This document discusses the state of library management systems in 2016. It defines key terms like integrated library systems (ILS), library services platforms (LSP), discovery systems, and federated search. It then profiles the major players in the LMS market, including ProQuest, EBSCO, OCLC, Innovative Interfaces, SirsiDynix, Follett, and open source solutions. For each provider, it lists recent acquisitions, main markets, and the library management and discovery products they offer. Installation numbers are given for many products as of 2015. The majority of the information comes from Marshall Breeding's 2016 article in American Libraries on library systems.

A Tale of Two Cities: NYPL and CPL Wi-Fi Lending Projectsmfrisque
In an effort to close the digital divide and address the lack of broadband access among low-income residents, New York Public Library’s “Check Out the Internet,” and Chicago Public Library’s “Internet to Go” services allow patrons to check out and take home Wi-Fi hotspots. This program will describe the approaches each library took to attack the problem of the digital divide in their cities, provide an update, discuss lessons learned and plans for the future. Islandora Webinar: Highlighting CUHK Chinese Digital CollectionsErin Tripp
The webinar will feature a presentation and Q&A session with Jeff Liu, Digital Services Librarian and Louisa Lam, Head, Research Support and Digital Initiatives at the CUHK Library.
The CUHK Library has curated a collection of over five million digital objects in the past 20 years. It features Chinese literature, culture, arts, politics, society and religion. Until recently, the collection was stored in a broad range of different systems, complicating the discovery of these precious digital assets.
In 2015, librarians at CUHK embarked on a project to find a permanent, single platform for digital content. Objectives of the project included enhanced discoverability, multi-language support (Chinese, Japanese & Korean) and custom development capability to modify display and viewing features that would showcase Chinese literature in its true form.
Islandora met all the functional requirements and more, including support for digital humanities projects and access to a user-driven open source software community.
The CUHK library was also attracted to the vendor services and support available through discoverygarden. We provided advice, support and custom development assistance; contributing to the launch of the digital repository every step of the way.
The repository (http://repository.lib.cuhk.edu.hk) officially launched in February 2016, making the CUHK Library digital initiatives pioneers in Hong Kong.
Preservation of Research Data: Dataverse / Archivematica Integration by Allan...datascienceiqss
Scholars Portal, a program of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), provides the technical infrastructure to store, preserve, and provide access to shared digital library collections in Ontario - including hosting a local instance of Dataverse since 2011. As part of a national project known as Portage (a project of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries), Scholars Portal is partnering with Artefactual Systems, Dataverse, the University of British Columbia, the University of Alberta, and others, to integrate Dataverse with preservation software Archivematica. When completed, this project will facilitate the long-term preservation of research data according to the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) Reference Model.

Escape rooms are immersive, live-action games in which a group of participants enter a room where they must solve puzzles and collect clues in order to "escape" or win the game. These engaging and captivating games can be designed around nearly any theme from zombies to pirates to detective dramas and are being used by libraries in a multitude of ways. They can be employed simply for outreach and to engage library patrons, for incorporating instruction and experiential learning outcomes, as well as for internal staff team-building and training. You too can create this type of captivating programming for your own library for both promotion and education!
Setting up a centralized knowledge base for your library can be a great way to collaboratively brainstorm ideas, gather specialized knowledge, organize instructional resources, and even replace intranets. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
