Exploring temporal graph data with Python: a study on tensor decomposition o...André Panisson
Tensor decompositions have gained a steadily increasing popularity in data mining applications. Data sources from sensor networks and Internet-of-Things applications promise a wealth of interaction data that can be naturally represented as multidimensional structures such as tensors. For example, time-varying social networks collected from wearable proximity sensors can be represented as 3-way tensors. By representing this data as tensors, we can use tensor decomposition to extract community structures with their structural and temporal signatures.
The current standard framework for working with tensors, however, is Matlab. We will show how tensor decompositions can be carried out using Python, how to obtain latent components and how they can be interpreted, and what are some applications of this technique in the academy and industry. We will see a use case where a Python implementation of tensor decomposition is applied to a dataset that describes social interactions of people, collected using the SocioPatterns platform. This platform was deployed in different settings such as conferences, schools and hospitals, in order to support mathematical modelling and simulation of airborne infectious diseases. Tensor decomposition has been used in these scenarios to solve different types of problems: it can be used for data cleaning, where time-varying graph anomalies can be identified and removed from data; it can also be used to assess the impact of latent components in the spreading of a disease, and to devise intervention strategies that are able to reduce the number of infection cases in a school or hospital. These are just a few examples that show the potential of this technique in data mining and machine learning applications.
PCA: Principal Component Analysis, commonly referred to as PCA, is a powerful mathematical technique used in data analysis and statistics. At its core, PCA is designed to simplify complex datasets by transforming them into a more manageable form while retaining the most critical information.
reducing the dimensionality of dataset

A new incomplete data model, the trunsored model, in lifetime analysis is introduced. This model can be regarded as a unified model of the censored and truncated models. Using the model, we can not only estimate the ratio of the fragile population to the mixed fragile and durable populations, but also test a hypothesis that the ratio is equal to a prescribed value. A central point of the paper is that such a test can easily be realized through the newly introduced trunsored model, because it has been difficult to do such a hypothesis test under only the framework of censored and truncated models. Therefore, the relationship of the trunsored model to the censored and truncated models is clarified because the trunsored model unifies the censored and truncated models. The paper also shows how to obtain the estimates of the parameters in lifetime estimation, and corresponding confidence intervals for the fragile population. Typical examples applied to electronic board failures, and to breast cancer data, for lifetime estimation are demonstrated, and successfully worked using the trunsored model.
Deriving likelihood functions is often perceived as a daunting task. This slides shows how the likelihood function is derived in a general case and demonstrate it for different models.

S1 - Process product optimization using design experiments and response surfa...CAChemE
An intensive practical course mainly for PhD-students on the use of designs of experiments (DOE) and response surface methodology (RSM) for optimization problems. The course covers relevant background, nomenclature and general theory of DOE and RSM modelling for factorial and optimisation designs in addition to practical exercises in Matlab. Due to time limitations, the course concentrates on linear and quadratic models on the k≤3 design dimension. This course is an ideal starting point for every experimental engineering wanting to work effectively, extract maximal information and predict the future behaviour of their system.

He is working in close cooperation with Paul Geladi, Professor of Chemometrics, and using DOE and RSM for process optimization mainly for the valorization of industrial wastes in laboratory and pilot scales.”
In general, a factorial experiment involves several variables.
One variable is the response variable, which is sometimes called the outcome variable or the dependent variable.
The other variables are called factors.
The effect of leadership effectiveness, organizational culture and work motiv...Paulus Robert Tuerah
Reliable leadership effectiveness is an integral part of the development of advanced and independent human resources, which should require a high level of job satisfaction, namely the achievement of pleasant feelings, and the tendency
of a person's positive actions towards his work. Thus, the success of the work or performance of an organization is a real picture of the productivity and effectiveness of the organization that is played collectively by members of the organization. This
applies also to the lecturers and staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Manado State University. Lecturers spread across 7 study programs amounted to 100 people and the number of teaching staff as many as 22 people were expected to be able to
answer the problems of institutional performance, namely job satisfaction. In this study limited to factors: (a) effectiveness of leadership (b) organizational culture (c) work motivation. For this reason, the aim of the research is to answer the problem of
lecturer and employee job satisfaction due to leadership effectiveness, organizational culture, and work motivation. This study uses a quantitative approach with the survey method applying a causal relationship. Research data
collection was conducted by questionnaire. Data analysis using descriptive statistical analysis. The results showed that lecturer and employee job satisfaction was positively correlated with leadership effectiveness as well as lecturer and employee job satisfaction had a positive effect on organizational culture and
work motivation.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
