U.s. Involvement During The Persian Gulf War

U.S. Involvement in 1st Persian Gulf War
One of the good things about the way the Gulf War ended in 1991 is, you d see the Vietnam veterans
marching with the Gulf War veterans (George H. W. Bush). President Bush stated that the Persian Gulf
War was not fully supported by the soldiers who fought in the war. Gulf War veterans marched like
Vietnam veterans because they also viewed the war as unjustified. Persian Gulf War veterans would
say, American soldiers lost their lives for oil. The first Persian Gulf War started from August 2, 1990
and ended on February 28, 1991. This war began by the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. During this
invasion some of the oil fields of Kuwait were set on fire and some of the oil spilled to the Persian
Gulf. The Persian Gulf was the oil supplier for western countries. So anything happened to the Persian
Gulf, the western countries will naturally react. The factors that led to The United States involvement
in the first Persian Gulf War included Saddam Hussein s invasion of Kuwait, his control over a sizable
share of the world s oil reserves and his power over the economies of the world. Many Americans
believe that the first Persian Gulf War was not necessary for the United States.
On August 2, 1990, Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, attacked Kuwait as a result of overproduction of oil
in Kuwait, which had cost Iraq an estimated $14 billion a year when oil process of obtaining the

The Central Park Five Is A Documentary By Ken Burns About
The Central Park Five is a documentary by Ken Burns about five young black men who were
wrongfully convicted of a crime they did not commit. This documentary focused on showing how
these boys got convicted, why they got convicted, the effects and response from the public of their
convictions, and their release. For the remaining part of my paper, I am going to show how the
sociological theoretical perspectives, in particular the conflict perspective, explains why the events in
the film happened the way they did. The three major parts of the conflict theory that I am going to be
focusing on relates to how the people with wealth and power has a major influence in society and how
they went about abusing that power that was given to them. I am ... Show more content on

They had already set their mind that these boys committed the crime and used their power to make the
boys tell them what they wanted to hear. They used their power to hold the boys at the police station
until they confessed . The boys did not know of their rights that they had and were detained for a long
period of time until they were made to believe that if they were to confess, they could go home.
Another way that criminal law was used to control the working class in the documentary is with bail.
If someone has money, they can pay for a temporary release from jail. In the film, two boys were able
to be released on bail, but three of the boys families weren t able to come up the money, so they had to
stay in jail. It is clear that if someone is of the working class, it would be difficult for them to come up
with the money because of financial issues. If someone was rich, they would be able to pay the bail or
fine without having to worry about providing food on the table or paying bills. Because of this, it
seems like these criminal laws are set up to benefit those who are wealthy and weed out those that are
poor. Those associated with the lower class are usually associated with crime and violence and
because of that, these criminal laws are targeted towards a group of people who are at a disadvantage.
In The Central Park Five, we can see that wealthy people and the authorities hold most of the power.

Essay on The History of the Guitar
The Guitar is a stringed musical instrument with six or twelve strings that is played by either plucking
or strumming the strings. It is one of the most popular instruments in the world. If an individual were
asked to identify a guitar most people would answer the question correctly more so than they would if
they were asked about another instrument. When people think about famous guitarists, they more than
likely think of famous rock and roll guitarists and do not think about the many other famous guitarists
in other musical genres such as jazz or country. The guitar is a well known instrument that influences
many musical genres including Country. The origins of the guitar can be traced back to the Arabic
oud. The Arabic oud is stringed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Guittern was shaped like a violin, played with a pick, and had the ability to be tuned in octaves or
in unison. This tuning ability was never used in other guitar instruments. Compared to the modern day
guitar, the Guittern lacked a movable bridge and a saddle. The Guittern was also the first instrument to
use wire strings instead the traditional gut strings used in stringed instruments (Kentor Michael 4).
After the Guittern, the guitar s structure stayed the same and had little changes. One of the slightly
improved guitars was called the Ghitarra Battente. The Ghitarra Battente was the first guitarlike
instrument to use a saddle, a movable bridge, and led the trend towards metal frets (4). The Ghitarra
Battente helped the popularity of the guitar grow tremendously. This instrument somewhat slowed
down the development and improvements to the guitar until the 1500s. In the 1500s, the Vinuhela de
Mano was introduced to the world. The Vinuhela de Mano is the the largest guitar to date and set the
size for the modern guitar. This instrument had several soundholes on the top of the guitar, was played
using a pick, and used gut strings. The Vihuela de Mano resembles the modern twelve stringed guitars.
The first publication of music for the guitar was published in 1564 and was called Tres Libros de
Musica en Cifras para Vihuela. After the Vihuela de Mano, many forms of the guitar emerged that

Essay On Don Quixote
Don Quixote is considered the most influential work of literature. It has been around for more than
four hundred years. It is still being read and it is a work that is dear to many people s hearts. The story
is mainly about an older individual named Alonso Quixana who lives in La Mancha in central Spain.
After, he read thousands of book about knights he started to go insane and decides to change his name
to Don Quixote. So, when he finished all his books he started to believe that he was one. In this piece
Don Quixote experiences love, morality, law, justice and much more. But, reality and fantasy are two
major points in this story. This story is very much related in the 21st century because in society today

been going around in today s world is Dreamers those who have immigrant parents that were brought
to the United States in order to have a better life. These people s dreams have been ruining more and
more each day because there is little to no hope left in achieving those goals. An impactful quote that
was said in Don Quixote was, I do know who I am, and who is in my depth has nothing to do with
your ideas and with your expectations about me (book) What this quote is trying to tell it s audience is
that sometimes our highest most outrageous goals sometimes seem untouchable and we get scared
when other see us trying to reach that goal. The Scientific Journal of Humanistic Studies states, Being
something, someone, having an established identity is comfortable, but becoming someone is risky
(Cun 3). Having a dream isn t unhealthy or dangerous nor is being imaginative either. But, the
population tends to believe that if you are an imaginative person you are going insane. Which is not
the case, this is the reason why Don Quixote de la Mancha became such a modern character. He was
someone who desired to become someone, and to be able to metamorphose the world in a more
favorable way. At the time this book was written reality and fantasy were two completely opposite
terms, no one had ever thought to put those two together. Cervantes sure made a bold

The Themes Of Family In The Movie The Intouchables
Ohana means family . Family means noone gets left behind , is the famous quote from Lilo and Stitch
that perfectly portrays the movie The Intouchables. The theme family is shown many times in the
movie The Intouchables. It is first seen when a man, named Driss, is hired to care for a paralyzed man
and they develop a bond that cannot be broken. It is also seen between Driss and his step brother.
Although these are the main portrayals of family, it is also seen with Driss and his coworkers. The
previous relationships mentioned show family in a different way. The people in those relationships are
not blood related yet still manage to treat each other like family. Being treated like family is respecting
one another, taking care of each other, and never losing touch no matter how busy life gets. With that
being said, family does not always mean being immediate family. In the Intouchables, family is a
common theme found in multiple points of the movie.
The theme family is first shown when Driss first gets hired to work and take care of Philippe. They get
along so easily that their bond forms quickly. They adapted to one another s personalities so they can
joke about one another without someone getting hurt. The first example of their humor is when Driss
asks, Where do you find a paraplegic , where Philippe then replies, I don t know . Driss finishes by
joking, Where you leave him . This is just the beginning of the blossoming relationship between these
two. The fact that Driss did not get fired from this sketchy joke indicates that Philippe is started to
take a liking to Driss. He realizes that Driss does not make Philippe s handicappedness a roadblock,
but rather finds ways to use that and have fun with it. Since Philippe cannot feel anything from the
waist and down, Driss has a little fun asking questions like, So if you have red ears, it means you re
turned on? which leads Philippe to respond with That s it. Sometimes I even wake up with hard lobes .
They both end up laughing and the audience is able to see the progression of their bond. They are so
happy hanging out with one another. Just like in a family, you can get irritated with each other, but
never tired of one another. Finally, these two men

Squanto Last Of The Patuxet Analysis
During the Renaissance, European countries started exploring the world and colonizing new lands.
After Spain and Portugal started taking many lands, England joined the race to expend his territory.
When Europeans went to America, different tribes of natives were occupying those lands. Squanto
was one of the Indians leaving in North America. In the article Squanto: Last of the Patuxet , the
author Neal Salisbury argues that due to Squanto s unquiet adventure and his experience in both native
American and European culture, Squanto was able to help both civilization and take important
decisions. Firstly, I chose this article because I read about this native American who was captured by
the British and went to Europe where he learnt English. The book: The American story by Robert A.
Divine actually mentioned this Indian who came back to New England after he learnt English. I was
really curious on how Squanto was able to survive and comeback to his mother ... Show more content

But I think many lives would have had been saved if they were more people with both point of view
who could have tried to negotiate with them and make an alliance instead of killing each other. And
thanks to his diplomatic skills, Squanto was able to save many lives. To conclude, I think this article is
accurate and presented correctly within general enough details. People who doesn t have general
knowledge about this period of history can still fully understand the article. The author emphasis the
importance of Squanto in this period. A weakness I found on this article is that the author doesn t give
enough information on how Squanto escaped from Spain to England considering the fact that those
two countries are enemies. The author also didn t really link this time period with the Thanksgiving
celebration which was born with the Pilgrims and their encounter with the

The Philippines Of Martial Law In The Philippines
Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law in the Philippines in 1972. The implementation allowed the
military to have the highest authority in the country along with the President and allowed thousands of
Filipino s rights to be abused. It ended after 21 years when Marcos finally was ousted out of office.
Bangsa Moro refers to the 13 ethno linguistic Muslim tribes in the Philippines. They composed 1/4th
of the population in Mindanao. Though each tribe differs in traditions, culture, and dialects, they all
share the same religion of Islam. The Moro People are divided in three main groups which are the
Maguindanaons, the Tausogs and the Maranaos. Each group and tribe commonly face the struggle for
self determination. Starting from the Spanish colonization, as Christianization spread through the
country, Islamic advancement completely stopped and prejudices against Muslims began in the
Philippines. During the American colonization, they declared the entire country as independent while
annexing Mindanao. These showcase that since the beginning of Philippine history, the Moro people
have been oppressed by the different ruling bodies of the nation. The implementation of Martial Law
in 1972 worsened the situation when the military attacked Mindanao which sparked the war between
the Muslim rebels and the government. Now many Moro people are bombed out of their homes due to
the current proclamation of Martial Law in Mindanao. In the early 70s, several massacres

book into sections, which include the Dream Job and the Action Plan. Each of these two parts
encourages students to pursue a brand of success that will provide personal satisfaction and happiness
by providing useful tips for getting the most out of their time in school. In the very beginning of the

Whatever a person s passion is can translate into a job as long as the person is able to be creative. The
author reiterates how necessary it is to enjoy oneself as much as possible and it is painfully clear why
this constant reminder is necessary. Many students succumb to pressure from family and peers to
settle for stability rather than following their personal dreams. There are quotes throughout the book
from many influential and popular figures like Howard Stern, Oprah Winfrey, Marilyn Monroe, and
Jim Carrey that champion being an individual who is fearless about following a passion. By including
stories and quotations from familiar figures, Combs makes achieving a dream seem feasible to college
students who are aware that it is often much easier to succumb to fears. By outlining six common
fears, the author identifies why some people may be preventing themselves from reaching their full
potential. Action is essential to combating fear and becoming successful. Specific actions are provided
in the book to beat major fears. The author realizes how easy it is to allow a fear of failure as defined
by a 3.0 GPA hold someone back from following their dream. For this reason, the value of experiences
such as internships and study abroad over grades is extraordinarily essential to developing someone s
sense of self worth. Experiences

Research on the Logistics and Mechanisms of Attention
Attention is a mechanism directly involved in the selection, distribution and maintenance of
processing resources, which determines our ability to process complex and multiple stimuli from our
environment and is crucial to our success and survival. Given the large magnitude of visual
information we encounter every day, the existence of a selective mechanism at a conscious and
unconscious level that regulates what we pay attention to is indisputable; it has even been
conceptualized as a supramodal mechanism that distributes cognitive resources according to task
complexity and motivation (Salthouse , Rogan Prill , 1984). Initially conceived as a single spotlight
alternating amongst foci (Tiffin, Knight Jackson, 1946), attention is now understood to be beneficial
due to its capacity to divide. Nevertheless, there is a limit in scope and manner, so we are constantly
promoting the priority processing of certain information in the presence of multiple stimuli (RossellĆ³,
1999). Understanding the logistical constrains behind this prioritization and allocation of resources is
thus important from a theoretical perspective (Vergauwe et al., 2010), but also due to its practical
implications in various fields such as the military, sports, transportation, safety and education (Strayer
Johnston, 2001; Gingerich Lineweaver, 2014).
Generally, these constrains have been studied in two specific domains: space and time. Regarding
space, visual search paradigms explore how stimulus

Taking a Look at Employee Turnover
Employee turnover is an issue that at some point affects all businesses. Employees choose to leave
organizations both voluntarily and involuntarily dependent on a wide multitude of circumstances (Noe
et al., 2011). Regardless of the reason for separation, employee turnover comprises of both direct and
indirect costs that financially impact an organization. There are four basic cost categories related to
employee turnover: separation, replacement, training, and productivity (Source?). Separation costs are
expenses that are caused when employees or organizations choose to end their partnership and include
expenses such as unemployment compensation, legal settlements, extended benefits, and the cost of
conducting exit interviews. Replacement costs are the expenses required to refill the vacant position.
These costs include items such as position advertisement, recruitment costs, costs of screening and
interviewing employees, and any hiring or signing bonuses expensed to fill the open role. Training
costs include the time and effort needed from trainers, supervisors, and co workers to educate
employees. Lastly productivity costs include lower productivity of employees prior to leaving the
organization, reduced productivity and increased labor expenses of remaining employees to cover the
open positions, morale and reputation issues created by employee losses, increased error rates of new
employees, and lost knowledge and efficiency of experienced employee that leave

The Role Of Churches During The Medieval Era
During the Medieval era, countless cathedrals and churches were built as religion became popular and
widespread around Europe. Back in the Medieval period, churches gained an absurd amount of money
in various ways, such as people would travel to church to observe relics and donate to be blessed or
healed, people would buy indulgences, and people would donate their land to church when they died.
Firstly, citizens back in the Medieval era would travel to churches to see the relic or relics there or to

Consequently, Many churches were built around reliquaries to bring people in. Reliquaries hold a

Liberalism Is A Political World View
Liberalism is a political world view which was founded on the ideas of liberty, which economically
means that the government should not try to control rents, wages and to control prices but to instead
let open competition and forces of demand and supply create an equilibrium. Politically the concept is
that preservation of individual liberty and maximization of freedom should be the main aim of the
government. Liberalism states that all individuals should be equal before the law, no special privileges
for those higher up in society. Liberalism is a political and/or social philosophy promoting the
freedom of individuals in a society, parliamentary systems of government, promotes the nonviolent
change of social, economic or political institutions to ensure that it is not restricted in the development
of all spheres in human efforts and the reassurance of individual human rights. There are two main
principles of liberalism, individualism and liberty. It places the individual at the center of society and
argues that the highest social order is to be built around the individual. The purpose of society is to let
the individuals to be able to reach their full potential if that individual wants to, and to do this, is to
give the individual as much liberty as possible to reach their goal.

To begin with, this assignment is done with Kim Seo Yeon (20100472, Sociology). National
Cranberry Cooperative Case is the study done by the Harvard Business School about a process of
warehousing from the delivery and arriving of cranberry to a manufacturing in the warehouse.
National Cranberry Cooperative was an organization formed and owned by growers of cranberries to
process and markets their berries. The handling of process fruit RP1 was highly mechanized. The
process could be classified into several operations; receiving and testing, dumping, temporary holding,
destroying, dechaffing, drying separation and bulking and bagging. The objective of the total ... Show

In addition, wet bin capacity is 3,200 barrels so, according to hourly inventory increasing rate, after
passing 5.25 hours, trucks should wait to unload berries. Moreover, overworks should be done for 22.2
hours because workers should dry 13,300 barrels of the berries, but the drying capacity is only 600
barrel per hour besides the arrival rate is 1,210 barrels per hour.
To solve this problem, I would recommend to add dryers ($25,000 per each and capacity increases 200
barrels per each) or wet bins ($5,000 per each and capacity increases 250 barrels per each) for short
term. We can suggest three options to solve this matter. First, we can add no dryers but convert 15
bins. Second, we can add a dryer and convert 6 bins too. Third, we can add 2 dryers, not to convert
any bins. As first option, we need only additional cost of $75,000, which is calculated by $5,000 x 15
bins. By practicing first option, the wet bin storage increases to 6,950, so we can cover all the arrivals
of the berries this is done for not to make trucks to wait. In the second option, when we add a dryer,
we can handle 800 barrels per hour in drying process and we can reduce the overworking time from
22.2 hour to 16.6 hour. (13,300 barrel / 800 barrel equals to 16.6 hours per a day) We can estimate
overtime saved cost and it is closely related to labor cost. Labor cost

Carl Freud And Freud s Three Stages Of Development
The third stage of development in Freudian theory is the Phallic stage , which starts at the age of three
and goes on until the age of six. During this particular stage according to Freud, children are said to
take pleasure in their genitals and they also struggle with sexual desires, especially strong desires
towards their opposite sex parent (girl desiring her father and boy desiring his mother). This kind of
behavior in boys is called as Oedipus complex , which according to Freud means that the boys during
this stage desire their mother and want to replace their fathers, who are seen to be seeking the mother s
attention, because of this desire the boy is afraid that his father might find out and punish the boy by
the process of castration(cutting off the penis) due to which they may develop castration anxiety. And
the same desire called Electra complex which is the desire developed in girls for their fathers and in
the thought of replacing their mothers is discussed during later on by Carl Jung. This stage helps in the
development of Superego in life. The fourth stage of development according to Freudian theory is the
Latency stage , which starts at age six and continued until puberty or twelve years of age. During this
particular stage, the child s sexual desires than to subside and they start to additionally develop their
conscience or superego. They begin to act and behave socially accepted by learning appropriate values
from their parents or caregivers as their sex instincts are sublimated into hobbies, school activities, and
sports and they also start focusing on developing and maintaining same sex friendships amongst their
groups. The fifth and last stage of development according to the Freudian theory is the Genital stage ,
which starts from puberty to adulthood. During this particular stage, the sexual desire re emerges if
every stage was developed correctly. In this stage, adolescents join in appropriate sexual behavior with
their partners and develop a secure relationship which can later lead to lifelong commitment, marriage
and focus more on reproducing their future offsprings through sexual intercourse. During this stage,
individuals find satisfaction in their work and love. In order

North Country By Niki Caro
Films reflect all aspects of life, like the depiction of law in society. This much is true in the 2005 film
North Country , directed by Niki Caro, based on a fictionalized interpretation of the first historic class
action sexual harassment lawsuit in the United States, Jenson v Eveleth Mines. The film focuses on
the main character Josie, a single mom to two children, trapped by her abusive husband and the lack
of decent paying jobs for women so she could support her family. Josie escapes, going back to her
hometown in the rural part of Northern Minnesota, but the only way to support her family was to go to
work in the iron mines. Even though the mines had been hiring women for years, male employees still
outnumbered females when Josie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finding three plaintiffs with similar grievances proved to be difficult, since a lot of the female mine
workers relied heavily on their jobs. In the end, Josie s true character shines through, attracting
multiple plaintiffs to her case and a victorious win. One way this movie reflects the law in society is
by illustrating the difference between law on the books and law in action. Those in favor of the Civil
Rights Act of 1964, which is intended to eliminate discrimination based on characteristics like sex,
argued that laws protecting women from unpleasant jobs were...designed to enable men to monopolize
those jobs (CITE REP MARTHA GRIFFINS), which discriminated against women who were not
allowed to apply for these jobs. It wasn t until 1975, nearly eleven years after this act passed, that the
Northern Minnesota Iron Mines even hired their first female miner. From that point, it seems as if the
unconstitutional discrimination against female miner worsened to the point where men were still
outnumbering female miners 30 to 1. Not only were the female miners outnumbered but they were put
it lower level positions as opposed to their male counterparts, making the mines as Sterling and
Reichman would put it, a gendered organization (CITE). A gendered organization that promotes
discrimination against its female employees because it makes no effort to include them in

What Does Freedom Mean To Be Free Essay
Freedom or liberty as a political concept remains a trouble some notion which continues to be widely
disputed. Historically, being free did not refer only to a legal status, but also to a set of character
virtues one possesses in becoming a man free of limitations. Within the discourse, there is a general
consensus that freedom is contrary to that of constraint. Hence freedom can be thought of as being
free from any restraint in pursuing one s desires or choices. Philisophers within the literature of liberty
frequently frame their discussion of freedom in terms of the negative and positive distinction. In this
essay, discussion will be given to the positive conception of freedom. Positive liberty is a theory that
defines freedom as the power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Berlin argues that, freedom is more than the absence of interference, limitation or
impediment (Berlin 1969) . Such notion is supported by Rousseau as he equates positive freedom to
self mastery or the capacity to exercise control of oneself through self legislation (Berlin 1969) . This
framework concerning freedom to achieve one s goals relates to the concept of structure and agency.
To gain the status as a free agent, a person should be liberated from societal conditions in carrying out
their free will. In order to attain such status , one must identify the source of control or interference
that determines what someone can do, or be (Simhony 1993). Such control can be thought of as
authority attained through self government; a requirement for true freedom. As Mill argues, freedom
of expression matters not just because it enabled the discovery of the truth, but it is necessary for
people to develop their individuality (Mill 1859). Evidently, the theory of calling individual self
direction as freedom, emphasises the overriding importance of one particular kind of desire to decide
for oneself what one shall

Analysis Of Blade Runner
Blade Runner: what makes a Human?
Blade Runner is a 1982 film directed by Ridley Scott. It is a loose adaptation of Do Androids Dream
of Electric Sheep? written by Philip K. Dick. It has spawned a loyal following of fans and is seen as a
cult classic by many people. The film has inspired a lot of popular culture in movies, anime and video
games (Hills, 2011). The films cult popularity is so great that it even received theatrical rereleases
with additional scenes in 1992 ( Director s Cut ), 2007 ( Final Cut ) and a sequel in 2017.
The academic side of the film industry has given plenty of attention to this film too. There are
hundreds of articles written about it. For instance, a few articles in the Alien Zone (Kuhn ed., 1990)
mentioned this famous film and base their arguments on it. And there are certainly reasons why. Blade
Runner touches upon a variety of interesting subject and exhibits rich metaphors and symbolism. The
most engaging subject of the film, for me at least, seems to be the question of how human are
replicants. One of the best examples discussing this question is the scene in which Rick Deckard
meats Rachael and administers to her a Voight Kampff Test. The Final Cut version of the film will be
used in this analysis.
The scene is set after Deckard has been given the case of the rogue replicants. His Boss suggests
visiting the Tyrell Corporation to learn if Voight Kampff test will work on the hunted replicants as this
is the organization that builds the

The comparison of internal and external conflicts and the effect on the lives of the protagonists
Internal and external conflicts often affect a person s life as well as their families lives. Additionally, it
may lead a man to experience an epiphany about his own life. The story Blue Winds Dancing
demonstrates the internal and external struggles experienced by the native as he transitions into white
society. The native is an outcast and has a longing to return to his native reserve. In comparison, Angel
Levine describes the life of a Jewish man named Manischevitz who lost everything: his children, his
business, and his eventually his wife because of her illness. He reaches out to God, but there is no
response, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Angel Levine , Manischevitz struggles with his surroundings. He lost everything, including his
children and his establishment because it catches fire and then burn[s] to the ground (Malamud). He
now must support the family financially and take care of his ill wife, Fanny. Another large external
issue that Manischevitz faces is the ability to trust the black angel. He thinks [he] is a faker because
God would not send a black angel. However, God sent him this black angel as a test of his faith and
after he wavers, he returns to God. Throughout these tests of faith, he experiences an epiphany,
understanding that there are Jews everywhere (Malamud). Similarly, the native also has an external
conflict; he cannot get home after he realizes that he does not want to acculturate into the white
society. He tries to return home by dangerously hitchhiking onto the Santa Fe train. When he finally
leaps onto the cattle car, the native feels peaceful and content at last because he is going home
(Whitecloud). However, once the native finally arrives home, he faces an additional conflict; will his
family accept him. He is shivering for the dawn because he is simultaneously nervous and excited on
his journey home (Whitecloud). The story concludes with his family welcoming him back into the
native world.

Prostate cancer refers to the malignant growth of glandular cells located in the prostate. Under normal
circumstances these cells sit in the glands which are responsible for the production of fluids that make
up most of the semen in males [2]. However once these cells lose their control, what happens is that
they will keep on growing until they become cancerous [2]. Ultimately this means that the natural
surrounding layers that did act like barriers for these cells are now broken and therefore allows the
spread of these malignant cells to other organs within the body, particularly the bones and lymph
nodes [2]. When this does take place the risk of death also increases. At the age of 85, a man is said to
have a 1 in 5 chances of developing prostate cancer sometime in their life. The risk is said to double if
a male has a first degree relative who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Clinical features: Symptoms and signs
Every human body is slightly different in their own way and because of this reason there are people
who do not experience symptoms of prostate cancer [3]. Unfortunately Prostate cancer is a disease
that does not give any warning signs when it is growing. In most cases a male with prostate cancer

Alexander IIi Of Macedonia Truly Worthy Of The Title Essay
Was Alexander III of Macedonia really worthy of the title Great or was he just a megalomaniac
conditioned into this belief by his followers? Well, if you consider his military legacy which is almost
as large as the swath of territory he conquered spanning from modern day Greece to northern India, or
the fact that his over 2,000 year old combat tactics are still being taught at military academies the
world over, I don t believe the word great would be too far from imagination. When Alexander rose to
power following the death of his father, Phillip II, his kingdom of Macedonia encompassed all of the
land that we know as modern Greece. For Alexander this was not enough. Phillip II is believed to have
prophesized s his son s ambitions with the words, My son you must find a kingdom big enough for
your ambition. Macedon is too small for you. after Alexander tamed his wild buck Bucephalas at age
10. Born around July 20th, 356 BC to King Phillip II and one of his favorite wives, Olympias,
Alexander was believed to be destined for greatness from the start. Many tall tales about his birth
origin circulated throughout and after his life including his personal claim of descent from Achilles
and Zeus. After enjoying a leisurely life as the child of a noble family, he began his tutelage under
Aristotle at the age of 13. His father, Phillip II was frequently absent from Macedonia on long
conquest campaigns that eventually unified most of the Greek cities under his rule. In his

Hidden Dangers of ADHD Medications
There are many medications that affect children s health in today s society. Doctors prescribe lots of
medication which can be avoided, when children are properly diagnosed with certain health problems.
Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has impacted many people with the danger of certain
medications which is overprescribed to all ages each year. The hidden dangers of the medications
these doctors are prescribing, is that our children are being misdiagnosed with ADHD at a very early
age, and this is causing many different side effects. Long term use of these medications can cause
severe side effects. The most commonly prescribed drugs, are Ritalin, Adderall and Concerta, which
cause children to have nervousness, appetite suppression, insomnia and increased blood pressure and
heart problems. Also pharmaceutical companies are well aware of the danger to children and adults
that these drugs may cause. The medications doctors are now prescribing are harming our children
greatly. The drug that affects our children the most is Ritalin. Doctors are providing these medications
to children even before they are properly diagnosed with ADHD. Some critics suggest that some youth
are simply immature and have a lack of discipline, which can lead to being mistakenly diagnosed.
When ADHD is properly diagnosed doctors still gravitate toward medication, when alternative
treatments are available to them. Ritalin is a drug that attack children s nervous system, and is given to

An Equally Faulted Inequality Essay
An Equally Faulted Inequality
With the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 came more than solely the independence
stated in the legal document. The Declaration brought about a component of equality unanticipated by
any signer or drafter that would soon shape the future and the mindset of many citizens. This sensation
of equality spread rapidly through the country and could be seen in different time periods throughout
American history where a group of people realized the government s failure to behave in such a way
that reflects the words of the Declaration of Independence, ...that all men are created equal... . Though
no longer a thriving feeling today due to our own natural human ability to dissolve equality in our
quest for it, this sensation, while it lasted, significantly benefitted the greater good of society.
How can one say that the sensation of equality had a negative impact on a country? Is this feeling one
that could in fact do more harm than good? One s perception of its affect depends solely on one s
place in America. The beneficiary of the feeling of equality would be those who were not comfortable
with their position in the country. By not comfortable , I refer to those who were forced to be content
with their place in the social hierarchy. I compare these citizens to a child who was told never to go
outside because of the dangerous tasks that the outside world entailed. They, as a child, could not
handle the dangers and stress and complications

College Is Not Good Memories Essay
When I think back to when I was in college, nothing but good memories comes to mind. College was
by far the best time of my life. If I could sum it up, college would be the best four year party that I will
ever attend. I remember it like it was yesterday; going to class, playing football and pretty much being
a kid, but this time mom and dad wasn t around to tell you your bedtime. Even though college was a
blast, the effects of college played a huge role in molding me to the young man I am today. By
choosing to go to college and graduate, I was able to do something nobody in my family has ever done
before, and that was play a collegiate sport. I was also able to walk away with a Bachelors of Science
Degree in Civil Engineering Technology. But every good story must come to an end, but in this case,
every great four year party must come to an end. When that party ended, I also was left with a fat bill
called student loans. If I knew as an 18 year old kid what debt I would be getting myself into, things
might have been a little different. The effect of me going to college brings me to my first love,
football. I played the game of football since I was 4th grade. It never dawned on me that one day it
would take me to college. I played four years as a strong safety for the Colorado University Pueblo
Thunderwolves, three of them as a starter. As an individual I was able to garner various all conference
and all regional awards. But all of that doesn t even come close

Observation Of Toddlers
The key to understanding children is observation. As observers, we begin to look for daily patterns in
their behavior. Once patterns of behavior are recognized, the observer can then give positive guidance
in securing the child s developmental needs.
In observing a normal newborn s behaviors and activities, reflexes play an important role. They help
to identify normal brain and nerve activity. In my observation of Baby A, she demonstrated reflexes of
rutting in finding the nipple of her bottle, sucking, head turning and grasping of my fingers. Although
she was born full term, she was quite small in stature and weight. She also showed alertness to senses
of sight, hearing, taste and touch. Of course, at first, she slept most of the time while she was in my
care, but as she aged, she became more active and alert. The key element to keeping Baby A happy
was taking care of her physical needs first...diaper changes, feeding and burping. Although she is still
very small in weight and height, she shows no sign of delayed development and is now a happy,
healthy toddler.
Children from about 1 to 2 years old are usually called toddlers. During these years, parents see
tremendous growth and change. As an observer, I was able to see a Toddler B transform from a baby
into a toddler right before my eyes.
In my observation of Toddler B, he first appeared to be a healthy little butterball. He was very loving
and secure in his surroundings. I observed that he was still breast fed. He

Examples Of A Christ Figure In One Flew Over The Cuckoo s...
Though every period of time, people often find themselves looking for a savior. While most people
turn for Jesus Christ or other religious figures, in the novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, by Ken
Kesey, the patients of a strictly run psychiatric ward turn to Randal Patrick McMurphy. Kesey uses
McMurphy to create a Christ Figure, or a character that shows allusions to Christ, in his work. Despite
being a patient, McMurphy finds a way to stand out as a Christ Figure through having his individual
thoughts and actions, rather than shrinking himself to what the ward wants him to be.
Recurringly, authors use direct relations between the new testament and their novel to show proof of a
Christ Figure. Kesey uses events like the fishing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ellis being nailed in this position that Christ was nailed in shows a direct relation to the novel and also
foreshadows to McMurphy, the Christ Figure, one day being lobotomized and taking on Ellis s traits
of immobility and helplessness. Ellis is also described as like a stuffed trophy (Kesey 16), which once
again shadows how McMurphy s story at the ward will end, sitting in the day room with his name next
to him to be used as an example, another trophy for the nurse.
Another direct relation between Jesus and McMurphy is the first time Chief Bromden, a large indian
man who has pretended to be deaf and dumb for over 15 years, speaks. When Chief speaks, he is alone
with McMurphy. McMurphy gives Chief a piece of gum, and this simple act is what gave Chief the
courage to speak. McMurphy demonstrated his ability to listen to people, and this is what truly made
Chief willing to speak to him. At the end of their conversation, Chief found himself wanting to touch
him because he s who he is. (Kesey 222) By this, we can see that Chief feels McMurphy has healed
him and listened because that is who he is. We also see the relation of healing powers through
believing that a touch can heal you from here

Why Is The Word Important Essay
Important; One of the many words that could mean everything. The meaning of that word means
differently according to kinds of people. Tracing the origin of the word would give us an idea on how
importance means when the word was first used, in other words, how the people in the Medieval times
defined the word. It will then be compared to how the word important means nowadays to see what
made the meaning change. Personal experience also contributes to how people define importance. If
you are going to ask me, I would say that a thing is important if it really is needed or essentially
necessary for us to live/survive in our lifetime.
According to Dictionary.com (n.d.), the word important is a stem from the Medieval Latin (1580 90)
word importāns, presentparticiple [sic] of importāre, to be of consequence, weigh. You could say in
other words that it means that it is being of significance or being of distinction. Based from the word s
origin, it can be assumed that people during that period say something is important if it s precious or ...

how we think and interpret things. Nowadays, the environment we are at contributes greatly to how
we define things like importance for it is another way for us to adapt.
What is most important in my life is cultivating my ability to help people be happy, and to relieve

Marshall Manson is the managing director of social media, and he gave a great presentation to us for
the business visit at Ogilvy. His background is extensive and quite impressive. The social media
department is responsible for creating campaigns for each of their clients to expand their brand. One
of the examples
Manson showed us in his presentation was the campaign he and his team created for Coca Cola. The
Islamic tradition Ramadan was the basis for this campaign. Muslims that celebrate Ramadan usually
work a half a day, get off early and go home and have a celebration. So Manson and his team came up
with a campaign that would benefit from the Ramadan tradition. Their strategy was to show the heart
wrenching ad in the afternoon when most Muslims were in their homes watching television or on the
internet. When he told us the story behind this campaign and how much work went into it, I was
instantly hooked. This is exactly what I want to do. Work on campaigns, ads, and work with a team
that would challenge my creativity. Manson was great at presenting the information. He gave us tips
on how to get into the PR field. Before Manson joined Ogilvy he worked for Edelman. Marshall
worked in U.S. political campaigns and for several communications firms also. He is an asset to any
company he represents.

The Discovery Of The New World
The discovery of the New World brought many irreversible changes not only for the European
countries, but to the natives of the land that was being discovered. The sense of exploration began
expanding more and more among the European powers. Every time the explorers invaded, they would
be more avaricious and aggressive against the natives of the land. Along with diseases and inhumane
treatments, the European powers also brought education to the uneducated crowds of areas such as
India, Africa, and China. The main intention of the foreign powers was to Europeanize the natives of
these lands and enslave them into doing the European s dirty work. To attain such results, the
Europeans tried converting the natives lifestyles completely. These conversions ranged from
substituting the natives religion with Christianity, to the way they labored, and to the way they
portrayed themselves. All the changes the natives had to go through, are clearly seen in excerpts of
Feng Guifen, Afghani, and Gandhi. Each of these men describe the different aspects changed by the
Europeans, for instance Feng Guifen describes the education system brought by the Europeans and
how that affected Asia. Afghani describes the input of science in Islam, while Gandhi describes the
cold heartedness that has spread among the natives and how they have become civilized. The
emergence of the European powers on territories such as Asia became visible especially in education.

the military tradition of his father, in 1825 Lee entered West Point and graduated second in his class in
1829, without getting single demerit in his four years there. Serving several military positions in
Georgia, Virginia, New York, Texas, and Mexico. Over the next 23 years, his reputation as a strong

the Department of Texas the largest number of troops he had ever commanded. Lee had to evaluate his
position as a Whig devoted to the Union and as a Virginian. At this point, he did not agree with the
political and economic arguments for Southern independence. Though, unfortunate as the choice was,
if pressed to choose between fighting for Virginia or for the Union, Lee realized the decision would be
simple. Lee s loyalties proved to be on the side of the South because of his family tradition in and
association with the state of Virginia.

The Aggression Scale Movie
Aggression scale is a film about trauma. Specifically, coping with trauma by using anger. An unjust
event shattered Owen and Lauren s lives. Mobsters are coming to reclaim money stolen by their father
and kill the family for the father s sins. When the mobsters arrive Lauren in the shower and Owen is
already scheming a plan of attack. What the mobsters do not know is that Owen has a diagnosed
behavioral problem. Aggression.
The trauma we act out is guided our place in ideological systems. Gender interprets our trauma in
terms of weakness and power. Masculinity teaches trains boys that manliness is defined by toleration
of pain. A boy proves manhood by taking more pain then the next guy. But if a boy flinch s or is

What does set him apart from traditional slashers is his enjoyment of violence. While the film justifies
Owen s violence as vengeance against home invaders and attacks by bullies this does not tell the

about her history is the scars on her wrists. Some unknown event has rattled its way into her brain. In
all likelihood, she was the victim of someone s whims or dealt a bad hand of genetics. Whatever is the
cause of Laurens tragedy, she directs her aggression inwards. Internalizing the aggressor and re
victimizing herself.
The scene about midway through the film where Lauren respectively stabs one of the mobsters is

screams while she repetitively stabs the mobster. From her depths, something larger than the violence
is bellowing. The opposite of relief. Lauren is crossing a line from victim to something

The Meaning Of Life By Julian Baggini
When people invest an abundant amount of time in a task, whether it be trivial and mundane like
finishing the laundry, or important and time consuming like attaining a degree, they tend to want to be
validated that they are spending their time in a meaningful way. Philosophers are often sought out for
their wisdom and to answer the deep and mind bending questions common people don t intensely
ponder. Though what the meaning of life is seems to be unique to each individual, when a philosopher
asserts they have revelated the meaning of life, it is imperative to investigate their claims. In an article
entitled Revealed the meaning of life, philosopher Julian Baggini claims he knows the answer to one
of life s most burning question, what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate his line of thinking relating to these concepts, he compares the pondering of life to a
Celine Dion concert. He explains Compare that to a more mundane question, such as why on earth
you are sitting in the front row waiting for a Celine Dion concert to begin. One answer is because you
bought a ticket, took a train and then your seat. That explains why you re there in a backward looking
way. Another answer is that you re there because you want to hear Dion sing, which explains your
presence in a forward looking (though somewhat baffling) way. The moral of this extended yet
amusing metaphor is that the answer one is searching for dictates the approach they implement to find
said answer. Both methods, contemplating the future and the past, are still majorly flawed, as neither
looking forwards nor backwards truly give the answer to the meaning of a person s life or why they
are on earth.
While looking at one s ancestry and roots reveals where a person is originated from and the route that
lead them to where they are today, it does not necessarily reveal the reasoning as to why they are in
their current reality. Baggini explains this by stating, It is perhaps surprising how often it is assumed
that a look back to our origins will lead us to the meaning of life . . . if we take a long, cold look back
to our origins, we just find ape like ancestors and an evolutionary trail that leads back to the big bang.

Mice of Men Dreams of Commitment
Of Mice and Mein The Dream of Commitment. Louis Owens The Eden myth looms large in Of Mice
and Men (1937), the playnovella set along the Salinas River a few miles south of Soledad (Of Mice
and Men, p. 1). And, as in all of Steinbeck s Califomia fiction, setting plays a central role in
determining the major themes of this work. The fact that the setting for OfMice and Men is a
Califomia valley dictates, according to the symbolism of Steinbeck s landscapes, that this story will
take place in a fallen world and that the quest for the illusive and illusory American Eden will be of
central thematic significance. In no other work does Steinbeck demonstrate greater skill in merging
the real setting of his native country with the thematic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
146 Critical Insights George and Lennie achieve all of this dream that is possible in the real world:
they are their brother s keeper. Unlike the solitary Cain and the solitary men who inhabit the novel,
they have someone who cares. The dream ofthe farm merely symbolizes their deep mutual
commitment, a commitment that is immediately sensed by the other characters in the novel. The ranch
owner is suspicious ofthe relationship, protesting, I never seen one guy take so much trouble for
another guy. Slim, the godlike jerkline skinner, admires the relationship and says, Ain t many guys
travel around together I don t know why. Maybe everybody in the whole damn world is scared of each
other. Candy, the onehanded swamper, and Crooks, the deformed black stablehand, also sense the
unique commitment between the two laborers, and in their moment of unity Candy and Crooks tum as
one to defend Lennie from the threat posed by Curley s wife. The influence of George and Lennie s
mutual commitment, and of their dream, has for an instant made these crippled sons of Cain their
brother s keepers and broken the grip of loneliness and solitude in which they exist. Lennie s yeaming
for the rabbits and for all soft, living things symbolizes the yeaming all men have for warm, living
contact. It is this yeaming, described by Steinbeck as the inarticulate and powerftjl yeaming of all

How Did Winston Churchill Shaped Europe
Everything has a history, and Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill played one of the biggest in
Europe s. Born November 30, 1874 in Oxfordshire, England he experienced a tough childhood, but no
doubt did he prosper to do great things for his country. At a time of chaos during World War II,
Winston Churchill brought strategic ideas and courage to defeat one of Europe s greatest, yet worst
leaders, Adolf Hitler. Churchill was a british statesman, army officer, writer, and served as Prime
Minister for the United Kingdom from 1940 1945 and then again from 1951 1955. Winston Churchill
shaped Europe s history and brought them all to victory. As a young child he suffered from a
neglectful childhood, but maintained a close relationship with his nurse, ... Show more content on

Churchill did not approve of this and had even proposed that Britain preempt German aggression by
unilaterally occupying Norwegian iron mines and sea ports. Neville did not listen and Germany
invaded and occupied Norway. During May of that year Parliament had a debate concerning Neville
Chamberlain and his capabilities since the Norway crisis. The people of the United Kingdom were
becoming scared, Germany was invading and taking over territory after territory in Europe. Something
had to be done or they would be next just like everyone else. After the debate on what action to take
concerning Chamberlain, King George VI appointed Sir Winston Churchill as Prime Minister and
minister of defense. People were whispering and talking of Winston being back. In ways it seemed to
have brought the people hope for their country s future. At first Churchill did not see the threat of
Adolf Hitler in the 1930 s, but around 1938 when Germany began seizing control of their neighbors he
saw Hitler for who he really was. With the people of Great Britain being concerned and scared for
their country, Churchill knew that they would need to know it would not be

When they grow older, they are able to use words to express emotions. Their expression of emotion
can be positive or negative. Positive emotions enable relationships to form, while negative emotions
lead to difficulty in social relationships.

young children, adults can create a culture of caring in the early childhood environment by helping
children understand the feelings of others is an integral aspect of the curriculum of living together.

Greek and Roman civilizations
Introduction Throughout history there have been many great empires, but none have made a greater
impact than the Greek and Roman empires. These empires began as small city states, and grew to
become the powerful empires we know today. The Greek and Roman empires were not always
enemies, considering the Romans were greatly influenced by the Greek culture. The two civilizations
shared many similarities, but had different opinions on government operations. There are three
different periods that span the history of the Greek and Roman empires; the Hellenic, Hellenistic, and
Roman civilization. I will thoroughly examine the differences in religion, philosophy, societal
struggles, territory expansion, trade, commerce and the decline of each ... Show more content on

The people flowed smoothly throughout the Hellenistic kingdoms mainly because they spoke and read
the same language. No matter where a person came from in the Hellenistic regions, they were able to
communicate with anyone. Even with everyone connected there was still social disorder due to the
sudden change in government policy. People were actively involved the self governed democratic
government of the past. Now that citizens were once again living in impersonal empires ruled by
bureaucrats, they started to feel alienated. The Hellenistic art and literature expressed the feelings of
the citizens. They began to sculpt and paint actual people as opposed to the gods their culture was so
centered around. The citizens also began to join random religions that promised immortality and
individual wealth. Even Hellenistic philosophers focused their time on preaching about individual
happiness and pleasure. The Hellenistic period was an age ruled by commercialism and
cosmopolitanism. The Hellenistic age ended at the Romans feet when the Roman Octavian defeated
marc Anthony in the battle at Actium.
Roman Empire The Roman history began with two demi gods known as Romulus and Remus.
Romulus and Remus were the twin sons of Mars, the god of war. Roman history states that Romulus
eventually killed his brother Remus and was the first king of Rome, named after himself. As Rome
continued to develop it lost its monarchy style government in 509 B.C.E and developed

  • 2. U.s. Involvement During The Persian Gulf War .Mohammadamin Montazer Mr. Kanna U.S. History, period 1 29 May 2015 U.S. Involvement in 1st Persian Gulf War One of the good things about the way the Gulf War ended in 1991 is, you d see the Vietnam veterans marching with the Gulf War veterans (George H. W. Bush). President Bush stated that the Persian Gulf War was not fully supported by the soldiers who fought in the war. Gulf War veterans marched like Vietnam veterans because they also viewed the war as unjustified. Persian Gulf War veterans would say, American soldiers lost their lives for oil. The first Persian Gulf War started from August 2, 1990 and ended on February 28, 1991. This war began by the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. During this invasion some of the oil fields of Kuwait were set on fire and some of the oil spilled to the Persian Gulf. The Persian Gulf was the oil supplier for western countries. So anything happened to the Persian Gulf, the western countries will naturally react. The factors that led to The United States involvement in the first Persian Gulf War included Saddam Hussein s invasion of Kuwait, his control over a sizable share of the world s oil reserves and his power over the economies of the world. Many Americans believe that the first Persian Gulf War was not necessary for the United States. On August 2, 1990, Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, attacked Kuwait as a result of overproduction of oil in Kuwait, which had cost Iraq an estimated $14 billion a year when oil process of obtaining the ... • 3. The Central Park Five Is A Documentary By Ken Burns About The Central Park Five is a documentary by Ken Burns about five young black men who were wrongfully convicted of a crime they did not commit. This documentary focused on showing how these boys got convicted, why they got convicted, the effects and response from the public of their convictions, and their release. For the remaining part of my paper, I am going to show how the sociological theoretical perspectives, in particular the conflict perspective, explains why the events in the film happened the way they did. The three major parts of the conflict theory that I am going to be focusing on relates to how the people with wealth and power has a major influence in society and how they went about abusing that power that was given to them. I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They had already set their mind that these boys committed the crime and used their power to make the boys tell them what they wanted to hear. They used their power to hold the boys at the police station until they confessed . The boys did not know of their rights that they had and were detained for a long period of time until they were made to believe that if they were to confess, they could go home. Another way that criminal law was used to control the working class in the documentary is with bail. If someone has money, they can pay for a temporary release from jail. In the film, two boys were able to be released on bail, but three of the boys families weren t able to come up the money, so they had to stay in jail. It is clear that if someone is of the working class, it would be difficult for them to come up with the money because of financial issues. If someone was rich, they would be able to pay the bail or fine without having to worry about providing food on the table or paying bills. Because of this, it seems like these criminal laws are set up to benefit those who are wealthy and weed out those that are poor. Those associated with the lower class are usually associated with crime and violence and because of that, these criminal laws are targeted towards a group of people who are at a disadvantage. In The Central Park Five, we can see that wealthy people and the authorities hold most of the power. The people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Essay on The History of the Guitar The Guitar is a stringed musical instrument with six or twelve strings that is played by either plucking or strumming the strings. It is one of the most popular instruments in the world. If an individual were asked to identify a guitar most people would answer the question correctly more so than they would if they were asked about another instrument. When people think about famous guitarists, they more than likely think of famous rock and roll guitarists and do not think about the many other famous guitarists in other musical genres such as jazz or country. The guitar is a well known instrument that influences many musical genres including Country. The origins of the guitar can be traced back to the Arabic oud. The Arabic oud is stringed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Guittern was shaped like a violin, played with a pick, and had the ability to be tuned in octaves or in unison. This tuning ability was never used in other guitar instruments. Compared to the modern day guitar, the Guittern lacked a movable bridge and a saddle. The Guittern was also the first instrument to use wire strings instead the traditional gut strings used in stringed instruments (Kentor Michael 4). After the Guittern, the guitar s structure stayed the same and had little changes. One of the slightly improved guitars was called the Ghitarra Battente. The Ghitarra Battente was the first guitarlike instrument to use a saddle, a movable bridge, and led the trend towards metal frets (4). The Ghitarra Battente helped the popularity of the guitar grow tremendously. This instrument somewhat slowed down the development and improvements to the guitar until the 1500s. In the 1500s, the Vinuhela de Mano was introduced to the world. The Vinuhela de Mano is the the largest guitar to date and set the size for the modern guitar. This instrument had several soundholes on the top of the guitar, was played using a pick, and used gut strings. The Vihuela de Mano resembles the modern twelve stringed guitars. The first publication of music for the guitar was published in 1564 and was called Tres Libros de Musica en Cifras para Vihuela. After the Vihuela de Mano, many forms of the guitar emerged that improved the structure of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On Don Quixote Don Quixote is considered the most influential work of literature. It has been around for more than four hundred years. It is still being read and it is a work that is dear to many people s hearts. The story is mainly about an older individual named Alonso Quixana who lives in La Mancha in central Spain. After, he read thousands of book about knights he started to go insane and decides to change his name to Don Quixote. So, when he finished all his books he started to believe that he was one. In this piece Don Quixote experiences love, morality, law, justice and much more. But, reality and fantasy are two major points in this story. Especially those who grew up not knowing how there life would turn out to be. A conflict that has been going around in today s world is Dreamers those who have immigrant parents that were brought to the United States in order to have a better life. These people s dreams have been ruining more and more each day because there is little to no hope left in achieving those goals. An impactful quote that was said in Don Quixote was, I do know who I am, and who is in my depth has nothing to do with your ideas and with your expectations about me (book) What this quote is trying to tell it s audience is that sometimes our highest most outrageous goals sometimes seem untouchable and we get scared when other see us trying to reach that goal. The Scientific Journal of Humanistic Studies states, Being something, someone, having an established identity is comfortable, but becoming someone is risky (Cun 3). Having a dream isn t unhealthy or dangerous nor is being imaginative either. But, the population tends to believe that if you are an imaginative person you are going insane. Which is not the case, this is the reason why Don Quixote de la Mancha became such a modern character. He was someone who desired to become someone, and to be able to metamorphose the world in a more favorable way. At the time this book was written reality and fantasy were two completely opposite terms, no one had ever thought to put those two together. Cervantes sure made a bold ... • 7. The Themes Of Family In The Movie The Intouchables Ohana means family . Family means noone gets left behind , is the famous quote from Lilo and Stitch that perfectly portrays the movie The Intouchables. The theme family is shown many times in the movie The Intouchables. It is first seen when a man, named Driss, is hired to care for a paralyzed man and they develop a bond that cannot be broken. It is also seen between Driss and his step brother. Although these are the main portrayals of family, it is also seen with Driss and his coworkers. The previous relationships mentioned show family in a different way. The people in those relationships are not blood related yet still manage to treat each other like family. Being treated like family is respecting one another, taking care of each other, and never losing touch no matter how busy life gets. With that being said, family does not always mean being immediate family. In the Intouchables, family is a common theme found in multiple points of the movie. The theme family is first shown when Driss first gets hired to work and take care of Philippe. They get along so easily that their bond forms quickly. They adapted to one another s personalities so they can joke about one another without someone getting hurt. The first example of their humor is when Driss asks, Where do you find a paraplegic , where Philippe then replies, I don t know . Driss finishes by joking, Where you leave him . This is just the beginning of the blossoming relationship between these two. The fact that Driss did not get fired from this sketchy joke indicates that Philippe is started to take a liking to Driss. He realizes that Driss does not make Philippe s handicappedness a roadblock, but rather finds ways to use that and have fun with it. Since Philippe cannot feel anything from the waist and down, Driss has a little fun asking questions like, So if you have red ears, it means you re turned on? which leads Philippe to respond with That s it. Sometimes I even wake up with hard lobes . They both end up laughing and the audience is able to see the progression of their bond. They are so happy hanging out with one another. Just like in a family, you can get irritated with each other, but never tired of one another. Finally, these two men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Squanto Last Of The Patuxet Analysis During the Renaissance, European countries started exploring the world and colonizing new lands. After Spain and Portugal started taking many lands, England joined the race to expend his territory. When Europeans went to America, different tribes of natives were occupying those lands. Squanto was one of the Indians leaving in North America. In the article Squanto: Last of the Patuxet , the author Neal Salisbury argues that due to Squanto s unquiet adventure and his experience in both native American and European culture, Squanto was able to help both civilization and take important decisions. Firstly, I chose this article because I read about this native American who was captured by the British and went to Europe where he learnt English. The book: The American story by Robert A. Divine actually mentioned this Indian who came back to New England after he learnt English. I was really curious on how Squanto was able to survive and comeback to his mother ... But I think many lives would have had been saved if they were more people with both point of view who could have tried to negotiate with them and make an alliance instead of killing each other. And thanks to his diplomatic skills, Squanto was able to save many lives. To conclude, I think this article is accurate and presented correctly within general enough details. People who doesn t have general knowledge about this period of history can still fully understand the article. The author emphasis the importance of Squanto in this period. A weakness I found on this article is that the author doesn t give enough information on how Squanto escaped from Spain to England considering the fact that those two countries are enemies. • 9. The Philippines Of Martial Law In The Philippines Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law in the Philippines in 1972. The implementation allowed the military to have the highest authority in the country along with the President and allowed thousands of Filipino s rights to be abused. It ended after 21 years when Marcos finally was ousted out of office. Bangsa Moro refers to the 13 ethno linguistic Muslim tribes in the Philippines. They composed 1/4th of the population in Mindanao. Though each tribe differs in traditions, culture, and dialects, they all share the same religion of Islam. The Moro People are divided in three main groups which are the Maguindanaons, the Tausogs and the Maranaos. Each group and tribe commonly face the struggle for self determination. Starting from the Spanish colonization, as Christianization spread through the country, Islamic advancement completely stopped and prejudices against Muslims began in the Philippines. During the American colonization, they declared the entire country as independent while annexing Mindanao. These showcase that since the beginning of Philippine history, the Moro people have been oppressed by the different ruling bodies of the nation. The implementation of Martial Law in 1972 worsened the situation when the military attacked Mindanao which sparked the war between the Muslim rebels and the government. Now many Moro people are bombed out of their homes due to the current proclamation of Martial Law in Mindanao. In the early 70s, several massacres ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book contains ample advice for facilitating a sometimes confusing time as an undergraduate student while managing to fire up dreams that can translate into amazing post graduation opportunities, specifically jobs. Combs divides the book into sections, which include the Dream Job and the Action Plan. Each of these two parts encourages students to pursue a brand of success that will provide personal satisfaction and happiness by providing useful tips for getting the most out of their time in school. Whatever a person s passion is can translate into a job as long as the person is able to be creative. The author reiterates how necessary it is to enjoy oneself as much as possible and it is painfully clear why this constant reminder is necessary. Many students succumb to pressure from family and peers to settle for stability rather than following their personal dreams. There are quotes throughout the book from many influential and popular figures like Howard Stern, Oprah Winfrey, Marilyn Monroe, and Jim Carrey that champion being an individual who is fearless about following a passion. By including stories and quotations from familiar figures, Combs makes achieving a dream seem feasible to college students who are aware that it is often much easier to succumb to fears. By outlining six common fears, the author identifies why some people may be preventing themselves from reaching their full potential. Action is essential to combating fear and becoming successful. Specific actions are provided in the book to beat major fears. The author realizes how easy it is to allow a fear of failure as defined by a 3.0 GPA hold someone back from following their dream. For this reason, the value of experiences such as internships and study abroad over grades is extraordinarily essential to developing someone s sense of self worth. Experiences ... • 11. Research on the Logistics and Mechanisms of Attention Attention is a mechanism directly involved in the selection, distribution and maintenance of processing resources, which determines our ability to process complex and multiple stimuli from our environment and is crucial to our success and survival. Given the large magnitude of visual information we encounter every day, the existence of a selective mechanism at a conscious and unconscious level that regulates what we pay attention to is indisputable; it has even been conceptualized as a supramodal mechanism that distributes cognitive resources according to task complexity and motivation (Salthouse , Rogan Prill , 1984). Initially conceived as a single spotlight alternating amongst foci (Tiffin, Knight Jackson, 1946), attention is now understood to be beneficial due to its capacity to divide. Nevertheless, there is a limit in scope and manner, so we are constantly promoting the priority processing of certain information in the presence of multiple stimuli (RossellĆ³, 1999). Understanding the logistical constrains behind this prioritization and allocation of resources is thus important from a theoretical perspective (Vergauwe et al., 2010), but also due to its practical implications in various fields such as the military, sports, transportation, safety and education (Strayer Johnston, 2001; Gingerich Lineweaver, 2014). Generally, these constrains have been studied in two specific domains: space and time. Regarding space, visual search paradigms explore how stimulus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Employees choose to leave organizations both voluntarily and involuntarily dependent on a wide multitude of circumstances (Noe et al., 2011). Regardless of the reason for separation, employee turnover comprises of both direct and indirect costs that financially impact an organization. There are four basic cost categories related to employee turnover: separation, replacement, training, and productivity (Source?). Separation costs are expenses that are caused when employees or organizations choose to end their partnership and include expenses such as unemployment compensation, legal settlements, extended benefits, and the cost of conducting exit interviews. Replacement costs are the expenses required to refill the vacant position. These costs include items such as position advertisement, recruitment costs, costs of screening and interviewing employees, and any hiring or signing bonuses expensed to fill the open role. Training costs include the time and effort needed from trainers, supervisors, and co workers to educate employees. Lastly productivity costs include lower productivity of employees prior to leaving the organization, reduced productivity and increased labor expenses of remaining employees to cover the open positions, morale and reputation issues created by employee losses, increased error rates of new employees, and lost knowledge and efficiency of experienced employee that leave ... Liberalism Is A Political World View Liberalism is a political world view which was founded on the ideas of liberty, which economically means that the government should not try to control rents, wages and to control prices but to instead let open competition and forces of demand and supply create an equilibrium. Politically the concept is that preservation of individual liberty and maximization of freedom should be the main aim of the government. Liberalism states that all individuals should be equal before the law, no special privileges for those higher up in society. Liberalism is a political and/or social philosophy promoting the freedom of individuals in a society, parliamentary systems of government, promotes the nonviolent change of social, economic or political institutions to ensure that it is not restricted in the development of all spheres in human efforts and the reassurance of individual human rights. There are two main principles of liberalism, individualism and liberty. It places the individual at the center of society and argues that the highest social order is to be built around the individual. The purpose of society is to let the individuals to be able to reach their full potential if that individual wants to, and to do this, is to give the individual as much liberty as possible to reach their goal. National Cranberry Cooperative Case is the study done by the Harvard Business School about a process of warehousing from the delivery and arriving of cranberry to a manufacturing in the warehouse. National Cranberry Cooperative was an organization formed and owned by growers of cranberries to process and markets their berries. The handling of process fruit RP1 was highly mechanized. In addition, wet bin capacity is 3,200 barrels so, according to hourly inventory increasing rate, after passing 5.25 hours, trucks should wait to unload berries. Moreover, overworks should be done for 22.2 hours because workers should dry 13,300 barrels of the berries, but the drying capacity is only 600 barrel per hour besides the arrival rate is 1,210 barrels per hour. To solve this problem, I would recommend to add dryers ($25,000 per each and capacity increases 200 barrels per each) or wet bins ($5,000 per each and capacity increases 250 barrels per each) for short term. We can suggest three options to solve this matter. First, we can add no dryers but convert 15 bins. Second, we can add a dryer and convert 6 bins too. Third, we can add 2 dryers, not to convert any bins. As first option, we need only additional cost of $75,000, which is calculated by $5,000 x 15 bins. By practicing first option, the wet bin storage increases to 6,950, so we can cover all the arrivals of the berries this is done for not to make trucks to wait. In the second option, when we add a dryer, we can handle 800 barrels per hour in drying process and we can reduce the overworking time from 22.2 hour to 16.6 hour. (13,300 barrel / 800 barrel equals to 16.6 hours per a day) We can estimate overtime saved cost and it is closely related to labor cost. Labor cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Carl Freud And Freud s Three Stages Of Development The third stage of development in Freudian theory is the Phallic stage , which starts at the age of three and goes on until the age of six. During this particular stage according to Freud, children are said to take pleasure in their genitals and they also struggle with sexual desires, especially strong desires towards their opposite sex parent (girl desiring her father and boy desiring his mother). This kind of behavior in boys is called as Oedipus complex , which according to Freud means that the boys during this stage desire their mother and want to replace their fathers, who are seen to be seeking the mother s attention, because of this desire the boy is afraid that his father might find out and punish the boy by the process of castration(cutting off the penis) due to which they may develop castration anxiety. And the same desire called Electra complex which is the desire developed in girls for their fathers and in the thought of replacing their mothers is discussed during later on by Carl Jung. This stage helps in the development of Superego in life. The fourth stage of development according to Freudian theory is the Latency stage , which starts at age six and continued until puberty or twelve years of age. During this particular stage, the child s sexual desires than to subside and they start to additionally develop their conscience or superego. They begin to act and behave socially accepted by learning appropriate values from their parents or caregivers as their sex instincts are sublimated into hobbies, school activities, and sports and they also start focusing on developing and maintaining same sex friendships amongst their groups. The fifth and last stage of development according to the Freudian theory is the Genital stage , which starts from puberty to adulthood. During this particular stage, the sexual desire re emerges if every stage was developed correctly. In this stage, adolescents join in appropriate sexual behavior with their partners and develop a secure relationship which can later lead to lifelong commitment, marriage and focus more on reproducing their future offsprings through sexual intercourse. • 18. North Country By Niki Caro Films reflect all aspects of life, like the depiction of law in society. This much is true in the 2005 film North Country , directed by Niki Caro, based on a fictionalized interpretation of the first historic class action sexual harassment lawsuit in the United States, Jenson v Eveleth Mines. The film focuses on the main character Josie, a single mom to two children, trapped by her abusive husband and the lack of decent paying jobs for women so she could support her family. Josie escapes, going back to her hometown in the rural part of Northern Minnesota, but the only way to support her family was to go to work in the iron mines. Finding three plaintiffs with similar grievances proved to be difficult, since a lot of the female mine workers relied heavily on their jobs. In the end, Josie s true character shines through, attracting multiple plaintiffs to her case and a victorious win. One way this movie reflects the law in society is by illustrating the difference between law on the books and law in action. Those in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which is intended to eliminate discrimination based on characteristics like sex, argued that laws protecting women from unpleasant jobs were...designed to enable men to monopolize those jobs (CITE REP MARTHA GRIFFINS), which discriminated against women who were not allowed to apply for these jobs. It wasn t until 1975, nearly eleven years after this act passed, that the Northern Minnesota Iron Mines even hired their first female miner. From that point, it seems as if the unconstitutional discrimination against female miner worsened to the point where men were still outnumbering female miners 30 to 1. Not only were the female miners outnumbered but they were put it lower level positions as opposed to their male counterparts, making the mines as Sterling and Reichman would put it, a gendered organization (CITE). • 19. What Does Freedom Mean To Be Free Essay Freedom or liberty as a political concept remains a trouble some notion which continues to be widely disputed. Historically, being free did not refer only to a legal status, but also to a set of character virtues one possesses in becoming a man free of limitations. Within the discourse, there is a general consensus that freedom is contrary to that of constraint. Hence freedom can be thought of as being free from any restraint in pursuing one s desires or choices. Philisophers within the literature of liberty frequently frame their discussion of freedom in terms of the negative and positive distinction. In this essay, discussion will be given to the positive conception of freedom. Positive liberty is a theory that defines freedom as the power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, Berlin argues that, freedom is more than the absence of interference, limitation or impediment (Berlin 1969) . Such notion is supported by Rousseau as he equates positive freedom to self mastery or the capacity to exercise control of oneself through self legislation (Berlin 1969) . This framework concerning freedom to achieve one s goals relates to the concept of structure and agency. To gain the status as a free agent, a person should be liberated from societal conditions in carrying out their free will. In order to attain such status , one must identify the source of control or interference that determines what someone can do, or be (Simhony 1993). Such control can be thought of as authority attained through self government; a requirement for true freedom. As Mill argues, freedom of expression matters not just because it enabled the discovery of the truth, but it is necessary for people to develop their individuality (Mill 1859). Evidently, the theory of calling individual self direction as freedom, emphasises the overriding importance of one particular kind of desire to decide for oneself what one shall ... It is a loose adaptation of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? written by Philip K. Dick. It has spawned a loyal following of fans and is seen as a cult classic by many people. The film has inspired a lot of popular culture in movies, anime and video games (Hills, 2011). The films cult popularity is so great that it even received theatrical rereleases with additional scenes in 1992 ( Director s Cut ), 2007 ( Final Cut ) and a sequel in 2017. The academic side of the film industry has given plenty of attention to this film too. There are hundreds of articles written about it. For instance, a few articles in the Alien Zone (Kuhn ed., 1990) mentioned this famous film and base their arguments on it. And there are certainly reasons why. Blade Runner touches upon a variety of interesting subject and exhibits rich metaphors and symbolism. The most engaging subject of the film, for me at least, seems to be the question of how human are replicants. One of the best examples discussing this question is the scene in which Rick Deckard meats Rachael and administers to her a Voight Kampff Test. The Final Cut version of the film will be used in this analysis. The scene is set after Deckard has been given the case of the rogue replicants. Alexander IIi Of Macedonia Truly Worthy Of The Title Essay Was Alexander III of Macedonia really worthy of the title Great or was he just a megalomaniac conditioned into this belief by his followers? An Equally Faulted Inequality Essay An Equally Faulted Inequality With the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 came more than solely the independence stated in the legal document. The Declaration brought about a component of equality unanticipated by any signer or drafter that would soon shape the future and the mindset of many citizens. This sensation of equality spread rapidly through the country and could be seen in different time periods throughout American history where a group of people realized the government s failure to behave in such a way that reflects the words of the Declaration of Independence, ...that all men are created equal... . Though no longer a thriving feeling today due to our own natural human ability to dissolve equality in our quest for it, this sensation, while it lasted, significantly benefitted the greater good of society. How can one say that the sensation of equality had a negative impact on a country? Is this feeling one that could in fact do more harm than good? One s perception of its affect depends solely on one s place in America. The beneficiary of the feeling of equality would be those who were not comfortable with their position in the country. • 27. Observation Of Toddlers The key to understanding children is observation. As observers, we begin to look for daily patterns in their behavior. Once patterns of behavior are recognized, the observer can then give positive guidance in securing the child s developmental needs. In observing a normal newborn s behaviors and activities, reflexes play an important role. They help to identify normal brain and nerve activity. In my observation of Baby A, she demonstrated reflexes of rutting in finding the nipple of her bottle, sucking, head turning and grasping of my fingers. Although she was born full term, she was quite small in stature and weight. She also showed alertness to senses of sight, hearing, taste and touch. Of course, at first, she slept most of the time while she was in my care, but as she aged, she became more active and alert. The key element to keeping Baby A happy was taking care of her physical needs first...diaper changes, feeding and burping. Although she is still very small in weight and height, she shows no sign of delayed development and is now a happy, healthy toddler. Children from about 1 to 2 years old are usually called toddlers. During these years, parents see tremendous growth and change. As an observer, I was able to see a Toddler B transform from a baby into a toddler right before my eyes. Despite being a patient, McMurphy finds a way to stand out as a Christ Figure through having his individual thoughts and actions, rather than shrinking himself to what the ward wants him to be. The Meaning Of Life By Julian Baggini When people invest an abundant amount of time in a task, whether it be trivial and mundane like finishing the laundry, or important and time consuming like attaining a degree, they tend to want to be validated that they are spending their time in a meaningful way. Philosophers are often sought out for their wisdom and to answer the deep and mind bending questions common people don t intensely ponder. Though what the meaning of life is seems to be unique to each individual, when a philosopher asserts they have revelated the meaning of life, it is imperative to investigate their claims. In an article entitled Revealed the meaning of life, philosopher Julian Baggini claims he knows the answer to one of life s most burning question, what is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate his line of thinking relating to these concepts, he compares the pondering of life to a Celine Dion concert. He explains Compare that to a more mundane question, such as why on earth you are sitting in the front row waiting for a Celine Dion concert to begin. One answer is because you bought a ticket, took a train and then your seat. That explains why you re there in a backward looking way. Another answer is that you re there because you want to hear Dion sing, which explains your presence in a forward looking (though somewhat baffling) way. The moral of this extended yet amusing metaphor is that the answer one is searching for dictates the approach they implement to find said answer. Both methods, contemplating the future and the past, are still majorly flawed, as neither looking forwards nor backwards truly give the answer to the meaning of a person s life or why they are on earth. While looking at one s ancestry and roots reveals where a person is originated from and the route that lead them to where they are today, it does not necessarily reveal the reasoning as to why they are in their current reality. Baggini explains this by stating, It is perhaps surprising how often it is assumed that a look back to our origins will lead us to the meaning of life . . . if we take a long, cold look back to our origins, we just find ape like ancestors and an evolutionary trail that leads back to the big bang. The fact that the setting for OfMice and Men is a Califomia valley dictates, according to the symbolism of Steinbeck s landscapes, that this story will take place in a fallen world and that the quest for the illusive and illusory American Eden will be of central thematic significance.
