- 3. Purpose of thechannel 1. “Surgical Educator” is an educational channel launched to teach surgery to medical students and all the surgical trainees. 2. This contains series of surgical teaching Video Casts. These videos contain Problem oriented case -based teaching so that all who watch, will have total immersive and transformational learning experience. 3. Through this channel, I try to instill the nuggets of surgical wisdom distilled from many authentic sources, including standard text- books. 4.My aim is not just to make you to pass exams, but to make you competent to treat your surgical patients successfully. However, you can easily win any competitive exams. 5. YouTube is an excellent platform to reach out to my global audience in every part of the world. 6.This channel will be very useful to those who are doing their surgical clerkship rotation. My aim is to transfer quality knowledge through innovative delivery mechanism and technologies. 7. Currently this channel is having 240 videos, 3 million views and 50Ks subscribers. 8. - 4. Core Clinical Problems Allmy didactic videos are based on these 18 core clinical problems and trauma also. The first 9 problems are GI problems, and the second 9 problems are non- GI problems. For each problem I have created and uploaded many videos on the various causes for these problems. I have created a playlist for each of these problems which you can watch together to become competent in dealing with these problems. Page 4 of 44
- 5. How to utilizethe channel “Surgical Educator” effectively. 1. I am creating and uploading surgical teaching videos under seven different categories. They are A. Didactic General surgery videos like Scrotal swellings, Acute abdomen, Obstructive jaundice Etc. and it has a color code of violet. B. Common Pediatric Surgery problems videos like Neonatal bilious vomiting, Jaundice in children Etc. and it has a color code of green. C. Videos on trauma surgery like ATLS, Head trauma, Abdominal trauma Etc. and it has a color code of red. D. Videos exclusively on all common General Surgery operations like Open/Lap appendicectomy, Open/ Lap Cholecystectomy Etc. and it has a picture of operation theater as the code. E. Case-based /Image based questions on various systems like Vascular Surgery, Lower GI tract Etc. and it has my photo as the code. F. All my online classes with my real actual students on many important topics. And it also has my photo as the code. G. All the skill lab procedures the students should master like NG tube insertion, bladder catheterization Etc. it also has my photo as the code. 2. The playlist section of the channel, you can watch all the interrelated videos together as a playlist. For example, in Scrotal Swellings playlist you can watch videos on the six causes for this problem. By watching videos on all the causes in a particular problem, you become confident/competent in managing your patients. 3. In the Clinical Surgery playlist, I have included 9 videos by Dr Ghan Shyam Vidhya, which I think will be very useful to undergraduate medical students to learn the vanishing art of the physical examination. 4. In the MCQs in Surgery playlist, I have included 12 videos by Dr Imle which consist of thousands of MCQs with answers for your practice. 5. SEO will help your videos to reach your global audience through searches and YouTube is the second largest search engine after Google. 3. “Surgical Educator” has been given 1st or 2nd rank in the YouTube search engine ranking during the past six years. This is indeed a very big recognition for the channel. All of you can verify this status by searching “surgery teaching YouTube channels” in YouTube search engine. 4. Now I have the tremendous responsibility to maintain this position and to improve the channel to the next level. However, this accomplishment is a tremendous boost to my self- confidence, and I will create and upload quality surgical teaching videos consistently. 5. - 40. Future Plan 1. Changeis the only thing permanent in this world. Teachers should adopt suitable new technologies to make their teaching very efficient and effective. 2. I have already used innovative powerful teaching tools like mind map, diagnostic algorithm, and treatment algorithm in all my didactic teaching videos. Teaching asynchronously through YouTube videos itself is an innovative teaching methodology compared to the traditional face to face lectures. 3. Apart from these technologies, I want to adopt the newer AI technology and interactive E-books in future to make my teaching much more effective. 4. However good your teachings may be, unless you have an effective marketing strategy you cannot reach out to all the medical students all over the world. 5. Realizing the importance of marketing, I recently did Google’s digital marketing course. 6. Now I can do an online campaign for my YouTube channel effectively. 7.
