There are many devastating food issues in society; the same is true on college campuses.
Problems such as food waste, nutrition problems, and affordability are only a few of the troubles
intertwined with food. A college campus is much like a small city, it s residents, the students
produce a lot of foodwaste like anyone else, and if the university does not actively seek to combat
the problem of food waste, it will run ramped. Every day, on the campus of Stetson University,
roughly 3,000 students eat on campus. Thus, it can be a massive and complicated problem to
solve; however, making small changes to become proactive in the problem will make a sizeable
impact.
Stetson University may not have vast food options, yet for a small campus, it has a decently large
quantity. The school contains the standard school cafeteria, but it also offers a couple of chain
restaurants such as Johnny Rockets, Einstein s Bagels, a Food Truck, and a partially licensed
Starbucks. I live on campus; as a result, I eat on campus nearly every day so what types of food
and the health choices the school makes directly affects me, as I am not able to eat off campus too
often. The food truck is always interesting as it has a different regional food theme each week, so it
is always fun to see what is the theme of the week. The other restaurants have a set menu as they are
not a university owned chain, but they still offer a wide list of options. Unfortunately, some of the
options on campus are not too healthy. The cafeteria serves about half healthy and has unhealthy
foods, so sometimes it can be very tempting to make unhealthy nutrition choices. Although they do
attempt to display the healthy homemade style foods at the front and the unhealthy pizza and desert
like foods towards the back. It is important for the university to take an active approach in assisting
students who strive to eat healthily.

Although as I turned older, I realized that these simple animated cartoons shared important concepts
that you can put into your life. One of the concepts portrayed in the cartoon was teamwork. The
cartoons tended to show that if you don t work together, something will go very wrong. In real life I
find that this is reasonably true. Teamwork is important to accomplish something; the only issue is

development of thought and the innovation of new technological discoveries. Without logic, there
would be no reasonable or coherent way of thinking. Furthermore, there would be no person
capable of coding a program today. Two important logicians who have contributed a great amount to
the study of logic are Aristotle and Gottlob Frege. Aristotle is one of the many great ancient
Greek philosophers who are mentioned throughout many textbooks. He was a student of the Plato
(Aristocles) and a teacher to Alexander the Great. He has contributed to the studies of science,
philosophy, and logic. Although he may have made vital contributions to the study of logic, his
ideals have been reversed or significantly dispelled by the ideology of modern logic. Two men
who showed the limitations of Aristotle s logic are Gottlob Frege and Bertrand Russell. His
contributions to logic vary in many different sections of the study. However, one of his most
significant contributions is the notion of syllogisms. One of Aristotle s contributions that is heavily
taught in logic classes today is syllogisms. Syllogism, in layman s terms, is an argument with two

to the audience because the entire speech was about her and her adventures while escaping

Some encounter this through job struggles or family disputes. Others encounter it while waiting
at death s door, waiting for an organ transplant. On January 8, 2014, 120,990 people were waiting
for an organ transplant, wondering if they will be added to the 3,381 people who died last year
waiting for a new kidneyor wondering if they will become one of the 26,000 people in the United
States who die each year from end stage liverdisease (Kaihara and Vacanti; National Kidney
Foundation). Every 20 minutes, a person is added to the kidney waitlist and each day, 14 people
die while waiting for a kidney transplant (National Kidney Foundation). These numbers cannot be
ignored because blindness only results in loss of life.
Currently, alternatives, such as mechanical devices and artificial prostheses, don t repair tissue or
organ functions because they are not intended for integrating host tissues, and if these alternatives
are used for long term implantation, the recipient could suffer from an inflammatory response
(Chapekar). For illnesses such as end stage liver disease, the only successful treatment is through
transplant, and the odds of receiving a new liver is improbable (Kaihara and Vacanti). Another

Oxidase Abstract Catechol, in the presence of oxygen is oxidized by catechol oxidase to form
benzoquinone (Harel et al., 1964). Bananas and potatoes contain catechol oxidase that acts on
catechol which is initially colorless and converts it to brown (Harel et al., 1964). In this
experiment, the effect of pH on the activity of catechol oxidase was conducted using buffers
ranging from pH2 to pH10. Two trials were conducted due to the first trial results being altered
by an external factor. The results were acquired by taking readings every 2 minutes for 20
minutes from a spectrophotometer and then recorded on to the table. The data collected in the
table were then made into graphs to illustrate the influence of pH on the catechol oxidase
catalyzed reaction. After analysis, the data revealed that pH did have a significant influence on the
enzyme as recorded by absorbance per minute. However, the data was collected was not accurate
due to external factors, thus the results are debatable and should be experimented again for

Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who
published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals,
newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were
studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in
which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors
discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about
another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to
bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural
handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history.
To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub
sections. In the first section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century
agricultural history: population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new
knowledge, and farming s influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth
century farming handbooks in connection with the important events described in the first section. I

The appointments of both the Earl of Norfolk and Charles Brandon, Earl of Suffolk, seem
indicative of a politically and religiously conservative council. These facts obviously take
responsibility for these changes away from Cromwell.
The importance of the executive Privvy Council is that it gave drive and continuity to royal
government owing to the stability of its membership no longer did the impetus need to come

The Stamp Act required that British Colonists pay a tax in the form of a stamp on all printed
materials such as; land titles, licenses, playing cards, court documents, newspapers and more.
It was the idea of George Grenville in an attempt to raise a revenue from the colonies and it

war. The colonists grew to hate the tax because it required a greater amount of money and
strain on the rich than the poor. It was also about 70 percent more than Grenville originally
