2. STOMACH
DESCRIPTION:
- Baglike organ made of muscles, found in the upper left of the
abdomen.
- Food stays for three to four hours
FUNCTIONS:
- Digestion takes place (process of mixing, mashing, and turning
the food into soupy substance which then released to the small
intestine).
- Not all food eaten can be digested, undigested food goes to the
large intestine as waste product.
3. PART OF THE STOMACH
CARDIA – tube that connects
the stomach to the esophagus
where the food passes from the
mouth
FUNDUS – upper part of the
stomach where the food is
deposited
MAIN BODY – central part
which produces acids that aids
to digestion the food and kill
germs in the food.
4. ANTRUM – where the stomach
mixes with gastric juice
(chemicals that digest the food
received by the stomach until it
in liquid form)
PYLORUS – where the food
passes from stomach to the
intestine.
6. GASTRITIS
• Inflammation of the stomach
• CAUSE: imbalance secretion of gastric juice due to production of
too much acid in the stomach
• SYMPTOMS: pain in the center of the stomach (toward the upper
part of the abdomen), feels bloated a lot of times, nausea and
vomiting. For acute, vomit includes blood indicates severe
inflammation of the stomach lining.
• TREATMENT: Doctor prescribes medication to neutralize the acids,
acids, advised to keep a diet with not too much acid intakes
(coffee, tea, chocolates, and sour food products.)

8. ULCER
• Peptic ulcer - A sore or an opening found on the lining of the
stomach
• SYMPTOMS: loss of appetite, stomach pains (upper central part
of the abdomen), back pain, weight loss, vomiting, and nausea.
• TREATMENT: given antacids (medicine lessen the amount of acid
in the stomach and protect the lining), adult having ulcer are
advised to stop smoking, drinking alcohol, and taking aspirin and
similar medications as these substances further irritate the
sores.
