Seven Pounds Essay
Introduction Personality is the sum total od the actual or potential behaviour patterns of the
organism, as determined by heredity and environment (Binger, 2014). The film Seven Pounds
(Seven Pounds, 2008) revolves around Ben Thomas, a man with a tremendous secret that
drastically and destructively changed his and seven others lives. He is the cause of a car crash,
which kills his wife and six other people. On his journey to receive redemption for himself he sets
out to change the lives of seven different strangers for the better. The two chosen theories, which
apply to the main protagonist Ben Thomas personality, are the Eysenck Theory and the sub section
of Maslow s Theory of personality; self actualising. Ben is a careful, thoughtful and... Show more

He is methodical, reserved, and rigid in his journey recounted in Seven Pounds (Seven Pounds,
2008). Thomas disassociates from himself as he systematically betters seven lives despite it
being the end of his own. This seems to be unimportant in the grand scheme of his plan,
something to be disregarded; the selfless aspect of his melancholic personality plainly plays a
large role as the lead driving force, furthering the plot of this film. There are many parallels
between Maslows theory of self actualization and Eysenck s introversion. They are both
personality types that fit the leading hero Ben Thomas. Both show characteristic of people who
are reserved, plan their actions and control their emotions. They tend to be serious, reliable and
pessimistic (McLeod, 2007). Maslow used the term self actualization to describe a desire, not a
driving force, that could lead to realizing one s capabilities. Maslow did not feel that self
actualization determined one s life; rather, he felt that it gave the individual a desire, or motivation
to achieve budding ambitions (Gleitman et al. 2004). This is in contrast to the correlation between
Thomas personality and his actions. I believe it is through the melancholic aspect of his personality
he is able to carry out his plan through the methodical, antisocial and thoughtful manner driven by
the introverted facet of him. While I see that it is the self actualized aspect

The Triton Fountain By Gian Lorenzo Bernini
The Triton Fountain was specially made for Pope Urban VIII Barberini by Gian Lorenzo
Bernini. The fountain is placed at the center of the piazza; the fountain represents the God of Sea
with anthropomorphic body and huge fish tail, kneeling on an open shell supported by the tails of
four dolphins. The dolphins, leaning towards each of the four cardinal directions, open their
mouths to swallow the water of the surrounding pool, telling us that they drink up all the waters of
the world. The fins of the dolphins clutch the crown of Urban VIII, with papal tiara, keys of St.
Peter, and Barberini bees. The Triton as the subject of this fountain is a very interesting choice.
According to many historical sources, PopeUrban VIII was a very talented poet, and he was very
well known for his pursuits in this field. Triton was someone who achieved a sacred unity with
nature and literature. And as we can see from the monument, the Triton was an appropriate public
monument to Pope Urban s distinguished literary accomplishments. On the other hand, this
explanation of the connection between Triton and Pope Urban is not effective, and unquestionably
does not give us full information. American art historian John Beldon Scott has established that
Urban was suspicious of pagan imagery for fear it might lead the faithful astray. This suggests that
the Triton Fountain may imply to something more significant than just the simple literary symbol.
Also, it is important to mention that at least three

Comparison Of Poseidon Vs. Megatron
Poseidon vs. Megatron What makes someone a true villain? Someone powerful but answers to
another or someone so powerful no one could command him? A villain is someone so strong or
powerful the can do whatever they want, including evil. Movies and books have many famous
villains but two incredible ones are Poseidon a villain written by the Greek poet, Homer, and
Megatron a villain from the movie Transformers. When put next to Poseidon, Megatron is better
for numerous reasons. Some people believe that Poseidon is the most formidable villain in
literature because he is angry, powerful, and vengeful.Unfortunately, Poseidon is angry. According
to the book the Odyssey, Poseidon god of the sea, stared angrily down at him, brandishing his great

National Collegiate Athletic Association
Dr. Mark A. Emmert, since October of 2010 you have been the president of a great organization
by the name of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, or NCAA for short. Prior to being the
president for the NCAA, it is known that you have made a great impact on the success of various
well known universities. While at the University of Washington, the university was second in
standings among all public and private institutions in research funding with $1 billion in grants and
contracts per year. With your experience in the financial field, you hold the potential to make the
NCAA a better organization for its most important habitants, the players. I believe that you, Dr.
Emmert, hold the key to better conditions for college athletes across the United States of America.
(Jcoram) Others that should join the cause are university presidents, athletic departments, sport
commissioners, and coaches as well. When it comes to the world of sports, all sports, many topics
come into debate when discussing the day to day issues facing athletes and their chosen careers.
Many concerns with athletes are usually two sided and are black and white arguments without
much gray area in between. Most of these issues with sport revolve around the athletes who play
them. Such problems that sports spectators argue about are the leagues and athletes choices and if
they are beneficiary to the sport that they consume. Many athletes of all levels make great sacrifices

Society s Preoccupation With Risk
The risk society has created a risk awareness in the Criminal Justice System. Professionals have
become anxious of the hazards presented by modernisation , new innovative strategies to deal with
the risks, and technological advances. These developments have caused uncertainty, creating further
risks and a collective vulnerability to riskawareness (Giddens, 1991). This assignment will
critically analyse the way in which society s preoccupation with risk, influences the way in which
the probation service and police work.
The first part of this paper will discuss the significate changes to probation practice, by reviewing
probation history from the 1960s in England and Wales. Discussing how influential penal trends,
policy and practice evolution, have resulted in social work and probation work training becoming
detached (Robinson and McNeill, 2004). Retributivism theory in a culture of risk will be studied,
with the recommendations to punishment examined. The what works agenda (Martinson, 1974)
will be discussed progressing on to the emergence of populist punitiveness , and critically
examining the correlation with risk theory. Focusing on the progression of probation practice in late
modernity, and the use of risk assessments, it focuses on the risk instruments of clinical, actuarial
and mixed approaches. Attention is also given to Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements
(MAPPA), and how the probation service and police, work together to protect the public

Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs
You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67
million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet
Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog
descended from wolves and the cat descended from some larger wild catbut it is a little more
complicated than that.
So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with
humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than
34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the
size of the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History).
The NC Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers
in the 1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as
companions (Pushy Plants).
Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North
America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw
that they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store
crops, such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of
prey and the people appreciated cats even more (Zax).
The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists

A Thousand Splendid Suns, By Henrik Isben s A Doll s...
In Khaled Hosseini s A Thousand Splendid Suns, Henrik Isben s A Doll s House, and Kamala
Markandaya s Nectar in a Sieve, women face obstacles that disempower and silence them due to
Men s treatment of women, the societal view of women, and the objectification of women. Within
the literary works analyzed this semester, disempowerment is a persisting theme that roots from the
various obstacles and hardships women encounter. The woman s ability to overcome this
disempowerment is particularly challenging due to being oppressed by their peers, specifically
men. Women countlessly serve as victims of verbal and physical abuseunder their husbands, thus
contributing to the idea of female inferiority. There are various stereotypical roles challenged
between men and women in society leading to discrimination of women. The preconceived notions
of women s roles in society arise from those within society. During this time era, most of society
depicts women as uneducated, essentially lacking economical and social opportunities, making the
female population highly vulnerable to all types of exploitation. Nonetheless, men in these literary
works display objectifying and degrading attitudes towards those of the female gender. The
objectification of women notably dehumanizes the female population. Within these literary works,
the authors exemplify this reality of obstacles that disempower and silence women. Though these
women fight for their liberation and equality, they are victims of

Foils And Foils In Roman Fever By Edith Wharton
Opposites don t always attract. In Edith Wharton s Roman Fever , the two main characters seem
to be almost complete opposites of each other. In fact, it can be argued that they are actually
foils of each other. Foils in literature are described as a foil is a character that shows qualities
that are in contrast with the qualities of another character with the objective to highlight the
traits of the other character (LiteraryDevices Editors). Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade seem to at
first be foils of each other, but only on the last page and in the finale act of the story do we see
that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade may not be so different after all. Armine Kotin Mortimer in
their essay makes this claim, We see each in turn through the somewhat tainted view of the other
(Mortimer 189). I agree with this. The two women definitely don t see each other as similar in
any way. Mortimer says that the women both see each other as if they themselves as better
(Mortimer 189). They are different from each other, but both think lowly other the other. The
smaller and paler one shook her head (Wharton 116). The other lady, who was fuller and higher in
color... (Wharton 116). These two sentences show us that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade are very
different from each other. Mrs. Grace Ansley is a quiet, reserved, pale, small woman(Wharton 116).
In turn, Mrs. Alida Slade is a loud, outgoing, large, articulate woman (Wharton 116). The two
women seem to be complete opposites of each other in

Tanning Beds Usage Among High School Students
Tanning Bed Usage Among High School Students
Introduction here
Tanning Beds and Health Outcomes
Among the general public the use of tanning beds is associated with a variety of health risks.
According to Madigan and Lim (2016), some of the risks include an increased occurrence of skin
cancers (melanoma and nonmelanoma) and becoming psychologically dependent on using tanning
beds. Another interesting health outcome linked to tanning bed use is people who use them tend to
participate in other high risk health behaviors (Madigan Lim, 2016, 640). For the purpose of this
paper, I will focus on the skin cancer and high risk behavior outcomes linked with tanning bed use.
Melanoma Nonmelanoma Skin Cancer
According to International Agency for Research on Cancer s (2007) systematic review about
sunbeds and melanoma cancer worldwide, First exposure to sunbeds before 35 years of age
significantly increased the risk of melanoma (1116). Further research strengthens the link between
tanning beds and melanoma. Lazovich et al. (2010) studied the diagnosed cases of melanoma in
the state of Minnesota between 2004 2007. The age group they studied was 25 59, and asked the
study participants about their tanning bed practices (1557). They found out that the odds ratio for
the likelihood of melanoma in relation to having ever tanned indoors was 1.74...Melanoma risk
increased markedly with frequency of use (Lazovich et al., 2010, 1564).
There is also considerable evidence regarding the use

NaГЇve B Lymphocytes
NaГЇve B lymphocytes express two classes of membrane bound antibodies, IgM and IgD that
function as the receptor for antigens. These naГЇve B cells are activated by antigens. The activation
of B lymphocytes results in the proliferation of antigen specific cells, also called clonal expansion
and their differentiation into effector cells that actively secrete antibodies. During their
differentiation, some B cells may begin to produce antibodies of different heavy chain classes (or
isotypes). This process is called heavy chain class (isotype) switching. Repeated exposure to a
proteinantigen results in the production of antibodies with increasing affinity for the antigen. This
process is called affinity maturation and it lead to the production

Big Brother s Language In The Book 1984 By George Orwell
The passage on pages 80 and 81 is significant because it shows how if Big Brother is able to make
everyone believe the most simple fact is different than what they know to be true, then he can
change any piece of information without opposition. By using the fear of what happens when
people go against Big Brother and the government, they can make people believe two plus two
equals five (80). Everyone knows two plus two equals four, it s one of the most basic facts and
can be proven on our fingers. If Big Brother announces that two plus two equals five, everyone
will be forced, through fear, to believe it to be true. Even though they can prove two plus two

To be able to control what the populous does, Big Brother has set up telescreens and cameras
everywhere in the non Prole parts of Oceania, specifically in people s homes, that allow him and
his government to watch all party members movements and words. This surveillance allowed
Big Brother to control the populous because everyone lived from habit that became instinct in
assumption that every sound you made was heard, and, except in darkness, every movement
scrutinized (3). By forcing everyone to live knowing that everything they did was being
watched, Big Brother was able to restrict the actions and conversations of the people. People tend
to act differently if they knew they were alone compared to if they knew they were being
watched. This is because when you are being watched, you feel the need to act more appropriate
and not do anything that could be considered weird. The reason the people of Oceania were to be
controlled to the point of seeming like sheep, was because of the fear that was instilled through the
Thought Police. Just being watched can partially control someone s actions due to them not wanting
to seem weird, but by placing an inescapable death penalty on anyone that acts up, Big Brother can

Argumentative Essay On Child Soldiers
Are you aware that right now, at this very moment, there is a group of young boys ages 8 13 who
are clenching a gun being ordered to kill against their will? It s understood that others opinions
about the dangers of child soldiers being free are only because they don t want to risk anything but,
isn t life all about taking risks? You risk your life leaving the house, and breathing. Also, countries
should not prosecute childsoldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime. There also
should not be an international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and
crimes against humanity. Here are three reasons why they should not be prosecuted or held
responsible. Also that there should not be an age limit. One. Children are afraid, young, and
clueless. Two. Children are 99.99% of the time drugged, forced, and brainwashed. Children are
often brainwashed and drugged before they are forced to fight. Their vulnerability can allow
warlords to make them into cold blooded killers (O Neill 1 ). Three. Children are independent,
lonesome, and they want/need a family. One that gives them love. First, children being afraid,
young, and clueless, leads to nothing but chaotic events. When it comes to death, what child would
not be afraid? They do not know what s going on and what s happening. Especially children ages 5

Sport Specialization In Sport
Sport Specialization At a young age, children tend to start participating in sports as a way to get
active and learn both athletic as well as life skills. Their parents might start them off with one sport
and then before you know it the child is juggling a handful of sports to see, which ones they like.
As these young athletes get older, they tendto get stuck at a crossroad. The athletes are posed with
the same decision: to specialize in one sportor to continue playing all the sports they love.
However, do athletes that specialize in one sport perform better as they grow up compared to
those that continue playing multiple sports? It is important to resolve this question because there
has been a rise in early youth sport specialization over the last few years due to pressure put on
athletes by their coaches and parents, rather than a logical rationale (Myer 2015).
Often, as young athletes reach middle school and high school levels, coaches and parents tend to
see the potential these athletes have. As a result, the athletes are persuaded and or forced into
quitting certain sports to specialize in their dominant sport with hopes of achieving more success.
However, these children miss out in experiences they might have had if they didn t quit those
sports. If they choose not to quit, they are usually treated differently by their coaches. Coaches will
talk to them in a hasty manner compared to other kids or even discipline them harder, solely
because the athlete didn t do

considered a Level 1 national security type of event, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
takes over security of the entire event. (Jessop, 2013) The FBI has operated a central Joint

Retrograde and Anterograde Amnesia Essay examples
Retrograde and Anterograde Amnesia
Darling, what did you say was Sue s number?
I don t remember stripping at Dan s birthday party last year!
No officer, I don t know what happened after the accident. I can t even remember my name.
Amnesia is the partial or complete loss of memory, most commonly is temporary and for only a
short period of time. (1). There are various degrees of amnesia with the most commonly occurrence
being either retrograde or anterograde amnesia. Prior to my research into this subject I did not know
much about amnesia besides what is portrayed in the Disney movie Anesthesia in which Anesthesia
cannot remember her traumatic childhood. While I recognize that there is a huge difference

This is an example of short term memory.
Long term memory is the information we retain after a day, two weeks, or ten years. (4).
In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue.
This is an example of long term memory as almost every child is asked to commit this fact to
memory.
So, what does all this have to do with amnesia? Well, I m glad you asked. Information flows in
through the middle of our brain and branches out like a tree. Before that information goes to
different areas, it goes through a channeling/filter system. In this regard, the brain is like a
mailroom this information goes into this box, and that letter goes into that box. (4). In order for
short term memory to become long term memory, it must go through a process know as
consolidation. During consolidation, short term memory is repeatedly activated so much that
certain chemical and physical changes occur in the brain, permanently embedding the memory for
long term access. It is believed that consolidation takes place in the hippocampi, located in the
temporal lobe regions of the brain. Medical research indicates that it is the frontal and temporal
lobes that most often damaged during head injury. (3).
As the amnesiac recovers, he or she usually recalls older memories first, and then more recent
memories. (3). However, memories tend to return like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle; these bits

Military Apprenticeship Paper
United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP)
Veteran s today face many challenges as they seek civilian jobs, according to the Bureau of Labor
Statistics 2014 report more than 190,000 of the 2.8 million Gulf War II Veterans cannot find work,
USMAP could help resolve this issue (Watson, 2014). Senior Enlisted Leaders need to understand
the advantages USMAP in order to provide transitioning service members from active duty to
civilian life. This paper will provide the background information, discussion, and recommendation
for the increased use of USMAP.
Background Information
Veteranunemployment is an ever increasing issue for service members departing from active duty.
USMAP established as a formal military training program in 1999 through the consolidation of the
U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Naval apprenticeship programs, and the U.S. Coast Guard
apprenticeship programs in 2007, the program supplies service members with certification as
Journey Workers per standards of the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) in specific occupational
fields. USMAP could seriously assist in reducing the number of unemployed veterans. With the
background information provided, the discussion will provide further information.

Currently there are nearly 64,000 active apprentices enrolled. Service members are able to choose
the trade they pursue as long as it relates to their military occupation. Upon completion of the
program, participants receive a nationally recognized Completion Certificate to help attract
employers when a service member returns to the civilian workforce (Aleshire, 2012). A current
trend in USMAP shows an increase in personnel registering in the program, however due to current
deployments and schedules many members are not completing for the following reasons (Shatkin ,

Monuments Men Book Report
Monuments Men Summary and Strong Response Essay Personally, history intrigues me. I love
learning about things that helped shape our country and others. There s only one catch, listening
to a teacher lecture about history kills me. It is, in my opinion, the most boring thing in the
world ever to sit through. It s not the teachers fault by any means, they re just doing their job. It s
just that I can t stand listening to lecture after lecture. So when I can do research on my own, or
learn about it in my own way, it makes it so much more enjoyable. While reading this book, Edsel
brought things to my attention that I never would ve have thought were of importance back then.
For example, the whole book is about art preservation and the importance of art to societies around
the world, something that I never really cared about until after I read this book. Edsel shows the
importance of art in historythrough this book, which is that art connects everyone because it is a
representation or reminder of our heritage and culture. From this viewpoint, Edsel broadens his
audience immensely, and understand and appreciate art like he does. The story begins in the city
of Karlsruhe, Germany. Karlsruhe was a city that the Jews had lived in peacefully for a great

William Frankfurt s Little Book On Bullshit
Consistently, we can see clear cases of both bologna and lying and the differing outcomes of both
these activities. Be that as it may, what is horse crap, precisely? What are the qualities of bologna?
What is reality? Will horse crap be destructive? The motivation behind this paper is to answer these
inquiries while in the meantime demonstrating that horse crap can most likely once in a while be
hurtful. By looking at: the importance of horse crap as characterized by Harry Frankfurt, why
Frankfurt believes that bologna is hurtful, and an obviously safeguarded unique contention, the
likelihood of mischief from bullshitting will be demonstrated. In Harry Frankfurt s little book On
Bullshit , he recognizes the significance of bologna while in the meantime demonstrating to us
various ways that it can be destructive. The substance of horse crap fixates on the thought that
bullshitters have no sympathy toward reality. In any case, genuine horse crap broadens past this
inside thought on the grounds that we understand that bullshitters allocate no quality to truth in any
connection. To any individual who values reality in any way, horse crap can totally confuse them in
light of the fact that they think that its difficult to accept individuals would just totally dismiss
reality with no push to finding it. Bologna varies from lying in light of the fact that liars perceive
reality and simply decide to hoodwink on the grounds that they think something else or need others

College Observation
There are many factors that I can improve on in the future for the next observations. First of all the
organization of the data along with the time measurement are improvements that can be made.
Instead of measuring five minutes I would measure every 15 minutes, making it four rounds in one
hour. Within that hour we can also use a timer so that we don t lose track of time. Also the time
that we had to measure was on a Monday and Wednesday, for the next observationI would add in a
Tuesday or Thursday. Since the observation was done on a campus we didn t get different age
ranges besides the college age. By measuring data at a Chic Fil A in the public we would get a

I have learned the hard way that it is better to just bring your own lunch then wait for the lines at
Chic Fil A or other restaurants to go down. By the time that we get our food we only have a couple
of minutes before our next class. There is so much activity to measure in that hour and in that place.
The theme from this observation was gender, age and race majority that ordered at Chic Fil A. The
majority of the students who ordered here make up the 72% population who are white at CMU,
therefore it was not a surprise that they were the majority of the clients (College Factual, 2013).
But there are about 8% more females on campus, but males ordered more than females (College
Factual, 2013). To find out why they chose to eat at Chic Fil A would be a different research
project. I am researching the gender, age, and race of the people at the university center that order
Chic Fil A. I decided to research this because I have noticed the crazy long line during lunch ever
since they opened the restaurant in the beginning of the year. I thought it would be interesting to
learn which students at the school are the top buyers. Eating patterns are something that I was able
to see during this observation. With all the new fast food, corporate restaurants that are coming to

Feminism In Eve Ensler s Buffy The Vampire Slayer
In the spring of 1997 Buffy the Vampire Slayer debuted a show that addressed aspects of feminism
that were brought to life in society. This was around the same time the third wave of feminism
began. The wave started in the early 1990s and continues through present day and it is responding
to the failures of the second wave of feminismand also addressed the backlash that the second
created. Although there are many ideas from the second wave that they still used as a fighting tool
to keep the wave going. For example, the making domestic abuse shelters for women and children,

this was less important. The effective ways of speaking out in the third weave came by feminists
showed their concerns through sexist images and symbols. A play that later turned to a book, The
Vagina Monologues, written by Eve Ensler explored women s feelings with sexuality that
discussed vagina centered topics, for example, orgasms, birth, and rape. The third wave redefined
women and girls as assertive, powerful, and in control of their own sexuality. The third wave, to an
extent almost unimaginable to the members of the first and second waves because some ideas had
many facets with people concerning their gender, ethnic, and class identities, experiences, and
interests. The third wavers sought to recalim and redefine the ideas that media placed ideas of
womanhood, gender, femininity, and masculinity. The third wave brought into existence the idea
that gender is not based on your traits you recieve at birth. Instead it is the idea that a person
determines what their gender is based on how they feel. Another important aspect of feminism in
this wave was sex

The Dangers Of The Atomic Bomb
On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 am America released an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima in
Japan, (Hersey 1). This action was done to put an end to World War II, and bring the soldiers of
America back home. For many Americans, the dropping of the bomb meant nothing but to do
what had to be done. The end results were not taken into account because there was no way to
know what could happen when using new technology, (Okazaki). The results of the atomic
bomb alone had a casualty rate of about 135,000 people, of that 66,000 died and 69,000 were
injured, (The Atomic Bombings). Prior to the atomic bomb, Japan had already lost their a
majority of their defense, only had their navy left and was nearly destroyed. From data, we were
able to find out an equivalent to that bomb had more power than two thousands tons of TNT,
(Hersey 49). The excessive amount of power did not help to solve anything, it only created a
race for nuclear power, (The Cold War). The dropping of the Atomic bomb was an inhumane use
of power and all countries should destroy the use of atomic power because it does not single out
the enemies from Japan, but it also affects Japan s civilians in that area innocent or not. All
within a few seconds, families and friends were torn from each other without a chance for any
last words, all at the hands of the American people. The result of this action led very few people
who were able to care for those who needed help because very few people were left uninjured. The

Ceremony Of Loss Essay
When the first ceremony took place, a couple was given a male newchild named Caleb as a
replacement child. To begin with, according to The Giver, the first Caleb, who was 4 years old,
wandered away unnoticed, and had fallen into a river, and had died. As a result, the Ceremony of
Loss occurred, which is murmuring the name throughout the whole day, less often, quieter, so that
the child is forgotten. To add on, this incident shows that the community tried to eliminate any
dangerous situations because perhaps the death of the first Caleb could cause problems by
frightening the rest of the community and in an attempt to to prevent this, they make sure the child
who died, in this case, is forgotten. The text, The Giver, says, Loss of a child... Show more content

completely forgot about him and as stated by The Giver, so that the little Four seemed to fade
away gradually from everyone s consciousness. This explains that slowly, they erased a child from
their minds because they didn t want to face the fact that you can t protect everyone from
everything and that not everything will stay the same forever. They marked the new Caleb s

directly the opposite of the Ceremony of Loss, and instead of the name slowly disappearing, it
gradually became imprinted into everyone s minds once more. The community murmured it quietly

Food Stamps Essay
Food stamps are an important component of low income families monthly resources, increasing
the chances that families are able to meet basic needs (Ratcliffe, McKernan Finegold, 2008). This
form of food relief dates back to the Great Depression when many Americans lost their jobs and
did not have money to feed their families. People were starving while farmers produced abundant
crop that could not be sold due to a lack of consumers with buying power (Dorsch, 2013). The
Federal Surplus Relief Corporation which was a part of the Agricultural Adjustment Act, bought
basic farm goods at low prices and distributed the among hunger relief agencies in different states
and local communities (Congressional Digest, 2013).

This was a great addition to the Food Stamp Act because it helped to better serve those in need.
In 1993, the year where Second Harvest s data was collected, it was reported that 62.9% of
impoverished adults were women, and 60%.9 of adult emergency food users were women. 40%
of all poor people and 42.9% of emergency food clients were children. The Second Harvest study

was working/need more money and the third was emergency/crisis and term that could have meant
eviction or sudden death from the breadwinner or natural disasters like hurricanes (Poppendieck,

Human Emotion And Its Effect On Human Consciousness
The purpose of life, to some degree, is to seek happiness and to seek out other people to achieve
that happiness. Sigmund Freud developed this idea, which is known as the pleasure principle,
claiming to explain that the human consciousness and subconsciousness revolve around this idea. If
someone is isolated, then they will try to alleviate that suffering in one way or another. Human
emotionis reduced to extremely simple terms, unlike what they truly are, which is extremely
complex. The idea of reducing humans to such a simple understanding seems unfair, but it carries a
sense of truth to it. Every person on Earth is seeking for pleasure, and it carries truth because no
person appreciates the feelingof unpleasantness. Isolation is a defense method against the world to
seek pleasure and to avoid unpleasant feelings in life. Freud believes that everyone attempts to get
away from things that cause us pain and suffering and that everyone feels suffering as a result of
society, but the way people attempt to alleviate this suffering defines us as a person.
Two people could be faced with the death of a close relative, but the one who alleviates his
suffering through drugs is very different from the one who alleviates his suffering through burying
himself in his work. The exploration of Freud s ideas through different characters of the two
stories, Sonny s Blues and Ceremony, reveal that Freud s principles regarding human nature are not
the basis for all human life. Sonny s

Advertising and Experience Design Strategies
In the business world today, marketers have various options on how to promote and sell their
products and services. On top of the traditional methods of advertising such as print adverts and
direct marketing, today there is web based advertising, email advertising as well as many social
media sites such as Twitter, You tube, Linked In and Facebook. Businesses have now learn that
traditional methods of advertising are not as effective as they used to be. Marketers must realize
that promotion and communication have changed due to the Internet and technological
advancement (Molan, 2011, pp.34). Therefore, due to the existence of a range of advertising
channels, marketing executives must effectively manage the integrated marketing communications
(IMC) to achieve desired results (Laric Lynagh, 2010, pp.109). These IMC include the use of
social media, experience design and advertising.
This paper analysis the IMC strategies of Dell Incorporation (Dell Inc.) in promoting and
advertising its products. The discussion will further analyze and compare Dell Inc. s strategies
with that of its major competitors. Dell recently entered the industry of tablets by launching its
products Latitude 10 devices and XPS 10. The company had to go back to the drawing board and

Excessive of Self-restraint in Saint Augustine’s Confessions
Excessive of Self restraint in Saint Augustine s Confessions
When it comes to renunciation, no pain, no gain is what I ve slowly, reluctantly, inexorably
come to believe. And when Pete opted for scholarly monkhood, I think he was just trying to
outsmart his pain. . . . He d calculated that by considering the physical world illusory and burying
his nose in metaphysical texts he could go on doing something comfortable while his ignorance
and sufferings and hometown and troublesome family just fell away like so much excess
poundage. Obviously l question his calculations: to slough off half a self in hopes of finding a

But Aristotle writes,
There is also a type who feels less joy than he should at the things of the body and, therefore, does
not abide by the dictates of reason. . . . For a morally weak person does not abide by the dictates
of reason, because he feels more joy than he should in bodily things, but the man under discussion
feels less joy than he should. (NE22)[2]
Aristotle does not give a name to this type of person, so we shall call him the moral martyr. Moral
martyrs abandon worldly pleasures such as friendship, food, and entertainment for the apparent
benefits of self restraint. Therefore, they are deficient in their enjoyment of worldly pleasures and
excessive in their use of self restraint.
Saint Augustine has clearly taken the path of moral martyrdom. He writes, The eye is attracted to
beautiful objects, by gold and silver and all such things. There is great pleasure, too, in feeling
something agreeable to the touch, and material things have various qualities to please each of the
other senses . . . . But our ambition to obtain all these things must not lead us astray (Conf., 48). In
claiming this much, he is in agreement with Aristotle a man who pursues every pleasurable thing in
life is succumbing to moral weakness. But instead of merely advising restraint, Saint Augustine
encourages the complete avoidance of worldly pleasures. For example, he writes, I admit that I still
find some enjoyment in the music of hymns . . . . I confess

Landlord And Tenant Board Observation Report
Landlord and Tenant Board
Introduction:
This report is an observational summary of the Landlord and Tenant Board, located at 3 Robert
Speck Parkway Suite 520 Mississauga, Ontario L47 2G5. Throughout Tuesday, January 26th, 2016
and Wednesday, January 27th, 2016, the Landlord and Tenant Board held many different cases.
The office building was in close proximity to a public bus stop, which had a route leading
directly from Brampton. The bus schedule operated every 9 minutes, and there were
conveniently two Brampton busses that lead into the location, the 502 and the 103. However if
you were going everyday it would become very costly. If you were someone, with a car, it would
be simple to drive from Brampton to Mississauga. Front entrance parking was easily accessible,
but there was a cost for parking, for the whole day it was $7.00, for an hour $5.25, for 40 minutes
$3.50 and for 20 minutes $1.75. As for the parking, it was more favourable to have your own
source of transportation nonetheless it could become pricey.
The building had front desk with a security guard who was able to direct you to the floor you
needed to go to. The Landlord and Tenant Board was located on the 5th floor, the Board Office

Justice And Justice In Hamlet
The definition of justice can mean many distinctive things. However it can make people forgive,
or get revenge. I think it just depends on the situation. In my Final Essay, I m going to answer this
question for you, Can justice and forgiveness go hand in hand? There are numerous amounts of
examples I will show you, and one of them even includes a film called Simon Birch. Justiceis what
you fight and earn properly. Revenge is naГЇve, and can be hurtful, if somebody hurts you, handle it
maturely and respectfully.
The well known play by Shakespeare, Hamlet; is one example of justice and forgiveness. Hamlets
uncle, Claudius kills his own brother, Hamlet Sr. He puts poison in his ear while he was dozing.
Hamlet finds out and doesn t tell anyone, everyone think he has gone mad, even his own mother,
Gertrude. Claudius marries Gertrude and becomes king. Hamlet continues to make a play about
how Claudius killed Hamlet Sr. and Claudius feels uncomfortable and leaves. During the whole

1.) To what extent could Dean expect to apply the philosophies and techniques of JIT described in
this chapter to the running of a staircase cell.
Dean Hammond can implement JIT techniques that seek to eliminate the significant amount of
waste that exists in his current operational processes. Basically, there are seven wastes to be
considered as obstacles in the lean system. It consists of over production, wasting time,
transportation, process, inventory, motion, and defectives. As a result of implementing this
concept, it will arrange a better valued chain and create a solid base of production.
While the customized nature of B B s products isn t conducive to the type of streamlining seen in
volume manufacturing applications, they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These same individuals could also be responsible for delivering these pieces to various stations,
eliminating the need for the station workers to do so.
By creating a staircase cell in their factory, B B can realize efficiencies that would allow them to
eliminate waste and be more competitive in the areas of price and lead time. This would eventually
reduce their order backlog, making their production more in line with estimates.
2.) What are likely to be the main categories of costs and benefits in establishing the cell? Are there
any non financial benefits which should be taken into account?
B B may face some initial outlay costs in creating specific staircase stations. Additionally, there
may be costs associated with training, as they ensure that their joiners can function as experts in
their respective areas. This might even require a short period of inactivity or even a halt in
production as they seek to get workers up to speed. However, the benefits seem to outweigh these
initial costs. B B would be in a position to handle more volume and could make far better use of
their existing resources. Orders would have a better chance of being completed on time and the
elimination of waste would allow for more competitive quotes. Ultimately, this would put B B in a
more competitive position to win business and become more profitable.
3.) At what stage, and how, should Dean sell his idea to the JoineryManager and the workers?
Mr. Hammond should sell

Electronic Media And Sleep Research
Electronic Media and Sleep Over the years, electronic media has contributed different ways in the
modern society, especially young adults, who has been the largest group among media users. The
use of Electronic Media has recently raised a concern regarding to sleeping behaviors that are
presented among students around the world. Since the early 21st century, researchers have
conducted a study that shows the connection between electronic media and sleeping patterns with
young adults (Journal of Sleep Research, 2014, 389). As students increasingly continue their habits
of using Electronic Media as personal entertainment purpose, they are at a potential risk of
developing insufficient amount of sleep as well as encountering health problems. Even though
Electronic Media has given students access to their education and promote social network
connection, Electronic Media use should be limited at school because too much exposure to
Electronic Media can cause health problems and social isolation among young adults and the use of
electronic media interferes with students sleeping habits. This paper will explore two of the main
scholarly articles that are published in 2014 as well as an authoritative source with similar research
procedures that involves, among young adults exposure to electronic media while also examining
the change of sleeping pattern habits among university students. Tavernier, Royette Willoughby,
Teena (2014) examines the sleeping duration among the sample

Taking a Look at the Manhattan Project
Although the Manhattan project was a bomb it was the psychological effects of the two bomb
droppings that did more damage than the actual destruction caused. The projected was started
through United States concern that the Germans were developing a similar weapon. It was kept
a well guarded secret and when it was used for the first time on a city caused a horrible shock.
The decision to use the bomb was not made lightly and had many different reasons behind it. It
was made especially hard after seeing the actual destruction it could cause because unveiling the
technology would lead to others wanting to replicate it. In the end though it was used on Japan and
though it caused less damage than previous air raids it lead to their surrender. While nuclear fission
was believed to be possible in Germany since 1938 it was not put into actionin the United States
until 1943. That year Allied scientists created a plan to use the fission to build an atomic bomb
before the Germans could. In early 1939 word spread like wildfire that Germany had learned hot to
split an atom. The fears this struck in the scientific community encouraged scientist, like Albert
Einstein, who fled Nazi persecution, and Enrico Fermi, who escaped Fascist Italy, to approach the
President. They wanted to express the dangers of the technology and to urge him to start an atomic
research program in the United States. Fermi decided to travel to Washington only to be faced with
the fact that no one else felt the

The World s Largest African Elephant
Satao the world s largest African elephant and one of the last surviving great tuskers was found
dead in Tsavo National Park, Kenya in June 2014. Satao was famous for its huge tusks that
reached down to the ground. The carcass of 45 year old elephant with its face mutilated and great
tusks hacked off was left for vultures and scavengers. Poachers had killed Satao with poisoned
arrows for the ivory that weighed over 100 pounds. According to the data provided by Landmark

The elephants once roamed around the continents of Africa and Asia in abundance. Growing
numbers of human population, environment and climate change has played vital role in the loss of
their natural habitat resulting in the decline of elephant population. At the beginning of the 20th
century, there were few million African elephants and over 100,000 Asian elephants. Today, their
estimated numbers range from 450,000 to 700,000 for African elephants and 35,000 to 40,000 for
Asian elephants.
Like most animals, elephants also play significant role in the ecosystem. The elephants help
maintain suitable habitats for other species. They pull down trees, clear out heavy bushes, dig
waterholes and create openings in the dense forests. Several tree species rely entirely upon elephant
droppings for seed dispersal and germination. Elephants require larger habitats to maintain food
supply that has brought them in direct competition with human race for living space. The ever
increasing human population has pushed elephants into smaller areas, exposing them to human
contact and hindering their freedom to roam. When humans and elephants live close together, the
herds of elephants crossing can damage crops and villages. Such incidents lead to conflicts with
humans in which elephants constantly lose and are killed.
Hunting has been one of the most significant reasons of the population decline in

  • 3. Seven Pounds Essay Introduction Personality is the sum total od the actual or potential behaviour patterns of the organism, as determined by heredity and environment (Binger, 2014). The film Seven Pounds (Seven Pounds, 2008) revolves around Ben Thomas, a man with a tremendous secret that drastically and destructively changed his and seven others lives. He is the cause of a car crash, which kills his wife and six other people. On his journey to receive redemption for himself he sets out to change the lives of seven different strangers for the better. The two chosen theories, which apply to the main protagonist Ben Thomas personality, are the Eysenck Theory and the sub section of Maslow s Theory of personality; self actualising. Ben is a careful, thoughtful and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is methodical, reserved, and rigid in his journey recounted in Seven Pounds (Seven Pounds, 2008). Thomas disassociates from himself as he systematically betters seven lives despite it being the end of his own. This seems to be unimportant in the grand scheme of his plan, something to be disregarded; the selfless aspect of his melancholic personality plainly plays a large role as the lead driving force, furthering the plot of this film. There are many parallels between Maslows theory of self actualization and Eysenck s introversion. They are both personality types that fit the leading hero Ben Thomas. Both show characteristic of people who are reserved, plan their actions and control their emotions. They tend to be serious, reliable and pessimistic (McLeod, 2007). Maslow used the term self actualization to describe a desire, not a driving force, that could lead to realizing one s capabilities. Maslow did not feel that self actualization determined one s life; rather, he felt that it gave the individual a desire, or motivation to achieve budding ambitions (Gleitman et al. 2004). This is in contrast to the correlation between Thomas personality and his actions. I believe it is through the melancholic aspect of his personality he is able to carry out his plan through the methodical, antisocial and thoughtful manner driven by the introverted facet of him. While I see that it is the self actualized aspect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Triton Fountain By Gian Lorenzo Bernini The Triton Fountain was specially made for Pope Urban VIII Barberini by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The fountain is placed at the center of the piazza; the fountain represents the God of Sea with anthropomorphic body and huge fish tail, kneeling on an open shell supported by the tails of four dolphins. The dolphins, leaning towards each of the four cardinal directions, open their mouths to swallow the water of the surrounding pool, telling us that they drink up all the waters of the world. The fins of the dolphins clutch the crown of Urban VIII, with papal tiara, keys of St. Peter, and Barberini bees. The Triton as the subject of this fountain is a very interesting choice. According to many historical sources, PopeUrban VIII was a very talented poet, and he was very well known for his pursuits in this field. Triton was someone who achieved a sacred unity with nature and literature. And as we can see from the monument, the Triton was an appropriate public monument to Pope Urban s distinguished literary accomplishments. On the other hand, this explanation of the connection between Triton and Pope Urban is not effective, and unquestionably does not give us full information. American art historian John Beldon Scott has established that Urban was suspicious of pagan imagery for fear it might lead the faithful astray. This suggests that the Triton Fountain may imply to something more significant than just the simple literary symbol. Also, it is important to mention that at least three ... • 9. Society s Preoccupation With Risk The risk society has created a risk awareness in the Criminal Justice System. Professionals have become anxious of the hazards presented by modernisation , new innovative strategies to deal with the risks, and technological advances. These developments have caused uncertainty, creating further risks and a collective vulnerability to riskawareness (Giddens, 1991). This assignment will critically analyse the way in which society s preoccupation with risk, influences the way in which the probation service and police work. The first part of this paper will discuss the significate changes to probation practice, by reviewing probation history from the 1960s in England and Wales. Discussing how influential penal trends, policy and practice evolution, have resulted in social work and probation work training becoming detached (Robinson and McNeill, 2004). Retributivism theory in a culture of risk will be studied, with the recommendations to punishment examined. The what works agenda (Martinson, 1974) will be discussed progressing on to the emergence of populist punitiveness , and critically examining the correlation with risk theory. Focusing on the progression of probation practice in late modernity, and the use of risk assessments, it focuses on the risk instruments of clinical, actuarial and mixed approaches. • 10. Brief History of the Domestication of Cats and Dogs You can find at least one cat or dog in almost every home in America. In fact, approximately 67 million households have pets and there are 164 million owned pets in the U.S. (U.S. Pet Ownership). But, do we know where our beloved pets came from? Many know that the dog descended from wolves and the cat descended from some larger wild catbut it is a little more complicated than that. So just what country did cats originate from? Researchers found that cats have been involved with humans for about 4,000 years. They also found a feline that roamed Eurasia and Africa more than 34 million years ago! That s a long time! This early cat weighed about twenty pounds and was the size of the bobcats we see today. It was called the Proailurus, which means early cat (Cat History). The NC Museum of Natural Scientists states that cats came to North America with Colonial settlers in the 1700 s. Humans have helped spread them throughout the world by keeping them as companions (Pushy Plants). Unlike dogs, cats are said to have domesticated themselves. When humans started settling North America and farming land, cats came in and protected the crops from rodents. The humans saw that they were good so they fed and protected the cats (Carver). The humans also began to store crops, such as grain, and with storage, came rats. The cats were delighted by the great amounts of prey and the people appreciated cats even more (Zax). The earliest breed of cats in Europe was the Angora. Scientists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Khaled Hosseini s A Thousand Splendid Suns, Henrik Isben s A Doll s House, and Kamala Markandaya s Nectar in a Sieve, women face obstacles that disempower and silence them due to Men s treatment of women, the societal view of women, and the objectification of women. Within the literary works analyzed this semester, disempowerment is a persisting theme that roots from the various obstacles and hardships women encounter. The woman s ability to overcome this disempowerment is particularly challenging due to being oppressed by their peers, specifically men. Women countlessly serve as victims of verbal and physical abuseunder their husbands, thus contributing to the idea of female inferiority. There are various stereotypical roles challenged between men and women in society leading to discrimination of women. The preconceived notions of women s roles in society arise from those within society. During this time era, most of society depicts women as uneducated, essentially lacking economical and social opportunities, making the female population highly vulnerable to all types of exploitation. Nonetheless, men in these literary works display objectifying and degrading attitudes towards those of the female gender. The objectification of women notably dehumanizes the female population. • 14. Foils And Foils In Roman Fever By Edith Wharton Opposites don t always attract. In Edith Wharton s Roman Fever , the two main characters seem to be almost complete opposites of each other. In fact, it can be argued that they are actually foils of each other. Foils in literature are described as a foil is a character that shows qualities that are in contrast with the qualities of another character with the objective to highlight the traits of the other character (LiteraryDevices Editors). Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade seem to at first be foils of each other, but only on the last page and in the finale act of the story do we see that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade may not be so different after all. Armine Kotin Mortimer in their essay makes this claim, We see each in turn through the somewhat tainted view of the other (Mortimer 189). I agree with this. The two women definitely don t see each other as similar in any way. Mortimer says that the women both see each other as if they themselves as better (Mortimer 189). They are different from each other, but both think lowly other the other. The smaller and paler one shook her head (Wharton 116). The other lady, who was fuller and higher in color... (Wharton 116). These two sentences show us that Mrs. Ansley and Mrs. Slade are very different from each other. Mrs. Grace Ansley is a quiet, reserved, pale, small woman(Wharton 116). By using the fear of what happens when people go against Big Brother and the government, they can make people believe two plus two equals five (80). By forcing everyone to live knowing that everything they did was being watched, Big Brother was able to restrict the actions and conversations of the people. People tend to act differently if they knew they were alone compared to if they knew they were being watched. This is because when you are being watched, you feel the need to act more appropriate and not do anything that could be considered weird. The reason the people of Oceania were to be controlled to the point of seeming like sheep, was because of the fear that was instilled through the Thought Police. It s understood that others opinions about the dangers of child soldiers being free are only because they don t want to risk anything but, isn t life all about taking risks? You risk your life leaving the house, and breathing. Also, countries should not prosecute childsoldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime. There also should not be an international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Here are three reasons why they should not be prosecuted or held responsible. Also that there should not be an age limit. One. Children are afraid, young, and clueless. Two. Children are 99.99% of the time drugged, forced, and brainwashed. Children are often brainwashed and drugged before they are forced to fight. Their vulnerability can allow warlords to make them into cold blooded killers (O Neill 1 ). Three. Children are independent, lonesome, and they want/need a family. One that gives them love. Their parents might start them off with one sport and then before you know it the child is juggling a handful of sports to see, which ones they like. As these young athletes get older, they tendto get stuck at a crossroad. The athletes are posed with the same decision: to specialize in one sportor to continue playing all the sports they love. However, do athletes that specialize in one sport perform better as they grow up compared to those that continue playing multiple sports? It is important to resolve this question because there has been a rise in early youth sport specialization over the last few years due to pressure put on athletes by their coaches and parents, rather than a logical rationale (Myer 2015). Often, as young athletes reach middle school and high school levels, coaches and parents tend to see the potential these athletes have. As a result, the athletes are persuaded and or forced into quitting certain sports to specialize in their dominant sport with hopes of achieving more success. However, these children miss out in experiences they might have had if they didn t quit those sports. If they choose not to quit, they are usually treated differently by their coaches. In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. This is an example of long term memory as almost every child is asked to commit this fact to memory. So, what does all this have to do with amnesia? Well, I m glad you asked. Information flows in through the middle of our brain and branches out like a tree. Before that information goes to different areas, it goes through a channeling/filter system. In this regard, the brain is like a mailroom this information goes into this box, and that letter goes into that box. (4). In order for short term memory to become long term memory, it must go through a process know as consolidation. During consolidation, short term memory is repeatedly activated so much that certain chemical and physical changes occur in the brain, permanently embedding the memory for long term access. It is believed that consolidation takes place in the hippocampi, located in the temporal lobe regions of the brain. Medical research indicates that it is the frontal and temporal lobes that most often damaged during head injury. (3). First of all the organization of the data along with the time measurement are improvements that can be made. Instead of measuring five minutes I would measure every 15 minutes, making it four rounds in one hour. Within that hour we can also use a timer so that we don t lose track of time. Also the time that we had to measure was on a Monday and Wednesday, for the next observationI would add in a Tuesday or Thursday. Since the observation was done on a campus we didn t get different age ranges besides the college age. By the time that we get our food we only have a couple of minutes before our next class. There is so much activity to measure in that hour and in that place. The theme from this observation was gender, age and race majority that ordered at Chic Fil A. The majority of the students who ordered here make up the 72% population who are white at CMU, therefore it was not a surprise that they were the majority of the clients (College Factual, 2013). But there are about 8% more females on campus, but males ordered more than females (College Factual, 2013). To find out why they chose to eat at Chic Fil A would be a different research project. I am researching the gender, age, and race of the people at the university center that order Chic Fil A. I decided to research this because I have noticed the crazy long line during lunch ever since they opened the restaurant in the beginning of the year. I thought it would be interesting to learn which students at the school are the top buyers. Eating patterns are something that I was able to see during this observation. For many Americans, the dropping of the bomb meant nothing but to do what had to be done. The end results were not taken into account because there was no way to know what could happen when using new technology, (Okazaki). The results of the atomic bomb alone had a casualty rate of about 135,000 people, of that 66,000 died and 69,000 were injured, (The Atomic Bombings). Prior to the atomic bomb, Japan had already lost their a majority of their defense, only had their navy left and was nearly destroyed. From data, we were able to find out an equivalent to that bomb had more power than two thousands tons of TNT, (Hersey 49). The excessive amount of power did not help to solve anything, it only created a race for nuclear power, (The Cold War). The dropping of the Atomic bomb was an inhumane use of power and all countries should destroy the use of atomic power because it does not single out the enemies from Japan, but it also affects Japan s civilians in that area innocent or not. As a result, the Ceremony of Loss occurred, which is murmuring the name throughout the whole day, less often, quieter, so that the child is forgotten. To add on, this incident shows that the community tried to eliminate any dangerous situations because perhaps the death of the first Caleb could cause problems by frightening the rest of the community and in an attempt to to prevent this, they make sure the child who died, in this case, is forgotten. This form of food relief dates back to the Great Depression when many Americans lost their jobs and did not have money to feed their families. People were starving while farmers produced abundant crop that could not be sold due to a lack of consumers with buying power (Dorsch, 2013). • 36. Human Emotion And Its Effect On Human Consciousness The purpose of life, to some degree, is to seek happiness and to seek out other people to achieve that happiness. Sigmund Freud developed this idea, which is known as the pleasure principle, claiming to explain that the human consciousness and subconsciousness revolve around this idea. If someone is isolated, then they will try to alleviate that suffering in one way or another. Human emotionis reduced to extremely simple terms, unlike what they truly are, which is extremely complex. The idea of reducing humans to such a simple understanding seems unfair, but it carries a sense of truth to it. Every person on Earth is seeking for pleasure, and it carries truth because no person appreciates the feelingof unpleasantness. Isolation is a defense method against the world to seek pleasure and to avoid unpleasant feelings in life. Freud believes that everyone attempts to get away from things that cause us pain and suffering and that everyone feels suffering as a result of society, but the way people attempt to alleviate this suffering defines us as a person. Two people could be faced with the death of a close relative, but the one who alleviates his suffering through drugs is very different from the one who alleviates his suffering through burying himself in his work. The exploration of Freud s ideas through different characters of the two stories, Sonny s Blues and Ceremony, reveal that Freud s principles regarding human nature are not the basis for all human life. Advertising And Experience Design Strategies Advertising and Experience Design Strategies Ahmed Salman Argosy University October, 8, 2014 Advertising and Experience Design Strategies In the business world today, marketers have various options on how to promote and sell their products and services. On top of the traditional methods of advertising such as print adverts and direct marketing, today there is web based advertising, email advertising as well as many social media sites such as Twitter, You tube, Linked In and Facebook. Businesses have now learn that traditional methods of advertising are not as effective as they used to be. Marketers must realize that promotion and communication have changed due to the Internet and technological advancement (Molan, 2011, pp.34). Therefore, due to the existence of a range of advertising channels, marketing executives must effectively manage the integrated marketing communications (IMC) to achieve desired results (Laric Lynagh, 2010, pp.109). For a morally weak person does not abide by the dictates of reason, because he feels more joy than he should in bodily things, but the man under discussion feels less joy than he should. (NE22)[2] Aristotle does not give a name to this type of person, so we shall call him the moral martyr. Moral martyrs abandon worldly pleasures such as friendship, food, and entertainment for the apparent benefits of self restraint. Therefore, they are deficient in their enjoyment of worldly pleasures and excessive in their use of self restraint. Saint Augustine has clearly taken the path of moral martyrdom. He writes, The eye is attracted to beautiful objects, by gold and silver and all such things. There is great pleasure, too, in feeling something agreeable to the touch, and material things have various qualities to please each of the other senses . . . . • 41. Justice And Justice In Hamlet The definition of justice can mean many distinctive things. However it can make people forgive, or get revenge. I think it just depends on the situation. In my Final Essay, I m going to answer this question for you, Can justice and forgiveness go hand in hand? There are numerous amounts of examples I will show you, and one of them even includes a film called Simon Birch. Justiceis what you fight and earn properly. Revenge is naГЇve, and can be hurtful, if somebody hurts you, handle it maturely and respectfully. The well known play by Shakespeare, Hamlet; is one example of justice and forgiveness. Hamlets uncle, Claudius kills his own brother, Hamlet Sr. He puts poison in his ear while he was dozing. Hamlet finds out and doesn t tell anyone, everyone think he has gone mad, even his own mother, Gertrude. Claudius marries Gertrude and becomes king. Hamlet continues to make a play about how Claudius killed Hamlet Sr. and Claudius feels uncomfortable and leaves. During the whole play, Hamlet tries to get revenge on Claudius in whatever possible way he can. However, Claudius convinces everybody that Hamlet is lying about what he has been saying about him. At the end of the play, Hamlet and Claudius duel to the death. Claudius gets wounded and Hamlet feels like he has won and that he finally got revenge and justice for his father. So, in that story justice and forgiveness can go hand in hand, it s all about how you handle the situation. My second example is from a movie called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This would eventually reduce their order backlog, making their production more in line with estimates. 2.) What are likely to be the main categories of costs and benefits in establishing the cell? Are there any non financial benefits which should be taken into account? B B may face some initial outlay costs in creating specific staircase stations. Additionally, there may be costs associated with training, as they ensure that their joiners can function as experts in their respective areas. This might even require a short period of inactivity or even a halt in production as they seek to get workers up to speed. However, the benefits seem to outweigh these initial costs. Orders would have a better chance of being completed on time and the elimination of waste would allow for more competitive quotes. Taking a Look at the Manhattan Project Although the Manhattan project was a bomb it was the psychological effects of the two bomb droppings that did more damage than the actual destruction caused. The projected was started through United States concern that the Germans were developing a similar weapon. It was kept a well guarded secret and when it was used for the first time on a city caused a horrible shock. The decision to use the bomb was not made lightly and had many different reasons behind it. It was made especially hard after seeing the actual destruction it could cause because unveiling the technology would lead to others wanting to replicate it. In the end though it was used on Japan and though it caused less damage than previous air raids it lead to their surrender. While nuclear fission was believed to be possible in Germany since 1938 it was not put into actionin the United States until 1943. That year Allied scientists created a plan to use the fission to build an atomic bomb before the Germans could. In early 1939 word spread like wildfire that Germany had learned hot to split an atom. The fears this struck in the scientific community encouraged scientist, like Albert Einstein, who fled Nazi persecution, and Enrico Fermi, who escaped Fascist Italy, to approach the President. Today, their estimated numbers range from 450,000 to 700,000 for African elephants and 35,000 to 40,000 for Asian elephants. Like most animals, elephants also play significant role in the ecosystem.
