Tips for Creating
An “About” Page for a
Website
CRWE
ITESO
Robert Wilks
Why it is important
An About or About Us page is where the world clicks to learn
about your company or organization and what you do or
have to offer.
• Your About page should answer the Five Ws:
• Who are you?
• What do you do?
• When did you start doing what you’re doing?
• Where are you?
• How are you accomplishing what you claim to do?
Make the Human Connection
• Focus on connecting with your site visitors.
• Your about page will help you build relationships. Your
followers, sponsors, clients, etc. want to know you, like you,
and trust you.
Some possible kinds of
information that can be
found on an
“About Us” page
• Basic description of what the
organization does
• Graphics showing product / service /
activities
• History (possibly making it personal)
• Mission
• Accomplishments
• Testimonials
• Location
• Organizational structure
• Names / bios of top director(s) in the
company
• Contact information: address, phone,
email, Facebook, Twitter, etc., or link
to a separate Contact Us page.
One common form of organization: the Inverted Pyramid
• This is a writing style where you start with the most important /
general information, and then you work your way down to more
detailed information. Web users are impatient and want to see the
basics first.
Look at lots of examples
Browse the web and
look at the websites of
companies or
organizations that are
similar to yours.
Look at the lists of
About Us pages and
other information
posted on Moodle.
