George Peter Murdock s Theory Of Structural Functionalism
In the theory of Structural Functionalism, one believes that society is made up of many parts which
depend on each other to work and if one fails, all will fail. Imagine the body; each organ has a set
function. If the heart stopped doing what it was supposed to be doing and tried to digest your food,
what would happen? Functionalists consider family as an essential building block of society. This is an
analogy to decide that if one part of society actually starts failing, the society dies. George Peter
Murdock believes nuclear families carry out 4 essential functions. These functions are Sexual,
Reproductive, Socialization, and Economic. Under the sexual function we have the same partner to
reduce social disruption by of a free for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The person in the family who usually has more access to the money, power and resources, usually the
men in the family, they also have more control over the subordinate parts of the family in most cases
the females. Conflict perspective has an idea that there is a power differential and the families
themselves are constructed in an order to maintain this power differential. This concept means the
children have less power, the females have more power than the children but less power than the
males. This truly reinforces the power differentials and the values that are taught within the family and
also stabilize the family. The family has the same conflicts that we all have in the greater society.
The Symbolic Interaction theory analyzes society by addressing the subjective meanings that people
impose on objects, events, and behaviors. Subjective meanings are given primacy because it is
believed that people behave based on what they believe and not just on what is objectively true. As
families how can we understand each other when we might see things differently, than our spouse or
children? Good communication skills are essential to make sure that we understand what our spouse
or children are saying or hearing. Often times our message gets lost because of our reaction, the tone
of our voice, or our body language. Good

Becoming An Art Director
Art directors create nearly every creative aspect of television programs, video games, motion pictures,
and more. They develop specific details for creating photographs, audio, or graphics used in
broadcasting and advertising. Also, they oversee everyone working around them to make sure the job
is done correctly and exceptionally. Some of their most important tasks include managing budgets,
approving materials, completing storyboards, and selecting and training staff members. Art directors
use both computers and handheld materials to build incredible sets and designs. Without art directors,
there would be very few of the beautiful works of media seen today (Art Directors). Becoming an art

Following the completion of college, I will want to begin searching for a potential job. At the

director; on the other hand, I also want to be able to learn the skills of the trade. It is recommended to
obtain five years of experience in the field of art for television or film before starting an official career
(Noronha 64). Although art direction may be a challenging and taxing job, I believe that I will be a
good fit for this career choice because I have a creative, artistic view of life. I am often pondering
designs and layouts for television shows, movies, advertisements, and more. I also have the
communicative skills needed to become an art director; I find it easy to begin working and
collaborating with new groups of people on projects. This is a career that perfectly fits all of my

Missing Women
There is a huge number of missing women in Canada, and an extremely large number of these women
are Aboriginal. Why do Aboriginal women seem more vulnerable? The majority of these missing
Aboriginal women were living on the streets, living in poverty and working in the sex trade industry
before their disappearances. Why were all of these women in the same situation? I believe that the
Conflict Theory explains the hardships, the abuse and the discrimination that each of these women
faced before they went missing. The Conflict Theory states that society is marked by power struggles
over scarce resources; inequities result in conflict; social change is inevitable. Since the theft of
Aboriginal land and destruction of traditional ways of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aboriginal students were taught to devalue everything Aboriginal and value anything Euro Canadian.
The damage done by residential schools is evident today as Aboriginal people, long deprived of
parenting skills, struggle with family responsibilities. The victimization of Aboriginal women
accelerated with the breakdown of Aboriginal cultural values and the abuse suffered by Aboriginal
children in the schools contributed to family breakdown. This began a cycle of abuse in Aboriginal
communities, with women and children being the primary victims. Aboriginal women and their
children suffer tremendously as victims in contemporary Canadian society. They are the victims of
racism, of sexism and of inconceivable levels of domestic violence as well as incomprehensible
crimes like murder. The tragedy of missing Aboriginal women runs deep into the history of Aboriginal
dispossession and discrimination; it s not just about missing Aboriginal women; its health issues,
housing issues, economic security, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health, racism, and all of those
social factors that create a situation of Aboriginal women becoming victims. Canada contributes to the
issue of missing women by failing to address human rights issues for women. Canada has failed to
provide adequate assistance to women and girls living in poverty. There is a huge link between
poverty, lack of adequate housing, and violence especially for abuses suffered by

Rock And Roll Is Important Throughout The History
Rock and roll is so important throughout the history, which always contributes to the story of music,
the public, and the society. It is an indispensable part of music, in which countless famous artists and
bands shine repeatedly. The trace of rock and roll is easily found everywhere in different types of
music, like hip pop. It has allowed artists to speak on political issues and influence government. For
normal people, sometimes rock and roll is like a window, through which people can notice inequality,
darkness but also hope. It becomes everyone s emotions destination and also is able to instigate
campaigns by utilizing their emotions. Rock and roll is woven into the natural fabric of lifestyle. It is
common to find that someone s favorite music is rock and roll. As for fashion, rock and roll elements
are supposed to appear in lots of clothing, decorations, and bags. As a result, I find it necessary and
interesting to meditate about rock and roll itself and its history. During the development of rock and
roll, from its brith to explosion and be mainstream, it has always been influenced by social and culture
changes. Social and culture context plays the key role in the development and evolution of it. To some
extent, the context controls the death of not only rock and roll but also other genres. However, social
and culture changes also promote the division and brith of new types. In turn, each kind of rock and
roll reflects those changes during the last sixty

The Laramie Project
In Moises Kaufman s, The Laramie Project the under lying theme of the novel is people are afraid of
change. This can be proved from the novel with the character Cathy Connolly and the struggle that
homosexuals have to live in there own society. The juxtaposition of anti gay demonstrations sparked
by religion at a homosexual s funeral, and even the physical setting is related to why people are afraid
of change. Whether it is start by homophobia, religion, or opression, people are not just afraid of
change in general but change for a free society where homosexuals can express and just be
themselves.

Reverend Fred Phelps was the preacher who staged the anti gay demonstration and Matthew was a
homosexual that was brutally beaten and left to die on fence in Wyoming. Simply because he was a
homosexual and [after] seeing Fred Phelps protesting at Matthew s funeral (Kaufman 79) you can see
that Phelps and his followers are afraid of change. Fueled by Phelp s religion that being gay is a sin,
the religion he preaches further opresses homosxuals. Religion plays a large role on homophobia
within Laramie itself. Reverand Phelps was preaching the word of his god, Were standing here with
God s message. We re standing here with God s message. Is homosexuality is being a fag okay? What
do you mean it s not for you to judge? If God doesn t hate fags, why does he put em in hell? (Kaufman
79) Phelps shows absolutly no respect for the family and friends of Matthew Shepard, it reveals that
the Reverend himself is afraid change because if he stoops down that low to shun Matthew from his
religion. Religion plays a big role in homophobia in societies all over the word, in alot of religions to
be gay was different and being different really meant you were condemed, because anyone who
believes in a religion will feel the need to practise the words of their God. The religious juxtaposition
in the novel shows that homophobic people are afraid of accepting homosexuals,

Laurels Recovery Center Reaction Paper
The Laurels Recovery Center is a unique center ran by Cumberland Mountain Community Services.
The Laurels is distinctive due to the fact that they serve a multifaceted role for the community. Not
only do they serve as a detox center, they also house patients who suffer from mental illness. This type
of facility is a haven for patients who suffer from dual diagnoses. At the beginning of the day at the
Laurels Recovery Center, I met a patient immediately upon entering the door. At that time, I was
unaware that he would be the most interesting patient that I would meet that day. He was the only
patient that I met that was there for mental illness, and he proudly proclaimed himself as residential.

In the light of the information about his drug abuse, this patient is a good example of the theory that

finger recently. I asked him if he had received medical care for his broken bones; he replied, no. I
questioned him further on why he hadn t gone to the doctor and he replied, Because I had a drug abuse
problem, they just act like I am there for the drugs. This correlates to the stigma the community puts
on drug abuse. Most members in the community think people can just snap out of a drug addiction or
don t stop using drugs because they are weak. It is these theories possessed by the community that

Digital Essay
Digital
The digital world of today can be understood as a product of late Victorian construction of the
machinery of information organization combined with Modernist visual forms.
The works of Lev Manovich and Dr. Simon Cook use a revisionist approach to examine the past
century and a half of visual forms. In his Late Victorian Reasoning and a Modern History of Vision,
Dr. Cook attempts to prove a link between the late Victorian visual forms and the new vision
(including Modernist art) that Manovich observed in the early half of the twentieth century. In his
work, Lev Manovich traces the relationship from new vision to the computer and new media, claiming
a direct connection between the two. Although it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the science of psychology had a very slow start and growth. In the nineteenth century,
psychology went through a fledging stage in which it attempted to ground itself in different sciences,
such as biology, physics, and philosophy (2). It was this initial experimentation with psychology that
led to the works produced in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century observed by Cook
and Manovich. However, it was the growth of psychology departments in universities and colleges
that led to the visual forms used in the new media. Upon further examination of psychology and the
three visual forms, the importance of psychology in these fields will become evident.
The late Victorian construction of the machinery of information organization included the works of
men like Lewis Carroll and John Venn, who attempted to create visual representations of arguments,
usually on the topic of logic. The link between these two men and psychology can be easily observed
upon examination of Mind, a quarterly publication that was established in 1876. In the first issue of
Mind, George Robertson, the editor of the periodical and a Professor of Philosophy of Mind and Logic
in University College, London, states the purpose of the journal will be an organ for the publication of

The Treatment Of Sickle Cell Anemia
Sickle cell anemia is not only about the body s number of red blood cells (or amount of hemoglobin)
fallen below normal, it s also involves splenic sequestration, vision loss, a stroke, deep vein
thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, gallstones, a very rare form of kidney cancer, etc. Many
different complications feed off of sickle cell anemia, if it s not one thing it s another. There is not a
specific treatment for this disease to make it go away, but as I listed above there are ways of helping
with the pain. It is natural to be scared of catching this disease that is not contagious, but the person
who has the disease is the one who needs to be worrying more about staying away from those who do
not have the disease. Sickle cell anemia causes those to have a higher rick for infection. They have to
take precaution with the food they eat, to be sure food was prepared safely. Those are the therapeutic
ways doctors have helped sickle cell patients today, in the past there were different therapeutic
approaches. Sickle cell disease wasn t yet discovered until the early 1900 s. This disease has been well
known in Africa for at least five thousand years and known by many names in many tribal languages.

A volcano is a weak spot in the crust where molten material, or magma, comes to the surface. In a
volcano there is a magma chamber, pipe, vent, lava flow, and craters. A magma chamber is the pocket
where magma collects under or below a volcano. The pipe of a volcano is the long tube in the ground
that connects the Earth s surface to the magma chamber. A vent in a volcano is where the molten rock
and gas from the volcano leave through an opening. The lava flow is a certain area that is covered by
lava that is coming out of the vent. Lastly, a crater is a bowl shaped area that is formed at the top of

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Analysis
Lover or Foe
In The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Moshin Hamid, The main character Changez experiences life
both as an American and as a Pakistani. The setting take place in a restaurant in Lahore and Changez
is talking to a stranger to our knowledge about his endeavors in America. Changez is in America, and
finds himself becoming more and more fond of the American lifestyle and even meets a girl named
Erica who he first thinks is the love of his life. Fast forwarding into the future Changez s job is not all
as great as he thinks and America in general is not the dream he thought he had been living, Changez
soon figures this out after his relationship with Erica becomes a total bust and his job isn t the amazing
job he thought it was, and he soon feels like a slave to America and the American ways of life. He
ends up returning to Lahore back home and becomes a professor at a university, and is an advocate to
disengagement from America to Lahore. Within this novel Hamid shapes the protagonist, Changez, as
someone who is sincerely both a lover and critic of America. Changez truly does love America, at
least in the beginning, because it was like his relationship with Erica: you first meet a person and you
like what you see, and you get to know that person and start developing feelings and enjoy being with
that person, like he did being in America, but when he started finding out bad things or things she was
doing he did not like, like he did when he found out America was bombing near his country. When
Changez found this out he felt in a sense betrayed. It doesn t mean that he doesn t love America
anymore, but he was simply unaware and now that he s aware he became a critic as well as a lover.
There are many people who travel to America under the impression that they will be Living the
American Dream and before see nothing but love for America. That is exactly what we seen happen
with Changez when he first came to America and we see his love for it grow. Changez at one point is

company by saying, To be reminded of this vast disparity was, for me, to be ashamed. But not on that

Descriptive Essay About Marco Island
When I close my eyes and imagine, I can still clearly hear the gentle splash of the waves lapping the

During the frigid and dreary months of Missouri s winter, there is one place in particular that my heart

crystal clear water, snowy white sands, and a miraculous five star hotel. Marco Island is no Bora Bora,
but to me it s the most enchanting small town that values simplicity and offers pure bliss to anyone
coming to visit. My father proposed the idea of vacationing on Marco Island before the summer of

home, I was holding back tears of joy. The pale grayish blue house looked like it had jumped right out

Mandala And Sunyata Are Codependent
The mandala and sunyata are codependent, as the mandala allows one to fully comprehend sunyata.
However, in order to understand sunyata, one must first acknowledge and comprehend the Theravada
Buddhist teachings. Teachings, such a dependent variation, the no self, and even impermanence, are
also intertwined with both each other, the sunyata, and the mandala. Therefore, while both sunyata and
the Theravada Buddhist teachings may be taught through the mandala, these teachings are crucial in
demonstrating the sunyata. The mandala provides a religious experience through visualization and are

were necessary for the creation of the seed. The creation of the seed and its journey into existence is
similar to that of the mandala. Both creations took significant effort, an excessive amount of time, and
the presence of the right elements to form the creation. Another Theravada Buddhist teaching used to
understand sunyata, is anaatman, or the no self. To begin, anaatman explains that one does not
recognize that everything is casually connected; rather, people cling to words such as I and self,
believing they have a fixed personality. This is not the case as we do not have a fixed independent self
rather, we exist in a constantly changing and advancing process. The mandala demonstrates anaatman

Second, the conch is also a symbol of value. When Ralph first finds the conch, Piggy tells him that it
is valuable. This emphasis on value is not natural in uncivilized creatures. The idea of value is created
by society. The conch represents the value placed on things that are rare hard to obtain in our society,
much like a fancy car or an old work of art. With an emphasis on value comes feelings of jealousy and
envy. This is only natural and can be seen when Jack decides that the conch should only be used by
those he sees as worthy. For good or bad, the conch becomes the only tie to the concept of matieral
value that they boys have left.
Finally, the conch is also a symbol of power. This is because whoever holds it becomes the only
person who may speak during the meetings. In this context, holding the conch represents having
authority. Whoever holds the conch then has the authority to speak and all others must wait until it is
their turn to hold the conch. This is much like standing at the podium or holding the microphone in a
civilized society. Here the conch also represents the organization found in a democratic government
and the idea of raising one s hand in school. Both a democratic government and a school are
organizations that rely on the concept of everyone having a voice and a chance to express themselves.
The conch is the only link left to

guise of gentrification, the white man wanted to take primary control of the area for the sake of a need
for development . The powerful Americans undermined the use values of the Paiute people, and
threatened their quality of life and well being. The Paiutes resisted unsuccessfully (they were no match
for the powerful United States army assisting the white settlers), and through the familiar tactics of
deception, coercion, force, and violence, the Paiute people were forced from their land, and the ones
who remained were stratified, and forced to endure subpar living conditions and work standards. The
tides shifted years later when a new, more powerful group found interest in the natural resources of the
Owen Valley territory. At the time, Los Angeles, California was a growing metropolis, and of major
capitalistic interest to California (with significant ties to the political leaders of the United States as
high up as the president). With the population of Los Angeles out growing its water supply,

Comparing Intersex And Transgender Females Deserve A Place...
Intersex and transgender females deserve a place of belonging in the world of sport. Society s need to
categorize humans makes it difficult for minorities to find a sense of belonging. Humans are easily
given labels by society as gay, straight, black, asian, female, male etc. This system works for the
majority of people, and those who fit in do not see a necessity to change these constructs. As Judith
Butler argues in her essay Undoing Gender we must remake the definition of human by deconstructing
our preconceived notion of humanity and continuously reassembling it. Butler eloquently states This
means we must learn to live and to embrace the destruction and re articulation of the human in the
name of a more capacious and, finally, less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physicist Ira Hammerman discovered that in a set of swimming and running races woman s world
records were consistently about 90 percent of the men s world record. Further research proved this
ratio true across diverse sports (Meyer). Many believe that a male to female transgender holds an
unfair competitive advantage against a cisgender female because they were born as males and
therefore retain some of the advantages that come with masculinity. These advantages go beyond the
biological differences in gender which can be equated with hormonal treatment. In her essay
Essentialism and Experience Bell Hooks discusses the effect of male privilege. She argues that male
students, who have spent most of their lives benefitting from male privilege, do not fully understand
the passion of experience in a classroom. Similarly we can explore the benefits of male privilege in
sport which is a drastically male dominant aspect of society. A study at the University of Southern
California uncovered that L.A. based broadcast affiliates devote only 3.2 percent of airtime to women
s sport (Good). Iris Young builds on this societal imbalance in her essay Throwing Like a Girl. Young
explains how societal structures have a psychological effect on female performance. She argues that
the fact that women cannot throw as far as men is not simply due to the biomechanical differences
between genders but rather

Drugs Control Lives
Drugs Control Lives The long lasting effects on drugs can be destructive. Once you ve become
hooked on drugs they can make you do things you never thought would happen. It always starts out
just wanting to try it to see what it does to you, but usually once you ve started it becomes a habit. A
habit that you start having no control over, and before you know it you ve lost everything that was
important to you. People I know have become victims to drugs and it is sad to see the outcome from
choosing drugs to rule your life. Because of drug use, people hurt their family emotionally and
financially, start stealing or committing crimes to provide for their habit, and it can also negatively
influence their children. Drugs not only effect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents that use drugs usually fight and argue in front of their children and are generally abusive. This
could lead to their child being a bully at school or constantly trying to start fights and talk back to their
teachers. Children that grow up around drugs are more likely to try drugs at a young age. This could
lead to them taking the drugs to school and trying to give or sell them to friends. I ve heard a lot about
youngers kids going to whitfield county schools that have brought drugs to school and ended up
getting caught. These kids end up being expelled from school or being sent to a juvenile correctional
facility. Kids that grow up this way end up being the same as their parents, because that s all they have
known their whole lives. Choosing to let drugs control your everyday life can completely destroy you.
Not only will it hurt you, but also your family and friends who truly care about you. It will make you
lose your job, your friends, your family, and everything that you love. Substance abuse is a hard habit
to break. Before anyone takes a plunge into that world of misery, they need to think about the short
term and long term effects drugs can have on the rest of their

The Effects Of Seismic Surveys On Fauna
The present study monitored the direct and indirect Impacts of seismic surveys on fauna of the
mangrove using Birds Insects, Crabs, Reptiles and fishes as representative taxa. During the 3D seismic
survey, tools, labour and machineries were used inside the mangrove forests. Major sources of faunal
impacts observed during the seismic survey operations were from, 1) Physical presence and
movement of the labour and machinery within the forest and 2) Noise and vibration generated from
shooting (underground explosions). There are four major steps involved in the seismic surveys, that
result in disturbances to the system such as initial survey of the area, laying of cables and geophones,
shot hole drilling, and seismic wave generation through underground explosion (underground
explosion). Many elements of mangrove fauna were observed to be disturbed due to these exploration
process especially people interference.
Impacts on Mangrove fauna
There are many direct short term impacts on mangrove fauna from 3D seismic survey as observed in
the field. These temporary effects had mostly short term impacts since the survey normally lasted only
for few days in any given area. Faunal impacts of prospecting exploration activities through 3D
seismic data acquisition can be categorized broadly into two; direct and indirect impacts. Direct
impacts include changes in activity patterns of mangrove fauna especially birds and crabs in response
to the 3D seismic survey activity. Indirect impacts to

The Studio System In The Golden Age Of Hollywood
The continuing success of the film industry and the subsequent ticket sale receipts proved that the
American public was interested in motion pictures and willing to pay for it. The introduction of sound
and an ever increasing production value was putting customers into seats. The idea was to get the
public out of the house and into the theater, give them what they wanted and thus help them forget the
Depression and the anxieties caused by the events leading up to the Second World War (Barsam 427).
What better way to make the most money out of movies than to control all aspects of the industry, thus
making money each step of the way. This was the studio system in the golden age of Hollywood, a
relatively brief, but influential time period

Francisco De Goya Research Paper
It is often said that losing one sense causes the others to sharpen. Undoubtedly one of history s great
artists in regards to painting and etching, Francisco de Goya is no exception to this legend. The images
created after his brush with death that left him deaf, and especially those painted during the final years
of his life known as the Black Paintings , certainly suggest that his vision grew keener with the loss of
his hearing. A closer look at his career proves that Goya always possessed a keen eye for depicting
people and the world around him as they truly were, even before disease stripped him of his hearing.
From his earliest tapestry cartoons to his politically charged depictions of the Peninsular War, Goya s
paintings and etchings express a brash approach through which he unveils the folly, foolishness, and

Las Meninas and The Surrender of Breda show a grandeur and sophistication of the Spanish nobility
as well as preparations...not only to end the war, but also to initiate the peace that follows,
(Velazquez). Unfortunately, even a century before Goya would truly begin the height of his artistic
journey, shadows lie across most of [Velazquez s] canvases, as if Velázquez sensed what his sitters did
not that the tide had turned against Spain, (Schickel 7). By the time Goya began creating works the

Osteichtyes
EXCRETORY SYSTEM
OF OSTEICHTYES
The main organ in the excretory system of all Osteichthyes is the kidney. They are complex, and
within them is the nephrons. The nephrons form in segments much like an Earthworm. The corpuscle
is part of the nephron that filters blood, and the tubule send back water and solutes (nutrients) into the
blood. The bad and useless componets of the blood are sent to the ureter which is where urine is
removed from the body. Solid wastes are processed through the digestive tract, and removed from the
body out of the anus.
In fishes, some excretion also takes place in the digestive tract, skin, and especially the gills (where
ammonia is given off). Compared with land vertebrates, fishes have a special problem ... Show more

In Fugo chrysops, the distinction between the kidney and the head kidney is not clear. A pair of ureters
leave the posterior end, and they join in front of the small urinary bladder. Corpuscles of Stannus lie
on the dorsal side of the junction of ureters. In typical fresh water fishes, the heterotopic thyoid
follicles are often found in the kidney or the head kidney. In general, the active and fast swimming
fishes have numerous and better developed glomeruli than sluggish fish have. Beyenbach and
Baustian (1989), Beyenbach and Dantzler (1990), Baustian and Beyenbach (1993), Beyenbach (1995)
and Beyenbach and Lui (1996) have provided a wealth information on the comparative physiology of
the proximal tubule. As the first major tubule along the length of the nephron, the proximal tubule is
invariably present in all vertebrate kidney. It performs most renal functions in glomerular kidneys, and
virtually all transport functions in aglomerular kidneys. Aglomerular kidneys secretes magnesium and
sulphate ions, an obvious adaptation to marine conditions. Nevertheless, some aglomerular fish can
now tolerate dilute brackish water or even fresh water. Osteichthyes release their nitrogen as
ammonia. Blood waste are filtered by kidney. And some waste is diffused by the gills. Salt water
osteichthyes are constantly secreting water through their skin. They tend to drink a lot of water

Food Stamps: Why We Need Reform, And How To Do It
Mornings without breakfast transition to nights without dinner, but the situation does not change for
America s poor and needy. The face of food insecurity is often invisible. Behind lowered blinds and
shut doors, poverty establishes itself in many styles and we attempt to defeat it in numerous ways.
Food assistance programs are the primary tool the government uses to alleviate the hunger pangs and
empty diets caused by nutrition insecurity. Increased government oversight is generally not helpful,
but in the case of America s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), such government
management would probably do good. Right now, there is an array of problems facing ... Show more

While such images have some truth to them, they are widely unrepresentative of actual SNAP misuse.
No doubt, there is still discrepancy in some places, as in Georgia, where prosecutors busted a small
country store at the center of forty six hundred dollars worth of food stamp fraud (Severson, 2013).
That is just one example of the fading but worrying trend of misuse. The government has put many
efforts into effect, and these do seem to be partially responsible for the decreasing trend [citation
needed]. Arguably, the most important measure taken was the movement from paper food stamps to
electronic accounting, known as the Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT. Zekeri (2004), in his paper
on college students using SNAP, states that Although the data presented here are limited, one
conclusion seems clear: the goals of EBT reducing theft, fraud, and social stigma or embarrassment in
the food stamp program are being met. Just in the period 2002 2005 (EBT was implemented
nationwide in September 2004), food stamp fraud was reduced by over 50% from the 1999 2000
period, even as SNAP usage increased [citation needed (FNS)]. Overall, among the most vulnerable
members of society SNAP, the National School Lunch Program, and the School Breakfast program,
have all been remarkably successful at their core mission: reducing food insecurity among low income
schoolchildren [citation needed]. While fraud

The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordechai Richler
Mordecai Richler(January 27, 1931 July 3, 2001) was a Canadian author, screenwriter and essayist.
He wrote a lot essays about the Jewish community in Canada, and about nationalism as practised by
Canadian anglophones and the francophone Québécois in addition to his fiction. The Apprenticeship
of Duddy Kravitz (1959) was one of his best works. Like Duddy in the novel, Mordecai Richler came
to Canada as a Jewish immigrant during the times when English was the only official language in
Canada (even in Quebec) and grew up in the large Jewish communities while facing the difficulties
like anti semitism and segregation. He acquired English as his second language after Yiddish and not
French for the same reason. He grew up on St. Urbain Street in the Mile End area of Montreal like
Duddy who grew up in the neighbourhood of Montreal east of Mount Royal Park on and about St.
Urbain Street and Saint Laurent Boulevard (in the poor areas of Montreal where the Jewish
communities were located) and moved to Paris, France for some time at the age of nineteen where his
work as a successful writer began(like Duddy, who went to the Laurentian Mountains for a summer
job and found his career or aim in life even though he didn t settle there). His writings are from a time
when Montreal was divided into sections and communities based on religion, race and class and his
main character Duddy, who s very similar to him, is from the same time. He displays the coming of

I Am A Safe Haven At Your Hands
Imagine having a safe haven at your hands, any time of the day. It is 2013, and I am in seventh grade.
I am scrolling through Twitter in my dark room when I come across a page called Buddy Project, and
decide to read into it. As I am reading, with the light from my phone illuminating my face, I find out
that it s a nonprofit organization that pairs you with a person. It is meant to help you deal with an
eating disorder, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and mental illnesses. I am seeing all of this information
and I know I need to join the project. It was that one day in November that changed my life forever.
I remember my heart racing when I was paired with my first buddy. I found out that her name was
Abby; she was dealing with an eating disorder and suspected she was depressed. We both hadn t
gotten help at this point, so it wasn t truly beneficial. Pain and darkness were consuming our lives, but
speaking up didn t seem like an option. The next year, 2014, I met two new people. Their names were
Danielle and Jay. Again, mutual effort was being made, but nobody got the help they needed yet. I saw
blood curdling messages, but I knew it was my job to help as best as I could. I felt like I was drowning
and gasping for air, but my main priority was the other people. Even though there was a disclaimer
that says not to use the project as a replacement for getting help, that is what so many people did.

Me Talk Pretty One Day Summary
Bonne Année by Jean Pierre Benoît and Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris are memoirs which
are very similar and different. Theme, tone, and character development all help to compare and
contrast these memoirs. Both texts have a large amount of these literary devices. Bonne Année is
about a Haitian child who grows up and learns to love Haiti. He is the narrator of the story. At first, he
doesn t want to go back to Haiti after dictator François Duvalier (Papa Doc) leaves his country or the
world. He is told that this will happen soon. As the narrator grows up, he watches a world cup soccer
match: Italy vs. Haiti. This is still in New York, his home from before. Italy, a country that hasn t been
scored on for two years, gets scored on by the Haitians in the match. Even though Haiti loses, the
narrator feels proud for his natal country. In Me Talk Pretty One Day , the narrator tries to learn
French in Paris. He is given a very strict teacher who hates everyone in the class, especially him. At
the end, though, all is revealed. The narrator can perfectly understand the teacher. The theme of both
these texts is similar and different. In Bonne Année , one quote is this: Perhaps the natal pull is
stronger than it seems. (Benoît 36). One theme of this story is that homeland is very important. In Me
Talk Pretty One Day , though, there is a different theme. The teacher proceeded to belittle everyone
from German Eva, who hated laziness, to Japanese Yukari, who loved

Film Techniques In The Birds
The Birds, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is a thriller movie created in the 1960s. Throughout the
movie the main character, Melanie, goes through a substantial transformation. In the beginning of the
movie Melanie is childish, and is used to having whatever she wants handed to her. As the movie
progresses the viewer sees Melanie become more mature and act as a mother. At the start of the movie
it is evident that Melanie is very immature. She comes from a wealthy family and is accustomed to
having a high standard of living without working for it. She can barely take care of herself, let alone
take care of herself and a family. This is evident through the scene in the movie when Melanie is in the
bird shop. She only wants to purchase a bird that is full grown, and clarifies with the shop owner that

like some tea. Melanie adjusts the pillows behind Lydia and makes sure that she is warm enough. This
scene is very symbolic in that is portrays Melanie s growth. The roles of Lydia and Melanie reverse:
Melanie acts as the mother and Lydia acts as the daughter. Mothers are known for always trying help
to their children, even when the help isn t asked for. Mothers are nurturers, they are selfless. Melanie
is playing the role of the mother by providing comfort. This is a very substantial turn in Melanie s
character. Another scene that illustrates Melanie s transformation is towards the end of the movie
when the birds are attacking the house. Terrified, Cathy cuddles in Melanie s arms. Melanie again acts
as a mother by hugging Cathy and gently rubbing her

TS Elliot s The Use of Poetry
In The Use of Poetry T.S. Elliot delineates the function of literature:
[Literature] may make us from time to time a little more aware of the deeper, unnamed feelings which
form the substratum of our being, to which we rarely penetrate; for our lives are mostly a constant
evasion of ourselves, and an evasion of the visible and sensible world.
In other words, reading literature goes beyond just the words of the author. As readers, we become
more aware of what the narrator and of what the characters might be feeling. There are feelings that
form our underlying base of who we are and a lot of the times we avoid them because they re a
constant reminder of what s real versus what we want to think is real. From time to time literature may
make the readers thing of something personal that gives us a sense of reality. Through John Updike s
Rabbit Run, Vladimir Nabokov s Pale Fire, Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings, James Joyce s Araby,
Patrick White s The Vivesector, and Jorge Luis Borges Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote readers
come to find a sense of reality within the characters portrayed through these works. In John Updike s
Rabbit Run, we see Harry Rabbit Angstrom constantly running from his problems throughout the
novel. The story begins telling us that Harry was a salesman who married a coworker Janice whom
was currently pregnant with their first child. Throughout the novel we come to find that Rabbit is very
self centered, even though he doesn t know what he

We Must Make Virtual Child Pornography Illegal Essay
The Supreme Court lifted a 1996 act banning virtual child pornography. The six to three ruling, led by
Justice Anthony Kennedy, says the law violates First Amendment freedom of speech rights guaranteed
to every citizen of the United States of America. Although many free speech advocates are shouting
victory, many citizens across the country are lamenting over the loss in the fight against child
pornography.
Child pornography has been present in society for centuries, but has only recently become more
accessible through the development of the printing press and subsequently, the technology of the
Internet. Until the mid 1990s, illegal child pornography [had only] involved depictions of actual
children engaged in sexually explicit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quick to validate the new law, Congress proclaimed that child pornography is often used as part of a
method of seducing other children into sexual activity (Slade). Congress further went on to say that
with recent technology, having the ability to alter and enhance sexually exploitive images might
render enforcement against pornography using real children impossible because determining real
pictures from enhanced picture had the probability of being a very daunting and challenging task. This
strengthened the government s argument that the law had a significant potential to protect many
children from molestation and abuse.
Child pornography laws instated during the 1970s were some of the first in the crusade to protect
children from sexual predators. This was because most of national news magazines were printing
detailed articles concerning child sexual abuse at the time. In just a few weeks, a national campaign
against the making and sale of child pornography exploded (Finkelhor 1) and politicians took note. In
1977, the government enacted the Sexual Exploitation of Children Act which prohibited sexually
explicit photography of minors, the use of minors in production of pornography, and any material
promoting child pornography. Due to misunderstandings of what minor really meant, the Child
Protection Act of 1984 was ratified. It was then concluded that

  • 2. George Peter Murdock s Theory Of Structural Functionalism In the theory of Structural Functionalism, one believes that society is made up of many parts which depend on each other to work and if one fails, all will fail. Imagine the body; each organ has a set function. If the heart stopped doing what it was supposed to be doing and tried to digest your food, what would happen? Functionalists consider family as an essential building block of society. This is an analogy to decide that if one part of society actually starts failing, the society dies. George Peter Murdock believes nuclear families carry out 4 essential functions. These functions are Sexual, Reproductive, Socialization, and Economic. Under the sexual function we have the same partner to reduce social disruption by of a free for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The person in the family who usually has more access to the money, power and resources, usually the men in the family, they also have more control over the subordinate parts of the family in most cases the females. Conflict perspective has an idea that there is a power differential and the families themselves are constructed in an order to maintain this power differential. This concept means the children have less power, the females have more power than the children but less power than the males. This truly reinforces the power differentials and the values that are taught within the family and also stabilize the family. The family has the same conflicts that we all have in the greater society. The Symbolic Interaction theory analyzes society by addressing the subjective meanings that people impose on objects, events, and behaviors. Subjective meanings are given primacy because it is believed that people behave based on what they believe and not just on what is objectively true. As families how can we understand each other when we might see things differently, than our spouse or children? Good communication skills are essential to make sure that we understand what our spouse or children are saying or hearing. Often times our message gets lost because of our reaction, the tone of our voice, or our body language. Good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Becoming An Art Director Art directors create nearly every creative aspect of television programs, video games, motion pictures, and more. They develop specific details for creating photographs, audio, or graphics used in broadcasting and advertising. Also, they oversee everyone working around them to make sure the job is done correctly and exceptionally. Some of their most important tasks include managing budgets, approving materials, completing storyboards, and selecting and training staff members. Art directors use both computers and handheld materials to build incredible sets and designs. Without art directors, there would be very few of the beautiful works of media seen today (Art Directors). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This way I could develop experience in the field of art direction that could be used in my future career. Following the completion of college, I will want to begin searching for a potential job. At the beginning, I do not want to take too much responsibility but rather ease myself into being an art director; on the other hand, I also want to be able to learn the skills of the trade. It is recommended to obtain five years of experience in the field of art for television or film before starting an official career (Noronha 64). Although art direction may be a challenging and taxing job, I believe that I will be a good fit for this career choice because I have a creative, artistic view of life. I am often pondering designs and layouts for television shows, movies, advertisements, and more. I also have the communicative skills needed to become an art director; I find it easy to begin working and collaborating with new groups of people on projects. The majority of these missing Aboriginal women were living on the streets, living in poverty and working in the sex trade industry before their disappearances. Why were all of these women in the same situation? I believe that the Conflict Theory explains the hardships, the abuse and the discrimination that each of these women faced before they went missing. The Conflict Theory states that society is marked by power struggles over scarce resources; inequities result in conflict; social change is inevitable. Since the theft of Aboriginal land and destruction of traditional ways of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aboriginal students were taught to devalue everything Aboriginal and value anything Euro Canadian. The damage done by residential schools is evident today as Aboriginal people, long deprived of parenting skills, struggle with family responsibilities. The victimization of Aboriginal women accelerated with the breakdown of Aboriginal cultural values and the abuse suffered by Aboriginal children in the schools contributed to family breakdown. This began a cycle of abuse in Aboriginal communities, with women and children being the primary victims. Aboriginal women and their children suffer tremendously as victims in contemporary Canadian society. They are the victims of racism, of sexism and of inconceivable levels of domestic violence as well as incomprehensible crimes like murder. The tragedy of missing Aboriginal women runs deep into the history of Aboriginal dispossession and discrimination; it s not just about missing Aboriginal women; its health issues, housing issues, economic security, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health, racism, and all of those social factors that create a situation of Aboriginal women becoming victims. Canada contributes to the issue of missing women by failing to address human rights issues for women. Canada has failed to provide adequate assistance to women and girls living in poverty. • 5. Rock And Roll Is Important Throughout The History Rock and roll is so important throughout the history, which always contributes to the story of music, the public, and the society. It is an indispensable part of music, in which countless famous artists and bands shine repeatedly. The trace of rock and roll is easily found everywhere in different types of music, like hip pop. It has allowed artists to speak on political issues and influence government. For normal people, sometimes rock and roll is like a window, through which people can notice inequality, darkness but also hope. It becomes everyone s emotions destination and also is able to instigate campaigns by utilizing their emotions. Rock and roll is woven into the natural fabric of lifestyle. It is common to find that someone s favorite music is rock and roll. As for fashion, rock and roll elements are supposed to appear in lots of clothing, decorations, and bags. As a result, I find it necessary and interesting to meditate about rock and roll itself and its history. During the development of rock and roll, from its brith to explosion and be mainstream, it has always been influenced by social and culture changes. Social and culture context plays the key role in the development and evolution of it. To some extent, the context controls the death of not only rock and roll but also other genres. However, social and culture changes also promote the division and brith of new types. In turn, each kind of rock and roll reflects those changes during the last sixty ... The juxtaposition of anti gay demonstrations sparked by religion at a homosexual s funeral, and even the physical setting is related to why people are afraid of change. Whether it is start by homophobia, religion, or opression, people are not just afraid of change in general but change for a free society where homosexuals can express and just be themselves. Fueled by Phelp s religion that being gay is a sin, the religion he preaches further opresses homosxuals. Religion plays a large role on homophobia within Laramie itself. Reverand Phelps was preaching the word of his god, Were standing here with God s message. We re standing here with God s message. Is homosexuality is being a fag okay? What do you mean it s not for you to judge? If God doesn t hate fags, why does he put em in hell? The Laurels is distinctive due to the fact that they serve a multifaceted role for the community. Not only do they serve as a detox center, they also house patients who suffer from mental illness. This type of facility is a haven for patients who suffer from dual diagnoses. At the beginning of the day at the Laurels Recovery Center, I met a patient immediately upon entering the door. At that time, I was unaware that he would be the most interesting patient that I would meet that day. He was the only patient that I met that was there for mental illness, and he proudly proclaimed himself as residential. The day progressed and I got to know him better the more I talked to him. I asked him if he had received medical care for his broken bones; he replied, no. I questioned him further on why he hadn t gone to the doctor and he replied, Because I had a drug abuse problem, they just act like I am there for the drugs. This correlates to the stigma the community puts on drug abuse. Most members in the community think people can just snap out of a drug addiction or don t stop using drugs because they are weak. Digital Essay Digital The digital world of today can be understood as a product of late Victorian construction of the machinery of information organization combined with Modernist visual forms. The works of Lev Manovich and Dr. Simon Cook use a revisionist approach to examine the past century and a half of visual forms. In his Late Victorian Reasoning and a Modern History of Vision, Dr. Cook attempts to prove a link between the late Victorian visual forms and the new vision (including Modernist art) that Manovich observed in the early half of the twentieth century. However, it was the growth of psychology departments in universities and colleges that led to the visual forms used in the new media. Upon further examination of psychology and the three visual forms, the importance of psychology in these fields will become evident. The late Victorian construction of the machinery of information organization included the works of men like Lewis Carroll and John Venn, who attempted to create visual representations of arguments, usually on the topic of logic. Changez is in America, and finds himself becoming more and more fond of the American lifestyle and even meets a girl named Erica who he first thinks is the love of his life. Fast forwarding into the future Changez s job is not all as great as he thinks and America in general is not the dream he thought he had been living, Changez soon figures this out after his relationship with Erica becomes a total bust and his job isn t the amazing job he thought it was, and he soon feels like a slave to America and the American ways of life. He ends up returning to Lahore back home and becomes a professor at a university, and is an advocate to disengagement from America to Lahore. Within this novel Hamid shapes the protagonist, Changez, as someone who is sincerely both a lover and critic of America. Changez truly does love America, at least in the beginning, because it was like his relationship with Erica: you first meet a person and you like what you see, and you get to know that person and start developing feelings and enjoy being with that person, like he did being in America, but when he started finding out bad things or things she was doing he did not like, like he did when he found out America was bombing near his country. • 30. Food Stamp Reform Holes in the SNAP Food Stamps: Why We Need Reform, And How To Do It Mornings without breakfast transition to nights without dinner, but the situation does not change for America s poor and needy. The face of food insecurity is often invisible. Behind lowered blinds and shut doors, poverty establishes itself in many styles and we attempt to defeat it in numerous ways. Food assistance programs are the primary tool the government uses to alleviate the hunger pangs and empty diets caused by nutrition insecurity. Increased government oversight is generally not helpful, but in the case of America s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), such government management would probably do good. Right now, there is an array of problems facing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While such images have some truth to them, they are widely unrepresentative of actual SNAP misuse. No doubt, there is still discrepancy in some places, as in Georgia, where prosecutors busted a small country store at the center of forty six hundred dollars worth of food stamp fraud (Severson, 2013). That is just one example of the fading but worrying trend of misuse. The government has put many efforts into effect, and these do seem to be partially responsible for the decreasing trend [citation needed]. Arguably, the most important measure taken was the movement from paper food stamps to electronic accounting, known as the Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT. Zekeri (2004), in his paper on college students using SNAP, states that Although the data presented here are limited, one conclusion seems clear: the goals of EBT reducing theft, fraud, and social stigma or embarrassment in the food stamp program are being met. Just in the period 2002 2005 (EBT was implemented nationwide in September 2004), food stamp fraud was reduced by over 50% from the 1999 2000 period, even as SNAP usage increased [citation needed (FNS)]. Overall, among the most vulnerable members of society SNAP, the National School Lunch Program, and the School Breakfast program, have all been remarkably successful at their core mission: reducing food insecurity among low income schoolchildren [citation needed]. • 31. The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordechai Richler Mordecai Richler(January 27, 1931 July 3, 2001) was a Canadian author, screenwriter and essayist. He wrote a lot essays about the Jewish community in Canada, and about nationalism as practised by Canadian anglophones and the francophone Québécois in addition to his fiction. The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (1959) was one of his best works. Like Duddy in the novel, Mordecai Richler came to Canada as a Jewish immigrant during the times when English was the only official language in Canada (even in Quebec) and grew up in the large Jewish communities while facing the difficulties like anti semitism and segregation. He acquired English as his second language after Yiddish and not French for the same reason. He grew up on St. Urbain Street in the Mile End area of Montreal like Duddy who grew up in the neighbourhood of Montreal east of Mount Royal Park on and about St. Urbain Street and Saint Laurent Boulevard (in the poor areas of Montreal where the Jewish communities were located) and moved to Paris, France for some time at the age of nineteen where his work as a successful writer began(like Duddy, who went to the Laurentian Mountains for a summer job and found his career or aim in life even though he didn t settle there). His writings are from a time when Montreal was divided into sections and communities based on religion, race and class and his main character Duddy, who s very similar to him, is from the same time. I am scrolling through Twitter in my dark room when I come across a page called Buddy Project, and decide to read into it. As I am reading, with the light from my phone illuminating my face, I find out that it s a nonprofit organization that pairs you with a person. It is meant to help you deal with an eating disorder, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and mental illnesses. I am seeing all of this information and I know I need to join the project. It was that one day in November that changed my life forever. I remember my heart racing when I was paired with my first buddy. I found out that her name was Abby; she was dealing with an eating disorder and suspected she was depressed. We both hadn t gotten help at this point, so it wasn t truly beneficial. Pain and darkness were consuming our lives, but speaking up didn t seem like an option. The next year, 2014, I met two new people. Their names were Danielle and Jay. Again, mutual effort was being made, but nobody got the help they needed yet. I saw blood curdling messages, but I knew it was my job to help as best as I could. I felt like I was drowning and gasping for air, but my main priority was the other people. Even though there was a disclaimer that says not to use the project as a replacement for getting help, that is what so many people did. • 33. Me Talk Pretty One Day Summary Bonne Année by Jean Pierre Benoît and Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris are memoirs which are very similar and different. Theme, tone, and character development all help to compare and contrast these memoirs. Both texts have a large amount of these literary devices. Bonne Année is about a Haitian child who grows up and learns to love Haiti. He is the narrator of the story. At first, he doesn t want to go back to Haiti after dictator François Duvalier (Papa Doc) leaves his country or the world. He is told that this will happen soon. As the narrator grows up, he watches a world cup soccer match: Italy vs. Haiti. This is still in New York, his home from before. Italy, a country that hasn t been scored on for two years, gets scored on by the Haitians in the match. Even though Haiti loses, the narrator feels proud for his natal country. In Me Talk Pretty One Day , the narrator tries to learn French in Paris. He is given a very strict teacher who hates everyone in the class, especially him. At the end, though, all is revealed. The narrator can perfectly understand the teacher. The theme of both these texts is similar and different. In Bonne Année , one quote is this: Perhaps the natal pull is stronger than it seems. (Benoît 36). One theme of this story is that homeland is very important. In Me Talk Pretty One Day , though, there is a different theme. The teacher proceeded to belittle everyone from German Eva, who hated laziness, to Japanese Yukari, who loved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Film Techniques In The Birds The Birds, directed by Alfred Hitchcock, is a thriller movie created in the 1960s. Throughout the movie the main character, Melanie, goes through a substantial transformation. In the beginning of the movie Melanie is childish, and is used to having whatever she wants handed to her. As the movie progresses the viewer sees Melanie become more mature and act as a mother. At the start of the movie it is evident that Melanie is very immature. She comes from a wealthy family and is accustomed to having a high standard of living without working for it. She can barely take care of herself, let alone take care of herself and a family. This is evident through the scene in the movie when Melanie is in the bird shop. She only wants to purchase a bird that is full grown, and clarifies with the shop owner that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is evident through multiple scenes in the movie, one being the scene after Lydia finds Dan, the chicken feed seller, dead with his eyes poked out by birds. Lying in her bed with her eyes wide in fear, Lydia is in shock. Melanie enters her room to comfort her: It s me, Mrs. Brenner. I thought you might like some tea. Melanie adjusts the pillows behind Lydia and makes sure that she is warm enough. This scene is very symbolic in that is portrays Melanie s growth. The roles of Lydia and Melanie reverse: Melanie acts as the mother and Lydia acts as the daughter. Mothers are known for always trying help to their children, even when the help isn t asked for. Mothers are nurturers, they are selfless. Melanie is playing the role of the mother by providing comfort. This is a very substantial turn in Melanie s character. Another scene that illustrates Melanie s transformation is towards the end of the movie when the birds are attacking the house. Terrified, Cathy cuddles in Melanie s arms. • 35. TS Elliot s The Use of Poetry In The Use of Poetry T.S. Elliot delineates the function of literature: [Literature] may make us from time to time a little more aware of the deeper, unnamed feelings which form the substratum of our being, to which we rarely penetrate; for our lives are mostly a constant evasion of ourselves, and an evasion of the visible and sensible world. In other words, reading literature goes beyond just the words of the author. As readers, we become more aware of what the narrator and of what the characters might be feeling. There are feelings that form our underlying base of who we are and a lot of the times we avoid them because they re a constant reminder of what s real versus what we want to think is real. From time to time literature may make the readers thing of something personal that gives us a sense of reality. Through John Updike s Rabbit Run, Vladimir Nabokov s Pale Fire, Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings, James Joyce s Araby, Patrick White s The Vivesector, and Jorge Luis Borges Pierre Menard, Author of the Quixote readers come to find a sense of reality within the characters portrayed through these works. In John Updike s Rabbit Run, we see Harry Rabbit Angstrom constantly running from his problems throughout the novel. The story begins telling us that Harry was a salesman who married a coworker Janice whom was currently pregnant with their first child. • 36. We Must Make Virtual Child Pornography Illegal Essay The Supreme Court lifted a 1996 act banning virtual child pornography. The six to three ruling, led by Justice Anthony Kennedy, says the law violates First Amendment freedom of speech rights guaranteed to every citizen of the United States of America. Although many free speech advocates are shouting victory, many citizens across the country are lamenting over the loss in the fight against child pornography. Child pornography has been present in society for centuries, but has only recently become more accessible through the development of the printing press and subsequently, the technology of the Internet. Until the mid 1990s, illegal child pornography [had only] involved depictions of actual children engaged in sexually explicit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quick to validate the new law, Congress proclaimed that child pornography is often used as part of a method of seducing other children into sexual activity (Slade). Congress further went on to say that with recent technology, having the ability to alter and enhance sexually exploitive images might render enforcement against pornography using real children impossible because determining real pictures from enhanced picture had the probability of being a very daunting and challenging task. This strengthened the government s argument that the law had a significant potential to protect many children from molestation and abuse. Child pornography laws instated during the 1970s were some of the first in the crusade to protect children from sexual predators. This was because most of national news magazines were printing detailed articles concerning child sexual abuse at the time. In just a few weeks, a national campaign against the making and sale of child pornography exploded (Finkelhor 1) and politicians took note. In 1977, the government enacted the Sexual Exploitation of Children Act which prohibited sexually explicit photography of minors, the use of minors in production of pornography, and any material promoting child pornography. Due to misunderstandings of what minor really meant, the Child Protection Act of 1984 was ratified. It was then concluded that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
