ADVANCED PORTFOLIO 2012-13
AUDIENCE RESEARCH
You will need to conduct research into your target audience.
You should find out:
       demographics – who your target audience are
       psychographics – what their interests are
       genre – what do they expect in your product?
       appeal – how can you appeal to them?


The purpose of your audience research is to be able to
construct a product that will appeal effectively to a specific
target audience.
AUDIENCE RESEARCH

By the end of this week you should have completed and
distributed a questionnaire and planned your other audience
research activities.
SUMMARY OF GENRE
RESEARCH
You should all have completed your analysis of three similar
products.


You now need to summarise what you found out.
What are the conventions of the form (e.g. music video)?
What are the conventions of the genre?


Think about how you present this information. You could
produce a mind-map, a video, powerpoint, etc. Consider
using spicynodes, or other resources on the handout.

RESEARCH INTO
ANCILLARY TASKS
You will need to analyse similar products to the one you will
produce for your ancillary task (poster, magazine cover,
advert, etc.).


Analyse these products in relation to key areas of print media
(font, layout, colour, image, language, mode of address) and
conventions.


You should analyse two each for both ancillary tasks.
HOMEWORK
Use internet/social network platforms to get information
about how your audience perceive your genre.


Consider using wallwisher and then linking to your wall
using twitter, facebook, etc.


Summarise the key things you find out, and explain how you
used technology.


Due Friday.
WEEK 4 TARGETS
Ensure all main tasks analysis work is completed.
Complete and distribute questionnaire.
Plan other audience research tasks.
Summarise findings of research into main task products.
Analyse two similar products for first ancillary task.
Homework 3 – audience research activity.


All work should be completed and uploaded to your blog by
Friday.

  • 2. AUDIENCE RESEARCH You will need to conduct research into your target audience. You should find out: demographics – who your target audience are psychographics – what their interests are genre – what do they expect in your product? appeal – how can you appeal to them? The purpose of your audience research is to be able to construct a product that will appeal effectively to a specific target audience.
  • 3. AUDIENCE RESEARCH Preliminary Questionnaire Focus group Interviews Message Boards Blog Social networking sites By the end of this week you should have completed and distributed a questionnaire and planned your other audience research activities.
  • 4. SUMMARY OF GENRE RESEARCH You should all have completed your analysis of three similar products. You now need to summarise what you found out. What are the conventions of the form (e.g. music video)? What are the conventions of the genre? Think about how you present this information. You could produce a mind-map, a video, powerpoint, etc. Consider using spicynodes, or other resources on the handout.
  • 5. RESEARCH SUMMARY TRAILER MUSIC VIDEO Conventions of Conventions of trailer music videos. Conventions of genre – narrative, Conventions of characters, settings, music genre. iconography, technical elements
  • 6. RESEARCH INTO ANCILLARY TASKS You will need to analyse similar products to the one you will produce for your ancillary task (poster, magazine cover, advert, etc.). Analyse these products in relation to key areas of print media (font, layout, colour, image, language, mode of address) and conventions. You should analyse two each for both ancillary tasks.
  • 7. HOMEWORK Use internet/social network platforms to get information about how your audience perceive your genre. Consider using wallwisher and then linking to your wall using twitter, facebook, etc. Summarise the key things you find out, and explain how you used technology. Due Friday.
  • 8. WEEK 4 TARGETS Ensure all main tasks analysis work is completed. Complete and distribute questionnaire. Plan other audience research tasks. Summarise findings of research into main task products. Analyse two similar products for first ancillary task. Homework 3 – audience research activity.
