Racial Profiling Complications
Complications Faced in a Partial Society
Throughout history, the issue of racial equality has caused members of ethnic minorities to suffer for
decades. Many people of color have struggled to obtain their civil liberties and achieve social justice
within their community when faced with bigotry and prejudice based on their ethnicity. The United
States, a nation where immigrants make up two tenths of the population, still suffers from this issue
today amongst many ethnic and racial minorities from police officials who practice the idea of racial
profiling when interrogating potential suspects (Kirk). Racial profiling has been intensified since the
September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Arabs, Muslims, and South
Asians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it may seem that the concept might not exist because it is often referred to the idea of racist
perspectives and judgments. According to retired professional basketball player Charles Barkley, he
mentioned in a CNN interview that we as black people, we have a lot of crooks. We can t just wait
until something threatens or hurts a person of minority. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and
continues stating that there is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is
wrong, and sometimes it is right (Cobb). Barkley s statement presents the idea that racial profiling is
utilized toward certain racial groups and ethnic minorities through the idea of implicit stereotypes
where groups are categorized based on their qualities and social features. He wants the black
community to understand that they are cast away from other racial groups because of how they are
recognized both physically and stereotypically. The idea of racial profiling is used in certain
circumstances to show that police officials will use their racial insight to identify an individual who
would be suspected of committing illegal acts based on their racial identity or religious background. In
addition, Rudolph Giuliani addressed on a Fox News Sunday interview that the relationship between
police officers and the black community have poor interaction with one another because of the police
department s lack of responsibility to properly train their officers and to diversify the department
(Cobb). However, Giuliani also adds that it is the black community s responsibility to understand the
reason why police officers gather in large groups within their community. Statistics show that African
Americans commit eight times as many murders compared to other racial groups (Cobb). It is

The Importance Of Girl Scouting
How has Girl Scouting helped you develop courage, confidence, and character? (250)
When I started Girl Scouting as a Daisy, I saw myself as shy and young. While those descriptors were
accurate, I no longer use them. Girl Scouting taught me that I, like every girl in my troop, had the
potential to be more. Someone who does not understand girl scouting might not know the distinctions
between daisies and brownies, or Cadettes and seniors other than the difference in the color of the
uniforms. However, I distinctly remember the importance of the bridging ceremony when I became a
Brownie. It was significant to me because I had seen the example which other Brownies before me
had set and I was eager to leave the same impression on girls younger ... Show more content on

Even though the project was more difficult than I expected, the process was beneficial to both me and
the community. My project was only successful because of the contributions made by members of my
team. However, being a leader of this team was challenging. I had intentionally made a team with a
diverse group of people who could offer insightful perspectives. However, I did not anticipate how
difficult it would be to loosen my grip on the creative control of the project. Before beginning the
construction of the kits, I had a clear vision for the majority of the kits. Even though it was
challenging for me to accept, this project taught me that being a leader is more than telling people
what to do; it is about bringing people and ideas together while maintaining structure and
organization. At the end of the day, I could not be happier with how the kits turned out since so many
people on my team had such fantastic ideas. Additionally, after I learned to trust the capabilities of the
people I was working with, I was able to be a better leader because I was in a position to make the
entire project more efficient by talking to my peers rather than at them. I am really excited about how
well my Girl Scout Gold Award has been received. The day that I brought the boxes into the school, I
saw how interested the kids were in what I

Summary Of The Southern Chivalry
]Basil also has the power of a Southern gentleman on his side. His physical description includes his, ...
superior forehead... (James 4) in his line up of the Southern charm qualities. Even though this book
was published in 1886, the modern reader still must remember that the Civil War relevance is included
in this novel, as is the imagery of slavery. Basil s image was not for want of relevant details of slavery,
but the troubling resonance constitutes a strong critique of a system within which humans could be
whipped, shackled, bought and sold . Olive Chancellor thinks Basil is someone who no doubt, desired
to treat women with the lash and manacles, as he and his people had formerly treated the whole
wretched colored race (164) (Hochman 274 275). Olive and Verena are not the only women that Basil
influences under his power. Mrs. Luna also sees it, and believes it. Mrs. Luna may not be the most
influenced by his power, but, She appealed to his Southern chivalry, and not in vain; practically at
least, he admitted the rights of women, (James 90). He may admit them, but does not believe them. He
is afraid it threatens his power. Outside of Boston, across the river to Connecticut, there is another
man who has a force of power to his name, even though he is not in Connecticut.

The Missing Plane, Malaysia Airlines Flight Mh370
In the modern democracy world, political game is no longer a game of one to many rather many to
one. Many parties see the need of employing communication professionals to develop a more efficient
campaign with favourly publicity. These communication professionals are known as the spin doctor or
Public Relations (PR) expert in dealing with the mass media to mobilize and steer public opinion
(Louw, 2010).
This article addresses the role and the relationship of spin doctoring with other players take part in
mass media, with two case studies demonstrated: one being successful and one being unsuccessful
spin. The successful spin will be shown using the example of the Islamic State Group in Syria and Iraq
(ISIS). On the other hand, the unsuccessful one will be using the handling case of the missing plane,
Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. A summary of the key concepts relevant to this article will also be
provided, followed by what led to the success and the failure of the two campaigns mentioned will be
analyzed.
The term spin doctor consists of a symbolic relationship with journalists and mass media. Both need
each other in order to generate and disseminate information within the media machine. A good spin
team knows what works is the best to hook the intended audiences, be it a mass audience or the
journalist (Louw, 2010). They write scripts for politicians or other performers and crafted favourbly
stories as sources to their advantage for journalists to find information

Corruption Of Society In Wag The Dog, By George Orwell And...
George Orwell, the author of Animal Farm and Barry Levinson director of the Cinematic production
Wag the Dog both explore in their texts the corruption of society. With in the texts both authors key
ideas are explored to exposing Corruption and to highlight how powers use manipulation and half
truths to gain and retain control. To make their ideas prudent to the audience, Orwell and Levinson
make use of various literary and filmic techniques, most prominent of these in both texts is the use of
Irony. These texts influence the audience directly to consider the potential folly of human forms of
governance, which is timely to society in our day.
Both Orwell and Levinson explore the ways in which social ideals are corrupted for personal power.
Orwell depicts Animal farm s fall into corruption through the narrative perspective of the working
animals where as Levinson exposes the already set corruption through a narrative perspective of The
Fixers. In Orwell s text he explores the corruption of the animals ideals of Animalism, similarly
Levinson depicts a country s corruption of the ideals of truth. Animalism, fundamentally corrupted in
the situational corruption of the Old Major s to the final words of the text. Old Major s words in the
first chapter clearly explain that in fighting against man they must not come to resemble him , by the
final the lines of the book this has been wholly corrupted when the animals looked from pig to man,

The Use Of Technology In The Film Industry And The Movie...
An American director, producer, and screenwriter once said, Cinema is gone , but is it really? The
ability to bring a story to life on a big screen, using technology is magic. To be able to use a camera
and transform an idea into reality has allowed one to visualize written words. The movie industry is a
broad and vast field, but has transformed, connected, and influenced the way one see s reality. These
movies have the ability to transforms an idea into a moving picture by the use of technology, allowing
one to connect to the story, and influence in the way one perceives it. The movement of pictures, or
movies as they are now called, dates back to the late 1800s . With the introduction of these moving
pictures and the technology that was used to make, these movies have changed the world as one view
it. Today movies are as easy to access through phones, televisions, and at the movies theaters;
however, does the easy access of viewing movies through one s phone affect the making of these
movies and the movie industry (The History of Motion Pictures, n.d.)? The history, the use of
technology, the key people, and the future, are all important when understanding why the movie
industry is gone according to American directors like Martin Scorsese, who has directed popular
movies from as early as the 1970s such as Taxi Driver (1976), and recent films such as Silence (2016.)

Socrates s Views On Philosophy And It s Influences...
Perhaps in the present moment, there would have been no such information on philosophy and it s
influences without the existence of Socrates. Socrates was an individual who was acknowledged as an
eminent philosopher. We have received his intelligence from others who have documented his
speeches, due to the fact that in the past, he had not personally recorded himself. I find it rather
intriguing that despite the fact that Socrates, alongside his pupils, have endured life many years ago, it
is still pertinent in todays society. I have appointed myself to compose about Socrates s dialogue on
The Apology . Socrates is notorious for his wisdom, in conjunction with his competence to prevail
upon you that your dictums are spurious and that his, in fact, are equitable. I have also come to the
agreement to write about The Apology by reason of that this is the closest to him that we will ever get
too. Additionally, The Apology is inherently the inauguration of Western Philosophy.
Socrates is known for his capability to arouse conversation among others. He produces this method in
which he essentially forces each person in the discussion to think twice before they supply others with
their remarks. His method is also a form dialogue, which is where you bequeath material and take
away material. In The Apology , Socrates generates a speech in the vicinity of the trial in which he is
charged with not recognizing the Gods, inventing new Gods, dishonoring the current Gods, and with

Summary Of One Child By Torey Hayden
One Child, is a beautifully compelling story about a teacher who was given a student that was misled
and overlooked for far too long. This student was Sheila and before Torey Hayden had Sheila, she had
moved home to home between different relatives. The school where Torey Hayden taught wasn t too
sure that they would be able to find Sheila a home and she would soon be sent to a state hospital.
During the time that Torey and Sheila had together, Sheila began developing into a pleasant and
prosperous child that loved to learn and was very intelligent. Also, at this time Sheila grew closer to
her classmates and began to have bonded with others. Torey Hayden stated, I taught what was
affectionately referred to in our school district as the garbage class. She was given little to work with
but was expected to do her job just like every teacher in school. This doubt and negative attitude
towards her passion could be discouraging, yet she knew what her end goal was. The end goal being;
to be strong and show passion for teaching these forgotten children. Not only did she guide ... Show

On the first day of school, Sheila refused to sit with anyone in the classroom, so Torey Hayden
thought this was an ideal starting point to reach out to her. Slowly but surely, Torey Hayden convinced
the little girl to sit with the group. This showed the girl that, she was in a safe spot with other children
just like her and made her feel more welcome to this new environment. Once Torey Hayden was able
to achieve this step she moved towards exposing more academic skills to Sheila. The teacher soon
discovered that this little girl was exceptionally intelligent and was past all of her other students
academically. Even though she was only six years old, Sheila could perform academically at the fifth
grade level. Gradually introducing Sheila to new concepts, the more she was

Cost And Purpose Of Sales Promotion
1: INTRODUCTION
1.1. Introduction to sales promotion
Meaning and Purpose of Sales Promotion:
Sales promotion consists of all promotional activities other than advertising, personal selling and
publicity that help to increase sales through non repetitive and one time communication. In other
words, it includes marketing activities other than personal selling, advertising, and publicity, that
stimulate consumer purchasing and dealer effectiveness, such as point of purchase displays, shows and
exhibitions, demonstrations and various non recurring selling efforts not in the ordinary routine.
Purpose: The ultimate aim or purpose of sales promotion is that of increasing the volume of sales and
profits but it differs from advertising and personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the greater the geographical dispersion of a target market, the greater the communication
expenditure required. Similarly, if an offering is in its early life cycle, there is a greater need of
expenditure. But promotion budget should always justify the tasks to be undertaken. A basic principle
would be the cost and returns of sales promotion tools to be adopted. Hindustan Lever has its well
drawn up sales promotion budget. If any business house does not have its promotion budget fixed,
then promotion programmes will have to be designed to support the marketing plan.
(vi) Government regulations:
Government has passed various laws and made rules to protect the consumer interest, such as the
prevention of Food Adulteration Act, the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements)
Act, and Drugs and Cosmetics Act etc. Sales promotion policy must take into consideration the
government regulations relating to the particular product, e.g. the commodity rates must be specified
on the package and in case of medicines drug contents and date of manufacturing, date of expire, and
price must be

Pythagoran Influence On Greek Society
The world of chaos and disorder has become the world of order and harmony. Ever since the ancient
Greek times, chaos has been in existence. This led people to start thinking outside of the box. Many
people started questioning why somethings were the way they were. As a result many philosophers
emerged in the pre Socratic times. Many people did not understand the world around them back in
those times. Gods were created for various reasons so that they can help explain certain phenomenons.
For many years, people used to live like this until some people started using logic and reasoning to
explain how things happened in the universe. These people that started thinking differently are known
as pre Socratic philosophers. Greek mythology came out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However these were not the only fields in which discoveries were being made. One of the many men
that had made a huge impact on Greek and modern culture is Pythagoras. He is known for many
things including the Pythagorean Theorem. Pythagoras was from the same city Thales was from,
Miletus. As his life went on he moved to Croton, which was in the southern part of Italy. This is where
the secret religious society: Pythagoreans, was established. The Pythagoreans had taken over Croton
and various other Greek cities in the southern part of Italy. Pythagoras was also know for discovering
harmonics and shapes. The concept of harmonics is known as music in the modern word. The
Pythagoreans identified a pentagram on their hands. They called it the golden rectangle because it had
special properties. As the number of Pythagoreans increased and all of this knowledge started
emerging, cosmos was starting to build. Cosmos was a fundamental Pythagorean belief. Cosmos
means orderly universe. The Greek culture transitioned from a society filled with chaos where all gods
controlled various things to, universe filled with

False Ideas Regarding the Extict Dodo Bird
Just less than 64 100 years after its discovery by Europeans, the Dodo bird vanished completely from
existence. Unsurprisingly, this bird has gained the image of a creature that was poorly adapted. The
bulk of the arguments used to support this widespread belief are that Dodos were flightless and
fearless as well as supposedly being fat, stupid, clumsy, and slow. Although these features are seen as
disadvantages, they were actually evolutionary adaptations or are myths. Ultimately, we can not say
the Dodo bird was as poorly adapted as we thought.
The Dodo s lack of flight can be justified as an evolutionary adaptation. Due to its isolation, Mauritius
had its own unique ecosystem that was absent of predators. Without predators, the Dodo had no need
to flee by flying. Dodos did not need to fly to reach its food either. The Dodo s diet consisted mostly
of fruit, nuts and seeds. As there was abundance of this sustenance in Mauritius, flying was
unnecessary as food was fairly accessible. Since there was no need to fly, it would be a waste of
energy and a hindrance for the Dodo and thus, being flightless was an adaptation for the Dodo.
Again, due to lack of predators, the Dodo evolved to become fearless. Seeing as nothing hunted it, it
had no need to flee as the minimal danger in Mauritius did not merit this. In fact, fleeing away when
there was no predator would be a useless expenditure of energy and would only pose to be an
impediment for it. Thus, like flying, the

Kahlo s Self-Portrait With Cropped Hair
Suffering is a consistent and main theme of Kahlo s paintings. She chose to reveal her inner side
through a number of self portraits. As such, the fundamental theme was herself, and the primary
reason for painting them was to record the reality in which she lived. As she said, I paint self portraits
because I am so often alone, because I am the subject I know best. She probably could perform an in
depth self analysis through a mirror as she spent several of her time alone lying in bed (Kettenmann
Andrea, 2002). Except for a few still lifes she painted before her death, most of Kahlo s paintings were
portraits of herself and her family and friends. Among her 200 or so pieces of work, 55 pieces were
her portraits. Her portraits have various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She painted this piece to identify her identity as Mexican. For this painting, she was inspired by an
image of a mother breastfeeding her baby, which is one of her collections of art before Columbus.
Kahlo also continued to show her interest in her identity or existence, including her patriotism,
lineage, and family, which can be seen in My Grandparents, My Parents and I (1936) (Figure 11). In
this painting, she is emphasizing her existence through a young self, standing behind a small tree,
holding a ribbon connecting her grandparents and parents. Her lineage can be revealed by taking a
look at her genealogy. In the painting, Kahlo s maternal Indian grandfather and maternal Spanish
grandmother stand next to her mother. A European couple, who are her paternal grandparents, is next
to her father. Kahlo is expressing her dual lineage by painting two different backgrounds on the left
and right sides, and is drawing attention to her existence by describing herself as an insecure child.
The ribbon s knot in her hands indicates the encounter between her mother and father, her fateful
birth, a blood bonding. The painting can be considered a family portrait that symbolizes her identity,
ethnicity, tradition, and

Rip Van Winkle Allegory
Washington Irving s story of Rip Van Winkle is an allegory of the American Revolutionary War and
the formation of a new nation. Just as Rip Van Winkle struggled to find his freedom and identity, the
new nation also struggled to find their own freedom and identity. In this story, the character of Rip Van
Winkle represents the colonies, Dame Van Winkle represents England, and the villagers represent the
American citizens. Irving contrasts conditions before and after the Revolutionary War, and concludes
that since obtaining freedom from England, the citizens of America are more prosperous and engaged
in government as they search for a new identity in the formation of a new nation. Rip Van Winkle, just
like the colonies, was viewed by others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He immediately notices the difference in a once dry gully that had changed into a mountain stream
was now foaming down it, leaping from rock to rock, and filling the glen with babbling murmurs (49).
This foretells of a fuller, better life than the old one. Although Rip s house was abandoned and in ruins
and his wife was dead, the village was larger, with more people and houses. This indicates that the
new nation without England s authority was more prosperous, even though some aspects were ruined
in the process of war. Irving writes, The very character of the people seemed changed. There was a
busy, bustling, disputatious tone about it, instead of the accustomed phlegm and drowsy tranquility
(51). Some readers may argue that the new nation is not as good as the colonies because life is faster
paced and people are more involved rather than a more relaxed society, however life is more lively
and full. There is more ambition and interest in life and government, as opposed to the apathy that
existed before the revolution. While no longer tranquil, there was more engagement from the citizens.
Instead of old newspapers, men were talking about citizen s rights and elections. Instead of idle
speeches, Rip found a man ....haranguing vehemently about rights of citizens elections members of
congress liberty Bunker s Hill heroes of seventy six and other words, which were a perfect Babylonish
jargon to the bewildered Van Winkle (52). Although initially bewildered by the new changes, Rip
enjoys the peace in his new freedom and eventually goes to live with his daughter in her nice home,
and finds happiness and respect. He took his place once more on the bench at the inn door, and was
reverenced as one of the patriarchs of the village, and a chronicle of the old times before the war (56).

Abraham Maslow s Work On Social Psychology
Abraham H. Maslow was born on April 1, 1908 in New York City, and passed away on June 8, 1970
in California. Dr. Maslow received all three (A.B., M.A. and Ph.D.) of his degrees from the University
of Wisconsin. He was also the founding editor of the Journal of Humanistic Psychology and the
Journal of Transpersonal Psychology. (Professional biography, 1970, p. 98). As a graduate student
enthusiastic by the work of Alfred Adler and John B. Watson, Maslow became a dedicated behaviorist,
and pursued his socialistic and humanistic (Maslow, 2000, p. 129). From 1933 to late 1936, Dr.
Maslow spent most of his research on monkeys and primates, his topic of focus revolved around
motivation, hunger, social interaction, sexual behaviour, and learning and reproduction of learned
behaviours. In 1937, Dr. Maslow began his work on social psychology, and was a prominent figure
and founder of individual psychology as well. His focus during that time included personality and
culture, dominance, and personality and social behaviour in women. At the start of 1941, it was
evident that his works began to broaden and he delved into abnormal psychology, leadership, human
motivation, and developed his famous theory of self actualization in 1943 (Professional biography,
1970, p. 100).

thought in psychology (during that time), he said that, humanistic concerns were part of the reason, a

Compare And Contrast The Cost Of Blockbuster Movies
How much does it cost to make a blockbuster movie? It takes a lot of work and money to make
movies. A film has to go through three stages of preproduction, production and post production in
order to create that film. There are many similarities from the studio system and the independent
system but today majority of the films are established with a combination of independents and the
major studios. Movies start in the preproduction phase where they began the process and start to try to
secure financing for their project. Sometimes producers have enough money to begin their project. If
they don t have any start up money to begin, they will have to try and market their ideas of projection
of costs and profits to investors. According to Barsam and Monahan (2016), No ... Show more content

The movies are so expensive because there are so many costs that go in to a budget for a film.
Typically, the highest costs in films are for the cast and the industry has gotten creative to finding
ways to assist instead of paying a fee for an actor or producer upfront, to include it in the contract as a
percentage of the profits goes to them. Some examples of the costs of a movie are: Story, director,
producer, cinematography, cast and etc. The studio system will use a general manager to assist with
budget, while the independent system uses a producer. The marketing and distribution are a very
important stage in the post production phase. They need to gauge the interest of audiences by using
preview screenings along with questionnaires. Once they analyze all the information, they can adapt
or modify the distribution to ensure the most effective ways of getting their profits. Before the
Supreme Court Paramount Decision, the studio system controlled everything from production,
distribution and exhibition and now they have to use other companies to assist in the distribution and

Jan Van Eyck s Wedding Portrait And The Aztec Marriage Couple
Although they appear vastly different, Jan van Eyck s Wedding Portrait, and the painting of the Aztec
Marriage Couple have several similarities. The obvious similarity the paintings share is subject matter.
They both depict a couple participating in a wedding ceremony. Another similarity between both
works is the depiction of witnesses to the marriage. In van Eyck s work, the witnesses s reflections can
be seen in the mirror in the background of the painting. The Aztec Marriage Couple shows the
witnesses more clearly as the ones surrounding the couple getting married. The paintings were both
most likely used for the same purpose; to document and legalize the marriages. The differences in the
paintings are a bit more obvious than the similarities.

Kangaroo Care Essay
In this article, the authors emphasize the effectiveness of Kangaroo Care on neonatal infants. The
author is fond of Kangaroo Care because of its least invasive, cost effective, and natural treatment that
can help with infant s temperature. The purpose for this article is to answer the questions about
Kangaroo Care and note the variety of benefits that it can do for infants. In addition, this article
recognizes the benefit Kangaroo Care has on third world nations and that this natural treatment can
help the infants that do not have access to the health care system. However, in resource rich countries,
the incubator is commonly used and Kangaroo care is coming rarer. The reason Kangaroo Care is
rising to the surface again is because there is a desire to humanize the care, promote early bonding,

Organic Law of Villager Committees
Village Election Law was pursued in the 1980s, enacted nationally since 1987 and after further
extended and revised. It becomes Organic Law of Villager Committees in the 1998. Village election is
part of village self governing, which appears in the 1982 revision of Article 111 of the Chinese
Constitution Law. Organic Law of Villager Committees confirms the absolute, multi candidate
election of village committees and is the milestone in the democratisation of China.
According to Article 11 of Organic Law of Villager Committees, villager committees are elected for a
term of three years and consist of committees director, committee s associate director and committee s
member. General elections are held every three years and the former Villager Committees would be
replaced. Organic Law of Villager Committees specifies the qualification of candidates. Production of
candidates requires three steps. First, the candidates should be nominated directly by the voters.
Second, candidates should be reviewed for qualification by villager election committees. Last, all
candidates would be published in the official list of candidates to inform the voters. These three steps
are under the organizing of the villager election committees. According to Article 121 of Organic Law

An Analysis of the Hurricane Catrina Relief Effort Essay
In a state of national emergency, the United States government is expected to be efficient and
organized. When Hurricane Katrina struck on August 25th, 2005, the United States government was
not readily prepared for such an immense disaster. The mismanagement of relief efforts by the U.S.
government led to a lack of adequate assistance to U.S. victims along with a prolonged restoration
period for those in need. Had the government accepted more foreign aid and further prepared for the
storm, hurricane Katrina may not have proved such a disaster in our nation s history. This essay will
explain how foreign aid was integrated into the relief effort. Additionally, this essay will explore the
government s refusal of aid from various countries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, in many instances this was not enough, seeing as the final death toll from the storm
came to an estimated 1800 people (Kenny, 2013). As the G.A.O. stated, it exacted terrible human costs
with the loss of significant number of lives and resulted in billions of dollars in property damage
(GAO 2006). Faster aid and relief to the victims of Katrina was a possibility that did not occur due to
the lack of preparation and acceptance of aid by the United States government.
Government Action
In a time of crisis, the government response to the situation at hand was poor and inefficient. There
were numerous flaws and errors in the relief plan proposed to the government which in turn led to
delayed relief to victims in need. The immediate response phase after Katrina lasted roughly 12 days.
During this time, victims were evacuated, rescued, sheltered, and received medical care from first
responders, charities and other non governmental organizations, and private citizens (McNeill, 2011).
The fact that the U.S. government organizations were not the first responders to the disaster is
shameful for our country.
The majority of the immediate relief occurred thanks to the aid of private organizations such as the
Red Cross along with the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund (McNeill, 2011). The Bush administration and
other government figures acted incredibly slowly and were unable to give the

U.s. Vietnam War On American Culture, Politics, And...
Regarded as one of the most controversial and polarizing military conflicts in U.S. history, the
Vietnam War has left a deep and lasting impact on American culture, politics, and foreign policy. From
1964 to the present day, the Vietnam War redefined the scope of U.S. influence both at home and
abroad, and caused a fundamental shift in American society that dramatically changed the way in
which Americans viewed their government and the role of the United States as a world power. For an
entire generation of Americans, who watched as the horrors of the war in Vietnam unfold before the
spotlight of the national media, the Vietnam War directly challenged the superiority of the American
way and the infallibility of U.S military dominance. In truth, the U.S government, U.S. military, and
the American people as a whole struggled to accept the lessons of America s greatest military failure
and the sobering reality of the war s consequences. To this day, the legacy of this so called American
War continues to resonate throughout the fabric of American society as a cautionary tale of U.S
foreign intervention and blind acceptance of open ended conflict.
For the United States government, the failure of U.S intervention in Vietnam provided lessons about
where and under what circumstances the United States should intervene in foreign conflicts.
Throughout the mid twentieth century, U.S. foreign policy was characterized by the idea of
containment . Coined by George Kennan in 1946,

Bible And Leadership In The New Oxford Annotated Bible
Throughout the class Bible and Leadership we the class have learned of leaders that caused great
change. The greatest leader of the The New Oxford Annotated Bible the man who gave birth to the
New Testament, Jesus Christ. The class textbook The Art of Leadership by Manning and Curtis splits
leadership into three types teacher, Hero and Ruler. The book even describes Jesus as a teacher since
teachers and rule breakers. It is apparent that Jesus is a rule breaker since he values worship over
societal rules Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands
before they eat. Jesus answered them And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of
your tradition? (New Revised Standard Version, Matthew 15.2,3) Jesus rocked the establishment
saying that the society should never trump the reason for society and that is the commandment. Jesus
was also a hero since he was responsible for great causes and noble works. In Jesus s time Judaism
and Jewish society was based around the concept of hierarchy, some people on top but most are on the
bottom. Jesus helped perpetuate egalitarian philosophy with a simple sentence Do to others as you
would have them do to you (New Revised Standard Version, Luke 6.31). This was and still is a great
cause to champion for, equality and fairness. Though the text described the concept of rulers as
aggressive, cold and calculative with the likes of Napoleon, Caesar and Hitler but even though Jesus
was none of those things he was still a ruler. A ruler that knew how to lead his disciples and followers.

Green Winter Through The Kick Starter Website
In efforts to grow the Seedfolk City Farm, Barker initiated Operation Green Winter through the kick
starter website, Indiegogo. This was a community focused urban agriculture project that helped raise
funds to continue operating the greenhouses during the winter. It also enabled them to provide
consistent year round after school employment for four of the young people that helped to get the
project off the ground. This campaign was in addition to several community events held in efforts to
raise money for the green winter . This was as a result of weather implications in Rochester, NY,
which prevented them from growing fresh fruits and vegetables. The pilot aquaponic farming system
would winterize the greenhouse by sustaining a year round farming operation that enabled them to
triple production capabilities with four new vertical grow beds. Not only did the money raised help
physically make these changes possible, but it also provided the youth with more after school
activities as a result of these expansions.
ProsperRochester has relied on its partnerships to achieve its goals. In order to establish these
greenhouses, ProsperRochester teamed up with In The City/Off The Grid. ICOG is a Rochester based
cooperative business that offers solar installation services and general construction services, while
engaging in community development projects and employee training. Thankfully, ICOG was able to
assist with building and provide solar panels for the greenhouses.

Comparing Kubrick s Film And Burgess Essay
A difference and slight similarity between Kubrick s Film and Burgess novella is the narration. In
both, Alex is the narrator and uses Nadsat vocabulary to describe his acts of violence, however, the
film narrative is perceived as less powerful as the novella. In the book, Alex s narration accentuates
his cruelty, pleasure, and lack of remorse. His pleasure is highlighted in the book displaying his dark
thoughts, making the novella A Clockwork Orange appear to be a more grotesque piece in language
than the film. This is evident in an act of violence, the raping of two ten year old girls. In the film,
Alex has what appears to be consensual sex with two women around or a few youngers than himself,
that the met in a record store. In the novel, he meets two ten year old girls instead and purchases them
some food in addition. He then convinces them to come with him where they become intoxicated and
he rapes them. Alex in the novella narrates the aftermath,
They looked like they had been in some big bitva, as indeed they had, and were all bruised and pouty.
Well, if they would not go to school they would still have their education. And education they had had.
They were creeching and going ow ow ow as they put their platties on, and they were like
punchipunching me with their teeny fists as I lay there dirty and nagoy and fair shagged and fagged on
the bed. (36)
Whereas the film, nothing but the scene of Alex and the two young women having sex is shown.

Social Issues In Toronto
Looking into one of the popular area in Toronto (Jane and Finch) is amazing research to do, and
gazing on few things youths in the community is facing the most will provide background how my
research topic came to existence. Before the advent and proliferation of the media, this place was one
of the most popular areas of residence among the middle income earners. Observing the area problem
from a macro level is the impact of mass media within the contemporary society; is a process that can
neither be underestimated nor presumed. In my initial understanding of the area, the majority of

One of these factors could be lack of awareness and understanding. According to Monsebraaten, there
is a thoughtful level of lack of commitment in the community (2015). Society is not looking closer to
what has been happening in the community about the violence there are experiencing; this is
normalized in the community. Many residents said they were unhappy with the services that they are
receiving from cops at 31 Division and would not report a crime if they witnessed one or were victims
of one (Share News, 2009). Therefore, youths refuse to seek help, and then deal with problems the
way they understand since they cannot find good role models to follow they path. According to
Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services says lack of understanding is affecting everybody in
the neighbourhood, which increases violence from many backgrounds that includes poverty and
discrimination. Good local programming often is not available or sustainable, and role models and
mentors can be hard to find (2015). It is important to understand that the government are the people.
Base on the facts, the root of Jane and Finch is not a fault of government, but the fault of the society
where people of Jane and Finch cannot govern themselves. Women work in plain sight of the residents

The Ethics Of Ford Pinto
PINTO FIRES CASE
The assumption that it s easy to be ethical assumes that individuals automatically know that they are
facing an ethical dilemma and that they should simply choose to do the right thing. But decision
makers may not always recognize that they are facing a moral issue. Rarely do decisions come with
waving red flags. Dennis Gioia was recall coordinator at Ford Motor
Company in the early 1970s when the company decided not to recall the Pinto despite dangerous fires
that were killing the occupants of vehicles involved in low impact rear end collisions. In his
information and overloaded recall coordinator role, Gioia saw thousands of accident reports, and he
followed a cognitive script that helped him decide which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The means were limited design time and reducing costs. By cutting costs, Ford knowingly created a
product which could prove dangerous and fatal to its consumers. Does Ford s ends justify its means?
Ford did create a sub compact that sold extremely well and competed fiercely with foreign imports.
The goal of the Ford Pinto was met. The costs of this win were substantial however. The money that
Ford tried to save by not recalling the vehicle was spent when Ford recalled the Pinto, and extra was
spent in compensatory and punitive damages in lawsuits. So the costs that Ford tried to avoid were
incurred anyway along with extra. A similar ethical concept to Utilitarianism is that of Rawl s Theory
of Justice. Within his theories he states that for something to be both ethical and just it must not
infringe on the basic rights and liberties of a person, nor give advantage to any one group but to all
with positions and offers available to all equally. In reference to the Ford Pinto, the second statement
is upheld. The Pinto being a relatively cheap car which was often a starter vehicle, and as long as a
person had the funds and a driver s license, they could own the vehicle. So the design process general
design itself was both fair and ethical to Rawls when regarding the second of his two theories of
justice. The first theory can be up to interpretation. The only rights or liberties that might have been
infringed upon are those of safety

Analysis Of The Transformation Of Home Depot
Organization transformation is one of the ways companies can reinvent themselves to survive a crisis.
However, organization transformations don t always work for some companies. The purpose of this
paper is to discuss the positive and negative changes that took place at Home Depot during the time
Bob Nardelli was CEO. The writer will discuss current performance and other company information.
And last, the writer will conclude with a Christian worldview regarding Home Depot s transformation
and present success. Bob Nardelli s top down approach that he was used to for so many years at
General Electric was not the path to take for Home Depot (Brown, 2011). The managers at Home
Depot were used to being independent and decentralized. They were not used to taking orders from
the corporate office. In fact, they had always made their own decisions doing what they thought would
work best for their stores. Because of Home Depot s entrepreneurial culture that they were
accustomed to for twenty two years, the stores would not survive a top down approach to change.
Moreover, a change that drastic would have to be strategically done to have any success. Nardelli,
coming from a background of structured management, failed to realize that what worked for one
organization might not work for another. Home Depot was known to have an unstructured and
entrepreneurial type of culture, entirely different from GE where Nardelli had previously worked
(Brown, 2011). Therefore,

Analysis Of Peter Singer s Argument On Famine, Affluence,...
I m a strong believer in that anyone can make their own choices in life. There is no such thing as
moral obligation in my books, however there does exist courtesy or kind heartedness. Peter Singer s
argument regarding famine, affluence, and morality is, in my opinion, strongly influenced by
sympathetic and empathetic feelings based on observations in a still developing country. In a sense,
his reasoning is subjective and biased because he seems to focus only on the problem, and not the
circumstances that could have prevented such problems from the beginning. I will elaborate on some
of the loopholes in his arguments, and further clarify why the more fortunate people (in terms of
wealth) should NOT be morally obligated to help the poor, rather they should have the choice of being
courteous or kind, and they should have the freedom to spend the money they worked so hard for
according to their own agenda. To start, I would like to establish that suffering and death from lack of
food and other necessities is indeed a bad thing. There is no counter argument to that statement.
However, the problem lies in the second and third premises, which states that (2) if it is in our power
to prevent something bad from happening, then we have a moral duty to do it; (3) therefore, we have a
moral duty to help the poor. According to Singer, the second premise is comprised of a strong and
weak argument. The strong argument states that the wealthy people should help the poor people at a

Theme Of Orientism In A Passage To India
Foster discusses the possibility of interaction between the East and the West. Literature forms a major
part in the interaction between nations. The concept of the West on the East is that they are simply
barbarians, uncultured and illiterates and meant to be ruled and controlled. The West considers the
East as orients and in literal an image of the Other . The basic idea of orientalism is that east is what is
not west but it is mysterious, holy, dark, strange, attractive and barbaric. In their concept and
perception, East is unreasonable and people there are not themselves and therefore need to be ruled.

Capital Punishment Should Be Eliminated
Throughout the history of humanity, punishments have been in place for the wrongful acts of citizens
within governmental systems of all kinds. In America during the early days of the country, the death
penalty was a more viable solution than it appears today due to the quality of the prisons, which
couldn t sustain prisoners long term. (Von Drehle, 2015). Today, this is not an issue with prisons that
are provided both by the state and federal governments and that are fully capable of holding offenders
throughout the length of a life sentence (Von Drehle, 2015). However, many will argue that capital
punishment should be eliminated. Foes of the death penalty are split into two groups with one that
argues that capital punishment should and will cease based upon public support, that it doesn t deter
crime, and the current processes of executions are too costly and problematic. The other will take a
more humanitarian approach and claim that it is not the role of the government to decide the fate of an
individual, and that crimes punishable by death are not justifiable. Determent, morals, severity of the
crime, and revenge are among the many arguments that are geared in favor of protecting a centuries
old government system. These groups give more pragmatic reasons as arguments. Currently, the
United States is alone among other democracies by not being in similar standing as western European
countries, such as Germany and France, where the death penalty has been completely

Using Adaptive Response Surface Regression
3 Methodology
The developed optimisation routine makes use of adaptive response surface regression to use a limited
initial amount of FE models to feed an optimisation routine which is specifically designed for general
thermal problems where parameters linked to the general heat equation can be optimised or estimated
using experimental input data. The algorithm uses a pan and zoom function to move through the
design space and delivers faster predictions with fewer iterations than standard updating routines [35,
41].
3.1 Adaptive response surface method
The adaptive response surface optimisation routine is used to optimise numerical models with lots of
data points and the time reducing by the algorithm increases as the number of parameters rises [40].
The routine is designed to handle multiple output time series data [35]. The optimisation procedure
can be divided into the following steps:
1. Starting reference simulation points is running and a correct object function is built of the difference
between the FE model and the target value (experiment or validation model).
2. The FE model is replaced by a meta model of response surfaces to decrease the optimisation time
but remains an accurate approximation.
3. The optimisation routine is run on a specific object function. It is possible to use multiple objective
functions or build an objective function related to multiple outputs.
4. The estimated parameter values are used as input parameters for a new FE model that

Analysis Of The Book Great Expectations
Letter Essay, Great Expectations By Leona Markose One of the books I have recently read is Great
Expectations by Charles Dickens. It introduces the reader a rather unique approach into the subject of
social class. Throughout the book, Pip, the main character is faced with many challenges that shape
him into who he is. We first meet Pip on Christmas eve around the 1800s. While out in the church
graveyard to pray across the graves of his late family, Pip meets an escaped convict. His eyes wide in
fear, he listens as the convict demands that he steal food and a file for him. Pip, extremely shaken,
goes home (where he lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He regularly visits the Satis House until Miss.Havisham informs him that he is of age to learn a trade.
At the final meeting, Miss.Havisham gives the money for Pip to be bound as an apprentice blacksmith.
So, Joe starts teaching Pip the ways of his trade. One fateful day while they are away at work, Mrs.
Joe is brutally attacked, leaving her unable to speak and a little out of her mind. Biddy, a bright and
lively girl arrives to help with her care and becomes a blessing to the household . (pg 110) During Pip
s apprenticeship to Joe, Mr. Jaggers, a lawyer, approaches him in the village. He gives surprising news
that Pip has expectations from a benefactor. Apparently this benefactor has arranged money to be left
for Pip to learn the true ways of a gentleman. The benefactor s name is to remain anonymous until that
person is ready to speak up. It has been arranged that Pip must leave for London the following week.
Before leaving, Pip assumes that the only possible person who could be this benefactor is Miss
Havisham. He visits her to say goodbye once and for all. Before leaving he bids Biddy a farewell. In it
he says, `If I could only get myself to fall in love with you, you don t mind my speaking so openly to
such an old acquaintance? `Oh dear, not at all! said Biddy. `Don t mind me. `If I could only get myself
to do it, that would be

Psalm 95 Analysis
Over the past several weeks in class, we have been looking at different psalms, and learning how to
interpret what the psalms mean. We ve explored what the psalms say about God, people, and the
relationship between the two. We ve also explored the different functions contained in the psalms, and
identified the expressions of emotions contained in the various psalms. In this week s reflective paper,
I will be reflecting on Psalms 95 and 100. I will discuss the type and genre used in each psalm, the
structure of the psalm, the type parallelisms being used, the figures of speech, and the main ideal
displayed in each psalm.
Lets begin with psalm 95. Psalm 95 is considered a descriptive praise psalm. The main ideal of this
psalm is a call to worship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This psalm is also a descriptive praise psalm. The genre is thanksgiving. (Kidner, 2008, p. 388). A
song of thankful praise brings this group of homage psalms up to an unclouded summit after
alternations of exuberance and awe I would structure this psalm with verses 1 2 being a call to praise,
verse 3 being the cause of praise, verse 4 being another call to praise, and lastly verse 5 being a cause
to praise. In Psalm 95:3 know that the Lord himself is God; It is he who has made us, and not we
ourselves; We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. There is a metaphor being used with we are
the sheep of his pasture. There is synonymous parallelism is verses 2, serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before him with joyful singing. Enter his gates is synonymous with his courts and with
thanksgiving and with praise is also synonymous in psalm 95:4. Lastly in psalm 95:5 there is more
examples of synonymous parallelism with his lovingkindness and his faithfulness, and is everlasting
to all generations. If the psalm began by broadening our horizon, it ends by lengthening our view and
expectations (Kidner, 2008, p.

Where Did Amelia Earhart Go
Ever since her attempt to fly around the world, people have been dazzled by the mysterious question
still hanging in the air: Where did Amelia Earhart go?
Here s a little background information, in case you ve never heard of the world famous Amelia
Earhart. Amelia Earhart was one of the first woman pilots to surf the air. She was also the first female
pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. While she was attempting to be the first female to fly around the
world, she mysteriously disappeared into thin air.
Recently, a theory has dropped down from the clouds saying that she didn t actually die from a plane

Romeo And Juliet Figurative Language
William Shakespeare was a 16th century playwright that wrote many famous plays. One of his most
famous plays is called Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet is about star crossed lovers from rival
families. Shakespeare uses figurative language to highlight main themes such as love, death, and
foolhardiness. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare highlights love through the use of
hyperbole, imagery, similes and metaphors. Romeo and Juliet is a play about two star crossed lovers
from rival families that die trying to be together. In a story, a theme is an idea that is constantly
referenced throughout that story. The theme of love is shown multiple times in Romeo and Juliet
through hyperbole, imagery, similes, and metaphors. Hyperbole is the ... Show more content on

In Romeo and Juliet, similes compare two ideas to prove a point. When Romeo first sees Juliet, he
says As a rich jewel in an Ethiop s ear (Act 1, Scene 5, Line 53). Romeo is saying that Juliet is the
most beautiful person in the room and conveys that through a simile. During the balcony scene, Juliet
says My bounty is as boundless as the sea/ My love as deep (Act 2, Scene 2, Lines 140 141). Juliet
compares her love for Romeo to the depth of a sea through a simile. These quotes show that the love
between Romeo and Juliet is extremely deep. They also show how easy it is to express emotion

Exhibition Review – Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Essay
Exhibition Review Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery
Dale Chihuly is an American artist, born September 20th, 1941 who is known for his glass sculptures.
One of his most well known pieces is the blue and green glass sculpture hanging in the front entrance
of the Victoria Albert Museum in London (figure 1). His work has included over 200 museum
collections worldwide, and I visited his exhibition in the Halcyon Gallery on New Bond Street in
London on the 23rd of January 2012.
The entire exhibition was made up of glass sculptures fitting into several different genres created by
the artist; for example Seaforms , Persians , both created in the 1980 s, and Fiori , which he created in
the 2000 s. Chihuly explored a variety of glass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the pieces were 3D, standing out from the wall, interesting coloured shadows and highlights were
created with the lighting on the white walls. The viewers could walk beneath the pieces to view the
underneath of each bowl like disc, and see the detail of different coloured glass swirled into the piece.
The curving edges of the discs created a natural feel to the piece, softening it.
Another part of the exhibition that I found visually stimulating were the Basket themed pieces, created
in the 1970 s, as I thought their smooth edges and insides captured and reflected the lights really
effectively (figures 8 and 9). I also really liked the multiple baskets stacked inside one another,
showing how Chihuly can handcraft the basket shapes on a variety of scales. The lip wrap on each
basket is often a contrasting colour, developed from the tradition of Venetian glassmaking, and is a
trademark of Chihuly s work. I feel the bold colour lip wraps help to draw the viewer s eye into the
centre of the baskets, revealing the smaller baskets within.
I really liked the contrast in the colour of the two chandelier pieces in the windows of the Halcyon
Gallery (figures 10 and 11). The deep red and blues within the Cranberry and Clear Chandelier and the
Dusky Sky Chandelier draw the attention of passers by, encouraging you to step closer and view the
intricacies of each handcrafted piece of the two chandeliers. I feel they were the ideal pieces of work

My Desire For An Electric Guitar
Ever since I was younger I had this urge to play various instruments. No one in my family played an
instrument so there was no influence there for me. The only muse I had was from music and the
television shows that I watched. Moreover, from that influence I thought all the people who knows
how to play an instrument are remarkably nifty. The quality of sounds that the musicians are able to
produce made me feel like I was put into a trance. The intense passion that the musicians produced
gave me an itch to recreate the same feeling for myself to ignite something within me. Thus, the four
instruments that I have acquired over time, but haunts me from being left untouched for a prolonged
time.
Around the age of seven, my family and I went to the mall that included a music store. I would roam
all around the store to experiment with almost every instruments that were put on display. This led to
the first instrument that I got, which was an electric guitar. I would continually beg my mother for it,
promising that I will be the most exceptional child ever. Now I don t fully recall as to why I had a
desire for an electric guitar, but I do remember there was a time in my life that my brothers and I
wanted to form a band. Which was a ridiculous idea because neither of us knew how to play an
instrument or how to sing, so our band would have been a tremendous fiasco. I was ecstatic with the
new guitar I received that as soon as we came home I went berserk upon opening it. I even have

  • 2. Racial Profiling Complications Complications Faced in a Partial Society Throughout history, the issue of racial equality has caused members of ethnic minorities to suffer for decades. Many people of color have struggled to obtain their civil liberties and achieve social justice within their community when faced with bigotry and prejudice based on their ethnicity. The United States, a nation where immigrants make up two tenths of the population, still suffers from this issue today amongst many ethnic and racial minorities from police officials who practice the idea of racial profiling when interrogating potential suspects (Kirk). Racial profiling has been intensified since the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Arabs, Muslims, and South Asians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it may seem that the concept might not exist because it is often referred to the idea of racist perspectives and judgments. According to retired professional basketball player Charles Barkley, he mentioned in a CNN interview that we as black people, we have a lot of crooks. We can t just wait until something threatens or hurts a person of minority. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and continues stating that there is a reason that they racially profile us in the way they do. Sometimes it is wrong, and sometimes it is right (Cobb). Barkley s statement presents the idea that racial profiling is utilized toward certain racial groups and ethnic minorities through the idea of implicit stereotypes where groups are categorized based on their qualities and social features. He wants the black community to understand that they are cast away from other racial groups because of how they are recognized both physically and stereotypically. The idea of racial profiling is used in certain circumstances to show that police officials will use their racial insight to identify an individual who would be suspected of committing illegal acts based on their racial identity or religious background. In addition, Rudolph Giuliani addressed on a Fox News Sunday interview that the relationship between police officers and the black community have poor interaction with one another because of the police department s lack of responsibility to properly train their officers and to diversify the department (Cobb). However, Giuliani also adds that it is the black community s responsibility to understand the reason why police officers gather in large groups within their community. Statistics show that African Americans commit eight times as many murders compared to other racial groups (Cobb). It is important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Importance Of Girl Scouting How has Girl Scouting helped you develop courage, confidence, and character? (250) When I started Girl Scouting as a Daisy, I saw myself as shy and young. While those descriptors were accurate, I no longer use them. Girl Scouting taught me that I, like every girl in my troop, had the potential to be more. Someone who does not understand girl scouting might not know the distinctions between daisies and brownies, or Cadettes and seniors other than the difference in the color of the uniforms. However, I distinctly remember the importance of the bridging ceremony when I became a Brownie. It was significant to me because I had seen the example which other Brownies before me had set and I was eager to leave the same impression on girls younger ... My project was only successful because of the contributions made by members of my team. However, being a leader of this team was challenging. I had intentionally made a team with a diverse group of people who could offer insightful perspectives. However, I did not anticipate how difficult it would be to loosen my grip on the creative control of the project. Before beginning the construction of the kits, I had a clear vision for the majority of the kits. Even though it was challenging for me to accept, this project taught me that being a leader is more than telling people what to do; it is about bringing people and ideas together while maintaining structure and organization. At the end of the day, I could not be happier with how the kits turned out since so many people on my team had such fantastic ideas. Additionally, after I learned to trust the capabilities of the people I was working with, I was able to be a better leader because I was in a position to make the entire project more efficient by talking to my peers rather than at them. I am really excited about how well my Girl Scout Gold Award has been received. The day that I brought the boxes into the school, I saw how interested the kids were in what I ... • 4. Summary Of The Southern Chivalry ]Basil also has the power of a Southern gentleman on his side. His physical description includes his, ... superior forehead... (James 4) in his line up of the Southern charm qualities. Even though this book was published in 1886, the modern reader still must remember that the Civil War relevance is included in this novel, as is the imagery of slavery. Basil s image was not for want of relevant details of slavery, but the troubling resonance constitutes a strong critique of a system within which humans could be whipped, shackled, bought and sold . Olive Chancellor thinks Basil is someone who no doubt, desired to treat women with the lash and manacles, as he and his people had formerly treated the whole wretched colored race (164) (Hochman 274 275). Olive and Verena are not the only women that Basil influences under his power. Mrs. Luna also sees it, and believes it. Mrs. Luna may not be the most influenced by his power, but, She appealed to his Southern chivalry, and not in vain; practically at least, he admitted the rights of women, (James 90). He may admit them, but does not believe them. He is afraid it threatens his power. Outside of Boston, across the river to Connecticut, there is another man who has a force of power to his name, even though he is not in Connecticut. Many parties see the need of employing communication professionals to develop a more efficient campaign with favourly publicity. These communication professionals are known as the spin doctor or Public Relations (PR) expert in dealing with the mass media to mobilize and steer public opinion (Louw, 2010). This article addresses the role and the relationship of spin doctoring with other players take part in mass media, with two case studies demonstrated: one being successful and one being unsuccessful spin. The successful spin will be shown using the example of the Islamic State Group in Syria and Iraq (ISIS). On the other hand, the unsuccessful one will be using the handling case of the missing plane, Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. A summary of the key concepts relevant to this article will also be provided, followed by what led to the success and the failure of the two campaigns mentioned will be analyzed. The term spin doctor consists of a symbolic relationship with journalists and mass media. Both need each other in order to generate and disseminate information within the media machine. A good spin team knows what works is the best to hook the intended audiences, be it a mass audience or the journalist (Louw, 2010). George Orwell, the author of Animal Farm and Barry Levinson director of the Cinematic production Wag the Dog both explore in their texts the corruption of society. With in the texts both authors key ideas are explored to exposing Corruption and to highlight how powers use manipulation and half truths to gain and retain control. To make their ideas prudent to the audience, Orwell and Levinson make use of various literary and filmic techniques, most prominent of these in both texts is the use of Irony. These texts influence the audience directly to consider the potential folly of human forms of governance, which is timely to society in our day. Both Orwell and Levinson explore the ways in which social ideals are corrupted for personal power. Orwell depicts Animal farm s fall into corruption through the narrative perspective of the working animals where as Levinson exposes the already set corruption through a narrative perspective of The Fixers. In Orwell s text he explores the corruption of the animals ideals of Animalism, similarly Levinson depicts a country s corruption of the ideals of truth. The ability to bring a story to life on a big screen, using technology is magic. To be able to use a camera and transform an idea into reality has allowed one to visualize written words. The movie industry is a broad and vast field, but has transformed, connected, and influenced the way one see s reality. These movies have the ability to transforms an idea into a moving picture by the use of technology, allowing one to connect to the story, and influence in the way one perceives it. The movement of pictures, or movies as they are now called, dates back to the late 1800s . With the introduction of these moving pictures and the technology that was used to make, these movies have changed the world as one view it. Today movies are as easy to access through phones, televisions, and at the movies theaters; however, does the easy access of viewing movies through one s phone affect the making of these movies and the movie industry (The History of Motion Pictures, n.d.)? • 8. Socrates s Views On Philosophy And It s Influences... Perhaps in the present moment, there would have been no such information on philosophy and it s influences without the existence of Socrates. Socrates was an individual who was acknowledged as an eminent philosopher. We have received his intelligence from others who have documented his speeches, due to the fact that in the past, he had not personally recorded himself. I find it rather intriguing that despite the fact that Socrates, alongside his pupils, have endured life many years ago, it is still pertinent in todays society. I have appointed myself to compose about Socrates s dialogue on The Apology . Socrates is notorious for his wisdom, in conjunction with his competence to prevail upon you that your dictums are spurious and that his, in fact, are equitable. I have also come to the agreement to write about The Apology by reason of that this is the closest to him that we will ever get too. Additionally, The Apology is inherently the inauguration of Western Philosophy. Socrates is known for his capability to arouse conversation among others. He produces this method in which he essentially forces each person in the discussion to think twice before they supply others with their remarks. His method is also a form dialogue, which is where you bequeath material and take away material. In The Apology , Socrates generates a speech in the vicinity of the trial in which he is charged with not recognizing the Gods, inventing new Gods, dishonoring the current Gods, and with ... The school where Torey Hayden taught wasn t too sure that they would be able to find Sheila a home and she would soon be sent to a state hospital. During the time that Torey and Sheila had together, Sheila began developing into a pleasant and prosperous child that loved to learn and was very intelligent. Also, at this time Sheila grew closer to her classmates and began to have bonded with others. Torey Hayden stated, I taught what was affectionately referred to in our school district as the garbage class. She was given little to work with but was expected to do her job just like every teacher in school. This led people to start thinking outside of the box. Many people started questioning why somethings were the way they were. As a result many philosophers emerged in the pre Socratic times. Many people did not understand the world around them back in those times. Gods were created for various reasons so that they can help explain certain phenomenons. • 12. False Ideas Regarding the Extict Dodo Bird Just less than 64 100 years after its discovery by Europeans, the Dodo bird vanished completely from existence. Unsurprisingly, this bird has gained the image of a creature that was poorly adapted. The bulk of the arguments used to support this widespread belief are that Dodos were flightless and fearless as well as supposedly being fat, stupid, clumsy, and slow. Although these features are seen as disadvantages, they were actually evolutionary adaptations or are myths. Ultimately, we can not say the Dodo bird was as poorly adapted as we thought. The Dodo s lack of flight can be justified as an evolutionary adaptation. Due to its isolation, Mauritius had its own unique ecosystem that was absent of predators. Without predators, the Dodo had no need to flee by flying. Dodos did not need to fly to reach its food either. The Dodo s diet consisted mostly of fruit, nuts and seeds. As there was abundance of this sustenance in Mauritius, flying was unnecessary as food was fairly accessible. Since there was no need to fly, it would be a waste of energy and a hindrance for the Dodo and thus, being flightless was an adaptation for the Dodo. Again, due to lack of predators, the Dodo evolved to become fearless. Seeing as nothing hunted it, it had no need to flee as the minimal danger in Mauritius did not merit this. In fact, fleeing away when there was no predator would be a useless expenditure of energy and would only pose to be an impediment for it. Thus, like flying, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As she said, I paint self portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the subject I know best. She probably could perform an in depth self analysis through a mirror as she spent several of her time alone lying in bed (Kettenmann Andrea, 2002). In this painting, she is emphasizing her existence through a young self, standing behind a small tree, holding a ribbon connecting her grandparents and parents. Her lineage can be revealed by taking a look at her genealogy. In the painting, Kahlo s maternal Indian grandfather and maternal Spanish grandmother stand next to her mother. A European couple, who are her paternal grandparents, is next to her father. Kahlo is expressing her dual lineage by painting two different backgrounds on the left and right sides, and is drawing attention to her existence by describing herself as an insecure child. Just as Rip Van Winkle struggled to find his freedom and identity, the new nation also struggled to find their own freedom and identity. In this story, the character of Rip Van Winkle represents the colonies, Dame Van Winkle represents England, and the villagers represent the American citizens. This indicates that the new nation without England s authority was more prosperous, even though some aspects were ruined in the process of war. Irving writes, The very character of the people seemed changed. There was a busy, bustling, disputatious tone about it, instead of the accustomed phlegm and drowsy tranquility (51). Some readers may argue that the new nation is not as good as the colonies because life is faster paced and people are more involved rather than a more relaxed society, however life is more lively and full. There is more ambition and interest in life and government, as opposed to the apathy that existed before the revolution. While no longer tranquil, there was more engagement from the citizens. The purpose for this article is to answer the questions about Kangaroo Care and note the variety of benefits that it can do for infants. In addition, this article recognizes the benefit Kangaroo Care has on third world nations and that this natural treatment can help the infants that do not have access to the health care system. When Hurricane Katrina struck on August 25th, 2005, the United States government was not readily prepared for such an immense disaster. The mismanagement of relief efforts by the U.S. government led to a lack of adequate assistance to U.S. victims along with a prolonged restoration period for those in need. Had the government accepted more foreign aid and further prepared for the storm, hurricane Katrina may not have proved such a disaster in our nation s history. As the G.A.O. stated, it exacted terrible human costs with the loss of significant number of lives and resulted in billions of dollars in property damage (GAO 2006). Faster aid and relief to the victims of Katrina was a possibility that did not occur due to the lack of preparation and acceptance of aid by the United States government. Government Action In a time of crisis, the government response to the situation at hand was poor and inefficient. There were numerous flaws and errors in the relief plan proposed to the government which in turn led to delayed relief to victims in need. The immediate response phase after Katrina lasted roughly 12 days. During this time, victims were evacuated, rescued, sheltered, and received medical care from first responders, charities and other non governmental organizations, and private citizens (McNeill, 2011). The fact that the U.S. government organizations were not the first responders to the disaster is shameful for our country. Regarded as one of the most controversial and polarizing military conflicts in U.S. history, the Vietnam War has left a deep and lasting impact on American culture, politics, and foreign policy. From 1964 to the present day, the Vietnam War redefined the scope of U.S. influence both at home and abroad, and caused a fundamental shift in American society that dramatically changed the way in which Americans viewed their government and the role of the United States as a world power. For an entire generation of Americans, who watched as the horrors of the war in Vietnam unfold before the spotlight of the national media, the Vietnam War directly challenged the superiority of the American way and the infallibility of U.S military dominance. In truth, the U.S government, U.S. military, and the American people as a whole struggled to accept the lessons of America s greatest military failure and the sobering reality of the war s consequences. To this day, the legacy of this so called American War continues to resonate throughout the fabric of American society as a cautionary tale of U.S foreign intervention and blind acceptance of open ended conflict. For the United States government, the failure of U.S intervention in Vietnam provided lessons about where and under what circumstances the United States should intervene in foreign conflicts. • 28. Comparing Kubrick s Film And Burgess Essay A difference and slight similarity between Kubrick s Film and Burgess novella is the narration. In both, Alex is the narrator and uses Nadsat vocabulary to describe his acts of violence, however, the film narrative is perceived as less powerful as the novella. In the book, Alex s narration accentuates his cruelty, pleasure, and lack of remorse. His pleasure is highlighted in the book displaying his dark thoughts, making the novella A Clockwork Orange appear to be a more grotesque piece in language than the film. This is evident in an act of violence, the raping of two ten year old girls. In the film, Alex has what appears to be consensual sex with two women around or a few youngers than himself, that the met in a record store. In the novel, he meets two ten year old girls instead and purchases them some food in addition. He then convinces them to come with him where they become intoxicated and he rapes them. Many residents said they were unhappy with the services that they are receiving from cops at 31 Division and would not report a crime if they witnessed one or were victims of one (Share News, 2009). Dennis Gioia was recall coordinator at Ford Motor Company in the early 1970s when the company decided not to recall the Pinto despite dangerous fires that were killing the occupants of vehicles involved in low impact rear end collisions. By cutting costs, Ford knowingly created a product which could prove dangerous and fatal to its consumers. Does Ford s ends justify its means? Ford did create a sub compact that sold extremely well and competed fiercely with foreign imports. The goal of the Ford Pinto was met. The costs of this win were substantial however. The money that Ford tried to save by not recalling the vehicle was spent when Ford recalled the Pinto, and extra was spent in compensatory and punitive damages in lawsuits. So the costs that Ford tried to avoid were incurred anyway along with extra. A similar ethical concept to Utilitarianism is that of Rawl s Theory of Justice. Within his theories he states that for something to be both ethical and just it must not infringe on the basic rights and liberties of a person, nor give advantage to any one group but to all with positions and offers available to all equally. In reference to the Ford Pinto, the second statement is upheld. However, organization transformations don t always work for some companies. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the positive and negative changes that took place at Home Depot during the time Bob Nardelli was CEO. The writer will discuss current performance and other company information. And last, the writer will conclude with a Christian worldview regarding Home Depot s transformation and present success. Bob Nardelli s top down approach that he was used to for so many years at General Electric was not the path to take for Home Depot (Brown, 2011). The managers at Home Depot were used to being independent and decentralized. They were not used to taking orders from the corporate office. In fact, they had always made their own decisions doing what they thought would work best for their stores. Because of Home Depot s entrepreneurial culture that they were accustomed to for twenty two years, the stores would not survive a top down approach to change. Moreover, a change that drastic would have to be strategically done to have any success. Nardelli, coming from a background of structured management, failed to realize that what worked for one organization might not work for another. There is no such thing as moral obligation in my books, however there does exist courtesy or kind heartedness. Peter Singer s argument regarding famine, affluence, and morality is, in my opinion, strongly influenced by sympathetic and empathetic feelings based on observations in a still developing country. In a sense, his reasoning is subjective and biased because he seems to focus only on the problem, and not the circumstances that could have prevented such problems from the beginning. I will elaborate on some of the loopholes in his arguments, and further clarify why the more fortunate people (in terms of wealth) should NOT be morally obligated to help the poor, rather they should have the choice of being courteous or kind, and they should have the freedom to spend the money they worked so hard for according to their own agenda. To start, I would like to establish that suffering and death from lack of food and other necessities is indeed a bad thing. There is no counter argument to that statement. However, the problem lies in the second and third premises, which states that (2) if it is in our power to prevent something bad from happening, then we have a moral duty to do it; (3) therefore, we have a moral duty to help the poor. According to Singer, the second premise is comprised of a strong and weak argument. The strong argument states that the wealthy people should help the poor people at a ... In the beginning of the novel, the characters are discussing as to whether it is possible to be friends with the English man or not. Further it brings to picture the existence of bribe, which the British people practised in India. They accept it and do nothing. Mrs. Moore says, The English are out here to be pleasant . Mrs. Moore is a British woman who has perfect understanding of India and has good understanding of the Indians. Mrs. Moore and Adela are the British women who come to India to understand the real India: India is really for older. They present caves as dark caves . Even when they open towards the sun, very little light penetrates down the entrance tunnel into the circular chamber. This states that the country is still in darkness without light of freedom and selfhood. Cave represents the country. While Aziz talks to Mrs. Moore and Miss Quested, they converse about the Mughal emperors, Babur, Humayun, Akbar and Aurangzeb. Akbar never repented of the new religion he invented instead of the Holy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To be discriminated as the plague behind all creation s problems. To be stereotyped as the face of the oppressors. The fear was so overwhelming and overpowering, as if my stomach was rotting away, with whatever dignity that remained of me being eaten by blood thirsty parasites. I could only pray for the Earth beneath me to crack wide open and swallow me into an eternal abyss away from this trembling terror. It was the perfect setting for a perfect day. Amidst the enjoyment, our group leader was approached by a homeless woman, who requested for spare change in order to buy water to quench her thirst. The group leader gave twenty euros to the homeless man like it was just a simple day to day routine. • 40. How Did Andy Warhol Influence The Pop Art Culture Andy Warhol, is one of the major influences of the Pop Art Culture. Everything started when he was born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andy was a successful magazine and ad illustrator who became an artist of the 1960s Pop art movements. He made made art based off a wide variety of art forms. Some art forms included performance art, filmmaking, video installations and writing, and blurred the lines between art and aesthetics. He was first recognized for his ability to give a regular art form either a change in for or a different vibe by adding a different color scheme. For example, he used the production of Campbell s soup commercial art to promote his vision and interpretation of art. Art to Warhol was determined more by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Capital Punishment Should Be Eliminated Throughout the history of humanity, punishments have been in place for the wrongful acts of citizens within governmental systems of all kinds. In America during the early days of the country, the death penalty was a more viable solution than it appears today due to the quality of the prisons, which couldn t sustain prisoners long term. (Von Drehle, 2015). Today, this is not an issue with prisons that are provided both by the state and federal governments and that are fully capable of holding offenders throughout the length of a life sentence (Von Drehle, 2015). However, many will argue that capital punishment should be eliminated. Foes of the death penalty are split into two groups with one that argues that capital punishment should and will cease based upon public support, that it doesn t deter crime, and the current processes of executions are too costly and problematic. The other will take a more humanitarian approach and claim that it is not the role of the government to decide the fate of an individual, and that crimes punishable by death are not justifiable. Determent, morals, severity of the crime, and revenge are among the many arguments that are geared in favor of protecting a centuries old government system. These groups give more pragmatic reasons as arguments. Currently, the United States is alone among other democracies by not being in similar standing as western European countries, such as Germany and France, where the death penalty has been completely ... • 42. Using Adaptive Response Surface Regression 3 Methodology The developed optimisation routine makes use of adaptive response surface regression to use a limited initial amount of FE models to feed an optimisation routine which is specifically designed for general thermal problems where parameters linked to the general heat equation can be optimised or estimated using experimental input data. The algorithm uses a pan and zoom function to move through the design space and delivers faster predictions with fewer iterations than standard updating routines [35, 41]. 3.1 Adaptive response surface method The adaptive response surface optimisation routine is used to optimise numerical models with lots of data points and the time reducing by the algorithm increases as the number of parameters rises [40]. The routine is designed to handle multiple output time series data [35]. The optimisation procedure can be divided into the following steps: 1. Starting reference simulation points is running and a correct object function is built of the difference between the FE model and the target value (experiment or validation model). 2. The FE model is replaced by a meta model of response surfaces to decrease the optimisation time but remains an accurate approximation. 3. The optimisation routine is run on a specific object function. It is possible to use multiple objective functions or build an objective function related to multiple outputs. 4. The estimated parameter values are used as input parameters for a new FE model that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Analysis Of The Book Great Expectations Letter Essay, Great Expectations By Leona Markose One of the books I have recently read is Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. It introduces the reader a rather unique approach into the subject of social class. Throughout the book, Pip, the main character is faced with many challenges that shape him into who he is. We first meet Pip on Christmas eve around the 1800s. While out in the church graveyard to pray across the graves of his late family, Pip meets an escaped convict. His eyes wide in fear, he listens as the convict demands that he steal food and a file for him. Pip, extremely shaken, goes home (where he lives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One fateful day while they are away at work, Mrs. Joe is brutally attacked, leaving her unable to speak and a little out of her mind. Biddy, a bright and lively girl arrives to help with her care and becomes a blessing to the household . (pg 110) During Pip s apprenticeship to Joe, Mr. Jaggers, a lawyer, approaches him in the village. He gives surprising news that Pip has expectations from a benefactor. Apparently this benefactor has arranged money to be left for Pip to learn the true ways of a gentleman. The benefactor s name is to remain anonymous until that person is ready to speak up. It has been arranged that Pip must leave for London the following week. Before leaving, Pip assumes that the only possible person who could be this benefactor is Miss Havisham. He visits her to say goodbye once and for all. Before leaving he bids Biddy a farewell. In it he says, `If I could only get myself to fall in love with you, you don t mind my speaking so openly to such an old acquaintance? `Oh dear, not at all! said Biddy. `Don t mind me. `If I could only get myself to do it, that would be ... • 44. Psalm 95 Analysis Over the past several weeks in class, we have been looking at different psalms, and learning how to interpret what the psalms mean. We ve explored what the psalms say about God, people, and the relationship between the two. We ve also explored the different functions contained in the psalms, and identified the expressions of emotions contained in the various psalms. In this week s reflective paper, I will be reflecting on Psalms 95 and 100. I will discuss the type and genre used in each psalm, the structure of the psalm, the type parallelisms being used, the figures of speech, and the main ideal displayed in each psalm. Lets begin with psalm 95. Psalm 95 is considered a descriptive praise psalm. The main ideal of this psalm is a call to worship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This psalm is also a descriptive praise psalm. The genre is thanksgiving. (Kidner, 2008, p. 388). A song of thankful praise brings this group of homage psalms up to an unclouded summit after alternations of exuberance and awe I would structure this psalm with verses 1 2 being a call to praise, verse 3 being the cause of praise, verse 4 being another call to praise, and lastly verse 5 being a cause to praise. In Psalm 95:3 know that the Lord himself is God; It is he who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. There is a metaphor being used with we are the sheep of his pasture. There is synonymous parallelism is verses 2, serve the Lord with gladness; Come before him with joyful singing. Enter his gates is synonymous with his courts and with thanksgiving and with praise is also synonymous in psalm 95:4. Lastly in psalm 95:5 there is more examples of synonymous parallelism with his lovingkindness and his faithfulness, and is everlasting to all generations. If the psalm began by broadening our horizon, it ends by lengthening our view and expectations (Kidner, 2008, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exhibition Review – Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Essay Exhibition Review Dale Chihuly, the Halcyon Gallery Dale Chihuly is an American artist, born September 20th, 1941 who is known for his glass sculptures. One of his most well known pieces is the blue and green glass sculpture hanging in the front entrance of the Victoria Albert Museum in London (figure 1). His work has included over 200 museum collections worldwide, and I visited his exhibition in the Halcyon Gallery on New Bond Street in London on the 23rd of January 2012. The curving edges of the discs created a natural feel to the piece, softening it. Another part of the exhibition that I found visually stimulating were the Basket themed pieces, created in the 1970 s, as I thought their smooth edges and insides captured and reflected the lights really effectively (figures 8 and 9). I also really liked the multiple baskets stacked inside one another, showing how Chihuly can handcraft the basket shapes on a variety of scales. The lip wrap on each basket is often a contrasting colour, developed from the tradition of Venetian glassmaking, and is a trademark of Chihuly s work. I feel the bold colour lip wraps help to draw the viewer s eye into the centre of the baskets, revealing the smaller baskets within. I really liked the contrast in the colour of the two chandelier pieces in the windows of the Halcyon Gallery (figures 10 and 11). • 49. My Desire For An Electric Guitar Ever since I was younger I had this urge to play various instruments. No one in my family played an instrument so there was no influence there for me. The only muse I had was from music and the television shows that I watched. Moreover, from that influence I thought all the people who knows how to play an instrument are remarkably nifty. The quality of sounds that the musicians are able to produce made me feel like I was put into a trance. The intense passion that the musicians produced gave me an itch to recreate the same feeling for myself to ignite something within me. Thus, the four instruments that I have acquired over time, but haunts me from being left untouched for a prolonged time. Around the age of seven, my family and I went to the mall that included a music store. I would roam all around the store to experiment with almost every instruments that were put on display. This led to the first instrument that I got, which was an electric guitar. I would continually beg my mother for it, promising that I will be the most exceptional child ever. Now I don t fully recall as to why I had a desire for an electric guitar, but I do remember there was a time in my life that my brothers and I wanted to form a band. Which was a ridiculous idea because neither of us knew how to play an instrument or how to sing, so our band would have been a tremendous fiasco. I was ecstatic with the new guitar I received that as soon as we came home I went berserk upon opening it. I even have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
