This document discusses effective teamwork and communication. It states that effective teams have clear goals, committed members who work cooperatively, share information, complete tasks, and meet standards. Team members must also be flexible, actively listen to others, contribute ideas, set aside personal goals, and respect others. For successful communication, team members need to clearly share information and opinions. They should express ideas calmly and respectfully. When working as a team on an assessment, students will be evaluated on listening, clear communication, asking questions, being helpful, resolving conflicts, organization, and completing tasks. They will complete a team-building activity to construct a paper robot and write a follow-up report.
2. Effective Teams

Is clear about the goals of the group
Is committed to the group
Works co-operatively

Works to an agreed standard
3. Effective Teams
Effective teams are also ones in which everyone
Is flexible
Willing to actively listen to the ideas of
others
Contributes ideas and suggestions
Is able to put aside personal goals
Respects the ideas and values of other
members
4. Communicating effectively in teams
For teams to work successfully people in
the team need to communicate their
opinions and ideas in a clear and concise
manner
All team members should also make sure
that they share information that will help
others to get things done.
This can be referred to as positive
communication
5. Positive communication skills
For a team to work effectively, it’s
essential that team members have
the skills to communicate
positively.
By communicating positively co-
workers need to be able to express
their ideas and concerns in a clear
and calm manner.
6. Communication styles
When we think about communication
styles the 3 most common we refer to
include:
Passive
Assertive
Aggressive
7. PASSIVE
Passive communicators tend to
let others have their way as they
don't let others know how they
are feeling or what they are
thinking.
8. ASSERTIVE
The most effective communication style
to use is to be assertive. This allows you
to express your ideas and concerns in a
manner, which will engage the listener
and can lead into developing strategies
for your suggestions to be
put into actions.
9. AGGRESSIVE
Aggressive communicators use force or
intimidation to get what they want.
They don't appear to care what others
want and demand that their ideas are
heard and acted upon.
10. Activity 1
