Evolution Of Football Equipment
Over the course of a 144 year old game, the equipment used in the sport of football has evolved
tremendously. For my research paper, I am going to talk about the specifics of how such equipment
has evolved, why it has evolved, and how it has or hasn t benefited those participating. The most
relevant equipment evolutions that will be discussed will be the shoulder pads, face mask, mouth
guards, pants, and helmets. The one piece of equipment from that list that will be touched upon the
most will be the helmet as it brings upon the ethical concern of concussions in the game. I will talk
about how these technological advances are made to improve upon safety, but safety may just be from
the choice of the players. With regards to specific rules

Garage Sale Research Paper
If you re like most people, you can t resist a garage sale. There s something about going through
someone else s stuff or maybe it s the hunt, the hunt for a bargain. No matter what the reason, garage
sales are a great way to force yourself to sort through your things and get rid of some stuff to lighten
your move and make some money, money that can be used to haul the rest of your belongings to your
new place. As you ve begun packing, you ve probably already covered this step, having sorted through
your things and how to decide what to move and what to leave behind. But if you re like me, you first

that someone else won t treasure it. Even if you only have one item left from a set, such as one glass,

The Apartheid Of The South African Apartheid Essay
Introduction
Canada s Apartheid which can also be known as Canada s Indian Act of 1876. This system of racial
intolerance inspired the South Africa s oppressive regime and lead way to the better known Apartheid
in South Africa. However, since the South African Apartheid was based on our model shouldn t it
simply be known as The Apartheid ? It is interesting to note the varying global images each of these
tragic systems have had. As a student, born and raised in Canada, it is deeply troubling that I first
learned about the South African Apartheid before I learned about Canada s. It is therefore, fascinating
to see how the South African Apartheid created a global awareness and gained support against the
system of segregation while the Indian Act opponents where silenced and the world failed to notice.
Both political systems of discrimination where based on race, both had detrimental compounded
effects on current and succeeding generations. While all groups of race where segregated, not all
groups where segregated evenly. Throughout this paper I will be looking to examine the similarities
between the Coloured group of the Apartheid and the Metis Nation of the Indian Act.
South Africa s Apartheid
Segregation between white and black long preceded the apartheid, however, this remained the prime
objective in the creation of the apartheid state. This system created a racial hierarchy which started
with franchise restrictions imposed by the Parliamentary Registration Act of

The Theory And Major Components Of Gas Chromatography
A gas chromatograph (GC) is an analytical instrument in which measures the content of a variety of
constituents within a sample. The analysis in which a gas chromatograph is operated is called gas
chromatography. Figure 1 below is a basic representation of the instrument and the following
statement is a simple representation of the overall process of a GC: It is a technique in which a sample
solution is injected into the instrument through a septum, where it introduced into a gas stream that
transports the sample into a separation tube known as a column. The assorted components of the
sample are separated within the column. After the separation has been completed within the column a
detector will quantitatively measure each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The selection of the gas is important, as each performs differently with the type of detector that is
being operated. The three most commonly selected gases for an experiment involving a gas
chromatograph are hydrogen, helium, and nitrogen. Diffusivity and viscosity are two characteristics
that will influence the performance of these gases.
The diffusion coefficient, also called diffusivity is a parameter that is indicative of the diffusion
mobility that is, it presents a mechanism for measurement for the diffusion speed of a solute s vapor in
a gas. The speed of chromatography is determined by the diffusion speed of the solute in the carrier
gas. A molecule evaporating from the stationary phase and proceeding into the stream of gas should be
capable of diffusing back into the stationary phase before having to undergo the partitioning process
again. It is this diffusion of molecules that set apart the gases. In order to obtain a good separation, the
most desired carrier gases are those that come in contact with the column a significant number of
times. There is a limit to this however, the more time that the gas is given for radial diffusion
(diffusion in the direction of the stationary phase), the more time there is for band broadening
(longitudinal diffusion). For this reason there is an optimal gas velocity, where it supplies maximum
contact with the stationary phase and minimum band broadening in the gas phase.

Tracy Smith s Poems
Is there a future to look forward to beyond life itself? This is a thought that is often posed in, famous
poet, Tracy K Smith s poems as well. She has been named the U.S. Poet Laureate and has written
several successful, meaningful poems in her career. No one knows what is after life, but could one at
least have hope for what is to come to be pleasant or look forward to whatever the future holds. Smith,
in several of her poems such The Universe as a Primal Scream and Flores Woman, displays a hope for
better events to come, despite the pains and hardships she faced during the course of her lifetime.
The Universe as a Primal Scream clearly provides a questioning emotion on the topic of what is to

Indonesian island of Flores just 18,000 years ago (Nature). After reading this article, Smith wrote
about one of the flores women and the things going on around her, such as the sounds she heard, the
colors she saw, and reasons her people hunted, which was because everyday they had a dance against
hunger (Smith 10). She then continues her poem no longer concerning those everyday details, but
focuses on what the woman may have felt and urned for. Smith writes about, a rage of waves that

sea leads to a horizon which depicts the unknown and mysterious future or place that is unfamiliar to
these people of Flores. Even though this Flores Woman does not know what is beyond the horizon,
she still wishes to venture past what is familiar to her. Through this poem, one can feel the desire
Smith has to seek more than what she knows to be true and the hope present that whatever lays ahead
is worth exploring. Evident through her portrayal of the flores woman having a want to go forward

The Darkside of Whistleblowing
Being a Whistleblower Advantages and Disadvantages Whistleblowers are strong and brave people,
for example employees, who recognize a wrong behavior of someone or their organization and want to
do something against it in order to see that this behavior, or the wrong actions taken, are corrected for
them it is a matter of ethical responsibility, and they need to do it to feel comfortable in their skin. An
advantage of this behavior is that the Whistleblowers feel a deep satisfaction making a substantial
contribution toward the welfare of society. Of course, personal gratification isn t the only benefit of
becoming a whistleblower. For example, in qui tam cases under the federal False Claims Act,
Congress decided to give whistleblowers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But by the time he recognized he could gain profit out of blowing the whistle on this case, he followed
the wrong path. Instead of telling the right people inside the company, he collected material to prove
his theory and did not hesitate to trap colleagues which weren t really part of the fraud, just to get a
good amount of money for him out of it. So he chose his own interests above the interests of the
organization. The Federal Government as a representative of the United States had to act on behalf of
all people who had an interest in this case, such as doctors or competitors in the same industry. Federal
Government acted under the assumptions of the utilitarian approach. The utilitarian approach to
ethical decision making says that the ethical choice is one that produces the greatest good for the
greatest number (R.L. Daft D. Marcic, 2013).
Assessment of the actions taken by Douglas Durand and the Federal Government
According to Alex Storey (2009), in the old days, you were expected to be loyal or be fired. Durand
refused to be loyal to his company and chose to follow the ethical individualism approach. The
individualism approach suggests that actions are ethical when the individual s best long term interests,
because with everyone pursuing self interested, the greater good is ultimately served (R.L. Daft D.
Marcic, 2013). Because most people try to get the best for their own interest, there might be a great
understanding for the behavior of Douglas Durand

Robert Boyle Essay
Robert Boyle (1627 1691) Robert Boyle was born at Lismore Castle, Munster on 25 January 1627, the
fourteenth child and seventh son of Richard Boyle, 1st Earl of Cork. Robert Boyle was educated
mainly by tutors and himself. He had no formal university education but read widely and made contact
with many of the most important natural philosophers of his day, both at home and abroad. He had
independent means which enabled him to have his own laboratory and to support religious charities.
He was active in the Invisible College , an informal body devoted to the new philosophy which in
1663 became the Royal Society, of which he was a Council member. He moved to Oxford in 1654,

Philosophy, and the work of ancient and recent atomists, although he says that in his early days he
refrained from reading them carefully because he feared that he might be seduced by their reliance on
pure reason rather than observation and experiment. He hoped to provide empirical evidence relevant
to their views. Perhaps Boyle s most interesting and influential contribution was his corpuscular or
mechanical hypothesis , probably the fullest and most detailed development of physical atomism up to
his time. His work on this begins in earnest in The Sceptical Chymist (1661) but it receives its clearest
exposition in The Origin of Forms and Qualities (1666), and he returns to it in many of his later
works. A useful summary of its basic principles is to be found in his About the Excellency and
Grounds of the Mechanical Philosophy (1674). Boyle leads up to his hypothesis by considering in
detail and attacking the forms of explanation and their basic concepts that he found natural
philosophers using in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. They fall into two main classes
which sometimes overlap: those favored by the chymists or spagyrists , and those favored by the
Aristotelians or

Abstract
Divorce causes many problems for children and has many implications. Psychological implications
include mental health problems and behavioral problems. Social roles are turned inside out and upside
down. Children are often pulled in many directions. In the United States divorce is very common and

Because children of divorce are under a lot of stress and tend to worry about a lot of different things,
they can and some do develop mental health issues that can stick with them through their entire
lifetime. Anxiety is often found in children that are going a divorce. However, child with an anxiety
disorder might always think of the negative side of a situation, or may have dreadful experiences even
in pleasant circumstances. It is important to know that in all cases of anxiety a child will worry too
much about things it is when it becomes a long term problem that it may be a disorder or mental
health issue.
Another mental health problem a child can develop is depression. A child with depression may be sad
more often than not, feel guilty or helpless, and may lose interest in pleasurable things or things they
previously enjoyed. Other mental health issues that may arise from the divorce of the child s parents
are antisocial behavior and hyperactivity (Strohscein, 2012).
Behavioral Effects of Divorce on Children According to Marquart (2006), after a divorce the job of
making sense of the two worlds and the conflicts that arise between them doesn t go away it gets
handed from the adults to the children(p. 215). When living with one parent a child may develop a
sense of confusion when it comes to the family hierarchy because of the loss of one or more of the
leader figures in the household (Kumar, 2011). Loss of one of the family incomes and

Election of 1876
The contested election of 1876 has been pronounced by Historians, as one of the most hostile,
controversial, and most disputed presidential elections in American history. Representing the
Republicans was Samuel J. Tilden of New York and Rutherford B. Hayes of Ohio representing the
Democrats. With Hayes being outpolled in the popular vote, Tilden wins. With the recounting and
passing of the Electoral Commission, Hayes wins the election of 1876 and becomes president of the
United States.

enacted. It mandated racial segregation amongst the southern states. African Americans suffered legal

Diplomatic immunity is a form of legal immunity that ensures that diplomats are given safe passage
and are considered not susceptible to lawsuit or prosecution under the host country s laws, although
they can still be expelled. Parliamentary immunity, also known as legislative immunity, is a system in
which members of the parliament or legislature are granted partial immunity from prosecution. It is
important for Americans living abroad to have diplomatic immunity because it means that they are not
susceptible to all of the punishment that the said country has in place. If there were no diplomatic
immunity for those individuals abroad then it is very possible that there would be many more issues
that Americans serving in other countries would face.

Pat Conroy s Memoir The Water Is Wide
Segregation in America has only just recently concluded. But during the writing of The Water is Wide,
the people of Yamacraw Island must infinitely live in their stagnant lifestyle of illiteracy, and
ignorance. The children from the island have received values and beliefs passed down from their
parents. In Pat Conroy s perspective, the government neglected Yamacraw Island and caused these
values and beliefs to remain in use. In the memoir The Water is Wide by Pat Conroy, the author
stresses the impact that segregation and national ignorance has on the people of a socially isolated
town on Yamacraw Island, South Carolina. Mrs. Brown, the first schoolteacher on the island, most
clearly demonstrates the theme of national ignorance. Mrs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Every so often, Mrs. Brown pokes her head in and attempts to steer Pat Conroy s teaching methods
back on course in her favor. Pat Conroy works for a revolutionary change in the students, while Mrs.
Brown s continues a heartless attitude towards the children. One day in class, Mr. Conroy tries to
collect the students prior knowledge. Pat Conroy peruses their psyche s by asking questions, starting
from moderately hard, then gradually decreasing to basic knowledge. He eventually decreases the
difficulty to one incredibly easy question to the normal American. For example, Pat Conroy relates,
What country do we live in, gang? Everybody tell me at once, I exhorted. No one said a word. Several
of the kids looked at one another and shrugged their shoulders (Conroy). This quotation clearly
demonstrates that the government almost completely neglected the students of Yamacraw Island. The
students cannot even comprehend the name of the land that they stand on, which focuses on survival
in the modern world. The title of the book, The Water is Wide, stands as an appropriate choice because
the small river exists as the only thing separating Yamacraw Island from the rich, fulfilled life of the
outside world. When someone crosses the river, everything taught to him or her becomes nonexistent
on this new planet called Yamacraw Island. The people of the Island live a completely different

Essay on Exposure Therapy Compared to Other Therapies
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), specifically exposure therapy, has garnered a great deal of
empirical support in the literature for the treatment of anxiety disorders (Gerardi et al., 2010).
Exposure therapy is an established PTSD treatment (Chambless Ollendick, 2001) and so is a
benchmark for comparing other therapies (Taylor et al, 2003). Exposure therapy typically involves the
patient repeatedly confronting the feared stimulus in a graded manner, either in imagination or in vivo.
Emotional processing is an essential component of exposure therapy (Gerardi et al., 2010). Exposure

Muddy, grew up in Rolling Fork, Mississippi. He was given the name Muddy Waters, because when

Head Injury:
Head injury may occur in any part such as the brain, scalp, skull and the underlying tissues in the
head. It is one of the crucial conditions to treat. Head injuries will be either closed or opened. In
closed injury, the skull will not have any injury or break. The open injury is one which breaks the skull
and penetrates into the brain. The basis of head trauma, head injuries are otherwise called as brain

Subject: Profit or Loss from business
I. Facts:
In early 2010, Walter Hodges became interested in the real estate market so he initiated his
investigation into the real estate market. Mr. Hodges intended to acquire real estate with the intentions
for investment or rental. Mr. Hodge has no previous knowledge or exposure to any real estate rental or
investment industry. As a result, Mr. Hodges began in Spring 2010 to advertise and expose his
business through various promotional avenues such as business cards, flyers, and customer relations.
As Mr. Hodges promoted his business, he also completed a business plan for buying, remodeling, and
renting property. Furthermore, in October 2010, Mr. Hodges ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

2. And why was it alleged that Walter Hodges was not in trade or business during 2010? III. Analysis:
Issue 1.
The issue for decision is whether Walter Hodges is entitled under section §162 to deduct claims on his
2010 Schedule C, Profit or Loss from Business. Upon examination of Mr. Hodges tax return, the IRS
disallowed Mr. Hodges Schedule C expenses because he failed to substantiate his expenses or to prove
that they were ordinary and necessary to his business. Section §162(a) states that all the ordinary and
necessary expenses paid or incurred during the taxable year in any trade shall be allowed as
deductions. Section §162(a) specifies that such expenses must be directly connected with or pertain to
the taxpayer s trade or business that is functioning as a business at the time the expenses were
incurred. Furthermore, Walter Hodges largest expenditure was training classes for $25,000 which was
an educational expense incurred to prepare for a new career as a real estate investor and renter rather
than to maintain or improve skills in an ongoing business or career so it was not a deductible under
section §162 (sect. 1.162. 5, Income Tax Reg.).
Issue 2:
Furthermore, it was asserted that Ms. Hodges was not engaged in the business of investing, renting, or
offering to rent property until March 2011. The taxpayer is not carrying on a trade or business under
section §162(a) until the business is functioning as a

Prioritizing It Project Management Portfolio
Prioritizing IT Project Management Portfolio Prioritizing IT Project Management Portfolio The
realities of shrinking IT budgets and increasing dependence on IT in organizations in recent years has
resulted in a situation in which there is an intense competition for resources needed to execute and
complete IT projects. According to Ross (2007), the shrinking IT budget in the face of increasing
demand has brought new pressures to the IT function. To gain approval and funding for projects, IT
departments must demonstrate that such new project will either result in cost saving, increased sales,
or result in greater enterprise wide efficiency (Ross, 2007). The intense competition for resources

Troy Versus Homers Illiad
TROY VS HOMERS ILIAD

When comparing the movie Troy, directed by Wolfgang Petterson, and The Iliad, written by Greek
poet Homer we can clearly see that although Petterson has made an excellent film he has clearly left
out certain aspects of the Iliad which really define the story.
Both versions portray the Trojan War between Greece and Troy, Achilles killing Hector and King
Priam visiting Achilles to ask for the body of his son Hector back. However both versions do not
portray accurate versions of the fight between Menelaus and Paris, nor do they correctly explain why
Helen has come to reside in Troy nor does the movie portray the proper burial rights of the ... Show

angers Achilles to the point in which he vows that one day Agamemnon will fall under his sword.
We then see a clip of Helen attempting to leave Troy as she believes if she returns to Menelaus it will
prevent more lives from being lost. Hector sees her and persuades her to stay, telling her she is a
princess of Troy now. The next day, Agamemnon as his army march to Troy and demand the return of
Helen or a war would break out. Hector offers up his brother Paris to fight Menelaus in order to decide
who would get to keep Helen. Just before Menelaus can deliver the death blow, Paris crawls to his
brother s feet and hides behind him in cowardice. Hector then delivers the death blow to Menelaus
which sparks of the beginning of the fighting. As the fighting progresses on the battle field we see
clips of Achilles and Briseis and we see that they have begun to fall in love. Achilles makes plans to

opinion there are other people who would go in for a cosmetic surgery to look better and feel good

Sex Appeal: Sex appeal is used by the usage of sexual themes and sexually attractive models. Since
people often face mid life crisis, and are left feeling old and bereft of sexual desire, a sexually

The Dark Side Of War Revealed In Walt Whitman s Poetry
Whitman saw everything about the war even its violence as patriotic. It was an emotional outburst and
then cleansing for the entire country. According to Reynolds, Whitman s recruiting poems, avoided
partisanship, picturing the war spirit as a unifying rather than divisive force... (417). Whitman s works
funneled all of the passionate emotions expressed and experienced during the war and directed them
towards unity.
In contrast, one of Whitman s recruitment poems Beat! Beat! Drums! focuses on the less glorious, yet
still unifying, side of war. The poem begins with the speaker commanding drums and bugles
traditional military instruments to play their music so loudly that their sound bursts through: through
the windows...through doors...like a force of armed men (Kaplan 419). The purpose behind the
speaker s command is disruption. The speaker orders the instruments to go into places of both
academic and religious study ( into the solemn church, and scatter the congregation;/ Into the school
where the scholar is studying (Kaplan 419)). In addition, the music ... Show more content on

In his article, Song of Sanity, David Baker argues that The sacred nature of death in Whitman s poetry
is clear enough (8). The imagery of death appears as the dead in their graves, waiting for a hearse.
Death cannot be separated from war. Just like at the end of the poem, at the end of a war, the death
must be collected. Whitman paints the environment of war without once mentioning soldiers. Instead,
he focuses on the effect of a war fought exclusively on American soil on everyday Americans. The
effects of the Civil War on everyday citizens and soldiers were not lost on Whitman. Whitman, while
trying to define the optimism and vitality of America as a young nation in his poetry, did not hesitate
to serve wounded soldiers that fought in the war. He responds to the shocking and deplorable
conditions of the army hospitals in his poem, The Wound Dresser (Campo

Negative Influence Of Language On Memory
Memory is influenced by several factors, such as language, emotion, and attention. The current essay
will investigate how the use of language can influence recall for a past event. It will begin with
investigating the negative influence of language on memory through the formation of false memories.
This will involve exploring the Deese Roediger McDermott paradigm, the misinformation effect by
Loftus (1975), the fuzzy trace theory (Reyna Brainerd, 1995) and their implications for eyewitness
testimonies. This will be followed by the positive influence language has on memory through the use
of true presupposed information and the implications of this for an educational setting.

There was a finding of 60 percent or more of participants falsely recalled the critical lure (window and
sleep). However they found large differences in the effectiveness; when the critical lure for a list was
king the false recall by participants was only 10 percent. Therefore false recall is only induced
effectively for certain word lists, this variability is a limitation. Expand. Why there was a difference
from list to list. What this means for the theory.
The fuzzy trace theory (Reyna Brainerd, 1995) provides an explanation for the formation of false
memories. The fuzzy trace theory outlines that there are two forms of mental representations stored for
a past event, verbatim and gist. Verbatim memories are more detailed, whereas gist memories are less
detailed and more of an overview of an event. In the Deese Roediger McDermott it is argued that the
false memory is due to the use of semantic gist based memory. This error is adaptive in some everyday
situations because remembering the gist of an event is useful, whereas remembering details of every
event that occurs could be considered unnecessary and difficult (verbatim memory).
Often memory studies involve a list of words or sentences, which is practical because they are
simplistic and easily replicable. However many daily memories are complex and fast moving events
so are not simulated through word lists. Therefore it is important to carry

Positive Impact On Electric Cars
My research question that I would like to further explore is what is holding back electric car sales?
Why have we not gone entirely electric, especially with all the benefits toward the environment? I
believe this question should be explored because whether it be electric cars or cars with an internal
combustion engine, cars are a vital form of transportation and in our everyday life. People use cars as
a form of transportation to get to work, to drive their kids to schools, to drive themselves to the
grocery store, to see loved ones and families. With all this driving, it is important to know the impact
it has on our environment. So far, internal combustion engines have shown negative harmful impacts
towards the environment in regards to carbon dioxide emissions. These carbon dioxide emissions have
shown a positive correlation with global warming which is an important ongoing issue today. It is
important to reduce our carbon footprint in order to preserve the planet for future generations.
Bringing more awareness as to why electric vehicles have a positive impact on our environment is
important because not many people are informed.
Through my research question, I hope to learn whether electric vehicles make a big enough difference
to help our environment. I also want to explore why we have not gone entirely electric and specific
reasons as to why people are afraid of change. People find switching to an electric vehicle to be a huge
lifestyle change. In Graham Rowe s

James Joyce s Dubliners Essay
A Literary Analysis of Dubliners
James Joyce created a collection of short stories in Dubliners describing the time and place he grew up
in. At the time it was written, Joyce intends to portray to the people of Dublin the problems with the
Irish lifestyles. Many of these stories share a reoccurring theme of a character s desire to escape his or
her responsibilities in regards to his relationship with his, job, money situation, and social status; this
theme is most prevalent in After the Race, Counterparts, and The Dead.
In After the Race, the main character, Jimmy Doyle, attempts to escape his responsibilities as a

Farrington also spends more time on his lunch break than he is supposed to (83). Mr. Alleyne also

pay attention to his boss and does not really seem to care whether his boss is about to fire him. The
same day his boss disciplines him, Farrington leaves work because he cannot seem to control his
alcoholism (84). He seems to use alcohol as a way to escape his responsibilities. Finally, Farrington
returns to his work and rushes half heartedly through it. Farrington does not care about the
consequences of his actions and, like Jimmy Doyle, seems to have no foresight as to what the
consequences might be.
In the dead the results of people escaping their responsibilities are shown, in contrast with the other
stories which show actual acts of irresponsibility. Gretta Conroy acted irresponsible when she chose to
marry her husband even though she was not truly in love with him. In this story, the reader sees the
results of Gretta s irresponsibility; she lives an unhappy marriage and causes her husband to feel
depressed. At the beginning of the story the reader learns how much Gabriel cares for his wife and
how he seems to always care for her. As a result, the reader can easily feel bad for Gabriel, especially

Ruby Dress
To summarize this poem, one would say that it is basically about how male artist tend to objectify
their female models in their art because these women are painted Not as she is, but as she fills his
dream (line 14). Also this poem points how these male artist only see and depict women as being one
of two things. They are either an angel or a seductive queen in ruby dress (5, 7). This poem also brings
up how the male artists only focus and feed off of the physical attributes of a women like her face (9).

the author, Christina Rossetti, gets her point across (Bryson, 1).

freshest summer greens describes another type of women that would have been seen in Victorian era
portraits, this being a unknown women who would be depicted in nature (6). The first part of line
seven of the poem, A saint, an angel , is used to describe yet another way a woman would have been

almost evil, sexually depiction of the Victorian queen from line five of the poem. The second part of

Victorian artwork, women were only depicted so many ways and that even though this one model that
is being talked about in the poem is painted as a queen, or a nameless girl, or even an angel, all the
paintings are saying the same thing. They are all saying that these are the only roles that will be given
to women and that women are not seen as anything more than these personas that the male artists of
the time depicted them

Arguments Against Genetic Engineering Babies
Fifty years ago two men James Watson, and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA, the
sequence that makes up everything in life from humans to eagles. DNA controls everything from hair
color, athleticism, cancer, and intelligence through genes. From this discovery, a new field of science
formed called genetic engineering, where they studied the DNA makeup of living things. Eventually
acquiring the ability to modify the genes genetic engineers could modify genes to receive the desired
outcome according to their own design. Starting small using bacteria and gradually getting larger they
began to transfer genes successfully from species to species, these ideas eventually made their way
toward human evolution. Everyone wants their children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

issues that are pending. For example, how can scientist text genetic engineering in an ethical manner?
There are bound to be failures. What if these failures lead to abnormalities? We cannot just discard of

Similarly, Wolfson writes regarding genetic engineering testing and failure Gone also is compassion.
Liberal societies have done better than most in treating the mentally and physically disabled as full
members of the human community. Yet eugenics [(genetic engineering)] unmistakable message to the
disabled is this: Better had you never been born. Better had you never burdened society with your

engineering is to make the recipient happier through upgraded genes, and there are many examples of
people with Downs syndrome who are extremely happy, but also the opposite; there are smart people
who are not happy (Wolfson). So who is to decide what will make a person happy, or better? Some say

even dating back that far, women were seen as less than that of the men. That was not only seen in day

stories. Women were seen as less, not worthy of being spoken to with respect, told to strip down and

  • 2. Evolution Of Football Equipment Over the course of a 144 year old game, the equipment used in the sport of football has evolved tremendously. For my research paper, I am going to talk about the specifics of how such equipment has evolved, why it has evolved, and how it has or hasn t benefited those participating. The most relevant equipment evolutions that will be discussed will be the shoulder pads, face mask, mouth guards, pants, and helmets. The one piece of equipment from that list that will be touched upon the most will be the helmet as it brings upon the ethical concern of concussions in the game. I will talk about how these technological advances are made to improve upon safety, but safety may just be from the choice of the players. With regards to specific rules ... • 3. Garage Sale Research Paper If you re like most people, you can t resist a garage sale. There s something about going through someone else s stuff or maybe it s the hunt, the hunt for a bargain. No matter what the reason, garage sales are a great way to force yourself to sort through your things and get rid of some stuff to lighten your move and make some money, money that can be used to haul the rest of your belongings to your new place. As you ve begun packing, you ve probably already covered this step, having sorted through your things and how to decide what to move and what to leave behind. But if you re like me, you first go through really didn t cut down too much of the clutter. In fact, your move pile is awfully big, while the leave behind pile can fit into a small box. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the third go around, I try to remember the last time I used this item. If it takes me longer than 5 seconds to recall, it goes into the leave behind pile. Just the fact that I m asking myself this question means the item can t be too important. And just because it has little importance to you, doesn t mean that someone else won t treasure it. Even if you only have one item left from a set, such as one glass, one plate or one candlestick, make sure you put it out for sale. People are always on the hunt for odd items and to add to their own collection. However, if you have some things that you think aren t worth selling, try putting them out as freebies . • 4. The Apartheid Of The South African Apartheid Essay Introduction Canada s Apartheid which can also be known as Canada s Indian Act of 1876. This system of racial intolerance inspired the South Africa s oppressive regime and lead way to the better known Apartheid in South Africa. However, since the South African Apartheid was based on our model shouldn t it simply be known as The Apartheid ? It is interesting to note the varying global images each of these tragic systems have had. As a student, born and raised in Canada, it is deeply troubling that I first learned about the South African Apartheid before I learned about Canada s. It is therefore, fascinating to see how the South African Apartheid created a global awareness and gained support against the system of segregation while the Indian Act opponents where silenced and the world failed to notice. Both political systems of discrimination where based on race, both had detrimental compounded effects on current and succeeding generations. While all groups of race where segregated, not all groups where segregated evenly. Throughout this paper I will be looking to examine the similarities between the Coloured group of the Apartheid and the Metis Nation of the Indian Act. South Africa s Apartheid Segregation between white and black long preceded the apartheid, however, this remained the prime objective in the creation of the apartheid state. This system created a racial hierarchy which started with franchise restrictions imposed by the Parliamentary Registration Act of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Theory And Major Components Of Gas Chromatography A gas chromatograph (GC) is an analytical instrument in which measures the content of a variety of constituents within a sample. The analysis in which a gas chromatograph is operated is called gas chromatography. Figure 1 below is a basic representation of the instrument and the following statement is a simple representation of the overall process of a GC: It is a technique in which a sample solution is injected into the instrument through a septum, where it introduced into a gas stream that transports the sample into a separation tube known as a column. The assorted components of the sample are separated within the column. After the separation has been completed within the column a detector will quantitatively measure each of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The selection of the gas is important, as each performs differently with the type of detector that is being operated. The three most commonly selected gases for an experiment involving a gas chromatograph are hydrogen, helium, and nitrogen. Diffusivity and viscosity are two characteristics that will influence the performance of these gases. The diffusion coefficient, also called diffusivity is a parameter that is indicative of the diffusion mobility that is, it presents a mechanism for measurement for the diffusion speed of a solute s vapor in a gas. The speed of chromatography is determined by the diffusion speed of the solute in the carrier gas. A molecule evaporating from the stationary phase and proceeding into the stream of gas should be capable of diffusing back into the stationary phase before having to undergo the partitioning process again. It is this diffusion of molecules that set apart the gases. In order to obtain a good separation, the most desired carrier gases are those that come in contact with the column a significant number of times. There is a limit to this however, the more time that the gas is given for radial diffusion (diffusion in the direction of the stationary phase), the more time there is for band broadening (longitudinal diffusion). For this reason there is an optimal gas velocity, where it supplies maximum contact with the stationary phase and minimum band broadening in the gas phase. Figure 2: Diffusion of a molecule in the gas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Tracy Smith s Poems Is there a future to look forward to beyond life itself? This is a thought that is often posed in, famous poet, Tracy K Smith s poems as well. She has been named the U.S. Poet Laureate and has written several successful, meaningful poems in her career. No one knows what is after life, but could one at least have hope for what is to come to be pleasant or look forward to whatever the future holds. Smith, in several of her poems such The Universe as a Primal Scream and Flores Woman, displays a hope for better events to come, despite the pains and hardships she faced during the course of her lifetime. The Universe as a Primal Scream clearly provides a questioning emotion on the topic of what is to come afterlife. Tracy K Smith is a renowned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In October 2004, Nature provided an article that tells of a tiny group of people that lived on the remote Indonesian island of Flores just 18,000 years ago (Nature). After reading this article, Smith wrote about one of the flores women and the things going on around her, such as the sounds she heard, the colors she saw, and reasons her people hunted, which was because everyday they had a dance against hunger (Smith 10). She then continues her poem no longer concerning those everyday details, but focuses on what the woman may have felt and urned for. Smith writes about, a rage of waves that protects the horizon (Smith 16 17) and speaks from the woman s perspective saying, one day I want to dive in and drift/ legs and arms wracked with danger./ like a dark star, I want to last (Smith 18 20). The sea leads to a horizon which depicts the unknown and mysterious future or place that is unfamiliar to these people of Flores. Even though this Flores Woman does not know what is beyond the horizon, she still wishes to venture past what is familiar to her. Through this poem, one can feel the desire Smith has to seek more than what she knows to be true and the hope present that whatever lays ahead is worth exploring. The Darkside of Whistleblowing Being a Whistleblower Advantages and Disadvantages Whistleblowers are strong and brave people, for example employees, who recognize a wrong behavior of someone or their organization and want to do something against it in order to see that this behavior, or the wrong actions taken, are corrected for them it is a matter of ethical responsibility, and they need to do it to feel comfortable in their skin. The Federal Government as a representative of the United States had to act on behalf of all people who had an interest in this case, such as doctors or competitors in the same industry. The utilitarian approach to ethical decision making says that the ethical choice is one that produces the greatest good for the greatest number (R.L. Daft D. Marcic, 2013). Assessment of the actions taken by Douglas Durand and the Federal Government According to Alex Storey (2009), in the old days, you were expected to be loyal or be fired. The individualism approach suggests that actions are ethical when the individual s best long term interests, because with everyone pursuing self interested, the greater good is ultimately served (R.L. Robert Boyle was educated mainly by tutors and himself. He had no formal university education but read widely and made contact with many of the most important natural philosophers of his day, both at home and abroad. He had independent means which enabled him to have his own laboratory and to support religious charities. He was active in the Invisible College , an informal body devoted to the new philosophy which in 1663 became the Royal Society, of which he was a Council member. He expressed admiration for Bacon s Novum Organum, Descartes s Principles of Philosophy, and the work of ancient and recent atomists, although he says that in his early days he refrained from reading them carefully because he feared that he might be seduced by their reliance on pure reason rather than observation and experiment. He hoped to provide empirical evidence relevant to their views. Perhaps Boyle s most interesting and influential contribution was his corpuscular or mechanical hypothesis , probably the fullest and most detailed development of physical atomism up to his time. His work on this begins in earnest in The Sceptical Chymist (1661) but it receives its clearest exposition in The Origin of Forms and Qualities (1666), and he returns to it in many of his later works. A useful summary of its basic principles is to be found in his About the Excellency and Grounds of the Mechanical Philosophy (1674). Boyle leads up to his hypothesis by considering in detail and attacking the forms of explanation and their basic concepts that he found natural philosophers using in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. They fall into two main classes which sometimes overlap: those favored by the chymists or spagyrists , and those favored by the Aristotelians or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is important to know that in all cases of anxiety a child will worry too much about things it is when it becomes a long term problem that it may be a disorder or mental health issue. Another mental health problem a child can develop is depression. A child with depression may be sad more often than not, feel guilty or helpless, and may lose interest in pleasurable things or things they previously enjoyed. Other mental health issues that may arise from the divorce of the child s parents are antisocial behavior and hyperactivity (Strohscein, 2012). One day in class, Mr. Conroy tries to collect the students prior knowledge. Pat Conroy peruses their psyche s by asking questions, starting from moderately hard, then gradually decreasing to basic knowledge. Everybody tell me at once, I exhorted. No one said a word. Several of the kids looked at one another and shrugged their shoulders (Conroy). This quotation clearly demonstrates that the government almost completely neglected the students of Yamacraw Island. The students cannot even comprehend the name of the land that they stand on, which focuses on survival in the modern world. The title of the book, The Water is Wide, stands as an appropriate choice because the small river exists as the only thing separating Yamacraw Island from the rich, fulfilled life of the outside world. Defining the Market To understand the market it helps to first look at a brand positioning map of the Influence Market (see Figure 1 below). This shows the KII as being unconscious and an internal process. Understanding that influence is internal (looking at the 7 traits that the KII addresses which measure your innate traits, not style or preferences) and unconscious because influence is not part of a person s awareness. The KII cannot measure your influence; rather it measures your potential to be influential. In Figure 1 we see that the market and how it is broken up into different areas including internal process, external process, deliberate, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The Dark Side Of War Revealed In Walt Whitman s Poetry Whitman saw everything about the war even its violence as patriotic. It was an emotional outburst and then cleansing for the entire country. According to Reynolds, Whitman s recruiting poems, avoided partisanship, picturing the war spirit as a unifying rather than divisive force... (417). Whitman s works funneled all of the passionate emotions expressed and experienced during the war and directed them towards unity. In contrast, one of Whitman s recruitment poems Beat! Beat! Drums! focuses on the less glorious, yet still unifying, side of war. The poem begins with the speaker commanding drums and bugles traditional military instruments to play their music so loudly that their sound bursts through: through the windows...through doors...like a force of armed men (Kaplan 419). The purpose behind the speaker s command is disruption. The speaker orders the instruments to go into places of both academic and religious study ( into the solemn church, and scatter the congregation;/ Into the school where the scholar is studying (Kaplan 419)). The imagery of death appears as the dead in their graves, waiting for a hearse. Death cannot be separated from war. Just like at the end of the poem, at the end of a war, the death must be collected. Whitman paints the environment of war without once mentioning soldiers. Instead, he focuses on the effect of a war fought exclusively on American soil on everyday Americans. The effects of the Civil War on everyday citizens and soldiers were not lost on Whitman. • 28. Negative Influence Of Language On Memory Memory is influenced by several factors, such as language, emotion, and attention. The current essay will investigate how the use of language can influence recall for a past event. It will begin with investigating the negative influence of language on memory through the formation of false memories. This will involve exploring the Deese Roediger McDermott paradigm, the misinformation effect by Loftus (1975), the fuzzy trace theory (Reyna Brainerd, 1995) and their implications for eyewitness testimonies. This will be followed by the positive influence language has on memory through the use of true presupposed information and the implications of this for an educational setting. There was a finding of 60 percent or more of participants falsely recalled the critical lure (window and sleep). However they found large differences in the effectiveness; when the critical lure for a list was king the false recall by participants was only 10 percent. Therefore false recall is only induced effectively for certain word lists, this variability is a limitation. Expand. Why there was a difference from list to list. What this means for the theory. The fuzzy trace theory (Reyna Brainerd, 1995) provides an explanation for the formation of false memories. The fuzzy trace theory outlines that there are two forms of mental representations stored for a past event, verbatim and gist. Verbatim memories are more detailed, whereas gist memories are less detailed and more of an overview of an event. In the Deese Roediger McDermott it is argued that the false memory is due to the use of semantic gist based memory. This error is adaptive in some everyday situations because remembering the gist of an event is useful, whereas remembering details of every event that occurs could be considered unnecessary and difficult (verbatim memory). Often memory studies involve a list of words or sentences, which is practical because they are simplistic and easily replicable. However many daily memories are complex and fast moving events so are not simulated through word lists. Therefore it is important to carry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Positive Impact On Electric Cars My research question that I would like to further explore is what is holding back electric car sales? Why have we not gone entirely electric, especially with all the benefits toward the environment? I believe this question should be explored because whether it be electric cars or cars with an internal combustion engine, cars are a vital form of transportation and in our everyday life. People use cars as a form of transportation to get to work, to drive their kids to schools, to drive themselves to the grocery store, to see loved ones and families. With all this driving, it is important to know the impact it has on our environment. So far, internal combustion engines have shown negative harmful impacts towards the environment in regards to carbon dioxide emissions. These carbon dioxide emissions have shown a positive correlation with global warming which is an important ongoing issue today. It is important to reduce our carbon footprint in order to preserve the planet for future generations. Bringing more awareness as to why electric vehicles have a positive impact on our environment is important because not many people are informed. Through my research question, I hope to learn whether electric vehicles make a big enough difference to help our environment. I also want to explore why we have not gone entirely electric and specific reasons as to why people are afraid of change. People find switching to an electric vehicle to be a huge lifestyle change. • 32. James Joyce s Dubliners Essay A Literary Analysis of Dubliners James Joyce created a collection of short stories in Dubliners describing the time and place he grew up in. At the time it was written, Joyce intends to portray to the people of Dublin the problems with the Irish lifestyles. Many of these stories share a reoccurring theme of a character s desire to escape his or her responsibilities in regards to his relationship with his, job, money situation, and social status; this theme is most prevalent in After the Race, Counterparts, and The Dead. In After the Race, the main character, Jimmy Doyle, attempts to escape his responsibilities as a student. Jimmy s father pays for Jimmy to be educated in England, Dublin, and later at ... • 34. Arguments Against Genetic Engineering Babies Fifty years ago two men James Watson, and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA, the sequence that makes up everything in life from humans to eagles. DNA controls everything from hair color, athleticism, cancer, and intelligence through genes. From this discovery, a new field of science formed called genetic engineering, where they studied the DNA makeup of living things. Eventually acquiring the ability to modify the genes genetic engineers could modify genes to receive the desired outcome according to their own design. Starting small using bacteria and gradually getting larger they began to transfer genes successfully from species to species, these ideas eventually made their way toward human evolution. That was not only seen in day to activities but was strongly depicted in detective novels, both the classical and the hard boiled stories. Women were seen as less, not worthy of being spoken to with respect, told to strip down and just all around treated as less of person and spoken to as if they were dog.
