The Brain!!Put this through your head!
THREE LAYERS!Layer ONE: The Brain Stem
The Brain Stem7 main parts:Medulla
Pons
Reticular Formation
Thalamus
Pituitary Gland
Midbrain
CerebellumCerebellum
The Brain StemCerebellumThe medulla is in charge of regulating basic body functions such as breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate.
The Brain StemThe pons is in charge of brain activity during sleep, such as dreaming.Cerebellum
The Brain StemThe reticular formation is responsible for keeping the mind and body awake and aware. The nerve wires come up from the spinal cord through the reticular formation into the thalamus.Cerebellum
The Brain StemThe thalamus is not only in the center of the brain, but it is also the main relay station of the brain. All the senses go through the thalamus, and it helps process everything going on.Cerebellum
The Brain StemControlled by the hypothalamus. The only endocrine system structure in your body that is in the brain. The pituitary gland sends out hormones.Cerebellum
The Brain StemCerebellumThe cerebellum is in charge of coordinated movements.
The Brain StemThe midbrain helps process the auditory and visual information.Cerebellum
THREE LAYERS!Layer TWO: The Limbic System
The Limbic System3 main parts:Hippocampus
Amygdala
HypothalamusThe Limbic SystemThe hippocampus is in charge of creating long term memories.
The Limbic SystemThe amygdala is in charge of emotion. The amygdala may also be associated with memory for when we remember something that is very emotional to us.
The Limbic SystemThe hypothalamus is important and in charge of keeping our body temperature and fluid levels balanced. When the hypothalamus detects an imbalance, it orders the body to tell our body what we need.
