The Teddy Boys subculture started in London in the 1950s and was strongly associated with American rock 'n' roll music. They were one of the first British youth groups to develop their own distinct style and fashion, which included drainpipe jeans, brothel creepers, quiffs, and Edwardian-inspired jackets. While the Teddy Boys listened to rock music and prided themselves on their sharp appearance, some groups were also known for their violent clashes with other subcultures like the Mods, often carrying flick knives. Their most infamous act of violence was the 1958 Notting Hill Race Riots.
