SCIENCE 7The Microscope
MELC : Identifies parts of the microscope and their
function.
Quarter : 2
Week : 7
Objectives :
A. Identifies the parts of the microscope;
B. Labels and gives the function of each part of the
microscope; and
C. Appreciates the importance of microscope in studying
about life.
Let’s have a recap…
What are the levels of organization?
CELL
TISSUE
ORGAN
ORGAN
SYSTEM
ORGANISM
How are you going to define each of them?
LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION
basic unit of life
same type of cells grouped together to do a specific job
consist of different tissue organized together to perform a
certain function
group of organs working together
aggregation of the organ systems that work together to
bring about various life activities

Let’s start…
Questions:
1. What have you observed about the
picture?
2. Can you see the bacteria present
in the trash bin?
3. Why can’t you see the bacteria?
4. What instrument are we going to
use to see/view small particles or
organisms found in the trash bin?
MICROSCOPE is an instrument used to see objects that are too
small for the naked eye.
The science of investigating small objects
using such an instrument is called
microscopy.
Microscopic means invisible to the eye
unless aided by a microscope.
TYPES OF MICROSCOPE
COMPOUND MICROSCOPESIMPLE MICROSCOPE
Composed of one lens and
provide relatively low
magnifying power.
Composed of two or more
lenses that provide powerful
magnification.

BASE
Mirror – reflects the light from the source to the specimen.
Diaphragm – regulates the amount of light striking the specimen.
Eyepiece – focuses light to the eye; where the observer peeps
through.
Objectives – gather light.
PARTS AND FUNCTIONS OF A COMPOUND MICROSCOPE
ILLUMINATING PARTS Provide the Light
Ocular lens – enlarges the object six times (6x) or ten times
(10x).
Objective lenses – aside from gathering light, they magnify the
image.
- Low Power Objective (LPO) that locates and enlarges the specimen
10x.
- High Power Objective (HPO) that enlarges the specimen 40x, 43x, or
45x.
- Oil immersion Objective (OIO) that enlarges the object 100x.
MAGNIFYING PARTS Enlarge the Specimen
PARTS AND FUNCTIONS OF A COMPOUND MICROSCOPE
Base – supports the entire weight of the microscope.
Arm – supports the body tubes.
Body tube – connects the lenses of the objectives and the
ocular.
Stage – holds the slide
Stage clips – holds the slide firmly in place
MECHANICAL PARTS Adjustments and Supports
PARTS AND FUNCTIONS OF A COMPOUND MICROSCOPE
Adjustment screws – move the objectives and the ocular.
Coarse Adjustment Knob is the large knob that moves the body
tube faster to focus the specimen.
Fine Adjustment Knob is the smaller knob that is used to get a
sharp focus of the specimen being viewed.
Revolving nosepiece – is a rotating disc that holds the different
objectives.

Let’s wrap it up.
I. Identify the parts of the microscope that is being described below.
mirror
base
diaphragm
eyepiece
objectives
1. It reflects the light from the source to the specimen.
2. It supports the entire weight of the microscope.
3. It regulates the amount of light striking the specimen.
4. It focuses light to the eye.
5. It gathers light.
1. Compound Microscope is categorized into three parts. What are they?
2. Differentiate Coarse adjustment crew from Fine adjustment screw.
II. ESSAY: Answer briefly yet comprehensively. Write your answer in two to
three sentences for 10 points.
ONLINE / MODULAR
Let’s solve this…
For online, submit your answer on Saturday, November 14, 2020 @
02:00 PM to Google Classroom.
For modular, write your answer on a short bondpaper and submit your
answer on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 @ 08:00 – 04:00 PM here in school.

OUTPUT #2.1: LET’S SEE IT CLEARLY…
TASK: Draw a compound microscope and label each part. Below, specify
how important is microscope in our lives and how it helps our scientists in
the discovery of medicine to cure diseases and bacteria. Use short
bondpaper in making this output.
