What Is The Similarities Between Memi And Sabu And The...
Compares and Contrast of the Statue of Memi and Sabu, with the Statue of Gudea
For this work, I am going to put side by side the two works and bring out their differences along their
resemblance. The two works have in common some peculiar resemblance like the era in which they
were produced, though being from different cultures and different time and space. Furthermore,
though the material and finish are almost alike, there is a sharp contrast in their context and content. 1

The statue of Memi and Sabu is a wonderful art work that portrays a couple in an intimate posture
which show how Egyptian were romantic. The statues are believed to be around 2575 2465 b.c.

This statue is thus dedicated to follow their master in the other world and serve them faithfully. In
contrast, King Gudea was a mighty personage and according to believes prevailing in that times, like
most monarchs and kings, was believed to be immortal and it is seen in the inscription on the statue
clothes Gudea, the man who built the temple; may his life be long (metmuseum.org, n.d.)
The social position is clear in the stature, clothes and space of the statues. The Gudea statue feet does
not touch the ground, and his position for me indicate people in his front venerating him. The
multitude of statues and temples he has constructed is indicative of the fact that Gudea wanted his
image at all sight in his Kingdom. On the other side, I see more simplicity in the posture of Memi and
Sabu and though it is a funeral statue. The statue is more emotional and arouse sympathy and love to
it.

Prosecution Intimidation And Witness Intimidation
There are many reasons victims do no want to testify in court. Legal cynicism and witness
intimidation are a couple of the top reasons. One reason I feel is overlooked is witness intimidation.
Witness Intimidation is when threats are made by defendants to discourage victims or witnesses of a
crime from reporting or testifying. (Connick and Davis 439) If a victim feels threatened, they often
become hesitant to testify sometimes even to report the crime. With the right incentives, victims and
witnesses would be more likely to participate in the process of testifying against a defendant.
Witness intimidation happens in many forms, such as: looks, threats of violence, physical violence,
property damage, etc. If you commit a crime, you will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These programs are still new in the eyes of the justice system. Victims and witnesses receiving help
were more likely to appear when summoned than those who had not been aided. (Neubauer and
Fradella 236) Victims who are testifying against a defendant are authorized to receive protection,
whether inside or outside of court.
There are services provided to protect the victims or witnesses. When waiting in the courtroom, they
are entitled to a special waiting room, away and out of sight from the defendant and the defendant s
friends and family. By separating the defendant from the victims and witnesses, it lessens the change
of intimidation within the courtroom. Even victims and witnesses that are incarcerated have the option
and availability to be separated from others to keep them safe. By separating from certain groups,
gangs are not able to finish hits on a victim or witness.
Another way to keep a victim or witness in testifying is ensuring that everyone coming in and out of
the courthouse will be on video surveillance. By taping everyone coming into the courthouse,
hopefully it would discourage any intimidation within the courthouse. Also by having surveillance, it
would give the victims and witnesses a sense of security, knowing that anybody coming near them in
the courthouse is on camera.
One program to motivate victims to participate in testifying helps with compensating the victims or
witnesses. During the process of the trial and even before when

Personal Lessons Learned
From an early age I was taught the importance of personal integrity and the importance of being
adaptable and prepared for any stressful situation that life may throw at you. During my time as a boy
scout I was constantly taught to be prepared and to also to always be at the service of others. At the
end of our camping trips we would be told repeatedly to leave this place, better than when you found
it and this lesson has translated into my own life. I want to make the world a better (safer) place than
when I found it. As I grew up, these lessons continued to play a key role in the decisions I made and
have made me into the man that I ve become today.
While in middle school and into high school I had the opportunity to be exposed to many cultures that
were different than my own. I volunteered weekly through my church in a predominately Hispanic
community that was located in the Port of Houston. The neighborhood was extremely impoverished
and many of the students were involved in gangs, or had one or more parents that were incarcerated.
The more I worked with these young men and women, the more I learned about myself and that the
lesson I learned years prior of making the world better than when you found it rang true. This
community was not like the neighborhood that I lived in, and I was definitely ... Show more content

Describe Different Types Of Meetings
.
1.6 Most meetings are used to discuss, to inform, to decide, to organise or to plan. They can be used to
coordinate activities, clarify objectives, and evaluate information and they are helpful in solving
problems and generating new ideas. Meetings are costly so as the Chairperson it s your responsibility
to ensure that time is not wasted at such sessions through good planning.
Meetings can be a very powerful communication tool and can improve productivity within any
organization be it Rotaract, LEO, Scouts, etc. As with tools, there are certain procedures and
techniques you can use to maximise its effectiveness and productivity.
Productive meetings don t just happen, a lot of behind the scenes work must be carried out.

The New Negro, By Alain Locke
Throughout Alain Locke s works Values and Imperatives, Pluralism and Intellectual Democracy,
Cultural Relativism and Ideological Peace, The New Negro, and Harlem, I found there to be a number
of reoccurring themes, such as absolutes, imperatives, values, and relativism and their place in
pluralism. I am going to be focusing on all the aforementioned themes and showing how they are all
intertwined into the principles of pluralism. What is an absolute? In Values and Imperatives, Locke
defines them briefly as imperatives of action and as norms of preference and choice. With the use of
that definition comes the question of what an imperative is. In the preface of this piece, the editor
writes that when Locke is referring to imperatives, he means compelling rules, guidelines, and actions.
Our imperatives function as authoritative guidelines. A value, according to Locke, is an emotionally
mediated form of experience, so judgments of value are essentially emotional judgments. For me, this
is somewhat reminiscent of Emerson and his view on experience and values; a man does not
consciously do something without having a belief or value behind it. Locke also goes on to later say in
the same work that values are rooted in attitudes, not in reality, and pertain to ourselves, not to the
world. The editor also writes that when Locke is referring to values, he generally means feelings,
attitudes, beliefs, preferences, attenuations for moral principles, aesthetic

Abstract
Social media is being used by users across various age groupsin the country in a variety of ways. They
share many things by using social media as a medium of communication. The users are accessing
social media in their mobile phones most of the time and also through many other devices and means.
Despite the presence of National and other mass media, users are attracted to social media as they
provide more opportunities for presenting their viewpoints on religion, culture, economy, politics,
entertainment, policies, education aspects of the country etc. This study will focus on how opinions
are created in the cyber space especially in social media. User Generated Content(UGC) is a really
important aspect in the creation of opinions among users in social media and also a vital part in
creating public sphere. The differentiation of modern society into various spheres, such as the capitalist
economy, the state, civil society, and the sphere of the family and intimacy, has resulted in a division
between what is considered the private sphere and the public sphere. The

Marine Engineer Was Robert Fulton
Ships have been around for thousands of years, we used them to conquer other countries, to transport
food and people, and for our enjoyment. Every ship that has been made, was unique. The Vikings
made ships in different sizes, shapes, and made out of different types of wood. Ships have evolved
from a huge row boat, to a steam boat, to a huge engine and with lots of little changes in between. We
always need someone to make sure that those ships are running perfect and that it will make it home
safe. Those people that work in the ships are called Marine Engineers they are the ones that make sure
the ships will make it home. One very important marine engineer was Robert Fulton he was the person
who created the steam boat and first to try and put an engine on a boat. Even though we have been
making bigger and better ships we still look back at the older ships and how the Marine Engineering
began and how our ships have changed.
Boats were made before 4000 BC but most of these boats were rafts, logs of bamboo, bundles of
reeds, air filled animal skins tied together to float down the river or any little body of water. The first
boat was a hallowed out log that was like a canoe. That was estimated to be made around 8000 BC.
The sail boat was made around 4000 BC it was made out little logs tied together with intestine and
leaves. They made a sail out of reeds, this boat was called the Egyptian reed boats. By 2500 BC the
Egyptians started to make ships bigger and out of wood that

Christopher Mccandles s Applied Human Development In...
While reading Into the Wild several aspects of Christopher McCandles development and lived
experiences can be applied to the topics that were examined in Applied Child Development. In
particular, the themes of scarcity, parental involvement, distancing, and the culture of affluence are
extremely salient in discussing Christopher McCandles experiences.
Scarcity
Feinberg introduces scarcity as the concept of having an inadequate supply of a certain need that is
crucial to the development of the individual (Feingberg, 2015). For example, an individual can
experience scarcity in money, space, time, love or support, and housing which all have an effect over
time on their interactions with systems around them (APSY 418, 7/5.2017). Christopher experiences
scarcity both through his own choices and as a result of the relationship that he had with those around
him. For example, in his relationship with his father Christopher experiences a scarcity of affection
and nurturing that would have softened the impact of his father parenting style and demand for
perfection. This lack of emotional support, despite the presence of basic needs, cause Christopher to
develop a lack of attachment to his father and made it easier for him to break off from his family later
in his life. On the other hand, Christopher chooses to experience a scarcity of money, shelter, and other
basic necessities when he leaves civilization and tries to survive in the wilderness. the lack of human
interaction is

The Role Of Abuse In Alice Walker s The Color Purple
All of the abuse that Celie experiences from the men in her life rather than aggravating her and
prompting her to take action against her oppressors instead breed complacency in which she believed
that her situation although not ideal, was normal and therefore needed to remain the same. She even
goes so far as to tell Harpo after he begins complaining about how rebellus his wife Sophia is to beat
her (Walker, 37). This suggestion shows that Celie, in experiencing masculinist domination, has to in
some degree normalized it (Bealer, 2012). This means that she sees the domination of Mister, as just
another part of life, rather than a problem. The same can be said for the men in the novel The Color

Title: Determination of the KM, VMax for an enzymatic reaction: The reaction of Trypsin with
Benzoyl Arginine P Nitroanalide (BAPNA)
Introduction: (Definitions)
KM: The substrate concentration at 1/2 the maximum velocity. Relates to the affinity the substrate has
for the enzyme
VMAX: The maximum velocity or rate at which the enzyme catalyzed a reaction. Amount of substrate
converted to product per unit of time when the enzyme is saturated with substrate
Trypsin: A serine protease that is present in pancreatic juice that are secreted into small intestine to
break down food. Secreted as Trypsinogen. Activated by an enteropeptidase, which cleaves a portion
of Trypsinogen to leave the activated form of Trypsin. Trypsin breaks down food proteins ... Show

Ideally for a Lineweaver Berk plot a positive linear slope is obtained and the Vmax and KM values are
obtained by putiing them equal to 1/y intercept and 1/x intercept respectively. However a positive
linear slope was not obtained, but a negative mostly linear slope, with one value skewing the data. In
order to calculate the Km and Vmax correctly a positive linear slope is needed, however as this is a
negative slope, it essentially flips the positive slope 90° Anti clockwise, resulting in the x and y
intercept being in different positions. A negative Km value of 0.0045 was obtained and the vmax was
found to 3.082. These values are incorrect for the experiment due to the negative slope. A negative
slope may have been obtained due to inaccurate make up of the original solution, possibly an error in
calculation but this shows that extreme attention to detail is required throughout all aspect of
experiments. A positive result for a Lineweaver Burk plot has been included for

They include Wind, Solar, Hydro, Biomass, Geothermal, and Hydrogen (United, 2012). However, I ll
only be presenting the 3 most common types. A. I ll begin with Wind, which utilizes a Wind Turbine
or more commonly known as windmill. 1. Modern wind turbines are used to generate electricity. 2.
Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy of moving wind. 3. A wind turbine works like a fan, but in
reverse. 4. Also a collection of wind turbines is called a wind farm. B. Next up we have the power of
the Sun, Solar energy. It is certainly the oldest type of alternative energy used. 5. Photovoltaic (PV) is
the most common solar collector used today; an example is the panels people put on rooftops or
vending machines. 6. It produces electricity from the energy of the sun. 7. Energy of the absorbed
light is transferred to electrons of the PV cell. C. Rivers are the source of another popular technology.
Hydroelectric Turbines leverage this hydro energy. 8. Hydroelectric Turbines are powered by the
kinetic energy of the flowing water. 9. Water flows through a turbine and generators convert the
energy into electricity. 10. It s like a water pump but in reverse order, much like the wind turbine.

Psychology And The Theory Of Psychology
Psychology in a continuously growing tree with its roots stemming from the study of reality and
knowledge known as philosophy first studied by ancient Greece (Wiley 8). It can be defined as the
study of behaviours and mental processes in which behaviours are observable activities, and mental
processes include all internal thoughts and emotions. Psychologists often have one (or more) of four
goals in mind when they conduct research: describing, explaining, predicting, or controlling (5 6).
Many great thinkers profoundly influenced psychology including Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow,
Sigmund Freud and many others (Vickers).Various people throughout history contributed to different
approaches and belief systems. A few examples of these systems are: structuralism focusing on mental
processes, psychoanalysis focusing on the unconscious mind, behaviourism focusing on the
unconscious mind (Vickers). Although there are many belief systems, modern psychologists share
similar procedures and values known as the empirical method (Vickers). Psychology is theory driven,
seeks evidence, multi leveled, and contextual, unlike philosophy which relies heavily on unproven
beliefs, psychology aims to discover scientific information. Psychologists approach ideas using the
scientific method based on Sir Francis Bacon s emphasis on minimizing bias (Wiley 29). They create
hypotheses which according to Karl Popper must establish observations that could be refutable (30).

Poem The Charge of the Light Brigade written by Alfred Tennyson tells us about battle of Balaclava in

We can tell this after repetition Honour the charge they made, Honour the Light Brigade . The author

line While horse and hero fell the author names the soldier hero. In addition, the author tells us similar
idea through hyperbole: All the world wondered . This hyperbola exaggerates the world`s reaction.
And emphasises idea that all people know and care about soldiers who fought and died in war.
However, Wilfred Owen tells us that war is horrible. The author described how person was dying in
mustard gas how that soldier was drowning in it. Also Wilfred Owen used simile: Obscene as cancer,
bitter as the cud . This simile shows that mustard gas affects body of the soldier like cancer. And two

Education of the Black Male in America Essay
Today s education is often viewed as failing in its goal of educating students, especially those students
characterized as minorities, including African American, Hispanic, and Appalachian students (Quiroz,
1999). Among the minority groups mentioned, African American males are affected most adversely.
Research has shown that when Black male students are compared to other students by gender and race
they consistently rank lowest in academic achievement (Ogbu, 2003), have the worst attendance
record (Voelkle, 1999), are suspended and expelled the most often (Raffaele Mendez, 2003; Staples,
1982), are most likely to drop out of school, and most often fail to graduate from high school or to
earn a GED (Pinkney, 2000; Roderick, 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no single overriding factor to explain this lack of success, but most scholars and researchers
point out that beginning in the colonial era and continuing through most of our nation s history, the
experiences of Black males in White society have been so negative and psychologically damaging
(Pinkney, 2000; Staples, 1982) that they have given birth to and nurtured a deep seated and tenacious
belief in their own, and the entire Black community s, inferiority. At the beginning of this history,
Black male slaves were looked upon by White society as the most undesirable and least trust worthy
of people, and they were treated accordingly. Black male slaves were closely associated with and
compared to animals, and were said to have a deceptive and violent nature and to be uncontrollable
and in need of the whip (Kunjufu, 1986). Given this formative experience in slavery, the fact that
Black males have continued to be disadvantaged from birth to death throughout our nation s short
history hardly seems to need explanation.
A Broader Problem that plagues Black males are not totally the responsibility of the public schools,
but are a responsibility of society as a whole (Delpit, 1995). We can say, however, that the public
schools do play a major role in addressing the problems of Black male students. The educational
experiences and the support services afforded Black male students could play an

The Importance Of Organising A Local Live Music Event
Four piece indie rock band The Reveurs reached out to promoters to assemble a live music event
celebrating the release of new single, Control. The process of organising a local live music event
involved various procedures, personnel, strategies and considerations. This document clarifies the
preparation of the launch, supported by industry resources and the development of accordance. The
project was conceived seven weeks prior to the event by headlining band, The Reveurs. Band
members had a preconceived idea of what they expected from the event. Due to the nature of the
event, it was most appropriate to book a promoter who would manage all elements rather than paying
a sizable fee to an event management company. The promoter was expected to examine and determine
all of the clients requirements through briefing. Asking too few questions or not listening adequately
to a client s answers can compromise the success of the event you plan (Entrepreneur Press, 2010,
p.28). Arguably, the interaction between the client and the promoter is the most vital due to the
communication between the two parties being the starting point of the project. Various factors were of
greater importance such as the purpose and date of the event, whilst other factors were subject to
compromise. Any event serves to gather a crowd with a common interest and in the case of a musical
experience, the musicians serve to entertain an audience. With regard to The Reveurs single launch,

it effectively help the reader visualize the scene and what is going on.
An example of the use of diction is when
Gripping my arm, Mother held it in the orange blue flame. My skin seemed to explode from the heat. I
could smell the scorched hairs from my burnt arm. As hard as I fought, I could not force Mother to let
go of my arm (Pelzer 41).
Rhetoric
(slaughterhouse five)
Kurt Vonnegut himself is a rhetor having written Slaughterhouse Five as anti war propaganda. His use
of rhetoric works effectively as it shows the struggles of a man who has to live with after war effects
as well a great number of deaths which are shrugged off.
A quote to demonstrate how Vonnegut is a rhetor is when he is talking to his old war buddy s wife
about how she doesn t want such a horrendous thing like war to be glamorized by the media.
You ll pretend you were men instead of babies, and you ll be played in the movies by Frank Sinatra
and John Wayne or some of those other glamorous, war loving, dirty old men. And war will look just
wonderful, so we ll have a lot more of them. And they ll be fought by babies like the babies upstairs.
So then I understood. It was war that made her so angry.

respectively twice daily (Berende et al., 2016). And the other patients got placebos twice daily

At the end of the study 205 patients (73.2%) reported a minimum of one adverse effect, like diarrhea

To measure results the researchers used a 36 question questionnaire at the beginning at the end of the

The Spiritual and Physical Dimensions in The Birthmark Essay
The Spiritual and Physical Dimensions in The Birthmark
Fred Allen Wolf notes in Taking the Quantum Leap that it was not until the 20th century that scientists
realized that to observe is to disturb, for observation breaks the wholeness of nature. If observing
disturbs, then when a scientist tampers and tries to perfect nature the result can only be disastrous. The
goal of most scientists is to observe and understand the mysteries of nature. Nathaniel Hawthorne
realized that the scientists of the 19th century were beginning to challenge the traditional views of
science and man. The traditional view of man holds that man is both material and spiritual.
Advancements in science led some scientists to begin to think that man was only ... Show more

This is evidenced when the narrator makes reference to the fact that Aylmer had studied the wonders
of the human frame, and attempted to fathom the very process by which Nature assimilates all her
precious influences from earth and air, (2). Aylmer did not want to accept the reality that there was a
mystery of life that was beyond our understanding and ability to manipulate. According to the
narrator, Aylmer had long laid aside in unwilling recognition of the truth that our great creative
Mother, while she amuses us with apparently working in the broadest sunshine, is careful to keep her
own secrets, (2). He laid aside the reality of the real spiritual world that lies beyond the grasp of man
because he was unwilling to face his own limitations as a man and scientist. As he embarked on his
plan to perfect Georgiana, he continued to lay aside the truth because the truth lay in the path of his
proposed scheme for the treatment of Georgiana, (2). William E. Grant comments that Aylmer is the
archetype for all Hawthorne s scientists, since he represents both what is best and what is worst about
all of them, (3). His goal was honorable, that is to rid Georgiana of her defect, his denial of the truth,
that his abilities were in fact limited, was his downfall. It isn t till later, that we see a glimpse that he
has begun to recognize his limitations as he faces the reality of a real and powerful spiritual world.

Betty Ozborn Essay
Fetty Ozborn Once upon a time there was a kid name Fetty, Fetty Osborn he was the son of Merlin

message said YOUR DADDY IS DRAGON DINNER! Once Fetty read the news he threw the closest

his first birthday. He took another sip of OJ and started to cry. Big fat tears rolled down his cheeks.

Clery Act Policy Analysis
When such prevalent policies like the Clery Act and Title IX exist on college campuses and for college
campuses, many people would believe that those policies are enough in regards to sexual assault and
rape on campuses. However, there are far more policy recommendations that could be put in place.
Females and males alike, through education, can become aware of what Title IX and the Clery Act are.
Awareness about current policies can lead to more people reaching out and coming forward about any
incidents they have faced during their time in college. Many colleges do happen to send students and
give students access to these policies but they are often ignored. Know the policies implemented and
know who is the coordinator of these policies. Far too often, people like to believe that sexual assault
and rape incidents rarely occur but that is not the case. Title IX and the Clery Act policies are there for
a reason.

Two Views of Violence
Two Views of Violence
It is easy to interpret that the world is more violent today than in the past, when violence is present on
many television and radio channels and dispersed so liberally throughout the internet. The truth of the
matter, however, is that physical violence has always been a part of our lives. Beginning with the first
murder in the Bible by Cain, an early example of violence in literature, physical violence has often
been a part of what one reads. In comparing the novel Maggie: A Girl of the Streets by Stephen Crane,
and the novel Deadwood Dick s Doom by Edward Wheeler, one can see that both novels portray many
types of physical violence, that there is not necessarily a relationship between the physical violence

In retaliation, little Jimmie kicked repeatedly at his father s shins (Crane 44). Most of the main
characters in this novel were uneducated, because they had to start work early in life. This is evident in
their manner of speech. Their lack of education kept them from realizing the effects alcohol has on
violence, and they drank a lot. Every time they drank, they became more violent. Jimmie is happiest,
though, when he has a dollar in his pocket (Crane 47). When he doesn t, he becomes despondent, and
then violent.
When comparing the two novels, however, Deadwood Dick does not make a connection between low
socioeconomic standing, and violence. Piute Dave is a well heeled but notorious young gambler. If
one were to consult a thesaurus, one would see that the antonym for well heeled is poor. One knows
Dave is not poor, also, because he and his band of ruffians did not take long to discover paying dirt
(Wheeler 1). Nevertheless, he and his band are certainly violent. Even the government officials are
cognizant of the lawlessness within the borders of Death Notch, and they hesitate to interfere
(Wheeler 1). With no one to stop them, they continue to fight. Hank Shakespeare, the Poet, is the bully
over all, and always ripe for a spree and never backward about waltzing right into a quarrel (Wheeler
8). One views a stabbing when Piute Dave

An Analysis Of Curiosity In Monkey s Paw By W. Jacobs
Curiosity In Humanity Since the beginning of time, humans have always been captivated by the
endless possibilities of life and the intricate subject of fate and destiny. Perhaps, it is simply integrated
into our nature. Although that wonder does come at a price in particular cases, it does not stop us from
collectively seeking out new experiences, and that is probably for the better. As seen in multiple
scenarios, whether it be in fiction or reality, curiosity is either paired with victory or loss or sometimes
both. In the Monkey s Paw by W.W. Jacobs, for example, the Whites family is seduced by an ominous
yet irresistible magical mummified monkey s paw. Even though each of their three wishes come true,
they are fulfilled at the result of drastic and horrifying circumstances. In comparison, when a person in
real life is curious about a questionable desire, it can have the same awful conclusion as in a work of
fiction. For instance, wishing to partake in drugs and or alcohol for the sake of indulgence can lead to

Business firms can use both competitive and collective strategies to manage their interdependencies.
The literature distinguishes three major dimensions of competitive strategies: price, promotional, and
product competition strategies (Khandwalla, 1981). Competitive strategies manage interdependence
successfully if they result in advantageous competitive positions, thus forestalling interdependence
and reducing decisionmaking uncertainty (Pennings, 1981). For Received 20 October 1986 Revised

Siege Of Jerusalem Research Paper
The Siege of Jerusalem Fall of Judea
Jewish history and cultural memory revolves around a few pivotal moments. One of the most
important is the 587 BCE Siege of Jerusalem, a moment that changed Jewish history forever.
The Kingdom of Judah
In 1948, the nation of Israel was created as a homeland for the Jews, a population without a place to
call their own. Right off the bat, this raises some questions. Why didn t the Jews have a home? And
why would they want Israel? The answer to these questions takes us back literally thousands of years
to an ancient kingdom named Judah. Judah, located in roughly what is now Israel, was home to a
certain Semitic speaking ethnic group. Any guesses which one? Judah...Jews...see how that works?
The Jewish people s claim to Israel is based in this ancient heritage. To really understand this,

This was the first Jewish Exile, in which the people of Judah were banished from their homeland. This
exile also resulted in the loss of the Jewish holy relics; after the Siege of Jerusalem, the Ark of the

The Hebrew people would not be allowed back into Jerusalem until the end of the century when the
Persian Achaemenid Empire conquered the region and permitted them to leave Babylon. From that
point, the Hebrews of Jerusalem existed as subjects of various empires, from the Persians to the
Greeks to the Romans. Throughout this time, they maintained the dream of becoming an independent
kingdom again, inspired by their memory of the Kingdom of Judah. The Temple of Solomon was
rebuilt, but the Jews were again banished from Jerusalem after the Romans laid siege to the city in 70
CE. The Jews would be without a homeland for nearly 2,000 years, united in the dream and promise
of a renewed Jewish state.

between African American and white students was cut in half, and the gap separating Latinos and
whites declined by one third. That progress came to a halt around 1988, however, and since that time,

The concept that makes Panera successful is the fact that the company serves healthy and high quality
food at an affordable price. Increasing prices to facilitate higher quality service in an effort to promote
corporate aspirations will provide Panera with negative feedback from its customers (Wharton, 2010).
The happiness that Panera customers experience with the products they are receiving now can be
verified through Shaich s statement in the video that Panera has an incredibly high customer loyalty.
Alternative Solutions It seems that Panera s biggest solution to its problem is simply maintaining the
momentum they have established in the business market. Panera Bread Company has not

The Power Of The House Of Representatives
Congratulations on being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. I believe you should be very
familiar with the Texas Legislature as you have served as a member of the Texas Legislature for eight
years. However, the U.S. Legislature in Washington D.C. is very different from the Texas Legislature
while having some similarities. I would like to list some of the similarities and differences between
these two legislatures to help you in the transition as the Congress has changed overtime and thus, to
help develop your Home Style. The modern Congress is a reformed Congress (Shaw, 2015:2). The
power of the House of Representative was held in the hand of the Speaker in the early 1900s.
However, a resolution was introduced by George Norris after leading the progressive Republicans and
Democrats into a revolt against Joe Cannon, the Speaker, in 1910. The power was moved to the hands
of the committee chairs, which were determined by seniority, after the revolt. (Shaw, 2015:3). The
seniority system was challenged in the 1950s and 1960s. As a result, a greater role was placed on the
Speaker of the House and the majority party on determining the assignment of the committee chairs.
Moreover, the sub committees had also become more important in the legislature. Later in the late
1960s and early 1970s, the wages of the Congress members and the number of staff had increased as a
result of becoming more professionalized . The franking privilege, the privilege of sending certain

Technology And Law Enforcement Agencies

Fate Or Free Will Controls Human Lives
Generally, fate refers to the development of events beyond a person s control (Aurobindo). As such, a
fatalist is a person who believes that whatever happens is, and always was, unavoidable. Moreover,
such a person strongly believes that he or she has no control over what happens the next moment,
tomorrow, next year, or several years to come. Free will, on the other hand, is formed by the power of
sanction (Aurobindo). In other words, it is consent by the spirit that it shall not be bound but that its
enjoyment should be bound by time, space, and causality and by the swabhava and the dharma
(Aurobindo). To determine whether fate or free will controls human lives, it is important to objectively
analyse, synthesizes, and respond to the critical conversation that the authors of class readings seem to
be engaging with regard to this subject. In connection to this, humanity has been fascinated by fate
and free will for a long time. Some philosophers in the Ancient Greek and the Middle Ages believed
that free will influenced human destiny while others believed that fate was responsible for what befell
mankind.
The theme of fate conspicuously permeates Homer s famous poem, Ilad, from the first to the last
sentence. The author asserts that death is a natural and unavoidable part of human existence from the
onset by affirming that Akhilleus anger is doomed and ruinous. In this regard, fate but not free will
defines consciousness in the Trojan War. Although everybody

  • 2. What Is The Similarities Between Memi And Sabu And The... Compares and Contrast of the Statue of Memi and Sabu, with the Statue of Gudea For this work, I am going to put side by side the two works and bring out their differences along their resemblance. The two works have in common some peculiar resemblance like the era in which they were produced, though being from different cultures and different time and space. Furthermore, though the material and finish are almost alike, there is a sharp contrast in their context and content. 1 Form The statue of Memi and Sabu is a wonderful art work that portrays a couple in an intimate posture which show how Egyptian were romantic. The statues are believed to be around 2575 2465 b.c. (metmuseum.org, n.d.) and made of limestone (rochjam.blogspot.com ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This statue is thus dedicated to follow their master in the other world and serve them faithfully. In contrast, King Gudea was a mighty personage and according to believes prevailing in that times, like most monarchs and kings, was believed to be immortal and it is seen in the inscription on the statue clothes Gudea, the man who built the temple; may his life be long (metmuseum.org, n.d.) The social position is clear in the stature, clothes and space of the statues. The Gudea statue feet does not touch the ground, and his position for me indicate people in his front venerating him. The multitude of statues and temples he has constructed is indicative of the fact that Gudea wanted his image at all sight in his Kingdom. On the other side, I see more simplicity in the posture of Memi and Sabu and though it is a funeral statue. The statue is more emotional and arouse sympathy and love to it. 4 Final ... • 4. Prosecution Intimidation And Witness Intimidation There are many reasons victims do no want to testify in court. Legal cynicism and witness intimidation are a couple of the top reasons. One reason I feel is overlooked is witness intimidation. Witness Intimidation is when threats are made by defendants to discourage victims or witnesses of a crime from reporting or testifying. (Connick and Davis 439) If a victim feels threatened, they often become hesitant to testify sometimes even to report the crime. With the right incentives, victims and witnesses would be more likely to participate in the process of testifying against a defendant. Witness intimidation happens in many forms, such as: looks, threats of violence, physical violence, property damage, etc. If you commit a crime, you will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These programs are still new in the eyes of the justice system. Victims and witnesses receiving help were more likely to appear when summoned than those who had not been aided. (Neubauer and Fradella 236) Victims who are testifying against a defendant are authorized to receive protection, whether inside or outside of court. There are services provided to protect the victims or witnesses. When waiting in the courtroom, they are entitled to a special waiting room, away and out of sight from the defendant and the defendant s friends and family. By separating the defendant from the victims and witnesses, it lessens the change of intimidation within the courtroom. Even victims and witnesses that are incarcerated have the option and availability to be separated from others to keep them safe. By separating from certain groups, gangs are not able to finish hits on a victim or witness. Another way to keep a victim or witness in testifying is ensuring that everyone coming in and out of the courthouse will be on video surveillance. By taping everyone coming into the courthouse, hopefully it would discourage any intimidation within the courthouse. Also by having surveillance, it would give the victims and witnesses a sense of security, knowing that anybody coming near them in the courthouse is on camera. One program to motivate victims to participate in testifying helps with compensating the victims or witnesses. During the process of the trial and even before when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Personal Lessons Learned From an early age I was taught the importance of personal integrity and the importance of being adaptable and prepared for any stressful situation that life may throw at you. During my time as a boy scout I was constantly taught to be prepared and to also to always be at the service of others. At the end of our camping trips we would be told repeatedly to leave this place, better than when you found it and this lesson has translated into my own life. I want to make the world a better (safer) place than when I found it. As I grew up, these lessons continued to play a key role in the decisions I made and have made me into the man that I ve become today. While in middle school and into high school I had the opportunity to be exposed to many cultures that were different than my own. I volunteered weekly through my church in a predominately Hispanic community that was located in the Port of Houston. The neighborhood was extremely impoverished and many of the students were involved in gangs, or had one or more parents that were incarcerated. The more I worked with these young men and women, the more I learned about myself and that the lesson I learned years prior of making the world better than when you found it rang true. • 7. The New Negro, By Alain Locke Throughout Alain Locke s works Values and Imperatives, Pluralism and Intellectual Democracy, Cultural Relativism and Ideological Peace, The New Negro, and Harlem, I found there to be a number of reoccurring themes, such as absolutes, imperatives, values, and relativism and their place in pluralism. I am going to be focusing on all the aforementioned themes and showing how they are all intertwined into the principles of pluralism. What is an absolute? In Values and Imperatives, Locke defines them briefly as imperatives of action and as norms of preference and choice. With the use of that definition comes the question of what an imperative is. In the preface of this piece, the editor writes that when Locke is referring to imperatives, he means compelling rules, guidelines, and actions. Our imperatives function as authoritative guidelines. A value, according to Locke, is an emotionally mediated form of experience, so judgments of value are essentially emotional judgments. For me, this is somewhat reminiscent of Emerson and his view on experience and values; a man does not consciously do something without having a belief or value behind it. Locke also goes on to later say in the same work that values are rooted in attitudes, not in reality, and pertain to ourselves, not to the world. The editor also writes that when Locke is referring to values, he generally means feelings, attitudes, beliefs, preferences, attenuations for moral principles, aesthetic ... • 10. Marine Engineer Was Robert Fulton Ships have been around for thousands of years, we used them to conquer other countries, to transport food and people, and for our enjoyment. Every ship that has been made, was unique. The Vikings made ships in different sizes, shapes, and made out of different types of wood. Ships have evolved from a huge row boat, to a steam boat, to a huge engine and with lots of little changes in between. We always need someone to make sure that those ships are running perfect and that it will make it home safe. Those people that work in the ships are called Marine Engineers they are the ones that make sure the ships will make it home. One very important marine engineer was Robert Fulton he was the person who created the steam boat and first to try and put an engine on a boat. Even though we have been making bigger and better ships we still look back at the older ships and how the Marine Engineering began and how our ships have changed. Boats were made before 4000 BC but most of these boats were rafts, logs of bamboo, bundles of reeds, air filled animal skins tied together to float down the river or any little body of water. The first boat was a hallowed out log that was like a canoe. That was estimated to be made around 8000 BC. The sail boat was made around 4000 BC it was made out little logs tied together with intestine and leaves. They made a sail out of reeds, this boat was called the Egyptian reed boats. • 11. Christopher Mccandles s Applied Human Development In... While reading Into the Wild several aspects of Christopher McCandles development and lived experiences can be applied to the topics that were examined in Applied Child Development. In particular, the themes of scarcity, parental involvement, distancing, and the culture of affluence are extremely salient in discussing Christopher McCandles experiences. Scarcity Feinberg introduces scarcity as the concept of having an inadequate supply of a certain need that is crucial to the development of the individual (Feingberg, 2015). For example, an individual can experience scarcity in money, space, time, love or support, and housing which all have an effect over time on their interactions with systems around them (APSY 418, 7/5.2017). Christopher experiences scarcity both through his own choices and as a result of the relationship that he had with those around him. For example, in his relationship with his father Christopher experiences a scarcity of affection and nurturing that would have softened the impact of his father parenting style and demand for perfection. This lack of emotional support, despite the presence of basic needs, cause Christopher to develop a lack of attachment to his father and made it easier for him to break off from his family later in his life. On the other hand, Christopher chooses to experience a scarcity of money, shelter, and other basic necessities when he leaves civilization and tries to survive in the wilderness. the lack of human interaction is ... • 12. The Role Of Abuse In Alice Walker s The Color Purple All of the abuse that Celie experiences from the men in her life rather than aggravating her and prompting her to take action against her oppressors instead breed complacency in which she believed that her situation although not ideal, was normal and therefore needed to remain the same. She even goes so far as to tell Harpo after he begins complaining about how rebellus his wife Sophia is to beat her (Walker, 37). This suggestion shows that Celie, in experiencing masculinist domination, has to in some degree normalized it (Bealer, 2012). This means that she sees the domination of Mister, as just another part of life, rather than a problem. However a positive linear slope was not obtained, but a negative mostly linear slope, with one value skewing the data. In order to calculate the Km and Vmax correctly a positive linear slope is needed, however as this is a negative slope, it essentially flips the positive slope 90° Anti clockwise, resulting in the x and y intercept being in different positions. A negative Km value of 0.0045 was obtained and the vmax was found to 3.082. These values are incorrect for the experiment due to the negative slope. • 17. Psychology And The Theory Of Psychology Psychology in a continuously growing tree with its roots stemming from the study of reality and knowledge known as philosophy first studied by ancient Greece (Wiley 8). It can be defined as the study of behaviours and mental processes in which behaviours are observable activities, and mental processes include all internal thoughts and emotions. Psychologists often have one (or more) of four goals in mind when they conduct research: describing, explaining, predicting, or controlling (5 6). Many great thinkers profoundly influenced psychology including Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow, Sigmund Freud and many others (Vickers).Various people throughout history contributed to different approaches and belief systems. A few examples of these systems are: structuralism focusing on mental processes, psychoanalysis focusing on the unconscious mind, behaviourism focusing on the unconscious mind (Vickers). Although there are many belief systems, modern psychologists share similar procedures and values known as the empirical method (Vickers). Psychology is theory driven, seeks evidence, multi leveled, and contextual, unlike philosophy which relies heavily on unproven beliefs, psychology aims to discover scientific information. Psychologists approach ideas using the scientific method based on Sir Francis Bacon s emphasis on minimizing bias (Wiley 29). They create hypotheses which according to Karl Popper must establish observations that could be refutable (30). Unfortunately, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Education of the Black Male in America Essay Today s education is often viewed as failing in its goal of educating students, especially those students characterized as minorities, including African American, Hispanic, and Appalachian students (Quiroz, 1999). Among the minority groups mentioned, African American males are affected most adversely. Research has shown that when Black male students are compared to other students by gender and race they consistently rank lowest in academic achievement (Ogbu, 2003), have the worst attendance record (Voelkle, 1999), are suspended and expelled the most often (Raffaele Mendez, 2003; Staples, 1982), are most likely to drop out of school, and most often fail to graduate from high school or to earn a GED (Pinkney, 2000; Roderick, 2003). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is no single overriding factor to explain this lack of success, but most scholars and researchers point out that beginning in the colonial era and continuing through most of our nation s history, the experiences of Black males in White society have been so negative and psychologically damaging (Pinkney, 2000; Staples, 1982) that they have given birth to and nurtured a deep seated and tenacious belief in their own, and the entire Black community s, inferiority. At the beginning of this history, Black male slaves were looked upon by White society as the most undesirable and least trust worthy of people, and they were treated accordingly. Black male slaves were closely associated with and compared to animals, and were said to have a deceptive and violent nature and to be uncontrollable and in need of the whip (Kunjufu, 1986). Given this formative experience in slavery, the fact that Black males have continued to be disadvantaged from birth to death throughout our nation s short history hardly seems to need explanation. A Broader Problem that plagues Black males are not totally the responsibility of the public schools, but are a responsibility of society as a whole (Delpit, 1995). We can say, however, that the public schools do play a major role in addressing the problems of Black male students. The Importance Of Organising A Local Live Music Event Four piece indie rock band The Reveurs reached out to promoters to assemble a live music event celebrating the release of new single, Control. The process of organising a local live music event involved various procedures, personnel, strategies and considerations. This document clarifies the preparation of the launch, supported by industry resources and the development of accordance. The project was conceived seven weeks prior to the event by headlining band, The Reveurs. Band members had a preconceived idea of what they expected from the event. Due to the nature of the event, it was most appropriate to book a promoter who would manage all elements rather than paying a sizable fee to an event management company. The promoter was expected to examine and determine all of the clients requirements through briefing. Asking too few questions or not listening adequately to a client s answers can compromise the success of the event you plan (Entrepreneur Press, 2010, p.28). Arguably, the interaction between the client and the promoter is the most vital due to the communication between the two parties being the starting point of the project. Various factors were of greater importance such as the purpose and date of the event, whilst other factors were subject to compromise. Any event serves to gather a crowd with a common interest and in the case of a musical experience, the musicians serve to entertain an audience. Diction In A Child Called It Nancy Zamora Ms. Blakeney AP Lang 7 July 2017 AP Summer Vocabulary Diction (a child called it) Diction is seen a lot throughout A Child Called It , specifically when David is describing the tortures he faced. The word choice included in the novel is rather harsh and graphic at times, but nevertheless it effectively help the reader visualize the scene and what is going on. An example of the use of diction is when Gripping my arm, Mother held it in the orange blue flame. My skin seemed to explode from the heat. I could smell the scorched hairs from my burnt arm. As hard as I fought, I could not force Mother to let go of my arm (Pelzer 41). Rhetoric (slaughterhouse five) Kurt Vonnegut himself is a rhetor having written Slaughterhouse Five as anti war propaganda. His use of rhetoric works effectively as it shows the struggles of a man who has to live with after war effects as well a great number of deaths which are shrugged off. A quote to demonstrate how Vonnegut is a rhetor is when he is talking to his old war buddy s wife about how she doesn t want such a horrendous thing like war to be glamorized by the media. You ll pretend you were men instead of babies, and you ll be played in the movies by Frank Sinatra and John Wayne or some of those other glamorous, war loving, dirty old men. The Spiritual and Physical Dimensions in The Birthmark Essay The Spiritual and Physical Dimensions in The Birthmark Fred Allen Wolf notes in Taking the Quantum Leap that it was not until the 20th century that scientists realized that to observe is to disturb, for observation breaks the wholeness of nature. If observing disturbs, then when a scientist tampers and tries to perfect nature the result can only be disastrous. The goal of most scientists is to observe and understand the mysteries of nature. According to the narrator, Aylmer had long laid aside in unwilling recognition of the truth that our great creative Mother, while she amuses us with apparently working in the broadest sunshine, is careful to keep her own secrets, (2). He laid aside the reality of the real spiritual world that lies beyond the grasp of man because he was unwilling to face his own limitations as a man and scientist. As he embarked on his plan to perfect Georgiana, he continued to lay aside the truth because the truth lay in the path of his proposed scheme for the treatment of Georgiana, (2). William E. Grant comments that Aylmer is the archetype for all Hawthorne s scientists, since he represents both what is best and what is worst about all of them, (3). His goal was honorable, that is to rid Georgiana of her defect, his denial of the truth, that his abilities were in fact limited, was his downfall. Beginning with the first murder in the Bible by Cain, an early example of violence in literature, physical violence has often been a part of what one reads. This exile also resulted in the loss of the Jewish holy relics; after the Siege of Jerusalem, the Ark of the Covenant was never seen again. The Hebrew people would not be allowed back into Jerusalem until the end of the century when the Persian Achaemenid Empire conquered the region and permitted them to leave Babylon. From that point, the Hebrews of Jerusalem existed as subjects of various empires, from the Persians to the Greeks to the Romans. Throughout this time, they maintained the dream of becoming an independent kingdom again, inspired by their memory of the Kingdom of Judah. The Temple of Solomon was rebuilt, but the Jews were again banished from Jerusalem after the Romans laid siege to the city in 70 CE. The Jews would be without a homeland for nearly 2,000 years, united in the dream and promise of a renewed Jewish state. Lesson ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He probably won t fall this low but Miami is the best team fit for Lauri, with Hassan Whiteside grabbing every rebound you could hide him on the glass, and they have a plethora of guards and forwards who can hide him defensively. A more realistic team, however, are the Kings and Hornets both teams need scoring badly and Markkanen would be just what the doctor ordered. For the Kings he would give them an offensive star to build around, and for the Hornets he will give Kemba Walker a pick and roll partner that could finally give him adequate space to create offense for that ... • 36. Student Achievement Essay Each year, children are failing in school. As the years progress, the number of children failing keep rising. In Closing the Achievement Gap , Kati Haycock, the Director of the Education Trust at the American Association for Higher Education, states Between 1970 and 1988, the achievement gap between African American and white students was cut in half, and the gap separating Latinos and whites declined by one third. That progress came to a halt around 1988, however, and since that time, the gaps have widened (6). He claims due to those statistics that students of color are not opted to have the gifted and talented school programs, which affects both the test score gap and the gap in academic performance (Berlak 2). Amy L. Wax, Professor of Law for The University of Virginia School of Law, on the other hand, shows a different cause in failure. She does not share the same views with Steele or Berlak. In her article, The Threat in the Air , she states, We resist confronting the social and behavioral causes of short falls in academic performance. Stark differences between groups in marriage rates, family stability, paternal involvement, parenting practices and discipline, and other habits and values, are associated with children s disparate academic success. (Wax 2). Wax also uses the idea that causes for failures are emotional , rather than undeveloped learning (Wax 2). Even though Steele, Berlak, and Wax have touched on the causes, there are consequences that always follow. The concept that makes Panera successful is the fact that the company serves healthy and high quality food at an affordable price. Increasing prices to facilitate higher quality service in an effort to promote corporate aspirations will provide Panera with negative feedback from its customers (Wharton, 2010). The happiness that Panera customers experience with the products they are receiving now can be verified through Shaich s statement in the video that Panera has an incredibly high customer loyalty. Alternative Solutions It seems that Panera s biggest solution to its problem is simply maintaining the momentum they have established in the business market. Panera Bread Company has not overextended itself and can be found on every street corner (Wharton, 2010). Following the Concept Essence that Panera set for itself eighteen years ago may not be the most efficient way to self improve. The requirements that are needed now in order to provide quality products and services may very well be different than what was needed eighteen years ago. The Concept Essence may need to be reviewed and fixed in an effort to be more compliant with the standards of 2012 and the needs of the customer in slower economy. • 38. The Power Of The House Of Representatives Congratulations on being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. I believe you should be very familiar with the Texas Legislature as you have served as a member of the Texas Legislature for eight years. However, the U.S. Legislature in Washington D.C. is very different from the Texas Legislature while having some similarities. I would like to list some of the similarities and differences between these two legislatures to help you in the transition as the Congress has changed overtime and thus, to help develop your Home Style. The modern Congress is a reformed Congress (Shaw, 2015:2). The power of the House of Representative was held in the hand of the Speaker in the early 1900s. However, a resolution was introduced by George Norris after leading the progressive Republicans and Democrats into a revolt against Joe Cannon, the Speaker, in 1910. The power was moved to the hands of the committee chairs, which were determined by seniority, after the revolt. (Shaw, 2015:3). The seniority system was challenged in the 1950s and 1960s. As a result, a greater role was placed on the Speaker of the House and the majority party on determining the assignment of the committee chairs. Moreover, the sub committees had also become more important in the legislature. Later in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the wages of the Congress members and the number of staff had increased as a result of becoming more professionalized . The franking privilege, the privilege of sending certain matter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Fate Or Free Will Controls Human Lives Generally, fate refers to the development of events beyond a person s control (Aurobindo). As such, a fatalist is a person who believes that whatever happens is, and always was, unavoidable. Moreover, such a person strongly believes that he or she has no control over what happens the next moment, tomorrow, next year, or several years to come. Free will, on the other hand, is formed by the power of sanction (Aurobindo). In other words, it is consent by the spirit that it shall not be bound but that its enjoyment should be bound by time, space, and causality and by the swabhava and the dharma (Aurobindo). To determine whether fate or free will controls human lives, it is important to objectively analyse, synthesizes, and respond to the critical conversation that the authors of class readings seem to be engaging with regard to this subject. In connection to this, humanity has been fascinated by fate and free will for a long time. Some philosophers in the Ancient Greek and the Middle Ages believed that free will influenced human destiny while others believed that fate was responsible for what befell mankind. The theme of fate conspicuously permeates Homer s famous poem, Ilad, from the first to the last sentence. The author asserts that death is a natural and unavoidable part of human existence from the onset by affirming that Akhilleus anger is doomed and ruinous. In this regard, fate but not free will defines consciousness in the Trojan War. Although everybody ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
