Textual Analysis Water For Chocolate
In the chapter of January in the novel Water For Chocolate the recipe and the dish of what Tita makes
relates to the content in the chapter numerous times. In the recipe hard rolls are used to wrap up the
rolls. Hard rolls can mean a various amount of things like the hard rolls represent the hardships in the
chapter and the situations that were hard to deal with or overcome. These representations were
inferred by pages 8,11, 12 and 13. On page 8 Tita is punished for burning Rosaura s hand by accident
and is spanked by Mama Elena and forbidden to play with her sisters ever again but; Nacha decided to
cheer up Tita by being her new playmate. On pages 11 13 Mama Elena tells Tita she cannot be married
to Pedro because she is supposed to take care of her when she becomes old. When Tita attempts to
reason with Mama Elena she rules her out as being disrespectful and rebellious. But, Mama Elena
offers Tita s older sister Rosaura and Pedro agrees but secretly is marrying to become closer to Tita. ...

The representations inferred can also be found in the book as textual evidence from the pages 6 and
11. On page 6 when Tita is born Tita is said to be crying nonstop to the point where they made bags of
salt from her tears. On pages 11 Tita is begins to cry when Mama Elena tells her that Tita s opinion
doesn t matter and that she will do what she says. The ingredient chiles serranos represents the fiery,
romantic relationship between Tita and Pedro shown on page 18 and 19. Those pages both show Pedro
and Tita admitting their love to each other. The ingredient sardines represents the stench of sinful acts
between Pedro and Tita going behind Rosaura s back and keeping everything secret. This act can be
seen on page 19 how Tita and Pedro agree to keep it secret and not tell Rosaura in addition, Tita says

Oscar Jacobson, who was also an art professor for the university, founded the Fred jones Jr. museum
of art in 1936 (Wikipedia 2016). The museum is home to over ten thousand beautiful and very
valuable pieces of art, including sculptures, paintings, and even some books. Recently, the museum
had a collection of busts from the Immortales collection in Rome. This was the first time that many of
these pieces have ever left Italy and was the only place in the United States that they have been.
Whenever you are approaching the museum from the main entrance you are greeted by a beautiful
bronze sculpture entitled Sphinx . The piece was designed and cast by Columbian artist Fernando
Botero, who is known for his often oversized cartoon like creations. ... Show more content on

I felt as though it was just a completely different setup, the mahogany wood did not fit well with the
plain white stonewalls of the rest of the exhibits. It was also set up as if it was a house with couches
and tables but they were not for sitting on and so it just takes up space. It can be distracting from
actual paintings displayed there. However, other then the distractions the mahogany wood was
beautiful. It almost transported the viewers into a different time period. It was a weird choice when
compared to the rest of the museum, but if you were to examine just those two rooms by their selves
then you can appreciate the effort took in designing the setup. The last thing that has not been
addressed with the critique is the setup of the gift shop, however, I personally did not get the
opportunity to look into the gift shop so I can not comment on its setup, but if the gift shop is anything
like the rest of the museum then I am sure that it is a nice store with great products for sale. In
conclusion, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is a wonderful example of an art museum. It is one of
the nicest museums in the country on a college campus. The museum also is always free, free
admission to such a huge collection of artwork is not something that happens very often and we are
blessed as a university to

Eduardo Quintana Case
Abstract
This research paper is going to focus mainly in the process followed by Officer Bird during a traffic
violation that led to the arrest of the suspect named Alejandro Quintana. The analysis of the two sides
of the coin, the officer and the suspect taken into custody is of main interest in this case. There are a
variety of steps to be followed prior to an arrest. The officer/investigator should be responsible for any
action taken towards an individual who is about to or being processed. In the particular case of
Alejandro Quintana, officer Bird executed the arrest of a suspect that clearly was suspicious utilizing
probable cause and plain view search in order to arrest him and seize the evidence. Mr. Quintana s

Bird could have not searched the trunk of Mr. Quintana s car even if she thought he was hiding
something from the law. According to Swanson et, al. (2014), the Supreme Court ruled I the 1981 case
New York v. Belton that when a police officer makes a lawful custodial arrest of the occupant of an
automobile, the officer may search the vehicle s passenger compartment as a contemporaneous
incident of arrest...The right to search includes any open or closed containers found in the passenger
compartment...It does not include the trunk (Swanson et, al. 2014), p.30). The arrest of Mr. Quintana
gives the officer the right to search the passenger s side but not the car s trunk. Officer Bird couldn t
be able to legally search Mr. Quintana s car trunk without and issued search warrant on the motor
vehicle s trunk. According to (Decker, 1999), The purpose of a warrant is to allow a neutral judicial
officer to assess whether the police have probable cause to make an arrest or conduct a search
(Decker, 1999, para.2). This one reason provides an even field for the suspect and the police officer,
giving the judge issuing the warrant the decision making process of whether or not permitting the
prosecution of the individual who can be innocent by an officer unlawfully

Sarojini Naidu Essay
Poetry is a pleasure giving medium. This medium is handled by different poets in the world. Most of
the poets in India present their poetry in their mother tongue only. Those who present poetry in
languages other their own have not succeeded so well as Sarojini Naidu.
There are not many in India who have written poetry in English. Among them, Sarojini Naidu stands
first. Her poems are praised not only in India, but all over the world.
Though she has written poems on religion, country, women s freedom, etc., her poems on nature
occupy the first place in her poetry. Even in sorrow, her nature poems glow with a touch of her
suffering.
Sarojini Naidu was a distinguished poet, renowned freedom fighter and one of the great orators of her
time. She was famously known as Bharatiya Kokila (The Nightingale of India). Sarojini Naidu was
the first Indian woman to become the President of the Indian National Congress and the first woman
to become the governor of a state in India.

How Did The Second Great Awakening Influence On American...
During the time of the second great awakening, the United States underwent a extensive flowering of
religious sects and unprecedented expansion of church memberships. Many preachers had emphasized
sin and damnation, while other preachers emphasized God s love and devotion to save souls from hell.
Just as the First Great Awakening had a religious movement in America, the Second Great Awakening
followed in the same footsteps. The religious excitement that was the Second Great Awakening
created a positive impact in the United States, emphasizing the democratization of American
Protestantism as well as removing barriers of race, class, gender, and age. The Second Great

They had better working conditions, better pay, and nicer living conditions along with immigration

The Westley Croup Score Analysis
The following discussion will be based on a 2year 4month old male who attended the Children s
Emergency Department (ED), accompanied by his mother. The clerking and assessment were
performed by a trainee a Children s Advanced Nurse Practitioner (CANP) with the consent of the
accompanying mother. For the purpose of this discussion and to maintain confidentiality the male
child will be referred to as patient A (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2015)
Due to the child s age and developmental stage, the history was obtained from asking the mother a
combination of open and closed questions, the open questions allows the parent time to speak, as this
may reveal many issues without having to ask specific questions (Bedwani et al. 2011). Duderstadt

only including children with a croup score of 2, they found that giving a dose of oral dexamethasone
0.15mg/kg was effective in reducing the return for medical treatment compared to the placebo. This
evidence is supported by a more recent trial by Candice et al. (2004), although their dose size was the
higher 0.6mg/kg of dexamethasone, the trial only included those children with a croup score of less
than 2, this trial also included looking at secondary outcomes such as loss of sleep and stress on the
family, as well as the primary outcome measure of returning for medical treatment, all of these
outcomes were shown to be reduced in the first 24 hours post treatment of dexamethasone. This
evidence is further supported by a systematic review by Russell et al. (2011) looking at treating all
severities of croup with glucocorticoids, with results stating that there were fewer return visits and the
length of time spent in A E was reduced in those treated with glucocorticoids. The results from the
Geelhoed et al. (1996) trial are highly applicable for this case study, as the treatment given is
dexamethasone 0.15mg/kg and the subjects are children with only mild croup. As the other trials have
concluded a reduction in croup score

The Physics Of Magnetic Field
When a wire with current flowing through it, is placed in a magnetic field a force is placed on the
wire: this is the motor principle and this is the principle behind the loud speaker. Hello, My name is
Michael Trevorrow and you will be learning about the loud speaker and electromagnetism.
But first, if you want to understand the loud speaker you have to understand electromagnetism. Well
electromagnetism is simply the phenomenon of the interaction of electric currents or fields and
magnetic fields . This will become clearer later. All right the loud speaker we all know what they look
like, but we don t know how they work. When things shake or vibrate, they produce a sound. If a coil
is wrapped around a magnet, the coil now becomes an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The formula for a solenoid is B=u0nl, where n is the number of coils and I is the current. Being able to
show the strength, will show the loudness because the current flow alters the frequency and altering
the current flow will make the solenoid field larger.
Coils and changing direction
A conductor, copper, is tightly wrapped around a magnet to make a magnetic field. But how does this
create sound? The coil has a current flowing through it the coil moves and the polar orientation
reverses. When this is reversed it allows the magnetic forces between the coil and this allows the coil
to move up and down the magnet, which creates sound. The magnetic field can be increased by
putting more coils around the magnetic which leads to larger sound.
Current
Current is the driving force which causes the diaphragm acceleration. Current is a flow of electricity
which results from the ordered directional movement of electrically charged particles. In simple terms
current is the flow of electricity throughout the coil. Current is how we can change the frequency or
sound pitch of the speaker, by altering voltage it will change the current. Now we know what happens
inside a speaker, lets have a look at the magnets involved. Electromagnet (coil

Heracles Versus Eurytheus In Homer s Odyssey
Hercules, or better known as Heracles, was a Greek demigod that is the Son of Zeus and a mortal
woman that was named Alcmene. When he was an infant, Zeus s wife Hera was really jealous of
Heracles, so she sent two snakes to kill him. She was unsuccessful however, as he enjoyed strangling
the snakes to death with one in each arm. He grew to become proficient in the bow and arrow, became
a great wrestler, and possess superhuman strength. He later married and had five children. But, Hera
tried to strike Heracles with madness and was successful. While Heracles was full with madness, he
killed his five children all at once, in one day. When he recovered from his madness, he ventured to

This was the final labor that Eurystheus made Heracles do, but it was the worst. At this point
Eurytheus was furious at Heracles for his amazing success performing the tasks at hand. So he tried to
make the last one almost nearly impossible. After Eurytheus told Heracles to do that task, he had to
research how to get in at eleuis just to find out how to get there without killing himself. In order to get
to the Underworld, you had only a couple of options. You either had the option to die, or get help from
the gods or goddess who could help you enter the underworld by certain caves or chasms. He decided
to choose Taenarum in Laconia. He traveled to Southern Greece and entered the Portal. Once he got
through, he faced Charon a boatman in the Underworld. He would only ferry people across if they met
two prerequisites. They had to be dead and pay a fare to get across, which Heracles qualified for none
of them. At the gate, Charon noticed him which aggravated him. He could tell that he didn t die and
started to glower at him. But Heracles just glowered back in return. The stare that Heracles gave was
even worse than Charon s. Now fearing him Charon let Heracles across to the underworld. The
biggest challenge that Heracles faced was to capture Cerberus. Cerberus had sharp teeth like a sword,
three heads, and venomous snakes on his tail and back. Once he found Cerberus He wrestled him to
try to knock him out. He was trying to strangle him while the snakes were trying to bite Heracles, and
Cerberus trying to bite his throat. Luckily Heracles was wearing his lion skin that he obtained from an
earlier labor. The lion skin was a very strong material only Zeus lightning bolts. With this and his
strength, he was able to strangle him into submission. When he finally knocked him out, he carried

My New House Essay
As soon as I walked into the front doors of my new house I knew this wasn t my old house. It was like
walking into my grandma s house which was like a thousand years old. I definitely liked my old house
better. Speaking of my old house, it was like my dream house. It was like I was in my very own world
and I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted on that farmland back in Tennessee. Now this stinky
dump in Cleveland is nothing like our city in Tennessee. I walked up the old creaky stairs and at the
top to the right was my room. As soon as I walked into my room I could not say a word, it was the
ugliest room ever, but I knew I had to make it work. Oh I miss those days back at our farm in
Tennessee. At home I was always stressed because of school but at the farm it gave me something to
do and to take my mind off school. The farm was so fun I got to do whatever I wanted to do,like run
throw the corn mazes, take care of the chickens, make sure all the plants had water, play with the
gotes, ride horses, there was so many things to do at the farm that you could never get bored. My
favorite thing to do was plant different types of vegetables and fruit and watch the plants grow. I truly
missed the farm, and all I could think about was the farm and how much fun I had there and how I
lived there my whole childhood. The next morning I woke up to the sound of fire truck siren, I guess
in the city of Cleveland you will always hear them or anything loud at 6:00 in the morning. I truly
thought that this was the jumpiest and loudest city ever, well at least in this part of Cleveland. I stay in
my room the rest of the morning trying to figure out how to make my room feel like home. All of a
sudden I hear loud screaming from down stairs. We would have never had to move here if you re
stupid crops did not die my mom said. The move was really hard on my mom she loved ohio and
loved her job,but my mom and dad were not making much money. Then I heard louder screaming, It
is not just all my fault you could have got a better job, my dad says. Then I hear screaming even
louder how could you say that, you knew I loved my job! My mom said. The screaming went on for

Dido s Farewell
The poem, Dido s Farewell by Lina Pastan, dramatizes the conflict between Dido and her depression
after Aeneas leaves Carthage. The character Dido is the ancient Phoenician queen who founded
Carthage but killed herself after the love of her life, Aeneas, left her to follow his destiny as the
founder of Rome. The author presents the conflict by speaking metaphorically as Dido, using her as an
outlet, which is evident throughout the poem as the author uses the first person perspective but with
modern contraptions. The author starts by speaking about how the rain is chronic at [her] window (1
2), painting the image that her sadness, which is typically presented by rain, is persistent. Continuing,
the author speaks about how the candles in Dido s room are [drowning] in their own wax. This implies
the candles have been in use for a prolonged amount of time, which would mean that Dido hasn t left
the room during that time. This personification of the candles represents how she is drowning in her
own tears and sadness such as the candles are drowning in their own wax.
The next sentence, Abandoned by light, even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here the author continues about how Dido feels awkward in her own home, a nomad in [her] own
house (16 17). This is a paradox, a self contradictory statement that is seemingly absurd. The author
states that she is a nomad, who, by definition, is someone with no fixed home. This contradicts itself
because Dido is a nomad in [her] own house, (16 17) someone with a fixed home is saying that they
are someone without a fixed home. Line eighteen shows that her heart [is] knocking, (18) and later on
it is knocking to be let out. Here perhaps, the author is trying to say that Dido isn t comfortable in her
own skin and mind. Literally, she is saying nomad in my own house, (16 17) as in the architectural
house, but metaphorically she is saying that she is not comfortable in her own

Social Costs Of Smoking Cigarettes
Introduction
The overall economic costs of smoking cigarettes has become somewhat of an epidemic in society for
a variety of reasons. It includes numerous private and social costs. The private cost to smokers goes
far beyond the price of cigarettes alone. Smokers also pay with their health, life, and finances.
Alongside the great cost to smokers, they enjoy benefits to the same degree. The total cost of smoking
not only effects smokers, but society as well. The externalities from smoking are both negative and
positive. Society bears the burden of the negative externalities, or social costs, both physically and
monetarily. The positive externalities, or social benefits, play a significant economic role in society.

The average smoker s overall quality of life is jeopardized because of the health ramifications. Many
long time smokers have lower endurance than non smokers which results in frequent shortness of
breath. They are also more prone to common illnesses due to their lowered immune system. Finally,
they are at a high risk for disease and premature death. Although these costs are high, smokers do reap
some benefit by making the choice to smoke.
If the private cost of smoking to smokers is so high then why smoke? According to economic theory,
if smokers are fully informed, rational and under no duress, it can be assumed that the benefits of
smoking to them are at least equal to the costs which they themselves bear. (Collins; Lapsley)
Otherwise, they would not smoke. The benefits to the smoker are both physical and psychological.
Cigarettes are highly addictive. Reinforcement and withdrawal are the two key factors that establish
cigarette smoking as an addictive behavior. As a learned response to consumption, reinforcement leads
smokers into becoming dependent on the rewards or benefits they reap from smoking. The nicotine in
cigarettes creates a physical dependence while the act of lighting up and smoking creates a
psychological dependence. A smoker benefits from the positive reinforcement that comes from both
the physical and psychological effects of smoking. Smokers are also influenced by

Any displacement of the tympanic membrane causes changes in pressure waves which is transmitted
by tiny bones. 2 Middle ear: Sound waves traveling through the ear canal will hit the tympanum. This
wave information travels across middle ear cavity via a series of delicate bones: the mallus (hammer),
incus (anvil) and stapes (stirrup). These ossicles act as a lever converting the lower pressure eardrum
sound vibrations into higher pressure sound vibrations to smaller membrane called the oval window.
Higher pressure is necessary because the inner ear beyond the oval window contains liquid rather than

What Is Self Discipline Essay
We already know that self discipline is important, but do we really need it?
We know about success tools, and we familiarize ourselves with many useful resources that lead us to
success, so why do we need self discipline?
We all have goals for many areas of our lives. Some of us want successful relationships, some like to
get more money, others want simply happiness in their lives and others seek better health with less
weight. These are common goals, and we sometimes fail or succeed in achieving them. The general
question is: Why we don t achieve those goals? Why we don t become successful in these goals?
The general answer is: Lack of self discipline.
Success needs time. It does not happen at once. What you do today will determine the results in your
future. If you change your present, you change your future. If you eat a lot of pizzas and delicious
food today, you will gain weight, and this will show in your future weight. If you spend more money
than what you earn today, you will have less money in the future.
Present steps determine future results.
Self discipline takes place in your present which will lead to your future. ... Show more content on

We also know that successful persons became successful just by following these laws. Many experts
studied successful people for many years and wrote many rich useful books about them. One top
expert in this field, Brian Tracy, claims that one main skill that you need to achieve success is the
resource of self discipline. You may know many laws of success, and you may have a map for your
goals, but this map will not work if you do not exercise self control for your goals. It is a fact that 97%
of people do not write their goals, and this by itself is a major obstacle to success, but simply by
writing the goals is not enough unless it is combined with self discipline. It is your practical map for
success. It is your actual pragmatic steps that lead you to translating your goals into

History Of The River Tees
This route has a delightful blend of woodland and river scenery. We visit the cosy little village of
Lartington and explore the sylvan valley of Deepdale Beck where a wide range of flora and fauna can
be enjoyed.
Barnard Castle, or Barney as it is more affection
ately known, is an ancient market town. It grew up in
the shadow of Bernard de Balliol s magnificent fortress, after which it is named. The castle dates from
1125 when the original timber structure was rebuilt in stone. It stands 80 feet (24m) above the river
Tees and uses the natural defence of almost sheer cliffs on the west and south sides. The remains
include the Great Hall and a large circular keep the Round Tower, also known as the Balliol Tower.

This area has been landscaped at some time and is planted with Giant Wellingtonia trees. There are
also traces of ornamental ponds and waterfalls.
Leaving the village we pass the Lartington Aqueduct and then continue into the sylvan valley of
Deepdale. The aqueduct was built in 1863 to take the beck over a railway cutting, through which the
South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway ran. We also pass the site of the Deepdale Viaduct,
opened in 1861, to carry the railway on to Tebay. This was 740 feet (225m) in length with eleven
spans across the river and it stood 161 feet (49m) above Deepdale Beck.
Deepdale contains some of the richest deciduous woodland in Upper Teesdale and is a haven for birds
and wild flowers. Great spotted woodpecker, robin, tree creeper and grey wagtail are often seen and,
with patience, kingfisher. You may also spot the brown argus and dark green fritillary butterflies. Our
path leads us back to the main road.
Now we follow the road into Barnard Castle via County Bridge, another bridge so named because the
river Tees was the former border of Yorkshire and the Palatinate of Durham. From the bridge we
continue up through the town passing the Butter Cross and return to our parking

Fragmentation Of The California Red Legged Frog
Peter Eskander
Professor Tim Karels
Biology 327
12 September 2015
Fragmentation of the California Red legged Frog Environment. The issue I will be raising is one that
might not be familiar to all who reside in California and that is primarily focused around the
fragmentation and overall mutilation of areas that keep and protect the species Rana Draytonii,
otherwise known as the California Red legged Frog. One of the reasons I raise this issue, is because
most importantly these frogs were named the official state amphibian of California via AB 2364
(Patrick McGreevy.). An even greater reason to discuss this dilemma is because they are limited in
their size around the Southernmost California residences, whereas they had previously occupied
approximately 70% of its former habitat according to environmentalists (Campbell.). My goal is to
highlight their ecological value to the state and how the California red legged frog s value is more
significant than the fragmentation and intrusion taking place. These red legged frogs are currently
listed as endangered, but they are vulnerable to human intrusion by means of erecting buildings,
projects for road construction, introduction of a non native species along with habitat fragmentation in
areas near where they might usually reside such as near the south Mendocino County and along
southern California with populations extending to the Santa Rosa Plateau (Hammerson, Geoffrey).
The California red legged frog has an intrinsic link to

Sydney Carton Character Analysis
In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens thorough development of each character and skillful use of
coincidence prevents anyone from fading into insignificance; every character in the novel plays a role
vital to the evolution of the plotline. Perhaps more impressive than his ability to place every single
character in a significant role, Dickens uses the element of surprise to introduce the magnitude of
various roles. Sydney Carton, in particular, seems to play a rather insignificant part in much of the
novel, resulting from his self admitted worthlessness. Carton s continual and somewhat irritating self
criticism primes him for a surprising acquisition of influence at the conclusion; an inconsequential life
becomes the novel s hero in an ending which few anticipate. Carton expresses regret over his
unfruitful life multiple times, agonizing over the idea of not having the opportunity to alter it. Dickens
creates a final set of circumstances that are traumatic for much of the novel s characters; Carton,
however, sees the situation as the perfect chance to finally do something meaningful with his life. In
an ironic yet sensible twist, the only way Carton can redeem his wasted life is by losing it. In light of
the nature of his life up to the conclusion of the novel, he does not merit the Christ figure label until
his final act of sacrifice. Charles Dickens unexpectedly transforms a wretched Sydney Carton into a
symbol of Christ through the character s displays of selflessness,

Gene s Imagination In John Knowles A Separate Piece
Imagination is one of the most useful tools a person can use, whether it be applied to completing real
life tasks or used for self exploration. It allows people to create their futures and understand how their
visions can be applied to the world around them. Imagination also offers an escape from reality, and
can help people distance themselves from the outer world until they are ready to take their next step in
life. In A Separate Piece by John Knowles, Gene Forrester relies heavily on his imagination in order to
escape from his insecurities about his current sense of self. Being an adolescent is hard enough on its
own, and the looming presence of World War II outside his New England located boarding school
Devon only adds to Gene s difficulties. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps the most poignant show of Gene s imagination is his inception of Phineas. The handsome,
athletic, smooth talking best friend s existence is so chimerical that he lacks even a last name. Phineas,
or Finny, is the embodiment of everything the hermit like Gene lacks. As hinted by Gene s
unsatisfactory family life, he lacks a strong role model at home to help him grow and develop his
sense of self. Thus, Gene takes matters into his own hands by developing Finny. The imaginary friend,
or perhaps alter ego, guides him through his turbulent adolescent years at Devon. As Gene grows up,
he begins to stop depending on his fantasies to occupy his loneliness, and he subconsciously takes his
first step of letting go of Finny. During a summer adventure of climbing a tree hanging over Devon
river, Gene releases his self frustration at his average abilities by taking it out on Finny. While on a
tree branch, Gene says, Holding firmly to the trunk, I took a step toward him, and then my knees bent
and I jounced the limb... It was the first clumsy physical action I had ever seen [Finny] make. With
unthinking sureness I moved out on the limb and jumped into the river, every trace of my fear of this
forgotten (59 60). This deliberate action shatters Finny s leg. For the first time, Gene no longer needs
his image of Finny to be an unbreakable, untouchable figure. Although the vision of Gene hurting
Finny was out of Gene s own insecurities, it becomes apparent that Finny s fall from grace allows
Gene to recognize his own power. As Gene s story progresses, he realizes he no longer needs the idea
of Finny to give him strength. Finny s subsequent death is the final step in Gene recognizing Finny
was a part of him all along. When discussing Finny s death, Gene says, I did not cry then or ever about
Finny... I could not escape a feeling that [Finny s funeral] was my own funeral, and you do

Lab Report Cell Diffusion
Lab Report Introduction: Background Information The plasma membrane of a cell is like the skin of a
human. It is selectively permeable which means it selects what it wants to allow into the cell and
blocks out what it doesn t want. The cell membrane is made up of a phospholipid bilayer which
contains 75% phospholipids, about 20% cholesterol and 5% glycolipids. Phospholipids are
amphipathic which means they contain both polar and non polar parts, these are their polar heads and
non polar tails. The lipid bilayer is like a sandwich in which the polar heads are the bread of the
sandwich and one slice of bread faces the extracellular fluid and the other faces the cytosol. The non
polar tails are like the contents inside of the sandwich. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It showed that if the pore of a membrane is not large enough, diffusion will not occur. However, if the
pore was large enough and diffusion subsequently occurred, the rate of diffusion was the same even if
the molecular weight cut off (pore size) was bigger. The following solutes and their simple diffusion
data will be explained in order from smallest to largest, smallest being one that was able to fit through
smaller a pore size.
NaCl was able to diffuse starting at 50 MWCO and the pore size there after did not affect the rate of
diffusion, (0.0150 mM/min) which stayed was the same. Urea was not able to diffuse until 100
MWCO and the rate of diffusion stayed the same at 0.0094 mM/min. Glucose was able to diffuse only
at a 200 MWCO and Albumin was too large to fit through any of the pore sizes and did not diffuse.
Activity two: Simulating Facilitated Diffusion
This activity did support the hypothesis which was that the rate of diffusion increases when the
quantity of carrier proteins increases. One thing to be noted is that when the glucose concentration was
increased the rate of diffusion also increased which was not something that was expected. However if
there are not enough carrier proteins available to combine with the solute not all of the solute will be
transported/diffused down the concentration

Study of Milestone 3 s Mobile Phone Implementation Plan
Milestone 3: Mobile Phone Implementation Plan Technology or Business Practices For Milestone to
be successful with their mobile platform strategy their strength of integration needs to progress
beyond TCP/IP and encompass the emerging technologies and standards that will lead to tablets
becoming the dominant development platform of the future. At the center of these technologies are
secured enterprise access encryption and remote management support including device wide wipe and
replace security architectures (Gold, 2011). These technologies make it possible for Milestone to
manage each of their applications remotely and also completely erase the contents of a device if it is
lost or stolen. A second major design criterion is to create an effective Application Programmer
Interface (API) architecture that allows for any of the Milestone applications and associated resource
calls including database integrations to gain real time access speeds (Proffitt, 2011). The expectation
customers have for smartphone and tablet PC access today includes real time performance at a
minimum with periodic application updates not requiring reboot of the device required (The
Economist, 2011). This is the new normal when it comes to device performance and requires an
intensive level of integration within a given device in addition to database and system integration
requirements. Apple has been able to successful enterprise market for their iPhone and iPad Series of

In this report I will be providing the UK s largest supermarket, Tesco with advice on their
performance. I have chosen to use two types of analytical models to review the company; I will be
looking at the organisational structure of Tesco, as well as analysing their business and competitive
strategy.
1.1 Company overview
Tesco is the leading food retailer in Britain, they have also focused on building non food sales which
are available in store and online. Tesco is one of the world s largest retailers with approximately 4,331
stores in 14 countries which include Asia, Europe and the United States. (Tesco, 2011). See appendix

Grant (2010) states, For a strategy to be successful, it must be consistent with the firm s external
environment, and with its internal environment its goals and values, resources and capabilities, and
structure and systems. (Grant, 2010, p.13).
Competitive advantage refers to what sets the organisation apart from others and provides it with a
distinctive edge for meeting customers or client needs in the marketplace. (Daft and Marcic, 2011,
p.152) I will use a SWOT analysis to identify Tesco s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
so it will be clear what Tesco need to improve so they can go on to making decisions to compete with
their competitors and threats.
The first step to analyse strategy is to perform a SWOT analysis. As Daft and Marcic (2011) believe
Formulating strategy often begins with an assessment of the internal and external factors that will
affect the organisation s competitive situation. (Daft and Marcic, 2011, p.155). So this is where I will
begin the analysis. 3.0 Analysis with application
The reason why I have chosen to analyse Tesco s competitive strategy and organisational structure is
because both area s concentrate on the company s goals. Without these areas being acknowledged
properly and successfully analysed they cannot achieve competitive advantage

How Far Do You Agree That Socialist Realism Was Stalin’s...
Stalin had several methods of social control that gave him such a powerful rule in Russia that even
today he still has supporters. Socialist Realism was an essential method to create this, although it was
not the most important method of social control. Socialist Realism was the second most important
method of social control as it was very effective, but not as effective as the Terror. Social Realism
allowed Stalin to be portrayed in a positive light but it was also an attempt to use art forms to sell
government economic and social policy to the Russian people. Artists were made to abandon their
new methods and instead forced to create more traditional pieces of art, such as Roses For Stalin
(Boris Vladimirski, 1949). This painting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This caused Stalin to gain a lot of support due to the sense of fear in the population, which also made
them fear Stalin himself. This gave Stalin a greater power in Russia as anyone who was reluctant to
follow him before had no choice but to obey him. Show trials were a crucial part of the Terror as they
made many people fear the consequences of going against Stalin. In show trials, the aim was not to
establish innocence or guilt as the guilt of the non Communists on trial were assumed guilty from the
start. This would show the Communists as the only trustworthy party. However, in 1936, Communists
were on trial such as Zinoviev and Kamenev. They were charged with the mysterious murder of Kirov,
a considered threat to Stalin. Although they pleaded their innocence in jail, they were persuaded to
confess. This portrayed Stalin as the only trustworthy member of the Communists and so, he should
be leader. Moreover, the Terror was Stalin s most important method of social control as it forced
people to follow him or face extreme consequences. The cult of personality was one of Stalin s most
important methods of social control. This method gave the impression that Stalin wanted to help
people and improve the living standards in Russia, and most importantly made him seem like a great
leader. This

Impact Of The Spanish Empires On The Aztecs
Aliki Daviotis
Paper #2

Extending along the valley of Mexico, with Tenochtitlan as its capital; the Aztec Empire resided. The
Aztecs had significant wealth from trading and heavy payments of tribute from the conquered natives.
From the years 1200 1520, the Aztecs prospered and expanded their empire immensely. However, all
of this was going to change when the Spanish landed on the Yucatan Peninsula in 1519. Following
Christopher Columbus foundation of permanent settlement in the Caribbean, the Spanish were seeking
conquest, expedition and colonization of new territory. Although there were multiple factors that
contributed to the remarkable victory by the Spanish in the sixteenth century such as religion; it was
the indigenous alliances, technological superiority, and disease that was most impactful. The Spanish
conquistadors were not your typical farmers or craftsmen they were soldiers, travelers, and
mercenaries in search of wealth. In their quests for fortune and land, they invaded and enslaved native
communities and looted gold, silver, and other treasures that were up for grabs. The two prosperous
conquests were those of the Aztec empire in Mexico by Hernan Cortes and the Inca empire in Peru by
Francisco Pizarro. They both had unpretentious forces that were far outnumbered by the warriors of
the empires they conquered. A vital element of their success was their progressed weaponry and
durable armor. Spanish conquistadors

How To Treat Eczema
You can effectively treat eczema by removing allergens within your environment. These are the
substances which cause your body to react aversely. The overactive immune system will attack your
body cells upon a trigger from the environment. Some of the most common allergens include perfume,
creams and laundry detergent. At the same time you need to check your diet to remove foods that tend
to bring on the allergic reactions. The common foods that can lead to this sort of reaction include eggs,
fish, peanuts, wheat products and milk. Once these are removed then you have a very good chance of
overcoming the allergy.

are just unacceptable. It is advisable to use a moisturizer after bathing in order to keep the skin supple

get in terms of your skin type. Dry skin can make the symptoms of eczema much worse. In severe
cases of eczema it is advisable to use greasy moisturizers such as vegetable shortening and petroleum

The use of humidifiers to prevent eczema
Installing a humidifier will go some way in ensuring that you keep your skin moist and healthy. It is
also advisable that you do not engage in too much sunbathing. This opens up the possibility of skin
cancer as well as practically damaging your skin. High heat is very difficult to control and therefore
you need to keep the body cool at all times. Make sure that you have prepared the skin for all the
treatments that you undergo.

A Short Note On Chronic And Chronic Illness
Ms. Jones has a both acute and chronic illness which makes her situation more complex. The acute
conditions have a great potential to be reversed; she has a critical hemoglobin (Hgb) level of 6.4 g/dl,
a major infection and a left gangrenous extremity that requires emergent care. Treatment of the acute
condition may be complicated by her chronic condition of diabetes. Immediate care is required to
avoid the spread of the infection and a further decline in her Hgb level which could result in a fatality.
Stabilization of her Hgb level and starting intravenous antibiotic therapy is necessary to avoid harm;
decreasing her chance of cardiac arrest and systemic infection which would increase the likelihood of
success in her case. This scenario does not mention her blood glucose (BG) level but another way
harm can be avoided is by assuring her BG level is within an acceptable range, as well. Therefore,
admitting her to a medical surgical unit to stabilize her Hgb and BG may be necessary prior to surgery.
Although her anemia could be a result of her infection the practitioner should make an effort to
determine the cause of her low Hgb levels to avoid further complications and develop future treatment
plans. However, medical care would not be indicated, if Ms. Jones continues to refuse blood
transfusions. Therefore, more of a palliative or hospice care path may be indicated versus medical and
surgical acute care. According to our text, Ms. Jones has not had a mini mental

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Daycare
Fretting over the best way to mind your little one when you are away at work is commonplace for
most working moms. Choosing the right child care and ensuring your child is in safe hands is in no
doubt a hard nut to crack; and once a right choice is made, mothers are liable to be more relaxed and
confident at work.
The family system in Nigeria gives room to having family members around to help with childcare. It
is the norm to always have grannies (paternal and maternal), aunties, and even nieces at hand to assist
in taking care of your little one but in a situation where this isn t possible, getting the right childcare is
unavoidable.

With your child at a daycare, rushing to make pickups and drop offs to and fro work can really be time
consuming and tiring. A day care option also means you have to run a rigid work schedule in
compliance with the operational hours of the crèche where your child is enrolled (no after hours or
impromptu babysitting).
In choosing a daycare option for your child s care, it s important that you lookout for only registered
day care centres that meet government standards and policies. To also ease the burden, it s advised that
your selected crèche should be within the proximity of your office location. By this, drop offs and
pickups are easier and you can also make unannounced visits to the centre for periodic checks.
Giving a child one on one attention in early childhood is important but early interaction with other
kids is also very needful and should not be overlooked. An only child or firstborn that had

Forensic Analysis Paper
Abstract The contemporary Smartphone has built in Instant Messaging (IM) applications like
Whatsapp, Line, etc, which facilitates users to send and receive chat messages, video, audio and
images via Smartphone in real time. Apart from benefits offered by Instant Messaging (IM), it also
suffers from few vulnerabilities which provide ground for attackers to launch attacks such as Man in
the middle attack (MITM). These applications leave traces and Evidences in phone. In order to
identify crimes, it is essentially required to retrieve these traces and evidences by using appropriate
forensic technique. The works carried out in this field deals with forensic analysis of Whatsapp, viber,
ChatOn etc but not with forensic analysis of Line messenger, even though number of users of Line
messenger is more than 500 million. In this work, evidence subjected to Line messenger has been
extracted from iPhone running ios 6. This paper presents evidence gathering of Line IM application

Mark Twain sThe Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Be Banned...
For more than a century Mark Twain s novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has been ridiculed
and banned by schools across the United States. Over the years many people have asked Should this
novel be taught in classrooms? Most believe that this novel does more harm than good. This novel
should be taught in schools because it provides a clear picture of what time was like back in the 1800s.
The N word is known to cause many problems but if teachers can teach the message Twain was trying
to say then students would understand that this book was not hating on a particular group of people.
As Americans we can learn from this novel, to never allow such racist claims to any race throughout
our future.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should be taught in schools because it is not just a book about
slaves and a boy who has grown up to be a low life. It is more about friendship, back in the 1800s
white people were taught to dehumanize black people. But in the novel, Huck and Jim become very
close. They become good friends throughout their adventures together. Jim cares for Huck because he
knows Huck s father is dead and he does not want Huck to feel alone. Huck and Jim get separated in
the fog while traveling on the Mississippi River. Once they finally find each other, Jim can hardly
believe that it is Huck. He is so glad that nothing bad had happened to him. Goodness gracious, is dat
you, Huck? En you ain dead you ain drownded you s back agin? It s too good for true, honey, it s too
good for true. Lemme look at you, chile, lemme feel o you. No, you ain dead! You s back agin, live en
soun , jis de same ole Huck de same ole Huck thanks to goodness! (Twain 93) Clearly, Jim cares about
Huck s well being, he cares about what happens to Huck throughout the novel. In a way Jim is the
father figure Huck never really had. John Wallace who was a harsh critic, who had a lot to say about
Twain s novel. Wallace says that this book makes black people feel lower and less of people. It
contributes to their feelings of low self esteem and to white students disrespect for black people.
(Wallace 310). Wallace makes a good point but students need to understand that this book is not racist
and it should be taught in

Three Qualities That Groups Expect From Their Leaders
James Kouzes and Barry Posner (1987), authors of The Leadership Challenge , have done research
concentrating on what the organization looks for and expects from their leaders. The researchers have
identified four qualities that groups expect from their leaders:
1. Trustworthiness leaders must win the trust and assurance of the followers that are asked to change.
The school community counts on the principal to walk the talk. Even though it might take a while for
the group members to trust the new leader, when proceeding consistently with the school s mission
and vision, the group s trust develops. It is vital that the leader does not break that trust, as it will be
challenging to recover it. No change or achievement can occur if ... Show more content on

The leader needs to give personal attention to the participants who seem ignored and respond to the
needs of the individual staff members. The leaders make the individuals feel valuable and are counted
on to participate and contribute to the success of the organization. An important factor is the
establishment of a social connection with the individual. This means setting aside the leadership hat
and become fully engaged with the individual by sharing experiences and passions, thus, building trust
and encouraging the neglected individual to gain a sense of belonging. At the same time, the
individual s needs for achievement and growth are being nurtured to realize the individual s full
potential (Bennis Goldsmith, 2010). Bass (1990) also mentions that at this point the leaders listen
efficiently and assign responsibilities with the purpose of developing the individual. The given
responsibilities are observed to see if the individual requires extra provision and to evaluate growth. In
this process, the individual is not supposed to feel like he or she is being assessed. When the leaders
practice this type of attitude, the members of the organization respond with involvement, collaboration
and strive to bring valuable ideas and actions to the table.
As a principal, I am responsible for motivating and engaging all the stakeholders in the school
community I lead. It is clear that a principal cannot improve the school s outcome on his/her own;
therefore, by establishing a

Hate Crime Protection for Gays and Lesbians
In this Gays and lesbians deserve equal protection against the hate crimes that happen in the world.
Aren t we told as young children and also throughout life to treat others as we would want to be
treated? So why are some decimated against based on sexual preference? The statistics show the
percentages of the hate discrimination against the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual community.
The violence that they are pitted against, due to people s discrimination against them, in life. And I
will also mention the discrimination that the LGBT community goes through and what they miss out
based on sexual preference. Atlanta, Georgia, is one of the largest LGBT populations in the South, if
not the nation. An yearly LGBT pride festival draws about 200,000 people. Several neighborhoods
have businesses that market heavily to the LGBT. The statistics show that eighty five percent of cases
on violence and harassment were because of homophobic language and assaults on those people. The
city of Atlanta has been ranked the 32nd in the percentage of same sex unmarried households. If you
narrow it down to cities with overall populations greater than 100,000, Atlanta ranked sixth in the

Pleasantville setting essay
Describe at least ONE important setting in the text(s).
Explain how the setting helped to show the author / creator s idea(s), supporting your points with
visual and / or oral language features.
The film Pleasantville written, directed and produced by Gary Ross shows a time period in American
History where life was more comfortable, stable and perfect if you would generalise it. However, as
the film ironically shows, this was a time when people were more ignorant, racist and most certainly
sexist. Ross demolishes this illusion of the great 1950s American society by showing how its defects
are gradually changed from black and white to colour. Ross uses various settings to help show the
viewer the imperfect aspects of Pleasantville s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Betty is a clear example of costume change. In the beginning Betty wore the typical ladies dress
wear, big poodle skirt etc but as betty starts gaining more knowledge and independence she starts
dressing more elegantly and feminine .This shows the viewer that as the people of pleasantville gains
more knowledge they start to demonstrate the idea of The importance of change which is one of the
ideas that gary ross shows us through setting.
Music is an important signifier of setting and shows the idea of The importance of change clearly
throughout the film. When Jen and David first enter Pleasantville the recurring songs and motifs for
example Take 5 by Dave Brubeck which is played at the beginning in the soda shop gives the town of
pleasantville a very joyful and pleasant atmosphere. This music perfectly matches the naivety of the
teenagers as they engage in good, clean fun with their peers. As the idea of The importance of change
starts to appear in pleasantville, the music becomes more complex and darker to portray the new
rebellious mood that has seized Pleasantville. An example of this is when the new code of conduct
was issued and one of the rules were In no event shall any music be tolerated that is not of temperate
or pleasant nature .In a scene when the coloureds were all gathered at the back

How Did The Dutch Empire Influence Latin America
The Dutch colonization of Latin America is nothing less than a phenomenon. Against all odds the
Dutch empire rose to colonial prominence in the latter sixteenth century and early seventeenth century
throughout much of Asia, South America and the Caribbean. Coming into their success from a vast
trading network the Dutch had to navigate the murky waters of the countries within the triangle
alliance, consisting of France, England and, Spain. Ultimately, these three countries with their
enormous militaries, naval fleets and, wealth were able to surpass the Dutch as the decades elapsed.
However, despite these great odds the influence the Dutch empire had on Latin America is immense.
One of the many odds the Dutch overcame was the massive protective legislation of the triangle
alliance countries as well as, for at least a short ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The seventy or so years before these laws were enacted (the British navigation acts were first enacted
in 1651) the Dutch began to build a monumental empire focused on sugar and slave trading. The
Dutch West Indies company was chartered in 1621 to give monopoly to the Dutch in the trade market
of the Caribbean, Brazil and, Africa, thus restricting the trade of more powerful countries. According
to Pieter C. Emmer, a Dutch historian at Leiden University in the Netherlands, one major reason the
Dutch were such successful traders and colonizers was because Dutch traders were known all over to
offer lower freight rates and a better array of trade goods at lower prices than any of their competitors ,
thus leading to a stronghold in the region by virtue of trade (Emmer 341). In addition to their powerful
trade markets and shipping capabilities some early victories in the sea led to even more

The museum is home to over ten thousand beautiful and very valuable pieces of art, including sculptures, paintings, and even some books. Recently, the museum had a collection of busts from the Immortales collection in Rome. This was the first time that many of these pieces have ever left Italy and was the only place in the United States that they have been. I felt as though it was just a completely different setup, the mahogany wood did not fit well with the plain white stonewalls of the rest of the exhibits. It was also set up as if it was a house with couches and tables but they were not for sitting on and so it just takes up space. It can be distracting from actual paintings displayed there. However, other then the distractions the mahogany wood was beautiful. It almost transported the viewers into a different time period. It was a weird choice when compared to the rest of the museum, but if you were to examine just those two rooms by their selves then you can appreciate the effort took in designing the setup. The last thing that has not been addressed with the critique is the setup of the gift shop, however, I personally did not get the opportunity to look into the gift shop so I can not comment on its setup, but if the gift shop is anything like the rest of the museum then I am sure that it is a nice store with great products for sale. In conclusion, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is a wonderful example of an art museum. It is one of the nicest museums in the country on a college campus. Eduardo Quintana Case Abstract This research paper is going to focus mainly in the process followed by Officer Bird during a traffic violation that led to the arrest of the suspect named Alejandro Quintana. The analysis of the two sides of the coin, the officer and the suspect taken into custody is of main interest in this case. There are a variety of steps to be followed prior to an arrest. The officer/investigator should be responsible for any action taken towards an individual who is about to or being processed. Being able to show the strength, will show the loudness because the current flow alters the frequency and altering the current flow will make the solenoid field larger. Coils and changing direction A conductor, copper, is tightly wrapped around a magnet to make a magnetic field. But how does this create sound? The coil has a current flowing through it the coil moves and the polar orientation reverses. When this is reversed it allows the magnetic forces between the coil and this allows the coil to move up and down the magnet, which creates sound. The magnetic field can be increased by putting more coils around the magnetic which leads to larger sound. Current Current is the driving force which causes the diaphragm acceleration. Current is a flow of electricity which results from the ordered directional movement of electrically charged particles. In simple terms current is the flow of electricity throughout the coil. Current is how we can change the frequency or sound pitch of the speaker, by altering voltage it will change the current. It was like I was in my very own world and I had the freedom to do whatever I wanted on that farmland back in Tennessee. Now this stinky dump in Cleveland is nothing like our city in Tennessee. • 14. Dido s Farewell The poem, Dido s Farewell by Lina Pastan, dramatizes the conflict between Dido and her depression after Aeneas leaves Carthage. The character Dido is the ancient Phoenician queen who founded Carthage but killed herself after the love of her life, Aeneas, left her to follow his destiny as the founder of Rome. The author presents the conflict by speaking metaphorically as Dido, using her as an outlet, which is evident throughout the poem as the author uses the first person perspective but with modern contraptions. The author starts by speaking about how the rain is chronic at [her] window (1 2), painting the image that her sadness, which is typically presented by rain, is persistent. Continuing, the author speaks about how the candles in Dido s room are [drowning] in their own wax. This implies the candles have been in use for a prolonged amount of time, which would mean that Dido hasn t left the room during that time. This personification of the candles represents how she is drowning in her own tears and sadness such as the candles are drowning in their own wax. The next sentence, Abandoned by light, even ... If the private cost of smoking to smokers is so high then why smoke? According to economic theory, if smokers are fully informed, rational and under no duress, it can be assumed that the benefits of smoking to them are at least equal to the costs which they themselves bear. These ossicles act as a lever converting the lower pressure eardrum sound vibrations into higher pressure sound vibrations to smaller membrane called the oval window. Higher pressure is necessary because the inner ear beyond the oval window contains liquid rather than air. The auditory reflex of the middle ear muscles helps protect the inner ear from damage. The cochlea has three fluid filled sections, and supports a fluid wave driven by pressure across the basilar membrane separating two of the sections. 1 called the cochlear duct or scala media, contains an extracellular fluid similar in composition to 2 endolymph, which is usually found inside of cells. • 18. What Is Self Discipline Essay We already know that self discipline is important, but do we really need it? We know about success tools, and we familiarize ourselves with many useful resources that lead us to success, so why do we need self discipline? We all have goals for many areas of our lives. Some of us want successful relationships, some like to get more money, others want simply happiness in their lives and others seek better health with less weight. These are common goals, and we sometimes fail or succeed in achieving them. The general question is: Why we don t achieve those goals? Why we don t become successful in these goals? The general answer is: Lack of self discipline. Success needs time. It does not happen at once. What you do today will determine the results in your future. If you change your present, you change your future. If you eat a lot of pizzas and delicious food today, you will gain weight, and this will show in your future weight. If you spend more money than what you earn today, you will have less money in the future. Present steps determine future results. Self discipline takes place in your present which will lead to your future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We also know that successful persons became successful just by following these laws. Many experts studied successful people for many years and wrote many rich useful books about them. One top expert in this field, Brian Tracy, claims that one main skill that you need to achieve success is the resource of self discipline. You may know many laws of success, and you may have a map for your goals, but this map will not work if you do not exercise self control for your goals. It is a fact that 97% of people do not write their goals, and this by itself is a major obstacle to success, but simply by writing the goals is not enough unless it is combined with self discipline. We visit the cosy little village of Lartington and explore the sylvan valley of Deepdale Beck where a wide range of flora and fauna can be enjoyed. Barnard Castle, or Barney as it is more affection ately known, is an ancient market town. It grew up in the shadow of Bernard de Balliol s magnificent fortress, after which it is named. The castle dates from 1125 when the original timber structure was rebuilt in stone. It stands 80 feet (24m) above the river Tees and uses the natural defence of almost sheer cliffs on the west and south sides. We also pass the site of the Deepdale Viaduct, opened in 1861, to carry the railway on to Tebay. This was 740 feet (225m) in length with eleven spans across the river and it stood 161 feet (49m) above Deepdale Beck. The issue I will be raising is one that might not be familiar to all who reside in California and that is primarily focused around the fragmentation and overall mutilation of areas that keep and protect the species Rana Draytonii, otherwise known as the California Red legged Frog. One of the reasons I raise this issue, is because most importantly these frogs were named the official state amphibian of California via AB 2364 (Patrick McGreevy.). An even greater reason to discuss this dilemma is because they are limited in their size around the Southernmost California residences, whereas they had previously occupied approximately 70% of its former habitat according to environmentalists (Campbell.). My goal is to highlight their ecological value to the state and how the California red legged frog s value is more significant than the fragmentation and intrusion taking place. These red legged frogs are currently listed as endangered, but they are vulnerable to human intrusion by means of erecting buildings, projects for road construction, introduction of a non native species along with habitat fragmentation in areas near where they might usually reside such as near the south Mendocino County and along southern California with populations extending to the Santa Rosa Plateau (Hammerson, Geoffrey). • 22. Sydney Carton Character Analysis In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens thorough development of each character and skillful use of coincidence prevents anyone from fading into insignificance; every character in the novel plays a role vital to the evolution of the plotline. Perhaps more impressive than his ability to place every single character in a significant role, Dickens uses the element of surprise to introduce the magnitude of various roles. Sydney Carton, in particular, seems to play a rather insignificant part in much of the novel, resulting from his self admitted worthlessness. Carton s continual and somewhat irritating self criticism primes him for a surprising acquisition of influence at the conclusion; an inconsequential life becomes the novel s hero in an ending which few anticipate. Carton expresses regret over his unfruitful life multiple times, agonizing over the idea of not having the opportunity to alter it. Dickens creates a final set of circumstances that are traumatic for much of the novel s characters; Carton, however, sees the situation as the perfect chance to finally do something meaningful with his life. In an ironic yet sensible twist, the only way Carton can redeem his wasted life is by losing it. In light of the nature of his life up to the conclusion of the novel, he does not merit the Christ figure label until his final act of sacrifice. Charles Dickens unexpectedly transforms a wretched Sydney Carton into a symbol of Christ through the character s displays of selflessness, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Gene s Imagination In John Knowles A Separate Piece Imagination is one of the most useful tools a person can use, whether it be applied to completing real life tasks or used for self exploration. It allows people to create their futures and understand how their visions can be applied to the world around them. Imagination also offers an escape from reality, and can help people distance themselves from the outer world until they are ready to take their next step in life. In A Separate Piece by John Knowles, Gene Forrester relies heavily on his imagination in order to escape from his insecurities about his current sense of self. Being an adolescent is hard enough on its own, and the looming presence of World War II outside his New England located boarding school Devon only adds to Gene s difficulties. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perhaps the most poignant show of Gene s imagination is his inception of Phineas. The handsome, athletic, smooth talking best friend s existence is so chimerical that he lacks even a last name. Phineas, or Finny, is the embodiment of everything the hermit like Gene lacks. As hinted by Gene s unsatisfactory family life, he lacks a strong role model at home to help him grow and develop his sense of self. Thus, Gene takes matters into his own hands by developing Finny. The imaginary friend, or perhaps alter ego, guides him through his turbulent adolescent years at Devon. As Gene grows up, he begins to stop depending on his fantasies to occupy his loneliness, and he subconsciously takes his first step of letting go of Finny. During a summer adventure of climbing a tree hanging over Devon river, Gene releases his self frustration at his average abilities by taking it out on Finny. While on a tree branch, Gene says, Holding firmly to the trunk, I took a step toward him, and then my knees bent and I jounced the limb... It was the first clumsy physical action I had ever seen [Finny] make. With unthinking sureness I moved out on the limb and jumped into the river, every trace of my fear of this forgotten (59 60). This deliberate action shatters Finny s leg. For the first time, Gene no longer needs his image of Finny to be an unbreakable, untouchable figure. Although the vision of Gene hurting Finny was out of Gene s own insecurities, it becomes apparent that Finny s fall from grace allows Gene to recognize his own power. As Gene s story progresses, he realizes he no longer needs the idea of Finny to give him strength. Finny s subsequent death is the final step in Gene recognizing Finny was a part of him all along. The acute conditions have a great potential to be reversed; she has a critical hemoglobin (Hgb) level of 6.4 g/dl, a major infection and a left gangrenous extremity that requires emergent care. Treatment of the acute condition may be complicated by her chronic condition of diabetes. Immediate care is required to avoid the spread of the infection and a further decline in her Hgb level which could result in a fatality. Stabilization of her Hgb level and starting intravenous antibiotic therapy is necessary to avoid harm; decreasing her chance of cardiac arrest and systemic infection which would increase the likelihood of success in her case. This scenario does not mention her blood glucose (BG) level but another way harm can be avoided is by assuring her BG level is within an acceptable range, as well. Therefore, admitting her to a medical surgical unit to stabilize her Hgb and BG may be necessary prior to surgery. Although her anemia could be a result of her infection the practitioner should make an effort to determine the cause of her low Hgb levels to avoid further complications and develop future treatment plans. • 38. Mark Twain sThe Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Be Banned... For more than a century Mark Twain s novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has been ridiculed and banned by schools across the United States. Over the years many people have asked Should this novel be taught in classrooms? Most believe that this novel does more harm than good. This novel should be taught in schools because it provides a clear picture of what time was like back in the 1800s. The N word is known to cause many problems but if teachers can teach the message Twain was trying to say then students would understand that this book was not hating on a particular group of people. As Americans we can learn from this novel, to never allow such racist claims to any race throughout our future. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn should be taught in schools because it is not just a book about slaves and a boy who has grown up to be a low life. It is more about friendship, back in the 1800s white people were taught to dehumanize black people. But in the novel, Huck and Jim become very close. They become good friends throughout their adventures together. Jim cares for Huck because he knows Huck s father is dead and he does not want Huck to feel alone. Huck and Jim get separated in the fog while traveling on the Mississippi River. Once they finally find each other, Jim can hardly believe that it is Huck. He is so glad that nothing bad had happened to him. Goodness gracious, is dat you, Huck? En you ain dead you ain drownded you s back agin? It s too good for true, honey, it s too good for true. Lemme look at you, chile, lemme feel o you. No, you ain dead! You s back agin, live en soun , jis de same ole Huck de same ole Huck thanks to goodness! (Twain 93) Clearly, Jim cares about Huck s well being, he cares about what happens to Huck throughout the novel. In a way Jim is the father figure Huck never really had. John Wallace who was a harsh critic, who had a lot to say about Twain s novel. Wallace says that this book makes black people feel lower and less of people. It contributes to their feelings of low self esteem and to white students disrespect for black people. (Wallace 310). Wallace makes a good point but students need to understand that this book is not racist and it should be taught in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Three Qualities That Groups Expect From Their Leaders James Kouzes and Barry Posner (1987), authors of The Leadership Challenge , have done research concentrating on what the organization looks for and expects from their leaders. The researchers have identified four qualities that groups expect from their leaders: 1. Trustworthiness leaders must win the trust and assurance of the followers that are asked to change. The school community counts on the principal to walk the talk. Even though it might take a while for the group members to trust the new leader, when proceeding consistently with the school s mission and vision, the group s trust develops. It is vital that the leader does not break that trust, as it will be challenging to recover it. No change or achievement can occur if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The leader needs to give personal attention to the participants who seem ignored and respond to the needs of the individual staff members. The leaders make the individuals feel valuable and are counted on to participate and contribute to the success of the organization. An important factor is the establishment of a social connection with the individual. This means setting aside the leadership hat and become fully engaged with the individual by sharing experiences and passions, thus, building trust and encouraging the neglected individual to gain a sense of belonging. At the same time, the individual s needs for achievement and growth are being nurtured to realize the individual s full potential (Bennis Goldsmith, 2010). Bass (1990) also mentions that at this point the leaders listen efficiently and assign responsibilities with the purpose of developing the individual. The given responsibilities are observed to see if the individual requires extra provision and to evaluate growth. In this process, the individual is not supposed to feel like he or she is being assessed. When the leaders practice this type of attitude, the members of the organization respond with involvement, collaboration and strive to bring valuable ideas and actions to the table. As a principal, I am responsible for motivating and engaging all the stakeholders in the school community I lead. It is clear that a principal cannot improve the school s outcome on his/her own; therefore, by establishing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explain how the setting helped to show the author / creator s idea(s), supporting your points with visual and / or oral language features. The film Pleasantville written, directed and produced by Gary Ross shows a time period in American History where life was more comfortable, stable and perfect if you would generalise it. However, as the film ironically shows, this was a time when people were more ignorant, racist and most certainly sexist. • 43. How Did The Dutch Empire Influence Latin America The Dutch colonization of Latin America is nothing less than a phenomenon. Against all odds the Dutch empire rose to colonial prominence in the latter sixteenth century and early seventeenth century throughout much of Asia, South America and the Caribbean. Coming into their success from a vast trading network the Dutch had to navigate the murky waters of the countries within the triangle alliance, consisting of France, England and, Spain. Ultimately, these three countries with their enormous militaries, naval fleets and, wealth were able to surpass the Dutch as the decades elapsed. However, despite these great odds the influence the Dutch empire had on Latin America is immense. The seventy or so years before these laws were enacted (the British navigation acts were first enacted in 1651) the Dutch began to build a monumental empire focused on sugar and slave trading. The Dutch West Indies company was chartered in 1621 to give monopoly to the Dutch in the trade market of the Caribbean, Brazil and, Africa, thus restricting the trade of more powerful countries. According to Pieter C. Emmer, a Dutch historian at Leiden University in the Netherlands, one major reason the Dutch were such successful traders and colonizers was because Dutch traders were known all over to offer lower freight rates and a better array of trade goods at lower prices than any of their competitors , thus leading to a stronghold in the region by virtue of trade (Emmer 341).
