Argumentative Essay Zoos
Do zoos benefit and improve the lives of animals, or are they catastrophic and disastrous to all these
creatures? This has been a huge debate ever since zoos have been created. Numerous people believe
they are horrid and an issue to animals. In reality, zoos benefit and improve the lives of these animals
for a great amount of reasons.
To illustrate, zoos promote animal conservation. Most animals that have lived in a zoo never
experienced the wild. According to the Conversation, it implies, Everyone believes the wild is a safer
habitat than in zoos, despite drastic threats of climate change, increased poaching, and destruction of
animal s habitats for palm oil. Other examples of how zoos promote animal conservation are how after
ten years of hard work to support and strengthen the amount of endangered California condors, a type
of vulture, the Los Angeles and San Diego zoos have increased the population from about two dozen
to about 170 birds (Are Zoos Good or Bad for Animals?). In addition, there are 232 accredited zoos
with Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA s), which helps endangered species to maintain
healthy populations of animals that are genetically diverse and stable so they don t overpopulate and
endanger other species (How do Zoos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author described, With several programs supported toward both children and adults, zoos educate
people about the importance of conservation and the needs and demands of animals (Zoos: The
Historical Debate). After being educated about these animals, people may spark a passion for biology,
conservation, and the environment (The Conversation). In Britain, all accredited zoos must at least
have an education program and a written strategy with it (The Conversation). Also, some accredited
zoos reach further than these basic requirements to educate people (The Conservation). Zoos help
educate people, but they also support further wildlife

Essay about Role Reversal in King Lear
Role Reversal in King Lear
King Lear, known as one of Shakespeare s greatest tragedies, deeply affects its audience by playing
out the destruction of two families. At the end of this play two of the protagonists, King Lear and his
loyal friend the Earl of Gloucester, die after having suffered through major injustices at the hands of
their own children. These characters deaths are incredibly tragic because they are brought on by their
own actions instead of by the circumstances that surround them. Lear and Gloucester are not bad men
but rather good men that make the fatal mistake of not acting according to their positions in life. In
doing so, they ultimately force their children, Cordelia and Edgar respectively, to take on ... Show

In the 1985 production of this play starring Lawrence Olivier, Lear enters the opening scene lovingly
arm in arm with Cordelia. He then sits on his throne and has a large map of his kingdom spread out on
the floor before him. When he utters the words in 1.1.155, he unceremoniously throws his crown onto
the ground in the middle of the map. I thought this was excellent stage direction because in this one
movement he sets the tone for the problems that will come as a result of his unthinking action.
Much like Lear, Gloucester opens the play by shunning his role that of a father. He embarrasses his
illegitimate son, Edmund, when he says to Kent I have so often blushed to acknowledge him that now
I am brazed to t (1.1.10 11). He then goes on to minimize his affection for his legitimate son, Edgar,
by saying that he . . . is no dearer in my account (1.1.20 21). A father has two choices regarding a child
conceived through an affair; he can either deny the child s existence or accept the child into his family
as one of his own. Gloucester lamely attempts both with Edmund. In addition, his comment about
Edgar send a mixed message regarding the son he considers his heir. In the Olivier version of this
play, the stage direction has Edmund standing nearby while Gloucester converses with Kent. When
Gloucester speaks the words in 1.1.10 11, he throws his arm around Edmund s shoulder and
laughingly taps him on the chest. The stage direction here works well because the

AJR- Indie Pop Band
AJR is an indie pop band containing three brothers Adam, 23, Jack, 16 and Ryan,19 from New York
City. Their musical sound incorporates oldies music with a modern twist. According to a personal
interview, AJR stated their musical influence is that, We grew up listening to 50s and 60s music from
The Beach Boys to Simon and Garfunkel. They have really inspired our sound. We combine those
stylings with the more contemporary sounds of Fun, Imagine Dragons and Vampire Weekend. We like
to think that our sound is pretty signature. (AJR 2013) In 2007, AJR started street performing in and
around parks in Manhattan and playing gigs in small music venues such as Sullivan Hall and The
Bitter End. According to Billboard magazine, in an interview with AJR, Adam stated We realized that
the three of us could sing together and our voices worked really well harmonizing. (Hyman 2013) AJR
continued performing for the next seven years until 2013 when they realized that they can pursue their
musical career professionally. In 2012 during Hurricane Sandy, Ryan wrote a song called I m Ready

Taking a Look at Cholera
Cholera is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. An infection from this
bacterium, if not treated soon, can cause serious illness or even death within hours of contracting the
infection¹. Vibrio cholerae infects the large intestine, causing extreme cases of diarrhea in which an
individual has the potential to die within hours of developing symptoms due to dehydration.
Symptoms of the disease include rapid heart rate, hypotension, and dry mucous membranes².
The cholera virus infects mainly humans, but rare cases were also found in other mammals, such as
dogs and bison. The bacterium that causes cholera is mainly found in places where a main source for
drinking water is contaminated with fecal matter³. Cholera is estimated to affect about 3 through 5
million people annually, and it causes 100,000 120,000 deaths each year as well. Symptoms for
cholera typically begin to show up within 2 3 days but cases have been reported where it took upwards
of 5 days for individuals to begin to feel symptoms of the disease². Cholera is reported to have
originated in Russia, and then spread through means of travel and trade to other countries, including
North America. There have been 6 pandemics reported across the world over the past two centuries,
which is a larger number of widespread disease than most other infectious diseases⁶. While there are
not many cases reported in the United States, this does not mean that the disease should not be treated

Thomas And Two Different Jesus
Joel Brizzee 10/17/14 REL 321/ Shoemaker Luke, Thomas and Two Different Jesus The juxtaposition
of any two writings is a formidable task. The content of each, even if they seem alike, is a small part in
determining similarities and differences. One must also look at the styles, authors, themes, supposed
audiences and authorial intent. This front becomes even more difficult while exegeting and
deciphering ancient texts because of how far removed the writings are from modern understanding
and scholarship. It is also further complicated when one lacks the factual knowledge of which piece
was written first and/or if both texts were using a third source at the time of their creation. These
difficulties find their apex at the study of Christian history and all of its subsequent writings. In
particular, the gospels according to Thomas and Luke, while they have similarities and at times
identical phraseology are vastly different when one considers their theological understandings,
themes, format and style. Firstly, format and style will be considered. This is one of the biggest
differences between the two gospels. The format of Luke s gospel and Thomas are clearly different.
Luke, as much as it is technically a narrative, has elements which can be argued that it is an epistle as
well. For example, in his opening verses, Luke is addressing this letter to Theophilus. Not only is this
different than Thomas , which lacks this style, but also unique to Luke as a gospel itself.

Symptoms of Lupus Essays
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that attacks women between the ages of 15 and 40. It occurs less
often in men than in women. The people affected by lupus vary depending on the country or region. In
the US alone, the prevalence rate is highest among Asians of Hawaii, blacks of Caribbean origin, and
Native Americans of the Sioux, Arapahoe, and Crow tribes. Lupus is a disease that affects the immune
system. We can think of the immune system as an army within the body with hundreds of defenders
(known as antibodies). They defend the body from attack by germs and viruses. In lupus, however, the
immune system becomes overactive and creates antibodies that attack healthy tissues in the body, such
as: the skin, kidneys, lungs, heart and brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most common drugs that can cause lupus are procainamide, used for heart problems, hydralazine
used for high blood pressure, and dilantin used for seizures. Drug induced lupus is usually found in
older men and women of all races. The cause is not known, but certain factors combined are thought
to be significant contributors to the development of lupus. These include genetic defects, hormonal
factors, medications, some infections, exposure to ultraviolet B light, and chemical exposure. Some of
the infections that are suspected triggers are the Epstein Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, parvovirus, and
hepatitis C. Some known chemical exposures include trichloroethylene found in well water and silica
dust.
The most common symptoms are fatigue, rashes, or joint pain. Other symptoms that might develop are
skin problems, sensitivity to light, neuropsychiatric problems, fever, changes in weight, hair loss,
and/or swollen glands. Some specific skin problems are skin rashes, i.e., the facial butterfly rash.
Raynaud s phenomenon is often common, affecting the fingers, toes, ears, or tip of the nose. About
90% of lupus patients have fatigue in various degrees. Symptoms depend on what body organs are
affected and how seriously they are affected. This disease can cause problems in nearly any system of
the body, including the:
• Heart
• Kidney
• Lung
• Digestive system
• Blood cells and related organs
• Blood s clotting factors

Pokemonke Treatment Plan
My treatment kit for children with communication disorders consists of 5 activities. The first involves
a cardboard box covered in construction paper made to look like a monster. This monster box has an
opening for its mouth where items can be dropped through. Once the pieces are placed inside, the
child cannot take them out, but there is a hidden opening under one of the sides of the box, allowing
the clinician to remove the pieces later. The monster box would be appropriate for all children, both
male and female, but may be most appropriate for children that are 3 to 5 years old. This activity was
designed in particular for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, as they tend to have difficulties
with turn taking. To address turn taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This activity includes laminated Pokéballs , a dry erase marker, and Pokémon cards. In this activity,
the client searches for Pokéballs that have been hidden around the room and must produce the target
sound or word that is on the back of the Pokéball for as many trials as the clinician wishes to elicit.
Should the client successfully produce those words, they will get to keep the Pokéball and capture a
Pokémon by choosing a Pokémon card. To win the game, the client must collect at least 3 Pokémon
cards that he will use to battle the clinician, who has her own Pokémon set aside. Given the abstract
and multi step nature of this activity, this activity would be most appropriate for older children ages 7
to 15. This activity is designed for addressing articulation disorders because a target phoneme or word
can easily be written on the back of each Pokéball and drilled. The third activity in my treatment kit is
a story taco. For this activity, I folded a paper plate in half and cut four different colored pieces of
construction paper to put inside. Each color has a different label: setting, characters, conflict, and
theme. After reading a short story, the client will fill in each piece and place it in their story taco.
Then, the client will use their taco to Taco bout the story. This particular activity would address
delayed receptive and expressive language skills, as the client not only has to analyze a story but also

Interval level of measure classifies and order measurement, but also determine the distance between
each interval on a scale that labels low to the high interval. An example is an emergency room nurse
may ask her patient to tell her on a scale 1 10, which number would represent the pain they are
encountering. Also, a temperature can be used as an interval level of measure in determining the
distance between 94 and 96 Celsius degree is the same distance as the temperature of 100 Celsius to
102 Celsius(Statistic Solution, 2016). Therefore, due to it, characteristic this level of data has an equal

Beowulf s Acts Of Bravery
The courageous Beowulf
Beowulf shows numerous acts of bravery. He has gone through various battles throughout the book.
He went through the battle with Grendel. This battle is where Grendel first arrives to the town. The
second battle he faced was the battel with Grendel s mother. The third battel was the last battle. Where
Beowulf kills the fire expectorating dragon.
In the battle with Grendel is where , Grendel came, hoping to kill anyone he could trap on the trip to

Beowulf and his men are expecting Grendel s presence. As Grendel appears into herot hall Beowulf
lounges to kill the monster Grendel. As Beowulf launches to kill Grendel, he ends up ripping Grendel
s arm off with his own two hands , killing Grendel . For that Beowulf was a hero to the village, but
only for a short period of time.
Soon After Beowulf ripped Grendel s arm off. Grendel left in tears. Grendel returned to his mother to
die. Which provokes the next battle. The battle against Grendel s mother. Grendel s mother a waits for

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold By Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Fake News : Analyzing Gabriel García Márquez s subtle commentary and use of minor characters
through syntax, juxtaposition, and periphrasis
Chronicle of a Death Foretold revolves around the reporting of the murder of Santiago Nasar by the
author; Gabriel García Márquez, who operates under the pretense of impartiality and journalistic
integrity to create a subdued commentary through his minor characters. Márquez provides
commentary on sociopolitical controversies frequent in his portrayed Columbian culture by
juxtaposition and periphrasis using minor characters such as Victoria Guzmán, Father Amador, and
Colonel Lazaro Aponte. In this effect, Márquez preserves his façade of journalistic style and narrative
of a chronicle while making a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The critical nature of Santiago s relationship with Victoria Guzmán allows Márquez to satirize the
servant master and patriarchal complexes present in his portrayed culture. The sexual relationship
between Ibrahim Nasar and Victoria Guzmán, parallels that of the relationship between Santiago
Nasar and Divina Flor and highlights the social constructs and environment, which reduced Victoria
Guzmán into servitude through the juxtaposition of the aforementioned combative personalities of
Victoria Guzmán and Santiago. Márquez is successful in the sense that he can create a social
commentary on the portrayed Arabic and Columbian cultures while still maintaining false objectivity
by inserting variation into separate accounts. Márquez s uses periphrasis, syntax, and chronological
divisions between chapters to subdue overt comparison between the portrayed values of Columbian
culture and its societal norms with the conflicting relationship of Victoria Guzmán and Santiago
Nasar, effectively shrouding his commentary.
Márquez provides a religious and political commentary through the comparison of independent action
and duty to fate and religion, when Father Amador is ordered by Colonel Lazaro Aponte to

Ancient Roman Home
It is amazing to know that the concept of architectural design to homes had already flourished even in
ancient Rome. The layout and functions of every Roman homes were intricately laid out for the
comfort of its dwellers. The pattern and designs were made susceptible to the heat of the
Mediterranean climate. Therefore, it is typical among the houses of the ancient Rome to have an
atrium and peristylium. These two parts of the Roman house were important. Its primary function is to
ventilate the corridors and rooms. This types of houses were common designs in both urban and rural
areas. On other hand, there were also big houses which refers to villas, where the rich people lived. In
addition, there were also tenement houses where poor people live, particularly to the household
workers or slaves ( The Romans web, n.d).
Atrium is an open space with a garden on it. When it rains the water directly goes inside, so they had

The spaces in homes designed only for two purposes for dining (triclinium) and for sleeping
(cubiculum). The Greek influence in those dwellings was evident. In the front of the home most parts
of the house were named in Latin, however at the back of the house all parts of it were named in
Greek (Roman Empire.net, n.d).
In conclusion, we can see among the different types of houses in the ancient Rome the distinction and
gaps among the rich, middle class and the poor in terms of their homes. Villas and high end flats are
for the rich; town houses, for the middle class and filthy and dilapidated buildings were for the poor.
One thing I observed that if you are poor you must live in a dirty place and rich to a squeaky clean
abode. Even in our present time, this issue still prevails among many countries in the world. However,
is it possible for a poor person to live and breath in clean homes if they

The Duel Essay
In reviewing John Lukacs, The Duel, I noticed that the author has other intentions in mind besides the
facts. Lukacs gives a very precise account of the actualy events during those eighty days but in my
opinion he wants the reader to grab the bigger concepts. One of these concepts is that Lukacs wants
the reader to honestly consider just how close the Allies came to losing the war. Another of these
notions is the idea that the main difference between Churchill and Hitler concerned nationalism versus
patriotism and a third idea is just how greatly history can be effected by the courageous decisions of a
few people.Lukacs makes strong mention of how close Hitler came to victory.
Hitler got everything he wanted for so long, without even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can all understand this, especially when looking back at the horror of WWII. Hitler abused the
idea of nationalism and thet is why the author made sure not to leave this footnote out of his book.
Hitler got the german people to follow him under this demented idea that Germany should be
considered better than everybody else, and yet it is astonishing that nobody seemed to noticed that
Hitler was not even a German. Lukacs wants the reader to raise these questions to themselves so they
can see how unique this entire situation was.
The idea that the entire course of history is changed by the decisions of a few people is a very
important notion in the book. The hesitance of Hitler in early July is especially important and vital to
the outcome of the war. Lukacs depicts the two men differently then one would expect. In this
evaluation, Hitler does not want to attack Britain. He wants them to simply make peace, of course on
his terms.
He was not sure if England would go for this, and if they did not, he knew that the time had come to
force them to do so. He could not shake Churchill, no matter how many other leaders crumbled. Hitler
s generals wanted to use force, but Hitler remained reluctant. The author effectively exhibits Hitler s
hesitance. He makes the evil man seem human saying that Hitler wanted to make a peace proposal on
a great and generous scale. (159). However, it

The War between the States
The Civil War also known as the War Between the States was a war fought from 1861 to 1865. The
war was fought in the United States after seven Southern slave sates declared their separation to form
the Confederate States of America. The Southern states were known as the Confederacy. But, the
states that remained which were the Northern States were called the Union. The War was the deadliest
war in American history; it killed approximately 620,000 soldiers. The soldiers died from combat,
accidents, starvation, and diseases. The Southern States declared secession because they did not want
to get rid of slavery. However, the Northern States and Abraham Lincoln had abolished slavery and
were completely against it. This made the Southern states upset; it became the major cause of The
Civil War.
On April 12, 1861, the deadliest was begun, shots were fired. The Confederate soldiers attacked the
Union s Fort Sumter in South Carolina. General Beauregard sent Major Anderson a message an hour
before the attack saying he would fire if Anderson and his soldiers didn t surrender. An hour passed
and Anderson did not surrender so the firing began. Major Anderson and 68 of his soldiers were inside
the fort when the attack began. A couple months prior Anderson moved his troops from Fort Moultrie
to Fort Sumter, because he thought Fort Sumter was more protected. Fort Sumter had been the only
fort in South Carolina that was not seized. On the day of the attack when the Confederate opened fire,

Scott Deeter s Ventri Ethical Dilemmas
he problem that is facing Scott Deeter and Ventria are the critics. Scott Deeter wants to expand
Ventria, and allow rice to be grown with man made medicine. There have been many discussions
following this issue. Mostly that the rice will contaminate the rice intended for human food, among
animal food. There also are comments regarding to the environment and that doing things like this will
cause harm. Not to mention, all the ethical dilemmas that go along with it. Scott Deeter has come back
with a plan for every argument the critics have thrown at him, but that still is not enough. No matter
what he says, or does, people will still not support his plan to do this. This situation is very similar to

showing people their plan on a full screen, while they continue to do what they have already sought to
do. There are many different ways that this can be handled, but it all comes down to Ventria following
through with what they have been working so hard to do, as long as they have the approval from the

The Effect Of Substrate Concentration On The Activity Of The Enzyme Catalase
A Level Biology Project
Aims
This is an experiment to examine how the concentration of the substrate hydrogen peroxide affects the
rate of reaction of the enzyme catalase.
Background Information
Enzymes such as Catalase are protein molecules which are found in living cells. They are used to
speed up specific reactions in the cells. They are all very specific as each enzyme just performs one
particular reaction.
Catalase is an enzyme found in food such as potato and liver. It is used for removing Hydrogen
Peroxide from the cells. Hydrogen Peroxide is the poisonous by product of metabolism. Catalase
speeds up the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide into water ... Show more content on

To ensure this is a fair test all the variables except for the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide must be
kept the same for all the experiments. Variables that must not be altered include:
Temperature, yeast concentration, type of yeast, batch of yeast, volume of yeast, volume of hydrogen
peroxide, air pressure and humidity.
When measuring the volumes of Hydrogen Peroxide, Yeast and Water the measurement should be
taken by looking at the scale at an angle of 90 degrees to it to avoid any parallax error.
Predictions
I predict that as the substrate concentration increases, the rate of reaction will go up at a directly
proportional rate until the solution becomes saturated with the substrate hydrogen peroxide. When this
saturation point is reached, then adding extra substrate will make no difference.
The rate steadily increases when more substrate is added because more of the active sites of the
enzyme are being used which results in more reactions so the required amount of oxygen is made
more quickly. Once the amount of substrate molecules added exceeds the number of active sites
available then the rate of reaction will no longer go up. This is because the maximum number of
reactions are being done at once so any extra substrate molecules have to wait until some of the active
sites

Apush Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The British Atlantic World, 1660 1750
In June 1744, the Iroquois and representatives from Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania met in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania to resolve conflicts and negotiate on agreements. These meetings were called
the Covenant Chain.
At Lancaster, British colonists forced the Iroquois to agree to land agreements, and they also forced
the Iroquois to assist them in a war against the French, to which the Iroquois, like Onondaga orator
Canassatego, were forced to say yes.
Similar to the French and Spanish colonies, the British allied with Native Americans to gain power in
North America. Meanwhile, many Native American groups grouped together in what the British called
tribes in order to counter population decline and have some political power. The colonies were mostly
autonomous and part of the South Atlantic System, which brought them economic growth.
Colonies to Empire, 1660 1713
England governed its colonies loosely before 1660, but after 1660, when the monarch was brought
back, England tried to reinforce order in the colonies and allied with Native Americans to fight against
other European countries.
The Restoration Colonies and Imperial Expansion
Charles II (reigned 1660 1685) helped to grow English power in the Americas and Asia through
marriages, alliances, and land grants, essentially taking over land that other nations had once owned.

Li, S., Blatchley, B., College, A.S. (2014). Examining the Effect of Peppermint on Cognitive
Functioning. Psi Chi, The International Honor Society In Psychology, 19 (3), 88 97.
This study speaks about whether or not an alerting odor, such as peppermint, can affect attention and
working memory. Research has been completed previously on the influences of odorants on cognitive
functioning, physiology, behavior, and mood. From earlier research, it was resulted that a person s
atmosphere was affected in either a positive or negative way; depending on the type of smell they
inhaled. If a participant smelled an unpleasant smell, it was determined that the person would have a
negative change in their mood; when the participant would inhale a positive smell, their mood would
change positively.
The study consisted of fifty, female, undergraduate college students. The ethnicities that were use for
this study were African American, European, Asian, Hispanic, biracial, and a very slight percentage
was categorized as other. The experiment would begin at 5:00pm everyday, for four weeks. One of the
three groups was administered each day. The three groups were either peppermint, expectation, or
control. Each participant was seated down, given an instruction sheet, a laptop, and was not able to see
the other participants from their view. The participants were told to put a facemask on and leave it on

Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream is An Elizabethan...
An Elizabethan Era Play with a Greek Twist William Shakespeare wrote the play, A Midsummer Night
s Dream, sometime in the 1590 s. The play, a romantic comedy, portrays the adventures of four young
lovers, an amateur actor s group, their interactions with a Duke and Duchess, and with fairies in a
moonlit forest. Although Shakespeare used certain themes in this play to portray Greek aspects, the
reflection of Elizabethan England is dominant in several different ways. Shakespeare s use of fairies,
the way women are treated, and the use of a class system in this play are all perfect examples of how
very Elizabethan this beloved tale actually is. The Elizabethan era was approximately 1558 1603.
During this period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare infuses his own ideals into his fairy characters in order to make them a bit more
Shakespearean. He keeps the Elizabethan ideals of beauty and nature, and makes his fairies small and
with wings. Shakespeare?s use of fairies in his play proved to be a popular move amongst not only
those in Elizabethan England, but readers since. In Shakespeare?s play, numerous examples were
given as to how the women are treated like second class citizens. Those examples are concurrent with
the Elizabethan time period pertaining to the rules of dating and marriage, respect for elders, and
obedience to figures of authority. Children were the property of their parents, and gave them the
respect that a servant might give to his master. This was a time when male domination was the norm.
In this patriarchal society, women had very little, if any, choice in whom their husbands were to be. In
order for families to benefit, marriages were arranged. Shakespeare demonstrates this in the
relationships between the dominant Theseus, Egeus, and Oberon and the characters they attempt to
control. Egeus demands that his daughter, Hermia, must either marry Demetrius or answer to Athenian
law. Theseus orders that if Hermia does not marry his son, she will face death or be sent to a nunnery.
Oberon, the king of fairies, after arguing with his Titania over an Indian boy, decides that he will
disregard her wants and attempt to control her without

abortion. Is abortion murder or not? When does a fetus become a human? There are no answers to

Abortions have been performed throughout many of centuries. Recently, there has been a number of
court cases that has changed the legality of abortions, especially in the United States, for example Roe

Early Catholics didn?t believe that the soul entered the fetus until later, 40 days for boys and 90 days
for girls. Only in 1869 did the Catholic Church declare that the soul entered the fetus at conception,
therefore rendering abortion murder. Until the second half of the nineteenth century, the English
Common Law was that abortions were permitted until the quickening, that is until the baby started
moving. After that, with the new advances in the medicine field we came to understand more what
happens to a woman?s body during pregnancy and abortions. The abortion laws were made to protect
the women from uncertified abortionists. There is one remarkable legal battle that changed the
American abortion laws to what they are now, Roe v. Wade. It took place in 1973 in Texas. Roe,
Norma McCorvey, was an anonymous plaintiff against the State. The ruling, abortion is legal. It gives
the mother the right of whether or not to terminated her pregnancy. However, that does not give the
woman the right to terminate her pregnancy for any reason during all nine months. ?The court said
that the woman may have an abortion until fetal viability, the time at which it first becomes
realistically possible for a fetus to live outside the woman?s body. At that point the state?s interest

are four forms of smallpox caused by Variola major: ordinary, modified, flat, and hemorrhagic (Ryan

modified form is one where the symptoms are less severe, usually due to vaccination. Flat smallpox is
a form where the pustules are almost always flush with the skin. These cases are highly fatal. The
hemorrhagic form causes bleeding under the skin, creating a black color. The victim usually dies
before pustules can form. Variola minor causes a fairly mild form of smallpox called alastrim, which
is rarely fatal. There is no cure for smallpox available, though antiviral drugs are being actively
developed by the various research institutions, including the National Institutes of Health. If the
individual is exposed to smallpox and has not developed symptoms, the vaccine may be administered

Johnathan Edwards Eucharist
The article Johnathan Edwards and the Closing of the Table is based upon Edwards view of the
practice of the Eucharist (Holy Communion). Crisp argues within hist article that Johnathan Edwards
beliefs should be studied and offer a challenge to contemporary theologians to think about these
matters more organically (Crisp, 49). Crisp gives an analysis of Johnathan Edwards beliefs on
communion, the process, and the requirements to obtain communion. He states that Edwards believed
that there had to be a confession of faith included with the communion service, and that only when
they gave an outward piece of evidence that they were converted from their sins that they should and
could obtain communion (Crisp, 55).
He explains the Johnathan Edwards view of the sacrament was in fact based on his personal
experiences and shifted through time. He argues with Edwards that the person who does not believe in
God should not be allowed to attend the Lord s Supper (Crisp, 63). Yet, Edward s also believed that a
person should live a pious life pleasing to God (Crisp, 57).
Crisp tends to agree with Edwards and ends his essay urging the reader to reconsider their views on

Protecting Ip And The Ethical Issues Related
In a world where innovation, technology, and the digital age is moving at such a rapid rate, Intellectual
Property (IP) becomes a hot button across business, law and ethics. In like manner, the complications
with protecting and managing IP increases. The demand on IP policy has grown from the need to
protect a simple invention, such as a light bulb, to the need to protect an idea, a slogan, or even a gene
(i.e. biotech). To further complicate things, IP protections are no longer just in the interest of
preserving a trade secret; it is now focused on monetary gains, economic strength and a means for
businesses to compete. One can only imagine how complex the issues can become when focused on so
many issues. This paper will discuss why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By striking the right balance between the interests of innovators and the wider public interest, the IP
system aims to foster an environment in which creativity and innovation can flourish. Therefore, IP is
a critical piece of our country s economic development, social and cultural welfare. Enforcement of
these protections are relied upon in many industries, scientists and not to mention, many artists. It
helps to foster competition, betterment, creativity and innovation. In addition, the American consumer
benefits as IP ensures they are purchasing products that are safe and effective. Given these points,
there is no doubt that IP rights must be protected in order for the U.S. to continue to be productive.
One key reason protecting IP is important is its impact on the U.S. job market. IP industries put forty
million Americans to work and it is expected that as technology continues to advance, those industries
will continue to grow and do so rapidly. This is expected to happen not just in the U.S., but globally.
In addition, IP intensive positions tend to pay higher salaries averaging about $50,576 per employee in

The Ku Klux Klan Essay
The Ku Klux Klan A cult is a type of religious organization that stands apart from the larger society.
These groups often have a charismatic leader and they create their own radical beliefs. A cult that is
very widespread in the United States and claims to be largely apparent throughout the world is the Ku
Klux Klan or the KKK .
The Ku Klux Klan is a cult that claims to be promoters of white Christian civilization. The original Ku
Klux Klan was organized to oppose the Reconstruction policies of the radical Republican Congress
and to maintain white supremacy. After the Civil War, when local government in ... Show more

Its power in the Midwest was broken during the late 1920s when David C. Stephenson, a major Klan
leader, was convicted of second degree murder. Evidence of corruption also surfaced led to the
indictment of the governor of Indiana and the mayor of Indianapolis, both supporters of the Klan. The
Klan often took illegal measures, especially against those whom it considered its enemies. At its peak
in the mid 1920s its membership was estimated at 4 million to 5 million. Although the actual figures
were probably much smaller, the Klan then declined to an estimated 30,000 by 1930.
After World War II, Dr. Samuel Green of Georgia attempted to revive the Klan, but failed. Southern
civil rights activities during the 1960s gave the Klan a new mission, which led to revivals of many
different Klan organizations. The most notable of these were Mississippi s White Knights of the Ku
Klux Klan, led by Robert Shelton. The newly revived Klan groups were responsible for violent attacks
against blacks and civil rights workers in cities throughout the South. In spite of its efforts, the new
Klan was not strong, and by the end of the decade its power and membership had declined to
practically nothing. Although a resurgence of support for the Klan was manifest in the surprising
popularity in the early 1990s of David Duke of Louisiana, actual membership in Klan organizations is
estimated to be in

The Report On The Amazon Basin
In the Amazon Basin, an amazing plant called Ayahuasca, which is an entheogenic brew made out of
Banisteriopsis caapi vine, and often in combination with various other plants. The word Ayahuasca ,
from the Quechua language, means vine of the souls . [1] For centuries, Amazonian shamans have
used Ayahuasca as a window into the soul. The main reason it can change human brain and
consciousness is that the plant contains a substance called DMT. N,N dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is an
illegal, psychedelic tryptamine compound found in the human body and at least 60 species of plants
worldwide. [2] Rick Strassman described it as the first endogenous human psychedelic in his book
DMT: The Spirit Molecule. [3] And in an interview in 2011, he said ... Show more content on

McKenna (who, more than anyone, Dr. Strassman wrote in 2000, has raised awareness of DMT,
through lectures, books, interviews, and recordings, to its present unprecedented level ) [3] called
DMT the most powerful hallucinogen known to man and science and the commonest hallucinogen in
all of nature in his 1994 lecture Rap Dancing Into the Third Millennium. [6] McKenna wondered why
theology had not enshrined DMT as its central exhibit for the presence of the other in the human
world, and said in an interview in The Archaic Revival (1992): It was really the DMT that empowered
my commitment to the psychedelic experience. DMT was so much more powerful, so much more
alien, raising all kinds of issues about what is reality, what is language, what is the self, what is three
dimensional space and time. [5] Besides, Stephen Szara had also reported hallucinations of strange
creatures in his article Dimethyltryptamine Experiments with Psychotics. He described how one of his
subjects under the influence of DMT had experienced strange creatures, dwarves or something at the
beginning of a DMT trip. [7][8] Other researchers of the experience described entities or beings in
humanoid as well as animal form, with descriptions of little people being common. This form of
hallucination has been speculated to be the cause of alien abduction experiences through
endogenously occurring DMT. [9]
From the review of Dr. Strassman s research from 1955 to 2010, it says that

  • 2. Argumentative Essay Zoos Do zoos benefit and improve the lives of animals, or are they catastrophic and disastrous to all these creatures? This has been a huge debate ever since zoos have been created. Numerous people believe they are horrid and an issue to animals. In reality, zoos benefit and improve the lives of these animals for a great amount of reasons. To illustrate, zoos promote animal conservation. Most animals that have lived in a zoo never experienced the wild. According to the Conversation, it implies, Everyone believes the wild is a safer habitat than in zoos, despite drastic threats of climate change, increased poaching, and destruction of animal s habitats for palm oil. Other examples of how zoos promote animal conservation are how after ten years of hard work to support and strengthen the amount of endangered California condors, a type of vulture, the Los Angeles and San Diego zoos have increased the population from about two dozen to about 170 birds (Are Zoos Good or Bad for Animals?). In addition, there are 232 accredited zoos with Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA s), which helps endangered species to maintain healthy populations of animals that are genetically diverse and stable so they don t overpopulate and endanger other species (How do Zoos ... • 3. Essay about Role Reversal in King Lear Role Reversal in King Lear King Lear, known as one of Shakespeare s greatest tragedies, deeply affects its audience by playing out the destruction of two families. At the end of this play two of the protagonists, King Lear and his loyal friend the Earl of Gloucester, die after having suffered through major injustices at the hands of their own children. These characters deaths are incredibly tragic because they are brought on by their own actions instead of by the circumstances that surround them. Lear and Gloucester are not bad men but rather good men that make the fatal mistake of not acting according to their positions in life. In doing so, they ultimately force their children, Cordelia and Edgar respectively, to take on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1985 production of this play starring Lawrence Olivier, Lear enters the opening scene lovingly arm in arm with Cordelia. He then sits on his throne and has a large map of his kingdom spread out on the floor before him. When he utters the words in 1.1.155, he unceremoniously throws his crown onto the ground in the middle of the map. I thought this was excellent stage direction because in this one movement he sets the tone for the problems that will come as a result of his unthinking action. Much like Lear, Gloucester opens the play by shunning his role that of a father. He embarrasses his illegitimate son, Edmund, when he says to Kent I have so often blushed to acknowledge him that now I am brazed to t (1.1.10 11). He then goes on to minimize his affection for his legitimate son, Edgar, by saying that he . . . is no dearer in my account (1.1.20 21). A father has two choices regarding a child conceived through an affair; he can either deny the child s existence or accept the child into his family as one of his own. Gloucester lamely attempts both with Edmund. In addition, his comment about Edgar send a mixed message regarding the son he considers his heir. In the Olivier version of this play, the stage direction has Edmund standing nearby while Gloucester converses with Kent. When Gloucester speaks the words in 1.1.10 11, he throws his arm around Edmund s shoulder and laughingly taps him on the chest. The stage direction here works well because the ... An infection from this bacterium, if not treated soon, can cause serious illness or even death within hours of contracting the infection¹. Vibrio cholerae infects the large intestine, causing extreme cases of diarrhea in which an individual has the potential to die within hours of developing symptoms due to dehydration. Symptoms of the disease include rapid heart rate, hypotension, and dry mucous membranes². The cholera virus infects mainly humans, but rare cases were also found in other mammals, such as dogs and bison. The bacterium that causes cholera is mainly found in places where a main source for drinking water is contaminated with fecal matter³. Cholera is estimated to affect about 3 through 5 million people annually, and it causes 100,000 120,000 deaths each year as well. Symptoms for cholera typically begin to show up within 2 3 days but cases have been reported where it took upwards of 5 days for individuals to begin to feel symptoms of the disease². Cholera is reported to have originated in Russia, and then spread through means of travel and trade to other countries, including North America. • 7. Thomas And Two Different Jesus Joel Brizzee 10/17/14 REL 321/ Shoemaker Luke, Thomas and Two Different Jesus The juxtaposition of any two writings is a formidable task. The content of each, even if they seem alike, is a small part in determining similarities and differences. One must also look at the styles, authors, themes, supposed audiences and authorial intent. This front becomes even more difficult while exegeting and deciphering ancient texts because of how far removed the writings are from modern understanding and scholarship. It is also further complicated when one lacks the factual knowledge of which piece was written first and/or if both texts were using a third source at the time of their creation. These difficulties find their apex at the study of Christian history and all of its subsequent writings. In particular, the gospels according to Thomas and Luke, while they have similarities and at times identical phraseology are vastly different when one considers their theological understandings, themes, format and style. Firstly, format and style will be considered. This is one of the biggest differences between the two gospels. The format of Luke s gospel and Thomas are clearly different. Luke, as much as it is technically a narrative, has elements which can be argued that it is an epistle as well. For example, in his opening verses, Luke is addressing this letter to Theophilus. Not only is this different than Thomas , which lacks this style, but also unique to Luke as a gospel itself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The people affected by lupus vary depending on the country or region. In the US alone, the prevalence rate is highest among Asians of Hawaii, blacks of Caribbean origin, and Native Americans of the Sioux, Arapahoe, and Crow tribes. Lupus is a disease that affects the immune system. We can think of the immune system as an army within the body with hundreds of defenders (known as antibodies). They defend the body from attack by germs and viruses. In lupus, however, the immune system becomes overactive and creates antibodies that attack healthy tissues in the body, such as: the skin, kidneys, lungs, heart and brain. ... These include genetic defects, hormonal factors, medications, some infections, exposure to ultraviolet B light, and chemical exposure. Some of the infections that are suspected triggers are the Epstein Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, parvovirus, and hepatitis C. Some known chemical exposures include trichloroethylene found in well water and silica dust. The most common symptoms are fatigue, rashes, or joint pain. Other symptoms that might develop are skin problems, sensitivity to light, neuropsychiatric problems, fever, changes in weight, hair loss, and/or swollen glands. Some specific skin problems are skin rashes, i.e., the facial butterfly rash. Raynaud s phenomenon is often common, affecting the fingers, toes, ears, or tip of the nose. Lukacs gives a very precise account of the actualy events during those eighty days but in my opinion he wants the reader to grab the bigger concepts. One of these concepts is that Lukacs wants the reader to honestly consider just how close the Allies came to losing the war. Another of these notions is the idea that the main difference between Churchill and Hitler concerned nationalism versus patriotism and a third idea is just how greatly history can be effected by the courageous decisions of a few people.Lukacs makes strong mention of how close Hitler came to victory. Lukacs wants the reader to raise these questions to themselves so they can see how unique this entire situation was. The idea that the entire course of history is changed by the decisions of a few people is a very important notion in the book. The hesitance of Hitler in early July is especially important and vital to the outcome of the war. Lukacs depicts the two men differently then one would expect. In this evaluation, Hitler does not want to attack Britain. He wants them to simply make peace, of course on his terms. He was not sure if England would go for this, and if they did not, he knew that the time had come to force them to do so. He could not shake Churchill, no matter how many other leaders crumbled. The Effect Of Substrate Concentration On The Activity Of The Enzyme Catalase A Level Biology Project Aims This is an experiment to examine how the concentration of the substrate hydrogen peroxide affects the rate of reaction of the enzyme catalase. Background Information Enzymes such as Catalase are protein molecules which are found in living cells. They are used to speed up specific reactions in the cells. They are all very specific as each enzyme just performs one particular reaction. Catalase is an enzyme found in food such as potato and liver. It is used for removing Hydrogen Peroxide from the cells. Hydrogen Peroxide is the poisonous by product of metabolism. Catalase speeds up the decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide into water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To ensure this is a fair test all the variables except for the concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide must be kept the same for all the experiments. Variables that must not be altered include: Temperature, yeast concentration, type of yeast, batch of yeast, volume of yeast, volume of hydrogen peroxide, air pressure and humidity. When measuring the volumes of Hydrogen Peroxide, Yeast and Water the measurement should be taken by looking at the scale at an angle of 90 degrees to it to avoid any parallax error. Predictions I predict that as the substrate concentration increases, the rate of reaction will go up at a directly proportional rate until the solution becomes saturated with the substrate hydrogen peroxide. When this saturation point is reached, then adding extra substrate will make no difference. The rate steadily increases when more substrate is added because more of the active sites of the enzyme are being used which results in more reactions so the required amount of oxygen is made more quickly. Once the amount of substrate molecules added exceeds the number of active sites available then the rate of reaction will no longer go up. Apush Chapter 3 Chapter 3: The British Atlantic World, 1660 1750 In June 1744, the Iroquois and representatives from Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania met in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to resolve conflicts and negotiate on agreements. These meetings were called the Covenant Chain. At Lancaster, British colonists forced the Iroquois to agree to land agreements, and they also forced the Iroquois to assist them in a war against the French, to which the Iroquois, like Onondaga orator Canassatego, were forced to say yes. Similar to the French and Spanish colonies, the British allied with Native Americans to gain power in North America. Meanwhile, many Native American groups grouped together in what the British called tribes in order to counter population decline and have some political power. The colonies were mostly autonomous and part of the South Atlantic System, which brought them economic growth. Colonies to Empire, 1660 1713 England governed its colonies loosely before 1660, but after 1660, when the monarch was brought back, England tried to reinforce order in the colonies and allied with Native Americans to fight against other European countries. The Restoration Colonies and Imperial Expansion Charles II (reigned 1660 1685) helped to grow English power in the Americas and Asia through marriages, alliances, and land grants, essentially taking over land that other nations had once owned. • 25. Shakespeare s Midsummer Night s Dream is An Elizabethan... An Elizabethan Era Play with a Greek Twist William Shakespeare wrote the play, A Midsummer Night s Dream, sometime in the 1590 s. The play, a romantic comedy, portrays the adventures of four young lovers, an amateur actor s group, their interactions with a Duke and Duchess, and with fairies in a moonlit forest. Although Shakespeare used certain themes in this play to portray Greek aspects, the reflection of Elizabethan England is dominant in several different ways. Shakespeare s use of fairies, the way women are treated, and the use of a class system in this play are all perfect examples of how very Elizabethan this beloved tale actually is. Shakespeare infuses his own ideals into his fairy characters in order to make them a bit more Shakespearean. He keeps the Elizabethan ideals of beauty and nature, and makes his fairies small and with wings. Shakespeare?s use of fairies in his play proved to be a popular move amongst not only those in Elizabethan England, but readers since. In Shakespeare?s play, numerous examples were given as to how the women are treated like second class citizens. Those examples are concurrent with the Elizabethan time period pertaining to the rules of dating and marriage, respect for elders, and obedience to figures of authority. Children were the property of their parents, and gave them the respect that a servant might give to his master. This was a time when male domination was the norm. In this patriarchal society, women had very little, if any, choice in whom their husbands were to be. In order for families to benefit, marriages were arranged. Shakespeare demonstrates this in the relationships between the dominant Theseus, Egeus, and Oberon and the characters they attempt to control. Egeus demands that his daughter, Hermia, must either marry Demetrius or answer to Athenian law. Theseus orders that if Hermia does not marry his son, she will face death or be sent to a nunnery.
