Comparing Judith, Grendel s Mother, And Wealhtheow
Judith is a very strong woman in this poem, which is very different than how a person would assume
she would act. But it seems that she is in good company in being much stronger than we expect people
to be. We see similarly strong women in Beowulf which I feel is not a coincidence. Both Judith,
Grendel s Mother, and Wealhtheow are super strong in times that you would normally expect them not
to be. But even in actions these two are very different. Where we see Wealhtheow as the person who
brings peace and sets the mood in the halls before battle she isn t the one going out and killing people.
She is strong in the fact that she is the one that Beowulf makes his boast to and that she can act as her
own person but in that time she was not the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is fighting for a reason, much like what we see Judith do in her own story, and for a moment it
would appear that she would have the upper hand in her battle She is very much a person to fear in
battle and isn t afraid to have to fight to get what she feels is right, even though in the end her own
fight is not noble to anyone but her she still fights with the grace of a warrior in battle. Then we get to
Judith who is in her own sense a mixture of these two. She works to take down Holofernes and help
secure a win for her people, so almost in a sense she is being a peace keeper like Wealhtheow would
have been, but instead of using alcohol and not lifting an instrument of war she much like Grendel s
mother takes to fighting to get what she means. In the end she does what is right and we accept that
the death of the man is all in the good for her people. Yet the battle she fought for many is rather
similar to the battle Grendel s Mother waged on Beowulf after her son s murder. So once more I am
not surmised that these two stories follow each other because we see a similar theme in them even
among the women, though only one follows a woman specifically because in both the women are all
strong in their own ways. But in Judith s story we see her combine everything that the pervious
women held separately and make what could be the ultimate

How Did King Henry III Influence The Government
Henry II (1133 1189) was the grandson of Henry I, but only became king after having invaded
England in 1153 and forcing his second cousin, King Stephen to make him heir. He was only able to
invade due to his marriage with Eleanor of Aquitaine, as it made him Lord of Aquitaine and gave him
more power and influence in France. His succession to the throne in 1154 made him commander of an
empire which stretched from northern Scotland to south western Europe. He made various significant
changes to the empire during his rule. He controlled the power of the Church and set in place various
legal reforms which became the basis for the legal system still used today. He was known for being

Essay on Advanced Production Critical Evaluation
Advanced Production Critical Evaluation For my AS production I followed a set brief. I was required
to work in a group to produce a 3 minute trailer for a new horror/thriller movie. In my A2 advanced
production my brief was to work within a group in order to produce a promotional package to
introduce a new band into the mainstream music industry. The package could take any form, using a
variety of medias. We started the project by doing individual research into the music industry. Through
my research I aimed to gain in depth knowledge and understanding of the industry. I researched the
style, form, genre and identity of album covers, music videos and record labels. I found all media

The song is very emotive, with evocative lyrics. It was immediately clear to all of us that we should
extend these qualities into our video. We wanted to extend the meaning of the song through our media
productions, extending the viewer s involvement with and enjoyment of the band. We chose to
produce a music video, suitable for mainstream TV. Establishing band idenity The song has a clear
Indie style with its grungy guitar and vocals. It also has a very individual style and sound. We felt that
our band could be marketed as an Indie band brandishing a new style. Whilst the band would be very
stylised, its main concern is for it s music. The bands style would grow from their passion for their
music and are the muso type. It would be very bold and artistic with its other media productions just
as it is with its music. The band would not nesicerialy be a mainstream product but would have
mainstream appeal, similar to such bands as radio head and the white stripes. We decided that Bus
stop boxer would be the single release from the band s new album. Bus stop boxer would be the most
accessible song to a mainstream audience on the album. The song has a conventional popular form
with its intro, verses, chorus and getaur solos. Bus stop boxer also has a conventional indie style with

Advantages Of Qatari Diamond
Competitive Advantage of Qatari Firms Based on Michael Porter s Diamond
In his book The Competitive Advantage of Nations Michael Porter examines modern global economy
and explains the theory of competitive advantage through a reflection of a diamond which maintains
its growth and prosperity. Porter who is considered the father of modern businesses and promoter of
notions of competitiveness produced a number of books on strategic management in which he bridged
the gap between national and international economics. His latest book is specifically the broadest in
scope because it shifts the focus of attention from the performance of the firm to the performance of
the nation whole. However, the focus of this paper discusses how a developing nation like Qatar is

This paper further discussed Porter s framework at a nation s level, choosing Qatar as its pick of a
developing country that has crossed the borderline to global markets among other internationalized
nations via its massive production of natural gasses, oils and fuels. Through Porter s diamond
framework, the gap was bridged between economic sciences and having insights to the system of a
country like Qatar and understanding the how the 4 determinants work as a well functioning cycle,
despite it being more dynamic and complex than it seems. Finally, Porter s book serves as a portal for
theorists to analyze countries that are not usually written about such as ones in the Arabian region like
Qatar, Oman, etc. However, at the empirical level this paper proved that such complex framework can
be applied to selective countries that has high competitive tendencies and what qualifies it to fit with

Buying Feminine Hygiene Products For People Magazine s...
ADVERTISER AND MEDIUM The advertiser for this product is Energizer, who is a manufacturer.
This advertisement was shown in People magazine s July 2015 edition. MARKET SITUATION
Carefree is a lesser known and lesser used brand in comparison to its competitors, so its important for
their ads to really resonate with their target market. Competition in this industry is mainly between
Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost leaves Carefree out of the running. Carefree products are
sold in Target, Walmart, and drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Another thing to consider
with this industry are the consumer attitudes towards these products. A lot of women tend to be
embarrassed when buying feminine hygiene products because of the social stigma around periods, but
the fact is that they still have to buy them. So, when the consumers go to the store to purchase these
type of products they ll usually purchase the same product every time because they know it works,
they know where it is in the store, and they know the price, which makes the whole process go
quickly. TARGET MARKET CUSTOMER PROFILE This print ad was published in People
magazine. 70% of people s readers are women, the majority of them falling into the 18 44 age range,
with median age of 38. Most of the women readers are employed, with college degrees. Another
percentage of readers are women with one or more children in their household (42%). Although the

American Influence On Puritan Society
After the Protestant Reformation, a group practicing Puritanism left Great Britain to the Netherlands
for the ability to practice their religion freely. However, the Puritans did not favor the idea of their
children growing up outside of British influences despite having the privilege of freedom of religion.
In 1620, the first group of Puritan settlers sailed to North America aboard the Mayflower. It wasn t
until 1629 when John Winthrop delivered his city upon a hill sermon that created a new perspective
and goal for the growing Puritan society. Economic, political, and social difficulties were faced, but
religion stayed a constant center for the Puritan settlements. Both failures and successes molded the
Puritan settlement into what it was in the seventeenth century, which leads into the influences left by
the Puritans in today s society. Upon the ship Arabella, one of nine ships that transferred Puritans to
the New World, John Winthrop wrote his sermon titled A Model of Christian Charity . He delivered
this sermon to approximately nine hundred Puritans voyaging from the Netherlands ... Show more

Strict guidelines were placed to ensure order, the promise for each person reaching his or her own
predestination, and unity. The Puritans built a theocracy with elements from a democracy. Any man
was able to vote as he had a church membership, which was rare to not have in the early years of the
Puritan settlement. All members had to attend town meetings regardless of his or her social status.
More often than not, Sunday morning sermons in cooperated town meetings as the entire community
was in attendance anyways. While Puritan leaders were able to keep the majority of the population

Prejudice In Baseball
To be created in a certain period of time or certain types of people alter the way one s mindset is
raised. Spending significant amounts of time with certain people will influence one will think or
judge. Prejudice and stereotypes work hand on hand. Prejudice is how one feels about someone
positive or negative knowingly and non knowingly. Many of the stereotypes one judges another is due
to the judgement that is created for one with certain characteristics. It depends on the person if they
would let a stereotype define who they are and how they treat others. The stereotypes in the sports
community has been around for a long time, it is up on the player if they are going to be limited based

majority of the National Basketball Association are black players. An athlete is restricted to perform to
their full potential and prove the stereotype wrong because of the judgment that was made because of
their appearance. Not only does a stereotype restrain but also expects so much from one person. To
say there was a basketball game in play at the moment and a black is to be blocked by a white man is
heading to the basket, just as the black man is about to make their shot it is blocked by the white man.
Many fans are in shock but why? Many were expecting the black man to make it simply because he is
black, he was made to make it. The black man was expected to make the shot without any trouble,
while the white man was supposed to struggle greatly trying to stop the shot that was meant to happen.
While the white man tried proving a stereotype wrong, it is the black man who is getting the most
attention because he let many down. An athlete is judged and expected to do good in the sport they are
represented by their race. For example, privileged whites are superior in the sports involving one to be

The Musical Genre Of Reggae
The musical genre, reggae, was originally coined in the 1960s. Derived from rege rege Jamaican for
rags or ragged clothing the genre was used to describe the raggedy music style found in Jamaica at the
time. Reggae incorporates the traditional Jamaican music such as mento and ska, rhythm blues, and
rocksteady. Ska characteristics such as the walking bass line of the guitar and piano off beats are used
in reggae. However, ska is much faster than reggae, so the use of rocksteady in the genre slows the ska
tempo. Reggae songs are heavily backbeated, meaning the music has highly emphasized second and
fourth beats; this style is typically found in African based musical genres. In reggae s foundation,
artists typically wrote of love, but the seventies foresaw the use of socio political and religious lyrics.
To English listeners, reggae lyrics are nearly incomprehensible. For example, Jah means God, and
Ganga is the Jamaican slang term for marijuana, a medical herb Rastafarians smoked to feel closer to
God. Since those not of this faith do not understand the importance of marijuana, reggae lyrics often
get misinterpreted as getting high.
Never the less, reggae music first rose to international acclaim in the 1970s following the release of
the movie, The Harder They Came, a story of a young man traveling through urban Jamaica. The
movie s soundtrack was comprised entirely of reggae music, skyrocketing the genre into the
mainstream. Despite the movie s success in

Parallel Prefix Adder ( Ppa )
Abstract:
Parallel Prefix Adder (PPA) is one of the fastest types of adder that had been created and developed.
Some of the common types of parallel prefix adders are Brent Kung, Kogge Stone, Han Carlson and
Ladner Fischer adders. This paper involves an investigation of the performances of these adders in
terms of computational delay, interconnect usage and power. The investigation and comparison for all
these adders was conducted for 8 bit size. By using the XILINX 14.5 design software, the designs for
above mentioned adders were developed. The simulation result produced the vector waveform which
then shows the computational delay; interconnect usage and power for the adders. Hence, this project
is significant in showing which of these adders being tested perform better in terms of computational
delay, interconnect usage and power.
Key words: Low power; parallel prefix adder; carry save adder; ripple carry adder; han carlson adder
I. INTRODUCTION
The fundamental operations involved in any Digital systems are addition and multiplication. Addition
is an indispensible operation in any Digital, Analog, or Control system. Fast and accurate operation of
digital system depends on the performance of adders[1]. The main function of adder is to speed up the
addition of partial products generated during multiplication operation. Hence improving the speed by
reduction in area is the main area of research in VLSI system design. Over the last decade many types

the USSR and communism. Subsequently, with the election of the American president Eisenhower and

The link between Magnetism and electricity became evident in 1820. This relationship is important
because electricity develops by the spinning of magnets around a coil of copper wire. In order to
produce electricity a fuel source must spine the magnets. Electricity can be used from anything from
communication sistemes to the everyday lightbulb.

Essay on War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History
War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History
Count Lev Tolstoy wrote abundantly on the philosophical issues that he felt were universally
important. One of the most prolific examples of this is his view of history. This is set out most clearly
and most famously in his largest work, War and Peace. As Tolstoy claimed himself in a public
statement on the work, War and Peace is what the author wanted and was able to express in that form
in which it was expressed. Not only do the themes and incidents in the novel reflect his theory of
history, Tolstoy iterates this in less narrative terms in the twelve chapters of the Second Epilogue,
described as, A general discussion on the historians study of human life, and on the ... Show more

As Tolstoy said, What I have expressed in the epilogue of the novel, without quotations and
references, is not the momentary fancy of my mind but the inevitable conclusions of seven years of
work, which I had to do.
The Second Epilogue can be split up into three sections1, in section one, comprising chapters 1 to 3,
Tolstoy reviews various schools of historiography, in section two, comprising chapters 4 to 7, he deals
with the question of nature and power and what determines the movements of peoples, in section
three, comprising chapters 8 to 12, he discusses the problem of free will.
The first section has been widely disregarded as a limited and anachronistic description of modern
historiography and the logocentric reliance on the presumption that what he feels is important, is
important for self evident reasons. It is often argued that Tolstoy gives an artificial impression of
historians, criticising them for things he is wrong in thinking they have claimed. But what is important
is that through doing this, Tolstoy establishes what is important for him, for his view of history. He
states that in order to explain the movements of people, there

George Peter Murrdock Incest Taboo
The incest taboo has been rigid regulation that has been found in majority of cultures. The incest taboo
forbids the sexual intercourse or marriage between any types of kin. This rule appears in many
cultures or clan members and they emphasize that any relationship between family members is a taboo
and should not take part in it. However, there are also cultures that actually prescribe and allow these
types of relationships between close family members. This incest taboo is ultimately up to the culture
and how they perceive it. George Peter Murdock writes about his cross culture findings about the
incest, as do many other writers. Most of these writers talk about the origins of the incest taboo and
the positive functions for not part taking in any type of incest.

Our Secret Susan Griffin Analysis
Susan Griffin uses a passage in her essay Our Secret to describe the experiences of a woman who
survived the Holocaust. She writes that at the time, World War II had not yet started, nor the mass
arrests or many of the other events that led to the outbreak of persecution of the Jewish peoples. She
writes that this woman, then just a girl, found herself in a group of children who were tormenting her
young friend for being Jewish. She joined them, afraid to be isolated, and her mother immediately
caught her and reprimanded her. In a way, this single story represents both metaphors that Griffin used
in her essay to describe human interaction the connectedness of the biological cellular system, and

Psychopathy And Psychopathy
Psychopathy is a term to describe a personality disorder, from a non specified cluster, obtained by
individuals who posses certain characteristics that are defined as chronically amoral and antisocial
behavior with lack of emotion or feelings of remorse. While not all criminals are psychopaths and not
all people diagnosed with psychopathy, this paper will be primarily focused on those who posses
psychopathy and have committed criminal acts of great proportion. Some crimes that involve
offenders who posses psychopathy are serial killings and mass murders such as school shootings, mass
shootings, and mass suicides such as those committed by cults.
Psychology of Psychopathy The term psychopath brings forth images, of a cold and heartless, crazy
person , into people s minds when they hear the term. However people classified as psychopaths
posses distinguishing characteristics that set them aside from those who are mentally healthy . A very
minimal percentage of people are diagnosed with psychopathy. According to the article, Psychopathy
and Culpability , less than fifteen percent of incarcerated criminals meet the criteria for psychopathy
(Fox, 3). However, the few individuals who are diagnosed with psychopathy whether they are
criminals or not, meet the criteria of a checklist known as the PCL (Psychopathy Checklist). The PCL
has since been updated to a second edition know as the PCL R (Fox, 4). The PCL R is a test, which

Comparing The White Man s Burden And The Poisonwood Bible
Weighed down, overwhelmed, accountability, and responsibility. These are all aspects of having a
burden, but what exactly is the burden of a white man? Labor? Money? Extreme temperatures? No,
far from it actually. In the poem the White Man s Burden, Kipling portrays the Burden as having to
civilize the uncultured heathens of Africa. The family in The Poisonwood Bible have this particular
burden. However, the family is divided on how they think about this so called burden . These two
works of literature go together like peanut butter and jelly. They walk hand in hand to expose the
downfalls of colonialism and superiority. The Poisonwood Bible has a family that is sent to the Congo
to help the Congolese people by introducing them to the Christian faith. In The White Man s Burden,
it talks of civilizing the uncivilized or changing them. Just as the Price family is doing to the
Congolese people. However the question remains. Is it the family s job to civilize these people? Well,
many believe not. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The short story, The Rich Brother, by Tobias Wolff represents the same concept that everyday people
all over the world encounter. This portrays how having siblings can be an enormous part of a persons
life. The rivalry between siblings is often very competitive, but at the same time similar to magnets.
When they are not connected it may seem they are independent and whole, but when examined closely
it is obvious they are really relying on each other to function properly. Although Pete and Donald s life

Even thought Pete does not show caring emotions, his actions say all the words. For example: Donald
said, Pete do you ever dream about me? Pete replied with, What kind of question is that? Of course I

that shows the reader a very small part of Pete s soft side. Another example compares in a similar way
that Pete does in fact have a connection with his only brother Donald. There was something wrong

everyone else was supposed to be. Pete said. (pg. 369) If someone were to analyze only this part of the

2. Prey insects devised counter defenses against natural enemies that interfere with four critical steps
of predations. These predation steps include encounter rate, likelihood of attack, probability of
capture, and killing (consuming) of prey.
Prey insects can reduce their encounter rate with predator via crypsis that include camouflage
mimicry, anti predator behavior, and conceal feeding.Camouflage mimicry denotes when ornation
and/or morphological features of prey organism blend in with background or inedible objects such as
leaf, thorns, sticks and bird droppings. Anti predator behavior can be observed when prey organisms

Chemical defense can be blistering agent (i.e. cantharidin) secreted by meloid beetles or explosive hot

bombardier beetle upon attacks. Behavioral aggression denotes defensive behaviors such as biting,
thrashing, dropping, and regurgitation. The primary purpose of these defensive behavior is make it
difficult for predator to capture them. Escape behavior is observed when prey organism actively try to
escape predation such as when aphids drop from their host plant to floor when under attack by a
ladybird beetle. Acoustical interference is a specialized defensive behavior against predators that
utilize echolocation to hunt. For example, tiger moth can jam the echolocation cries of bats with
ultrasonic clicks. Recruitment of bodyguards can reduce probability of attack via establishing
mutually beneficial relationship with organism that may deter predator. For example, many aphid
species produce honeydew that attract ants which subsequently protection to aphids against their
predators.

Pop Culture Essay
Habitual Americans
From the newest music video to the latest Buzzfeed s Tasty recipe, Americans express themselves
through pop culture. What music someone listens to, who they follow on Instagram, what tweet they
retweet on Twitter: all reflects who someone is. Americans reflect themselves through pop culture
contrary to belief that pop culture creates Americans.
Barbie s and Legos: two of the most popular children s toys throughout the decades These toys are
always being remade in a new way and sold through advertising. The newest Legos are always made
to correspond with a movie coming to theaters near you. These toys are why pop culture creates
Americans as a society. Americans buy what they see on television, these products then become
popular , and eventually are owned in every household. Snuggies were once popular, they were
advertised during every commercial break, leaving everyone to feel like they needed one. If these had
not been advertised as much as they were, they would not have been popular. Although Americans buy
what they see as popular, it does not create who they are, only reflects what is popular at the moment.
Of course, someone is going to go buy, the newest invention or go see the newest action movie in
theater. The product interests the consumer into looking into it more.
If someone is partially awake at 3 am, they will turn on the shopping channel, where things you
thought had never been invented are sold. People are curious on what is out there.

The Infamous Reputation of Drones
For many people, just the word drone sends a chill down their spine. The infamous reputation of these
unmanned flying objects comes from their heavy use in war zones where they are meant to track and
kill. The purpose of these drones is to complete a mission without risking the lives of soldiers.
Contrary to popular belief, most drones are used for purposes other than warfare. The public rarely
hears about the positive side of drones and thus their opinion on drones is simply biased because they
do not realize that there is another, much larger side to drones that is peaceful. Most drones are used
for surveillance along borders or simply for fun. The use of drones for recreation seems to slowly be
catching on and will offer amazing possibilities. Even though many people do not recognize the
positive side of drones, they have the power to revolutionize the way we see and understand the world,
protect the lives of the soldiers and allow for amazing private experiences through their wide range of
uses. Drones have long proven their superiority in warfare. They are capable to follow their target
without being noticed and can strike whenever needed without have a solder on the ground. It is not
even necessary for the drone pilot to be in the same country as the drone. A drone can fly in
Afghanistan but the pilot is safe in his own home country. The drone technology therefore saves the
lives of many soldiers who would otherwise be in harms way. Drones can prevent ambushes,

Media portrayal of sex and violence between today and my past. Media is a mode of communication
which acts to be a link between the people in today s society. There were many different issues
presented between today and earlier days in the case of media portrayal of sex and violence. Today the
media represents the stories of sex and violence in every single newspaper, video, radio and channels

Recommendations for minimizing problems of media portrayals
Entertainment and Education programs I think this is one of the best ideas there is to do for
embedding the behaviors of the audiences in order to minimize the problems of media portrayal of sex
and violence. This is used to reach the intended audiences through radio and TV programs for
minimizing the media problems and this can be reduced by attracting audiences through irresistible
programs.
The new kinds of technologies were also used for shrinking the problems of media portrayal of sex
and violence. The technologies that the media have includes the Social Networking sites, such as
Facebook, Instagram and other interactive websites. These Social Media websites were used to reach
the sexual health audiences for mobile target audiences. The sexual health message of media
technologies could make awareness for minimizing the problems of portrayal of sex and violence.
Media Advocacy Media advocacy can reduce the problems of media portrayals of sex and violence.

How I Got The Best From Designers As A Product Manager
How to get the best from designers as a product manager When I started out in this industry I was a
designer (which at that time, also meant I was a front end developer). I then became a project manager
leading teams of designers, developers and UXers. For the past few years I have returned full circle to
doing what I love; design. My journey around various job roles has helped me to understand design
from many different angles. This article is a list of top 4 things I ve learnt along the way about how to
get the best from designers. 1. Engage your designers early on If the designers you work with are not
involved in requirements gathering for a project you re going to have problems from the start. Imagine
that you re given a compass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Understand the type of designers you are working with There are many different skill sets in the
discipline of design. When we talk about designers there are many different job titles and roles.
Broadly speaking you are likely to work with three types of designers: Interaction designers these
types of designers focus on creating engaging UI elements, behaviours and actions to creative intuitive
products and services. Visual Designers these types of designers focus on the look and feel of the
product and brand across the whole product or service UX Designers these types of designers focus on
assessing the needs and experience users have with a product or service and designing solutions to
meet those needs. Most designers you come across will be multi disciplined in some way but each will
be different. If you re lucky you ll have someone that is all three, but don t expect all designers to have
all of these skills. The only way to really understand is to get to know the designers on your product
team and what their strengths are but more importantly what motivates them. Some designers may
need a jumpstart to get their creative juices flowing. Ideation workshops or sketch sessions, like those
used in GV design sprints, can help with this. Even just sitting with a developer and

Social Norm In Moby Dick
All men live enveloped in whale lines. All are born with halters round their necks; but it is only when
caught in the swift, sudden turn of death, that mortals realize the silent, subtle, ever present perils of
life. (Melville, 1851) The creation of Moby Dick was a significant turning point for American
literature. Melville s application of intense symbolism, challenging themes, and extraordinary
allusions contrast with that of typical American writings of that time. In fact, many Americans rejected
the novel due to the fact Moby Dick explicates realism that many Americans neglected to comprehend
in the 19th century; many Americans were not aware the immoral social norms they practiced. In this
way, Melville utilized Moby Dick as an allegory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, Melville addressed allusions to Greek Mythology including the three Fates who
conducted the strings of life and destiny. In Moby Dick, the crew seized destiny into their own hands;
however, in the end, life and death were augured by the harpoon ropes. Ahab stooped to clear it; he did
clear it; but the flying turn caught him round the neck, and voicelessly as Turkish mutes bowstring
their victim, he was shot out of the boat, ere the crew knew he was gone. Next instant, the heavy eye
splice in the rope s final end flew out of the stark empty tub, knocked down an oarsman, and smiting
the sea, disappeared in its depths. (Melville, 1851) Despite the attempt of the crew, they were not the
deciders of fate. On the other hand, this was similar to Americans at the time. Americans used God to
justify their iniquities including treatment of races and expansion. As stated previously, America s
justified the Manifest Destiny as God s word; thus, generating a strong sense of nationalism.
Americans concluded God constructed them as the superior nation, and many Americans grew
audacious. In fact, many felt America should only be for Americans, not foreign immigrants. Some
went as far as violence to voice their opinion, similar to Ahabd s revenge against the whale. At the
same time, Americans also removed Native Americans and enslaved African Americans. Needless to

Annotated Bibliography Of Borderlands
Julia Glandt October 24, 2017 Borderlands FYS Annotated Bibliography They had no life; they were
not allowed to have a life. They were isolated from not only the white race but also their own people.
Mr. Michael Reed was one of those slave owners that treated his slaves that they were nothing more
than a piece of property. In his files, Mr. Reed had a ledger of daily activities. This ledger contained
hourly and daily record of everything his slaves would do. In some of his recordings, Mr. Reed would
write down very strange things for what activity his slaves were doing. He would make mention when
they were sick, of course so he could know how many hours they worked; but many of his recording
were not appropriate for him to be writing. He acted almost as if a lion stalking its prey before it killed
them, minus the killing. If his slaves went to the restroom, he would repeatedly write that or the word
nothing if he felt that they were not contributing to work on the plantations. By Reed doing this to his
slaves, he isolated them to not allow for them to have any outside contact. He silenced his slaves from
feeling like humans. Being trapped in this isolation dehumanized the slaves by treating them as more
of a research project/business rather than actual people, even though they were never thought of as
people at the time. The treatment these individuals reported ran the gamut from the most harsh,
impersonal, and exploitative to work and living conditions and environments

Abstract This Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANETs) consists of of a set of nodes linked by wi fi

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). The Network is ad hoc because it does not depend on pre

Innovations In The Late 19th Century
1. Describe some of the events and scientific discoveries that shook the late nineteenth century s
confidence in the idea of progress. What effect did these events have on music, literature, and the arts?
Despite the incredible advancements from the scientific world in the late nineteenth century, the
rapidly developing industry had its dark side. Telephones, automobiles, and airplanes were in their
early stages of development, and were all crashing into people s worlds at an a dangerously fast pace.
Contrary to the welcomed progress of such periods as the Enlightenment, the overwhelming influx of
new ideas was too much, and, as shown many times throughout history, the arts followed the thoughts
of the time. Although this time, it was not the celebration of progress, but a look into the pessimistic
side of it. Modernism. Feeling as though they could no longer put their faith in anything, artists turned
away from science, religion, and the reliability of the human mind. Painters abandoned reality, writers
shunned traditional structure, and musicians ignored logic. The faster the innovations of the early
twentieth shot up, the more its weak foundations crumbled, and the arts left the structure completely.
2. Was early twentieth century music responsive to public opinion? Was emotional expression to an
audience important to early twentieth century composers? Explain.
As art continued to drift away from reality in the twentieth century, it inevitably become detached
from the ordinary public. Disregarding the conventional expectations of their audience, composers
became increasingly experimental. Although to some this was a breath of fresh air from the heavy
sentimentality of composers such as Tchaikovsky, many were driven away by the harsh separation of
music from feeling. Compared to the romantic sounds from the era of the same name, Modernist
music seemed cold and emotionless. One of the most influential composers of the time, Igor
Stravinsky, was an outspoken advocate for this detachment, or objectivity , as it was called, of
sentiment from music, and rejection of Romantic emotionality. Objectivity was the ideal, and this
more mathematical approach to music led to some interesting new sounds. Some

Symbolism In The Mending Wall By Robert Frost
What Is The Mending Wall ? Robert Frost s poem Mending Wall is a poem that was written without
proper form and has no stanzas/rhyme to it; this was done purposely by the author to make the writing
sound more conversational and look more like a common story that a reader can simply apply to
his/her own life circumstances. The poem presents readers with two neighbors and their efforts at
reconstructing a stone wall separating their property every year. Frost uses metaphoric symbolism in
this poem as the wall is used as a metaphor to portray the idea of a barrier between people and the
repairing of the wall as resolving obstacles and bringing people together. Every spring, two very
different men come together to rebuild a wall destroyed by nature and hunters; however, the speaker
begins to think, what is the purpose of this wall if we have no animals to keep away? Why do we
rebuild a wall every year that not even nature wants? The poem begins to compare two lifestyles:
traditional and logical. While the neighbor truly believes good fences make good neighbors , the
speaker argues that respect and kindness do rather than a useless wall. The first part of this poem
announces the presence of wall destroyers. Lines 1 4 of the poem immediately introduce readers to
something there is that doesn t love a wall . Frost announces that every year something is destroying
the wall he and his neighbor build. Readers are made to understand that even nature itself does not like

important to be clear that not all vast cities are the same, and it goes the same way for the suburban
regions of America. The city and country lifestyle are two distinct types of living, each with their own
pros and cons that may overlap at times. Between these two, there are numerous differences when
looking at their environment, distinct social opportunities, and contrastive cost of living. One way or
another, all the facts will be laid down, and a deeper insight into why people settle in either the city or
the suburbs shall become apparent.
At first glance, it is obvious that there are many pros and cons when it comes to deciding a lifestyle in
either one of these surroundings, so careful assessment of all details are required to make the ideal
decision for what a future resident might expect. To start off, it would seem that the majority of city
apartments can be quite affordable in a rent controlled zone and are much more practical for poor
families, or even

Why Was The Civil War Important
Missa Suder History 144 Professor O Hara 7/12/15 One of the biggest and most well known wars in
American history is the Civil War. The Civil War determined what type of nation the United States
would be. It helped determine that all men are created with equal rights and we all have an equal right
to freedom. Right after the Civil war the Reconstruction era began. The Republicans argued with each
other over who controlled what during the Reconstruction. During this period the South whites started
to resist any knew changes that were trying to be made. The Republicans had a strategic plan for the
post Civil war era and the Democrats were more violent in their actions to control the Reconstruction
era. The Southern democrat parties would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

farther the Native American s were pushed back. The Native Americans were either forced to live on
an American reserve or they were killed during violent Indian wars. The Dawes Act made the Indians
wards of the state. They continued to lose Indian Territory and Indian children were forced into
American boarding school. It was known as kill the Indian save the man. The Dawes Act was the

Relationships And Literary Devices In Narcopolis By Jeet...
Sanskriti Merchant SYBA 345,141259 A. ENG. 4.01 19th January 2016 Role of relationships and
literary devices in Narcopolis by Jeet Thayil Some might argue that this literary masterpiece is a book
about wasted lives, but it isn t. It s a book about selling one s soul and taking a great amount of
satisfaction from it. This unapologetic portrayal of a life devoted to drugs is Thayil s debut novel from
the perspective of an outsider slowly gaining the status of someone who belongs. It might be
considered to be close to his own biopic, a fact that Thayil does not try to conceal. It is an enchanting
tale of Mumbai s hazy world of opium addiction in the 1970s when the underbelly of Bombay was
disjointed from the glitz and glamour of the new found city. The book ... Show more content on

Thayil confesses that he believes that the only way to write about opium is through long, open ended
sentences. The city, as given by the title, is the central character of the novel. Thayil named his book
Narcopolis because Bombay seemed to me a city of intoxication, where the substances on offer were
drugs and alcohol, of course, but also god, glamour, power, money and sex . The other characters
swarm in and out of the city, all a mere blip in the working of the mechanism that is this metropolis.
However, the author does not underrate the importance of their lives. On the contrary, the novel
portrays their lives as if they were indispensable to the decade. As if their very existence made the
sullen streets of Bombay what they are today. As if every street has a Dimple, a Rumi, and a Lee.
Kevin Rushby s statement I wished that this book, like some long and delicious opium induced
daydream, would go on and on. gives one a precise

Some 310 billion mobile app downloads are expected by Q1/2016, and 70% of smartphones will be
802.11acready by Q2/2015. And let s not forget about tablets they consume 3.4 times more traffic
compared to a smartphone on average. Networks must contend with this higher demand. Enterprises
have also grown more reliant on higher bandwidth, latency sensitive applications. For example, virtual
desktop infrastructures (VDI) are characterized by bursty, delay sensitive traffic because processing
occurs in the data center instead of locally. HD video capable mobile devices are proliferating. And
users increasingly rely on them for fast and efficient mobile telepresence. Collaborative programs like
Microsoft Lync, Apple FaceTime, WebEx and Citrix GoToMeeting create two way video traffic across
the network. The use of podcasting and streaming has also skyrocketed. It is therefore only natural to
see a huge increase in the consumption of multimedia on mobile devices in the residence hall. Due to
the pervasiveness of wireless in some environments, the smart classroom has now become virtualized,
which allows its capabilities to be delivered anywhere there is capacity to receive it. The 80/20 rule for
download and upload direction no longer exists. New app behavior has completely transformed traffic
patterns. For example, smartphones synchronize all photos to cloud based storage when a user walks

The Pros And Cons Of Domestic Terrorism
In today s society domestic terrorism is one of the biggest threats to the United States. Some of these
recent terrorist attacks include. Domestic Terrorism is when U.S. citizens carry out terrorist acts
against other U.S. residents or groups. Many people think that the biggest threat of terrorism to the
U.S. is from a foreign country, when in fact, the bigger threat is closer to home. Domestic terrorism is
becoming a bigger threat to the U.S. than international terrorism and we need to find a way to prevent
these attacks.
Domestic terrorists are turning into such a bigger threat as there becomes more and more dangerous
domestic terrorist groups. For instance, right wing extremists are becoming more of a danger that we
can t ignore. As said by Kurt Eichenwald, [Timothy] McVeigh, the infamous anti government
extremist, murdered 168 people in 1995 when he detonated a truck bomb in front of the Alfred P.
Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Like Timothy McVeigh, many U.S. citizens have had
violent disagreements about rights and freedoms with government officials, which has caused many of
these antigovernment extremist groups to form. According to Ron Nixon, Mr. Ellison said, Right wing
extremists have launched an average of 330 attacks a year and killed about 250 people between 2002
and 2011. These are dangerous people. Right wing extremists are becoming a bigger threat to our
country. They are attacking and killing more people every year and we need to find a

  • 2. Comparing Judith, Grendel s Mother, And Wealhtheow Judith is a very strong woman in this poem, which is very different than how a person would assume she would act. But it seems that she is in good company in being much stronger than we expect people to be. We see similarly strong women in Beowulf which I feel is not a coincidence. Both Judith, Grendel s Mother, and Wealhtheow are super strong in times that you would normally expect them not to be. But even in actions these two are very different. Where we see Wealhtheow as the person who brings peace and sets the mood in the halls before battle she isn t the one going out and killing people. She is strong in the fact that she is the one that Beowulf makes his boast to and that she can act as her own person but in that time she was not the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is fighting for a reason, much like what we see Judith do in her own story, and for a moment it would appear that she would have the upper hand in her battle She is very much a person to fear in battle and isn t afraid to have to fight to get what she feels is right, even though in the end her own fight is not noble to anyone but her she still fights with the grace of a warrior in battle. Then we get to Judith who is in her own sense a mixture of these two. She works to take down Holofernes and help secure a win for her people, so almost in a sense she is being a peace keeper like Wealhtheow would have been, but instead of using alcohol and not lifting an instrument of war she much like Grendel s mother takes to fighting to get what she means. In the end she does what is right and we accept that the death of the man is all in the good for her people. Yet the battle she fought for many is rather similar to the battle Grendel s Mother waged on Beowulf after her son s murder. So once more I am not surmised that these two stories follow each other because we see a similar theme in them even among the women, though only one follows a woman specifically because in both the women are all strong in their own ways. But in Judith s story we see her combine everything that the pervious women held separately and make what could be the ultimate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was required to work in a group to produce a 3 minute trailer for a new horror/thriller movie. In my A2 advanced production my brief was to work within a group in order to produce a promotional package to introduce a new band into the mainstream music industry. The package could take any form, using a variety of medias. We started the project by doing individual research into the music industry. Through my research I aimed to gain in depth knowledge and understanding of the industry. I researched the style, form, genre and identity of album covers, music videos and record labels. It was immediately clear to all of us that we should extend these qualities into our video. We wanted to extend the meaning of the song through our media productions, extending the viewer s involvement with and enjoyment of the band. We chose to produce a music video, suitable for mainstream TV. Establishing band idenity The song has a clear Indie style with its grungy guitar and vocals. It also has a very individual style and sound. We felt that our band could be marketed as an Indie band brandishing a new style. Whilst the band would be very stylised, its main concern is for it s music. The bands style would grow from their passion for their music and are the muso type. It would be very bold and artistic with its other media productions just as it is with its music. The band would not nesicerialy be a mainstream product but would have mainstream appeal, similar to such bands as radio head and the white stripes. We decided that Bus stop boxer would be the single release from the band s new album. Bus stop boxer would be the most accessible song to a mainstream audience on the album. Advantages Of Qatari Diamond Competitive Advantage of Qatari Firms Based on Michael Porter s Diamond In his book The Competitive Advantage of Nations Michael Porter examines modern global economy and explains the theory of competitive advantage through a reflection of a diamond which maintains its growth and prosperity. Porter who is considered the father of modern businesses and promoter of notions of competitiveness produced a number of books on strategic management in which he bridged the gap between national and international economics. His latest book is specifically the broadest in scope because it shifts the focus of attention from the performance of the firm to the performance of the nation whole. This paper further discussed Porter s framework at a nation s level, choosing Qatar as its pick of a developing country that has crossed the borderline to global markets among other internationalized nations via its massive production of natural gasses, oils and fuels. Finally, Porter s book serves as a portal for theorists to analyze countries that are not usually written about such as ones in the Arabian region like Qatar, Oman, etc. However, at the empirical level this paper proved that such complex framework can be applied to selective countries that has high competitive tendencies and what qualifies it to fit with the modern global ... • 6. Buying Feminine Hygiene Products For People Magazine s... ADVERTISER AND MEDIUM The advertiser for this product is Energizer, who is a manufacturer. This advertisement was shown in People magazine s July 2015 edition. MARKET SITUATION Carefree is a lesser known and lesser used brand in comparison to its competitors, so its important for their ads to really resonate with their target market. Competition in this industry is mainly between Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost leaves Carefree out of the running. Carefree products are sold in Target, Walmart, and drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Another thing to consider with this industry are the consumer attitudes towards these products. A lot of women tend to be embarrassed when buying feminine hygiene products because of the social stigma around periods, but the fact is that they still have to buy them. So, when the consumers go to the store to purchase these type of products they ll usually purchase the same product every time because they know it works, they know where it is in the store, and they know the price, which makes the whole process go quickly. TARGET MARKET CUSTOMER PROFILE This print ad was published in People magazine. 70% of people s readers are women, the majority of them falling into the 18 44 age range, with median age of 38. Most of the women readers are employed, with college degrees. Another percentage of readers are women with one or more children in their household (42%). • 7. American Influence On Puritan Society After the Protestant Reformation, a group practicing Puritanism left Great Britain to the Netherlands for the ability to practice their religion freely. However, the Puritans did not favor the idea of their children growing up outside of British influences despite having the privilege of freedom of religion. In 1620, the first group of Puritan settlers sailed to North America aboard the Mayflower. It wasn t until 1629 when John Winthrop delivered his city upon a hill sermon that created a new perspective and goal for the growing Puritan society. Economic, political, and social difficulties were faced, but religion stayed a constant center for the Puritan settlements. Both failures and successes molded the Puritan settlement into what it was in the seventeenth century, which leads into the influences left by the Puritans in today s society. • 9. The Musical Genre Of Reggae The musical genre, reggae, was originally coined in the 1960s. Derived from rege rege Jamaican for rags or ragged clothing the genre was used to describe the raggedy music style found in Jamaica at the time. Reggae incorporates the traditional Jamaican music such as mento and ska, rhythm blues, and rocksteady. Ska characteristics such as the walking bass line of the guitar and piano off beats are used in reggae. However, ska is much faster than reggae, so the use of rocksteady in the genre slows the ska tempo. Reggae songs are heavily backbeated, meaning the music has highly emphasized second and fourth beats; this style is typically found in African based musical genres. In reggae s foundation, artists typically wrote of love, but the seventies foresaw the use of socio political and religious lyrics. To English listeners, reggae lyrics are nearly incomprehensible. For example, Jah means God, and Ganga is the Jamaican slang term for marijuana, a medical herb Rastafarians smoked to feel closer to God. Since those not of this faith do not understand the importance of marijuana, reggae lyrics often get misinterpreted as getting high. Never the less, reggae music first rose to international acclaim in the 1970s following the release of the movie, The Harder They Came, a story of a young man traveling through urban Jamaica. The movie s soundtrack was comprised entirely of reggae music, skyrocketing the genre into the mainstream. Despite the movie s success in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the common types of parallel prefix adders are Brent Kung, Kogge Stone, Han Carlson and Ladner Fischer adders. This paper involves an investigation of the performances of these adders in terms of computational delay, interconnect usage and power. The investigation and comparison for all these adders was conducted for 8 bit size. By using the XILINX 14.5 design software, the designs for above mentioned adders were developed. The simulation result produced the vector waveform which then shows the computational delay; interconnect usage and power for the adders. Hence, this project is significant in showing which of these adders being tested perform better in terms of computational delay, interconnect usage and power. One of the most prolific examples of this is his view of history. This is set out most clearly and most famously in his largest work, War and Peace. As Tolstoy claimed himself in a public statement on the work, War and Peace is what the author wanted and was able to express in that form in which it was expressed. The first section has been widely disregarded as a limited and anachronistic description of modern historiography and the logocentric reliance on the presumption that what he feels is important, is important for self evident reasons. Ahab stooped to clear it; he did clear it; but the flying turn caught him round the neck, and voicelessly as Turkish mutes bowstring their victim, he was shot out of the boat, ere the crew knew he was gone. Next instant, the heavy eye splice in the rope s final end flew out of the stark empty tub, knocked down an oarsman, and smiting the sea, disappeared in its depths. (Melville, 1851) Despite the attempt of the crew, they were not the deciders of fate. On the other hand, this was similar to Americans at the time. Americans used God to justify their iniquities including treatment of races and expansion. As stated previously, America s justified the Manifest Destiny as God s word; thus, generating a strong sense of nationalism. Americans concluded God constructed them as the superior nation, and many Americans grew audacious. In fact, many felt America should only be for Americans, not foreign immigrants. Some went as far as violence to voice their opinion, similar to Ahabd s revenge against the whale. At the same time, Americans also removed Native Americans and enslaved African Americans. • 30. Annotated Bibliography Of Borderlands Julia Glandt October 24, 2017 Borderlands FYS Annotated Bibliography They had no life; they were not allowed to have a life. They were isolated from not only the white race but also their own people. Mr. Michael Reed was one of those slave owners that treated his slaves that they were nothing more than a piece of property. In his files, Mr. Reed had a ledger of daily activities. This ledger contained hourly and daily record of everything his slaves would do. In some of his recordings, Mr. Reed would write down very strange things for what activity his slaves were doing. He would make mention when they were sick, of course so he could know how many hours they worked; but many of his recording were not appropriate for him to be writing. He acted almost as if a lion stalking its prey before it killed them, minus the killing. If his slaves went to the restroom, he would repeatedly write that or the word nothing if he felt that they were not contributing to work on the plantations. By Reed doing this to his slaves, he isolated them to not allow for them to have any outside contact. He silenced his slaves from feeling like humans. Being trapped in this isolation dehumanized the slaves by treating them as more of a research project/business rather than actual people, even though they were never thought of as people at the time. The treatment these individuals reported ran the gamut from the most harsh, impersonal, and exploitative to work and living conditions and environments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What effect did these events have on music, literature, and the arts? Despite the incredible advancements from the scientific world in the late nineteenth century, the rapidly developing industry had its dark side. Telephones, automobiles, and airplanes were in their early stages of development, and were all crashing into people s worlds at an a dangerously fast pace. Contrary to the welcomed progress of such periods as the Enlightenment, the overwhelming influx of new ideas was too much, and, as shown many times throughout history, the arts followed the thoughts of the time. Although this time, it was not the celebration of progress, but a look into the pessimistic side of it. Modernism. Feeling as though they could no longer put their faith in anything, artists turned away from science, religion, and the reliability of the human mind. Painters abandoned reality, writers shunned traditional structure, and musicians ignored logic. The faster the innovations of the early twentieth shot up, the more its weak foundations crumbled, and the arts left the structure completely. 2. Was early twentieth century music responsive to public opinion? Was emotional expression to an audience important to early twentieth century composers? Explain. As art continued to drift away from reality in the twentieth century, it inevitably become detached from the ordinary public. Disregarding the conventional expectations of their audience, composers became increasingly experimental. Although to some this was a breath of fresh air from the heavy sentimentality of composers such as Tchaikovsky, many were driven away by the harsh separation of music from feeling. Compared to the romantic sounds from the era of the same name, Modernist music seemed cold and emotionless. One of the most influential composers of the time, Igor Stravinsky, was an outspoken advocate for this detachment, or objectivity , as it was called, of sentiment from music, and rejection of Romantic emotionality. Objectivity was the ideal, and this more mathematical approach to music led to some interesting new sounds. Some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Symbolism In The Mending Wall By Robert Frost What Is The Mending Wall ? Robert Frost s poem Mending Wall is a poem that was written without proper form and has no stanzas/rhyme to it; this was done purposely by the author to make the writing sound more conversational and look more like a common story that a reader can simply apply to his/her own life circumstances. The poem presents readers with two neighbors and their efforts at reconstructing a stone wall separating their property every year. Frost uses metaphoric symbolism in this poem as the wall is used as a metaphor to portray the idea of a barrier between people and the repairing of the wall as resolving obstacles and bringing people together. Every spring, two very different men come together to rebuild a wall destroyed by nature and hunters; however, the speaker begins to think, what is the purpose of this wall if we have no animals to keep away? Why do we rebuild a wall every year that not even nature wants? The poem begins to compare two lifestyles: traditional and logical. While the neighbor truly believes good fences make good neighbors , the speaker argues that respect and kindness do rather than a useless wall. The first part of this poem announces the presence of wall destroyers. Lines 1 4 of the poem immediately introduce readers to something there is that doesn t love a wall . Frost announces that every year something is destroying the wall he and his neighbor build. Readers are made to understand that even nature itself does not like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
