Civilization and Its Discontents, by Sigmeund Freud Essay...
Civilization and Its Discontents is a book written by Sigmund Freud in 1929 (originally titled Das
Unbehagen in der Kultur or The Uneasiness in Culture.) This is considered to be one of Freud s most
important and widely read works. In this book, Freud explains his perspective by enumerating what he
sees as fundamental tensions between civilization and the individual. He asserts that this tension stems
from the individual s quest for freedom and non conformity and civilization s quest for uniformity and
instinctual repression. Most of humankind s primitive instincts are clearly destructive to the health and
well being of a human community (such as the desire to kill.) As a direct result, civilization creates
laws designed to prohibit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Freud theorizes that this oceanic feeling is a regression into an earlier state of consciousness before the
ego had differentiated itself from the world of objects. Freud also theorizes that the religious oceanic
feeling arises from the infant s helplessness and the longing for the father and imagine[s] that the
oceanic feeling became connected with religion later on. In other words, the oceanic feeling is not a
genuine religious experience, though people experience it that way. Throughout the rest of the book,
Freud addresses the conflict between civilization and the individual. He starts with the fundamental
paradox of civilization: we created civilization as a tool to protect ourselves from unhappiness;
however it is our largest source of unhappiness. He also points out that contemporary technological
advances have been a mixed blessing for human happiness. He also asks what the purpose of
civilization is if it is not to satisfy the pleasure principal. He later concedes that civilization has to
make compromises of happiness to fulfill its primary goal of bringing people into peaceful
relationships with each other, by making them subject to a higher, communal authority. Freud included
a cornucopia of various themes in this book. The first of these is the recurring theme of the primal
father and his psychological heritage. This is one of Freud s most controversial cultural speculations.
Freud proposes that human societies were

Similarities Between Bordeaux And Burgundy From The Same...
Introduction This paper will zero in on compare and contrast two different regions which are
Bordeaux and Burgundy in the same field: location, Climate and Terroir, and Grapes. Discuss the early
history of the development of each region, including the specific examples. Then review the location,
Climate and Terroir, and Grapes that rank the wines as among the best in the world. To conclude, look
into the future of each region to analyze prospects for continued success.
The history of Bordeaux Wine The history of the Bordeaux wine region dates back to the ancient
Romans who were the first people to cultivate, plant vineyards and produce Bordeaux wine. The
Romans took over the area in about 60 BC, and it was starting to earn fame for its wines as far back as
in 1152 when Henry of England wed Eleanor of Aquitaine, who controlled the region. The Bordeaux
appellation was perfect for cultivating grapes for wine. It offered the unique combination of the right
soil for growing grapes used in the production of wine coupled with easy access to the Garonne river,
which was needed to help ship the wines. Because after a series of attacks on the city in 1206, greater
freedom was granted, so it lead to the 12th century became the start of Bordeaux s golden age. Over
the centuries winemakers of the region have mastered both the art of blending and have learnt to work
with Bordeaux s unique climate and terrain to produce a wide diversity of reds, whites and roses all

A Look Into Nagy s Face Analysis
A Look Into Nagi s Face Analysis
How destructive is power? This is a question one might contemplate while reading A Look into Nagi s
Face . Alaa El Aswani depicted power s effect on a very small environment represented in the
classroom. A Look into Nagi s Face tells the story of a young boy who appears to be in the
lower/middle class. This boy went to a strict French school where the teacher would hit whoever
makes a mistake. When this happens other students would act as if they had seen nothing and the day
would just continue normally. One day, Nagi, a new rich student with French origins came to the
school and all the students became fascinated by him. He became their leader and the day the teacher
hit him they all revolted. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But he pushes me violently away and then turns to the blackboard and writes my name, and the frère
comes and he gives me ten strokes with the cane in front of the class.
When we come to analyze the style of the writer in the story we find that he used a simple style, yet
emphasized symbolism. The writer used informal diction in order to appeal to the people and not
complicate the message he is sending. However, the writer depended largely on symbolism, which
might be difficult for some readers to grasp. The whole story is based on symbolism; the school
resembled a country, the teacher resembled the leader, the students resembled the people and finally
Nagi resembled a political party or a potential leader. When looking at it from this point of view, it
shows that at the beginning the people students were slaves to the teacher and even not supporting
each other, but then came the potential leader Nagi who gave them a ray of hope, which made them
follow him. However, the minute this leader got authority, he became a slave to power just like the
previous leader and forgot about the people who helped him reach where he is.
This story shows how power enslaves people and how destructive it could be to people s souls and
conscience. Which is stated clearly in the last paragraph if the story: Here I am. Tears wet my face, my
hand stings, and I turn to Nagi, who stands forever next to the frère. I keep looking at him. Maybe he

The Influence Of Copyright On Popular Culture
As of the early twenty first century, capitalism has been the dominant economic system in most parts
of the world and has had a huge influence on the production of popular culture. Geared towards the
generation of profit, a capitalistic economy ensures that individuals and corporations possess the
power of creating and distributing wealth, as opposed to the public or the state. In order to maximize
profit, as is the main goal for individuals in capitalism, copyright appears to have become one of many
tools used by corporations most directly involved in the culture industry.
Though copyright may have been originally developed with the thought that it would increase
indigenous culture production, it is not feasible for artists to create work ... Show more content on

attempted to target people emotionally by creating ad campaigns describing file sharing as the
equivalent to theft; however, these were only met with mixed success. This was perhaps due to the fact
that file sharing also exposed the fact that the artists who create the music see very little profit. With
the majority of profits going to the marketing and distribution practices of major record labels, society

BOOK REVIEW Review of The Twenty four Hour Mind: The Role of Sleep and Dreaming in Our
Emotional Lives by Rosalind Cartwright 224 pages Oxford University Press, USA; * edition (June 24,

brilliant clinician. Most impressively it lays out in convincing detail the argument for the theory of the

After pushing the body into the pool Falater apparently went back into the house. Cartwright thinks
Ealater went back into the house to go back to bed/sleep, just as most other sleepwalkers do unless
they are awakened by a loud sound. The police called to the scene by the neighbor found Falater
coming down the stairs from the bedroom and the body floating in the pool. One pities this family,
especially the teenage children who were apparently asleep when all this happened but awoke to the
father being led away in handcuffs and their mother brutally murdered. Falater was convicted of
murder despite the defense s claim that the defendant has been sleepwalking. In the years that he has
been in jail Falater sent Cartwright many of his dreams which she reproduces (with his permission) in
an appendix of the book. The neuro psychologic conditions under which this sort of violent tragedy
can occur are laid out and extensively discussed by Cartwright. All apply to the Falater case. There is
usually a Stressor in the patient s life that disrupts sleep. There is usually a history of sleepwalking and
a family vulnerability to the disorder. The parasomnia usually occurs in the first part of the night in a
NREM stage. After the event the patient is utterly amnestic for the episode and attempts no cover up
of the deed. There is grief, remorse and efforts to cooperate in the investigation. Cartwright sees it as
an obligation of the scientist that when he or she has

The United States Involvement in the Korean War
Communism has been a global problem for decades, and has caused a wide array of issues. The Soviet
Union and China were the main Communist threats post World War II. The Soviets were the biggest
threat, without their influence, China would not have become a Communist nation. North Korea was
supported by the Soviet Union after the Japanese lost World War II. They adopted a Communist
government called the Democratic People s Republic of Korea and was ruled under Kim Il sung.
North Korea invaded South Korea, an authoritarian country, which drew involvement from the United
States, and in general, the United Nations. US involvement in Korea is debatebly because of the rising
threat of global Communism and the attempt of North Korea taking South Korea.
North and South Korea hosted a raging battle that involved a lot more than just the two countries.
North Korea before 1950 was occupied by Japanese imperialists. After the Japanese lost World War II,
The Soviet Union occupied the region north of the 38th parallel. They underwent a Communist
government called the Democratic People s Republic of Korea (North Korea Wikipedia.org 5). In June
of 1950, the poorly influenced North Korea invaded the 38th parallel into the south, starting the
Korean War. By July, the United States had become involved on the south s behalf. Although it was to
prevent one country from imperializing another, the war was more generally seen by the United States
as a war of international Communism. One of their

Marijuana Vs Tobacco Essay
Marijuana Vs Tobacco
Nowadays there is a big dilemma to whether legalize marijuana or not and whether marijuana is really
a lot more dangerous than tobacco. There are big differences between the two of them, but there is,
without any doubt, one that has a lot more negative effects on the human body and the human brain
than the other. Due to research we can compare them and conclude which one is worse.

are known to be poisonous) are present in cigarettes (Health).
Tobacco is a nervous system stimulant that triggers complex biochemical and neurotransmitter
disruptions. It elevates heart rate and blood pressure, constricts blood vessels, irritates lung tissue, and
diminishes your ability to taste and smell (Health).
Many people think smoking marijuana is just as harmful as smoking tobacco, but this is not true.
Those who hold that marijuana is equivalent to tobacco are misinformed. Due to the efforts of various
federal agencies to discourage the use of marijuana in the 1970 s the government conducted several
biased studies designed to return results that would equate marijuana smoking with tobacco smoking,

Nurse Driven, Sleep Hygiene Protocol, A Source Of Anxiety...
The inability to sleep is a source of anxiety and stress for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU); this
inability can lead to cardiorespiratory disturbances, immune system dysfunction, impaired wound
healing, hormonal and metabolic imbalances, cognitive changes, and delirium. Through the use of
quiet times and nursing actions that encourage sleep, or, sleep hygiene bundles, nurses can assist in
improving sleep quality in the ICU. These bundles include noise and light reduction, scheduling
routine procedures outside of reserved sleep times, the use of earplugs and eye masks, and the
grouping of nursing care activities to minimize sleep interruptions. The aim of this proposal, therefore,
will be to implement a nurse driven, sleep hygiene protocol, in order to improve patient care by
promoting quality sleep in ICU patients. Barriers to implementation include staff resistance to the
concept, concerns regarding patient care during sleep times and difficulties in coordinating care with
other units. Studies used to gather information for this proposal were published between the years of
2011 and 2016 and were found in several databases: Academic Search Complete, Medline, and OVID
Journals.

Advantage And Dis-Advantage The Sources Of Secondary Data
Advantage and dis advantage the different data sources with examples from the current research:
One of the main critical areas to consider in research is the sources of data. Data sources can be either:
primary or secondary. Surbhi (2016 p.) defines primary data as the data originated for the first time by
the researcher through direct efforts and experience, specifically for the purpose of addressing the
research problem and defines secondary data as second hand information which is already collected
and recorded by any person other than the user for a purpose, not relating to the current research
problem . Surbhi (2016) considers primary data sources as quite expensive, and requires resources
including money and manpower. He also added that secondary data is the data that is readily available

Essay about Neglect Poem Analysis
Feelings of Neglect
Neglect by R.T Smith explains the feelings of neglect by using imagery, metaphor, and connotation.
This poem talks about a path of neglect that a man followed that led to the destruction of his red apple
tree. The narrator put too much of his time and attention on his other marvels to not put it into the
apple tree as well. Therefore his red apple tree, though thought to be inevitable, died and filled the
narrator with regret. A regret that appears to haunt the author, and fills him with sorrow. One of the
literacy devices used in Neglect is imagery. Towards the beginning of the poem, the author uses it in
the following quote, skew the sap s / passage, blacken leaves, dry the bark and heart (lines 5 6). ...

A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, Smoke is all, ... ,/ I ve been given to
remember (21 22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the smoke to death and
how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It connects with the
meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it will eventually
disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be left to remember it
by is the smoke that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found throughout the poem is
connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is, Is the scent of apple
boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember... (1 4). The word smoke in this poem is a
connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every quote the author has it in it
brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death was on the verge for his loved
apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the mood from what seemed to be the
author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was throughout the poem. It kept reminding
the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and the author s sadness. The second
connotation is later in the same sentence, ... of the Red Delicious I brought down... (1 4). The phrase
Red Delicious is said twice

Comparing The Lewinsky Scandal In The Human Stain By...
Near the beginning of the novel, The Human Stain by Philip Roth, the Lewinsky Scandal is introduced
and discussed in great detail. The narrator indicates his feelings towards the forty second president of
The United States, Bill Clinton, and his affair with a White House employee. This woman, named
Monica Lewinsky, was twenty two years old when the political scandal was made public, while
President Clinton was forty nine years old. The Human Stain is set in 1998, which is the same year
that the scandal became known to the public and President Bill Clinton was impeached. However, the
author also introduces the Lewinsky Scandal because an equally astonishing affair has been revealed
in a small, quiet New England town. The author essentially compares the two affairs in order to show

juvenile justice system has a history of poor academic education. In rehabilitation, the youth has a
right to receive education, such as getting caught up with their school work. Juveniles need a strong

Another solution for juvenile justice is detention centers. A judge can send a juvenile to a detention

can have an impact on the juvenile. Family treatment, such as interventions, with the youth can

The Unknown Citizen
By W. H. Auden
Several conflicts are dramatized in The Unknown Citizen, the most prominent being: conformity of
the middle class, government manipulation, and the loss of individualism to the standards of an
average citizen. The speaker of this poem is non traditional as the poem is, in fact, an inscription on a
marble monument erected by the State. The inscription is dedicated to a JS/07 M 378 presumably, The
Unknown Citizen, although this term only appears in the title. The Unknown Citizen is essentially an
elegy, a lament for the dead, written by either a government official or a strong believer in the
government. This becomes clear ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among his praises, for example: When there was peace, he was for peace: when there was war, he
went (24). In this, it becomes clear to the reader that you do not want to be an average citizen; you do
not want this to be your elegy. Some critics argue this, however, as Auden stating that there is nothing
disgraceful in being unknown. The poem is, above all, a satire of the way conformity hinders the
individual and leaves ridiculous and solely external distinctions between human beings. Auden
presents an allegory in The Unknown Citizen that begins even before the poem itself. The phrase
Unknown Citizen appears only once in the title. This term is an immediate allusion to and parody of
the Unknown Soldier, especially considering the details of who the poem is dedicated to and the fact
that it is found on a marble monument, much like those one might expect to see in Washington, D.C.
where the United States is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Unknown Solider is a
soldier who cannot be recognized after being found in battle. This sometimes controversial idea can be
interpreted to mean that many people die as unknowns because they lived uninfluential lives. Aside
from this large allegory, the poem uses only a few rhetorical devices. In line four, for example, ...in the
modern sense of an old fashioned word, he was a saint is quite an exaggeration because being one
against whom there was no official complaint is hardly saintly (2). Another

Death Penalty Dbq
Throughout history, many governments were implementing the death penalty unfairly because of the
unjust rulers, such as the Romans and the Ottomans. For example, they were executed people who
were demanding for their rights. Furthermore, the penalty ways were very ugly and inhumane. To be
more precise, Romans used the saw to cut up the accused into two halves and this execution style was
the favorite of the Roman emperor Caligula. Also, Ottomans were using the stake in the death penalty
to make the victim suffer as long as possible before he died. However, with the passage of time and
the progress of nations, these types of executions faded. Recently, international organizations such as

In some countries, executions are not only for criminal reasons, but also because of religious and
racial bias. Racial discrimination began in terms of using people with black skin as slaves and servants
for the rich. The racist practice against black Americans is an important example that explains how
blacks were persecuted. This policy began in the United States after the American Civil War and
emerged the racist legislation that supports the control of whites in the late nineteenth century. This
situation made blacks angry for the loss of their rights and tough punishments up to execution because
of racial grounds. Blacks began to resist this policy before World War II. Then, black American
leaders have appeared like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X and called for changing the racial
laws. Martin Luther King was one of the most famous advocates of the abolition of the death penalty
and he said that death penalty is against the best rule of new criminology. In her article, The Death
Penalty: What Would Dr. King Do? (2012) Moye commends that Dr. King utilized the ethic of
peacefulness to social change. At its embodiment was a profound appreciation for the human poise in
all individuals, including the oppressor and the culprit. Martin Luther King means that every human
has the right to live and no one can take this right except God. On the other hand, racism has directly
affected the civil rights of blacks and indirectly on their lives. For example, judgments for certain
crimes against blacks are strict compared with whites and it may reach to penalty. Not only blacks
around the world are suffering from racism, but also people in occupied countries such as Palestine.
This is another type of using the violence and executions for religious reasons. Since 1967, Jews
occupied Palestine and declared that the land is theirs then they

The moment the earth was made was when history was first conceived. The introduction tells us about
the making of planet Earth, which sets up the scene for the arrival of the Foragers. The history of man

He wanted to capture our attention so we could maybe realize the importance of our prehistory.
Christian s book gives you a better understanding of the order of how the world began to fall in place.
He allows us to know not only what and where, but also when, which is important in understanding
our history. Starting out as Homo Sapiens, human kind has come a long way to become what we are
today.
I believe David Christian backs up his claims exceptionally with information. He creates an
outstanding balance between fact and opinion. His opinions are always backed with reasonings and
fact, which leave us very convinced and satisfied. For example; The emergence of new forms of
radical anti Westernization is merely one reflection of growing resistance to Western values (Christian
88). He then backs up his claim in the next paragraph stating, In 1960 the wealthiest 20 percent of the
world s population earned about thirty times as much as the poorest twenty percent; in 1991 the
wealthiest twenty percent earned sixty one times as much (Christian 88). To prove his point, Christian
applies opinions, facts, statistics, and judgement to stand next to his claims. He is a writer in accuracy,
not just opinion.
David Christian has indeed written a phenomenal book that breaks down our history into satisfactory
proportions. It gives us a better grasp

The Uniform Resource Locator ( Url )
What are the URL and Cookies? The Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is the first information used to
specify or access a page on the worldwide web. It can identify any network resource which has a
connection to the Internet, such as text pages, images, music or video links. URL parameters are ones
which establish dynamic values for a webpage and can be easily accessed by its template and data
source. This makes pages incredibly dynamic, enabling a single page to power an endless number of
views (Symphony,2012). For example, the URL of Saint Joseph s University is https://www.sju.edu/.
As soon as the parameters in this URL are set, it filters the data source that draws the proper entry
from the concepts section. Like we can see the Blackboard URL of SJU is https://learn.sju.edu/. We
know that all concept views of this URL are powered by a single page. When we create a website, it is
important to keep the URL short and simple one which people will instantly know what content is
likely. If you ve done this, then you ve done a great job (Rand, 2008). People can easily remember it
and share it with their friends or colleagues by copying and pasting, emailing, or writing it down. Also
search engines will pick up on it quicker and put it much higher when visitors use the keywords to
search. Cookies are generally small text files which store our browsing information and they are

It provides the material needed for a basic understanding of the operation of internal combustion
engines. Students are assumed to have knowledge of fundamental thermodynamics, heat transfer, and
fluid mechanics as a prerequisite to get maximum benefit from the text. This book can also be used for
self study and/or as a reference book in the field of engines. Contents include the fundamentals of
most types of internal combustion engines, with a major emphasis on reciprocating engines. Both
spark ignition and compression ignition engines are covered, as are those operating on four stroke and
two stroke cycles, and ranging in size from small model airplane engines to the largest stationary
engines. Rocket engines and jet engines are not included. Because of the large number of engines that
are used in automobiles and other vehicles, a major emphasis is placed on these. The book is divided
into eleven chapters. Chapters 1 and 2 give an introduction, terminology, definitions, and basic
operating characteristics. This is followed in Chapter 3 with a detailed analysis of basic engine cycles.

Social Value And Identity
Social Value and Identity My discourse community is one of a kind, and special, because we are all so
close so we always know what s going on with each other. We also always have something to do every
day there is never a day where we would just sit around and be bored. We also are all athletes, so we
go to the gym and run basketball games and workout. My discourse community is important because
we keep each other on the right path and not let each other go down the wrong road. If one of us has a
problem we can help them handle it. It s also a place where we can tell each other things, and the
whole world won t know because we keep things between us. This is extremely important because you
always need someone to talk to you can t just keep everything to yourself. The type of people that
thrive in my discourse community are hustlers this is because we are always thinking of ways for us to
make money so you need to be able to come with ideas to contribute to our community. Self motivated
people thrive in our discourse community because you got to be willing to do things without being
asked to. Another type of person that thrives in this community is someone who doesn t get pushed
around, because at this time there is a lot of people mad with us for something that happened. So,
when we see them in public they always are trying to start a problem. When that happens, we can t
just let them push us around, because that would make us look weak so we got to be able to stand up

Education and Emerson Essay
1. In this essay, Ralph Waldo Emerson describes his view of an ideal education. What are its defining
characteristics?
I believe his defining characteristics on his view of an ideal education would have to include the
motherly guidance way of education, the teachers working on each student individually and the
teachers inspiring the students to think for themselves by giving them encouragement for their
thoughts.
2. In what ways is Emerson s advice appropriate to a child s first teacher his or her parents?
Some ways Emerson s advice is appropriate to a child s first teacher and his/her parents is the advice
of motherly guidance or a guiding hand. A hand that does not punish harshly, rather a hand that

6. Emerson refers to educating a boy and a man and uses masculine pronouns when referring to
students. As a reader, does this gender bias affect how receptive you are to Emerson s ideas?
It may increase receptivity for me because I am a teenage boy but I m not if it has much of an affect
when compared with girls reading this essay. I m not sure if it matters much.
7. Describe the adult that Emerson imagines would emerge from an education based on the principles
he supports.
Emerson probably would imagine an adult that would emerge from an education based on the
principles he supports would be hungry for the truth, would look towards the future and learning,
would not be afraid to share his ideas but what know for the most part right from wrong, and he would
have enthusiasm associated to learning. This adult be it a girl or boy will be a college of knowledge or
a wealth of knowledge with their own thoughts and opinions.
1. What does Emerson mean when he says, Nature loves analogies, but not repetitions (para.1)?
He means nature loves similarities with distinct differences not the same thing over and over again.
2. Why is the relationship between Genius and Drill, as Emerson explains it, paradoxical (para.3)?
It seems pretty self contradictory but it does shed some light on his idea. The child wants to learn

Essay on Tom in The Glass Menagerie
The Character of Tom in The Glass Menagerie
Tom Wingfield has a dual role in The Glass Menagerie. The first Tom is the narrator, who introduces
his second self, the character. In his fifth soliloquy, Tom the narrator indicates that time has detached
him from the drama, for time is the longest distance between two places (Williams 1568). In the
closing soliloquy Tom recounts how he lives and re lives the story in his memory, though he is
detached from the participants in the original affair. Like his father, a telephone man who fell in love
with long distances, (Williams 1523), Tom has fallen in love with the long distance that is time.
Tom is a sensitive, artistic man who is forced by circumstances into a ... Show more content on

Tennessee Williams gives us no indication that Tom s escape from his father, Amanda, Laura, and Jim
ever happens what is most compelling about the play is that Tom passes to the reader and the audience
the responsibility of making meaning out of his life.
Although signs of Pater s aesthetic, poetic passion, can be found in this play, the premise of the action
is phenomenological and the structure of the argument is positivistic. Because Tom continues to
experience the memory, again and again, his philosophic approach to understanding the grief and guilt
attached to his abandonment of his mother goes beyond Hegel s aim to that philosopher s idea of
Concept: Tom refuses to accept the situation as the corpse which has left the tendency behind
(Kaufmann 10). In the play, Tom is able to relate his experience to the audience he has discovered, by
a well combined use of reasoning and observation, the actual laws of phenomena that is to say, their
invariable relations of succession and likeness (Comté 2). He is able to express the logic and the laws
of his situation (his field, memory); however, at the end of the play Tom has not grasped the meaning
locked within his own memory.
In remembering himself in relationship to his father, his mother, his sister and his best friend, Tom the
narrator imbues the characters with the magic he claims in his first soliloquy to possess. Although The

Montessori vs. Traditional Education Essay
Education is very important especially in this day and age. What school one attends and how they
perceive school to be is a huge factor in one s life success. There has been research done in the past
few years proving that students who receive a Montessori education will prosper academically more
so than those who receive a traditional education (Ryniker and Shoho, 2001). Traditional schools
typically follow teacher based philosophies and the Montessori education is student centered. On
average, children enjoy student based philosophy classrooms. Therefore, they are much more in tuned
to what they are learning and that benefits their educational career. Having fun while learning is the
key to keeping children engaged.

Many people think of it as controlled chaos (Kramer, 1976). Montessori resources are divided into
four categories: practical life, sensorial, academic and cultural/artistic supplies (Scotty, 2009).
Alan Gartner and Dorothy Lipsky, City University of New York academic researchers conducted
research about success rates of public Montessori students (Schapiro, 2002). The research conducted
proves the children who attend Montessori public schools are better in certain subjects (Schapiro,
2002). Montessori is also very beneficial to children with dyslexia, because they use phonics to teach.
Attending a Montessori school is also an educational advantage for children because they have the
opportunity to start as early as the age of three (Schapiro, 2002).
According to the study conducted by Alan Gartner and Dorothy Lipsky, research was found that
students who attended a Montessori public school did significantly better in math and social studies.
Their overall GPA was not significantly higher than others but males received higher scores in science,
while females received higher scores in math, compared to other students who did not attend a
Montessori school (Schapiro, 2002). Montessori graduates also received higher scores overall on the
ACT mathematics test, but lower on the ACT reading test (Schapiro, 2002). Montessori students also
tend to fail fewer classes and take more honors and advanced

Impact Of Television On The Twentieth Century
Entertainment in the twentieth century is everyone sitting down in front of the television to watch their
favorite program. Whether it be a game show, cartoons, sports, or classics, everyone is together
laughing and making comments about the show. However, little thought is given to the time before
television or even its beginning. Television didn t just show up one day and magically change the way
we live; it had its ups and downs. However, once television made its way into the world, it became
one of the greatest technologies ever known to man. Although television began almost one hundred
years ago, people all over the world take for granted what it is today. Starting in 1927, the television
took its first steps into the world. Although its beginning was in the 1920 s, it took almost twenty years
for the world to really begin to accept television. However, once television was accepted, it began to
take off, evolving into what it is today. Most people soon forgot about listening to the radio, as
television became the new standard for life. By the 1950s, it was the only thing people could think
about. The 1940 s and 1950 s marked the era in which television really began to take hold in the
Americans everyday life. The Golden Age of television was a period of intense growth and expansion
of the television world.
The arrival of television into the home brought families and communities together, building
relationships in a new and different way. The

Inequality In Virginia Woolf
We are all created equal, but we are not treated as equals. We like to believe that everyone is equal, but
society doesn t treat everyone as what they were when created, equal. Virginia Woolf writes of society
s inequality through describing two meals from two different colleges. What mattered was neither
where the college was nor the name of it, but what mattered was that one was for men and the other
for women. Woolf was was served one meal from the colleges and there were some striking
differences. Through her writing, Woolf s use of vocabulary, tone, and emotional appeal help support
her attitude that women aren t treated equal compared to men. In reading both passages, there is a
clear difference in her vocabulary for describing the meals. Here, however, I shall take the liberty to
defy that convention and to tell you that the lunch on this occasion began with soles, sunk in deep
dish, over which the college cook had spread a counterpane of the whitest cream, save that it was
branded here and there with brown spots like the spots on the flanks of a doe (Woolf, Passage 1,
Sentence 4). Here was the soup. It was a plain gravy soup. There was nothing to stir the fancy in that
(Woolf, Passage 2, Sentence 6 8). Not only was there a change in vocabulary, but there was also a
change in the length of her sentences. Woolf s experience in the men s college was given a lot of detail
compared to her experience in the women s college. We can infer, from her vocabulary, that the

Criticical And Applied Philosophy Of Mary Wollstonecraft

authors. With her literary works appalling the world with her radical ideas in a fairly conservative time
period. She is renowned to have her feminist, but also rational, views on equal rights and education as
all she wanted was women to not be excluded from men. The topic of this essay is Wollstonecraft s
basic theoretical and applied philosophy in relation to her role in the movement of Romanticism, her
ideas on enlightenment, and her criticisms regarding her rationalism. This essay will also discuss if I
agree or disagree in part or in whole with Wollstonecraft. Wollstonecraft s basic theoretical and
applied philosophy is based on the ideas of God, reason, sentiments of humanity, the European
Enlightenment, romanticism, universal human rights, human progress in virtue and happiness, and
more. When it comes to her moral knowledge and understanding, Wollstonecraft is not to be criticized
for being too much of a rationalist for failing to give proper place to the emotions because she bases it
on reason and does give emotions a proper place. Wollstonecraft gives a key role to the natural human
sentiments and emotions of humanity when it comes to moral perception, understanding, and
knowledge and she has a place in the movement of Romanticism as she vindicated for women s rights
at the time and she provided a transition between the Enlightenment and Romanticism. In terms of

Examples Of Evil In Macbeth
The definition of evil is profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, especially when regarded as
a supernatural force. The readers see these qualities in the main character, Macbeth. This play, written
by William Shakespeare, starts off by portraying Macbeth as a hero who helped to win the battle for
Scotland; this is the first impression of Macbeth. Macbeth is not the only character that readers see
profound immorality in; evil is seen in the people around Macbeth as he makes his journey to the
throne.
First, evil is shown in Macbeth when he expresses that he is willing to do anything to obtain complete
power. After the war is won, Macbeth is told by the witches that he will be promoted to Thane of
Cawdor, and even has the opportunity to be king of Scotland. Macbeth is indeed promoted to Thane of
Cawdor and immediately gets anxious to be king, and right now. Macbeth is willing to kill the current
King Duncan to earn his throne. This evil deed is the first time we see wickedness in Macbeth.
Macbeth says, Stars hide your fires! Let not see my black and deep desires (I. iv. 52 53). Macbeth is
now admitting to his own evil thoughts. Macbeth s killing streak is not over and he will not ... Show

ambition, but without the illness should attend it (I. v. 2 7). Lady Macbeth is now as greedy as her

her less strength and confidence about their reign seems to hinder. Lady Macbeth ends up committing

Compare Eddie Carbone A Tragic Hero
I believe that the common man is as apt a subject for tragedy in its highest sense as kings were.
(Arthur Miller)
To what extent can Eddie Carbone (A View from the Bridge) and Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby) be
considered Tragic Heroes? What evidence is there in form, language and structure to support your
view?
In Greek tragedies, a tragic hero is traditionally characterised by several components, a notable one
being that the hero must possess a noble status. This was emphasised by Aristotle in Poetics when he
specified the tragic hero as one of those who stand out in great repute and prosperity. This quality has
been shared among other tragedy writers such as William Shakespeare. However the eighteenth
century saw the beginning of a Bourgeois ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We find out that during Act two, Eddie has revealed to the authorities that Beatrice s are cousins in the
country illegally and is now loathed by both cousins, Marco and Rodolpho. We can also see that
Catherine is no longer dependant on him and his own wife, Beatrice, remains faithful but at the same
time has lost any respect she had for him. Eddie is alone and pitiable; this point is intensified by the
stage direction where we learn that his companions, those who admired him, have gradually deserted
him: Lipari and wife exit ... Eddie calls after Louis and Mike. Eddie is even disgusted by himself as
earlier in the play when he was telling the tale of Vinny Bolanzo, the boy who betrayed his parents, he
condemningly questions How s he gonna show his face? Then comes the hero s demise. Carbone s
death leaves no doubt as to whether Miller has fulfilled this particular criterion of the tragic
hero.Although this is a tragic fall from grace there is still an argument that no ordinary man can have a
fall that can scale up to the fall of a monarch. It is arguable that the degradation of nobility, seen in
traditional tragedies, uncovers Carbone s decline as merely unimportant as he has so much less to lose
than King like Oedipus. Nonetheless, the most important reaction to the fall of a hero is the reaction of
the closest to the subject of defamation. So, although Oedipus may feel shame from the reactions of
the people of his Kingdom, it is the reaction of his family and friends that cause the audience to wince
on behalf of him. Gatsby s physical fall starts near the end of novel however, his spiritual fall arguably
begins before even meeting him. We hear about Gatsby s past and how he was a poor average man but
was honest and as the novel progresses you hear about his relationship with Daisy and how it ended
because

Catullus Before Death Do Us Analysis
Until Death Do Us Part After a long and perilous journey from Verona, Catullus had finally arrived at
Rome. As he stood by the entrance to that magnificent and intimidating city, his emotions overtook
him like a tempestuous storm. He had left his family and his filial duties in order to pursue a glorious
career in his vocation and avocation: poetry. For Catullus, the small town of Verona was a cultural
wasteland; it suffered from a paucity of playwrights, poets, and prose writers. Only in Rome, with its
diverse and cultured populace, could he truly fulfill his dreams of becoming one of Latin s greatest
poets. Thus, as he stood by the gates of Rome, he felt a mixture of feelings; excitement and
apprehension at the future lying beyond the entranceway s ivory veneer, and a sense of sadness and
melancholia at the past he was forever abandoning. Catullus had not yet taken two full strides in Rome
before being suddenly accosted by a pulchritudinous young lady. Introducing herself as Lesbia, the
voluptuous woman graciously invited Catullus into her house for a meal. Catullus did not hesitate for
a moment to accept Lesbia s invitation, indeed he had little choice; Lesbia s roseate cheeks and
comely features had already put Catullus under her amorous spell. Once inside Lesbia s capacious

  • 2. Civilization and Its Discontents, by Sigmeund Freud Essay... Civilization and Its Discontents is a book written by Sigmund Freud in 1929 (originally titled Das Unbehagen in der Kultur or The Uneasiness in Culture.) This is considered to be one of Freud s most important and widely read works. In this book, Freud explains his perspective by enumerating what he sees as fundamental tensions between civilization and the individual. He asserts that this tension stems from the individual s quest for freedom and non conformity and civilization s quest for uniformity and instinctual repression. Most of humankind s primitive instincts are clearly destructive to the health and well being of a human community (such as the desire to kill.) As a direct result, civilization creates laws designed to prohibit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freud theorizes that this oceanic feeling is a regression into an earlier state of consciousness before the ego had differentiated itself from the world of objects. Freud also theorizes that the religious oceanic feeling arises from the infant s helplessness and the longing for the father and imagine[s] that the oceanic feeling became connected with religion later on. In other words, the oceanic feeling is not a genuine religious experience, though people experience it that way. Throughout the rest of the book, Freud addresses the conflict between civilization and the individual. He starts with the fundamental paradox of civilization: we created civilization as a tool to protect ourselves from unhappiness; however it is our largest source of unhappiness. He also points out that contemporary technological advances have been a mixed blessing for human happiness. He also asks what the purpose of civilization is if it is not to satisfy the pleasure principal. He later concedes that civilization has to make compromises of happiness to fulfill its primary goal of bringing people into peaceful relationships with each other, by making them subject to a higher, communal authority. Freud included a cornucopia of various themes in this book. The first of these is the recurring theme of the primal father and his psychological heritage. This is one of Freud s most controversial cultural speculations. Freud proposes that human societies were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Similarities Between Bordeaux And Burgundy From The Same... Introduction This paper will zero in on compare and contrast two different regions which are Bordeaux and Burgundy in the same field: location, Climate and Terroir, and Grapes. Discuss the early history of the development of each region, including the specific examples. Then review the location, Climate and Terroir, and Grapes that rank the wines as among the best in the world. To conclude, look into the future of each region to analyze prospects for continued success. The history of Bordeaux Wine The history of the Bordeaux wine region dates back to the ancient Romans who were the first people to cultivate, plant vineyards and produce Bordeaux wine. The Romans took over the area in about 60 BC, and it was starting to earn fame for its wines as far back as in 1152 when Henry of England wed Eleanor of Aquitaine, who controlled the region. The Bordeaux appellation was perfect for cultivating grapes for wine. It offered the unique combination of the right soil for growing grapes used in the production of wine coupled with easy access to the Garonne river, which was needed to help ship the wines. Because after a series of attacks on the city in 1206, greater freedom was granted, so it lead to the 12th century became the start of Bordeaux s golden age. Over the centuries winemakers of the region have mastered both the art of blending and have learnt to work with Bordeaux s unique climate and terrain to produce a wide diversity of reds, whites and roses all ... • 4. A Look Into Nagy s Face Analysis A Look Into Nagi s Face Analysis How destructive is power? This is a question one might contemplate while reading A Look into Nagi s Face . Alaa El Aswani depicted power s effect on a very small environment represented in the classroom. A Look into Nagi s Face tells the story of a young boy who appears to be in the lower/middle class. This boy went to a strict French school where the teacher would hit whoever makes a mistake. When this happens other students would act as if they had seen nothing and the day would just continue normally. One day, Nagi, a new rich student with French origins came to the school and all the students became fascinated by him. He became their leader and the day the teacher hit him they all revolted. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But he pushes me violently away and then turns to the blackboard and writes my name, and the frère comes and he gives me ten strokes with the cane in front of the class. When we come to analyze the style of the writer in the story we find that he used a simple style, yet emphasized symbolism. The writer used informal diction in order to appeal to the people and not complicate the message he is sending. However, the writer depended largely on symbolism, which might be difficult for some readers to grasp. The whole story is based on symbolism; the school resembled a country, the teacher resembled the leader, the students resembled the people and finally Nagi resembled a political party or a potential leader. When looking at it from this point of view, it shows that at the beginning the people students were slaves to the teacher and even not supporting each other, but then came the potential leader Nagi who gave them a ray of hope, which made them follow him. However, the minute this leader got authority, he became a slave to power just like the previous leader and forgot about the people who helped him reach where he is. This story shows how power enslaves people and how destructive it could be to people s souls and conscience. Which is stated clearly in the last paragraph if the story: Here I am. Tears wet my face, my hand stings, and I turn to Nagi, who stands forever next to the frère. I keep looking at him. Maybe he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Influence Of Copyright On Popular Culture As of the early twenty first century, capitalism has been the dominant economic system in most parts of the world and has had a huge influence on the production of popular culture. Geared towards the generation of profit, a capitalistic economy ensures that individuals and corporations possess the power of creating and distributing wealth, as opposed to the public or the state. In order to maximize profit, as is the main goal for individuals in capitalism, copyright appears to have become one of many tools used by corporations most directly involved in the culture industry. Though copyright may have been originally developed with the thought that it would increase indigenous culture production, it is not feasible for artists to create work ... Recording industries to this day are continuously launching lawsuits file sharing software companies, one of their most notable lawsuits being against Napster, a pioneer of file sharing software. Though Napster did settle with the industry and started a subscription fee for all users, internet pirates are still managing to find new ways that allow file sharing can continue all over the Internet. Industries attempted to target people emotionally by creating ad campaigns describing file sharing as the equivalent to theft; however, these were only met with mixed success. This was perhaps due to the fact that file sharing also exposed the fact that the artists who create the music see very little profit. With the majority of profits going to the marketing and distribution practices of major record labels, society was left wondering where the real theft was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Clinical Maxim Preview BOOK REVIEW Review of The Twenty four Hour Mind: The Role of Sleep and Dreaming in Our Emotional Lives by Rosalind Cartwright 224 pages Oxford University Press, USA; * edition (June 24, 2010) Patrick McNamara, Ph.D. T his is a book of many virtues. It gives us an insider look at the birth of the sleep medicine specialty. It provides, in clear entertaining, first person prose a first rate primer on the latest { indings in sleep science. It speaks with the voice of a mature, humane, sane, and brilliant clinician. Most impressively it lays out in convincing detail the argument for the theory of the 24 mind. That theory, as I understand it, suggests that selected regions of the mind/brain are active and functional 24 hours a day. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After pushing the body into the pool Falater apparently went back into the house. Cartwright thinks Ealater went back into the house to go back to bed/sleep, just as most other sleepwalkers do unless they are awakened by a loud sound. The police called to the scene by the neighbor found Falater coming down the stairs from the bedroom and the body floating in the pool. One pities this family, especially the teenage children who were apparently asleep when all this happened but awoke to the father being led away in handcuffs and their mother brutally murdered. Falater was convicted of murder despite the defense s claim that the defendant has been sleepwalking. In the years that he has been in jail Falater sent Cartwright many of his dreams which she reproduces (with his permission) in an appendix of the book. The neuro psychologic conditions under which this sort of violent tragedy can occur are laid out and extensively discussed by Cartwright. All apply to the Falater case. There is usually a Stressor in the patient s life that disrupts sleep. There is usually a history of sleepwalking and a family vulnerability to the disorder. The parasomnia usually occurs in the first part of the night in a NREM stage. After the event the patient is utterly amnestic for the episode and attempts no cover up of the deed. There is grief, remorse and efforts to cooperate in the investigation. Cartwright sees it as an obligation of the scientist that when he or she has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The United States Involvement in the Korean War Communism has been a global problem for decades, and has caused a wide array of issues. The Soviet Union and China were the main Communist threats post World War II. The Soviets were the biggest threat, without their influence, China would not have become a Communist nation. North Korea was supported by the Soviet Union after the Japanese lost World War II. They adopted a Communist government called the Democratic People s Republic of Korea and was ruled under Kim Il sung. North Korea invaded South Korea, an authoritarian country, which drew involvement from the United States, and in general, the United Nations. US involvement in Korea is debatebly because of the rising threat of global Communism and the attempt of North Korea taking South Korea. North and South Korea hosted a raging battle that involved a lot more than just the two countries. North Korea before 1950 was occupied by Japanese imperialists. After the Japanese lost World War II, The Soviet Union occupied the region north of the 38th parallel. They underwent a Communist government called the Democratic People s Republic of Korea (North Korea Wikipedia.org 5). In June of 1950, the poorly influenced North Korea invaded the 38th parallel into the south, starting the Korean War. By July, the United States had become involved on the south s behalf. Although it was to prevent one country from imperializing another, the war was more generally seen by the United States as a war of international Communism. One of their ... There are big differences between the two of them, but there is, without any doubt, one that has a lot more negative effects on the human body and the human brain than the other. Due to research we can compare them and conclude which one is worse. It is grown all over the world and supports a billion dollar industry. Tobacco is dried and processed, then either placed into cigarettes and processed, or manufactured for chewing tobacco. The psychoactive ingredient is nicotine, a stimulant, but more than 4,000 other chemicals (2,000 of which are known to be poisonous) are present in cigarettes (Health). Tobacco is a nervous system stimulant that triggers complex biochemical and neurotransmitter disruptions. It elevates heart rate and blood pressure, constricts blood vessels, irritates lung tissue, and diminishes your ability to taste and smell (Health). Many people think smoking marijuana is just as harmful as smoking tobacco, but this is not true. Those who hold that marijuana is equivalent to tobacco are misinformed. Due to the efforts of various federal agencies to discourage the use of marijuana in the 1970 s the government conducted several biased studies designed to return results that would equate marijuana smoking with tobacco smoking, or ... • 9. Nurse Driven, Sleep Hygiene Protocol, A Source Of Anxiety... The inability to sleep is a source of anxiety and stress for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU); this inability can lead to cardiorespiratory disturbances, immune system dysfunction, impaired wound healing, hormonal and metabolic imbalances, cognitive changes, and delirium. Through the use of quiet times and nursing actions that encourage sleep, or, sleep hygiene bundles, nurses can assist in improving sleep quality in the ICU. These bundles include noise and light reduction, scheduling routine procedures outside of reserved sleep times, the use of earplugs and eye masks, and the grouping of nursing care activities to minimize sleep interruptions. The aim of this proposal, therefore, will be to implement a nurse driven, sleep hygiene protocol, in order to improve patient care by promoting quality sleep in ICU patients. Barriers to implementation include staff resistance to the concept, concerns regarding patient care during sleep times and difficulties in coordinating care with other units. Studies used to gather information for this proposal were published between the years of 2011 and 2016 and were found in several databases: Academic Search Complete, Medline, and OVID Journals. Keywords: ICU, intensive care unit, critical care, quiet time, noise, and nursing. Quiet Time in the ICU One of the top three sources of anxiety and stress for patients during an intensive care unit (ICU) stay is the inability to sleep (Kamdar, Needham, Collop, 2012). There is ... Surbhi (2016) considers primary data sources as quite expensive, and requires resources including money and manpower. • 11. Essay about Neglect Poem Analysis Feelings of Neglect Neglect by R.T Smith explains the feelings of neglect by using imagery, metaphor, and connotation. This poem talks about a path of neglect that a man followed that led to the destruction of his red apple tree. The narrator put too much of his time and attention on his other marvels to not put it into the apple tree as well. Therefore his red apple tree, though thought to be inevitable, died and filled the narrator with regret. A regret that appears to haunt the author, and fills him with sorrow. One of the literacy devices used in Neglect is imagery. Towards the beginning of the poem, the author uses it in the following quote, skew the sap s / passage, blacken leaves, dry the bark and heart (lines 5 6). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A second example of a metaphor is found when the author writes, Smoke is all, ... ,/ I ve been given to remember (21 22). This is an example of a metaphor because it is comparing the smoke to death and how he was too blinded by the other blessings he had received, and now regrets it. It connects with the meaning of the poem because it shows how if something is neglected too much, it will eventually disappear and come back to haunt the neglecter, and the only memories that will be left to remember it by is the smoke that it leaves behind. The third literacy device that was found throughout the poem is connotation, which the author uses frequently in the poem. The first quote is, Is the scent of apple boughs smoking in the woodstove what I will remember... (1 4). The word smoke in this poem is a connotation because it carries a meaning of sadness and death. In every quote the author has it in it brings a feeling of sadness and how he was too blind to see that death was on the verge for his loved apple tree. It connects with the poem with its ability to change the mood from what seemed to be the author becoming happier, back to the depressing tone that was throughout the poem. It kept reminding the reader of the fateful death that the tree went through and the author s sadness. The second connotation is later in the same sentence, ... of the Red Delicious I brought down... The narrator indicates his feelings towards the forty second president of The United States, Bill Clinton, and his affair with a White House employee. This woman, named Monica Lewinsky, was twenty two years old when the political scandal was made public, while President Clinton was forty nine years old. The Human Stain is set in 1998, which is the same year that the scandal became known to the public and President Bill Clinton was impeached. However, the author also introduces the Lewinsky Scandal because an equally astonishing affair has been revealed in a small, quiet New England town. Auden Several conflicts are dramatized in The Unknown Citizen, the most prominent being: conformity of the middle class, government manipulation, and the loss of individualism to the standards of an average citizen. The speaker of this poem is non traditional as the poem is, in fact, an inscription on a marble monument erected by the State. The inscription is dedicated to a JS/07 M 378 presumably, The Unknown Citizen, although this term only appears in the title. In this, it becomes clear to the reader that you do not want to be an average citizen; you do not want this to be your elegy. Some critics argue this, however, as Auden stating that there is nothing disgraceful in being unknown. The poem is, above all, a satire of the way conformity hinders the individual and leaves ridiculous and solely external distinctions between human beings. Auden presents an allegory in The Unknown Citizen that begins even before the poem itself. The phrase Unknown Citizen appears only once in the title. This term is an immediate allusion to and parody of the Unknown Soldier, especially considering the details of who the poem is dedicated to and the fact that it is found on a marble monument, much like those one might expect to see in Washington, D.C. where the United States is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The Unknown Solider is a soldier who cannot be recognized after being found in battle. This sometimes controversial idea can be interpreted to mean that many people die as unknowns because they lived uninfluential lives. Aside from this large allegory, the poem uses only a few rhetorical devices. In some countries, executions are not only for criminal reasons, but also because of religious and racial bias. Racial discrimination began in terms of using people with black skin as slaves and servants for the rich. The racist practice against black Americans is an important example that explains how blacks were persecuted. This policy began in the United States after the American Civil War and emerged the racist legislation that supports the control of whites in the late nineteenth century. This situation made blacks angry for the loss of their rights and tough punishments up to execution because of racial grounds. Blacks began to resist this policy before World War II. Then, black American leaders have appeared like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X and called for changing the racial laws. Martin Luther King was one of the most famous advocates of the abolition of the death penalty and he said that death penalty is against the best rule of new criminology. In her article, The Death Penalty: What Would Dr. King Do? (2012) Moye commends that Dr. King utilized the ethic of peacefulness to social change. At its embodiment was a profound appreciation for the human poise in all individuals, including the oppressor and the culprit. Martin Luther King means that every human has the right to live and no one can take this right except God. On the other hand, racism has directly affected the civil rights of blacks and indirectly on their lives. For example, judgments for certain crimes against blacks are strict compared with whites and it may reach to penalty. It can identify any network resource which has a connection to the Internet, such as text pages, images, music or video links. URL parameters are ones which establish dynamic values for a webpage and can be easily accessed by its template and data source. This makes pages incredibly dynamic, enabling a single page to power an endless number of views (Symphony,2012). For example, the URL of Saint Joseph s University is https://www.sju.edu/. As soon as the parameters in this URL are set, it filters the data source that draws the proper entry from the concepts section. Like we can see the Blackboard URL of SJU is https://learn.sju.edu/. What mattered was neither where the college was nor the name of it, but what mattered was that one was for men and the other for women. Woolf was was served one meal from the colleges and there were some striking differences. Through her writing, Woolf s use of vocabulary, tone, and emotional appeal help support her attitude that women aren t treated equal compared to men. Here was the soup. It was a plain gravy soup. There was nothing to stir the fancy in that (Woolf, Passage 2, Sentence 6 8). When it comes to her moral knowledge and understanding, Wollstonecraft is not to be criticized for being too much of a rationalist for failing to give proper place to the emotions because she bases it on reason and does give emotions a proper place. Wollstonecraft gives a key role to the natural human sentiments and emotions of humanity when it comes to moral perception, understanding, and knowledge and she has a place in the movement of Romanticism as she vindicated for women s rights at the time and she provided a transition between the Enlightenment and Romanticism. • 30. Examples Of Evil In Macbeth The definition of evil is profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, especially when regarded as a supernatural force. The readers see these qualities in the main character, Macbeth. This play, written by William Shakespeare, starts off by portraying Macbeth as a hero who helped to win the battle for Scotland; this is the first impression of Macbeth. Macbeth is not the only character that readers see profound immorality in; evil is seen in the people around Macbeth as he makes his journey to the throne. First, evil is shown in Macbeth when he expresses that he is willing to do anything to obtain complete power. After the war is won, Macbeth is told by the witches that he will be promoted to Thane of Cawdor, and even has the opportunity to be king of Scotland. Macbeth is indeed promoted to Thane of Cawdor and immediately gets anxious to be king, and right now. Macbeth is willing to kill the current King Duncan to earn his throne. This evil deed is the first time we see wickedness in Macbeth. Macbeth says, Stars hide your fires! Let not see my black and deep desires (I. iv. 52 53). Macbeth is now admitting to his own evil thoughts. Macbeth s killing streak is not over and he will not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 31. Compare Eddie Carbone A Tragic Hero I believe that the common man is as apt a subject for tragedy in its highest sense as kings were. (Arthur Miller) To what extent can Eddie Carbone (A View from the Bridge) and Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby) be considered Tragic Heroes? What evidence is there in form, language and structure to support your view? In Greek tragedies, a tragic hero is traditionally characterised by several components, a notable one being that the hero must possess a noble status. This was emphasised by Aristotle in Poetics when he specified the tragic hero as one of those who stand out in great repute and prosperity. This quality has been shared among other tragedy writers such as William Shakespeare. However the eighteenth century saw the beginning of a Bourgeois ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We find out that during Act two, Eddie has revealed to the authorities that Beatrice s are cousins in the country illegally and is now loathed by both cousins, Marco and Rodolpho. We can also see that Catherine is no longer dependant on him and his own wife, Beatrice, remains faithful but at the same time has lost any respect she had for him. Eddie is alone and pitiable; this point is intensified by the stage direction where we learn that his companions, those who admired him, have gradually deserted him: Lipari and wife exit ... Eddie calls after Louis and Mike. Eddie is even disgusted by himself as earlier in the play when he was telling the tale of Vinny Bolanzo, the boy who betrayed his parents, he condemningly questions How s he gonna show his face? Then comes the hero s demise. Carbone s death leaves no doubt as to whether Miller has fulfilled this particular criterion of the tragic hero.Although this is a tragic fall from grace there is still an argument that no ordinary man can have a fall that can scale up to the fall of a monarch. It is arguable that the degradation of nobility, seen in traditional tragedies, uncovers Carbone s decline as merely unimportant as he has so much less to lose than King like Oedipus. Nonetheless, the most important reaction to the fall of a hero is the reaction of the closest to the subject of defamation. So, although Oedipus may feel shame from the reactions of the people of his Kingdom, it is the reaction of his family and friends that cause the audience to wince on behalf of him. Gatsby s physical fall starts near the end of novel however, his spiritual fall arguably begins before even meeting him. We hear about Gatsby s past and how he was a poor average man but was honest and as the novel progresses you hear about his relationship with Daisy and how it ended because ... • 35. Catullus Before Death Do Us Analysis Until Death Do Us Part After a long and perilous journey from Verona, Catullus had finally arrived at Rome. As he stood by the entrance to that magnificent and intimidating city, his emotions overtook him like a tempestuous storm. He had left his family and his filial duties in order to pursue a glorious career in his vocation and avocation: poetry. For Catullus, the small town of Verona was a cultural wasteland; it suffered from a paucity of playwrights, poets, and prose writers. Only in Rome, with its diverse and cultured populace, could he truly fulfill his dreams of becoming one of Latin s greatest poets. Thus, as he stood by the gates of Rome, he felt a mixture of feelings; excitement and apprehension at the future lying beyond the entranceway s ivory veneer, and a sense of sadness and melancholia at the past he was forever abandoning. Catullus had not yet taken two full strides in Rome before being suddenly accosted by a pulchritudinous young lady. Introducing herself as Lesbia, the voluptuous woman graciously invited Catullus into her house for a meal.
