The Impact Of Internet Legislation On The Internet
The goal of the legislation was to improve the access of the internet and to allow the consumers to
receive equal access to all internet sites no matter what provider they are using. This allows people to
select the applications or sites they wish to get their information, giving them a freedom not many
have. As shown before these companies have been fined and reprimanded for breaking the law,
however this brings forth a probe to see if this policy been successful in creating an equal internet for
the consumer. According to CBS NL it states that the dutch legislation raised the over population of
84% avidly use the internet in 2012 versus the 78% of people in 2005. The statistics presented by the
Central Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) show that as the internet evolved people became more
dependent on the internet leading to an expansion of people using the internet (CBS 2012).
Additionally, the Netherlands holds the highest percentage of internet users than in most developed
countries in Europe (CBS). However, as we see that more people in the Netherlands use the internet
ISPs also introduced a raise in prices to help with the lost revenue the law created. Although
consumers were being charged more many advocates still see it as a victory by stopping ISPs from
raising the prices significantly higher than the are now creating a consensus between the ISPs and its
consumers.

Summary Of The Cocktail Waitress
The Cocktail Waitress written by James P. Spradley and Brenda E. Mann is a 1975 classic. It studies in
depth and examines a familiar female role in contemporary American society. Its authors use
fieldwork methods to the study of social behavior in a college bar, as presented in the context of a
cocktail waitress. They describe the daily lives of women in details and the meaning of work in a man
s world. They provide a wealth of empirical data on the nature of being female in the society. The
book examines male female relationships as well as patterns of male dominance in social interactions.
It shows how these are connected to more general issues in anthropology. The objective presentation
of the waitress casts light on significant social issues

Aphra Ben s Oroonoko and Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders
In his Dictionary of Literary Terms, Harry Shaw defines the novel: In effective narrative literature,
fictional persons, through characterization, become so credible that they exist for the reader as real
people, he says (1). Many eighteenth century British novelists neglected to earn this credibility.
Looking specifically at Aphra Behn s Oroonoko and Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders, Shaw s definition
becomes especially difficult to apply to Moll and Oroonoko s narrator. While the novels should not be
declared unsuccessful in their entireties, perhaps the sincerity claimed in both introductions only
lessens their overall believability.
In the opening lines of his preface, Defoe tells us, the Author is here suppos d to be writing her own
History (1). Behn makes a similar claim in his novel: I was myself an eyewitness to a great part, of
what you will find here set down, and what I could not be witness of, I received from the mouth of the
chief actor in this history, the hero himself (75). And soon the authors claims prove themselves to be
untrue with a sizeable lack of reality in their characterization. Perhaps we cannot blame the authors
themselves, but rather their time. Serving as the inventors of the realist novel, eighteenth century
writers like Aphra Behn and Daniel Defoe were without a foundation to follow and with the
development of characters that are perhaps too unique, situations idealized, and blatant claims of
truthfulness, thus fail to convince the

Socrates, Philosophy and the Good Life Essay
Socrates, Philosophy and the Good Life
Socrates belief was that he was called on by the Gods to live his life examining others and himself. He
believed the necessity of doing what one thinks is right even in the face of universal opposition, and
the need to pursue knowledge even when opposed. I became completely convinced, to the duty of
leading the philosophical life by examining myself and others. ¹ Socrates believed that to desert this
idea was ridiculous and would make his life absurd. Socrates chose to live a life of truth and not to
worry about things that did not matter. For Socrates not to live his life by the plans and requests of
Gods it would be disobedient and untrue to the Gods. Socrates was brought to court to defend ... Show

Socrates asks the question Is there anyone in the world, Meletus, who acknowledges that human
phenomena exist, yet does not acknowledge human beings? 9 After more questions of the same type,
Meletus answers no. Socrates again proves his point. Socrates brings the irrational charge down to
simple accusation because Meletus was a loss for a legitimate offense. Socrates says there is no
conceivable way that a person who believes in spiritual beings does not believe in gods. The argument
that proved inconsistency in Meletus answers was: spirits exists, God created spirits, therefore, the
creator of spirits exists (God). It seems that Meletus did understand the laws of the court and was
simply charging Socrates with any crime he could think of. Socrates goes to say that Meletus and
Anytus will go on to convict many more good men and they will not stop with him. Socrates states
that it will not be Meletus and Anytus that convict but the malice and slander and great hostility that
will. Socrates refutes the irreligion charge by proving that since he believes in spirits he believes in
gods. I have neglected the things that concern most people making money, managing an estate,
gaining military power or civic honours, or positions of power. 10 Even today to most of the human
race the good life is acquiring great status here on earth. Most men need to have much material
possession, meaningful vocation, and a wealthy class.

Communication System in Malaysia
INTRODUCTION Every day, in our work and in our leisure time, we come in contact with and use a
variety of modern communication systems and communication media, the most common being the
telephone, radio, television, and the Internet. Through these media we are able to communicate
(nearly) instantaneously with people on different continents, transact our daily business, and receive
information about various developments and events of note that occur all around the world. Electronic
mail and facsimile transmission have made it possible to rapidly communicate written messages
across great distances. ELEMENT OF COMMUNICATION SYSTEM Information signal is given to

Goods And Possessions In The Great Gatsby
Goods/possessions
All the sources use the idea of goods and possessions helping determine social class. All of the sources
relate back to the story The Great Gatsby
In the article What Would Veblen say? David Scott said Elites In Veblen s day would have probably
giggled at the irony of the phrase stuff girls need... for so much less! Then again, advertisements such
as this are not intended for people who need not worry about their budget. Here he is saying that the
needs that most people say they have is actually a want .the upper class people do not have to worry
about money so more and more things become a necessity to them. This is relatable to the novel the
Great Gatsby when Myrtle buys a puppy for the apartment that she is barely in and will not even be
able to take care of it. The higher class people think lots of goods are necessities when in fact they are
wants. In The Great Gatsby , In that time period everybody was judged on the basis of material items.

The President Of The Vice President
The New Vice President. In the case study of the new vice president, Jennifer was appointed interim
Vice President for a 3 year term at Mid West University. After the interim, the President reluctantly
appointed her the role of Vice President of the University. Jennifer has devoted her entire career to
Mid West University. She was initially hired as an Introductory History instructor. While teaching
history, she earned her PH.D and became Assistant Professor due to her popularity and excellent
teaching ability. Jennifer was involved in various activities on campus such as forming the first union,
acquiring grants, writing skits for the faculty club s annual follies and generally offering her support to
anyone who needed her assistance. She became President of the Faculty Senate where she served two
years before being offered the position of Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs where for the
next ten years she handled most of the academic complaints, oversaw several committees and wrote
letters and reports for the then Vice President. As the new Vice President of the University Jennifer
encountered many issues. Jennifer failed her responsibilities as a leader, and most importantly as the
new vice president elected. As leader you must be able to set clear visions, motivate, guide, and build
others. Clearly Jennifer did not understand her role as the new vice president. She had problems

Theme Of Miss Julie
Miss Julie has two subordinates, a daughter of the Count and a servant who are subject to each other s
authority. Miss Julie and Jean differs in terms of class and in terms of morality. In terms of class, Miss
Julie is superior compared Jean since Miss Julie is a daughter of the Count while Jean is only a servant
of the count. But, it terms of Morality, we can say that Jean is superior compared to Miss Julie in that
fact that Miss Julie had miserable experience in her love life. She was not able to achieve being a
loving wife for her partner due to her inappropriate actions towards her partner. She beats her partner
which forces her partner to leave her and resulted their separation.
The differences structure most of the play s action. In the play, the characters who are superior and
inferior does not change in their positions. The superior characters remained in their position and the
inferior characters also remained in their position. Both the superior character and the inferior
character follows the rule of the character that has the highest position which is the Count who is the

One way in which this play could be related to the Darwinian concept of survival of the fittest is
through the play s examination of class and how it looks at two characters who seem to be rather
unhappy about where they are placed in the social ladder. The Darwinian concept of the survival of the
fittest states that there will be some members of a species who, thanks to their genetic variations, will
be more suited to prosper and survive better than others. Applying this to humans led to the theory of
Social Darwinism, which allowed people to argue that those who prospered were just better adapted to

The Influence Of Learners First Language
The influence of learners first language (L1) plays a significant role in learning a second language
(L2). In general, numerous studies have been investigating L1 transfer. In specific, the influence of
Arabic, more specifically Saudi Arabic, in learning English has been examined to demonstrate the
native language transfer in L2 learning (Binturki, 2008; Grami and Alzughaibi, 2012; among others).
Based on the influence of L1 and universal markedness (things that are present in a small number of
languages), Eckman (1977) proposes the Markedness Differential Hypothesis (MDH). It helps
predicting errors that L2 learners will have based on a comparison between L1 and L2 and universal
markedness. The aim of the present study is to examine to what extent the MDH can account for
mispronunciation of word final voiced stops by Saudi Arabian learners of English. The results of this
study contradict the MDH. Despite the fact that both Saudi Arabic and English have voiced stops word
finally, the Saudi Arabian learners did not produce the voiced stops in coda positions correctly. The
subjects tended mostly to either substitute or devoiced final voiced stops. This paper will start with a
brief discretion of the word final voiced stops (/b d g/) in Saudi Arabic and English. Then, an
explanation about the MDH is involved followed by the section of data source and analysis, and

does. They conduct a variety of clinical and laboratory procedures. That includes postoperative care,
dental care, and specialized nursing care. They also do stuff like, observe animal behaviors. They take
care of animals before and after a surgery, and do x rays on the animals that are recovering. They
administer medications, vaccines, and treatments that are prescribed by a veterinarian. Veterinary

Technology And Technology For Us And Taking Away Jobs
As we make our way through the twenty first century, it s hard to not be amazed when looking at how
far we have come. The world s population has put countless amounts of hours into advancing our
technology and shaping the future that we live in. When we think about the word Technology our first
thoughts are usually related to smart phones, computers and maybe cars, but I m here to tell you there
is so much more that fits into this field. In the time that we are currently living, we are progressing at
rates that we never thought we would see. We have made it to a point where technology is building

This is very true when talking about technology. But let s not get held up on the actual hardware of our
mini computers before we appreciate what we have accomplished in the software division of
technology. Software is changing and growing just as fast, if not faster than actual hardware. Software
includes anything from Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat to Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and the
Operating Systems (OS) on our computers and phones. Software is so intricate and amazing. We don t
appreciate enough the things that companies provide for us through their applications. For example,
when looking for entertainment, its always fun to go on Snapchat is use its fecal recognition feature to

into creating such a crazy feature? According to PetaPixal, Snapchat s filters are the brainchild of a
Ukrainian startup called Looksery, which Snapchat acquired for a record setting $150M. At the most
basic level, the app uses computer vision to spot you based on contrast patterns typically seen in and
around a human face. But to understand how it finds features like your lip lines and eyes, we ll have to
dig a little further. To get more information like that, Snapchat trained the program by using thousands
of manually marked pictures of people s faces to show the lip line and eyes of humans faces. After

Toy Soldiers War Strength Research Paper
If you re not familiar with tower defence games, Toy Soldiers: War Chest is the perfect introduction
into the genre. It is the third installment in the series, developed by Signal Studios and published by
Ubisoft. Toy Soldiers: War Chest is incredibly simplistic and easy to get into. The tutorial introduces
you into the games mechanics by letting you play through a series of waves where enemy units attack
from multiple directions. You re objective is to simply defend your toy box by setting up turrets in
specific locations, with your defensive strategy alternaternating to counter what kind of enemy unit is
advancing on you. A countdown timer to the right of the screen gives you ample time to prepare for
the next attack, and informs you what is approaching. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since each wave continuously changes, you have to upgrade, or alter what kind of weaponry you have
defending specific parts of the battlefield. Turrets can be customised by adding sandbags for defence,
or upgrading the ammo. While battle is in full swing, you are continuously earning money which you
can spend on better turrets or repairing them. The ability to man the turrets is a cool feature that adds
an extra dimension to the game. If you wipe out enough of the oncoming enemy forces, your attack
meter charges allowing you to take control of one of the many toy heros you can choose from such as
He Man, or call in a bomb strike from a zeppelin. The enemy AI performs well enough. I wouldn t say
I was blown away by how it performed, but it is worth noting that if you make an avenue impossible
to infiltrate for the enemy, the AI is smart enough to look for other possibilities. The single player
campaign can be spiced up by giving you the option of a two player local co op. Also, you can have up
to four players online engaged in battle. The online modes perform solidly enough, and add some
much needed longevity to the

any major city in the United States, with over 27,000 people per square mile. 1 As the city with the
highest population in the United States, NYC functions different structurally then many other cities in
the United States. The functionality of such a highly populated city can be studied through individuals
and how factors such as human habitation and social interactions facilitate economic aspects and

Narrative For The Timken Company Valuation Of Acquisition...
Narrative for the Timken Company Valuation of Acquisition of Torrington
The first step in completing this case study was to determine what hypothesis needed to be tested. We
came up with the following six questions that needed to be answered in our research and calculations:
1. What synergies, if any, can the Timken Company expect through its acquisition of Torrington?
What are the risks?
2. What is the value of Torrington including the expected synergies of its acquisition by the Timken
Company?
3. Is this valuation higher than the value of Torrington by itself?
4. How should the Timken Company seek to structure this acquisition?
5. What will the impacts of this deal be on their investment grade status?
6. Should Timken seek to keep investment grade status, or forego this requirement in structuring the
deal?
Step One Evaluate the Potential Synergies and Risks of the Acquisition
At the time of this case study, 2002, Timken was involved in company wide restructuring. They were
consolidating current operational segments into global business units to reduce expenses. Their goal
was more penetration in global markets due to reduced growth in the US based on the bearing industry
s cyclical nature. Analysts predicted 2 3% industry growth in the US, but 6.5% global growth through
2005. The slow US growth was directly tied to the automotive industry s cyclical nature, which was
declining in 2002. Global penetration would help to achieve economies of scale, whilst hedging the

Designing A Representative Model Of Real World Environments
Most of the previous types of simulations and simulators referenced evaluating methods and effective
practices. In the distant past technological advancement in the form of medical training mannequins or
board games were the bulk of technology based simulators. With the growth of the computer industry,
we are naturally increasing our use of computerized technology. Simulation is absolutely no exception
to this. Computer simulations have become one of the greatest and most common ways of creating a
representative model of real world environments. Steadman, Coates, Huang, Matevosian, Larmon,
McCullough, and Ariel (2006) pointed out the spread of simulations in the medical fields:
Fueled by the increasing emphasis on interactive medical education, the use of patient simulation has
spread from anesthesiology to a growing list of disciplines including emergency medicine, radiology,
pediatrics, neonatology, trauma, nursing, other allied health professions, and military and disaster
management. The applications of simulation range from routine skills and critical event training to
competency assessment. (p. 151)
The use of simulators has even seen an increase in entertainment circles with computer games such as
Flight Sim by Microsoft, Simcity originally by Electronic Arts and Maxis, and Sid Meier s
Civilization originally by MicroProse. The value of these simulators lies in their ability to recreate
aircraft piloting, government administration, or historical society growth

Bronfenbrenner s Social Ecological Model
Introduction
The social ecological perspective is seen as a dynamic process in the development of people. The
focus of the social ecological model is the interaction between the person and environment. The
fundamental assumption is that behaviour is the result of the interaction between individuals and the
contexts they are exposed to. (Visser, 2007, p. 103) Personality characteristics and behaviour develop
in that interaction process. However psychological and biological factors do play an important role in
this process. The personality development is mainly determined by the interaction between
psychological, biological and environmental factors. (Moen, Elder, Luscher, 1995) There are various
theories about the social ecological development of people. One of them is Urie Bronfenbrenner social
ecological model. In this assessment I will be discussing Bronfenbrenners social ecological model and
its relevance to my own life. I will explore the ecological model in terms of my own childhood and
will discuss the impact it has on the distinctiveness in the South African context.

The Success Of Successful Aging
Like the very definition of success, successful aging means many different things to different people.
While the subject of successful and vital aging can be inspiring and empowering, it undoubtedly
requires flexibility and adaptation in response to changes in health and functioning that are quite
common as individuals inevitably age. Through formulated theories and suppositions proposed
throughout decades in gerontological studies, many agree upon consistencies that exist across
chronological aging. However, there are many more individual paths and much heterogeneity among
older adults. As a result, gerontologists in the years have incorporated issues such as privileges or
disadvantage across the lifespan to better attempt to address some of the diversity among older adults
to foster optimal or successful aging.
Satisfaction with one s past and present life for example, has been the most commonly proposed
definition of successful ageing. Nonetheless, it is also the most commonly investigated. While its
components include fortitude, morale, autonomy and independence, self efficacy and overall
wellbeing, the outcome of one s development over their lifespan is done so by utilizing past
experiences to cope with present circumstances. Therefore, it is also seen as a multidimensional,
particularized dynamic process.
While most behavioral actions for successful aging continue to promote health related behaviors and
engagement in prolific stimulating activities, the basis of

How Anions Take Electrons
Cations take electrons so they are shown as a rectangle with an indent which symbolizes a slot for an
electron to be taken. If they require multiple electrons to be given to them, they are shown as a
rectangle with multiple indents, one for each needed electron. Anions give electrons so they are shown
as a rectangle with a tab which symbolizes an extra electron that they want to give away. If the anion
have multiple electrons to give away it is shown as a rectangle with multiple tabs on it, one for each

The positive charge from the anions matches the negative charge of the cations. This caused the
charge to become neutral, having no negative charge and no positive charge. This relates to the

anion with a positive charge of two or, two anions with a positive charge of one. Cation s do not

How Did Hitler Want To Take All Power
Do you know a powerful dictator that wanted to take all power? Well Hitler was just that, Adolf Hitler
was a German chancellor that wanted to take all power and conquer as many countries for power.
Hitler was also a dictator, he tried to most countries. Adolf Hitler never cared and wanted all power, he
killed jews for the fault of the loss of World War 1. Although Hitler had some skills that made him a
significant leader. Germany had been weak since the loss of World War 1 with the Weimar Republic,
This had some consequences for Germany. Although after Adolf Hitler became chancellor he made
Germany big again by rearming his army and taking power. Before Hitler was chancellor the Weimar
Republic was an unofficial, historical designation for the German state. Weimar Republic flag for
Germany was a striped flag going from one end to the other with the colors of black on top, red on the
middle, and yellow at the bottom.Weimar Republic existed as the designation for Germany for 14
years, between 1919 and 1933. Although World War 1 had occured during 1914 and 1918, but
Germany was in this World War. Germany was in this war that mostly took place in Britain and
France, most damages from the war were caused here. Although Germany had lost this war, and
Germany had to pay some consequences. Germany had to pay all the reparations done in the war and

Indigenous Art And Other Manifestations Of Indigenous Culture
Indigenous Art and other manifestations of Indigenous culture were discovered during the process of
the colonization of Australia. The first Europeans to arrive in Australia made note of the cultural
artifacts they encountered. Artifacts such as weapons, drawings, sheets of bark and engravings were
collected as colonized culture and housed in scientific and natural history museums where they shared
the space with geological, plant and animal specimens. These objects were initially collected as
curiosities and as sources of information about the exotic native and places. Later they were ordered in
typological sequence to demonstrate the evolution of culture across different societies. These
manifestations of Indigenous culture were regarded as objective information about the diversity of
human culture. They were objects of the exotic worlds not seen as art, however, but as ethnographic
facts. This classification reflected contemporary socio evolutionary thinking of the time which
regarded the Indigenous as people without art. In the mid twentieth century the discourse surrounding
Indigenous Art began to change when major collections were acquired by art galleries as opposed to
ethnographic museums. These great collections of Indigenous objects, reaching back to 1770, provide
an early record of encounters between first Australians and European settlers encounters that have
irrevocably changed Indigenous societies. The Encounters exhibition at the National Museum houses

The Modernization of America Essay
The Modernization of America
The Transcontinental Railroad was completed in 1869. The telephone was invented in 1876. The first
practical system for a radio was developed in 1895. The Wright brothers created a flying machine in
1903. The first gas powered automobile, the assembly line and the refrigerator were produced in the
early 20th century. These are all very important steps in laying the foundation for the modernization of
America, but I would argue that the first truly modern period in American history would have to be the
1920s.
The 1920s brought a capitalistic population who, as a nation, leaned toward isolationism. In two main
fields, the 1920s modernized American society to reflect the America of the 21st century ... Show

The decade brought a new openness about sex, and the media did not miss the chance to take part in
this revolution. The movies were very popular and the film stars who were known for being cute and
innocent, such as America s Sweetheart, Mary Pickford were replaced by stars who were sexy, like
vamp, Theda Bara.
Advertising and the availability of financing brought about a consumer revolution. The new consumer
products appealed to people s social ambitions. Very few of the products were necessities, but
eventually, participating in the consumerism culture became a standard for judging one s value; rather
than religion, character or social standing as it had been before the 1920s.
Business is the other main area that accented the transition to modernization. Big business was seen
throughout the later half of the 19th century, but there was a major shift that changed American
business and employment forever. The 1920s saw more mergers than anytime in American history
besides the 1980s and 90s. Income per capita increased by one third which increased the standard of
living for many people, allowing more than two thirds of Americans to have electricity in their homes
by 1929 and other modern household items such as washing machines, irons, vacuum cleaners,
toasters and sewing machines.
Efficiency became a main issue in factories. Henry Ford could produce an automobile in 93 minutes
as opposed to the fourteen hours it took him before. This also

Social Work And Its Impact On Society Essay
The basis of social work in the society at large trying to manage the effects of poverty and inequality.
Social work has a complex connection with charity work. Charity has been practicing provision of
social welfare dating back in the ancient times. Religion played a major role in providing poor relief
long before the establishment welfare systems. However social work has modern and scientific origins
form the nineteenth century.
Pre Modern Social Work.
Church provided social services for the poor before the Modern European states emerged. Monasteries
dealt with all aspects of poor relief, providing services of social care, (eg; acting as hospitals, old age
homes, and other welfare services). The Christian Church had a huge influence on society, charitable
work was regarded as a sign of devotion by those who delivered the services. The clergy undertook
this role independent from government until the Early Modern Period of social work. The Poor laws
were the early legislation for poor relief in the sixteenth century followed by the The Poor Law
Amendment Act of 1834.
Modern Social Work and Development.

Vanishing Point Rab
The poem s title is Vanishing Point by Lawrence Raab, which generally speaks of life s journey and
the aspirations each one of us has for him or herself. The title of the poem describes the perspective of
life. At the vanishing point, distant objects seem to be little and parallel lines appear to converge. This
is the point of confusion whereby a person s beliefs about the purpose of life appear void. At this
point, a person is no longer sure whether purpose and destiny matter.
The speaker is analyzing the walk of life, the hopes and dreams that each one has concerning their
own life and their relationship to elapsing time. A person finds him or herself on a journey. The irony
of this journey is that it was destined by someone else and not ... Show more content on

It is not possible to tell whether the life of a person will be successful or not. For this reason, people
live in anxiety and the fear of the unknown. The speaker says that this walk is personal and everything
else does not matter. Besides, he describes that the direction where the road is leading has hardships.
He uses the poetry style of symbolism to metaphorize the concept of destiny. Did you really think you
were just out for an aimless stroll? by this question, the speaker implies that the direction of the
journey is of person s own making. The person decides which direction he or he wants to go.
However, in the end, the choice pf direction will matter.
The speaker discourages the readers against placing too much focus on the problem. In his poem, he
stipulates that a long focus on the horizon s mountains makes them seem too impossible to overcome.
And those mountains on the horizon: the longer you look, the more forbidding they become, bleak and

Rutgers University Scholarship Essay
Congratulations, you have been accepted to Rutgers University New Brunswick. These words were, to
me, the words of accomplishment and pride. However, these were not the only words Rutgers
University wrote to me. In the Fall of 2015, I was an incoming senior at Hunterdon Central Regional
High School. Excited about the years ahead, I applied to many schools throughout the United States. I
applied to two schools in Alabama, two schools in Indiana, two schools in New York, and only one in
New Jersey Rutgers. My initial goal was to be my own person and go to a University that no one in
my family had attended. In fact, my goal was to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
This was a dream because my closest grandfather had planned to go there to study engineering. Being
a bright student, he was accepted with a scholarship. Getting ready to leave to form a new beginning
and only a few days before graduation, his father passed away. Unable to go from New Jersey to
Indiana knowing that his family needed him, he decided to stay home and run the family tile business.

Struggles and Desires in A Streetcar Named Desire by...
In the play A Streetcar Named Desire, author Tennessee Williams uses his three main characters
Stanley, Stella and Blanche to illustrate the theme of sexual hedonism in a world where each struggles
for survival and desires to belong. Stanley Kowalski and his wife Stella live in a two room apartment
on Stanley s blue collar salary. They are visited by Stella s sister Blanche Dubois who has just lost the
family plantation, Belle Reve. The three exist in the jungle society of New Orleans where each is a
victim of animal desires, social pressures and use sex to try and gain control of the world around them.
Stanley is the protagonist who is trying to exist in the wild and as an untamed animal uses sex as
power and control. In the opening scene we see him toss meat wrapped in butcher paper to Stella,
almost like the lion who goes out to hunt and returns to the den with his kill, Stanley carries his
bowling jacket and a red stained package from a butcher...He heaves the package at her (13, 14). Later
in the play, during a poker game, Blanche continues to turn on the radio, even after Stanley has
demanded she leave it off. Stanley reacts, Stanley stalks fiercely through the portieres into the
bedroom... with a shouted oath, he tosses the instrument out the window (57). This is followed by the
beating of Stella by Stanley. Every instance of conflict for Stanley is resolved with aggressive
behavior, emphasizing his animal like tendencies, and how he uses violence to maintain

Persuasive Essay On Locker Searches
I feel that locker searches are an invasion of one s privacy. I also feel that through locker searches we
would be able to increase safety among schools, campuses, locker rooms and many other places.
Lockers are a area where you place a assortment of things in which for some people could include
hazardous things such as weapons, drugs, etc. Although all this is at risk I still feel as though lockers
should be private. And if one is not to be trusted with a locker why should he or she be issued a locker.
I suppose many horrible encounters have led behind the lack of locker searches. Endeavors such as

amount of medication in a student s locker. They d be dealing with the mourning and press of a

problem and diagnosing it properly. Through a locker you can definitely come to a many of
conclusion about a person. Such as their character or maybe cleanliness of that person. Sometimes
going through a person s things can mess with their dignity. But in all honesty safety of that person an
others is most important. Too many times have we turned our TVs on and witnessed the covering of a
tragedy of this sort on the news . Children who get fed up with the stress of the world and choose to

to stop the epidemic so I m strongly encouraging the notion for locker checks. Not disputing or

Importance Of Hatshepsut Building Programs
How important was Hatshepsut s building program? (5 Marks)
Hatshepsut s building programs played a major role in her reign as is shown through the praise they
still receive from the future generations. Hatshepsut main focus seemed to be her building programs as
she constantly refers to them. Once she acquired the role of pharaoh she started repairing buildings
that were neglected during the Hyksos occupation such as the temple of Hathor at Cusae, a temple for
Min and the temple of Thoth at Hermopolis. Her building programs consisted of completing Thutmose
II due to his short reign and constructing new buildings. Her new building programs consisted of her
mortuary temple at Deir el Bahri; the Red Chapel, obelisks and pylon at Karnak; the barque sanctuary
at Luxor and the cliff temple dedicated to the lion goddess, Pakhet at Beni Hassan. Her building
programs were important to further enhance her relationship with the Amun Re cult. Through her
buildings she reinforced her relationship with Amun, using it as propaganda to prove that she has the
right to claim the throne.

American Colonialism
Colonialism s effects are often noticed within certain ethnic and national groups. However, the roots
of the effects of colonialism extend far past the group; they begin in individual people. Conrad s Heart
of Darkness, Dickinson s I m Nobody! Who are you? and Cullen s Heritage each display how the
unique environment created through the clashing of cultures allows individuals to redefine and
discover themselves. Mr. Kurtz embodies the redefinition of oneself through colonialism. He is
transformed from a man known for his promise, [for] his greatness, [for] his generous mind, and [for]
his noble heart (Conrad 70) into a manipulative leader of the natives because colonialism allows him
to escape the strict expectations of English life. In African colonialism, there are no rules. Kurtz takes

After his escapades in the heart of Africa, Marlow is described as Buddha like. Conrad s purpose for
describing him as such is because being surrounded by uncharted waters, unfamiliar territory, and

spaces on the earth [that needs to be filled] with rivers and lakes and names (Conrad 4). This narrow
perspective is one he cultivated as a young boy and has carried with him until he travels to Africa.
Similarly to Marlow, the speaker in Dickinson s I m Nobody! Who are you? possesses self awareness.

she is comfortable with that fact. Following his stint in Africa, Marlow, too, becomes more self aware

Hebrew Bible Identity
The origin of the Hebrew Bible is unknown, but scholars believe the earliest collections of writings
first five books date back to nearly 3,500 years ago. The Pentateuch consist of these first five books.
The Old Testament, which it is also known as, influenced its time period and still continues to do so
today. The exile of the Judean people led their scholars to preserve their cultural identity through the
Hebrew Bible s usage of chiasm, repetition, and kinesthetic imagery. Each literary device was
designed so the audience could memorize the details and elite could easily pass down the stories
orally. In a society where only the professional elite read and wrote, The Bible was written down in a
series of years by a serious of these elites. It is believed to be written after the Babylonian Captivity.
The Judean people were first exiled to Babylon, and forced to assimilate into a society with a whole
other creation myth. The people of Judah were uprooted from their homes and forced to a new land,
Babylon. However, the exile ended at approximately 538 BCE when Cyrus The Great conquered
Persia and released the Jews back to Palestine. Upon return, scholars believe the first words of The
Bible were written. The first words were written because in times of grief and despair, religious
growth follows. So, when the Jews from Babylon returned home, a sense of spiritual renewal occurred
which forced the hands of scribes to document their faith, (Barton 369).

Leonardo Da Vinci
Leonardo Da Vinci: The Renaissance man
Leonardo Da Vinci was a successful man in more areas than artwork. From the time he was a boy, he
began studying the arts as well as the ideas of science, medicine, machinery, and much more. Da Vinci
s history is reflected in his paintings and inventions that have been able to change the world of then
and now. Leonardo s artistic vision led him down a prosperous path of life that has made him one of
the most innovative individuals the world has seen. With the help of a lot of childhood exposure to the
arts, along with the natural creativity born inside of him, Leonardo Da Vinci changed the fifteenth and
sixteenth centuries through his work.
Hardworking and curious from the beginning, Leonardo dove into any information he could get his
hands on in order to fulfill his natural talents of creation. Just at the age of 15 he began to work with
his father at the Verrochio work shop where he took the biggest step in his artwork. He grew up
around great artists, Verrochio himself, and mastered all the challenges art had too offer. He became so
good that around the age of 20 he made Verrochio retire in art, as well as become one of the most
famous painters known in Italy. Shortly after he began to work for a Duke, which is where he began to
branch into sculpting, designing buildings as well as weapons and machinery. Leonardo was never a

Networks Before The Cloud Of Cloud Computing
Networks before the Cloud
Cloud computing is the practice of using remote storage for applications and data. The idea itself is
not a new one; it has been in use for many years albeit under different names. In the earliest days of
the computer age machines had to be physically large to contain the hardware required to do their
jobs. It was impractical and prohibitively expensive to provide one of these mainframes for individual
users; not to mention for what they were used for, unnecessary. Instead, one central computer was
wired to several terminals that users could interface with. Typically, only large organizations such as,
major corporations or government agencies could afford one of these machines or had need of one.
This was the birth of cloud computing. Until the early 1980s this system was typical for any
organization requiring large amounts of processing power. It was considered unnecessary and difficult
to put the nuts and bolts of applications onto users desktop machines. Rather, by keeping applications
in a central location, they could be managed and updated more easily and large amounts of storage
space and processing power were not needed on desktop machines. Indeed, before this time there were
no desktop machines mass produced that could achieve this level of power. This was about to change.
Moore s law is the observation that, over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors
in a dense integrated circuit has doubled approximately every

  • 2. The Impact Of Internet Legislation On The Internet The goal of the legislation was to improve the access of the internet and to allow the consumers to receive equal access to all internet sites no matter what provider they are using. This allows people to select the applications or sites they wish to get their information, giving them a freedom not many have. As shown before these companies have been fined and reprimanded for breaking the law, however this brings forth a probe to see if this policy been successful in creating an equal internet for the consumer. According to CBS NL it states that the dutch legislation raised the over population of 84% avidly use the internet in 2012 versus the 78% of people in 2005. The statistics presented by the Central Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS) show that as the internet evolved people became more dependent on the internet leading to an expansion of people using the internet (CBS 2012). Additionally, the Netherlands holds the highest percentage of internet users than in most developed countries in Europe (CBS). However, as we see that more people in the Netherlands use the internet ISPs also introduced a raise in prices to help with the lost revenue the law created. Although consumers were being charged more many advocates still see it as a victory by stopping ISPs from raising the prices significantly higher than the are now creating a consensus between the ISPs and its consumers. • 3. Summary Of The Cocktail Waitress The Cocktail Waitress written by James P. Spradley and Brenda E. Mann is a 1975 classic. It studies in depth and examines a familiar female role in contemporary American society. Its authors use fieldwork methods to the study of social behavior in a college bar, as presented in the context of a cocktail waitress. They describe the daily lives of women in details and the meaning of work in a man s world. They provide a wealth of empirical data on the nature of being female in the society. The book examines male female relationships as well as patterns of male dominance in social interactions. It shows how these are connected to more general issues in anthropology. The objective presentation of the waitress casts light on significant social issues ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Aphra Ben s Oroonoko and Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders In his Dictionary of Literary Terms, Harry Shaw defines the novel: In effective narrative literature, fictional persons, through characterization, become so credible that they exist for the reader as real people, he says (1). Many eighteenth century British novelists neglected to earn this credibility. Looking specifically at Aphra Behn s Oroonoko and Daniel Defoe s Moll Flanders, Shaw s definition becomes especially difficult to apply to Moll and Oroonoko s narrator. While the novels should not be declared unsuccessful in their entireties, perhaps the sincerity claimed in both introductions only lessens their overall believability. In the opening lines of his preface, Defoe tells us, the Author is here suppos d to be writing her own History (1). Behn makes a similar claim in his novel: I was myself an eyewitness to a great part, of what you will find here set down, and what I could not be witness of, I received from the mouth of the chief actor in this history, the hero himself (75). And soon the authors claims prove themselves to be untrue with a sizeable lack of reality in their characterization. Perhaps we cannot blame the authors themselves, but rather their time. Serving as the inventors of the realist novel, eighteenth century writers like Aphra Behn and Daniel Defoe were without a foundation to follow and with the development of characters that are perhaps too unique, situations idealized, and blatant claims of truthfulness, thus fail to convince the ... • 5. Socrates, Philosophy and the Good Life Essay Socrates, Philosophy and the Good Life Socrates belief was that he was called on by the Gods to live his life examining others and himself. He believed the necessity of doing what one thinks is right even in the face of universal opposition, and the need to pursue knowledge even when opposed. I became completely convinced, to the duty of leading the philosophical life by examining myself and others. ¹ Socrates believed that to desert this idea was ridiculous and would make his life absurd. Socrates chose to live a life of truth and not to worry about things that did not matter. For Socrates not to live his life by the plans and requests of Gods it would be disobedient and untrue to the Gods. Socrates was brought to court to defend ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates asks the question Is there anyone in the world, Meletus, who acknowledges that human phenomena exist, yet does not acknowledge human beings? 9 After more questions of the same type, Meletus answers no. Socrates again proves his point. Socrates brings the irrational charge down to simple accusation because Meletus was a loss for a legitimate offense. Socrates says there is no conceivable way that a person who believes in spiritual beings does not believe in gods. The argument that proved inconsistency in Meletus answers was: spirits exists, God created spirits, therefore, the creator of spirits exists (God). It seems that Meletus did understand the laws of the court and was simply charging Socrates with any crime he could think of. Socrates goes to say that Meletus and Anytus will go on to convict many more good men and they will not stop with him. Socrates states that it will not be Meletus and Anytus that convict but the malice and slander and great hostility that will. Socrates refutes the irreligion charge by proving that since he believes in spirits he believes in gods. I have neglected the things that concern most people making money, managing an estate, gaining military power or civic honours, or positions of power. 10 Even today to most of the human race the good life is acquiring great status here on earth. Most men need to have much material possession, meaningful vocation, and a wealthy class. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Goods And Possessions In The Great Gatsby Goods/possessions All the sources use the idea of goods and possessions helping determine social class. All of the sources relate back to the story The Great Gatsby In the article What Would Veblen say? David Scott said Elites In Veblen s day would have probably giggled at the irony of the phrase stuff girls need... for so much less! Then again, advertisements such as this are not intended for people who need not worry about their budget. Here he is saying that the needs that most people say they have is actually a want .the upper class people do not have to worry about money so more and more things become a necessity to them. This is relatable to the novel the Great Gatsby when Myrtle buys a puppy for the apartment that she is barely in and will not even be able to take care of it. The higher class people think lots of goods are necessities when in fact they are wants. In The Great Gatsby , In that time period everybody was judged on the basis of material items. After the interim, the President reluctantly appointed her the role of Vice President of the University. Jennifer has devoted her entire career to Mid West University. She was initially hired as an Introductory History instructor. While teaching history, she earned her PH.D and became Assistant Professor due to her popularity and excellent teaching ability. Jennifer was involved in various activities on campus such as forming the first union, acquiring grants, writing skits for the faculty club s annual follies and generally offering her support to anyone who needed her assistance. She became President of the Faculty Senate where she served two years before being offered the position of Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs where for the next ten years she handled most of the academic complaints, oversaw several committees and wrote letters and reports for the then Vice President. As the new Vice President of the University Jennifer encountered many issues. Jennifer failed her responsibilities as a leader, and most importantly as the new vice president elected. In general, numerous studies have been investigating L1 transfer. In specific, the influence of Arabic, more specifically Saudi Arabic, in learning English has been examined to demonstrate the native language transfer in L2 learning (Binturki, 2008; Grami and Alzughaibi, 2012; among others). Based on the influence of L1 and universal markedness (things that are present in a small number of languages), Eckman (1977) proposes the Markedness Differential Hypothesis (MDH). It helps predicting errors that L2 learners will have based on a comparison between L1 and L2 and universal markedness. The aim of the present study is to examine to what extent the MDH can account for mispronunciation of word final voiced stops by Saudi Arabian learners of English. The results of this study contradict the MDH. Despite the fact that both Saudi Arabic and English have voiced stops word finally, the Saudi Arabian learners did not produce the voiced stops in coda positions correctly. The subjects tended mostly to either substitute or devoiced final voiced stops. This paper will start with a brief discretion of the word final voiced stops (/b d g/) in Saudi Arabic and English. • 20. Bronfenbrenner s Social Ecological Model Introduction The social ecological perspective is seen as a dynamic process in the development of people. The focus of the social ecological model is the interaction between the person and environment. The fundamental assumption is that behaviour is the result of the interaction between individuals and the contexts they are exposed to. (Visser, 2007, p. 103) Personality characteristics and behaviour develop in that interaction process. However psychological and biological factors do play an important role in this process. The personality development is mainly determined by the interaction between psychological, biological and environmental factors. While the subject of successful and vital aging can be inspiring and empowering, it undoubtedly requires flexibility and adaptation in response to changes in health and functioning that are quite common as individuals inevitably age. Through formulated theories and suppositions proposed throughout decades in gerontological studies, many agree upon consistencies that exist across chronological aging. However, there are many more individual paths and much heterogeneity among older adults. As a result, gerontologists in the years have incorporated issues such as privileges or disadvantage across the lifespan to better attempt to address some of the diversity among older adults to foster optimal or successful aging. Satisfaction with one s past and present life for example, has been the most commonly proposed definition of successful ageing. Nonetheless, it is also the most commonly investigated. While its components include fortitude, morale, autonomy and independence, self efficacy and overall wellbeing, the outcome of one s development over their lifespan is done so by utilizing past experiences to cope with present circumstances. Therefore, it is also seen as a multidimensional, particularized dynamic process. Indigenous Art And Other Manifestations Of Indigenous Culture Indigenous Art and other manifestations of Indigenous culture were discovered during the process of the colonization of Australia. The first Europeans to arrive in Australia made note of the cultural artifacts they encountered. Stanley Kowalski and his wife Stella live in a two room apartment on Stanley s blue collar salary. They are visited by Stella s sister Blanche Dubois who has just lost the family plantation, Belle Reve. The three exist in the jungle society of New Orleans where each is a victim of animal desires, social pressures and use sex to try and gain control of the world around them. Stanley is the protagonist who is trying to exist in the wild and as an untamed animal uses sex as power and control. In the opening scene we see him toss meat wrapped in butcher paper to Stella, almost like the lion who goes out to hunt and returns to the den with his kill, Stanley carries his bowling jacket and a red stained package from a butcher...He heaves the package at her (13, 14). A part of me believes they were put up in my honor. • 37. American Colonialism Colonialism s effects are often noticed within certain ethnic and national groups. However, the roots of the effects of colonialism extend far past the group; they begin in individual people. Conrad s Heart of Darkness, Dickinson s I m Nobody! Who are you? and Cullen s Heritage each display how the unique environment created through the clashing of cultures allows individuals to redefine and discover themselves. Mr. Kurtz embodies the redefinition of oneself through colonialism. He is transformed from a man known for his promise, [for] his greatness, [for] his generous mind, and [for] his noble heart (Conrad 70) into a manipulative leader of the natives because colonialism allows him to escape the strict expectations of English life. Conrad s purpose for describing him as such is because being surrounded by uncharted waters, unfamiliar territory, and cannibals who show commendable amounts of resistance make Marlow more culturally aware. He sees the complexity in the world; he realizes that Africa is more than just one of the many blank spaces on the earth [that needs to be filled] with rivers and lakes and names (Conrad 4). This narrow perspective is one he cultivated as a young boy and has carried with him until he travels to Africa. Similarly to Marlow, the speaker in Dickinson s I m Nobody! The exile of the Judean people led their scholars to preserve their cultural identity through the Hebrew Bible s usage of chiasm, repetition, and kinesthetic imagery. In a society where only the professional elite read and wrote, The Bible was written down in a series of years by a serious of these elites. It is believed to be written after the Babylonian Captivity. The Judean people were first exiled to Babylon, and forced to assimilate into a society with a whole other creation myth. The people of Judah were uprooted from their homes and forced to a new land, Babylon. However, the exile ended at approximately 538 BCE when Cyrus The Great conquered Persia and released the Jews back to Palestine. Upon return, scholars believe the first words of The Bible were written. The first words were written because in times of grief and despair, religious growth follows. • 42. Networks Before The Cloud Of Cloud Computing Networks before the Cloud Cloud computing is the practice of using remote storage for applications and data. The idea itself is not a new one; it has been in use for many years albeit under different names. In the earliest days of the computer age machines had to be physically large to contain the hardware required to do their jobs. It was impractical and prohibitively expensive to provide one of these mainframes for individual users; not to mention for what they were used for, unnecessary. Instead, one central computer was wired to several terminals that users could interface with. Typically, only large organizations such as, major corporations or government agencies could afford one of these machines or had need of one. This was the birth of cloud computing. Until the early 1980s this system was typical for any organization requiring large amounts of processing power. It was considered unnecessary and difficult to put the nuts and bolts of applications onto users desktop machines. Rather, by keeping applications in a central location, they could be managed and updated more easily and large amounts of storage space and processing power were not needed on desktop machines. Indeed, before this time there were no desktop machines mass produced that could achieve this level of power. This was about to change. Moore s law is the observation that, over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit has doubled approximately every ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
