This document provides guidance for creating and distributing a 10 question audience questionnaire to help design a magazine. Students have two lessons to create and distribute the questionnaire either online through Survey Monkey or on paper. They are then instructed to distribute the questionnaire more widely through social media and analyze the results after a week to understand their target audience and help plan what to include or exclude in their magazine based on the feedback.

2. What’s the point?
• Who is your potential audience?
• What types of genres might be successful?
• What do people like about existing magazines?
• What do they dislike about existing magazines?
• What bands/trends/fashion/brands are they
currently into?

3. Presentation and Tech
• Survey Monkey
• Paper Survey/Flip Cameras (extension)
• Each questionnaire should be the same, and
consist of 10 questions.
• You will use this information when creating
your own magazine so make sure the
questions are useful to you!

4. Time Frame
• 2 lessons
 1 lesson to create your questionnaire
 1 lesson to distribute it amongst your class

5. HOMEWORK
1. You will need to distribute your online questionnaire (and paper
questionnaire also if you wish) to other people too, putting it on
Facebook/Twitter etc….
2. After 1 week of your questionnaire being online (you collecting
results through your paper questionnaire) you should analyse the
results
▫ Look at what they have told you (Bar charts/Pie graphs)
▫ How will these results affect how you plan your magazine?
▫ What will you include or not include based on these results?
▫ Based on the questionnaire, who will your target market be?
• Your analysis should be presented in an interesting way
▫ Use the blog for help in both the presentation and the analysis!
