Of Mice And Men Essay Question
Crafting an essay on the topic "Of Mice and Men" can present a unique set of challenges. Firstly,
the novel itself by John Steinbeck is rich in thematic elements and nuanced characters,
demanding a comprehensive understanding of the text. Analyzing the intricate relationships
between characters such as George and Lennie, grappling with the socio-economic backdrop of
the Great Depression, and delving into the dreams that shape the narrative requires a keen
literary insight.
Moreover, addressing the essay question necessitates the ability to articulate a cohesive and
well-structured argument. This involves organizing thoughts logically, providing textual evidence
to support claims, and seamlessly integrating literary analysis. Juggling these components can be
daunting, especially for those new to literary criticism or essay writing.
Furthermore, interpreting the subtle nuances of the characters' motivations and the broader
societal commentary within "Of Mice and Men" demands a deep dive into the material.
Developing a thesis that goes beyond surface-level analysis and delving into the intricacies of the
author's intentions requires a level of critical thinking that can be challenging for some.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on the specified topic involves navigating the complexities of
Steinbeck's narrative, constructing a well-reasoned argument, and understanding the deeper
layers of the text. It's a task that demands both literary acumen and analytical prowess.
For assistance with essays on this topic or similar literary analyses, various resources are

Essay On Group Bullying
Why do we hurt other people? Throughout history there has always been incidences
of violence towards other people. Someone can hurt another person unintentionally
or to get a message across, but the reasons why can become a long list depending on
the situation. From war to bullying, hate crimes, genocide the list of how people can
hurt others goes on. More specifically, group bullyingis a common phenomenon
people are more familiar with, hence there are many movies and books based on
bullying. Additionally, bullying or group bullying is a more day to day reoccurring
problem that individuals partake in, to which there are many possibilities why
individuals join in on group violence with bullying. I believe the reasons I am
going to state are not the only reasons, but are crucial to consider. Individuals join in
on group bullying for typically conforming to peers as gaining power is of interest to
the bullies while there is an issue of bullies not understanding their own behavior.
A factor that leads individuals to connect with others in group bullying is conformity
or the peer pressure to be included with the group bullies, which further induces
violent acts against victims. Conformity is when someone is influenced by another
person, thus the person being influenced changes their behavior to fit in with the
group. From a social psychological perspective, conformity in group bullying can be
explained by normative social influence and social impact theory (Aronson et al. 238).

The Mystery Of The Glass
I first noticed the crack in the glass table near the end of October. I remember
sitting at the table eating my dinner. I glanced down and saw a fine crack, about two
inches long, near the center of the table. It confused me because it was thin yet fat,
like a caterpillar The chandelier above caused the crack to glisten, and I was greatly
perturbed. Ever since that cursed autumn night, my mindnever forsook the mystery in
the glass. Questions constantly flooded my brain. How long had this crack been
there? Had it always been there, and I just never noticed it? If it had taken me years
to notice this tiny crack, what did that say about my ability to observe anything?
Anything at all? I initially thoughtthat a pen or pencil made the crack... Show more

Engraved like this two inch crack in the glass. No one knows how the crack got
there or even how long it had been there, but it is here, and it is here to stay for an
entire lifetime. I read quite a bit. I love to read stories about humanity. What books
was I reading before I saw the crack? Ah, I wish I could have kept reading them, but
I simply had to figure out the crack in the glass before I could peacefully return to
my literature. I was reading Peter Pan and Othello. What can I say, I have a soft
spot for the classics. Classic literature grapples with the deepest aspects of the
human condition, and Barrie and Shakespeare were my top favorite, at that time.
J.M. Barrie was a such a dreamer. Shakespeare was a bloody genius. What I would
give to live the life of a dreamer again, and what I would give to become a genius;
though, I am afraid both of those aspirations are impossible due to the harshness
and indifference of reality. I often forget about reality because I read too much and
too deeply. During the glass enigma event, I remember that I needed to do some
housework, but those tasks were continually and intentionally ignored. I had never
been a fan of household duties. Cleaning and laundry are just so boring; it pains me
to even think about them. Interestingly, I do like to organize, and I like everything in
its place. On the other hand, I am perfectly fine with allowing
Call Of Duty Black Ops Ad Analysis
Call of Duty: Black Ops, a high quality game full of exhilarating and intense
combat. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad is pretty much a mini action film with
neverending gun fire and explosions, jumping from one action packed scene to
another. However, instead of soldiers wielding assault rifles, shotguns, handheld
missile launchers, etc. there are everyday people, hinting at the title of the ad
There s a Soldier in All of Us. It was greatly anticipated that the Call of Duty: Black

Call of Duty: Black Ops There s a soldier in All of Us ad uses a diverse cast, over
the top Hollywood style action, and thrilling music to enforce the theme of the ad,
creating a mini action movie to appeal to the consumer s need and want to be a
part of the action. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad certainly incorporates the slogan
There s a Soldier in All of Us into the ad with a diverse cast. The ad uses a cast of
people of different ages, gender, social status, and cultural backgrounds dressed as
regular everyday people in place of a cast in soldier uniforms. According to David

The Historical Context of Ridda, Shura, and Shi a Essay
Shura is an Arabic word for consultation and it is this that forms part of the four
cardinal principles (human dignity justice and equality) in the Islamic organisation
of social policys and politics. It was a method that the pre Islamic tribes of the
Middle East would use to make major affecting decisions. The term Shura is
mentioned several times in the holy Quran and is also used as a name in parliaments
of Muslim majority countries. Consultation applies to the choice of the head of state
as well as to all the decisions executed by the state. (Waines, 2009)

During the Caliphate of Ali there was much fighting and eventually the Muslim
world fell into civil war. The later Caliphs had nominal control over the Islamic
states, but interestingly none of them were brought to power by Shura; they all
gained control via inheritance or force. Most of today s Islamic countries have at
least some aspects of their government or ruling management based on Shura. In
Egypt the upper house of their parliament is known as the Shura council. Saudi

Theme Of Doubleness In The Great Gatsby
II. At this point, hints have already been dropped to the reader about Gatsby and his
doubleness , (Hays, 1), but even so Fitzgerald now begins to emphasize the extent of
that doubleness by showcasing not only Gatsby s strange habits, but his wealth and
power as well.
Fitzgerald has already demonstrated to the reader how unrestrained Gatsby s lifestyle
is, and now he has begun to slowly affirm Nick s doubts about Gatsby. Aside from
that, Fitzgerald focuses even more so on hinting at the truth behind Gatsby s
notorious rumors.
The first time the reader actually sees Gatsby use his social status for something other
than parties, is during a brief encounter with a highway policeman.
As Gatsby speeds down a highway and is stopped by a policeman, Nick witnesses
him wave a white card from his wallet right in front of the man s face. This gaudy
display of exemption implies that Gatsby is not at all opposed to using his social
status to his benefit, morally just or not. It hints back to the rumors floating
around his parties that Gatsby is not a man to be trifled with, so much that
Fitzgerald even goes so far as to call Gatsby second cousin to the devil (61). Thus,
his doubleness as a mysterious party host and a rumored cold blooded killer is
brought to relevance (Hays, 1). 2. At lunch, Nick is introduced to Meyer Wolfsheim,
who very nearly exposes Gatsby s dealings in shady business. This encounter is used
to show where some of the rumors about Gatsby might

Common themes and/or trends
OIG continuously monitors FCC legislative and policy development and provide
input as appropriate. Common issues, which seem to be a trend, are summarized
herein and systematic strategies which may be implemented to reduce the undesired
trends are highlighted. Among the recurring issues as observed in the OIG report
include; a weak internal control system, slow investigations and handling of cases
and non compliance of policies and procedures in presentation of financial statements.
Weak internal control System
Despite the unqualified report written by the auditors, two internal control
weaknesses were identified. The internal control weaknesses were reported for both
the March 2011 and March 2010 reports meaning, there is little or no attempt that has
been made to take care of this problem.
The first internal control weakness that is persistent is the FCC s financial reporting
processes is inadequate manual reporting process and financial system integration.
Another significant deficiency of the internal control system identified is the
information technology controls of the FCC. The two weaknesses are considered to
be significant deficiencies however; the auditors never specified whether the
deficiencies were material. A significant deficiency in internal control is a deficiency
or combination of deficiencies that is not severe than a material weakness, though
important enough for
Separation of Power
It should be remembered that the notion of the doctrine is in the assumptions that the
three organs of the government and its functions should be distinguishable from one
another. The idea of abandoning the notion of the doctrine means all functions of the
government can be performed by one organ for example executive takes all
government functions like enacting the law, interpreting the law, provides people s
welfare, determines the rights of the people.
In our opinion, we do not wish to abandon the doctrine of separation of power but
however, this notion shall follow the Montesquieu approach as he provides for a
separation of power that aims at having separate institutions doing separate function

Separation of power promotes efficiency in the administration. Through separation of
powers, each power of the government has to be assigned with their own duties,
judiciary, also legislature, and these duties should not be interfered. To say to control
administrative action it means to control executive from interfered with other organ
duties, since administrative we mean executive. Example executive not to control the

Lead Dust Essay
The lead dust is very lethal and causes health complications to workers. Lead fumes
arise from hot cutting and burning process. The same can result from dismantling
tanks containing leaded petroleum products. Exposure to such through ingestion,
inhalation or absorption leads to health risks. The workers and the management
should, therefore, assess the degree and nature of any possible exposure to lead.
The employees must be informed of lead risks, the exposure can also be controlled
by providing changing and washing facilities. The exposure can also be controlled by
providing protective clothing. The lead dust has a long term effect on individual s
health. It is, therefore, important to avoid deliberate or accidental exposure to the

Moving to service interruption, it is evident that the mail room is located in the

How And Why Theodore Roosevelt Saved The Environment
How and Why Theodore Roosevelt Saved the Environment
Common folklore says that the Teddy Bear toy is named after Theodore Roosevelt.
Rumor has it that he saved a young bear in the wild, and thus gave the cute and
cuddly toy a name. (Donna, 1) This is a great example of one of the most popular
aspects of Theodore Roosevelt s personality: his love for nature and the environment.
But what really got Roosevelt interested in the environmental concerns of the nation?
Theodore Roosevelt s lifelong love of nature that was sprouted in childhood, was
strengthened due to his time in Dakota, and brought his attention to the
environmental issues that led to his involvement and achievements in
environmentalism. Theodore Roosevelt grew up in Manhattan, New ... Show more

Roosevelt established multiple national parks, reserves, historical sites, and laws,
but not all on his own. He worked along side of John Muir, another influential
person in the fight for america s environment, on many projects. He even went on a
three day camping trip where Muir convinced Roosevelt to add Yosemite valley and
the Mariposa grove to Yosemite National parkso they would be under federal
protection. That camping trip had a lasting impact on Roosevelt. (John Muir

number of sites in the National Parks system. He established five new parks:
Crater Lake, Oregon; Wind Cave, South Dakota; Sully s Hill, North Dakota (later
re designated a game preserve); Mesa Verde, Colorado; and Platt, Oklahoma (now
part of Chickasaw National Recreation Area). (Theodore Roosevelt and the National
Park System, National Park Service). One act passed during Roosevelt s time in office
that he particularly took advantage of was the Antiquities Act. The Antiquities Act
passed in 1906 in order to enable Presidents to proclaim historic landmarks, structures,
and other places of historic interest as national monuments under federal ownership.
In total, Roosevelt reserved six cultural areas and twelve natural areas through the use
of this act,

An Unwanted Transformation
in E.B. White s Once More to the Lake
Once More to the Lake, by E.B. White is a short story in which White recalls his
annual summer vacations to the lake, and in turn develops a conflict within himself
regarding the static and dynamic characteristics of this lake, and their relation to the
changes that White himself is experiencing as he is growing older. When White
takes his son to the lake, he comes to the sharp realization that certain aspects of
both the lake and himself are different, and with a sense of reminiscence, White
takes us from the time his father first took him to the lake, and tells the new story of
his most recent visit when he is no longer a boy, but a ... Show more content on

He also finds that the paths that he remembers walking along as a child now have
two lanes instead of three. White remarks on how much he [misses] terribly the
middle alternative. White is most upset, though, about the new sound of the place.
Instead of the soft, relaxing boat noises that he recalls from his childhood, the air is
polluted by the nervous sound of the outboard motors. As we will come to find out
later in the story, White is not disturbed as much by the aspects of that lake that have
changed, but more so by the parts of himself that are different.
In contrast, many features of White s sacred lake have not wavered. The lake itself
still possesses the same holy tranquility. The people he finds at the lake are upon
this reunion were fundamentally still the same. White refers to the cultist, the
comedian, and the same country girls when he speaks about the people he sees at
the lake during his return. Each seems to be the same as they had been some forty
years ago. Of course, the people he sees on his most recent trip are not actually the
same ones that he remembers from when he was a boy, but in essence, they are, for
no matter how much time passes, there will always be someone pulling the same
comedic stunts, someone who bathes in the lake rather than in their shower, and
there will always be country girls
Spring Break Project Case Study
Our first step in completing the Spring Break Project was choosing a car, and
since the four of us will be traveling a long distance, we decided that a luxury car
would be the best option. Once we decided, we found the cost for renting a luxury
car for each of the companies and created functions to represent the total cost. Those
functions are as follows: y = 0.18x + 308 for Hertz, y = 0.13x + 426 for Enterprise,
y = 0.15x + 364 for Dollar, and y = 0.20x +326 for Avis. We created these formulas
by using the cost per mile as the slope, or the number multiplied by x, and used the
initial cost as the y intercept, which is the number added. When the formulas had
been created, we went on to making our graphs and tables up to 3,000 miles. We
used the tables to analyze our data, and found that Hertz offers the best initial offer
up to 2,000 miles. After 2,000 miles, Dollar becomes the best option, and at 3,250 we
found that Enterprise becomes the best offer. We used our graph to double check this
information, and found that after 3,250 miles, Enterprise is the best option
indefinitely.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The three locations we chose were Myrtle Beach, New York City, and San
Francisco. In order to find out how many miles a trip to each city would be, we
doubled the distance from Greensboro (where we would pick up the car) to the city
to represent the round trip, and added 20 miles to that total in case of detours or in
city travelling. This meant that a trip to Myrtle Beach would 412 miles, New York
City would be 1,098, and San Francisco would be 5,552 miles. To find the cost for
each of these trips, we solved each function for the mileage of each city. Hertz had
the best price for Myrtle Beach and New York City, at $382.16 and $505.64,
respectively. However, Enterprise was the best choice for San Francisco, only costing
Conservation banking was modeled after the U.S. wetland...
Conservation banking was modeled after the U.S. wetland mitigation banking system
and the two programs share many similarities. However, unlike the wetland
mitigation system, conservation offsets do not have a stated no net loss goal, but
instead have a species recovery goal. Both conservation and wetlands mitigation
banks are privately or publicly owned lands which are protected and managed for its
ecological value. By doing this, the banksponsor generates habitat or wetlandor stream
credits to sell to developers or transportation departments who need to offset their

Plus studies have shown that on site mitigation often failed to produce compensatory
wetland resource values (Ruhl et al., 2005). Wetland mitigation seeks to replace
functions that are damaged or lost at the impact site by creating, restoring, or
enhancing wetlands nearby, generally in the same watershed or eco region. When
wetland mitigation banks are not available, the alternative is on site or off site
mitigation performed by the permit applicant. These project specific mitigation sites
led to small, isolated wetlands being restored that provided minimal ecological uplift
to the watershed. Wetland mitigation bankingcan be used to combine the smaller
wetland restorations sites into larger restored habitats that can better replace the lost
functions from the impacts. Regulatory agencies express a preference for wetland
credits generated from restoration, creation, or enhancement instead of preservation.
This is in line with the no net loss policy, which seeks to maintain the wetland
acreage or even increase the acreage in the United States.
Conservation banking took the idea of wetland banking and transformed it into
threatened and endangered species conservation with a few alterations. The primary
objective of wetland mitigation is to meet the no net loss goal by replacing the
acreage and function of the wetland areas that will be impacted by a proposed
project. The goal of

Humane treatment of animals vs. factory farms This is a topic I am extremely
familiar with, I have done many research based projects on this topic. To start off I
will explain what the topic is even about. First I will inform you about the Humane
treatment of animals side. There is big controversy over how animals are treated in
the factories that produce our food sold in grocery stores all over the world. These
animals are given many added hormones, they are either underfed or overfed. The
conditions in which they stay in are very poor. Most factories don t have light for the
animals, or ventilation. So as you can imagine the question arises, how could that be
healthy to eat?

The added hormones, and steroids to get the animals through the harsh conditions,
are being eaten by people as well. Most factory farms are trying to get as much bang
for their buck. The more animals they give to the companies that process the meat, the
more money they get in return. So the strategy is to fit as many animals as possible
into the barns. No matter if the animals have ventilation or even room to walk. A
few animals will die before they even come to take them away. The animals over
the years have been genetically modified so that they are bigger. The bigger the
animal the more meat that is produced. The more meat produced the more money
the factory farm and the processor earns. PETA (people for the ethical treatment of
animals) is the largest organization that helps to fight for animal rights. ! PETA

Analysis Of Bad Day By Daniel Poster
Bad Day by Daniel Poster has been a song that has influenced my life since I can
remember. It is really the first song that i remember hearing from my child hood.
Every time it came on the radio me and my mom blasted it. The song goes through
the motion in a third person narrative of someone having a bad day. I remembered
during my childhood when I was having a bad day I would blast this song and it
would make me in a better mood. It really begin the foundation of music for me.
This song spoke volumes to me and it would instantly change my mood when I
heard it. Now when I hear it I instantly am drawn to memories of me and my mother
blasting it. It takes me back to my child hood in a way. I remember my favorite
lines from the song was, You re taking one down. You sing a sad song just to turn it
around. Its ironic, but sometimes listening to sad music will brighten my mood. I
related a lot with that verse and the rest of the song. This is why Bad Day by
Daniel Poster is part of my attention collection project. Scooby Doo is another piece
of my attention project. Growing up I didn t really like watching a lot of
television, but I do remember loving the show Scooby Doo. I was interested in
always trying to figure out the mystery of who was the person behind all the
mischief. I remember when I was sick I would watch Scooby Doo. It was a big part
of my child hood and I also still like to watch it today. It has taught me that the real

with someone else. It can be hard to cope with the other person or it can be easy to
cope with the other person you are sharing a room with. Sometimes on the other
hand, it can easily become dramatically annoying, difficult, and disruptive to others
in the room, like I think it did to me. Although I do believe living in a dorm can be
much of a transformation from living in a house, every collegestudent, like I did last
year, has to experience the part of living in a dorm. Or experience being in a dorm
room at one point during their college experience, if he/she chooses to go the
college route. Last year, while living in a college dorm at my other college before I
became a transfer student, I had to share my room with one other girl that was a
thrower in Track and Field, who was all muscle and about a foot taller than me
topping off at probably 6 3 . I was terrified of her, if I did something wrong or if I
said something wrong in general, she would have probably kicked my butt,
literally. So, I decided from the first time I saw her to keep things to myself and
mind my own opinion, of course not telling her my point of view on everything she
did wrong, because I did not want to get hurt. It all started when she never cleaned
up after herself, which made it very easy for me to become annoyed by her and
Philos, Eros, Agape Love in Religion Essay
Philia, eros, and agape are three different Greek terms for the word. These three
terms explain the different types of love a human being can acquire. Philia is a love
of friendship, which is grounded in commonality. However, eros is a kind of love
that seeks something from the other person or thing. Lastly, agape is the lovethat wills
the good of the other and is completely self giving. The meanings of these Greek
terminologies, philia, eros, and agape, allow us to better understand and discuss our
relationship with God and human fulfillment. In order to find human fulfillment, one
must find God of JesusChrist as well. Erotic loving is our desire for this fulfillment,
which can be seen through eros. Human nature can be simply defined... Show more

Sartre attested that the human being is a useless passion due to our insatiable
desires. Markedly, human beings desire to retain the infinite and that need is
simply impossible. For the search for the unlimited is tiresome and unappeasable.
Conversely, there is an alternate way of looking at eros. In order to have hope,
God has to appear to human life as not a receding horizon but an absolute savior.
Human beings long for the truth and due to the constraints of science and history,
Jesus is seen in an alternate way because he is no longer limited by space or time.
In this case, Karl Rahner and Saint Augustine both agree that God always initiates
the relationship with human life. Namely, they asserted that we are constantly
drawn to God and God is not drawn to us. Because of this, we have the option of
forming a better relationship with God. Rahner said that God dispenses his grace to
all human beings of every religion in and God is continually accepting. Chiefly, it is
not God s choice to accept or deny us, for that is not his matter
. Anthony De
Mello describes another explanation of human fulfillment to us. He explains to us
that in order to have human fulfillment, we must detach ourselves from our worldly
attachments. As human beings, we allow ourselves to believe that we cannot be
happy without a certain thing or person in our life. Thus, that is not
Comparing The Matrix And Plato s The Republic
After reading the synopsis from the Matrix, Plato s The Republic ,and Descartes
Meditation I, it was easy to notice that there are some similarities as well as a few
differences. After analyzing all the readings I would be inclined to say that The
Matrix and Plato s The Repulic have extremely similar plots. In the movie The Matrix
, it shows a direct correlation to the story in The Republic in a few different ways.
Just like the prisoners in the cave, the humans stuck inside the matrix . The people
in the cave only saw what the puppet people allowed them to see and the people in
the matrix only saw what the machines that controlled there world permitted them to
see. They are fooled into being certain of that what they heard and saw in the cave is
the factual world that occurs around them. In both readings there was one clear
similarity. The people that were involved in both stories were honesty convinced that
they were living in a world where they were being deceived about what the truth
really was.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which is very similar to the shadows that the prisoners were seeing on the walls of
the cave in Plato s writing The Repulic. In both The Matirx as well as The Republic
both characters were able to experience what the illusory world was like and what
reality was like. They were given the opportunity to see what the truth essentially
was. However, there were some differences. The prisoner in Plato s story ,The
Republic, let others in captivity after acquiring this new knowledge. The prisoner felt
that the deceptive world was easier to except. In contrast, Neo in The Matrix decided
he wanted to learn what the real truth was. Both characters were interested in find out

Communism In Jennifer Rich s The Garden Party
The Garden Party was one of her most prominent works that displayed all these
things that the critics have talked about. Jennifer Rich says that The Garden Party,
was the work of the growth of a young character. It shows much improvement into the
life of the character which it showcases. It is also believed that the Marxist movement
had a huge impact on the writingof this story. The story starts out very serene and
calm and then turns into a somewhat type of chaos. She used this short storyto express
her feelings and how she felt on the matter of death. She often uses comical
resolutions that offer understanding although they are often very ridiculous. She
demonstrates the different classes of people in this story and how they carry on their...

Miss Brill is a spinster who is a very lonely woman who doesn t have much more
than the students she teaches. As in some of her other important works she is a
lonely character. The character s appearance in Miss Brill greatly reflects the
thoughts and issues that could have been going on in her life. Robert Peltier
notices how well she conveys herself while she was a young writer. He gives
examples as to how she gives great detail into the lives of her characters in this
story. Miss Brill has a very boring life, she goes through the same routine every
single day and when she goes against the flow of things everything falls apart. It
shows how she is not contempt with the life she has and tries to do something new
and shows her the life she has is much better than anything else she could ve been
doing. This is a great example of her use in epiphany, which also somewhat shows
up in The Garden Party. The same type problem is prominent in The Garden Party,
where the girl is not contempt with the life she has and finally comes to a
realization where other people have it much worse than she does. Clare Hanson and
Andrew Gurr agree that Miss Brill is a very emotional story that has many good
points. They also agree like in many other stories on how she uses symbolism to
express their feelings ( Short Stories for
Roles Of Sangh Parivar
CHAPTER 2 HINDU NATIONALISTS AD THEIR LOVE FOR FASCISM
Introduction
Various organisations in India who laid their foundation resting their ideology on
one nation, one culture, one language and one religion are found to follow the
footsteps of Nazi Germany. Nazi Germany was adopted as the apt role model for the
Sangh Parivar, especially the concept of anti Semitism was embraced with more
enthusiasm. Like the Jews were for Germans, Muslims are for the Hindu fanatics of
Sangh Parivar. The bodies involved in incorporating and developing such ideals
include Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP), the religious wing of Sangh
Parivar, especially, Bajrang Dal, political wing BJP and the umbrella organisation
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh(RSS).

Nhra Drag Racing Analysis
The TV show I chose for a male focus is in the Sports category, specifically titled
NHRA Drag Racing . A little context regarding the sport itself, it is one of if not the
highest ranking professional automotive racing in the world, the sport is only place
that features Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars using Nitromethane for gasoline
allowing them to travel a 1/4 mile in 3 4 seconds at over 300+ MPH. The
announcers for the sport react to the male drivers by giving a high regard for their
driving capabilities and character within the sport. Announcers for the male drivers
tend to give perceptions that the men, although only paid to drive the car down the
drag strip, are generally educated on the mechanical aspects of their car. The language

The information regarding the sport is the same for females, all cars and equipment
are regulated by the NHRA commission and have nothing to do with gender. The
announcers react to the female drivers in a number of ways, the announcers don t
tend to state a drivers gender is a female when she is positioning her car at the
starting line rather they let the females name speak for the driver and even more
so when name dropping professional female drivers such as Brittany Force and
Courtney Force (both daughters of NHRA legend John Force, who still races
today!). Although the announcers don t typically state genders when introducing
the female racers who are on deck, they do often mention how incredibly brave the
female drivers are for choosing to pilot these insane cars as a job. The information
given for the female drivers is often age, hometown, team sponsor and how many
seasons or races the female has competed in for the specific class of car or team
who works on their race cars. The announcers also do not hesitate telling the viewer
when one of the few female drivers have a tendency to work on their cars with
their pit crew rather than have their team worry about all mechanical tasks. The
media s view of a female focused or presence in NHRA does not consist of black and
white views regarding the positive and negative views of an opposite gender in the
sport. The
Disappearing Of Arts In Schools
The arts are slowly disappearing before our eyes and this is a major problem that if
not solved could create some severe consequences for the United States as a nation
academically. Though there are multiple reasons the arts are being cut, the two main
reasons are the No Child Left Behind Law (NCLB), and funding cuts to schools and
public organizations. Those who oppose the arts believe that the arts have no
applicable use in real life, however there is mounting evidence that shows that the
arts are key factors in reading and language skills, mathematical skills, thinking skills,
social skills, motivation to learn, and promotes a positive schoolenvironment. The arts

People are forgetting that math is taught when a child is playing an instrument.
English is taught when a child is reading or writing a script. Critical thinking is taught
when a child is analyzing art (Sabrina Holcomb). There is a significant correlation
between participating in the arts, and success in school. Multiple studies have shown
that there is a strong correlation between playing an instrument, and an increase in
scores in mathematical subject. In these studies, it was also noted that students who
were more creative were better problem solvers than students who were not as
creative. All of these characteristics are sought after in the work force, meaning that
the arts not only help during the school years, but in work and business as well (Ron
Whitehorne). Also, it is important to note that Low income students who had arts
rich experiences in high schools were more than three times as likely to earn a B.A.
as low income students without those experiences. And the new study from the
National Endowment reports that low income high school students who earned little
or no arts credits were five times more likely not to graduate from high school than
low income students who earned many arts credits (Tyleah Hawkins). The arts have
always been used as a form of expression and inspiration for people across the
world, the arts have also been shown to improve high risk student s outlook on their
schooling. Research has shown that the arts help improve standardized test scores
like the ACT or SAT (Tyleah Hawkins).People who support the arts believe that
quality art education can help engage at risk students in ways that other subjects such
as math, science, or reading cannot. This is why it is believed that the arts are a key
tool in the prevention of high school dropout. There are many studies that point to a
lower dropout rate for students who participate in

A Defense Of Abortion By Judith Jarvis Thomson
In A Defense of Abortion , Judith Jarvis Thomson argues that abortion is not
impermissible in some cases. Thomson begins her writing, noting that abortion being
permissible (for most) depends on whether or not a fetus is considered a person. For
her argument, Thomson assumes that a fetus is a person from the moment of
conception. She attempts to show that still, with this granted, abortionis permissible in
some cases. Thomson points to a vital premise in the argument opposing abortion;
that the right to life outweighs other rights with which it conflicts. Thomson believes
this to be false, and uses a number or thought experiments to exercise her idea. She
presents the violinist case to highlight the implications of a right to life argument.
Blower Motor Problems On Gm Vehicles
Blower Motor Problems on GM Vehicles
Back in the 70s and 80s blower motor problems on General Motors Corp. vehicles
were almost unheard of. However, they did require a lot of electrical energy.
In an effort to increase the efficiency of the climate control systems General Motors
has experimented with some cutting edge technologies. Unfortunately, the fallout has
been a large amount of vehicles with common blower motor problems. I guess I m
saying these systems didn t age well.

You can jump 12 V to the positive side of the motor and it should run. I recommend
that you leave it fully installed when you run this test because the spinning squirrel
cage can cause injury. If the blower motor works it s time to check some voltages at
the module.
There s a power wire that comes from the control panel. On most models it s either
red or purple. This power in wire should turn on a test light with the ignition on and
maximum speed selected. The black wire should indicate a strong ground. If you
have a good ground and verified power into the module, yet have no electricity
flowing to the blower motor you probably have a bad module.
In many cases when I find the problem with the GM blower motor module I also
find signs of moisture in the heater case that contains the motor and module. If the

If you wind up replacing this part go the extra step and make sure that the
condensation drain is clear on your AC evaporator. Also make sure your old blower
motor spins freely and isn t starting to bind. I have some final thoughts on the blower

Essay On Alternative Dispute Resolution
Introduction
This paper will examine when it is appropriate to attempt alternative dispute
resolution (ADR) processes for disputes and conversely when it is fitting for matters
to be decided in a courtroom with black robed judges and well dressed lawyers.
Complementing the correct intervention [courtroom, facilitative ADR or another
form of ADR] at the right time, price and place with the right disputants is not
necessarily an easy task (Wade 2010, p. 13) and the line separating alternative dispute
resolution processes and judicial intervention can be blurred especially as judicial
officers conduct, refer or mandate parties to participate in ADR (Sourdin, 2009, p.
190). Proof that fine panelled courtrooms may not be the answer to ... Show more

But ADR is much more than that. The consensual interaction between the disputants
during an ADR process is how conflict is resolved (Street, 2002). Whereas a court
determination takes over responsibility for the matter (Heilbronn et al, 1996, p. 262)
and imposes an outcome that may not be palatable to either party (David, 1991, p. 4).
A decision made in a traditional courtroom may attempt to remedy the fallout from
a dispute but it may not solve the problem that caused the conflict in the first place.
When there is a need for the parties to a dispute to continue to have a relationship
(for example in families and workplaces) failing to address the issues that caused the
conflict in the first place may mean that it hasn t been resolved and this may lead to
further conflict. If the serious [and] important needs of parties in dispute are not met

Summary Gladwell Social Media
Gladwell s piece explains why social media will not be an effective tool in
organizing activism. He claims that social media is not a dangerous tool to truly
change the existing state of affairs. Throughout his essay, Gladwell refers to many
different protests throughout history and calls on the reader to discern that the
events that did not use social media were better and more centrally organized and
often more successful. The higher success rate in the protests without social media is
cause of strong tie phenomenon which is when people have an invested interest in
the event due to emotional bonds and face to face social connections. An example
that Gladwell uses of a successful protest was the Greensboro sit ins. Due to face to

Cilia Are Tiny Hairs Of The Respiratory Tract By
Capturing...
What are cilia?
Cilia are tiny hairs, which protect parts of the respiratory tract by capturing
particles, which has entered the body by using a sweeping movement to keep the
particles such as dust and debris out of the lungs. The cilia are found attached to the
apical surface of the cell. For example, dust that has been breathed in through the
nose would be captured to stop it going even further. There are roughly 200 to 300
tiny hairs on the cell.
Non ciliated simple columnar epithelial tissue
Non ciliated simple columnar epithelial tissue is found on the lining digestive tract,
which is the stomach, gall bladder and the excretory ducts of some glands. It is a
tube, which transfers food to the digestive organs. It also contains a nucleus at its
base, has a single layer of cells however are not ciliated; they do not contain tiny
hairs. It also has microvilli to increase the surface area and to make the absorption
more effective, the microvilli can also be referred to as the brush border due to its
hairy appearance.
Pseudostratified columnar epithelial tissue
The Pseudostratified columnar epithelium tissue that lines the trachea and upper
respiratory tract contains many goblet cells. They are unevenly shaped due to the
nucleus that is positioned in different places within the cells; it is this that makes the
cells look as if it has many layers, however it only has one layer that stretches
between the apical surface and basement membrane. It secretes mucus and can
The Modern Law Of Murder
The modern law of murder developed over many centuries from the English
common law of homicide. Homicide is simply defined as the killing of another
person. Before the 1500 s, common law judges categorized homicide into two broad
categories known as, criminal and noncriminal homicides (Samaha, 2013). Over the
next five decades, a number of newly developed statutes were established and further
divided criminal and noncriminal homicide. Criminal homicide included murderand
manslaughter, while noncriminal homicide was divided into justifiable and excusable
homicide (Samaha, 2013). By the 1700 s, three types of homicides were firmly
embraced by English common law and the American Colonies. The three categories

Murder, under common law, is the unlawful killing of another person in existence
with malice aforethought (Bower, 2014). In other words, an individual had to have a
clear criminal intent with some amount of spite, hate, or bad will to commit the
killing before the murder occurred and had to be planned in advance (Samaha, 2013).
To illustrate, during the 1550 s, English homicide statutes outlined activities such as
poisoning or lying in wait as examples of preplanned murders. However, while
murder was initially only thought of as an intentional and premeditated act, over time
judges saw the need to develop new classifications of murders that didn t fit the
standard definition. First, sudden killings that were intentional, but not premeditated
were added. These types of murder were often completed during a heat of passion
moment and were unreasonably provoked by the victim s actions (Samaha, 2013).
However, unreasonably provoked means that the victim s actions were not substantial
enough to justify the actions of the attacker. Secondly, judges added unintentional
killings that were completed during a felony (Samaha, 2013). While most murders
require intent to cause death, under this law, any homicide committed during the
commission of a felony, regardless of whether it s intentional or accidental will
constitute as murder. Third, extremely reckless killings were classified as depraved

My Love Of Music
Ever since I was a little girl I would sing everywhere, in the bathroom, the car, at
school, and at parties but my favorite spot has always been in the shower. I would

teased made me feel like I wasn t good enough. Because of that I stopped singingfor a
while. At that time, I didn t know what to do singing had been part of my life even
before I even came out the womb. I ve been told my aunt would sing to me
frequently. I felt completely at lost, I was unidentifiable with myself. I need music
in my life. In elementary I spent most of my time in the music room with my
music teacher, he would give me tips to improve my voice. Not only did he teach
me how project my voice and overall make me sound better, he also taught me how
to play various instruments. For starters, I developed a growing love for piano. I am
deeply grateful for the personal time he took to develope my love for music, sadly I
took a break at 15 because after I helped my brother move into his dorm five hours
away from his home, I came home and felt a little lost.

would alway smile or laugh. After a long day of school he pulled me aside, he told
me how proud he was to see me continue my passion for music and he bought me a

during the war (Lebow, 2017). In 1381, Peasant s Revolt also happened as the king
imposed a third poll... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the parliament got infuriated by his decision of choosing a favorite one
Robert De Vere who was the Earl of Oxford and made him the duke of Ireland.
Richard II was aware of the challenges that his leadership faced but was not willing
to implement the right measures that could make the nation a better. In most cases,
the cases that came up in his government but solutions offered to the legal
arguments were done by force (Charlton, Tonks, Mclelland, Coats,Thompson, Sims
Saeed, 2016). After the defeat of De Vere at the Radcot Bridge, Richard was
defenseless. By 1387, there were some of his opponents who felt that Richard II was
worth being replaced by another person who understood the needs of the citizens. It
was in 1388 when the Merciless Parliament purged the government. The parliament
used power to ensure that the government was impeached mainly those people that
were Richard s favorites operating in the state. The event angered Richard II so that
he was determined to revenge and ensures that those who had conducted the

American Education Reform
As many across the globe know, America is a very, if not the most, powerful country
where we lead in a few major categories, the military being one of the most noted.
Although national security is very important, there are areas that are much more
important where America tends to lack and fall behind a number of European
countries, such as education. With the country having dominance and leadership
over most countries on the planet, it cannot seem to find an answer as to why the
nation aren t leading in education along side many other areas where they do come
out on top. The answer can simply be discovered by taking three focal points where
America can reform its schoolsystems and regularly ensure a dedicated and
purposeful education to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are schools where the conditions are almost too severe for students to attend.
Which then could result in a rise of dropout students and a decrease in graduating
classes etc. For example, The unfortunate fact is that one of our most cherished
institutions is, by its very nature, failing our children and our society . Instead of the
government paying money to constantly hold standardized test, there should be
money being put into actual school facilities and material in order for students to
feel comfortable to attend school regularly. For example, Rotting walls, standing
water, mold and crumbling ceilings, are just some of the health hazards , where the
government do not utilize the country s money to help certain school districts. If a
student is attentive to their school work and are pleased with the environment they
learn in, there could be a possible drop in students that fail and drop out of school.
The education system in the United States has been a problem for some time now
and it has yet been fixed. Of course there are somethings that cannot be changed
overnight, but it is obvious that there hasn t been any jurassic reform that the system
desperately needs. The country needs to adapt to the student s needs and attention to
engage and connect with the students in the simplest way for them to learn and excel.
What the country is doing currently is not getting the job done and there needs to be
a change and it needs to happen

There are a number of critical social and organizational issues with security. The first
is that the weak link in security is often users or employees, rather than the
technology. The second is software engineering management, or managing how
security technology is deployed. The third is the development of adequate
organizational processes for risk management, separation of duties, and development
of security policies, access control, and security assurance. Advantages of E

Climate Change Has Become The Most Pressing Issue Of
Our Time
It is best put bluntly: climate change has become the most pressing issue of our
time. It is a concern so urgent that many say we have already passed a point in
which we cannot recover; we can merely hope to minimize the damage. It is an issue
that has found its way to the forefront of many governmental platforms, regardless of
political affiliation. Most recently, APEC Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation
held its
yearly summit in Beijing, the capital of the world s greatest polluter: China.
However, the progress attained by this conference is what has newspapers, such as
the Washington Post, calling it the best APEC summit ever. (cite) China and the
United States the world s largest emissions polluters took a very encouraging step
forward as both agreed to a motivated joint plan that plans to drastically cut carbon
emissions. Frequently seen as antagonists (cite) in the in the realm of greenhouse
emissions, this initiative is being viewed as one of the largest in recent memory. The
hope is that smaller countries will see the commitment from world leaders such as
the United States and China and will in turn become motivated to reduce emissions
as well. There seems to be an abundance of benefits in terms of energy but there
could also be hidden benefits to this agreement, more specifically, what does this
initiative tell of U.S. China relations, both present and future? Unsurprisingly, there
are many ways to answer this question and to do so without the

Firstly, the novel itself by John Steinbeck is rich in thematic elements and nuanced characters, demanding a comprehensive understanding of the text. Analyzing the intricate relationships between characters such as George and Lennie, grappling with the socio-economic backdrop of the Great Depression, and delving into the dreams that shape the narrative requires a keen literary insight. Moreover, addressing the essay question necessitates the ability to articulate a cohesive and well-structured argument. This involves organizing thoughts logically, providing textual evidence to support claims, and seamlessly integrating literary analysis. Juggling these components can be daunting, especially for those new to literary criticism or essay writing. Furthermore, interpreting the subtle nuances of the characters' motivations and the broader societal commentary within "Of Mice and Men" demands a deep dive into the material. Developing a thesis that goes beyond surface-level analysis and delving into the intricacies of the author's intentions requires a level of critical thinking that can be challenging for some. • 2. Essay On Group Bullying Why do we hurt other people? Throughout history there has always been incidences of violence towards other people. Someone can hurt another person unintentionally or to get a message across, but the reasons why can become a long list depending on the situation. From war to bullying, hate crimes, genocide the list of how people can hurt others goes on. More specifically, group bullyingis a common phenomenon people are more familiar with, hence there are many movies and books based on bullying. Additionally, bullying or group bullying is a more day to day reoccurring problem that individuals partake in, to which there are many possibilities why individuals join in on group violence with bullying. I believe the reasons I am going to state are not the only reasons, but are crucial to consider. Individuals join in on group bullying for typically conforming to peers as gaining power is of interest to the bullies while there is an issue of bullies not understanding their own behavior. A factor that leads individuals to connect with others in group bullying is conformity or the peer pressure to be included with the group bullies, which further induces violent acts against victims. Conformity is when someone is influenced by another person, thus the person being influenced changes their behavior to fit in with the group. From a social psychological perspective, conformity in group bullying can be explained by normative social influence and social impact theory (Aronson et al. 238).

I glanced down and saw a fine crack, about two inches long, near the center of the table. It confused me because it was thin yet fat, like a caterpillar The chandelier above caused the crack to glisten, and I was greatly perturbed. Ever since that cursed autumn night, my mindnever forsook the mystery in the glass. Questions constantly flooded my brain. How long had this crack been there? No one knows how the crack got there or even how long it had been there, but it is here, and it is here to stay for an entire lifetime. I read quite a bit. I love to read stories about humanity. What books was I reading before I saw the crack? Ah, I wish I could have kept reading them, but I simply had to figure out the crack in the glass before I could peacefully return to my literature. I was reading Peter Pan and Othello. What can I say, I have a soft spot for the classics. Classic literature grapples with the deepest aspects of the human condition, and Barrie and Shakespeare were my top favorite, at that time. J.M. Barrie was a such a dreamer. Shakespeare was a bloody genius. What I would give to live the life of a dreamer again, and what I would give to become a genius; though, I am afraid both of those aspirations are impossible due to the harshness and indifference of reality. I often forget about reality because I read too much and too deeply. Cleaning and laundry are just so boring; it pains me to even think about them. Interestingly, I do like to organize, and I like everything in its place. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad is pretty much a mini action film with neverending gun fire and explosions, jumping from one action packed scene to another. However, instead of soldiers wielding assault rifles, shotguns, handheld missile launchers, etc. there are everyday people, hinting at the title of the ad There s a Soldier in All of Us. It was greatly anticipated that the Call of Duty: Black Ops commercial ad would exhibit the same qualities as the videogame itself. The Call of Duty: Black Ops There s a soldier in All of Us ad uses a diverse cast, over the top Hollywood style action, and thrilling music to enforce the theme of the ad, creating a mini action movie to appeal to the consumer s need and want to be a part of the action. The Call of Duty: Black Ops ad certainly incorporates the slogan There s a Soldier in All of Us into the ad with a diverse cast. The ad uses a cast of people of different ages, gender, social status, and cultural backgrounds dressed as regular everyday people in place of a cast in soldier uniforms. According to David Vinjamuri (2015), the increased diversity in television, film and advertising is based on sound marketing principles simply put, we are more likely to identify with someone that looks like us (para. 6). • 7. Theme Of Doubleness In The Great Gatsby II. At this point, hints have already been dropped to the reader about Gatsby and his doubleness , (Hays, 1), but even so Fitzgerald now begins to emphasize the extent of that doubleness by showcasing not only Gatsby s strange habits, but his wealth and power as well. Fitzgerald has already demonstrated to the reader how unrestrained Gatsby s lifestyle is, and now he has begun to slowly affirm Nick s doubts about Gatsby. Aside from that, Fitzgerald focuses even more so on hinting at the truth behind Gatsby s notorious rumors. The first time the reader actually sees Gatsby use his social status for something other than parties, is during a brief encounter with a highway policeman. As Gatsby speeds down a highway and is stopped by a policeman, Nick witnesses him wave a white card from his wallet right in front of the man s face. This gaudy display of exemption implies that Gatsby is not at all opposed to using his social status to his benefit, morally just or not. It hints back to the rumors floating around his parties that Gatsby is not a man to be trifled with, so much that Fitzgerald even goes so far as to call Gatsby second cousin to the devil (61). Thus, his doubleness as a mysterious party host and a rumored cold blooded killer is brought to relevance (Hays, 1). 2. At lunch, Nick is introduced to Meyer Wolfsheim, who very nearly exposes Gatsby s dealings in shady business. This encounter is used to show where some of the rumors about Gatsby might

When White takes his son to the lake, he comes to the sharp realization that certain aspects of both the lake and himself are different, and with a sense of reminiscence, White takes us from the time his father first took him to the lake, and tells the new story of his most recent visit when he is no longer a boy, but a ... As we will come to find out later in the story, White is not disturbed as much by the aspects of that lake that have changed, but more so by the parts of himself that are different. The people he finds at the lake are upon this reunion were fundamentally still the same. • 14. Spring Break Project Case Study Our first step in completing the Spring Break Project was choosing a car, and since the four of us will be traveling a long distance, we decided that a luxury car would be the best option. Once we decided, we found the cost for renting a luxury car for each of the companies and created functions to represent the total cost. Those functions are as follows: y = 0.18x + 308 for Hertz, y = 0.13x + 426 for Enterprise, y = 0.15x + 364 for Dollar, and y = 0.20x +326 for Avis. We created these formulas by using the cost per mile as the slope, or the number multiplied by x, and used the initial cost as the y intercept, which is the number added. When the formulas had been created, we went on to making our graphs and tables up to 3,000 miles. We used the tables to analyze our data, and found that Hertz offers the best initial offer up to 2,000 miles. After 2,000 miles, Dollar becomes the best option, and at 3,250 we found that Enterprise becomes the best offer. We used our graph to double check this information, and found that after 3,250 miles, Enterprise is the best option indefinitely.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three locations we chose were Myrtle Beach, New York City, and San Francisco. This meant that a trip to Myrtle Beach would 412 miles, New York City would be 1,098, and San Francisco would be 5,552 miles. Plus studies have shown that on site mitigation often failed to produce compensatory wetland resource values (Ruhl et al., 2005). Wetland mitigation seeks to replace functions that are damaged or lost at the impact site by creating, restoring, or enhancing wetlands nearby, generally in the same watershed or eco region. When wetland mitigation banks are not available, the alternative is on site or off site mitigation performed by the permit applicant. These project specific mitigation sites led to small, isolated wetlands being restored that provided minimal ecological uplift to the watershed. Wetland mitigation bankingcan be used to combine the smaller wetland restorations sites into larger restored habitats that can better replace the lost functions from the impacts. Regulatory agencies express a preference for wetland credits generated from restoration, creation, or enhancement instead of preservation. This is in line with the no net loss policy, which seeks to maintain the wetland acreage or even increase the acreage in the United States. • 21. Philos, Eros, Agape Love in Religion Essay Philia, eros, and agape are three different Greek terms for the word. These three terms explain the different types of love a human being can acquire. Philia is a love of friendship, which is grounded in commonality. However, eros is a kind of love that seeks something from the other person or thing. Lastly, agape is the lovethat wills the good of the other and is completely self giving. The meanings of these Greek terminologies, philia, eros, and agape, allow us to better understand and discuss our relationship with God and human fulfillment. In order to find human fulfillment, one must find God of JesusChrist as well. Erotic loving is our desire for this fulfillment, which can be seen through eros. Human nature can be simply defined... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sartre attested that the human being is a useless passion due to our insatiable desires. Markedly, human beings desire to retain the infinite and that need is simply impossible. For the search for the unlimited is tiresome and unappeasable. Conversely, there is an alternate way of looking at eros. In order to have hope, God has to appear to human life as not a receding horizon but an absolute savior. Human beings long for the truth and due to the constraints of science and history, Jesus is seen in an alternate way because he is no longer limited by space or time. In this case, Karl Rahner and Saint Augustine both agree that God always initiates the relationship with human life. Namely, they asserted that we are constantly drawn to God and God is not drawn to us. Because of this, we have the option of forming a better relationship with God. Rahner said that God dispenses his grace to all human beings of every religion in and God is continually accepting. Chiefly, it is not God s choice to accept or deny us, for that is not his matter

As human beings, we allow ourselves to believe that we cannot be happy without a certain thing or person in our life. Thus, that is not

Miss Brill is a spinster who is a very lonely woman who doesn t have much more than the students she teaches. As in some of her other important works she is a lonely character. The character s appearance in Miss Brill greatly reflects the thoughts and issues that could have been going on in her life. Robert Peltier notices how well she conveys herself while she was a young writer. He gives examples as to how she gives great detail into the lives of her characters in this story. Miss Brill has a very boring life, she goes through the same routine every single day and when she goes against the flow of things everything falls apart. It shows how she is not contempt with the life she has and tries to do something new and shows her the life she has is much better than anything else she could ve been doing. This is a great example of her use in epiphany, which also somewhat shows up in The Garden Party. The same type problem is prominent in The Garden Party, where the girl is not contempt with the life she has and finally comes to a realization where other people have it much worse than she does. Clare Hanson and Andrew Gurr agree that Miss Brill is a very emotional story that has many good points. Essay On Alternative Dispute Resolution Introduction This paper will examine when it is appropriate to attempt alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes for disputes and conversely when it is fitting for matters to be decided in a courtroom with black robed judges and well dressed lawyers. Complementing the correct intervention [courtroom, facilitative ADR or another form of ADR] at the right time, price and place with the right disputants is not necessarily an easy task (Wade 2010, p. 13) and the line separating alternative dispute resolution processes and judicial intervention can be blurred especially as judicial officers conduct, refer or mandate parties to participate in ADR (Sourdin, 2009, p. 190). The consensual interaction between the disputants during an ADR process is how conflict is resolved (Street, 2002). Whereas a court determination takes over responsibility for the matter (Heilbronn et al, 1996, p. 262) and imposes an outcome that may not be palatable to either party (David, 1991, p. 4). A decision made in a traditional courtroom may attempt to remedy the fallout from a dispute but it may not solve the problem that caused the conflict in the first place. When there is a need for the parties to a dispute to continue to have a relationship (for example in families and workplaces) failing to address the issues that caused the conflict in the first place may mean that it hasn t been resolved and this may lead to further conflict. Over the next five decades, a number of newly developed statutes were established and further divided criminal and noncriminal homicide. Murder, under common law, is the unlawful killing of another person in existence with malice aforethought (Bower, 2014). In other words, an individual had to have a clear criminal intent with some amount of spite, hate, or bad will to commit the killing before the murder occurred and had to be planned in advance (Samaha, 2013). To illustrate, during the 1550 s, English homicide statutes outlined activities such as poisoning or lying in wait as examples of preplanned murders. However, while murder was initially only thought of as an intentional and premeditated act, over time judges saw the need to develop new classifications of murders that didn t fit the standard definition. First, sudden killings that were intentional, but not premeditated were added. These types of murder were often completed during a heat of passion moment and were unreasonably provoked by the victim s actions (Samaha, 2013). However, unreasonably provoked means that the victim s actions were not substantial enough to justify the actions of the attacker. Secondly, judges added unintentional killings that were completed during a felony (Samaha, 2013). While most murders require intent to cause death, under this law, any homicide committed during the commission of a felony, regardless of whether it s intentional or accidental will constitute as murder.
