3. About the Florida Academic Library Services
Cooperative (FALSC)
• FALSC established in Florida statute 1006.73 to provide “an
integrated library management system and its associated services
that all public postsecondary education institution academic
libraries shall use for purposes of acquiring, cataloging, circulating,
and tracking library material.”
• FALSC is part of the Florida Virtual Campus and a division of
University West Florida Innovation Institute.
• Serves the 40 public college and university libraries in the state of
Florida.
• Currently, we provide Ex Libris’ Aleph ILS, Discovery Tools Mango
(locally developed) and Primo, and the Primo Central mega-index
for the 40 colleges and universities.

Integration between ILS and Discovery Interface:
• Real time Item Availability via API
• Holds and Automatic Renewals via API
• SMS message supplies open URL in text message
• Resource Sharing - requests in terminal state sends link to
ILLiad with auto populated bib info in request
• Course Reserves - via 3rd party index uses java to display in
discovery interface
• Room Bookings – via API

Integration between ILS and ERPs (campus business software):
• Patron Records via FTP – ERP to ILS with some file manipulation
• Patron Fines via FTP – ILS to ERP
• Acquisitions Invoices via FTP – ILS to ERP
Integration with other 3rd party vendors:
• Acquisitions’ orders via FTP – from book vendors to ILS
• Exports of Holdings data via FTP
• Discovery Tools: Summon, EDS
• HathiTrust
• Rapid ILL
• Barcode files via FTP - Florida Academic Repository in the ILS and AIMS inventory
management software
• Self-Check Machines via SIP2 protocol – to ILS

Integration of Electronic Resources:
• Discovery Interfaces includes the integration of the OPAC and Primo
Central Index (PCI) mega article index via OpenURL for blended
results
• Digital Library Collections
• SFX/360Seach Link Resolvers: links to full text for each citation, no
matter which publisher's e-journal contains the full text
• MetaLib: data being returned from our licensed databases via
Metalib's X-server and powers the pages for a "multi-search" query

7. Process and Procurement of Next-Gen ILS
• Statewide process that spanned over two years
• RFI (Request for Information) including vendor demos
• Statewide Task Force recommends to go forward
• Next-Gen ILS Requirements Statewide Task Force
• ITN (Invitation to Negotiate) released
• Task Force made recommendation for Innovative products;
Sierra ILS, Encore Duet and EBSCO database index
• Negotiations complete with signed contract in April 2016

FALSC libraries, vendors and other consortium partners

• Offers workflows that exceed current ILS capabilities; streamlines
tasks and reduces staff work time
• Features a unified dashboard that improves the user experience
for library personnel
• Employs an agile development process that is responsive to user
input

• Incorporates recent developments in software and hardware

• Delivers as many services as possible in real-time
• Provides services such as managed knowledge-bases and authority
control

10. Future Integration in a Next-Gen ILS
• Consolidation to a single platform for the state universities and
colleges
• Support integrated workflows and streamlined services between
libraries
• Provide flexible workflow support to manage both print and e-
resources
• Comprehensively manage the library resources regardless of
format and location
• Operate in a Software as a Service mode to help provide the
integrated environment
• Provide a mobile interface to library services to allow anytime,
any-place utilization by staff, students and faculty

11. Future Integration in a Next-Gen ILS
• Real-time interaction between the ILS and the Discovery Interface
• Maintain current integration with as much real-time as possible:
• Patron APIs for personal info, fines, overdues, checkouts, accounts
• Holds APIs for requesting, canceling, freezing, activating
• Real-time interaction between the ILS and the campus business offices
(ERPs)
• Patron data: sent continuously from the institution to the ILS via APIs
• Patron fines: continuous updates between ILS and institutions via APIs
• Invoice data: sent via APIs
• Real-time integration with 3rd party vendors
• Acquisitions orders with Bib records and invoicing from book vendors
via APIs

12. Future Integration in a Next-Gen ILS
• Integration of ERM and ILS: including acquisitions, managing licenses and
managing packages, databases and vendors
• Includes a Knowledge Base with APIs for real-time synchronization in
both directions with the ILS and Discovery Interface
• Patron Authentication: single sign-on via interaction with institution
portals
• Integration of the Discovery interface with Learning Management
Systems (LMS)
• Bring content from the discovery interface to the course reading list
for curriculum in the Learning Management System
• Integration of digital content and collections in the Discovery Interface
• Course Reserves Management: ability to restrict course reserve materials
based on course registrations
