The Relationship Between Bilingual Education And...
Bilingual education involves the practice of teaching non English speaking learners in their native
language, while they are learning English. The academic content is taught in both the native language
and a secondary language. Program models for bilingual education determine the varying allotted time
for each language. It is often a complex array of school programs with different goals and objectives
for varying student populations (Bybee Henderson, 2014).
Multiculturalism, on the other hand, is the diversity of cultures; racial and religious, that exist in
society and the acceptance of customary behaviors, ways of thinking and ways of communicating
(Burdick Will Gomez, 2006). Multiculturalism is often contrasted with the concept of assimilation and
has been described as a melting pot . This paper will examine the history and current political trends
of both bilingual education and multiculturalism. The distinct aspects of, and the relationship between
bilingual education and multiculturalism will be discussed and conclude with modern day trends.
Bilingual education in the United States public school system has a long standing social and political
history that has been plagued by debates about its goals and effectiveness. The policies have typically
been informed by theory aimed at identifying the best methods to provide
English instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs), and research on bilingual education
program effectiveness. However, perceptions about

Anthrophysiology Of Stress
Stress is what happens when the body responds to a threat. When the brain feels that the body is being
threatened or the brain feels pressure the brain causes the nervous system to release stress hormones
and awakens or alarms the body to create stress. Stress can also be explained as when you are
mentally or emotionally strained or tired from difficult or very demanding tasks. Another way to
define stress is when you feel as though something or someone is making you feel like everything is
very hard to overcome. Stress can create various threats such as raising blood pressure, can cause
stomach aches, shut down the immune system or slow it down, and it can also put you in more risk or
either having a stroke or a heart attack in a later period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the body feels as though you are being approached with a challenging situation the adrenal gland
produces this hormone which then goes to the adrenal cortex and then that causes your brain to be
notified of this act of stress and causes your brain to react to it, this process with the adrenal gland can
react in just seconds. The adrenal glands are located in the area where the kidneys are they are actually
connected and after the Adrenal glands there is the adrenal cortex which is what makes the signal go
to your brain to make you feel stressed.
Adrenaline
Adrenaline is a hormone that is created in the adrenal glands especially in a condition of stress,
increasing the rate of the blood s circulation, breathing and is preparing the body or the bodies muscle
for exertion (exertion also known as preparing for a stressful or a very difficult decision or a difficult
task). Adrenaline may be also explained as an exhilarating feeling when you feel as though you are at
the edge often felt when either one is very happy, or a very stressed unreal feeling when you are very
tensed by a certain scenario.
What Causes Body Temperature to Change
There are many reasons why one s body temperature can either rise or decrease but some of the
reasons that have been searched for, they may be strange but true. One example is if you were to lie

Relationship Analysis Between Statutes and Case Law
Relationship Analysis between Statutes and Case Law
Laws against discrimination in employment were developed to provide remedies for victims of this
unfortunate form of behavior that exists in America today. The following paper provides insight into
lawsuits based on discrimination in the areas of age, religion, and disability and the statutes that
provide complainants with the ability to seek relief from discriminatory practices.

In 1966 the EEOC issued regulations that provided that employers must afford accommodation unless
it would cause a serious inconvenience to the conduct of business. In 1967, this regulation was further
refined to read undue hardship on the conduct of the employer s business. These regulations were
quickly challenged as was the EEOC authority to issue such regulations. (Foltin Standish, 2004, p. 3).
Finally, in 1972 Congress amended Title VII adding a new section 701(j), which reads as follows:
The term religion includes all aspects of religious observance and practice, as well as belief, unless an
employer demonstrates that he is unable to reasonably accommodate to an employee s or perspective
employee s religious observance or practice without undue hardship on the conduct of the employer s
business.
This still left the defining of the terminology reasonably accommodate and undue hardship to the legal
system.
Case Law – Trans World Airlines, Inc. v. Hardison
Background
In this case, Larry G. Hardison was an employee with TWA working as a clerk in the Stores
Department at its Kansas City base. This was an essential role in the Kansas City operation as the
Stores Department must operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. This was also a union operation
and Hardison was subject to a seniority system. Hardison was hired by TWA in June 1967 and in the
spring of 1968 he began to study the religion known as the Worldwide Church of God.

Examples Of Evil Deeds In The Crucible
The Crucible Can one s evil deed lead to the evil deeds of many? Some may debate whether that is
true or not. I believe so; our actions define who we are and who we will become. In Arthur Miller s
captivating play, The Crucible, he demonstrated the evil nature of greed and lust and the crucial aspect
of making good decisions. It depicts how a man named John Proctor s decision caused the terrible
misfortunes of a small town called Salem. We see how ones evil deed can be a snowballing effect
which leads to the evil deeds of many others. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller is trying to tell us how
crucial it is to make good decisions in our lives. We witness the greed and lies of a young woman
named Abigail Williams and what she does in order to get what she desires. John Proctor, the man she
had an affair with, tries to call the affair off. As a result, Abigail turned to witchcraft to try to get
Elizabeth, John s wife, dead. When the town discovered that Abigail attempted witchcraft, she tries to
divert the blame by accusing other people of witchcraft. Abigail says Tituba conjured Ruth Putnam s
dead sister (1.1223). Tituba, in order to save herself from Abigail s ... Show more content on

All of this could have been avoided if it weren t for the Proctors. If John never had an affair with
Abigail, Abigail would never have turned to witchcraft and no one would ve been blamed in the first
place. Jealousy and lust can be the source of a person s evil motive. When Betty wakes up she reveals
how Abigail attempted to murder Elizabeth, Betty says You drank a charm to kill John Proctors wife!
(1.1223). Abigail could have been found guilty if Elizabeth had told the truth about John s affair,
Danforth asks Elizabeth, Is your husband a lecher? (3.1260). Elizabeth lies and says No sir (3.1260).
One simple lie ruined the chances of the accused being acquitted. Arthur miller emphasizes how it is

Research Paper On Ad Hominem Fallacy
Ad Hominem
Ad Hominem comes from latin and means against the man , is a common fallacy that it is used to
attack the person rather than their argument. It is a lazy and easy way to put down your opponent with
poor reasoning and bad logic. It plays with people s emotion. The attack can be true, but has no
relevance to the claims of the argument and can bias the audience. Ad Hominem fallacies are often
used in politics, media and court.
One famous Ad Hominem fallacy was when President Clinton s infidelity and lies were used to attack
decisions he made as President. Although having been unfaithful and lying about it, it did not
necessarily impact on his work as President. In this case his private life had no bearing on his
professional activities. Ad Hominem abusive fallacy was used to point out character flaws or actions
(it can even involve insults) in order to discredit his status and work. Also perpetrators appeal to Ad
Hominem abusive fallacy to exonerate themselves of their crimes. For instance, during a recent
interview, one of the six perpetrators from the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, blamed his victim s
demeanour being immoral and provocative. Therefore, he claimed that he ... Show more content on

A fallacy is committed when the person is not qualified or is not recognised to be a legitimate
authority on the specific subject of the argument. For instance, in commercial advertisements,
celebrities who promote products for their qualities and effectiveness are not qualified in the field of
the specific product (eg. beauty products, dietary medication, cars). The facts could be true, but as the
claim is supported on the basis that an unqualified authority or a non expert body said so, it makes the
argument difficult to believe. However the Appeal to Authority fallacy is quite common as people
have a tendency to believe in authority and experts, which can make a claim

Human Trafficking And Its Effects On Human Rights
Human trafficking is an assault on human rights and a violation of one s dignity by means of forced
labor, sex trafficking, bonded labor, and/or domestic servitude. It remains to be both a local and global
issue, occurring in nearly every country, and its networks are vast and formidable to investigate
(Jesionka 2012). Despite government, activist groups and other organization s methods of
intervention, human trafficking is still a major concern with more individuals enslaved now than ever
before. Traffickers are able to coerce, deceive, threaten, and obtain complete control over their
victims. Many of whom are poor, illegal immigrants in search of a job to help support and provide for
their families. In their poverty and desperation, they willingly fall victim to the trade and end up
abused, overworked, underpaid, and most often unable to return home.
Throughout this class we have examined multiple different countries in which human trafficking still
remains an unsolved issue. Such as, Afghanistan s opium brides, Bangladesh s factory workers,
Thailand s child prostitutes, agricultural slaves in the United States, and baby trafficking in China.
How do so many individuals end up trafficked? Why does this still remain such a large problem in the
21st century? Is it something that is forever ingrained in our society? I chose to explore these couple
of questions and more in hopes of answering the last one. Maybe slavery is part of our culture and
something that will never be

Fujifilm made the conscious decision to embrace the change towards digitization. In 2004, the
company management team planned to take measures to ensure the viability of the company during
the shift towards digital. With this decision, Fujifilm remained a force to be reckoned with in the
photography industry. With the economic down spiral was occurring in 2008 Fujifilm was reporting
record breaking profits and earnings. Understanding the Global crisis of an impending recession
Fujifilm once again took action to maintain their viability. This time the company implemented a
series of decisive Group and division wide structural reforms over a two year period commencing the
fiscal year ended March 31, 2010 (Annual Report, pg. 4).
While Fujifilm was embracing the new technology and moving towards the digital world Kodak
remained stalled. While failing to embrace the new digital age of cameras, the company that invented
the first hand held camera saw its company collapse. The company filed for bankruptcy protection in
2010 to protect some of their assets. Although, Kodak was beginning to lose profits in 2007 their
management team did nothing to increase the company revenues and prevent the inevitable. In court

Love In The Poem In William Shakespeare s Meaning Of Love
Initial Thoughts The meaning of this poem didn t immediately grab me until I read the lines Half drew
him in, half lured him in that was when I realized that Goethe was talking about being lured in by a
siren or a nixe. At first the poem speaks to me about love at first sight. That is what I pulled from it at
the beginning but as I said above, that one line threw me into it being about a siren s song. Luring you
in until you get devoured and disappear. Did Goethe love someone that he would have disappeared
with? The siren s song is something anyone could get forced into and lose themselves. Aspect(s) of
Interest Love, that is what interests me the most in this poem. I m a softy when it comes to love
poems, they pull me in. I was surprised that I wouldn t have chosen a poem from the romantics and
didn t go with the classic William Shakespeare, but alas, the siren s song pulled me in. The fisherman
seemed to be living a somewhat happy live fishing to his heart s content. He also seemed to be day
dreaming a bit just staring at the water. Who wouldn t get pulled into the siren s song? Only Odysseus
I have read has ever pulled out of the grasp of the siren s song. Many people do the same today.

staying. Just be Odysseus pull yourselves out of it and live a better life. Love isn t about being forced

Cecil Dabydeen Flashbacks
Cyril Dabydeen s usage of flashbacks and irony in her short story, Mammita s Cove Garden , shines
light on Max s perplexed attitudes towards Canada. The main character in the short story, Max, allows
his perceptions to cloud the hard notch reality of his unforeseen situation. Cyril Dabydeen s usage of
flashbacks allows a sense of verisimilitude to unravel as Max accepts the situation he has found
himself in. Throughout the passage, Max drifts away to a time where he pictured Canada to be a safe
haven. Max pictured life in Canada to be effortless and full of opportunities. However, as his current
situation of despair becomes more apparent, Max is forced to overlook this utopia mindset and face
the burdens of reality. Dabydeen states, ...his thoughts kept going back, to the time he was on the
island and how he used to dream about being in Canada, of starting an entirely new life...Maybe he
was really happy on the island more than he realized. Once more he thought about a job; if he didn t
find one soon he might starve. But as the reality of this dawned on him he began laughing. No! No

Max was seen as a hardworking, persistent individual who would go on to do great things in the
future. Ironically, a look into the present contradicted this image of success. Dabydeen states, He

bookworm . ...Mammita s turn: she d look at him, then turn to the others ... as she d say, At least Max

The Irish And Chinese Immigrants In The 1950 s
The Irish and Chinese immigrants during the 1950 s were subjected to cruel judgment and unjust
regulations. Even though both of these races had such a major impact on American history, they were
once seen as an invasive species that were sucking up all available jobs. This forced the American
government and its people to take a stand against the Cheese and Irish. The Chinese faced exclusion
and economic laws, while the Irish were plagued with the label of being poor, diseased, and
considerably different from the prior Irish. The first sight of Chinese immigrants came in 1848 on the
coast of California. These immigrants came left all they knew back in the Guandong Providence in
search of a more prosperous American future. Overpopulation mixed with economic and political
crisis were the defining factors for their departure. During 1815 1855 on the entire opposite side of
America, Irish immigrants were landing in Boston and New York. Their appearance in America can be
divided through the time period in which they came. 1815 1844 Irish immigrants left their native
island due to British encroachment, cruel landlords, as well as a explosive population growth from
around four million to nine million. Yet, from 1845 1855 a majority of Irish immigrants left due to a
fungal infection that wiped out the primary crop in Ireland, the Potato. While the Irish and Chinese
had their separate reasons for leaving their original domicile, they ended in the same country facing
the same racial

Meiji Constitution Essay
Using specific examples from primary and secondary sources, address the following questions:
1. In the Meiji Constitution, the people of Japan are referred to as subjects, not as citizens. What is the
difference, and why is this significant?
Subjects were the people of Japan who had to follow, obey, and uphold the constitution, told that they
had to conform, along with their ancestors and descendants. They were not as valued as the citizens
according to the Emperor.
The citizens were already considered to be as equal as the Emperor who had all the rights, respect,
protection, and security.

into three branches to make sure no individual or group will have too much power. They are the
Executive (President and about 5,000,000 workers), Legislative (Senate and House of

effective and citizens rights are protected, each branch has their own power and responsibilities,

The Hard Boiled Private Eye
The hard boiled private eye is a mysterious protagonist who is a professional investigator. With a first
look at Oedipus Rex in Sophocles Oedipus the King and Jake Gittes in Roman Polanski s Chinatown
they seem to be very different from each other. Jake Gittes is a busy detective that lets solving cases
consume his life and Odeipus Rex is a brand new King in the city of Thebes whose is cursed with a
fate that cannot be changed. After reading Oedipus the King and watching Chinatown, it s clear that
both stories share similar characteristics such as corruption, lies and even incest.
Oedipus the King is a tragedy by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, that follows the story of
King Oedipus of Thebes as he discovers that he has unwittingly killed his own father, Laius, and
married his own mother, Jocasta. When Oedipus was a baby his parents were told by a prophet that the
baby would grow up to kill his father and marry his own mother. Oedipus mother and father sent him
away to be hanged by his ankles until death. Oedipus was later found and taken to a queen and king in
another kingdom where he would grow up thinking they were his real parents. When Oedipus get
older he gets told by a drunken man that he is a bastard child and this sends him on a mission to find
out the truth. Oedipus goes to the bind prophet for answers and after threating the prophet s life he
gets the full truth. Oedipus learns that he is destined to kill his father and marry his mother, so he

Persuasive Essay On Child Labor
Powering a Generation of Change
The use of children in an industry is considered inhumane and perilous. Child labor is a phenomenon
as old as mankind. Around the world and in the United States, growing gaps between rich and poor in
at least in the 20 years forced millions of young children out of school and into work. Underage
children work at all kinds of jobs around the world, usually because they and their families are very
poor. Large numbers of children work in commercial farming, fishing, manufacturing, mining, and
domestic service. Some children work in illegal activities like the drug trade and prostitution or other
terrible and upsetting activities such as serving as soldiers ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011).
Child labor should be banned when negatively affecting the child s health and development.
Of an estimated 215 child laborers around the globe: approximately 114 million (53%) are in Asia and
the Pacific; 14 million (7%) live in Latin America; and 65 million (30%) live in sub Saharan Africa
([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011). Child labor can be found in every industry. Children have
been found gathering bananas in Ecuador, oranges in Brazil, cotton in Egypt and Russia and many
other items. In commercial farming, children are more likely to breathe in unpleasantly bug killing
chemicals and be exposed in extreme temperatures for long periods of time. They often have
inadequate food, water, and sanitation. ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011).
Underage children are often found in manufacturing jobs as well. Approximately 14 million children
are estimated to be directly involved in manufacturing goods. Children have been found in
manufacturing carpets in India, Pakistan, and Egypt. They also been involved in sewing soccer balls in
Pakistan. The beautiful display of fireworks is made by children in China, the Dominican Republic, El
Salvador, Guatemala, India, and Peru ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011).
In many countries, child labor is part of culture and anchored in traditional attitudes. Child laborers
suffer extremely high illness and injury rates in underground mines, opencast mines, and quarries.
Children as young as 6 or 7 years old break up rocks, and wash, sieve, and carry ore.

The city Las Vegas, Nevada was founded in 1905, with about 110 acres of land that became useful for
downtown Vegas. The city was the driving force in the creation of Clark County, Nevada in 1909 and
then became the county in 1911. Downtown Las Vegas became a booming strip where they had many
projects in mind that they wanted to do. Las Vegas soon became known for gambling.
Population Dynamics
Growth: in the 1940s the population was 8,422 and then in Clark County it was 16,414. In 2014 the
population was estimated to be 608,444.33 and then the estimated population for this year is expected
to be 618,956.99. The life expectancy in Las Vegas depended on the zip code of the area that the
people lived in. During the World War II, the city had experienc3ed a rapid population growth,
growing at a rate of 192.4% between the years of 1940 and 1950 (Moffatt, 1996).

Country Recommendation For Expansion Throughout Southeast...
MEMO
TO: Strategic Management Team
FROM: Alejandro Chang
DATE: August 2, 2015
SUBJECT: Country recommendation for expansion in Southeast Asia.
Following the assignment to determine a new market in which to expand, I recommend that Wearable
Gadgets Corporation expands in Southeast Asia. The company should initiate operations in Malaysia
while considering Cambodia in future plans to transfer manufacturing.
INTRODUCTION
As Wearable Gadgets Corporation continues to grow it has become imperative to locate new markets
in which to expand. Our future expansion should consider potential revenue and also new alternatives
to our current operations.

Malaysian multiculturalism serve as an analytical tool around Asia on the reception of our company.
Today the population of Malaysia is in a favorable position in terms of human capital, and other
shipping companies are transferring manufacturing operations to Malaysia because it is estimated that
their working population increase exponentially in 2020. According to the CIA, one 45.40% of the
current population is less than 25 years and 41.12% are between 25 and 54 years (Central Intelligence
Agency, 2014).
Malaysia is a country committed in favor of free trade and WTO membership provides great support
and attaches great importance to the successive rounds of negotiations within that organization. The
market is open to exporters and the government places no restrictions on food imports, but there is
competition not only from local producers, but also exporting countries near Malaysia and Thailand
and Indonesia.
In Foreign direct investment, exports, education, and growth in Malaysia (Yusoff, 2015) the author
explains that Malaysia is an export based economy that has enacted several liberalization measures to
attract foreign investment, such as allowing foreigners to own property when certain criterias are met
among other advantages. Malaysia considers exports and foreign direct investment as an important
source of human capital augmentation, technological change and spillovers (p. 29).
In the early eighties, the Malaysian government planned to transform its economic

My Experience Of Homecoming
Homecoming The first time I went back home after coming to college was a rollercoaster of emotions.
After arriving home I was embraced with open arms by my mom and dad. This was the first time I had
seen them since being dropped off at college and I suddenly realized how much I missed them. I
called every so often but being in my own home being able to talk and with them was something I
hadn t ever experienced. All of my worries about homework and future exams were gone and I got to
enjoy the company of my parents. At the beginning of college I constantly felt like I couldn t be
myself. Coming home these feelings vanished because I was surrounded by those who loved me. After
spending a few hours catching up, I went to reconnect with my high school friends. Seeing them I was
flooded with nostalgia because these were the guys I had spent my life getting to know. We sat around
a campfire and talked all about our college experiences each with a different story. It felt surreal
because even in this short time I could tell everyone had changed. We all were more mature and in the
little time we had grown slightly apart. This was hard to admit but we all could tell. Throughout the
campfire we shared stories and laughed at our experiences during our first few months of college.
Being back with friends was different because every so often we would text or snapchat our friends
from college. You could tell we all appreciated being back but we had made a new home at our
colleges.

Essay Monotheism vs. Polytheism
Monotheism and polytheism are two very different belief systems. Monotheism is the belief in one
god and polytheism is the belief in more one than one god. The concept of morality can and does exist
within cultures that have only one god, as well as cultures that have multiple gods. Without morality,
the world would be a place of extreme chaos and pandemonium. However, the foundation for morality
within polytheistic religions is quite contradictory to the foundation for morality with monotheistic
religions. Morality within polytheism is somewhat inconsistent and relative; whereas in monotheism,
morality becomes more consistent and absolute. Morality exists throughout all cultures and religions
of the world in some shape or form. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the foundations for morality in polytheism and monotheism are quite different.
In polytheism the foundation for morality seems inconsistent and relative. Polytheistic religions have
no ultimate reality or god to set a standard for morality that all the followers must obey. Instead, each
of the many gods could have their own set of standards for morality. The inconsistency of morality
could theoretically lead one to be faced with the dilemma of which god is correct. Let s suppose one is
having an extramarital affair and is not sure if she should continue the affair or stop. Should she pray
to the goddess of lust and passion, to the god that is all knowing or to the god of family and
relationship? Not only does the inconsistency of morality standards cause followers to be faced with
choosing which gods to embrace, but also cause them to be faced which god is appropriate to pray for
moral guidance on different subjects. The notion that each of the multiple gods can set their standards
for morality, allows for the follower to circumstantially pick and choose which god to follow. It is
possible for a follower to be circumstantially selective because they do not have to answer to one
specific god. One can choose to follow a certain god because that particular god s set of morals allows
them to fulfill some desire or need that would otherwise not fulfilled under other

The Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002
Introduction
Many companies have failed their shareholders through deception and impartiality within the last few
decades, examples include Enron, Maxwell and TYCO. Enron were liable for irregular accounting
procedures which fringed upon fraudulent behavior, conducting business with other companies which
they owned and making their financial statements looking more presentable by excluding losses. The
share price inevitably collapsed from over $90 to virtually nil, leading to bankruptcy. Another
company, TYCO International, overstated their earnings, placing them in violation of the securities
exchange act. Similar to Tesco recently. These cases caused investors to lose billions. The American
government realized the effect this had on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result many American based businesses relocated to the UK stock market as the FSA regulates
with a lighter touch Independent, meaning a greater influence on self regulation. The act lead to the
UK s equivalent of it, the combined code of corporate governance. Which unlike SOXY is not a legal

The wrongful acts by firms go back to even before the 80 s, the problems were acknowledged, and as
a countermeasure to protect shareholders the Cadbury report was created, it sought to improve
corporate governance among UK companies this led to the Code of Best Practice which was adopted
by the London Stock Exchange. This proposed a system of self regulation by listed companies.

As well as auditor governance, businesses are also provided with guidance, in the form of the
companies act, i.e. the CA 2006 part 15 which details company responsibilities with regards to
accounts and reports. This outlines duties, i.e. the duty to keep accounting records and states that
directors mustn t approve accounts unless they give a true and fair view notes.
Regulatory Framework

Wrongdoing In Atonement
Atoning for a sin or wrongdoing is a difficult situation to come to terms with, and there are several
different reasons as to why someone might be atoning. Some people repent for their sins out of guilt,
while others feel obligated to atone for a wrongdoing due to pressure from a family member and or
close friend. In Ian McEwan s post modern style novel Atonement, the plot revolves around the Tallis
family, especially the youngest child Briony Tallis. The story of the Tallis family is told from several
of the character s perspectives, but the novel centers around thirteen year old Briony and her passion
for writing. Briony has a wild imagination and she loves to create elaborate stories, sometimes she
even includes her family members within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly after Briony finishes her crime , Briony soon realizes what she did is completely out of line
and how much hurt she has caused for Robbie, Robbie s mom, and Cecilia. The details for Briony s
remorse are included in the last section of the novel, London 1999. In this section, Briony has just
turned seventy seven and she is explaining to the audience that she is the one who wrote the events
prior to this particular section and she explains why she did so. She spends over fifty nine years
writing almost an apology of sorts in order to repent for what she did, the problem with the scenario
she states in some of her last lines, ...how can a novelist achieve atonement when, with her absolute
power of deciding outcomes, she is also God? There is no one, no entity or higher form that she can
appeal to, or be reconciled with, or that can forgive her. There is nothing outside of her (350). Briony
brings up a valid point with this specific quote because the whole point of her novel is to atone for the
crime she committed, yet she is not necessarily atoning to the ones she hurt, but she is atoning for her
own purpose. The whole unintentional deceit of Robbie Amell and Briony s family lead Briony to the
current position in her life, but because both Robbie and Cecilia have passed by the time Briony
finished writing her atonement, the whole novel is to satisfy

The Four Elements Of My Teaching Philosophy And Philosophy...
I believe that ``A tax on gained knowledge is to disseminate it by teaching, which leads to the
unlimited expansion of knowledge. My principle philosophy about teaching is that it is a holy message
to deliver knowledge to anyone who seeks it, and this concept should make learning an enjoyable
experience. My practical teaching philosophy mainly depends on four elements: {bf knowledge}, {bf
encouragement}, {bf contemplation}, and {bf excellence}. The acquisition and ongoing quest for
and to share {bf knowledge} is key for any successful teacher. The {bf encouragement} of student
interaction is necessary for success in learning, especially the encouragement of a student s {bf
contemplation} on how to expand their knowledge based on the material and always be thinking about
new ways to solve problems. This process and involvement can only lead to academic {bf
excellence}. I can contribute to the success and happiness of students through the practical implication
of the four elements of my teaching philosophy. My ongoing quest for knowledge will allow me to
deeply interact with the class materials and student, and communicate with them on their level of
understanding. This balance between the knowledge of the instructor and knowing the students needs
will allow for the appropriate level of challenge to maintain interest in the class. When first
approaching a topic to teach, I keep the students aware of the big picture or overall purpose of what

Committee Background Committee Background This committee, The Executive Cabinet of Mexico, is
appointed by the President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto. There are eighteen secretaries that each
oversee various parts that are crucial to the smooth running of this country. There are many routes that

The Executive Cabinet of Mexico is, as odd as this may sound, not named as an official part of the
Constitution of Mexico. The word Cabinet is actually never mentioned; however, the Constitution
does make numerous references to the various Secretaries of States that are prevalent within the
Executive Cabinet of Mexico. As a result, the Executive Cabinet of Mexico does not have a role,

either of those levels, is during a hearing where they see the Congressional committee defending and
justifying all of the actions that they have taken. The power that the Executive Cabinet of Mexico
bestows is vast due to the varied tasks, people, titles, and assignments each Secretary of State
possesses. Through both topics, drug trade and emigration, each Secretary of State shall use whatever
they can, in their power to make a difference to come closer to the end goal. Each Secretary of

Chinese Philosophy And The Mandate Of Heaven
Chinese Philosophy has been dominated by Humanistic ideology since the dawn of documented
Chinese history. Chinese Humanistic philosophy aimed to profess the unity of man and Heaven as
well as man and nature, unlike humanism that amines to discredit or deny a supreme power. This
philosophic idea developed over time through the development of social and historical change.
Following the conquest of Shang dynasty by the Chou in 1111 B.C., the Mandate of Heaven produced
by the Chou, held a doctrine to justify right to rule outside of birth or blood right. (TSait wing.) The
doctrine created in the Mandate of Heaven, states man s destiny mortal and immortal depended not on

place in society and the afterlife. Wing Tsit Chang summarized this perfectly that, Human personal
power was supplanted by human virtue and human effort, and man, through his moral deeds, could
now control his own destiny (Chang 3). The development of humanism majorly changed social,

Hedda Gabler Essay
Henrik Ibsen s play Hedda Gabler focuses on the life of a strong willed woman named Hedda Tesman.
Act one of Hedda Gabler introduced Hedda s newlywed husband George Tesman. Hedda and George
married after Hedda s father, General Gabler passed away. It could be possible that Hedda only
married George Tesman because she needed security in her life while adjusting to the loss of her
father. On the other hand, was a secure and stable life, what Hedda really wanted? Hedda Gabler s
upbringing, the death of her father, and the unhappiness and dissatisfaction all played a role in the lack
of passion she had to genuinely connect with other be people.
As a young girl Hedda s life had been centered on social statuses and the recognition that one receives

Unfortunately, Hedda did not have a mother around and was never taught the domestication of
womanhood and wifehood. Instead of learning how to cook, clean, and run a household Hedda was
taught to ride horses and shoot guns. When Tesman broke the news to Hedda that he no longer had
enough money for her to own a horse, she enjoyed shooting her pistols. The two pistols that Hedda
inherited from her father was one of the last few things that left her with a connection to her former
life. Hedda used the pistols her father gave her as a release when she was angry. But she also viewed
them as a toy that she used for fun and scared other people with. In Act 2 when Judge Brack arrived at
the Tesman s, Hedda began firing her pistol at him as he walked down the back way to get to the
house. As Judge Brack dodged the bullets coming from Hedda s pistol he questioned Hedda on what
exactly she was shooting at. Hedda replied with a nonchalant, Oh, I just stand here and shoot at the
sky (800). General Gabler used his pistols to protect his life and most importantly Hedda s. A General
s pistols help him to maintain control and authority. And for pistols with such a powerful meaning to
be put in the hands of such a reckless woman, only meant destruction for anyone who came within her
range. As if using people for target practice isn t bad enough Hedda did not stop with the pistols

The Social Differences Between Oral And Oral History
Oral accounts are crucial to understanding historical events which may have not been recorded
through text. The whole process in oral history is important to create the bigger image of the story and
provide the meaning. The act of listening is just as complex as interpreting the story, both aspects give
history a better understanding. The uniqueness of oral history can t compare to written history due to
the compassion and emotions that are evoked while talking. There are social implications of oral
history that come in various forms which effect the process. Although it is a complex process, it
enhances historical practices for many reasons.
The comparison between oral and written history has many discrepancies that impact the
understanding of history in a great way. Oral history has the ability to evoke many emotions due to
being able to see the body language of the speaker. Gestures create emphasis on various words which
may have a significant meaning to the speaker. These gestures would not be seen through text thus it
allows readers to experience the story through emotions as well as facts. The intensity of words also
creates emphasis which is only available through speech. Francis Good uses an analogy to express the
difference between text and oral accounts. Good states manuals and handbooks invariably provide
advice on the issues, problems and strategies involved, but practice and comment show considerable
divergence at times (Good, 362) which alludes to the conclusion that textual accounts can leave out
some information. These aspects contribute to how the audience perceives the information given,
importance will be given to items which can t be expressed through text. Oral history serves a social
purpose in today s society. Oral accounts give the public a better understanding about social, political
and economic issues which may not be written about.
Oral history changes the precedent of how history is interpreted. It enhances the historical practices by
emphasizing important aspects and revealing stories which may not have been heard otherwise. Oral
history and interviews are particularly beneficial for minorities, including women and the illiterate, to
express their stories. In Telling

Predictive Analysis Of Predictive Analysis, An Integral...
Predictive Analysis is an integral part of any business with its major role in all dimensions of the
business decision making processes. Prediction helps in understanding the customer better and
managing customer relationships in an efficient way. Understanding the customer is the most
important part of the business process as it impacts the potential growth in business and the success of
any business decision, be it a drastic or a minor change.
For instance, a product launch can be strategically planned using predictive analytics, if we know our
customers better. The sales and the marketing teams work closely with analysts and data scientists to

Businesses want to understand what kind of products the customers are likely to buy, who are the
loyal customers who keep coming back for re purchasing similar or other products, what other
products are our loyal customers interested in, what are the potential marketing campaigns which
could help us attract customers who are similar to the existing high value customers, and so on.
A few applications of Predictive Models:
The most important customer analytic areas and the state of the art methodologies are as follows.
(1) Customer attrition analysis
Predicting customer attrition is one of the major areas in customer analytics. Businesses have the need
to continuously monitor and understand customer behavior and their expectations, in order to have an
edge over the competitors. It makes no practical sense to not know whether the customers are staying
with the company or do they have a risk of attrition, due to various controllable and uncontrollable
factors. It is extremely essential for any business to retain the existing customers and resolving any
pressing issues in a timely manner. Retaining a customer is as important, if not more, as attracting new
customers.
a. Attrition Risk Modeling:
This is performed to predict the attrition risk for different customers/customer segments. The
customers with high risk of attrition are identified using various factors like their

Geoffrey Chaucer s Bath And The Miller s Tale Essay
Geoffrey Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, writes these stories to express a variety of
themes and lessons. One of these themes is the fidelity or loyalty in marriages during the late thirteen
hundreds. Chaucer uses a collection of pilgrims and their tales to portray the main types of marriage
during this time. These views are narrowed down to three main types and they are the feminine view,
the courtly view, and the common or fabliaux view. These main types are seen in The Wife of Bath s
Prologue and Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Miller s Tale. During this time period, a few women
had a very feminist view on the idea of marriage. This is the idea that women should have freedom in
the marriage and be able to do the same things in the community as her husband. This also means that
in the context of the marriage, the wife should be the most powerful and have control over her
husband. This was especially expressed from the Wife of Bath as she speaks of her views in her
prologue and her tale. In the Wife of Bath s prologue, she tells that she has had four husbands before
the one she has now and that she is not ashamed of her lack of virginity even as some of the
community members look down on her. She doesn t think it s fair that if a woman has more than one
husband in her lifetime, she is frowned upon, but it is acceptable for men to remarry several times
(Marcotte). The Wife of Bath wants to have equality as a female in the social aspects of her marriage.

Violence And The Second Intifada
CHAPTER 4 Violence and the Second Intifada
The second or al Aqsa intifada began the day after Ariel Sharon s visit to the Dome of the Rock or al
Aqsa mosque complex in Jerusalem in late September 2000. Palestinian demonstrators and worshipers
were fired upon, sparking the ongoing uprising. This intifada differed from the first. While the first
intifada was democratic, involving widespread participation, was secular, basically non violent, and
contributed to peace efforts, this intifada was characterized by participation of a few, the use of
violence against civilians and military alike, and widespread religious idioms. It decreased allies of the
Palestinians among the Israelis and in the west. Where protesters in Israel previously joined the

It also indicates that they are changing their ideology to align more effectively with contemporary
social and political pressures. Welcoming and celebrating the actions of female bombers serves a
purpose that the same support of men s actions would not fulfill: making the plight of the Palestinians
more relatable. If a woman is internationally recognized for detonating a bomb in Israel while a man
would be only mentioned in passing, then it is very worthwhile to the Palestinian cause to use women
to facilitate as much publicity and promotion of political goals as possible. Bloom maintains that this
is a political war, not a religious war, and the suicide bombings are being carefully planned and
executed as part of a precise political strategy. The usage of women is a definite part of this strategy,
whether they are participating through their own initiative or are being actively

Estuarine Pollution in Eutrophicatin
Rivers and estuaries have been useful to human beings more than just as a water source. They have
been the centre of interest of frontier settlement, which leads to more human activities and wastes,
which leads to dumping rubbish into the most convenient place the waterways. What becomes a
problem is that more and more toxic chemicals are being dumped to a point that the waterways could
no longer filter it. One of the problems that is becoming a global crisis is eutrophication. Therefore,
this paper will be talking about the estuarine pollution, specifically on eutrophication, starting with the
source and type of the pollutants, how it affects the estuaries and the management of the pollution.
Eutrophication happens as the water ecosystem becomes more productive due to increasing primary
productivity in the estuary. This happens because of the excessive nutrient enrichment which will
cause frequent cyanobacteria blooms (Wang and Wang, 2009). The excess nutrients could come from
different sources, including stormwater drainage, waste discharges from industrial areas, and runoffs
from agricultural farm. According to United States Environmental Protection Agency, the stormwater
can pick up debris and chemicals straight from the streets into the rivers and estuaries. Consequently,
it also drags the excess nutrients when it is discharged from the storm sewer system. Not only that, the
stormwater can also drag nutrients and pathogens form leaking and poorly maintained septic

Essay about Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol
Never before have I encountered more intriguing works of art than those done by
Andy Warhol. I have been curious about his life ever since I saw his work in
Milwaukee. I saw his famous work of the Campbell s Soup Can. By viewing this, one can tell he is not
your average artist. I m sure his life is full of interesting events that shaped him into who he was. As
an artist myself, I would like to get to know the background of his life. I may then be able to
appreciate his styles and understand why and how his works were created. His life is as interesting as
his artistic masterpieces. Andrew Warhola (his original name) was born one of three sons of Czech
immigrants, somewhere in
Pennsylvania on either August 6, 1928 or on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rest of his short life was spent visiting with celebrities and keeping up with the world s times. He
tried to understand how the rest of the world saw things, but just never got there. Sadly, Warhol died
of a heart failure on March 9, 1987, still wearing his famous blond hair wig. Andy s diaries are not
actual written records of his day to day accounts, but they are audio recordings of his phone
conversations to Pat Hackett every Monday through
Friday (from Wednesday, November 24, 1976 to Tuesday, February 17, 1987, just weeks before his
death). Warhol originally intended these daily records to be documentation of his minor quot;business
quot; expenses. He was just audited and felt the need to be extra careful. quot;In a word it was a diary.
But whatever its broader objective, its narrow one, to satisfy tax auditors, was always on my mind
quot; (Warhol xvi). Later on, he felt the diaries were a great way to explain his everyday occurrences
for more than a decade of his life. This view of his life from his eyes is probably the most balanced
view ever given. He may have changed since the 60 s, but it is still the truest representation of Andy,
himself. He never expressed the key happenings of his life; it s as if we, the readers, already knew
them. He just usually mentions the quick everyday type things such as a cab ride to uptown New York.
The first major influence on Andy
Warhol s life was the stepping stone of his artistic career, his enrollment in

The National Law Center On Homelessness Poverty Essay
The National Law Center on Homelessness Poverty currently estimates that each year at least 2.5 to
3.5 million Americans sleep in shelters, transitional housing, and public places not meant for human
habitation. At least an additional 7.4 million have lost their own homes and are doubled up with others
due to economic necessity. According to Point in Time Count, San Diego had 8,692 homeless people.
Almost 3,800 of them were sleeping in emergency shelters or transitional housing. The Count showed
more than 5000 people were unsheltered. Some slept in cars, sidewalks or abandoned building.
Moreover, 61%of the homeless people in shelters were children and 40% were families and 1157 were
homeless veterans. Two advocates put this dilemma of the issue of falling from the scene into
perspective:
Something remarkable has happened to the spectacle of the street dwelling poor in the two decades
since it reappeared on the public stage: Homelessness became domesticated routine; an all but
expected feature of the urban landscape. No longer cause for vocal concern, let alone outrage, it has
been integrated into that cheerless diorama of un abashed wealth and relentless poverty that now
passes for normalcy in American cities. (Hopper, 2003, p. 193)
Decades and decades have passed without the resolve to end such an epidemic . . . Homelessness
doesn t end. Year after year, shelters provide refuge, churches and temples provide meals, downtown
missions offer care, social service agencies

The Gravitational Slingshot Essay
The Gravitational Slingshot
The gravitational slingshot is a way that scientists have truly harnessed the gravitational pull of a
planet by using it to launch satellites and other useful projectiles towards their desired locations. This
method was developed through the use of Newton s Laws of Gravity and Kepler s Laws of Planetary
Motion. When these ideas of gravity and the shape of a planet s orbit were brought together piece by
piece, this new theory changed how a projectile traveling through space could simply cross an orbital
pattern, which would in turn change the path of the moving object. The change in the path accelerates
the object at a higher rate and sends it speeding off in its proper direction. The gravitational ... Show

Kepler established the Laws of Planetary Motion. The first Law states that the orbit of every planet is
an ellipse with the Sun at one of the two foci. The second law states that a line joining a planet and the
Sun sweeps out equal areas during equal intervals of time. And the final Law tells that the square of
the orbital period of a planet is directly proportional to the cube of the semi major axis of its orbit.
Kepler s Laws also come into play with the use of the gravitational slingshot, because Kepler believed
that the orbit that a planet takes around another body follows an elliptical pattern, instead of traveling
in a perfect circle. Of course each planet has a specific elliptical orbit, just as humans have different
fingerprints to identify them. Before launching their equipment into space, each planet must have its
pattern identified to ensure accurate results for the launch. This knowledge helps scientists identify
where the ellipses are in relation to the paths of orbit so that they can launch satellites in the proper
direct, at the proper time, with the proper velocity. Combining both of these sets of theories together
has lead the way to the effect we know as the gravitational slingshot effect.
Today, the gravity assist effect is used extremely often by NASA and the Air Force. It is the most fuel
efficient, naturally occurring booster in

Early Jewish Migration to Maryland
The Early Waves of Jewish Migration to Maryland
Introduction:
The state of Maryland is current home to over 235,000 self identified Jewish residents, making up
over 4% of the total state population (JDB, 159). Today, Jewish
Marylanders live in an open, welcoming environment, but this was not always the case.
When the first Jewish settlers landed in St. Mary s City, political equality was only a hope for the
distant future. The first wave of Jewish migration to Maryland was marked by a trend of percolation
rather then influx migration. Jews in the area practiced a quiet observance rather then an open
profession of faith. After the Revolutionary War, urbanization increased and wave two of Jewish
migration began. But it wasn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was also overheard saying that all miracles attributed to Jesus were preformed by magic.
Lumbrozo was quickly arrested and sent to jail. He remained in jail until he was freed many years
latter in a general pardon (Stern, 292).
Even though suffrage was a right granted to all white males nationally, Jewish men in Maryland could
not vote until the early 1800 s. The same could be said for the right to hold state office. The Act of
1715 required that the oath of abjuration was added to the end of all oaths of state office. The words
upon the truth faith of a Christian were administered to all people currently in state office or who were
thereafter sworn into state office (Rabinove, 137). This officially excluded any Jewish person from
holding a state position. Eight years latter, an act was passed to punish blasphemers, swearers,
drunkards, and Sabbath breakers and in addition spell out the appropriate punishment if any person
shall hereafter within this province... deny our Savior Jesus Christ to be the
Son of God, or shall deny the Holy Trinity (AMO). Punishment for a first offence was a fine and a
tongue boarding, while punishment for the second a fine and a B branded on the forehead. If a person
was convicted a third time they were put to death. Because of acts like these, Jewish residents at the
time tended to keep their religious affiliation on the backburner. Publicly observant Jews were few and
far between.

  • 2. The Relationship Between Bilingual Education And... Bilingual education involves the practice of teaching non English speaking learners in their native language, while they are learning English. The academic content is taught in both the native language and a secondary language. Program models for bilingual education determine the varying allotted time for each language. It is often a complex array of school programs with different goals and objectives for varying student populations (Bybee Henderson, 2014). Multiculturalism, on the other hand, is the diversity of cultures; racial and religious, that exist in society and the acceptance of customary behaviors, ways of thinking and ways of communicating (Burdick Will Gomez, 2006). Multiculturalism is often contrasted with the concept of assimilation and has been described as a melting pot . This paper will examine the history and current political trends of both bilingual education and multiculturalism. The distinct aspects of, and the relationship between bilingual education and multiculturalism will be discussed and conclude with modern day trends. Bilingual education in the United States public school system has a long standing social and political history that has been plagued by debates about its goals and effectiveness. The policies have typically been informed by theory aimed at identifying the best methods to provide English instruction to English Language Learners (ELLs), and research on bilingual education program effectiveness. • 3. Anthrophysiology Of Stress Stress is what happens when the body responds to a threat. When the brain feels that the body is being threatened or the brain feels pressure the brain causes the nervous system to release stress hormones and awakens or alarms the body to create stress. Stress can also be explained as when you are mentally or emotionally strained or tired from difficult or very demanding tasks. Another way to define stress is when you feel as though something or someone is making you feel like everything is very hard to overcome. Stress can create various threats such as raising blood pressure, can cause stomach aches, shut down the immune system or slow it down, and it can also put you in more risk or either having a stroke or a heart attack in a later period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the body feels as though you are being approached with a challenging situation the adrenal gland produces this hormone which then goes to the adrenal cortex and then that causes your brain to be notified of this act of stress and causes your brain to react to it, this process with the adrenal gland can react in just seconds. The adrenal glands are located in the area where the kidneys are they are actually connected and after the Adrenal glands there is the adrenal cortex which is what makes the signal go to your brain to make you feel stressed. Adrenaline Adrenaline is a hormone that is created in the adrenal glands especially in a condition of stress, increasing the rate of the blood s circulation, breathing and is preparing the body or the bodies muscle for exertion (exertion also known as preparing for a stressful or a very difficult decision or a difficult task). Adrenaline may be also explained as an exhilarating feeling when you feel as though you are at the edge often felt when either one is very happy, or a very stressed unreal feeling when you are very tensed by a certain scenario. In 1966 the EEOC issued regulations that provided that employers must afford accommodation unless it would cause a serious inconvenience to the conduct of business. In 1967, this regulation was further refined to read undue hardship on the conduct of the employer s business. These regulations were quickly challenged as was the EEOC authority to issue such regulations. (Foltin Standish, 2004, p. 3). Finally, in 1972 Congress amended Title VII adding a new section 701(j), which reads as follows: The term religion includes all aspects of religious observance and practice, as well as belief, unless an employer demonstrates that he is unable to reasonably accommodate to an employee s or perspective employee s religious observance or practice without undue hardship on the conduct of the employer s business. This still left the defining of the terminology reasonably accommodate and undue hardship to the legal system. Case Law – Trans World Airlines, Inc. v. Hardison Background In this case, Larry G. Hardison was an employee with TWA working as a clerk in the Stores Department at its Kansas City base. This was an essential role in the Kansas City operation as the Stores Department must operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. • 8. Examples Of Evil Deeds In The Crucible The Crucible Can one s evil deed lead to the evil deeds of many? Some may debate whether that is true or not. I believe so; our actions define who we are and who we will become. In Arthur Miller s captivating play, The Crucible, he demonstrated the evil nature of greed and lust and the crucial aspect of making good decisions. It depicts how a man named John Proctor s decision caused the terrible misfortunes of a small town called Salem. We see how ones evil deed can be a snowballing effect which leads to the evil deeds of many others. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller is trying to tell us how crucial it is to make good decisions in our lives. We witness the greed and lies of a young woman named Abigail Williams and what she does in order to get what she desires. John Proctor, the man she had an affair with, tries to call the affair off. As a result, Abigail turned to witchcraft to try to get Elizabeth, John s wife, dead. • 9. Research Paper On Ad Hominem Fallacy Ad Hominem Ad Hominem comes from latin and means against the man , is a common fallacy that it is used to attack the person rather than their argument. It is a lazy and easy way to put down your opponent with poor reasoning and bad logic. It plays with people s emotion. The attack can be true, but has no relevance to the claims of the argument and can bias the audience. Ad Hominem fallacies are often used in politics, media and court. One famous Ad Hominem fallacy was when President Clinton s infidelity and lies were used to attack decisions he made as President. Although having been unfaithful and lying about it, it did not necessarily impact on his work as President. In this case his private life had no bearing on his professional activities. Ad Hominem abusive fallacy was used to point out character flaws or actions (it can even involve insults) in order to discredit his status and work. Also perpetrators appeal to Ad Hominem abusive fallacy to exonerate themselves of their crimes. • 10. Human Trafficking And Its Effects On Human Rights Human trafficking is an assault on human rights and a violation of one s dignity by means of forced labor, sex trafficking, bonded labor, and/or domestic servitude. It remains to be both a local and global issue, occurring in nearly every country, and its networks are vast and formidable to investigate (Jesionka 2012). Despite government, activist groups and other organization s methods of intervention, human trafficking is still a major concern with more individuals enslaved now than ever before. Traffickers are able to coerce, deceive, threaten, and obtain complete control over their victims. Many of whom are poor, illegal immigrants in search of a job to help support and provide for their families. In their poverty and desperation, they willingly fall victim to the trade and end up abused, overworked, underpaid, and most often unable to return home. Throughout this class we have examined multiple different countries in which human trafficking still remains an unsolved issue. Such as, Afghanistan s opium brides, Bangladesh s factory workers, Thailand s child prostitutes, agricultural slaves in the United States, and baby trafficking in China. How do so many individuals end up trafficked? Why does this still remain such a large problem in the 21st century? Is it something that is forever ingrained in our society? Love In The Poem In William Shakespeare s Meaning Of Love Initial Thoughts The meaning of this poem didn t immediately grab me until I read the lines Half drew him in, half lured him in that was when I realized that Goethe was talking about being lured in by a siren or a nixe. At first the poem speaks to me about love at first sight. That is what I pulled from it at the beginning but as I said above, that one line threw me into it being about a siren s song. Luring you in until you get devoured and disappear. Did Goethe love someone that he would have disappeared with? The siren s song is something anyone could get forced into and lose themselves. Even though both of these races had such a major impact on American history, they were once seen as an invasive species that were sucking up all available jobs. This forced the American government and its people to take a stand against the Cheese and Irish. The Chinese faced exclusion and economic laws, while the Irish were plagued with the label of being poor, diseased, and considerably different from the prior Irish. The first sight of Chinese immigrants came in 1848 on the coast of California. These immigrants came left all they knew back in the Guandong Providence in search of a more prosperous American future. Overpopulation mixed with economic and political crisis were the defining factors for their departure. During 1815 1855 on the entire opposite side of America, Irish immigrants were landing in Boston and New York. Their appearance in America can be divided through the time period in which they came. 1815 1844 Irish immigrants left their native island due to British encroachment, cruel landlords, as well as a explosive population growth from around four million to nine million. Yet, from 1845 1855 a majority of Irish immigrants left due to a fungal infection that wiped out the primary crop in Ireland, the Potato. Jake Gittes is a busy detective that lets solving cases consume his life and Odeipus Rex is a brand new King in the city of Thebes whose is cursed with a fate that cannot be changed. After reading Oedipus the King and watching Chinatown, it s clear that both stories share similar characteristics such as corruption, lies and even incest. Oedipus the King is a tragedy by the ancient Greek playwright Sophocles, that follows the story of King Oedipus of Thebes as he discovers that he has unwittingly killed his own father, Laius, and married his own mother, Jocasta. When Oedipus was a baby his parents were told by a prophet that the baby would grow up to kill his father and marry his own mother. Oedipus mother and father sent him away to be hanged by his ankles until death. Oedipus was later found and taken to a queen and king in another kingdom where he would grow up thinking they were his real parents. When Oedipus get older he gets told by a drunken man that he is a bastard child and this sends him on a mission to find out the truth. Oedipus goes to the bind prophet for answers and after threating the prophet s life he gets the full truth. • 21. Persuasive Essay On Child Labor Powering a Generation of Change The use of children in an industry is considered inhumane and perilous. Child labor is a phenomenon as old as mankind. Around the world and in the United States, growing gaps between rich and poor in at least in the 20 years forced millions of young children out of school and into work. Underage children work at all kinds of jobs around the world, usually because they and their families are very poor. Large numbers of children work in commercial farming, fishing, manufacturing, mining, and domestic service. Some children work in illegal activities like the drug trade and prostitution or other terrible and upsetting activities such as serving as soldiers ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011). Child labor should be banned when negatively affecting the child s health and development. Of an estimated 215 child laborers around the globe: approximately 114 million (53%) are in Asia and the Pacific; 14 million (7%) live in Latin America; and 65 million (30%) live in sub Saharan Africa ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011). Child labor can be found in every industry. Children have been found gathering bananas in Ecuador, oranges in Brazil, cotton in Egypt and Russia and many other items. In commercial farming, children are more likely to breathe in unpleasantly bug killing chemicals and be exposed in extreme temperatures for long periods of time. They often have inadequate food, water, and sanitation. ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011). Underage children are often found in manufacturing jobs as well. Approximately 14 million children are estimated to be directly involved in manufacturing goods. Children have been found in manufacturing carpets in India, Pakistan, and Egypt. They also been involved in sewing soccer balls in Pakistan. The beautiful display of fireworks is made by children in China, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, India, and Peru ([www.michaelherringdesign.com] 2011). In many countries, child labor is part of culture and anchored in traditional attitudes. Child laborers suffer extremely high illness and injury rates in underground mines, opencast mines, and quarries. Children as young as 6 or 7 years old break up rocks, and wash, sieve, and carry ore. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After arriving home I was embraced with open arms by my mom and dad. This was the first time I had seen them since being dropped off at college and I suddenly realized how much I missed them. I called every so often but being in my own home being able to talk and with them was something I hadn t ever experienced. All of my worries about homework and future exams were gone and I got to enjoy the company of my parents. At the beginning of college I constantly felt like I couldn t be myself. Coming home these feelings vanished because I was surrounded by those who loved me. After spending a few hours catching up, I went to reconnect with my high school friends. Seeing them I was flooded with nostalgia because these were the guys I had spent my life getting to know. We sat around a campfire and talked all about our college experiences each with a different story. It felt surreal because even in this short time I could tell everyone had changed. We all were more mature and in the little time we had grown slightly apart. This was hard to admit but we all could tell. Throughout the campfire we shared stories and laughed at our experiences during our first few months of college. The concept of morality can and does exist within cultures that have only one god, as well as cultures that have multiple gods. Without morality, the world would be a place of extreme chaos and pandemonium. However, the foundation for morality within polytheistic religions is quite contradictory to the foundation for morality with monotheistic religions. However, the foundations for morality in polytheism and monotheism are quite different. In polytheism the foundation for morality seems inconsistent and relative. Polytheistic religions have no ultimate reality or god to set a standard for morality that all the followers must obey. Instead, each of the many gods could have their own set of standards for morality. The inconsistency of morality could theoretically lead one to be faced with the dilemma of which god is correct. Let s suppose one is having an extramarital affair and is not sure if she should continue the affair or stop. Should she pray to the goddess of lust and passion, to the god that is all knowing or to the god of family and relationship? Not only does the inconsistency of morality standards cause followers to be faced with choosing which gods to embrace, but also cause them to be faced which god is appropriate to pray for moral guidance on different subjects. The notion that each of the multiple gods can set their standards for morality, allows for the follower to circumstantially pick and choose which god to follow. It is possible for a follower to be circumstantially selective because they do not have to answer to one specific god. One can choose to follow a certain god because that particular god s set of morals allows them to fulfill some desire or need that would otherwise not fulfilled under other ... Some people repent for their sins out of guilt, while others feel obligated to atone for a wrongdoing due to pressure from a family member and or close friend. In Ian McEwan s post modern style novel Atonement, the plot revolves around the Tallis family, especially the youngest child Briony Tallis. In this section, Briony has just turned seventy seven and she is explaining to the audience that she is the one who wrote the events prior to this particular section and she explains why she did so. She spends over fifty nine years writing almost an apology of sorts in order to repent for what she did, the problem with the scenario she states in some of her last lines, ...how can a novelist achieve atonement when, with her absolute power of deciding outcomes, she is also God? There is no one, no entity or higher form that she can appeal to, or be reconciled with, or that can forgive her. There is nothing outside of her (350). Briony brings up a valid point with this specific quote because the whole point of her novel is to atone for the crime she committed, yet she is not necessarily atoning to the ones she hurt, but she is atoning for her own purpose. As Judge Brack dodged the bullets coming from Hedda s pistol he questioned Hedda on what exactly she was shooting at. • 40. The Social Differences Between Oral And Oral History Oral accounts are crucial to understanding historical events which may have not been recorded through text. The whole process in oral history is important to create the bigger image of the story and provide the meaning. The act of listening is just as complex as interpreting the story, both aspects give history a better understanding. The uniqueness of oral history can t compare to written history due to the compassion and emotions that are evoked while talking. There are social implications of oral history that come in various forms which effect the process. Although it is a complex process, it enhances historical practices for many reasons. The comparison between oral and written history has many discrepancies that impact the understanding of history in a great way. Oral history has the ability to evoke many emotions due to being able to see the body language of the speaker. Gestures create emphasis on various words which may have a significant meaning to the speaker. These gestures would not be seen through text thus it allows readers to experience the story through emotions as well as facts. The intensity of words also creates emphasis which is only available through speech. Francis Good uses an analogy to express the difference between text and oral accounts. Good states manuals and handbooks invariably provide advice on the issues, problems and strategies involved, but practice and comment show considerable divergence at times (Good, 362) which alludes to the conclusion that textual accounts can leave out some information. These aspects contribute to how the audience perceives the information given, importance will be given to items which can t be expressed through text. Oral history serves a social purpose in today s society. Oral accounts give the public a better understanding about social, political and economic issues which may not be written about. Oral history changes the precedent of how history is interpreted. It enhances the historical practices by emphasizing important aspects and revealing stories which may not have been heard otherwise. Oral history and interviews are particularly beneficial for minorities, including women and the illiterate, to express their stories. In Telling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Geoffrey Chaucer s Bath And The Miller s Tale Essay Geoffrey Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, writes these stories to express a variety of themes and lessons. One of these themes is the fidelity or loyalty in marriages during the late thirteen hundreds. Chaucer uses a collection of pilgrims and their tales to portray the main types of marriage during this time. These views are narrowed down to three main types and they are the feminine view, the courtly view, and the common or fabliaux view. These main types are seen in The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Miller s Tale. During this time period, a few women had a very feminist view on the idea of marriage. This is the idea that women should have freedom in the marriage and be able to do the same things in the community as her husband. This also means that in the context of the marriage, the wife should be the most powerful and have control over her husband. This was especially expressed from the Wife of Bath as she speaks of her views in her prologue and her tale. In the Wife of Bath s prologue, she tells that she has had four husbands before the one she has now and that she is not ashamed of her lack of virginity even as some of the community members look down on her. She doesn t think it s fair that if a woman has more than one husband in her lifetime, she is frowned upon, but it is acceptable for men to remarry several times (Marcotte). While the first intifada was democratic, involving widespread participation, was secular, basically non violent, and contributed to peace efforts, this intifada was characterized by participation of a few, the use of violence against civilians and military alike, and widespread religious idioms. • 45. Estuarine Pollution in Eutrophicatin Rivers and estuaries have been useful to human beings more than just as a water source. They have been the centre of interest of frontier settlement, which leads to more human activities and wastes, which leads to dumping rubbish into the most convenient place the waterways. What becomes a problem is that more and more toxic chemicals are being dumped to a point that the waterways could no longer filter it. One of the problems that is becoming a global crisis is eutrophication. Therefore, this paper will be talking about the estuarine pollution, specifically on eutrophication, starting with the source and type of the pollutants, how it affects the estuaries and the management of the pollution. Eutrophication happens as the water ecosystem becomes more productive due to increasing primary productivity in the estuary. This happens because of the excessive nutrient enrichment which will cause frequent cyanobacteria blooms (Wang and Wang, 2009). The excess nutrients could come from different sources, including stormwater drainage, waste discharges from industrial areas, and runoffs from agricultural farm. According to United States Environmental Protection Agency, the stormwater can pick up debris and chemicals straight from the streets into the rivers and estuaries. Consequently, it also drags the excess nutrients when it is discharged from the storm sewer system. Not only that, the stormwater can also drag nutrients and pathogens form leaking and poorly maintained septic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Andy s diaries are not actual written records of his day to day accounts, but they are audio recordings of his phone conversations to Pat Hackett every Monday through Friday (from Wednesday, November 24, 1976 to Tuesday, February 17, 1987, just weeks before his death). Warhol originally intended these daily records to be documentation of his minor quot;business quot; expenses. He was just audited and felt the need to be extra careful. quot;In a word it was a diary. But whatever its broader objective, its narrow one, to satisfy tax auditors, was always on my mind quot; (Warhol xvi). Later on, he felt the diaries were a great way to explain his everyday occurrences for more than a decade of his life. This view of his life from his eyes is probably the most balanced view ever given. He may have changed since the 60 s, but it is still the truest representation of Andy, himself. He never expressed the key happenings of his life; it s as if we, the readers, already knew them. He just usually mentions the quick everyday type things such as a cab ride to uptown New York. • 47. The National Law Center On Homelessness Poverty Essay The National Law Center on Homelessness Poverty currently estimates that each year at least 2.5 to 3.5 million Americans sleep in shelters, transitional housing, and public places not meant for human habitation. At least an additional 7.4 million have lost their own homes and are doubled up with others due to economic necessity. According to Point in Time Count, San Diego had 8,692 homeless people. Almost 3,800 of them were sleeping in emergency shelters or transitional housing. The Count showed more than 5000 people were unsheltered. Some slept in cars, sidewalks or abandoned building. Moreover, 61%of the homeless people in shelters were children and 40% were families and 1157 were homeless veterans. Two advocates put this dilemma of the issue of falling from the scene into perspective: Something remarkable has happened to the spectacle of the street dwelling poor in the two decades since it reappeared on the public stage: Homelessness became domesticated routine; an all but expected feature of the urban landscape. No longer cause for vocal concern, let alone outrage, it has been integrated into that cheerless diorama of un abashed wealth and relentless poverty that now passes for normalcy in American cities. (Hopper, 2003, p. 193) Decades and decades have passed without the resolve to end such an epidemic . . . Homelessness doesn t end. • 48. The Gravitational Slingshot Essay The Gravitational Slingshot The gravitational slingshot is a way that scientists have truly harnessed the gravitational pull of a planet by using it to launch satellites and other useful projectiles towards their desired locations. This method was developed through the use of Newton s Laws of Gravity and Kepler s Laws of Planetary Motion. When these ideas of gravity and the shape of a planet s orbit were brought together piece by piece, this new theory changed how a projectile traveling through space could simply cross an orbital pattern, which would in turn change the path of the moving object. The change in the path accelerates the object at a higher rate and sends it speeding off in its proper direction. The gravitational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kepler established the Laws of Planetary Motion. The first Law states that the orbit of every planet is an ellipse with the Sun at one of the two foci. The second law states that a line joining a planet and the Sun sweeps out equal areas during equal intervals of time. And the final Law tells that the square of the orbital period of a planet is directly proportional to the cube of the semi major axis of its orbit. Kepler s Laws also come into play with the use of the gravitational slingshot, because Kepler believed that the orbit that a planet takes around another body follows an elliptical pattern, instead of traveling in a perfect circle. Of course each planet has a specific elliptical orbit, just as humans have different fingerprints to identify them. Before launching their equipment into space, each planet must have its pattern identified to ensure accurate results for the launch. This knowledge helps scientists identify where the ellipses are in relation to the paths of orbit so that they can launch satellites in the proper direct, at the proper time, with the proper velocity. Combining both of these sets of theories together has lead the way to the effect we know as the gravitational slingshot effect. Today, the gravity assist effect is used extremely often by NASA and the Air Force. It is the most fuel efficient, naturally occurring booster in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
