Cry the Beloved Country Movie versus Film Essay
Cry, the Beloved Country is a moving story of the Zulu pastor Stephen Kumalo and his son Absalom.
They live in an Africa torn apart by racial tensions and hate. It is based on a work of love and hope,
courage, and endurance, and deals with the dignity of man. The author lived and died (1992) in South
Africa and was one of the greatest writers of that country. His other works include Too Late the
Phalarope, Ah, but Your Land Is Beautiful, and Tales from a Troubled Land.
The book was made into a movie starring James Earl Jones and Richard Harris. The book takes you to
South Africa, where the land itself is the essence of a man. It as if the mountains, soaring high above
the clouds, are the high moments in life, and the valleys are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At times, sections of dialogue are lifted directly from the books pages. More importantly, however,
Paton s themes are brought home with devastating, deep impact through a production that captures the
book s essence as close as it recounts the narrative. There isn t a false note in Cry, The Beloved
Country. Every scene in the film is perfectly executed with great composition.
Cry, The Beloved Country is the first movie about racial relations in South Africa I personally have
seen which trusts the viewer s intelligence enough not to set up one or more characters as a straw man
to represent everything evil about apartheid. Technically, the time period of the movie predates the
formal institutionalization of apartheid, but I still think the point s valid. Based on Alan Paton s 1946
novel, this film gives us a loving but painful look at a society headed toward increasing division and
violence. James Earl Jones and Richard Harris give great performances as fathers who are tested by
the unhappy fates of their respective sons. When these two have their first major scene together, we
can t help but feel compassion over the emotion involved. And later, when they eye each other while
taking refuge from a storm in a leaky church, they become an picture for two different and wary tribes
sharing a common home. The meat of Cry, the Beloved Country concerns how events in the wake of
the shooting transform the lives of Stephen Kumalo and James Jarvis. Each is forced to abandon their

Essay On Guidance Changes
Does Title IX Need Changed? An argument has emerged in the United States regarding the title IX
guidance changes of 2011. In 2011 the Obama administration changed some guidelines about sexual
assault in title IX. These changes would include many changes that colleges would have to make to
comply with the new title IX rules and regulations. Since 2011 there has been questions regarding if
the changes were doing what they were made to do, which was to further protect each party. Some
people believe that the changes of 2011 have worked well and need to stay. On the other hand, some
people claim that there are some major problems with the regulations and need to be rewritten. The
two sides disagree about Title IX Sexual Harassment/Assault ... Show more content on

On the other hand, some think that any evidence at all is enough to prove someone guilty of a sexual
assault. With schools increase in responsibility it is thought to be a reason why people are not
receiving a universities full attention and fail to receive a full fair trial. University s claim that every
case they investigate is to their best of their ability but the accused and even the victims have reported
what they thought of as a failure of a fair trial. Some statements also show that people seem to think
that students that are involved with a University sports team is treated differently than a normal
student. Also, reports seem to show a favor to female genders and discriminate males that are involved
in an investigation. One of the most debated topics of the 2011 changes to title IX is the differences
between a school trial and a criminal trial. Some people claim that schools sometimes fail or rush to
hand over any investigations over to the authorities. When a case is changed into a criminal trial often
noted is that the trial is much longer than a school trial and the accuser is sometimes harder to prove
that they are guilty. Much of the argument on this topic is when does the school stop and where does a
criminal trial take place? Some people believe that the schools should reserve the right to decide when

The Movie The Star Spangled Banner
Since the early 1900s, the playing of The Star Spangled Banner is an opportunity for citizens to honor
their country and reflect on the great liberties that they are afforded. It sounds simple but the anthem
has become complicated. This is America 2016, a time where police officers are getting away with
murder and a businessman is elected as our president. When the quarterback of the San Francisco
49ers Colin Kaepernick decided to not stand for the playing of the national anthem in the pre season
game of the NFL, he was the first athlete to vividly illustrate his outrage over the police brutality
stirring within the American population. His actions have led to a wave of athlete protests who are
joining to exercise their constitutional rights and help fight against an issue bigger than sports.
However, there are many citizens attacking the silent protests with violent threats and are calling the
participants disrespectful. While the controversy has centered on the playing of The Star Spangled
Banner, it has been overlooked that the problem is really with the entire country and the cultural
divisions that exist in today s society. Although many patriotic fans are criticizing and denouncing his
actions, Kaepernick and many other protesters are making a difference by standing against the
oppression of minorities and social injustices that are gripping our nation. After Kaepernick protested
against the national anthem, it inspired many athletes to join his silent actions.

Integrated Criteria Decision Making And Multi Criteria...
Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Research Report CS6705 Prioritized Multi Criteria Decision
Making and Multi Criteria Aggregation By Rizwan Umaid Ali Student # 3494784 Multi Criteria
decision making (MCDM) is an area of Artificial Intelligence which provides capabilities to assess
complex decision problems. The decisions can depend on our preferences of some criteria over others.
In this report, we analyze formulations of MCDM and Multi Criteria Aggregation. To further
understand this, we also see how we calculate prioritized measure of Multi Criteria Aggregation and
its Shapley index. Introduction For a modern application, reaching satisfaction can depend upon
several criteria. Each criteria in it can be satisfied to reach an optimal result, but in real world
scenarios satisfying every criteria is impossible and even not required. For example, if a bill needs to
be passed by an executive committee, we will need only half of the committee s approval to pass it.
This leads us to think that we can reach satisfaction with any set of members of the committee. In fact,
there are several cases where certain criteria have a higher priority than others and satisfaction cannot
be reached without them. For instance, if the president of the executive committee has to approve the
bill and other members just have to favour it, then the president will dominate the other criteria. To
logically state this we can say Satisfy criterion A and if possible satisfy criterion B . We

The Allusions Of Allusions In I Am A Cripple
Allusions in I Am a Cripple
Disabled. Disabled is a word commonly defined as being physically or mentally impaired, injured, or
incapacitated (dictionary.com). There s a stigma over the word disabled with its negative connotation.
Nancy Mairs, author of I Am a Cripple, dislikes this word because she thinks that the English
language incorporates too many euphemism in our speech. Mairs wants people to use more
straightforward language, even if it might be offensive to others. In I Am a Cripple , Mairs eloprates
on how she became disabled from the disease multiple sclerosis or (M.S). M.S., a disease that attacks
the central nervous system and often disables or cripples the person who has this disease. To describe
her first symptoms of M.S.(infinitive phrase) Mairs flashbacks to when she was in college. Also how
some days she wishes she was not disabled. Allusions in Nancy Mairs s I Am a Cripple provide a
deeper understanding of her complex feelings of having M.S. In I Am a Cripple Nancy Mairs uses
allusions to share her thoughts on her condition. Mairs begins her essay by articulating how she
strongly dislikes the word disabled to describe her. She explains how her word cripple is favorable to

The Mind And Body Problem
Abstract:
It is more reasonable to think that the patient has the usual range of mental states. Behaviours visually
express mental states better than knowing if one has a Cartesian soul or the requirement of a normal
human brain.
Body:
It is reasonable to think that the patient has the usual range of mental states because she is
behaviourally indistinguishable from a normal human. Behaviours make mental states more
evidentially obvious than knowing the brain state of a patient or if they have a Cartesian soul or not.
Doctor 4 provides the argument that since the patient is behaviourally indistinguishable from a normal
human, she has the usual range of mental states. Gilbert Ryle s view on the mind and body problem
stems from Philosophical or logical behaviourism (Wk. 8 1, Slide 18). This view means that the idea
that ascriptions of mental states correlates to dispositions of behaviour (Wk. 8 1, Slide 18).
Behaviourists describe that saying, I am in pain, does not report an inner state, but rather is part of
being in pain (Wk. 8 1, Slide 23). B.F. Skinner, a psychological behaviourist, also believes that mental
states correlate to behaviours. Psychological Behaviourism is defined as, studying the mind by
studying behaviour (Wk. 8 1, Slide 26). Skinner s black box is an experiment to observe
stimulus/response pairings (Wk. 8 1, Slide 26). Suppose we were to subject the patient to a number of
stimuli in a test environment, and noted down her behaviours. We would

Analysis Of The Poem The Dead
McCrea and Cheng have differing views on the role of identity within Joyce s The Dead. McCrea
argues that identity is incomplete because of the limitations of language whereas Cheng argues that
the cultural atmosphere shapes identity. I, however, agree with certain aspects of both arguments.
Firstly, I believe that McCrea s focus on failed communication is needed to understand the nature of
identity within The Dead; however, McCrea incorrectly blames everything on the failure of language,
when the individual and society is also partly responsible. Therefore, I believe that Cheng s argument,
that the environment partly forms identity, is valid; however, he needlessly restricts the Conroys
identities by directly comparing them to Britain and Ireland. I will use Cheng s focus on a culturally
formed identity in tandem with McCrea s thematic focus on failed communication within The Dead to
answer the question of why Gabriel Conroy s identity fades at the end of The Dead (248). To answer
this question, I will consider Gabriel s personal thoughts about himself, others, and how he responds
to each challenge he receives to his personhood.
First, we must discuss the state of Gabriel s identity before it fades. Before it fades, he is
misunderstood. This fact is seen when Gabriel has a conversation with Lily. During this conversation,
Gabriel exclaims that I suppose we ll be going to your wedding one of these fine days with your
young man (197). Lily responds, with great

The Pros And Cons Of Cybercloying
Every year, billions of dollars is being lost due to cybercrime and security. Harassment, Identity theft,
online predators, and ransom are some of the most cybercrimes being committed, that s causing the
most harm to billions of people.
First, there are many forms of harassment that can take place online. There is cyberbullying,
cyberstalking, and internet trolling. Although all three deals with harassment, they all mean something
different. Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place via social media, apps, gaming, share content, text
and etc. It includes posting, sharing, commenting, and sometimes even reacting to false or even mean
comments regarding another person. No Bullying: The World s Authority on Bulling, reported that in
2016, over nine million people have looked for some type of help or asked for advice regarding cyber
bullying (NoBullying Bullying CyberBullying Resources, 2017).
Bully victims are between two to nine times more likely to attempt to commit suicide. It is important
to take note of this because the suicide age is starting to become younger as years go one. For
example, a eight year old Cincinnati, OH boy had committed suicide in his house. Gabriel Taye
committed suicide because he was being bullied at school by his peers and at his school there was an
incident where on camera you can see one of his peers hitting him causing him to go unconscious. It
was unclear if the child was being bullied online also because investigation is still in

Pillars Of Salt Patriarchy
Patriarchy: A gravitational force in Muslim culture
In the novel Pillars of Salt, by Fadia Faqir, the prominence of patriarchy in Muslim culture is evident.
Two women, Maha and Um Saad, speak of their difficult lives, only to be discredited by men such as
Daffash and the Storyteller and their contradictory viewpoints. The Storyteller chapters always
follows Maha s chapters, and his purpose was to discredit Maha and prove that she was rebelling
against traditional Islam. Also, when Daffash enters into the novel the scenes involving him end with
Maha being psychologically and emotionally discredited or damaged. In addition, Um Saad faces the
same problem when her husband began to cheat on her, and if Um Saad was to act out, she would be

Faqir interjects Um Saad s story to reiterate the prominence of patriarchy and to further prove that
unempathetic viewpoints can make personal problems dissipate. Um Saad s life gives a different
viewpoint of Muslim women and their treatment as she lives in Amman, a modern city, and follows a
modern form of Islam. Even in the city she faces problems of her own, such as raising many children
while her husband, Abu Saad, stays far enough back to not be involved in everyday routines which are
shown to be the most hectic. Her story begins to demonstrate opposition to traditional Islam when the
change in her city is mentioned, where [women] took off their veils and capes and walked half naked
in the streets (157). While the city was modern Abu Saad still expected Um Saad to follow the same
traditional beliefs. Um Saad demonstrated her ability to be on her own and prove that she could still
function without always having a man around her as seen on page 95. I kept rubbing and pushing until
my knuckles became red and swollen. After beating the mattresses and carpets with the straw duster,
sweat dripped down my nose. Along with that example it is mentioned that she also delivered eight
children with Abu Saad. What is clear here is women in this culture are being discredited, but are such
a key role to society. An all male culture is not sustainable, neither is an

Mental Stigma, Media Misrepresentation And The False...
Mental health issues affect society in many ways, such as identification, treatment, and overall
understanding; as a result of this they have been mocked and dismissed for most of history. This paper
is a thorough investigation into the long, tumultuous history of mental illnesses. The history of mental
stigma, media misrepresentation and the false branding of the LGBT+ community will be explored. In
addition, this paper goes into detail about the horrific past of the treatment of mental patients in
asylums and the evolution of the understanding of mental illnesses, from mystical phenomena to
chemical imbalances. Mental illnesses are not a thing of the past. They are also our present and future.
John Q. Adams once said, Who we are, is who we were. That quote accurately describes mental
illnesses and the mental health of humans everywhere. A mental illness can be defined as a health
condition that changes a person s thought process, emotions, behavior, and/or their body. Mental
illness causes a person distress and difficulty in functioning and can lead to atrophy. They are
ingrained in the wiring of many and they override safety precautions that the brain has set in place
against viruses. Mental health issues affect society in many ways, such as identification, treatment,
and overall understanding; as a result of this they have been mocked and dismissed for most of
history. For all of history, mankind has had some semblance of being aware of mental illnesses. The

My Queer Identity
Journal VI: This Semester
I am thinking about every semester I have had at Brandeis so far; I feel that in every single one I earn
more life lessons that I can carry with me. This semester, I have gained more empowerment in
learning more about the person I am.
In previous semesters, I have grasped my Latinx identity through Latin American related courses and
through the exploration of its complex and vast history and culture. My immigrant identity has
developed through my own experience, my awareness work in the subject, investigating more about it
in classes, through my work in journalism, and my travels. There are so many different parts of me
that I am constructing one by one. It is as if each brick counts as one particle of my whole me. This
semester, I have been able to strongly grasp my queer identity, feeling more comfortable in my own
skin, by accepting who I am and sharing it with others the people I love and who are important in my
life. For sure my queer identity is the least explored brick out of the whole construction of myself.
And maybe because it is an identity I cannot explore without other(s). I think that I can certainly speak
about how I feel attracted to people of the same sex as mine. However, I certainly think that if I do not
love someone back, how could I be sure of my queer identity? So I experienced a tidbit of love and a
much too soon heartbreak, but it made me realize that, indeed, I am queer; I am proud.
This semester, I have been able to

Essay about Comparison of Japanese and American Cultures
COMPARISON OF JAPANESE AND AMERICAN CULTURES
As Mahatma Gandhi said, No culture can live, if it attempts to be exclusive (Mahatma). Our culture
identifies who we are and how we behave in social environments and provides us with a foundation in
which to live our lives and raise our families. Each individual culture has certain customs and
courtesies that are important. Exposure to the cultures of others can be intimidating and can leave a
person feeling confused and unsure about how they fit in (Schaefer 60). Culture shock can leave a
person feeling out of place in an unfamiliar culture (Schaefer 60). Our diverse societies demand
understanding and acceptance of other cultures. Learning and understanding these cultures before

Visits are generally arranged in advance and are very rarely spontaneous (Japan). When someone
comes for a visit they must remove their shoes in the entry area of the home and place them together,
pointing toward the outdoors; slippers are usually worn while inside (Japan). It is also customary to
remove your coat prior to stepping into the entry area (Japan). Guests are usually modest and reserved
when they are visiting and will be offered the most comfortable seat in the home (Japan). When
offered a meal it is customary for the guest to hesitate slightly before accepting it and will then accept
with gratitude (Japan). Guests do not usually offer compliments on household items, as this may
embarrass the host (Japan). It is customary to bring fruit or cake to offer as a gift for the host which is
given and accepted with both hands and a slight bow (Japan). It is considered rude for a host to open a
gift from a visitor at the time it is given (Japan).
Many of the customs followed by Americans come from the upbringing of the individual. As adults,
Americans may form their own special customs that will be unique for their family. The greetings and
visiting customs may vary from family to family, but generally most Americans have a simplistic
approach. American greetings are generally informal. Men and women greet each other with a smile
and a firm handshake (United States). Close friends and relatives will welcome each other with a hug

Health Care Policies Across Different Countries
Healthcare can be defined as the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, injury, illness, and
other physical and mental impairments that human beings may have. The healthcare system is made
up of an organization of trained people that have resources to deliver health care services to meet the
needs of the target population. Health care is practiced by licensed individuals in medicine, nursing,
pharmacy, dentistry, and other health professions. Access to healthcare is different depending on the
country and is largely influenced by its culture, political system and pre existing health policies. With
japan being the country of choice, its healthcare history, political system, and culture will be compared
to the United States system, history, and culture.
There are many different types of health insurances policies across different countries. Japan is located
at the eastern edge of the Asian continent. In japan, they are all covered by their governments adoption

Essay Comparing Grey s Anatomy And Empire
While hit TV series Grey s Anatomy and Empire are both extremely popular, they differ greatly in the
language used. In order to complete this project, I took linguistic concepts I had learned about in the
text such as grammar, context, and communicative competence and applied them to the language
usage in these TV series. A lot can be assumed about different characters based solely on their speech.
Take for instance two of the main characters in Grey s Anatomy, Meredith and Derek. Simply by
listening to their proper grammar, it is noticeable that they have received a formal education and are
quite intelligent. We would most likely assume that they grew up in a middle class home with working
parents who could afford their education.

There is not a wide variety in speech in each show. Grey s Anatomy is typically more formal and
professional while Empire is slightly less formal. The characters mentioned so far have been couples
or former couples. Because of this, they speak differently with each other than they do with other
characters in the show. A strong use of communicative practices is apparent for all characters. For
example, Meredith and Derek from Grey s Anatomy are married. They have more casual conversation
with one another compared to Meredith and her boss, Richard. Lucious and Cookie are a former
couple. They may have a more personal relationship but there is obvious tension between them. Each
character has a different discourse genre. While I have not watched every episode of these two
television programs, from what I have observed, code switching has not occurred. While there is a
wide variety in regards to the ethnicity of different characters, none of them are multilingual.
However, it is possible that code switching could occur in future episodes. For example, in Grey s
Anatomy they get many different types of patients. It is very likely that one of those patients may
speak two languages and switch in times of stress. The same is true of Empire. The clientele dealt with
in Empire ranges and there is a strong possibility one of those characters could practice code

Alternative Dispute Resolution And Arbitration Essay
Interest Arbitration In a situation where a dispute cannot be settled by the parties involved, there is a
need for a middle man. Instead of going straight into litigation, disputants are given the opportunities
to seek Alternative Dispute Resolutions. Alternative Dispute Resolutions are used widely around the
in the United in place of litigation. There are many types of Alternative Dispute Resolution and
Arbitration is one; however there are three types of arbitration: grievance arbitration, interest
arbitration and arbitration of statutory disputes. Arbitration is often used in labor relations to solve
issues that are under existing contracts. The focus of the paper is on interest arbitration. Interest
arbitration is used when an issue is not resolved in bargaining between the employer and the union,
[the dispute will be] presented to an impartial arbitrator for final resolution ( Learning about interest ,
n.d.). Before arbitration, the disputants would negotiate on a contract and if neither of them would
settle the union would call a strike or the employer can implement its last offer (Kersey Sherk, 2007).
They can call for a government appointed mediator after 90 days and submit a letter to arbitration after
30 days of mediation. The results of the settlement would last two years (Kersey Sherk, 2007). If the
either disputant is unsatisfied, they would have the option of litigation, if not, the arbitrations award is
binding which leaves the, with no other choices.

Prayer in Schools Essay
Prayer in Public School
There are many different philosophies regarding prayer in public school. It seems to be a difficult
issue to decide upon. The opinions are wide ranging and convoluted. This paper will attempt to
highlight the many ideas and opinions as to whether prayers in public school should be allowed and to
what extent. It will further show how our founders idea of a separate church and state has been taken
out of context and why prayer in school should be allowed, but not required.
The first opinion to evaluate is that there should be absolutely no prayer of any kind in public schools.
Bob Croddy has been teaching for almost 30 years and he wrote an article for the NEA Today
opposing any type of prayer in school, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pollitt goes on to say that prayer in school does nothing to lower crime rates or teen pregnancy rates,
much less raise SAT scores. She concludes that, Nothing reveals the bankruptcy of the new
conservatism more than it is promotion of school prayer. The message to youth is clear. We have
nothing for you here, start thinking about the hereafter (Pollitt 788).
In the same NEA Today that Bob Croddy wrote an article for, Connie Comeaux debated the merits of
a moment of silence. She has been teaching for nine years and is president of the Monroe City
Association of Educators in Monroe, Louisiana. She feels that if tragedy strikes a school and an
announcement goes out over the public address system for a moment of silence it should not be
against the law. She says that a moment of silence is not promoting religion. Ms. Comeaux says that a
moment of silence is not relative to any one religion and can be very beneficial to students to clear
their minds of clutter before the day begins (Comeaux 45). She also states that she does not believe in
state mandated prayer, and she does not want any government dictating how and to whom her children
should be praying (Comeaux 45).
These two feelings on the rights and reasons behind prayer or moments of silence in school are very
straightforward and clear. As we get

The Role Of Women In Dante s Divine Comedy
In the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri writes of his travels from Hell into Heaven, and through his
travels he uses roles of women to convey important characters on his travels. During the time when
Dante was writing this piece of literature women did not play an important role in society, so for
Dante to weave in women was uncharacteristic for the time. The three main women characters to
whom Dante refers to the most are Beatrice who is Dante s lover, Virgin Mary who sent Beatrice to
guide Dante and Virgil on their travels, and lastly, Saint Lucy or Lucia. Since Dante was a Christian,
these three women play a role of portraying the trinity in reference to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
In the late Middle Ages, women were forced under many disabilities. Society viewed women as
physically, intellectually, and morally inferior to men (Bornstein 1). In the 1300 s when Dante wrote
the Divine Comedy women did not play a key role in society outside the home. This was not solely
excluding a certain sex because of who they were, but because of how society in history has viewed
women. Many believed that women could not do a man s job or fit to be in charge of a certain group.
In the 1300 s, women were to be in charge of the household, take care of the children, make the food
for the day, and be a loyal wife to their husbands. Through the 1300 s women had a desire to voice
what they could achieve, so they started to speak out their opinions to the public. Women expressed in

Human Perception And The Evolution Of Intelligence
The air nipped at my body while ascending the enormous mountain, tired I yearned for a break from
this steep mountain side but, the break did not come till the mountain top was reached. I looked
around the high peak and embraced the vast wilderness that surrounded it. A sea of green trees
overwhelmed my senses, the bright blue sky pierced the tree line which ascended into the heavens.
The beautiful scenery made me think long and hard about why all of this exists the mountains, trees

Dualism is a huge concept in the theory of consciousness and it states the perception of one self falls
outside of the known physical realm; Substance dualism, such as traditional Cartesian dualism
(Descartes 1644), asserts the existence of both physical and non physical substances. Such theories
entail the existence of non physical minds or selves as entities in which consciousness inheres.
Though substance dualism is at present largely out of favor, it does have some contemporary
proponents (Swinburne 1986, Foster 1989, 1996). (Stanford)
This is a theory that falls under dualism as it explains perception as something that is not physical.
According to this theory perception is something that is within us, both physical and nonphysical
elements exist within
The Cartesian System is a theory about consciousness deeply rooted in the belief of a god.
The essence of mind is self conscious thinking; the essence of matter is extension in three dimensions.
God is a third, infinite substance, whose essence is necessary existence. God unites minds with bodies
to create a fourth, compound substance, human beings. Humans obtain general knowledge by
contemplating innate ideas of mind, matter, and God (britannica)
In the Cartesian system god is essential. God is the one who unites the mind with the body to create
self awareness. If god was not present

Identity Work s Relevance For Understanding Contemporary Work
Identity Work s relevance for understanding contemporary work and organising:
Shifting towards a modern organisational identity:
In order to understand identity work, we need to understand the changing role of organisational
identity in contemporary organisation. Marx, Weber Durkheim observed a shift from agricultural and
craftwork to factory and office based work (Barley Kunda, 2001). A shift from a more physical blue
collar labour to an office based white collar took place. Whilst computers and other technologies have
eliminated different kinds of work, they have also created new ones and have transformed a significant
portion of others, for example in IT industry (Barley 1988, Adler 1992). There are new struggles in the
workplaceÂŹ, such as new identity intensive issues such as feminisation of managerial roles, the
shifting meaning of professionalism and internationalisation of business activity. The increased
number of women occupying managerial and professional positions, traditionally taken by men, has
changed the former taken for granted meaning of managerial identity (Alvesson Willmott, 2002).
Taking all of these identity changes in account, Barley and Kunda suggest that the nature of work and
organisation studies are interdependent (Barley Kunda 2001), therefore, contemporary organisational
theorists are forced to adapt to the change in the nature of work.
Defining and Conceptualising Identity Work:
Identity work is the process of forming,

Tigers are amazing animals, probably the biggest cat to roam the Jungle. They are great learners, adapt
to their surroundings, and accomplish anything of their main goal. They re a little weak for when they

sneaky, you can t hear them even in a Library, they have thick paws which are very squishy to avoid
making screeching noises when they stalk prey.
When a baby Tiger is born, it is only 2 3 pounds, the size of a fist, and cant see. They don t open their
eyes until they are at least 2 weeks old. When they learn to walk, their mom starts feeding them meats
but still feeds them milk too. When they are young they barely even have stripes, but when they start
growing, they gain a stripe a day. At first, it s really hard to pierce the meat at a young age. it s just

Persuasive Essay On Being A Outsider
Being an outsider is a position that an individual does not fit in with the rest of society. Areas of
society are often called clique at which we feel like we must coordinate our actions to follow and
pleases. Those actions leads to the anonymous question should the outside, those who do not follow
the rest be embraced or rejected. Corresponding with the rights of our world, we are seen as equal, yet
we do not always follow that. Outsiders should be rejected, providing them growth, individuality
through independence and, crucial life skills. Like a seed planted in the soil growing into a nice tree.
Similar to the seed outsiders are born and left to grow. They are living , breathing, eating and drinking
yet they are not as high on the competition list as others are who follow the same steps. With that said
the seed or outsiders are left to grow while being independent they from senses of personal goals
which allow them to transform their minds around whatever that goal may be, possible career,
academics or even financial goals at which only make them better and stronger people. Each of these
people begin with disadvantages that could have, and at times did exclude them from normal society.
But each turned their differences into advantages (Clark). Critics say that the growth is in the wrong
areas they should be developing growth in terms of friends and social rankings. Arguing that starts

The Impact Of Climate Change On Rising Sea Levels
Research Paper
The Impact of Climate Change on Rising Sea Levels
Over the past century, changes in the climate have affected our sea levels. From global warming to
man made causes, these factors contribute into one of the most predictable catastrophic disasters.
While rising sea levels can lead to a flooding disaster, there are other consequences that are impacted
due to this component that can affect the whole planet.
Changes in the climate have been an on going critical issue that has been affecting the present time
and near future. One of the causes that has contributed to climate change and rising sea levels is global
warming. Global warming, the gradual heating of Earth s surface, oceans and atmosphere (Bradford)
has caused warmer temperatures, leading to a growth in earths average temperature. Earth s average
temperature has risen by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, over the past century, according to the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) (Bradford). Many might say that 1.4 degrees is quite a small number, but the
issue here isn t with the number of degrees is going up but rather with the extra energy the earth is
having to do it is causing those drastic changes in our weather.
As this continues to occur, not only is our atmosphere getting warmer but by doing so, so is our water.
And since our oceans water help absorb most of the excess heat our atmosphere creates, when it
absorbs too much heat (making the water warmer) it affects the lives of the animals

Make that special day in your life a truly memorable experience with cornflower bridesmaid dresses.
The cornflower is not only a great choice of color for your bridesmaid dresses but also for your
wedding setting. The cornflower color is a shade of medium to light blue and was one of the favorite
colors of Johannes Vermeer, a Dutch painter during the Golden Age era.
The cornflower is a unique choice of color for bridesmaid dresses. Cornflower bridesmaid dresses are

If you are a pear body shape or an apple figure, then the princess cut is right for you because it does
not hug the stomach or the midsection area. The linear panels of this cut produce a slimming effect

The popular image that comes to mind when you hear the word halter is a sundress style that ties
around the neck and exposes a great amount of shoulder skin. The halter cut is synonymous to
sexiness as it helps define the bust as well as the shoulders. A backless halter cornflower bridesmaid
dress is ideal for a beach or casual wedding. If you want this cut to be more formal, you can use a
chiffon or satin fabric and add some embellishments. A halter cut is usually secured with a tie at the
back of the neck and the waistline.
The relaxed style of the revel cut makes it an ideal choice for a casual or summer wedding. The
swingy silhouette fits comfortably without being too tight or fitted. The revel cut gives the illusion of
curves and is a perfect example of an edgy and sophisticated

The Supreme Courts Failures Culminated Together
For more than decades the court has continued to be pivotal in some of the biggest decisions for the
social identity of America. Specifically noting that for many years the majority of Americans
supported things that shaped the identity of American history (i.e. Slavery, Gay marriage, Sodomy,
etc.). Erwin Chemernisky continues to examine whether the courts roles in major social issues have
failed the American people or not. Erwin continues to explain that the supreme courts failures
culminated together, are not only a failure for race issues in America, but also a failure to interpret the
constitution effectively (21). These broad generalizations of the court flourish throughout his book,
however, it is final assessment of the court that leaves the most to be contended with. Specifically
noting that overall the court has done way more harm than good with regards to addressing minority
issues an in wake of the warren court has continued to make flawed decisions in favor of the majority
(53). This rhetoric must be addressed and analyzed by first looking to professor Erwin s view of the
courts take on minority, secondly analyzing his take on the court before and after the warren era and
lastly addressing his support and analysis of the purpose of judicial review. Through this analysis it
will become evident that Erwin Chemernisky has misinterpreted the supreme courts position as a
protector of minority rights instead of the upholder and interpreter of the constitution and law.

Patent Trolls Research Paper
Memo to Congress: Help Small Business by Deterring Patent Trolls
Darrell Issa (Republican of California), the incoming chair of the House Intellectual Property
Subcommittee said recently (http://blogs.rollcall.com/technocrat/issa to head house judiciarys courts

legislation to curb the problem stalled in the Democratic controlled Senate last year, small business
owners were left without a Congressional solution.
Patent trolls are businesses that acquire intellectual property for the sole purpose of collecting
damages for infringement. More often than not they employ unscrupulous tactics to extract
compensation from alleged infringers. One commonly employed technique is to send a vaguely

President Bill Clinton and The Lewinsky Scandal Essay
Clinton and The Lewinsky Scandal
On January 17th, 1998, President Clinton videotaped a deposition for the Paula Jones lawsuit against

s history to face impeachment from congress. The 1998 1999 was a tumultuous year for the President,
the media, and the American people as a whole.
Yet, the most intriguing and surprising aspect of the scandal was not that Bill Clinton would ever cheat

successful in office. He was the first democrat to successfully be reelected since Franklin Roosevelt.
Yet, when a sufficient amount of time has passed and historians attempt to categorize and analyze Bill
Clinton s presidency, his legacy will ultimately be tied to scandal. The numerous scandals that Clinton
faced and survived were an important aspect of the Clinton presidency. On one hand, they showed the
well documented weakness of Clinton s personal character his infidelities, his evasiveness, and his

scandals could easily and have on numerous occasions ruin a political career. Yet, in each of these
episodes Clinton was unusually adept at surviving and restoring his image. The importance of
illustrating Clinton s past encounters with scandal is not to show the moral weakness of Clinton s
character; nor is it to show cagey moves of

The Effectiveness Of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy
This essay is about the effectiveness of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in the
treatment of depression. The purpose of this essay is to address the question, how mindfulness works
to improve mental health when used as part of psychological treatment? Firstly, a brief overview is
given about what depression is and what the symptoms are, based on the Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM 5). Secondly, It will discuss mindfulness, as it is
defined in mental health treatments. The main body of this essay will cover a description of what
MBTC is, where it comes from, how it works, and how this treatment is activated in mindfulness
based therapies. The final section will review three studies that have used MBCT in the treatment of
depression.

Similarities Between Underground And Notes From The...
As I read Notes from the underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and watched the film Rashomon
directed by Akira Kurosawa I noticed a few similarities and differences between the two. They were
similar because they both are frame narratives, the narrator is unreliable, there were parts in first
person or was written in first person and they both had analepsis. The main differences were the
themes. The themes were very different in both stories.
What is the theme in literature? A theme in literature is the main topic or topics of a story. As I read
through the required text and watch the film I chose egoism and individual versus society for Notes
from the Underground and multiplicity for Rashomon .
A frame narrative is basically a story within a story. In Notes from the Underground the whole story is
basically a bunch of stories that the narrator tells about his life. The narrator talks about his past and
this is where analepsis comes in which is a flashback to a different time. For example the narrator lets
us know at the beginning he is forty then later on he goes on to talk about what happens when he was
twenty four. The narrator also is unreliable because the story is told in an irrational way. The film
Rashomon also has a bunch of stories within the film. As each person tells their side, it s almost like
mini stories. And as with Notes from the Underground the stories go back as analepsis. They flashback
to the time when they happened to describe what actually happens. This film is described as an
unreliable narrative because each story that was told was different, which makes you wonder what
really happened.
When I finished watching Rashomon I immediately said the theme is multiplicity. Every person that
saw what happened had their own view of what happened. There was no story that was the exact say
as the other. But that there says people will do anything to make a story sound good. Each
interpretation of how everything went made someone look like someone else was to blame. There is a
saying there is more than one side of a story and this film proves that. The bandit that has a reputation
for killing and lust tied the samurai and kissed his wife. The woodcutter found the man s dead body of

Weapons of Mass Destruction and Risk Galore
Weapons of mass destruction, as classified by the FBI, are any destructive devices, chemical or
biological agents used with the intention of causing death or injury on a large scale. These weapons
have been used in history, but most are banned to due to the extent of destruction caused. The atom
bomb, probably the most well known of these weapons were used sparingly but caused massive
damage in the few areas affected. Chemical weapons, agents that can be traced in Syria today, have
the potential to spread quickly while causing death and severe injury to those affected. Like chemical
weapons, biological weapons which have been used since the early 1900 s, possess the trait of quick
contamination and severe damage to those affected. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1995, terrorists released chemical gas on a Tokyo subway; this resulted in several deaths and
disabilities towards those who survived (OPCW). The United States used chemicals in the Vietnam
War; the spreading of these chemicals led to several health problems among US war veterans today,
limbless children in Vietnam, and 650,000 Vietnamese suffering from chronic conditions (McMillan).
As chemical weapons are banned, Barack Obama had reacted, as Syria used chemical weapons on its
own people, to say that the use of chemical weapons is banned and those who fail to comply have
crossed the red line (Cagle Cartoons). Due to the fact that chemical weapons are internationally
banned, it is obvious that they possess a threat to security and mankind, especially as they can cause
widespread damage as a result of their toxicity. The use of chemical weapons lead to a large number of
harmful effects toward the human body. Nerve agents lead to the malfunction of the nervous system,
nausea, convulsions and spasms. Other agents, like the blistering, choking, or blood agents result large
blisters, 3rd degree burns, damage to the lungs, respiratory failure and death (Shea). As a result, these
harmful effects have led to the banning of chemical weapons as they possess abundant threats to
humankind. To summarize, chemical weapons, weaponry that is internationally banned, have the
potential to cause horrific injuries and death among humans

The Importance Of Teachers On The Classroom Environment
In order to develop strong relationships with my students, colleagues, and parents, I plan to do a
variety of little things to yield big results. The relationship that teachers have with students is vital to
the classroom environment. In You ve Got to Reach Them to Teach Them, Mary Kim Schrek writes
that the human encounter between teacher and student is often a more powerful teaching tool than the
academic content, the grade, the data analysis, and the hours spent picking apart the curriculum
(Schrek, 2011, p. 5). In order to establish such relationships, I plan to follow a four step procedure that
I read about in an article by Nina Sears on the National Education Association s website. Sears article
suggests that a teacher get to know their students, individualize the curriculum, watch what they say,
and keep trying to reach students (Sears, 2014). As an attempt to get to know my students, I will create
a little survey on the first day of school for each student to fill out; questions would include asking my
students what their favorite color is or what type of books they like to read. By doing this, I will learn
about my students likes and dislikes and how to use their answer in the curriculum. Individualizing the
curriculum might seem like a huge undertaking but if a teacher is willing to work with the student, it is
not a big deal. For example, I was an auditory learner and I had a teacher who altered the project
requirements so I could write a song to

Bronfenbrenner s Ecological Systems Theory And Its Impact...
The purpose of this essay is to provide an overview of Bronfenbrenner s ecological systems theory
and its impact on early childhood development. The researcher will review key literature to present a
background of the ecological approach. Furthermore, the researcher will discuss how to implement the
ecological approach to develop a quality learning environment for early childhood education (i.e., for
children 0 8 years). A summary will conclude the essay.
Ecological Systems Theory Background Bronfenbrenner s ecological systems theory describes a child
s development within the context of the system of relationships that form his or her environment
(Paquette Ryan, 2001, p. 1). Notably, Bronfenbrenner was the cofounder of the head start program.
Most recently, researchers have changed the name of ecological systems to bioecological systems to
show the importance of a child s own biological environment. The child s biology was found to be a
fundamental factor of their environment and also development (Paquette Ryan, 2001). The theory is
composed of complex environmental levels, which influences the child s overall development. To
clarify, Bronfenbrenner developed three levels or systems, which includes (a) microsystem, (b)
mesosystem, and (c) exosystem (Paquette Ryan, 2001). The microsystem covers those elements a
child has direct interactions with, such as their family, school, or daycare. The mesosystem is
comprised of the child s indirect environment, such

  • 2. Cry the Beloved Country Movie versus Film Essay Cry, the Beloved Country is a moving story of the Zulu pastor Stephen Kumalo and his son Absalom. They live in an Africa torn apart by racial tensions and hate. It is based on a work of love and hope, courage, and endurance, and deals with the dignity of man. The author lived and died (1992) in South Africa and was one of the greatest writers of that country. His other works include Too Late the Phalarope, Ah, but Your Land Is Beautiful, and Tales from a Troubled Land. The book was made into a movie starring James Earl Jones and Richard Harris. The book takes you to South Africa, where the land itself is the essence of a man. It as if the mountains, soaring high above the clouds, are the high moments in life, and the valleys are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At times, sections of dialogue are lifted directly from the books pages. More importantly, however, Paton s themes are brought home with devastating, deep impact through a production that captures the book s essence as close as it recounts the narrative. There isn t a false note in Cry, The Beloved Country. Every scene in the film is perfectly executed with great composition. Cry, The Beloved Country is the first movie about racial relations in South Africa I personally have seen which trusts the viewer s intelligence enough not to set up one or more characters as a straw man to represent everything evil about apartheid. Technically, the time period of the movie predates the formal institutionalization of apartheid, but I still think the point s valid. Based on Alan Paton s 1946 novel, this film gives us a loving but painful look at a society headed toward increasing division and violence. James Earl Jones and Richard Harris give great performances as fathers who are tested by the unhappy fates of their respective sons. When these two have their first major scene together, we can t help but feel compassion over the emotion involved. And later, when they eye each other while taking refuge from a storm in a leaky church, they become an picture for two different and wary tribes sharing a common home. The meat of Cry, the Beloved Country concerns how events in the wake of the shooting transform the lives of Stephen Kumalo and James Jarvis. Each is forced to abandon their ... • 3. Essay On Guidance Changes Does Title IX Need Changed? An argument has emerged in the United States regarding the title IX guidance changes of 2011. In 2011 the Obama administration changed some guidelines about sexual assault in title IX. These changes would include many changes that colleges would have to make to comply with the new title IX rules and regulations. Since 2011 there has been questions regarding if the changes were doing what they were made to do, which was to further protect each party. University s claim that every case they investigate is to their best of their ability but the accused and even the victims have reported what they thought of as a failure of a fair trial. Some statements also show that people seem to think that students that are involved with a University sports team is treated differently than a normal student. Also, reports seem to show a favor to female genders and discriminate males that are involved in an investigation. One of the most debated topics of the 2011 changes to title IX is the differences between a school trial and a criminal trial. Some people claim that schools sometimes fail or rush to hand over any investigations over to the authorities. When a case is changed into a criminal trial often noted is that the trial is much longer than a school trial and the accuser is sometimes harder to prove that they are guilty. The Movie The Star Spangled Banner Since the early 1900s, the playing of The Star Spangled Banner is an opportunity for citizens to honor their country and reflect on the great liberties that they are afforded. It sounds simple but the anthem has become complicated. This is America 2016, a time where police officers are getting away with murder and a businessman is elected as our president. When the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers Colin Kaepernick decided to not stand for the playing of the national anthem in the pre season game of the NFL, he was the first athlete to vividly illustrate his outrage over the police brutality stirring within the American population. His actions have led to a wave of athlete protests who are joining to exercise their constitutional rights and help fight against an issue bigger than sports. However, there are many citizens attacking the silent protests with violent threats and are calling the participants disrespectful. While the controversy has centered on the playing of The Star Spangled Banner, it has been overlooked that the problem is really with the entire country and the cultural divisions that exist in today s society. Although many patriotic fans are criticizing and denouncing his actions, Kaepernick and many other protesters are making a difference by standing against the oppression of minorities and social injustices that are gripping our nation. After Kaepernick protested against the national anthem, it inspired many athletes to join his silent actions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Research Report CS6705 Prioritized Multi Criteria Decision Making and Multi Criteria Aggregation By Rizwan Umaid Ali Student # 3494784 Multi Criteria decision making (MCDM) is an area of Artificial Intelligence which provides capabilities to assess complex decision problems. The decisions can depend on our preferences of some criteria over others. In this report, we analyze formulations of MCDM and Multi Criteria Aggregation. To further understand this, we also see how we calculate prioritized measure of Multi Criteria Aggregation and its Shapley index. Introduction For a modern application, reaching satisfaction can depend upon several criteria. Each criteria in it can be satisfied to reach an optimal result, but in real world scenarios satisfying every criteria is impossible and even not required. For example, if a bill needs to be passed by an executive committee, we will need only half of the committee s approval to pass it. This leads us to think that we can reach satisfaction with any set of members of the committee. In fact, there are several cases where certain criteria have a higher priority than others and satisfaction cannot be reached without them. For instance, if the president of the executive committee has to approve the bill and other members just have to favour it, then the president will dominate the other criteria. To logically state this we can say Satisfy criterion A and if possible satisfy criterion B . We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Mind And Body Problem Abstract: It is more reasonable to think that the patient has the usual range of mental states. Behaviours visually express mental states better than knowing if one has a Cartesian soul or the requirement of a normal human brain. Body: It is reasonable to think that the patient has the usual range of mental states because she is behaviourally indistinguishable from a normal human. Behaviours make mental states more evidentially obvious than knowing the brain state of a patient or if they have a Cartesian soul or not. Doctor 4 provides the argument that since the patient is behaviourally indistinguishable from a normal human, she has the usual range of mental states. Gilbert Ryle s view on the mind and body problem stems from Philosophical or logical behaviourism (Wk. 8 1, Slide 18). This view means that the idea that ascriptions of mental states correlates to dispositions of behaviour (Wk. 8 1, Slide 18). Behaviourists describe that saying, I am in pain, does not report an inner state, but rather is part of being in pain (Wk. 8 1, Slide 23). B.F. Skinner, a psychological behaviourist, also believes that mental states correlate to behaviours. Psychological Behaviourism is defined as, studying the mind by studying behaviour (Wk. 8 1, Slide 26). Skinner s black box is an experiment to observe stimulus/response pairings (Wk. 8 1, Slide 26). • 12. Analysis Of The Poem The Dead McCrea and Cheng have differing views on the role of identity within Joyce s The Dead. McCrea argues that identity is incomplete because of the limitations of language whereas Cheng argues that the cultural atmosphere shapes identity. I, however, agree with certain aspects of both arguments. Firstly, I believe that McCrea s focus on failed communication is needed to understand the nature of identity within The Dead; however, McCrea incorrectly blames everything on the failure of language, when the individual and society is also partly responsible. Therefore, I believe that Cheng s argument, that the environment partly forms identity, is valid; however, he needlessly restricts the Conroys identities by directly comparing them to Britain and Ireland. I will use Cheng s focus on a culturally formed identity in tandem with McCrea s thematic focus on failed communication within The Dead to answer the question of why Gabriel Conroy s identity fades at the end of The Dead (248). To answer this question, I will consider Gabriel s personal thoughts about himself, others, and how he responds to each challenge he receives to his personhood. First, we must discuss the state of Gabriel s identity before it fades. Before it fades, he is misunderstood. This fact is seen when Gabriel has a conversation with Lily. During this conversation, Gabriel exclaims that I suppose we ll be going to your wedding one of these fine days with your young man (197). Lily responds, with great ... Even in the city she faces problems of her own, such as raising many children while her husband, Abu Saad, stays far enough back to not be involved in everyday routines which are shown to be the most hectic. She also states that she does not believe in state mandated prayer, and she does not want any government dictating how and to whom her children should be praying (Comeaux 45). • 25. The Role Of Women In Dante s Divine Comedy In the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri writes of his travels from Hell into Heaven, and through his travels he uses roles of women to convey important characters on his travels. During the time when Dante was writing this piece of literature women did not play an important role in society, so for Dante to weave in women was uncharacteristic for the time. The three main women characters to whom Dante refers to the most are Beatrice who is Dante s lover, Virgin Mary who sent Beatrice to guide Dante and Virgil on their travels, and lastly, Saint Lucy or Lucia. Since Dante was a Christian, these three women play a role of portraying the trinity in reference to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. In the late Middle Ages, women were forced under many disabilities. Society viewed women as physically, intellectually, and morally inferior to men (Bornstein 1). In the 1300 s when Dante wrote the Divine Comedy women did not play a key role in society outside the home. This was not solely excluding a certain sex because of who they were, but because of how society in history has viewed women. Many believed that women could not do a man s job or fit to be in charge of a certain group. In the 1300 s, women were to be in charge of the household, take care of the children, make the food for the day, and be a loyal wife to their husbands. Through the 1300 s women had a desire to voice what they could achieve, so they started to speak out their opinions to the public. Women expressed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dualism is a huge concept in the theory of consciousness and it states the perception of one self falls outside of the known physical realm; Substance dualism, such as traditional Cartesian dualism (Descartes 1644), asserts the existence of both physical and non physical substances. Such theories entail the existence of non physical minds or selves as entities in which consciousness inheres. Though substance dualism is at present largely out of favor, it does have some contemporary proponents (Swinburne 1986, Foster 1989, 1996). (Stanford) This is a theory that falls under dualism as it explains perception as something that is not physical. According to this theory perception is something that is within us, both physical and nonphysical elements exist within The Cartesian System is a theory about consciousness deeply rooted in the belief of a god. The essence of mind is self conscious thinking; the essence of matter is extension in three dimensions. God is a third, infinite substance, whose essence is necessary existence. God unites minds with bodies to create a fourth, compound substance, human beings. • 27. Identity Work s Relevance For Understanding Contemporary Work Identity Work s relevance for understanding contemporary work and organising: Shifting towards a modern organisational identity: In order to understand identity work, we need to understand the changing role of organisational identity in contemporary organisation. Marx, Weber Durkheim observed a shift from agricultural and craftwork to factory and office based work (Barley Kunda, 2001). A shift from a more physical blue collar labour to an office based white collar took place. Whilst computers and other technologies have eliminated different kinds of work, they have also created new ones and have transformed a significant portion of others, for example in IT industry (Barley 1988, Adler 1992). There are new struggles in the workplaceÂŹ, such as new identity intensive issues such as feminisation of managerial roles, the shifting meaning of professionalism and internationalisation of business activity. The increased number of women occupying managerial and professional positions, traditionally taken by men, has changed the former taken for granted meaning of managerial identity (Alvesson Willmott, 2002). Taking all of these identity changes in account, Barley and Kunda suggest that the nature of work and organisation studies are interdependent (Barley Kunda 2001), therefore, contemporary organisational theorists are forced to adapt to the change in the nature of work. Those actions leads to the anonymous question should the outside, those who do not follow the rest be embraced or rejected. Corresponding with the rights of our world, we are seen as equal, yet we do not always follow that. Outsiders should be rejected, providing them growth, individuality through independence and, crucial life skills. Like a seed planted in the soil growing into a nice tree. From global warming to man made causes, these factors contribute into one of the most predictable catastrophic disasters. While rising sea levels can lead to a flooding disaster, there are other consequences that are impacted due to this component that can affect the whole planet. Changes in the climate have been an on going critical issue that has been affecting the present time and near future. One of the causes that has contributed to climate change and rising sea levels is global warming. Global warming, the gradual heating of Earth s surface, oceans and atmosphere (Bradford) has caused warmer temperatures, leading to a growth in earths average temperature. Earth s average temperature has risen by 1.4 degrees Fahrenheit, over the past century, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Bradford). Many might say that 1.4 degrees is quite a small number, but the issue here isn t with the number of degrees is going up but rather with the extra energy the earth is having to do it is causing those drastic changes in our weather. As this continues to occur, not only is our atmosphere getting warmer but by doing so, so is our water. And since our oceans water help absorb most of the excess heat our atmosphere creates, when it absorbs too much heat (making the water warmer) it affects the lives of the animals ... Specifically noting that for many years the majority of Americans supported things that shaped the identity of American history (i.e. Slavery, Gay marriage, Sodomy, etc.). Erwin Chemernisky continues to examine whether the courts roles in major social issues have failed the American people or not. Erwin continues to explain that the supreme courts failures culminated together, are not only a failure for race issues in America, but also a failure to interpret the constitution effectively (21). These broad generalizations of the court flourish throughout his book, however, it is final assessment of the court that leaves the most to be contended with. Specifically noting that overall the court has done way more harm than good with regards to addressing minority issues an in wake of the warren court has continued to make flawed decisions in favor of the majority (53). This rhetoric must be addressed and analyzed by first looking to professor Erwin s view of the courts take on minority, secondly analyzing his take on the court before and after the warren era and lastly addressing his support and analysis of the purpose of judicial review. Through this analysis it will become evident that Erwin Chemernisky has misinterpreted the supreme courts position as a protector of minority rights instead of the upholder and interpreter of the constitution and law. ... As I read Notes from the underground by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and watched the film Rashomon directed by Akira Kurosawa I noticed a few similarities and differences between the two. They were similar because they both are frame narratives, the narrator is unreliable, there were parts in first person or was written in first person and they both had analepsis. The main differences were the themes. The themes were very different in both stories. What is the theme in literature? A theme in literature is the main topic or topics of a story. As I read through the required text and watch the film I chose egoism and individual versus society for Notes from the Underground and multiplicity for Rashomon . A frame narrative is basically a story within a story. In Notes from the Underground the whole story is basically a bunch of stories that the narrator tells about his life. The narrator talks about his past and this is where analepsis comes in which is a flashback to a different time. For example the narrator lets us know at the beginning he is forty then later on he goes on to talk about what happens when he was twenty four. The narrator also is unreliable because the story is told in an irrational way. The film Rashomon also has a bunch of stories within the film. As each person tells their side, it s almost like mini stories. And as with Notes from the Underground the stories go back as analepsis. They flashback to the time when they happened to describe what actually happens. This film is described as an unreliable narrative because each story that was told was different, which makes you wonder what really happened. When I finished watching Rashomon I immediately said the theme is multiplicity. Every person that saw what happened had their own view of what happened. There was no story that was the exact say as the other. But that there says people will do anything to make a story sound good. Each interpretation of how everything went made someone look like someone else was to blame. There is a saying there is more than one side of a story and this film proves that. The Importance Of Teachers On The Classroom Environment In order to develop strong relationships with my students, colleagues, and parents, I plan to do a variety of little things to yield big results. The relationship that teachers have with students is vital to the classroom environment. In You ve Got to Reach Them to Teach Them, Mary Kim Schrek writes that the human encounter between teacher and student is often a more powerful teaching tool than the academic content, the grade, the data analysis, and the hours spent picking apart the curriculum (Schrek, 2011, p. 5). In order to establish such relationships, I plan to follow a four step procedure that I read about in an article by Nina Sears on the National Education Association s website. Sears article suggests that a teacher get to know their students, individualize the curriculum, watch what they say, and keep trying to reach students (Sears, 2014). As an attempt to get to know my students, I will create a little survey on the first day of school for each student to fill out; questions would include asking my students what their favorite color is or what type of books they like to read. By doing this, I will learn about my students likes and dislikes and how to use their answer in the curriculum. Individualizing the curriculum might seem like a huge undertaking but if a teacher is willing to work with the student, it is not a big deal. The purpose of this essay is to provide an overview of Bronfenbrenner s ecological systems theory and its impact on early childhood development. The researcher will review key literature to present a background of the ecological approach. Furthermore, the researcher will discuss how to implement the ecological approach to develop a quality learning environment for early childhood education (i.e., for children 0 8 years). A summary will conclude the essay. Ecological Systems Theory Background Bronfenbrenner s ecological systems theory describes a child s development within the context of the system of relationships that form his or her environment (Paquette Ryan, 2001, p. 1). Notably, Bronfenbrenner was the cofounder of the head start program. Most recently, researchers have changed the name of ecological systems to bioecological systems to show the importance of a child s own biological environment. The child s biology was found to be a fundamental factor of their environment and also development (Paquette Ryan, 2001). The theory is composed of complex environmental levels, which influences the child s overall development. To clarify, Bronfenbrenner developed three levels or systems, which includes (a) microsystem, (b) mesosystem, and (c) exosystem (Paquette Ryan, 2001). The microsystem covers those elements a child has direct interactions with, such as their family, school, or daycare. The mesosystem is comprised of the child s indirect environment, such ...
