A Product Of Clean Edge
Intro: A product that was finishing trials was to soon end up on the shelf of every major retailer in the
world. Paramount, a global market leader in the consumer non disposable razor industry is planning to
launch a new product into the market by the name of Clean Edge. Clean Edge is an innovative,
premium priced, new razor whose goal is to increase Paramount s market share, sales and inevitably
profit. As a company, Paramount has a strong history in the industry, entering the market back in 1962
and growing to a $13 billion company in 2009. Paramount specializes in disposable razors, cartridges,
shaving cream and depilatories and currently has two razor products already on the market, Pro and
Avail. With the launch of Clean Edge, management experiences conflicting ideas; Paramount is unsure
of how to best position Clean Edge within the growing market, considering the competition launched
a similar product right before the Clean Edge launch. The company is torn between two primary
options, a niche position, targeting a small market with a premium razor versus a mainstream position,
targeting a broader market by presenting an innovative product. After analyzing marketing budgets,
market share, operating profit, branding strategy and allocations for 2008 and 2009, it is concluded
that Paramount should engage in a niche position, which as per Appendix C will generate the higher
profit of $31.37 compared to the $2.84 in profit generated by a mainstream position. Clean Edge

Taking a Look at the Yucca Mountain
(Intro) Yucca Mountain history, landscape, and land geology The Yucca Mountain is a very interesting
geological area in Nevada only about 90 miles north of Las Vegas. Located in the large desert area
adjacent to Death Valley, it is currently used as a nuclear waste repository designated by the United
States Department of Energy. The mountain lies in the mountainous Great Basin with numerous
valleys and ridges. The Yucca Mountain has a very rich geological history that dates back hundreds of
millions of years ago. Yucca s base layer of rocks were first deposited during the Pre Cambrian
geological period billions of years ago. This was followed by other layers of rocks that were deposited
throughout the years including carbonate, shale, and other marine sedimentary rocks. Because of its
placement amongst faults, many volcanic and seismic activity has occurred. These volcanic eruptions
have built up layers of ignimbrite (See Pic 1 below) which consists of welded and non welded tuff.
These alternating layers of welded tuff and non welded tuff have many geological implications that
are of interest to geological researchers. This tuff is densely made up of volcanic ash and rock
fragments from the lava which were fused together to form many layers. The volcanic remains and
layers have come together to form the ridge line that we see today as the Yucca Mountain. It is very
clear to see that the geographical and geological properties of the Yucca Mountain makes it an

The Colonization Of The Colony Collapse Disorder
Introduction: The Colony Collapse Disorder is a strange occurrence in which worker bees from
different honeybee colonies just disappear. Honeybees, which are a crucial part of the U.S. agriculture,
have been under some drastic stress from the mysterious Colony Collapse Disorder, which is a
syndrome defined as a dead colony with no adult bees or dead bee bodies but with a live queen, honey
and juvenile bees still present in the hive. A scientific cause for the Colony Collapse Disorder has yet
to be proven. What has become of the adult bees after the Colony Collapse Disorder? Body: Between
2006 2007, many beekeepers had begun to report losses of 30 90 percent of their hives. Close to 50
percent of the affected colonies have showed signs inconsistent with the known causes of honeybee
death (Colony). The main symptom of the Colony Collapse Disorder is very low if not zero adult
honeybees present in the hive, although a live queen is still present. There are also no dead honeybee
bodies present, and often still honey and younger bees present in the hive. Verroa mites, a virus
transmitting parasite of honeybees, are often very frequently found in the hives that have been hit by
Colony Collapse Disorder (Honey). Beekeepers have experienced unexpected losses such as this
before; research has shown many other honeybee colonies seen losses during the 1880s, 1920s and
1960s. The descriptions of these losses sound very similar to the Colony Collapse Disorder, although

An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and...
What is Utilitarianism? I believe that utilitarianism is the theory in which actions are right if they
produce happiness and wrong if they don t produce happiness. Happiness is what every human being
look forward to. When making a decision, all possible outcomes must be ensured that it will lead to
happiness. Utilitarianism is based on the principle of utility .Utility is the ability to be useful while
satisfying needs. Utilitarianism is generally considered a moral theory that was found by Jeremey
Bentham, a 19th century English philosopher and a social reformer. In 1923, he wrote a book called
An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation. Bentham idea was to understand the
concept of happiness and that it is the definitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two types of Utilitarianism; act and rule . An act utilitarian uses thought process. This means
that every decision made must be well thought out before coming into a conclusion. This mean in
depth calculation or solution to the problem. For example, a person wants to plan a trip for his honey
moon, he/she has a long list of places they want to enjoy their soul mates with. Instead of jumping into
a quick decision, an act utilitarian would sit down and calculate out the utility of all possible decision
before picking which they desire to go to. While on the other side, a rule utilitarian uses the principles
of utility to create set of rules and regulations by which they live in. Rule utilitarian s are not incapable
of being patient and go through each set of possibilities and outcomes. They just don t see the reason
to waste precious time on it. For example, a rule utilitarian, would have simple rules such as, do not
kill, do not steal etc. The difference between Bentham and Mill was that Bentham was an act
utilitarian and Mill was a rule utilitarian. Some critics believe that utilitarianism is unsatisfactory
theory due to the fact that it may have some disadvantages. Utilitarianism only believes in happiness
and it is the only thing that have intrinsic worth. People might do one wrong thing just to produce
happiness. The ends don t justify the means, for example, if someone kills a healthy person just to
provide organs to help five other

What Is The Thesis For Cato s Death
Conchita Edmundson
Dr. Manson
Junior Thesis R4

Byron s Prometheus The act of becoming a martyr is one that is revered in most cultures. Soldiers will
die for their country and their families and be given the highest honours and medals; religious
devotees will die refusing to renounce their beliefs and often be granted sainthood or immortal respect
in their religion. What inspires us to respect these individuals and their sacrifices is likely their
overcoming the fear of death that resides in all of us. Though the fear of death in humans is mostly
instinctive, it is also unhealthily fostered in our society. Death is tiptoed around and it is difficult to

Considering Cato s influence on the people of Rome at that time, his suicide was a very large political
push against Caesar. According to T.D. Hill in Ambitiosa Mors: Suicide and the Self in Roman
Thought and Literature, to look upon Caesar s victory filled him with a revulsion so intense that death
was preferable to continued existence under an autocrat (71). Though this seems a to suggest that Cato
s suicide was a purely selfish act, perhaps even motivated by Cato s own political aspirations, Hill
acknowledges the huge impact Cato s death had on a wider audience, mainly due to his impeccable
reputation, rigid character, and ethical values. Hill notes that Cato s voluntary death could only serve
to demonstrate the absolute incompatibility of Caesar s rule with the ethical ideals of the Republic
(71), which shows that Cato s death likely inspired unsettled thoughts or even outright disdain among
some of the people of Rome for Caesar s rule. In continuing to express the ideals he had exemplified
in life (71), Cato s death became an immortal, undefeatable weapon of opposition to Caesar s rule.
After the realization of Cato s correct assumption about Caesar s tyranny, people admired him for
centuries. They remembered him for being a strong supporter of his believes and many people have
strived to meet his stoic

Temperature Of Alka Seltzer
Alka Seltzer being affected by different temperatures in different cups
Research Question How does the temperature affect the speed in which an Alka Seltzer tablet fully
dissolves in three cups filled with water with different temperatures.
Background Information A chemical reaction is a process that involves change of the molecular or
ionic structure of a substance, as opposed to a change in physical form or a nuclear reaction. The key
concepts of a chemical reaction are:
The atoms and molecules that interact with each other are called reactants
The molecules and atoms produced in a chemical reaction are called products
No atoms are destroyed or created they only end up in other products
Reactants collide with each other so new bonds between atoms in the reactants are broken, and atoms
rearrange and form new bonds to make new products ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A larger concentration of products is usually linked to a lower reaction rate.
Usually an increase in temperature in a chemical reaction means that there will be an increase in the
reaction rate of the reactants. Temperature is a measure of the kinetic energy of a system. If
temperature is the measure of the kinetic energy of a system, higher temperature implies a higher
average kinetic energy of molecules and more collisions per time. This would happen because when
the temperature is increased and the reactants will start moving faster and will collide more than
before with other reactants and will start forming products.
This image explains that the higher the temperature, the concentration, and the pressure the faster the
rate of the reaction is.

Lady Boss Essay
The Lady Boss: Women In Entrepreneurship and Procurement
Women entrepreneurs are making their mark in entrepreneurship. According to facts from the National
Women s Business Council, women owned firms are growing and are continuing to help in employing
people. Women are also becoming active in the entrepreneurship world and they contribute their
different style compared to men entrepreneurs.
Some women entrepreneurs are confident to thrive in a male dominated industry while other women
entrepreneurs cater to other women and their concerns, needs and wants. In both aspects, women play
the game and they have the chance to be successful. Women are slowly taking the path of
entrepreneurship and most often make the transit from employer or housewife to a full fledged
entrepreneur in their own right. And such opportunities are not denied to them.
The SBA and the WOSB
The woman entrepreneur can have a lot of help in creating and building her business. The foremost
help can be from the Small Business Administration (SBA). The agency created a program, the
Woman Owned Small Business or WOSB, to help women entrepreneurs in terms of procurement and
purchasing.
The government, with the WOSB program, helps women and their businesses by setting aside and
giving them federal contracts. Businesses that qualify are characterized as business owned and run by
female entrepreneurs. The program also has its own certification called Woman Owned Small
Business (WOSB) program certification. The

My New House
Living in Troy for 30years, we have moved three times for three new houses. The last one lasted over
20 years, we then decided to make another move. After visiting many existing houses in Birmingham
and Bloomfield Hills, we couldn t find anyone we liked. One day my friend Carl told us about a new
estate development, Walnut Brook Estates (WBE) in Rochester Hills and suggested us to visit it. WBE
has bordered South Blvd with Troy on the south, between Crooks Rd on the east and College Rd on
the west. A beautiful waterfall surrounded by picture rocks is located at the entrance on South Blvd.

We were very impressed by his creative idea, as a matter of fact he did the initial layout of the concept
on a piece of napkin at our house. We like our dream house to have abundant natural light, high
ceilings, large windows, and an open style contemporary design. The house would have a formal great
room as well as a family room, two bedroom suites on the first floor, plentiful walk in closets, and a
square shaped dining room to fit round table. In addition, various built in wall display designs for art
subjects, a large kitchen with a picture window, a sunny nook, a study next to the master bedroom,
plus the first floor laundry and utility rooms. Essentially, all of our daily activities will be on the first
floor, but we need to have two more bedrooms for the kids to use when they come home at Xmas.
Most importantly, we would have the basement designed not like a basement, but an open layout high
ceiling club house. Since we didn t care for ranch or colonial houses, the architect suggested to build a
1½ story style house with 7,800 sq. ft. living space. When I was young, I dreamed of becoming an
architect. This unique building process gave me an opportunity to involve with the architectural design

Essay on Legalizing Physician-Assisted Suicide
Physician assisted suicide should be a legal option, if requested, for terminally ill patients. For decades
the question has been asked and a clear answer has yet to surface. It was formed out of a profound
commitment to the idea that personal end of life decisions should be made solely between a patient
and a physician. Can someone s life be put into an answer? Shouldn t someone s decision in life be
just that; their decision? When someone has suffered from a car accident, or battled long enough from
cancer, shouldn t the option be available? Assisted suicide shouldn t be seen as cheating death, but as a
way to pay homage to the life once lived. As far as including the mentally challenged in this equation,
I am against it. The mentally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

were not contacted and received false notice from a letter sent through the mail. Before this worldwide
ordeal, the Romans and Ancient Greeks supported voluntary euthanasia since the 1800s. America
government was no big fan of the assisted suicide. It wasn t until the early 1900s that a public survey
was released showing that more than half of the Americas were in favor of assisted suicide. This
survey exploded great debates in courts, institutions, medical journals, etc. Jack Kevorkian was known
widely throughout America for his many assisted suicides. Numerous times Kevorkian was tried for
his participation, but the public support helped him escape (prolong) his chances in jail. It wasn t until
1999 that Kevorkian was convicted to a 10 25 sentence in jail for first degree murder of Thomas Youk.
Thomas Youk suffered a severe disability and like many of Kevorkian s patient he wanted to die. With
the support from Youk s family, Kevorkian followed through with his word, injecting a death
substance. This ordeal was recorded and later broadcasted on CBS 20/20. Some would argue that it
was modern propaganda. I would agree with this. The death caught on camera showed a pain free way
to die, almost becoming desirable to those who watched (since nobody wants a painful death).

Comparing Communism And Functionalism On Societal Values
Marxism is a conflict theory. This conflict theory explicitly emphasises the promotion of capitalist
values which are in favour of the bourgeoisie; the ruling class.
Capitalism upholds the values of the bourgeoisie over the values of the proletariats therefore
sustaining the ruling class ideology. These dominant values are perpetuated by social institutions like
the mass media and the legal system. This creates a false class consciousness; which is when the
proletariats are not conscious of their unjust situation and have upheld the beliefs and values of the
bourgeoisie, undermining the awareness which the proletariats have of their exploitation.

Education
Marxism and interactionalism believe that the educational system is a disadvantage to certain students
of a lower status.
According to Marxist theory, middle class students possess cultural capital which they can use to
elevate themselves in the system, i.e, they can afford personal tutors and inherit a different value on
education in the culture, compared to the working class.
As for Interactionalist theory, the system encourages a system of labelling which enforces negative
stereotypes against pupils. For example, there s the educational attainment records of stereotypical low
or high achievers like the stereotypical low grades that African Caribbeans receive or the stereotypical
high grades that Asians receive. They are thus stream and places in bottom sets according to
perceptions of academic failure. As a result of this, these students internalise the perceptions to the
extent that it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. This self fulfilling prophecy gives greater significance
to the meaning of actions and individuals than the structure of society

Reflection Of Rene And Rene Mora s Life
Rene, Rene Mora; I think that name will forever be engraved on my heart. As a little girl, I already had
my whole life planned out, but what didn t come to plan was being put into juvenile probation at
sixteen. His parents and my mother met in mandatory parenting classes, there, our parents would sit
and compare their children to each other. I had already known of Rene because we were attending the
same high school at the time, and the fact that I would always hear about him fighting at school, but
never would I had imagined that I would end up dating the kid. We officially met while we were both
in bad moments of our lives, but Rene ended up saving me in every day that a person can be saved.
Sociological imagination is the awareness of the relationship between personal experience and the
wider society; it is understanding that some things in society may lead to a certain outcome. I like to
think it as stepping into someone else s shoes, I always do this before I throw away food or clothes.
Rene suffered with a high tolerance of anxiety; he reacted fast to something while he was full of anger,
and then apologized for it after a short period of time. These days, we unfortunately still live in a
society where some young men think proving themselves to others makes them real or down. A lot of
them don t think abut loosing their freedom or family, until they are behind a steel door or dead. Our
book left out the topic of grief; I feel that many people suffer with it today,

Self Defense In To Kill A Mockingbird
In this week s section section of To Kill A Mockingbird our mystery man who killed Mr. Robert E.
Lee Ewell is not valued. I think this because Atticus try the suspects in court for murder. Instead of
just appreciating that his kids are okay. For example in the text it says, It ll come before county
court...it was clear cut self defense, but I ll have to go to the office and hunt up.(365) This proves the
mystery man who killed Mr. Bob Ewell is not valued. This is because Atticus tried to put the suspects

got killed in the process from self defense then maybe he shouldn t have been beating up on them.

Mass Movement In Eric Kushner s A Bright Room Called Day
Nowadays, mass movement is defined as an assimilation process, where people throw away their own
personal identities and follow submissively the orders of their leaders. The idea of people being
obedient to some of the cruelest orders, such as killing millions of people in the Holocaust, surprises
many people. Thus, many authors decide to find out the answer by bringing up many opinions about
the creation of the mass movement in their own books or plays for discussion. One of those authors is
Eric Hoffer, who suggests that a mass movement is created by the cooperation between the man of
words , the fanatic , and the man of actions (147). In fact, he points out that the three groups have the
same craving for something new and different that they believe can only be obtained through a
revolution. At the same time, Tony Kushner also offers his own belief on the topic through his play A
Bright Room Called Day by establishing a setting in Berlin, where people follow their own party in a
fight against the development of a Nazi government. Moreover, many characters in the play perform
somewhat similar roles to the three groups duties described by Hoffer. In fact, the characteristics of
Baz as an outsider and a man of words, Agnes as a fanatic who joins the party out of boredom, and
Zillah as a person of action who refuses to accept the Reagan government will be discussed in this
essay to identify the similarities and differences between the viewpoints of two authors about

Agrarian In Days Of Heaven
Days of Heaven (1978) directed by, Terrence Malick, is a revisionist film that portrays a dystopian
agrarian way of life. Populist Agrarian films emerged during the era of the Great Depression. The
urbanization of society is depicted negatively whereas rural areas are associated with paradise;
however, the remote town of Panhandle, Texas is consumed with darkness by the protagonist s selfish
pursuit of prosperity. Days of Heaven is a critically acclaimed film, primarily due to its unsympathetic
characters thereby making it challenging for the audience to relate. Agrarian and Western film genres
share a quality of the everyday man. In The Grapes of Wrath (1940), directed by John Ford, Tom Joad
encompasses the archetypal everyday man, whereas Bill is characterized as a selfish and violent
coward. For instance, Bill flees the scene after beating his supervisor to death and fatally stabs the

Toxic Dioxins In Australia
The Parramatta River is located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. According to the Parramatta
River Catchment Group (2016), it has around 19km in length, 220km of waterways in its catchment
and 257 km2 of catchment area. His estuary covers 12km2, is influenced by tidal movements, is in a
constant state of flux, the freshwater from the river s tributaries change the chemical composition of
the water on a daily basis and it takes 3 to 4 months to completes water exchange.
The pollution of Sydney Harbour, its tributaries and catchment began when the Europeans arrived at
the region, in 1788. However, was just in the XIX century, when the urbanization and industrialization

1.2. Intervention Strategies
The main intervention proposes, as mentioned by Montoya(2015) to reduce the concentration of
dioxins in the Parramatta River is the 2002 Environmental Impact Statement which has proposed to
remediate the Unioon Carbide/Lednez site and parts of Homebush Bay, reducing the dioxins levels.
But to remediate the whole Sydney Harbour, the actual strategy being adopted is to wait until the
dioxin settles in the bottom of the Sydney Bay and it gets covered by sediments
The dioxins are dispersed into a big area of Sydney Harbour. The main responsible processes for the
spread of dioxins were the aerial deposition of dioxins that were produced as a by product of
combustion of pesticide production. Other mechanisms are the transportation of dioxins that were
contained in soil sediments by the stormwater, and the dispersion of dioxins when wind driven waves
resuspended them and the spring tidal currents transported them to other locations.
1.1. Persistence Factors
Dioxins are stable chemicals compounds, and persists in living beings. They can persist in the tissue
of animals, and persist over the food

Physical Barriers And The Immune System Defend The Body...
The world is full of bacteria and germs that is a fact. One of the many jobs our body has it to protect
us from harmful pathogens which is when our natural defense mechanisms kick in. Do we know what
these natural defense mechanisms are? Our body has an immune system and barriers that play a part in
preventing and/or battling the diseases attacking our body. Is there a difference between the normal
functions of the body and the response it triggers that provokes a defense reaction?
Physical barriers and the Immune system defend the body against organisms that can cause infection
(Tunkel, 2015). The first line of defense is the physical and chemical barriers. Some barriers include

Public vs Private Funding Private Stadiums
INTRODUCTION
The past 20 years have witnessed a massive transformation of professional sports stadiums in North
America and the rest of the world. In the United States and Canada alone, by 2012, 125 of the 140
teams in the five largest professional sports leagues, the National Football League (NFL), Major
League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), Major League Soccer (MLS), and
National Hockey League (NHL), will play in stadiums constructed or significantly renovated since
1990. This new construction has come at a significant cost, the majority of which has been covered by
taxpayers. Construction costs alone for major league professional sports facilities have totaled in

Providing public subsidies for private stadiums is providing corporate welfare plain and simple. Public
subsidies for stadiums go directly into the pockets of team owners and players by increasing profits,
player salaries and raising the re sale value of the team. According to one study, a new stadium
increases team profits by an average of $11 million annually, payroll salaries by $14 million and
increases team book value by $90 million. (Depken, 2003) The billionaire team owners and the player
s profit, but the taxpayer doesn t see a dime.
Politics Involved
The fear of losing a sports team, and the votes of sports fans, have caused local officials to blink time
and time again and to waste public funds to buy the votes of the vocal and organized few, versus the
best interests of the largest portion of their voters.
Thus we can see why public money is eagerly donated. The full costs of a stadium and the damage it
does to communities are often years in the future, long after the politician is known for being the hero
that save our local team and has moved on to bigger and better things, now with the campaign funding
of the very teams that they built homes for and the fans who continue to pay. Team owners can choose
new cities but cities can t choose new teams thanks to the leagues government sanctioned monopolies
over franchise placement, mayors for example, feel they must offer owners anything they want.

Analysis Of sleepless On Seattle, The Communication...
In applying the above theories to the movie Sleepless in Seattle, the communication privacy
management theory appears several times throughout the film. Annie has two contrasting experiences
with privacy boundaries. Annie is engaged Walter, a wonderfully kind and gentle man, who absolutely
adores her, but has an obvious character flaw with his constant talk of allergies. Annie gives the
impression that she is incredibly happy with Walter when in reality she is quite bored with him. While
Annie loves Walter s tenderness, she can t disclose her deep dark secrets with him, especially her
doubts about their engagement and feelings of she s just settling for what s good for her and not the
magic that Sam describes during his radio interview. She cannot stop thinking of Sam and Jonah after
listening in on a talk show radio broadcast as she s driving one evening. Sam s words are constantly
on Annie s mind and she begins to wonder if Sam is possibly her soul mate. With Walter she has a
thick, impenetrable wall that is holding in her deep secrets. At one point, she hides in a closet one
night while Walter is sleeping so she can listen to Sam speaking on the radio. When Walter catches her
in the closet, she lies to him instead of confessing her apprehensions and obsession. Throughout the
entire film, she struggles with herself for withholding this important information from Walter, but she
has total ownership of that private information and does not feel the need to

The Citizen On The Rainy River Essay

Ap Lang and Comp 5
Thesis Essay
What is the relationship between the citizen and the state? We are not citizens but subjects, being
subjected to the ruling of one power. We claim that we despise the government and that the
government is out to get us, but if you think of what our society would be without a government we
would be in total chaos. Sometimes we try to free ourselves from the state, and run, just as Tim O
Brien did in On the Rainy River. O Brien didn t want to be drafted out to a war in which he didn t
believe in, so instead he dropped his life and ran away; just ran away from facing the government. My

power as we give to ourselves. The government wouldn t house nearly as much power as it does if we

of. The state relies on this allegiance by the citizen. It s just like the reliance between the press and the
government. The press too is made up solely of citizens. The press influences what the public thinks
about that government by the stories and editorials that they publish, and the government influences
what the press publishes by giving out press releases. They depend on each other in a complex
manner. The state has control over citizens but no real connection with these citizens. The majority
rule cannot determine justice. Thoreau had said in On the Duty of Civil Disobedience , I think that we
should be men first, and subjects afterwards. (Thoreau pg.

Adela Strangeworth In The Possibility Of Evil By Shirley...
Normally, when people see an old lady she is nice, caring, wise and sweet. However, the townsfolk

she is not a stereotypical grandma; she conceals a secret identity of an anonymous bully, who sends
letters to families she think she is helping by protecting her little town from evil.
Miss Strangeworth is very proud of herself and her family. She believes that her grandpa should have
a statue in the middle of the town to honour him and she insists on being called Miss Strangeworth

This house, right here, my family has lived here for better than a hundred years, my grandmother
planted those roses , and my mother, just as I do (Jackson,1941, p.163). Her rose garden is her pride

Criminal Investigation Research Paper
Several investigation agencies adopt different investigation techniques for every crime committed.
However, these investigative techniques follow four major stages in criminal investigation which
include;
1. Preliminary Investigation
Preliminary investigation involves the collection of information from the victims or witnesses of the
crime. This is always the first step to a crime response and is usually done by the patrol officer. These
preliminary investigations are aimed at collecting information sufficient to apprehend the suspects as
well as preserve the crime scene for more investigation. (Weinreb, 1977).
Preliminary investigation involves the following activities

3. Reconstruction of the crime
The main goal of reconstruction of crime scene is to apply deductive and inductive reasoning,
scientific methods and their inter relations to obtain more information about the crime committed.
These stages also give allow time for the public to share their views on the case. (Lyman, 2001).
4. Focus of the investigation
This is the fourth and last stage of the criminal investigation. This stage directs focus on one suspect.
Here, the burden of proof is directed towards proving that the suspect is guilt of the offence or the
crime. A very key part of this step is compilation of final information regarding the suspect charged of
the crime. (Greenwood Petersilia, 1975).
Challenges in each of the four steps
Preliminary investigation
Some of the challenges faced in this stage include
i. Inability to assess the reliability of witness or victims statements. ii. Some statements from the
victims may offer conflicting information.

The first theories talked about within chapter 4 are the inferiority and superiority complex theories
developed by Alfred. The infinity feelings are the source of all human striving, and is normal among
us all. It is brought about as soon as we are born, as we must compensate for our lack of size or
independence. The greatest example I can give of the inferiority feeling happened two days ago with
the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Abdellatif Baka of Algeria won the T13 1500m final on Monday

A female patient from New York City is obviously going to be much different than a female farm wife
from Oklahoma. Personality doesn t depend wholly on biological forces, but depends much more on
the environment we was raised in. Horney believed that childhood was dominated by the safety need,
which is a higher level need for security and freedom from fear. She placed great emphasis on the
infant s helplessness. The more helpless children feel, the less they dare to rebel against their parents.
She also dwelled on anxiety which she called basic anxiety. Basic anxiety is a pervasive feeling of
loneliness and helplessness, that becomes the foundation for neurosis. In childhood we try to protect
ourselves against basic anxiety by securing affection, being submissive, attaining power, and by
withdrawing. These self protective mechanisms serve the one goal of defending basic anxiety. Karen
also developed a list of ten neurotic needs. A neurotic need is an irrational defense against anxiety that
becomes a permanent part of personality and affects behavior. Then ten neurotic needs are: affection
and approval, a dominant partner, power, exploitation, prestige, admiration, achievement and
ambition, self sufficiency, perfection, narrow limits to life. Developing these needs will not make us

College Memes In College
Humor makes it easier to acknowledge a sad truth. When an image, a symbol, a phrase, or a video is
made humorous, it becomes a medium to pass out the information. The medium can be of various
kinds. Some of them are so funny that makes it horrible to the readers. Some emphasize on
contemporary issues to create cultural mass awareness. And, some are so humorous that it reveals
some bitter truth. Those media are called as memes. There are few examples of such humorous memes
related to college that has been spread rapidly through the online media .Those memes crave reader s
attention towards truth about the students going through in college in paying for their tuition fees and
how it has impacted, especially on the life of the students from a middle class family.
One of the most popular examples of college meme is SpongeBob meme. With this particular meme,
the author is actually trying to portray the ridiculous expense that the college students have to pay.
Here, a character named Squidward is holding a bill. The image is a plot from an episode of
SpongeBob where a character, Mr.Crab, who is notoriously greedy and money obsessed, owns a
restaurant Krusty Krab . Mr.Crab, the greedy character, tries to charge Squidward for doing all the
activities like breathing, talking, standing, existing, lollygagging, and chewing in the restaurant. By
showing the particular expense for this activity, the author is trying to match the context with the
expenses of college. The way this meme

The Main Issue In This Article Is That The Education System
The main issue in this article is that the education system is failing to deliver valuable education while
promoting inequality among the student who can and can t afford an education. One of the reasons for
the poor quality of education is that students are not recognizing the importance of knowledge.
According to the article time use studies show that the time students spend in class or studying has
dropped from 40 hours a week in the 1920s to the 1960s to 27 hours a week now. (source) This means
that students are taking it easier in their educational system. Many employers tend to not be interested

This becomes problematic because those able to afford an education have the opportunity to progress
leaving those who can t behind. Thatdoes not serve the Jeffersonian ideal of nurturing the talents of
the poor as well as the rich for the greater good of society . So the education system has a divided
soul; on one side it is an enterprise and on another side it is the means for students to gain economic
prosperity. People have overlooked the real importance of attending a university that is to gain
knowledge that can later be applied in order to achieve a certain outcome, such as advanced
performance in their career. ResponseFrom an early age, we see kids that don t want to go to school
anymore. They see school as a chore rather than a place for educational growth. Kids at a very young
age begin to lose interest in the education system which is why students at an older age learn how to
be passive learners instead of active learners. In passive learning, students are temporary memorizing
information to be used in a test. Once the test is completed they simply forget the information. Their
main concern is to ace the test and receive a passing grade. In active learning, students are actually
engaging in learning and retain all the information to gain knowledge of the subject being taught. In
order to better prepare kids for life, America should establish a

Senior Portfolios In High Schools
High Schools throughout the country have different graduation requirements for their seniors. At
Preston High School, a senior portfolio is a requirement to graduate. For the portfolio, students must
collect all of their accomplishments and report cards to place into a binder. The binder will then be
presented to employees of businesses. Another example of a graduation requirement would be
community service. For example, Maryland schools require 75 hours of student service. Based upon
research, some experts say that community service should be voluntary; however, it gets students
involved in the community, allows for better schooling, and gives students a better work experience.
First of all, senior portfolios only expand upon the students themselves. Community service allows
students to get involved with their community. Technically, the community helps pay for schooling, so
it would be nice for the students to reciprocate by contributing to their hometowns. Students could get
involved and contribute by picking up trash around the streets, or volunteering at the local food drive.
By doing so, the teenagers will get to know the people of their community. They will also gain a
knowledge of important town events such as the food drive or the community festivals. In addition,
the students will learn about the community ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Voodoo Of Voodoo Dolls
It is easy to look back at history and see a clear pattern and relation between different cultures, objects,
rituals, etc. When you take a deeper look into origins, you ll often be surprised by what you find.
Minkondi (plural for nkondi), are sculptures made and used in the 19th century by African cultures.
They served a very specific purpose and had a very sacred importance. The Nkisi Nkondi functioned
as a hunter healer of conflicts. The people would take their worries, requests and fears to the figure to
call on the spirits. Voodoo dolls on the other hand, are often misunderstood and misrepresented. The
Voodoo doll is a ritualized way of calling on spirits to target a specific person. The doll can be used a
number of things including luck, power, love and most commonly recognized, for evil and harm. The
Nkisi Nkondi sculptures and Voodoo dolls, even though they are from different cultures and time
periods, have a number of similarities and one may have influenced the creation of the other. Nkisi
refers to the spiritual being of the figure, and nkondi comes from the word konda, which means to
hunt, refers to the figure itself. Minkondi, representative of hunters, can catch those who undermine
the frame of society. The Nkisi Nkondi is typically shaped in a human form. There are few Nkisi
Nkondi that are shaped like dogs, which were seen as sacred animals. The Nkisi Nkondi weren t literal

The Rise of Consumer Culture Essay
Consumer culture has developed over the years for many different reasons such as the demise of the
social class and embourgeoisement which are both key factors in capitalism and has therefore led to
the argument that consumer society merely reflects the rise of capitalism which I plan to discuss
within this assignment. The origins of consumer culture have been discussed by Grant McCracken
(1998) who argues that there is minimal agreement in regards to the origins of consumer society.
McCracken took on the viewpoint that it would not be beneficial to look at a specific point in time in
which consumer culture arose but to primarily focus on patterns of changes within culture and how
these pattern of changes led to the reformation of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the works of Neil Mckendrick (1982) led him to the viewpoint that consumer culture began
in eighteenth century England with the commercialization of fashion which led to a mass change in
people s taste. So according to McKendrick the sudden change in people s taste in relation to fashion
during the eighteenth century meant that terminology such as style developed and represented the shift
in demand for items of clothing that was produced on a larger scale by new technology within the
textile industry and marketing to a mass audience through improvements in printing technology which
allowed and supported mass advertising to all members in society. The third was the development of
the department store. According to McCracken the Department store changed the nature of purchasing
activity because department stores essentially institutionalized consumption and changed the way in
how consumers were influenced and to how much influence they were subjected to in relation to
purchasing goods and services. From looking at the work of McCracken and McKendrick it is clear
that the development of the consumer society came from an increase in the supply and demand
mindset which is a key factor or element within a consumer society. Also the change in meaning in
relation to consumption is another example of the development of the consumer culture because the
term consumption was ignited through a new sense of

We Must Go Wrong Will Going Wrong
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Even with the knowledge that human error, internal and
external factors can, do, and will affect the outcome of any given task, individuals strive towards
creating environments in which risk levels can be safely and satisfactorily managed by facing those
threats head on. There is a lesson behind each disappointment or negative outcome that leads us to a
greater understanding of and appreciation for our surroundings. More importantly, this newfound
knowledge and experience contribute to the evolution of safer, more manageable systems that are
capable of anticipating future threats to any given environment. This type of learning is especially
beneficial in the aviation industry. Without a true appreciation of the costly mistakes that have forever
changed the face of the industry, aviation would neither have evolved into the safest mode of
transportation in the world, nor would it be as rich in technological and human behavioral resources.
We ve spent the last years in aviation focusing on increasing safety by trying to perfect the aircraft
only to learn, as Wilbur Wright stated, [that] the safety of the operator is more important than any
other point. Greater prudence is needed rather than greater skill. Wright suggests that it is not a

Camden Crime Rate And Crime Rates
After reading the article, there are three main points that we should discuss revolving around Camden
crime rate. Camden is known for having the leading part one offenses which is murder topping off the
charts compared to other New Jersey cities. The first point, that will be reviewed is the high crime
rates that have been displayed in Camden for numerous years which has lead there chief to believe in
the philosophy of community policing. Secondly, not all residents have seen the decrease of crime in
their area such as the Community Baptist Church. The final point that will be discussed is why
Camden crime rate has not turned around and why we should include the public on crime awareness in
their area.
First, Camden police chief decided to turn his community into a community policing in the attempts to
lower crime rates in his area. The reason for turning his attention to this model is because more police
officers will be on the streets and engaging with citizens. Chief Scott Thomson, decided to change his
policing technique with the community policing outlook so society can see that police are active and
in response so less criminal activities will be tried. Which in the first two years of this police theory it
has shown to have worked with the crime rate of murder dropping which was a relief for Camden
police officer and residents. This philosophy also makes police officers more community friendly
while keeping close attention while monitoring their zone.

Beethoven And The Piano In The 1800 s
Beethoven and the Piano
During the late 1700 s and early 1800 s, Beethoven was innovating the world of music through
various compositions. In particular, Beethoven s works for piano revolutionized and innovated the
piano and its performance practices. His compositional works have always been considered to be
some of the best works published, but not everyone realizes just how pivotal his work was in this point
in music history. Ludwig van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany on December 16th, 1770 to his
father, Johann van Beethoven, and mother, Maria Magdalena Keverich. He lived in Bonn for about 22
years then moved to Vienna after his father passed away due to alcohol misuse. In Vienna, he was a
well known German pianist and composer. His compositional works were well known for broadening
the usage of instrumentation and expanding the boundaries for performance. Beethoven began to

(UCLR) commonly known as Tommy John surgery, is performed on both recreational and high level

procedure is commonly done on pitchers, because of the excessive use of their throwing arm, affecting
the elbow. The process consists of replacing a ligament in the elbow with a tendon from another area
of the body or from cadavers. When someone has Tommy John surgery they are no longer able to
participate in baseball for one year. However, with the advances in this medical procedure, it has
extended the careers of numerous pitchers, and in some cases improved their pitching. Due to the
possibility of enhanced results, a troubling trend has developed in youth baseball. Parents and coaches

in one day? That answer differs person to person. One could be a publisher, book critic, reading for a
living; or one could be a plumber or carpenter and still do some instructional reading, but much less
than the aforementioned occupations. Reading is an essential skill in our daily lives. Blind individuals
have Braille script to read, and there also are those that also have technology able read aloud to them.
Regardless of how reading is done, it is used by everyone in many ways. There are quite a few factors
that can affect how well a person can read. The American Foundation for the Blind says contrast is
one of the most critical factors in enhancing visual functioning, for printed materials as well as in
environmental design (Tips). Contrast being text should be printed with the best possible contrast,
[including] light lettering on a dark background, [or dark lettering on a light background] (Tips).
Different individuals need different types of assistance. An article on the Frontiers in Psychology
website has dated colored overlays being a useful tool in reading back to 1958 when the case of a
student with a reading deficit was unable to recognize words printed on white paper but was able to
recognize words printed on a yellow paper (Uccula). Roughly 58 years ago the idea of using colors to
help individuals with reading was brought to public attention and further

PROFFESSOR: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
As the international sport of choice the rich and powerful, golf is viewed as a leisure activity and also
as a source of economic development as. Golf s challenges as well as opportunities are difficult. They
are almost all the time linked in one. There isn t lack of strategic challenges to the game s feasible
growth. On one hand, environmental laws as well as regulations are protecting the water sources, thus
leading to limiting land and water availability. Similarly, in within the same industry, the game has
taken a back seat. It is now second to its investor profits. This is of course is without conceding the
real compatibility of the two. And this is where the advantage of sustainable golf development lies
obvious. It is rather evident that, all over the world, the consumer s choices are being directly
prompted by ethical as well as environmental issues. Governments too are gaining votes for their
policies that are based on resource efficiency, environmental protection and pollution prevention.
Water, energy and other essential costs are growing all the time. The media on the other hand, is more
than willing to spotlight suggestions of damage or injustice at the push of a button. This being the case

(Malhotra, 2007)
Our primary focus here lies in determining the effectiveness and awareness of the currently existing
communications network at Middlesex University and to also gain an insight on the preferences and
attitudes of the students regarding the same.
Research designs can be broadly labeled as exploratory, descriptive or causal. For achieving the
desired answers to our current problem, exploratory research was chosen. Exploratory research
designs are ones characterized by a flexible and evolving approach to understand marketing
phenomena that are inherently difficult to measure. (Malhotra 2007)
Some of the reasons for choosing this mode of research are; * Exploratory research is optimum for
indentifying and exploring concepts in development of products or in forms of marketing
communications; a primary objective for Middlesex University. * As stated by Malhotra(2007), its
vital to develop an understanding of the structure of beliefs and attitudes in order to aid the
interpretation of data structures which goes to invest in another primary objective; that of
understanding the student s attitudes and preferences to Middlesex University s communications
systems. * Mainly, to explore the reasons behind vivid statistical differences between different
demographic groups.
Due to the nature of the data sought and the fact that this remains quite an exclusive

The Victimization Of News Media
The news media has a way of making the story more dramatic by adding information that is not true. I
do not feel that they have the people s best interest at heart, the news media is about ratings. The
criminal justice system has cases that are presented to the public by way of social media and it tends to
have a cause and effect type situation. These sensational crime news stories do not provide a very
accurate image of the types of crime by which the average citizen is victimized. Nor do such stories
accurately depict the kinds of crimes the police respond to on a daily basis ((Bohm Haley, 2012 p.6).
Opinions and thoughts are formed without all the facts, I do believe high profile cases that are placed

Techniques such as irrigation, intercropping, and crop rotation have progressively increased efficiency
in agriculture, maintaining the potential growth for global agribusiness. However, over the last couple
of centuries the industrialization of farming techniques and a growing population saw the shift into
conventional farming methods. The shift created major problems of economic instability, climate
change and pressures from farms to produce greater yields. The use of conventional farming leaves the
rural land eroded and lifeless because the farmers continuously put high input of energy, synthetic
chemicals, and genetically modified organisms to just keep on producing a high quaintly crop. The
farmers have now found themselves locked in an everlasting cycle of loans and debt. Therefor the
influence of history in time changed the dynamics of farming in not sustaining agribusiness, but due to
these past events as a world we are now starting to adopt sustainable farming practices. These
practices are influenced through our local communities, countries and United Nation in creating a
sustainable global agriculture.
Costs in agribusiness will continue to increase at a rate far from what our population is growing.

  • 2. A Product Of Clean Edge Intro: A product that was finishing trials was to soon end up on the shelf of every major retailer in the world. Paramount, a global market leader in the consumer non disposable razor industry is planning to launch a new product into the market by the name of Clean Edge. Clean Edge is an innovative, premium priced, new razor whose goal is to increase Paramount s market share, sales and inevitably profit. As a company, Paramount has a strong history in the industry, entering the market back in 1962 and growing to a $13 billion company in 2009. Paramount specializes in disposable razors, cartridges, shaving cream and depilatories and currently has two razor products already on the market, Pro and Avail. With the launch of Clean Edge, management experiences conflicting ideas; Paramount is unsure of how to best position Clean Edge within the growing market, considering the competition launched a similar product right before the Clean Edge launch. The company is torn between two primary options, a niche position, targeting a small market with a premium razor versus a mainstream position, targeting a broader market by presenting an innovative product. After analyzing marketing budgets, market share, operating profit, branding strategy and allocations for 2008 and 2009, it is concluded that Paramount should engage in a niche position, which as per Appendix C will generate the higher profit of $31.37 compared to the $2.84 in profit generated by a mainstream position. Taking a Look at the Yucca Mountain (Intro) Yucca Mountain history, landscape, and land geology The Yucca Mountain is a very interesting geological area in Nevada only about 90 miles north of Las Vegas. Located in the large desert area adjacent to Death Valley, it is currently used as a nuclear waste repository designated by the United States Department of Energy. The mountain lies in the mountainous Great Basin with numerous valleys and ridges. The Yucca Mountain has a very rich geological history that dates back hundreds of millions of years ago. Yucca s base layer of rocks were first deposited during the Pre Cambrian geological period billions of years ago. This was followed by other layers of rocks that were deposited throughout the years including carbonate, shale, and other marine sedimentary rocks. Because of its placement amongst faults, many volcanic and seismic activity has occurred. These volcanic eruptions have built up layers of ignimbrite (See Pic 1 below) which consists of welded and non welded tuff. These alternating layers of welded tuff and non welded tuff have many geological implications that are of interest to geological researchers. This tuff is densely made up of volcanic ash and rock fragments from the lava which were fused together to form many layers. The volcanic remains and layers have come together to form the ridge line that we see today as the Yucca Mountain. It is very clear to see that the geographical and geological properties of the Yucca Mountain makes it an interesting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Colonization Of The Colony Collapse Disorder Introduction: The Colony Collapse Disorder is a strange occurrence in which worker bees from different honeybee colonies just disappear. Honeybees, which are a crucial part of the U.S. agriculture, have been under some drastic stress from the mysterious Colony Collapse Disorder, which is a syndrome defined as a dead colony with no adult bees or dead bee bodies but with a live queen, honey and juvenile bees still present in the hive. A scientific cause for the Colony Collapse Disorder has yet to be proven. What has become of the adult bees after the Colony Collapse Disorder? Body: Between 2006 2007, many beekeepers had begun to report losses of 30 90 percent of their hives. Close to 50 percent of the affected colonies have showed signs inconsistent with the known causes of honeybee death (Colony). The main symptom of the Colony Collapse Disorder is very low if not zero adult honeybees present in the hive, although a live queen is still present. There are also no dead honeybee bodies present, and often still honey and younger bees present in the hive. Verroa mites, a virus transmitting parasite of honeybees, are often very frequently found in the hives that have been hit by Colony Collapse Disorder (Honey). Beekeepers have experienced unexpected losses such as this before; research has shown many other honeybee colonies seen losses during the 1880s, 1920s and 1960s. The descriptions of these losses sound very similar to the Colony Collapse Disorder, although there is no way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and... What is Utilitarianism? I believe that utilitarianism is the theory in which actions are right if they produce happiness and wrong if they don t produce happiness. Happiness is what every human being look forward to. When making a decision, all possible outcomes must be ensured that it will lead to happiness. Utilitarianism is based on the principle of utility .Utility is the ability to be useful while satisfying needs. Utilitarianism is generally considered a moral theory that was found by Jeremey Bentham, a 19th century English philosopher and a social reformer. In 1923, he wrote a book called An Introduction to the Principles of Morals and Legislation. Bentham idea was to understand the concept of happiness and that it is the definitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two types of Utilitarianism; act and rule . An act utilitarian uses thought process. This means that every decision made must be well thought out before coming into a conclusion. This mean in depth calculation or solution to the problem. For example, a person wants to plan a trip for his honey moon, he/she has a long list of places they want to enjoy their soul mates with. Instead of jumping into a quick decision, an act utilitarian would sit down and calculate out the utility of all possible decision before picking which they desire to go to. While on the other side, a rule utilitarian uses the principles of utility to create set of rules and regulations by which they live in. Rule utilitarian s are not incapable of being patient and go through each set of possibilities and outcomes. They just don t see the reason to waste precious time on it. For example, a rule utilitarian, would have simple rules such as, do not kill, do not steal etc. The difference between Bentham and Mill was that Bentham was an act utilitarian and Mill was a rule utilitarian. Some critics believe that utilitarianism is unsatisfactory theory due to the fact that it may have some disadvantages. Utilitarianism only believes in happiness and it is the only thing that have intrinsic worth. People might do one wrong thing just to produce happiness. Soldiers will die for their country and their families and be given the highest honours and medals; religious devotees will die refusing to renounce their beliefs and often be granted sainthood or immortal respect in their religion. What inspires us to respect these individuals and their sacrifices is likely their overcoming the fear of death that resides in all of us. Considering Cato s influence on the people of Rome at that time, his suicide was a very large political push against Caesar. According to T.D. Hill in Ambitiosa Mors: Suicide and the Self in Roman Thought and Literature, to look upon Caesar s victory filled him with a revulsion so intense that death was preferable to continued existence under an autocrat (71). Though this seems a to suggest that Cato s suicide was a purely selfish act, perhaps even motivated by Cato s own political aspirations, Hill acknowledges the huge impact Cato s death had on a wider audience, mainly due to his impeccable reputation, rigid character, and ethical values. Hill notes that Cato s voluntary death could only serve to demonstrate the absolute incompatibility of Caesar s rule with the ethical ideals of the Republic (71), which shows that Cato s death likely inspired unsettled thoughts or even outright disdain among some of the people of Rome for Caesar s rule. In continuing to express the ideals he had exemplified in life (71), Cato s death became an immortal, undefeatable weapon of opposition to Caesar s rule. After the realization of Cato s correct assumption about Caesar s tyranny, people admired him for centuries. Temperature Of Alka Seltzer Alka Seltzer being affected by different temperatures in different cups Research Question How does the temperature affect the speed in which an Alka Seltzer tablet fully dissolves in three cups filled with water with different temperatures. Background Information A chemical reaction is a process that involves change of the molecular or ionic structure of a substance, as opposed to a change in physical form or a nuclear reaction. The key concepts of a chemical reaction are: The atoms and molecules that interact with each other are called reactants The molecules and atoms produced in a chemical reaction are called products No atoms are destroyed or created they only end up in other products Reactants collide with each other so new bonds between atoms in the reactants are broken, and atoms rearrange and form new bonds to make new products ... Usually an increase in temperature in a chemical reaction means that there will be an increase in the reaction rate of the reactants. Temperature is a measure of the kinetic energy of a system. If temperature is the measure of the kinetic energy of a system, higher temperature implies a higher average kinetic energy of molecules and more collisions per time. This would happen because when the temperature is increased and the reactants will start moving faster and will collide more than before with other reactants and will start forming products. This conflict theory explicitly emphasises the promotion of capitalist values which are in favour of the bourgeoisie; the ruling class. These dominant values are perpetuated by social institutions like the mass media and the legal system. As a little girl, I already had my whole life planned out, but what didn t come to plan was being put into juvenile probation at sixteen. Mass Movement In Eric Kushner s A Bright Room Called Day Nowadays, mass movement is defined as an assimilation process, where people throw away their own personal identities and follow submissively the orders of their leaders. The idea of people being obedient to some of the cruelest orders, such as killing millions of people in the Holocaust, surprises many people. Thus, many authors decide to find out the answer by bringing up many opinions about the creation of the mass movement in their own books or plays for discussion. One of those authors is Eric Hoffer, who suggests that a mass movement is created by the cooperation between the man of words , the fanatic , and the man of actions (147). In fact, he points out that the three groups have the same craving for something new and different that they believe can only be obtained through a revolution. At the same time, Tony Kushner also offers his own belief on the topic through his play A Bright Room Called Day by establishing a setting in Berlin, where people follow their own party in a fight against the development of a Nazi government. Moreover, many characters in the play perform somewhat similar roles to the three groups duties described by Hoffer. In fact, the characteristics of Baz as an outsider and a man of words, Agnes as a fanatic who joins the party out of boredom, and Zillah as a person of action who refuses to accept the Reagan government will be discussed in this essay to identify the similarities and differences between the viewpoints of two authors about ... The infinity feelings are the source of all human striving, and is normal among us all. It is brought about as soon as we are born, as we must compensate for our lack of size or independence. The greatest example I can give of the inferiority feeling happened two days ago with the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Abdellatif Baka of Algeria won the T13 1500m final on Monday night in a stunning performance that not only set a new Paralympic world record, but stands as the fastest 1500m time recorded by an able bodied or disabled athlete in Rio over both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The more helpless children feel, the less they dare to rebel against their parents. She also dwelled on anxiety which she called basic anxiety. Basic anxiety is a pervasive feeling of loneliness and helplessness, that becomes the foundation for neurosis. In childhood we try to protect ourselves against basic anxiety by securing affection, being submissive, attaining power, and by withdrawing. This becomes problematic because those able to afford an education have the opportunity to progress leaving those who can t behind. Thatdoes not serve the Jeffersonian ideal of nurturing the talents of the poor as well as the rich for the greater good of society . So the education system has a divided soul; on one side it is an enterprise and on another side it is the means for students to gain economic prosperity. People have overlooked the real importance of attending a university that is to gain knowledge that can later be applied in order to achieve a certain outcome, such as advanced performance in their career. ResponseFrom an early age, we see kids that don t want to go to school anymore. They see school as a chore rather than a place for educational growth. Kids at a very young age begin to lose interest in the education system which is why students at an older age learn how to be passive learners instead of active learners. In passive learning, students are temporary memorizing information to be used in a test. Once the test is completed they simply forget the information. At Preston High School, a senior portfolio is a requirement to graduate. For the portfolio, students must collect all of their accomplishments and report cards to place into a binder. The binder will then be presented to employees of businesses. Another example of a graduation requirement would be community service. For example, Maryland schools require 75 hours of student service. Based upon research, some experts say that community service should be voluntary; however, it gets students involved in the community, allows for better schooling, and gives students a better work experience. First of all, senior portfolios only expand upon the students themselves. Community service allows students to get involved with their community. Technically, the community helps pay for schooling, so it would be nice for the students to reciprocate by contributing to their hometowns. Students could get involved and contribute by picking up trash around the streets, or volunteering at the local food drive. By doing so, the teenagers will get to know the people of their community. The Voodoo Of Voodoo Dolls It is easy to look back at history and see a clear pattern and relation between different cultures, objects, rituals, etc. When you take a deeper look into origins, you ll often be surprised by what you find. Minkondi (plural for nkondi), are sculptures made and used in the 19th century by African cultures. They served a very specific purpose and had a very sacred importance. The Nkisi Nkondi functioned as a hunter healer of conflicts. The people would take their worries, requests and fears to the figure to call on the spirits. Voodoo dolls on the other hand, are often misunderstood and misrepresented. The Voodoo doll is a ritualized way of calling on spirits to target a specific person. The doll can be used a number of things including luck, power, love and most commonly recognized, for evil and harm. The Nkisi Nkondi sculptures and Voodoo dolls, even though they are from different cultures and time periods, have a number of similarities and one may have influenced the creation of the other. The Rise of Consumer Culture Essay Consumer culture has developed over the years for many different reasons such as the demise of the social class and embourgeoisement which are both key factors in capitalism and has therefore led to the argument that consumer society merely reflects the rise of capitalism which I plan to discuss within this assignment. The origins of consumer culture have been discussed by Grant McCracken (1998) who argues that there is minimal agreement in regards to the origins of consumer society. McCracken took on the viewpoint that it would not be beneficial to look at a specific point in time in which consumer culture arose but to primarily focus on patterns of changes within culture and how these pattern of changes led to the reformation of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However the works of Neil Mckendrick (1982) led him to the viewpoint that consumer culture began in eighteenth century England with the commercialization of fashion which led to a mass change in people s taste. So according to McKendrick the sudden change in people s taste in relation to fashion during the eighteenth century meant that terminology such as style developed and represented the shift in demand for items of clothing that was produced on a larger scale by new technology within the textile industry and marketing to a mass audience through improvements in printing technology which allowed and supported mass advertising to all members in society. The third was the development of the department store. According to McCracken the Department store changed the nature of purchasing activity because department stores essentially institutionalized consumption and changed the way in how consumers were influenced and to how much influence they were subjected to in relation to purchasing goods and services. From looking at the work of McCracken and McKendrick it is clear that the development of the consumer society came from an increase in the supply and demand mindset which is a key factor or element within a consumer society.
