Federal Black Lung Act Case Study
Federal Black Lung Act of 1973 It s a U.S. law which provides monthly payments and medical
benefits to coal miners disabled from pneumoconiosis (black lung disease) rising from employment in
or around the nation s coal mines. The law also provides monthly benefits to a miner s dependent
survivors if pneumoconiosis caused or hastened the miner s death. After 24 years as a coal miner,
Miller was diagnosed with pneumoconiosis, or also called as black lung disease. Miller was looking
for assistance from the national mine workers union in obtaining workers compensation from his
employer. But UMWA president W. A. Boyle refused to help him. When Miller led other miners, their

INNOVATION
The Innovator s DNA
How do I find INNOVATIVE PEOPLE for my organization? And how can
I become more innovative myself?
These are questions that stump senior executives, who understand that the ability to innovate is the
secret sauce of business success. Unfortunately, most of us know very little about what makes one
person more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Associating is like the backbone structure of DNA s double helix; four patterns of action (questioning,
observing, experimenting, and networking) wind around this backbone, helping to cultivate new
insights. And just as each person s physical DNA is unique, each individual we studied had a unique
innovator s DNA for generating breakthrough business ideas.
Imagine that you have an identical twin, endowed with the same brains and natural talents that you
have. You re both given one week to come up with a creative new business venture idea. During that
week, you come up with ideas alone in your room. In contrast, your twin (1) talks with 10 people
including an engineer, a musician, a stayat home dad, and a designer about the venture,
(2) visits three innovative start ups to observe what they do, (3) samples five new to the market
products, (4) shows a prototype he s built to five people, and (5) asks the questions What if I tried
this? and
Why do you do that? at least 10 times each day during these networking, observing, and
experimenting activities. Who do you bet will come up with the more innovative (and doable) idea?

Studies of identical twins separated at birth indicate that our ability to think creatively comes one
third from genetics; but two thirds of the innovation skill set comes through learning first
understanding a given skill, then practicing it, experimenting, and ultimately gaining confidence in

Cloisonne Tripod Censer
The 19th century luxurious Cloisonné tripod censer has no known artist and is labeled to be from 1644
to 1911. It is made of enamel on copper alloy with a dimension of 28cm in height. In a display with
five objects, it was the most lavished in both form and colors. The ornamented pot can be associated
with higher society or respected people because the material of copper and enamel are, unlike clay or
bronzes, produced for specific groups of people with no mass production. Initially, the dominant light
blue color didn t look like a typical Chinese censer that I ve seen before. However, like other censers
we see in Chinese cultures today, this tripod censer would be seen as the centerpiece of an altar
surrounded by vases and candlesticks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colors used in the enamel are light blue as its main background that symbolizes the sky, dark blue,
yellow, dark green, light green, red and white. Every shape has a thin golden outline, which explains
the unique and non industrialized manufacturing process. The fluid patterns seem to be filling up the
space in a non systematic nor a symmetrical way to reflect the natural behaviors of the plants. There
are no composition or main point of focus. Thus, the patterns are there to create the surface rather than
to illustrate a story. The empty areas such as the legs of the tripod are filled with curved vine patterns.
The curling vines overlap each other, creating a sense of dimension and space on a flat surface. The
leaf texture and lines make the vines recognizable. Moreover, the absence of the leaf on the middle
section of the lid shows that the curls on the lid are clouds intertwining with smaller dragons that are
hidden. This style reminisces the art of Zhou where interlacing animals formed intricate patterns.
Coincidentally, this is where the smoke or the cloud of the incense will flow through. This censer
portrays the commonly displayed theme of journey to heaven, as it is embodied by the elements of the
plants on Earth and the clouds from heaven. The use of Leiwen patterns in the vines and clouds
throughout the object helps unify the different

The Importance Of Water Management
As indicated in table 4.22 above, the capital budget source of the authority for the last four years were
Addis Ababa Region, Grant and its own source. The city government allocated birr 37, mill,42.2 mill
40.9 mill. For the year 2006, 2007, and 2008 respectively. for these consecutive years the city
government allocated below 50 million birr. This assured that the budget allocation did not consider
the urgency and degree of the water supply problem of the city. It also seems that until the last few
years water supply infrastructure and service problem was not really taken as a serious issue that has

According to AAWSA and Health Bureau officials, although there is still sufficient for private sector

This is due to lack of creating awareness and decentralization.
4.21.5 Population Growth
One of the major factors that contribute to inadequacy of water supply infrastructure and service is
population growth. Rapid population growth generates huge new demands for infrastructure services.
A well planned system of infrastructure facilities is one of primary perquisites to achieve sustainable

To let the liver function properly it is important to detect cirrhosis in early stage. Now a days several
noninvasive imaging techniques have been developed recently for detection of liver cirrhosis such as
CT, USG, MRI. In this paper we have used CT scan images of liver cirrhosis and applied some
statistical operations on those CT images such as mean, median, standard deviation and mode.
II. Methodology: CT scans are challenging because of the different image characteristics that must be
considered. Here we will be considering the statistical features of a CT scan of liver which is having
liver cirrhosis as a disease. The methodology followed is given below:
Fig.1 Flow Chart of Methodology Used
(1).Image Acquisition : To get an image of which you want to extract some features.
(2).Image Preprocessing : It is common practice to perform preprocessing on acquired CT scan images
before extracting the features of images. Here we have applied the statistical operation on the
preprocessed images After acquiring the image various preprocessing methods can be apply. The aim
of this step is to improve the quality of the image that suppress unwanted distortion and enhance the
image features which is important for further processing. Such as increase or decrease brightness,
shape, contrast, remove the noise from the image.

Definitions of Self In Community in Sula and Song of Solomon
In that place, where they tore the nightshade and blackberry patches from their roots to make room for
the Medallion City Golf Course, there once was a neighborhood (Sula 1). Toni Morrison begins the
novel Sula with these powerful words, describing more than a physical place, but a spiritual place
where a community once stood. She begins with the destruction of the community, ultimately
beginning at the end because her novel traces the history of this community. In Song of Solomon.
Morrison takes the opposite path. She traces the history of self that ultimately ends in a type of
destruction when Milkman leaps off the cliff. In both novels, however, she explores the ... Show more

Chartered on Oct. 16, 1903, by the State of Texas, the hospital began in a 14 room renovated house. In
1900, there were 3 contributors who founded Baylor and one of them was who are Charles M. Rosser,
M.D., founder of the Baylor College of Medicine, who saw the need for a hospital of great importance

best strategies to remedy workplace violence and incivility.

You learn a lot more from your losses than your wins. You can dwell on what you ve lost, and how.
But then you need to let it go, because you can t change the result. All you can do is be better next
time, get back out there and try again. These are the words of the famous Australian surfer, Stephanie

Stephanie Gilmore, born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, has been given the title of most
medalled female surfer in the world. At the age of 27 she has had twenty one elite World Tour
victories and five World Championships, making her perhaps one of the greatest female surfers in the
world. However, with every win putting a celebrity in the spotlight, of course there must be some

Along with all her achievements came great controversies, the worst accusing her of making the
surfing industry sexual . This was when she was seen posing nude in the popular sports magazine

embrace their femininity and sexuality, it s not taking away from their power and athleticism at all;
they re combining the two sides, and that s a very powerful combination for a girl to have . This
statement also makes her an ideal feminist icon.

How Did The Media Affect The Anti War Movement
The Vietnam conflict was the first war involving the United States to have a heavy media presence,
taking pictures and writing down everything. This media presence allowed for the anti war movement
to have ammunition to fight their own battle, the battle against the war. Without the media s enormous
involvement the Vietnam Conflict may have been much different. The views of the average person
were definitely affected by the images the media presented to them for the first time. The soldiers
could have had a much different homecoming as well as the overall view of the war. The anti war

Movements for change happen when the citizens of a nation join together to fight for what they want
and believe in. Many did not want to be involved in a war where there was not a clear reasoning for
going to war. The antiwar movement actually consisted of a number of independent interests, often
only vaguely allied and contesting each other on many issues, united only in opposition to the Vietnam
War. The movement was able to pick up steam and attract new people from all over the country when
the bombings of Cambodia and North Vietnam intensified. With the images and depictions of the war
pouring in and more soldier dying the movement was able to gain traction. The first American protests
against the United States intervention in Vietnam took place in 1963, the antiwar movement did not
begin in earnest until nearly two years later, when President Lyndon B. Johnson ordered massive U.S.
military intervention and the sustained bombing of North Vietnam. These protests came in a time
when movements for change were happening all over the country from the women s rights movement
to the civil rights movement. The tactics by the anti war protester were diverse: legal demonstrations,

Keynesian Economics Essay
The U.S. never fully recovered from the Great Depression until the government employed the use of
Keynes Economics. John Maynard Keynes was a British economist whose ideas and theories have
greatly influenced the practice of modern economics as well as the economic policies of governments
worldwide. He believed that in times when the economy slowed down or encountered declines, people
would not spend as much money and therefore the economy would steadily decline until a depression
occurred. He proposed that if the government injected money into the economy, it would help
stimulate consumers to purchase more and firms would produce more as a result, in a continuous
cycle. This cycle is called the multiplier effect. Keynes ideas have ... Show more content on

The aggregate expenditures line is the summation of consumption expenditures, investment
expenditures, government purchases, and net exports. The 45 degree line represents all combinations
in which aggregate expenditures equal aggregate output. Keynesian equilibrium is also represented by
the saving investment, or injection leakage, model as the intersection between the injection line
(investment expenditures, government purchases, and exports) and the leakage line (saving, taxes, and
imports). (2) Keynes established the theory of the multiplier effect. Keynesians believe that, because
prices are somewhat predictable, variations in spending, such as consumption, investment, or
government expenditures, cause output to fluctuate. For example, if government spending increases
and all other components remain constant, then output will increase. The multiplier effect is defined as
output increases by a multiple of the original change in spending that caused it. (3) This means, that if
the government were to increase their spending by ten billion dollars, it could cause the total output to
rise by fifteen billion dollars (a multiplier of 1.5) or by five billion (a multiplier of 0.5). Thus the
money that gets injected into the economy creates a multiplier effect and promotes more circulation of
money by creating

Bound Feet And Western Dress Character Analysis
Bound Feet Western Dress is a book written by Pang Mei Natasha Chang that begins in her family
home in Connecticut as she shuffles through a carved mahogany trunk from China that held the
secrets of China. Inside are her grandmother s embroidered silk lounging robes, grandfathers tuxedo,
white dinner jackets and jodhpurs, aprons of her amah, Xu Ma, and cheongsams that she had learned
to fold from her father. Finally, she finds the black cheongsam like dress that once belonged to her
great aunt Yu I and goes to tell the story of her life in traditional China as it was merging with Western
tradition and becoming modern. Throughout the book, Yu I tells of many old Chinese traditions. In
China, women were only meant to please men. If a family had a daughter, they were considered guests
and were later carted off for marriage by fourteen. Uneducated women were considered more
obedient, so parents often did not let their daughters learn anything other than their duty to their state,
family, and husband. By the age of four, boys were no longer allowed to play and began to learn. They
were given special tutoring and were required to learn and memorize the books they were taught
because their father or their tutor would make them recite what they had read. The Chang s last names
were a poem that changed every generation and when the poem ended, it would restart with the next
generation. Their poem was chia kuo pang ming which translates to fine kingdom, bright country

Cultural And Ethical Issues Of Homosexuality
The world today faces many cultural and ethical issues that some believe are only relevant in today s
day and age. The Bible bluntly states that homosexuality is a sin. However, would it still be
considered homosexuality if there were a gender change surgery before going through with the
immoral act? There are many scripture verses in the Old Testament that evidence the demoralization
of a sex change both then and there and here and now. The bible goes into depth explaining that God
painstakingly made man and woman deliberately as they are. So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis) Gender identity
confusion is not a sexual problem but an emotional one. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) A person s gender is predestined
along with all other facets of their life. (Henry) God would not create a person with the genitalia of a
female and the heart and consciousness of a male. (Bohlin) For God is not a God of confusion but of
peace. As in all the churches of the saints, (1 Corinthians 14:33) Gender identity comprehension
occurs early on in childhood development. It begins at birth and messages of assertion and
authentication of one s personhood can be distorted from many factors such as parents and family,
society and even media. If a child is not ensured of his/her sexual distinctiveness from the beginning

Anne Boleyn s The First Wife Of Henry Viii Essay
Anne Boleyn is a figure that continues to fascinate us centuries after she met her end on the scaffold.
The story goes that King Henry struggles with his conscience when it becomes clear that his wife
Catherine will not give him a male heir. He meets Anne and falls in love, and as a consequence breaks
with Rome and the Holy Roman Catholic Church to marry her. When she too fails to produce the
elusive son he desires he has her executed. The second wife of Henry VIII, Anne s is a biography that
many know, and yet this juxtaposes with the reality that her story is often oversimplified by the
salacious details of her life. In the context of the early English reformation, Anne was a player to the
colossal events of this period and for this, her role in them deserves to be more closely examined.
Anne is a fundamental part of the reformation to the extent that she allowed the door on it to be
cracked open through key events such as the divorce from Catherine of Aragon, the King s Great
Matter , the Break with Rome, and the Royal Supremacy to take place. The idea of divorcing his first
wife was not a relatively new one for King Henry. He had been married to Catherine of Aragon for
almost two decades by the late 1520s. For years Henry had had a growing concern as Catherine, six
years his senior, passed her childbearing years behind. It became increasingly likely she would not be
able to bear a son. During their marriage, they had suffered misfortune, from multiple

My Life Flight Nurse Is Not A Smoke Jumper
As we grow up, we change our careers at least once, maybe twice or even three times before we
realize what we want to be. When I was little, I was fascinated with being a speech and language
pathologist but then I grew a little taller and discovered smoke jumping. And up until my senior year
in high school I wanted to be a smoke jumper. But by the end of my senior year, I finally found my
career; a life flight nurse. Having a strict schedule, great job security, being people oriented, and
having an independent job are the things I look for most when I m looking at career options. I want a
schedule where I can easily have an idea of what hours I will be working before the schedule is
printed. I am also looking for great job security in the fact that if I am going to be going to school, I
want to be able to do it once and be very good at it. I don t want to have to switch through jobs
because my current career isn t holding out based on the world. I like helping people and I want to be
able to save the ones I can. I am a very independent person and I would like to do a job where I have
my own independent time where I can take control and learn from my own mistakes, but because I am
also people oriented, I also would like to have a select few co works that I can touch base with to
make sure I am on the right track with my thinking.
Life flight nurses need to be able to evaluate patients needs as well as be able to provide them with
proper medical care and treatment until

Analysis Of The Book Elf
Introduction The social sciences, the study of human in society and the relationships between humans,
connect with how humans interact with each other. Especially how they treat each other after
problematic issues, like when their goodness is at stake impacts human behavior. Thus, leading to the
expression throwing someone under the bus and causing distress to both parties of this situation. The
first example is a classic Christmas film, Elf. The second example is an episode from a popular TV
show, Gossip Girl, based on a novel series by Cecily von Ziegesar. During these difficult
circumstances of throwing someone under the bus, someone will always be hurt in the process,

Example and Analysis
1. Elf
In the Christmas film, Elf, Buddy the elf is suffers from being throw under the bus by his biological
father, Walter. Throughout the film, Walter s goodness was damaged by his son because he was an elf.
Buddy has lived his entire life in the North Pole as a human sized elf, technically a human who thinks
he is an elf. The first time Walter and Buddy met was in his office when Buddy wandered around the
city to find his father. The first jab that Walter initiated towards Buddy was, Who sent this Christmas
gram? when Buddy stated, It s me your son, Susan Wells had me, and...and she didn t tell you, and and
and but now I m here. It s me, Buddy (Favreau, 2003). After Buddy told him he was his son, he
questioned Buddy as if he was just as irrelevant as a Christmas gram by the condescending tone of his
voice. During this scene, Buddy has been thrown under the bus because he was being serious and
genuine in telling his biological father that he was his son and his father completely disregards him
and calls him out for being a foolish Christmas gram. The reference of comparing to Buddy to the
Christmas gram was taken in a negative way because Walter was stating how Buddy was a joke. This
situation damages Walter s goodness of normalcy and having an ordinary life with a typical family
because Buddy enters his life as his son with the unusual fact that he is an elf in different attire and

She Walks In Beauty Apostrophe To The Ocean And Don Byron...
Passionate is Key (An Analysis of Lord Byron s Three Poems) Lord Byron, a romantic author from
the 18th century was a man who was considered as a player , a man who was always with multiple
women. In his lifetime Byron wrote many stories, three of those stories were, She Walks In Beauty,
Apostrophe To The Ocean, and Don Juan. In those three stories Lord Byron indicates very important
messages for each. The story She Walks in Beauty is a story that describes the perfect girl to Lord
Byron. Byron is very passionate about woman and describes in his eyes what the perfect woman
would look like. It tells us what is important to guys, the appearance of a woman, what they notice
first. In the story Byron states She walks in beauty, like the night of cloudless climes and starry skies
(line1 2). That line is stating that when a woman walks in, the man first notices how she walks, and
that she looks mysterious. The way a woman carries herself is very important. It s good to be
confident, a woman who is confident in herself shows it in the way she walks and carries herself.
Byron makes it a point at the end of the story that his girl has to be innocent. He states A mind at
peace with all below, a heart whose love is innocent (line 17 18). In other words byron is like a tiger,
he is experienced. He likes girls who are like lambs, innocent, young, and simple. Just like the girl he
describes in She Walks In Beauty. Not only is Byron passionate about woman he is also passionate

Smith Software Testing Environment Proposal
Smith Software Testing Environment Proposal BSA/385 Introduction to Software Engineering
Abstract Smith Systems Consulting has received some feedback and concerns that their processes and
procedures are not sufficiently documented. This lack of professional documentation has caused some
loss of potential contracts for the firm. The Learning Team Bravo has been given the assignment to
define, develop, and propose standards for a software testing environment at Smith. This will be
accomplished by defining the Smith engagement approach, introducing the way the firm works with
clients and how projects are managed, defining the software development and quality assurance
processes and procedures, describing in detail testing procedures to be exercised, describing the
infrastructure including hardware and software capabilities that will make up the software testing
environment, and by defining the format and requirements for development of formal program
specification. Smith Systems Consulting recently tasked Learning Team Bravo (LTB) with developing
a standardized project plan, approach, and testing procedures. It is Smith s goal to show prospective
clients that Smith is efficient and is confident that they are able to perform contractual obligations
smoothly. The following procedures will be generalized so that Smith will be able to utilize this
project plan in any project. This standardized project plan that LTB developed will enable Smith to

how far the offensive team has to go to reach a first down. This is helpful in that it allows first time

The Uncanny, A Freudian Term, By Sigmund Freud
The uncanny , a Freudian term, is used to describe a situation or feeling that feels familiar and foreign
at the same time. Through the writings and ideas of Ernst Jentech, and Sigmund Freud, it is defined.
Between them the uncanny is described as ...intellectual uncertainty; so that the uncanny would
always, as it were, be something one does not know one s way about in. The better oriented in his
environment a person is, the less readily will he get the impression of something uncanny in regard to
the objects and events in it. In Freud s essay he states that the uncanny is that class of the terrifying

Teaching Strategies For Learning Style Preferences
It is in this article that Beck matches three teaching strategies to learning style preferences. During
which he attempts to link the 4MAT system, Dunn s LSI, and the Renzulli Smith s LSI to teaching
strategies associated to display individual learning preferences linked to the brain s hemispheres. The
4MAT system and Dunn s LSI is teacher driven teaching strategies while the Renzulli Smith s LSI
allows student input into their teaching strategies. In linking the 4MAT system to teaching strategies,
Beck further explores why certain teaching strategies are more successful and hemispheric appropriate
when adapted to their individual natural tendencies. Student learning tendencies are associated with
left mode, right mode, or multi mode tendencies. Dunn s LSI includes a wide range of motivations
that teachers should consider when determining individual learning styles that may include
psychological and cognitive variables. However, Renzulli Smith s LSI permits student to provide their
input to list their favorite to least favorite activities. All three LSI have significance, but it is ultimately
the teacher s role to provide opportunities for each student to unharness their potential.
The focus of this article was to perform research on the Preferred Teaching Approach Inventory
(PTAI) including psychometric properties. This was performed to determine students preferred
teaching styles impacted their personal learning styles. The research suggested that

Mexico Business Cycle
Mexico s Business Cycle
The term business cycle or economic cycle refers to the fluctuations of economic activity around its
long term growth trend. It involves shifts over time between periods of relatively rapid growth of
output recovery and prosperity, and periods of relative stagnation or decline contraction or recession.
These fluctuations are often measured using real gdp.
Despite being termed cycles, these fluctuations in economic growth and decline do not follow a purely
mechanical or predictable periodic pattern. In recent years economic theory has moved towards the
study of economic fluctuation rather than a business cycle . Some economists believe calling the

Cognitive Dissonance In Friends
Cognitive dissonance means feeling tension when our thoughts and beliefs are inconsistent. An
example of this is when people smoke even though they are aware of the consequences that can occur
such as cancer which leads to cognitive dissonance. This occurs almost everyday in our lives, whether
we are aware of it or not. An one example that was shown on one of the episodes of Friends made us
aware of this happening. Friends is a sitcom which aired on television in 1994 and ended in 2004. It is
about six best friends, Chandler, Joey, and Ross, Monica, who is Ross s brother, Phoebe and Rachel
who are living in New York City. Though out the show we see that Monica falls in love with Chandler,

It would be preposterous to say that the Mongolian Empire was irrelevant in history. The Mongols, led

power had created more chaos than harmony. The Mongolians of the Asian Steppe had a negative
impact on the world during their rule of the Asian continent from 1260 to 1368 by slaughtering
millions of lives, destroying complete cultures in their way for land and spreading a deadly disease to

The Development of the Mortuary Complex by Anthropologist...
Can we use burial sites and rituals to determine things about our ancestors like social status, rank,
gender, and even go so far as to state facts about their dietary patterns? If we are able to identify these
things by the analysis of burial practices, do we still practice these certain behaviors in the present and
will they grow in elaboration as time progresses? I believe the practice of burial and rituals associated
with them will grow in scale as time passes on. There are questions of all types and we all rely on the
well known study referred to as mortuary analysis which is not all about the bones but how the bones
are buried. Mortuary Analysis is the study of burial practices by anthropologist who analyze the burial
rituals and are able to determine the answers to the questions some of us might have sooner or later.
Through this study major conclusions have been made about our past from a hundred years ago to
even thousands of years ago. The evidence provided in this paper lead me to my conclusion on future
burial rituals . They are also able in some cases able to find the cause of death by referencing to
writings from that period and comparing them to their findings. As time progresses, so do the
techniques related to this thorough study and each anthropologist is not only known for what they do

Analysis Of Anton Chekhov s The Lottery Ticket
I Stand Here Ironing vs. The Lottery Ticket In Anton Chekhov s The Lottery Ticket , we are presented
with a couple who, half believing they have won the lottery, give themselves over to daydreaming
what the future may hold with their winnings. The point of view is that of the husband though it is
clear, throughout, that his thoughts find their echo in his wife s. At first his thoughts are pleasant but
then, as he takes into account the differences, (some of them supposed), between himself and his wife,
knowing the winnings would be his wife s and not his own, he sees trouble ahead, and becomes
resentful of her. Only then does he check the final number to find that they have not won after all, at
which point the reality of their relatively impoverished situation takes hold and life, once again,
appears gloomy and mundane. In Tillie Olsen s I Stand Here Ironing , a mother meditates upon the
history of her now troubled teenage daughter, a daughter she feels she can do little to help. Her
daughter s temperament clearly arises from a troubled childhood. Abandoned by her father, with
competition from other siblings, raised in an impoverished environment, there is little wonder as we
read Olsen s description that the daughter should have turned into a troubled young woman. Her
mother in her meditations, however, has clearly felt hopeless throughout. She feels she can do nothing
for her daughter now as she has been able to do little for her in the past. She ends her

referred in the exhibit 7 in this case which cost approximately 1,003,000 to 2,235,175 dollars plus real

patterns in recent history. San Diego and Tijuana were once seamless. Once the Northern area of San
Diego was colonized and defined, the identities of both sides of the American border changed over
time. The San Diego gained and American identity and, during the Great Depression, deported
Mexican immigrants to Mexico, some of whom were American citizens. Later on, when San Diego
once again began to flourish, employment opportunities lured illegal immigrant back to the area, while
the federal government turned a blind eye. The urbanization of San Diego heavily relied upon Tijuana
immigrants to grow when there weren t enough people to fill low ... Show more content on

They are similar because they both have historic roots that differ from the norm, being established
inland. Neither city has a sea port. However, both cities have thrived utilizing the exportation of
goods. They were also laid out according to Spanish architectural expectations during their
colonization and have multiple centers. Both cities have issues with unchecked population growth,
overcrowding and pollution from the massive amount of polluting automotive traffic and
manufacturing industries. The cities are both primate cities within their countries, being the political,
social and economic centers of each. On the outskirts of both cities people are found living in poverty,
lacking available jobs, education, housing and sometimes basic sanitation services. The distribution of
wealth in both cities is large, with the high class populations living centrally with access to services
expected of tourists (sanitation, public transportation, etc.). Since Mexico City has a rich Aztec history
and San José has its beautiful natural attractions, both cities benefit from the tourism their history and
natural aspects attract from around the world. Do you think their central location has exasperated their
inability to expand sufficiently due to population growth? I m not sure how they can join the world in
being green when their population growth puts a strain on government who could open up reserved
lands, which

For more detail regarding analytical techniques, which provide valuable information necessary for
effective schedule definition, see PMBOK, fourth edition, Section 6.5.2. Most scheduling tools
include features that allow utilization of these techniques with minimal effort. Critical Path Method
The critical path method calculates the longest path of planned activities to the end of the project the
critical path and the earliest and latest date that each activity can start and finish without extending the
project. Any activity delay on the critical path impacts the planned project completion date. A network
diagram visually conveys the critical path. This visibility into the critical path allows project managers
to prioritize activities and take appropriate corrective actions to meet schedule deadlines. An
understanding of the critical path also allows project managers visibility as to which schedule
activities are flexible that is, those activities that are not on the critical path. By looking at a network
diagram, project managers can determine when they have float or slack, which is the amount of time
that any given schedule activity can be delayed without causing a delay to the start date of subsequent

Argumentative Essay On Black Tom Island
2:00 a.m., darkness still blanketed Black Tom Island in New York Harbor, a major munitions depot.
Although the U.S. was neutral during World War I it was no secret that they were selling ammunition
to England, France, and Russia. Hence it is no shock that Germany would consider Black Tom Island
a force to be reckoned with. Ultimately, the blame comes back to the U.S., for our naivete and
ignorance was the door left wide open, you only need connect some of the dots before the big picture
is clear. It wasn t long before explosions lit up the sky, with the force of 5.5 magnitude earthquake,
they could be felt as far as Philadelphia. Not far from the Statue of Liberty fires began to burn, some
guards called for the Fire Department while others fled, and for good reason seeing as there were
millions of pounds of explosives stored here that needed only a spark to go off. The blasts, as they
were built to do, wreaked havoc at the site. An estimated $500 million today in property damage. 6
piers were demolished while 13 piers were leveled, fires continued to consume all that remained. Peter
Raceta, a captain, was in a cabin watching the fire with two other men. When the explosion came, it
seemed as if it was from above zumpf! like a Zeppelin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reminds us of a site that saw one of the worst acts of American terrorism, and now as history does, we
run the risk of having it repeat itself. Our longstanding tension with Russia, as well as the way we
have bombed Syria, an ally of Russia, does not suggest an unchallenging future. Our rocky relations
with North Korea have not been the best either. However, history s repetition is not necessarily a
negative thing seeing as it is vital to learn from our errors. Only then can we grow and better equip

The Prevelance of Diabetes in the Hispanic Culture
The earliest inhabitants of Mexico are believed to have been hunters who migrated from Asia
approximately 18,000 years ago. Over time they built organized civilizations with distinct cultures like
the Olmec, Teotihuacan, Mayan, Toltec, Zapotec, Mixtec, and Aztecs. These societies excelled in the
fields of art, architecture, mathematics, astronomy, and agriculture. In 1517 the Spanish explorer
Francisco Fernández de Córdoba landed on the Yucatán, peninsula and four years later the Spanish
Conquistador Hernando Cortéz conquered the Aztec empire. For the next 300 years, Mexico, or New
Spain, would remain under colonial rule.
In the Spring of 1846 American forces quickly occupied New Mexico and California, then invaded
parts of Northeastern Mexico, Northwest Mexico and captured Mexico City. In the fall of 1847 the
war ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This event was the greatest territorial expansion of
the United States and was responsible for the annexation of approximately 80,000 Mexican citizens.
In 1910 the Mexican Revolution forced Mexicans to cross the border into the United States, in search
of safety and employment. In 1917 with the advent of World War 1 factories in war related industries
in the United States desperately need more workers. Latinos from the Southwest begin moving north
in large numbers in search of employment (Meyer, Sherman, Deeds, 1995).
The migration of people from Mexico to the United States has been a regular occurrence for

Essay Of Hypnosis
Different approaches and practices are available to cure different issues of mental illness. However, it
is necessary to choose a technique carefully. Hypnosis refers to various techniques and procedures that
are used to encourage the condition of awareness that is different from the basic and normal ways of
inducing that are used by people in daily routine. These states allow the person to get released from
different limitations and restrictions that put emphasize on their thinking in daily routine. Hence, they
may get access towards the procedure that has the capability to allow them to release from previous
restrictions and assumptions. Not just this but hypnosis allows people to get free from the time
limitation, even they can alter the way in which their body operates. The minds get the power to visit
the past experiences again and re examine them according to the learned and new viewpoints. In this
way, the better ways can be constructed to manage and solve a problem that was not possible to solve

by the practitioners. Formal hypnosis is used in the standard and command induction approaches.

The Emotions Of Creon In Antigone By Sophocles
Throughout the play Antigone by Sophocles, Antigone does not have one main motivation, but rather
a blend of many. As Antigone s three most evident motives are doing the right thing, flouting Creon s
authority, and expressing her overall anger at life, the first and the last are most important. In this play,
the combination of Antigone s emotions toward her grave past and her obligation to her brother,
regarding the gods, fuses together to be the incentive for her actions, regardless of Creon. Challenging
Creon is almost a side effect, a medium through which Antigone can achieve her goals.
Antigone s past is a messy one: an incestual and murderous curse put on her family, her mother s
suicide, her father s self mutilation and banishment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, in Antigone s conversation with Ismene, she reveals more of her motivations. Antigone s
anger is carried over, but the reader is also introduced to a budding grief. She states that Creon has no
right to keep [her] from [her] own (59). The fact that Polynices is her brother is enough to for
Antigone to justify her actions against the law. The tone of this statement feels like a grief stricken
plea, to do what is right for her brother. She loves him, and he deserves to be buried. Antigone then
mentions that Creon and everyone who refuses to bury Polynices is dishonor[ing] the laws the gods
hold in honor (91 92). For Antigone to then act against everyone, would, therefore, be the right thing,
in terms of religious beliefs. For someone other than Antigone this might be sufficient enough
motivation, but since she is so complex it is only a factor. A thoughtful, rational person probably
wouldn t be so quick to jump into a decision that would inevitably lead them to their death, even if
that decision was the right one. Since Antigone is so upset with her life, she doesn t care if she lives or
dies, if the past is any indication of her future, only more pain will come. This is what makes her do
the right thing. Antigone believes burying her brother is right, and that the laws of the gods must be
obeyed, so it is a factor, but since she actually takes action and buries him, she throws her life away.

Assessing the Significance of the Cityscape to the...
The Sign of Four is a detective novel written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, which was published in
1890. It is Conan Doyle s second novel to feature detective Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes is a
master detective, known for his deduction skills, disguises and most importantly, his use of the city as
means of solving mysteries. The cityscape plays a significant role in the narrative of The Sign of Four.
Conan Doyle uses real places found in London in The Sign of Four. It gives the novel a degree of
realism, and Holmes the detective appears genuine to the reader. He certainly knows his way through
the streets of London. At the beginning of the novel, Dr. Watson and Holmes are travelling across
London to a meeting they know very little ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His biggest advantage as a detective in London is use of networking. The Baker Street Irregulars are a
group of homeless children Conan Doyle included in his Sherlock Holmes series several times. They
are Sherlock s eyes and ears on the streets of London, as he notes they can go everywhere, see
everything, overhear everyone (Conan Doyle 93) He can gather them all together with the help of their
leader Wiggins, and then inform them of what they should keep an eye out for. They can assemble
within a few hours, and are immediately ready to work. They provide unparalleled access to the
murkiest parts of London s underground. It is in The Sign of Four that Holmes notes this is just the
case where they might be invaluable (Conan Doyle 89). Holmes manages to navigate the problems
that the modern cityscape of the late 1800s throws at him, namely limited means of transport, by
spreading his eyes and ears thinly across London. While it may be helpful to the cause, Holmes
ultimately uses the Baker Street Irregulars to do his dirty work for him. This goes against the belief
that Sherlock Holmes is a detective who avoids the harming of innocent people by using his mighty
intelligence to solve crimes.
There is a sort of supremacy to be found in The Sign of Four with regards to the city. London is seen
as a greater place than anywhere else on this earth. Here they have cocaine addictions, murders,
criminals and

And just as each person s physical DNA is unique, each individual we studied had a unique innovator s DNA for generating breakthrough business ideas. Imagine that you have an identical twin, endowed with the same brains and natural talents that you have. You re both given one week to come up with a creative new business venture idea. During that week, you come up with ideas alone in your room. In contrast, your twin (1) talks with 10 people including an engineer, a musician, a stayat home dad, and a designer about the venture, (2) visits three innovative start ups to observe what they do, (3) samples five new to the market products, (4) shows a prototype he s built to five people, and (5) asks the questions What if I tried this? and Why do you do that? at least 10 times each day during these networking, observing, and experimenting activities. • 5. Cloisonne Tripod Censer The 19th century luxurious Cloisonné tripod censer has no known artist and is labeled to be from 1644 to 1911. It is made of enamel on copper alloy with a dimension of 28cm in height. In a display with five objects, it was the most lavished in both form and colors. The ornamented pot can be associated with higher society or respected people because the material of copper and enamel are, unlike clay or bronzes, produced for specific groups of people with no mass production. Initially, the dominant light blue color didn t look like a typical Chinese censer that I ve seen before. However, like other censers we see in Chinese cultures today, this tripod censer would be seen as the centerpiece of an altar surrounded by vases and candlesticks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colors used in the enamel are light blue as its main background that symbolizes the sky, dark blue, yellow, dark green, light green, red and white. Every shape has a thin golden outline, which explains the unique and non industrialized manufacturing process. The fluid patterns seem to be filling up the space in a non systematic nor a symmetrical way to reflect the natural behaviors of the plants. There are no composition or main point of focus. Thus, the patterns are there to create the surface rather than to illustrate a story. The empty areas such as the legs of the tripod are filled with curved vine patterns. The curling vines overlap each other, creating a sense of dimension and space on a flat surface. The leaf texture and lines make the vines recognizable. Moreover, the absence of the leaf on the middle section of the lid shows that the curls on the lid are clouds intertwining with smaller dragons that are hidden. This style reminisces the art of Zhou where interlacing animals formed intricate patterns. Coincidentally, this is where the smoke or the cloud of the incense will flow through. This censer portrays the commonly displayed theme of journey to heaven, as it is embodied by the elements of the plants on Earth and the clouds from heaven. The use of Leiwen patterns in the vines and clouds throughout the object helps unify the different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Maynard Keynes was a British economist whose ideas and theories have greatly influenced the practice of modern economics as well as the economic policies of governments worldwide. He believed that in times when the economy slowed down or encountered declines, people would not spend as much money and therefore the economy would steadily decline until a depression occurred. He proposed that if the government injected money into the economy, it would help stimulate consumers to purchase more and firms would produce more as a result, in a continuous cycle. The aggregate expenditures line is the summation of consumption expenditures, investment expenditures, government purchases, and net exports. The 45 degree line represents all combinations in which aggregate expenditures equal aggregate output. Keynesian equilibrium is also represented by the saving investment, or injection leakage, model as the intersection between the injection line (investment expenditures, government purchases, and exports) and the leakage line (saving, taxes, and imports). (2) Keynes established the theory of the multiplier effect. Keynesians believe that, because prices are somewhat predictable, variations in spending, such as consumption, investment, or government expenditures, cause output to fluctuate. For example, if government spending increases and all other components remain constant, then output will increase. The multiplier effect is defined as output increases by a multiple of the original change in spending that caused it. (3) This means, that if the government were to increase their spending by ten billion dollars, it could cause the total output to rise by fifteen billion dollars (a multiplier of 1.5) or by five billion (a multiplier of 0.5). Bound Feet And Western Dress Character Analysis Bound Feet Western Dress is a book written by Pang Mei Natasha Chang that begins in her family home in Connecticut as she shuffles through a carved mahogany trunk from China that held the secrets of China. Inside are her grandmother s embroidered silk lounging robes, grandfathers tuxedo, white dinner jackets and jodhpurs, aprons of her amah, Xu Ma, and cheongsams that she had learned to fold from her father. Finally, she finds the black cheongsam like dress that once belonged to her great aunt Yu I and goes to tell the story of her life in traditional China as it was merging with Western tradition and becoming modern. Throughout the book, Yu I tells of many old Chinese traditions. In China, women were only meant to please men. If a family had a daughter, they were considered guests and were later carted off for marriage by fourteen. Uneducated women were considered more obedient, so parents often did not let their daughters learn anything other than their duty to their state, family, and husband. By the age of four, boys were no longer allowed to play and began to learn. • 19. Cultural And Ethical Issues Of Homosexuality The world today faces many cultural and ethical issues that some believe are only relevant in today s day and age. The Bible bluntly states that homosexuality is a sin. However, would it still be considered homosexuality if there were a gender change surgery before going through with the immoral act? There are many scripture verses in the Old Testament that evidence the demoralization of a sex change both then and there and here and now. The bible goes into depth explaining that God painstakingly made man and woman deliberately as they are. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis) Gender identity confusion is not a sexual problem but an emotional one. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) A person s gender is predestined along with all other facets of their life. (Henry) God would not create a person with the genitalia of a female and the heart and consciousness of a male. (Bohlin) For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints, (1 Corinthians 14:33) Gender identity comprehension occurs early on in childhood development. It begins at birth and messages of assertion and authentication of one s personhood can be distorted from many factors such as parents and family, society and even media. • 23. Anne Boleyn s The First Wife Of Henry Viii Essay Anne Boleyn is a figure that continues to fascinate us centuries after she met her end on the scaffold. The story goes that King Henry struggles with his conscience when it becomes clear that his wife Catherine will not give him a male heir. He meets Anne and falls in love, and as a consequence breaks with Rome and the Holy Roman Catholic Church to marry her. When she too fails to produce the elusive son he desires he has her executed. The second wife of Henry VIII, Anne s is a biography that many know, and yet this juxtaposes with the reality that her story is often oversimplified by the salacious details of her life. In the context of the early English reformation, Anne was a player to the colossal events of this period and for this, her role in them deserves to be more closely examined. Anne is a fundamental part of the reformation to the extent that she allowed the door on it to be cracked open through key events such as the divorce from Catherine of Aragon, the King s Great Matter , the Break with Rome, and the Royal Supremacy to take place. The idea of divorcing his first wife was not a relatively new one for King Henry. He had been married to Catherine of Aragon for almost two decades by the late 1520s. For years Henry had had a growing concern as Catherine, six years his senior, passed her childbearing years behind. It became increasingly likely she would not be able to bear a son. Byron is very passionate about woman and describes in his eyes what the perfect woman would look like. It tells us what is important to guys, the appearance of a woman, what they notice first. In the story Byron states She walks in beauty, like the night of cloudless climes and starry skies (line1 2). That line is stating that when a woman walks in, the man first notices how she walks, and that she looks mysterious. The way a woman carries herself is very important. It s good to be confident, a woman who is confident in herself shows it in the way she walks and carries herself. Byron makes it a point at the end of the story that his girl has to be innocent. He states A mind at peace with all below, a heart whose love is innocent (line 17 18). In other words byron is like a tiger, he is experienced. In my opinion the weaknesses of Panera Bread are the stringent criteria to gain a consideration for a Panera Bread franchise and the huge amount of initial investment for a Panera Bread bakery cafe referred in the exhibit 7 in this case which cost approximately 1,003,000 to 2,235,175 dollars plus real estate and related costs. This may limit the number of franchisees which could be a barrier of the expanding strategy in the long run. Moreover, because of the company has its own fresh dough facilities to supply fresh dough daily to both company owned and franchised bakery café , if there is an accidental problem in deliver process, the store may lack of the fresh dough for producing in store. Even though the alternative menus such as children s menus, innovative or trendy dishes and the healthy menu are the opportunities of Panera to extend the target group of customers. The catering service is the interesting opportunity for the Panera s management team to extend its market to workplace, schools and parties. In addition, in my opinion expanding to outside United Stats is another good opportunity to extend the market share as well. According to exhibit 9 in the case, the direct rival of Panera would be Atlanla Bread Company which its products are almost the same line with Panera (i.e. fresh baked breads, salads and sandwiches). If the company overpasses this threat and does not differentiate its products and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Any activity delay on the critical path impacts the planned project completion date. A network diagram visually conveys the critical path. This visibility into the critical path allows project managers to prioritize activities and take appropriate corrective actions to meet schedule deadlines. An understanding of the critical path also allows project managers visibility as to which schedule activities are flexible that is, those activities that are not on the critical path. Although the U.S. was neutral during World War I it was no secret that they were selling ammunition to England, France, and Russia. • 46. The Prevelance of Diabetes in the Hispanic Culture The earliest inhabitants of Mexico are believed to have been hunters who migrated from Asia approximately 18,000 years ago. Over time they built organized civilizations with distinct cultures like the Olmec, Teotihuacan, Mayan, Toltec, Zapotec, Mixtec, and Aztecs. These societies excelled in the fields of art, architecture, mathematics, astronomy, and agriculture. In 1517 the Spanish explorer Francisco Fernández de Córdoba landed on the Yucatán, peninsula and four years later the Spanish Conquistador Hernando Cortéz conquered the Aztec empire. For the next 300 years, Mexico, or New Spain, would remain under colonial rule. In the Spring of 1846 American forces quickly occupied New Mexico and California, then invaded parts of Northeastern Mexico, Northwest Mexico and captured Mexico City. • 48. The Emotions Of Creon In Antigone By Sophocles Throughout the play Antigone by Sophocles, Antigone does not have one main motivation, but rather a blend of many. As Antigone s three most evident motives are doing the right thing, flouting Creon s authority, and expressing her overall anger at life, the first and the last are most important. In this play, the combination of Antigone s emotions toward her grave past and her obligation to her brother, regarding the gods, fuses together to be the incentive for her actions, regardless of Creon. Challenging Creon is almost a side effect, a medium through which Antigone can achieve her goals. Furthermore, in Antigone s conversation with Ismene, she reveals more of her motivations. Antigone s anger is carried over, but the reader is also introduced to a budding grief. She states that Creon has no right to keep [her] from [her] own (59). The fact that Polynices is her brother is enough to for Antigone to justify her actions against the law. The tone of this statement feels like a grief stricken plea, to do what is right for her brother. She loves him, and he deserves to be buried. Antigone then mentions that Creon and everyone who refuses to bury Polynices is dishonor[ing] the laws the gods hold in honor (91 92). For Antigone to then act against everyone, would, therefore, be the right thing, in terms of religious beliefs. For someone other than Antigone this might be sufficient enough motivation, but since she is so complex it is only a factor. A thoughtful, rational person probably wouldn t be so quick to jump into a decision that would inevitably lead them to their death, even if that decision was the right one. Since Antigone is so upset with her life, she doesn t care if she lives or dies, if the past is any indication of her future, only more pain will come. This is what makes her do the right thing. Antigone believes burying her brother is right, and that the laws of the gods must be obeyed, so it is a factor, but since she actually takes action and buries him, she throws her life away. ... It is Conan Doyle s second novel to feature detective Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes is a master detective, known for his deduction skills, disguises and most importantly, his use of the city as means of solving mysteries. The cityscape plays a significant role in the narrative of The Sign of Four. Conan Doyle uses real places found in London in The Sign of Four. His biggest advantage as a detective in London is use of networking. The Baker Street Irregulars are a group of homeless children Conan Doyle included in his Sherlock Holmes series several times. They are Sherlock s eyes and ears on the streets of London, as he notes they can go everywhere, see everything, overhear everyone (Conan Doyle 93) He can gather them all together with the help of their leader Wiggins, and then inform them of what they should keep an eye out for. They can assemble within a few hours, and are immediately ready to work. They provide unparalleled access to the murkiest parts of London s underground. It is in The Sign of Four that Holmes notes this is just the case where they might be invaluable (Conan Doyle 89). Holmes manages to navigate the problems that the modern cityscape of the late 1800s throws at him, namely limited means of transport, by spreading his eyes and ears thinly across London. While it may be helpful to the cause, Holmes ultimately uses the Baker Street Irregulars to do his dirty work for him. This goes against the belief that Sherlock Holmes is a detective who avoids the harming of innocent people by using his mighty intelligence to solve crimes.
