Walsh V. Lonsdale [1882 W. 1127.]
CHANCERY DIVISION WALSH v. LONSDALE [1882 W. 1127.] This is one of the most
frequently cited authorities on the effect of the Judicature Acts so far as the fusion of law and
equity is concerned. Essentially the question down on whether the defendant could bring a legal
remedy (distress) with respect to a lease which formerly would have been regarded as equitable
only (effectively an agreement to grant a lease rather than one in proper legal form). Facts:The
Defendant on the 29th of May 1879, agreed to grant and the Plaintiff to accept a lease of a mill

A. Aspden of the one part, and Robert Bradley of the other part, or such of them as can be made
applicable to the tenancy hereby agreed to be created. When we look at the lease of the
Newfields Mills we find that it is a lease at a rent certain payable beforehand, and the question is
how far that provision can be made applicable to the present very peculiar agreement. That
agreement provides the lessor at his own expense is to find steam power for driving and running,
the machinery, and that the rent is to be ВЈ2 10s. for every loom run, but for the first year the
lessee is not to run less than 300, and afterwards not less than 540 looms. Then there is a
provision that the lessee is to have the right, whenever he shall think fit, to find the steam power
for himself, and in that case his rent is to be 30s. per loom. There is a further proviso that until
the lessee shall find the steam power the engine house, boiler house, mechanics shop, stable, and
yard adjoining thereto shall be excluded from the demise. As I read that it means that when the
lessee once elects to provide his own steam power, the excepted particulars, are included in the
demise, and then the lessor is no longer bound to find the steam power because he has demised
the, very thing that produces the steam power, and the lessee is now the lessee of the engine house,
and the rest, and has to find steam power for

Examples Of Romantic Love In Midsummer Night s Dream
Shakespeare celebrates romantic love but also satirizes it Phyllis Rackin claims that Shakespeare
celebrates romantic love but also satirizes it. In this essay, using the example of the comedy
Midsummer Night s Dream , we will try to argue that the writer uses the notion of love as a
metaphor, in order to explore certain topics concerning human feelings. This play was written in
1595 1596, probably a little later than Romeo and Juliet and deals with the marriage of Theseus,
Duke of Athens and Hippolyta, the Amazon queen as well as all the surrounding events. The other
main characters of the play are Demetrius, Hermia, Lysanderand Helena, the four young Athenians,

Their wedding is not a result of a love story, not even a misalliance. On the contrary, Theseus has
conquered Hippolyta in battle and forced her to submission. Nowhere in the play has Hippolyta
claimed that she loves him. In addition, the other couple of the older generation, Oberon and
Titania, is not governed by pure and innocent love. Oberon appears to be quite possessive and
jealous of his queen. He is so conceited that he desires to punish and humiliate Titania for
disobeying him.Nevertheless, it is not quite clear whether Oberon and Titania are
married.Shakespeare, through the magical world of fairies, suggests an alternativeutopian kind of

Missing Child Experiment
We are going to examine an experiment about a missing child. There will be a group of twenty
college students that we examine leading up to the missing child to experiment. In the
experiment tested, we will see that people fail to notice the world around them. This was seen in
the Missing Child experiment. The child was in eyesight, but the people did not even think to
look. These candidates did not take time to even look at the flyer they were shown. The person,
not noticing a missing person right next to the flyer placed in front of a store can be caused by
several factors, distractions, or even possible fears. All over the world, people are doing this
Missing Child Experiment, and it is astonishing what some of the factors were. One of the causes
mentioned on this experiment was that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It teaches the world, that we should not miss the little things like a sign on a door. Making time
to stop and breathe to read a flyer because that could be the next step to making a miracle happen.
A question that comes up is has the world become so lazy that they on purpose do not want to
read the life that is in front of them? Joe Navarro states this about one of the fellow people that
he had talked to almost twenty years ago, Gavin de Becker wrote The Gift of Fear (link is
external), in an effort to warn and educate us about being more observant and aware. He
encouraged us to look around and to listen to that that inner voice, which is really our limbic
brain telling us to be careful that something is wrong (Navarro). Unfortunately, that is so true. If
there is a prompting that comes up inside of us as a human being, what do we do about it? Most
people overlook it because they are not aware of that inner voice. The inner voice can be the form
of life sign that could save one of those millions of missing children we see all over the world

Abstract
This paper deciphers the growing importance of ethical issues that are associated with the research
that involves human participation. It has brought to light the five basic ethical issues associated
with research and the measures that need to be implemented to eradicate the problems that might
emerge from these issues. It points out the facts that are unavoidable and might cause problem
when freedom of coercion, informed consent, limited deception, adequate debriefing and
confidentiality are not maintained.

Undersatnding People Essay
Different people see the world from different perspectives. In our society, there will always be
misunderstandings between people and those people s reactions will differ. Some choose to mope,
groan, and even get angry about the way that themselves or others are treated while some decide to
try and do something about it. Still, there are others who think to themselves that maybe the best
way to deal with the issues among people is to try and comprehend what they mean and just live by
them. As Benedict Spinoza put it, I have striven not to laugh at human actions, not to weep at them,
nor to hate them, but to understand them. Authors now try to understand actions that people make
instead of ridiculing them. The following explains these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he grows up, the truth comes out and he realizes that his father being an alcoholic is not his
fault. Sanders understands the his Dad s problem was not his problem to deal with. It was
something that had taken over his father long before he could ever stop or take blame. He learns
from this. He learns that this is not the way to live someone s life, so he promises himself that he
will not be like his father. He makes sure that he will never suffer the fate that killed his father.
Another essay, from Judith Ortiz Cofer, is entitled More Room . In a life filled with religion, her
grandmother just wanted to be able to live her days to the fullest. Being so religious, she could
not share the same bed with her husband knowing that if she did, she was sure to have more
children. As much as her grandmother loved her young ones, she knew that if she kept on having
them, it would slow her down to the point that someday, she would be bed ridden. That was not
what she wanted. So, her grandmother told her grandfather to build a room, not for a new child, but
for him. Ortiz is showing the reader that her grandmother still loved her husband, but she had to
separate them in order to achieve personal contentment. After the separation, Ortiz s MamГЎ was

17th Century Eye Movements
In the 17th century, eye movements were studied by direct observations. People were interested in
knowing and understanding the motion of eyes while reading, watching, talking, etc. With the
advancements in technology in late 20th century, experts used contact lenses and video for tracking
and studying the motion of the eyeballs. These studies showed that eyes do not follow a smooth
linear path while reading or observing an image instead it is in fixations and saccades. Visual
attention is better understood by studying eyemovements in details.
As a human being, while reading some text, we usually move our eyes. This is known as the
processing of text in a visual form. In the 19th century, a French ophthalmologist namely Louis
Emile Javal described

Skinner Operant Conditioning Theory
Operant conditioning is the reinforcement of a desired behaviour, learning can be achieved
whereby a response will come to be controlled by association of a consequence. Operant
conditioning is considered to be an extension of Edward Thorndike s law of effect explained as a
person changing their behaviour to replicate positive consequences and avoid negative
consequences. B. F. Skinner, professor of Psychology at Harvard University, expanded on
Thorndike s theory (O Donohue Ferguson, 2001). This essay will analyse Skinner s development of
the theory of operant conditioning. Skinner s theory and the studies he devised will be discussed
and how they support operant conditioning.
Skinner s studies were created to support his theory of operant conditioning. Skinner devised
experiments that were based in a laboratory involved a box commonly called a Skinner Box. The
aim of Skinner was to prove that operant conditioning was a more detailed theory than classical
conditioning; by placing animals inside the box to be observed. In his experiments he used
positive punishment that is adding an undesirable consequence for example electric shocks and
positive primary reinforcement in this case it was food. Skinner using shaping explained as,
instead of rewarding only when the subject exhibit a desired behaviour any behaviour is rewarded
as long as it leads to the target behaviour. The continued reinforcement either positive or negative
explained as the delivery of a consequence that

CLIMATE CHANGESHOULD BE A POLITICAL AND NOT A SCIENTIFIC PROBLEM
Introduction
Global warming has become one of the most important scientific, political and economic issues.
According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the period between 1995 and
2006 seems to have been one of the warmest yet recorded since 1850 relevant variables such as
changes in ocean temperatures, changes in terrestrial ecosystems, the decrease in the extent of
snow and ice in the northern hemisphere, the shortening of the cold seasons, melting glaciers,
reduction in the extent of permafrost and rising sea level, provide clear evidence of that the world
is warming (Miller, 2013). Delay and limit climate change requires long term, large international
effort. The most important is the current via the United Nations Convention on Climate Change has
given, but it is also important to take preventive measures at national level (Gonzales, 2013).
Industrialized countries have made some progress, albeit limited, in curbing GHG emissions
(greenhouse gasses) recognizing the urgent need to develop specific policies, such as the use of
emissions permits, taxes energy and environmental, industrial voluntary measures, regulatory

How Do Tax Laws Affect Young Americans
It sounds morbid, but the truth is there are two things in life that are certain, Death and Tax. In
fact, many before us have died for the right to be heard on many subjects, especially taxation. The
old adage, Taxation without Representation is still prevalent in today s society, especially when
dealing with the young Americans who pay tax and have no voice. Many teens gain employment in
high schooland pay tax, even if it is not a permanent job. Young Americans from zero to 18 years
olds contribute to the National Debt, yet have no say as to how much they are taxed
A number of laws affect Young Americans, yet they cannot stand up for their rights. Depending on
the state, children can be convicted and sentenced as adults and receive sentences of life or death
as young as 14 years old. Young Americans have no say in climate control, health care issues, and
educational concerns, all of which presently and forever will affect them. ... Show more content on

The answer is no one. In fact, politicians contend that it is not worth putting the effort into changing
the voting age since the youth grow up and then gain the ability to vote. Additionally, some have
challenged that young Americans have no understanding of the issues and cannot make an
intelligent decision. Yet how many adults understand or care about these issues and make a mature
decision when voting.
However, the youth can provide insight on many issues and concern, but they have no voice and no
representation. The Young Americans must stand up for themselves, just as the generations did
before us. Let us face it, taxation without representation is alive and well in the 21st Century. The
only way to be heard is to stand up for the right to have a

Organizational Concepts Of Organizational Vocabulary
Organizational Change Vocabulary Increasing my organizational vocabulary is particularly useful
for me given that my organization is in the process of a long term transition due to environmental
changes in moving from a print based business to a digital based business. The company has also
embarked on transformational change starting in 2013 to reduce costs, and increase market share in
emerging markets where the education aged demographics will be growing in the future. The first
change to radically restructure the company from a series of holding companies to one operating
company with centralization of back office systems with shared products that are to be localized
regionally was implemented by the consulting company Deliotte. The company is learning what
does and does not work, and is not revising the organization in response to lessons learned with the
Hay Consulting Group. I reviewed the main change managementmodels to acquaint myself with the
processes both consulting groups have employed, and chose key terms that I have heard during my
experience, or have been introduced to me as part of the course readings. Unfreezing, moving,
refreezing: Lewin s theory involves leadership unfreezing the organizational environment by
causing discomfort for the individuals within the organization to gain acknowledgement and
support for the need for change (Spector, 2013; Zenab Kazmi Naarananoja, 2013). Once
individuals in the organization become aware of the need for

Consumer Discrimination And Sexual Orientation Based...
Earlier this year, the concepts of consumer discrimination and sexual orientation based
discrimination have come to a forefront in American politics and should be dealt with through
federal legislation (Payne, 2015). Two arguments which can be used to argue on the side of
discrimination are the First Amendment used in tandem with corporate personhood and the First
Amendment used on its own. I argue, however, that corporate personhood is not a legitimate
argument nor is the First Amendment grounds for an individual to discriminate against another.
Another defense of discrimination against consumers is the first section of the Thirteenth
Amendment. The elimination and prevention of the entirety of such discrimination could be
carried out through enacting a single two part law. Two defenses of discrimination include a
combination of the First Amendment with each current precedent regarding corporations and of its
own accord. Current precedent is the concept of corporate personhood wherein a corporation is
treated as a person albeit with controversy regarding their treatment (Ripken, 2010). When this
precedent is used in tandem with the provision that the free exercise of religion shall not be
prohibited in the First Amendment, this makes a case that the government may not prohibit a
corporation from exercising a religion (U.S. Const. amend. XIX). The other possible argument
regarding the First Amendment is the individual s right to exercise their religion. Each of these

Japan and Korea are two of the strongest economies of Northeast Asia and have been very
important players in global economy since the start of globalization era. These two economies
have major impact on global economy. Both the economies have experienced various external and
internal challenges. Therefore, it is important that we look at how these economies have been
performing historically, more specifically since 1980s, so that we could get an idea about who
might be a more significant player in the global economy in the future.

Toys R Us Competitive Advantage
Threat of Substitutes Toys R Us has a potential threat from other companies that have similar
products that will satisfy their customer s needs. (Hill, 2015 p. 58) Walmart, Target and Amazon
are just a few of the companies that offer either the same or similar products as this company,
therefore making the availability of substitutes very high. These companies have a competitive
advantage because their products are usually priced lower than Toys R Us. The strategies that
the company used in the past which was low price, low service was fine in the beginning. But
now that concept is outdated and has run its course. Today Walmart and Target are cheaper and
the other local toy stores offer better service (Anonymus, 1999 p. 192) Our society has evolved

Theme Of Isolation In Frankenstein
The film opens on the main character Victor Van Dort, the son of recently wealthy aristocrats,
being forced to Victoria, daughter to a family of even wealthier aristocrats. (Russell) The Van
Dorts are looking to raise their status in society through the marriage to the aristocrats, and the
Everglots are hoping to further bury their secret bankruptcy and get their hands on the money
they, wrongly, assume Victor s family has. At the very beginning, Victor is shown to be a very
reserved, shy character when he is shown alone in his room drawing a butterfly while his
parents sing excitedly about the upcoming wedding. This also emphasizes the drastic differing
opinions about the wedding, and how Victor obviously dreads it. This introduces the classic
character of the old foolish woman through Victor s mother and gives the audience a silent look
into the character of Victor. He is isolated at the beginning by his own will. (Drouillard). Isolated
protagonists are used often in Gothic fiction as seen in another Victor, this one Frankenstein,
who hides himself away to focus on work. Before the wedding, it s very obvious that Victor is
nervous, and the parents are just as worried that he will not perform correctly at the ceremony. As
he rehearses in the woods, Victor manages to properly say his vows, puts the wedding ring on a
hand like branch, and everything goes smoothly. Of course, in a fantasy, nothing truly goes as
planned and the branch like hand is revealed to be a real hand.

The Governor, Bruce King was well aware of the conditions and issues of the prison and
warnings of a prison riot went disregarded. Prisoners began by taking control of south side
Dormitory E 2; within minutes the prisoners had taken four more officers in the dorm hostage, a
fleeing officer left keys behind which gave the inmates complete access to the main control center,
inmate cells, doors and weapons. By midafternoon violent offenders from solitary confinement had
been released and the violence had gotten out of control. The prisoners had a particular area they
could not access, the protective custody area, this area held the mentally ill and vulnerable inmates
it included those inmates convicted of sex crimes and yes, those labeled snitches. Armed with

awe of his father, the structure and the style, together with the content of the memoir, make the
story a powerful reading experience for the audience. The memoir s style is not plot driven; it is a
reflection of a man, his life and his lessons which are a triumph and an experience created by the
author. Gaita s background as a moral philosopher addresses the fundamental human issues, which
creates a moral outlook on Raimond s life. The style of the memoir is very expressive through the
overlap of facts and fiction, Gaita creates a tribute to his father. This is a moving account, gaining
much of its emotional impact from the undemonstrative style. The style of the memoir is a fusion

The friendship and shared conversation enjoyed by his father became a key factor in Gaita s
formative years. Friendship and loyalty are also key themes, explored particularly through the
relationship of Romulus and Hora. Their selfless and enduring friendship owed much to the
values they held in common: truthfulness, integrity, respect for good workmanship, commitment
and the importance of keeping one s word. As Gaita stated, ...I know what a good workman is;

person of his friend Hora, and the example of their friendship. They also shared a morality that
was absolute, in the sense that it was necessary to live well not because it was convenient or

In the beginning of the story, Maria is introduced as a sister in Nonnberg Abbey, Salzburg,
Astria. Unlike other sisters, She loved to go to the hill behind the Nonnberg Abbey. Even though
she caused a lot of trouble and not everyone s favorite, the other sisters tried to treat her nicely.
One day, Mother Abbess, the head of Nonnberg Abbey, thought that Maria might not get use to
being a sister because of her personality. So she called Maria to her and told her that she decided to
let Maria be the governess of the seven children of Captain George von Trapp s family.
By only looking at the first part of the musical, Maria is showed as a bright and casual person that
loves nature. This is shown to the audience, In Scene one, The Nonnerberg Abbey , where Maria...

The Renaissance and Baroque periods in European history played an important role in the
development of humanities in their respectable age. During these periods it established a time of
rebirth in humanisms and improvement of cultural accomplishments. The Renaissance period

throughout Europe until the 16th century. Renaissance means rebirth and humanism of the

emotionally expression through paintings, art, music, literature and politics as its platform. The
Roman Catholic churches became influential during the Baroque period because of religious
transformation as a reaction to the Protestant Reformation. The Roman Catholic Church decided to
use Baroque art to communicate religious and biblical themes to their advantage by requesting
painters to paint religious pictures. Catholic painter Peter Paul Rubens drew inspiration from his
religious background and painted the Marie de Medici to show his respect to the Roman Catholic
Church. The Roman Catholic churches purpose for using religious paintings was to reach the less
fortunate of their society. Those who were uneducated and in the minority sector; by this they
would connect and reach others so that they would return to their belief in the catholic faith. During
the Baroque period the Catholic faith praised the church for their power and influence. The Baroque

The research by Indiana University Professor Johan Bollen shows that their algorithms are capable
of predicting the direction of DJIA with 87 percent accuracy, up to four days before the actual
move happens in the market. Here is an example of their findings.
In the graph the blue line represents the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the red line represents
the predicted model of stock prices based on twitter updates. The trends are separated for better
viewing in the middle and bottom graphs. From the graph we can see that when delayed by
three days, the trends in predicted model of stock prices overlaps meaningfully with the Dow
(top). However, events that the public cannot predict, like the bank bailout pointed to in the top,
can disrupt the accuracy of the predicted model of stock prices. b) Another research study says it
has found a correlation between the social media popularity of key brands and their share price,
and suggests that it might be used as a lead indicator to determine the trend of the stock price as
well. The author of the study, Arthur O Connor, a post doctoral student at Pace University said
that he was able to reliably predict the daily stock prices of three major stocks over a 10 month
period. He also made three predictions, claiming that Wal Mart, Viacom and Sony each had seen
major recent growth in key social media profiles, implying that the share prices of those stocks

Love Stories In Disney
Since 1937, Disney films have been ruining the lives of children. From ideas like raising the
dead with love or receiving advice from talking animals. Disney is turning society into idiots.
The corporation, Disney manipulates children into gullible idiots through their own
imaginations with unrealistic love stories, absences of science and morals of good versus evil.
Although love is seen as ideal in society, Disney has warped it into a classic boy saves girl. This
is a universal theme for most classic Disney films such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White,
etc. Moreover, Disney has used saving damsels in distress to captivate its audience. Thus
creating these unimaginable love stories. For example, a prince searches for the maiden
Cinderella after she drops her glass slipper (Cinderella). In normal society men would hardly go
to such extents. However, Disney has yet to dabble in the art of same sex love stories, still they
feel beastility works. Hence The Beauty and the Beast. These ideas have been ruining how
women, especially little girls see their happy ever after. Disney s love stories always carry some
magic element to them thus making them even more unrealistic. Often in Disney films, the use of
magic is emphasised to add to the plot line, such as genies, fairy godmothers, shapeshifting, true
love s kiss, and so on. Magic takes the science out of the film thus making the children watching,
have overly complex imaginations that do not fit reality. They will

Ontological Argument On The Existence Of God
Is God prevalent in modern philosophy? How can one determine such a conclusion without
definitive proof of it s existence. Within this essay I will be addressing the topic of the existence of
God, I will examine proofs such as the Ontological Argument and Cosmological Argument. In doing
so testing its advantages while also providing contradictory arguments as posed by philosophers
such as Kant and Hume.
The first ontological argument for the proof of Gods existence was posed by St.Anselm of
Canterbury (1033 1109 C.E), he reasons the existence of God from the idea of a being than which
no greater can be conceived . According to St.Anselm God is defined as the greatest thing at which
we could possibly imagine, moreover he exists as an abstract ... Show more content on

Following this premise all events and beginnings in this world are from direct causation from a
higher being, in this case God. The question in the root of this argument is one involved with the
matter of existence, Why do things exist? . The KalДЃm argument is one which was favored by the
Islamic tradition although later revived later by the philosopher William Lane Craig. This
argument basis itself on the idea that everything in existence has a cause to it s existence, Stephen
Law gives the example that our parents are our direct cause. This leads us to the assumption that
the Universe began to exist and therefore has some direct causation of its existence, in accordance
to this argument only God fits that role. David Hume however disagrees he explains that we can
only establish truth through experience, thus we do not have enough experience in this field or yet
definitive proof, maybe our current state of the universe needs direct causation however we do not
have enough knowledge of universal origins. Furthermore Bertrand Russel introduces the notion of
Infinite Regress , he says that the universe is just there and that s it maybe the world we know is
not that of an act of creation but rather that one caught in an infinite cycle of regressed causes. This
argument poses that we cannot accredit everything that has

Native American Traditions And Traditions Of Clothing,...
The Navajos did not make war just to steal and kill; they earned their reputation as warriors
fighting to protect their lands, properties, and families and a just cause it was. The Navajo tribe
is one of the oldest and is the largest tribe in the United States and branches from the Apache
tribe. Their characteristics and traditions of clothing, shelter, and food are still around today.
This tribe is known for their peacefulness and religious beliefs and 0many experts consider their
lifestyle to have been a wealth of culture. They were resilient and seemed to recuperate from the
many hardships they faced, even destitution. Navajo traditions were orally passed on to younger
generations from elders, and even other tribes that the navajos branched from. They formed a
very distinct type of religion known as the Peyote religion. This religion was unconventional
compared to other native american religions. Some of their rituals used in healing members of
the tribe could last for days and even over a week. Every aspect of their life involved some type
of religious ceremony. When it came to planting crops and harvesting they would pray, sing, and
dance to the sun god named Tsohanoai for a bountiful year. Not all followed this religion once
Christianity was shared with them. In more modern times between twenty and fifty percent now

Weak Figurative Language
AJR s song Weak ,addresses the struggles of battling temptations and coming to terms with them.
The song portrays a young man fighting to gain control over his habits, but inability giving in,
convincing himself there s nothing wrong with being weak. Consequently the speaker begins to
associate love and joy to submitting to his temptations. Weak makes use of many types of
figurative language to convey this theme of giving in to temptations. Although there are many
examples of figurative language the most prevalent forms are metaphors and similes. The speaker
states: But temptations of trouble on my tongue, troubles yet to come ( 2 ). This metaphor
comparing trouble to being on the end of his tongue is used to represent how temptations are
surrounding the speaker, and how he is growing closer to falling for them. This quote plays a major
role in the construction of the theme by introducing the reader to the influences the speaker is
attempting to resist. Another crucial quote use by the speaker is: My habits, they hold me like...

The speaker states: One sip, bad for me/ One hit, bad for me/ One kiss, bad for me ( 3 5 ).
Although in moderation none of these things are truly bad for health the speaker uses this
combination of hyperboles and refrain to emphasize how it only takes one time to become
addicted. This series of lines reveals the speaker s awareness of his addictive personality and
trying to prevent addiction but he ultimately fails. The Final example of refrain is when the
speaker writes: I m weak/ But I m weak, and what s wrong with that? ( 13 14 ). The repetition of
these two lines throughout the song play a major part in depicting the speaker going back and
forth trying to convince himself it s ok to be weak in order to coax with his bad deeds. This use of
a coaxing mechanism shows the speaker has completely given in to his temptations and accepted his

Through textual analysis I discovered that in three of the main themes excluding the latter there had
been significant development. Comparing two of the themes:Bond relationship and treatment of
the women and their importance to the plot in films throughout the franchise, I found that in
earlier Bond films throughout the Sean Connery era (Dr No. to Never say never again) and the

in a more subordinate role to Bond. In Goldfinger Bond slaps a girl on the bottom and tells her man

tricks solitaire into having sex with him by fooling her with trick cards in Live and let die. He

embodies the values of a particular society. A comedy is a literary genre and a type of dramatic
work that starts off with an unpleasant scenario and ends up with a happy ending. The Odyssey, by
Homer, and The Inferno, by Dante Alighieri, are both comedic epics because they both start off

Discuss Some of the Arguments Made Against Globalization...
Globalization is the interaction of world economies to become one big economy, for the sole
purpose of enhancing free trade, growth and efficiency and employment. It emphasizes the neo
liberal economic policies commonly referred to as the Washington Consensus of free trade,
financial and capital market liberalization, deregulation and privatization (Juhasz, pg 408). The
supporters of globalization argue that it is essential to an individual s advancement and economic
progress, and constantly reiterate that an integrated market economy will bring prosperity
worldwide. Whereas, critics of globalization believe that without a proper framework and policies,

These restrictions also show the double standards of globalization policies. If restrictive polices
had been fairly exercised, Japan and US would not have industrialized to such great extent by
importing technology. However, at present the transfer of technological process would be barred
under WTO s Trade Related Investment Measures (TRIMS). But in the past, if New England had
not barred cheaper British textiles by imposing very high tariffs just as Britain had done to India the
United States might have been left out of the industrial revolution altogether (Juhasz, pg 419).
Additionally, the renowned Asian financial crisis occurred when the countries allowed unrestricted
capital flows and opened their markets to IMF. Before the crisis they used closed market policies to
protect domestic entrepreneurs and develop support industries, while importing technology. As a
consequence of these flawed policies, developed nations have open access to resources of
developing nations, discouraging economic prosperity and efficiency whilst increasing income
inequality.
While free trade is always better than trade restrictions and distortions, it can exacerbate existing
asymmetries between rich and poor nations and therefore result into poverty and inequality (Marks
et al., pg 617). The systems in place to ensure free and fair trade do not always

The Importance Of Government Censorship
Social media is the pumping heart that gives life to the information that citizens receive. It is not
the only form of communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our
thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and opinions to other people. It has become a necessity in American
society to use media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously access or send
information. When words are censored, it strangles our ability to effectively communicate what we
may be thinking. Similarly, when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a
nation is hindered. Censorshiphas been employed by other governments in the past as a method to
influence the way a people may think about or view a topic. Therefore, government censorship of
social media runs the risk of encroaching upon constitutional rights due to overreaching information
control policies.
Although there is an ongoing battle for what amount of censorship media sources should enforce,
there are laws that are already in effect such as the Child Internet Protection Act, which aims to
protect children from explicit material, and the Freedom Act, intended to prevent the government
from accessing huge amounts of information that is found in record files. These laws are put in
place to eliminate any sort of overreach from the government because it was going against civil
rights. This discussion of censorship developed further during an interview when the interviewee

Specifically, the Supreme Court case of Plessy v. Ferguson was a major contributor to the civil

Richard Wright s Native Son
Richard Wright s book, Native Son, is considered one of the pioneers of African American
literature within mainstream America (Ann Rayson). The book follows Bigger Thomas s journey
through self realization, while exposing the line of racism and its effects in 1930s Chicago. Yet, for
an African American narrative, the story lacks one key character, a strong woman. The women
Wright includes in his story are only there as a tool to better shape Bigger s, or another man s,
character. While the lack of any strong, female character could be based on Richard Wright s own
life, his presentation of Mrs. Thomas, Vera, Mrs. Dalton, Peggy, Mary, and Bessie all lack the
characteristics required to fulfill the strong female lead that African American literature demands.
Despite of the reasoning behind justification or condemnation for Wright s characters, when
considering Wright s life it is clear that a strong female character was missing. Past criticisms of
Native Son have normalized Bigger s extreme violence and commodification towards women,
given Bigger s character. In How Bigger was Born Wright even argues that all characters are

Strongest Learning Experience
My strongest learning experience was to be patient. I used to not be very patient towards people,
when it comes to common sense or little things like saying your phone number or date of birth. I
easily forget that in different parts of the world the date of birth is given differently. In some
countries, the month is first just like here others the year is first but in most Latin countries the
day is first. Having to asked numerous times during the day for the date of birth of individuals
and for their phone numbers, and they are giving me these numbers in so many ways use to drive
me insane. at the end of the day I would find myself almost screaming on the phone, saying no, no,
that is not the way you suppose to say it. After reading the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I became very upset at myself, and decided to take this as a teaching opportunity. These people

Worldview Of A Christian Essay
Worldview of a Christian
What does the world look like through the lens of a Christian? The answers to this question can be
found directly from the Bible. There are many parts to the Christian Worldview, but the seven main
parts are; what God is like, the nature of the universe, the nature of man, ethics and morality, the
cause of evil and suffering, what happens to man after death, and the meaning of history. The
Biblical Worldview of a Christian is important because it helps us develop our faith in God and
become closer to him. Everyone should have the Biblical Worldview of a Christian.
What is God Like?
God has every excellent attribute. He is infinite, meaning that He never had a beginning nor will he
have an end. This is something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He wanted man to be a free moral agent; having the choice between right and wrong. Man chose
wrong, which caused pain, suffering, and death entered the world as a result. God has power to
stop evil, but it is because of His everlasting patience and grace towards us that He allows our sins
to continue. God did not want to end sin yet, because He did not want to lose anyone. A 2 Peter
3:9 puts it, The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
What happens to man at death?
What happens to believers and unbelievers at death is very different. For believers, death is not a
punishment. After a Christian dies, the soul of that person goes into God s presence, where they
wait until Jesus second coming to go to heaven. In Heaven, there is no suffering, death, and grief.
In heaven, the believers worship and praise God forever, and also partake in meaningful work.
After an unbeliever dies, their soul goes to hell. When Jesus returns, they experience the second
death, which is eternal torment. Hell is a place of fire and burning, where unbelievers go through
weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Gallup Poll Analysis
In today s world, it has become very beneficial when considering social, political, and economic
issues, as well as other challenges, to gather opinions from people who would be affected by
changes in major issues of society. As a result, many businesses have been formed to conduct
polls concerning these issues, and one such polling organization is known as Gallup Poll. The
Gallup Poll is an assessment of the opinions of the public that gathers samples that are meant to
serve as fair representations of the opinion of the whole society around that mere sample. One
specific version of the Gallup Poll, the Social Series , is meant to assess issues that specifically
deal with society, politics, and the economy. But how is the Social Series carried out, and... Show

Any U.S. citizen who is at least eighteen years of age and is living in any of the fifty U.S. states
is eligible. Using Survey Sampling International, Gallup buys samples and randomly selects
members from households. Furthermore, each sample of these randomly selected adults needs a
minimum percentage of 60% cellphone users and 40% who are still using landlines. Because the
United States is such a large country, Gallup has minimum requirements within each smaller
geographical region, and Gallup decides these based on the time zone that the respondents are
living in. For each Social Series survey, Gallup interviews at least 1,000 people, but for surveys
like the Minority surveys, which need a greater percentage of a certain demographic of people,
Gallup adjusts its percentages of these groups of people in order to fairly represent the opinions of
the people they need to represent. The Gallup Poll Social Series conducts one survey each month,

Women in Baseball
Baseball, some would argue, is America s favorite past time. Many can recall their experiences as
they enjoyed the game as a child and then continue to share it with their children. The sport has
brought us many great moments such as when Jackie Robinson broke racial barriers as the first
African American to play in the major leagues. When one thinks of professional baseball, many
times, names of greats such as Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays come to mind. What
many fans over look about America s favorite past time is the period when fewer men were
available to continue their participation in the sport, as many were drafted to serve in World War II.
Not wanting the game to come to an end, the league brought in women hoping the spirit of the
game would continue to thrive. Even though these female leagues were formed, the sport was not
truly the same as the women athletes were held to different standards and not given the same
opportunity as the men who had played the game.
In today s society most people view softball as the female equivalent to baseball but is it really?
Due to social norms it is widely accepted as true. Girls who may have started off by playing
baseball with their local neighborhood friends usually have become fully adapted and successful
in a softball career by high school. Because of social conditioning most parents and children do not
realize that it is acceptable for girls to play on boys baseball teams if there is not an all girls

Essay on Revenge In Two Literary Works
Revenge as a theme is cleverly built upon throughout Hamlet; with it being the driving force behind
three of the key characters in the play. Revenge is a frighteningly vicious emotion, which causes
people to act blindly and without reason. In Poe s, The Cask of Amontillado , Montresor enacts
revenge for reasons unknown. Hamletin contrast, has all the motive in the world to complete his
task; yet he constantly hesitates. The text reveals that the need for revenge creates a stranglehold on
the genuine emotions, thoughts, and actions of three characters: Hamlet, Prince of Denmark,
Laertes; son of Polonius, and Fortinbras; Prince of Norway. This hold makes the characters act
beyond their standard ethical positions and makes them helpless to... Show more content on

He is obstructed from his genuine rational moral view and if he were morally coherent, he would
have seen that taking such drastic action removes himself from his genuine thoughts. In The
Cask , the perspective we are given on the story is limited; which allows for an open
interpretation of what his true motives for revenge are. As Baraban states Montresor elaborates a
sophisticated philosophy of revenge: I must not only punish, but punish with impunity (48)
presenting the reader with a vibrant view of what he intends to do. The question one begs is, for
what reason? Most readers would finish this story and assert that mentally, Montresor is insane.
As Baraban states, Poe s intriguing silence about the nature of the insult that made Montresor
murder Fortunato has given rise to explanations of Montresor s deed through insanity. Richard
M. Fletcher, for example, maintains that Montresor s actions are irrational and that therefore he
is mad. (50) Montresor states at the opening of the story, you,who so well know the nature of my
soul ( are words likely said on his death bed to his confessor; being that he committed this deed
fifty years prior, it would make sense that he is finally coming clean. Moreover, since he is

Plasmasphere Essay
Plasmasphere is a highly dynamics region which can expand and shrink within hours or less during
geomagnetic active times. Previous studies showed that the plasmasphere plays an important role
in energization and/or loss mechanism for electrons in the radiation belt. Therefore, constructing a
plasmapause (the outermost region of plasmasphere) model is key to study the correlation between
radiation belts and plasmasphere in details. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis
for plasmapause modelling by comparing the performances of different machine learning
techniques using different parameter sets. Particularly, this study examines techniques like bagging,

2017 has already existed, this project s major goal is to apply the machine learning techniques
learned in ASEN 6337 and identify the best machine learning tool for this modelling issue. This
hence can serve as a launchpad for the next project that can further improve the plasmapause model
by combining different machine learning techniques. In the long run, this project strives to provide
a comprehensive study on the current machine learning techniques available and determine the best
option for this application. This information can hence be used to further improve the plasmapause.
With a better plasmapause model available, the scientists in the community can study and thus
understand the dynamics of the energetic electrons in the radiation belt and the role of
plasmasphere for the energization and loss of the electrons in the radiation belts. Hence, a better
and more accurate space weather forecast can be built and this allows us to take mitigation
measures prior to the storm events; it will hence help reduce money and/or life loss, especially
during the huge storms events like the Carrington event. This paper will describe the background
that includes the previous plasmapause models, data instrument as well as prior attempts to tackle
this issue, the methodology used that consists of a detailed explanation on how the inputs and
responses (plasmapause locations) were derived, the outcomes of the comprehensive analysis,

How Important Was The Reform Movement In The 19th Century
The conditions in our country have changed for the better since our founding. However this change
did not happen naturally, people had to stand up to make change happen. That is what happened in
the nineteenth century, conditions were bad so the people stood up and made change happen. The
reform movements of the nineteenth century where very important to the improvement of society
because of the education reform, women s rights, and abolition movements.
The education reform movements was very important to the improvement of society because it
greatly improved school curriculum, made a more skilled labor force, and educated more kids.

Analysis Of Disobedience As A Psychological And Moral...
The Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem was written by Erich Fromm. The
author was a writer in the twentieth century. He did various things and had various jobs. The
author talks about the effects of obedience and disobedience. He explains that the world we live
in today will be destroyed through disobedience. Fromm uses mythological and religious figures to
explain how this theory makes sense. Fromm argues that society goes on without accomplishing
freedom through disobedience. Some forms of disobedience are acceptable, but others may be too
harsh and unnecessary. Fromm strongly believes that humans should be disobedient and if not
they will not be successful in life. The first thing that he talks about is Adam and Eve and how
they disobeyed an order, which was when they ate from the forbidden tree. The consequence of
disobeying a request made the ties with Earth tear and their eyes to open. Adam and Eve never
again observed each other as equivalents, they took a gander at each different as outsiders and
additionally their general surroundings. Fromm states that the... Show more content on

philosophies, including the rational and irrational authority. The statement ipso facto submission

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Universal Healthcare System
Every healthcare system in existence has advantages and disadvantages. Each healthcare system
benefits different populations. The universal healthcare system, however, is often believed to be
one of the best healthcare systems in the world. It is questionable why this is presumed because
this system has a number of flaws that creates challenges for doctors, families, and communities.
Many people can find themselves frustrated due to long waiting lists and the seemingly apathetic
work of physicians when it comes to the care of their patients. A previous 5 year resident of
Canada experienced the challenges of the universal healthcare system first hand. In an interview,
she declared that if someone needed to go to the doctor they had to plan... Show more content on

population) [that] can t find family physicians (Grazter). Outside of this province there are places
all across Canada with the same issues. This lack of patient care is impacting citizens to stay in
these areas and even Canada. Universal health care causes a chain of reactions within Canada.
Before it begins to impact patients and families, the doctors are affected causing the most influential
outcomes within the country. A survey done found that 55 per cent of doctors reported that their
practices are being influenced by government driven policies rather than evidence based clinical
medicine and 70 per cent of doctors reported that they are feeling attacked or vilified by the
Canadian government (Gill). These are a selected number of reasons that

Foot In The Door Effect Versus Door In The Face Effect
Foot In The Door
The Foot in the Door Effect is essentially where an individual requests a potential participant to
engage in a simple task in the hopes that they are more likely to engage in a more difficult task
afterwards. The belief behind this effect is that the individual requested to engage in the simpler
task or tasks will develop a sense of confidence or willingness after the task has been completed.
Essentially, after each smaller task, the participant will more likely be willing to engage in the
difficult task. This is what is considered to be a confidence builder and it allows for the
individual to feel more confortable in performing the difficult task. The Foot in the door effect is
also considered to be a technique relatively consistent based on its initial task. In comparison to the
Foot In The Door Effect, the Door In The Face Effect can be defined as the persuaders attempt to
convince their participants to initially undertake a difficult task prior to engaging in less difficult
tasks in hopes for increasing compliance. The belief behind this effect is that the participant will
be more likely to engage in smaller tasks after initially being requested to engage in a larger task.
The prior request to engage in the more difficult task may be thought of as the

Commercial Property Disadvantages
Disadvantages of commercial property 1.Commercial property is susceptible to economic
downturns. 2.The underlying costs may be high. 3.Commercial property can be tough to sell
when values are declining, even when a fund is used. 4.Portfolio use 5.Due to the probable
difficulty in selling commercial property holdings, commercial property is best used to expand
your portfolio instead of as a core portfolio holding. Return expectations from commercial
property There are two possible sources of investment return when it comes to commercial
property. These are: 1.Capital growth: Capital growth refers basically to increases in the value
of property. Capital growth has a tendency to be helpful in times of good financial growth; this
can be uninteresting when growth is slow and damaging in downturns. Just as economic
forecasting has a tendency to be a particularly undependable science, property price forecasting is
likely to be unreliable and pose great differences of opinion. Gains and losses are to be expected,
but may in the end even them out. 2.Rental yield: In due course, rental profit is likely to be a
grander contributor to profits than capital growth, along with being significantly more dependable.
In times when rental yields are great in comparison to government bond yields, it could be wise
time to invest in commercial property. In Ireland and the UK, leases have a tendency to be long,
normally for 10 or more years at the beginning. This means that the rental

Knowledge and Technology in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s Court is a complicated novel that fundamentally deals with
the concept of the human experience. Hank Morgan is a nineteenth century mechanic who is
transported back thirteen centuries to medieval Britain, during the time of King Arthur. After his
initial shock, he becomes determined to civilize Camelot by introducing modern industrial
technology. At an initial look Twain seems to be favoring the industrialized capitalist society that
he lives in over the feudal society of medieval Britain. But in a closer examination of the work it
becomes clear that this observation is much too simple, as the industrial world that Hank Morgan ...

(Twain 40). Hank forgets his own humanity and begins to believe that his knowledge makes him
more of a man, just as the nobility that he shunned believed they were better than the serfs because
of the titles they held.
Hank Morgan uses his superior knowledge of technology to gain personal power. It soon becomes
clear that even though thirteen hundred years have given Hank a technological advantage, they
haven t made him any smarter. Twain himself says of Hank,
...this Yankee of mine has neither the refinement nor the weakness of a college education; he is a
perfect ignoramus; he is boss of a machine shop; he can build a locomotive or a Colt s revolver, he
can put up and run a telegraph line, but he s an ignoramus, nevertheless. (Guttmann 103)
Hank possesses all of this technological knowledge, but fails to understand the implications that
this knowledge will have on the people of the Camelot. Instead of educating the general public and
teaching them how and why something works instead he sends a select few to his man factories .
He uses his knowledge instead to produce fantastic miracles, which although they give him
personal power, continue to perpetuate the superstitions of the populace that he is trying to
overcome. For example, Hank is asked to fix the well at the Valley of Holiness. He installs a pump
that will return the water,

Rate of reactions play a vital role in real life situations. Everyday situations, such as cooking,
require reaction rates to be increased. To bake some cookies, you place them inside an oven. But
why is that? Well, placing the cookies in the oven speeds up the rate of the reaction by heating it
up. When the cookies have more heat energy, they cook faster. Additives may be added to foods
to speed up the reaction. These are called catalysts. Likewise, we place milk in our fridges to slow
down the reaction rate by removing heat and preventing the milk from going bad. This is because
the milk would turn sour if we left it out near a window. (14)
Enzymes are used to speed up biological reactions. When digesting food, enzymes are used as
biological catalysts to speed up metabolisms. Excess heat from this is used to regulate the
temperature of endothermic animals bodies. When a person is ill, their body temperature
increases as heat fights bacteria by slowing down the rate of bacteria production. Respiration is
another example of when reactions are sped up in biological systems. Rates of reactions

The Importance Of Individualism In Society
Being an individual means to be free from society. Mark Twain portrays in his satiric novel, The
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, published in 1884 in the Antebellum South in Mississippi, 14
year old protagonist exposes the immorality of white society. The author s purpose is to criticize
the racism, slavery, and the hypocrisy that existed in the white civilized society in order to enact
social change. Walt Whitmanportrays in his free verse poem Song Of Myself from the collection
Leaves Of Grass published in 1855 that everyone in the universe has a purpose and that purpose
is to be a part of nature. Whitman might express the idea to Twain that everyone in the pre Civil
War era is a part of nature and find solutions from it; therefore everyone has to value nature because
it represents the higher power. James McPherson, author of The Best Government on God s
Footstool, claims in his historical account, What We Fought For, during the Civil War is that why
did they fight. McPherson wrote similarly as Whitman in his writing, What We Fought For, that
informed his readers that both sides fought for their own way of freedom and both had equal
sacrifices. During a time of cultural turmoil the text made by Twain, Whitman and McPherson
expresses ideas of individualism and society when an individual does not conform to society s
expectations during the 19th century.
In Mark Twains The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, Twain s character Huck thinks freedom is
more important that

  • 2. Walsh V. Lonsdale [1882 W. 1127.] CHANCERY DIVISION WALSH v. LONSDALE [1882 W. 1127.] This is one of the most frequently cited authorities on the effect of the Judicature Acts so far as the fusion of law and equity is concerned. Essentially the question down on whether the defendant could bring a legal remedy (distress) with respect to a lease which formerly would have been regarded as equitable only (effectively an agreement to grant a lease rather than one in proper legal form). Facts:The Defendant on the 29th of May 1879, agreed to grant and the Plaintiff to accept a lease of a mill for seven years at the rent of 30s. a year for each loom run, the Plaintiff not to run less than 540 looms. The lease to contain such stipulations as were inserted in a certain lease of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A. Aspden of the one part, and Robert Bradley of the other part, or such of them as can be made applicable to the tenancy hereby agreed to be created. When we look at the lease of the Newfields Mills we find that it is a lease at a rent certain payable beforehand, and the question is how far that provision can be made applicable to the present very peculiar agreement. That agreement provides the lessor at his own expense is to find steam power for driving and running, the machinery, and that the rent is to be ВЈ2 10s. for every loom run, but for the first year the lessee is not to run less than 300, and afterwards not less than 540 looms. Then there is a provision that the lessee is to have the right, whenever he shall think fit, to find the steam power for himself, and in that case his rent is to be 30s. per loom. There is a further proviso that until the lessee shall find the steam power the engine house, boiler house, mechanics shop, stable, and yard adjoining thereto shall be excluded from the demise. As I read that it means that when the lessee once elects to provide his own steam power, the excepted particulars, are included in the demise, and then the lessor is no longer bound to find the steam power because he has demised the, very thing that produces the steam power, and the lessee is now the lessee of the engine house, and the rest, and has to find steam power for ... • 3. Examples Of Romantic Love In Midsummer Night s Dream Shakespeare celebrates romantic love but also satirizes it Phyllis Rackin claims that Shakespeare celebrates romantic love but also satirizes it. In this essay, using the example of the comedy Midsummer Night s Dream , we will try to argue that the writer uses the notion of love as a metaphor, in order to explore certain topics concerning human feelings. This play was written in 1595 1596, probably a little later than Romeo and Juliet and deals with the marriage of Theseus, Duke of Athens and Hippolyta, the Amazon queen as well as all the surrounding events. The other main characters of the play are Demetrius, Hermia, Lysanderand Helena, the four young Athenians, Nick Bottom, one of the six laborers that prepare a play,Oberon, the king of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their wedding is not a result of a love story, not even a misalliance. On the contrary, Theseus has conquered Hippolyta in battle and forced her to submission. Nowhere in the play has Hippolyta claimed that she loves him. In addition, the other couple of the older generation, Oberon and Titania, is not governed by pure and innocent love. Oberon appears to be quite possessive and jealous of his queen. He is so conceited that he desires to punish and humiliate Titania for disobeying him.Nevertheless, it is not quite clear whether Oberon and Titania are married.Shakespeare, through the magical world of fairies, suggests an alternativeutopian kind of ... • 7. Missing Child Experiment We are going to examine an experiment about a missing child. There will be a group of twenty college students that we examine leading up to the missing child to experiment. In the experiment tested, we will see that people fail to notice the world around them. This was seen in the Missing Child experiment. The child was in eyesight, but the people did not even think to look. These candidates did not take time to even look at the flyer they were shown. The person, not noticing a missing person right next to the flyer placed in front of a store can be caused by several factors, distractions, or even possible fears. All over the world, people are doing this Missing Child Experiment, and it is astonishing what some of the factors were. One of the causes mentioned on this experiment was that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It teaches the world, that we should not miss the little things like a sign on a door. Making time to stop and breathe to read a flyer because that could be the next step to making a miracle happen. A question that comes up is has the world become so lazy that they on purpose do not want to read the life that is in front of them? Joe Navarro states this about one of the fellow people that he had talked to almost twenty years ago, Gavin de Becker wrote The Gift of Fear (link is external), in an effort to warn and educate us about being more observant and aware. He encouraged us to look around and to listen to that that inner voice, which is really our limbic brain telling us to be careful that something is wrong (Navarro). Unfortunately, that is so true. If there is a prompting that comes up inside of us as a human being, what do we do about it? Most people overlook it because they are not aware of that inner voice. The inner voice can be the form of life sign that could save one of those millions of missing children we see all over the world ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Undersatnding People Essay Different people see the world from different perspectives. In our society, there will always be misunderstandings between people and those people s reactions will differ. Some choose to mope, groan, and even get angry about the way that themselves or others are treated while some decide to try and do something about it. Still, there are others who think to themselves that maybe the best way to deal with the issues among people is to try and comprehend what they mean and just live by them. As Benedict Spinoza put it, I have striven not to laugh at human actions, not to weep at them, nor to hate them, but to understand them. Authors now try to understand actions that people make instead of ridiculing them. The following explains these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As he grows up, the truth comes out and he realizes that his father being an alcoholic is not his fault. Sanders understands the his Dad s problem was not his problem to deal with. It was something that had taken over his father long before he could ever stop or take blame. He learns from this. He learns that this is not the way to live someone s life, so he promises himself that he will not be like his father. He makes sure that he will never suffer the fate that killed his father. Another essay, from Judith Ortiz Cofer, is entitled More Room . In a life filled with religion, her grandmother just wanted to be able to live her days to the fullest. Being so religious, she could not share the same bed with her husband knowing that if she did, she was sure to have more children. As much as her grandmother loved her young ones, she knew that if she kept on having them, it would slow her down to the point that someday, she would be bed ridden. That was not what she wanted. So, her grandmother told her grandfather to build a room, not for a new child, but for him. Ortiz is showing the reader that her grandmother still loved her husband, but she had to separate them in order to achieve personal contentment. After the separation, Ortiz s MamГЎ was able to live the rest of her life in complete happiness. She gave up the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. 17th Century Eye Movements In the 17th century, eye movements were studied by direct observations. People were interested in knowing and understanding the motion of eyes while reading, watching, talking, etc. With the advancements in technology in late 20th century, experts used contact lenses and video for tracking and studying the motion of the eyeballs. These studies showed that eyes do not follow a smooth linear path while reading or observing an image instead it is in fixations and saccades. Visual attention is better understood by studying eyemovements in details. As a human being, while reading some text, we usually move our eyes. This is known as the processing of text in a visual form. In the 19th century, a French ophthalmologist namely Louis Emile Javal described ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Skinner Operant Conditioning Theory Operant conditioning is the reinforcement of a desired behaviour, learning can be achieved whereby a response will come to be controlled by association of a consequence. Operant conditioning is considered to be an extension of Edward Thorndike s law of effect explained as a person changing their behaviour to replicate positive consequences and avoid negative consequences. B. F. Skinner, professor of Psychology at Harvard University, expanded on Thorndike s theory (O Donohue Ferguson, 2001). This essay will analyse Skinner s development of the theory of operant conditioning. Skinner s theory and the studies he devised will be discussed and how they support operant conditioning. Skinner s studies were created to support his theory of operant conditioning. Skinner devised experiments that were based in a laboratory involved a box commonly called a Skinner Box. The aim of Skinner was to prove that operant conditioning was a more detailed theory than classical conditioning; by placing animals inside the box to be observed. In his experiments he used positive punishment that is adding an undesirable consequence for example electric shocks and positive primary reinforcement in this case it was food. Skinner using shaping explained as, instead of rewarding only when the subject exhibit a desired behaviour any behaviour is rewarded as long as it leads to the target behaviour. The continued reinforcement either positive or negative explained as the delivery of a consequence that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

CLIMATE CHANGE SHOULD BE A POLITICAL AND NOT A SCIENTIFIC PROBLEM Climate change should be a political and not a scientific problem Mariel Falcon Miami Dade College SPC1017 Fundamentals of Speech Fall Term/ TR 5:40 6:55pm Instructor: Kenia Brown CLIMATE CHANGESHOULD BE A POLITICAL AND NOT A SCIENTIFIC PROBLEM Introduction Global warming has become one of the most important scientific, political and economic issues. According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the period between 1995 and 2006 seems to have been one of the warmest yet recorded since 1850 relevant variables such as changes in ocean temperatures, changes in terrestrial ecosystems, the decrease in the extent of snow and ice in the northern hemisphere, the shortening of the cold seasons, melting glaciers, reduction in the extent of permafrost and rising sea level, provide clear evidence of that the world is warming (Miller, 2013). Delay and limit climate change requires long term, large international effort. The most important is the current via the United Nations Convention on Climate Change has given, but it is also important to take preventive measures at national level (Gonzales, 2013). Industrialized countries have made some progress, albeit limited, in curbing GHG emissions (greenhouse gasses) recognizing the urgent need to develop specific policies, such as the use of emissions permits, taxes energy and environmental, industrial voluntary measures, regulatory ... • 13. How Do Tax Laws Affect Young Americans It sounds morbid, but the truth is there are two things in life that are certain, Death and Tax. In fact, many before us have died for the right to be heard on many subjects, especially taxation. The old adage, Taxation without Representation is still prevalent in today s society, especially when dealing with the young Americans who pay tax and have no voice. Many teens gain employment in high schooland pay tax, even if it is not a permanent job. Young Americans from zero to 18 years olds contribute to the National Debt, yet have no say as to how much they are taxed A number of laws affect Young Americans, yet they cannot stand up for their rights. Depending on the state, children can be convicted and sentenced as adults and receive sentences of life or death as young as 14 years old. Young Americans have no say in climate control, health care issues, and educational concerns, all of which presently and forever will affect them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The answer is no one. In fact, politicians contend that it is not worth putting the effort into changing the voting age since the youth grow up and then gain the ability to vote. Additionally, some have challenged that young Americans have no understanding of the issues and cannot make an intelligent decision. Yet how many adults understand or care about these issues and make a mature decision when voting. However, the youth can provide insight on many issues and concern, but they have no voice and no representation. The Young Americans must stand up for themselves, just as the generations did before us. Let us face it, taxation without representation is alive and well in the 21st Century. • 14. Organizational Concepts Of Organizational Vocabulary Organizational Change Vocabulary Increasing my organizational vocabulary is particularly useful for me given that my organization is in the process of a long term transition due to environmental changes in moving from a print based business to a digital based business. The company has also embarked on transformational change starting in 2013 to reduce costs, and increase market share in emerging markets where the education aged demographics will be growing in the future. The first change to radically restructure the company from a series of holding companies to one operating company with centralization of back office systems with shared products that are to be localized regionally was implemented by the consulting company Deliotte. The company is learning what does and does not work, and is not revising the organization in response to lessons learned with the Hay Consulting Group. I reviewed the main change managementmodels to acquaint myself with the processes both consulting groups have employed, and chose key terms that I have heard during my experience, or have been introduced to me as part of the course readings. Unfreezing, moving, refreezing: Lewin s theory involves leadership unfreezing the organizational environment by causing discomfort for the individuals within the organization to gain acknowledgement and support for the need for change (Spector, 2013; Zenab Kazmi Naarananoja, 2013). • 16. Consumer Discrimination And Sexual Orientation Based... Earlier this year, the concepts of consumer discrimination and sexual orientation based discrimination have come to a forefront in American politics and should be dealt with through federal legislation (Payne, 2015). Two arguments which can be used to argue on the side of discrimination are the First Amendment used in tandem with corporate personhood and the First Amendment used on its own. I argue, however, that corporate personhood is not a legitimate argument nor is the First Amendment grounds for an individual to discriminate against another. Another defense of discrimination against consumers is the first section of the Thirteenth Amendment. The elimination and prevention of the entirety of such discrimination could be carried out through enacting a single two part law. Two defenses of discrimination include a combination of the First Amendment with each current precedent regarding corporations and of its own accord. Current precedent is the concept of corporate personhood wherein a corporation is treated as a person albeit with controversy regarding their treatment (Ripken, 2010). When this precedent is used in tandem with the provision that the free exercise of religion shall not be prohibited in the First Amendment, this makes a case that the government may not prohibit a corporation from exercising a religion (U.S. Const. amend. XIX). The other possible argument regarding the First Amendment is the individual s right to exercise their religion. Each of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Isolation In Frankenstein The film opens on the main character Victor Van Dort, the son of recently wealthy aristocrats, being forced to Victoria, daughter to a family of even wealthier aristocrats. (Russell) The Van Dorts are looking to raise their status in society through the marriage to the aristocrats, and the Everglots are hoping to further bury their secret bankruptcy and get their hands on the money they, wrongly, assume Victor s family has. At the very beginning, Victor is shown to be a very reserved, shy character when he is shown alone in his room drawing a butterfly while his parents sing excitedly about the upcoming wedding. This also emphasizes the drastic differing opinions about the wedding, and how Victor obviously dreads it. This introduces the classic character of the old foolish woman through Victor s mother and gives the audience a silent look into the character of Victor. He is isolated at the beginning by his own will. (Drouillard). Isolated protagonists are used often in Gothic fiction as seen in another Victor, this one Frankenstein, who hides himself away to focus on work. Before the wedding, it s very obvious that Victor is nervous, and the parents are just as worried that he will not perform correctly at the ceremony. As he rehearses in the woods, Victor manages to properly say his vows, puts the wedding ring on a hand like branch, and everything goes smoothly. Disney is turning society into idiots. The corporation, Disney manipulates children into gullible idiots through their own imaginations with unrealistic love stories, absences of science and morals of good versus evil. Although love is seen as ideal in society, Disney has warped it into a classic boy saves girl. This is a universal theme for most classic Disney films such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, Snow White, etc. Moreover, Disney has used saving damsels in distress to captivate its audience. Thus creating these unimaginable love stories. For example, a prince searches for the maiden Cinderella after she drops her glass slipper (Cinderella). In normal society men would hardly go to such extents. However, Disney has yet to dabble in the art of same sex love stories, still they feel beastility works. Hence The Beauty and the Beast. These ideas have been ruining how women, especially little girls see their happy ever after. Disney s love stories always carry some magic element to them thus making them even more unrealistic. Often in Disney films, the use of magic is emphasised to add to the plot line, such as genies, fairy godmothers, shapeshifting, true love s kiss, and so on. Magic takes the science out of the film thus making the children watching, have overly complex imaginations that do not fit reality. They will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This argument basis itself on the idea that everything in existence has a cause to it s existence, Stephen Law gives the example that our parents are our direct cause. This leads us to the assumption that the Universe began to exist and therefore has some direct causation of its existence, in accordance to this argument only God fits that role. David Hume however disagrees he explains that we can only establish truth through experience, thus we do not have enough experience in this field or yet definitive proof, maybe our current state of the universe needs direct causation however we do not have enough knowledge of universal origins. If restrictive polices had been fairly exercised, Japan and US would not have industrialized to such great extent by importing technology. However, at present the transfer of technological process would be barred under WTO s Trade Related Investment Measures (TRIMS). But in the past, if New England had not barred cheaper British textiles by imposing very high tariffs just as Britain had done to India the United States might have been left out of the industrial revolution altogether (Juhasz, pg 419). Additionally, the renowned Asian financial crisis occurred when the countries allowed unrestricted capital flows and opened their markets to IMF. Before the crisis they used closed market policies to protect domestic entrepreneurs and develop support industries, while importing technology. As a consequence of these flawed policies, developed nations have open access to resources of developing nations, discouraging economic prosperity and efficiency whilst increasing income inequality. While free trade is always better than trade restrictions and distortions, it can exacerbate existing asymmetries between rich and poor nations and therefore result into poverty and inequality (Marks et al., pg 617). It is not the only form of communication, however it has become a fundamental method to present our thoughts, ideas, beliefs, and opinions to other people. It has become a necessity in American society to use media sites such as Facebook and Twitter to instantaneously access or send information. When words are censored, it strangles our ability to effectively communicate what we may be thinking. Similarly, when ideas are censored, our ability to progress as a society and as a nation is hindered. Censorshiphas been employed by other governments in the past as a method to influence the way a people may think about or view a topic. Therefore, government censorship of social media runs the risk of encroaching upon constitutional rights due to overreaching information control policies. Although there is an ongoing battle for what amount of censorship media sources should enforce, there are laws that are already in effect such as the Child Internet Protection Act, which aims to protect children from explicit material, and the Freedom Act, intended to prevent the government from accessing huge amounts of information that is found in record files. The book follows Bigger Thomas s journey through self realization, while exposing the line of racism and its effects in 1930s Chicago. Yet, for an African American narrative, the story lacks one key character, a strong woman. The women Wright includes in his story are only there as a tool to better shape Bigger s, or another man s, character. While the lack of any strong, female character could be based on Richard Wright s own life, his presentation of Mrs. Thomas, Vera, Mrs. Dalton, Peggy, Mary, and Bessie all lack the characteristics required to fulfill the strong female lead that African American literature demands. Despite of the reasoning behind justification or condemnation for Wright s characters, when considering Wright s life it is clear that a strong female character was missing. Past criticisms of Native Son have normalized Bigger s extreme violence and commodification towards women, given Bigger s character. In How Bigger was Born Wright even argues that all characters are portrayed exclusively as seen from Bigger s perspective (Wright, xxxi). Literary critics and feminist challenge this justification based upon Wright s authority as the author. They argue instead that If read as the negative polarity of the text, this process of male reification and appropriation pervades the work. (France, 414). Every woman in the ... Everyday situations, such as cooking, require reaction rates to be increased. To bake some cookies, you place them inside an oven. But why is that? Well, placing the cookies in the oven speeds up the rate of the reaction by heating it up. When the cookies have more heat energy, they cook faster. Additives may be added to foods to speed up the reaction. These are called catalysts. Likewise, we place milk in our fridges to slow down the reaction rate by removing heat and preventing the milk from going bad. This is because the milk would turn sour if we left it out near a window. (14) Enzymes are used to speed up biological reactions. When digesting food, enzymes are used as biological catalysts to speed up metabolisms. Excess heat from this is used to regulate the temperature of endothermic animals bodies. When a person is ill, their body temperature increases as heat fights bacteria by slowing down the rate of bacteria production. Respiration is another example of when reactions are sped up in biological systems. Rates of reactions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 58. The Importance Of Individualism In Society Being an individual means to be free from society. Mark Twain portrays in his satiric novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, published in 1884 in the Antebellum South in Mississippi, 14 year old protagonist exposes the immorality of white society. The author s purpose is to criticize the racism, slavery, and the hypocrisy that existed in the white civilized society in order to enact social change. Walt Whitmanportrays in his free verse poem Song Of Myself from the collection Leaves Of Grass published in 1855 that everyone in the universe has a purpose and that purpose is to be a part of nature. Whitman might express the idea to Twain that everyone in the pre Civil War era is a part of nature and find solutions from it; therefore everyone has to value nature because it represents the higher power. James McPherson, author of The Best Government on God s Footstool, claims in his historical account, What We Fought For, during the Civil War is that why did they fight. McPherson wrote similarly as Whitman in his writing, What We Fought For, that informed his readers that both sides fought for their own way of freedom and both had equal sacrifices. During a time of cultural turmoil the text made by Twain, Whitman and McPherson expresses ideas of individualism and society when an individual does not conform to society s expectations during the 19th century. In Mark Twains The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn, Twain s character Huck thinks freedom is more important that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
