Definition Essay On Ghetto
Definition of Ghetto The word Ghetto is a term that is used to describe where a person is from, or the
type of person they are. All around the world the word ghetto is used, and all around the world it has
the same negative meaning. Mostly a derogatory word to some, but to others ghetto is a word of pride
and respect in the streets. It s a word loosely used among younger individuals to identify where they
are from, or the type of lifestyle they live. In I was a member of the King Fu Crew , Henry Han Xi
Lau uses the word ghetto to describe the area in which he grew up, personal appearance, and writing
techniques used to describe ghetto in his essay. Lau uses a couple of self definitions of how he defines
the word ghetto and what it means to him. In paragraph ten, Lau begins to describe part of what the
word ghetto means, we sit and talk about ghettoness again. We can never exactly articulate what being
ghetto entails, but we know the spirit of it. In Chinatown s toilet facilities we sometimes find
footprints on the seats because of F.O.B. s (fresh off the boat) squat over the toilets like they hover

Describe The Differences Between The Axis And The Allies
The axis and the allies were two alliances or sides from the WW1. They both had different points of
view of what was right, that s why the war started in first place. The axis were also called the central
powers or the triple alliance, it was composed of Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy at first. The
allies were also called the triple entente it was composed of France, UK, and Russia.
Axis was a military alliance, and it lasted from 20th may 1882 until WW1 1914. Some of the leaders
of Axis were from Austria Hungary Franz Joseph I, he was the emperor of Austria Hungary at the
time. From Germany Wilhelm II, he was the German Emperor at the time, and from the Ottoman
Empire was Mehmed V, he was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire. The Allies alliance started in 1914
at the beginning of WW1 and ended in 1918. Some of the leaders in the Triple Entente or Allies were:
from the Russian Empire Nicolas II, he was the last tsar of Russia; he died in war in July 17 1918.
From France Raymond Poincaré, he was the French president at the moment he was diseased in 1920.

At first the Triple Alliance was formed by Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy, but when the war
started Italy backed down from that Alliance, and joined the Allies. When the war began, it was only
Germany and Austria Hungary, but then the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria joined. There were other
countries that joined as well, but they did not contribute as much as The Ottoman Empire and
Bulgaria. The alliance also had the name Central Powers because of where they were located. They
were all located between the Russian Empire in the east and France and the UK in the west. The triple
Entente started with France, Great Britain, and Russia. When Italy started having trouble with the
Axis, Italy started to plan joining the allies. Eventually Italy separated from the Axis, and joined the
Allies. After the war started, Japan joined the

Value Chain System
VALUE CHAIN SYSTEM
The value chain concept was created by Michael Porter and explained in his book Competitive
Advantage , published in 1980. The value chain is a series of activities that create and build value
culminating in the contribution of total value to the organization. Porter used the concept of value
chain as a systematic approach to examining the development of an organization s competitive
advantage in the marketplace.
In using the value chain concept, the total activities undertaken by a business are split into Primary
Activities and Support Activities. Primary activities relate to inbound logistics, operations, outbound
logistics, marketing and sales, and service. Support activities include procurement, technology ...

Marriage And The Role Of Women

Marriage Essay
During the 14th century, marriage and the role of women in the marriage were very different from
today. Most marriages in the 14th century occurred between an older man and a young girl; a girl is
usually chosen because they were pure and could produce the most heirs. The bride s family would
pay the husband through a dowry, consisting of land, money, or anything of high value. The more
unattractive the women were, the more the family would have to pay the husband. Right here, women
are already being objectified by their looks. Men want a girl who looks pure and untouched, why
would anyone want a dirtied girl. Being someone who was not good looking was an even bigger
disgrace since your appearance does not please your husband, you are not doing your job of keeping
him happy. Women are often portrayed as an object of men to be bought and fondled with; they are
not allowed to control their lives. Geoffrey Chaucer took part in telling the story of how many women
acted in the 14th century and how the women were portrayed at this time. Chaucer s views on
marriage are made very clear throughout The Canterbury Tales. He used the five marriage tales: The
Shipman s Tale, The Wife s Prologue , The Clark s Tale , The Merchant s Tale , and The Franklin s
Tale to express his views on marriage, I was struck most strongly by how much he knew about love,
about men and women, by the depth and complexity of an

Rhetorical Analysis Of `` What The Hell Is Water `` By...
Famed American author David Foster Wallace gave a commencement speech to Kenyon College s
graduating class of 2005. Most commencement speeches focus on graduates accomplishments as well
as give general life advice. Wallace s presentation follows this pattern at first, congratulating the
students on getting their diplomas. However, most of his speech is dedicated to the idea of thinking
beyond ourselves. Throughout the speech, Wallace argues we should live with empathy through his
use of humor and appeals to the audience s empathy. The introduction quickly introduces the
humorous tone found throughout the piece with his use of anecdotes. In the opening anecdote, two
young fish fail to recognize that they are surrounded by water. By juxtaposing the academic setting
with the fish exclaiming what the hell is water? the speaker creates humor with the fish s unexpected
colloquialism. Furthermore, Wallace connects the irony of the fish anecdote with the that of most
adults, who are unable to see what really matters in life just as the fish can not see the water that
encompasses them. The speaker follows this story with another about an atheist and a theist arguing
about the existence of God. By refusing to see the other s perspective, Wallace shows the humor in
their rigid belief systems. The speaker also pokes fun at his liberal arts audience by asking why they
accept both men s position without questioning their rationale for doing so. By doing so, Wallace
displays audience

Economic Policy Change in Soviet Union From 1941 to 1986...
Economic Policy Change in Soviet Union From 1941 to 1986 The period 1941 1986 saw little change
in the Russian economy, although attempts were made at reform by Khrushchev, for example, with his
Virgin Lands scheme. I believe that economic policy did not change between the years 1941 1986 but
the change was often quickly reversed and change was not carried out to a great enough extent to have
any significant bearing on the development of the Russian economy. Russia was almost destroyed by
the efforts needed to sustain a war. Even though the first, second and third Five Year Plans had been
heavily concentrated on the heavy industries such as coal and steel, which proved to be ... Show more

The need for labour and troops was intense and between 1941 and 1944 the gulag population
decreased by two fifths. Able bodied men were conscripted from the collectives and women were left
to care for the farms. Grain production fell from 95 million tons in 1940 to 30 million tons in 1942.
This was a huge drop, and famine was common, particularly in the Ukraine and Siberia, where loss of
life was most severe. The more relaxed attitude of Stalin during the wars years had nurtured a belief
that life would be easier and less repressed after the war. However, this proved not to be the case. The
Fourth Five Year Plan was intended to restore Russia s pre war reputation as an industrial power.
Industrial production recovered quickly, mainly through the use of over 2 million slave labourers. The
rigid centralised economy imposed by Stalin was useful in this instance as it became easier to organise
workers and factories. The Fifth Five Year Plan was concentrated slightly more on the consumer
industries, helping to improve living conditions in Russia. The relaxation of Stalinist policy meant that
although rigid central control was retained, Party power was weakened in the countryside. When
Khrushchev came to power in 1953, he inherited the rigid centralised economy symbolic with the
Stalinist era. In 1956

Analysis of The Titanic, by James Cameron Essay
Within the context of film industry, the film Titanic by James Cameron belongs to epic romance/
disaster genre. The film, released in 1997, was a global box office hit because the director provided
equal importance to history, fiction and romance. To be specific, one can see that the film s plot is
based upon the history of RMS Titanic. On the other side, the main characters including the
protagonist and the heroine (Jack Dawson and Rose DeWitt Bukater/Dawson) are fictional characters.
Besides, the element of romance between the main characters (Jack and Rose) is the film s main
attraction. Thesis statement: The critical analysis of the film Titanic proves that the innovative mode
of storytelling (flash back and other techniques), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within this context, the director made use of flashback technique to unearth the romantic story of the
lovers in the film. To be specific, the plot moves from present condition (say, 1996) to past (say, 1912)
and to present (1996). In the opening scene, the director portrays the effort of Brock Lovett (say, a
treasure hunter) to unearth the secret behind a necklace sunk with RMS Titanic in 1912. Gradually, the
director portrays the love affair between Rose and Jack. In the end, Rose drops the necklace into the
Ocean and returns. The film ends with a fictional reunion between the lovers. B. Acting The film s
casting is related to historical and fictional characters. For instance, some of real travelers in the RMS
Titanic are portrayed in the film. This is helpful for the viewers to identify the historical element of the
film. On the other side, the protagonist and the heroine are fictional characters. For instance, Jack and
Rose, (the protagonist and his lady love) are fictional characters who inculcated the element of
romance in the film. One can see that the director s decision to caste Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack
Dawson (say, the protagonist) is one of the elements behind the commercial success of the film.
Besides, DiCaprio s youthful exuberance suits his character in the film. On the other side, Kate
Winslet s character as Rose DeWitt Bukater is apt

The sun climbed up the sky, shining the fields a brilliant golden. The barley stalks waved majestically
in the wind. A lush valley filled with green willows and shrubs lied past the fields. On the other side of
the field, the ranch was overshadowed by the large and strong Gabilans. A herd of rabbits bounded
through the valley, and sat on the fluffy grass, watching a large grey hulk stand lifelessly in the center
of the field. A large cloud meandered over the Gabilans, changing the well defined brown slopes to an
ominous black.

Introduction What, when, where, and why was the Holocaust? The Holocaust was first called a
religious rite in which an offer that gave to some one was burned in a fire. The current definition of
holocaust is any widespread human massacre. When it is written Holocaust, it means when
Nazi Germany completely destroyed the Jewish. The Holocaust was during the period of
January 30, 1933 to May 8, 1945. Hitler became Germany s chancellor when it first started and the
war ended on the last day of the Holocaust, or known as V E Day. During that time frame,

the Communists, the government established individual rights and protections.
Freedom of speech, assembly, and expression were the rights and protections that were demolished.
The Nazis won the majority in the government with nearly forty four percent of the votes on March
fifth. Moving swiftly the Nazis brought together their power into a dictatorship. The Enabling
Act was passed on March twenty third. Hitler s dictatorial efforts were approved and was now legally
able to pursue them. Complex police and military force were also developed. With the police now set
in place, the nazis opponents were beaten, terrorized, or sent to one of the concentration camps that
the Germans had built. The first camp built for the prisoners was Dachau, just outside of Munich.
Over time Dachau s purpose was changed and became another brutal camp for the Jews. Hitler was in
full control of Germany and his campaign against the Jews was in full force by the end of 1934.
According to the Nazis, the Jews destroyed the German culture with their
foreign and mongrel influence. They saw the Jews as evil and cowardly and the Germans as
hardworking, honest, and courageous. The Jews claimed the Nazis, which were heavily represented in

Book Title: Freakonomics
Author name: Steven D. Levitt, Stephen J. Dubner
The author Steven Levitt studied economics at Harvard University and MIT. He is primarily known
for his work in the field of crime. The title Freakonomics means a study of economics based on the
principles of incentives. The title is related to the book since he emphasizes how incentives drive and
affect people s actions. Although this book does not have a single theme, the main focus of the book is
a new way of interpreting the world using economic tools. He explores incentives, information
asymmetry, conventional wisdom, crime and abortion, and parenting throughout the six chapters of
the book. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an example of incentive, Levitt introduces a daycare study in which a daycare center fines $3 for
parents who comes late. The study finds out that the number of parents coming late increased as they
put a $3 of fine. He explains that the incentive of $3 was too small, and the fine made the parents to
not feel the moral guilt for showing up late, resulting in more parents being late.
Levitt next examines the incentives that cause people to cheat. The first example of cheating is a story
of teachers cheating in Chicago public schools. To avoid the risk of getting fired or getting penalty by
the government for low test scores, many teachers chose to cheat and inflate their students scores.
They cheated by allowing the students to have more time during test, giving away answers, and even
by changing students answers by themselves. In this case, we can see that the schoolteachers are
driven by economic incentives. For them, moral and social incentives are not as strong as economic
incentives. Similar cheating can be seen in sumo wrestling. In Japan, sumo wrestling is a very popular
sports and the high ranked wrestlers get great honor. Also, among sumo wrestlers, their rank
determines their salary, reputation, how they are treated, and even how much he gets to eat and sleep.
Because they are so desperate for higher rank, the incentive for cheating is very powerful. In the
crucial matches that determines sumo wrestler s ranking, they cheat by

What Is The Cultural Context Of The Happiest Millionaire
I will be using the 1967 movie musical The Happiest Millionaire, directed by Norman Tokar, to
demonstrate group communication theories by examining the transitions taking place within the
Biddle family, and how these transitions become apparent through the family s interactions with new
groups of individuals.
Rather than recognizing that an organization has a culture, it can be argued that an organization is a
culture. This means that communication occurs in a unique cultural context, which the organization
establishes for itself. Regarded as a soft science, the cultural approach is a more interpretive form of
analysis, and is understood through the sharing of personal, collegial, and corporate stories, as well as
the ritualistic tendencies of the organization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Biddle and the members of the Biddle Bible Study use these practices to create a culture that is
dependent upon the connection between physical exercise and spiritual understanding. Mr. Biddle uses
corporate stories and rituals to express the ideologies of the group, the most important being that
everyone can and should be both physically and spiritually strong, regardless of gender, size, or age.
In one scene, Mr. Biddle is visited by a small group of young military men who are interested in using
his bible study methods to train their recruits. However, after explaining his corporate ideology, the
men inform him that he is too old to train the men himself, so he challenges one of the young men to a
boxing match, which he promptly wins. This match helped Mr. Biddle demonstrate that the unique
culture of the Biddle Bible Study cannot be truly duplicated by anyone but himself.
These fantasies then trigger a fantasy chain, a reaction in which group members contribute their own
fantasy themes in order to establish shared meaning. This theme can be recalled by a symbolic queue,
therefore extending and memorializing this momentary

Changes Since The Sixties Essay
There were no time guzzling metal detectors at the airports... or the schools. There were no grouchy
warning labels on the records and no ratings necessary on the movies. And TV shows were acceptable
to the whole family. Those were the sixties or at least part of it. Some of the 52 million sixties
boomers called it the decade of peace, harmony and love mainly for the movement for peace and the
flower power attitude. Others, a little more pessimistic, called it the decade of dissatisfaction because
of the protests against the war and the race riots in many cities. For the teenagers it was the decade of
sweet sounding, good time rock n roll...from the Beatles to the Kinks and many more in between. Still
for others it was filled with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today the film industry is booming. The film industry also makes more than 200 movies a year so
they can usually film within the country. However both today and in the sixties film was in color and
both decades targeted younger audiences. Movie ticket prices have also increased. An average movie
ticket in the sixties cost about thirty eight cents, whereas today tickets cost between five and eight
dollars.
Literature techniques and topics chosen by authors reflected the social changes and interests of the
sixties. Some writers focused on traditional issues, others reflected the cultural conflicts made by the
Civil Rights movement, the coming of age of the post war baby boomers and the war in Vietnam.
Popular book genres of the sixties were romance, science fiction, and fantasy. Slaughterhouse Five
and Stranger in A Strange Land are just two examples. Today people enjoy reading fantasy and non
fiction novels as well. Although they also buy dating books such as He s Just Not That into You and
dieting books like The Zone Diet. The sixties was a good decade for non fiction in general. Both
Growing Up Absurd and Feminine Mystique did well with readers. Non fiction and fiction today don t
really compete since they have separate bestsellers list. However both are doing well with the Da
Vinci Code and My Life So Far on a Bestsellers List. Young Adult books in the sixties became
controversial for their critical observations of adults like Catcher in the Rye by

Examples Of Logical Fallacies In Advertising
Advertisements are everywhere, on television, radio, social media, billboards, magazines, and even on
yearbooks. On the other hand, would it not be nice if every advertisement an individual saw, read, or
heard were actually true? Like using Axe body spray really did attract women or eating Snickers really
made one satisfied in seconds? Yet, most of the times the advertisements that seem too good to be true,
actually are. In fact, many ads are only slightly true and instead filled with many common errors in
reasoning, known as logical fallacies, a sneaky marketing technique many companies use to trick a
consumer into giving them their undivided attention and money. In fact, one well known company for
using logical fallacies in their advertisements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plain folk is the marketing strategy where advertisers portray a person like a well known celebrity like
Lindsey Lohan as a person who is in fact, normal or an everyday Joe. For instance, Lohan explains
that even though she is a singer and actress she is just like anyone else, a person who struggles with
having unclear, bumpy, and acne prone skin stating, I m a normal person and I do get zits and I m not
happy when I do so I like to try and find anything that s preventative towards it and Proactiv has done
that for me. By promoting a person, in this case as Lindsay Lohan, a person who suffers from the
same problems as acne, like anyone else, people gain trust and feel comforted, resulting in the
individual being more open and willing to buy a product. Then again Proactiv is not the only company
that has used and uses logical fallacies in their advertisements to trick people into buying their
products. In fact, if one were to close enough to the advertisements and commercials that are around
them, they would start to see how life is filled with false statements, logical fallacies, and ultimately
scams. Perhaps, people will think twice and be more cautious when buying a product, knowing that in
the end they might just be wasting their

The Influence of Athletic Competition on Psychological...
Literature review and Research Questions Research has illustrated that athletic competition has a
strong influence on psychological development, impacting an individual s formation in areas such as
self esteem, body image and overall well being (Anshel, 2000; Findlay Bowker, 2007; Haugen,
Safvenbom Ommundsen, 201; Peden, Stiles, Vandehey Diekhoff, 2008). A large sector of this research
has specifically analyzed the outcomes of negative experiences within athletics, especially those high
in stress and therefore resulting in potentially detrimental consequences for athletes. A major source of
stress within athletics is due to potential and veritable athletic injuries due to overuse, during game
accidents and other competition/training related afflictions (Hanson, McCullagh Tonymon, 1992).
Approximately 3 5 million injuries occur due to athletics each year (Smith, Smoll Ptacek, 1990), and
the prevalence of such injuries suggests that the trauma experienced could pose a significant threat to
athletes, both physically and psychologically, a phenomenon that warrants further investigation. For
the past 30 years or so, research has evaluated the manner with which people handle stressful
situations, which include athletic injury, and across the literature it has been consistently and reliably
found that people vary in the manner with which they express well being across stressful life events

Integrated Pharmacotherapy
In the healthcare field pharmacist will constantly encounter situations were they will have to
recommend the most appropriate treatment for a patient. Furthermore, as part of a healthcare team,
other professionals will look up to us and expect us to have the knowledge and skills required to make

She finally started to feel accepted by not only the kids, but as well as some of the adults. Julian had
the power to start a war or die. The wife of Wiliam(her owner) says that if she looks beautiful in the
eyes of William he may risk the war to keep her. Julian has the power to bear children unlike
Melino(William s wife). Nevertheless, Julian becomes beautiful to try to impress William, so she is
could be kept by him. At the ceremony with thousands of Tulim people Julian had the power, all eyes
were on her, like the eyes of a cat on a mouse, this was her time. She sung the same song from her
dreams. She started to sing Amazing Grace in front of all the people, she needed to impress William,
because he is the only one that can save her from Kirutu. She sang one song that changed everything.
William defended Julian and took her as a new wife. Nevertheless, Julian was finally accepted at the
price of a war between two brothers, three tribes, and the valley of Tulim. Overall, the story of Julian
Carter is a breathtaking one. She is the woman with no fear, she started a new life from nothing, but at
what price is still to figure out. Was the risk she took really worth what will happen. She had found her
fate, she accepted what was happening, and she had started her new life in the Tulim

Franklins Case
1. Overview of Situation Franklins was the first supermarket chain launched no frills brand of generic
products in Australia. The company was positioned as a low prices supermarket. The operations of
Franklins were based on cost reduction principles that involved limited promotion, low inventory, a
large number of product lines and simple facilities (Brown, 1997). In 1992, Franklins had developed a
new concept, called Big Fresh, which had increased sales volume. According to Australian
Competition and Consumer Commission (1999), Franklins as the third leader supermarket chain
raised market shares with Woolworths and Coles from 40 percent in 1975 to nearly 80 percent in
1998. Although Franklins was successful in growth market share, smaller sized stores and extended

Statement of Main Problem Level of Analysis The level of analysis in this case is Level 2 as
organisation issues. 1) Industry issues: 1980s were a golden age for supermarket industry and
Franklins was a mainstream supermarket format (Jacenko Gunasekera, 2005).Today, supermarket
industry is developing positively. Australian Bureau of Statistics. (2014) reported supermarket trend
break of $190 million in December 2013. 2) Organisation issues: It is obviously an organisation issue
as Franklins was not achieved mass extension and re formatting organisation since 2001. 3) Discipline
issues: Due to fail changing organisation, the marketing and communication strategies appear
confused. It is difficult to decide right message strategy toward reposition Franklins. Problem Type In
relation to Franklins, the problem type is practically a specific problem that requires a solution, which
changes the ways of organisation mass investment on extending and restructuring that can be modified
from a poor situation. The reason is Franklins lacking of success on a marketing decision, so Franklins

Eileen Fisher Case
How is the Eileen Fisher brand story embodied in its:
Products: The clothes are stylish, yet simple and built for comfort. The pieces in the collection were
designed to work together, so customers could creatively vary their look from day to day. They were
designed to make getting dressed easy, and to be versatile enough to be worn to work and out for the
evening. Fisher was adamant about designing clothes for real women and developed forgiving
silhouettes that flattered women regardless of their body type. The fluid clothes were designed to take

The website was also another platform that was updated. They included more videos to bring the webs

would wear the brand s clothes; however now it just shifts that focus to the actual clothes.
How strong is the brand story? What are the core brand associations and meaning narratives
associated with the brand?
The brand story was considered very strong. It is a high end brand that accounts such as
Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, etc. appreciated because it was the best performing brand. It could have
been too strong, before the repositioning, because it shifted certain segments away. People associated
the brand as for older people, well established in their careers as well as a mom/grandmother brand. It
had a very strong brand loyalty associated with it. As the company grew older so did its customers.
Some people did not want to be associated with that, and did not buy the brand; therefore shifting
younger segments away.
How healthy is the brand at the time of the case?
At the time of the case the brand was healthy but it was at a vulnerable point. There had been
economic downfall, so the industry as a whole was suffering but Eileen Fisher was stronger than its
competitors. Economic factors forced customers to go to discount brands and shy away from
department stores, therefore not only was Eileen Fisher losing customers its competitors were as well.

Social And Social Impact On Human Diversity
Social workers must be able to discuss the human behaviors of different groups of people. The
differences of mankind are what is called in social work human diversity. Council on Social Work
Education states that human diversity can be grouped in subgroups that consist of age, color, class,
culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, immigration status, political
ideology, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation; (Zastrow Ashman, 2013, p.11). There are social
systems set up by every country. These systems consist of certain subsystems and social structures.
Social Systems Theory is human behavior in it s most complete terms. This theory is set to create a
membership between the members of society. It works to form a union for families, organizations and
others members of society to work together to solve problems. In some parts of the world the social

A Scientist, By Aldous Huxley
When thinking of a scientist, the visual that often comes to mind would be that of a curious, patient
individual slaving away in a sterile environment. Scientists are often viewed by society as quite droll,
but in reality, they must be incredibly creative and intuitive in order to make scientific discoveries.
Children around the world often dream of making remarkable scientific discoveries, although for
some, unfortunate circumstances prevent them from working in scientific laboratories. Whether it be
due to a major illness or a physical defect, many inspired adolescents are kept from their true passion,
due to the demands of the field. These individuals are often forced into much less favorable
professions, but still retain the analytical mind of a prospective scientist. However, those lucky few
who are allowed to express their scientific interests through their alternate occupations, typically
novelists, often portray idealistic societies which have been driven forward by scientific advances.
One such disgruntled novelist, Aldous Huxley, allows his creativity to flourish through his work,
spouting a myriad of technological advancements which have allowed society to become utopian. In
Brave New World, author Aldous Huxley presents the reader with a fanciful tale of scientific conquest
and social upheaval, which ultimately degrades his reputation as a credible scientist. Aldous Huxley,
unlike many of his peers, was born into a highly prominent family of intellectuals. His

The National Automotive Museum Preserves And Maintains...
Founded in 1989, the National Automotive Museum preserves and maintains more than two hundred
cars for the public to admire. Projects that go into working with the museum include archiving both
old and new knowledge of cars, filing research away on cars sold after Harrah s death for new owners,
digitizing new information using the computer system called PastPerfect, and transcribing the journal
of a man to the computer for record keeping. All of these tasks meant learning new skills in
maintaining a museum s behind the scene collection as well as researching the collection s history.
These projects help the museum function as well as provide a source of income so that the museum
can stay open. The first project was archiving in the museum library to learn organizational skills. The
automotive museum stores journals, magazines, books, and media such as film all in a library in the
back of the museum. The articles and journals within this library date back to the early car magazines
in the early twentieth century when the car was a novel machine, and goes all the way up to the most
recent editions that feature electric cars from Tesla. The project was to make sure everything went
back where it belonged in the system. Proper storage of the books ensures that the library stays
organized for research on the cars. Another aspect of that project is to add new works to the library. As
previously stated, the library is in possession of magazines and books from contemporary times

Comparison Between Durkheim And Freud s Theory Of Religion
Throughout this essay, an attempt to compare and contrast two key theorists approach to the study of
religion namely Durkheim and Freud will take place. This will consist of four stages, firstly an
introduction comprising of a definition of religion by Durkheim will occur. Secondly a comparison
and contrast of the approaches by Freud and Durkheim to the study of religion, as well as the strength
and weaknesses of these approaches and lastly a presentation of a conclusion will occur.
A number of problems are often encountered when dealing with the study of religion, the foremost
problem has to do with defining religion. For instance, definitions that attach and limit religion to
simply a belief in God/gods tend to be vague as well as narrow and to some degree not entirely
accurate. This is mainly because definitions like the one mentioned above neglect to take into account
atheistic religions that do not believe in God/gods. This is illustrated in a definition provided by the
oxford English dictionary, Action or conduct indicating belief in, obedience to, and reverence for a
god, gods, or similar superhuman power; the performance of religious rites or observances.
An alternative definition is presented in Durkheim s book, The Elementary Forms of religious life,
A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say things set
apart and forbidden beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a
church,

Why Attending School
I have not attended many different schools but I know that they all have more than one thing in
common, and these things need to be changed somehow, they are just not working. Whether you are
attending primary school, secondary school or college there are always issues with how we are taught,
what is being taught to us and how will it help us at the end of the day. I am sure there are many
reasons why we are taught the way we are and why we need to learn these things. The list is endless.
My entire school life I have come to discover patterns from different students including myself.
Attending school and learning is not boring or tiring. The schedule, the process and the reasoning
behind going to school is unfitting. First they tell us what time we have to be in class without even
considering the time of year and what season it is. It does not sound like much to worry about. But I
have realized that students tend to wake up late during the winter, they take longer getting out of the
bed and tend to eat and sleep more meaning they have less time to focus on homework no attending
classes. The early, cold and dark mornings during winter make it hard for students to leave their beds.
The issue is not waking up, the issue is getting out of the bed. Even though a student might know that
they will get into trouble for missing a lesson, they would rather deal with the teacher than go and face
the cold especially at 7h45 in the morning. What I am trying to say is, in the winter we

What Is The Theme Of The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Gilman is told from the perspective of an obedient wife, who is
denied adequate treatment of her serious mental illness. An issue that Gilman knew from her own
nervous breakdown and ineffective treatment she was given. This story is considered her greatest
piece of fiction because of its horrifying depictions and its bleak outlook (Great American Stories 81).
After it was first published in 1892, many interpreted the story only as a horror tale, but year s later
critics have attached many themes and symbolism to the short story. In The Yellow Wallpaper ,
Charlotte Gilman uses a descriptive first person point of view to not only immerse readers into the

While she never had hallucinations, Gilman did suffer from mental illness and depression for three
years when she underwent a rest cure prescribed by a neurologist. She reflected on many of her
personal experiences of isolation and paranoia to create a deranged yet believable character. The
terrifying character caused an outrage of one Boston physician, in an article in her Magazine The
Forerunner, Gilman remembered his reaction: Such a story ought not to be written, he said: it was
enough to drive anyone mad to read it (Great American Stories 81). While Gilman did face her critics,
she was proud to learn that her story had helped one woman. Gilman wrote about how the woman s
family realized that she needed normal activity to help her recover from her nervous breakdown. It
was not intended to drive people crazy, she remarked on her story, but to save people from being
driven crazy, and it worked (Great American Stories 81). The Yellow Wallpaper has greatly impacted
American literature and is regarded today as a true classic. Many of the themes such as female
oppression and poor treatment of the mentally ill are issues that are common today. Gilman brought to
life a character that became as deranged and insane as the conventional society that she was apart

The Secret Life of Bees
In Sue Monk Kidd s novel The Secret Life of Bees there is a psychological allegory present, which is
proven by the characters in the story. The psychological allegory is based on the theory by Sigmund
Freud, this theory states that in the human brain there is three major psychological portions, the id, the
ego, and the super ego. The id is the portion that induces selfishness and hatred and other bad actions,
the super ego is the opposite of the id, putting others before ones self and caring for others, the ego is
the perfect balance between the two and is almost always the psyche portrayed be the protagonist. In

mean standing up to the people of his community. He is only thinking of himself, which is a quality of
the id. T. Ray also only thinks of himself when Lily leaves him, instead of considering the fact that she
might be happier without him. T. Ray has found Lily at the Boatwright house and is insisting she come
back I spent half my summer looking for you, and I m taking you out of here (290) T. Ray spent half
his summer looking for Lily because he was happier with her, instead of thinking of Lily and
considering the fact that she might be happier with out him. In this he was only thinking of himself
and was demonstrating the id. Through all of these excerpts it can de determined that the character of
T. Ray demonstrates the id in the psychological allegory, through his bad treatment of Lily, his lack of
caring with Rosaleen, and the way he only thinks of himself.
In this novel the character of May Boatwright portrays the super ego, by her unbiased caring, by her
innocence, and by her need for perfection. May cares for every one no matter what race or gender, and

The Overall Theme Of Macbeth In Shakespeare s Play
The overall theme of the play Macbeth from Shakespeare is: do not proceed to do something if you
will regret it later. Throughout the play, we learned that every action that you take has consequences
and that you should never go against your conscience. This teaches the reader that their decisions in
life will affect them in one way or another. The theme is shown several times throughout the play the
first time it is in Act 2 when Macbeth sees a dagger and says I have thee not, and yet I see thee still.
Art thou not, fatal vision, sensible. To feeling as to sight? Or art thou but. A dagger of the mind, a false
creation, Proceeding from the heat oppressèd brain? (Act 2, Scene 1). This quote shows the theme
through his hallucination of the dagger right before he kills King Duncan because the reader can infer

Spleen
A number of anomalies have been found in the cat through out the dissection sessions. The anomalies
were an enlarged spleen, enlarged thymus and enlarged lymph nodes.
3.1 The Spleen
The spleen is an organ of the immune system (lymphatic system). It function is filter the blood and
maintain it in a healthy way. The spleen produces two types of pulp to perform its function, the red
and the white pulp (Goodenough McGuire, 2014). The red pulp filters the damaged blood cells,
palates and foreign materials in the blood, so it recycles the blood. On other hand, the white pulp is
composed from lymphocytes, macrophages and plasma cells that help clean the blood. These two
pulps work interchangeably to make sure the blood is filtered completely from any foreign materials
and dead cells.
Splenomegaly, which is the enlargement of the spleen, could happen due to four main causes, which
were cancer, infection, liver or blood diseases (Kuntz, 2006). An enlarged spleen causes
hypersplenism; it is a process where the spleen increases the filtration process of the blood cells. This
causes the spleen to recycle more blood and consider it to be a foreign material. Consequently, more

Significance Of Silence In Obasan
Writers often employ recurring events to show significance. In Joy Kogawa s, Obasan, a novel about
the Japanese persecution during World War 2, silence is used repeatedly to show protection. The

is kept a secret. The silence in the novel shapes Naomi s life in that it leads her to question the silence
and suppress it.
First, a significant event takes place in Naomi s life in which she portrays silence. At the simple age of
4 years old, Naomi is repeatedly raped by Old Man Gower. The next door neighbor, Old Man Gower,

When curriculum development is being considered, Vashist (2003:1) states that the development of

and adding and subtracting measurements. In the workshop, basic calculating of materials would be
required and using trigonometry and Pythagoras theorem to find angles and lengths. Correct
terminology will be emphasised so that learners will understand terminology and start to use it in their

In other words; Voltaire harmonizes philosophy, criticism and encountering with
the other
from the eyes of naïve Candide, the main character that darts himself to the adventures in the name of
love that he feels for Cunégonde and meets with people around the world with his deep curiosity. So,
in this essay; notions of philosophy, optimism and the approach to the other of Voltaire, embodied in
the main character Candide, are going to be the subject of discussion. Firstly, to start with notions of
philosophy and optimism, the character Pangloss is the key point.
Pangloss philosophy of optimism resembles the notions of German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm
Leibniz, as Leibniz stated that
I laid it down that God, having chosen the most perfect of all possible worlds, had been prompted by
his wisdom to permit the evil Büyükçulhacı
2 which was bound up with it, but which still did not prevent this world from being, all things
considered, the best that could be chosen.
(Leibniz, 67), while Pangloss argument differs very slightly, as he stated these:

Essay on Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus
Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is a genus of hardwood evergreen forest trees, and is the most conspicuous element of
Australian vegetation. Its members constitute 95 percent of the continent s forests and are the
dominant trees of Australia s woodlands (Kelly 1969). It is an extremely diverse group, with
approximately 500 named species and subspecies and nearly 200 described hybrid varieties (Blakely
1965). The genus is overwhelmingly endemic to the Australian mainland and Tasmania. Only seven
species occur naturally outside the continent, mostly on the islands of Papua/New Guinea and the
Indonisian island of Timor, and only two of these species are not represented on the Australian
continent. Eucalyptus is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, in response to this great diversity in habitat, Eucalyptus has, through many generations, adapted
and speciated to become one of the most diverse living groups on earth. The diversity of the genus lies
not only in its shear number of species, but also in the various forms, features, and morphological
characters it displays.
Because of its great range of habitation, the widespread Eucalyptus displays a variety of shapes and
sizes. The Snow Gum (E. pauciflora), which must deal with the harsh conditions of high altitudes,
takes the form of twisted, windswept shrubs, often barely reaching three feet in height (Kelly 1969).
However, the Mountain Ash (E. regnans) of the wet, rich loamed Victorian and Tasmanian forests,
often exceeds heights of 320 feet, making it the tallest Australian species and the tallest hardwood in
the world. Most forest species rarely attain heights of 150 feet, while woodland species generally do
not exceed 80 feet but have a short, thick trunk with heavy limbs to support a broad, spreading crown.
Sometimes the same species occurs in both forests and woodlands, assuming the form characteristic of
the vegetative type in which it grows (Hall, Johnston, and Chippendale 1970). A number of species
exhibit a shrub like dwarf form in which several stems arise from a large, woody rootstock composed
of stem tissue (called a lignotuber) imbedded in shallow soil.

Poverty Between Poverty And Poverty
Poverty eradication has become one of the main goals within the last few decades as shown through
the recently expired Millennium Development Goals and the subsequent Sustainable Development
Goals. Poverty, in turn, is influential as high poverty causes worse health outcomes within a country.
Poverty severely affects several aspects of quality of life, such as health, happiness. This makes it
important to evaluate the quality of life within a country. Poverty and Inequality have been linked
together by the World Bank in their report. This chapter will look at how the economic inequality
within Japan, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil have either increased or decreased poverty
within a country. The indicators this chapter shall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As previously shown, most economic indicators have flaws. The problem with a poverty line is that a
slight difference in the poverty line may cause a seismic shift in the number of people considered in
poverty. It also does not take into consideration prices around the world unless PPP and a basket is
never truly uniform through the world. In contrast to absolute poverty, relative poverty is measured by
a person s income in relation to people from the same country or region. Relative poverty, as measured
by OECD this is 60% of the median income salary. Also, if the hypothesis that humans relate our
achievements and happiness according to a reference group, then relative poverty is just as if not more
important than absolute poverty especially on quality of life. So, whilst looking at economic
inequality, we shall use both relative and absolute poverty stats to help better understand the effect on
economic inequality on poverty.
As mentioned in Brazil and South Africa in the last couple of decades we have seen accelerated
growth with Brazil s growth being considered equal in contrast to the rapidly increasing inequality
experienced in South Africa. The above figure shows the available statistics from Brazil and South
Africa in absolute poverty reduction from the World Bank; a reputable organisation involved in the
poverty reduction

Wilfred Owen
What is Wilfred Owen s attitude towards WW1 and how is this shown through his poetry?
Wilfred Owen was a soldier during world war one. Many of his poems were published posthumously,
and now well renowned. His poems were also heavily influenced by his good friend and fellow soldier
Siegfried Sassoon. Wilfred Owen was tragically killed one week before the end of the war. During the
war Wilfred Owen had strong feelings towards the use of propaganda and war in general, this was due
to the horrors he saw during his time on the frontlines. During his time on the battlefield he thought a
lot about the war and the feelings he and other soldiers had, and he channelled his thoughts through
poetry. In this essay I will compare Dulce et Decorum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In comparison the content of Anthem for a Doomed Youth uses rhyming couplets in the form of a
Petrarchan sonnet, a much more basic rhyme scheme compared to the complexity of Dulce et decorum
est . However, in contrast to this Anthem of a Doomed youth starts in a more depressing tone What
passing bells for those who die as cattle... only the monstrous anger of the guns these words are trying
to tell us that war is not glorious as you do not get a proper funeral, and you die as cattle showing that
the life of the soldiers is worth no more than the life of an animal and The description depicts
multitudes of people being slaughtered and the nature of war to be full of mass deaths.
Owen uses personification to describe the guns Only the monstrous anger of the guns to build up a
vivid scene as to how the guns were fired, and how the soldiers perceived them to be. Owen shows
that in war there are only the sounds of guns being fired. In war, instead of honouring those who have
fallen, more are being killed by the same weapons. Thus giving us a clear indication as to how he felt
about war. Anthem of a Doomed Youth tells us how unfortunate it is for a soldier to die in war, this is
due to him getting no respect, farewell or burial. Owen constantly compares the war to traditional
burial rituals. Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs, The shrill, demented choirs of wailing
shells; by saying this

Animal Testing and The Animal Welfare Act
Many scientists claim that without animal testing, medical breakthroughs and research would not have
progressed to where it is today. Some people claim that animals do not have rights and mankind
naturally has dominion over them, making it acceptable to use them for scientific experimentation.
This is simply not true. Animals can feel pain. They can suffer. One critic of animal testing maintains
that pain is an intrinsic evil, and any act that causes pain in any other creature is morally wrong
(Andre). A scientist should not be allowed to perform any experiment on an animal that they would
not perform on a fellow human being. Animal testing is not only inhumane, it is bad science, and in
light of other alternatives, it should have been halted decades ago. Millions of people still labor under
the delusion that animal experimentation is the only way to test new medications, cosmetics, and
household chemicals for human use. The media, experimenters, universities, and lobbying groups
have propagated this misconception, arguing for the role animal testing has played in past medical
advances and exaggerating the potential for it to lead to new cures ( Animal Testing ). If people took
the time to research the actual tests animals are forced to undergo, they would be appalled by the
inhumanity of the whole process. There is only one piece of legislation in the United States that
regulates animal testing in laboratories. The Animal Welfare Act, first passed in 1966, has not

How Did Stalin Affect The Sovietization Of Eastern Europe
Sovietisation of Eastern Europe 1945 1968
World war two saw a grand alliance of Britain, America and Russia created in order to defeat their
common enemy, Adolf Hitler. In pursuit of this goal they attended a number of conferences to plan
their attacks and to decide on the future of post war Europe. At Teheran in 1943 Churchill voiced
concerns about the post war situation in Eastern Europe, he was afraid that victory over the Nazis
would leave the USSR in control of Eastern Europe. To prevent this from happening he proposed that
the Anglo American s open up a second front in the Balkans. Stalin rejected this proposal as he knew
it would thwart his plan to extend his sphere of influence in Eastern Europe after the war, and insisted

While Stalin had promised that the elections would be free and fair, they were anything but. In the
1947 election the communists won 80% of the vote and a one party communist state was created. The
Catholic Church became the main opposition voice in Poland with Cardinal Wyszynski imprisoned for
his support of resistance groups. Despite this, the sovietisation of Poland lasted 40 years.
In Hungary the communists initially formed only a small part of a national government after the war.
In the 1945 election the communists only won 17% of the vote while the Smallholders Party won
60%. However, under pressure from the Soviet Union the PM Tidly was forced to appoint a
communist Rákosi as his deputy and Rajk as minister of the interior, latter position meant that the
communists controlled the police and the legal system and they used this to terrorise members of the
opposition parties. In the 1947 election the communists won 24% of the vote but by merging with the
social Democrats they were able to get the Parliament to pass a new constitution in 1949.
The coalition government in Czechoslovakia lasted longer than in other eastern bloc countries. The
democratic parties held the majority in this government with Benes as president and Jan Masaryk as
Foreign Minister. However as had happened in other eastern bloc countries a communist, Gottwald,
was appointed PM and they

  • 2. Definition Essay On Ghetto Definition of Ghetto The word Ghetto is a term that is used to describe where a person is from, or the type of person they are. All around the world the word ghetto is used, and all around the world it has the same negative meaning. Mostly a derogatory word to some, but to others ghetto is a word of pride and respect in the streets. It s a word loosely used among younger individuals to identify where they are from, or the type of lifestyle they live. In I was a member of the King Fu Crew , Henry Han Xi Lau uses the word ghetto to describe the area in which he grew up, personal appearance, and writing techniques used to describe ghetto in his essay. Lau uses a couple of self definitions of how he defines the word ghetto and what it means to him. In paragraph ten, Lau begins to describe part of what the word ghetto means, we sit and talk about ghettoness again. We can never exactly articulate what being ghetto entails, but we know the spirit of it. • 4. Value Chain System VALUE CHAIN SYSTEM The value chain concept was created by Michael Porter and explained in his book Competitive Advantage , published in 1980. The value chain is a series of activities that create and build value culminating in the contribution of total value to the organization. Porter used the concept of value chain as a systematic approach to examining the development of an organization s competitive advantage in the marketplace. In using the value chain concept, the total activities undertaken by a business are split into Primary Activities and Support Activities. Primary activities relate to inbound logistics, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales, and service. Support activities include procurement, technology ... • 5. Marriage And The Role Of Women Kate Eickhoff Dr. White IB 11 English 28 November 2016 Marriage Essay During the 14th century, marriage and the role of women in the marriage were very different from today. Most marriages in the 14th century occurred between an older man and a young girl; a girl is usually chosen because they were pure and could produce the most heirs. The bride s family would pay the husband through a dowry, consisting of land, money, or anything of high value. The more unattractive the women were, the more the family would have to pay the husband. Right here, women are already being objectified by their looks. Men want a girl who looks pure and untouched, why would anyone want a dirtied girl. Being someone who was not good looking was an even bigger disgrace since your appearance does not please your husband, you are not doing your job of keeping him happy. Women are often portrayed as an object of men to be bought and fondled with; they are not allowed to control their lives. Geoffrey Chaucer took part in telling the story of how many women acted in the 14th century and how the women were portrayed at this time. Chaucer s views on marriage are made very clear throughout The Canterbury Tales. He used the five marriage tales: The Shipman s Tale, The Wife s Prologue , The Clark s Tale , The Merchant s Tale , and The Franklin s Tale to express his views on marriage, I was struck most strongly by how much he knew about love, about men and women, by the depth and complexity of an ... • 6. Rhetorical Analysis Of `` What The Hell Is Water `` By... Famed American author David Foster Wallace gave a commencement speech to Kenyon College s graduating class of 2005. Most commencement speeches focus on graduates accomplishments as well as give general life advice. Wallace s presentation follows this pattern at first, congratulating the students on getting their diplomas. However, most of his speech is dedicated to the idea of thinking beyond ourselves. Throughout the speech, Wallace argues we should live with empathy through his use of humor and appeals to the audience s empathy. The introduction quickly introduces the humorous tone found throughout the piece with his use of anecdotes. In the opening anecdote, two young fish fail to recognize that they are surrounded by water. By juxtaposing the academic setting with the fish exclaiming what the hell is water? the speaker creates humor with the fish s unexpected colloquialism. Furthermore, Wallace connects the irony of the fish anecdote with the that of most adults, who are unable to see what really matters in life just as the fish can not see the water that encompasses them. The speaker follows this story with another about an atheist and a theist arguing about the existence of God. By refusing to see the other s perspective, Wallace shows the humor in their rigid belief systems. The speaker also pokes fun at his liberal arts audience by asking why they accept both men s position without questioning their rationale for doing so. By doing so, Wallace displays audience ... Economic Policy Change in Soviet Union From 1941 to 1986 The period 1941 1986 saw little change in the Russian economy, although attempts were made at reform by Khrushchev, for example, with his Virgin Lands scheme. I believe that economic policy did not change between the years 1941 1986 but the change was often quickly reversed and change was not carried out to a great enough extent to have any significant bearing on the development of the Russian economy. Russia was almost destroyed by the efforts needed to sustain a war. The need for labour and troops was intense and between 1941 and 1944 the gulag population decreased by two fifths. Able bodied men were conscripted from the collectives and women were left to care for the farms. Grain production fell from 95 million tons in 1940 to 30 million tons in 1942. This was a huge drop, and famine was common, particularly in the Ukraine and Siberia, where loss of life was most severe. The more relaxed attitude of Stalin during the wars years had nurtured a belief that life would be easier and less repressed after the war. However, this proved not to be the case. The Fourth Five Year Plan was intended to restore Russia s pre war reputation as an industrial power. Industrial production recovered quickly, mainly through the use of over 2 million slave labourers. The rigid centralised economy imposed by Stalin was useful in this instance as it became easier to organise workers and factories. The Fifth Five Year Plan was concentrated slightly more on the consumer industries, helping to improve living conditions in Russia. The relaxation of Stalinist policy meant that although rigid central control was retained, Party power was weakened in the countryside. When Khrushchev came to power in 1953, he inherited the rigid centralised economy symbolic with the Stalinist era. In 1956 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the opening scene, the director portrays the effort of Brock Lovett (say, a treasure hunter) to unearth the secret behind a necklace sunk with RMS Titanic in 1912. Dubner The author Steven Levitt studied economics at Harvard University and MIT. He is primarily known for his work in the field of crime. The title Freakonomics means a study of economics based on the principles of incentives. The title is related to the book since he emphasizes how incentives drive and affect people s actions. Although this book does not have a single theme, the main focus of the book is a new way of interpreting the world using economic tools. He explores incentives, information asymmetry, conventional wisdom, crime and abortion, and parenting throughout the six chapters of the book. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an example of incentive, Levitt introduces a daycare study in which a daycare center fines $3 for parents who comes late. The study finds out that the number of parents coming late increased as they put a $3 of fine. He explains that the incentive of $3 was too small, and the fine made the parents to not feel the moral guilt for showing up late, resulting in more parents being late. Levitt next examines the incentives that cause people to cheat. The first example of cheating is a story of teachers cheating in Chicago public schools. To avoid the risk of getting fired or getting penalty by the government for low test scores, many teachers chose to cheat and inflate their students scores. They cheated by allowing the students to have more time during test, giving away answers, and even by changing students answers by themselves. In this case, we can see that the schoolteachers are driven by economic incentives. For them, moral and social incentives are not as strong as economic incentives. Similar cheating can be seen in sumo wrestling. In Japan, sumo wrestling is a very popular sports and the high ranked wrestlers get great honor. Also, among sumo wrestlers, their rank determines their salary, reputation, how they are treated, and even how much he gets to eat and sleep. Because they are so desperate for higher rank, the incentive for cheating is very powerful. In the crucial matches that determines sumo wrestler s ranking, they cheat by ... What Is The Cultural Context Of The Happiest Millionaire I will be using the 1967 movie musical The Happiest Millionaire, directed by Norman Tokar, to demonstrate group communication theories by examining the transitions taking place within the Biddle family, and how these transitions become apparent through the family s interactions with new groups of individuals. Rather than recognizing that an organization has a culture, it can be argued that an organization is a culture. This means that communication occurs in a unique cultural context, which the organization establishes for itself. Some of the 52 million sixties boomers called it the decade of peace, harmony and love mainly for the movement for peace and the flower power attitude. • 17. The Influence of Athletic Competition on Psychological... Literature review and Research Questions Research has illustrated that athletic competition has a strong influence on psychological development, impacting an individual s formation in areas such as self esteem, body image and overall well being (Anshel, 2000; Findlay Bowker, 2007; Haugen, Safvenbom Ommundsen, 201; Peden, Stiles, Vandehey Diekhoff, 2008). A large sector of this research has specifically analyzed the outcomes of negative experiences within athletics, especially those high in stress and therefore resulting in potentially detrimental consequences for athletes. A major source of stress within athletics is due to potential and veritable athletic injuries due to overuse, during game accidents and other competition/training related afflictions (Hanson, McCullagh Tonymon, 1992). Approximately 3 5 million injuries occur due to athletics each year (Smith, Smoll Ptacek, 1990), and the prevalence of such injuries suggests that the trauma experienced could pose a significant threat to athletes, both physically and psychologically, a phenomenon that warrants further investigation. For the past 30 years or so, research has evaluated the manner with which people handle stressful situations, which include athletic injury, and across the literature it has been consistently and reliably found that people vary in the manner with which they express well being across stressful life events (Carver, Scheier Weintraub,1989; DeLongis Holtzman, 2005; Smith, Smoll ... People associated the brand as for older people, well established in their careers as well as a mom/grandmother brand. It had a very strong brand loyalty associated with it. • 25. A Scientist, By Aldous Huxley When thinking of a scientist, the visual that often comes to mind would be that of a curious, patient individual slaving away in a sterile environment. Scientists are often viewed by society as quite droll, but in reality, they must be incredibly creative and intuitive in order to make scientific discoveries. Children around the world often dream of making remarkable scientific discoveries, although for some, unfortunate circumstances prevent them from working in scientific laboratories. Whether it be due to a major illness or a physical defect, many inspired adolescents are kept from their true passion, due to the demands of the field. These individuals are often forced into much less favorable professions, but still retain the analytical mind of a prospective scientist. However, those lucky few who are allowed to express their scientific interests through their alternate occupations, typically novelists, often portray idealistic societies which have been driven forward by scientific advances. One such disgruntled novelist, Aldous Huxley, allows his creativity to flourish through his work, spouting a myriad of technological advancements which have allowed society to become utopian. In Brave New World, author Aldous Huxley presents the reader with a fanciful tale of scientific conquest and social upheaval, which ultimately degrades his reputation as a credible scientist. Comparison Between Durkheim And Freud s Theory Of Religion Throughout this essay, an attempt to compare and contrast two key theorists approach to the study of religion namely Durkheim and Freud will take place. This will consist of four stages, firstly an introduction comprising of a definition of religion by Durkheim will occur. Secondly a comparison and contrast of the approaches by Freud and Durkheim to the study of religion, as well as the strength and weaknesses of these approaches and lastly a presentation of a conclusion will occur. A number of problems are often encountered when dealing with the study of religion, the foremost problem has to do with defining religion. For instance, definitions that attach and limit religion to simply a belief in God/gods tend to be vague as well as narrow and to some degree not entirely accurate. This is mainly because definitions like the one mentioned above neglect to take into account atheistic religions that do not believe in God/gods. This is illustrated in a definition provided by the oxford English dictionary, Action or conduct indicating belief in, obedience to, and reverence for a god, gods, or similar superhuman power; the performance of religious rites or observances. An alternative definition is presented in Durkheim s book, The Elementary Forms of religious life, A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say things set apart and forbidden beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a church, ... Why Attending School I have not attended many different schools but I know that they all have more than one thing in common, and these things need to be changed somehow, they are just not working. Whether you are attending primary school, secondary school or college there are always issues with how we are taught, what is being taught to us and how will it help us at the end of the day. I am sure there are many reasons why we are taught the way we are and why we need to learn these things. The list is endless. My entire school life I have come to discover patterns from different students including myself. Attending school and learning is not boring or tiring. The schedule, the process and the reasoning behind going to school is unfitting. First they tell us what time we have to be in class without even considering the time of year and what season it is. It does not sound like much to worry about. But I have realized that students tend to wake up late during the winter, they take longer getting out of the bed and tend to eat and sleep more meaning they have less time to focus on homework no attending classes. The early, cold and dark mornings during winter make it hard for students to leave their beds. The issue is not waking up, the issue is getting out of the bed. Even though a student might know that they will get into trouble for missing a lesson, they would rather deal with the teacher than go and face the cold especially at 7h45 in the morning. It function is filter the blood and maintain it in a healthy way. The spleen produces two types of pulp to perform its function, the red and the white pulp (Goodenough McGuire, 2014). The red pulp filters the damaged blood cells, palates and foreign materials in the blood, so it recycles the blood. On other hand, the white pulp is composed from lymphocytes, macrophages and plasma cells that help clean the blood. These two pulps work interchangeably to make sure the blood is filtered completely from any foreign materials and dead cells. Splenomegaly, which is the enlargement of the spleen, could happen due to four main causes, which were cancer, infection, liver or blood diseases (Kuntz, 2006). • 37. Curriculum Evaluation Curriculum Evaluation For this assignment, I intend to evaluate the Level 2 Diploma in bricklaying as it is my own specialist area. I will be discussing the theories and models of curriculum, influences on the design, evaluation and quality assurance systems. I will also evaluate the level 2 Diploma and discuss proposals for improvement. I currently teach at a HMP Moorland where I permanently deliver the bricklaying diploma alongside my colleague. When curriculum development is being considered, Vashist (2003:1) states that the development of curriculum has been conditioned by certain influences. Firstly, the subject matter is an obvious influence, then the course content and the influence of quantitative standards. Kelly (2004:2) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such activities are embedded into the theory sessions and portfolios (unit 2002 in the bricklaying Diploma), but emphasis and reinforcement in the workshop will help learners improve their mental skills. Such activities in the classroom would include working with measurements, calculating areas and adding and subtracting measurements. In the workshop, basic calculating of materials would be required and using trigonometry and Pythagoras theorem to find angles and lengths. Correct terminology will be emphasised so that learners will understand terminology and start to use it in their specialist subject which would help learners if they need to communicate with building suppliers or work colleagues. This is beyond the curriculum requirements and moves into the hidden curriculum as the learners are learning through their experiences rather than the educational objectives. The Diploma was introduced in September 2008 and replaced the ICA (Intermediate Construction Award) and was developed by the CAA (Construction Awards Alliance). The CAA website states that the benefits of the Level 2 Diploma are: * Apprentices and learners will be more skilled and knowledgeable * Individuals will be able to move across various projects, contracts and employers * There is a standard testing strategy for consistency with knowledge tests, practical assignments and the GOLA (Global On Line Assessment) test. The Diploma has been designed to meet Ofqual s new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Satire In Voltaire s Candide Or Optimism Candide or Optimism ; with its main character Candide constantly roaming around the world carrying questions of good and evil, and through the lines of the book take place the thoughts of criticism that flow through the river of philosophy on the terrain of satire, is a short novel of François Marie Arouet or best known as Voltaire , first published in 1759. At the beginning of the novel, after a short overview of the main characters; Baron Thunder ten tronckh, the Baroness, the Baron s daughter Cun égonde, naïve Candide and Candide s mentor philosopher Pangloss, Voltaire exiles Candide from his hometown and starts the series of adventures; and confronts Candide with the world and the others outside the castle of Baron Thunder ten tronckh ... In other words; Voltaire harmonizes philosophy, criticism and encountering with the other from the eyes of naïve Candide, the main character that darts himself to the adventures in the name of love that he feels for Cunégonde and meets with people around the world with his deep curiosity. So, in this essay; notions of philosophy, optimism and the approach to the other of Voltaire, embodied in the main character Candide, are going to be the subject of discussion. Firstly, to start with notions of philosophy and optimism, the character Pangloss is the key point. Pangloss philosophy of optimism resembles the notions of German philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, as Leibniz stated that I laid it down that God, having chosen the most perfect of all possible worlds, had been prompted by his wisdom to permit the evil Büyükçulhacı 2 which was bound up with it, but which still did not prevent this world from being, all things considered, the best that could be chosen. • 39. Essay on Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus Diversity and Distribution of Eucalyptus Eucalyptus is a genus of hardwood evergreen forest trees, and is the most conspicuous element of Australian vegetation. Its members constitute 95 percent of the continent s forests and are the dominant trees of Australia s woodlands (Kelly 1969). It is an extremely diverse group, with approximately 500 named species and subspecies and nearly 200 described hybrid varieties (Blakely 1965). The genus is overwhelmingly endemic to the Australian mainland and Tasmania. Only seven species occur naturally outside the continent, mostly on the islands of Papua/New Guinea and the Indonisian island of Timor, and only two of these species are not represented on the Australian continent. Eucalyptus is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, in response to this great diversity in habitat, Eucalyptus has, through many generations, adapted and speciated to become one of the most diverse living groups on earth. The diversity of the genus lies not only in its shear number of species, but also in the various forms, features, and morphological characters it displays. Because of its great range of habitation, the widespread Eucalyptus displays a variety of shapes and sizes. The Snow Gum (E. pauciflora), which must deal with the harsh conditions of high altitudes, takes the form of twisted, windswept shrubs, often barely reaching three feet in height (Kelly 1969). However, the Mountain Ash (E. regnans) of the wet, rich loamed Victorian and Tasmanian forests, often exceeds heights of 320 feet, making it the tallest Australian species and the tallest hardwood in the world. Most forest species rarely attain heights of 150 feet, while woodland species generally do not exceed 80 feet but have a short, thick trunk with heavy limbs to support a broad, spreading crown. Sometimes the same species occurs in both forests and woodlands, assuming the form characteristic of the vegetative type in which it grows (Hall, Johnston, and Chippendale 1970). A number of species exhibit a shrub like dwarf form in which several stems arise from a large, woody rootstock composed of stem tissue (called a lignotuber) imbedded in shallow soil. ... • 40. Poverty Between Poverty And Poverty Poverty eradication has become one of the main goals within the last few decades as shown through the recently expired Millennium Development Goals and the subsequent Sustainable Development Goals. Poverty, in turn, is influential as high poverty causes worse health outcomes within a country. Poverty severely affects several aspects of quality of life, such as health, happiness. This makes it important to evaluate the quality of life within a country. Poverty and Inequality have been linked together by the World Bank in their report. This chapter will look at how the economic inequality within Japan, the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil have either increased or decreased poverty within a country. The indicators this chapter shall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As previously shown, most economic indicators have flaws. The problem with a poverty line is that a slight difference in the poverty line may cause a seismic shift in the number of people considered in poverty. It also does not take into consideration prices around the world unless PPP and a basket is never truly uniform through the world. In contrast to absolute poverty, relative poverty is measured by a person s income in relation to people from the same country or region. Relative poverty, as measured by OECD this is 60% of the median income salary. Also, if the hypothesis that humans relate our achievements and happiness according to a reference group, then relative poverty is just as if not more important than absolute poverty especially on quality of life. So, whilst looking at economic inequality, we shall use both relative and absolute poverty stats to help better understand the effect on economic inequality on poverty. As mentioned in Brazil and South Africa in the last couple of decades we have seen accelerated growth with Brazil s growth being considered equal in contrast to the rapidly increasing inequality experienced in South Africa. The above figure shows the available statistics from Brazil and South Africa in absolute poverty reduction from the World Bank; a reputable organisation involved in the poverty reduction ... • 41. Wilfred Owen What is Wilfred Owen s attitude towards WW1 and how is this shown through his poetry? Wilfred Owen was a soldier during world war one. Many of his poems were published posthumously, and now well renowned. His poems were also heavily influenced by his good friend and fellow soldier Siegfried Sassoon. Wilfred Owen was tragically killed one week before the end of the war. During the war Wilfred Owen had strong feelings towards the use of propaganda and war in general, this was due to the horrors he saw during his time on the frontlines. During his time on the battlefield he thought a lot about the war and the feelings he and other soldiers had, and he channelled his thoughts through poetry. In this essay I will compare Dulce et Decorum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in contrast to this Anthem of a Doomed youth starts in a more depressing tone What passing bells for those who die as cattle... only the monstrous anger of the guns these words are trying to tell us that war is not glorious as you do not get a proper funeral, and you die as cattle showing that the life of the soldiers is worth no more than the life of an animal and The description depicts multitudes of people being slaughtered and the nature of war to be full of mass deaths. Owen uses personification to describe the guns Only the monstrous anger of the guns to build up a vivid scene as to how the guns were fired, and how the soldiers perceived them to be. Owen shows that in war there are only the sounds of guns being fired. In war, instead of honouring those who have fallen, more are being killed by the same weapons. Thus giving us a clear indication as to how he felt about war. Anthem of a Doomed Youth tells us how unfortunate it is for a soldier to die in war, this is due to him getting no respect, farewell or burial. Owen constantly compares the war to traditional burial rituals. Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs, The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells; by saying this ... • 42. Animal Testing and The Animal Welfare Act Many scientists claim that without animal testing, medical breakthroughs and research would not have progressed to where it is today. Some people claim that animals do not have rights and mankind naturally has dominion over them, making it acceptable to use them for scientific experimentation. This is simply not true. Animals can feel pain. They can suffer. One critic of animal testing maintains that pain is an intrinsic evil, and any act that causes pain in any other creature is morally wrong (Andre). A scientist should not be allowed to perform any experiment on an animal that they would not perform on a fellow human being. Animal testing is not only inhumane, it is bad science, and in light of other alternatives, it should have been halted decades ago. Millions of people still labor under the delusion that animal experimentation is the only way to test new medications, cosmetics, and household chemicals for human use. The media, experimenters, universities, and lobbying groups have propagated this misconception, arguing for the role animal testing has played in past medical advances and exaggerating the potential for it to lead to new cures ( Animal Testing ). If people took the time to research the actual tests animals are forced to undergo, they would be appalled by the inhumanity of the whole process. There is only one piece of legislation in the United States that regulates animal testing in laboratories. The Animal Welfare Act, first passed in 1966, has not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Stalin Affect The Sovietization Of Eastern Europe Sovietisation of Eastern Europe 1945 1968 World war two saw a grand alliance of Britain, America and Russia created in order to defeat their common enemy, Adolf Hitler. In pursuit of this goal they attended a number of conferences to plan their attacks and to decide on the future of post war Europe. At Teheran in 1943 Churchill voiced concerns about the post war situation in Eastern Europe, he was afraid that victory over the Nazis would leave the USSR in control of Eastern Europe. To prevent this from happening he proposed that the Anglo American s open up a second front in the Balkans.
