with education process
Full Prof. Sandra Lovrenčić, Ph.D.
Vice-dean for education and students
Faculty of organization and informatics
University of Zagreb
Croatia
3. E-learning before pandemic
• Faculty of organization and informatics adopted e-learning strategy in
2007, immediatelly after University of Zagreb
• LMS Moodle is continuously used for all courses in all study
programmes, but not at equall level
• Teachers improve their skills and participate in projects about e-
learning
4. Teaching process during pandemic
• First workshop about online teaching was held several days before
government decision to stop the teaching process in classrooms
• Along with workshops, new technologies are continuouslly
implemented
• In academic year 2020/2021 teaching process was conducted almost
completely online, as well as exams
• This year, theaching process is conducted hybridly
• Student satisfaction surveys are held during each semester
5. First survey – end of April 2020
• Survey for individual courses – 2200 surveys filled
• Four parts: course organization, teaching materials, knowledge
assesments and general information
• Textual suggestions for course organization, materials and assesments
• Intended as a feedback after a month and a half of online teaching
• Satisfaction with all elements was around 4 (out of 5), except with
frequency of knowledge (self)assesments that was 3
6. Surveys in 2020/2021
• After two thirds of each semester
• Revised questions
• Separate surveys for teaching process in general and for each course
(not teachers)
• Textual suggestions for course organization, materials and assesments
• Participants - 35% students in winter semester and 20% in summer
semester (teaching process in general)
7. Surveys in 2020/2021 - results
• Students were mostly satisfied with hybrid and online classes, as well
as with teachers’ proficiency with IT tools
• Online classes were interesting, but contact classes were easier to
follow
• The biggest advantage was that students could stay at home, and the
biggest disadvantage was difficult communication with teachers
followed by need for equipment
• Differences according to level of study
10. Conclusions
• Online teaching and learning is well accepted
• Undergraduate students give advantage to contact classes and
graduate students to online classes
• Students have difficuty communicating with teachers despite all the
technology used
• Teachers point out cheating on online assesments as a big problem
• Hybrid teaching is demanding for teachers
