TASK 2
Using Cooperative Learning in your Unit Plan.
Once you have clear ideas about your topic it is time to think how are you going to teach it and
work with your students. Complete the following chart to introduce Cooperative Learning.
You are going to describe how are you going to organize your students in the class: pairs,
groups of three or four, whole group, ……
And then you have to choose two cooperative learning techniques you will introduce into your
unit and tell us how you are going to work with them: what task are you going to use using
them.
Class Organization:
I organize my students in groups of four. Sometimes they work together and sometimes
they work in pairs. We use the whole group organization when I have to explain something
to all the students and the listening activities are individual.
Cooperative Learning Technique 1:
1-2-4
Students have to do an exercise and then, they have to compare their answers with their
shoulder partner. Finally, this pair have to compare their answers with the other pair in their
group.
Task you are going to work:
Students have to complete an exercise about different bodies of water. They have some
pictures showing bodies of water and they have to write its name below the pictures. First
of all, they have to complete on their own. Then, in pairs, they have to compare their
answers. Finally, in group, they compare their answers again. To compare their answers,
they have to ask: Which body of water is this? Or What can you see in this picture?

Cooperative Learning Technique 2:
Team Mind Mapping.
Each team has to fill the gaps in a mind map with some words given by the teacher. In turns,
each student choose a word to fill one gap and explain to the rest of the team the reasons. If
all the members of the team agree, all of them write the word in the gap.
Task you are going to work:
Students have to complete a mind map about changes in the state of water together. They
have the incomplete mind map, the missing words and a text to find the information.
