This science fair project will test which antacids are most potent in neutralizing lemon juice. When
an acid and a base combine the base will neutralizing the acid in a chemical reaction; this is how
antacids work as well. Antacids are substances that will neutralize stomach acidity which in return

German Immigration To The United States And Their...
In the United States of North America ethnic groups are easily found everywhere. As a result, the
American culture is a combination of many other cultures such as Irish, Latin, African, British, etc.
However, one of the most significant of these is the German culture. German influence over this
country is so strong that it goes through science, to architecture, to music, to sports and
entertainment.
Germans left their homeland for several reasons such as, looking for an improved standard of
living, and later looking for freedom from military connection and political oppression (1796
1815), etc. It is possible to say that Germans have been present in America since the United States
belonged to Great Britain.

However, the revolutions failed and resulted in even stricter regulations being placed upon the
people. (German Immigration, 1999) In order to avoid dictatorial governments, many people fled
Europe and; consequently, America was a good option for them.
Germans, as many other ethnic groups, where willing to arrive in the promised land at any price,
which can be noticed in what they had to do to come here. Eltis notes that since the voyage was
long, difficult, and expensive, indentured servitude [...] allowed emigrants in effect to charge the
price of the transatlantic fare until after their arrival in America. (2002) At the time, it was pretty
common that immigrant groups were bound to their ethnic lines; for example, German immigrants
were bound mostly to German American masters. In effect, German colonists financed the surge of
German immigration families and single young men, Merchant with interests in developing the
shipping of immigrants across the Atlantic into profitable business introduced the innovative
adaptation of indentured servitude a strategy which depended in large part on the willingness of
German settlers to invest in the future labor of kin and former neighbors. (Eltis, 2002)

Fanaticism In Texas
The state of Texas is globally associated with images of the wild west and horseback riding
cowboys such as John Wayne. These thousands of classic western novels and films have shaped
the world s perspective of the large state of Texas. Contrary to popular opinion, Texas lifestyle is
not as portrayed, Texans do not travel by horseback to local convenience stores or go on long

Early Learning Observation Paper
As a licensed family child care provider the opportunity to leave my learning environment to
observe in another center is problematic due to licensing regulations. This observation took place
in my own program which is licensed for eight children, currently varying in ages from 19 months
of age to five years of age and has a four star bright star rating. At any given time there are always
two teacher assistants on staff. I currently have four part time assistants that work in the learning
environment. As there are eight children enrolled each day the ratio must be a 2:8 ratio,
therefore I must be included as part of the ratio. This does not allow me the privilege to leave my
program, but it allows me to survey my teaching assistants to observe in a more objective way to
collect data regarding this assignment. I asked each of them to review the questions that I was to
answer and I compared them to my own data. Through this process I was able to gather
information and see through a different lens. The following paragraphs will summarize what was

Persuasive Essay On Duck Hunting
The reason that I would like to run a duck lodge and guide duck hunts is because duck hunting is
what I am most passionate about. There are thousands of duck lodges located all across North
America. Duck hunting has increased in popularity over the past 15 years mostly due in part to
the popularity of it on T.V. With that being said this has caused a large increase in the number of
lodges being created, to be able to keep up with the demand. Jobs in this field are found all over
North America, they range from Alaska all the way through Canada, and as well as all over
through South America. Jobs relating to this career are mostly found around high trafficked areas
of migrating waterfowl, places like Stuttgart, Arkansas (known as the rice and duckcapital of the
world), Salt Lake City, Utah, around many small towns in North Dakota, and the Outer Banks of
North Carolina. General duties of this field would be equipment maintenance, time management,
farming, earth moving, and lodge maintenance. Specific duties of this job would be agricultural
management for waterfowl, conservation efforts for waterfowl, and being successful when
guiding other people and ensuring clients safety. Hours of work ordinarily required for this job
could vary, duck guiding and hunting is very seasonal, most states only allow a general 60 day
season. During those 60 days you could be up 2 hours before sunrise and not going to sleep till

What is your advice to other young people who wish to become actors?

Reliability of Polygraph Testing Essay
A popular way on many crime dramas to determine if a suspect is lying or telling the truth is by
hooking them up to a polygraph machine. In a matter of a minute the police are able to determine if
the suspect is lying and guilty or, on the rare occasion, telling the truth and innocent. But, one has to
wonder, is it really that simple? Polygraphs measure four main factors that are thought to change
when a lie is told and more importantly, it is assumed that these changes indicate deception. The
four main factors are blood pressure, heart beat, perspiration, and breathing and these are recorded
by using simple devices. It is important to note from the beginning that those who question the
reliability of polygraphs do not doubt the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another noteworthy contribution was Vittorio Benumbs. Around World War One (WWI) he
experimented with a device that measured the rate and depth of breathing and based on these
experiments he concluded that this device could be used to gauge deception (The History and
Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). The United States government put these ideas of deception
testing to work during WWI when they measured the blood pressure of prisoners of war during
questioning. The first real big development towards the modern polygraph detector was in 1921
when Dr. John A. Larson invented an instrument that made the first permanent record of blood
pressure, pulse, and respiration (The History and Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). Despite all
the contributions from various people, the father of the polygraph is considered to be Leonard
Keeler. Keeler created his own polygraph which included a device called the galvanic skin
response which measures changes in skin s resistance to electricity, and therefore prespiration (The
History and Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). He is regarded as the father of the polygraph because
his polygraph combined the three main components that make up all modern polygraphs: the
pneumograph (records respiration changes), cardiograph, and the galvanic skin response.

Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again
Wake Up America As we age, our lives are divided into stages with inescapable hardships. The most
difficult of these stages has proven to be adolescence and young adulthood, the years in which our
personalities are defined. This juncture is the pinnacle of maturation, however, it is gradually
becoming a plateau wherein inactivity is most prevalent. It is indisputable that American children
and young adults alike are lingering in their youth for far too long. Many in their teens and twenties
are holding tight to the freedom of childhood by depending on their parents, refusing to settle down,
and avoiding responsibility. Through their lack of independence, inability to commit and their
indolence, certain action must be taken against adolescents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As boundaries are pushed, the standards of what it means to be an adult are changing. One factor
that is keeping our young adults from becoming functioning members of society is their lack of
independence. In Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again, a 2008 study showed that out of
those who have returned home or those who never left the nest, few contributed financially to
the household or [do] chores (par. 5). If the leaders of our future generations refuse to contribute
to their homes, what can they contribute to the betterment of our society? There is a growing
stigma around adults who live with their parents yet these consequences are not proving any
prevention, and those who ignore the reputation are being described as having failed to launch,
(par. 4). The numbers of those adults are steadily rising. As less emphasis is placed upon the
value of responsibilities, adults feel that they are given the excuse to move back home after
college or at least find a way to depend upon their parents again. An article by Karen L.
Fingerman and Frank F. Furstenberg entitled You Can Go Home Again, argues for a recent study
depicting that almost 70 percent of parents still provide some type of practical assistance to their
children every month. This specific reliance teaches adolescents that they will never have to work
to their maximum potential as their parents will never truly stop cleaning up their mess. While it
must be considered that higher satisfaction and clearer life goals have been reported amongst those
receiving assistance (par. 3), this gives leeway to indolence and overdependence, essentially
teaching our children that effort is not necessary so long as you are

In the novel The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd, Master Grimke is given two different

Drinking Age Persuasive Essay
When picturing college, people should think about huge classrooms, hard professors, and a
better learning experience than they have ever received before. In reality, two things come to
everyone s mind before anything else: partying every night and binge drinking. The United
States has some of the highest rates of underage drinking and hospitalizations due to alcohol
poisoning. In Barrett Seaman s article, How Bingeing Became the New College Sport, Seaman
argues that continually adding more restrictions to the drinking law could be making the issue
worse or maybe causing the entire problem. By focusing on college binge drinking, Seaman
convinces his readers that instead of twenty one, the US should lower the drinking age to
promote appropriate drinking habits. The drinking age set at eighteen was not originally an issue.
In the late 60s, the voting age was changed to eighteen; privacy laws were enacted; and the
drinking age, depending on each states decision, was lowered to eighteen as the new age that
legally defined adulthood (Seaman 1 2). Then in 1984, Congress was influenced by Mothers
Against Drunk Driving to pass a law that combined compliance of the states with federal aid
highway funds in exchange for the members support; forcing the states to raise the drinking age to
twenty one. There is no doubt that the law, which achieved full 50 state compliance in 1988, saved
lives, but it had the unintended consequence of creating a covert culture around alcohol as the

The Jazz And The Blues
Music and dancing was also another influence that occurred during this time period. Jazz and the
Blues were the most common and well known types of music, which could have sometimes been
involved in the types of dancing that happened in the Roaring 20s. The type of music that we
call jazz was a great turning point between the whites and the African Americans who were
segregated. It lessened the amount of segregation between the two races and brought people of
all races together no matter what color they were. The music helped people that were in need of
jobs and the main places that were affected were New York and Chicago. An important figure in
the history of jazz was Louis Armstrong who played the trumpet and cornet to play his music.
Along with jazz, the blues was a type of music that was inspired by the African Americans of that
time. The African Americans that started the blues were in churches or either in hollers working
in the fields. They would sing these songs as they worked hard on the long days on the farm. The
blues first started from the African Americans located in the Mississippi Delta. There were many
different types of dances that are still being used today even though it was made about a hundred
years ago. Some of these dances included the Charleston, the Tango, the Shimmy, and many more
other dances. Dance was the entertainment of the daily lives of many people. It was to the point
where churches even used it to get the attention of young people and

The Mende Man Pieces Together The Story Of Jesus Christ
Faith plays an important role in the Mende s road to freedom. When the word faith comes to
mind, it is one that concerns a belief in some power and requires perseverance in that belief. The
Mende people certainly showed faith in more ways than one, but an example that is true to the
definition mentioned before is one where Cinque and one of his fellow Mende look over the
Bible. After examining the pictures, the Mende man pieces together the story of Jesus Christ
despite knowing very little English. He shows the story to Cinque, and both men see how Jesus
had unrightfully died, yet in death he had arrived in a place more beautiful than the world on which
he lived. As a response, Cinque and his friend mustered up the faith to propel them... Show more

With faith and hope, they entrusted all communications to Cinque and had faith that he would
speak for the best of all the Mende. This faith in Cinque as well as a faith in a better life after the
trials brought unity amongst the Mende people. From then on, they become more than just a tribe.
Through faith, they had grown close enough to consider one another family.
Consequently, family is another prevalent theme in La Amistad. Since the opening scene, the Mende
people considered themselves as one tribe, one people, and one family. This was shown when
Cinque bloodily unlocks his hand and ankle bindings in the bottom of the Amistad, but he does not
stop there. With bloody hands and fatigue overcoming him, he draws out extra strength to free his
family around him. In doing so, the Mende stay as one unit and work together to complete a
successful insurrection against the ship s crew, so that they can reunite with their beloved family
members back in Africa. However, rather than standing still and keeping quiet, they bring their
home in Africa to America. They bring the traditions that run in the Mende family and stay faithful
in performing those traditions. For example, when one Mende died in the prison, they attempted to
hold a customary ritual to show due respect and allow eternal peace for the soul of their recently
passed family member. Although the whites opposed them from doing so, the Mende people were
fervent about their African duties and respects towards

Astrology Influence On Renaissance
Astrology is the use of the relative positions of celestial objects to predict events on Earth. It is
an ancient field of study, having been in use thousands of years before common era. Cultures
around the world had been looking to the skies for forecasts on happenings in their everyday lives
long before Europeans began to do so. In Europe, astrologynever established itself as a large
influence on society until the Renaissancecame around, mostly due to the strict Catholic principles
that bound people to a particular set of beliefs. Prior to the Renaissance, according to the

Air Pressure Of A Soccer Ball
The original question was, What is the effect of air pressure of a soccer ball on its bounce, ramp
travel, and catapult travel? The hypothesis stated that if a soccer ball is inflated to 5 different air
pressures (namely 6.9 kPa, 31 kPa, 55.2 kPa, 79.3 kPa, and 103.4 kPa), then the soccer ball that
is inflated to 103.4 kPa (15 PSI) will perform the best in all three tests: namely the bounce, ramp,
and catapult travel tests. According to Soccer Ball World, higher air pressure correlates to further
travel. This is due to that fact that higher pressure improves the rebound of the soccer ball off of a
player s foot, and less energyis lost to deformation on a stiffer ball. However, after experimentation,
the ball that was inflated to 55.2 kPa... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the bounce test, the ball may have been released from different points. Although it was
supposed to be released from its bottom, human error may have compromised the precision of
this measurement. To improve the design of the bounce test, the ball s bottom point should be
marked, and the ball should always be released from there. During the ramp test, the ball may
also have been released from different points. Although the ball was supposed to be placed on
the ramp so that it would be released from the front, human error may also have compromised the
precision of this measurement. In addition, human error may have caused unintentional and
unnecessary force applied to the ball. To solve these design issues, a door should be made that
holds the ball at a certain position for a fixed amount of time before the experimenter released the
ball. During the catapult test, the ball may have been held back for an excessive amount of time.
To resolve this experimental design issue, a fixed time to hold the ball back should be

The Yellow Wallpaper Research Paper
A tale of Two Ghosts: The Yellow Wallpaper and the Things they Carried
When people think of normal ghost stories they think of stories told around the campfire. Like a
ghost of a one handed axe murder that kills kids that venture out into the woods, or the ghost of a
kid who drowned in the lake and seeks vengeance on every camper that comes there. Many people
don t associate ghost stories with tales like Macbeth and Hamlet by Shakespeare. Or other works of
literature like the Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and the Things they Carried by
Tim O Brien. Both tales are great examples of a unconventional ghost story not normally told
around the campfire, because of the hidden underlying ghost .

Making the room seem more prisonlike then homely. It is within that room that the reader is
first introduced to the ghost . As time goes on the narrator begins to see a woman behind this
ghastly yellow wallpaper that she is forced to look at every day. We are introduced to this
wallpaper as a woman that is stooping down and creeping behind that pattern (Gilman 72). As
the story progresses the narrator begins to see the woman more and more clearly behind this
yellow wallpaper. The outside pattern I mean, and the woman behind it is as plain as can be (73).
The longer the story goes the more the reader begins to understand who the woman is. Behind the
Yellow Wallpaper lie our narrator and her thoughts and emotions. Like the woman she sees behind
the yellow wallpaper she feels trapped without a way out. And the ghost is what she sees within
herself. Both are being kept inside during the daytime while they want to be outside being active.
As we progress the woman behind the wallpaper shakes and moves more agitated, as the narrator
herself becomes more agitated and trying to break free in a sense. What the reader comes to
understand within the story is that the narrator isn t trying to break out of the room, but rather
break out of the submissive relationship she has with her husband. And the ghost behind the
wallpaper represents

The Gravitational Pull Of The Sun And Moon
The constant pattern of rising and receding of the sea level is called the tide. But just what causes
this?... Gravity, to be more specific the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon.
The best way to understand how the tides work is first acknowledging the relationship between the
rotation of the earth with the Moon and Sun. As we know the Earth spins on an axis, the water on
earth is kept at equal levels all around the planet by a combination of gravity pulling inward and
centrifugal force pushing outward.
Just the Moon s gravitational forces alone are strong enough to interrupt this balance by speeding
pushing the water towards the Moon. This makes the water to swell. As the Moon circles Earth
and as our planet rotates, the swell also moves. The areas of the Earth where the swells occur have
a high tide and the other areas will have a low tide. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here s an analogy: imagine yourself trying to swing a heavy object like a rock attached to a rope
around your waist as you spin. You have to lean back to compensate, which in turn makes the
center of mass between you and the object. gravity could be explained and an invisible rope that
holds objects together, and centrifugal force is a boundary between to two objects. Because if the
centrifugal force is stronger than the Moon s gravitational pull, ocean water on the other side of the

Analysis of Microsoft Financial Statements
Analysis of Financial Statements
Financial statements are frequently a key source of information for financial decisions and taking a
look at Microsoft s financial statements can help us decide certain things about the company. There
are three different types of statements that will be discussed in this section. These include: the
balance sheet, the income statement, and the statement of cash flows. They are discussed here in
either the sense of quarterly or yearly statements and will be noted as so. All information has been
derived from Yahoo Finance. (http://finance.yahoo.com) The first statement that will be analyzed

The final section of the statement of cash flows is the financing section, which shows the
dividends paid, the purchases of stock, the net borrowings, and other possible cash flows from
financing activities. A positive trend for investors is the fact that dividends paid has increased
(even though it is negative to the firm) as well as sale purchase of stock, from 2009 to 2011 and
even increased quarterly in 2011. The net borrowings is off an on from 2009 to 2011 possibly
because of certain funds needed in particular years. In 2009, it was $5,746,000,000 and in 2010, it

of how a company is performing, one key principle about must be known when viewing them to

it from having massive impact when it came to the soundtracks from the movie. The most
outstanding song was Earned it by The Weeknd. Now, this song has an enormously great remix

Taoism By Lao Tzu
Anette Dopico
PHI 2010
Professor Jacob
March 18, 2018
Taoism is a philosophy which also means a way of life. Lao Tzu started this, he lived a little
before Confucius, about 600 BC. Tao means the path or way . Lao Tzu worked as a a record
keeper. He believed that happiness was for people to just go with the flow , meaning to let things go
about on their own rather than forcing the situations. According to Confucius, each person should
act with virtue in all social matters; family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure unity. Lao
Tzu thought it was extremely wrong for people to fight in wars. He was also extremely against a
government making up rules and regulations on how people should do things in their life. Taoism is
against anything with certain regulations, even a food diet.
Lao Tzu thinks people should make their own decisions in situations that they experience in life.
To follow Taoism is to understand who you are yourself and everything else will come naturally.
By doing nothing one could accomplish everything. Don t go against what you have been faced,
instead go through it and learn from it, and never force anything because by doing that, you are
not doing anything good for yourself. Another key point of Tzu s writing is: we need to be in
touch with our real selves. We spend a great deal of time worrying ... Show more content on

experience the world more to be able to take it all in. Certain things happen on their own and
cannot be forced, like grieving gaining knowledge, developing relationships. Lao Tzu says we

The Power Of Choice In Brian Doyle s Joyas Voladoras
From hummingbirds nimbly flying over flowers to humming women quietly walking through the
park, Brian Doyle s essay, Joyas Voladoras, brings light to the power of choice in relation to human
experience and emotion. Doyle displays this power of choice through vivid descriptions of two
animals: a hummingbird and a blue whale, two seemingly different organisms. However, instead of
focusing on the obvious disparities of the animals, Doyle concentrates on what makes them similar,
the heart. Both the hummingbird and blue whale have hearts, but they use their hearts in drastically
different ways, one heart being the smallest and another being the largest in the world. Contrary to
the beliefs of science and evolution, Doyle believes that humans are not so different from these two
creatures, because, no living being is without interior liquid motion. We all churn inside (3).
Suddenly, the essay transforms from a National Geographic journal to a heartfelt message that
connects all of the humanrace. Doyle dives into how the heart experiences so many emotions and
ideas throughout a human life. Knowing that the heart is a delicate jewel, Doyle demonstrates that,
all hearts finally are bruised and scarred, scored and torn, repaired by time and will, patched by
force of character, yet fragile and rickety forevermore (3). Doyle understands that many individuals
try to defend their hearts and protect them from any harm, but those hearts will eventually be hurt

Mise High Scene Analysis
3.3 Technique
Twin Peaks uses breaks of conventions of mise en scene frequently. In episode eight of season
two, several figures of the police force are lined up and the camera has a steady angle for minutes
. Gordon Cole walks from person to person, shaking their hands and thanking them for their great
work. The scene looks unnatural and the steady camera reinforces this impression. It looks like
someone filmed a boss from a company thanking his employees, which is what actually is
happening: The director is thanking his actors for good work. The scene is unnecessary for the plot
and does not relate to anything else during the story which is also an indicator that through the use

Lester Nygaard is chased by the police on a snowmobile, which is a common scene in action
movies such as James Bond. The picture follows the conventions of mise en scene, showing the
fast vehicles and the tension in the faces of the characters with cuts from many different camera
angles. According to the rules of mise en scene, a fast and action packed music would be fitting
for such a chase. In its place though, the filmmakers used a slow, melancholic and cautious music.
Sound and action are in contrast and the rules of mise en scene, which Sergei Eisenstein called
synchronization of sound (The Film Sense 1974: 69), are again contradicted. So, Fargo works
with contrasts of expected events due to certain compositions of mise en scene while Twin Peaks
over stylizes scenes and lets the director himself explain techniques of how a picture is composed.
With those different approaches, both series revise conventional use of

Cognitive Biases Are An Influence On An Individuals Method...
It is known that cognitive biases are an influence to an individuals method of decision making.
Cognitive biases are the tendencies to think in certain and specific ways which could lead to
systematic reasons to a standard of rationality or good or bad judgement. Decisions are the acts
or processes of deciding out of question or doubt, determination, making a judgement or the act
for making up one s mind to conclude to a selection of choices. Conscious and controlled

In a study of 79 students, it has been found that the ability to avoid biases as measures of critical
thinking was correlated with more than the traditional laboratory measure of how to measure
critical thinking, and found that the ability to reason logically was due to prior and already
experienced logic conflicts that involved prior beliefs (Stanovich, Toplak West, 2008). It has
been said that decision making can be processed into focused attention to what may be a relevant
aspect in how some decisions can be problematic and damaging to ones self esteem, finances,
family life, social life, work life, and love life (Böhm Pfister, 2008). Heuristics Heuristics are
general decision making strategies that people use which are based on not a lot of information, yet
sometimes seem to show a better outcome of making correct decisions (Shah Oppenheimer, 2008).
Heuristics are mental short cuts that greatly help and reduce cognitive burdens associated with
conscious and controlled decision making (Shah Oppenheimer, 2008). It has been argued that
heuristics reduce work in decision making in several ways (Shah Oppenheimer, 2008). Heuristics
offers decision makers the ability to scrutinize signals and alternative choices in decision making.
Heuristics also diminishes work of influential and retrieving information necessary to making a
choice or passing judgement, therefore making it easier for one to make a

Aristotle s Tragic Hero in Shakespeare s Macbeth Essay...
Aristotle s Tragic Hero in Macbeth
Aristotle and Shakespeare lived ages apart, but Aristotle had a great affect on Shakespeare s plays.
In Shakespeare s tragic play, Macbeth, the character of Macbeth is consistent with Aristotle s
definition of the tragic hero.
Aristotle s tragic hero is a man who is characterized by good and evil. He is a mixture of good
characteristics and bad characteristics. For example, Macbeth was an honorable Thane of Glamis.
He was a valiant fighter who had protected his country of Scotland well, but he wanted to be king.
His vaulting ambition caused him to kill King Duncan which ended up in his fall. Aristotle s tragic
hero has a tragic flaw, or harmatia, that is the cause of the downfall. ... Show more content on

However, as soon as the witches spark ambition in him, he is no longer trustworthy and becomes
evil and deceiving. Even before he reaches his home, thoughts of murder creep into his head and he
is overcome with the desire to be powerful.
The prince of Cumberland: that is a step on which I must not fall down, or else o erleap, for in
my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires, let not light see my black and deep desires, the eye wink at
the hand. Yet let that be, which the eye fears when it is done to see (Shakespeare21).
At this point in the play, Macbeth s ambition starts to come into view. The seed has been planted,
and there is no turning back. Macbeth becomes bloodthirsty and powerstricken forcing himself
further and further into a web of ambition from which he is unable to detatch himself.
Macbeth s ambition is what allowed him to become powerful. Without ambition, it is impossible
to achieve goals. Therefore, ambition is what allowed Macbeth to overcome his obstacles and
come closer to his final goals. As soon as he developed the trait of vaulting ambition, Macbeth is
able to make his life fall into place exactly the way he wants it to. He first murders Duncan so
that he will become king. Macbeth s ambition is directly the cause of this tragic incident. This
murder is in cold evil blood by Macbeth s own hand; at this point he starts seeking his future on

Reflective Reflection
The British Association of Occupational Therapists (2007) states that reflective practice is
fundamental in continuing professional development (CPD) in order to keep skills and
knowledge up to date and to practice effectively, safely and legally (Health and Care Professions
Council, 2012). Reflection is vital for all healthcare students in order to establish links between
theory and practice (Jasper, 2013), that will help increase clinical reasoning and enhance
professional practice (Rigby et al., 2012). Using models of reflective thinking makes sure that
reflectionsare meaningful to our personal CPD (Armitage et al., 2012).
Models of reflective thinking are designed to aid us reflectively. Each models varies in how much
information, description, evaluation and critical analysis are needed. The most commonly used
models in healthcare are; Gibbs, Kolb and Borton. In order to choose a reflective model an
individual must firstly know what they want to achieve and how in depth they want to go with their
reflection (Jasper, 2013).
For this reflection I have chosen Gibbs (1988) model to help me understand my role, actions and
behaviours throughout my group work sessions with my Personal Professional Development

Multicultural Nursing Care Essay
Multicultural Assignment
Transcultural nursing care knowledge is essential to provide culturally congruent nursing care to
patients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds (Hood, 2014). An important element of
holistic nursing care is the incorporation of sensitive cultural practices that meet the patients and
their families needs alike. For this assignment, I have chosen to research Japanese cultural health
practices and their relevance to nursing care.
The Japanese culture places high value in respect, family structure, ancestry, religious and spiritual

Volcanic lakes can be created in three ways. Water collection in a crater formed by vulcanism is
the first way. Nemrut crater is a good example for that kind of lakes. The lava can create a natural
dam which means its a good opportunity to collect water and form into a volcanic lake such as Lake
Van. The other way is the explosion of gas which creates a hole on the surface. And water filling
the hole helps becoming a lake. This kind of volcanic lakes are called maar such as Lake Abant.
Generally, volcanic lakes have not an outlet, and they are increasingly mineralized because the
mineralized water flows from mountains fills the hole and then it evaporates. (Yusuf T.

In my opening statement I mentioned that I would call three witnesses to show the swindler s
guilt. Each witness explained this fact without a shadow of a doubt: 1) The emperor did not
have clothes on. So try to explain one thing, where were the clothes? They were most definitely
not on him and nobody saw him wearing his magnificent clothes. This Is why the swindler
deserves to be charged with fraud. They did not hold there end of the bargain. There is nothing
the defending side can say because he did not have clothes on. Yes the officials lied but truth be
told, wouldn t you? That is the only thing they can prove, which does not devalue the fact that
they committed a crime of fraud. To determine guilt in this case, the members of this jury only
have to ask themselves two questions: 1) Did my client pay for and provide materials for clothing
to be made and 2) Did the swindler produce the clothing. Not only did the swindler manipulate, lie,

The Code And Software Components Of An Information System
To protect any prestigious company and make it safe for both the employees and users certain
safeguards needs to be put in place in order to ensure integrity. Technical safeguards, data
safeguards, human safeguards, account management are some of the essential ways a company can
help protect their image. Technical safeguards include identification and authenticationvia user
names and passwords, smart cards, biometric authentication, encryption and single sign on for
multiple systems. Another is data safeguards which consists data administration, database
administration, key escrow, backup copies, and physical security for all devices that store database
data. Human safeguards are safeguards for employees, including security sensitivity for position
definitions. Account administration and system procedures are also an important part of data
security. These measures are put in place to ensure that the reputation of the company is upheld
throughout its daily operations.
The Use of the First Line of Technical Safeguards to Protect the Business
The hardware and software components of an information system is very important to the overall
functionality of the business organization. To ensure that only the right persons are accessing
sensitive information technical safeguards provide a sense of safety. Identification and
authentication is very critical for any information system. Identification is the unique username that
employees are usually given or is made by themselves. This

It is easy to say that species are constantly changing,...
It is easy to say that species are constantly changing, and branching off into totally new species.
But how do we know where the species originate? Phylogenies help to show us how all kinds of
species are related to each other, and why. These relationships are put into what can be called a
cladogram, which links species to common ancestors, in turn showing where, when, how, and why
these ancestors diverged to form new species. Without phylogenies, it would be extremely difficult
to put species in specific categories or relate them to one another. Along with phylogenies can come
conflict on which species should be related to one another. This conflict causes many hypotheses
and experiments, which can lead to phylogenetic retrofitting,... Show more content on

The parareptile hypothesis is taken back at least two decades. It has recently been rediscovered and
contradicted by parsimony. Bayesian inferences support this parareptile conclusion, but parsimony
concludes the idea of turtles being a sister group to pareiasaurs, which is an anapsid group,
including Eunotosaurus. To test these hypothesis, a multitude of data is compiled to observe the
stability behind the inferences made. In this article, one main experiment was discussed through
the collection and analysis of two retrofitted matrices, phylogenetic analyses, and molecular
scaffolds. In one matrice, Eunotosaurus was added to a diapsid focused data set, while turtles
were added to an anapsid focused data set. The diapsid sets included a broad sampling of diapsids,
which placed turtles as sisters to sauropterygians. The anapsid set, on the other hand, included a
broad sampling of anapsids, especially parareptiles. Turtles were not included in the anapsid set.
When the experiment moves on to the phylogenetic analysis, Bayesian inferences and parsimony
were brought into the mix. After these analyses, the experiment finally includes molecular
scaffolding. The effect of molecular scaffolding was to see where extant linneages interact with
molecular phylogenies. The, the Bayesian and parsimony analyses were again repeated with these
backbone constraints while everything else is indifferent. The idea

How Does Kate Chopin Tell The Story Of An Hour
A controversial story during the 1890s, Kate Chopin, A Story of an Hour, provides an inside look
of a woman who just found out her husband has died in a railroad incident. The story takes place in
one hour, hints the title, from the time the protagonist, Louise Mallard, is informed her husband has
died to the shocking ending. This short storyis consider one the first pro feminist stories and was
consider controversial due to the fact that the protagonist feels liberated by the news of her
husband s death. Today I will be discussing how the author tells the story and how she brings light
to a problem that is still a problem in today s world. I will analyze Louise reaction, Louise

Relationship Between The Stamp And Currency Act
Before the American Revolution, Great Britain ruled its colonies in North America. The ruling
government imposed strict taxes via its acts of parliament. Most of these taxes raised revenue for
the British troops and settling debts arising from the Indian and French war (1756 1753). This
paper provides details of the Stamp and Currency Acts.
The Stamp Act
On March 22, 1765, the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act which became effective on
November 1, 1765. This act implemented a direct tax requiring the colonies to use stamped papers
on all printed materials (George). The printed materials had a revenue stamp to facilitate tax
collection. Colonies paid the stamp tax using the British currency. The colonies used paper money
that could not pay the stamp tax. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The printed materials included newspapers, legal documents, and magazines among others. On
April 1763, George Grenville became British prime minister replacing John Stuart ( Stamp Act 1765
). Grenville appointed distributors of the stamp in the colonies, some of them included local
colonists. George Grenville initiated the Stamp Act.
The act faced a hostile reception where residents of major colonies protested against the act and
aired their concerns. Stamp distributors were in serious trouble. For instance, protesters hung
Andrew Oliver on an elm tree on August 14, 1765. He distributed stamps in Massachusetts.
Violence continued in critical colonies such as Rhodes Island and New York.
On October 1765, representatives from different colonies met in New York to discuss on
petitioning the Stamp Act. The meeting was known as the Stamp Act Congress. The
representatives provided proof that the parliament did not have the right to tax them. Meanwhile,
protests continued, and so many people lost their lives ( Stamp Act 1765 ). On March 18, 1766,
the royal assent repealed the act.

Detrimental Reliance
Detrimental Reliance Detrimental Reliance occurs when someone takes action or fails to take
action because of what appeared to be a promise made by another individual, without knowing if
true or untrue. It is very similar to Promissory Estoppel in that the other party is estopped or
legally prevented from denying liability, even though no formal contract was formed, because of
its promise. An estoppel by representation [of fact] will arise between A and B if the following
elements are made out. First, A makes a false representation of fact to B or to a group of which B
was a member. [It is not necessary to demonstrate A knew that the representation was untrue.]

After receiving his first patent for Modtrack, Condrey entered into a licensing agreement with
Harrell Equipment. This licensing agreement, and the copyrighted blueprints of the Modtrack
system, formed the basis of his lawsuit. In response to Condrey s allegations, Harrell Equipment
filed a cross complaint against SunTrust asserting that SunTrust: (1) fraudulently induced Harrell
Equipment to agree to the March 1999 deal because SunTrust never intended to follow through with
the agreement; (2) caused Harrell Equipment to partially perform and thus detrimentally rely on
SunTrust s oral promises; (3) fraudulently converted Harrell Equipment s property because SunTrust
s foreclosure proceedings involved violations of state law duties regulating professional conduct in
foreclosure proceedings; (4) breached its contract with Harrell Equipment when it failed to sell the
assets to Vada, the third party purchaser selected by Harrell Equipment; (5) tortiously interfered
with Harrell Equipment s business opportunities during its daily operation of Harrell Equipment;
and (6) concealed and destroyed evidence that would support Harrell Equipment s claims. The
magistrate judge found that the conversion and tortious interference with property rights claims
were improper collateral attacks on the underlying state court judgments; those judgments
terminated Harrell Equipment s interest in its assets and inventory. The

Like most modern films this has lots of quick snappy editing from one moment to the next. At
the very start is some good editing where there are pictures on top of pictures with a kissing
scene and scissors all intertwined as one. There is also a lot of cutting between facial
expressions and moving bodies all lapping over each other making the audience confused and
inquisitive to know what is happening. I feel that it is good because you get an insight of what
is happening, but the audience has no real idea what is going on. It is only until you see this
screen that Tom Cruise is working on that you can see what is happening. There is also a lot of
cutting in this film from what Tom Cruise is seeing and what is happening in real time. In the
opening clip for example you have you have the man murdering on screen then you have the
quiet family scene where everything is happening normally. I feel that this quick editing gives
the audience a chance to play along and see if they can work out how the quiet family scene at
breakfast goes from normal to completely insane like doing a jigsaw with no picture. I feel as a
viewer it is very sneaky how the producer managed to keep us guessing and thinking on how this
might occur. In the film there is also very quick editing when we are getting to the

different due to the fact that both were supported by the governing force at the time, and both were
ignited due to past tensions between two separate ethnicities. The Rwandan and Bosnian Genocides
were similar in the fact that both were supported by the ruling force at the time. The Rwandan

In both genocides, the ruling force of the country supported or organized the genocide of its
country. The Hutu government massacred the Tutsi, and the Serbians massacred the Bosnian
Muslims. Another similarity between the two genocides was that both were started due to past
hatreds between the two conflicting factions. The Rwandan Genocide was ignited due to hatred
of Tutsi by the Hutu when the former were still in power. The Bosnian Genocide due to long
lasting hatred between the Serbs and Croats. When Rwanda was first colonized Tutsi were
considered to be above the Hutu, but the balance of power was shifted between the two groups
when Belgium abandoned the state due to revolution. When the Tutsi were in power, the Hutu
were always treated inferior to the Tutsi. The hatred of the Tutsi by the Hutu lasted long enough
that the Hutu took revenge on the Tutsi in the form of genocide. In the Bosnian Genocide the
animosity and the hatred began even earlier. It began in the Croatian War from 1991 to 1995.
Serbian would occupy 30% of Croatian land. However the Croats in the displaced territory were
abused by the Serbs, and when Croatia received full independence in 1992, the Croatians took
revenge on the Serbs. In the same year, the Bosnian War began between the Serbs and Croats over
the newly declared independent Republic of Bosnia Herzegovina. In an act of revenge for the loss
of the Croatian War and the aftermath from it, the Serbs took revenge in the form of

Cloud computing has become a successful platform for delivering service oriented computing. The
applications of cloud computing are practically limitless. With the right middleware, a cloud

Salesforce.com allows companies to eliminate the hardware and software needed for their internal
network instead salesforce.com takes that responsibility. Companies only pay for what they need,
upgrades are automatic and they can increase or decrease their services easily. Salesforce.com
paved the way for both specialist and mainstream software firms to deliver applications over the
internet. The next development in cloud computing was Amazon Web Servicesin 2002, which
provided a suite of cloud based services including storage, computation and human intelligence
through the Amazon Mechanical Turk. Amazon Mechanical Turk holds a database of human
intelligence tasks these are tasks that people can login to complete for money or credit. These
tasks can range from organizing photos to debugging software. These are all task that can only be
performed by people and not computers. In 2006, Amazon launched its Elastic Compute cloud
(EC2) as a commercial web service that allows small companies and individuals to rent computers
on which to run their own computer applications. Amazon EC2 presented a virtual computing
environment, allowing companies to use web service instances with a variety of operating

Algeria After Independence Essay
After independence (1962 1999)
The Evian Accords which were signed in 1962 giving Algeria immediate independence and French
aid to help reconstruct the country. The French Sahara with its oil resources was also handed over
to Algeria. In return the FLN guaranteed protection and civil rights for the French Algerians
choosing to remain in the country, and the option of choosing either French or Algerian nationality
after three years.
Eight years of war had shattered Algeria. There had been more than one million Algerian casualties
and nearly two million Algerians had lost their homes. For over a century the French had deprived

The country s oil resources were developed and an industrial sector was established. Education and
literacy became a focus of concentration and agricultural land reform continued. In the process the
Boumedienne government developed a socialist political system which was codified in a
constitution in 1976. Under the new constitution Boumedienne was elected president of Algeria and
ruled until his death. However, for all Algeria s accomplishments during this period, imposing
authoritarian one party socialism on a traditional Islamic country was considered a mistake.
When Boumedienne s chosen successor, Colonel Chadli Benjedid, was elected president of
Algeria he began to relax the government s authoritarian practices and made a genuine attempt
to solve some of the country s problems. Benjedid also pardoned Ahmed Ben Bella in 1980 and
released him from house arrest. However, for all his liberal tendencies, Benjedid was a product of
the FLN military elite and was re elected in 1984 because he ran unopposed.
With the fall of oil prices and the resurgence of Islam, the government s credibility fell
dramatically. The manifest failure of world socialism and the government s failure to solve the
country s increasing social and economic problems, encouraged more and more Algerians to

There are environmental factors impact the spread of infectious diseases, and the main aspects
are water supply, hygiene services, food, and climate. An absence of safe water, a lack of
sanitation facilities, loss of living situations, and insecure food would cause suffering or
possible death. Instances of epidemics are Obesity, HIV, Cholera, and Malaria (Peterson, 2002).
Malaria is caused by parasites, which are organisms live on or in a host, and get food from the
same host, and the main affection come along by mosquitoes. Additionally, not all type of
mosquitoes can cause that transfer of bugs to people of bite them. Only one type of female
mosquitoes called Anopheles mosquitoes, which transmit parasite called Plasmodium from
infected people due to blood needed to grow their eggs (WHO, 2015). These parasites live and
grow inside the mosquito s salivary glands. Moreover, when a mosquito goes for the next bite, the
parasite injected into another human blood as a second host. The growth of the parasite multiply
quickly at the infected human liver, and then moved back to the red blood cells. In a short period,
approximate one or two weeks some of the malaria symptoms are starting to illustrate like vomiting,
headache, and fever. At that situation, patients should be treated rapidly with actual medicines, or

The National Security Agency Is Too Dependent Upon Cryptology
Our government and military are too dependent upon cryptology to ensure secure and authentic
communication. It is so profound that it led to the creation an entire federal agency, the National
Security Agency, whose primary purpose is to create and analyze cryptologic methods, and
whose published vision includes global cryptologic dominance. The first and most recent
spectacular round of surveillance came during the First World War and what became of it after
all was said and done. Fearing subversion by German Americans after declaring war on Germany
in 1917, the FBI and Military Intelligence expanded from insignificant bureaucrats into agencies,
with god like abilities, tasked with extinguishing any flame of disloyalty at any place in America,
whether by words or action. Only 9 percent of the country s population then had telephones, so
this made monitoring the loyalties of around 10 million German Americans show to be extremely
focused on labor, requiring a gratuitous of postal workers to examine around 30 million first class
letters and 350,000 badge carrying vigilantes to examine immigrants, unions, and every other
socialist a person could think of by means of shoe leather snooping. In the 1920s, right wing
conservatives were completely caught off guard by this threat to privacy which was slowly
beginning to diminish the power of Washington s security apparatus. This change wound up in
Secretary of State Henry Stimson s nullification, in 1929, of our government s

Credit cards have become the most common way to pay for large purchases; however, using a
credit card means you will be paying more for a purchase due to the interest gained. Simply
saving for a purchase over time, called a sinking fund, will be worth it when the purchase can be
completely paid in cash. Saving up cash has no interest on it, which means a purchase will be
cheaper paid in cash than on a credit card. Establishing a time frame to save up for a specific
goal will prevent borrowing money. One easy way to save money is to put away a certain
amount of money into a savings account every month. Moreover, it s important not to ease up or
decrease the amount of money going into the account. Bank systems have even produced a way
to automatically transfer money into the account. Another important aspect of saving should be
to create an emergency fund, but make sure it is separate from other saving accounts.
Emergencies occur in everyone s life and being prepared for whatever life brings is being one
step ahead of the game. Once the monthly expenses are calculated in a budget, it s a good idea to
create an emergency fund containing three to six months worth of expenses. The quote save for a
rainy day is what an emergency fund is for. Saving money takes discipline, but it will help towards

  • 4. German Immigration To The United States And Their... In the United States of North America ethnic groups are easily found everywhere. As a result, the American culture is a combination of many other cultures such as Irish, Latin, African, British, etc. However, one of the most significant of these is the German culture. German influence over this country is so strong that it goes through science, to architecture, to music, to sports and entertainment. Germans left their homeland for several reasons such as, looking for an improved standard of living, and later looking for freedom from military connection and political oppression (1796 1815), etc. It is possible to say that Germans have been present in America since the United States belonged to Great Britain. (German Immigration, 1999) In order to avoid dictatorial governments, many people fled Europe and; consequently, America was a good option for them. Germans, as many other ethnic groups, where willing to arrive in the promised land at any price, which can be noticed in what they had to do to come here. Eltis notes that since the voyage was long, difficult, and expensive, indentured servitude [...] allowed emigrants in effect to charge the price of the transatlantic fare until after their arrival in America. (2002) At the time, it was pretty common that immigrant groups were bound to their ethnic lines; for example, German immigrants were bound mostly to German American masters. In effect, German colonists financed the surge of German immigration families and single young men, Merchant with interests in developing the shipping of immigrants across the Atlantic into profitable business introduced the innovative adaptation of indentured servitude a strategy which depended in large part on the willingness of German settlers to invest in the future labor of kin and former neighbors. Early Learning Observation Paper As a licensed family child care provider the opportunity to leave my learning environment to observe in another center is problematic due to licensing regulations. This observation took place in my own program which is licensed for eight children, currently varying in ages from 19 months of age to five years of age and has a four star bright star rating. At any given time there are always two teacher assistants on staff. I currently have four part time assistants that work in the learning environment. As there are eight children enrolled each day the ratio must be a 2:8 ratio, therefore I must be included as part of the ratio. This does not allow me the privilege to leave my program, but it allows me to survey my teaching assistants to observe in a more objective way to collect data regarding this assignment. • 7. Persuasive Essay On Duck Hunting The reason that I would like to run a duck lodge and guide duck hunts is because duck hunting is what I am most passionate about. There are thousands of duck lodges located all across North America. Duck hunting has increased in popularity over the past 15 years mostly due in part to the popularity of it on T.V. With that being said this has caused a large increase in the number of lodges being created, to be able to keep up with the demand. Jobs in this field are found all over North America, they range from Alaska all the way through Canada, and as well as all over through South America. Jobs relating to this career are mostly found around high trafficked areas of migrating waterfowl, places like Stuttgart, Arkansas (known as the rice and duckcapital of the world), Salt Lake City, Utah, around many small towns in North Dakota, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. General duties of this field would be equipment maintenance, time management, farming, earth moving, and lodge maintenance. Specific duties of this job would be agricultural management for waterfowl, conservation efforts for waterfowl, and being successful when guiding other people and ensuring clients safety. Hours of work ordinarily required for this job could vary, duck guiding and hunting is very seasonal, most states only allow a general 60 day season. • 9. Reliability of Polygraph Testing Essay A popular way on many crime dramas to determine if a suspect is lying or telling the truth is by hooking them up to a polygraph machine. In a matter of a minute the police are able to determine if the suspect is lying and guilty or, on the rare occasion, telling the truth and innocent. But, one has to wonder, is it really that simple? Polygraphs measure four main factors that are thought to change when a lie is told and more importantly, it is assumed that these changes indicate deception. The four main factors are blood pressure, heart beat, perspiration, and breathing and these are recorded by using simple devices. It is important to note from the beginning that those who question the reliability of polygraphs do not doubt the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another noteworthy contribution was Vittorio Benumbs. Around World War One (WWI) he experimented with a device that measured the rate and depth of breathing and based on these experiments he concluded that this device could be used to gauge deception (The History and Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). The United States government put these ideas of deception testing to work during WWI when they measured the blood pressure of prisoners of war during questioning. The first real big development towards the modern polygraph detector was in 1921 when Dr. John A. Larson invented an instrument that made the first permanent record of blood pressure, pulse, and respiration (The History and Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). Despite all the contributions from various people, the father of the polygraph is considered to be Leonard Keeler. Keeler created his own polygraph which included a device called the galvanic skin response which measures changes in skin s resistance to electricity, and therefore prespiration (The History and Basic Facts of Polygraph, 2009). This juncture is the pinnacle of maturation, however, it is gradually becoming a plateau wherein inactivity is most prevalent. It is indisputable that American children and young adults alike are lingering in their youth for far too long. Many in their teens and twenties are holding tight to the freedom of childhood by depending on their parents, refusing to settle down, and avoiding responsibility. Through their lack of independence, inability to commit and their indolence, certain action must be taken against adolescents... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As boundaries are pushed, the standards of what it means to be an adult are changing. One factor that is keeping our young adults from becoming functioning members of society is their lack of independence. In Eve Tushnet s You Can Go Home Again, a 2008 study showed that out of those who have returned home or those who never left the nest, few contributed financially to the household or [do] chores (par. 5). If the leaders of our future generations refuse to contribute to their homes, what can they contribute to the betterment of our society? There is a growing stigma around adults who live with their parents yet these consequences are not proving any prevention, and those who ignore the reputation are being described as having failed to launch, (par. 4). The numbers of those adults are steadily rising. As less emphasis is placed upon the value of responsibilities, adults feel that they are given the excuse to move back home after college or at least find a way to depend upon their parents again. An article by Karen L. Fingerman and Frank F. Furstenberg entitled You Can Go Home Again, argues for a recent study depicting that almost 70 percent of parents still provide some type of practical assistance to their children every month. This specific reliance teaches adolescents that they will never have to work to their maximum potential as their parents will never truly stop cleaning up their mess. While it must be considered that higher satisfaction and clearer life goals have been reported amongst those receiving assistance (par. 3), this gives leeway to indolence and overdependence, essentially teaching our children that effort is not necessary so long as you are ... • 15. Drinking Age Persuasive Essay When picturing college, people should think about huge classrooms, hard professors, and a better learning experience than they have ever received before. In reality, two things come to everyone s mind before anything else: partying every night and binge drinking. The United States has some of the highest rates of underage drinking and hospitalizations due to alcohol poisoning. In Barrett Seaman s article, How Bingeing Became the New College Sport, Seaman argues that continually adding more restrictions to the drinking law could be making the issue worse or maybe causing the entire problem. By focusing on college binge drinking, Seaman convinces his readers that instead of twenty one, the US should lower the drinking age to promote appropriate drinking habits. The drinking age set at eighteen was not originally an issue. In the late 60s, the voting age was changed to eighteen; privacy laws were enacted; and the drinking age, depending on each states decision, was lowered to eighteen as the new age that legally defined adulthood (Seaman 1 2). Then in 1984, Congress was influenced by Mothers Against Drunk Driving to pass a law that combined compliance of the states with federal aid highway funds in exchange for the members support; forcing the states to raise the drinking age to twenty one. There is no doubt that the law, which achieved full 50 state compliance in 1988, saved lives, but it had the unintended consequence of creating a covert culture around alcohol as the ... Jazz and the Blues were the most common and well known types of music, which could have sometimes been involved in the types of dancing that happened in the Roaring 20s. The type of music that we call jazz was a great turning point between the whites and the African Americans who were segregated. It lessened the amount of segregation between the two races and brought people of all races together no matter what color they were. The music helped people that were in need of jobs and the main places that were affected were New York and Chicago. An important figure in the history of jazz was Louis Armstrong who played the trumpet and cornet to play his music. Along with jazz, the blues was a type of music that was inspired by the African Americans of that time. The African Americans that started the blues were in churches or either in hollers working in the fields. They would sing these songs as they worked hard on the long days on the farm. The blues first started from the African Americans located in the Mississippi Delta. There were many different types of dances that are still being used today even though it was made about a hundred years ago. Through faith, they had grown close enough to consider one another family. Consequently, family is another prevalent theme in La Amistad. According to Soccer Ball World, higher air pressure correlates to further travel. Gravity, to be more specific the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon. The best way to understand how the tides work is first acknowledging the relationship between the rotation of the earth with the Moon and Sun. As we know the Earth spins on an axis, the water on earth is kept at equal levels all around the planet by a combination of gravity pulling inward and centrifugal force pushing outward. Just the Moon s gravitational forces alone are strong enough to interrupt this balance by speeding pushing the water towards the Moon. This makes the water to swell. Lao Tzu started this, he lived a little before Confucius, about 600 BC. Tao means the path or way . Lao Tzu worked as a a record keeper. He believed that happiness was for people to just go with the flow , meaning to let things go about on their own rather than forcing the situations. According to Confucius, each person should act with virtue in all social matters; family, community, state, and kingdom, to ensure unity. Lao Tzu thought it was extremely wrong for people to fight in wars. He was also extremely against a government making up rules and regulations on how people should do things in their life. Taoism is against anything with certain regulations, even a food diet. Lao Tzu thinks people should make their own decisions in situations that they experience in life. To follow Taoism is to understand who you are yourself and everything else will come naturally. By doing nothing one could accomplish everything. Don t go against what you have been faced, instead go through it and learn from it, and never force anything because by doing that, you are not doing anything good for yourself. Doyle displays this power of choice through vivid descriptions of two animals: a hummingbird and a blue whale, two seemingly different organisms. However, instead of focusing on the obvious disparities of the animals, Doyle concentrates on what makes them similar, the heart. Both the hummingbird and blue whale have hearts, but they use their hearts in drastically different ways, one heart being the smallest and another being the largest in the world. Contrary to the beliefs of science and evolution, Doyle believes that humans are not so different from these two creatures, because, no living being is without interior liquid motion. We all churn inside (3). Suddenly, the essay transforms from a National Geographic journal to a heartfelt message that connects all of the humanrace. Doyle dives into how the heart experiences so many emotions and ideas throughout a human life. Knowing that the heart is a delicate jewel, Doyle demonstrates that, all hearts finally are bruised and scarred, scored and torn, repaired by time and will, patched by force of character, yet fragile and rickety forevermore (3). • 32. Aristotle s Tragic Hero in Shakespeare s Macbeth Essay... Aristotle s Tragic Hero in Macbeth Aristotle and Shakespeare lived ages apart, but Aristotle had a great affect on Shakespeare s plays. In Shakespeare s tragic play, Macbeth, the character of Macbeth is consistent with Aristotle s definition of the tragic hero. Aristotle s tragic hero is a man who is characterized by good and evil. He is a mixture of good characteristics and bad characteristics. For example, Macbeth was an honorable Thane of Glamis. He was a valiant fighter who had protected his country of Scotland well, but he wanted to be king. His vaulting ambition caused him to kill King Duncan which ended up in his fall. Aristotle s tragic hero has a tragic flaw, or harmatia, that is the cause of the downfall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even before he reaches his home, thoughts of murder creep into his head and he is overcome with the desire to be powerful. Stars, hide your fires, let not light see my black and deep desires, the eye wink at the hand. Yet let that be, which the eye fears when it is done to see (Shakespeare21). At this point in the play, Macbeth s ambition starts to come into view. The seed has been planted, and there is no turning back. Macbeth becomes bloodthirsty and powerstricken forcing himself further and further into a web of ambition from which he is unable to detatch himself. Macbeth s ambition is what allowed him to become powerful. Without ambition, it is impossible to achieve goals. Therefore, ambition is what allowed Macbeth to overcome his obstacles and come closer to his final goals. As soon as he developed the trait of vaulting ambition, Macbeth is able to make his life fall into place exactly the way he wants it to. He first murders Duncan so that he will become king. Macbeth s ambition is directly the cause of this tragic incident. Reflective Reflection The British Association of Occupational Therapists (2007) states that reflective practice is fundamental in continuing professional development (CPD) in order to keep skills and knowledge up to date and to practice effectively, safely and legally (Health and Care Professions Council, 2012). Reflection is vital for all healthcare students in order to establish links between theory and practice (Jasper, 2013), that will help increase clinical reasoning and enhance professional practice (Rigby et al., 2012). Using models of reflective thinking makes sure that reflectionsare meaningful to our personal CPD (Armitage et al., 2012). Models of reflective thinking are designed to aid us reflectively. Each models varies in how much information, description, evaluation and critical analysis are needed. The most commonly used models in healthcare are; Gibbs, Kolb and Borton. In order to choose a reflective model an individual must firstly know what they want to achieve and how in depth they want to go with their reflection (Jasper, 2013). For this reflection I have chosen Gibbs (1988) model to help me understand my role, actions and behaviours throughout my group work sessions with my Personal Professional Development (PPD) group and explore and evaluate the interactions with the multi disciplinary team (MDT) during the research of a patient care pathway. But how do we know where the species originate? Phylogenies help to show us how all kinds of species are related to each other, and why. These relationships are put into what can be called a cladogram, which links species to common ancestors, in turn showing where, when, how, and why these ancestors diverged to form new species. Without phylogenies, it would be extremely difficult to put species in specific categories or relate them to one another. Along with phylogenies can come conflict on which species should be related to one another. This conflict causes many hypotheses and experiments, which can lead to phylogenetic retrofitting,... Bayesian inferences support this parareptile conclusion, but parsimony concludes the idea of turtles being a sister group to pareiasaurs, which is an anapsid group, including Eunotosaurus. To test these hypothesis, a multitude of data is compiled to observe the stability behind the inferences made. In this article, one main experiment was discussed through the collection and analysis of two retrofitted matrices, phylogenetic analyses, and molecular scaffolds. In one matrice, Eunotosaurus was added to a diapsid focused data set, while turtles were added to an anapsid focused data set. The diapsid sets included a broad sampling of diapsids, which placed turtles as sisters to sauropterygians. The anapsid set, on the other hand, included a broad sampling of anapsids, especially parareptiles. Turtles were not included in the anapsid set. When the experiment moves on to the phylogenetic analysis, Bayesian inferences and parsimony were brought into the mix. After these analyses, the experiment finally includes molecular scaffolding. The effect of molecular scaffolding was to see where extant linneages interact with molecular phylogenies.
