Wealthy Nations Have A Moral Obligation to Educate Poor...
The most substantial and important ethical problem of the 21st century will be the correction of the
vast and undeniable imbalance of the possession and consumption of the world s material, economic,
and cultural resources. In this paper, I will argue that the primary long term moral obligation the world
s over privileged have to the underprivileged is to provide those in need with the means necessary to
develop a foundation for fair future interactions. This will lead to the idea that a necessary part of the
long term obligation to the underprivileged, in addition to the redistribution of economic and material
resources, is the redistribution of ideas and knowledge through philanthropic educational programs.
The principle I will use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It feels a bit awkward to present an argument for the simple and intuitive conclusion that the world s
over privileged have an obligation to help improve the lives of those in serious need. However, I do
think it is helpful to give such an argument for two reasons.
First, simply recognizing that there is a moral obligation to fulfill leaves many crucial issues
untouched. The majority of the relevant work consists of designing and implementing programs of
assistance that fulfill the moral obligations which are recognized. Making clear the nature and
motivation of obligations informs the choices made in designing and implementing meaningful
programs of assistance. Stating clearly the moral principle on which I think the obligation to the world
s underprivileged rests will lead to my argument that programs of assistance must include the
redistribution of ideas and knowledge.
Second, I think that there are interesting objections to the commitment to such an obligation. I do not
think it wise to dismiss such views out of hand. Ultimately, I will dismiss such views as a whole, but
will allow their arguments to point my views and moral intuitions in better directions. I will now
consider two such objections.
Objection 1
I imagine that many of the world s over privileged who do not feel

Acl Trauma Essay
Current treatment and rehabilitation for ACL injuries
Introduction
This essay deals with the current treatments, rehabilitation procedures and onsets following anterior
cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. Within this essay, there will be information including the causes,
characteristics, and symptoms of ACL injuries. Throughout the United States, there are estimated to be
200,000 ACL injuries per year with 100,000 of those injuries being treated through ACL
reconstruction (Evans, Shaginaw, Bartolozz, 2014). With a satisfactory ACL reconstruction outcome

The knee joint consists of four ligaments, two intra capsular which are the ACL and the PCL and two
extra capsular ligaments including the MCL and LCL. The ACL is an extremely strong stabiliser
which prevents anterior displacement of the knee. The ACL is a ligament and therefore connects one
bone to another, the femur with the tibia. The ACLs origin is from the anterior intercondylar eminence
of the tibia (home,2017) and the fibres pass upwards, backward and laterally inserting into the lateral
condyle of the femur.
Characteristics of ACL Injuries
ACL injuries used to be seen as career ending injuries 50 years ago, however, throughout the years
with the advancement in technology aiding treatment and rehabilitation procedures. Yet they are still
sever and take months to recover. This is because of the precise location of the ligament within the
knee joint. Resulting in no blood clot formation within the joint as a consequence scar tissue will not
form and the tissue will just be filled with uncontrolled blood leading to swelling an pain within the
joint (ACL reconstruction Oxford university hospital, 2017) which is why it takes between 9 to 12
months for recovery. With an ACL injury, other injuries often follow, namely MCL injuries and
meniscal lesions which in time would likely lead to the patient contracting osteoarthritis due to it
being a degenerative disorder consequently resulting from the meniscal and

Merton Model Of Social Deviance
Merton, (1938) model of social deviance desires to refute Freudians and similar theorists that
hypothesize biological abnormalities as a valid explanation for deviance. Their theory further posits
that institutions only exist to channel deviance through some form of utilitarian calculus or unreasoned
conditioning (p. 680). That is, using punishment to deter deviance rather using it as a form of
retribution. Merton, instead, wants to articulate how institutions can itself prompt deviance, and
sustain a significant degree of control over it. He proposes a 2 phase model (673) on how society
structures individual behavior: the first phase is the cultural goal , the putative end for which we ought
to struggle. The second aspect is institutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, these postmodernists focus on the fragmented and heterogeneous nature of our culture, to
suggest that punks are not so much engaging in resistance but ironically reflecting the culture, they
putatively oppose themselves. That television, radio, magazines, pamphlets, virtual media such as the
Internet (Stahl, 1999) helps to create and prolong subculture. Instead, for postmodernists, this intense
codependence of subculture members of the media indicates how closely punks embody our present,
media obsessed moment. A structuralist neo Marxist account of punks was that they were enacting
genuine resistance and disaffection of society. But, as refigured by postmodern theorists as a form of
subcultural capital, an alternative hierarchy in which the axes of age, gender, sexuality and race are all
employed in order to keep the determinations of class, income and occupation at bay (Stahl, 1999).
Lewin and Williams (2009) ethnographic study of the punk community in the southeastern United
States agrees with the postmodernist claim that concerns about authenticity are critical to punk self
identification, and places punks into conflict with those very same post modernists. They position
authenticity in terms familiar from anomie

Nuclear Power And Nuclear Waste
Nuclear power, the type of energy that sits on the edge of humanity s greatest hopes, and its darkest
fears. With a country such as the United States continuing to expand its industry, housing, agriculture
and commercial buildings there is a need for more and more energy each year. Nuclear power is one
of the many ways the United States gets its energy. Nevertheless, it is one of the most controversial
means of energy production. The main concern with nuclear energy is the nuclear waste that is
produced along with it. The potential health and environmental risks posed by nuclear waste is what
truly scares some of the American public. Therefore, is the amount of energy output by nuclear power
plants outweigh the potential risks that nuclear waste can have on human health and the environment?
Nuclear power plants should be kept as a means of generating energy for the United States, however,
transportation and storage of nuclear waste needs to continuously be checked for safer alternatives.
Nuclear waste is generally defined as a variety of solids, liquids and gases which are produced during
the generation of nuclear energy through the process of fission, mining of Uranium, nuclear research
and weapons production (Shah, Abhishek). Nuclear waste created by a nuclear power plant is not as
complicated as one might think. First water is heated in the reactor when uranium atoms split and
cause fission, then the heated water is transferred to the primary

Essay about American Foreign Policy in South Korea

This investigation explores the question To what extent did the American foreign policy in southern
Korea before the outbreak of the Korean War contribute to North Korea s decision to invade the
South? To assess the degree of success to which the policy affected the communists decision to invade
the South, various U.S. documents, especially the official U.S. government policy documents on
Korea, will be evaluated for their effectiveness, as well as role of their role in Korea. This
investigation will not only examine the extent to which the policies contributed to the invasion, but

Although the intent was to keep the armed forces of South Korea well trained against a possible war,
poor U.S. military aid and use of U.S. advisors were not enough to keep its forces and eventually, they
were under trained and under supported (Cumings 6). In the National Security Council report of 2
April 1948, The Position of the U.S. with Respect to Korea, American government extended the aid,
training, and equipping the Korean armed forces only with an intent to keep its forces capable of
protecting the security of South Korea against any but an overt act of aggression by North Korean or
other forces (Tucker 808). The Truman administration at the time believed that the South Korean
President Syngman Rhee, who was known for constantly threatening the U.S. with bukgin slogans
(march north), might use the heavy weapons to unify Korea by force, creating tensions between
neighboring nations such as the USSR. This led American government decision to keep South Korea
in check by keeping its military capability as minimal as possible (Leckie 36). By early 1950, the
army of South Korea numbered only 60,000 with actual combat capabilities out

Slaves During The Civil War
Slaves went through a lot of struggle to try and get their freedom. They would rebel, runaway, commit
acts of arson but in the end only a war could settle the disagreement of slavery between the North and
South (2). The final battle for the end of slavery or the approval of slavery depended on the Civil war:
the Union against the Confederates. However, what happened to slaves during the Civil war? Well
slaves were permitted to take part in the war. Slaves fought in both sides, over 179,00 African
Americans were part of the Civil war serving in over 160 units (3). Since the beginning of the war
they weren t really permitted to fight in the war, even though they had fought in wars before that one,
because of the 1792 law that restricted them

A Comparison Of Mad Girl s Love Song And End Of The Road
Obsession: Love or Madness? The measure of how much one loves varies from person to person. One
person may view the intense admiration of a suitor as normal while another could view it as
possessive. Extreme passion and unrequited love could result in obsession behavior. Mad Girl s Love
Song by Sylvia Plath and End of the Road by Boyz II Men are two pieces of literature which share the
theme of obsessive love. Sylvia Plath uses dark images throughout the poem to convey her emotions.
In the first stanza of Mad Girl s Love Song the speaker says I shut my eyes and all the world drops
dead; / I lift my lids and all is born again (lines 1 2). The words the world drops dead depicts ... Show

We may even go so far as to plead for the persons return. Traditionally, the phrase End of The Road is
seen as a symbol for a place where a road stops, the end of a route, the end of a process or even death.
The song End of the Road by Boyz II Men is about a guy who gets his heart broken and is in denial
over the end of a relationship. He cannot let go but instead pleads with the woman to come back. The
song overall touches upon the theme of obsession in the sense that in the first stanza the speaker
stresses Girl you know we belong together [...]/ You ll be mine forever, baby, you just see (1 3) and
continues to say Although we ve come to the end of the road [...]/ It s unnatural, you belong to me, I
belong to you (16 18). The sentiment expressed in the quotation, embodies the view that the speaker
knows the relationship is over, but still wants to pursue something. His use of the word belong

The aim of this report is to critically analyze the adoption of cloud based accounting information
system (AIS) in business organizations and also its challenges and benefits of cloud based
environment. Cloud accounting (SAASU 20124, para 3) is also called online accounting , which
provides the same service as accounting software and data is securely stored on servers as known as
the cloud. According to Emma Watkins (Demand Media 2014, para 1), cloud accounting is the use of
computer hardware and software applications delivered as a service over the Internet. It allows to store

Cloud computing is an on demand service which has achieved great demand in corporate data centers.
The cloud facilitate the data center to work as the Internet and computing resources to be promoted
and shared as virtual resources in a secure and extensible manner (X). Most small business owners
shifted to use the new technological trend by adopt cloud based information system (SMH).
According to Wang et al. (2008, p. 3), A computing cloud is a set of network enabled service,
providing scalable, QoS guaranteed , normally personalized inexpensive computing infrastructure on
demand, which could be accessed in a simple and pervasive way .
2.2 Functional aspects of cloud computing
Conceptually, users acquire computing platforms or IT infrastructures from computing Clouds and
then run their applications inside. Therefore, computing Clouds render users with services to access
hardware, software and data resources, thereafter an integrated computing platform as a service, in a
transparent way:
HaaS: Hardware as a Service
Hardware as a Service was coined possibly in 2006. As a result of drastic improvement in hardware
virtualization, users could buy IT hardware, or even a complete data center, as a pay as you go

Albert Bandura Girls And Social Learning Theory Of Aggression
Let s shift our focus to what Albert Bandura mainly studied, aggression. Specifically, females. The
article Girls and physical aggression: Causes, trends, and intervention guided by Social Learning
Theory explores females becoming the perpetrators of physical aggression (Snethen, Puymbroeck
2008). They apply the Social Learning Theory of Aggression as their basis to examine the growing
occurrences of violence in females, society and popular culture. They propose that females taking part
in physical aggression is becoming very common, they claim it may be due to environmental changes
(Snethen, Puymbroeck 2008). Females are defenseless from a variety of sources, such as the media,
family and the community. Nonetheless, according to Bandura s SLT exposure only provides the
knowledge and increased acceptance of physical aggression (Snethen, Puymbroeck 2008). For the
aggressiveness to be triggered the individual must get emotionally affected, which leads them to want
to gain status and power. Hence, aggression will only be ongoing if there is a reinforcement (Snethen,
Puymbroeck 2008). The three main types of reinforcements are direct, vicarious, and self
reinforcement. To effectively help females, the researchers came up with two solutions, one being that
the entire community should help prevent aggressive behavior in females. Secondly, since prevention
will not aid those now affected girls they suggest planning an implementation of treatment specifically

Comparing Frankenstein And The Groomsmen
Frankenstein has many themes interpreted in different ways by each scholar, but Mary Shelley s life in
general seems to have influenced scholars the most. The scholars covered ideas that related to Mary
Shelley s marriage to Percy Shelley, how Mary Shelley expressed her own life in her novel
Frankenstein , and the emotional trauma Mary Shelley felt growing up without a natural mother. Mary
Lowe Evans brings attention to the fact that Mary Shelley s marriage to Percy was crucial in her
writing of Frankenstein . Mary Lowe Evans points out the many similarities between Percy Shelley
and Victor Frankenstein in The Groomsmen . Mary Shelley used Percy Shelly s profile as a way to
give life to Victor Frankenstein and keep his character believable and connected to the reader.

Barbara Johnson explains how Mary Shelly was capable of telling her story through male characters in
a time when her own personal autobiography would have been highly unacceptable. Laura P. Claridge
s essay Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein attempts to convince readers that certain characters
(Victor, the monster, and Walton) are examples of what happens to children who are not parented

huge impact on her novel Frankenstein . The scholars agreed that either her marriage, childhood, or
emotions were present in her novel in some form or another. The essays chosen all related to the inner
emotions felt by Mary Shelley or her actual life experiences, whether it was during her childhood, her

What Is The Cause Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution
Many factors went into the starting the French Revolution. One of the main contributing factors was
the lack of a fair hierarchy in the French society. There were 3 main classes and only 3% of people
were inside of the top 2. This created a problem as the first 2 had twice the representation that the third
did in the government. The first Estate was made up of the clergy from the Roman Catholic Church.
They also owned almost 10% of the land inside of France. The Second Estate was the rich nobles.
They owned almost 20% of the land. Both of the classes paid almost no taxes and shot down almost

They fled to Varennes, but were soon found and were taken back to Paris as crowds jeered at them.
France then found themselves at war with Austria and Prussia. This was not what France needed in
this time of civil unrest and a starved economy. In 1792 mobs in Paris attacked the Tuileries. They
were extremely unhappy and they stormed the Tuileries where the royal family was being held. They
wanted a new constitution and a convention instead of a national assembly. The Legislative assembly
soon began to dissolve away and was replaced by the National Convention. The National Convention
debated for 6 weeks on the execution of Louis XVI. On January 21st the king was sent to the
guillotine where he was beheaded. Then in 1794 the mastermind behind many of the actions that
occurred during the French Revolution Robespierre was set to be beheaded. He was accused of being
a tyrant due to some of the policies that he wanted to impose on

How Technology Change Over The Years And How Computers...
In today s society almost every information is just one click away. We have the freedom to search

technology we have like smart phones. Individuals now have the freedom to do anything on their
phones. Such as, take high quality pictures and videos, send e mails, play music, news alerts, and most
importantly having built in maps on our phones. It is really helpful especially with these features when
we are on the go. It is really surprising how technology change over the years and how computers
became handheld phones. We are absolutely living in the data age with innovation that is only a
couple of years was unimaginable. However, there are so many things concerning with smart phones
the most talked about right now is addictiveness. Now, individuals of the world have this type of habit.
Spending hours not putting them down, which can lead to many other habits, for example texting
while driving and many other things that I will touch upon. Individuals also rely to mostly everything
on smart phones. It has been said that if we forget our phones we forget our brains too. Many
individuals do not understand how this is concerning. The reason for this paper is to help other people
understand how smart phones change society. Will it do more good or will it do worse? I argue the

Standardization Of The International Organization For...
ISO Created in 1947, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) hoped to bring
standardization to a chaotic system of manufacturing. ISO intends to help standardize the quality and
safety of products bought and sold between two companies, either domestic or abroad. In fact, Heizer
Render (2014) stated the move towards global supply chains has placed so much emphasis on quality
that the world has united around a single quality standard, ISO 9000 (p. 210). Its guiding principles
are to ensure quality and safety starting at the top of management within any given organization all the
way through supplier relationships. ISO s mission to ensure accurate record keeping and detailed

ISO compliance has become the gold standard for businesses. It is like wearing a badge of honor that
proclaims any company that wears it will ensure a minimum level of quality and safety for its entire
product line. Before the onset of ISO, quality between companies was difficult to maintain as so many
companies in different countries had varying degrees of quality control. A million certificates earned,
in 178 countries worldwide, demonstrates the impact of ISO on global trade.
The Benefits of International Standardization? Corporations that wish to become global
manufacturers, such as Boeing or Lockheed Martin, may be wary of quality control and safety
practices of a company it has never done business with. For operations managers, it should be
important to deliver safe and quality products as well as receive the same level of product from other
companies (Heizer Render, 2014). ISO did not exist pre 1947; therefore, trading between companies
posed a risk of poor quality goods. Without global standardization, one company s definition of
quality may be vastly different than another. The formation of ISO and its standardization has created
a certain level of confidence in global commerce. A company can pledge its commitment to quality
and safety by earning an ISO certification. Consequently, fewer quality issues will result in increased
productivity. According to ISO, it helps companies gain access new markets, level the

and worldwide scale. The act of engaging in criminal activity as a structured assembly is called
racketeering in the United States. The premise of this project is to research social disorganization
theory as it pertains to the television series Power . Power catalogs the life of James St. Patrick, who is
also known as Ghost . Ghost has become a powerful figure in New York City s biggest drug network.
The series follows Ghost as he struggles with living a double life and his quest for legitimate business
ventures. As Ghost gets closer to legitimacy, a string of violent crimes began to take place within and
around his network. My research will incorporate the first two episodes of the first season. This paper
will present an analysis of organized crime from a sociological standpoint and uncover that social
disorganization creates a need for organized crime i.e drug networks and street gangs which increases
the occurrence of violent crime and other social disparities . I will investigate the relationship between
the presence of organized crime and social disparities n a disorganized society in my analysis of
Power .

The Dispute Over Agricultural Trade Liberalization Between...
In 2002, a dispute over agricultural trade liberalization between the United States and Brazil arose.
Brazil filed a lawsuit against the United Stated in the World Trade Organization Dispute (WTO)
Settlement System arguing that the subsidies the United States provided to US farmers violated WTO
trade agreements and gave US farmers unfair advantages (Unit 7, lesson 5). Fortunately for Brazil, the
World Trade Organization agreed with their claim and authorized them to take punitive measures
against the United States (Cengage unit 7, 3). As a result of that authorization, Brazil decided to
impose tariffs and lift patent protections on US goods (Cengage unit 7, 3). In order to limit the damage
that could have been created by Brazil s actions, the United States had to make a smart move. As a
matter of fact, they decided to provide cottons to Brazilians rather than removing the subsidies. Over
150 Million in subsidies have been provided to the Brazilians, in 2010 so that Brazil do not impose
punitive measures (Cengage unit 7, 3). There exists both, pros and cons for subsidizing U.S. farmers.
In fact, US farmer strongly support subsidies claiming that it gives the US an important industry and
helps the regulations. However, subsidizing US farmers has some consequences. The cons argue that
subsidies provided to US agricultural producers create inefficiency in the global economy (unit 7).
Also, according to economists, subsidizing stands in the way of the economy growth

Aethelflaed King Alfred The Great
Blood and screams; the heart of the battlefield. The streets are running with blood, blood of the foolish
Vikings who thought they could attack the city of Chester. Who was the mastermind behind this
strategic victory? Some may not know who she was, but her name was Aethelflaed, Lady of the
Mercians. She was the daughter of King Alfred the Great and sister to King Edward the Elder. Born in
about 869 and married at 16 years to secure an alliance to the Wessex Kingdom, she rose to a
magnanimous position of power. She fought back the foreign invaders with her husband and later, her
brother. Aethelflaed defended her people by building fortifications, conquering opposing armies, and
creating alliances with other nations; she deserves to be remembered. Sequentially after driving back
foreign invaders, she would order the building of burhs, much like her father had. In 907, she and her
husband rebuilt the city ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

916 and 917, after the murder of an Abbot and his companions. Then, she moved north to Derby and
Leicester, successfully sieging the towns. By late 918, Aethelflaed had reached the River Humber, and

Who Remedios Varo Is By Inga Muscio
Throughout the art history, women have been involved in making art, whether as creators and
innovators of new forms of artistic expression, patrons, collectors, sources of inspiration, or significant
contributors as art historians and critics. Women have been and continue to be integral to the
institution of art, but despite being engaged with the art world in every way, many women artists have
found opposition in the traditional narrative of art history. They have faced challenges due to gender
biases, from finding difficulty in training to selling their work and gaining recognition. In Who
Remedios Varo Is , Inga Muscio argued this issue by suggesting that Remedios Varo, one of the top

But nowadays, women has become more powerful and even gradually take men s place in the art
world and gain more achievements for themselves. What have been changed throughout many years
of art history? Throughout the length of this essay, I will explore this problem by giving the brief view
about gender bias and the way it affects women artists in the art world from the past, then mainly
discuss about how women has overcome gender bias, in order to be succeeded in art world nowadays.
Gender bias is known as the inclination towards or the prejudice against one gender, which are women
in art world in this circumstance. This is an unequal treatment in employment opportunity, such as
privileges or benefits (Oxford dictionary). It is also known as women discrimination. According to
Inga Muscio, Remedios Varo did not receive the recognition she deserved because of the male social
system. The white, male portion gave them the authority to present art as an artist but not women.
Women did not have a right and had been excluded from the process of creating art (202). So, what
had happened in the 19th century, which prevented Muscio from gaining her recognition

The Impact Of Roman Military Reforms During The Late Republic
The five secondary sources chosen will express their reasonings for the Roman military reforms
during the Late Republic. Some sources will only state information of either the Maniple or Cohort
organization. All the sources will focus on the impact of the Roman military on its culture and society.
Wealth and social hierarchy was the fundamental factor in Roman life. Since the birth of the Roman
Republic, Rome established its military on class organization. The Maniple structure of the Roman
Military was determined by the age and wealth of an individual. Male Romans without the economic
surplus to buy arms would not be omitted into the legions of the Roman Republic. Free male citizens
could fight for the honor of defending Rome and their families. ... Show more content on

The new form of Cohort structure increased the number of recruitable soldiers and extended military
service by incorporating the lower classes of Plebeians into the Roman gears of war. Poor free citizens
could volunteer and become trained warriors, with arms and armor to equip themselves. The notion of
a professional military would be adopted by the Romans, known by modern scholars as the Cohort
structure. Gaius Marius would be the Roman general to push for a reform of the old Maniple structure.
He would become the primary inspiration for new military organization. The Cohort structure would
become the classical legion associated with the Roman Empire. Throughout the Late Republic and
Imperial Eras, Rome would expand to encompass the Mediterranean and Western Europe.
In the short book On the Wings of Eagles: The Reforms of Gaius Marius and the Creation of Rome s
First Professional Soldiers, by Christopher Anthony Matthew, general Gaius Marius instated reforms
and developments which would become the stable of Roman military structure. The main problem
Matthew is trying to solve is how much of the Marian reforms have on the military systems of Rome.

A Different History and Where I Come from Essay
Elizabeth Brewster and Sujata Bhatt both suggest the significance of place in helping to shape a
person s identity in their poems but they do it in different ways.
Brewster suggests that places change our identity when she writes People are made of places . This
shows that every different place we visit we take the memories and experiences that we had there and
keep them in our minds and hearts forever. Whereas Bhatt suggests that when we go to a new place we
forget who we previously were and change ourselves so that we fit in with the new culture that we are
living in. We know this from when she says And how does it happen/ that after the torture . This
shows the struggle to keep your cultural heritage when you move places.

In Where I Come From Brewster uses the metaphor ice and the breaking of ice . This is to show that
even though you are in a different place than you are used to you are ready to break the ice when
meeting new people and having new experiences. Bhatt suggests that you bring the conventions to the
country you move to from your old country and then you add to them from the things you learn in the
new culture that you are living in. We know this because she says Great Pan is not dead . This also
shows that your cultural heritage will never die as it will always be a part of you whether it s obvious
or not.
Elizabeth Brewster suggests that places change our identities when she says nature tidily plotted in
little squares . This gives us the impression that everyone in the city is the same and they are all neat
and tidy busybodies. This differs from what Bhatt suggests when she says Here, the gods roam freely,
/ disguised as snakes or monkeys . This shows that in India you can be whoever or whatever you want
without being judged by anyone and you can be unique.
However A Different History is similar to what Brewster is suggesting as Bhatt writes every tree is
sacred . This shows that everything and everyone is equal and has the same rights as each other.
Brewster shows that in her homeland everything is different because there are, battered

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close Literary Analysis
One of Foster s most fundamental theories from his book How to Read Literature Like a Professor is
that all stories grow out of other stories and that there s no such thing as a wholly original work of
literature (24). This theory is exemplified by Jonathan Safran Foer s novel Extremely Loud and
Incredibly Close, which grew out of J.D. Salinger s Catcher in the Rye.
Foer s novel parallels Salinger s novel in a multitude of ways. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly
Close, the protagonist Oskar Schell suffers from the loss of his father in the 9/11 terrorist attack. No

Social Taboos In A View From The Bridge
How does Miller engage with social taboos within A View from the Bridge?
Homosexuality, incest, tragic heroes; Arthur Miller may have written about familial relationships but
his plays are not for the whole family. His play A View from the Bridge depicts longshoreman Eddie
Carbone and family in Red Hook, Brooklyn as they house his wife s immigrant cousins, with whom
Eddie develops a rivalry resulting in his death. Miller juxtaposes Eddie s attitudes towards social
taboos to explore his contrasting morality, eliciting both pity and scorn to establish a tragic hero at the
centre of a modern tragedy. He achieves this by referencing homosexuality to demonstrate Eddie s
paranoia and exposing his incestuous desires to evoke disgust, accentuating ... Show more content on

The negative portrayal of Eddie as a proud, incestuous paranoiac is juxtaposed by the pity audiences
are made to feel at Eddie s situation. Although we are reminded that Eddie s downfall is self inflicted,
his situation is tragic because it could have been avoided, evoking both exasperation and pity. This
duality is amplified in the scene where Eddie kisses Catherine then Rodolpho, evoking sympathy for
his desperation but disgust at him kissing both his niece and another man, both social taboos. Eddie s
contrasting interactions with the social taboos of homosexuality and incest, one as a romantic gesture
and the other as an accusal, again portray him as both moral and immoral. Alfieri addresses this
dichotomy in his final lines, saying that Eddie was wrong and not purely good, but himself purely ,
which was why I mourn him I admit it with a certain... alarm . The contrast between the opposite
adjectives wrong and good and the chiasmus of the second above stated line highlight Eddie s duality.
Meanwhile, Alfieri s hesitation implicit in his use of the phrase I admit it and the following ellipsis
underline his conflicted thoughts, which are meant to mirror those of audiences. The fact that the latter
is the play s closing line demonstrates the importance of Eddie s

Google Technology Essay Technology has become inescapable. Whether you re in a store, at school,

On a personal level, technology has affected my own life by helping me maintain relationships,

Environmental Impacts Of The Marine Environment
Introduction
Problem Statement / Definition of Research Area
This research will look into the problems caused by fishing. Human impact has proved to threaten the
bio diversity of the marine environment. The environmental impact of fishing can be divided into
issues that involve the availability of fish to be caught, such as overfishing, sustainable fisheries, and
fisheries management; and issues that involve the impact of fishing on other elements of the
environment, such as by catch. This research is connected to sustainability, and will look into the
living and non living things that menace the fish in the sea, along with the care resolution that will
foster the marine environments feasible future.
Rationale
The indicated matter was selected for the sake of the marine environment and its beautiful importance.
A great deal of leisure time is devoted to fishing both on land and sea. I love the bio diversity of the
ocean and regard it as something that needs to be safeguarded.
This topic is also significant for my local community. The oceans species are all unique and many
people fish illegally and without caution, therefore we have an environmental responsibility in
maintaining sustainable practices. Thus, significantly exploring the living and nonliving factors
alarming the ocean including the current policies enforced toward safeguarding the ocean is important.
Research Questions
1) What is overfishing?
2) What are the causes of overfishing?
3) How effective have the

Violent change that is political in nature also arises through the character of Hotspur in the play, King

Hotspur believes that King Henry IV by not providing ransom for his brother in law, Mortimer is

Film Analysis Of Jim Jarmusch s Mystery Train
In the multi language comedic drama Mystery Train, the analysis of narrative vs narration, character
motivation, goals, narrative complexity, as well as other techniques such as colour, sound and mise en
scene are useful tools that help the audience understand the social commentary and meaning that
underlies the film.
Mystery Train is a 1989 film directed by Jim Jarmusch as part of an independent anthology of films.
This movie and the others in the anthology feature a strong travel aspect and represents America as a
peculiar land of many strangers and stories. Mystery Train has a more complex narrative structure
then Jarmusch s previous films, he described his intent for the film as episodic but simultaneous . This
was achieved by showing the film from 3 different points of views that occupy the same space and
time, all of which are connected by the same hotel and a gunshot. The events take place
simultaneously but are presented sequentially.
The first part of the narrative follows Japanese tourist couple Mitzuko and Jun and opens with them
listening to Mystery Train by Elvis Presley as their train arrives in Memphis. The rock and roll fans
are in town to visit Sun Studio, Graceland and other Elvis related landmarks. After which, they stop at
a hotel for the night and later turn on the radio to hear Blue Moon by Elvis as they go to sleep. The
following morning as the couple is getting ready to leave the hotel they hear a gunshot.

SAP chose to use its connection to customers as a tool to be more innovative. One of the important
decisions was made because they also had to overcome problems with cultural challenges. This is why
they used the locations to satisfy the reginal demands, and spread its R D labs globally, instead of
centralizing near to headquarters. SAP opened development labs in high tech areas such as Silicon
Valley in order to leverage the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, as well as the rich ecosystem of
the venture companies, startups and academic institutions.
Martin Stork also said that As a company on your own, you will never be really innovative and he
meant that SAP s co innovation labs constituted the third pillar of their R D network. They have
located six co innovation labs, in India, United States, Brazil, South Korea, Japan and to the
headquarters in Walldorf, Germany. They named their global Co Innovation Lab as COIL and were
having as key goals of network:

Battle of Fort Sumter Essay
Fort Sumter is located in Charleston, South Carolina. The fort is in Charleston s harbor. The fort was
not even complete when war broke out. This was a big turning point for the United States of America.
It separated the north from the south and in some cases it separated families. This war would impact
how the United States saw slavery. It is the most deadly war that the United States has every seen in
its history.
It all began with the secession of South Carolina. After this an understanding was established between
the authorities in Washington and the members of Congress from South Carolina. They both agreed
that the forts, Fort Moultrie and Fort Sumter, would not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Headquarters Provisional Army, C.S.A.
Charleston, April 11, 1861
Sir; The government of the Confederate States has hitherto foreborne from any hostile demonstrations
against Fort Sumter, in hope that the government of the United States with a view to the amicable
adjustment of all questions between the two governments, and to avert the calamities of war would
voluntarily evacuate it.
There was reason at one time to believe that such would be the course pursued by the government of
the United States, and under that impression my government has refrained from making any demand

Disadvantages Of 3PL
1. Third party logistics 3PL
The term 3PL means third party logistics. A 3PL provider does not produce a product, but handles all
aspects of supply chain such as transportation, warehousing, inventory control, distribution, financial
services, and etc. for another company s product.
2. Reasons to employ 3PL instead of using in house logistics service
i) Companies can focus on their core competencies which should be production. ii) Companies can
significantly cut investment on logistics associated assets as well as liability. A customer does not have
to use in house and any logistics assets. iii) Companies can reduce shipping costs. By gathering the
shipping volume of all of its customers and consolidation, a 3PL can bargain better ... Show more

terms. viii) Customer portal access. Most 3PLs have software enabling their customers to have access
to their websites. This lets their customers to see all of their shipments in progress at any time. ix)
Supply chain analysis. 3PLs can provide insight to shipping patterns as well as distribution work
improving optimal efficiency.
x) 3PLs give distribution centers in different locations which will eventually decrease a company
investment. xi) Owing to the Exxon Valdez disaster, oil companies have been withdrawing their
ownership of tankers but employing 3PLs to minimize their exposure to lawsuits.

The Contribution Of Galileo
Galileo Galilei, an Italian scientist, made groundbreaking observations that contributed to modern
physics and astronomy. Galileo established mathematics as the language of scientific discovery. He
founded the scientific method and helped establish the modern practice of experimentation and
calculated laws of nature.
In July of 1609, Galileo developed his own telescope and with it, he made several astronomical
discoveries. For example, Galileo discovered that the surface of the moon is rough and uneven as
opposed to smooth as people had thought. Galileo also discovered with his telescope that many more
stars exist than are visible to the naked eye. According to author E.B., Galileo also found sunspots
upon the surface of our star and discovered the phases of Venus, which confirmed that the planet
circles the sun inside Earth s own orbit (45).
Galileo was also curious about how things move, and this curiosity led to important discoveries in
physics. For instance, he questioned the then current belief that heavy objects fall faster than light
ones. In order to refute this, Galileo did many experiments. For example, it is said that he dropped two
different weights from the Tower of Pisa to show that they hit the ground at the same time, a
demonstration that paved the way for Isaac Newton s Laws of Motion. Galileo also tested his theory
by rolling balls down an inclined plane at various angles. These experiments lead to Galileo s the law
of falling bodies. This law states that all objects will fall at an equal rate when accounting for
relatively minor differences in aerodynamics and weather conditions.
Another discovery Galileo made with regards to motion was about the pendulum. The author of An
Inquisitive Mind Kim Zarins wrote about the experiment:
Galileo made two pendulums with string of equal lengths and a lead ball at the end of each. Then he
pulled one ball back twice as far as the other, and let them both go at the same time. He expected to
see the ball with the longer swing take a longer time to move back and forth. In fact, both pendulums
moved in perfect synchronization! They swung at the same rate, even though one pendulum was
moving twice as far and one ball was heavier than the other (41).

Our generation s drug use and teen pregnancy rates are at an all time low, we re eating smarter and
exercising more than our parents. Teenagers feel more compelled to change the status quo, challenge
social norms, our eager minds crave producing a global difference, and we re sharing outspoken
political views online, which destroys the, don t talk about politics in public mantra. Resultantly, we
have a higher tolerance for diversity as our exchange in opinions enhances our global perspective.
Additionally, we have a remarkably impressive social mindset that s committed to generating equality
in every sense, as we understand the importance in appreciating diversity, to accept tattoos and gender
neutral behaviours. This shift in teen mentality is a direct product of finer education. Young minds are
enlightened through social awareness about Indigenous issues, the BLM movement, gender gaps, rape
culture and sexual freedom to list a few. Furthermore, students today are academically thriving as

Planet Of Slums By Mike Davis
In the book, Planet of Slums Mike Davis discusses, why there are mast migration from the rural
villages to the megacities of the Third World. What megacities are is a city when the total population
in it exceeds over eight million. He also discusses how the treason of the state, international banks and
the ideas thinkers like Hernando de Soto makes the lives of people in the urban south much worse.
Urban south are cities like Mexico City, Delhi, Dhaka, Cairo, Beijing, Lima and etc (Davis 4) that
experience in major increase in population by more than ten times its size from 1950 to 2004, it is
cities in the third world. Mike Davis believed that, the government, international banks and thinkers
such as Hernando de Soto are the one responsible for making the condition in the urban south terrible
for the poor while good only for the officials and the rich.
Mike Davis says that after 1950, people moved from villages to the cities despite knowing that the
condition in those cities are bad. [In urban south people are poor and hungry so they do any job to
make money. Such as, picking up cigarette bud, selling body parts, and etc]An example that, Mike
Davis gives is why the population in the cities at china is increasing.
It is, instead, the small to medium sized cities and recently city ized towns that have absorbed the
majority of the rural labor power made redundant by post 1979 market reforms. In part, this is the
result of conscious planning: since the 1970s the

Brown and his family moved to Osawatomie Kansas, he bought land and had a farm. In 1856 the town
of Lawrence which was near where they lived was fiercely attacked and burned by men who were

As time passes by, children grow up, and reach a point where they have to make decisions for their
future. Most of them will go to college, but it is their choice to make a big jump to success or have a
bad attitude to everything and waste the rest of their lives. I, a seventeen year old student, was stuck in
a world of choices, and did not know which way to go. Since I was not a very good student at school,
everybody advised me to enroll in an easy to get admitted to college in Vietnam. As a stubborn girl, I
objected to that, and made a big decision that surprised all of them: to apply for the APU scholarship
to study abroad.

time job in the admission office of APU as an online consultant is what I want to do to help the
candidates like me. I once had a Skype session with a student from APU named Bek, and the session
went quite well. He gave me some advice for my essays, the interview, and some information about
part time jobs for international students. That helped me a lot. Furthermore, as a student studies about
Asia Pacific region, participating in Multicultural events such as Thai Week, and Indonesian Week not
only interests me, but also will give me the chance to understand more about the Asian culture.
Besides, since I am partial to performing, singing, and dancing at high school, attending the Latin
American African Dance Club, and the Chorus Club is a chance I will take to develop my hobbies,
and relieve stress after class.
After graduating from APU, I want to stay in Japan, and work for the Vietnam Television Channel

about the Vietnamese living in Japan, but also to know more about the Japanese culture, and meet and

Why Pro Choice Is The Right Choice

National Issues Paper
Why Pro Choice is the Right Choice Abortion is a hot topic in United States politics as of late, and
rightly so. Though religion, costs, maternal psychological damage, and societal morality are often
cited as reasons to oppose abortion, a woman s right to make her own decisions should always prevail.
Abortion should be nationally legalized during the first trimester of pregnancy because Roe V. Wade
has declared abortion a fundamental right to women, fetuses are incapable of feeling pain during the
period when most abortions take place, women should be given the right to choose what happens with
their body, and access to legal abortions decreases the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The code went on to say that even the attempt of an abortion, successful or otherwise, should be
punished in the same sense. The only stipulation was that an abortion may be performed if done with
medical advice to save the life of the mother. Roe believed that these statutes were unconstitutionally
vague, and challenged them in the Supreme Court on grounds of Constitutionality.
Using the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth amendments, Roe set out to get the laws struck
down. The most important of her arguments were in the fourteenth and ninth amendments, where she
argued that all people had a right to privacy under the fourteenth amendment s concept of personal
liberty and restrictions on state action, and the ninth amendment s concept of reserved rights to the
people. The court ruled in Roe s favor, voiding Texas s abortion laws. The official decision of the
court, written by Justice Harry Blackmun, cites reasons of vagueness, and using precedent set by 1891
case Union Pacific R. Co. v. Botsford, where the supreme court upheld and recognized a right of
personal privacy. In justifying this decision, Blackmun stated that, In varying contexts, the Court or
individual Justices have, indeed, found at least the roots of that right in the First Amendment; in the

  • 4. Wealthy Nations Have A Moral Obligation to Educate Poor... The most substantial and important ethical problem of the 21st century will be the correction of the vast and undeniable imbalance of the possession and consumption of the world s material, economic, and cultural resources. In this paper, I will argue that the primary long term moral obligation the world s over privileged have to the underprivileged is to provide those in need with the means necessary to develop a foundation for fair future interactions. This will lead to the idea that a necessary part of the long term obligation to the underprivileged, in addition to the redistribution of economic and material resources, is the redistribution of ideas and knowledge through philanthropic educational programs. The principle I will use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It feels a bit awkward to present an argument for the simple and intuitive conclusion that the world s over privileged have an obligation to help improve the lives of those in serious need. However, I do think it is helpful to give such an argument for two reasons. First, simply recognizing that there is a moral obligation to fulfill leaves many crucial issues untouched. The majority of the relevant work consists of designing and implementing programs of assistance that fulfill the moral obligations which are recognized. Making clear the nature and motivation of obligations informs the choices made in designing and implementing meaningful programs of assistance. Stating clearly the moral principle on which I think the obligation to the world s underprivileged rests will lead to my argument that programs of assistance must include the redistribution of ideas and knowledge. Second, I think that there are interesting objections to the commitment to such an obligation. I do not think it wise to dismiss such views out of hand. Ultimately, I will dismiss such views as a whole, but will allow their arguments to point my views and moral intuitions in better directions. I will now consider two such objections. Objection 1 I imagine that many of the world s over privileged who do not feel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The knee joint consists of four ligaments, two intra capsular which are the ACL and the PCL and two extra capsular ligaments including the MCL and LCL. The ACL is an extremely strong stabiliser which prevents anterior displacement of the knee. The ACL is a ligament and therefore connects one bone to another, the femur with the tibia. The ACLs origin is from the anterior intercondylar eminence of the tibia (home,2017) and the fibres pass upwards, backward and laterally inserting into the lateral condyle of the femur. Characteristics of ACL Injuries ACL injuries used to be seen as career ending injuries 50 years ago, however, throughout the years with the advancement in technology aiding treatment and rehabilitation procedures. Yet they are still sever and take months to recover. This is because of the precise location of the ligament within the knee joint. Resulting in no blood clot formation within the joint as a consequence scar tissue will not form and the tissue will just be filled with uncontrolled blood leading to swelling an pain within the joint (ACL reconstruction Oxford university hospital, 2017) which is why it takes between 9 to 12 months for recovery. Merton Model Of Social Deviance Merton, (1938) model of social deviance desires to refute Freudians and similar theorists that hypothesize biological abnormalities as a valid explanation for deviance. Their theory further posits that institutions only exist to channel deviance through some form of utilitarian calculus or unreasoned conditioning (p. 680). That is, using punishment to deter deviance rather using it as a form of retribution. Merton, instead, wants to articulate how institutions can itself prompt deviance, and sustain a significant degree of control over it. He proposes a 2 phase model (673) on how society structures individual behavior: the first phase is the cultural goal , the putative end for which we ought to struggle. Rather, these postmodernists focus on the fragmented and heterogeneous nature of our culture, to suggest that punks are not so much engaging in resistance but ironically reflecting the culture, they putatively oppose themselves. That television, radio, magazines, pamphlets, virtual media such as the Internet (Stahl, 1999) helps to create and prolong subculture. Instead, for postmodernists, this intense codependence of subculture members of the media indicates how closely punks embody our present, media obsessed moment. A structuralist neo Marxist account of punks was that they were enacting genuine resistance and disaffection of society. But, as refigured by postmodern theorists as a form of subcultural capital, an alternative hierarchy in which the axes of age, gender, sexuality and race are all employed in order to keep the determinations of class, income and occupation at bay (Stahl, 1999). • 8. Nuclear Power And Nuclear Waste Nuclear power, the type of energy that sits on the edge of humanity s greatest hopes, and its darkest fears. With a country such as the United States continuing to expand its industry, housing, agriculture and commercial buildings there is a need for more and more energy each year. Nuclear power is one of the many ways the United States gets its energy. Nevertheless, it is one of the most controversial means of energy production. The main concern with nuclear energy is the nuclear waste that is produced along with it. The potential health and environmental risks posed by nuclear waste is what truly scares some of the American public. Therefore, is the amount of energy output by nuclear power plants outweigh the potential risks that nuclear waste can have on human health and the environment? Nuclear power plants should be kept as a means of generating energy for the United States, however, transportation and storage of nuclear waste needs to continuously be checked for safer alternatives. Nuclear waste is generally defined as a variety of solids, liquids and gases which are produced during the generation of nuclear energy through the process of fission, mining of Uranium, nuclear research and weapons production (Shah, Abhishek). Nuclear waste created by a nuclear power plant is not as complicated as one might think. First water is heated in the reactor when uranium atoms split and cause fission, then the heated water is transferred to the primary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the intent was to keep the armed forces of South Korea well trained against a possible war, poor U.S. military aid and use of U.S. advisors were not enough to keep its forces and eventually, they were under trained and under supported (Cumings 6). In the National Security Council report of 2 April 1948, The Position of the U.S. with Respect to Korea, American government extended the aid, training, and equipping the Korean armed forces only with an intent to keep its forces capable of protecting the security of South Korea against any but an overt act of aggression by North Korean or other forces (Tucker 808). The Truman administration at the time believed that the South Korean President Syngman Rhee, who was known for constantly threatening the U.S. with bukgin slogans (march north), might use the heavy weapons to unify Korea by force, creating tensions between neighboring nations such as the USSR. This led American government decision to keep South Korea in check by keeping its military capability as minimal as possible (Leckie 36). Well slaves were permitted to take part in the war. Slaves fought in both sides, over 179,00 African Americans were part of the Civil war serving in over 160 units (3). One person may view the intense admiration of a suitor as normal while another could view it as possessive. Extreme passion and unrequited love could result in obsession behavior. Mad Girl s Love Song by Sylvia Plath and End of the Road by Boyz II Men are two pieces of literature which share the theme of obsessive love. Sylvia Plath uses dark images throughout the poem to convey her emotions. The song overall touches upon the theme of obsession in the sense that in the first stanza the speaker stresses Girl you know we belong together [...]/ You ll be mine forever, baby, you just see (1 3) and continues to say Although we ve come to the end of the road [...]/ It s unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to you (16 18). • 13. Albert Bandura Girls And Social Learning Theory Of Aggression Let s shift our focus to what Albert Bandura mainly studied, aggression. Specifically, females. The article Girls and physical aggression: Causes, trends, and intervention guided by Social Learning Theory explores females becoming the perpetrators of physical aggression (Snethen, Puymbroeck 2008). They apply the Social Learning Theory of Aggression as their basis to examine the growing occurrences of violence in females, society and popular culture. They propose that females taking part in physical aggression is becoming very common, they claim it may be due to environmental changes (Snethen, Puymbroeck 2008). Females are defenseless from a variety of sources, such as the media, family and the community. Nonetheless, according to Bandura s SLT exposure only provides the knowledge and increased acceptance of physical aggression (Snethen, Puymbroeck 2008). For the aggressiveness to be triggered the individual must get emotionally affected, which leads them to want to gain status and power. Hence, aggression will only be ongoing if there is a reinforcement (Snethen, Puymbroeck 2008). The three main types of reinforcements are direct, vicarious, and self reinforcement. To effectively help females, the researchers came up with two solutions, one being that the entire community should help prevent aggressive behavior in females. Secondly, since prevention will not aid those now affected girls they suggest planning an implementation of treatment specifically for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Laura P. Claridge s essay Parent Child Tensions in Frankenstein attempts to convince readers that certain characters (Victor, the monster, and Walton) are examples of what happens to children who are not parented correctly. One of the main contributing factors was the lack of a fair hierarchy in the French society. There were 3 main classes and only 3% of people were inside of the top 2. This created a problem as the first 2 had twice the representation that the third did in the government. The first Estate was made up of the clergy from the Roman Catholic Church. They also owned almost 10% of the land inside of France. The Second Estate was the rich nobles. They owned almost 20% of the land. They were extremely unhappy and they stormed the Tuileries where the royal family was being held. They wanted a new constitution and a convention instead of a national assembly. ISO intends to help standardize the quality and safety of products bought and sold between two companies, either domestic or abroad. In fact, Heizer Render (2014) stated the move towards global supply chains has placed so much emphasis on quality that the world has united around a single quality standard, ISO 9000 (p. 210). ISO compliance has become the gold standard for businesses. It is like wearing a badge of honor that proclaims any company that wears it will ensure a minimum level of quality and safety for its entire product line. Before the onset of ISO, quality between companies was difficult to maintain as so many companies in different countries had varying degrees of quality control. A million certificates earned, in 178 countries worldwide, demonstrates the impact of ISO on global trade. The Benefits of International Standardization? Corporations that wish to become global manufacturers, such as Boeing or Lockheed Martin, may be wary of quality control and safety practices of a company it has never done business with. For operations managers, it should be important to deliver safe and quality products as well as receive the same level of product from other companies (Heizer Render, 2014). ISO did not exist pre 1947; therefore, trading between companies posed a risk of poor quality goods. Without global standardization, one company s definition of quality may be vastly different than another. The formation of ISO and its standardization has created a certain level of confidence in global commerce. A company can pledge its commitment to quality and safety by earning an ISO certification. Consequently, fewer quality issues will result in increased productivity. According to ISO, it helps companies gain access new markets, level the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brazil filed a lawsuit against the United Stated in the World Trade Organization Dispute (WTO) Settlement System arguing that the subsidies the United States provided to US farmers violated WTO trade agreements and gave US farmers unfair advantages (Unit 7, lesson 5). Fortunately for Brazil, the World Trade Organization agreed with their claim and authorized them to take punitive measures against the United States (Cengage unit 7, 3). As a result of that authorization, Brazil decided to impose tariffs and lift patent protections on US goods (Cengage unit 7, 3). In order to limit the damage that could have been created by Brazil s actions, the United States had to make a smart move. As a matter of fact, they decided to provide cottons to Brazilians rather than removing the subsidies. Over 150 Million in subsidies have been provided to the Brazilians, in 2010 so that Brazil do not impose punitive measures (Cengage unit 7, 3). There exists both, pros and cons for subsidizing U.S. farmers. In fact, US farmer strongly support subsidies claiming that it gives the US an important industry and helps the regulations. Whether you re in a store, at school, or even at church, there s technology all around you being used in many different ways. It s changed the way we live our everyday lives, whether we notice it or not. Technology is used to check you out at the grocery store, it allows you to pass in your assignment at eleven fifty nine the night before it s due, it even has given our soldiers the ability to walk again, but do these good impacts overshadow our ability to see its negative impacts? And if the good truly does overshadow the bad, is that okay? On a personal level, technology has affected my own life by helping me maintain relationships, possibly hindering my reading ability, and by becoming a necessity for everyday life. It s become infectious, not only for me, but for the majority of its users. The question is though, is this constant use really hurting us, and if so, are we ready to stop it? Technology, specifically the internet and social media networks, has allowed us to connect with people from anywhere, whenever we want. This ability to connect has allowed me to maintain relationships that I might not have been able to maintain otherwise. As I have moved around the state several times during the entirety of my childhood, I don t see the people I want to as much as I wish. Like Evie and V s revolt, Hotspur, through the rebel camp, similarly enacts a revolt against the established governmental power by specifically, trying to kill King Henry IV. As with the other examples, Hotspur does this for personal reasons related to past events. For instance, Hotspur believes that King Henry IV by not providing ransom for his brother in law, Mortimer is consequently, not properly repaying his family for their previous assistance to King Henry IV s ascension to the throne. Mystery Train is a 1989 film directed by Jim Jarmusch as part of an independent anthology of films. This movie and the others in the anthology feature a strong travel aspect and represents America as a peculiar land of many strangers and stories. Mystery Train has a more complex narrative structure then Jarmusch s previous films, he described his intent for the film as episodic but simultaneous . This was achieved by showing the film from 3 different points of views that occupy the same space and time, all of which are connected by the same hotel and a gunshot. The events take place simultaneously but are presented sequentially. The first part of the narrative follows Japanese tourist couple Mitzuko and Jun and opens with them listening to Mystery Train by Elvis Presley as their train arrives in Memphis. The rock and roll fans are in town to visit Sun Studio, Graceland and other Elvis related landmarks. After which, they stop at a hotel for the night and later turn on the radio to hear Blue Moon by Elvis as they go to sleep. • 45. The Contribution Of Galileo Galileo Galilei, an Italian scientist, made groundbreaking observations that contributed to modern physics and astronomy. Galileo established mathematics as the language of scientific discovery. He founded the scientific method and helped establish the modern practice of experimentation and calculated laws of nature. In July of 1609, Galileo developed his own telescope and with it, he made several astronomical discoveries. For example, Galileo discovered that the surface of the moon is rough and uneven as opposed to smooth as people had thought. Galileo also discovered with his telescope that many more stars exist than are visible to the naked eye. According to author E.B., Galileo also found sunspots upon the surface of our star and discovered the phases of Venus, which confirmed that the planet circles the sun inside Earth s own orbit (45). Galileo was also curious about how things move, and this curiosity led to important discoveries in physics. For instance, he questioned the then current belief that heavy objects fall faster than light ones. In order to refute this, Galileo did many experiments. For example, it is said that he dropped two different weights from the Tower of Pisa to show that they hit the ground at the same time, a demonstration that paved the way for Isaac Newton s Laws of Motion. Galileo also tested his theory by rolling balls down an inclined plane at various angles. These experiments lead to Galileo s the law of falling bodies. This law states that all objects will fall at an equal rate when accounting for relatively minor differences in aerodynamics and weather conditions. Another discovery Galileo made with regards to motion was about the pendulum. The author of An Inquisitive Mind Kim Zarins wrote about the experiment: Galileo made two pendulums with string of equal lengths and a lead ball at the end of each. Then he pulled one ball back twice as far as the other, and let them both go at the same time. He expected to see the ball with the longer swing take a longer time to move back and forth. In fact, both pendulums moved in perfect synchronization! They swung at the same rate, even though one pendulum was moving twice as far and one ball was heavier than the other (41). ... Niek AP United States Government Pd. #3 05/22/17 National Issues Paper Why Pro Choice is the Right Choice Abortion is a hot topic in United States politics as of late, and rightly so. Though religion, costs, maternal psychological damage, and societal morality are often cited as reasons to oppose abortion, a woman s right to make her own decisions should always prevail. Abortion should be nationally legalized during the first trimester of pregnancy because Roe V. Wade has declared abortion a fundamental right to women, fetuses are incapable of feeling pain during the period when most abortions take place, women should be given the right to choose what happens with their body, and access to legal abortions decreases the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The code went on to say that even the attempt of an abortion, successful or otherwise, should be punished in the same sense. The only stipulation was that an abortion may be performed if done with medical advice to save the life of the mother. Roe believed that these statutes were unconstitutionally vague, and challenged them in the Supreme Court on grounds of Constitutionality. Using the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Fourteenth amendments, Roe set out to get the laws struck down. The most important of her arguments were in the fourteenth and ninth amendments, where she argued that all people had a right to privacy under the fourteenth amendment s concept of personal liberty and restrictions on state action, and the ninth amendment s concept of reserved rights to the people. The court ruled in Roe s favor, voiding Texas s abortion laws. The official decision of the court, written by Justice Harry Blackmun, cites reasons of vagueness, and using precedent set by 1891 case Union Pacific R. Co. v. Botsford, where the supreme court upheld and recognized a right of personal privacy. In justifying this decision, Blackmun stated that, In varying contexts, the Court or individual Justices have, indeed, found at least the roots of that right in the First Amendment; in the Fourth and ...
