenger is a man who is not keeping
up with himself and is having a midlife crisis. Everyone else in the town is living a normal life
when the townspeople start to turn into rhinoceroses. With his differentness and being so out of
place, he is the only one left as a human over a rhinoceros. Now that Berenger wants to be like
everyone else and turn into a rhinoceros, he cannot because of his major differences. In the play,
Rhinoceros, different aspects of the Theatre of the Absurdcome through in the crazy storyline
created by Ionesco. No communication and no logic are two of the aspects of the absurdwriting
concepts during this time period. One of the absurd aspects of no communication is found through
the lines of the play.
No communication is one of the absurdist aspects in the play Rhinoceros that reoccurs throughout
the storyline. Towards the beginning of the play, the characters find that a rhinoceros is trampling
through the town. The housewife finds that her cat has been trampled on by the strange creature,
and is very upset. She wails to the others: It ran over my cat, it ran over my cat! (Ionesco 26).
Everyone responds back to her: Poor little thing! (Ionesco 26). Even though the cat has been

In various forms of literature there is theme. The theme is the central idea of the story that is

the theme of success. Success is the achievement of an intention that was planned or attempted.
Success not only requires bravery and courage, but hard work and determination. The theme of

The poem takes place in a time of war. The poem expresses the feeling of those who are in the
occurring battle, and how they wish to achieve victory over their enemies. The figurative language
and imagery of the poem makes clear how much they want to achieve success. The lines Success is
counted sweetest / By those who ne er succeed. (1 2) in simple words, means that those who do
not often achieve success, appreciate it more than those who achieve it more than others. These
first two lines of the poem also depict how people tend to desire things more deeply when they
do not have them. The following lines To comprehend a nectar / Requires sorest need (3 4),

which is a symbol of triumph and luxury. Secondly Success which is best grasped by someone
who needs it, someone who wants it and will try to get it at all cost. The defeated, dying man

Why Was The Peloponnesian War Inevitable
Good morning/afternoon students. Today I am going to be talking about the Peloponnesian war and
why it was inevitable.
The Peloponnesian war was fought between the two city states in ancient Greece, being Athens and
Sparta. These two cities had alliances that, between them, included close to every Greek city state.
The Peloponnesian war was inevitable because Athens was too hungry for power, and tried to take
total control of Greece. Athens s growth in military and economic power led to the beginning of a
bloody war.
Athens and Sparta were both dominant powers in ancient Greece. However, a legendary rivalry
existed between the two. When Athens ended its alliance with Corcyra in 433 B.C. and began to
surround Potidaea, it threatened Corinth s position. Sparta feared that Athens was becoming too
powerful and tried to avert war. The Spartans believed that peace was possible if the Athenians
would revoke measures against Sparta s ally, Megara. The Athenian leader, Pericles, refused to
concur with this because Sparta and Athens had earlier agreed that conflicts would be solved by
negotiation. If the Athenians would yield to Sparta s request, they would in fact be accepting
Sparta s orders. This was unacceptable, and as a result, war broke out. Athens and its Delian
League were attacked by Sparta and its Peloponnesian League. Diodorus mentions that the Spartans
did not just declare war, but sought additional support from Persia.
The Peloponnesian War changed Greece and nothing was the same after the war. Athens was
never to be as powerful again. As a result of the war, the Athenian Empire was never the same
again because of the change in the balance of power in the Greek world. This greatly alarmed
Sparta and its allies. The aggressive policies of Athens did not de escalate the situation whilst the
ambitions of the city state certainly provoked the Spartans. Increasingly, the Spartans became very
nervous about the growing naval and commercial power of Athens.
Pericles would have been willing to negotiate had not the slow moving but deliberate Spartans
backed him into a corner with their ultimatum. The outbreak of the war occurred when the Spartans
issued ultimatums to Athens, which the men of the Athenian

Langston Hughes Tales Of Simple And The Symbolic Undertone
Tales of Simple and the Symbolic Undertone
Langston Hughes is considered to be one of the most well known poets/writers in the modern era.
One of his most notable works was a series of fictional short stories called Tales of Simple. In
these tales, Hughes uses symbolism to express his feelings and views on African Americanhistory
through the character Jesse B. Semple. In literary terms, the word symbolism is defined as being a
person, object or event that suggests more than its literal meaning. In Langston Hughes Tales of
Simple , the author uses the main character s name, feet and view on a type of Jazz music to
symbolize the life of an African American and the effect of slavery, discrimination and racism on
blacks. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The point Hughes makes was that a black man during that time was focused on work and
providing for himself and his family. And work was done while standing. Hughes shows that the
true tale of an African American was at the physical foundation of a person: the feet. The
symbolic nature of Simples feet goes beyond the mindset of African Americans at that time.
Hughes uses Simple s feet to symbolize the poverty experienced by blacks. These feet have
walked ten thousand miles working for white folks and another ten thousand keeping up with the
colored. These feet have stood at altars, crap tables, free lunches, bars, graves, kitchen doors,
betting windows, hospital clinics, WPA desks, social security railings, and in all kinds of lines
from soup lines to the draft. (100)
As the title of the tale states, Simple s feet do have their own life. Not only do Simple s feet
showcase the thousands of miles working for white folks, but they also tell the tales of where he
has been when not working. All of the aforementioned places are either associated with poverty or
things viewed as aid by society. Hughes uses this to symbolize the negative connotation attached to
African Americans because of the poverty most encountered at the time. Langston Hughes
symbolizes the life of hard labor lived by a black man through the continued reference to Simple s
feet: The corns I ve cut away would dull a German razor. The bunions I forgot would make you
ache from now

The United States of America s economy and military is far too involved in foreign affairs. Foreign
affairs are policies of a government in dealing with other countries or with activities overseas,
government offices or departments. The United States has always been involved in Foreign affairs
since its creation. Although foreign affairs are vital for the sake of the United States of America,
the nation is becoming part of relationships and disputes that it should not be. There are many

Many people ask whether or not the nation is too involved in foreign affairs. There are many
arguments for both sides of the dilemma, but one side poses more evidence than the other. The
United States is far too involved around the world through its economy and military dealings with
other countries and organizations.
The United States economy has always been a major part of the world economy as a whole.
Through the United States borrowing money and buying imports to the United States bailing out
big global companies and exporting goods all around the world. Without imports, the United
States would not have many of the goods that we do. On the same hand, if the United States did
not export goods, other countries would not have necessary products. We export and import
everything from petroleum products to grains and food products that feed the world. Yes, it is
good that the United States is involved in foreign affairs such as global trade, because not only
the United States depends on it, but the countries that the United States exports to depend on
United States products. The United States brings in millions of dollars from selling exports such
as corn, soybeans, and cash crops such as tobacco. But because of the global trade market being a
two way street, the United States imports a lot of goods. Due to that, the United States economy is
spending more than it can afford. It has amassed a very large debt. The

How Does Energy Affect Our Safety Through Our National...
Looking for apartments and being on my own for the first time brought to my attention how
expensive energy bills can be. I was determined to research a way to save on energy and cut
down my bills. While looking through the solutions I came across an intriguing discovery. Over
the years energy efficiency has become an epidemic, whether it affects global warming or
protecting the environment, saving money or improving the economy; conserving energy has a lot
more to it than many people will ever know. Everything we do requires energy. There is heat
energy, light energy, mechanical energy, electrical energy, chemical energy, nuclear energy, and so
on. The fact that I was most intrigued by is that energy plays a big part in our national... Show more

As you can see the federal government deals with any crisis that arrives in our country to protect its
citizens. A crisis could occur at any moment in our lives and National Securityis here for our
protection. Now that we know what National security is and what it has to do with our everyday
lives, I d like to explain what national security has to do with energy. I mentioned that one of the
branches of our national security is the security of natural resources and energy. By the word
energy is meant the power of doing work; and the energy which a laboring man possesses means,
in the strictly physical sense, the number of units which he is capable of accomplishing, (Stewart,
647). Since man require such energy to do work, it is important that a group focus solely on
energy security. Energy and natural resources can consist of materials we use in our everyday
lives; water, sources of energy such as the wind and sun, fossil fuel, land, and power. As of 2011,
the US has been one of the world s largest energy consumers (Sovacool). Sovacool also describes
energy security as equitably providing available, affordable, reliable, efficient, environmentally
benign, properly governed and socially acceptable energy services to customers.
We now know that energy security is one of the more important branches of national security, but

current state of the company s profitability and what the company is doing to be a socially
responsible organization.
First, I completed a thorough review of the company s current business practices and conducted
several focus groups with employees to discuss their top five ideas and suggestions for improving
their productivity, commitment to the company and overall job satisfaction. The results of these
activities produced several areas of focus SmartShoes senior management team should look at.

Several responses indicated that they felt ill prepared to provide a high level of productivity.
Particularly when they first joined the company. Still others indicated they felt that they had limited
opportunities for career advancement. As a result of this employees become frustrated and either
leave the company or if they stay become increasingly frustrated, which can result in lost
productivity and poor performance. Which will eventually lead to less than stellar product
development and ultimately a loss in revenue.
By implementing a training program for new staff, can start their jobs with some idea of what they
re supposed to do and how to do it (Section 7. Developing Training Programs for Staff, n.d.)
Additionally, it can show new employees the company is serious about what it does, and therefore
encourage them to be serious about it, too. A solid training program can also significantly reduce
mistakes that cost the organization loss of revenue, production times, and the reputation of their
products (Section 7. Developing Training Programs for Staff, n.d.)
For existing employees a training program also has numerous benefits: It will help them to
continually improve their knowledge, skill sets and keep them fully engaged in their work.
For all of the reasons I ve detailed I believe the implementation of these ideas will result is
improving employee morale, productivity, loyalty

Reservation Blues Summary
In the story of reservation blues by sherman alexie the opening chapter starts off with the literary
device of foreshadowing. In the one hundred and eleven years since the creation of the spokane
indian reservation in 1881, not one person, indian or otherwise, had arrived there by accident.
Wellpinit, the only town the reservation, did not exist on most maps, so the black stranger
surprised the whole tribe when he appeared with nothing more than the suit he wore and guitar
slung over his back. (pg.1 Alexie, S. (2014). Reservation blues. Grove Press) The opening scene
in this chapter gave me the feel of an mystical spooky setting. This lead me to believe that this

The biggest impact throughout this whole story to me was the guitar. The guitar took a huge
toll on its owners life. It led the owner into temptations of fame and the sacrifices that must be
made to retrieve it. The guitar being an instrument also acts like its own person. It gives off a
grand amount of negative energy. I feel as if sherman alexie used his text to put across a point of
how people cherish fame and fortune too much. His story put off that cheaters never win feel.
The overall theme i recieved from this book is the power of music.he connects it through all
characters in the book. i would say that because of How he used his characters Robert and Victor
they both wanted to be the best blues players in the world they seeked it so much that they were
willing to give up their souls for it. Not knowing the mistake they ve made is where the cheaters

  • 2. Aversive Effects of Ethanol in Adolescent vs. Adult Rats Researchers Nicole L. Schramm Sapyta, Alexandra DiFeliceantonio, and Cynthia M. Kuhn (2010), conducted the study of Aversive Effects of Ethanol in Adolescent vs. Adult Rats , looking to address two key questions: Number one, do reduced aversive effects of ethanol in younger rats correlate with increased ethanol consumption? and second, are the reduced aversive effects in adolescents attributable to reduced sensitivity to ethanol s physiological effects? A sample of adolescent and adult male CD rats (outbred Sprague Dawley derived strain) were obtained from Charles River Laboratories (Raleigh, NC), and maintained in a temperature vivarium standard of 12:12 light dark cycle throughout the experiement. Before the experiment could begin, it was vital to find out which of the 94 rats formed a conditioned taste for ethanol, this was achieved with aversion therapy whereby the rats were deprived of water for 24 hours, and then given 15 minute acccess to a water bottle the next day, this was then repeated but the water was

  • 4. Jerry Weintraub s American Dream This is the story of Jerry Weintraub, a man who mastered the art of the schmooze and had an eye for talent like none other. Jerry Weintraub spent over half of his life in show business earning himself the reputation of Hollywood s smooth talker, deal maker, and show headliner. By establishing legendary acts into mainstream media such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, John Denver, Brad Pitt, and films such as The Karate Kid and Ocean s Eleven, Weintraub catapulted himself to fame and riches by the age of 26. Soon enough, he worked his way up to being a producer and talent agent where he crossed paths with the great Frank Sinatra. Sinatra was one of Weintraub s greatest act and takes up a large section of this book. A wild idea at the time, but Jerry handled his depression in the best way he could which was creating a show. This turned out to be his greatest concert. This particular anecdote teaches a lesson of having a connection to your work and visualizing failure and turning it around. Along came the highlight of Jerry s career and perhaps the greatest takeaway of When I Stop Talking You ll Know I m Dead and a story that attracts many to reading this novel. Elvis was in the prime of his career and had the country astir with his flashy larger than life persona. Jerry knew he could take this larger to life act and make it even bigger:I started to call... every morning at 8:30 in the morning. He was always up at 6:00 o clock in the morning. • 12. The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act Essay The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which originally began as the Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975 (EHA), was created to ensure a free and appropriate public education to children with disabilities. This policy was implemented in an effort to provide equal access to education for all. Prior to 1975, the needs of children with disabilities were highly overlooked. According to the Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (2010), U.S. schools educated only one in five children with disabilities, and many states had laws excluding certain students from school, including children who were deaf, blind, emotionally disturbed, or mentally retarded. The discrimination and lack of educational rights of children with disabilities was a vast social problem and detrimental to the lives and worth of children with disabilities and their families. The EHA s name was officially changed to IDEA in 1990, and throughout the years, there have been many more improvements and amendments made to the policy, the latest amendment being in 2004. Some of the main requirements of the IDEA are for schools to focus on specialized individual educational needs of children, through the use of Individualized Education Programs (IEP), and placing children in a Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) when possible where they can be included with non disabled classmates. Though it may seem he is speaking directly to the children, he uses horatian satire to address the parents and express what he believes to be the problems of how they are raising their children. Children are being raised to always do the right thing, though their parents know they will eventually make mistakes. Twain was trying to change this approach in parenting. Instead of teaching children to be superior, the children should be taught how to be a successful adult. All children are going to disobey, lie, and make mistakes. Mark Twain s satirical approach is meant to show parents that children should be prepared to be an adult, instead of having to learn everything the hard way. In Advice to Youth Twain uses techniques like irony, reversal, and understatement to subtly hint that parenting needs to change. People such as Martin Luther and John Calvin, were unhappy with how the church was being run created their own religions. Radiation Quantity And Units Essay Radiation quantity and units Most scientists in the international community measure radiation using the System International (SI), a uniform system of weights and measures that evolved from the metric system. In the United States, however, the conventional system of measurement is still widely used. 2.2.1) Units of Radioactivity: The original unit for measuring the amount of radioactivity was the curie (Ci) first defined to correspond to one gram of radium 226 and more recently defined as: 1 curie = 3.7x1010 radioactive decays per second. In the International System of Units (SI) the curie has been replaced by the Becquerel (Bq), where One Ci is equal to 37 billion (37 X 109) Bq. Ci or Bq may be used to refer to the amount of radioactive materials released into the environment. 2.2.2) Radiation exposure unit: The exposure rate defined as the exposure per unit time. The special unit of exposure is the roentgen (R) defined as the amount of gamma ray and X ray radiation that produced a charge of 1 electrostatic unit (esu) of charge per 0.001293 g (1cm3) of dry air at standard temperature and pressure (IAEA, 1989). In fact, many justices struggled with how to make sense of the ruling and how it could be applied in both similar and different contexts. • 20. Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Diabetes is caused when a person s blood sugar level becomes too high. This is often described as a lifelong condition. There are two types of Diabetes within the UK; Type 1 Diabetes, where the body s immune system attacks and destroys the cells that the body uses to produce insulin. This can develop over weeks or even days. Type 2 Diabetes occurs when the body doesn t produce enough insulinor the body s cells do not react to insulin. Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. Many people can suffer from type 2 Diabetes for many years without realising due to symptoms being so broad. Many people have blood sugarlevels above the normal rate. This suggests that there is a risk of developing full diabetes in the future. • 21. Analysis Of The Book Diary Of A Madman Lu Xun was one of the first prominent writers of modern china. He uses an ironic technique in the preface by writing in classical Chinese language to suggest a false, friendly world made exclusively by social appearances. The traditional Chinese text is typically seen as superior, and as per the Chinese traditions the modern language is seen as an intruder. The author s use of the style was a way of making a point. Diary of a Madman is a short story written by Lu Xun and was published in the new youth magazine in 1918 (231). The story demonstrates his discontent with traditional Chinese culture, not only by the fact that it clearly addresses the horror of cannibalism that is believed to have occurred but he is also trying to point out the oppressive nature of Confucian principles. In the short novel, the madman has the ability to recognize the cruel elements of Chinese Confucian culture that serves to mock established but out dated traditional scholarship. In the story Diary of a Madman, the protagonist of the diary talks about his how he thinks other people perceive him. He sees that the individuals are giving him abnormal looks; as though they were attempting to scare him or as though he had perpetrated some serious crime. And then, he pursued, I am cold: no fervor infects me. Whereas I am hot, and fire dissolves ice. The blaze there has thawed all the snow from your cloak (416). While St. John and Jane can be quite similar in their stubbornness and their passion for what they believe in, St. John is cold, and acts completely on logic and what he believes is right, while Jane has impulsive tendencies and thinks one should balance emotion with spiritual morals. His words have an undeniable ability to sway a crowd s emotions and truly affect them. His plays are timeless pieces of art considered the foundations of English literature. Shakespeare s most dramatic and infamous tragedy, Hamlet, has earned its place as a cornerstone. In the play, Shakespeare poetically writes speeches that reveal the true colours of the characters, whether good or devious. Those living during Shakespeare s times, the Elizabethans, were the first to witness Claudius deception and were able to fully appreciate the play. Claudius conversation with Gertrude in Act 4, Scene 5 of Hamlet effectively targets the Elizabethan audience through the clever use of literary tools and the connections to aspects of Elizabethan society. If one were to be asked where it comes from, you would most likely get responses from all over, with a common response being, Out of the sockets in the wall! In this paper I will be giving a very brief overview of how electricity is produced, specifically from coal. Generating electricity requires a fuel source, and the fuel source for both EKP and DP L is coal. About 60% of the electricity nationwide is produced by using coal. Coal arrives mainly by a barge, but also by rail and truck. Barges typically deliver around 1,500 tons of coal, which is enough to keep a plant running for a couple of hours. A plant uses around 21,000 tons of coal each day, so over 1,000,000 tons of coal is stockpiled next to the plant. A device called a stacker reclaimer scoops coal onto a quarter mile long conveyor that can transport up to 900 tons of coal into the plant each hour. Once inside the plant, up to a thirty hour supply of coal can be stored in bunkers. Coal moves from the bunkers to feeders to be measured and moved to pulverizers. Coal enters the pulverizer and spins in a large drum where hundreds of steel balls grind it into a fine powder. Now a fine powder, the coal leaves the pulverizers and heads to the boiler. About 335 tons of coal can be pulverized per hour. Large fans add warm air to the powdery coal and blow it into the boiler. The boiler has miles of tubes filled with high quality water. Once ... Admentus shows the importance when in Alcestis he says, What have I gained by living, friends, when reputation, life and action are all bad (960). • 42. Urban Poverty in China Over the past two decades, China has experienced rapid economic growth, which has also brought about a rise in social and economic inequality. A nation that once operated under the principle of egalitarianism, China now struggles with a level of inequality that has surpassed most of its East Asia neighbours. In the 1980 s, povertywas a problem restricted mainly to rural areas, but recently it has forayed into urban areas as well. Since the mid 1990 s, urban poverty has grown at a very fast pace under the influence of globalization (Fulong, Webster, and Yuting 5). The economic restructuring of China is a huge contributor to this phenomenon. The Chinese government officially recognized urban poverty as a problem in 2001 through a report... The earliest of these attempts was by expanding higher education, which succeeded in matriculation, but did not provide sufficient stimulus towards consumption as families opted to save for higher education. The attempt to commercialize the housing market also ended up in a similar scenario, as families opted to increase their savings in order to afford the higher prices charged for apartments (Riskin and Qin 25). The urban poverty problem arises from the disparity between lack of income growth and massive growth in social wealth (Fulong, Webster, and Yuting 37). In order to remedy this problem, the government should not develop policies targeting only the poor; instead, it should ensure that there exists a resource framework that is not only adequate for rich and middle class needs, but one that is accessible to everyone. A strategic readjustment that ensures commensurate growth in both social and economic wealth would be highly beneficial to the people (Wanlong and Wong 26). The growth of incomes for residents should be strengthened and should also be accompanied by reforms in state owned corporations. One of the ways to remedy the consumption problem is through a rise in income levels and implementation of reforms in monopolized state owned industries to bring about income redistribution. Income redistribution is a government role that can be attained through proper fiscal policies like tax reforms to ensure a balanced and fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a young man, he studied theology, but was also impelled to explore philosophy due to the upheaval of this treacherous time in history. The Reign of Terror and French Revolution had a huge impact on Germany and Europe, and Hegel became caught up in the fervor and outrage of the period and wanted to take a deeper look at the events that were occurring. Original historians relied heavily upon the writings of other contemporaries, because it would be impossible for them to have seen everything that occurred at once. Original history is where we get direct accounts of legend, folklore, and traditions because a person would have to have been there to truly know about these. The great advantage that original historians have over the others is that they lived through and were shaped by the events as they unfolded. They can descriptively write about them from their experience, as opposed to a historian writing accounts based on the writings of others hundreds of years later. Hegel said of these historians, The influences that have formed the writer are identical with those which have moulded the events that constitute the matter of his story. The author s spirit, and that of the actions he narrates, is one and the same (www.marxists.org). The second kind of history described in Hegel s Philosophy of History, Reflective history, is written after the time period being described has passed. These historians endeavor to show connections between and reasons for historical events. Hegel distinguishes four types of Reflective History: Universal, Pragmatic, Critical, and Specialized. • 49. Why Was The Peloponnesian War Inevitable Good morning/afternoon students. Today I am going to be talking about the Peloponnesian war and why it was inevitable. The Peloponnesian war was fought between the two city states in ancient Greece, being Athens and Sparta. These two cities had alliances that, between them, included close to every Greek city state. The Peloponnesian war was inevitable because Athens was too hungry for power, and tried to take total control of Greece. Athens s growth in military and economic power led to the beginning of a bloody war. Athens and Sparta were both dominant powers in ancient Greece. However, a legendary rivalry existed between the two. When Athens ended its alliance with Corcyra in 433 B.C. and began to surround Potidaea, it threatened Corinth s position. Sparta feared that Athens was becoming too powerful and tried to avert war. The Spartans believed that peace was possible if the Athenians would revoke measures against Sparta s ally, Megara. The Athenian leader, Pericles, refused to concur with this because Sparta and Athens had earlier agreed that conflicts would be solved by negotiation. If the Athenians would yield to Sparta s request, they would in fact be accepting Sparta s orders. This was unacceptable, and as a result, war broke out. Athens and its Delian League were attacked by Sparta and its Peloponnesian League. Diodorus mentions that the Spartans did not just declare war, but sought additional support from Persia. The Peloponnesian War changed Greece and nothing was the same after the war. Athens was never to be as powerful again. As a result of the war, the Athenian Empire was never the same again because of the change in the balance of power in the Greek world. This greatly alarmed Sparta and its allies. The aggressive policies of Athens did not de escalate the situation whilst the ambitions of the city state certainly provoked the Spartans. Increasingly, the Spartans became very nervous about the growing naval and commercial power of Athens. Pericles would have been willing to negotiate had not the slow moving but deliberate Spartans backed him into a corner with their ultimatum. The outbreak of the war occurred when the Spartans issued ultimatums to Athens, which the men of the Athenian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Langston Hughes Tales Of Simple And The Symbolic Undertone Tales of Simple and the Symbolic Undertone Langston Hughes is considered to be one of the most well known poets/writers in the modern era. One of his most notable works was a series of fictional short stories called Tales of Simple. In these tales, Hughes uses symbolism to express his feelings and views on African Americanhistory through the character Jesse B. Semple. In literary terms, the word symbolism is defined as being a person, object or event that suggests more than its literal meaning. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The point Hughes makes was that a black man during that time was focused on work and providing for himself and his family. And work was done while standing. Hughes shows that the true tale of an African American was at the physical foundation of a person: the feet. The symbolic nature of Simples feet goes beyond the mindset of African Americans at that time. Hughes uses Simple s feet to symbolize the poverty experienced by blacks. These feet have walked ten thousand miles working for white folks and another ten thousand keeping up with the colored. These feet have stood at altars, crap tables, free lunches, bars, graves, kitchen doors, betting windows, hospital clinics, WPA desks, social security railings, and in all kinds of lines from soup lines to the draft. (100) As the title of the tale states, Simple s feet do have their own life. Not only do Simple s feet showcase the thousands of miles working for white folks, but they also tell the tales of where he has been when not working. All of the aforementioned places are either associated with poverty or things viewed as aid by society. Hughes uses this to symbolize the negative connotation attached to African Americans because of the poverty most encountered at the time. I mentioned that one of the branches of our national security is the security of natural resources and energy. By the word energy is meant the power of doing work; and the energy which a laboring man possesses means, in the strictly physical sense, the number of units which he is capable of accomplishing, (Stewart, 647).
