The Beginning Of The Twentieth Century
The beginning of the twentieth century marked a significant event not just in the changes of ideology,
technology, but also the way artists approach art. Communism and Fascism were on the rise and
technological advances held strong since the industrial revolution. However, The need for a wholesale
new approach to art in the nineteenth century arose as the traditional forms of art were borne down on
by new conditions and experiences. (21) became apparent. To satisfy this need artists took many
different approaches, but three most significant they approaches this issue involve: the rejection of
traditional art, protesting status quo, and the non western approach. Although each approach is rapidly
different from the other, they share the same bond of testing the boundary of art and at times ignoring
it completely. This resulted in artwork becoming more powerful, meaningful, and influential. At the
turn of the nineteenth century artist decided to approach art in a new way, meaning they started to
reject traditional art. Artists craved new art to better represent the new conditions and experiences that
were felt. This was described by ``The need for a wholesale new approach to art in the nineteenth

Timbuktu is a movie based in the small town of Timbuktu in the middle of the desert. The family in
the movie lives just a simple life of herding cattle and minding their own business. This is a family

Their son spends his days herding cattle like he should for his father. As the son herds the cattle there
most prized cattle wonders into the fishing net of a fisher man. The fisher man kills the cow just for
that reason. Just because the cow messed your net up, doesn t mean u have to kill it. The father was

Left Field Media Llc Is The Appellant
Left Field Media LLC is the appellant (lower court plaintiff). The City of Chicago, Illinois, and Elias
Voulgaris are the appellees (lower court defendants). Left Field Media LLC publishes Chicago
Baseball. Elias Voulgaris is a patrol officer in Chicago s police force.
Facts:
At the first Chicago Cubs home game of 2015, Left Field s Editor Matthew Smerge was selling his
Chicago Baseball magazine at the corner of Clark and Addison streets adjacent to Wrigley Field.
Smerge refused to move when officer Elias Voulgaris told him to go across the street to be in
compliance with the Adjacent Sidewalks Ordinance, which prohibits peddling on specific sidewalks
adjacent to Wrigley Field. Smerge was ticketed and he then moved rather than risk arrest. He later
sued, claiming that the city ordinance violates the First Amendment. Smerge did not have a peddlers
license badge and was not ticketed for lacking one.
Lower Court Holdings:
The district court declined to issue a preliminary injunction.
Issue Presented:
Is banning all sales on crowded sidewalks adjacent to a stadium a reasonable time, place, and manner
restriction on the First Amendment rights of publishers which is fairly applied or should newspapers
be given an exception to the peddling ban?
Holdings:
The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court in denying Left Field s motion for
a preliminary injunction. The district court may now hear a request for a new hearing and a permanent
injunction. The

Write An Essay On Clinical Laboratory Technician
Clinical Laboratory Scientists or Medical Technologists are science professionals who work in
conjunction with physicians and nurses as an important member of the health care team. Depending
on the amount of education a person has, there are opportunities for advancement in the clinical lab.
There are also other scientific areas the Clinical Lab Tech can work in, such as research, public health
and academia. A Medical Technologist performs laboratory testing ranging from simple to complex.
The tests they perform may require complicated equipment or may use something as simple as the
microscope. What equipment is used depends on the test needed. Results of these tests performed by
lab specialists are used by physicians to help treat their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Implementation Of The Course Management System
There are several implementations that need to be address thought this development. The first
challenge is the architecture itself in the implementation that this challenge addresses and what it
holds. The next implementation is the course management system and the platforms that the system is
going to reside on after that the project and any support that is needed throughout the system. There is
also a deployment strategy and making sure that will be able to deploy the system in a proper manner
but the potential challenges of the team needs to be also addressed as well. Lastly how the system is
going to be updated on a regular basis needs to be addressed and discussed. There are several
implementations that need careful thought, but with the skills of this team and the knowledge that is
available to us we will be able to implement software that is capable of handling the load and the
security of the desired system. The application will be very robust and we will be able to implement
an environment that will be the forefront of the network and of all the computer systems in its time.
The software and system updates can be performed in an out of band manage environment. The
challenge that is involved is that the implementation of the architecture is somewhat challenging but
the system will be able to be updated very easily. For example Apache will be the web services for the
network and files called war files will be needed to update the system. These war files will be

Similarities Between Scarface And Scarface
Introduction
How are the two movies different from each other? Is it the era, the theme of or its execution? In
retrospective, both will surely have difference, especially since the two are created with different aims.
If one is to analyze the films, one will find a grey area between its differences, wherein differences are
both superficial and minor at best.
Scarface is a crime drama film that is famously known for being one of the most violent and profanes
films during its time of release. Focusing on the rise of Tony Montana (Al Pacino) on the criminal
ladder and becoming more psychotic as his career as the leader of his drug empire progresses, leading
to his eventual downfall. Directed by Brian de Palma, written by Oliver Stone and with performance
of the cast with the lead Al Pacino, Scarface became a cult classic among the ... Show more content on

Both films are distinct in its execution. The Godfather s portrayal is a more subdued one, Brando s
speeches and philosophizing gives a more intellectual approach. Life in the mafia is hard, but is not
fully shown. It is layered behind the walls of character development and dialogue, while they are
eating together for dinner and sharing insults about their mothers, the next scene will show the group
getting ready for a hit. Politically, The Godfather has no strong indication of getting associated with
politicians, though there are suggestions, they are not enough to be fully fleshed out. Scarface, on the
other hand, is a steady but surely approach. Rough neighbourhood with murdering Indians, underling
takes crown from boss after confrontation, and the main character becoming more paranoid and
delirious as he snuffs coke into his nose. Politics also play a rule in the mindset of our hero, Tony
would gladly carve a hole on a communist, and he would get really angry when hearing Colombians

Ancient Cosmology And The Natural Laws Of The Universe
It has been embedded in Chinese psyche that nature is a powerful force which nurtures life and human
beings but could also be unpredictable, uncontrollable and terribly devastating. Always bearing in
mind the incredible power of nature, early Chinese noticed the perpetual transformation and
interchange between all elements in the universe in order to inhibit, to support, to impact and to
impulse each other s development and expansion. Therefore, it is a common belief among most
Chinese that harmony is the essence of life and all living beings coordinate under the natural laws of
the universe. This ancient cosmology leads us to the concept of yin and yang, a famous Chinese
philosophy explaining the balance of all elements in the universe. ... Show more content on

Yin yang, in its simplest concept, is derived from peasant s daily life and was only meant to explain
natural phenomena: the rise and set of the sun, an essential force controlling Chinese s farming,
trading and production. The yang symbol implies the sunlight during the day when peasants start their
day at the fields while yin illustrates a lack of sunlight at night when farmers return home to rest. This
sun based daily pattern leads to further implication which associates yang with movement and activity
(dong) and yin, on the other hand, with rest and passivity (jing). There is not much historical evidence
suggesting other possible original meanings of yin and yang. However, no matter how and when the
primitive concept of yin yang was formed, it has become profoundly influential in Chinese and other
East Asian culture.
At the beginning, yin and yang existed as two independent and unconnected concepts. Later then, we
can see these two characters be written together for the first time in a verse from Shijing (Book of
Songs), one of Zhou Dynasty s famous classic: Viewing the scenery at a hill, looking for yinyang . Yin
and yang in this implication are interpreted as the shady and sunny sides of a hill, but meanwhile
emphasizes the general impact of the sun on that hill. Nowadays, yin and yang can be used to
represent many contrasting yet coordinating aspects of different objects. Yang can be masculine,

Sartre s Existentialism
Shortcomings of Sartre s Existentialism
[1] Philosophy is the manner in which we describe the world around us. We develop our moral code
and way of life based off of this definition, so the philosophy that we adhere to is a guiding factor in
the way in which we live. In his speech Existentialism is a Humanism, Jean Paul Sartre defends his
philosophy, existentialism, against its critics by arguing that for human existence, precedes essence
(20) because we have free will. Due to this, our essence is constructed through the actions we choose
to take, so that one is no more than the sum of his parts (Sartre 37), making each person responsible
for themself. Sartre argues that this leads to anguish that people are responsible for not just ... Show

As there is no deterministic god or destiny, people are the sole determiners of their actions, according
to Sartre, and thus fully responsible for them.
[3] Sartre argues that each action taken by a person is representative of his or her idea of the proper
way of life in that situation. He provides an example in support of this: if a person joins a Christian
trade union, surely then he or she must believe that being a Christian is the proper lifestyle for all
people, otherwise they would not advocate for it personally. Likewise, if a person becomes a
Communist, they must hold the belief that Communism is the best form of government and should be
instituted everywhere, otherwise they would not desire to live under it (24). In addition, Sartre argues
that people would never choose evil, but rather always good (24), as it would be illogical to make a
choice that is against their own interest. Therefore, when making decisions, one is proclaiming what
he or she believes is best for all people. The idea that in choosing myself, I choose man (25) leads to
an understanding of a vital component of existentialism anguish.
[4] Anguish, defined by Sartre, is the realization that one s idea of how one should live is not just
limited to oneself, but extended to all humans. When one acts, they are declaring to the world their
ideal human image. After introspection, the grave realization that one has a grand responsibility to all
others thrusts a

Aristotle Rational Animals
I do agree with proposition 3: Humans are rational animals and proposition 4: Reasoning and speech
are perfects of ration animals. Man, is a rational animal because he possesses the power of speech.
Other animals use their voice to express their pain and pleasure, but only human voices are charged
with reason. Speech is a signal of the rational ability to determine what is just or unjust, as well as
harmful or unharmful to the peculiar man. This allows a rational man, with the help of other rational
people to decide what is right and wrong. If Aristotle associates rational animals with happiness and
politics, then the notion of rationality informs what Aristotle perceives to be a mans telos with is

The Major Sports at Mandelbaum are Baseball, Basketball,...
As we moved on history, depending on the period of time that we find ourselves in, a particular sport
would be important as people relate their lives into it. Mandelbaum focus on three different sports and
three different time periods, to show us their relationship. He states that, sports come to play an
important role in our lives as we are able relate and find a significance that represent and fits our lives.
This is the explanation Mandelbaum reaches when we tries to explain why Americans had become
ardent fans of sports. The three major American sports that Mandelbaum focus on are baseball,
football and basketball. This sports had been chosen for America because they embody three major
stages in American culture. Baseball represents the agrarian period, football the industrial revolution
and basketball the new innovative and modern society.
Mandelbaum dedicates a complete chapter for each of the three sports. In each chapter he explains the
history, rules and culture as references to demonstrate the importance of each sport to the past as well
as the message they give to their fans. By analyzing the period time and the history of each game, he
correlates even that help us demonstrate the importance each game had in their corresponding period.
As well as the idea of merit, in where everyone is equal. By showing us how people became attractive
to a particular sport, Mandelbaum s ideas were becoming clearer. People will be attractive to a sport

Subjective Expectation Of Privacy In The Fourth Amendment
III. THE HANDGUN AND MAGAZINE SEIZED IN THE APARTMENT SHOULD BE
SUPPRESSED BECAUSE THEY WERE OBTAINED UNJUSTIFIABLY WITHOUT A WARRANT
AND AS A RESULT OF AN ILLEGAL SEARCH The defendant or proponent of a motion to
suppress has the burden of establishing that his own Fourth Amendment rights were violated by the
challenged search or seizure. (Rakas v. Illinois (1978) 439 U.S. 128, 131.) In other words, the Fourth
Amendment depends on the property rights were violated because the person is claiming that they had
a reasonable expectation of privacy in the invaded place. (Rakas v. Illinois, supra, 439 U.S. at p.143.)
In order to prove that the defendant has standing to challenge the validity of a search, the defendant
must show that there is an actual subjective expectation of privacy and that the subjective expectation
of privacy is one that the society recognizes as reasonable. (Smith v. Maryland (1979) 442 U.S. 735,
740.) Additionally, under the Fourth Amendment, all warrantless searches are per se unreasonable
unless there is a warrantless exception then officers need a warrant to conduct a search and seizure of
a person s home. (U.S. Const. amend. IV.) (A) Mr. Meyers has Standing to Challenge the Search and
Seizure of the handgun and Magazine because he holds a Reasonable Expectation of Privacy in the
Apartment where he has his Personal Belongings in. In Olson, the Supreme Court held that an

Explain The Background, And Repercussions Of Manifest Destiny
Explain the background, and repercussions of, Manifest Destiny.
In 1845, John O Sullivan wrote an Article in the United States Magazine and Democratic Review in
favor of the annexation of Texas. In this article the term Manifest Destiny was created. O Sullivan
wrote the fulfilment of our Manifest Destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the
free development of our yearly multiplying millions. Thus supplying the American people with the
idea that it was their God given duty to travel west and claim the lands in order for the American
citizens to prosper. It was commonly believed that acting on this began with the expedition of Lewis
and Clarke in 1804, however the ideas behind Manifest Destiny can be sourced back to the pilgrims
first voyage over to the New World. The ideas of Manifest Destiny still continue even into today s
society with American ideology and culture seeping into our own lives. However, it is not an entirely
positive scheme, it had many negative repercussions primarily for the Native Americans. Many were
forced out of their homes, separated from their families and thousands died. The dominant theme that
runs throughout the events leading up to and the results of Manifest Destiny is the idea of American
exceptionalism. This is the idea that American s are unique in their ideals of democracy and liberty,
exhibiting strength where other nations fail. This belief permeates through American culture and is
only reiterated in the

Filariasis has no clear vaccine. Thus, the best way to eradicate the disease is by eliminating
microfilaria from the infected individuals, which therefore will interrupt the process of transmitting
the infection by the mosquito. Administration of diethylcarbamazine concurrently with albendazole or
invermectin (DEC) is proven to eliminate 99% of microfilaria from the infected individual. Albeit
advance treatment of this disease is currently available, vigorous action should be taken by the
communities and the respective agencies to abolish all potential breeding sites for mosquitoes.
WHO classify this disease a disease of the poor, due to its pervasiveness to occur in remote rural
areas. Thus, if I were to construct two premises on filariasis, I would say; first, to have a filariasis is to
live in poverty. Second, people are infected by filariasis. And therefore, I would conclude that those
who are infected by filariasis are most likely to live in poverty. As has been stated by the WHO, the
fight to eliminate filariasis is also a fight against poverty .
Malaria is another example of vector borne infectious disease that uses mosquitos as vectors and
would infects the blood. Malaria remains a big problem in many sub tropical and tropical countries.
The United States is considered Malaria free since it has been eradicated in this country since early
1950 s. However, over 1300 cases of malaria, including 8 deaths were reported in 2002.

As the rising epidemic of obesity has attracted considerable media attention, so has the promotion for
maintaining healthy wellbeing. Tom Naughton s documentary, Fat Head, is a stellar model of this
media attention. It examines the exact cause of weight gain, and the reliability of the Government s
nutritional guidelines. The contention of Fat Head is that the U.S Government and Morgan Spurlock
(the creator of Super Size Me) present misleading information. However, Naughton s bias becomes
apparent through the careful selection of film techniques, and the silencing of certain characters, who

The refuting of Spurlock s criticism of McDonald s is also shown in the scene, where Naughton
requests for Spurlock s food log. In this segment, where there is on screen text accounting the number
of hanged up calls, the audience is positioned to believe that Naughton has been refused repetitively
by the representatives of Super Size Me. From this, viewers are given the impression that Spurlock is
a liar, as Spurlock is unwilling to provide Naughton the food log. While Spurlock is mentioned, but he
himself is not given the opportunity to put forward his point of view. Nowhere in this scene do
viewers hear Spurlock s refusal, or the actual conversation between the agents of Super Size Me and
Naughton. It is clear from this scene that Fat Head is one sided.
Another instance in Fat Head that effectively portrays Spurlock negatively is through the director s
body language while criticising Super Size Me. Much of the time, Naughton has his hands on his hips
with his eyebrows synclined. This gesture connotes anger. Viewers perceive through Naughton s
aggression that the information addresses in Super Size Me is mendacious, readily accepting
Naughton s invited reading. Moreover, the employment of the camera at medium, eye level shot is to
enable viewers to feel as though they are interacting with the real Tom Naughton. This sense of

A Communication Analysis Of The Waterview Connection...
Have the Right Actions been Taken?
A Communication Analysis of the Waterview Connection Development
Introduction
Grunig (2013) sees public relations and communication management as fundamental to the
achievement of organisational goals. A major road and tunnelling project in West Auckland, has
required considerable planning and communication alongside its publics. The Waterview Connection
Development (WCD) is a motorway connection between State Highways 16 and 20, which, in part,
runs as tunnels. The WCD links between the central business district and the airport, and an alternative
to State Highway 1.
This essay critically assesses how the New Zealand Transport Authority (NZTA) has communicated
with publics throughout the WCD. It analyses the communication activity, and applies public relations
theory.
Key Publics
Major publics with a distinct interest include residents with properties affected by the noise and
possible shifts of land, road users who may experience delays during building, and businesses that
may lose of revenue if customers find it difficult to access them. Mehta and Xavier (2009) note
engagement relationship strategies used with various publics may be different to each other and during

Ego And Superego In Henry s Id By Frued
Frued was the first to suggest that everyone has a large unconscious, and he classified it into three
parts. These three parts being the Id, ego, and superego. The movie Regarding Henry provides many
great examples of these three parts. This movie is about a lawyer named Henry who gets shot in the
head during a robbery of a small store, and his journey to recovery. He starts out as a man who only
cares about winning cases and materialistic items, but after the shooting he is a completely different
person. He has more of a moral compass after the incident, as well as a more playful and loving nature
toward his family. Henry s natural state is most likely the superego because he became more moral
and gained a conscience of what is right and wrong. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the movie he finds pleasure in winning court cases and fancy items. He seems
uninterested in his wife and daughter, and only pays them attention when he has to. After the incident
the things that bring him joy are almost the complete opposite. The things he once cared for he has no
interest in. When he learns to speak again he becomes extremely excited and proud of himself, and he
has the same reaction when he learns to walk. He also becomes more playful with his daughter and
gains pleasure from being around her. They become closer than they ever would have been, and he
begins to do many things with his daughter like reading and making jokes with her as if he is a young
child. To name a specific example of when his Id is shown, would be when he went to the library with
his daughter and he begins to throw little pieces of paper at her while she is trying to do her
homework. This shows a more playful side that we would ve never seen before. Henry went from
being completely selfish and gaining pleasure from superficial things to becoming a caring and playful

Canonization
The Catholic Christians belief on Canonization and the Scripture writings have a difference according
to Paul and the letters he wrote. Canonization is a process that is used by the churches to name Saints,
the churches have utilized this since the nineteenth century. This has been done over and over for
several years. It began with the early church, first martyrs then the public claim did the choosing of
these saints; however, this way was thought to be democratic despite the information being distorted
and some of it never even existed. However, some Christians have different views with the attributions

These people were thought to go straight to heaven where they could be with Jesus in the presence of
the Lord, for example these people had the ability to intercede for the living people s sins. They
believed in confessing their sins to other people in the hope of being prayed for and healing. These
people were thought to be powerful and with a direct connection with God. However, the controversy
against this is that there is no scripture in the Bible in support of this point; it is an abomination to pray
to the death. Before God, all believers were equal no one is regarded purer than the other and
worshiping a dead person or praying to them was a cult (George,

Monsanto s Argument Against Superweeds
The introduction of herbicides and their counterparts, herbicide resistant crops, to industrial
agriculture led to a rise in superweeds. Superweeds are weeds, which have grown resistant to
key ingredients in herbicides, such as glyphosate in Monsanto s Roundup. In an attempt to
overcome superweeds, Dow AgroSciences (DAS) is petitioning the Animal and Plant Health
Inspection Service (APHIS) for the nonregulated status of three 2,4 D herbicide resistant crops.
Additionally, DAS submitted a complementary 2,4 D herbicide new use application for each of
the aforementioned herbicide resistant crops, to be reviewed by the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA). In January 2014, APHIS released a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), ...

Interpersonal Communication Skill Of Feedback
The interpersonal communication skill of feedback is essential for hospital nurses to give a suitable
care to each patient because it enables the nurses to learn, and improve their motivation, performance
and efficiency that assist to achieve their goal which is to help the patients heal. The interpersonal
communication skill of feedback is a system of conveying information between two people regarding
the receiver s performance (Baker et al. 2013). In general, feedback is employed to deliver
information about interim objectives and recent behaviour or performance, and to guide individuals on
expected enhancement and outcomes for the organisation (Baker et al. 2013). Receiving feedback
provides individuals with information on their strengths and weaknesses, which allow them to have an
opportunity to build self improvement plans if the individuals are willing to change their behaviour or
performance (De Janasz et al. 2014). Suitable feedback within an organisation results in positive
behaviour changes which improve efficiency of the organisation (Baker et al. 2013). There is evidence
showing that supportive feedback employments promote improved openness to feedback, increased
feedback seeking behaviour, and inspiration to use feedback and change performance behaviour
(Baker et al. 2013). When nurses identify feedback as a helpful resource that can enhance the quality
of care, feedback can lead to an outstanding advancement promoting the nurses well being (Giesbers

Evaluate The Social And Economic Effects Of The Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall had a massive impact on east and West Germany, socially, economically and how the
contrast between them affected each other when the wall fell.
On 13 August 1961, a wall was erected through Berlin, named the Berlin Wall. The wall completely
cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany. I will be evaluating the social and economic
impacts the Berlin Wall had on East and West Germany when it got built, and how they affected each
other after the wall fell. Before the wall Germany has recently been defeated in World War II this
caused Soviets, Americans, British and French to hold a conference meeting to decide the division of
Germany. They decided to divide Germany into four zones one for each. France, the U.S. and Britain
were guaranteed access to their zones in Berlin, even though they had to pass through the Soviet zone
to get there. But the differing ideology of the Soviets and their former allies became apparent almost
immediately.
Soviets controlled most of East Europe and started to install communist governments in nations like
Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. But people started to flee the harsh strict rule of these countries.
2.6 million East Germans had escaped to West Germany. This had a devastating effect on East
Germany because the majority of the people who left were young skilled people, such as intellectuals,
doctors and engineers. This was humiliating to East Germany and they didn t want to lose any more

Animal Miserable Rhetorical Analysis
Language is powerful and can evoke guilt, fear, admiration, and joy. At times, however, emotional
language has a negative effect when the author uses words that seem to disrespect or guilt the
audience. In Gary Steiner s essay Animal, Vegetable, Miserable, Steiner debates that veganism is the
only acceptable lifestyle because it does not endanger the lives of animals. Although Steiner clearly
explains his firm stance, he uses a disdainful tone when relating personal struggles that ultimately
disconnects the audience. Steiner does not relate and does not effectively prove veganism would end
all animal suffering. Instead of discussing the advantages of veganism in an objective manner, Steiner

needless guilt solve these problems? While Steiner s argument may be powerful and passionate,
ultimately it is ineffective. Guilt can only change so much; focusing solely on influencing emotion

Explain The Differences Between The Hayward Gallery
Explain the differences between the Hayward gallery (1968) and its South Bank neighbour, the Royal
Festival Hall (1951) in terms of their planning and finishing and in the different ways they relate to
their urban context. While there are many similarities between the Hayward Gallery and Royal
Festival Hall, there also are a number of differences in terms of planning and finishing in relation to
urban context. Higgs and Hill built the Hayward Gallery, which opened on The 9th of July. It is an art
gallery located in the Southbank Centre, which is a key arts venue in Central London. Until early 2011
the gallery was simply known as the Hayward. The Royal Festival Hall is situated adjacent to the
Hayward Gallery. It is a famous dance, concert and talks venue with a capacity of 2500. It was the
first the post war building to listed as a Grade 1 building. The Hall officially opened on 3rd May 1951
and was built as part of the Festival of Britain for the London County Council. Planning plays an
integral role in the procedure to achieve any given outcome. Without any planning it would be
extremely challenging for the architects to succeed with their desired outcome. Nonetheless the

Historical Aspects Of Ancient China
As with all oracular processes, chance remains a pivotal aspect of divining the future. The use of
divination in the context of Ancient China is a way of explaining the unknown. Known in the Western
sphere as The Book of Changes, the Yijing/I Ching conversely known as Zhouyi is a document that
was incepted during the Bronze Age for the purposes of divination. The contents of the Yijing holds
sixty four short chapters, each consisting of three elements: a hexagram, a hexagram statement, and
six line statements. The hexagrams are drawings of six parallel lines, some whole and some broken.

Even if the divination process selects the same hexagram for varying situations, it does not guarantee
that they will all have the same outcome of success or failure. The Yijing is rooted in mathematics; the
basis of the hexagrams were inspired by nature, which can be debased to mathematical equations. 2 to
the power of 6 equates to the number of hexagrams within the document (64 total). Since numbers to
the power of 2, together with multiple symmetries, turn up everywhere in mathematical and physical
structures, Chinese scholars found no difficulty in applying the 64 hexagrams to everything from the
structure of crystals to the solar system. Hexagrams were also discovered to have relation to binary by
William Leibniz. Hexagrams in the Fuxi order, if written with 0 for the broken lines and 1 for the
whole lines, and with the bottom line at the right, gave the binary

Francis Bacon Research Paper
Many people have heard of the mathematicians Issac Newton, John Locke, or William Petty. All of
these mathematicians changed history with their groundbreaking ideas and methods. However, all of
these mathematicians were influenced by the mathematician, Francis Bacon. Bacon was influential in
many aspects during the English Renaissance. He was an author, philosopher, scientist,
mathematician, and served as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor of England. Francis Bacon had a
successful life, not only in the progress he made in science and math, but also other achievements he
made. Francis Bacon was born in London, England on January 22, 1561. He was born into a high
class family with his father, Nicolas Bacon, being the Lord Keeper of the Seal. His mother, Anne
Bacon, was also the daughter of Edwards VI s tutor. At first Bacon was homeschooled where he was
taught the works of famous philosophers and scientists. Due to his family s wealth, at the age of
twelve, Bacon was able to attend Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1573. There, he met Queen Elizabeth,
who was astounded by his intelligence. Then, in 1576, Bacon attended law school at the Honorable
Society of Gray s Inn. From there, he studied at the English Embassy in Paris where he learned
valuable political advice. Bacon s goal was to become as well versed in politics as possible, which
brought him all over Europe. Eventually, Bacon was studying languages, civil law, and statecraft
while working for the English Ambassador.

2013, p. 813 821. This paper summarizes Alam s cross sectional study focussed on the ability of
female sex workers in Bangladesh to negotiate for condom use with clients. After conducting an
assessment with 1395 workers, 439 from brothels, 442 from hotels and 514 street workers, he has
reported that there are key differences in the factors influencing each group. He finds that they are
mobile and there are a greater number of them, street sex workers are least likely to negotiate with
clients. The overall results of condom use negotiation are quite poor; on average, about 28.1% of all
sex workers negotiated consistently. As the lack of condom use makes sex workers vulnerable to
sexually transmitted diseases, it is essential that they are given the required administrative support to
enhance negotiation skills. Alam s insights are powerful as they document the specific factors that
discourage female sex workers from negotiating with clients. He finds that the primary motivation is
financial; clients offer more for condoms to not be used, and sex workers are reluctant to negotiate as
it could lead to lost customers. This conversation about competition for clients provides important
insights regarding the structural factors affecting sex work. Alam finds that sex workers are heavily

Symbolism Used in James Joyce s Dubliners

Symbolism
Symbolism is a powerful tool used by people every day to force people to look past the obvious and
find the deeper meaning. Symbolism is used by authors, musicians, priests, and many others. James
Joyce, a well known Irish author, uses symbolism repeatedly throughout his collection of short stories
published in 1916. In these stories, titled Dubliners, Joyce uses symbolism not only to enhance the
stories, but to also show the hidden, underlying message of each story without coming out and saying
it directly. Joyce s stories are centered on the problems of Dublin and through his use of symbolism
Joyce is able to focus attention on what problem each story is addressing. James ... Show more content

From the opening sentence Joyce gives his readers and idea of what to expect from his stories.
Examining the term gives a deeper meaning that enhances the story. At the boy s home, The wild
garden behind the house contained a central apple tree and a...rusty bicycle pump (21). The apple tree
symbolizes Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, self deception followed by self knowledge. The
bicycle pump symbolizes the kid s pumped up, full of hot air, fascination with the girl and then being
deflated. The apple tree and bicycle pump are clues to the outcome of the story. The boy also
discovers three important and symbolic books in his house. The Abbot is about the worship of a
special lady, The Devout Communicant is about worship and The Memoirs of Vidocq is a detective
story that usually ends with the truth being revealed. All three stories are hinting at what will happen
to the boy at the end of the story. The boy goes to Araby, a market of goods from all over the world, to
buy the girl a gift in order to prove his love to her, but when he finally gets there the market s closing
in ten minutes. The boy heard a voice call from one end of the gallery that the light was out (27).
Joyce frequently uses light to symbolize an epiphany or realization. In this case, the boy realizes the
girl does not really have feelings for him as he had convinced himself to believe. The light provides
the reader with the moment the boy

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Derivatives
Derivatives are financial contracts whose price is either linked to the price of an underlying asset,
commodity, rate, index or the occurrence or significance of a certain event. The phrase derivative
originated from how the price of these contracts is derived from the price of some underlying
commodity, security or index or the magnitude of an event. The set of financial instruments that
include futures, forwards, options and swaps are referred to by the term Derivative. A derivative can
be combined with a security or loan which will be then called a hybrid instrument or alternatively a
structured security and structured financing. (Dodd, R., 2002).

Analysis Of The Poem Bacchus Discovering Ariadne
Jacob Jordaens, Bacchus Discovering Ariadne, late 1640 s
This painting that I have found while venturing the Museum of Fine Arts has definitely caught my eye
for infinite reasons. Bacchus Discovering Ariadne by Jacob Jordaens was definitely a painting that has
a story, but the thing is, there isn t much about it, which is a challenge. Most of the focus in this
painting is set on Ariadne and the meeting between her and Bacchus. Not only that but the painting,
and all other paintings associated with this myth, focus on the shift from divine perfection to humanity
that is found in Renaissance and Baroque artwork. The oil painting made by Jacob Jordaens tells the
story of Ariadne, the princess of Crete, being deserted on the Island of Naxos by Theseus, the
Athenian prince who she helped escape from her father s labyrinth. Bacchus, whom is the god of
wine, and his satyrs discover her, and he falls in love with Ariadne. As a testimony of his devotion he
holds up her crown, which he will then toss into the heavens to create a constellation in her honor. In
this painting he shows Ariadne as an extremely feminine figure that s not only fair but regarded as
beautiful The body of Bacchus is sculpted showing the muscles in his legs and throughout the rest of
his body. But the contrast in this painting is striking. The contrast of this painting lies between the
structural elements of Bacchus and of the three satyrs that have accompanied him. These satyrs are in

Lynch mob
After the news of the rustling of Drew s cattle and the murder of one of the rancher, Kinkaid, the mob
gets infuriated and decides to catch the culprit and hence, do justice. Though, aware of the
consequences of such posse, they agree to be a part of it because now they had someone to blame on if

Lynch mob as a literal concept is self evident. Clark uses the mob as a form of criticism against the

He feels that law and justice are important to sustain a society and they must reflect the moral

At one level, it deals with the inadequacies of the law in addressing to the question of justice and at
the same time highlights the importance of the law in a society as even in presence of inadequacies,
law is needed as it is better than a state of lawlessness.
Another interesting view put forth is that justice may not necessarily mean taking revenge and
punishing those who go against the society but it means that in doing so, the innocent must not suffer
and that every accused must be given an opportunity to fair trial and fair procedure in determination of
their guilt.
It also deals with the questions of morality and psychology of a person who assumes the position of

Gun Control and the Bill of Rights Essay
George Mason, a co author of the Bill of Rights, said To disarm the people is the best and most

have been a part of American history since we declared independence from Britain in 1776. Many
people believe that removing weapons from the hands of citizens is the only way to stop criminals
from shooting down people at malls and kids at schools, but this is not the case. Outlawing guns is not
the answer for effectively reducing gun crime.

Murder by knives was first, followed by clubs, then strangulation. It seems that by banning guns,
people used other ways to kill. On the other hand, Switzerland s gun policy is very different than other
nations. It requires all men to go through militia training at age twenty and issue an assault rifle when
they complete it. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving everyone a
high powered, fully automatic firearm.
Another hot topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select fire guns (capable of
semi automatic or fully automatic fire),which have the ability to shoot rounds as long as you can hold
the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have banned owning assault
weapons in some sense. Some may argue that these guns are overkill, and aren t practical for hunting
or self defense, whereas other firearms fill that position well. In some cases that might be true, but if
multiple intruders enter your home armed, a pistol with a low capacity clip may not suffice. Contrary
to popular belief, gun crime has dropped significantly over the past 20 years. Since 1993, violence
involving guns has gone down 49% according to Pew Research. The media is to blame for

Job Outsourcing In America
Job outsourcing is the shifting of a business from one country to another. Companies may choose to
outsource or offshore for a number of reasons, perhaps they are trying to save money on taxes or
increase productivity in the company. Job outsourcing affects the lot of Americans whether it s in a
positive or a negative way. Unfortunately offshoring leads to a decrease in jobs. Ten years later, the
number of such jobs had shrunk to 106,100, with most of them subcontracted at annual pay of $38,990
stated Behind shrinking middle class jobs (2017). The loss of jobs to outsourcing applies to everyone
from fast food restaurants to automotive technicians and when jobs are lost its significantly harder for
workers to make the same salary as

Ms. Gray started this project without knowing that it was an African American cemetery and started to

For the past year, she took it upon herself to resort the neglect cemetery by recruiting volunteers and

Plentifu Mark Twain s The War-Prayer
Realism and naturalism are both basic yet cynical views of life and humanity that arose during the
trials and turmoil of the 19th century. Both views stripped away the layers of romanticism to present a
natural or real viewpoint of the work. These forms of writing refuse to idealize or praise the subject
while also avoiding artificial, fantasy, or mystical elements. In American literature, the term realism
refers to writings that depict the realistic, everyday life of an average, middle class individual. It
portrays concrete reality closely and more emphasis is placed on the character and his purpose rather
than the plot and action. Word choice and diction used by realists are common vernacular and the
events that take place are plausible. The characters and plots are often based around factual events and
people, and it aims to show a truthful representation of reality. Realism began around the start of the
Civil War and lasted until the turn of the century a time of exponential growth for the United States.
With this growth came increasing rates of literacy which provided a ... Show more content on

Twain impeccably employs realism in a way that powerfully and effectively expresses his objective
message. He opens this story in the setting of a Sunday morning church congregation celebrating the
war and praying for safety, strength, courage, and well being of the soldiers as they go into battle. The
preacher prays blessings over the arms and that in the spirit of love God grant the victory. Throughout
this story, Twain illustrates realism not only through the language and dialect he portrays, but also the
representations of the characters. The reader can easily visualize being in the congregation due to the
realistic pride being portrayed by the American people and the common speech used during the prayer
dialect that any individual would hear while in a church

Time For Baseball To Pick Up The Pace
The article Time for Baseball to Pick Up the Pace by Bob Klapisch from The Record talks about how
the game of baseball is taking too much time and the game needs to make some changes to speed up
the game. One of the most important positions in baseball is the pitcher, but changing the pitcher for
every batter or multiple times in one should be limited to two per inning. Nothing has done more to
slow the pace of game than the over reliance on relievers, especially in the late innings(Klapisch).
Managers sometimes use three pitchers in one inning so they get the right matchups. By doing this
each new pitcher has to throw their warm up pitches. The pitchers also have to come in from the
bullpen to the mound. Both of these events take extra time

Skinner’s Use of Metaphor in Explaining the Behaviorism...
Skinner s Use of Metaphor in Explaining the Behaviorism of Walden Two B. F. Skinner
revolutionized the field of psychology through his numerous writings on behaviorism. However, he
began his collegiate life as an English major, and his education in literary techniques and devices
clearly shows through in the manipulation of metaphor in his famous novel Walden Two. Although
Skinner rarely diverges from the incessant description of behavioral engineering through his
mouthpiece in the novel, Frazier, he occasionally digresses from the theory and application of
scientific experimentation to the literary elements that are essential to any novel. One of these
elements, the metaphor of the sheep that appears at the beginning and ... Show more content on

The novel, an exposition of behaviorist thought, is almost a Socratic dialogue with Frazier acting as
the famed questioning philosopher and Castle as the ignorant pupil, through which the superiority of
behavioral engineering is eventually proven. Although Castle leaves disenchanted with what he
considers a fascist ideology, Burris eventually succumbs to the appeal of Walden Two and participates
in Frazier s experiment of humanity. Although these crucial ideas might overshadow the literary merits
of Walden Two, Skinner the English major understood the importance of every minor detail and
digression from the main narrative. The sheep, which serve no purpose to the plot of the story,
illustrate Skinner s behaviorist ideas through metaphor. The sheep benefit the community in a
superficial sense by acting as a more efficient lawnmower, requiring only the work of moving a
portable fence. Although once electrocuted, the fence is now just string, and the only other restraint is
a sheepdog, the Bishop, which guards the sheep watchfully. This idea works on a deeper level to help
Skinner relate his scientific ideas to literary ones. As Frazier expounds upon the

Jazz Music, Freedom and Women
Background of Jazz
Jazz is still considered as etymology obscure as the origin and the background of the music is still
unclear to the society. According to The Oxford Dictionary of Music, 2nd Edition by Kennedy
Michael (1994), page 445 :
Jazz is a term which came into general use for a type of music which developed in the Southern States
of United States of America in the late 19th century and came into prominence at the turn of the
century in New Orleans, chiefly (but not exclusively) among black musicians
Jazz which was considered as America s classical music was developed during the late 18th century
but it only found it real habitats in Louisiana port city in New Orleans around 1900. The jazz was a
combination of blues, American popular song, musical theatre, European classical music, ragtime and
marches. During 1900 to 1928, jazz was widespread to Americans household through the recording
industry. Played by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band in 1917, Livery Stable Blues was the first jazz to
be recorded.
During the beginning of dance boom in 1910, the early jazz was widely spread through the country. As
new couple dances such as trots and two steps being introduced to the young generation, the natural
swing of jazz had made it ideal for these dances as it has uneven rhythm. This new music was then
recognised as a symbol of rebellion and flock to speakeasies, cabarets and dance halls in order for the
young generation to enjoy it.

Essay Mt. Rainier
Mt. Rainier
The first time I saw Mt. Rainier for myself, was last summer when my boyfriend and I drove to
Washington. It was the most beautiful, peaceful looking mountain I have ever seen. However,
underneath it s great beauty, it hides a deadly secret. Mt. Rainier is one of the most dangerous
volcanoes that we have here in the United States. One of the reasons it is so dangerous is because of it
s great beauty. People enjoy looking at it, and the area that surrounds it, so they have made their
homes here. Mt Rainier is not the only volcano I am interested in, in fact this last summer I also went
to Mt. St. Helens and Crater Lake. But it is the volcano I chose to research for this paper because it
does have so much beauty and at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, I set out to find out what information there was about volcanoes, and if there was anyone out there
who wanted to discuss them with me.
To begin my search I went to my favorite search engine, Yahoo.com. I have always found that this
engine is the easiest to use, and gives you the best information. At first, I researched all volcanoes, not
just Mt. Rainier. There was so much information out there that I found it difficult to narrow it down to
just 10 for my annotated bibliography. I was able to spend hours on the computer exploring the
various sites and finding out new information. From most of the sites I went to I was able to link to
other sites that had to do with the same subject. I found this to be very useful in doing my research.
Not only did I find information about volcanoes and how they work, I found places where I could buy
volcano merchandise, watch real time videos of eruptions, and look at volcano cams from around the
world. I learned so much about all kinds of volcanoes from my research, but when it came down to
answering the questions that I had asked, there were two web sites that I found were the most useful,
The US Geological Societies Cascades Volcano Observatory, and Volcanoes Online. These two I
found to be the most useful in my research.
Mount Rainier is located in Washington, and it basically dominates the landscape of a large part of
western Washington. The mountain is 4,329 meters, and it is what

The 7 Simple Principles Of Corporate Chaplaincy
I have recently read Mark Cress C Change: How To Transform Any Business Through The 7 Simple
Principles of Corporate Chaplaincy (Wake Forest, NC: Lamphier, 2005). This review will discuss and
evaluate the seven principles Christ, Call, Confidentiality, Compassion, Control, Consistency, and
Conversion and briefly discuss their relevance and importance and the way the author has presented
and discussed each principle. In addition I will critique two things I disagree with, and in conclusion I
will give a final assessment of the book including more personal opinion. Clear introduction that
outlines your intentions
Mark Cress is the founder and former president of Corporate Chaplains of America (CCA) with some
18 years experience in corporate chaplaincy. According to his book s preface, by learning the 7 C s of
Corporate Chaplaincy will open up new perspectives of leadership and care for individuals, and by
implementing them into the life of the business will transform it for future success and eternally
impact the lives of its employees in the process (Cress, 2005, p. ii). Cress has written his book in
seven short chapters one for each of the principles each a short story from the perspective of a
fictional chaplain new to the job, Reverend Lonnie Peppers, based on real life situations. These
situations reflect the principles and their importance, and how the situation changes or improves when
each principle is practiced or a favourable outcome is reached when

Online Predators and the Need for Preventative Measures...
The Internet is an immense database that provides users with a tremendous amount of information on
research, commerce, and entertainment. Unfortunately, as the internet keeps advancing, online
predators continue to become more successful in what they do. The internet is an ideal network for
pedophiles to pursue their interests and fixations with young children. It enables them to locate and
interact with adolescents more rapidly than ever before. Although the idea of pedophiles luring
children in on the internet is a horrifying image, it is happening. It is through the internet s easy
accessibility that children continue to become vulnerable to these internet predators while engaging in
social networking sites. With a simple click of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, they review online profiles until they locate someone who fits their agenda. After locating an
appropriate match, a predator usually attempts to get the innocent child into a personal conversation.
Online predators often seduce their targets through the use of fondness and compassion. Once they
gain the teenagers trust, they bribe the teen into meeting with them on a more personal basis (Mitchell,
2006). Unfortunately, online predators are usually looking for sex or arousal. In worst cases, however,
meeting with these predators can all too often be fatal for young children. For this reason, a solution
needs to be taken into action to decrease the risk of exposing these young children to online predators.
However, many feel that the only way to reduce the risk of internet pedophiles is to develop an
identity verification tool for social networking web sites. Unfortunately, a new study concludes that
the threat facing children online is no worse than it is in the real world. Age verification technologies
only work if people choose to use them (Talbot, 2009). Therefore, the only true way to protect our
children is through proper education and awareness. By informing parents, educators, and teenagers of
online predators, the number of sexual crimes against young children online can be greatly reduced.
As a result, the community needs to inform the younger generation about the proper precautions that

  • 2. The Beginning Of The Twentieth Century The beginning of the twentieth century marked a significant event not just in the changes of ideology, technology, but also the way artists approach art. Communism and Fascism were on the rise and technological advances held strong since the industrial revolution. However, The need for a wholesale new approach to art in the nineteenth century arose as the traditional forms of art were borne down on by new conditions and experiences. (21) became apparent. To satisfy this need artists took many different approaches, but three most significant they approaches this issue involve: the rejection of traditional art, protesting status quo, and the non western approach. Although each approach is rapidly different from the other, they share the same bond of testing the boundary of art and at times ignoring it completely. This resulted in artwork becoming more powerful, meaningful, and influential. At the turn of the nineteenth century artist decided to approach art in a new way, meaning they started to reject traditional art. Artists craved new art to better represent the new conditions and experiences that were felt. This was described by ``The need for a wholesale new approach to art in the nineteenth century arose as the traditional forms of art were borne down on by new conditions and experiences. (21). In particular the experience of technology like the world has never seen before, where traditional art didn t seem to be able to produce content that satisfy these new ... The City of Chicago, Illinois, and Elias Voulgaris are the appellees (lower court defendants). Left Field Media LLC publishes Chicago Baseball. Elias Voulgaris is a patrol officer in Chicago s police force. Facts: At the first Chicago Cubs home game of 2015, Left Field s Editor Matthew Smerge was selling his Chicago Baseball magazine at the corner of Clark and Addison streets adjacent to Wrigley Field. Smerge refused to move when officer Elias Voulgaris told him to go across the street to be in compliance with the Adjacent Sidewalks Ordinance, which prohibits peddling on specific sidewalks adjacent to Wrigley Field. Smerge was ticketed and he then moved rather than risk arrest. He later sued, claiming that the city ordinance violates the First Amendment. Smerge did not have a peddlers license badge and was not ticketed for lacking one. Lower Court Holdings: The district court declined to issue a preliminary injunction. Issue Presented: Is banning all sales on crowded sidewalks adjacent to a stadium a reasonable time, place, and manner restriction on the First Amendment rights of publishers which is fairly applied or should newspapers be given an exception to the peddling ban? Holdings: The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court in denying Left Field s motion for a preliminary injunction. The first challenge is the architecture itself in the implementation that this challenge addresses and what it holds. The next implementation is the course management system and the platforms that the system is going to reside on after that the project and any support that is needed throughout the system. There is also a deployment strategy and making sure that will be able to deploy the system in a proper manner but the potential challenges of the team needs to be also addressed as well. Lastly how the system is going to be updated on a regular basis needs to be addressed and discussed. There are several implementations that need careful thought, but with the skills of this team and the knowledge that is available to us we will be able to implement software that is capable of handling the load and the security of the desired system. The application will be very robust and we will be able to implement an environment that will be the forefront of the network and of all the computer systems in its time. The software and system updates can be performed in an out of band manage environment. • 7. Similarities Between Scarface And Scarface Introduction How are the two movies different from each other? Is it the era, the theme of or its execution? In retrospective, both will surely have difference, especially since the two are created with different aims. If one is to analyze the films, one will find a grey area between its differences, wherein differences are both superficial and minor at best. Scarface is a crime drama film that is famously known for being one of the most violent and profanes films during its time of release. Focusing on the rise of Tony Montana (Al Pacino) on the criminal ladder and becoming more psychotic as his career as the leader of his drug empire progresses, leading to his eventual downfall. Directed by Brian de Palma, written by Oliver Stone and with performance of the cast with the lead Al Pacino, Scarface became a cult classic among the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both films are distinct in its execution. The Godfather s portrayal is a more subdued one, Brando s speeches and philosophizing gives a more intellectual approach. Life in the mafia is hard, but is not fully shown. It is layered behind the walls of character development and dialogue, while they are eating together for dinner and sharing insults about their mothers, the next scene will show the group getting ready for a hit. Politically, The Godfather has no strong indication of getting associated with politicians, though there are suggestions, they are not enough to be fully fleshed out. Scarface, on the other hand, is a steady but surely approach. Rough neighbourhood with murdering Indians, underling takes crown from boss after confrontation, and the main character becoming more paranoid and delirious as he snuffs coke into his nose. • 8. Ancient Cosmology And The Natural Laws Of The Universe It has been embedded in Chinese psyche that nature is a powerful force which nurtures life and human beings but could also be unpredictable, uncontrollable and terribly devastating. Always bearing in mind the incredible power of nature, early Chinese noticed the perpetual transformation and interchange between all elements in the universe in order to inhibit, to support, to impact and to impulse each other s development and expansion. Therefore, it is a common belief among most Chinese that harmony is the essence of life and all living beings coordinate under the natural laws of the universe. This ancient cosmology leads us to the concept of yin and yang, a famous Chinese philosophy explaining the balance of all elements in the universe. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yin yang, in its simplest concept, is derived from peasant s daily life and was only meant to explain natural phenomena: the rise and set of the sun, an essential force controlling Chinese s farming, trading and production. The yang symbol implies the sunlight during the day when peasants start their day at the fields while yin illustrates a lack of sunlight at night when farmers return home to rest. This sun based daily pattern leads to further implication which associates yang with movement and activity (dong) and yin, on the other hand, with rest and passivity (jing). There is not much historical evidence suggesting other possible original meanings of yin and yang. However, no matter how and when the primitive concept of yin yang was formed, it has become profoundly influential in Chinese and other East Asian culture. At the beginning, yin and yang existed as two independent and unconnected concepts. Later then, we can see these two characters be written together for the first time in a verse from Shijing (Book of Songs), one of Zhou Dynasty s famous classic: Viewing the scenery at a hill, looking for yinyang . Yin and yang in this implication are interpreted as the shady and sunny sides of a hill, but meanwhile emphasizes the general impact of the sun on that hill. Nowadays, yin and yang can be used to represent many contrasting yet coordinating aspects of different objects. Yang can be masculine, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sartre s Existentialism Shortcomings of Sartre s Existentialism [1] Philosophy is the manner in which we describe the world around us. We develop our moral code and way of life based off of this definition, so the philosophy that we adhere to is a guiding factor in the way in which we live. In his speech Existentialism is a Humanism, Jean Paul Sartre defends his philosophy, existentialism, against its critics by arguing that for human existence, precedes essence (20) because we have free will. Due to this, our essence is constructed through the actions we choose to take, so that one is no more than the sum of his parts (Sartre 37), making each person responsible for themself. As there is no deterministic god or destiny, people are the sole determiners of their actions, according to Sartre, and thus fully responsible for them. [3] Sartre argues that each action taken by a person is representative of his or her idea of the proper way of life in that situation. He provides an example in support of this: if a person joins a Christian trade union, surely then he or she must believe that being a Christian is the proper lifestyle for all people, otherwise they would not advocate for it personally. Likewise, if a person becomes a Communist, they must hold the belief that Communism is the best form of government and should be instituted everywhere, otherwise they would not desire to live under it (24). In addition, Sartre argues that people would never choose evil, but rather always good (24), as it would be illogical to make a choice that is against their own interest. Therefore, when making decisions, one is proclaiming what he or she believes is best for all people. The idea that in choosing myself, I choose man (25) leads to an understanding of a vital component of existentialism anguish. [4] Anguish, defined by Sartre, is the realization that one s idea of how one should live is not just limited to oneself, but extended to all humans. When one acts, they are declaring to the world their ideal human image. After introspection, the grave realization that one has a grand responsibility to all others thrusts a ... • 11. Aristotle Rational Animals I do agree with proposition 3: Humans are rational animals and proposition 4: Reasoning and speech are perfects of ration animals. Man, is a rational animal because he possesses the power of speech. Other animals use their voice to express their pain and pleasure, but only human voices are charged with reason. Speech is a signal of the rational ability to determine what is just or unjust, as well as harmful or unharmful to the peculiar man. This allows a rational man, with the help of other rational people to decide what is right and wrong. If Aristotle associates rational animals with happiness and politics, then the notion of rationality informs what Aristotle perceives to be a mans telos with is Eudaimonia. Telos means an end goal. Mandelbaum focus on three different sports and three different time periods, to show us their relationship. He states that, sports come to play an important role in our lives as we are able relate and find a significance that represent and fits our lives. This is the explanation Mandelbaum reaches when we tries to explain why Americans had become ardent fans of sports. The three major American sports that Mandelbaum focus on are baseball, football and basketball. This sports had been chosen for America because they embody three major stages in American culture. Baseball represents the agrarian period, football the industrial revolution and basketball the new innovative and modern society. Mandelbaum dedicates a complete chapter for each of the three sports. In each chapter he explains the history, rules and culture as references to demonstrate the importance of each sport to the past as well as the message they give to their fans. By analyzing the period time and the history of each game, he correlates even that help us demonstrate the importance each game had in their corresponding period. THE HANDGUN AND MAGAZINE SEIZED IN THE APARTMENT SHOULD BE SUPPRESSED BECAUSE THEY WERE OBTAINED UNJUSTIFIABLY WITHOUT A WARRANT AND AS A RESULT OF AN ILLEGAL SEARCH The defendant or proponent of a motion to suppress has the burden of establishing that his own Fourth Amendment rights were violated by the challenged search or seizure. In other words, the Fourth Amendment depends on the property rights were violated because the person is claiming that they had a reasonable expectation of privacy in the invaded place. (Rakas v. In 1845, John O Sullivan wrote an Article in the United States Magazine and Democratic Review in favor of the annexation of Texas. In this article the term Manifest Destiny was created. O Sullivan wrote the fulfilment of our Manifest Destiny to overspread the continent allotted by Providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions. Thus supplying the American people with the idea that it was their God given duty to travel west and claim the lands in order for the American citizens to prosper. It was commonly believed that acting on this began with the expedition of Lewis and Clarke in 1804, however the ideas behind Manifest Destiny can be sourced back to the pilgrims first voyage over to the New World. The ideas of Manifest Destiny still continue even into today s society with American ideology and culture seeping into our own lives. However, it is not an entirely positive scheme, it had many negative repercussions primarily for the Native Americans. Many were forced out of their homes, separated from their families and thousands died. The dominant theme that runs throughout the events leading up to and the results of Manifest Destiny is the idea of American exceptionalism. This is the idea that American s are unique in their ideals of democracy and liberty, exhibiting strength where other nations fail. Albeit advance treatment of this disease is currently available, vigorous action should be taken by the communities and the respective agencies to abolish all potential breeding sites for mosquitoes. WHO classify this disease a disease of the poor, due to its pervasiveness to occur in remote rural areas. Thus, if I were to construct two premises on filariasis, I would say; first, to have a filariasis is to live in poverty. Second, people are infected by filariasis. And therefore, I would conclude that those who are infected by filariasis are most likely to live in poverty. As has been stated by the WHO, the fight to eliminate filariasis is also a fight against poverty . A Communication Analysis of the Waterview Connection Development Introduction Grunig (2013) sees public relations and communication management as fundamental to the achievement of organisational goals. A major road and tunnelling project in West Auckland, has required considerable planning and communication alongside its publics. The Waterview Connection Development (WCD) is a motorway connection between State Highways 16 and 20, which, in part, runs as tunnels. The WCD links between the central business district and the airport, and an alternative to State Highway 1. This paper summarizes Alam s cross sectional study focussed on the ability of female sex workers in Bangladesh to negotiate for condom use with clients. After conducting an assessment with 1395 workers, 439 from brothels, 442 from hotels and 514 street workers, he has reported that there are key differences in the factors influencing each group. The overall results of condom use negotiation are quite poor; on average, about 28.1% of all sex workers negotiated consistently. As the lack of condom use makes sex workers vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases, it is essential that they are given the required administrative support to enhance negotiation skills. Alam s insights are powerful as they document the specific factors that discourage female sex workers from negotiating with clients. He finds that the primary motivation is financial; clients offer more for condoms to not be used, and sex workers are reluctant to negotiate as it could lead to lost customers. Bacchus Discovering Ariadne by Jacob Jordaens was definitely a painting that has a story, but the thing is, there isn t much about it, which is a challenge. Most of the focus in this painting is set on Ariadne and the meeting between her and Bacchus. Not only that but the painting, and all other paintings associated with this myth, focus on the shift from divine perfection to humanity that is found in Renaissance and Baroque artwork. The oil painting made by Jacob Jordaens tells the story of Ariadne, the princess of Crete, being deserted on the Island of Naxos by Theseus, the Athenian prince who she helped escape from her father s labyrinth. Bacchus, whom is the god of wine, and his satyrs discover her, and he falls in love with Ariadne. As a testimony of his devotion he holds up her crown, which he will then toss into the heavens to create a constellation in her honor. In this painting he shows Ariadne as an extremely feminine figure that s not only fair but regarded as beautiful The body of Bacchus is sculpted showing the muscles in his legs and throughout the rest of his body. It requires all men to go through militia training at age twenty and issue an assault rifle when they complete it. Switzerland has the lowest gun crime rates in the world, despite giving everyone a high powered, fully automatic firearm. Another hot topic that politicians debate about is allowing assault rifles, or select fire guns (capable of semi automatic or fully automatic fire),which have the ability to shoot rounds as long as you can hold the trigger down, in the hand of American citizens. Currently, eight states have banned owning assault weapons in some sense. Some may argue that these guns are overkill, and aren t practical for hunting or self defense, whereas other firearms fill that position well. In some cases that might be true, but if multiple intruders enter your home armed, a pistol with a low capacity clip may not suffice. Contrary to popular belief, gun crime has dropped significantly over the past 20 years. Since 1993, violence involving guns has gone down 49% according to Pew Research. The media is to blame for sensationalizing shootings and with the internet s influence an argument that got out of hand can be seen as an all out battle. The Second ... • 45. Plentifu Mark Twain s The War-Prayer Realism and naturalism are both basic yet cynical views of life and humanity that arose during the trials and turmoil of the 19th century. Both views stripped away the layers of romanticism to present a natural or real viewpoint of the work. These forms of writing refuse to idealize or praise the subject while also avoiding artificial, fantasy, or mystical elements. In American literature, the term realism refers to writings that depict the realistic, everyday life of an average, middle class individual. It portrays concrete reality closely and more emphasis is placed on the character and his purpose rather than the plot and action. Word choice and diction used by realists are common vernacular and the events that take place are plausible. The characters and plots are often based around factual events and people, and it aims to show a truthful representation of reality. Realism began around the start of the Civil War and lasted until the turn of the century a time of exponential growth for the United States. With this growth came increasing rates of literacy which provided a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He opens this story in the setting of a Sunday morning church congregation celebrating the war and praying for safety, strength, courage, and well being of the soldiers as they go into battle. The preacher prays blessings over the arms and that in the spirit of love God grant the victory. Throughout this story, Twain illustrates realism not only through the language and dialect he portrays, but also the representations of the characters. • 46. Time For Baseball To Pick Up The Pace The article Time for Baseball to Pick Up the Pace by Bob Klapisch from The Record talks about how the game of baseball is taking too much time and the game needs to make some changes to speed up the game. One of the most important positions in baseball is the pitcher, but changing the pitcher for every batter or multiple times in one should be limited to two per inning. Nothing has done more to slow the pace of game than the over reliance on relievers, especially in the late innings(Klapisch). Managers sometimes use three pitchers in one inning so they get the right matchups. By doing this each new pitcher has to throw their warm up pitches. The pitchers also have to come in from the bullpen to the mound. Both of these events take extra time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Skinner’s Use of Metaphor in Explaining the Behaviorism... Skinner s Use of Metaphor in Explaining the Behaviorism of Walden Two B. F. Skinner revolutionized the field of psychology through his numerous writings on behaviorism. However, he began his collegiate life as an English major, and his education in literary techniques and devices clearly shows through in the manipulation of metaphor in his famous novel Walden Two. Although Skinner rarely diverges from the incessant description of behavioral engineering through his mouthpiece in the novel, Frazier, he occasionally digresses from the theory and application of scientific experimentation to the literary elements that are essential to any novel. One of these elements, the metaphor of the sheep that appears at the beginning and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel, an exposition of behaviorist thought, is almost a Socratic dialogue with Frazier acting as the famed questioning philosopher and Castle as the ignorant pupil, through which the superiority of behavioral engineering is eventually proven. Although Castle leaves disenchanted with what he considers a fascist ideology, Burris eventually succumbs to the appeal of Walden Two and participates in Frazier s experiment of humanity. Although these crucial ideas might overshadow the literary merits of Walden Two, Skinner the English major understood the importance of every minor detail and digression from the main narrative. The sheep, which serve no purpose to the plot of the story, illustrate Skinner s behaviorist ideas through metaphor. The sheep benefit the community in a superficial sense by acting as a more efficient lawnmower, requiring only the work of moving a portable fence. Although once electrocuted, the fence is now just string, and the only other restraint is a sheepdog, the Bishop, which guards the sheep watchfully. This idea works on a deeper level to help Skinner relate his scientific ideas to literary ones. As Frazier expounds upon the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was the most beautiful, peaceful looking mountain I have ever seen. However, underneath it s great beauty, it hides a deadly secret. Mt. At first, I researched all volcanoes, not just Mt. Rainier. There was so much information out there that I found it difficult to narrow it down to just 10 for my annotated bibliography. I was able to spend hours on the computer exploring the various sites and finding out new information. From most of the sites I went to I was able to link to other sites that had to do with the same subject. I found this to be very useful in doing my research. Not only did I find information about volcanoes and how they work, I found places where I could buy volcano merchandise, watch real time videos of eruptions, and look at volcano cams from around the world. I learned so much about all kinds of volcanoes from my research, but when it came down to answering the questions that I had asked, there were two web sites that I found were the most useful, The US Geological Societies Cascades Volcano Observatory, and Volcanoes Online. These two I found to be the most useful in my research. Mount Rainier is located in Washington, and it basically dominates the landscape of a large part of western Washington. Unfortunately, as the internet keeps advancing, online predators continue to become more successful in what they do. The internet is an ideal network for pedophiles to pursue their interests and fixations with young children. It enables them to locate and interact with adolescents more rapidly than ever before. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, they review online profiles until they locate someone who fits their agenda. After locating an appropriate match, a predator usually attempts to get the innocent child into a personal conversation. Online predators often seduce their targets through the use of fondness and compassion. Once they gain the teenagers trust, they bribe the teen into meeting with them on a more personal basis (Mitchell, 2006). Unfortunately, online predators are usually looking for sex or arousal. In worst cases, however, meeting with these predators can all too often be fatal for young children. For this reason, a solution needs to be taken into action to decrease the risk of exposing these young children to online predators. However, many feel that the only way to reduce the risk of internet pedophiles is to develop an identity verification tool for social networking web sites. Unfortunately, a new study concludes that the threat facing children online is no worse than it is in the real world. Age verification technologies only work if people choose to use them (Talbot, 2009). Therefore, the only true way to protect our children is through proper education and awareness. By informing parents, educators, and teenagers of online predators, the number of sexual crimes against young children online can be greatly reduced. As a result, the community needs to inform the younger generation about the proper precautions that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
