Essay about Thornton Wilder s Our Town
Thornton Wilder s Our Town Our Town is play written a while ago, but it relates to any time. Showing
that routine is a part of everybody s life. No matter what day and age you live in your going to have a
routine. This play shows an example of two families and their daily routines. The whole play relates to
routine even the different acts.
Our Town takes place in Grover s Corner, New Hampshire around the turn of the century. (1900 s).
This play uses a lot of flashbacks. There s one with George and Emily when they first fall in love at
Mr. Morgan s shop. It also uses foreshadowing. When they told of how everyone died. Another
flashback is when Joe comes back after about ten years and they talk about the dead and everyone s
lives.

The dialect throughout this play was universal. It could be used in many different areas and/or time
periods. I thought that the dialect used throughout this book was very similar to how people around
Garden City talk. Blessed be the tie that binds is played a lot in Our Town. This song ties in with the
theme perfectly. Showing how everything is connected and how we miss all the small things in the
world.
The staging is kept very simple. This allows you to think up what they are describing. Which lets you
use your imagination to make it look as you wish. There isn t much to the stage as I said they keep it
simple, for example: for the wedding all they have are chairs set up in rows. The lighting is low
making it easier for you to make your own stage with your imagination.
This play could actually have two themes. Living life to the fullest, and appreciate the small things in
life. I believe the author wrote this play to show that no matter what the time is or where you live your
going to have a routine and the cycle of life. The theme is really developed when Rebecca is at the
grave yard and goes back for her day of life. She realizes that she never appreciated things that
mattered. The value of this play today is great because it relates to us as it will continue to do so for
some time.
I believe the title Our Town is good for this play. It shows that it can be any town and anytime. I didn t
really like that play, but I did

Globalization Has Become The New Term For The...
II. DESCRIPTION
A. Globalization
Related Theory Globalization has become the new term for the international economy, which makes
the nations have become more reliant through the flow of services, goods, and financial resources
since 1970s (Gereffi et al., 2001). The term globalization was not created until the second half of
twentieth century, it has a longer history. The word globe originated from the fifteenth century
etymologically, which is derived from the Latin word globus and started to indicate an illustration of
the earth hundred years ago (Smelser and Baltes, 2001). The word global arrived in the late
seventeenth century and began to entitle world scale term in the late nineteenth century, also to its

Foreign Direct Investment happens when a resources invested by a firm outside its country. There are
a lot of barriers such as tariffs on imports of produced goods. Technological change in communication,
information processing, and transportation technologies is the second factor. There are some major
developments since the Second World War ended, such as microprocessors and telecommunications,
internet, and transportation technology (Hill, 2005).
Implication on Research Subject As the pioneer of global retailing industry, Wal Mart under Sam
Walton developed its policy of Everyday Low Prices (EDLP) under Sam Walton. Wal Mart also
increased profits significantly through approval of new technology, such as uniform product codes,
automated distribution centers, investment on a satellite system which is believed as the driving force
in Wal Mart s future success (Brea Solís, Casadesus Masanell and Grifell Tatjé, 2014). In addition, e
commerce has been one of Wal Mart ultimate weapon in order to face the globalization era. It
accounts for $10 billion in annual sales. Moreover, Wal Mart has been trying with methods to integrate
e commerce into its actions and give customers much more choices for buying some goods and stuffs.
Also, Wal Mart proclaimed a sample program which allows customers who demand groceries from
Wal Mart s website to go to the pickup center and collect it without leaving their vehicles (Mass

Short Stories About Failure And Help, Perseverance, And Faith
I am honored to be speaking here today. Eighth grade was a fun, but tough year. At the beginning of
eighth grade I was excited and worried for the year to come. Now I think of this year and I think of
how fast it went, the fun I had, and the troubles I had. I think of how I am going into high school. It s
hard to believe. I am not here to talk to you about freaking out about high school. I want to tell you
about eighth grade and what you will experience. I have three stories to tell you. Only three. Three
stories about failure and help, perseverance, and faith. The first story is about failure. Failure is
something I was afraid of, especially in math. I never wanted to fail. I wanted to try my best and do
amazing on everything. Sadly, being perfect isn t how the world works. In math, at the end of the year,
I was really worried about a unit we were doing. At first I thought I knew what I was doing. I had a
good handle on the problems in class and on the homework. When it came to the first quiz, I failed it.
When I saw the score on the computer screen I almost burst into tears. I was harder on myself than
anyone was on me. I knew I tried my best, but I didn t feel like it. I had never failed before. The
teacher came around the next day and asked if I needed any extra help. At first I was thinking, no. I do
not need help. Later that night I changed my mind. I went to her class during my lunch and she
answered my questions and helped me on some practice problems. For the

The Importance Of National Park
Although in recent years urgency for National Park funding and research has declined, the delicate
ecosystems within the U.S must be preserved as their vitality is threatened. Parks are government
protected areas by the National Park Service within the United States boundaries that house various
types of ecosystems. Yellowstone National Park was the first National Park created by congress and
Ulysses s. Grant by the Act of March 1, 1872, making it exclusively under the control of the Secretary
of the Interior. With the creation of Yellowstone, more than 100 countries contain around 1,200
preserved areas similar to that of a park. June 8th of 1906 Theodore Roosevelt passed the Antiquities
Act was passed, enabling presidents to declare landmarks of scientific or historic value in federal
ownership. The Antiquities Act laid the foundation for nearly 100 protected areas throughout the U.S.
In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson created the National Park Service, a federal bureau responsible for
the preservation of 35 national parks. It s purpose was to, conserve the scenery and the natural and
historic objects and the wildlife therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner
and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations. (39 Stat.

than 84 million acres of land throughout 50 states, parts of the District of Columbia, Guam,

Short Paper #3
Many large complex financial institutions found themselves of liquidity at the beginning of the crisis
and as it progressed. I think they were surprised. The trigger for the liquidity crisis was an increase in
subprime mortgage defaults, which was first noted in February 2007. The bank centered nature of the
crisis made it harder than in the past for banks to attract deposits and provide liquidity to borrowers
shut out of securities markets.
Banks may not be able to provide liquidity in a financial crisis. The reason for this is that a bank
centered crisis may lead investors to concern about the safety of bank deposits, even with deposit
insurance. Therefore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, AIG has been increasingly active in the credit derivatives business, including credit
default swaps. AIG s stock price fell more than 90 percent, capping off a large decline from the
previous days in September 16, 2008. The AIG bailout was extended by a further 37 million in
October and another 40 billion in November.
An originate to distribute model of lending, where the originator of a loan sells it to various third
parties, was a popular method of mortgage lending before the onset of the subprime mortgage crisis.
This originate to distribute model had advantages over the old originate to hold model, where a bank
originated a loan to the borrower and retained the credit risk. People believe that originate to distribute
model of banking played a key role in the development of the financial crisis because instead of
holding loans on banks balance sheets, banks moved to an originate and distribute model. Banks
repackaged loans and passed them on to various other financial investors, thereby off loading risk.
Next, banks increasingly financed their asset holdings with shorter maturity instruments. This change
left banks particularly exposed to a dry up in funding liquidity.
However, Gary Gorton has a different perspective. He believes that originate to distribute model
claims that securitizations should not end up on bank balance sheets. There is no basis for his idea. In
fact, there is an important

Abstract:
It is believed that the human race exists on earth about 200,000 years, first originating in Africa, but
now they inhabit every continent, with a total population of over 6.5 billion people as of 2007. In
addition, with the humans occupying the planet, natural resources extinct, pollution increases,
technology grows. In today s fast paced world, technological progress, changes, and advances are

Health harming is being caused by mobile phones, because there is radiation, which leads to
consequences such as headaches, earaches, blurring of vision and even causing cancer. Even though
these problems are still under research, mobile phone users are advised to reduce the usage on mobile
phones if it is possible. There is also presence of less and less privacy respected with the use of
computers and internet. Today, it is very easy for many people to get into your personal computer, e
mail addresses, history of websites used, in order to find out immense number of information, which
can be later be used for personal gain. This is also a case with cameras, either mobile phone cameras,
computer cameras, and classical cameras, where intimacy is no more respected. What is even more
important is that with technological progress there are more and more machinery, there is less need for
human labor, which brings poverty, leaves people without jobs, unemployment is growing, but it still
does not affect the economy because the progress can be even better and more efficient with the
development of the industry. There are less and less farmers, because of the huge use of technological
machinery who can perform better for less cost and lower time. This is really affecting many societies

Analytical Essay
History of the Assembly Line
Back during the second World War, my grandma had to go into the factories to work. At that same
time, my grandpa, her husband, was over fighting in the war. She was a Rosie the Riveter and went
into the factory to work for General Motors. Sadly, she is no longer with us so everything I have
learned about her in the factory are stories that have been passed down.
General Motors at that time was making anything from tanks to ammunition casings (Carroll, n.d.). I
was unable to track down what exactly my grandma was working on but at that time she lived in
Pontiac, Michigan and many plants around there were producing a variety of different products for the
war. After ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1927, Ford, with the help of the assembly line, had sold about fifteen million cars worldwide.
These fifteen million cars accounted for over half of all automobiles that were sold by that time
(McKenzie, 2015). Also, in the 1920s, the assembly got a slight upgrade. The original rope and pulley
assembly lines were upgraded to mechanized conveyors. The next big upgrade to the assembly line
was in the decade of the War. This is when robots were first introduced to the assembly lines. This was
developed by the vice president of manufacture, Delmar Harder. This was a chance to see what
automation could possibly do for the line. These robots did not run purely by themselves, the workers
still played a large role. With this new found knowledge, Ford was able to open a self regulating plant
for sheet metal stamping. Continuing with the development and improvement of the assembly line, in
the 1960s, new machines were invented that allowed for five axes of motion. These devices were
called the Versatran , and were installed a Ford factory in Ohio. But later in the decade, robots became
even more complex adding another axis it can work

Identify And Evaluate Clearwater Technologies Existing...
1. Identify and evaluate Clearwater Technologies existing pricing on the QTX line. What are its
pricing objectives? With the introduction of the upgrade, should Clearwater reconsider its pricing
strategy?
The existing pricing:

According to table 1 and 2, because Clearwater is upgrading its products right now, they will design
the 30 seat server, so even the customer just want 10 seat or 20 seat, Clearwater will still ship them the
30 seat server with just 10 or 20 seats usable. So in this case, the actual cost of the server will all be
900 dollars.

2. The Sales Manager Brian James:
New 30 seat unit 17,250
Original 10 seat unit 8,000
Price for 20 seat unit 9,250
And the final new 20 seat unit price will be 14,000
For this pricing option, he didn t increase the original prices of both 30 seat and 10 seat. Instead, he
simply calculated the 20 seat price by using the difference between 30 seats and 10 seats.
In the positive aspect, this pricing strategy is actually fair enough for the current customers, because
he didn t change anything to the current price. Obviously this strategy will help Clearwater to gain
more customers loyalty, and probably they will get more orders.
But on the other hand, after all the company was changing the product system because they want more
profits, the pricing strategy provided by Rob was clearly ran in the opposite direction. I think it s a
little be less aggressive for the product manager to actually decrease their prices. Fortunately the profit
margin for the QTX is good enough, so they can still make remarkable profit on it.
3. Hillary from Financial Department:
She suggested that they should be more aggressive and set the price at 15,000 or even 20,000 (I think
she means the price for 20 seat, I m a little bit confused here)

Due to the 3 department have to set a compromised pricing strategy, otherwise they will keep arguing

Getting Worse in the Distribution of Income
The studies have shown that 62 percent of the world population has a worsening in the distribution of
income. Income distribution is one of the reason economist believe the Samuelsson model is still an
hypothesis and have not been able to be proven as more of the world engages in trade. With there
being different ways to measure distribution income most of the data collected is confusing to
economist. Data from the World Bank show that 2.8 billion people live below the poverty line.
Changes in income of the poor house can be changed by two variables first economic growth and
distribution of income. According to the author there is growing recognition that distribution is
important to poverty reduction as well as growth. Because of this gap in income distribution most
economist cannot measure the effect globalization has on a country most country or rank twice with
two different numbers making it hard for economist to measure the growth of a country. Samuelsson
says that trade should bring in income helping a country rise above poverty because globalization can
be measured there no way to tell if globalization has a positive effect on country overall growth. If we
take a look at Cross country studies presented by Harrison we see a different take on globalization. It
takes a look at the relationship between poverty, inequality and globalization. Easterly finds that
increasing trade integration is associated with Falling inequalities within developed countries and

How To Brush Your Teeth Research Paper
Getting kids to brush their teeth well is a constant battle. You know how vital good oral health habits
are, but it s hard to convince your child when there are so many more interesing things to do. The
good news is that toothbrushing doesn t have to be monotonous or boring. Here are six tips to make
the experience more pleasant for both of you: 1. Let Your Child Pick a Toothbrush There is an almost
endless variety of toothbrushes to choose from. They come in practically any color imaginable and
feature a wide variety of popular characters. Allow your child the freedom to pick any style of brush
that he or she likes. If you can t find the perfect brush in a local store, you re almost sure to find what
you re looking for online. 2. Offer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Offer a Reward Turn brushing into a positive experience by offering a reward for a job well done. If
your child brushes for two minutes without complaining, offer a little something special. It could be
anything that your child likes, from stickers to extra screen time. The key is to tailor the reward to
your child, so that it s something he or she wants to strive for. 5. Have a Dance Party Why not brush
your teeth with your child and turn it into a fun time for both of you? Turn on some upbeat music and
dance around while you brush your teeth together. You ll be setting a great example, getting some
exercise and making sure that your little one s teeth get clean all at the same time. 6. Sound the Alarm
Instead of setting a standard timer to go off after two minutes of brushing, get creative. Do something
silly, like ring a bell, blow a whistle or play a ringtone on your phone. Your child will be so busy
anticipating the next alarm that he ll forget to complain about how long he has to brush. Convincing
kids to brush their teeth is definitely a challenge. It can leave even the most patient parents with frayed
nerves, but it doesn t have to be that way. By getting a little creative and silly, toothbrushing time can
become something to look foward to each day instead of something that both of you

Pascal s Wager Argument Analysis
According to Pascal, one cannot come to the knowledge of God s existence through reason alone, so
he suggests that the wise thing to do is to live your life as if God does exist. The reasoning behind this
is that, a life like that has everything to gain and nothing to lose. He believes that, if we live as though
god exist, and God does indeed exists, we will have infinite happiness(heaven). Even if the God doesn
t exist at the end, we have not lost anything. Pascal then states, if we live as though God doesn t exist
and God really does exist, we will be in infinite torment (hell and punishments). If we weigh the two
options, it is quite clear that the obvious choice would be to live as if the God exists. He essentially
concludes that the potential benefits of believing in God outweigh the potential of not believing in
God. There are many objections to this argument and the one of the famous one is, we cannot force
ourselves to believe in God. This argument denies the Pascal s Wager, because believing in God isn t
something we chose, and a person cannot make himself/herself to believe in God if he/she doesn t.

I do understand the argument that was made by Pascal and agree to some certain extent, but his initial
suggestion is to live as if we believe in God . We as humans cannot simply decide to believe in
something through an act of will. Instead, in order for one to believe that something is true, one needs
an evidence for its truth. Pascal only asks us to believe in God with no evidence that such belief would
be true. Therefore he asks us to believe without a reason, which shows that the argument he makes is
quite weak. For example: If a person offers another person 2 million dollars for believing that the sky
is red. Can that person sincerely belief in such a thing by simply just wishing to? Clearly

The Importance Of Education For Public Schools
In Diane Ravitch Article she claims that the essentials of a good education is for public schools to
keep away from the standard testing because if takes time away from students furthering their
knowledge into learning, that not involves math or learning. Ravitch then continues into pointing that
the public system doesn t have the best educational learning system, which especially involves
minorities like black and Latino students. Ravitch proceeds into say that those types of minorities
haven t had any progress, because of the low income neighborhoods they live in. While she argues
that low income communities don t have the same resources as private schools. Ravitch is refuting
privatized schools as the answer to bridging the gap between the educational scores of middle class
whites and low income minorities. Ravitch tells readers, We know what works. What works are the
very opportunities that advantaged families provide for their children. In homes with adequate
resources, children get advantages that enable them to arrive in school healthy and ready to learn . In
contrast, children who are from disadvantaged homes are more likely to experience stress and
disruptions to their lives; be homeless; live in dangerous neighborhoods with inadequate housing;
have asthma; be exposed to lead; have untreated vision, hearing and dental issues; and have an
incarcerated or uneducated parent. They are dragged down by the circumstances into which they were

Describe The Career Of Oncology Nurse
Ann Richards once said, I had such high expectations of myself. I was going to be the best mother, the
best housewife, the best entertainer, the best nurse, you know what it was, I was going to be the best.
And I could never live up to my expectations. Once something traumatic happens to your family, one

Mitral Valve Disease Essay
Mitral Valve disease is the most common heart disease in dogs, it is responsible for 75% of heart
disease in dogs. It is thought to be genetic and is more common in smaller breeds, especially in
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels where it is the leading cause of death, it can also effect larger breeds.
Mitral valve disease effects the cardiovascular system. In a healthy animal deoxygenated blood flows
into the heart from the vena cava into the right atrium, it then passes through the tricuspid valve into
the right ventricle. From here the blood travels through the pulmonary artery to the lungs where is it
oxygenated, next it flows from the lungs to the left atrium via the pulmonary vein. Here it passes
through the mitral valve to the left ventricle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no cure for mitral valve disease, it can only be managed and treatment can change as the
disease progresses. The treatment is commonly diuretics, positive inotropes, vasodilators and other
medications that help relieve the symptoms of heart failure and regulate blood pressure. Sometimes
treatment does not work in severe cases and the dog will die even with treatment. The only way to
prevent the disease is to stop the dog from breeding either by neutering the animal or keeping it away

Joyce Meyer Interview
Joyce Meyer is a renowned world s celebrated spiritual icon and Bible teacher. She has written more
than 800 books which have been translated into more than 80 languages thus reaching a vast
population of the world. She is also a Ph.D. holder in theology from the Life Christian University.
This is my interview with her at her St. Louis, Missouri home on the Easter day. Me: Thanks for
creating time for this interview. I must admit you are a hard one to meet. Joyce: (smiles) welcome. It
is because of my busy schedule, thanks to God for this time. Me: straight away, for a long period there

position today? Joyce: leadership is a noble course that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joyce: I appreciate that the increasing population of mankind has put immense pressure on human
beings to advance and seek new methods of life. These methods such as manufacturing may result in
emission of harmful substances to the immediate environment. My take is that the human race should
strive to make the world a better place by redeeming its natural state. Planting trees and adopting
environmentally friendly sources of energy. This is the only way to salvage the earth we are living in
today. Me: Do you think the internet is a major contributor to the high levels of moral decay
experienced today? Joyce: the internet is a necessary evil tool. It helps and destroys in equal measure.
I must admit that most of my work are propagated via the internet and through the platform I have
reached many souls. I suppose there is need to protect the young generation from exposure to
undesired content on the internet. Parents should be taught on the importance of controlling what their
children access (Meyer, 2006). That s the best we can do right now. Me: Lastly. How would you grade

Case Study Of Maggi
MAGGI : The Crisis and the way forward
Summary
This case study is about the crisis that happened to Nestle s brand Maggi. This case details how a
company who was running successfully and was the market leader for the past 30 years in the instant
noodles segment, was suddenly banned in the whole country. Owing to concerns related to MSG and
Lead levels in Maggi samples, many state government banned usage of Maggi. The MSG and the lead
levels were found way above the permissible limits.
Currently, the ban for exports has been lifted by the Bombay HC but still Maggi samples have to be
tested again and only based on successful results can Maggi resume the production.

Recommendations
The first and the foremost thing that Nestle should do is to educate the audience about what wrong has
been done through television and newspaper advertisements and active communication with the
consumers through media. They can t remain conservative at this point and need to reply to media.
Only through this can they salvage their image.
Also, although they should have hired external crisis management team pretty early, but still hiring
them is a great move on the part of Nestle. They should co work with the crisis team to develop a fool
proof strategy to recover the brand image of Maggi in the minds of the Indian consumers so that as
soon as the test results are out and ban on maggi circulation is completely removed, consumers should
be as willing to buy maggi, as they were before the incident happened.
Nestle could come out with a statement detailing all that had happened and what possibly went wrong
on their part. They should clearly specify what they have done to rectify any problem whatsoever and
what all plans they had for the future regarding the safety of their food

Our Difficult Journey Towards Universal Suffrage
Our difficult journey towards universal suffrage
As the text book defines it, franchise or suffrage is the right to vote. In the United States, it took many
years to gain universal suffrage, or the ability of all citizens to have the right to vote. In the late 1700 s
only about 5% of Americans were eligible to vote (wealthy, white, males of certain religious
affiliations). By the early 1800 s, the properly ownership and religion requirements were dropped
allowing most white males to vote.
Even though the 14th amendment gave citizenship to everyone born or naturalized in the country, the
first real legislation towards giving men of color the right to vote was the 15th amendment. The
amendment ratified in 1870 stated that the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be
denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition
of servitude [library of congress, 1]. Technically speaking, this federal legislation should have been
given the blacks the right to vote regardless of their status.
However, this was not popular with the white establishment in the southern states in particular, as they
quickly found loopholes and other techniques until 1965 to effectively block the votes from being
cast. Although this was meant to affect the black population for the most part, these techniques
affected the whites who were poor as well. Among others, the most common ways to disenfranchise
were the use of violence, poll

The Importance Of Public Relations And Communication
The landscape of education has changed tremendously over the past several decades. Gone are the
days when students attended the public school in their community with the occasional student
attending a parochial school. In today s society there is competition among many different educational
options for students. In addition to public schools there are parochial, charter, private, home schooling,
and school choice options all vying for the same students. The scope of school public relations must
also adapt to meet changing needs as the parents we service transition from Generation X to
Millennials (Raines, 2002). Millennials are the first generation to grow up in a digital environment

Public relation needs in parochial and private schools are different than those of public schools. All

plan fundamental information about the school is included in this paper. Located in suburban Northern
Palm Beach County, All Saints Catholic School is an inter parish school supported by six local
parishes. The current enrollment is 462 students, grades Pre K through eighth. The majority of the
students (397) are white, 25 are of two or more races, six are Asian, and one is of unknown race. All
Saints is a Catholic school and 33 of the 35 teachers are active members of the Catholic faith. Of the
35 teachers on staff 94% are white, non Hispanic while the remaining 6% are Hispanic. All teachers
have bachelor s degrees and are teaching in their area of certification. This makes them all highly
qualified. The surrounding neighborhoods of the school are affluent and upper middle class. The
tuition rate limits the demographic of families enrolled. Due to the financial investment of parents in
the school and their children, they are highly involved in all aspects of their children s education.

Summary Of Angela Davis Are Prisons Obsolete
Welcome to Literature Links. This week in the Literature Link s office, we have been thoroughly
captivated by Angela Davis s Are Prisons Obsolete?, a profoundly informative nonfiction text that
encourages the reader to question the universal acceptance of the prison system in contemporary
society. Davis offers an alternative reading on the issue of the relevance of the prison system and
perpetuates the discourse that the entire prison system is unnecessary, harmful and fundamentally
structured upon racist ideologies. Davis, a prominent American abolitionist activist, systematically
evaluates the prison industrial complex in relation to a multitude of discourses such as its history, the
racist ideologies and gender constructs it enforces, and

Read The Visual Meaning
What does it mean to read the visual ? What do you understand by the term visuality ? Using a
photograph or single image, explore the relationship between seeing and being, as it applies to visual
phenomena. Include a copy of the image.
To read the visual, one must look past the initial image and understand the context, meaning, emotions
and events that are occurring within the image. We all subconsciously draw a meaning from what we
see, we do this by identifying what is known and breaking that down into a simplified meaning. A
majority of us see the world visually, yet some people have the ability to reiterate what they see in a
visually poetic manner. A literary poem invites the reader to create an image in their mind,

The process is one step further than simply reading the visual. Visuality is the combination of seeing
and being or as Hal Foster is cited by Alexa Sand the mechanism of sight and its historical techniques,
between the datum of vision and its discursive determinations (Sand, 2012: 90). One text which
epitomises both the importance and envy of the visual is Kathryn N. Benzel s text Modern
In(ter)vention: Reading the Visual . Benzel discusses Virginia Woolf s attempt to become imbedded in
the practice of visuality; Woolf attempted to combine literature and visual art (Benzel, 2003: 322). She
was in awe of the painter Walter Sickert and his ability to portray life rather than executing a portrait
(Benzel, 2003: 329). Woolf attempted to create an aesthetic experience for reader[s] by recreating
Sickert s paintings into a literary experience; As cited by Woolf herself it was the sympathy of the eye
and of the imagination... aesthetic sympathy (Benzel, 2003: 324). In further writings Woolf goes on to
say how imitating a painting is vain and trivial but to writers it is illusive and irresistible (Benzel,
2003: 324). An attempt to describe what visuality is almost as frivolous and Woolf s plight to recreate
paintings into a literary piece. Visuality is seeing and it is being, but one cannot trivialize both in to a

Rhetorical Analysis Of Advertisement
An old saying that comes into play when just glancing at this advertisement, An apple a day keeps the
doctor away. is an old saying pediatricians would say to their miniature patients. Who would know
this could grab attention of people just watching TV? An Apple a Day illustrates four Granny Smith
apples on one side of the ad while a slice of a Granny Smith apple sits on the other side of the ad. The
product the advertiser is selling has more to offer than the other companies which, is shown by the
whole apples and the slice of an apple. The small description underneath the Granny Smith apples has
a formal, yet demanding tone that provides information about the product. In the fine print, it has
some details on how their company is one of the best. Then below the small caption is a large, bold
black logo followed by the contact information of the company all directed towards drivers. An Apple
a Day is trying to connect with middle class drivers looking for better quality insurance for an
inexpensive price.
The An Apple a Day advertisement is appealing to audience s ethos of the product. According to
Quick Access: Reference for Writers, ethos is confidence in the writer s reliability and trustworthiness.
(Troyka and Hesse 19). In other words, ethos is credibility or trust. The small print is what seems to be
something people skip over when skimming an ad, but in this case, it is something people should pay
attention to. The apple itself is healthy, which appeal

Analysis Of Maya s The Maya
Maya Secrets Locked in Stone
Maya scholars debated for decades over the fate of the Maya. Recent evidence from an unlikely
source, points a sustained drought in the 9th and 10th Centuries.
Stalagmites and Stone Carvings Offer Clues on the Collapse of the Maya Civilization
Circa 900 A.D., the Maya world fell apart. How could an ancient Meso
American civilization flourish for hundreds of years only to fade into the forest? That riddle has
perplexed scholars ever since 19th century explorers
John Stephens and Frederick Catherwood first stumbled upon moldering ruins to discover lost cities,
vine covered temples and an infrastructure worthy of a small kingdom.
Although the full extent of what befell Maya cities like Tikal and Copan, on the Yucatan Peten
Peninsula in present day Mexico and Central
America, remains a mystery. Research points to a change in long term weather patterns likely brought
about their decline. Part of a growing body of evidence, popularized by academics, like Jared
Diamond, that a prolonged drought preceded by abundant rainfall had turned prosperous Maya city
states into desolate ghost towns.
A Cave Yield s Clues
Recent studies have shed new light on this phenomenon. According to a paper published in Science
magazine, between 820 and 870 A.D., the Maya received 40 percent less rainfall than in prior decades.
Scientists surmise that the lack of rainfall tore at the social fabric of the Maya civilization. The
findings are based on the

University Health Systems Is The Leading Trauma Center For...
The organization that I have chosen is University Health Systems also known as Bexar County
Hospital. University Health Systems is the leading trauma center for South Texas.. The medical
benefits that are offered can only be used within the organization and the family medical offices. The
University Health Systems is a large organization that is part of the medical school; as well it is the
County Hospital where all the inmates go for treatment. They are expecting every employee to use or
go though the county clinics to seek treatment, which is a challenge in itself as the clinics, are so busy
on any given day or night. There are many reasons to rethink the compensation and benefits that this
organization offers employees. They do offer a large PTO amount each payday; however that is used
for everything such as, sick leave, holiday pay, and vacations. If one of the departments is closed for
the holiday then you are forced to take PTO even if you do not want to. During the first year of
employment, full time staff accrues 28 days at the rate of 8.62 hours every two weeks. The accrual
rate increases with each year of full time service, up to a rate of 38 days per year (University Health
Systems, 2015). Another benefit that is offered is a 457 account in which the company will match 25
cents on the dollar. That is not a very good retirement plan. When looking at the organization as a
whole, there must be some way that the compensation benefits can be re evaluated and

  • 2. Essay about Thornton Wilder s Our Town Thornton Wilder s Our Town Our Town is play written a while ago, but it relates to any time. Showing that routine is a part of everybody s life. No matter what day and age you live in your going to have a routine. This play shows an example of two families and their daily routines. The whole play relates to routine even the different acts. Our Town takes place in Grover s Corner, New Hampshire around the turn of the century. (1900 s). This play uses a lot of flashbacks. There s one with George and Emily when they first fall in love at Mr. Morgan s shop. It also uses foreshadowing. When they told of how everyone died. Another flashback is when Joe comes back after about ten years and they talk about the dead and everyone s lives. George ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dialect throughout this play was universal. It could be used in many different areas and/or time periods. I thought that the dialect used throughout this book was very similar to how people around Garden City talk. Blessed be the tie that binds is played a lot in Our Town. This song ties in with the theme perfectly. Showing how everything is connected and how we miss all the small things in the world. The staging is kept very simple. This allows you to think up what they are describing. Which lets you use your imagination to make it look as you wish. There isn t much to the stage as I said they keep it simple, for example: for the wedding all they have are chairs set up in rows. The lighting is low making it easier for you to make your own stage with your imagination. This play could actually have two themes. Living life to the fullest, and appreciate the small things in life. I believe the author wrote this play to show that no matter what the time is or where you live your going to have a routine and the cycle of life. The theme is really developed when Rebecca is at the grave yard and goes back for her day of life. She realizes that she never appreciated things that mattered. The value of this play today is great because it relates to us as it will continue to do so for some time. I believe the title Our Town is good for this play. It shows that it can be any town and anytime. I didn t really like that play, but I did ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Short Stories About Failure And Help, Perseverance, And Faith I am honored to be speaking here today. Eighth grade was a fun, but tough year. At the beginning of eighth grade I was excited and worried for the year to come. Now I think of this year and I think of how fast it went, the fun I had, and the troubles I had. I think of how I am going into high school. It s hard to believe. I am not here to talk to you about freaking out about high school. I want to tell you about eighth grade and what you will experience. I have three stories to tell you. Only three. Three stories about failure and help, perseverance, and faith. The first story is about failure. Failure is something I was afraid of, especially in math. I never wanted to fail. I wanted to try my best and do amazing on everything. Sadly, being perfect isn t how the world works. In math, at the end of the year, I was really worried about a unit we were doing. At first I thought I knew what I was doing. I had a good handle on the problems in class and on the homework. When it came to the first quiz, I failed it. When I saw the score on the computer screen I almost burst into tears. I was harder on myself than anyone was on me. I knew I tried my best, but I didn t feel like it. I had never failed before. The teacher came around the next day and asked if I needed any extra help. At first I was thinking, no. I do not need help. Later that night I changed my mind. I went to her class during my lunch and she answered my questions and helped me on some practice problems. Zhong Zheng Mark Sniderman, Ph.D. Econ 376 8th Nov 2014 Short Paper #3 Many large complex financial institutions found themselves of liquidity at the beginning of the crisis and as it progressed. I think they were surprised. The trigger for the liquidity crisis was an increase in subprime mortgage defaults, which was first noted in February 2007. The bank centered nature of the crisis made it harder than in the past for banks to attract deposits and provide liquidity to borrowers shut out of securities markets. Banks may not be able to provide liquidity in a financial crisis. The reason for this is that a bank centered crisis may lead investors to concern about the safety of bank deposits, even with deposit insurance. Therefore, ... AIG s stock price fell more than 90 percent, capping off a large decline from the previous days in September 16, 2008. The AIG bailout was extended by a further 37 million in October and another 40 billion in November. An originate to distribute model of lending, where the originator of a loan sells it to various third parties, was a popular method of mortgage lending before the onset of the subprime mortgage crisis. This originate to distribute model had advantages over the old originate to hold model, where a bank originated a loan to the borrower and retained the credit risk. People believe that originate to distribute model of banking played a key role in the development of the financial crisis because instead of holding loans on banks balance sheets, banks moved to an originate and distribute model. Banks repackaged loans and passed them on to various other financial investors, thereby off loading risk. Next, banks increasingly financed their asset holdings with shorter maturity instruments. This change left banks particularly exposed to a dry up in funding liquidity. However, Gary Gorton has a different perspective. He believes that originate to distribute model claims that securitizations should not end up on bank balance sheets. There is no basis for his idea. In fact, there is an important ... • 12. Assembly Line History Benjamin Slade SS3510 December 7, 2016 Analytical Essay History of the Assembly Line Back during the second World War, my grandma had to go into the factories to work. At that same time, my grandpa, her husband, was over fighting in the war. She was a Rosie the Riveter and went into the factory to work for General Motors. Sadly, she is no longer with us so everything I have learned about her in the factory are stories that have been passed down. General Motors at that time was making anything from tanks to ammunition casings (Carroll, n.d.). I was unable to track down what exactly my grandma was working on but at that time she lived in Pontiac, Michigan and many plants around there were producing a variety of different products for the war. These fifteen million cars accounted for over half of all automobiles that were sold by that time (McKenzie, 2015). Also, in the 1920s, the assembly got a slight upgrade. The original rope and pulley assembly lines were upgraded to mechanized conveyors. The next big upgrade to the assembly line was in the decade of the War. This is when robots were first introduced to the assembly lines. This was developed by the vice president of manufacture, Delmar Harder. This was a chance to see what automation could possibly do for the line. These robots did not run purely by themselves, the workers still played a large role. With this new found knowledge, Ford was able to open a self regulating plant for sheet metal stamping. Continuing with the development and improvement of the assembly line, in the 1960s, new machines were invented that allowed for five axes of motion. These devices were called the Versatran , and were installed a Ford factory in Ohio. But later in the decade, robots became even more complex adding another axis it can work ... Obviously this strategy will help Clearwater to gain more customers loyalty, and probably they will get more orders. But on the other hand, after all the company was changing the product system because they want more profits, the pricing strategy provided by Rob was clearly ran in the opposite direction. I think it s a little be less aggressive for the product manager to actually decrease their prices. Fortunately the profit margin for the QTX is good enough, so they can still make remarkable profit on it. 3. • 20. Pascal s Wager Argument Analysis According to Pascal, one cannot come to the knowledge of God s existence through reason alone, so he suggests that the wise thing to do is to live your life as if God does exist. The reasoning behind this is that, a life like that has everything to gain and nothing to lose. He believes that, if we live as though god exist, and God does indeed exists, we will have infinite happiness(heaven). Even if the God doesn t exist at the end, we have not lost anything. Pascal then states, if we live as though God doesn t exist and God really does exist, we will be in infinite torment (hell and punishments). If we weigh the two options, it is quite clear that the obvious choice would be to live as if the God exists. He essentially concludes that the potential benefits of believing in God outweigh the potential of not believing in God. There are many objections to this argument and the one of the famous one is, we cannot force ourselves to believe in God. This argument denies the Pascal s Wager, because believing in God isn t something we chose, and a person cannot make himself/herself to believe in God if he/she doesn t. This objection ... Pascal only asks us to believe in God with no evidence that such belief would be true. Therefore he asks us to believe without a reason, which shows that the argument he makes is quite weak. For example: If a person offers another person 2 million dollars for believing that the sky is red. Can that person sincerely belief in such a thing by simply just wishing to? Clearly ... In the United States, it took many years to gain universal suffrage, or the ability of all citizens to have the right to vote. In the late 1700 s only about 5% of Americans were eligible to vote (wealthy, white, males of certain religious affiliations). By the early 1800 s, the properly ownership and religion requirements were dropped allowing most white males to vote. Even though the 14th amendment gave citizenship to everyone born or naturalized in the country, the first real legislation towards giving men of color the right to vote was the 15th amendment. The amendment ratified in 1870 stated that the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude [library of congress, 1]. Technically speaking, this federal legislation should have been given the blacks the right to vote regardless of their status. However, this was not popular with the white establishment in the southern states in particular, as they quickly found loopholes and other techniques until 1965 to effectively block the votes from being cast.
