MODULE 4 THINKING ROUTINES LAURA VILAR
Title of the
thinking routine
Creative Questions
A routine for generating and transforming questions
Explanation We are going to work this routine at the end of the unit, in this case "the
logotypes”.
Normally the student is playing his role: learn of the professionals. In this case
the student will change his role: he is going to judge a professional work, in this
unit a logotype.
This routine encourages to create questions that interest to the pupils around
a image, object or topic. In this case it will be around a logotype, the
company’s image. So the teacher can observe the pupil interests around this
image and if its questions are different of the core questions of the unit. If this
core questions don’t appear, the teacher can drive the class to find these.
Then we are going to use these questions to transform the logotype analyzed.
What are going to change to improve it, to reflect a different product or if
changes the kind of customer...
Every pupil will transform one of the logotypes to answer one of the questions.
(These will be given in digital format, so it will make the task easier).
Finally we are going to reflect around the results all the class together and the
teacher can see if the pupil applies the knowledge acquired.
This thinking routine increases the curiosity, the motivation and the self-
confidence of the student.
They have the knowledge of the unit and they can apply it by increasing a
professional work, so they can feel as a professional, they have the tools and
the resources to make it possible.
Resources · For the teacher: Link to information about the routine
· For the student:
- Laptop with wifi connection and image editing program.
- File of the logotype and aim for change it.
How are you
going to use it?
We can do this thinking routine at the end of every unit as application of the
knowledge acquired. This routine can be made in one session.
Firstly we are going to do the brainstorming of questions about the logotypes
with the whole group. This is going to take fifteen minutes more or less. Then
the teacher will give the logotype file and the goal of transformation to every
pupil and will let thirty minutes to change the logotype. They work individually
but the class distribution is by groups (4 or 5 pupils) and they can be helped by
the classmates.
Then we put all the results together and reflect around this in the last fifteen
minutes.
