Sonnet
The Spenserian Sonnet was named for Edmund Spenser 1552 1599, a 16th century English Poet. The
Spenserian Sonnet inherited the tradition of the declamatory couplet of Wyatt / Surrey although
Spenser used Sicilian quatrains to develop a metaphor, conflict, idea or question logically, with the
declamatory couplet resolving it.
Beyond the prerequisite for all sonnets, the defining features of the Spenserian Sonnet are: a
quatorzain made up of 3 Sicilian quatrains (4 lines alternating rhyme) and ending in a rhyming couplet
metric, primarily iambic pentameter. rhymed, rhyme scheme ababbcbccdcdee. composed with a volta
(a non physical gap) or pivot (a shifting or tilting of the main line of thought) sometime after the 2nd
quatrain. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, while the sonnet finally celebrates America s victory on Manila bay, that extreme joy is yet
destroyed by the first eight verses that shows our fighting spirit though our troubled history has only
lacked its brightness(dimmed).
Perhaps, it should have been sunset over Manila bay because foreigners often enjoy its view during
sunset, but the poet chose moonlight, not because it is more romantic(dramatic effect) but because, as
the poem suggests, it is under cover of darkness that foreigners stole our country from us The deep s
bare bosom that the breeze molests is a metaphor for American colonization.
So in our reading now, we understand that Maramag s insistence on our own scene so fair in fact
becomes a chief motive and inspiration for the Filipino poet. For his own scene is nothing less than his
lost country whose physical and spiritual geography it is his task to imagine and so rediscover. There
is still hope to heal all the wounds
A literary technique (also known as literary device) is any method an author uses to convey their
message.[1] This distinguishes them from literary elements, which exist inherently in literature.

Azide Lab Report
The antagonistic effect of glutamine on Azide 1 mediated light production was tested by increasing the
glutamine concentration from 0.1 to 5mM. The results show a dose dependent inhibition of BLI signal
by L glutamine in HT1080 luc2 and HepG2 luc2 cells. This reduction confirms the signal obtained by
Azide 1 was due to the competitive interference with glutamine uptake. However, a fall in the light
intensity could not be observed in 4T1 RLR cells. This outcome does not mean that Azide 1 did not
compete with L glutamine for the transporter mediated uptake. The reason of no effect observed is
because 4T1 RLR which is a more glucose dependent cell line doesn t have a good affinity for L
glutamine (Fig. 7A), but binds well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
10A). Hence, this proves that L glutamine wouldn t have many chances to compete with Azide 1 for
transporter binding.
To confirm the exact potential mechanism involved in the uptake of Azide 1, a competitive inhibition
was carried out in glutamine dependent cancer cell lines: HT1080 luc2, U87MG luc2 and HepG2 luc2
using the specific inhibitor GPNA for the system ASCT2. The reason for choosing to test the
involvement of this specific type of transporter in the uptake of Azide 1 is because the signal produced
by Azide 1 in HT1080 luc2 and HepG2 luc2 cells could be reduced in the antagonistic effect assay by
using L glutamine which is the natural competitor for binding to glutamine transporter systems ASC
and N. It was also figured out in this study that HepG2 luc2, HT1080 luc2 and U87MG luc2 express
the ASCT2 transporter on the cell surface. GPNA decreased the signal intensity in HT1080 luc2 and
U87MG luc2 cells. This decrease confirms the potential involvement of ASCT2 transporter in Azide 1
uptake. On the other hand, an increase in the BLI signal was obtained in HepG2 luc2 cells. This
outcome likely came from the effect of gamma glutamyl transferase which is an enzyme found in liver
cancer cells (e.g. HepG2 cell) and catalyses the transfer of the gamma glutamyl moiety to an acceptor
to form

Racial Alienation InDistrict 9, Directed By Neill Blomkamp
District 9, a science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp, was released in 2009 based on the
events that took place in South Africa from 1948 to 1994 also known as Apartheid. The movie was
filmed entirely in South Africa and is about an alien spaceship that stalled above Johannesburg twenty
years before the movie takes place. On the spaceship is helpless and starving aliens, also known as
prawns due to their love of scavenging and their physical appearance. The word prawn actually comes
from the parktown prawn , which is a cricket down in South Africa that is considered a pest. The
aliens were hauled together in an area known as District 9 . The film is presented in a found footage
format by featuring some fictional footage along with some real interviews and news footage.
Blomkamp uses several themes in this movie, like racial segregation, alienation, and xenophobia.
These three themes are applied throughout the movie to give a direct correlation between District 9
and the events that took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 1960 to 1983.
Between the years of 1960 and 1983, 3.5 million nonwhite South Africans were removed from their
homes and forced into segregated neighbourhoods, one of the largest mass removals in modern
history. Specifically in 1966, sixty thousand nonwhite South Africans were taken out of an area known
as District 6 , where nonwhites were the majority population, and relocated to the Cape Flats Area.
This area was known as the dumping

My Point Of View Of Franchising Essay
TASK ONE According to my point of view, franchising is simply a technique for extending a business
and distributing goods and services through a permitting relationship. It is a type of business that is
owned and operated by franchisees but that is branded and overseen by a usually national or
multinational company. Franchise is a business that you see in different cities. They are recognizable
because their company logo and products are same. A franchise is a type of business that is the same
all around you go. 1.1 Integrated business operations A term used to characterize an organization that
consolidates two or more operations or divisions and works as a specialty unit. It is likewise called
master franchise. Master franchise is a franchising contract in which the master franchiser hands over
the control of the franchising activities in a specified territory to a person. Single product or service
operations In simple words two or more company operated by single hand is called single products or
service operations. Manufacturing and whole sale Manufacturing and Retail industry is subject to
more opportunities, challenges as well as threats in other words supply the products Manufacturing

Psycho Social Psychology
Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock is a horror movie. This movie was released in 1960, and it is 109 minutes
long. The plotline of the movie Psycho is that a young employee, Marion Crane run away after
stealing $40,000 from her office and get murdered in a motel where she was spending a night due to
the strong storm. The motel was owned by a young man named Norman Bates, and he was living with
his invalid mother in an old house next to the motel. It is not revealed that Norman s mother is invalid
until Lila(Marion s sister) and Sam(Marion s boyfriend) decides to go to the motel in search of
Marion. Lila and Sam initially hired a private detective to search Marion, but unfortunately, the

For example, since the dominant setting of the movie is Norman Bates house and motel, and it is
located in an isolated place which suggests that it is a horror and mystery movie. Moreover, the
isolated setting tells us the character of Norman is lonely and he is more likely to be affected by a
psychological disease.
The choice in Mise En Scene in terms of lightning and shooting angle in the shower scene where
Marion was killed is very interesting. For example, when the killer was trying to kill Marion, the killer
s face was not shown because of the choices made in lighting and shooting angle, which leaves the
audience in suspense about the killer s identity. Also, the choices made in dressing the murderer as an
old lady convince the audience to believe that it is Norman s mother who has killed Marion.
The shower scene is very long and it is pivotal to the movie because it is a mixture of horror, suspense,
and mystery. Most of the shots in the shower scene are close up shots, including the shots of the
shower water and shots of Marion s body which includes but not limited to her legs before the murder
and her back, face, and hands after the murder. These close up are intended to feel emotions and create
suspense for the audience. Apart from this, the shower scene shows continuity cutting because
different shots are taken and edited to show a consistency of the scene in the

Literary Devices In The Book Thief
Promp 2 Liesel Meminger was a girl that went through a lot throughout her life. During our short time
of reading about her life we saw her go through so many emotions, struggles, and different changes.
Throughout The Book Thief by Markus Zusak we see a girls story during the time of WW2 and the
Holocaust. We read this story of Liesel Meminger and wonder how anyone could ever survive during
a time like this, because for most people this was an extremely awful time to live in. But through his
use of imagery, and other literary devices, Zukas found a way to write a perfect book describing this
girl s life and to show how genuinely hard it was to live during this time. One of the first things we see
Liesel going through is the separation of her and her mother. Which leads to her also losing her
brother due to the fact that he died during their journey to Liesel s new home. This was one of Liesel s
obstacles as when she says There was a chaos of goodbyes. . At first this may not look like it would be
a gigantic obstacle by how it was worded. But once you read into the context of the sentence and take
in how Zukas worded it to fill your mind with the imagery of Liesel s thoughts you see how hard this
is for her. Her brother has just died, and on the same day that she realizes she will never see him again
she is forced away from her mother and she will also never see her mother again. During this time of
the book this might have been something that happened a lot, but

Friedrich Von Hayek Essay
John Maynard Keynes first reached success during 1919 (Marron). His theory for economic success
involved government use of fiscal policy. He believed that during times of downturn, the government
should spend money into new projects, public spending, tax cuts, and transfer payment; which would
lead to money once again circulating. But during times of success booms , the government should
spend less and concentrate on saving for the next crash. He also argued that aggregate demand was the
key to the business cycle. When aggregate demand was low the business cycle would crash, leading to
high unemployment.
Friedrich von Hayek ideas became popular starting around the 1970s (Marron). His argument for
economic success contradicted those of Keynes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we don t try to steer them they won t go berserk. (Ransom)
http://hayekcenter.org/?p=4804
This stanza explains Hayek s beliefs on less government involvement and more freedom to the people
to make decisions. Government spending creates inflation troubles . He wants government to stop
giving money to people that aren t employed because they should be independent. This approach is
laissez faire because he wants people to do what they want by letting the market synchronize with the
people s demands without government intervening let prices work . Prices wont go berserk if their is
no Socialism. All socialism does is lead to sloppy performances if the government plans to steer the
economy. The article explains that the economy might be headed towards a downturn because the
economy growth rate has not increased. Corporations sales and profits are decreasing spending
leading to a drop in aggregate demand. Although employment is high personal savings have gone up
.2% which means consumers are spending less and more cautiously. Consumer spending has been
negative or flat showing signs of a possible recession to come. This reflects Keynes idea that
aggregate demand is correlated with the business

Black Hills Expedition Of 1874 Essay
The Black Hills Expedition of 1874:
How did the Black Hills Expedition of 1874 influence the development of the Black Hills?
Many places not only in South Dakota, but around the world are affected by the events of Custer and
his company. George Armstrong Custer became well known because of his 1874 expedition, when he
discovered gold. The discovery of gold in the Black Hills affected the United States and the world for
over the next 100 years after his discovery. Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota mined 43.9
million ounces of gold and 9.78 million ounces of silver that has been used throughout the world
(Homestake Mine, Wikipedia). They shut down in 2001 due to low gold prices. The Black Hills

They outnumbered Custer s armies by a ratio of 9 to 1. The battle was soon over and all but one of
Custer s soldiers died, including Custer. They were expected to be back from their expedition on
August 30th, but would be many months before people figured out what happened. The battle would
later be known as the Battle of the Little Bighorn.(The Battle of the Little Bighorn, Wikipedia)
The Homestake Mine founded by Fred and Moses Manuel, Alex Engh and Hank Harney started
bringing many workers and families. It operated for about 47 years bringing people and their families
to settle.(Homestake Mine, Wikipedia) Towns were going up and the Black Hills were thriving. Lead
Deadwood was a boom town and is now a tourist s site. Sanford Lab was created on the old site of
Homestake Mine. Here they have found out things that have never been discovered before. The Black
Hills itself rely on the tourists for its economy to function. For all of this, we owe our thanks to
George Armstrong Custer and the Black Hills Expedition of 1874. Without Custer and his discovery
of gold in the Black Hills, the Hills would probably be just a small town in the middle of nowhere and
overlooked by everyone. Now the Black Hills and the area around it are a major attraction from
around America.

The War Of The Roses And Ends With Last English
Covering a period which starts with the Hundred Years War already in full swing, contains the start of
the Wars of the Roses and ends with last English king to die in battle the level of participation of the
aristocracy and the roles which they fulfilled is a natural continuation of the topic, especially given
how kings can be lauded or vilified for their participation or non participation in military matters but it
was the nobility who functioned as military commanders or otherwise notable figures in the battles
who had much greater military command, often give entirely to their discretion. Whether the role

There were fewer high level aristocrats who went along with the Black Prince s chevauchee s in
France during the early 1350 s and more Knights of the Garter, which was an honour often bestowed
on those who came from minor nobility but who rode with the Black Prince.
However the first expedition in the period involved the Earls of Warwick, Oxford and Stafford as well
as a number of knights and each of the three earls was placed in charge of a battalion and, rather than
fighting any French they instead sacked the town of Languedoc. The next was 1359 60 where far more

The Battle of Agincourt had the Dukes of Gloucester and York present who were given command of

Its unfair to other non exempt organizations that follow the rules that proceed with their title, to be
cheated by another who twists the limitations placed on them. Larry Wood the Durham town
administrator touches on the unfairness portrayed. In the newspaper piece written by Laura A. KIernan
titled Battle over core service tax heats up: [City Edition] Wood demonstrates why this can be viewed
as a struggle. Wood said UNH has a number of tax exempt properties, including a bookstore run by
Barnes and Noble, and the New England Center, which is a hotel and restaurant, which he says should
not have be tax exempt. He also said that children of married students who live in tax exempt
university housing are costing the town schools system $7,400 apiece each year. We feel that s not fair.
Wood s words highlight on the fact that its not only unfair due to stretching the regulations, in addition
they are costing us money in the process. In cohesion with the previous disadvantage to the
community another unbeneficial effect caused by churches is due to the growth in numbers of
organizations and lack of tax individual tax payer are forced to pick up the slack of these

to respect people and treat them the way she wanted to be treated. I think that Marion Pritchard is a
hero based on this evidence. People may not think she is a hero by her saying this, By 1945, I had lied,

her but I think she is a hero. She saved people and mostly children from dying. Marion is no Oskar

The Agency theory arises when business unit managers want to maximize their bonus potential by act

Thaw is the son of a William Thaw and Mary Sibbet. Harry was born in Pittsburgh. He was born in

genetics as his mother herself was known for the abuse she did to her servants and uncontrollable
temper. In this article, it is mentioned that he murdered an architect named Stanford White over
jealousy because White was having an affair with his wife which is Evelyn Nesbit. However, I would
say there is a reason of why Nesbit was not faithful to him. Nesbit wrote a book called Autobiography
Prodigal Days and mentioned a lot of negative habits about her husband. For instance, she stated in
her book that her husband is a sadist. This is because Thaw have sex very roughly in a punishing way
and he relates slaves to his wife while they were together. Nesbit mentioned that the sex was more of
an attack than actual love. Besides that, Nesbit says that he has cocaine addiction and thinks that his
masturbating routine might be one of the causes for his insanity. According to Nesbit, Thaw often
wants to feel superior and control around objects that he desires. Other than that, he gets excessively
jealous especially when Nesbit is around men. His excessive jealousy is abnormal as he murdered

My Hair and I Essay
My Hair and I
At some point in a woman s life, she is, if like most women, unhappy with her hair. A woman with
straight hair wishes for curly ringlets. A woman with curly hair wants stick straight locks. Thick and
coarse desires to be fine and thinner. Fine and thin begs for thick hair.
I was one of those women. My hair has an energy, personality, and life of her own. I refer to my hair
as she because, although by technical definition my hair is not a separate living being, and although I
have no proof of her life to show others, I know that she not only grows and reproduces (two
characteristics by which many measure life), but she responds to stimuli, shows emotions, and can
reason.

that point. But one thing was clear, she was not going to do whatever I wanted her to.
When I was 13, I decided to grow out my pageboy style. This decision was not difficult (but

Naturally, during adolescence, I decided to test my independence, forge new boundaries, and find my

Our morning routine was usually the showdown. Every morning, I trudged to the bathroom, still
wiping the sleep from my eyes, vaguely aware of the struggle ahead of me. There, in the reflection of
the mirror, my head would still be wearing yesterday s styling havoc. My hair would look back at me
with a wide grin, while dancing a jig on top of my head, and say, What are we gonna do today?!?
No! I would whine, jabbing a brush indiscriminately into the tangled

History Of The Traditional Ira
History of the Traditional IRA
The Individual Retirement Account, or IRA, was formed in 1974 under the Employee Retirement
Income Security Act (ERISA) (Holden, Ireland, Leonard Chambers, Bogdan/Investment Company
Institute, 2005). When the Traditional IRA was first created, it had two functions: the first was to give
tax benefits to workers who contributed to an IRA without an existing employee retirement plan, and
the second was to allow funds in an existing employee retirement account to be relocated to an IRA
when he or she changed jobs or retired (Holden, Ireland, Leonard Chambers, Bogdan/Investment
Company Institute, 2005). Since then, eligibility requirements and contribution limits have changed,
and different forms of IRAs were established.
How a Traditional IRA Works
An individual retirement account (IRA) is an account for individuals to save money for their
retirement and receive certain tax advantages on the money saved. With this account, the individual
makes yearly contributions based on his or her income, and as a result, the individual obtains income
tax benefits. The earnings grow without being taxed until retirement. Depending on the amount of
income the individual earns, a portion or all of his or her earnings may be tax deductible (Rejda
McNamara, 2013, p. 285). Two requirements must be satisfied in order to establish a Traditional IRA:
first, he or she must be younger than 70 ½ years old; second, the individual must have taxable
earnings throughout

after the Gallo tour I have many questions answered. In this paper you will learn many different things
about how a production plant runs and what they continually do to make improvements in all aspects
of their business. Some focal points of this paper will be on the Gallo Winery operational strategy,
what type of processes are utilized in the plant, and whether this company uses a lean production
process or not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next step in the process is called the rinser, where the bottles are then inverted and rinsed to wash
away contaminants most importantly any excess pieces of glass. Then the bottles are moved to the
eight different types of fillers that Gallo uses, the fill height is either adjustable or depends on the
pressure of the wine in the surge tank. Once the bottles are filled with the selected product, they are
then fed from a hopper upstairs in FW to be corked or capped. After being closed and completely
sealed, the products is transformed to the Labeller machine which either uses cold glue or pressure
labels. The labels are either spliced or continuous, with the front label pressured on and the back label
is put on with cold glue. Once all other steps are completed the final process that Gallo uses is the
packing step which all bottles are placed into the box, and the box is glued and closed mechanically.
Some lines use a Palletizer machine which is a device that is used to stack factory goods and products
on to a pallet. To make sure everything runs smoothly and on time Gallo has a good support system to
help them continually moving forward. It starts with the Production Engineer that has the task of
making sure everything is running sufficiently. There is a section called Training and Technology
Integration, which manages the staffing and skills development of all operational employees. Then

November Cotton Flower By Jean Toomer Analysis
Jean Toomer s poem November Cotton Flower is a curious narrative work which tells a tale of
surprise and superstition. It chronicles the story of a grim and lifeless November, where water reserves
have dried, birds are dying, and cotton plants are bare. This barren landscape is flipped on its head,
however, when a lone cotton plant defies everything people know about plant growth and sprouts a
flower. The sudden blooming of this flower serves as a potent analogy for the Harlem Renaissance, a
sudden outburst of creation, culture, and connection, that drew millions of African Americans from
across the country. The Harlem Renaissance was a massive beacon of hope for many African
Americans. The great wealth of artistic and social innovations

The Cuban Missile Crisis Of 1962
The Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 was the closest the world came to nuclear war. The Soviet Union
shipped nuclear missile to Cuba clandestinely and were discovered by the United States. While the
confrontation did not result in open nuclear warfare between the US and USSR, the US Intelligence
Community (IC) was taken by surprise. How did the IC not notice the buildup of Soviet nuclear
weapons in Cuba? The information was there despite the best Russian denial and deception attempts.
The United States intelligence and military analysts allowed themselves to be deceived by the
Russians because they did not anticipate the Russians would station nuclear weapons outside the
Soviet Union. A closer look will show why the Russian deception worked for so long and why the US
was forced to react quickly to a crisis that could have easily spiraled into nuclear war. In October of
1962, a US U 2 reconnaissance flight over Cuba yielded photographic evidence that the Soviet Union
had installed medium and intermediate range ballistic missiles. President Kennedy over the next
thirteen days frantically tried to get the missiles removed without a war. President Kennedy went with
his Executive Committee working group and set up a naval quarantine of Cuba and gave Soviet
Premier Khrushchev a deadline for removing the missiles. After six days of diplomatic overtures and
increased military tensions, the Soviet Union withdrew the missiles. President Kennedy agreed to
respect the Castro

Choosing The Right Of Passage For Teenagers
My fellow city council I agree that you should pass this curfew making it were it is illegal for
teenagers to be out past ten on weekdays and midnight on the weekends. For one teenagers do not
need to be out past these times anyways because if they are most likely nothing could will come out of
it. Nextel it the right of passage for a teenager to have a curfew for generations parents have given
their kids a curfew it is just teenagers never hardly lesson to them. Giving teenagers a curfew keeps

Encounters At The Heart Of The World By Elizabeth Fenn
When the jury and judges awarded Elizabeth Fenn the 2015 Pulitzer Prize in History for her book,
Encounters at the Heart of the World: A History of the Mandan People, their citation described the
book as an engrossing, original narrative showing the Mandans, a Native American tribe in the
Dakotas, as a people with a history.
Strange phrase, a people with a history. Is there a people without a history? Or did the judges perhaps
mean a people with a recorded history ? If we set these questions aside, we encounter a further
conundrum: Under the rules for the Pulitzer Prize in History, the award goes to a distinguished and
appropriately documented book upon the history of the United States. But this is a book about the
Mandan.
Notwithstanding questions about how the Pulitzer judges and juries understood what they were doing,
Fenn s remarkable and remarkably well written book richly deserves the Pulitzer Prize. United States
history cannot be understood apart from its entanglement with the Indigenous Peoples of the land. In

Compare And Contrast The End Of History And Fukuyama
The end of the Cold War was not just a politically significant event but also an important intellectual
milestone, where academics, researchers and intellectuals examined the consequences that its end
would concur. Fukuyama s The End of History and Huntington s Clash of Civilizations are two of
such explorations but contrast each other significantly. Fukuyama predicts a future of peace, or
minimal conflict, amidst the spread of Western liberal democracy, a system of government he believes
has been actualized as perfect in Hegel s realm of consciousness whereas Huntington argues that
conflict will stem from civilizational differences, owing to the rise in civilization consciousness. I will
start my essay by briefly summarizing the main arguments of each article, after which I will attempt to
critique each one before drawing comparisons between the two.

They can essentially both be viewed as imperialists in the disguise of academia. In trying to argue that
fascism and communism were imperialist forces that the West defeated, Fukuyama forgot to consider
that the capitalism itself is one of those forces, guided by capital gain, and exploitation. In that sense,
when he argues about the appreciation of American culture in other countries, it becomes a new
imperialism of culture where there is a new global proletariat of weaker countries who can t afford to
have protectionist economies to safeguard their values because then the West wont help them.

How To Achieve Goals In Life Essay
Some people are successful because they are destined to be such. But most people are more successful
because they are determined to reach this goal. We just know what we want and how to achieve it. You
would probably have laid out your plans for your life already, and that you would exhaust all efforts
just to attain what you desire. But sometimes, we question, how come no matter how hard you try to
perfect things the way you planned it, circumstances would not allow it? You start thinking, were your
efforts not enough to achieve your goals? Or maybe it is just not meant to be? Some people may be
too controlling of their lives and get burnt out fast. When this happens, your mindset tends to shift and
they turn into a complete opposite of what they used to be. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Just when you think you are good, you can actually be better. Never settle for mediocre, but try
surprising yourself and reach far beyond what you can imagine. Your success in life does not rely on
fate, but it depends on the effort you put in achieving your goals in life. The quote has a similar theme
with the first two lines of the second stanza in the poem If . It is okay to dream and visualize your
goals in life. But do not let it control you without making it into reality. In life, you may experience
the highest of the highs and lowest of the lows, which will both teach you to become a better person.
Know that we all have our strengths and limitations, which defines who we are. Correlating the quote,
the poem If and the poem Still I Rise altogether, they all speak about knowing one s self serving
worth, not relying on chances or what other people dictate, but rather making your dream into reality
despite the difficulties you will face in life. You make your choice and you will be responsible for

In Rome, large urinal pots typically were put on street corners. Periodically, fullers (the Roman
version of a not so dry cleaner) would empty them and use the contents in the process of laundering
and bleaching togas, tunics, and other clothing.
In many Roman cities there were public toilets. Such facilities were typically just rectangular shaped
rooms (some seating as many as 100 people). Arranged along several of the walls of these rooms were
long stone benches each with a row of keyhole shaped openings cut into it. Water running down drains
underneath the benches would flush waste away into the sewers.
Conclusion on how all of these innovations impact us

The dish Prawns(shrimp) in Cassava sauce(Bobó de camarão) is made with ingredients that includes
shrimps, cassava (similar to yucca), and tomato sauce. The first step is marinating shrimps in lime
juice, salt, and pepper. Then the shells and heads of the shrimps are boiled and simmered in water,
which will be use it later to make the tomato sauce. The cassava is then peeled and boiled with an
onion and bay leaves. After the cassava has cooked, the ropey fibers are removed. Then the cassava
has to be mashed while adding coconut milk until soft. Next, the shrimps are briefly fried. Chopped
tomato, tomato puree, the onion that was previously boiled, and the prawn stock are simmered in a
pan to make a tomato sauce. The mashed cassava and coriander(cilantro) are mixed together with the
tomato sauce in the pan. This delicious and rich in flavor dish is then topped with the fried shrimp and
served with steamed rice on the side. This recipe has such unique and flavorful characteristics.
Although I thought the consistency of the sauce would be thinner, the texture came out to be a little

A Perfect Day For Bananafish Short Story
Experience, which destroys innocence, also leads one back to it. James Baldwin. A Perfect Day for
Bananafish by J.D. Salinger, and Home by George Saunders depicts the search the protagonists,
Seymour and Mikey, go through to retrieve their innocence that they once lost while fighting in the
war. Fighting in any war is absolutely terrifying and can leave permanent damage on someone forever
emotionally and mentally, thus leading them to lose their innocence. The effects that the war has left
on them and how it impacts their lives are visible in multiple ways. Both short stories A Perfect Day
for Bananafish and Home demonstrate the criticism against the materialistic world, the barriers to
effective communication and the elusive search for childhood and home. To begin with, A Perfect Day
for Bananafish and Home reveal the judgment against the materialistic society by Seymour s
realization of his wife constantly luxuriating in wealth and how he condemns his respective society,
and by Mikey expressing his anger towards his materialistic society due to the actions of his family,
and the differences in wealth. A Perfect Day for Bananafish features Seymour who has returned home
from World War II to his materialistic and superficial wife, Muriel. He notices how she constantly

with similes that create images of elevation, to establish the speaker s strength to continue after

By placing an example of the speaker s self esteem between two different displays of the speaker s

The people will be submitted to a dictatorship. That s why freedom of speech is so important because
is the main and the introductory part to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. The founding fathers
wrote this right to make sure that United States will be a different country, a better country where
everyone could understand each other and that what happened to them (British government) will not
happen ever again. In a democratic government also depends on freedom of press and freedom of
assembly. Freedom of press is the occurrences that happen every day that are informed or detailed
through television, newspaper, internet, magazines or speech without adding or removing any type of
information that do not benefit a particular sector. And also is that the people have the right to have
their own type of press to express their ideas. Today, freedom of press is a utopia because every
country has their own secrets, and covers important information to their citizens. With freedom of

Rocky Mountain Locust Essay
First part (physical description): Jackson: The Rocky Mountain Locust, Melanoplus spretus, resembles
the common grasshopper. It is of the Acridinae or short horned grasshopper, family, a family found all
through North America, distinguished by a spine located near where the first two legs attach. The
Rocky Mountain Locust was 20 35 mm in length, or around 1 inch long. The Locust could also rub its
legs together to chirp and had wings were long and capable of flight. The wings stretched further past
its abdomen in comparison to its closest living relative, Melanoplus sanguinipes, the red legged
grasshopper. The Rocky Mountain Locust was migratory, swarming from California to North Dakota
and Texas.
Second part (behavioral characteristics):
Artemis: Locusts have two phases: 1) a phase in which they are solitary, and 2) a phase in which they
swarm together in large groups, this is called the gregarious phase . The locusts used to swarm every 7
12 years and would cover huge areas. One swarm in 1875 was said to be 110 miles wide and 1800
miles long and was tracked by telegraph. This swarm has gone into the record books as the largest
mass of animals in recorded history. It was a lot of insects! Locusts swarm after a large enough group
has gathered together, usually after periods of rain, which led to an increase in the plants that the
insects eat. If enough locusts group together, they will stimulate the release of a chemical called

Slip In Nb Lab Report
Slip in bcc metals has a lot in common, although each material has its own subtleties [70].
Investigation of slip in Nb dates to over 60 years ago, when several researchers deformed single
crystal Nb under different experimental conditions [80, 84, 89 91]. More attention has been put into
Nb over the past few decades, as it became the material of choice to build SRF cavities. The following
paragraphs will concentrate on slip in high purity Nb at room temperature, which is the condition of
SRF cavity manufacturing.
Maddin and Chen used optical slip trace analyses and X ray Laue diffraction to identify slip only on
{110} planes in Nb at room temperature in both tension and compression across the unit triangle [80].
In the work of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comparison using the {110} slip systems or a combination of both {110} and {112} slip systems does
not give the same correlation. The rotation of tensile axes can also be explained by the dominance of
{112} slip systems at yield [48].
A ratio between the shear stress of the two most stressed intersecting {112} slip systems below 1.1
correlates well with hardening at yield, suggesting that the combined twinning/anti twinning and non
glide shear stress effects may only alter the critical resolved shear stress by a small amount [48]. Thus,
many of these details may not be necessary for inclusion into practical models for the deformation of
large grain Nb. In fact, initial results from Mapar et al. suggest that non Schmid effects are small in
Nb, and surprisingly, the Schmid based model predicts the stress strain behavior of the Ningxia tensile
samples better than the non Schmid model in most cases [92].
The dominance of {112} slip at yield followed by {110} slip for the rest of deformation appears to
comply with the theory of Seeger et al. [48, 85], which suggests that the high purity screw dislocation
core relaxation is on {112} planes, and impurities change the core relaxation to {110} planes. This
indicates that the total

The two cities selected for this report are to include the city of Arvada and the City of Compton. Both
coming from a long distance, the reports and statistical number between the two are jaw dropping. The
major broad topics that will be focused on will include but not limited to population, education, and
wealth statistics such as poverty level and income level.

Arvada, was founded in 1870 and incorporated in 1904. A brief history and statistic on the city of

The second city also selected for this report is located just south of Los Angeles California, the City of
Compton founded on May 11, 1888 was the eighth city to be incorporated. A brief history on Compton
and its population is that according to the U.S Census Bureau in 2010, the total population size was at
96,455 residents. This number of residents is lower than what was expected to see in California. After
further investigation in the website, after five year span in 2015, the population of Compton raised to
97,955 residents. Although the smaller population growth isn t what it seems to be like in Arvada
Colorado. But in 2016 in Compton California the total population size decreased to 97,550 residents.
A decrease in 400 residents within the one year span. Both cities roughly over 1,000 miles apart do
share some similarities and differences between them.
The first pivotal concept between the two cities is on education. Education is key to moving up within
the world. Being more educated in this life means that you gain status, and gain power. Education is a
solution for many problems that may arise in the future and have a significant impact on various
studies including incarceration rate. Nonetheless, the data found on the percentage of high school

The Odyssey, Medea, And Oedipus The King
While our class has been covering different aspects of Greek civilization, I was assigned to read the
literature from that time period. Some examples of the literature I read was The Iliad, The Odyssey,
Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings show direct relations to the concepts and ideas that
occurred in Greek civilization during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes throughout
these stories are religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality towards others
are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views of the Greek
civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The Greeks were known to have
been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple gods/goddesses. They believed these gods

One important value the Greeks held was hospitality. In The Odyssey, Odysseus travels through many
different places. As he encounters new people, they often welcome him in immediately. In fact,
hospitality was so common that whenever Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by cyclops, he
assumes he is welcome and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of hospitality in the literary
works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects with their religious
beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality to others on behalf of their
gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One example of this would be in the Iliad, where
Achilles welcomes in other men such as Odysseus to his hut and prepares them food. He does this
before asking about their intentions. This seems a little weird by today s standards, as this happened
before Achilles had joined their side in

Analysis Of Disney Company s Recreation Of Public Domain...
Once upon a time there were gripping tales shared between generation to generation and continuously
passed down. The listener s focus was on the story s message and not its possible profit allowed those
listeners to live happily ever after. Storytelling began long ago traditionally told orally before there
was a shift to written stories and eventually as technology developed became a digital market. Some
of the most famous digitalized tales are fairy tales. Previous to digital development, copyright laws on
fairy tales were slim because there was less concern over copying. This is also how the story s focus
was more on the message and its creative development than the potential profit. The Walt Disney
company s recreation of public domain fairy tales demonstraights how copyright laws have hindered
artistic creativitity within America.
The Walt Disney company, is a beloved as well as infamous company worldwide also notoriously
known for their strict copyright laws. Original American copyright laws stated artistic works were
protected for 28 years and these laws were eventfully extended to a 56 year time frame. The term
continues to increase with the present law set at 75 years. Large companies like Disney continue to
fight for stricter and longer laws because of the revenue they will continue to bring it. (Washington
post). One apparent problem from the extensions is public lacks the ability to build on Disney stories
since they are not in public domain. In the 1997 report

Berger And Berreby Analysis
According to David Berreby, humanities are simply unlike anything else found in nature (par. 24).
Human behavior is so complex that sometimes everyday interactions by humans seem unreal when
studied more in depth. John Berger and David Berreby both discuss how humans view other humans.
Berger claims that humans, especially women, are seen solely as objects or sights. However, although
Berreby claims that humans have subconscious impressions of one another, he would likely disagree
that humans are seen as objects, instead seeing deeper, meaningful human connection within one
another.
Throughout Ways of Seeing, John Berger uses European oil paintings and art to describe the
relationship between women and men and the way that men view women. The entire chapter focuses
primarily on a women s body, how her body is surveyed by men, and how this causes the women to
also survey herself. When first introducing the relationship between men and women, Berger clarifies
women are an object of vision, stating,
One might simplify this by saying: men act and women appear. Men look at women. Women ... Show

Berger s use of European paintings of naked women demonstrate the way women are being seen as
material items instead of something deeper with more substance. Berreby s use of research studies
demonstrate how it has become a part of human nature to find somewhere to belong and something
relatable to identify with. This has lead to the elimination of judgments and the increase of more
connection and understanding between humans. Most importantly, Berger and Berreby both express
the importance of seeing other humans and the realization that the behavior of the human mind simply
seems unreal sometimes. As humans, we are called to view others, but we are called to move past
initial impressions and focus on finding common ground and

  • 2. Sonnet The Spenserian Sonnet was named for Edmund Spenser 1552 1599, a 16th century English Poet. The Spenserian Sonnet inherited the tradition of the declamatory couplet of Wyatt / Surrey although Spenser used Sicilian quatrains to develop a metaphor, conflict, idea or question logically, with the declamatory couplet resolving it. Beyond the prerequisite for all sonnets, the defining features of the Spenserian Sonnet are: a quatorzain made up of 3 Sicilian quatrains (4 lines alternating rhyme) and ending in a rhyming couplet metric, primarily iambic pentameter. rhymed, rhyme scheme ababbcbccdcdee. composed with a volta (a non physical gap) or pivot (a shifting or tilting of the main line of thought) sometime after the 2nd quatrain. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, while the sonnet finally celebrates America s victory on Manila bay, that extreme joy is yet destroyed by the first eight verses that shows our fighting spirit though our troubled history has only lacked its brightness(dimmed). Perhaps, it should have been sunset over Manila bay because foreigners often enjoy its view during sunset, but the poet chose moonlight, not because it is more romantic(dramatic effect) but because, as the poem suggests, it is under cover of darkness that foreigners stole our country from us The deep s bare bosom that the breeze molests is a metaphor for American colonization. So in our reading now, we understand that Maramag s insistence on our own scene so fair in fact becomes a chief motive and inspiration for the Filipino poet. For his own scene is nothing less than his lost country whose physical and spiritual geography it is his task to imagine and so rediscover. There is still hope to heal all the wounds A literary technique (also known as literary device) is any method an author uses to convey their message.[1] This distinguishes them from literary elements, which exist inherently in literature. • 3. Azide Lab Report The antagonistic effect of glutamine on Azide 1 mediated light production was tested by increasing the glutamine concentration from 0.1 to 5mM. The results show a dose dependent inhibition of BLI signal by L glutamine in HT1080 luc2 and HepG2 luc2 cells. This reduction confirms the signal obtained by Azide 1 was due to the competitive interference with glutamine uptake. However, a fall in the light intensity could not be observed in 4T1 RLR cells. This outcome does not mean that Azide 1 did not compete with L glutamine for the transporter mediated uptake. The reason of no effect observed is because 4T1 RLR which is a more glucose dependent cell line doesn t have a good affinity for L glutamine (Fig. 7A), but binds well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 10A). Hence, this proves that L glutamine wouldn t have many chances to compete with Azide 1 for transporter binding. To confirm the exact potential mechanism involved in the uptake of Azide 1, a competitive inhibition was carried out in glutamine dependent cancer cell lines: HT1080 luc2, U87MG luc2 and HepG2 luc2 using the specific inhibitor GPNA for the system ASCT2. The reason for choosing to test the involvement of this specific type of transporter in the uptake of Azide 1 is because the signal produced by Azide 1 in HT1080 luc2 and HepG2 luc2 cells could be reduced in the antagonistic effect assay by using L glutamine which is the natural competitor for binding to glutamine transporter systems ASC and N. It was also figured out in this study that HepG2 luc2, HT1080 luc2 and U87MG luc2 express the ASCT2 transporter on the cell surface. GPNA decreased the signal intensity in HT1080 luc2 and U87MG luc2 cells. This decrease confirms the potential involvement of ASCT2 transporter in Azide 1 uptake. On the other hand, an increase in the BLI signal was obtained in HepG2 luc2 cells. This outcome likely came from the effect of gamma glutamyl transferase which is an enzyme found in liver cancer cells (e.g. HepG2 cell) and catalyses the transfer of the gamma glutamyl moiety to an acceptor to form ... • 4. Racial Alienation InDistrict 9, Directed By Neill Blomkamp District 9, a science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp, was released in 2009 based on the events that took place in South Africa from 1948 to 1994 also known as Apartheid. The movie was filmed entirely in South Africa and is about an alien spaceship that stalled above Johannesburg twenty years before the movie takes place. The word prawn actually comes from the parktown prawn , which is a cricket down in South Africa that is considered a pest. The aliens were hauled together in an area known as District 9 . The film is presented in a found footage format by featuring some fictional footage along with some real interviews and news footage. Blomkamp uses several themes in this movie, like racial segregation, alienation, and xenophobia. These three themes are applied throughout the movie to give a direct correlation between District 9 and the events that took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 1960 to 1983. Between the years of 1960 and 1983, 3.5 million nonwhite South Africans were removed from their homes and forced into segregated neighbourhoods, one of the largest mass removals in modern history. Specifically in 1966, sixty thousand nonwhite South Africans were taken out of an area known as District 6 , where nonwhites were the majority population, and relocated to the Cape Flats Area. This area was known as the dumping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The choice in Mise En Scene in terms of lightning and shooting angle in the shower scene where Marion was killed is very interesting. For example, when the killer was trying to kill Marion, the killer s face was not shown because of the choices made in lighting and shooting angle, which leaves the audience in suspense about the killer s identity. Also, the choices made in dressing the murderer as an old lady convince the audience to believe that it is Norman s mother who has killed Marion. The shower scene is very long and it is pivotal to the movie because it is a mixture of horror, suspense, and mystery. Most of the shots in the shower scene are close up shots, including the shots of the shower water and shots of Marion s body which includes but not limited to her legs before the murder and her back, face, and hands after the murder. These close up are intended to feel emotions and create suspense for the audience. • 7. Literary Devices In The Book Thief Promp 2 Liesel Meminger was a girl that went through a lot throughout her life. During our short time of reading about her life we saw her go through so many emotions, struggles, and different changes. Throughout The Book Thief by Markus Zusak we see a girls story during the time of WW2 and the Holocaust. We read this story of Liesel Meminger and wonder how anyone could ever survive during a time like this, because for most people this was an extremely awful time to live in. But through his use of imagery, and other literary devices, Zukas found a way to write a perfect book describing this girl s life and to show how genuinely hard it was to live during this time. One of the first things we see Liesel going through is the separation of her and her mother. Which leads to her also losing her brother due to the fact that he died during their journey to Liesel s new home. This was one of Liesel s obstacles as when she says There was a chaos of goodbyes. . At first this may not look like it would be a gigantic obstacle by how it was worded. But once you read into the context of the sentence and take in how Zukas worded it to fill your mind with the imagery of Liesel s thoughts you see how hard this is for her. Her brother has just died, and on the same day that she realizes she will never see him again she is forced away from her mother and she will also never see her mother again. During this time of the book this might have been something that happened a lot, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Friedrich Von Hayek Essay John Maynard Keynes first reached success during 1919 (Marron). His theory for economic success involved government use of fiscal policy. He believed that during times of downturn, the government should spend money into new projects, public spending, tax cuts, and transfer payment; which would lead to money once again circulating. But during times of success booms , the government should spend less and concentrate on saving for the next crash. He also argued that aggregate demand was the key to the business cycle. When aggregate demand was low the business cycle would crash, leading to high unemployment. Friedrich von Hayek ideas became popular starting around the 1970s (Marron). This approach is laissez faire because he wants people to do what they want by letting the market synchronize with the people s demands without government intervening let prices work . When the Traditional IRA was first created, it had two functions: the first was to give tax benefits to workers who contributed to an IRA without an existing employee retirement plan, and the second was to allow funds in an existing employee retirement account to be relocated to an IRA when he or she changed jobs or retired (Holden, Ireland, Leonard Chambers, Bogdan/Investment Company Institute, 2005). With this account, the individual makes yearly contributions based on his or her income, and as a result, the individual obtains income tax benefits. The earnings grow without being taxed until retirement. Depending on the amount of income the individual earns, a portion or all of his or her earnings may be tax deductible (Rejda McNamara, 2013, p. 285). Know that we all have our strengths and limitations, which defines who we are. Correlating the quote, the poem If and the poem Still I Rise altogether, they all speak about knowing one s self serving worth, not relying on chances or what other people dictate, but rather making your dream into reality despite the difficulties you will face in life. Some people call it their happy place but for others it s the fantastic innovation that rome has given us. Some people don t know but the toilet originated in rome, it may not have been clean but it was the only way at the time to do your business. If you were rich you would have our own private toilet made of limestone, but for the poor you would have to use a communal bathroom made of wood. they had no toilet paper they used a sponge on a stick submerged in a bucket. In Rome, large urinal pots typically were put on street corners. Periodically, fullers (the Roman version of a not so dry cleaner) would empty them and use the contents in the process of laundering and bleaching togas, tunics, and other clothing. In many Roman cities there were public toilets. Such facilities were typically just rectangular shaped rooms (some seating as many as 100 people). Arranged along several of the walls of these rooms were long stone benches each with a row of keyhole shaped openings cut into it. Water running down drains underneath the benches would flush waste away into the sewers. Conclusion on how all of these innovations impact us As you know we currently don t have wooden toilets but if it weren t for Romans we probably would not have toilets at all, the innovation of toilets and sewage is only possible because of the Romans. toilets would be useless without sewage system or aqueducts and since the Romans did that we don t have to worry about having to take our poop down to the river or cesspit. The first step is marinating shrimps in lime juice, salt, and pepper. Then the shells and heads of the shrimps are boiled and simmered in water, which will be use it later to make the tomato sauce. The cassava is then peeled and boiled with an onion and bay leaves. After the cassava has cooked, the ropey fibers are removed. Then the cassava has to be mashed while adding coconut milk until soft. Next, the shrimps are briefly fried. Chopped tomato, tomato puree, the onion that was previously boiled, and the prawn stock are simmered in a pan to make a tomato sauce. The mashed cassava and coriander(cilantro) are mixed together with the tomato sauce in the pan. This delicious and rich in flavor dish is then topped with the fried shrimp and served with steamed rice on the side. This recipe has such unique and flavorful characteristics. Although I thought the consistency of the sauce would be thinner, the texture came out to be a little thicker and softer than expected. It had very appealing colors, including the orange form the tomato sauce and the green from the cilantro. I really enjoyed every aspect of this dish. Salinger, and Home by George Saunders depicts the search the protagonists, Seymour and Mikey, go through to retrieve their innocence that they once lost while fighting in the war. Fighting in any war is absolutely terrifying and can leave permanent damage on someone forever emotionally and mentally, thus leading them to lose their innocence. The effects that the war has left on them and how it impacts their lives are visible in multiple ways. Both short stories A Perfect Day for Bananafish and Home demonstrate the criticism against the materialistic world, the barriers to effective communication and the elusive search for childhood and home. To begin with, A Perfect Day for Bananafish and Home reveal the judgment against the materialistic society by Seymour s realization of his wife constantly luxuriating in wealth and how he condemns his respective society, and by Mikey expressing his anger towards his materialistic society due to the actions of his family, and the differences in wealth. A Perfect Day for Bananafish features Seymour who has returned home from World War II to his materialistic and superficial wife, Muriel. It is of the Acridinae or short horned grasshopper, family, a family found all through North America, distinguished by a spine located near where the first two legs attach. The Rocky Mountain Locust was 20 35 mm in length, or around 1 inch long. The Locust could also rub its legs together to chirp and had wings were long and capable of flight. The wings stretched further past its abdomen in comparison to its closest living relative, Melanoplus sanguinipes, the red legged grasshopper. The Rocky Mountain Locust was migratory, swarming from California to North Dakota and Texas. Second part (behavioral characteristics): Artemis: Locusts have two phases: 1) a phase in which they are solitary, and 2) a phase in which they swarm together in large groups, this is called the gregarious phase . The locusts used to swarm every 7 12 years and would cover huge areas. One swarm in 1875 was said to be 110 miles wide and 1800 miles long and was tracked by telegraph. This swarm has gone into the record books as the largest mass of animals in recorded history. It was a lot of insects! Locusts swarm after a large enough group has gathered together, usually after periods of rain, which led to an increase in the plants that the insects eat. If enough locusts group together, they will stimulate the release of a chemical called serotonin in their bodies. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Slip In Nb Lab Report Slip in bcc metals has a lot in common, although each material has its own subtleties [70]. Investigation of slip in Nb dates to over 60 years ago, when several researchers deformed single crystal Nb under different experimental conditions [80, 84, 89 91]. More attention has been put into Nb over the past few decades, as it became the material of choice to build SRF cavities. The following paragraphs will concentrate on slip in high purity Nb at room temperature, which is the condition of SRF cavity manufacturing. Maddin and Chen used optical slip trace analyses and X ray Laue diffraction to identify slip only on {110} planes in Nb at room temperature in both tension and compression across the unit triangle [80]. In the work of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparison using the {110} slip systems or a combination of both {110} and {112} slip systems does not give the same correlation. The rotation of tensile axes can also be explained by the dominance of {112} slip systems at yield [48]. A ratio between the shear stress of the two most stressed intersecting {112} slip systems below 1.1 correlates well with hardening at yield, suggesting that the combined twinning/anti twinning and non glide shear stress effects may only alter the critical resolved shear stress by a small amount [48]. Thus, many of these details may not be necessary for inclusion into practical models for the deformation of large grain Nb. In fact, initial results from Mapar et al. suggest that non Schmid effects are small in Nb, and surprisingly, the Schmid based model predicts the stress strain behavior of the Ningxia tensile samples better than the non Schmid model in most cases [92]. The dominance of {112} slip at yield followed by {110} slip for the rest of deformation appears to comply with the theory of Seeger et al. [48, 85], which suggests that the high purity screw dislocation core relaxation is on {112} planes, and impurities change the core relaxation to {110} planes. This indicates that the total ... • 36. The Odyssey, Medea, And Oedipus The King While our class has been covering different aspects of Greek civilization, I was assigned to read the literature from that time period. Some examples of the literature I read was The Iliad, The Odyssey, Medea, and Oedipus The King. These readings show direct relations to the concepts and ideas that occurred in Greek civilization during this time in history. Some of the recurring themes throughout these stories are religion, philosophy, and hospitality. Polytheism, fate, and hospitality towards others are some of the important concepts that were held by the Greeks. The religious views of the Greek civilization is evident throughout the literature of that time period. The Greeks were known to have been a Polytheistic people, who believed in multiple gods/goddesses. They believed these gods constantly interfered with their lives, both in good and bad ways, which is shown in the literature. Not only do the characters pray or converse with these ... In fact, hospitality was so common that whenever Odysseus encounters the island inhabited by cyclops, he assumes he is welcome and begins to eat their food and drink. The concept of hospitality in the literary works connects not only to their civilization in general, but specifically connects with their religious beliefs. I believe it is possible that the Greeks gave hospitality to others on behalf of their gods/goddesses rather than just out of kindness. One example of this would be in the Iliad, where Achilles welcomes in other men such as Odysseus to his hut and prepares them food. He does this before asking about their intentions. • 38. Analysis Of Disney Company s Recreation Of Public Domain... Once upon a time there were gripping tales shared between generation to generation and continuously passed down. The listener s focus was on the story s message and not its possible profit allowed those listeners to live happily ever after. Storytelling began long ago traditionally told orally before there was a shift to written stories and eventually as technology developed became a digital market. Some of the most famous digitalized tales are fairy tales. Previous to digital development, copyright laws on fairy tales were slim because there was less concern over copying. This is also how the story s focus was more on the message and its creative development than the potential profit. The Walt Disney company s recreation of public domain fairy tales demonstraights how copyright laws have hindered artistic creativitity within America. The Walt Disney company, is a beloved as well as infamous company worldwide also notoriously known for their strict copyright laws. Original American copyright laws stated artistic works were protected for 28 years and these laws were eventfully extended to a 56 year time frame. The term continues to increase with the present law set at 75 years. Large companies like Disney continue to fight for stricter and longer laws because of the revenue they will continue to bring it. • 39. Berger And Berreby Analysis According to David Berreby, humanities are simply unlike anything else found in nature (par. 24). Human behavior is so complex that sometimes everyday interactions by humans seem unreal when studied more in depth. John Berger and David Berreby both discuss how humans view other humans. Berger claims that humans, especially women, are seen solely as objects or sights. However, although Berreby claims that humans have subconscious impressions of one another, he would likely disagree that humans are seen as objects, instead seeing deeper, meaningful human connection within one another. Throughout Ways of Seeing, John Berger uses European oil paintings and art to describe the relationship between women and men and the way that men view women. The entire chapter focuses primarily on a women s body, how her body is surveyed by men, and how this causes the women to also survey herself. When first introducing the relationship between men and women, Berger clarifies women are an object of vision, stating, One might simplify this by saying: men act and women appear. Men look at women.
