HISTORICAL AND INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES OF EARLY YEARS
By Linda Fuller
The purpose of this assignment is to critique and evaluate the chosen article in terms of strengths and
weakness and to demonstrate an understanding of an international educational approach to Early Years
education. In addition it will explore the similarities and differences of the international approach to
the current Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) working within my setting. Furthermore it will
critically reflect upon the strategies within the approaches to identify possible issues and limitations of
systems.
The article I have chosen is called The struggle for Early Childhood Curricula: A comparison of the
English Foundation Stage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Soler and Miller 2010, p. 60)
Throughout my career I have worked within settings that do not comply to a national curriculum as
there was none, and also within settings that did. It was in 1996 that the first UK curriculum was
introduced which was called Desirable Outcomes . Within the document were learning outcomes to be
achieved by all children by the age of five and being a centralised system, an inspection scheme was
also introduced. In this article Soler and Miller (2010) highlight how these changes were perceived to
be shaping the early childhood curriculum from the outside rather than from within the early
childhood community.
On the opposite side of the continuum, the Reggio Emilia approach is a programme that is centred on
the principles of respect, responsibility, and community. It is based on the interests of the children
through a self guided curriculum with no early learning goals or inspections.
The article then goes on to explain how in 1999 new curriculum guidance was introduced in the UK
which was entitled Early Learning Goals . It was later developed to bring in six learning areas and
stepping stones that led each child towards an early learning goal. Soler and Miller (2010) research
this statement further and write, that in structuring the curriculum and its assessment in this manner,
the policy makers have made assumptions about where the levels begin and end for all children. My

The Importance Of Binge Viewing
What comes to mind when I think of binge watching? I guess, in a very technical sense, its watching
more than a couple episodes of something. I see the term, less connected with watching movies. I
suppose you could binge watch movies, but I think that the term has more connotations with television
programs rather than movies. To me, I think binge watching implies that you are watching multiple
episodes of some kind of series.
I don t know, I don t think there is any, and maybe there is, in a scholastic scenes, but I don t think that
there is any hard and fast definition of watching this amount or these amount of episodes for this long,
equals binge watching. I think, it s more of a, I have some time to devote to this, I don t necessarily ...

So, I will rate shows that I enjoy watching frequently or that I like. That also builds a little list of
things you ve liked or things you have watched already to watch again. So, that is nice sometimes
when you kind of just want to re watch something that you have already enjoyed before.
Interviewer: Yeah.
Michael: But that is sort of the only interactivity that I have, I suppose.
Interviewer: Cool, so, you have said that you have been watching TV for quite some time now in your
life and that obviously advertising when you were growing up were these traditional commercial
interactions, have you noticed, if at all, how advertising has changed throughout that period or what
comes to mind?
Michael: You know, that is a tough question. I don t think that I have really noticed, necessarily a
change in advertising, but it may just be that my level of engagement with it has never been high to
begin with. So, it s possible that it has gotten sort of more sophisticated then when I was much
younger, but again, my level of engagement was never that high to begin with, so I don t think that I
ever really thought about it or how it has changed, but I am sure it has, in some ways.
Interviewer: When you are binge watching for instance, do you, you know, through ads, can you do
that? Can you ever binge watch with

How To Read Genesis 1 Essay
Genesis 1:1 reads, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). If I never had
access to any books and could only learn or know about the universe through what I observe with my
own eyes, there would be a few things that I would be able to learn from reading Genesis 1:1. The first
thing that I would be able to learn from reading Genesis 1:1 is about God. If I never heard or knew of
God prior to reading Genesis 1:1, others along with myself would probably wonder whom God is.
From the reading, I would know that God is the creator of the heavens and the earth. Others reading
this might also wonder what creating the heavens and the earth really means, and if he created
everything else on earth. Another big question

Speak, Memory by Vladamir Nabokov
To some degree, every artist creates his or her own artistic life preserver, and in doing so resequences
and conserves their own artistic DNA so that it may be transferred onto another generation. Vladimir
Nabokov s memoir Speak, Memory, is not only that preserver, but the tug boat that it holds onto,
heavy and cramped with the memories and history that Nabokov retells his readers against the currents
of time. Speak, Memory operates thematically, not chronologically. Nabokov returns anew to his early
childhood and pulls in, as it were, the memories associated with certain themes. Then he turns,
changes directions, and sets off again. One such theme that resonates throughout the novel is that of
exile and deteterritorialization, both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(79) Even early on in his childhood, Nobokov found those comfortable products of Anglo Saxon
civilization as nothing more than useful necessities. The extinct tradition learning that is taken on by
him is private multilingual tutorship, even if now it seems like a very pluralistic one as it included
both Russian, English and French at the same time. It is this because of this multilingual education
that Nabokov encounters less wonder in terms of cultural conflicts that usually plights other exiles.
Nabokov s traditional aristocratic background accentuates many of his experiences abroad, he
internalizes spiritual deteterritorialization and finds enjoyment within it. But it is also this spiritual
deterritorialization that follows Nabokov throughout his life that makes his account of his life seem
more artistic and disconnected, even if there is a profound emotional impact on the reader in the end.
While some moments in his life might evoke sympathy, like his retelling of his father s death, or make
readers to take a side, such as the incident with Nesbit during his time in Cambridge, Nabokov keeps
the reader at a distance by concealing his feelings in rhetoric. An example of this is the short
biography (173) of his father. Using vivid details to describe his father, one can feel the spiritual
resonance the experience had on Nabokov. And behind it all there was yet a very special emotional
abyss that I was

Perry Smith Character Analysis
Perry Smith longed for affection from his father and he never received it. This created father issues
that are displayed throughout Perry s life. Perry s actions alluded to his child like behavior in his heart.
Perry looked up to his father, but never received that attention he need at a young age, from this Perry
had been left feeling alone. Throughout Perry s feel tried to fill the void his father left in his heat, with
other important men in his life. Perry s abandonment issues stemmed from the lack of a genuine
relationship with his father; which forced him to seek attention from male figures present in his life.
Perry Smith is still a child at heart. He fantasizes about treasure hunts and finding gold, as if he is still
a little kid. When Perry had been with Dick he talked about a treasure map he wanted to use after they
concluded their murder, This is authentic. I ve got a map. I ve got the whole history. (100). Perry is
always trying to make up for his lost childhood, he never got to fantasize as a child, so this desire is
still present in this adult life. Perry never felt that he was properly loved as a child. Like most children
Perry needed to be loved on by a parent or parental figure, sadly Perry never revived the love and the
effects can still be seen throughout his life. He never got the encouragement that most kids receive.
Perry states, I never got any encouragement from him [Perry s Father] or anybody else. (133). Sense

Essay on The Exploitation and Objectification of Women in...
Women have consistently been perceived as second class citizens. Even now, in times when a social
conscience is present in most individuals, in an era where an atmosphere of gender equality
supposedly exists, it is blatantly apparent that the objectification and marginalization of women is still
a major social issue. In reality, progression in terms of reducing female exploitation has been stagnant
at best. Not only is the degradation of women a major problem that to date has not been eradicated,
but it is actually being endorsed by some music celebrities. There are a growing number of people
who purchase rap albums that support the fallacy that women are mere objects and should be treated
as such. As the popularity of rap continues to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Weisstuch). The underlying message is that women live exclusively for the sexual gratification of
men based on male power, privilege and preference. These images serve as a grim reminder that
women are being exploited as sexual objects through rap videos. Therefore, the objectification of
women through the means of rap music is a major influence in the exploitation of women. In addition
to the actualization of women, rap also promotes extreme violence and abuse towards women. Besides
the ?mild? abuse the vast majority of rappers perpetually depict, some rappers display a loathing so
deep it can only be classified as misogyny. In the song ??97 Bonnie and Clyde,? by Eminem, he says ?
There goes mama, splashing in the water. No more fighting with dad, no more restraining order. Blow
her kisses bye bye, tell mommy you love her? (Bonnie). In a sinister fashion, the song goes on to
describe how he murdered and disposed of his ex wife with the assistance of his three year old
daughter. Here the violence towards women crosses generations and involves the traumatic use and
abuse of a three year old girl. It promotes that violence, even toward our most vulnerable, is
acceptable if they are female. Undeniably, the hip hop culture?s perverse attitude towards the
treatment of women has gradually been accepted by society. It seems society has been desensitized to
the violence of rap by

Ancient Egyptian Mummification
Ancient Egypt revolved around the belief that one was reborn after death and would be guaranteed
eternal life if the body was preserved and buried properly. Their preparation consisted of extensive
work on the construction of their tombs, preserving the body and making sure it was well protected for
the journey of the underworld.
When not working on the royal tombs, the villagers of Deir el Medina would have worked extremely
hard, building their tombs in preparation for their burial and afterlife. Though not nearly as elaborate
the villagers tombs incorporated a number of characteristics associated with a Pharaoh s royal tomb.
Their tombs were located on the western side of the village, built into the face of the cliff. Within
these tombs the walls were heavily decorated with funerary scenes. An example of this is found in the
stonemason, Pashedu s tomb. The tomb wall scene at the rear of the right wall displays Pashedu and
his wife, situated on a boat with a table of offerings heading to the afterworld. Due to the incredible
skills of the craftsmen of Medina, their own tombs were not only unique in design but also detailed in
decoration. They believed that without plentiful tomb decoration their ka would not survive the
journey to the afterworld and resurrection.
Mummification is widely associated with Ancient Egyptian practices as it was a common ritual linked
to burial traditions. Egyptians believed that it was possible to live again after death. By preserving the

Department Of Finance And Accounting
Introduction Department of Finance and Accounting?s mission is to lead the Department of Defense in
finance accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay compensation service
and financial information (Defense Finance,2015). The way in which accounting technicians and
managers are compensated is an important aspect of the organization, for ensuring that payments will
be issued out to the vendors promptly. ?Education is an important driver of earnings, and state
government employees have higher average educational attainment than private sector workers?
(Biggs Richwine, 2014 p.6). The employees are a graded series five at step 1. The compensation pay
for a graded series 5 starts off annually is $32,000. With this level of pay can cause employees to be
less productive over time. A new compensation plan needs to be designed to address the inadequacy in
the accounts payable. In considering a new compensation structure for the DFAS accounts payable
payment plan, it will be vital to recognize the deficiencies of the contemporary fabric of the
compensation scheme. The problem of the current compensation plan in the accounts payable
department is the plan does not consider compensating employee pay based on their education.
Everyone who starts in a graded series five step 1 will be given at the same rate, even if the employee
has a college degree. In the private sector environment, education may play a significant factor in

Analysis Of Usain Bolt s Race
Everyone knows that Usain Bolt s name was no coincidence, but Jesse Owens is definitely Bolt´s side

times.

took Owens 10.3 seconds to complete the 100 meter race at the 1936 games in Berlin . But the current
fastest man alive, Usain Bolt, has Jesse Owens time beat. Scientist of this department concluded if
Bolt and Owens raced together, Owens would still have had 14 feet to go after Bolt crossed the finish
line in the 2013 World Championships, with a time of 9.77. (And to be fair Bolt also beat that time in
the 2012 Olympics.) But, if

What Is The Real Igbo Religion In Things Fall Apart
Chinua Achebe chose to include a native Igbo religion in for Umuofia Village culture in his novel
Things Fall Apart. He calls this Igbo religion Agbala Oracle (the Oracle of the Hills and Caves) which
he bases on a historic Nigerian religion. That historic religion was known as Awka Oracle that was
destroyed by the British. The events surrounding the destruction of the real Awka Oracle and the
fictional Agbala Oracle are strikingly similar. The real Awka Oracle was destroyed and entire villages
were wiped out in retaliation for the killing of one British subject. Thomas Liu recounts the events as
follows: On November 16th, 1905, a British man, known as J.F. Stewart, riding his bicycle arrived in
Ahiara was killed by the native warriors.

Searle Vs Sartre
With philosophy, nothing is black and white. Deciphering philosophical views is unlike anything else
because there is more depth and analysis that has to be put into play. It is about understanding what
the philosopher is trying to get across while making inferences about what they truly mean or could
mean. The thing about it is that at some times it tends to be a contradiction within itself: while certain
things can be true under certain circumstances, the opposite could be true under different
circumstances. Many ideas are hard to grasp and can be interpreted in various ways depending on how
people want to take it. One can say that John Searle and Jean Paul Sartre have a plethora of beliefs in
common yet really none at all. If they were assessing each other s views, they would agree and
disagree on their stances on different topics. While Searle may believe one thing some ... Show more

Man is born, and then he defines himself. I believe that Searle would disagree with this. He would say
that our brain and its predetermined functions play a large role in everyday decisions and life choices.
Searle almost likes to believe that human are machines in referring to their syntactical processes. It
seems to me that he thinks our brains are wired a certain way, and I do not thing Sartre could agree. In
one conclusion he drew, Searle wrote, What we mean by that is that mental processes that we consider
to constitute a mind are caused, entirely caused, by processes going on inside the brain. . . . Brains
cause minds (Searle 39). By this, I believe he means that brains and minds are part of a human s
essence, therefore, he would probably believe that essence precedes existence. When breaking it down
and looking at their perspectives this way, Sartre and Searle differ greatly. Searle most likely would
not agree with that main theme in Sartre s

In the story, The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe, Montresor is seeking revenge against
Fortunato who has insulted him and his family, and this drive for revenge is reflected in Montresor s
family coat of arms and motto. This motive of revenge is established at the beginning of the story
when Montresor says, THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he
ventured upon insult I vowed revenge. Poe uses every move and word spoken by Montresor to
reinforce the idea of revenge. Even as Montresor is cordial to Fortunato when they meet at the

his revenge. Montresor greets Fortunato by saying, My dear Fortunato,

Pablo Picasso And George Braque
1. Pablo Picasso and George Braque founded cubism in the early 20th century in Paris. It was an
artwork to be considered as the first radical approach in expressing visual reality. According to Cubist,
any perception of an object was a composite of simultaneous and different perspectives. Cubism tries
to help one understand the world around them in a different way by changing their perspective on a
certain subject. It is an approach of art where a painter takes a real life object and changes it in a
completely different way to the way he or she views it in there mind and how they perceive it. Cubism
used geometric shapes to replace traditional forms. An example of this type of art form is Picasso s

One of the most famous Surrealists was the Spaniard Salvadore Dali, who subverted the sense of
reality in his painting by using near photographic detail in presenting a fantastic and irrational world.
One of his most famous artworks was the persistence of memory . It represented that time was fluid.
What motivated him to draw this picture was the Brie cheese that was melting in front of him while he

2. Technological achievements created a second stage of the Industrial Revolution that transformed the
human environment and led people to believe that their material progress would improve world

that proved to be of great value since it could be easily converted into other forms of energy, such as
heat, light, and motion, and moved relatively effortlessly through space by means of transmitting
wires. In 1910, hydroelectric power stations and coal fired steam generating plants enabled entire

The Is An Internet Moral Panic Essay
As technology surrounding the internet has grown there has a been a new movement to connect the
world. Specifically, teens have become more inclined to socialize and connect with friends, family,
and strangers through the internet. Teenagers are known for being vulnerable, naïve, having a vast
desire to find acceptance with their peers or society and are obsessed with love. With the connection
of the internet, social media, and teen it has created completely new moral panic; catfishing.
According to, to Merriam Webster catfishing is defined as an individual who creates a fake profile on
a social networking site to deceive or manipulate others ( Catfish ). Primarily, those who catfish use
their fake profiles to gain romantic relationships with other social network users. Teens began creating
fake profiles through their instinct of wanting to fit in but, this led to teens catfishing to fulfill their
dreams of finding acceptance. Catfishing is an internet moral panic because it is considered a social
terror. The act of catfishing became a way for some teens to find acceptance but, parents feel that teens
are not safe on social networking sites such as; Facebook because these deceptions can cause teens
emotional and mental harm. Those constructing the moral panic continually scapegoated social
network sites for the creation of catfishing and its side effects but, the true root cause of catfishing is

Schools Need To Be Responsible For The Protection Of...
Schools need to be responsible for the protection of kids while in school. In the court case, Morrow
versus Balaski (Daniell 133)the US court of appeals for the third circuit explained that school children
are never in full custody of the school because they remain primarily dependent on their parents... but
others argue that the relationship between schools and children is special (since children are required

to the no Duty rule in school settings there is the second exception of that would impose a duty and on
school districts to protect students from violence. (Daniell 134). School districts should be required to
protect students from Intruders. They should also be better equipped to help students in a trauma
scenario. Teachers should be required to be educated on how to help students in an emergency. Not
every kid has a safe environment at home, if they can t be safe at school either, then where can they?
Teachers need to be trained how to handle various types of emergencies such as health and attacker
incidents. Teachers should be CPR certified along with trauma and other emergencies. Teachers are
required to review basic first aid and CPR, Suicide Prevention, and emergency procedures, but this is
not enough. Teachers need to be able to deal with the problem till emergency personnel arrives. The

Introduction
Background
Healthy childbirth is defined as a safe, natural process that rarely requires medical intervention (Goer
Romano, 2012). The medical model of care, however, often includes interventions that are not
supported by the evidence and can increase a woman s risk of having a cesarean section. These
intrusions into labor and birth often lead to what has been called the cascade of interventions

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are also requiring participating hospitals with more
than 1,100 births a year to report their primary cesarean section rates. Theses rate will be published in
2016 (The Joint Commission, 2013).
Local Problem Lutheran Medical Center (LMC), one of eight hospitals in the Sister s of Charity of
Leavenworth Health System, had the second highest cesarean section rate in the system in 2014 (SCL
Health, 2015). Westside Women s Care (WWC), a privately owned obstetrics practice, employs 14
providers who attend approximately 65% of the births at LMC. WWC s primary cesarean section rate
from March 2014 to March 2015 was 34.8%, the highest of all LMC provider groups. The primary
cesarean section rate in Colorado in 2012 was 17.4% and the Healthy People 2020 goal for primary
cesarean section is 23.9% (Osterman Martin, 2014; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
2015). To help decrease the primary cesarean section rate at WWC and subsequently LMC, a quality
improvement project (QIP) team was formed composed of providers from WWC and administrators
and nurses at LMC. A root cause analysis was conducted and Fishbone diagram were developed (See
Appendix A). Several themes emerged as contributing to the high cesarean section rate. These

Afroban Explosion Research Paper
Afro Cuban Explosion Jazz music originated in New Orleans around the beginning of the 20th
century, developing through various increasingly complex styles. These scores are generally marked
by intricate, propulsive rhythms; polyphonic ensemble playing; improvisatory, virtuosic solos;
melodic freedom and a harmonic idiom. These pieces range from simple diatonicism, through
chromaticism, to atonality (Dictionary.com). The foundation of jazz is associated with the Black
experience in the United States, but different cultures have added their own personal experiences and
styles to this art form as well. As a result of jazz spreading around the world, it grew locally,
regionally, and nationally in cultures. Each decade brought a new form of jazz including brass bands
in the twenties, swing bands in the thirties, and smooth cool jazz in the forties. ... Show more content

The Sins of Yesterday Essays
He opened the door to the diner and stepped inside. The door slammed shut behind him. It always did
that. It was probably the reason why the pane of glass had a jagged crack running from top to bottom.
The crack had been there for as long as he could remember. It was a comfortable reminder of why he
came here: no one cared here. He sat in the same place he always sat: a booth in the back near the
bathroom. Dorothy, the only waitress this hole in the wall had to offer, acknowledged him with a grunt
and asked if he wanted anything. Just a cup of coffee and some pancakes, please. She oinked with
indifference and waddled to the kitchen to put in the order. He watched her pour coffee that probably

His grizzled face, squinted eyes, and balding head made him look a lot older than he knew him to be.

B. Fallen Condition Focus
1. There is a sharp opposition between the flesh and the Spirit a felt tension. Life according to the
desires of the flesh (e.g. the self centered appetites and ambitions) leads to slavery, destruction, and
death (e.g. addiction).
C. Gospel Response
1. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus we have been forgiven of our sins past, present, and
future and afforded new life along with freedom and fruitfulness in the Holy Spirit. We ( flesh ) have
been crucified with Christ and it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us by faith through
the Holy Spirit so that we do not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Gal. 2:20; 3:14, 4:6 7, 5:16, 24).

Abstract The purpose, or objective, of this lab was to identify an unknown bacteria by conducting
different tests. Some of these include: oxidase test, fermentation tests, and catalase test. DNA
fingerprinting was also conducted on the unknown sample, in order to provide another accurate means
of identifying our DNA sample. The main objective for the identification lab was to be able to use
known methods to identify our bacteria, including being able to follow a flowchart to aid in the
process. The objective of the Box Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) experiment was to gain a basic
understanding of the Polymerase chain reaction and gel electrophoresis, and then apply that
knowledge to identifying the unknown bacteria. We found that our bacteria ... Show more content on

materials required included: microscope slide, crystal violet, distilled water, Gram s iodine, 70% ethyl

that was performed for this experiment, after a subculture of the bacteria was made. Gram stains are

washing with distilled water for 5 secs, covering the surface with iodine for one minute, decolorizing

microscope. After determining that we had a gram positive cocci bacteria, we performed a catalase test
which required adding drops of 3% hydrogen peroxides to our sample. After getting a positive results
for the catalase test (it bubbled), we performed a coagulase test (we had to add some of our sample to
rabbit plasma and let the plasma incubate). This test yielded a negative result, and we carried on with
the oxidase test. For this test, we added a reagent to the sample, and if it turned blue then that would

Musical improvisation is the creative activity of immediate musical composition, which combines
performance with communication of emotions and instrumental technique as well as spontaneous
response to other musicians. (qtd. From Wikipedia). Chopin used many of his techniques of
improvisations to meet the audience s expectations as well as maintaining the conventions of musical
form. After making his early combined works for piano and orchestra, he didn t compose any
orchestral musics for a while until of his late works of sonatas of the piano and cello. Chopin s
individuality was the advantage of his flexibility of his handling of four bar phrases as a structural
unit. Many of the works of Chopin was intended for concert performances. Chopin created many
different compositions varying in style and technique including: mazurkas, waltzes, polonaises,
nocturnes, and études. Chopin s mazurkas and waltzes were all in straightforward ternary or episodic

his 21 nocturnes were posing of great emotional depth despite the fact the structure was so important
in these types of pieces. And finally, Chopin s études were the basic teachings of his own technique of
piano playing. Many of these innovations were sounding as mysterious and beautiful as they were

The very concept of impartiality has been warped in recent years by the saturation coverage provided
by the electronic media; the public is bombarded with prejudicial information which makes it
increasingly difficult for high profile defendants to receive anything resembling a fair trial. Within the
courthouse, the jury is made conscious of the scrutiny which will fall upon its ultimate decision and is
thus held hostage by an accountability to the community, 3 while judges are forced to preside over
issues in media coverage as well as issues of trial law. Meanwhile lawyers are compelled to try their
cases in the court of public opinion just as vigorously as they must try them in the courtroom.
And what of the defendant, kept under the constant and watchful eye of a camera trained to capture
every facial reaction, every shift in body language? For the accused, the pressures of a criminal or

Apple s First Circuit Board
Apple has brought the standard of technology to an all time high, changing the way the world interacts
with each other through their industry leading products. Apple s main focus was to create a user

April while attending the monthly homebrew computer club meeting. This unveiling would be Apple s
gateway to the future. Months later Wozniak wanted to focus on creating an` all in one computer to

The Bible as a Sustained Allusion
The Bible is a sustained allusion throughout the course of East of Eden, paralleling with the eternal
story of Cain and Abel. According to the Bible, Cain is the quot;tiller of the ground quot; (Genesis
4:2). Caleb Trask, a farmer at heart, made a vast amount of money by selling beans. Upon presenting
Adam with his present of fifteen thousand dollars, Adam not only discarded the gift, but caused Cal
pain by comparing him to his godly brother, Aron, who graduated high school and started college at an

Adam Trask moved out to California with his pregnant wife, Cathy, to farm the new, fertile land. With
the help of Samuel Hamilton, Adam s benign neighbor, Adam s farm immediately started to prosper.
Samuel took to liking the intent Adam right away, however, upon meeting Cathy, he felt an ominous
chill of calamity. After delivering her twin boys, Cathy desperately tried to leave Adam, and when he
restrained her, she brutally shot him in the shoulder and departed. While sprawled on the floor,
soaking in a pool of his own blood, Adam faintly heard quot;the monotonous sound that had been

(266). The next time Samuel Hamilton dropped by the Trask s place, he was appalled to discover that
Adam had not named the twins yet. Referring to the Bible belonging to his devout wife, Samuel and
Adam arrived at the names Caleb and Aron. Ten years later, when an elderly Samuel Hamilton
stopped by to say goodbye to Adam and his family, Lee, the Trask s learned servant, told Samuel of an
interesting topic that had stimulated him. Since their conversation ten years earlier, Lee researched the

International Adoption
The necessity of adoption in the world is astounding. Currently, there is an estimated 143 million
orphans worldwide (Wingert, vol.151). As of 2007, there were 513,000 children living in foster care
within the United States alone (Rousseau 21:14).International adoption in the United States was
jumpstarted post World War II as a way of helping those children who were left homeless, after war

Due to this sense of subordination women in poor countries [feel as if] they and their children serve as
commodities for privileged Western people ( qtd. in Hollingsworth 48:209). A sense of vulnerability
leads several women in developing countries to believe that they have to give their children up to
wealthy Americans because of the high status of the American people. The implementation of acts
such as manipulating illiterate mothers, infants taken by force, and the paying of young girls to have
children are just a few ways that the naïve are taken advantage of (Hollingsworth 48:209). When
Americans adopt children that were gained through these unjust acts, it is as if Americans are
supporting the injustice, regardless of their previous knowledge of the existence of such situations
(Hollingsworth 48:209). By stopping international adoption, these acts of injustice would not be able
to continue and families would not face exploitation. Not only are families exploited but also the
children involved. In poor countries, disabled children face discrimination along with older children.
These children are often forgotten about, since the foreign adoption of these children does not bring
enough money to corrupted governments (Wingert, vol.151). Gender discrimination is also taking
place. Hollingsworth uses statistics to show this gender discrimination since in 1997, seventy eight

So basically everything is left up to the individual. This was a bit much for me to grasp or even try
understanding. I am a Christian and stand firm in my belief in God and what awaits me in the afterlife.
I know and trust in the bible when it tells me that I will be held accountable for all that I do that is
immoral and sinful. My only salvation is to pray for forgiveness and repent. I believe that when I meet
my maker I will be fully aware of what is going on and although my body, the keeper of my soul, will
be no more: I will. I do not believe that I will become a part of nature or this force that pantheists
speak about. I know that I am not God. I am a product of God made in his image.
I found the New Age Movement to be a very interesting worldview. At times it had me scratching my
chin at the different concepts that they boast to be true. In the end and with further research I realize
that they too fall short of Christianity. There is just no way the world will be able to run without any
guidance and if we could govern ourselves then we would all be living in a state of peace right now.
Unfortunately we are not and it is because the world has laid down their bibles and picked up
pamphlets of other hogwash that has blinded them to the way of the bible. There is only one true God

The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints Essay
Individuals who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are taught gender is
an essential characteristic of an individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. (The
Family Proclamation to the World) American society teaches through media, that males are to be
aggressive, and females are to be submissive. Society teaches individuals to stuff males and females
into confining and suppressive boxes, where males are meant to be domineering and females are
sexual objects and marriage is disposable. It s such a stark contrast the difference between how those
of the faithful LDS families are raised when compared to those who have been integrated into the
beliefs of society. Children who are raised to view society as the correct way, are taken into a highly
stereotypical, and deceptive world.
American society views the acceptable man as being controlling and domineering, whereas the
acceptable and desirable woman s purpose is to cater to the man, physically and sexually. Females are
nearly always stripped down (often literally) to what lies at their core, their essential, biological
womanliness, their essential subordinate position to man. (Byerly, Carolyn, Ross 26) When women
are portrayed in such a way, individuals begin to be dissatisfied with themselves, as well as with the
ones they are intimate with, comparing them to the impossible standards of society. While attempting
to appease the opposite sex, then they aren t being true to their

This comes to show that the support for veganism and vegetarianism is an ecological, ethical, or
health concern issue, Nearly all plant eaters have fermenting vats (enlarged chambers where foods sits
and microbes attack it). Ruminants like cattle and deer have forward sacs derived from remodeled
esophagus and stomach. Horses, rhinos, and colobine monkeys have posterior, hindgut sacs. Humans
have no such specializations.. The short canines in humans are a functional consequence of the
enlarged cranium and associated reduction of the size of the jaws. In archeological sites, broken
human molars are most often confused with broken premolars and molars of pigs, a classic omnivore
(VRG). Although there is evidence to back up humans being omnivores, is it morally justified for
humans to eat meat when survival is not a threat? If one s morals say no, there s many diets that exist
that don t include animals. A vegan diet consists of not consuming any animal products. Humans
choose this diet for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is to cut down on animal cruelty.
Jonathan Safran Foer talks about the morality of harming animals for food in his book Eating Animals,
What our babysitter said made sense to me, not only because it seemed true, but because it was the
extension to food of everything my parents had taught me. We don t hurt family members. We don t
hurt friends or strangers. We don t even hurt upholstered furniture. My not having thought to include
animals in that list didn t make them the exceptions to it. It just made me a child, ignorant of the world
s workings (Foer). This portrays how humans have a hierarchy of what is acceptable and what is not.
One s treatment of animals comes from this cultural hierarchy. In different cultures, the hierarchy will
shift, for example, within parts of the Jewish religion and culture

Currently, student nurses and midwives receive an annual bursary from the NHS whilst they study
which they do not have to pay back. They also do not have to pay tuition fees. At the moment, student

With hospitals and clinics struggling to accommodate students at present, questions have been posed
that the proposed extra 10,000 nurses George Osbourne claims by 2020 will be trained is highly
unlikely.
First year student midwife at Sheffield Hallam University, Niamh O loghlen, commented:
They re going to get less people applying to health care jobs when they ve got a shortage of them and
need as many nurses, midwives and doctors as they can.
Her statement is backed by the Royal College of Nursing who believe that getting rid of bursaries
would mean talented would be nurses and midwives would choose different career paths.
Student midwife Ms O loghlen also said:
They won t get people applying who have a real passion for the nursing and midwifery fields. But
those who have money and can afford to live without a bursary.
At the present moment, over half of those applying to study nursing are turned away, therefore
showing there are no shortages in those eager to work in the profession. But the bursary cuts could see
the number of those applying fall by August 2017 in which the plans are proposed to take

Celiac Disease And Gluten Free Products
That may be a snarky way of saying it, but it s true. Scientific studies have concluded that sensitivity
to gluten for people who do not have Celiac disease may be completely psychological.Especially
relevant in a country where 17 million people may unnecessarily believe that they are gluten sensitive.
(Source: A Mayo Clinic survey in 2012, cited in a NY Times article.)Especially shocking in a planet
that spent $10.5 billion last year in gluten free products. (Source: Mintel, a market research company,
cited in the NY Times article.)Especially important because a psychological disease can spread as fast
as any virus but be more enduring.Especially lucrative for all the food companies making tons of
money off of people like you.

This disease is largely self diagnosed, and studies are starting to show that it is not real. Professor and
scientist Peter Gibson is a hot shot when it comes to studying gluten. He did a study in 2011 that gave
a lot of credit to the belief in (non Celiac) gluteny sensitivity. But when he revisited the study again in
2013, but with much more rigor given that NCGS was becoming a worldwide phenomenon. These are
the measures he took to get valid results:
Subjects were given every single meal for the duration of the study.Any other potential causes of bad
stomach symptoms were removed from the diet. (Think lactose from milk.)And just in case you did
not think he was serious, Peter collected nine days worth of urine and fecal matter. (Now that s a topic
of conversation.) The results were pretty shocking. They concluded that gluten in no way could have
caused any of the negative symptoms that the subjects were suffering from.NOCEBO might sound
like the name of the latest trendy NYC neighborhood, but it s not. It is a term that means something
HARMLESS that causes harmful effects to people who take it. For the people in this very thorough
medical study, gluten was proven to be a NOCEBO. People who did not take gluten but thought they
were eating it began to get the that list of symptoms you would not want to wish on your enemies. In
the study s own terms, We found no evidence of specific or dose dependent effects of

Wide Sargasso Sea And Banana Boat Song
In both of my works, Wide Sargasso Sea and Banana Boat Song (Day O) we see the conflict with
racial issues and social fairness. In Wide Sargasso Sea, Antoinette is torn between two worlds; the
blacks and whites, between former slaves and former slave owners. She has a mixture of conflicting
feelings for black people. Antoinette wants to be accepted by them, and feels pity, hatred, and desire
for isolation. I can relate in a sense that I wish to belong as well. The color of my skin should not
define my overall character. I am a human being, the same as everyone else. I don t however, give in
to hatred segregation. Antoinette does not completely hate them, despite them burning down her house

Every JROTC class is subjected different forms of curriculums compared to other classes in the
school.
Each class is divided into four year groups: first years, second years, third years, and fourth years.
Each year group is taught different aspects of leadership education and aerospace science. Through the
four years, cadets are taught how to be a leader.
Once a cadet reaches his or her fourth year, he or she will be given the opportunity to become a flight
commander. As a flight commander, cadets are expected to take control of the class in the absence of
an instructor or lead them in a lesson or assignment. Different flight commanders have their own
motivations to lead cadets. Cadet Colonel Chase Winans motivation is to help build the foundations of
future leaders .
Our program in and outside has impacted cadets lives forever. We have received thank you notes from
cadets that have graduated two to six years before. Cadets even now are realizing the impact of our

Breast-Cancer Risk Factors
What are the risk factors for breast cancer?
Studies have shown that your risk for breast cancer is due to a combination of factors. The main
factors that influence your risk include being a woman and getting older. Most breast cancers are
found in women who are 50 years old or older.
Some women will get breast cancer even without any other risk factors that they know of. Having a
risk factor does not mean you will get the disease, and not all risk factors have the same effect. Most
women have some risk factors, but most women do not get breast cancer. If you have breast cancer
risk factors, talk with your doctor about ways you can lower your risk and about screening for breast
cancer.

Fox Hall College Essay
Communities are all over the place, multiple people belong to all types of communities. The
community I belong to is the community of Fox Hall. I ve lived in Fox Hall for the whole time I have
been attending the University of Massachusetts Lowell. I have met numerous amounts of people and
made several friends while living in Fox Hall. Fox Hall is a fascinating building because it has
eighteen floors of residence. Fox Hall is the tallest building in Lowell which is very interesting. Since
I have been here, I was curious about all the activities that have been going on in Fox Hall. I chose

Fox Hall is interesting mostly due to the fact that it is the tallest building in Lowell, and it houses so
many undergraduates. Fox Hall is located on East Campus, which is one of the main residential areas
of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Fox Hall offers three types of room choices, which are
double, triple and quad. I live in a triple with my roommates Christopher and Quinlan. Fox Hall also
has the largest dining hall on campus. The dining hall is on the second floor of the building, so you
don t have to leave the residence hall to go and get food. Fox Hall has three elevators, two of them are
personal elevators, while one is a freight elevator used mostly by construction workers who are
building the fourth elevator on the building. Most people in my community get frustrated about the
construction that s going on at Fox Hall because it is loud and annoying. Another thing that Fox Hall
offers to its residence is the Centers for Learning which is located on the first floor of the building.
Centers for Learning offers students tutoring or help for any issues that they may have. Overall, the
community of Fox Hall is warm and welcoming, other than the people who are exhausted from the
construction which causes an inability to sleep.

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Joan Didion s Santa Ana Winds
People are influenced by everything around them. The people they associate with influence their
decisions, their surroundings impact their mood and behavior, and even weather can affect the
outcome of a person s day. Joan Didion, an American essayist, explains some strange impacts wind
can have on people in her essay Santa Ana Winds. The author teaches teaches about the changes Santa
Anas bring upon people and shows how mechanistic people are. Ms. Didion s point is emphasized
through her vivid diction, diverse syntax, and educated tone. Didion s descriptive diction helps readers
envision effects of the unusual Santa Ana Winds. She says that, we will see smoke back in the
canyons, and hear sirens in the night which effectively brings to mind thoughts of fires caused by the
Santa Ana Winds without having to directly reference them. Later in her essay, she uses small details
to emphasize the widespread effects when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author relates a personal anecdote in the beginning of her writing, appealing to ethos, and lending
believability to her work, as readers can easily tell that she knows what she is talking about. In the
second paragraph she eludes to the fact that she has experienced the Santa Anas many times when she
uses phrases such as, when I first moved to Los Angeles and [I] was living on an isolated beach. Later
on in her essay she moves into a relating of factual information which appeals to the logos of the
audience and, once again, gives credence to her message. She states that [o]ne cannot get much more
mechanistic than that. By this Didion means that people are unconsciously and uncontrollably
impacted by their surrounds just as machines are controlled. She backs up this claim throughout her
essay with descriptions of how [m]eek little house wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study
their husbands necks because [t]hat was the kind of wind it

at the back. I also notice customers going crazy about a particular brand and being able to get the
product they been waiting for. Each section has different brands of makeup product from a to z. I
notice that every section has two mirrors on each side and a big mirror in the middle. Marketing
strategies use displays to attract customers. Sephora is an open shelf environment, which encourages
the consumers to test, smell, apply, the product. The sales clerk at the stores is trained to assist

Module QF5000 essay HISTORICAL AND INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVES OF EARLY YEARS By Linda Fuller The purpose of this assignment is to critique and evaluate the chosen article in terms of strengths and weakness and to demonstrate an understanding of an international educational approach to Early Years education. In addition it will explore the similarities and differences of the international approach to the current Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) working within my setting. Furthermore it will critically reflect upon the strategies within the approaches to identify possible issues and limitations of systems. (Soler and Miller 2010, p. 60) Throughout my career I have worked within settings that do not comply to a national curriculum as there was none, and also within settings that did. It was in 1996 that the first UK curriculum was introduced which was called Desirable Outcomes . Within the document were learning outcomes to be achieved by all children by the age of five and being a centralised system, an inspection scheme was also introduced. In this article Soler and Miller (2010) highlight how these changes were perceived to be shaping the early childhood curriculum from the outside rather than from within the early childhood community. On the opposite side of the continuum, the Reggio Emilia approach is a programme that is centred on the principles of respect, responsibility, and community. It is based on the interests of the children through a self guided curriculum with no early learning goals or inspections. The article then goes on to explain how in 1999 new curriculum guidance was introduced in the UK which was entitled Early Learning Goals . It was later developed to bring in six learning areas and stepping stones that led each child towards an early learning goal. Soler and Miller (2010) research this statement further and write, that in structuring the curriculum and its assessment in this manner, the policy makers have made assumptions about where the levels begin and end for all children. I see the term, less connected with watching movies. I suppose you could binge watch movies, but I think that the term has more connotations with television programs rather than movies. To me, I think binge watching implies that you are watching multiple episodes of some kind of series. I don t know, I don t think there is any, and maybe there is, in a scholastic scenes, but I don t think that there is any hard and fast definition of watching this amount or these amount of episodes for this long, equals binge watching. If I never had access to any books and could only learn or know about the universe through what I observe with my own eyes, there would be a few things that I would be able to learn from reading Genesis 1:1. The first thing that I would be able to learn from reading Genesis 1:1 is about God. If I never heard or knew of God prior to reading Genesis 1:1, others along with myself would probably wonder whom God is. • 5. Speak, Memory by Vladamir Nabokov To some degree, every artist creates his or her own artistic life preserver, and in doing so resequences and conserves their own artistic DNA so that it may be transferred onto another generation. Vladimir Nabokov s memoir Speak, Memory, is not only that preserver, but the tug boat that it holds onto, heavy and cramped with the memories and history that Nabokov retells his readers against the currents of time. Speak, Memory operates thematically, not chronologically. Nabokov returns anew to his early childhood and pulls in, as it were, the memories associated with certain themes. Then he turns, changes directions, and sets off again. One such theme that resonates throughout the novel is that of exile and deteterritorialization, both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (79) Even early on in his childhood, Nobokov found those comfortable products of Anglo Saxon civilization as nothing more than useful necessities. The extinct tradition learning that is taken on by him is private multilingual tutorship, even if now it seems like a very pluralistic one as it included both Russian, English and French at the same time. It is this because of this multilingual education that Nabokov encounters less wonder in terms of cultural conflicts that usually plights other exiles. Nabokov s traditional aristocratic background accentuates many of his experiences abroad, he internalizes spiritual deteterritorialization and finds enjoyment within it. But it is also this spiritual deterritorialization that follows Nabokov throughout his life that makes his account of his life seem more artistic and disconnected, even if there is a profound emotional impact on the reader in the end. While some moments in his life might evoke sympathy, like his retelling of his father s death, or make readers to take a side, such as the incident with Nesbit during his time in Cambridge, Nabokov keeps the reader at a distance by concealing his feelings in rhetoric. An example of this is the short biography (173) of his father. Using vivid details to describe his father, one can feel the spiritual resonance the experience had on Nabokov. In reality, progression in terms of reducing female exploitation has been stagnant at best. Not only is the degradation of women a major problem that to date has not been eradicated, but it is actually being endorsed by some music celebrities. These images serve as a grim reminder that women are being exploited as sexual objects through rap videos. Therefore, the objectification of women through the means of rap music is a major influence in the exploitation of women. In addition to the actualization of women, rap also promotes extreme violence and abuse towards women. Besides the ?mild? abuse the vast majority of rappers perpetually depict, some rappers display a loathing so deep it can only be classified as misogyny. In the song ??97 Bonnie and Clyde,? by Eminem, he says ? There goes mama, splashing in the water. No more fighting with dad, no more restraining order. Blow her kisses bye bye, tell mommy you love her? (Bonnie). In a sinister fashion, the song goes on to describe how he murdered and disposed of his ex wife with the assistance of his three year old daughter. Here the violence towards women crosses generations and involves the traumatic use and abuse of a three year old girl. It promotes that violence, even toward our most vulnerable, is acceptable if they are female. Undeniably, the hip hop culture?s perverse attitude towards the treatment of women has gradually been accepted by society. It seems society has been desensitized to the violence of rap by ... Their preparation consisted of extensive work on the construction of their tombs, preserving the body and making sure it was well protected for the journey of the underworld. When not working on the royal tombs, the villagers of Deir el Medina would have worked extremely hard, building their tombs in preparation for their burial and afterlife. Though not nearly as elaborate the villagers tombs incorporated a number of characteristics associated with a Pharaoh s royal tomb. Their tombs were located on the western side of the village, built into the face of the cliff. Within these tombs the walls were heavily decorated with funerary scenes. An example of this is found in the stonemason, Pashedu s tomb. The tomb wall scene at the rear of the right wall displays Pashedu and his wife, situated on a boat with a table of offerings heading to the afterworld. Due to the incredible skills of the craftsmen of Medina, their own tombs were not only unique in design but also detailed in decoration. It was probably the reason why the pane of glass had a jagged crack running from top to bottom. The crack had been there for as long as he could remember. It was a comfortable reminder of why he came here: no one cared here. He sat in the same place he always sat: a booth in the back near the bathroom. Dorothy, the only waitress this hole in the wall had to offer, acknowledged him with a grunt and asked if he wanted anything. Just a cup of coffee and some pancakes, please. The acrid smoke from his cigar said it was a Carajo, a cheap brand. His grizzled face, squinted eyes, and balding head made him look a lot older than he knew him to be. Nick s pale t shirt and threadbare, faded jeans looked like they were present at the same food explosion Dorothy must have survived, but neither one seemed to notice. People came here to eat cheap food and try to escape their problems, not admire the view. Nick mopped sweat from his brow with his greasy shirt sleeve, and turned the page. Life according to the desires of the flesh (e.g. the self centered appetites and ambitions) leads to slavery, destruction, and death (e.g. addiction). C. Gospel Response 1. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus we have been forgiven of our sins past, present, and future and afforded new life along with freedom and fruitfulness in the Holy Spirit. We ( flesh ) have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us by faith through the Holy Spirit so that we do not gratify the desires of the flesh. We ve all heard it, Why does it matter? Who are they hurting? For them, addiction is addiction until someone is being hurt. The implementation of acts such as manipulating illiterate mothers, infants taken by force, and the paying of young girls to have children are just a few ways that the naïve are taken advantage of (Hollingsworth 48:209). When Americans adopt children that were gained through these unjust acts, it is as if Americans are supporting the injustice, regardless of their previous knowledge of the existence of such situations (Hollingsworth 48:209). The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints Essay Individuals who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are taught gender is an essential characteristic of an individual premortal, mortal, and eternal identity and purpose. (The Family Proclamation to the World) American society teaches through media, that males are to be aggressive, and females are to be submissive. Society teaches individuals to stuff males and females into confining and suppressive boxes, where males are meant to be domineering and females are sexual objects and marriage is disposable. It s such a stark contrast the difference between how those of the faithful LDS families are raised when compared to those who have been integrated into the beliefs of society. Children who are raised to view society as the correct way, are taken into a highly stereotypical, and deceptive world. American society views the acceptable man as being controlling and domineering, whereas the acceptable and desirable woman s purpose is to cater to the man, physically and sexually. Females are nearly always stripped down (often literally) to what lies at their core, their essential, biological womanliness, their essential subordinate position to man. If one s morals say no, there s many diets that exist that don t include animals. A vegan diet consists of not consuming any animal products. Humans choose this diet for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is to cut down on animal cruelty. My not having thought to include animals in that list didn t make them the exceptions to it. It just made me a child, ignorant of the world s workings (Foer).
