Analysis Of The Garden Party By Mansfield
The main idea for an interpretation of a deeper meaning of the story, The Garden Party by Mansfield,
is relating life, and death to be held hand in hand. In other words, one day I can live happy and think I
can be eternal but death is always near. I don t usually like to think about death because it can be
something scary and overwhelming. Although in this story, I can see that Mrs. Sheridan is a woman
from a high class society. A family that is concerned about with what other people think and the fact of
just having a blast every time they are able to. When Mrs. Sheridan heard about the death of Mr. Scott
she felt pity for a moment, but continued her party arrangements. In contrast, her daughter, Laura,
seemed more humane because when her mother thought about giving the party s leftovers to her
neighbors, she felt that it was rude. Therefore, I can see that she feels empathy with the death of Mr.
Scott.
One of the themes that I can constantly see in society is economic division. Those divisions can
sometimes be harmful directly and indirectly to society. People from high class society tend to
segregate those who do not compare to them, but not all of high class people can act for pettiness. One
of the specific characteristics which is imparted to a character in this story is humility and empathy. I
believe that in this specific story, Laura has changed along the story in the eyes of the reader since at
the beginning, she was in charge of the set up of the Garden Party,

Essay On Greek Theatre
In terms of filling my obligations I completed all but one. I believe we as a chorus performed well,
and as a good unit.
I believe we provided good support for the actors and when our piece came we performed well. Our
whole group was fairly in unison thanks to the choreography provided by Gemma and while we
stumbled on one line the rest I believe went really well. I was very proud of how collaborative are
group was in performance and how we conveys a clear image to the audience of which I believe
conformed to the Greek theatre style. After watching the other groups as well I believe our group
worked incredibly well together at making one coherent piece of art. While I appreciated the other
performances I believe ours was most balanced in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

held her posture, that I was able to understand this direction by copying her to learn what she was

Literature Review On Pathological Gambling
Literature Review
American Psychiatric Association (2000) defines pathological gambling as a chronic and progressive
failure to resist to impulses to gamble, and gambling behavior that compromises disrupts, or damages
personal, family, or vocational pursuits. While the terms pathological and compulsive are technically
not synonymous for psychiatrists, compulsion is a behavior that is involuntary and in gambling does
not occur until quite late in the problem gambler s career professionals and lay persons use them
interchangeably (Lesieur, 1992). Gambling involves the staking of an item of value on an outcome
that is governed by chance, and comprises a wide range of commercial activities, including lotteries,

Financial hardship (via debts and asset losses) may lead to legal consequences, such as bankruptcy,

imposed by PG on the society include the cost of crimes committed by some gamblers and costs
related to their treatment (Productivity Commission, 1999). Interpersonal problems between gamblers
and their significant others include domestic violence, relationship breakdown, neglect of family, and
the negative impacts on the physical and mental health of family members (Lorenz Yaffee, 1986,
1988, 1989). Serious psychosocial problems in the children of pathological gamblers, such as

American Indian Tribes Research Paper
The myths, stories and purpose of this cluster of stars differs immensely among the American Indian
tribes.
The Blackfoot tribe tells the story of poor boys, riddled by anguish and disgrace, decided to become
stars when their parents were unable to clothe them in yellow buffalo calf robes. The Pleiades not
visible during the spring and summer seasons signified the time for planting seeds and hunting
buffalo.
The Cheyenne tribe tells a different story regarding the star cluster. Legend has it the stars are in fact
puppies born to the Cheyenne Chief s daughter and a dog being (dog in human form) and symbolizes
the love the girl had for the dog being.

Unethical Practices For Business Success Essay
We have heard the well used phrase, When in Rome, do as the Romans do, and have applied it well as
we travel among other countries and cultures, with great success. However, in business, it does not
prove to be as much of a reliable phrase to live by. General practices of businesses can sometimes
prove to be unethical, even though they are quite legal, or were simply unethical in their conduct and
operations, with no remorse. Unethical practices by businesses have often been a catalyst in their
demise. Hence, for business success, we might say, When in business, practicing integrity is good
business, because if it is adhered to, it can be a recipe for success.
According to an article, Unethical Rationalizations and Misconceptions, which was published by
ethicsalarms.com, there are countless excuses and reasons people justify unethical practices, whether
they are legal or illegal. Every form of excuse, It s done all the time, to It s always been done this way,
to Everybody accepts it, to Nobody s complained before, to It s too late to change now, to No harm, no
foul, to name a few. These justifications are clearly evident that the ABCDs of ethical decision making
have been bypassed.
When operating a business, it is more profitable to consider every aspect of the outcome of the
decisions that we make. We need to be aware of the facts of the entire situation. Who will it impact
most and to what degree? How do I feel about the decision I am going to make?

Jaycee Dugard s Kidnapping Research Paper
A Stolen Life: Inside Jaycee Dugard s Kidnapping In 1991, Jaycee Dugard was an ordinary, happy
eleven year old girl living in Lake Tahoe, California. On day, as she was walking to school, a strange
vehicle pulled up beside her. Sensing something was wrong, the child began to move away from the
suspicious van, but before she could get away she felt a rush of electricity through her body; she was
shot by a stun gun. Unable to resist, Jaycee was dragged into the car, covered with a blanket, and
driven to her kidnapper s hidden backyard where she would be held captive for eighteen years. When
Jaycee first arrived in the backyard, she was handcuffed and locked in the makeshift music room built
by Phillip Garrido, her kidnapper. The small room ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her writings are heart wrenching and full of longing for freedom, happiness, and her mother. At the
end of each entry she would draw heart shaped balloons and look at the moon, hoping her mother
could feel her love and sense that she was still out there somewhere. There were many times where
Jaycee and her girls were openly walking around the main house next to Philip s parole officers. Too
afraid to speak up, Dugard silently hoped they would recognize her and free her from the prison that
she was in, but any questions that they had Philip would answer and they didn t probe him further.
This led Dugard to develop a mistrust with law enforcement that she is still battling to get over,
because of the eighteen miserable birthdays she spent with two criminals and her children in a hidden
backyard. Once Phillip trusted Jaycee to keep quiet, she was allowed to go in public for the first time
in over ten years. She begged with her eyes for someone to ask her if she was the girl that had been
missing for so long, but no one did. That was, until a female cop s motherly instincts told her
something was up with Jaycee and her daughter s behavior around the Garridos. Although she couldn t
legally arrest him, she called his parole officer after doing a background check and digging up his
offense as a pedophile. He was then arrested at his home and Jaycee and her

Ethical and Legal Debates on Assisted Suicide and...
One of the greatest miracles in life, is life itself, but where is life there s death. So as unexpected as
life is shall death be the same, or can we choose on how we leave this earth. Over the years, the laws
and ethical consternation regarding the debatable subject of euthanasia and assisted suicide, have been
questioned frequently by society. Though the question may never be answered between euthanasia and
assisted suicide being right or wrong, the fact of the matter is that people are still choosing their fate.
In America, euthanasia refers to a person knowingly, and purposely taking another persons life, or in a
more factual meaning killing someone who in fact couldn t kill himself. Euthanasia also known as

Which would grant the patient death by natural causes.
Whether your for or against euthanasia or assisted suicide, one major part between life and death is the
cost of living. The price for End of Life care and life support has skyrocket over the past few years
because of technology. Although technology has improved over the years on sustaining life, it has not
been proving to cure certain illness, and the cost of certain machines can well but medical bills in the
thousands. In the United States alone, millions of people have no medical insurance, and the elderly,
the poor and minorities are often denied adequate treatment thats needed. Even doctors are being
forced by HMOs to lower the care for patients who can t afford it. Drugs for assisted suicide cost on
an average of $75 to $100, which makes them far less expensive than supplying medical care.
However, it s the patient that makes the ultimate decision between suffering with disease, or accepting
euthanasia/ assisted suicide. A person has the right to die with dignity, and since there is many
successful cases of assisted suicide a patient can only feel confident on making a big decision. For
example the death of P. Matheny was widely known as a successful assisted suicide. P. Matheny was
43 and had suffered Lou Gehrig s disease. For several months, Matheny struggled with a decision on

Who Invented The Atomic Bomb
Throughout all of history, humans have been creating weapons for waging war against one and
another or to protect something that is important to them. Over time, the weapons that humans use
have gone from just a simple wooden club, to a forged sword, and to high power firearms. However,
throughout history none of the weapons created led to a stalemate among any of the world s super
powers until the mid twentieth century with the development of the atomic bomb by the United States
and the Soviet Union. The reason why the development of the atomic bomb led to a stalemate has to
do with the idea of mutually assured destruction. The idea behind mutually assured destruction is that

There are several types of atomic bombs and the types changed based on how the bomb will achieve
critical mass. The first type of an atomic bomb would be the gun type fission bomb which was drop on
the city of Hiroshima during World War II. Scientists and the military believed that the gun type bomb
was so reliable that they did not test it before dropping it on the city of Hiroshima. The gun type bomb
contained two piece of uranium at both ends of a barrel, and when the two piece of uranium are
brought together it creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical mass. [5] The second type
of an atomic bomb would be the implosion fission bomb which was drop on the city of Nagasaki and
tested during the project Trinity. The implosion type bomb contained a neutron core, a plutonium pit, a
uranium tamper, and a layer of burning explosive. [5] Therefore, when the neutron core is crushed it
releases neutrons into the plutonium pit which creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical
mass. [5] The third type of an atomic bomb would be the boosted fission bomb which was tested
during Operation Greenhouse. The boosted fusion bomb utilized the same layer system from the
implosion bomb, but in the fissile core a small amount of deuterium/tritium gas is added to cause the
boost in blast yield. [5] The fourth type of an atomic bomb would be the staged radiation implosion

Women Discrimination Paper
The word discrimination can be described in many ways around the world. My paper talks about
female discrimination in the workplace and the battle for equality. Women have been fighting for their
rights since the early 1800s. During the 1960s, women started to demand equal rights and the same
opportunities that men had been given. In 1963 John F. Kennedy signed into law the Equal Pay Act, a
federal law amending the Fair Labor Standards Act signed into law by President Franklin D.
Roosevelt in 1938 ending the gender based pay discrimination.
The Fight Since the 1980s, the number of women holding managerial and professional positions has

Compare Hinduism And Hinduism
Buddhism and Hinduism are two popular religions that were found in India. It is commonly thought
that Buddhism and Hinduism are very similar religions, some may even think they are the same. This
thought comes up for many reasons including their spiritual practices, place of origin, and the problem
they believe life has. To many, it would be a surprise to learn how different these two religions truly
are from one another regardless of how much they resemble each other. Hindus tend to see the world
in a you get what you give type of way. They believe that every action one makes will affect their
future in one way or another. Samsara is the continuous cycle of life, death, and reincarnation. If one
acts good, they will in turn get good karma, leading to a better next life. If one behaves badly on the
other hand, they will obtain bad karma which will lead to suffering in the next incarnation. Hindus
believe a person can be born in different varieties, in each variety ones soul or atman is kept but the
body in which they are in can change. The atman can form into a human or any other living creature
mainly depending on its karma. Each variety is another chance for their atman to attain good karma.
Hindus also believe in the caste system, each caste has its own duties, or dharma . One must fulfill
these duties and maintain good karma in order to work their way up the caste. The higher up in the
caste system they are the better quality of life a person has. A legend has

Heart Of Darkness Analysis
In the novel Heart of Darkness, the characters who spend time in the heart of the jungle in the Congo,
seem to change as time passes by. One of the men who is most dramatically affected from this change
is Mr. Kurtz. This relates to what Pauline Hopkins once said in Contending Forces, And, after all, our
surroundings influence our lives and characters as much as fate, destiny or any supernatural agency.
Mr. Kurtz goes from a man with a loving fiance and great attributes to man with no morals and the
need for power. Mr. Kurtz was once a man with morals, but once he because a victim of the
overwhelming power he had in the jungle, he abandoned the person he once was. He originally
believed he could bring light to the Congo, which was shown with his painting of the woman, Then I
noticed a small sketch in oils... representing a woman, draped and blindfolded, carrying a lighted
torch. The background was somber almost black. 21 22 This shows how he uses the torch to show
how Kurtz is trying to bring light into the the jungle where only darkness is found. Despite this act,
Kurtz soon changes his view of light and dark, his actions become sinister and his main worry
becomes the obtainment of ivory and power over the Company. Kurtz becomes a God in the natives
eyes and he uses this to his advantage. They hold ceremonies in which sacrifices are made to him and

The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company operates within the upscale luxury hotel industry. While it could be

and Starwood Hotels Resorts. Therefore when analyzing this industry I will not be including cheap

At Ritz Carlton, electronic databases are used to track guest s preferences and tastes enabling them to
provide express check in for their regular guests. Legal and political conditions, such as war or
political strife between countries, limit international travel which can have a detrimental impact on
international locations. In addition to these extreme circumstances, legal restrictions, such as zoning
restrictions, may force Ritz to limit the height or size of their hotels in certain regions. Specific
international events, such as the current economic recession, have had major impacts on the demand
for luxury accommodations. Lastly demographics play a role in site location for a luxury hotel. The
population surrounding a hotel can often dictate the type and amount of clientele the hotel will

Having just analyzed the general environment surrounding the upscale and luxury hotel industry, the
next step in determining whether such an industry is attractive or not is to conduct an in depth external
analysis of the threats and opportunities facing the industry. Thanks to the help of Michael Porter and
his Five Forces Model, this analysis is not nearly as difficult or as time consuming as it may seem.

attractiveness of a market. These forces include the threat of entry, the threat of rivalry, the threat of

Television Sci Fi Drama The 100
The television sci fi drama The 100 follows the journey of 100 juvenile offenders who were sent down

Jason Rothenberg. Some of the main actors include Eliza Taylor who plays Clarke, Bob Morley who
plays Bellamy, Isaiah Washington who plays Jaha and Paige Turco who plays Abby. I chose this show

seasons, it has a strong female lead, and has positive representations on both race and sexuality. The
audience s response to the show has typically been positive and they really enjoyed the fact that there

Stereotypes Of Men And Women In The Game Of Thrones

means it could have, and does have, some exaggerated parts, but it gives a representation of what life

after covering this topic, I now believe it needs to be changed, as it is not fair. It is not fair because the

Argumentative Essay On Corn Ethanol
In 2005, federal mandates were placed to encourage the use of biofuel (Bullis). Biofuels can come
from many different sources, like sugar for example (Tyner et al. i), but the most prominent and most
controversial biofuel is corn ethanol. In 2007, President Bush (Bullis) expanded the quotas on ethanol
with the Energy Independency and Security Act (Tyner et al. i). Although there are other biofuels,
legislature has established ethanol as an additive to traditional petroleum based automobile fuels. Corn
ethanol is controversial because many believe that it is not more efficient than fossil fuels and raises
the price of food since livestock or humans could eat it.
Professor Don Hofstrand at Iowa State University says ...a 100 million gallon ethanol biorefinery will
reduce [greenhouse gas] emissions by approximately 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide
equivalents per year. Although ethanol requires greenhouse gases to be emitted for production, ethanol
fuel s net emissions are fifty four percent less than gasoline. Half of the emissions related to producing
ethanol are related to growing crops, while the other half is contributed to refining the fuel
(Hofstrand). The burning and production of ethanol combined has a smaller carbon footprint than
petroleum fuels. This makes it a good fuel substitution while even greener forms of energy are
developed to power automobiles and machinery. Reduced greenhouse gases can help slow climate
change.

economy. I never think you can put a price on protecting the people, but, the sad reality is that in today
s economic times, we have to. To hire a new recruit comes a price, it is just easier for the community
of the patrol officers to be expected to do more. In most cases these officers want to do more to solve
the crimes to put that faith back into the community that crimes will be resolved right away. Right
when a crime happens, most people instantly become fearful that it will happen again, so, they become
on edge, and question that the police will be able to catch the people that hurt them or robbed them.
With crimes being solved right away, that puts the fear at ease and lets them know they are safe and it
will not continue to happen. I was reading ahead a tad bit and came across theft that happens in
banks,, and how those people are caught the same day. For me, that instantly puts my mind at ease.
Years ago, one of the buildings I was working in, there was a theft that happened in the bank

Textual Analysis Of Art
Art exists everywhere, even in places that might not seem acceptable or logical to society today.
Museums, public schools, personal homes, and even the mountains contain pieces of art that
somebody created. Some artistic masterpieces catch the eye in a flashy, conspicuous way, while others
require more concentration and thought to perceive. Millions of artists receive recognition for their
works regularly. However, many more artists in this world will receive nothing from the world around
them except the enjoyment of creating the art they love so much. Thousands of places in the state of
Utah include exceptional art, but for this project, I decided to observe art in a setting more familiar to
me my hometown.

Amazingly enough, Donella Dean painted up until she reached the golden age of sixty five. Her art
classes started when she was just in fourth grade and continued through high school and even her
married life, so art was unceasingly a part of Donella. She was born in the year of 1927, in Idaho.
After a while, her family moved to Cokeville, Wyoming. Throughout those younger years of her life,
Donella sketched and painted often, and occasionally took classes that taught different techniques
along the way. Donella created the painting I observed in 1981 when she was 63 years old. Whenever
one of her children got married, she created a landscape painting for the newlyweds. Quite a few of
Donella s grandchildren also received original paintings from her.
Donella never learned how to paint with acrylic based paint, but her art teachers always encouraged
her to paint with oil based paint, instead. All the paintings that Donella painted for her children and
grandchildren used an oil based paint. She painted twenty one paintings similar to this one, of
different landscapes, before she painted the one I examined. Donella said she

Kosovo Tribunals
As one war crimes court shuts down, another starts up it was a historic day for international justice,
but it did not look like it. The case against Mr Mladic brings to an end the trials of the important
figures indicted by the tribunal. Created in 1993 by the UN Security Council, the Yugoslavia tribunal
ultimately indicted 161 people and sentenced 83 of them. The tribunal s biggest failure was its
inability to convince people in the former Yugoslavia that it was impartial. Mirko Klarin, a journalist
who urged the court s creation in an article in 1991, says one success was expanding the definition of
war crimes. The suspicion that war crimes tribunals are an alien imposition also afflicts the new

Albanians are protesting for independence, based on the region s autonomy under Marshal Tito. A
Series of Serbian attacks on ethnic Albanians in Yugoslavia s Kosovo province brought swift
economic retaliation from five Western powers. Such ancient history would appear to be just that were
it not for the fact that Kosovo is the Judea and Samaria of Serbia. Religious passions are a major
factor in Serbia s desire to control Kosovo. To maintain control over a majority Albanian population,
Milosevic has established a police state. That indifference is gone following a series of brutal raids on
Kosovo villages which the Serbs said were carried out in retaliation for acts of terrorism and secession
by ethnic Albanians. Until the emergence of the KLA and its revolutionary talk of a liberated territory,
the major leader among Albanians in Kosovo was Ibrahim Rugova, a moderate who heads the
Democratic League and who is the head of Kosovo s shadow government. This danger of an expanded
war, coupled with the brutality of the recent Serbian police attacks, has prompted Western leaders to
move more quickly against Milosevic than they did in 1991. In a 1993 report, Jeremy J. Stone,
traveling for the Federation of American Scientists, suggested four options in the Kosovo situation: a
partitioning with a special concern to keep the 14th century battle sites and

Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote showed courage by fighting for what is right for women. In Making

even though the bullies could go back to her. Even though both stories have the same theme, the
character s actions are very different. The story Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote Susan says what she

to give in. She said I shall never pay a dollar of your unjust penalty. She knew she was going to have
to go to jail but still fought and fought for the right thing. Susan B Anthony showed courage when she
traveled 13,000 miles in one year to give lectures all over the country in support of women s rights.
This definitely shows courage because back in that time you weren t allowed to travel across the
country which took courage to do. She got heckled or rotten eggs thrown at her which also took
courage. After Susan B Anthony s death, in the year 1920 Congress passed the 19th Amendment to the

Enlightenment According To Kant And The Enlightenment
nlightenment according to Kant (1784) is : man s emergence from his self imposed nonage. Nonage is
the inability to use one s own understanding without another s guidance. This nonage is self imposed
if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one s own
mind without another s guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) Have the courage to use your own
understanding, is therefore the motto of the enlightenment. (kant, 1784)
The age enlightenment was a move away from Christian period, an era where religion did not only
govern the dominant belief system, but also governed the way of life. Due to internal weaknesses in
Christianity, after it had become an institutionalised religion, the world once again was going into dark
ages. Thus the Enlightenment is literally, a way out of the dark .
The Enlightenment was an era in history in which all aspects of life, including culture, intellect etc,
were based primarily on reason. The most vital thought of the Enlightenment was the belief in
individuals rationality, that all individuals can think for themselves. Therefore, a person would not

Charles Perrault And The Brothers Grimm And Grimm Brothers
Although there are many versions of virtually every fairy tale known to man, not all of the different
adaptations are contrasting. The bases of stories tend to remain the same, due to the fact that the main
plots are unvarying. Throughout history, these famous fairytales have been passed on by word of
mouth. The two most well known authors who wrote their interpretations of fairy tales are French
author Charles Perrault (1628 1703), and The Brothers Grimm / Jacob (1785 1863) and Wilhelm
Grimm (1786 1859). Although Perrault wrote down his thoughts much earlier than the Grimm

Unlike in the version written by Perault, the Grimm Brothers take a creative path in which it is not
Bluebeard s appearance that makes others feel on edge when he is around, it is evident that that the
reason people find his presence discomforting is far deeper than his exterior. The list of variances
could go on and on, however, the main difference is the color of the man s beard. In the fairy tale
written by Perrault, Bluebeard indeed has a blue beard. However, this is not the case in the tale written
by the Grimm Brothers, where in reality Bluebeard s beard is veritably black. Not only are there
evident differences in the information presented in the writing, but in fact, the style of writing is much
different as well. With these main variances in the ideas of the story, one may think that the tale of
Bluebeard may differ between the two different versions, however that is not necessarily the case.
When reading the adaptation by Perrault, the reader may find the story slightly complex and
confusing. They ceased not to extol and envy the happiness of their friend (Perrault 2). It can be noted
that Perrault uses words that may seem to be very formal and professional sounding, however, the
reader can easily find themselves getting lost in the ocean of complex words and phrases. The writing
of the Brothers Grimm, however, is much more understandable and to the point. They shortened the
scene where Bluebeard s wife invites her friends over, which is the

Co Operative Education And Traditional Education
Unlike other subjects that may require work and effort to understand, people tend to think they know
what education is. It is familiar topic: a word in the daily use. It s all around us. We go to college or
university to get educated. We entrust our children to schools in the belief that they will become
knowledgeable and skilled (Wood 11). Evidently, education is a long term process, which almost all
people must experience in life. So that, the choices associated with major, future job or kind of

As evidence of this, according to Learning to Learn, College teachers have expressed frustration about
attendance in class, uncompleted reading assignments, and student focus on grades rather than

value of what they are learning, and that many faculty rely too heavily on lectures for transmitting
information (Wirth and Perkins 2 3). Moreover, the rote learning style, which is the memorization of
information based on repetition, though might not understand basic content deeply or may

how environmental factors were perceived to a range of people and ages with different amputations. A

While their reasoning was understandable, I was curious as to how the results would have changed
had they included it. Their results were from the frequency of their participant s survey answers, while
the researchers looked at different types of physical activity for people with different amputation and
activity levels. Their percentage comparison between groups did have a difference in some areas, but I
question whether it is as great a difference outside the survey. In their tables regarding what would
help the participant engage in physical activity more and barriers that impact them, the percentages
seemed very practical and useful. For example, Littman et al. included that many more participants
said a free or low cost membership would benefit them, while fewer said group exercise class would
encourage them to engage in physical activity (2014). Using group exercise classes to encourage
physical activity seemed to me a major component in increasing or enticing exercise, so the
information that fewer people would prefer it really makes me question that perspective. That
knowledge, as well as the frequented barriers mentioned in the survey, could potentially help those
designing physical activity plans that can be adhered to consistently. The last article I chose was

Ethnic Minorities in America
In the United States the term minority often infers membership within an ethnic or cultural minority
group. However, this term also encompasses other groups that lack equality, such as women,
homosexuals and people with disabilities. By definition, the hearing majority classifies Deaf people as
minorities because of their inability to hear. Yet linguists and social scientists argue that the basis of
Deaf people s status as a minority group is not one of disability, but as a cultural and linguistic
minority (Lane, Hoffmeister and Bahan: 1996: 335 6). In order to assert that Deaf people are a
linguistic and cultural minority in America the characteristics of a minority group must first be

Unequal treatment and the lack of power are phenomena Deaf people have endured throughout time
because of their inability to hear. Historically hearing people viewed deafness as a defect of the mind
and body and they did not afford the Deaf the right to an education, own property or sign contracts.
Deaf people have long been subjugated by hearing people in all areas of life. The most blatant act of
audism occurred in the education of Deaf children. From 1880 until today hearing people have
dictated that the method of education utilized should be one that enables the Deaf to more readily
assimilate into the mainstream society. In order to achieve this goal, Deaf children were forced to wear
auditory trainers (machines that supposedly allowed them to listen to teachers voices) and were
slapped with rulers if they attempted to sign or gesture out of frustration. (Graybill video) The focus of
Deaf education was not about teaching Deaf children material appropriate to grade level but altering
behavior and improving speech ability. Even with such an antagonistic environment the Deaf were
forced into obtaining an education but for what means? Until 1880 many Deaf people worked as
teachers of the Deaf, but after the Milan Conference of 1880, which decreed that all instruction of
Deaf be done through spoken language, Deaf teachers were terminated and forced into menial labor.

Facilitating Change in Health and Social Care Essay
Introduction
This essay seeks to discuss the factors that facilitate change in health and social care. This can be
achieved by assessing the challenges that the major factors of change bring using the Care Quality
Commission of the Quality Care Commission for the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust (RUHB).
The second task aims to evaluate contemporary changes being inaugurated in the provision of health
and social care services. In addition to this, a strategy and criteria will be devised in order to measure
these recent changes including how the impact of these changes can be measured and evaluated.

The NHS Operating Framework introduced by the coalition government sets out the planning and
financial requirements for RUHB in 2012/13 and the basis of their accountability (DH, 2012). As a
result, the 2013 certified that funding for health in England be frozen for up 2015/16 thereby requiring
RUBH to underspend allocated funding from the government such as putting a 1% cap on pay award.
Socially, this will include factors such as behavior of staff and service users, partnership working,
quality of care, etc. These factors can drive change in diverse ways in the RUHB. For example, the
NICE Guidelines on Behavior Change make recommendations on individual level behavior
interventions that is aimed at changing the behavior that can be dangerous to the health of staff and
service users such as smoking, alcohol abuse, lack of physical activity, safe sex, etc. (NICE, 2014).
Technologically, the introduction of information communication technology has resulted in faster
communication, appropriate storing and sharing of information and records of service users between
health and social care professionals. As a result of the CQC inspection, the RUHB revises their health
records management policy to more accurately reflect where information about service user such as
fluid intake and output in each ward should be recorded (CQC Report, 2013)

  • 2. Analysis Of The Garden Party By Mansfield The main idea for an interpretation of a deeper meaning of the story, The Garden Party by Mansfield, is relating life, and death to be held hand in hand. In other words, one day I can live happy and think I can be eternal but death is always near. I don t usually like to think about death because it can be something scary and overwhelming. Although in this story, I can see that Mrs. Sheridan is a woman from a high class society. A family that is concerned about with what other people think and the fact of just having a blast every time they are able to. When Mrs. Sheridan heard about the death of Mr. Scott she felt pity for a moment, but continued her party arrangements. In contrast, her daughter, Laura, seemed more humane because when her mother thought about giving the party s leftovers to her neighbors, she felt that it was rude. Therefore, I can see that she feels empathy with the death of Mr. Scott. One of the themes that I can constantly see in society is economic division. Those divisions can sometimes be harmful directly and indirectly to society. People from high class society tend to segregate those who do not compare to them, but not all of high class people can act for pettiness. One of the specific characteristics which is imparted to a character in this story is humility and empathy. I believe that in this specific story, Laura has changed along the story in the eyes of the reader since at the beginning, she was in charge of the set up of the Garden Party, ... I believe we provided good support for the actors and when our piece came we performed well. I was very proud of how collaborative are group was in performance and how we conveys a clear image to the audience of which I believe conformed to the Greek theatre style. The Blackfoot tribe tells the story of poor boys, riddled by anguish and disgrace, decided to become stars when their parents were unable to clothe them in yellow buffalo calf robes. The Pleiades not visible during the spring and summer seasons signified the time for planting seeds and hunting buffalo. The Cheyenne tribe tells a different story regarding the star cluster. • 8. Unethical Practices For Business Success Essay We have heard the well used phrase, When in Rome, do as the Romans do, and have applied it well as we travel among other countries and cultures, with great success. However, in business, it does not prove to be as much of a reliable phrase to live by. General practices of businesses can sometimes prove to be unethical, even though they are quite legal, or were simply unethical in their conduct and operations, with no remorse. Unethical practices by businesses have often been a catalyst in their demise. Hence, for business success, we might say, When in business, practicing integrity is good business, because if it is adhered to, it can be a recipe for success. According to an article, Unethical Rationalizations and Misconceptions, which was published by ethicsalarms.com, there are countless excuses and reasons people justify unethical practices, whether they are legal or illegal. Every form of excuse, It s done all the time, to It s always been done this way, to Everybody accepts it, to Nobody s complained before, to It s too late to change now, to No harm, no foul, to name a few. These justifications are clearly evident that the ABCDs of ethical decision making have been bypassed. On day, as she was walking to school, a strange vehicle pulled up beside her. Sensing something was wrong, the child began to move away from the suspicious van, but before she could get away she felt a rush of electricity through her body; she was shot by a stun gun. Unable to resist, Jaycee was dragged into the car, covered with a blanket, and driven to her kidnapper s hidden backyard where she would be held captive for eighteen years. At the end of each entry she would draw heart shaped balloons and look at the moon, hoping her mother could feel her love and sense that she was still out there somewhere. There were many times where Jaycee and her girls were openly walking around the main house next to Philip s parole officers. Too afraid to speak up, Dugard silently hoped they would recognize her and free her from the prison that she was in, but any questions that they had Philip would answer and they didn t probe him further. This led Dugard to develop a mistrust with law enforcement that she is still battling to get over, because of the eighteen miserable birthdays she spent with two criminals and her children in a hidden backyard. Once Phillip trusted Jaycee to keep quiet, she was allowed to go in public for the first time in over ten years. So as unexpected as life is shall death be the same, or can we choose on how we leave this earth. Over the years, the laws and ethical consternation regarding the debatable subject of euthanasia and assisted suicide, have been questioned frequently by society. Though the question may never be answered between euthanasia and assisted suicide being right or wrong, the fact of the matter is that people are still choosing their fate. Whether your for or against euthanasia or assisted suicide, one major part between life and death is the cost of living. The price for End of Life care and life support has skyrocket over the past few years because of technology. Although technology has improved over the years on sustaining life, it has not been proving to cure certain illness, and the cost of certain machines can well but medical bills in the thousands. In the United States alone, millions of people have no medical insurance, and the elderly, the poor and minorities are often denied adequate treatment thats needed. Even doctors are being forced by HMOs to lower the care for patients who can t afford it. Drugs for assisted suicide cost on an average of $75 to $100, which makes them far less expensive than supplying medical care. However, it s the patient that makes the ultimate decision between suffering with disease, or accepting euthanasia/ assisted suicide. A person has the right to die with dignity, and since there is many successful cases of assisted suicide a patient can only feel confident on making a big decision. For example the death of P. • 11. Who Invented The Atomic Bomb Throughout all of history, humans have been creating weapons for waging war against one and another or to protect something that is important to them. Over time, the weapons that humans use have gone from just a simple wooden club, to a forged sword, and to high power firearms. However, throughout history none of the weapons created led to a stalemate among any of the world s super powers until the mid twentieth century with the development of the atomic bomb by the United States and the Soviet Union. The reason why the development of the atomic bomb led to a stalemate has to do with the idea of mutually assured destruction. There are several types of atomic bombs and the types changed based on how the bomb will achieve critical mass. The first type of an atomic bomb would be the gun type fission bomb which was drop on the city of Hiroshima during World War II. Scientists and the military believed that the gun type bomb was so reliable that they did not test it before dropping it on the city of Hiroshima. The gun type bomb contained two piece of uranium at both ends of a barrel, and when the two piece of uranium are brought together it creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical mass. • 13. Compare Hinduism And Hinduism Buddhism and Hinduism are two popular religions that were found in India. It is commonly thought that Buddhism and Hinduism are very similar religions, some may even think they are the same. This thought comes up for many reasons including their spiritual practices, place of origin, and the problem they believe life has. To many, it would be a surprise to learn how different these two religions truly are from one another regardless of how much they resemble each other. Hindus tend to see the world in a you get what you give type of way. They believe that every action one makes will affect their future in one way or another. Samsara is the continuous cycle of life, death, and reincarnation. If one acts good, they will in turn get good karma, leading to a better next life. If one behaves badly on the other hand, they will obtain bad karma which will lead to suffering in the next incarnation. Hindus believe a person can be born in different varieties, in each variety ones soul or atman is kept but the body in which they are in can change. The atman can form into a human or any other living creature mainly depending on its karma. Each variety is another chance for their atman to attain good karma. One of the men who is most dramatically affected from this change is Mr. Kurtz. This relates to what Pauline Hopkins once said in Contending Forces, And, after all, our surroundings influence our lives and characters as much as fate, destiny or any supernatural agency. Mr. Kurtz goes from a man with a loving fiance and great attributes to man with no morals and the need for power. Mr. Kurtz was once a man with morals, but once he because a victim of the overwhelming power he had in the jungle, he abandoned the person he once was. He originally believed he could bring light to the Congo, which was shown with his painting of the woman, Then I noticed a small sketch in oils... representing a woman, draped and blindfolded, carrying a lighted torch. The background was somber almost black. 21 22 This shows how he uses the torch to show how Kurtz is trying to bring light into the the jungle where only darkness is found. Despite this act, Kurtz soon changes his view of light and dark, his actions become sinister and his main worry becomes the obtainment of ivory and power over the Company. She looked at him with reassurance in her eyes, so Taran focused, made a short, clean swipe with the blade against her lower arm, and she bled. Television Sci Fi Drama The 100 The television sci fi drama The 100 follows the journey of 100 juvenile offenders who were sent down from space and their struggle to survive on Earth 97 years after a nuclear war wiped out most of the planet. The juveniles were sent down to Earth to see if it was inhabitable again, once their Ark in space, that holds 2,400 from twelve different countries, began running out of air. Upon arriving to Earth, the 100 teens quickly ran into problems with the Grounders, mountain men, reapers, and the city of light that managed to survive the war. The 100 first aired on March 19, 2014 and its director is Jason Rothenberg. Some of the main actors include Eliza Taylor who plays Clarke, Bob Morley who plays Bellamy, Isaiah Washington who plays Jaha and Paige Turco who plays Abby. I chose this show to analyze because there are many different languages spoken throughout the course of its three seasons, it has a strong female lead, and has positive representations on both race and sexuality. The audience s response to the show has typically been positive and they really enjoyed the fact that there are multiple gay couples throughout the show. The audience also enjoys the plot because of its fast pace, but find the director to be racist because he mostly kills off people of color. In addition, variety.com just put out a list of the worst shows for 2016 and included The 100 on it because the director also killed off one of the main gay cast members that the audience became attached to. • 21. Argumentative Essay On Corn Ethanol In 2005, federal mandates were placed to encourage the use of biofuel (Bullis). Biofuels can come from many different sources, like sugar for example (Tyner et al. i), but the most prominent and most controversial biofuel is corn ethanol. In 2007, President Bush (Bullis) expanded the quotas on ethanol with the Energy Independency and Security Act (Tyner et al. i). Although there are other biofuels, legislature has established ethanol as an additive to traditional petroleum based automobile fuels. Corn ethanol is controversial because many believe that it is not more efficient than fossil fuels and raises the price of food since livestock or humans could eat it. Professor Don Hofstrand at Iowa State University says ...a 100 million gallon ethanol biorefinery will reduce [greenhouse gas] emissions by approximately 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents per year. Although ethanol requires greenhouse gases to be emitted for production, ethanol fuel s net emissions are fifty four percent less than gasoline. Half of the emissions related to producing ethanol are related to growing crops, while the other half is contributed to refining the fuel (Hofstrand). The burning and production of ethanol combined has a smaller carbon footprint than petroleum fuels. This makes it a good fuel substitution while even greener forms of energy are developed to power automobiles and machinery. Reduced greenhouse gases can help slow climate change. In order to achieve this goal, Deaf children were forced to wear auditory trainers (machines that supposedly allowed them to listen to teachers voices) and were slapped with rulers if they attempted to sign or gesture out of frustration. (Graybill video) The focus of Deaf education was not about teaching Deaf children material appropriate to grade level but altering behavior and improving speech ability. Even with such an antagonistic environment the Deaf were forced into obtaining an education but for what means? Until 1880 many Deaf people worked as teachers of the Deaf, but after the Milan Conference of 1880, which decreed that all instruction of Deaf be done through spoken language, Deaf teachers were terminated and forced into menial labor. The NHS Operating Framework introduced by the coalition government sets out the planning and financial requirements for RUHB in 2012/13 and the basis of their accountability (DH, 2012). As a result, the 2013 certified that funding for health in England be frozen for up 2015/16 thereby requiring RUBH to underspend allocated funding from the government such as putting a 1% cap on pay award. Socially, this will include factors such as behavior of staff and service users, partnership working, quality of care, etc. These factors can drive change in diverse ways in the RUHB. For example, the NICE Guidelines on Behavior Change make recommendations on individual level behavior interventions that is aimed at changing the behavior that can be dangerous to the health of staff and service users such as smoking, alcohol abuse, lack of physical activity, safe sex, etc. (NICE, 2014). Technologically, the introduction of information communication technology has resulted in faster communication, appropriate storing and sharing of information and records of service users between health and social care professionals. As a result of the CQC inspection, the RUHB revises their health records management policy to more accurately reflect where information about service user such as fluid intake and output in each ward should be recorded (CQC Report, 2013) 1.2 Assessing the challenges that key factors of change brings to health and ... • 37. Leonard Pitts Jr Take the Time to Read a Book Leonard Pitts, Jr. says, I am not alone. He continues, There are at least two of us who have forgotten how to read. He doesn t mean that people have forgotten how to read; rather people have forgotten how to become one with the text. There is more than one person who feels that concentration becomes blurred when the text in front of one requires full attention. Short ads and topics one finds interesting are usually easier to read than intellectual books that are imposed on one. It s a little funny, isn t it? I liked this article because I identify myself with it. I often begin reading a paragraph and my brain begins to move away from what my eyes are reading. The problem is that I don t realize it until I get to the end of the page. Like Pitts, I have found myself drifting away or unable to sit down to read material that my job requires me to study and discuss. I agree with Nicholas Carr s theory, Is Google Making Us Stupid? Carr argues that search engines, blogs, hyperlinks, etc. dump more information that one can possibly read. I agree with that, and I think ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I remember that when I was a child I had to go to the library and spend countless hours searching for the right book. Nowadays, I usually Google for a narrowed list of books on the topic I need to find. I don t think I will stop using Google, at this point I think I d be a fool not to use it. However, I want to achieve the same results Pitts did when he read a paper book titled What happened, by Scott McClellan. Pitts says, It wasn t until somewhere around the third hour that I began to unclench. He is referring to the time when he put himself on a chair that would keep him from distractions. He achieved, once again, submerging in the text. I shall find an uncomfortable chair, turn my phone off, get to that third hour and continue reading ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
