Essay on Finding Meaning in For Color Girls
...And this is for colored girls who have considered suicide but are moving to the end of their own
rainbow... (Perry: For Colored Girls, 2010). For colored girls was first written and performed as a play
by Ntozake Shange in 1977. It was then called for colored girls who have considered suicide when the
rainbow was enuf . Tyler Perry adapted and transformed it into a movie in 2010. For colored girls is
centered on nine women as they encounter their fair share of neglect, abuse, pain and harassment both
physically and emotionally. They slowly but surely recover from such abuse and discover joy in
themselves. The movie begins with the characters as strangers but at the end, they become good
friends. I watched this movie because it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When one first watches the movie, one may quickly judge that the characters are in direct contrast to
the colors they represent. In the movie, Tangie (orange) which means vitality with endurance plays the
part of a promiscuous girl whose hatred for her mother drives her to do what she does. On further look
at her character, I realize she is a true reflection of the color orange. She endures sexual abuse from
her grandfather and faces abortion at a tender age but is still strong enough to overcome it and bring
out her true beauty. The text also employ poems and songs to show the intensity of pain and
emphasize the strength of each character and women in general. Characterization is how the characters
in the text are viewed and developed as the text expands. For this, I will consider the character, Nyla
(purple). Nyla is an innocent girl with dull eyes and voice. Her innocence is revealed as tells of her
first time sex encounter and also in her lack of understanding of her mum and sister s relationship. Her
confession of sex to an older man is like that of a young misled child. She is ignorant of the world and
its dangers. She just completed high school and is very excited, happy to lose her virginity to
childhood sweetheart. Reality drowns on her when she finds out she is pregnant and needed to abort.
Her innocence gives her away when she tries to

Summary Of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button
Set apart from the parameters of normal human society, Benjamin Button, a man who was born to age
backwards, falls in love with a young girl, Daisy, who ages forwards. Benjamin s story is read aloud to
Daisy by Caroline, her daughter, as she lay on her deathbed. In scenes set with peculiar curiosity and
subtle fantasy, Benjamin embarks on an unusual journey to grasp the meaning of life and find his own
sense of identity. Benjamin and Daisy s paths cross many times before their unorthodox romance
reaches fate and picks up in the middle. As he grows younger and Daisy slows with age, Benjamin
discovers the rich futility of love as time causes the two to fall out of sync once again. Although its
final plot ends like any other love story, David Fincher s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is
arguably the next great cinematic breakthrough with its unique emotional paradoxes, ingenuitive
digital effects, and complex subplots. This movie was challenging to evaluate because never before
has a film combined subplot ingenuity so seamlessly with the delicate techniques of innovative film
making and traditional cinematic endings. One of the most relevant criteria of the film is the presence
of unique emotional paradoxes. The lead character Benjamin Button, actor Brad Pitt, faces many
unique emotional obstacles as he ages completely opposite of the world around him. When he is a
young boy, Button takes on the appearance of an eighty year old man in a wheelchair unable to walk.

An Investigation into Primary School Physical Education
This report will provide a concise investigation into the developmental stages of physical education.
Whilst this assignment will provide an overview of the subject in primary schools at present, it will
also go on to investigate into the issue of teaching on a practical basis and also look at how physical
education can develop a child. Using the information gathered from primary and secondary research,
which was conducted whilst attending a primary school as a six week work placement, the latter
stages will provide some critique and offer some recommendations to how physical education can be

The government has a major role, and although it is not an intention to delve into the government s
involvement in physical education, it is necessary to mention their ambitions to constantly improve
both the teaching and learning of physical education. This ambition can be represented through the
numerous teaching schemes, courses and initiatives that have also been made available by
organisations such the Physical Education Association (PEA) as reported latter on in the assignment.

Examples Of Revenge Tragedy In Hamlet
A lot of Shakespeare s plays allude to revenge and revenge tragedy. Revenge tragedy is seeking
revenge for wrongdoings done against someone in a literary work. Usually, the person seeking this
revenge is the protagonist and the plot is usually developed throughout their journey to get their
rightful revenge. Revenge tragedy is also the central conflict within a literary work. In the play,
Hamlet,Young Fortinbras, and Laertes are all examples of revenge tragedy. Hamlet ironically isn t a
person that shows to have the desire of seeking revenge and this is ironic because most of the time the
protagonist of a revenge tragedy work desires revenge. Revenge tragedy often sees that the revenger s

Hamlet refrained from killing his own mother, thereby demonstrating Shakespeare s greater respect
for the rules of manner proper to Persons . (Grazia 2003) This philosophical criticism used provides an
understanding to the meaning of the work because it clearly displays the stance Shakespeare had when
it came to philosophy and morals and this could be seen throughout Hamlet as well. Shakespeare is
more able to get his meaning and message of his literary work Hamlet over to the readers by
describing their psyche and their subconscious thoughts, as seen with Hamlet several times.
Psychoanalytic criticism is the idea that literary text express the private unconscious desires of the
author as well as their inner psyche or persona. Shakespeare constructs Hamlet to be a very
psychoanalytic character. The literary text of Hamlet s thoughts tie to his desires and grievances. In the
work, Hamlet tells his father that he will fulfill his father s wishes and get revenge on Claudius, his
uncle. This brings upon the idea of Paternity(his father s wishes) against law as well as religion. The
destress that Shakespeare painted Hamlet to be in(or the literary text) may describe why there was so
much friction between Hamlet following up on his father s wishes. Psychoanalysis is a way to
describe one s subconscious state of mind. Hamlet s fervid, divinizing praise of his

Artificial Intelligence Concerns
Concerns on Artificial Intelligence Artificial intelligence is still an infant compared to other
technologies. It brings about great promises for our future and some even predict that its importance
will rival that of the printing press. (Boden) By human nature, many tried to play God: People of all
generation and all over the world dreamt of creating a being that is capable of carrying out human
actions. A few decades ago, many regarded cloning as ludicrous and simply ignored it. However, we
have accomplished it, and who knows what advancement is coming. Artificial intelligence, although
nascent, is very popular and as Ray Kurtzweil suggests might be possible within the next thirty year.

The development of artificial intelligence, therefore, will benefit many, bringing about the common
good. Artificial intelligence applications are numerous. Schools can buy interactive AI, which will
never be bored or angry, to teach. Businesses can also benefit by hiring workers who are never bored,
complain, or strike. However, there are many obvious ethical issues involved when dealing with
artificial intelligence. First and most apparent, is that if we allow artificial research to continue, many
workers, especially labor workers, will lose their jobs due directly to the development of artificial
intelligence. This is absolutely unfair for these workers. What are they going to do? How will they
support their families? Many will become homeless or turn to crime. The balance between the poor
and the rich will be tipped. There will be few who will enjoy this development, namely the business
owners, who have control of the AI and are independent of the lower class labor force. The rest will be
in destitute. As we know, if only a small portion of society does productive work, the economy will be
in chaos. According to Tom Shanks, a doctor for Applied Ethics at Markkula Center, when companies
move toward robotics, it is the company s responsibility to retrain employees who lost their jobs.

was not emotionally available. This is shown by his relationship with Angelica.

A Juvenile Justice Case
After carefully reviewed all the facts, evidences and interviews of those associated in John s case, as a
judge, I would handle the case in a non judicial way, require John to make restitution to the store in a
form of community service and order his parents to cooperate in the treatment program. In case of
John s parents are unwilling to cooperate in the treatment programs, under the Parens Patriae concept,
I would have to put him on probation in order to help deter John from committing crime in a future. In
this report I will explain the reasons why.
First, John is not considered delinquent because this was his first offense and based on his statements,
it seemed to me that John wasn t aware of the consequences that would follow his actions and
furthermore, John simply had a mindset that his action was normal and that his friends did it all the
time. This would place John under the Social Process Theories. The explanation of Social Process

involved in criminal or delinquent behaviors. John s behaviors were the result of bad influences and
that he has learned that stealing was acceptable as many of his friends did it.

Taking a Look at Bell Peppers
INTRODUCTION
Bell pepper is one of the most extensively grown vegetable crops in the world. Its production under
protected agriculture (greenhouse, plastic house, and screen house) with soilless substrates is
becoming popular in the horticultural arena worldwide and high quality yield is an essential
prerequisite for its economic success (Ahrar et al., 2009).
In some contemporary bell pepper production systems, water and nutrient are administered
concurrently which is referred to as fertigation and is predominantly facilitated by the use of the drip
irrigation mechanism (Bar Yosef, 1999). This practice offers numerous advantages over traditional
methods since the time and rate of fertilizer applied can be regulated precisely according to the plants
requirements. Furthermore, fertigation enables the application of the appropriate amount of N, P and
K at particular stages in the growing season. This facilitates in the improvement of fertilizer use
efficiency, decreased leaching and minimized environmental contamination (Singandhupe et al.,
2003.)
An ideal fertigation schedule is important for the proper management and production of bell pepper
grown under greenhouse soilless culture under drip fertigation system. This is so as fertigation
schedule involves the determination of frequency and quantity of application which greatly affects the
root zone environment and ultimately the production and quality of yield (Raviv et al, 2001).In
addition, optimal fertigation scheduling

Discrimination In To Kill A Mockingbird
INTERTEXTUAL STUDY
Compare the ways in which the authors of both texts explore the idea of racism
Racism has been a major problem in the world for hundreds of years and it has never been resolved
nor it will never be resolved.
Harper Lee s 1960 novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, and Joel Schumacher s 1996 film, A Time To Kill,
both share similarities in the way racism is explored throughout both texts.
Racial violence and discrimination are two major themes that are depicted within both texts, but the
most important theme overall is the acceptance between the two races which is shown in both texts.
To Kill A Mockingbird and A Time To Kill are two very similar texts that share the same plot and the
same meaning.
Both texts explore the idea if racism through the theme of racial violence.

Racial discrimination is the main type of discrimination throughout the novel when compared with
class or gender.
The primary example of discrimination in the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, is when Tom Robinson, a
black man is wrongly accused of rape and assault on Mayella, a white woman.
When in court with Attics, a white lawyer, defending Robinson, the blacks were to be seated on the
top level of the courtroom to show that they were not important and that their opinion doesn t matter.
Discrimination is also shown in the film, A Time To Kill, when, again, in the courtroom blacks were to
sit on the top level.
Not only is discrimination shown in the courtroom, but also in the town.
For example, the two races were living on different sides of the town, blacks were not allowed to
associate with whites let alone touch them or nearly look at them.
Lee and Schumacher provide evidence that shows discrimination as being a major theme used
throughout both texts.
Acceptance was an important theme shown in both

Substrate Concentration Lab Report
Our group performed the test of decreasing the substrate concentration in the catalyzed reaction
decomposing hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas. For our baseline, we set up a reaction
using 10 ml 3% hydrogen peroxide (the substrate) and 1 ml yeast (the catalyst). We then calculated the
reaction rate to be 0.09375 ml/sec of oxygen produced. This reading is based off of the initial part of
the curve, before the plateau. Once the rate decreases in the data too much peroxide has been used up
to retain a steady reaction rate, so it is not reliable data for use in calculating the true rate. At this point
we hypothesized that a lower rate would be observed for lesser concentration of substrate because
there would be fewer molecules and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An increase in temperature means that the molecules are moving much more quickly, so there are
more interactions between molecules. This increases probability of molecules colliding with the
correct orientation and with sufficient energy to cause a reaction. There are, however, factors working
against this hypothesis. Enzymes, which serve as catalysts, significantly increase the rate of a reaction
by lowering its activation energy. As temperature increases, catalysts can become denatured, where the
protein unfolds beyond repair. Denaturation yields the proteins useless, so that would be expected to
decrease the reaction rate. Denaturation also can take place if the proteins become too cold. The true
test in this experimentation is of whether the increase in temperature damages the catalysts. If the
catalysts remain intact and can still facilitate reactions, the reaction rate is most likely to increase or
decrease with an increase or decrease in temperature, respectively. As projected, the reaction with the
increased temperature did in fact proceed the fastest, meaning the most water vapor was collected
initially. When temperature decreased, the rate stayed mostly the same. Since we did not carry out this
experiment, we are forced to guess at the cause of this. One possible option is that the temperature was
not altered enough to effect catalyst or the

Culture In Honey Bee
Culture is something a person takes in with his first breath. It is an integral part of the society which is

Culture differs along with the geographical variations and across the timeline. For that precise reason,
we, around the globe has a hold on an assorted mixture of different cultures. Though greatly varied

Infant Observation Essay
Infants move through stages that allow them to make increasing varieties of sounds such as cooing,
babbling, laughing, and advanced babbling. Understanding infants sound production is very important
because use sounds to communicate. Language is taught as conversation. In order to be
developmentally appropriate for infants, the environment for infants, cognitive, language, and literacy
development the caregiver need to have specific ways to talk. The caregiver need to talk a lot to the
infants and use a wide vocabulary. When talking, give the infants choices and ask them about things.
Interaction with infants is the basis for cognitive development. Infants need to interact with objects
and people. Interacting with objects and people will help them explore and add on to their
understanding of the world. To encourage words in older infants give then experiences and objects to
label. When they point to objects they want, say the name of the object. Creating patterns and labeling

able move independently in the classroom. Including developmentally appropriate materials in the
classroom is important when nurturing cognitive development. In the first few months, infants need
materials for visual reaching. Their toys should be able to move, talk, make music, cuddle, and is

The Doctrine Of Free Trade
Historically, Republican Presidents have often been considered to be wholeheartedly dedicated to the
doctrine of free trade, with the common consensus being that Republican Presidents have championed
laissez faire foreign commerce since the end of the Second World War (Batra, 1996, p1).
Consequently the idea of protectionism under Republican governments has too often been reflexively
denounced by US trade analysts.
The purpose of this section is to explicate how even under supposedly neoliberal Republicans such as
Reagan, Bush JR and Nixon, domestic pressures have dictated that US Governments compromise their
commitment to free trade. Such domestic pressures essentially stem from industries that are relatively
uncompetitive; in that they tend to struggle to compete with foreign manufacturers and politically
sensitive; in that they have substantial voting power and representation in Congress. This juxtaposition
of a lack of competitiveness and political sensitivity has on a number of occasions proven to be
sufficient in forcing committed free traders into invoking protectionist policies.
The ultimate consequence of these pressures for both the Republicans and Obama has been defensive
protectionism , which as previously mentioned provides ad hoc import relief for specific industries on
a case by case basis. This section will thus tackle two key myths with regards to US trade politics:
firstly the notion that Obama s protectionism represents a new trade policy in the US

Modernism Poetry Analysis
Modernism is a movement that took place between the late 19th and early 20th centuries around the
idea that poetry and other works of art should break the normal structure and break tradition. Imagisim
is a movement that brought about modernism and was focused around the idea that poetry should have
a clear and descriptive language and should bring an image to the readers mind. In Archibald
MacLeish s poem, Ars Poetica he asserts that a poem carries meaning in itself and has just as much
meaning as the thing it describes. The poem is structured as a guide to how a poem should be written
and is divided into three stanzas describing different aspects of a poem. In the first stanza, MacLeish is
telling the reader to show and not to tell. A poem should be palpable and mute As a globed fruit Dumb
As old medallions to the thumb.(MacLeish 1 4)
In these first two couplets MacLeish is telling us that poetry should have a certain authenticity to it,
that rather than describing something it should paint a picture in the mind of the reader. He is saying
that when you describe something it is too specific and when you paint a picture in the readers mind
you use abstract ideas in order to allow them to fill in the blanks. MacLeish does this himself in these
two couplets with the lines ...As a globed fruit... and ...As old medallions to the thumb... (MacLeish 2
4). He uses word choice such as globed fruit to give the reader an idea as to what he means but not tell

themselves with obtaining employment that offers work satisfaction. Then again, a person may only

Behavioral Addictions; Where to Draw the Line?
The term addiction is a compulsive physiological need for and use of a habit forming substance based
on www.merriamwebster.com, and how it is used has been the subject of controversy for decade.
Whether we read it on the newspapers and magazines, heard about it on the radio, watched it on the
television, and talked about it on social media, they emphasize often addictions related to substance
used, for instance either drugs, alcohols, including prescription medicines and cigarettes. Evidently,
what we do not see as often on the headlines are behavioral addictions that we may be ignoring, pay

important fact: treatment saves lives. There is no uniform treatment for behavioral addictions; each

Hans Rudolf Giger s Influence On The World
Hans Rudolf Giger was a futurist from the modern era who expressed himself through visual arts.
Born and raised in 1940 Chur, Switzerland, his philosophies as well as visions were heavily
influenced by the social context of World War II. The subject of Giger s works was a direct response
to the struggle of power and heavy reliance on technological inventions. Many of his fears were
related to the influence of machinery and technology, rooting back to the influence the 18th century
during the Industrial Revolution. The apocalyptical visions of H.R. Giger began from the influence of

Giger were significant as he revolutionized the outlook in surrealism. His work was classified under
Magic Realism, however his contemporaries such as Ernst Fuchs were drastically different as the
trend were to create positive, fantasy artworks. Fuchs style utilizes vivid imagery of many colour
tones to communicate his thoughts. (Fig. 8) However, the two artists shared some similarities, as they
expressed their envisioned world through the use of life, death, and spiritual elements. The
comparison of the two is interesting as Ernst Fuch s artwork captures the positive outlook of life
through the use of heavy natural elements. H.R. Giger is on the opposite side of the spectrum, as he
uses natural elements to heighten our senses of fear. Giger harnesses our natural senses of fear through
the use of familiar imagery such as bones, representing death along with the gruesomeness of drooling
slime, demonstrated in Aliens (Fig. 9). To keep a realistic approach of an alien invasion in the observer
s minds, he implemented realistic themes of invasion and reproduction as a reinterpretation of the
activities humans act upon each other to survive. These concepts were clearly demonstrated in the face
hugger encounter scene as it began to invade the astronaut s body (Fig. 10). Along with the creation of
the alien, this scene was an excellent demonstration Giger s understanding of spatial composition
through the use of materiality and natural elements (Fig. 11). Along

Turnover is the amount of sales or revenues produced per dollar of assets. The Asset Turnover ratio is
a gauge of the productivity in which a company is using its assets. The number of times is calculated
by the net sales divided by the average assets. Usually, the higher the ratio, the better it is, since it
implies the company is generating more revenues per dollar of assets ( Investopedia , 2014). The asset

Improving Communication Over Shift Change And Improve...
Planned Change Change is a constant in health care. Leader managers must understand the
complexities of change. Marquis and Huston point out that there must be a good reason to implement
change (2015). The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how to implement planned change to improve
communication over shift change and improve communication with families within the emergency
room. Additionally, the people necessary for this change, along with the necessary steps will be
outlined. Problem A problem has been identified in our emergency room that important information is
not transferring from one shift to the next. This is not a unique to problem to our facility alone.
Additionally, patients and families do not understand what is happening during their visit to the
emergency room. In 2015, the Joint Commission set a national safety goal to improve the
effectiveness of caregivers communication. Change The specific change being proposed is to institute
bedside report. Bedside report would improve communication among caregivers and increase patients
and families understanding of their visit. During the bedside report, the off going nurse and the
oncoming nurse would double check intravenous fluids, intravenous sites, and the presence of safety
equipment and alarms. Bedside report and the two person safety check is essential for patient safety.

Romans took advantage of this weakness they would then Divide and conquer: buy off the Celtic

William Bridge s three step change model deals with change at a more granular, individual level,
suggesting that change within a health care organization means that individuals must transition from
one identity to a new identity when they are involved in a process of change (Campbell, 2008, p. 23).
According to Bridge, for change to take place, three transition periods must be experienced, including
endings, the neutral zone, and beginnings (Campbell, 2008). This model is appropriate for the current
changes made in our facility because it focuses on individuals and their ability to transition to change.
Change is something that happens to people, even if they do not agree with it. Transition, on the other
hand, is internal, it s what happens in people s minds as they go through change. Change can happen
very quickly while transition usually occurs more slowly (Mind Tools Editorial Team, n.d, p. 1).

Indigenous People In The 1500s
The indigenous have been mistreated by the Europeans since the 1500 s, from the cod fishing to the

most important concept in the The Outsiders was the concept of class conflict. Class conflict is the
conflict between two or more classes, in this case the Greasers and Socials, in a community. This
conflict was going on because the Socials, or Socs, were rich and lived on the West Side of town. On

Rhetorical Analysis Of Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
Could the North and South ever come together again and unite as one nation after the Civil War? The
purpose of Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address was to offer his promising predictions for
reconciliation with the South and his vision of the future. Lincoln utilizes strong and elevated diction
to clearly articulate his vision for the future, with choices like dreaded and sought . Furthermore,
Lincoln s optimistic tone offers a beacon of hope, with examples like, achieve and cherish a just and
lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations, and to bind up the nation s wounds . The purpose
of the address is achieved through parallelism and appeal to religion, too. Lincoln s diction, one of his
most powerful literary devices, is employed prominently throughout the entire passage.
Lincoln s elevated diction is used so he can communicate his thoughts openly and plainly. For
instance, he says all dreaded and sought to avoid the Civil War. This establishes the war as a terrible
evil but not the Confederacy. His word choice helps humanize the Confederacy, the Union s enemy.
The black population is addressed as colored slaves in order to appeal to the South and their deep
pride in slavery. Simultaneously, to appeal to the North who despised slavery, he says the black
population was part of the whole population . The purpose of Lincoln s diction here is to attempt to
bring the Union and the Confederacy together as it appeases to both side s beliefs. Also, Lincoln
chooses to say insurgents , which has a more neutral connotation behind it, instead of calling the
Confederacy the enemy or another derogatory term in order not to alienate the South. When the Civil
War ends, the two sides would have to reconcile, and they can t do that if Lincoln depicts the South as
the enemy.
Lincoln s optimistic tone attempts to persuade the audience into forgiving the South and making
peace. For instance, Lincoln says, to bind up the nation s wounds, , a bright and encouraging quote for
the country s future. By referring to the Union and Confederacy as a one entity, it depicts them as a
single united country. What Lincoln also suggests is that the Civil War is not fatal and that the

The Importance Of Indoor Air Pollution

Project
Indoor air quality at Stanwich is important for the health and comfort of teachers and students.
Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce health concerns. There are
many things that cause air pollution in our building including paint, heating system, cleaning sprays,
furniture and other materials. These pollutants can cause allergies, scratchy eyes, skin irritation and
headaches.
An approach to reducing air pollutants inside building is the use of plants and soil microorganisms.
Outside air quality depends on plants and microorganisms. Living in buildings away from plants even
without being exposed to chemicals, still exposes us to human waste products that cause indoor air
pollution problems.
What Causes of Indoor Air Problems
The primary cause of poor indoor air quality are sources that release gases or particles into the air.
Poor ventilation can increase indoor pollution by not bringing in enough outdoor fresh air into the
class that reduce the emissions from indoor pollution. Also, indoor air pollution is not carried out of
the class area. High classroom temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of
some pollutants.
Pollutant Sources
There are many sources of indoor air pollution. These can include:
Building materials and furnishings as diverse as:
Deteriorated asbestos containing insulation
Newly installed flooring, upholstery or carpet

No Love for Animals in Sea World
Charles Darwin once said, the love for all living creatures is the most noble attribute of man. If only
Darwin had been alive to witness the secrets of the well known marine mammal theme park known as
SeaWorld, he would have been as appalled as many have been discovering these hidden secrets. One
of the major issues with SeaWorld is animal captivity. It serves as a profitable way for people to see
and enjoy wild animals, but through the captivity it can transform harmless animals into violent,
agitated monsters in some cases. The defenseless animals, such as the killer whales at Seaworld, are
deprived of their family, lives and freedom, which can lead to exceptional aggression. Many people
that visit SeaWorld or know of the theme park believe that it is just a welcoming marina and a great
place to take family to see wild animals and the remarkable shows that the killer whales present.
Clearly many people do not realize the truth behind what SeaWorld is doing to these poor animals. For
starters, captive marine animals are robbed of most everything that is natural to them such as living in
a family pod and swimming up to a hundred miles each day. Obviously these necessities cannot be
met within the small enclosures where the killer whales live. Another less known fact about SeaWorld
is that it lowers animals life spans quite drastically. Orca whales live on an average of thirty to fifty

Siegel, tells a riveting story about three close inmates and their highly thought out escape plan. Frank
Morris, played by the famous Clint Eastwood, is transported to the most solid and uptight prison,
Alcatraz, in San Francisco, California. He is transferred from a prison in Atlanta, Georgia and booked
into Alcatraz on January 18, 1960. Upon his arrival, the prison warden informs Morris that no one has
ever escaped Alcatraz. He lets Morris know that many have tried to escape, but they were never
successful. As a warning to Morris, the warden states that no one will ever escape under his
supervision. Morris in turn uses this statement from the warden as his motivation to once again escape
from prison. Morris has previously escaped every prison he has been placed in, and this happens to be
the reason for his transfer to Alcatraz. Two other inmates, Clarence and John Anglin who are
biological brothers, assist in the notorious escape and manage to flee alongside Morris. Clarence and
John Anglin are played by the actors Frank Ward and Jack Thibeau. The brothers were not transported
to Alcatraz Island until months after Frank Morris had been transferred and booked. However, the
three friendmates were tight acquaintances in the Atlanta, Georgia prison. The movie and the
characters tell the true and unruly story of the escape from the most secure prison in the United States

True Love In Anne Bradstreet s To My Dear And Loving Husband
Anne Bradstreet s poem To My Dear and Loving Husband, the magnificent writer strongly uses
vocabulary, tone, figurative language and imagery to show that the only way true love can be repaid is
by that in heaven. In order to better understand the reasoning behind such writing, it would benefit to
know delicate information on the writer. Anne Bradstreet was born Anne Dudley in 1612 in
Northampton shire, England to a nonconformist former soldier of Queen Elizabeth, Thomas Dudley,
who managed the affairs of the Earl of Lincoln. Anne had been well tutored in literature and history in
Greek, Latin, French, Hebrew, as well as English. She married Simon Bradstreet, a graduate of
Cambridge University, at the age of 16. Two years later, Bradstreet, along with her husband and
parents, immigrated to America with the John Winthrop Puritan group, and the family settled in
Ipswich, Massachusetts. There Bradstreet and her husband raised eight children, and she became one
of the first poets to write English verse in the American colonies. It was during this time that
Bradstreet penned many of the poems that would be taken to England by her brother in law. (Stanford
397) The mother of 8 children and a dynamic speaker, Hutchinson held prayer meetings where women
debated religious and ethical ideas. Her belief that the Holy Spirit dwells within a justified person and
so is not based on the good works necessary for admission to the church was considered heretical.
Bradstreet was concerned with the issues of sin and redemption, physical and emotional frailty, death
and immortality. (Svendsen 64) Much of her work indicates that she had a difficult time resolving the
conflict she experienced between the pleasures of sensory and familial experience and the promises of
heaven. As a Puritan, she struggled to subdue her attachment to the world, but as a woman she
sometimes felt more strongly connected to her husband, children, and community than to God. (Reid
544) Simon Bradstreet s (Anne s husband) responsibilities as a magistrate of the colony frequently
took him away from home, and he was very much missed by his wife. Bradstreet s love poems make it
clear that she was deeply attached to her husband. Marriage was important

Kurth Lewin s
Introduction:
The purpose of this article is to criticize Kurt Lewin s model of change. I will shows how successful
change can be encouraged and facilitated for long term success. The article compares the
characteristics of Lewin s Three Step Change Theory. According to me Kurt Lewin s theory is agoal
and plan oriented because it only consider about change not peoples feeling and opinions. His theory
makes a complex sense. It is assumed that it takes decades to understand his theory. I will be
providing the evidence further in my critical analysis. This article also include other theories about
manage or overcome resistance to change in organization. The theories serve as testimony to the fact
the change is a real phenomenon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the cornerstone models for understanding organizational change was developed by Kurt Lewin
back in the 1950s, and still holds true today. His model is known as Unfreeze Change Refreeze, refers
to the three stage process of change he describes. Lewin, a physicist as well as social scientist,
explained organizational change using the analogy of changing the shape of a block of ice.
Understanding Lewin s Model
If you have a large cube of ice, but realize that what you want is a cone of ice, what do you do? First
you must melt the ice to make it amenable to change (unfreeze). Then you must mold the iced water
into the shape you want (change). Finally, you must solidify the new shape (refreeze).
Unfreeze Change Refreeze
By looking at change as process with distinct stages, you can prepare yourself for what is coming and
make a plan to manage the transition looking before you leap, so to speak. All too often, people go
into change blindly, causing much unnecessary turmoil and chaos.
To begin any successful change process, you must first start by understanding why the change must
take place. As Lewin put it, Motivation for change must be generated before change can occur. One
must be helped to re examine many cherished assumptions about oneself and one s relations to others.
This is the unfreezing stage from which change

Swot Analysis Of Dick s Sporting Goods Essay
Equity Analysis Dick s Sporting Goods has had reputable equitability consistently throughout the
years. Investors have been able to regularly earn a respectable return on their investments. However,
some of the valuation metrics of Dick s Sporting Goods are slightly troublesome. The price to
earnings ratio, which is one of the most commonly used gauge of valuing equity securities, has
decreased over the last 3 years and recently decreased 24% compared to the previous year, while their
earnings per share has increased every year with the exception of the current year where it decreased
minimally. This indicates that the market is lessening their expectations of the company. Another
commonly used measure is the price to cash flow which eliminates the manipulation that is possible
with net income that is used in the price to earnings ratio. This ratio also has decreased recently, thus
also indicating a lessening in expectations in the market. The company has had adequate profitability
over the previous years that have helped investors earn a pleasant return on their investments. The
basic earnings per share and the diluted earnings per share have both increased over the last four
years, but both decreased ever so slightly in the current year. This decrease in the earnings per share is
most likely due to the considerable decrease in net income for the current year. But Dick s Sporting
Goods has been managing their earnings per share through share buy backs which is

For colored girls was first written and performed as a play by Ntozake Shange in 1977. It was then called for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow was enuf . Tyler Perry adapted and transformed it into a movie in 2010. For colored girls is centered on nine women as they encounter their fair share of neglect, abuse, pain and harassment both physically and emotionally. They slowly but surely recover from such abuse and discover joy in themselves. The movie begins with the characters as strangers but at the end, they become good friends. I watched this movie because it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When one first watches the movie, one may quickly judge that the characters are in direct contrast to the colors they represent. In the movie, Tangie (orange) which means vitality with endurance plays the part of a promiscuous girl whose hatred for her mother drives her to do what she does. Nyla is an innocent girl with dull eyes and voice. Her innocence is revealed as tells of her first time sex encounter and also in her lack of understanding of her mum and sister s relationship. • 4. Summary Of The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Set apart from the parameters of normal human society, Benjamin Button, a man who was born to age backwards, falls in love with a young girl, Daisy, who ages forwards. Benjamin s story is read aloud to Daisy by Caroline, her daughter, as she lay on her deathbed. In scenes set with peculiar curiosity and subtle fantasy, Benjamin embarks on an unusual journey to grasp the meaning of life and find his own sense of identity. Benjamin and Daisy s paths cross many times before their unorthodox romance reaches fate and picks up in the middle. As he grows younger and Daisy slows with age, Benjamin discovers the rich futility of love as time causes the two to fall out of sync once again. Although its final plot ends like any other love story, David Fincher s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is arguably the next great cinematic breakthrough with its unique emotional paradoxes, ingenuitive digital effects, and complex subplots. This movie was challenging to evaluate because never before has a film combined subplot ingenuity so seamlessly with the delicate techniques of innovative film making and traditional cinematic endings. One of the most relevant criteria of the film is the presence of unique emotional paradoxes. • 13. Taking a Look at Bell Peppers INTRODUCTION Bell pepper is one of the most extensively grown vegetable crops in the world. Its production under protected agriculture (greenhouse, plastic house, and screen house) with soilless substrates is becoming popular in the horticultural arena worldwide and high quality yield is an essential prerequisite for its economic success (Ahrar et al., 2009). In some contemporary bell pepper production systems, water and nutrient are administered concurrently which is referred to as fertigation and is predominantly facilitated by the use of the drip irrigation mechanism (Bar Yosef, 1999). This practice offers numerous advantages over traditional methods since the time and rate of fertilizer applied can be regulated precisely according to the plants requirements. Furthermore, fertigation enables the application of the appropriate amount of N, P and K at particular stages in the growing season. This facilitates in the improvement of fertilizer use efficiency, decreased leaching and minimized environmental contamination (Singandhupe et al., 2003.) An ideal fertigation schedule is important for the proper management and production of bell pepper grown under greenhouse soilless culture under drip fertigation system. This is so as fertigation schedule involves the determination of frequency and quantity of application which greatly affects the root zone environment and ultimately the production and quality of yield (Raviv et al, 2001).In addition, optimal fertigation scheduling ... For our baseline, we set up a reaction using 10 ml 3% hydrogen peroxide (the substrate) and 1 ml yeast (the catalyst). We then calculated the reaction rate to be 0.09375 ml/sec of oxygen produced. This reading is based off of the initial part of the curve, before the plateau. Once the rate decreases in the data too much peroxide has been used up to retain a steady reaction rate, so it is not reliable data for use in calculating the true rate. At this point we hypothesized that a lower rate would be observed for lesser concentration of substrate because there would be fewer molecules and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An increase in temperature means that the molecules are moving much more quickly, so there are more interactions between molecules. This increases probability of molecules colliding with the correct orientation and with sufficient energy to cause a reaction. There are, however, factors working against this hypothesis. Enzymes, which serve as catalysts, significantly increase the rate of a reaction by lowering its activation energy. As temperature increases, catalysts can become denatured, where the protein unfolds beyond repair. Denaturation yields the proteins useless, so that would be expected to decrease the reaction rate. Denaturation also can take place if the proteins become too cold. The true test in this experimentation is of whether the increase in temperature damages the catalysts. If the catalysts remain intact and can still facilitate reactions, the reaction rate is most likely to increase or decrease with an increase or decrease in temperature, respectively. As projected, the reaction with the increased temperature did in fact proceed the fastest, meaning the most water vapor was collected initially. When temperature decreased, the rate stayed mostly the same. Since we did not carry out this experiment, we are forced to guess at the cause of this. One possible option is that the temperature was not altered enough to effect catalyst or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Doctrine Of Free Trade Historically, Republican Presidents have often been considered to be wholeheartedly dedicated to the doctrine of free trade, with the common consensus being that Republican Presidents have championed laissez faire foreign commerce since the end of the Second World War (Batra, 1996, p1). Consequently the idea of protectionism under Republican governments has too often been reflexively denounced by US trade analysts. The purpose of this section is to explicate how even under supposedly neoliberal Republicans such as Reagan, Bush JR and Nixon, domestic pressures have dictated that US Governments compromise their commitment to free trade. Such domestic pressures essentially stem from industries that are relatively uncompetitive; in that they tend to struggle to compete with foreign manufacturers and politically sensitive; in that they have substantial voting power and representation in Congress. This juxtaposition of a lack of competitiveness and political sensitivity has on a number of occasions proven to be sufficient in forcing committed free traders into invoking protectionist policies. The ultimate consequence of these pressures for both the Republicans and Obama has been defensive protectionism , which as previously mentioned provides ad hoc import relief for specific industries on a case by case basis. Modernism Poetry Analysis Modernism is a movement that took place between the late 19th and early 20th centuries around the idea that poetry and other works of art should break the normal structure and break tradition. Imagisim is a movement that brought about modernism and was focused around the idea that poetry should have a clear and descriptive language and should bring an image to the readers mind. In Archibald MacLeish s poem, Ars Poetica he asserts that a poem carries meaning in itself and has just as much meaning as the thing it describes. The poem is structured as a guide to how a poem should be written and is divided into three stanzas describing different aspects of a poem. In the first stanza, MacLeish is telling the reader to show and not to tell. A poem should be palpable and mute As a globed fruit Dumb As old medallions to the thumb.(MacLeish 1 4) In these first two couplets MacLeish is telling us that poetry should have a certain authenticity to it, that rather than describing something it should paint a picture in the mind of the reader. He is saying that when you describe something it is too specific and when you paint a picture in the readers mind you use abstract ideas in order to allow them to fill in the blanks. His work was classified under Magic Realism, however his contemporaries such as Ernst Fuchs were drastically different as the trend were to create positive, fantasy artworks. Fuchs style utilizes vivid imagery of many colour tones to communicate his thoughts. (Fig. 8) However, the two artists shared some similarities, as they expressed their envisioned world through the use of life, death, and spiritual elements. The comparison of the two is interesting as Ernst Fuch s artwork captures the positive outlook of life through the use of heavy natural elements. H.R. Giger is on the opposite side of the spectrum, as he uses natural elements to heighten our senses of fear. Giger harnesses our natural senses of fear through the use of familiar imagery such as bones, representing death along with the gruesomeness of drooling slime, demonstrated in Aliens (Fig. 9). To keep a realistic approach of an alien invasion in the observer s minds, he implemented realistic themes of invasion and reproduction as a reinterpretation of the activities humans act upon each other to survive. These concepts were clearly demonstrated in the face hugger encounter scene as it began to invade the astronaut s body (Fig. 10). Along with the creation of the alien, this scene was an excellent demonstration Giger s understanding of spatial composition through the use of materiality and natural elements (Fig. 11). Along ... • 38. Rhetorical Analysis Of Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Could the North and South ever come together again and unite as one nation after the Civil War? The purpose of Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address was to offer his promising predictions for reconciliation with the South and his vision of the future. Lincoln utilizes strong and elevated diction to clearly articulate his vision for the future, with choices like dreaded and sought . Furthermore, Lincoln s optimistic tone offers a beacon of hope, with examples like, achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations, and to bind up the nation s wounds . The purpose of the address is achieved through parallelism and appeal to religion, too. Lincoln s diction, one of his most powerful literary devices, is employed prominently throughout the entire passage. Lincoln s elevated diction is used so he can communicate his thoughts openly and plainly. For instance, he says all dreaded and sought to avoid the Civil War. This establishes the war as a terrible evil but not the Confederacy. His word choice helps humanize the Confederacy, the Union s enemy. The black population is addressed as colored slaves in order to appeal to the South and their deep pride in slavery. Simultaneously, to appeal to the North who despised slavery, he says the black population was part of the whole population . The purpose of Lincoln s diction here is to attempt to bring the Union and the Confederacy together as it appeases to both side s beliefs. Also, Lincoln chooses to say insurgents , which has a more neutral connotation behind it, instead of calling the Confederacy the enemy or another derogatory term in order not to alienate the South. When the Civil War ends, the two sides would have to reconcile, and they can t do that if Lincoln depicts the South as the enemy. Lincoln s optimistic tone attempts to persuade the audience into forgiving the South and making peace. For instance, Lincoln says, to bind up the nation s wounds, , a bright and encouraging quote for the country s future. Anne Bradstreet was born Anne Dudley in 1612 in Northampton shire, England to a nonconformist former soldier of Queen Elizabeth, Thomas Dudley, who managed the affairs of the Earl of Lincoln. Anne had been well tutored in literature and history in Greek, Latin, French, Hebrew, as well as English. She married Simon Bradstreet, a graduate of Cambridge University, at the age of 16. Two years later, Bradstreet, along with her husband and parents, immigrated to America with the John Winthrop Puritan group, and the family settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts. There Bradstreet and her husband raised eight children, and she became one of the first poets to write English verse in the American colonies. It was during this time that Bradstreet penned many of the poems that would be taken to England by her brother in law. (Stanford 397) The mother of 8 children and a dynamic speaker, Hutchinson held prayer meetings where women debated religious and ethical ideas. Her belief that the Holy Spirit dwells within a justified person and so is not based on the good works necessary for admission to the church was considered heretical. Bradstreet was concerned with the issues of sin and redemption, physical and emotional frailty, death and immortality. (Svendsen 64) Much of her work indicates that she had a difficult time resolving the conflict she experienced between the pleasures of sensory and familial experience and the promises of heaven. As a Puritan, she struggled to subdue her attachment to the world, but as a woman she sometimes felt more strongly connected to her husband, children, and community than to God. (Reid 544) Simon Bradstreet s (Anne s husband) responsibilities as a magistrate of the colony frequently took him away from home, and he was very much missed by his wife.
