Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream is a tale surrounding the love of a couple forbade to wed
and the misadventures following their resolution to elope. The story follows different characters of
varying scopes throughout the night that all encounter some level of magical interference to their
lives. The following analysis of A Midsummer Night s Dream explores the role of magic within the
play, and how it affected each of the principle characters.
The use and misuse of magic has an important role in A Midsummer Night s Dream (The Use of
Magic in A Midsummers Night Dream :: William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night s Dream). As the
play begins, Act I, Scene i lets the audience meet four of the key characters of they play; Hermia,

Beginning his story, Bottom meets up with a few men to rehearse a play they hope to perform for the
Duke s upcoming wedding. As one of the men hands out the parts to be played, Bottom incessantly
interjects; claiming he would be perfect for each role named, but is finally convinced that he can only
play the lead. The scene ends with the group dispersing, agreeing to meet the following night in the
woods to rehearse.
With Act II, Scene I, the audience is familiarized with the magical individuals residing in the woods;
Robin Goodfellow, who is more commonly referred to as Puck, Oberon, King of the Fairies, and
Titania, Queen of the Fairies. The King and Queen are at odds from the beginning of their story due to
a boy Titania has taken in that Oberon wishes to take possession, I do but beg a little changeling boy,

Moral Compass
There is a difference between having a good or strong moral compass and being a good person. No
matter how much you believe in justice or equality or anything else, as long as you don t actively
follow that compass, you can t honestly call yourself a good person. In fact, that might even make you
worse; you know something is wrong but you do it anyway. On one hand, I like to think that I believe
in truth, justice and the equality of all God s children, but in reality, even if I do believe this, I don t
change my actions to fit my own code.
Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it s not necessarily the
utmost condemnable thing a person can do, it is a more accessible evil. Most people I know don t
commit murder or other grand crimes, but I d venture to say most people I know lie. Ever since I was
young, I always felt that lying was so deeply wrong, purposefully deceiving the people around you. As
long as I remember, I would feel so ashamed whenever I lied, but on the ... Show more content on

Frankly, it doesn t really matter what my moral code is or how stupid my standards are for myself, if I
seem like a good person and just tell people what they want to hear, I will look fair and relatively

unhappiness, everyone at some points needs to choose either their morals or their ambition. Choosing
your morals may mean deeper emotional happiness but choosing your ambitions means great success
overall. I may be a hypocrite, and an unhappy one at that, but considering following my ambitions has
worked for me for the past eighteen years, I m unlikely to stop now. At this point, my ambitions have
drawn out a map for me, I ll go to a good college, get a well paying job and be otherwise successful.

The goal of this framework is not only to reduce the number of lives lost as a result of various
disasters but also to reduce the economic, social and environmental losses to communities. Nurses and
midwives are viewed by WHO (2007) as being essential in response to a disaster, but also notes that
the lack of training provided for dealing with disasters as a major flaw in the disaster and emergency
response worldwide. Therefore, it is essential that all nurses and midwives are trained in disaster
nursing and meet these competencies just like any other competencies they are required to meet, in
order to be effective when disaster strikes. Geebie and Qureshi (2002) explain how they believe that
disaster nursing requires individuals to use their nursing knowledge and skills in difficult situations
with limited resources and ever changing conditions. During these difficult times it is essential that
nurses can adapt their practice to be disaster specific in order to minimise life threatening damage and
health hazards caused by the disaster. Jennings Sanders, Frisch amp; Wing (2005) demonstrate that
nurses, other healthcare professionals, emergency services, and both non governmental and
governmental organizations must work in collaboration during these situations in order for the best
outcome to prevail. It is essential in a disaster situation that nurses involved in the care of patients
must be able to shift their

Driving In The Summer Compare And Contrast

dangerous weather to drive in. but there are differences between the two and there are similarities. The
similarities of driving in the winter and the summer is that they both have inclement weather that can
be hard to drive in. That can cause it to be very dangerous on the roads. The differences is that in the
summer it is clear blue skies making it easier to see when you are driving. It can also be very difficult
to see when the sun is shining the sun can be often very bright. Also sometimes in the summer it s

The American Dream In The 1980 s
In the 1980s there were many things going on at the time. A lot of these things could have changed the
way the American dream was seen in the eyes of Americans; and people around the world. One of the
most important things that we have in our world today was invented. The internet was created, and the
creation of the internet is one of the biggest reasons why the American dream might be seen
differently today. There were many assassination attempts on some very important people during the
1980s. President Ronald Reagan was punctured in his lung by a bullet and almost died. There was also
an assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II. He got shot in the chest while in his jeep, but he ended
up surviving. There were also some very important people in the 1980s that were not as lucky as
Ronald Reagan and Pope John II. John Lennon, who was once a Beatle, was killed by a crazed fan in

taxes so that people could keep more of what they earned. This would make people work harder and
longer. Also, it would lead to more people saving and investing. He was trying to fix all the negative
things that happened in the 1970s like the trade deficits and the horrible fiscal policy Jimmy Carter
made. Ronald Reagan s ideas helped the country a lot and really helped make the idea of the American
dream easier to achieve. The American dream was influenced by a great number of things in the
1980s. Celebrities dying from a disease is not something common and really shifted the way people
thought about America. With that being said the American Dream still holds true. People from all over

Chemicals and Pesticides Found in the Great Lakes Essay
The chemicals found in water can be dangerous toward our health. We live near the Great Lakes
which supplies 20% of the World s fresh water. It also has chemicals that threaten the life evolving
around the fresh water. There are medical drugs that are being introduced to the fresh water lakes.
Stuff like antibiotics and steroids. These pharmaceuticals are posing danger for the environment. This
could affect the lake life,s growth. Pesticides are also found in the Great Lakes. These pesticides are

Analysis Of Nathaniel Bacon s The Name Of The People
In Bacon s Declaration in the Name of the People , Nathaniel Bacon lists every major offense of Sir
William Berkeley, many of which collide with one another to display how the governor s actions and
inactions built upon each other to create turmoil for the people of Virginia. However, Berkeley
defends himself and proclaims Bacon a traitor in, The Declaration and Remonstrance of Sir William
Berkeley his most sacred Majesties Governor and Captain Generall of Virginia . In order to gain the
king s favor, both men write separate declarations, but one has everything to lose while the other has
everything to gain.
The first of the offenses listed by Bacon is the demanding of unjust taxes which are not being used to
better the colony at least not for the underclass; thus, Berkeley has also been accused of abusing his
power as governor. With the purpose of monetary gain, Bacon applies for a trading license but is
denied by Berkeley and the council, which consists of many of Berkeley s cronies. This leads Bacon
to make the allegation that Berkeley has made a monopoly of the beaver trade which is true but
Berkeley only denied Bacon s request because he knew Bacon wanted more power and where there is
money, there is power.
In the midst of the two men s quarreling, the lower classes of Virginia are demanding land. They begin
to migrate to Indian Territory and are consequently murdered by the Indians. Though there is an army
at his command, Berkeley does not use them against the

Quarterly continue to find and report new ways to use MIS to achieve business objectives.
Better Planning and Control:
MIS has to be designed and managed in such way that it aggregates information, monitors the
company s activities and operations and enhances communication and collaboration among employees
(Obrien). This ensures better planning for all activities and better ways to measure performance,
manage resources and facilitate compliance with industry and government regulations. Control helps
in forecasting, preparing accurate budgets and providing the tools and vital information to employees,
top management and business partners.
Core Competencies:
Every market leading enterprise will have at least one core competency that is, a function they
perform better than their competition. By building an exceptional management information system
into the enterprise it is possible to push out ahead of the competition. MIS systems provide the tools
necessary to gain a better understanding of the market as well as a better understanding of the
enterprise itself.
Enhance Supply Chain Management:
Improved reporting of business processes leads inevitably to a more streamlined production process.
With better information on the production process, comes the ability to improve the management of

The Importance Of Hard Work In The Short Story Hollywood
The only important thing in life is hard work (Gilb 483). In the short, story Hollywood By Dagoberto

There are conflicts between each other and others act on the beach. They see things differently than

lower class. However, Luis has exceptions, for Ramon on the importance of hard work. Luis shows
irony of unforeseen difference, lack of agreement, truth, and expectation of hard work.
The sun s out. , It s still cold. As Luis and his wife Marta Mention (Gilb 482). The sand was moist, the
air cool, the ocean as gentle as a bay (Gilb 482). They have the whole beach to themselves, because it

scornful, and miserable. Luis controls everything the family ensures, and Marta learned, long ago you
could not argue with Luis. If they worked like us they wouldn t have to run, Luis said of the joggers.
At least they move to keep warm, Marta shot back (Gilb482). Luis and Marta have been frustrated
with each other since they have arrived at the Santa Monica beach. Luis and his family are lower
class, therefore, did not have the funds for a new blanket, Disneyland, or buying hotdogs on the beach.
She lay down on the old blanket she d never convinced him to replace, draped sweater oversell, and

Tropical Cyclone Essay

A tropical cyclone is a force of Mother Nature that in most cases can leave towns and cities extremely
devastated from the destruction. Tropical Cyclones are storms that spin in a clockwise direction and
have low pressure midpoints. In order for a Tropical Cyclone to form there are two main variables, the
earth s revolution and heat. As the ocean reaches at least 27°C, the water then begins to evaporate
creating a storm cloud. The greatest factor being the rotation of the earth, forces the storm to begin
spinning and to move in a forward direction. The centre of the storm is called The Eye ; this is where
it is completely still. There is system in place to categorized using the Australian tropical cyclone
intensity scale.

Hills Like White Elephant Figurative Language
Ernest Hemingway, the author of Hills like White Elephants will leave his readers guessing due to his
vague information put into his short story, ¨Hills like White Elephants¨. The understanding of
figurative language, sensory details, and the use inferencing skills are needed to interpret what the
author is trying to get across. If the short story is analyzed carefully the reader will understand that the
couple in the story are deciding whether or not to have an abortion. Although abortion is never
blatantly said it is shown through prolific figurative language. Symbolism, simile, and conflict are all
prominent examples of figurative language throughout Hemingway s Hills like White Elephant .

Traditionally, a white elephant is a useless possession that is more times than not, unwanted. In today s
world we see white elephant gift exchanges where people will exchange unwanted gifts to one
another, usually popular among work colleagues or family gatherings. In Hills like White Elephants
the white elephant is the baby that Jig is unexpectedly carrying. Even though the couple is in love
neither the man nor the girl can decide what to do with the child the are expecting. The baby would
indeed be a gift, but it would also be a burden, this can be discovered when the man states that We ll
be fine afterward. Just like we were before (Hemingway 476). The man obviously believes that if they
decide to keep the baby then it will prevent them from doing things they want to continue doing, and
that is clear because he continues to badger Jig about the situation they are in that it made Jig beg the
man to stop, she pleads, Would you please please please please please please please stop talking?
(478). By this it is clear that Jig is truly concerned about the situation that affects her life and just
wants to stop talking about everything. It is clear that the american man does not want to have the
baby, the man has therefore treated Jig s pregnancy like a burden or an illness (Rankin 236).

Gender Stereotypes in Othello Essay
Stereotypes are commonly held generalized beliefs that most or all individuals sharing a given trait
also should or do share other attributes assumed to be associated with aspects such as race, religion,
and physical attribute. While stereotypes can erroneously shape people s views of others, they can also
influence the stereotyped individuals behavior as people often attempt to conform to these flawed
images, especially in regards to gender stereotypes. Shakespeare s great play Othello uses its main
characters to embody the characteristics of the stereotypical females and males according to society s
liking. The stereotypical woman is loyal and faithful to her husband, while the male stereotype
possesses strength, control, and dominance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare mocks society s extreme measures by suggesting death as the sole option for Othello
when he fails to understand that Desdemona may not fit female stereotypes. Without the ability to
label her, Othello fails to assert Desdemona s chastity and corruptibility simultaneously and murders
Desdemona to redeem her from degradation (Neely). The characters, like many people, struggle to
alter views that have been so firmly pressed into their minds. In this way, Shakespeare negatively
comments on humans inabilities to see beyond what society tells them and to comprehend truths
unique to a specific person rather than his gender roles. Shakespeare uses the characters Desdemona
and Othello to display how people become accustomed to the gender identities that society defines for
them. Therefore, both characters, as depicted by their deaths, fail to understand each other personally
as individuals instead of as the stereotypical man or woman that is being presented.
Although misperceptions about the other gender are dangerous causes of downfall, flawed views
among one s own gender are also great contributors to destruction. Othello and Desdemona best
exemplify this notion. Desdemona presents herself as pure, compassionate, and understanding towards
everyone, especially Othello. Shakespeare theorizes on how some women believe the stereotype about
females is valid and must be followed, and men can exhibit the same

The Pros And Cons Of The Olympics
About 206 countries in the world participate in the Olympics. Can you imagine the Olympic games in

Olympics from traveling from country to country. The only solution to stop this; keep the Olympics
moving around country to country. The Olympics should not have a permanent home and should
continue to move around the world. Having them in a permanent home takes away more than you

Stereotypes In The New Catacomb Short Story
There are many misconceptions about archaeology. Some misconceptions stem from the stereotypes
popularized in media while others come from the simple lack of knowledge about archaeology. For
example, many people do not know that anthropology is the study of humans, since archaeologists are
widely associated with excavations it is common to confuse archaeology with paleontology, which has
to do with the study of ancient life excluding human beings and closely related ancestors. Some
popular stereotypes associated with archaeology are that archaeologists are generally old men or that it
is a man s type of work, that archaeologists are overly obsessed with their work, and that archaeology
is exceedingly dangerous. The short story The New Catacomb by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle helps
reinforce these stereotypes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Field Of American Studies
In this essay, I will examine the field of American Studies and attempt to explain its ever changing
definition. I will take the reader through the origins of American Studies and describe the events that
led to changes in the discipline.
The scholars in American Studies are constantly seeking to understand the practices by individuals
and groups and their history of origin. Scholars struggle to understand how values and beliefs shape
social and political realities within the U.S. and other countries. American Studies is an
interdisciplinary study that explores cultures of the United States as well as their transnational
exchanges and impact.
In the words of Staurt Hall, he finds in American culture and in America s capacity to live with
difference the best illustration of a continuous dialect between the local and the global, between the
insular and the transnational. He defines culture as an embodiment of the best that has been thought
and said in a society. It is the sum of the great ideas as represented in the classic works of painting,
music, and philosophy that represent culture. (Hall, 9) Hall also has observed U.S. dominance in
communication and described America as the common factor of globalization.
The field of American Studies began in what may be called a single beginning with multiple origins.
The beginning of the American Studies Association in late 1951 and early 1952 and the beginning of
the journal, American Quarterly at the University of Minnesota in

What Is The Nature Of A White Heron
Although A White Heron is such a short story it says so much about America and some of the ideals
that were held at the same time this was written/set, it embodies the purity and innocence of a new

of what is happening in the world but it still embodies those qualities. It encompasses not only the
beauty and hope that Sylvia discovers while searching for the white heron, but also the strength and
determination that she gains through saving the herons from the hunter. America is a beautiful and
hopeful nation, but it s also strong and determined to protect what is right and good. Sylvia at her core
is the epitome of America itself; young, adventurous, and full of spirit.
The tree seemed to lengthen itself out as she went up, and to reach farther and farther upward. It was
like a great main mast to the voyaging earth; it must truly have been amazed that morning through all
its ponderous frame as it felt this determined spark of human spirit winding its way from higher
branch to branch. The first line talks about a tree stretching itself out, growing. Which is what America
was doing. Like Sylvia and the tree, the country was growing, becoming its own being by expanding
westward and developing the Frontier. Next is the voyaging Earth. A voyage typically means a long
journey, a quest to find something new, like the West. Like how Sylvia takes a journey within

Traditions in The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson Essay
Shirley Jackson s story, The Lottery is about a group of towns people who meet every year on the 27th
of June. On this day a stoning takes place, as it washes away the sins of everyone that lived in the
village. However, should the tradition of the stoning be changed when it becomes your time?
On this day every year the people of the village began to gather in the square, around ten o clock
(Jackson) to prepare for the stoning. This event would take about two hours as there were only about
three hundred people (Jackson). Men, women and children participated in this tradition of stoning. It
was a very simple plan as to who would be stoned to death. It consisted on the exact number of people
in the village as to how many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the box to see who had received the black dot.
The village people became anxious, as they wanted to known who received the paper with the black

permitted enough time to draw from the box. The people of the village began telling Mrs. Hutchinson
that everything was done correctly and to be a good sport (Jackson). Mr. Summers asked Mr.
Hutchinson how many people were in his family. Mr. Hutchinson answered with the number five. Mr.
Summers then took four pieces of blank paper and the one paper with the black dot on it, and placed
the five pieces of paper back into the black box (Jackson). The Hutchinson family would have to do

American Liberal Democracy
From a political perspective or more specifically the Democratic side of the American Liberal
Democracy, we can also find examples showing that the USA did not show favourable behaviour
towards its practice of Liberalism. A law can be created, passed or vetoed by three different arms of
the government: the president, the House of Representatives and the Senate.
At first sight it seems like this organisation of power is in correlation with Democracy. Nevertheless
because different political parties rules those three arms of government, this coalition has blocked the
resolution of certain conflict or issues regardless of the people s opinion.

The United States Health Care Policy
Introduction
Every nation holds multitudes of health care policy facing debate. Analyzing the strengths and
weaknesses of other countries could benefit the United States of America to create improvements. For
decades, the right to health care in the United States has fueled public debates and social conversation.
Should we implement the right similar to European policies? The United States struggles in agreement
to start making changes, but we can develop plans from successes seen in Italy. Italy has achieved cost
containment and patient coverage, which are two of the largest struggles within the United States
health care system. This paper will outline Italian structure and policies to aid in the process of
formulating a plan for positive changes by describing the following: finances and structure of Italian
health care, disparities seen within Italian health care offered, the overall structure of the United States
health care system and conclusion of suggestions to better our health care system.
Italian Financial and Organization of Health care
Italian health care, Servizio Sanitario Nazional (SSN), provides universal coverage to all citizens and
immigrants if government forms are completed entirely showing financial need or previous payment
towards a European Union health care system; although, undocumented immigrants desiring health
care resources need to understand where and how to fill out forms in Italian just for medical cards for

Comparing Aquinas, And Paley s Natural Theology
A watch embodies all appearances of intelligent design. It has purpose, a certain disposition or
instruction. It is a complex object; all parts are needed for it to fulfil its purpose and we could not
substitute any of these parts. It is made of a specific set of materials; we do not find smelted gold or
blown glass naturally occurring in nature. The watch also has a regular motion. All these properties
and dispositions a watch personifies show it is a creation and not just a naturally occurring object. The
same is said about the human eye through analogy. This is the reason William Paley chose to use the
watch as well as the human eye to highlight his argument for design in his work Natural Theology,
(1802). The teleological argument he puts forth is one we can know empirically through observation.
It is not the purpose of the argument to fully convince us that the argument is correct in every way.
The purpose is to offer the audience a logical and suggestible conclusion. However the argument ...

He argues that what we see within nature always acts towards an end. He goes on to explain things in
nature achieve their end, not fortuitously but designedly Although the end things achieve may not be
seen as purpose it can be a cause for acting in a certain way.
This is where the idea of creating objects to fulfill purposes becomes blurred. A reasonable
comparison would be to fill up a glass with water and then have the water amazed at the fact the glass
has been made to fit it perfectly, when in fact it could be no other way. This is an example of a weak
anthropic argument. If such a thing as the universe was different in any of way we would not be
around to know about it. We are left to inhabit the only known universe able to exist. Maybe it is the
human race which has adapted for the universe, not the other way around, as the human eye has been

Lord Of The Flies Lomb Song Analysis
This song depicts how the boys felt when they first arrived at the island. They saw that there were no
adults and were excited about all the fun they were planning to have together and without parental
supervision. The song paints an island in a positive light saying that it s a paradise, just like the boy s
original fantasies.
Welcome to the Jungle Guns and Roses
This song relates to Lord of the Flies by showing how the boys slowly became more and more like
animals. In the beginning, things were great. The boys had fun, swam, and ate fruit under Ralph s
leadership. But as Jack s obsession with hunting became unmanageable and he replaced himself as the
new leader of the new tribe , the boys became more and more savage. This chaos and destructive
behavior is modeled in Welcome to the Jungle by lyrics such as welcome to the jungle, it gets worse
here everyday, Ya learn to act like an animal.
Mob song Beauty and the Beast
The mob song from the movie Beauty and the Beast is very similar to the boys ritualistic hunting
dance. They both have a leader Gaston/Jack who urge on the mob to kill the beast.
Gaston and Jack understand that fear can perpetuate a mob mentality that is easily controlled through
a form of frightened excitement and through the absence of light. That is why both Simon and Piggy
both died at the hand of the tribe. The Mob Song uses imagery of darkness and shadow, much like the
novel and both a fueled by a frenzied excitement from the mobs.
Ralph A character Sketch
One of the main characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph is one of the oldest bigguns on the island. His
good looks and confident demeanor quickly makes him the obvious leader to the boys. Although he
lacks Piggy s apparent intelligence, Ralph is relatively logical and responsible, with sound judgment
and a firm moral scale. But, like the other boys, he can fall into the same entraping instincts that affect
the other boys, as demonstrated by his part Simon s murder.
Regardless, Ralph remains the most civilized character throughout the novel, save for Piggy. At the
end of the novel, it was somewhat tragic because Ralph finally understands that evil lives inside of all
the boys. This leaves him depressed

Privacy And National Security In George Orwell s 1984
It has been more than seventy years since the release of George Orwell s 1984, a novel that imparts a
lesson on the consequences of government overreach. However, today that novel reads like an exposé
of government surveillance. Privacy and national security are two ideas competing for value on a
balance; if one is more highly valued, the other carries less weight. Government desire to bolster
national security by spying on its own citizens even the law abiding ones is what leads to the inverse
relationship between civil liberties and security. In times of a perceived threat to the nation, national
security becomes highly prized and people lose privacy. One case is terrorist attacks. 9/11 caused an
understandable kneejerk reaction in Americans to bolster protection. Some of the the measures taken
were observable, like greater security at airports, but others attempted to increase national security in a
more intrusive way. Privacy should be more highly valued than national security, and America has
reached a point where that is no longer true.
Legally speaking, the constitution and the Supreme Court prizes privacy, not surveillance in the name
of security. The Fourth Amendment gives us the right to be free of unreasonable search and seizure. In
1890, the Supreme Court decided that this amendment also implied the right to be left alone. Under
the Fourth Amendment, a warrant needs to be obtained before people can be searched, and to obtain
the warrant, evidence proving

The Moral Dilemma Of Children
For nine long, gestational months, a mother to be is seen as the carrier of the future. The ultimate
protector that should want to do any and everything possible to ensure that her baby has the best
opportunity for life. Being a guardian the child is her moral obligation to it because it cannot take care
of itself. So, what happens if she chooses to put her life over the child s and consume drugs while
pregnant? There will be those that will support the mother whatever path she takes, and surely those
that will think of the mother as ethically unsound. Seana Shiffrin and her Wrongful Life paper strongly
advocates a mother s responsibility to the fetus to do everything in her power to ensure that her future
child has the best life possible. Though her context is within the realm of congenital disability and
choosing to have it despite the moral dilemma, it does applies to the culpability of drug using mothers.
Shiffrin believes that people do not look at child birth done haphazardly as something a mother is
accountable for. However, Shiffrin believes that those who acted negligently or worse toward the
foreseeable burdens their children would incur should be liable (Shiffrin,135). I believe that in the
case of criminality, She would view mothers with a drug addiction as those that should be held legally
accountable for their abuses due to the harmful effects it could have on the fetus in the future. Many
argue that even though a child is born with some form of defect,

The Poetry Of Gwendolyn Brooks s Poetry
Poetry is a universal language that can be read and interpreted in many different ways. The versatility
of poetry is part of what has made it so prevalent and popular for thousands of years. Writing is an
outlet of feelings or emotions for many poets and usually includes some controversial meaning or
theme that the poet can relate to. For example, Gwendolyn Brooks filled her poems with ambiguity,
making her work controversial yet popular during the era. Brooks used the stigma of racism and racial
issues during her lifetime to drive the meaning of her poems. In doing so, she popularized her own
work, making a name for herself, creating new opportunities that could have been hard to acquire as a
black woman. Although many have argued that Gwendolyn Brooks wrote in a style that was majorly
controversial, she thrived as a poet from the young age of 13 and her passion continued to bring her
success through poems like We Real Cool and a song in the front yard, eventually providing her with
opportunities to hold superior positions in the poetry community and even receiving multiple honors
and rewards. Gwendolyn Brooks was a poet who rose to fame during the early 20th century. She was
born in Topeka, Kansas, and grew up in the popular city of Chicago, Illinois. Brooks had a relatively
quiet childhood. Both of her parents were present in her life, and she attended school everyday like a
normal child would. However, Brooks faced some struggles in school that could possibly be

Planned Parenthood Case Summary
Introduction
With repeated threats from Congress to defund Planned Parenthood and multiple states passing
restrictive laws, reproductive rights and abortion in particular continue to be increasingly under attack
in the United States. In 1973, the Supreme Court ruled in Roe v. Wade that a woman s choice whether
to have an abortion is protected by her right to privacy and that any restrictions on that right must be
under strict scrutiny. This means that by law, women have the right to get abortions without facing
unnecessary restrictions. According to Roe v. Wade, the only time the government could enforce
restrictions on this right was when there is a compelling state interest to do so.
Nearly two decades later, the decision of Planned Parenthood of Southeastern ... Show more content

This case will decide whether strict abortion laws in the state of Texas are constitutional or not. The
challengers to these laws argue they place an undue burden on women seeking abortion, which goes
against the decision of Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
States all over the country enforce strict laws on women seeking abortions, but Texas has some of the
toughest restrictions. Texas only has six clinics that meet these tough restrictions, which means some
women would have to travel hundreds of miles just to get an abortion. In addition, 28 states require
women seeking abortions to wait for at least 24 hours and up to 72 hours after receiving counseling to
actually get the abortion. According to the Guttmacher Institute, these waiting periods effectively
require the woman make two separate trips to the clinic to obtain the procedure in 14 states.
Although the Supreme Court will rule on the Texas laws soon, passing a bill in Congress to make it
illegal for federal, state, and local governments to restrict a woman s right to abortion would once and
for all protect a woman s privacy and right to

The World Of Yesterday, By Anthea Bell
Stefan Zweig s The World of Yesterday originally published in 1942 and translated into English in
2009 by Anthea Bell is a perceptive memoir that skillfully recounts the life of Zweig (a Jewish middle
class male) beginning with his childhood in Vienna, Austria pre World War I and ends right before
Zweig s suicide in 1942. During his account, Zweig provides critical commentary on various historical
events that is invaluable when it comes to putting these events in the context of the everyday life of
the individuals living through them. He also provides accounts of many societal structures as well as
of interesting individuals that are not necessarily important in the grand scheme of things but help the
reader build a more complete picture of the period. Throughout the book, Zweig maintains a
cautionary as well as a didactic tone that attempts to caution the reader about how society can change
so drastically and rapidly. Overall, Zweig s book is an excellent memoir that helps put major historical
events into context; however, the book also has some problems that undermine the delivery of the
cautionary message of the book. This book is a memoir by Stefan Zweig that recounts his life and
critically analyses some of the major world events that Zweig lived through. The setting at the
beginning of the book is Vienna, Austria in the Pre World I years, by the end of the book the setting

Canadian Drug Coverage
Addressing Gaps in Canadian Drug Coverage
According to Morgan and Boothe (2016), Canada s medicare system is the only one among developed
countries that has universal public health insurance but does not also have universal prescription drug
coverage. The amount of out of pocket (OOP) spending is an immense burden for many Canadians,
accounting for 34.3% of private expenditures, (Hennessey et al., 2016); and in Ontario, one in three
people do not have employer provided health insurance (Barnes Anderson, 2015). Moreover, cost
related non adherence to prescription drugs is associated with low income households , which may
lead to poorer avoidable outcomes such as: increasing hospital admissions, worsening disease, and
growing overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients that are unable to follow prescriptions as ordered, related to lack of coverage, escalate stress
on the health care system; increasing physician and emergency department visits, which may have
been avoidable if the medications were covered for all Canadians (Lexchin, 2017). There are various
socio political barriers to implementing a universal drug coverage plan in Canada. Primarily, the
federal government s Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB), controls prescription and
non prescription prices by making comparisons of across seven selected Organization of Economic Co
Operation and Development (OECD) countries (Tang, Ghali, Manns, 2014). However, these OECD
comparative countries have higher medication prices. In fact, four of the seven OECD countries have
the most expensive prices worldwide; consequently increasing Canadian prescription pricing.
According to Morgan and Boothe (2016), another barrier to universal drug coverage in Canada stems
from pharmacare s initially low place on the policy agenda (p. 249). Healthy public policy
development requires synergy between the public, policy makers, and institutions alike. If universal
drug coverage has less attention than other health policy debates a political change is less likely to
occur (p. 251).

How Does External Factors Affect A Business Model
External Factors External factors of demand influence the design of successful business models.
Market forces such as customer needs and customer demand are the foundation of successful business
models (Osterwalder Pigneur, 2010). If a business does not address the needs and demands of a
customer there is a limited need for the business to exist. Additionally, businesses must identify the
price customers are willing to pay for a product and which customer segments represent the greatest
growth potential (Osterwalder Pigneur, 2010). Key trends, such as technological innovation, have
played an increasingly important role in successful business models. The rise of information systems
and new advances in technology have been an important external factor, which business models must
address (Hedman Kalling, 2003). Business model that are unable to adapt to changes in technology
must be changed through innovation or the underlying business will not be successful. Successful
business models must address and adapt to a variety of external factors. Customer preferences, new
technologies, regulatory trends, and competitors are all external factors which must be addressed by
successful business models (Osterwalder Pigneur, 2010). External factors of demand play a significant
role in successful business models. For example, with Business models are designed to fit certain
business environments and markets (Osterwalder Pigneur, 2010).
Business Model Design and Innovation Business model innovations have changed entire industries.
Business model innovation occurs when original business model designs are challenged and
unsatisfied, new, or hidden customer needs are met through an entirely new value proposition
(Osterwalder Pigneur, 2010). Firms must have strategic agility if they wish to be able to transform
their business models and pursue innovation (Chesbrough, 2010). When Apple introduced the iPod
and the iTunes store in 2003, it revolutionized portable entertainment, created a new market, and
redefined Apple as a company (Johnson, Christensen, Kagermann, 2008). Apple s iPod was not the

John Of Gaunt Research Paper
John of Gaunt was born in 1340 during a time of great strife, to King Edward III of England and his
wife, Phillippa (Walker). He was raised in the household of his elder brother, Edward, Prince of Wales,
and introduced into military life quite early (Walker). He was brought up as a prince should be as well
as being groomed as a military man quite early in life well. His first sign of nobility, besides his
multiple titles, was his investiture as a knight of the Garter in April 1361 (Walker). Shortly after this
appointment, he married Blanche of Lancaster, a wealthy heiress of another English nobleman. This
fact is important because it connects Geoffrey Chaucer to his rich patron, John of Gaunt, and Blanche

His marriage had granted him considerable amounts of land, and he inherited the prestigious title
Duke of Lancaster when his father in law died (Walker). Blanche of Lancaster died in 1369
(Buescher), leaving Gaunt to marry his second wife, Constance of Castile. She was the daughter of
King Pedro of Spain, making her a princess in her own right. Upon their marriage, Gaunt became
King of Castile and Leon (Buescher). After these two marriages, Gaunt found himself even more rich
and powerful. After recognizing the failing health of his father, the king, and his brother, the Prince of
Wales, he was made the king s captain and lieutenant (Marks). After his father and brother died, his 11
year old nephew, Richard, took the throne of England (Marks). Through this, he again had immense
power and strength behind the crown. After his son deposed Richard II, John became even more
powerful, now the father of the King of England. He proved to be an excellent military and political
force, acting as a king behind the scenes , particularly for his young nephew Richard II. However,
during the English Peasant s Revolt in 1381, John of Gaunt lost some favor with the English people
and his nephew. Gaunt is generally regarded as the person common people chiefly blamed

Nurses Are Constantly Facing Health Risks
Nurses are constantly facing health risks every day they are at work. I feel as a student with goals set
to become a nurse I should be fully aware of all the things that could potentially go wrong. I want to
make sure I am knowledgeable about the nursing field, because I never would have thought injuries
happen as often in the field of nursing today compared to decades ago when there was less machinery.
The Department of Labor s Bureau of Statistics (BLS) explains that surveys show 35,000 back injuries
happen every year among nurses and are severe enough to prevent going to work (Zwerdling, par. 9).
Zwerdling writes about a nurse getting injured on the job while lifting an overweight patient. She
damaged a disk in her spine while lifting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She later found out the popping noise she heard further damaged her spine (par. 2). Back injuries are
the most common injuries among nurses. Nursing employees get their back injuries from the number
one cause of lifting their patients. The article explains how lifting a patient is harmful no matter what
way it is performed. These injuries prevent young nurses from continuing their career (Zwerdling par,
13).
A nurse is susceptible to musculoskeletal injuries which can affect them physically and mentally.
Musculoskeletal injuries are injuries affecting the body s movement (Gropelli 297). An example is
back injuries, happening in roughly 52% of nurses (Gropelli 297). Back injuries are one of the most
important injuries to be careful of. Nurses are being restricted by injuries causing them to be pushed
out of work. It affects them mentally, because they can easily become stressed out about not being
able to work which leads to loss of money. Musculoskeletal injuries severely affect nurses and the
hospitals. The hospital is affected, because they are losing their staff due to all of these injuries that
could be prevented (Gropelli 301).
Because of these injuries and risks, younger nurses must leave the field well before retirement, which
will lead to a nursing shortage. The older nurses, which make up 51% of all nurses, are at a higher risk
of injury due to lack of updated training and physical limitations. According to Patricia Finch

1905 Revolution Essay
1905 Revolution These days we call anything a revolution… [1] To decide whether or not any event is
a revolution I must first set some parameters to define my personal idea of what a revolution is. I
believe a revolution to be a radical change of anything, not just political. I believe this as from history
labelling the Renaissance as a revolution, yet it lacked political change. In my opinion hindsight is
very important to whether or not something is a revolution. I think you can only decide if something
was revolutionary if you can see its consequences. I do not think revolutionary thought is essential to
whether or not an event is a revolution. To discover whether or not 1905 was a ... Show more content

This resulted in a generalised feeling of resentment towards the Tsar even amongst his supporters. The
political unrest was present through the survival of a poor Minister of the Interior, Viacheslav von
Plehve, until 1904 when he was assassinated. This was the Tsar s chance to quell the political unrest.
He chose a new minister in Prince Sviatopolk Mirskii. However, he had political innocence [3] and
promised vague reform. Basically he was weak and this weakness annoyed both wings of the political
spectrum sustaining the political unrest throughout 1905. Economical unrest is best shown through the
peasants. They were heavy under the weight of redemption payments and oppressive taxes and their
economic unrest was definitely evident preceding 1905, and throughout 1905 they vented their anger.
The ferment in the countryside grew in a menacing way [4], is a good quote describing their
movements as the word menacing seems to suggest they were very dangerous and seems to have
connotations supporting the large numbers that there were. The word ferment supports the fact it
peasant unrest had been building up. One major achievement I can see from the peasant uprisings was
that they were organised by themselves, demonstrating their own political thought and this was
cemented in July of the year when the

Gender Roles in Alice Munro s Boys and Girls
In Alice Munro s short story Boys and Girls, our narrator is a young farm girl on the verge of puberty
who is learning what it means to be a girl. The story shows the differing gender roles of boys and girls
specifically that women are the weaker, more emotional sex by showing how the adults of the story
expect the children to grow into their respective roles as a girl and a boy, and how the children grow
up and ultimately begin to fulfill these roles, making the transition from being children to being young
adults.
The adults in the story expect the children to grow into the gender role that their sex has assigned to
them. This is seen in several places throughout the story, such as when the narrator hears her mother ...

Neither child has an interest in the work of their parent of the same gender; Laird runs off to play
instead of helping with the foxes, and the narrator escapes from the kitchen the first chance she gets
(Munro 495). Later in the story, however, Laird begins to take an interest in the men s work of hunting
and killing the horse, and the narrator, while not yet embracing the work of her mother, is disengaging
herself from her father s work and turning toward the more feminine work of decorating her room.
Neither of them sing songs anymore, even though the narrator continued to enjoy it, Laird said it
sounded silly, so she stopped (Munro 501); this is an example of both Laird becoming more
masculine, because he no longer wants to take part in frivolous things such as singing Jingle Bells at
night, and the narrator becoming more feminine, because she so easily bows to her brother s opinion.
Laird has started to accept the role of leader instead of just being young and obedient, (Munro 499)
and the narrator is taking other people s opinions into consideration when deciding her actions, instead
of just doing whatever she wants to do.
From the beginning to the end of the story, the narrator undergoes a transformation from a child of the
farm to a young woman. From my perspective, she does not start out as particularly masculine; she is
more of a blank slate that is trying to rebel against what she views as

The Effects Of Sludge Sewage On The Waste Water Treatment
The usefulness of sludge sewage also known as bio solids in the environment can t be
overemphasized. According to Renner, millions of tons of sewage sludge is produced each year[1].
Land filling, incineration and land application are the possible options for the disposal of the bio solids
resulting from the waste water treatment. Approximately six million tons of treated sludge produced
annually in the U.S is applied to the farmland[6]. This method of disposal is favored above the other
methods because it is used as a form of amendment for the purpose of improving the condition of the
soil. The treated sewage sludge or bio solid is rich in nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus and
organic content which make it useful as fertilizers to stimulate the growth of plants as well as enhance
and maintain productive soils[5]. In addition to the nutrients contained in the bio solids, there is also
the presence of a multitude of metals, contaminants and pathogens. This caused the issue of the bio
solids application in the agricultural lands to be a disputatious issue globally right from the time the
Clean Water regulations were enacted since the late 1980 s[1]. Sewage sludge or Bio solids are the
byproducts of domestic and industrial waste water treatment processes. According to Title 40 of the
Code of Federal Regulations, Part 503, sewage sludge is regarded as the solid, semi solid or liquid
remains that results from the treatment of sewage produced industrially and

Tangerines is a movie about finding humanity and respect during a time of ethnic conflict. Ethnicity is
the major focus of this film, with the smaller scale hatred and resentment between the Chechen Ahmed

No matter how much you believe in justice or equality or anything else, as long as you don t actively follow that compass, you can t honestly call yourself a good person. In fact, that might even make you worse; you know something is wrong but you do it anyway. On one hand, I like to think that I believe in truth, justice and the equality of all God s children, but in reality, even if I do believe this, I don t change my actions to fit my own code. Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it s not necessarily the utmost condemnable thing a person can do, it is a more accessible evil. Most people I know don t commit murder or other grand crimes, but I d venture to say most people I know lie. Ever since I was young, I always felt that lying was so deeply wrong, purposefully deceiving the people around you. As long as I remember, I would feel so ashamed whenever I lied, but on the ... The goal of this framework is not only to reduce the number of lives lost as a result of various disasters but also to reduce the economic, social and environmental losses to communities. Nurses and midwives are viewed by WHO (2007) as being essential in response to a disaster, but also notes that the lack of training provided for dealing with disasters as a major flaw in the disaster and emergency response worldwide. Therefore, it is essential that all nurses and midwives are trained in disaster nursing and meet these competencies just like any other competencies they are required to meet, in order to be effective when disaster strikes. Geebie and Qureshi (2002) explain how they believe that disaster nursing requires individuals to use their nursing knowledge and skills in difficult situations with limited resources and ever changing conditions. During these difficult times it is essential that nurses can adapt their practice to be disaster specific in order to minimise life threatening damage and health hazards caused by the disaster. Jennings Sanders, Frisch amp; Wing (2005) demonstrate that nurses, other healthcare professionals, emergency services, and both non governmental and governmental organizations must work in collaboration during these situations in order for the best outcome to prevail. Gender Stereotypes in Othello Essay Stereotypes are commonly held generalized beliefs that most or all individuals sharing a given trait also should or do share other attributes assumed to be associated with aspects such as race, religion, and physical attribute. While stereotypes can erroneously shape people s views of others, they can also influence the stereotyped individuals behavior as people often attempt to conform to these flawed images, especially in regards to gender stereotypes. The stereotypical woman is loyal and faithful to her husband, while the male stereotype possesses strength, control, and dominance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shakespeare mocks society s extreme measures by suggesting death as the sole option for Othello when he fails to understand that Desdemona may not fit female stereotypes. Without the ability to label her, Othello fails to assert Desdemona s chastity and corruptibility simultaneously and murders Desdemona to redeem her from degradation (Neely). The characters, like many people, struggle to alter views that have been so firmly pressed into their minds. In this way, Shakespeare negatively comments on humans inabilities to see beyond what society tells them and to comprehend truths unique to a specific person rather than his gender roles. Shakespeare uses the characters Desdemona and Othello to display how people become accustomed to the gender identities that society defines for them. Therefore, both characters, as depicted by their deaths, fail to understand each other personally as individuals instead of as the stereotypical man or woman that is being presented. Although misperceptions about the other gender are dangerous causes of downfall, flawed views among one s own gender are also great contributors to destruction. Othello and Desdemona best exemplify this notion. Desdemona presents herself as pure, compassionate, and understanding towards everyone, especially Othello. Some popular stereotypes associated with archaeology are that archaeologists are generally old men or that it is a man s type of work, that archaeologists are overly obsessed with their work, and that archaeology is exceedingly dangerous. • 20. The Field Of American Studies In this essay, I will examine the field of American Studies and attempt to explain its ever changing definition. I will take the reader through the origins of American Studies and describe the events that led to changes in the discipline. The scholars in American Studies are constantly seeking to understand the practices by individuals and groups and their history of origin. Scholars struggle to understand how values and beliefs shape social and political realities within the U.S. and other countries. American Studies is an interdisciplinary study that explores cultures of the United States as well as their transnational exchanges and impact. In the words of Staurt Hall, he finds in American culture and in America s capacity to live with difference the best illustration of a continuous dialect between the local and the global, between the insular and the transnational. He defines culture as an embodiment of the best that has been thought and said in a society. It is the sum of the great ideas as represented in the classic works of painting, music, and philosophy that represent culture. (Hall, 9) Hall also has observed U.S. dominance in communication and described America as the common factor of globalization. The field of American Studies began in what may be called a single beginning with multiple origins. The beginning of the American Studies Association in late 1951 and early 1952 and the beginning of the journal, American Quarterly at the University of Minnesota in ... • 21. What Is The Nature Of A White Heron Although A White Heron is such a short story it says so much about America and some of the ideals that were held at the same time this was written/set, it embodies the purity and innocence of a new America. The story is also a microcosm for nature and the drive for expansion; it only shows a sliver of what is happening in the world but it still embodies those qualities. It encompasses not only the beauty and hope that Sylvia discovers while searching for the white heron, but also the strength and determination that she gains through saving the herons from the hunter. America is a beautiful and hopeful nation, but it s also strong and determined to protect what is right and good. Sylvia at her core is the epitome of America itself; young, adventurous, and full of spirit. The tree seemed to lengthen itself out as she went up, and to reach farther and farther upward. It was like a great main mast to the voyaging earth; it must truly have been amazed that morning through all its ponderous frame as it felt this determined spark of human spirit winding its way from higher branch to branch. The first line talks about a tree stretching itself out, growing. Which is what America was doing. Like Sylvia and the tree, the country was growing, becoming its own being by expanding westward and developing the Frontier. Next is the voyaging Earth. It is a complex object; all parts are needed for it to fulfil its purpose and we could not substitute any of these parts. It is made of a specific set of materials; we do not find smelted gold or blown glass naturally occurring in nature. The watch also has a regular motion. All these properties and dispositions a watch personifies show it is a creation and not just a naturally occurring object. The same is said about the human eye through analogy. This is the reason William Paley chose to use the watch as well as the human eye to highlight his argument for design in his work Natural Theology, (1802). The teleological argument he puts forth is one we can know empirically through observation. It is not the purpose of the argument to fully convince us that the argument is correct in every way. • 28. Lord Of The Flies Lomb Song Analysis This song depicts how the boys felt when they first arrived at the island. They saw that there were no adults and were excited about all the fun they were planning to have together and without parental supervision. The song paints an island in a positive light saying that it s a paradise, just like the boy s original fantasies. Welcome to the Jungle Guns and Roses This song relates to Lord of the Flies by showing how the boys slowly became more and more like animals. In the beginning, things were great. The boys had fun, swam, and ate fruit under Ralph s leadership. But as Jack s obsession with hunting became unmanageable and he replaced himself as the new leader of the new tribe , the boys became more and more savage. This chaos and destructive behavior is modeled in Welcome to the Jungle by lyrics such as welcome to the jungle, it gets worse here everyday, Ya learn to act like an animal. Mob song Beauty and the Beast The mob song from the movie Beauty and the Beast is very similar to the boys ritualistic hunting dance. They both have a leader Gaston/Jack who urge on the mob to kill the beast. Gaston and Jack understand that fear can perpetuate a mob mentality that is easily controlled through a form of frightened excitement and through the absence of light. That is why both Simon and Piggy both died at the hand of the tribe. The Mob Song uses imagery of darkness and shadow, much like the novel and both a fueled by a frenzied excitement from the mobs. Ralph A character Sketch One of the main characters in Lord of the Flies, Ralph is one of the oldest bigguns on the island. His good looks and confident demeanor quickly makes him the obvious leader to the boys. Although he lacks Piggy s apparent intelligence, Ralph is relatively logical and responsible, with sound judgment and a firm moral scale. But, like the other boys, he can fall into the same entraping instincts that affect the other boys, as demonstrated by his part Simon s murder. • 29. Privacy And National Security In George Orwell s 1984 It has been more than seventy years since the release of George Orwell s 1984, a novel that imparts a lesson on the consequences of government overreach. However, today that novel reads like an exposé of government surveillance. Privacy and national security are two ideas competing for value on a balance; if one is more highly valued, the other carries less weight. Government desire to bolster national security by spying on its own citizens even the law abiding ones is what leads to the inverse relationship between civil liberties and security. In times of a perceived threat to the nation, national security becomes highly prized and people lose privacy. One case is terrorist attacks. 9/11 caused an understandable kneejerk reaction in Americans to bolster protection. Some of the the measures taken were observable, like greater security at airports, but others attempted to increase national security in a more intrusive way. Privacy should be more highly valued than national security, and America has reached a point where that is no longer true. Legally speaking, the constitution and the Supreme Court prizes privacy, not surveillance in the name of security. The Fourth Amendment gives us the right to be free of unreasonable search and seizure. In 1890, the Supreme Court decided that this amendment also implied the right to be left alone. The ultimate protector that should want to do any and everything possible to ensure that her baby has the best opportunity for life. Being a guardian the child is her moral obligation to it because it cannot take care of itself. So, what happens if she chooses to put her life over the child s and consume drugs while pregnant? There will be those that will support the mother whatever path she takes, and surely those that will think of the mother as ethically unsound. Seana Shiffrin and her Wrongful Life paper strongly advocates a mother s responsibility to the fetus to do everything in her power to ensure that her future child has the best life possible. Though her context is within the realm of congenital disability and choosing to have it despite the moral dilemma, it does applies to the culpability of drug using mothers. Shiffrin believes that people do not look at child birth done haphazardly as something a mother is accountable for. However, Shiffrin believes that those who acted negligently or worse toward the foreseeable burdens their children would incur should be liable (Shiffrin,135). • 31. The Poetry Of Gwendolyn Brooks s Poetry Poetry is a universal language that can be read and interpreted in many different ways. The versatility of poetry is part of what has made it so prevalent and popular for thousands of years. Writing is an outlet of feelings or emotions for many poets and usually includes some controversial meaning or theme that the poet can relate to. For example, Gwendolyn Brooks filled her poems with ambiguity, making her work controversial yet popular during the era. Brooks used the stigma of racism and racial issues during her lifetime to drive the meaning of her poems. In doing so, she popularized her own work, making a name for herself, creating new opportunities that could have been hard to acquire as a black woman. Although many have argued that Gwendolyn Brooks wrote in a style that was majorly controversial, she thrived as a poet from the young age of 13 and her passion continued to bring her success through poems like We Real Cool and a song in the front yard, eventually providing her with opportunities to hold superior positions in the poetry community and even receiving multiple honors and rewards. Patients that are unable to follow prescriptions as ordered, related to lack of coverage, escalate stress on the health care system; increasing physician and emergency department visits, which may have been avoidable if the medications were covered for all Canadians (Lexchin, 2017). There are various socio political barriers to implementing a universal drug coverage plan in Canada. Primarily, the federal government s Patented Medicine Prices Review Board (PMPRB), controls prescription and non prescription prices by making comparisons of across seven selected Organization of Economic Co Operation and Development (OECD) countries (Tang, Ghali, Manns, 2014). However, these OECD comparative countries have higher medication prices. • 44. Nurses Are Constantly Facing Health Risks Nurses are constantly facing health risks every day they are at work. I feel as a student with goals set to become a nurse I should be fully aware of all the things that could potentially go wrong. I want to make sure I am knowledgeable about the nursing field, because I never would have thought injuries happen as often in the field of nursing today compared to decades ago when there was less machinery. The Department of Labor s Bureau of Statistics (BLS) explains that surveys show 35,000 back injuries happen every year among nurses and are severe enough to prevent going to work (Zwerdling, par. 9). She later found out the popping noise she heard further damaged her spine (par. 2). Back injuries are the most common injuries among nurses. Nursing employees get their back injuries from the number one cause of lifting their patients. The article explains how lifting a patient is harmful no matter what way it is performed. These injuries prevent young nurses from continuing their career (Zwerdling par, 13). A nurse is susceptible to musculoskeletal injuries which can affect them physically and mentally. Musculoskeletal injuries are injuries affecting the body s movement (Gropelli 297). An example is back injuries, happening in roughly 52% of nurses (Gropelli 297). Back injuries are one of the most important injuries to be careful of. Nurses are being restricted by injuries causing them to be pushed out of work. It affects them mentally, because they can easily become stressed out about not being able to work which leads to loss of money. Musculoskeletal injuries severely affect nurses and the hospitals. The hospital is affected, because they are losing their staff due to all of these injuries that could be prevented (Gropelli 301). Because of these injuries and risks, younger nurses must leave the field well before retirement, which will lead to a nursing shortage. The older nurses, which make up 51% of all nurses, are at a higher risk of injury due to lack of updated training and physical limitations. According to Patricia Finch ... • 45. 1905 Revolution Essay 1905 Revolution These days we call anything a revolution… [1] To decide whether or not any event is a revolution I must first set some parameters to define my personal idea of what a revolution is. I believe a revolution to be a radical change of anything, not just political. I believe this as from history labelling the Renaissance as a revolution, yet it lacked political change. In my opinion hindsight is very important to whether or not something is a revolution. I think you can only decide if something was revolutionary if you can see its consequences. I do not think revolutionary thought is essential to whether or not an event is a revolution. To discover whether or not 1905 was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This resulted in a generalised feeling of resentment towards the Tsar even amongst his supporters. The political unrest was present through the survival of a poor Minister of the Interior, Viacheslav von Plehve, until 1904 when he was assassinated. This was the Tsar s chance to quell the political unrest. He chose a new minister in Prince Sviatopolk Mirskii. However, he had political innocence [3] and promised vague reform. Basically he was weak and this weakness annoyed both wings of the political spectrum sustaining the political unrest throughout 1905. Economical unrest is best shown through the peasants. They were heavy under the weight of redemption payments and oppressive taxes and their economic unrest was definitely evident preceding 1905, and throughout 1905 they vented their anger. The ferment in the countryside grew in a menacing way [4], is a good quote describing their movements as the word menacing seems to suggest they were very dangerous and seems to have connotations supporting the large numbers that there were. The word ferment supports the fact it peasant unrest had been building up. One major achievement I can see from the peasant uprisings was that they were organised by themselves, demonstrating their own political thought and this was cemented in July of the year when the ... • 46. Gender Roles in Alice Munro s Boys and Girls In Alice Munro s short story Boys and Girls, our narrator is a young farm girl on the verge of puberty who is learning what it means to be a girl. The story shows the differing gender roles of boys and girls specifically that women are the weaker, more emotional sex by showing how the adults of the story expect the children to grow into their respective roles as a girl and a boy, and how the children grow up and ultimately begin to fulfill these roles, making the transition from being children to being young adults. The adults in the story expect the children to grow into the gender role that their sex has assigned to them. Neither child has an interest in the work of their parent of the same gender; Laird runs off to play instead of helping with the foxes, and the narrator escapes from the kitchen the first chance she gets (Munro 495). Later in the story, however, Laird begins to take an interest in the men s work of hunting and killing the horse, and the narrator, while not yet embracing the work of her mother, is disengaging herself from her father s work and turning toward the more feminine work of decorating her room. Neither of them sing songs anymore, even though the narrator continued to enjoy it, Laird said it sounded silly, so she stopped (Munro 501); this is an example of both Laird becoming more masculine, because he no longer wants to take part in frivolous things such as singing Jingle Bells at night, and the narrator becoming more feminine, because she so easily bows to her brother s opinion. Laird has started to accept the role of leader instead of just being young and obedient, (Munro 499) and the narrator is taking other people s opinions into consideration when deciding her actions, instead of just doing whatever she wants to do. From the beginning to the end of the story, the narrator undergoes a transformation from a child of the farm to a young woman. From my perspective, she does not start out as particularly masculine; she is more of a blank slate that is trying to rebel against what she views as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Effects Of Sludge Sewage On The Waste Water Treatment The usefulness of sludge sewage also known as bio solids in the environment can t be overemphasized. According to Renner, millions of tons of sewage sludge is produced each year[1]. Land filling, incineration and land application are the possible options for the disposal of the bio solids resulting from the waste water treatment. Approximately six million tons of treated sludge produced annually in the U.S is applied to the farmland[6]. This method of disposal is favored above the other methods because it is used as a form of amendment for the purpose of improving the condition of the soil. The treated sewage sludge or bio solid is rich in nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus and organic content which make it useful as fertilizers to stimulate the growth of plants as well as enhance and maintain productive soils[5]. In addition to the nutrients contained in the bio solids, there is also the presence of a multitude of metals, contaminants and pathogens. This caused the issue of the bio solids application in the agricultural lands to be a disputatious issue globally right from the time the Clean Water regulations were enacted since the late 1980 s[1]. Sewage sludge or Bio solids are the byproducts of domestic and industrial waste water treatment processes. According to Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 503, sewage sludge is regarded as the solid, semi solid or liquid remains that results from the treatment of sewage produced industrially and ...
