The Vietnam War Was A Long And Costly Conflict
Causes if the Vietnam War
Before WWII Vietnam belonged to the French Empire but during the war, it was taken over by the
Japanese but since they were being defeated they retreated back to Japan. This gave the chance to the
Vietnamese people to create their own government led by Ho Chi Minh but at the end of the war, the
south was given back to the french while the north was led by the Chinese, who was not communist at
the time, so Ho Chi Minh lost all his power. When the Chinese pulled out in 1946 the Ho Chi Minh
party took over The Viet Minh and by October the French stated their intention of reuniting back with
north but it would all be under the french rule so the Viet Minh prepared to fight back. War started in

The North Vietnamese army was supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies
whereas the South Vietnamese army were supported by the United States, South Korea, Australia,
Thailand and other Anti communist countries. The Vietnam war took place because North Vietnam
was fighting to unify Vietnam but the US intervened and helped the communist takeover. This was
part of a larger plan from the US to eliminate communism.
Major Significant Events:
The Spring Offensive
The 1975 Spring Offensive was a series of large offensive operations to force south Vietnam and it s
rallied back and eventually defeat the armed forces.and force the government to surrender. After initial
success, North Vietnam increased its attack and continued to push forward. This was also the initial
idea of the Easter offensive in 1972 but it failed due to strong US forces but due to decreases in
American military aid which was south Vietnam s main power the spring offensive was successful.
Unable to fight back and cope without the large US support south Vietnam collapsed causing large
numbers of casualties. South Vietnam s immediate action was to regroup its forces and decrease the
area that its troops had to defend, thereby surrendering space for time. However, due to a
miscommunication, lack of authority and management lead to the loss of Buôn Ma Thuột and a

How Did Shabbetai Tzvi Become Successful
In Gaza, Nathan continued his energetic campaign to promote the redemption. Believers began to
proliferate throughout the Jewish world. The legend fed on itself the more people who believed that
Shabbetai Tzvi was the Messiah, the more ambassadors there were for the cause. With the excitement
growing, and the anticipation increasing, Shabbetai Tzvi and his acolytes decided it was time to
inform the Ottoman authorities, and in particular the Sultan, about his Messianic mission, and to
request their full cooperation. In early 1666, Shabbetai Tzvi set sail for Constantinople. Rough seas
disrupted the ten day journey, and the ship floundered for more than a month. Meanwhile, the news of
his imminent appearance in the Ottoman capital created a massive stir, and the Jewish community
leadership struggled to formulate a cogent strategy. While they ... Show more content on

So great was the influx of pilgrims that food prices began to rise, while local boat owners charged
exorbitant rates to ferry the believers to the prison fortress and back. The surreal pantomime continued
for several months and the date of redemption came and went but the hysteria continued unabated. On
17 Tammuz, Shabbetai Tzvi ate and so did his supporters. Then, during the traditional three weeks of
mourning, Shabbetai Tzvi announced he was cancelling the fast of Tisha B Av, a decision hailed by his
followers as a new high point of the redemptive era.
But by now the penny was beginning to drop. Things were not really going as planned, and nothing
seemed to match Nathan s ever escalating predictions and prophecies . It didn t take a great genius to
work out that Shabbetai Tzvi was not leading the Jews to redemption. In fact, he wasn t even getting
out of jail. In addition, there were worrying reports emerging from the jail of his involvement in
immoral activities with young women who were being supplied to him on a regular

I Have An Avid Golfer
I have been an avid golfer, ever since I was five years old. I aspired to be like the profession ladies I
would watch golf on TV. Before my eight grade year, I thought it would be a good idea to attend an
LPGA event. At this age, it would be perfect, because I am young enough that I can get into these
tournament for free with an adult, and I am old enough that I would know what to watch for when I
am there. The only problem was, I had to pick a tournament that I could possibly be able to play in
one day. For most tournaments, there are certain requirements you have to meet to play in. Also, all of
the LPGA events were not close to Nebraska, they are all either on the coasts of the U.S. or in another
country.
The only tournament ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For professionals, that already have their tour card, they can enter into this tournament, along with
either being on the top 20 in tournament winnings, top 50 on the money list/Rolex Rankings, or again
have a sponsorship. So, in my dreams I could possibly qualify and participate in this tournament one
day.
There are around 160 players that qualify for this tournament and play on Thursday and Friday, but to
play for the weekend, they have to make the cut. To make the cut, the players have to shoot four over
par, which makes for high competition to make the cut. This would leave around 70 ladies that would
make the cut that get to play the rest of the weekend.
A few days before my dad and I leave for the tournament, I mentally prepare myself to know what I m
going to look for while I m there, so I can hopefully apply what I see to improve my game. This would
be a great learning experience for me. To watch the professionals and evaluate their swings,
alignment, etc. to apply to my golf game. So, when I start getting serious about golfing and enter high
school or enter into summer tournaments, I can be ahead of the game. Also, to know what kind of
competition I will have to deal with if I ever enter into this tournament.
So, my dad and I get to our hotel Wednesday night. We settle in before the next day to go to the
tournament. Thursday morning, we wake up bright

The Dalai Lama And Chinese Anger
As I was mindlessly scrolling through my news feed, I took an extra glance at a video titled Lady
Gaga and the Dalai Lama talk kindness . Needless to say I didn t pay much attention to it. Not too long
afterwards it was announced that Lady Gaga is now banned from China because of that video. This
sparked my interest quite a bit actually and I wanted to know more. The video itself showed nothing
offensive or jaw dropping, yet still the Chinese government took the liberty of firewalling the video.
Therefore, making it legally impossible for anyone using China s web browsers to watch it and make a
legitimate opinion on the video for themselves (Chinese Anger). After doing some brief research I
learned that his holiness the Dalai Lama himself, who is to Tibetan Buddhism as the Pope is to
Catholicism, has been in exile from China since 1959. Now why would the Chinese government have
such an important religious figure such as the Dalai Lama in exile and take the time to ban someone
for simply having a publicized chat with him?
In order to have a better understanding of this situation I would need to know who the Dalai Lama is
and what his position stands for. Why China has such a negative view of the Dalai Lama, while the
rest of the world seems to respect and honor him. And why China s government would censor a video
of the Dalai Lama, despite the video content being simple, respectful, and seemingly innocent.
The Dalai Lama is a Buddhist monk believed to be a manifestation

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scientific Management
Frederic Winslow Taylor (1865 1915) was an engineer and most importantly an innovator who affects
the way many organizations function even today. In his time he introduced the term of scientific
management which refers to a system where leaders are capable of managing and workers are able to
execute the tasks given by the managers in the most efficient and productive way in a mass production
environment with the basic element of job specialization (McKenna, 2012, p.7). According to Taylor,
scientific management should include the selection of the best qualified people to work in a company,
the incentives to work harder and as a result more efficient by awarding them with higher salaries as
well as the authority given to the managers to control and evaluate the working process. Also, dealing
with fatigue of labour force by implementing rest pauses. Taylor believed that in this way, managers
and employees would be more interested in work and would try to maintain their high wages and as a
consequence would be more productive (Bagad, 2008, p.20). In order to make this theory feasible he
developed four main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One drawback is that distinction of planning and doing has a negative impact especially on companies
with numerous and specialized human resources. In this case, neither people have the ability to be
creative and constructive nor have the opportunity to take an initiative (Ghuman and Aswathappa,
2010, p.135). Another drawback is that Taylor system can be described as an environment in which
workforce is treated as a machine and not as individuals who can influence the production of the firm
(Dutt, 2008, p.21).Finally, scientific management was largely criticized by the workers themselves due
to the fact that the efficiency which has a central role in company s productivity lead to a decrease in
demand for employees and made them insecure because there was a strong possibility to lose their
jobs (Singla, 2009 2010,

American Interest Groups
How do interest groups influence policy? Use examples to illustrate your answer.
Interest groups are no less a threat than they are an expression of freedom (Berry, 1984).
We start this essay with this famous quote from Berry introducing us to what exactly an interest group
is. Indeed in general, public opinion and people unaware of an interest group s actions might regard
interest groups in a negative light. The more famous interest groups can tend to generate a lot of
negative publicity. For instance, in the US one of the most famous interest groups is the National Rifle
Association, which defends the right to bear weapons. This, of course, has led to controversy
especially given the recent high school shootings in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But interest groups do not have a real place in congress. For them to affect motions in congress they
need to utilise their powers of persuasion to influence the right people.
So what characterises the force of an interest group? Let us examine quantity and quality. It is not so
much the number of members that makes an interest group influential, like many generally accepted
ideas, but more the quality of those members. To be influential, the members must be combative,
certainly rich, and must definitely occupy key offices in society. But the best interest groups should
have lot of members, as well as having rich and very active members.
If we look at history, particularly the nineteenth century, we can obviously say that bribing was one of
the most used tactics. It was the fastest way to have decisions approved, but nowadays, it is very
dangerous for interest groups to use any sort of sinister method. In general, the groups tend to abide by
the law to give legitimacy to their claims. Moreover, with the 1995 Reforms, the Lobbying Disclosure
Act allows congress to scrutinise the activities of interest groups and the interest groups must report
all the information relating to their activities in a very clear and concise manner. But we will see later,
that sometimes,

Feeding the Growing World Population
The quotations taken from Josh Schonwald and Marion Nestle support an alternative food system,
which includes technological methods to feed the growing world population while also protecting the
environment. Although both believe alternative food systems could be the change of our future, each
approach these subjects differently. Schonwald is not afraid to keep an open mind with the use of
technology, while Nestle focuses on important choices one needs to make for the environment. Both
of these come down to four factors that determine if alternative food systems should be accepted.
These factors include: food, environment, globalization and gender. The reasoning behind this is that
the journey our food goes through encounters the men and women and their roles. On top of that is
how our food choices affect the environment, our health and the local, even global communities in
which we live.
Food is a very important role when discussing alternative food systems. Not only does food keep us
alive everyday, it can provide many health benefits. As stated by Schonwald, We will soon have a
hamburger that won t cause heart attacks, but will stop them. How? You ll just take out the saturated
fat, and replace it with omega 3 fatty acids (Schonwald 125). Schonwald turns to technology when
looking at the our future food system. One example of this is petri dish meat. Schonwald believes this
will eliminate food borne illnesses because the production of meat can be made safe

Nursing Practice in a Given Scenario
Nursing Practice and Responsibilities 2 Introduction Many older people fear that a hospital stay could
leave them even more disabled than they were before. Unfortunately, there s new reason to believe
this fear is justified. Elderly patients who are hospitalized are at much higher risk of cognitive
problems afterward, according to a study published on Wednesday in the journal Neurology. Joan
would have to witness a number of stressful psychological factors. For one he would be unfamiliar
with his new surroundings. He had lived with his daughter in law and son for quite some time and
now was accustomed to that environment. He had adjusted to it. This new environment may be a
source of intimidation for him. He may be sharing a room with people he hardly knows and are hence
complete strangers to him. There may be several stressful triggers like a new bed, an eccentric smell,
the room being too hot or cold or having to eat cold or tasteless food. The sources of stress for and
threats to patients arise from circumstances of the hospital setting, the behaviour of hospital staff, the
patients own behaviour and the built hospital environment. Although anxiety and distress are negative
states that most people would choose to avoid anyway, they are particularly relevant when their
influence on physical recovery is examined. The various ways in which stress can slow recovery and
in which buffers against stress can speed recovery are of central importance to the training of

Comparison Of Escapism In Cathedral By Raymond Carver
Author Mandy Len Catron once said, [l]ove didn t happen to us. We re in love because we each made
the choice to be . While Raymond Carver frequently illustrated alcohol and relationships in his stories,
it was never in a positive light. Perhaps that was due to his work being a written reflection of life as he
knows it. When reading Carver s stories, it becomes evident the characters made the conscious
decision not to love or be in love as did Carver. In Popular Mechanics , a short story written by
Carver, the readers are immediately presented with a couple in the middle of a break up that results in
the male partner, now ex partner s, relocation. As the male partner prepares his belongings as well as
himself to leave, him and his female counterpart engage in a very physical fight where pushing,
shoving, cursing, and even tug of war, with their baby as the rope, takes place. The story concludes
with not only a split of the couple, but the baby as well. It is apparent the couple displayed in Popular
Mechanics engaged in a very unhealthy, unstable relationship that lacked compromise. Unlike the
couple in Popular Mechanics , the couple in Cathedral is not violent, but full of guilted compromise
and jealousy as well as the use of forms of escapism. In Cathedral , a second short story by Carver, a
couple has a disagreement over the wife s male friend, a blind man named Robert, temporarily staying
at their house. The husband is not a fan of blind people nor is he a fan of the fact Robert and his wife
have a long history, romantic or not, together. Despite the husband s feelings, he is guilted into
allowing her to have Robert over. The two men bond over scotch and a television show about
cathedrals. Throughout the story it is evident the couple lacks trust in one another as well as lacking an
open mind. It is no surprise Carver believes marriage puts an end to a relationship having assumed it
will always bring up new disagreements and force compromises as well as the occasional inability to
reach a compromise; however, his belief is also a reflection of life as he knew it. While most people
view marriage as the beginning of a great life ahead of them, Carver deemed it the end of it. Marriage

Total War During World War II
Definition:
What is meant by the concept of Total War? Total war is best described as a country s 100% effort. All
means of production and accomplishment are geared towards what is the best way to win a war.
How was WWII the maximum example of Total War? Most Allies and Axis countries, namely
Germany, had geared their economy towards pouring all their resources into the attempt of winning
the war. In no other war was this done as much as it was during World War II.
Mass Produced Warfare:
Compare the military production of the various major Allied and Axis powers during WWII. What
observations can you make about the outcome of the war based on this information? There are many

By not taking in other factors, and by looking at production amounts only, it is obvious that the Allies
would win. There was no means of resources that the Axis powers excelled in, and had few people
who fought in the war. Both sides of the war had at this time undergone industrial revolutions, had at
least somewhat equal caliber machinery. This means that it would be almost physically impossible for
the Axis to defeat the Allies.
Strategic Bombing:
What do the websites say about the effectiveness of bombing campaigns in disrupting the war effort of
the Axis during WWII? According to the majority of the information on the websites, the bombing
campaigns put in place by the Allies were not very effective. The main goal of the bombing campaigns
were to break the morale of the Axis citizens, specifically Germany. This was done by instead of fully
wiping out cities, leaving them only half damaged to show the power of the armies. However, these
bombings did little to no damage to the will of Germans. People still were willing to support the Nazi
cause. The German economy was very much destroyed, thanks to the bombing efforts, but military
production was still proceeding, as the Germans were prepared for the Total War involved. It is also
stated that as a result of the bombings, Germany s mobility was shrunken, as they could not move as
fast as they wanted.
What about the collateral damage involved? The amount of collateral damage that the

What Influenced The American Revolution
Throughout the years of 1750 1914, an age of revolutions broke out, causing a global change in
politics. The Enlightenment Ideals influenced this worldwide change, from the social contract,
separation of power, and natural rights. The social contract influenced the revolutions when all
middle/lower class people wanted equality in their country. Natural rights take place in the worldwide
revolutions because everyone wants to live with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Some
documents that influence these revolutions are the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution,
and The Saint Domingue Constitution of 1801. Natural rights influenced the French and Latin
American Revolutions because the citizens of these areas were yearning for change and needed a
government that would influence equality, and create a constitution to drop the hierarchy of citizens,
and fabricate a civil, utopian society that the citizens actually would appreciate a lifestyle that
acknowledges political and social freedom. As John Locke states, The end of law is not to abolish or
restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings capable of law,
where there is no law, there is no freedom. John Locke s quote inspired quite a handful ... Show more

Internet and Personal Privacy Essay
Internet and Personal Privacy
In the world of today most records can be easily accessed by a home computer. Even Governmental
records can be viewed. Some believe this has benefits, while others are screaming about invasion of
privacy. Heated debates can go on for many hours about this topic. Each side has people who devote
all their time and energy to see their side of the argument prevail.
The Freedom of Information Act which was established in 1966 states that all people shall have access
to federal records. This allows the public to be kept abreast of the workings in the government. Any

There are nine exemptions to the Freedom of Information Act, national security, internal agency rules,

Does the public s right to know out weigh one s personal privacy? The personal computer does make
privacy difficult. Databases have been created simply to hold ones personal information, and many
times these databases can be accessed by any computer geek. One such database is the National Crime
Information Center (NCIC), created by Herbert Hoover. This database holds information on every
American person ever arrested in the United States.
How could this information not be beneficial? Many times the information is neither accurate nor
complete. What could happen if the wrong hands accessed these files, such as a possible employer?
The computer has made this threat a reality. Ever wonder where junk mail comes from? Currently,
there is a database of the names, addresses, and marketing information on 120 million residents of the

can lead to more personal information.

Gondwana
Gondwana, the southern half of the ancient supercontinent Pangea and a supercontinent in its own
right, was composed of the continents and landmasses that we now call Antarctica, South America,
Africa, Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, the Arabian Peninsula and the Indian subcontinent. A
supercontinent is a large landmass that is made up of several continents and a subcontinent is a large
distinguishable part of a continent, an example being the part of Asia which contains India, Pakistan
and Bangladesh. Gondwana was first formed between 570 510 Mya (million years ago) and then
combined with another supercontinent, Laurasia, to form Pangea. It then split from Pangea between
280 200 Mya, with different resources stating different timeframes for this split. Around 180 165 Mya,
Gondwana started to split and the continents started drifting to where they are today. Back when
Gondwana existed, the climate on Earth was milder than what it is today and the average temperature
was significantly higher than the average temperature on Earth now. As a result of this climate, much
of Gondwana was covered in lush temperate rainforests. The geological event that caused these
continents to combine together and split apart from each other is called continental drift. The

weaknesses and some better then others. A few will be remembered forever and others lost in
obscurity. Some of the most famous are, Augustus better known as Octavian who was the first
emperor of Rome,. Marius who reorganized the arm, and created the most effective fighting force on

Antony tried to form his own senate and was planning to create a eastern empire with Cleopatra.
Octavian would not have this happen and declared war. Italy and the western provinces joined Rome
and in 31 B.C. Antony and Cleopatra were defeated in a naval battle but fled back to Egypt. Octavian
in 30 B.C. engaged Antony again in Egypt from land and sea and defeated his army. Both Antony and
Cleopatra committed suicide. With Egypt now under his control and all the lands he went throw
pledging loyalty to him Octavian was now the solo ruler of the entire Roman world.
Marius came from humble beginnings and was a military man before marrying Julia, making him the
uncle of Julius Caesar. He was not fond of protocol and had himself appointed the commander of all
African forces. Looking for soldiers he allowed the Roman poor to become soldiers. This was not the
practice of the day but unintentionally set in motion a radical change in the Roman military. He then
made quick work of the enemy in Africa with his new professionally trained army using new methods
introduced by Marius himself. However the northern border of Rome was failing and Rome looked to
Marius to save them. He did this with only two battles and saved Rome from the northern invaders.
With the northern threat gone he then created laws to give the veteran soldiers land after there time of
service was done. He also allowed Italian to be granted

women were depicted fully clothes, adorned with jewelry and sometimes presenting an offering to the
gods. Only sex workers, typically slaves or the educated hetairai/courtesans, and at times certain
goddesses, appeared nude in art, but these representations did not convey the same power as the
Doryphoros does for men. The common theme amongst all the depictions of women in art, is the
passivity of their nature. For instance, the Knidian Aphrodite catches the goddess in a moment of
vulnerability. Her shoulders are hunched, hand covering her genetalia in an attempt at modesty and her
passive posture does not inspire as much as the Doryphoros. The Knidian Aphrodite s body language
does not yield as much power or control to onlookers as the Doryphoros, but is meant to entice and
distract as women are said to do. Spivey suggests this is due to the stigma against women embodying
Aphrodite, goddess of love and desire, and taking on the roles patroned by Demeter, goddess of the
harvest and motherhood (Spivey, 177). The juxtaposition of these goddesses speaks to how it is up to
women to, in a sense, bring themselves up by straying away

Ethical Consequences Of Non-Sexual Dual Relationships
This paper will discuss the concept of non sexual dual relationships between Ms. C and Ms. R., and
the ethical consequences of relationships. This paper will also an ethical standard to use a guide when

Social workers should not engage in dual or multiple relationships with clients or former clients in
which there is a risk of exploitation or potential harm to the client. In instances when dual or multiple
relationships are unavoidable, social workers should take steps to protect clients and are responsible
for setting clear, appropriate, and culturally sensitive boundaries. (Dual or multiple relationships occur

Vans Warped Tour Research Paper
Have you ever had one of those days that were so extravagant it felt like a dream? One of the best
days of my life was spent at Vans Warped Tour. It is an outdoor concert where multiple bands play
throughout the day. Listening and seeing bands that I used to be obsessed with in 8th grade brought a
sense of nostalgia to my mind. The amount of sensations I experienced were overwhelming from the
moment we arrived to the moment we left. I remember arriving at Vans Warped Tour in Shakopee,
Minnesota at 9 o clock in the morning. We pulled into a broad field to park our car. As we got out of
the car, I saw how long the line was to get into the concert. We strolled our way down a massive hill to

The Psychological Abuse Of The Holocaust
There have been many atrocious acts that the world has had to endure, but there is not one that stands
out as much as the Holocaust . Millions of Jews were used as scapegoats because of the declining
economy. This all eventually led to the Germans trying to completely eradicate their race. Even
though the Germans did kill 7 million Jews there were many survivors of the Holocaust who live to
this day with profound effects in every facet of their life. The effects that we re looking at are: the
psychological abuse that the holocaust kids went through and how it affects them in them in their
everyday life in the present, how the adult survivors transmit their trauma unto to their kids, how
second generation holocaust are biologically different from the normal human, and how the Jews are
starting to go back to their homeland to deal with their stress.
The first point is the psychological abuse that the holocaust kids went through and how it affects them
in them in their everyday life in the present. During the Holocaust kids didn t generally survive due to
the fact that they couldn t perform the intense labor required in the labor camps. They had to grow up
quickly and assume roles that children wouldn t normally have to act out. Even though the children
were young they were surprisingly adept in adapting to their situation and using all of the resources
available to them at this time. Even with all of theses coping mechanisms and the protection of their
parents the

Analyzing the Character of Don John in William Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
The play Much Ado About Nothing was written and performed in the Elizabethan period. It was set in

comedy, except throughout the play you think it may end as an tragedy with lots of talk of death and
misery. The mood swings from light comedy to dark tragedy.

Software Security Is The Biggest E Commerce Retailer
Introduction
Software security is a concept of engineering software and it goes on functioning appropriately under
malicious attack. Majority of technologies accept the significance of this undertaking, but they require
assistance in understanding how to confront it. Best practices for software security leverage the sound
software engineering practices that include thinking about the security primarily in the software
lifecycle, understanding and knowing common threats (inclusive of pitfalls and flaws that are
language based), design for security and subjecting every software artifact to comprehensive objective
testing and risk analyses.
Security is an extent of the ability of the system for protecting information and data from unauthorized
access however still giving access to systems and people that are authorized. Attack can be seen as an
action taken against a computer system having the intent of causing harm, to it and this may take
numerous forms. It may refer to attempts aimed at accessing services or data, or modification of data,
or might be an intention of denying services for legitimate users.

The company should have done whatever they could to modify current facilities that could produce
the Nano. Although this would lead to less production, it would make sense. They should produce less
of the Nano in order to test its performance in the market. After a successful entry, plans should be
made for large scale production (a new plant). The CEO planned poorly for the future, even when the
product didn t even hit the market yet. His goal on minimal costs was his backbone for the Nano and
he relied heavily on this one feature. He should have undergone more market testing for his product
instead of assuming that everyone was going to go crazy for his product. He needed to come up with
the proper campaign that would attract customers for additional reasons other than cost. Everyone
already knows the price is extremely low, so ads should stress other qualities of the vehicle.
They need to ask themselves three questions: 1. What does our product exactly do? 2. Who is this

Analysis Of The Tumultuous Election Of 1800 Essay

Adams vs. Jefferson
The Tumultuous Election of 1800
Analytical Book Review
Adams vs Jefferson, The Tumultuous Election of 1800, describes the events of the infamous United
States Presidential Election of 1800, the election that forever changed the landscape of American
politics and reestablished the principles of the American Revolution. The election of 1800 was a battle
of two political powerhouses: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. They were two of America s
founding fathers who were once great friends, but were thrown against each other as adversaries with
the future of America in their hands.
John Ferling, the author, began by describing the events that occurred just prior to the election, and
painted the picture of John Adams travelling to Washington D.C. from his Massachusetts farm and
Thomas Jefferson from his hilltop lair of Monticello in Virginia symbolizing the differences among
Adam s northeastern simple farming roots and Jefferson s extravagant southern slave owning
background. From the start, the author explains (without tipping his hat to the debacle the system
would cause in the 1800 election) how in the 1796 and 1800 elections, the Constitution required the
practice of each political party nominating two presidential candidates, with the candidates with the
most votes becoming President and the second most becoming Vice President. The Federalists
nominated Adams and Charles Pinckney from South Carolina;

My Favorite Form Of News Satire And Old Greek Comedy
News satire is one of my favorite forms of comedy. News satire basically takes the news, something
that people see every day and is typically serious, and makes it funny. Sometimes it is just completely
fake or just exaggerated news. It could almost be considered incongruous because people do not
expect news to be funny at all, so the fact that it is turned into comedy makes it incongruous to its
regular nature. At the same time, it is also a form of comic relief . It provides people with relief from
the anxiety they might feel when watching or reading the regular news. Watching news satire you are
more likely to laugh than experience feeling of dread, concern, or worry. There can also be examples
of benign violation depending on the material, so that depends on the topic the comedian is talking
about and the way they decide to portray it. The delivery of the news is a big part of why it is so funny
as well. Typically comedians deliver it a deadpan manner. Deadpan means that it delivered in an
expressionless manner. Funny things said without emotion are funnier than things said with a lot ...

Constantine The Great And Flavius Valerius Constantinus
PART A
Constantine, more formally known as Constantine the Great or Flavius Valerius Constantinus, was
born on the 27th of February in possibly 280 CE. Constantine was a Roman, and subsequently
Emperor known to be Christian. Flavius Valerius Constantius, whom was an army officer, was his
father, whilst his mother is named Helena thought to possibly be a concubine of his father. His father
is known for being raised to the title of Caesar, becoming known as Constantius Chlorus, granted 3
years of peaceful rule due to the treachery of the previous ruler of Roman Britain. The key influences
for Constantine are firstly his father. Having been able to watch the ascendancy of his father to
Emperor, and follow in his footsteps to become Emperor of Rome himself it is clearly evident that
Constantine s father was a great role model. Constantine also found himself under the tutelage of
Diocletian after his father took him to the East Empire becoming known as a youth amongst the
leaders there.
PART B
Constantine is most notably recognized due to his leadership as Emperor of Rome, and the way in
which he gained power and held it for such a long time. The first thing that he is best known for is that
he was the first of the Roman Emperors to embrace the Christian faith, going against he paradigms
and religion of the time. Before Constantine, Christianity was tolerated, but much persecution ensued.

The Impact Of English As A Lingua Franca
English has undergone some changes in relation to its status in the world. Some years ago, it only
became the first or second language for several countries. Nowadays, alongside with the development
of information, communication, and technology the status of English becomes a lingua franca in the
world. That is, a language that is used as a means of communication between people with different
language. This change, of course, brings some impacts in the roles of English as a language. English is
not seen as a language for identity anymore. Yet, it functions mainly as a means of communication.
Added to this, the change of the English status as a lingua franca will also impact to the educational
sector especially in English Language Teaching (ELT). With regard to this issue, this paper tries to

Social Media Dangers
Dangers of Social Media
Social media is very dangerous now a days. It can cause many problems because of the amount of
people that are connected on social media. There are many reasons that social media is dangerous
because of people who get on their and try to lure children. Parents need to make sure they pay
attention to what their children are doing online because it can potentially hurt them later on in life.
Although many people believe that social media is very helpful because it allows people to connect
together, it is clear that social media is very dangerous due to cyberbullying, affects on face to face
interaction, and private information being spread.
Cyberbullying is the use of electronic messaging to bully someone. Cyberbullying is reported as an

Once this process has finished, the investment bank is paid a percentage of the sale as commission as
well as fees for the underwriting process. Due to the discount of the IPO from the estimate of the
market value, traditional IPOs normally trade much higher than the initial price (Clinton, 2011). Being
a long used and well known process, traditional IPOs allow for more choices of underwriters. Using
an investment bank with experience in traditional IPOs allows for the road show to give the high
profile investors a greater idea of the value of the company, and since the allocation of shares is done
during this process they can avoid over valuing the company. Nayantara Hensel writes that
underwriters who do less than three IPOs a year will average a first day price increase of 10%. On the
other hand Hensel also tells us that the average first day price increase for all traditional IPOs is 38%,
meaning a loss in the potential capitol for the company. The investment bank underwriting for a
traditional IPO normally gets a 7% underwriting fee of the amount earned or more, bringing the
potential money lost to 45 50%.
Auction Based IPO An auction based IPO uses the Internet to open a company s IPO stock for
purchase to more potential investors. This process allows a company to spend less on their underwrite
fees. The company

complex events, which a paranoid and scared group of people incorrectly linked. And while there were

Social Class Equality
The notions of social class and equality have always played a pervasive role in the history of America.
Every individual living in the world aspires to gain social standing and civil rights in their own
respective communities. This idea is depicted by the phrases Blackness , Double Victory , and Global
City. Because of the controversial view of blackness that white men had of African Americans, blacks
were seen as disparate from the majority of civilization. This lead to segregation and isolation of the
two races, which was further facilitated by the fact that African Americans had previously been slaves
that served their white masters, making them inferior to the white race. Similarly, women were treated
as inferior beings when compared to men, as if they were a minority group themselves. Both groups
had less civil rights and a low societal ranking, which caused them to push for equality. In the case of
the African Americans, they had pressed for social justice in the form of the Double V Campaign, in
which they win the war overseas and win the war of racism at home. It was thought that by fighting in
the army alongside whites against a common enemy, African Americans would be revered and be on
the same footing as the majority class. This was not the case, as blacks would continue to be slandered
and condemned in their hometowns with little to no change to the conditions they had prior to the war.
In contrast, women sought to increase their social standing through

Violence is disgusting, and should only be used as a last resort to fight evil, and must be limited to
what is necessary. After all, violence is against the nature of nature, rarely with the will of nature. For
that reason, in the face of violence, people tend to compromise and relax. However, one needs to be
aware of the dangers and, when necessary, enter the fight against evil. So where do we have
happiness? If not in our own soul, then where? Thomas does not think so, though, because the soul is
made for other things. We attain happiness through our souls, but not because of them (otherwise
simply being a human would be perfect happiness, as being human requires having a soul). Thus
Thomas concludes that, happiness is something belonging to the soul; but that which constitutes
happiness is something outside the soul. This life often does not make sense to us. It can seem like a
wildly fun ride one moment, and a terrifying roller coaster the next. Undeserving people often seem to
have it easy, while the really good ones can get thrown to the ground over and over again.

The Culture Of The 1960 s
During our first module of Performance Cultures, we explored and researched into the counter
cultures of the 1960 s; how those movements shaped not only the development of the performance
world but also the culture of modern day life. A prominent factor in the culture of the 1960 s was the
art of protest. We as class researched heavily into the different areas of protest during that time, as it
really was an era in which the people fought back against governments and elitist institutes. To begin,
we looked at the Hippie culture; their shared beliefs and the changes they were trying to make in the
world. Many hippies used music to portray their political and cultural views. The use of music meant
that the messages were available to all, instead of being restricted to those with the right education on
politics. A huge proprietor within the hippie society was Bob Dylan who used the music industry to
spread their messages through songs such as Masters of War (1963) and Blowin in the Wind (1963).
Protest songs were not only used throughout the hippie movement, but are a thread that ties together
many of the counter cultures in the 1960 s such as punk, and black rights movements through soul and
funk music. I particularly enjoyed this area of study; being a trained and experienced singer, I very
much took advantage of a situation in which I could learn more about the roots of the music industry
that I perform within. So, when we were asked to create our own protest

The Influence Of The Realism Movement In France
The Realism Movement in France
Gustave Courbet, a major influence of the Realism movement, defined Realism as a human
conclusion which awakened the very forces of man against paganism, Greco Roman art, the
Renaissance, Catholicism, and the gods and demigods, in short against the conventional ideal (New
World Encyclopedia). According to the Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary, the definition of
realism is the theory or practice in art or literature of fidelity to nature or to real life and to accurate
representation without idealization of the most typical views, details, and surroundings of the subject
(Merriam Webster). Realism was an artistic and cultural movement that first occurred in Europe
during the mid nineteenth century. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was based on direct observation of the modern world, with more focus on the life of the majority
and not just the elite. Writers and artists started to move away from the old traditions and styles and
started to portray reality. Realist writers tried to accurately reflect social conditions in their novels, and
realist painters created works with almost photographic attention to detail ( Notes ).
Literary Realism began as a cultural movement with its roots in France, where it rapidly spread to
different countries in Europe. In literature, realism came into being as a response to Romanticism, and
it was an attempt to focus literature on the objective and the concrete. Early theorists of Realism
advocated a plain writing style, devoid of moral intention or authorial interpretation, that was
primarily concerned with character and represented common people engaged in everyday activities (
French ). Authors began writing works that possessed several unique characteristics such as the
stories, or plots, being simple and secondary to the characters who tended to be from the lower or
middle class and spoke the way people really heard them. They were portrayed in their social setting,
which shaped their actions and their choices. The physical and social surroundings were illustrated in
painstaking detail to convey the ideology of the

How Does Social Media Affect Women
How and Why Does Media Affect Young Women?
In recent years, social media has flown to increasing popularity. People spend hours scrolling their
Instagram feed touching up their pictures to put forth their best looks, updating their Snapchat stories
and sending messages with funny faces to friends, trying to stay connected to the world. Social media
stars have found a new array of followers and idolizers. All over the world, people inspire to be like
that one person with 3,000 followers or 8 million comparing their dazzling looks to their own dull
appearance. Although media can help connect the world, it also forces people to compare themselves
to others; Social media is a toxic playing field for young women because these comparisons bring low
self esteem and a rise in mental illness.
Authors Jakobsons, Simmons, and Kellas all agree on one basic idea, social media can affect teen s
mental health. Jakobsons and Kellas both argue that this age of visual platforms makes teens feel
inadequate, compared to others. Comparisons can bring pressure to look perfect, resulting in a higher
risk of anxiety and depression. Though Simmon s dispute revolves more towards the negative body
image teens can develop when looking at their feed, she also agrees on the ties it has with mental
illness. However, unlike Jakobsons and Kellas, Simmons feels that teens should not be so easily
bought in with the images they see on their screens, but should look with the same critical eye as seen
through with movies and magazines. On the other hand, Kellas brings in the fact that social media, has
made teens feel below average in beauty, intelligence and worth. Authors Jakobsons and Simmons
both acknowledge that in order to help with the negative effects of social media parents should talk to
their children about feeling confident and letting them know they are perfect the way they are. Rachel
Simmons, author of Odd Girl Out and a leader development specialist at Smiths College, argues in her
article How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror that social media has become a way for teens to critique
themselves and can create poor eating habits, leading to pro anorexia due to the increase of wellness
industries. It has long been understood

Capital Punishment is Cruel And Unusual Essay
The following description of Evans s electrocution was sworn to and verified by Russell F. Canan on
June 22, 1983:
The first jolt of 1900 volts of electricity passed through Mr. Evans body. It lasted thirty seconds.
Sparks and flame erupted from the electrode tied to his leg. His body slammed against the straps
holding him in the electric chair and his fist clenched permanently. A large puff of grayish smoke and
sparks poured out from under the hood that covered his face. An overpowering stench of burnt flesh
and clothing began pervading the witness room. Two doctors examined Mr. Evans and declared that
he was not dead. The electrode on the left leg was refastened. At 8:30 p.m. [sic] Mr. Evans was
administered a second thirty second jolt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming that the killer is capable of such reasoning shows us the arrogance of our kind. In fact, those
who commit violent crimes often do so in moments of passion, rage and fear times when irrationality
reigns (Information, Capital Punishment 107). Killing a human being as prevention to crime is, in
essence, using a human being as a means rather than an ends.
Other Christians I previously spoke to believe that, the killer s actions are irreversible and that such a
crime deserves an equal punishment . These same people would cite the biblical passage that exhorts
an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth . However, if a crime deserves equal punishment, then why do
we not rape the rapist or burn the arsonist? A civilized society must be based on values and principles
that are higher than those it condemns. Biblically, we are called to live by higher values. In the New
Testament, Jesus said that we may have heard it said an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth but He
instructed us to turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:38 41) to love even our enemies (Matthew 5:43 45),
to obey the Ten Commandments which tell us not to kill (Exodus 20:13) and not to put ourselves into
the position of God by judging whether others live or die (John 8:7). Vengeance and retribution are to
be left to God, who is the only One with the perfect capabilities of judgment. If the argument is that
serious crimes

Alcoholics Anonymous Support Group
In the United States, there are many support groups and programs available to individuals seeking
recovery from hardships, addictions, or struggles. Members with similar experiences meet together to
encourage, advise, and provide support for one another in order to promote recovery. One well known
support group, Alcoholics Anonymous, is a 12 step program a support group that applies a series of 12
steps in order to achieve recovery. 12 step programs and support groups can be spotted almost
anywhere, including at churches, medical facilities, as well as in schools. AA s 12 step program and

The 12 step program gives the impression that it has the capability of helping clients through alcohol
abuse in its systematic, recovery focused, and empathetic approach. AA s 12 steps, from having
admitted we were powerless over alcohol... to having a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps
helps guide a person from alcoholism to sobriety (Alcoholics Anonymous [AA], 2001, pp. 59 60). The
steps are easy to follow checkpoints in the steps to sobriety, and because they are verbalized at every
meeting, they reinforce a recovery mindset from alcoholism. This recovery approach emphasized in
AA minimizes any particular focus on past struggles and magnifies progress, and as a member
described, the group s positivity and numerous success stories encouraged them to continue being
sober (Personal communication, November 15,

Comparison Of Pipe Dreams And In Love Again
The melodies in the music ranged from low to high and high to low. For instance, Dirty Fork is an
upbeat funk song with a high pitch. In Pipe Dreams, the pitch changed from high to low. Only a few
songs such as Be Bop, Brushes Anyone? Pot Luck, and In Love Again had a hummable melody. For
example, Be Bop, the saxophone melody returned in another part of the song without any changes to
the piece. While in Brushes Anyone, the drum melody changed to a saxophone melody. In Pot Luck,
there were two melodies with the trumpets and saxophone section and the trombones and drums. The
two melodies were similar, and the pitches changed from low to high. In Love Again, began with a
drum melody and the guitar and piano were slowly added to the melody. As

The Vietnam War Was A Long And Costly Conflict Causes if the Vietnam War Before WWII Vietnam belonged to the French Empire but during the war, it was taken over by the Japanese but since they were being defeated they retreated back to Japan. This gave the chance to the Vietnamese people to create their own government led by Ho Chi Minh but at the end of the war, the south was given back to the french while the north was led by the Chinese, who was not communist at the time, so Ho Chi Minh lost all his power. When the Chinese pulled out in 1946 the Ho Chi Minh party took over The Viet Minh and by October the French stated their intention of reuniting back with north but it would all be under the french rule so the Viet Minh prepared to fight back. The Vietnam war took place because North Vietnam was fighting to unify Vietnam but the US intervened and helped the communist takeover. This was part of a larger plan from the US to eliminate communism. Major Significant Events: The Spring Offensive The 1975 Spring Offensive was a series of large offensive operations to force south Vietnam and it s rallied back and eventually defeat the armed forces.and force the government to surrender. After initial success, North Vietnam increased its attack and continued to push forward. This was also the initial idea of the Easter offensive in 1972 but it failed due to strong US forces but due to decreases in American military aid which was south Vietnam s main power the spring offensive was successful. Unable to fight back and cope without the large US support south Vietnam collapsed causing large numbers of casualties. South Vietnam s immediate action was to regroup its forces and decrease the area that its troops had to defend, thereby surrendering space for time. The legend fed on itself the more people who believed that Shabbetai Tzvi was the Messiah, the more ambassadors there were for the cause. With the excitement growing, and the anticipation increasing, Shabbetai Tzvi and his acolytes decided it was time to inform the Ottoman authorities, and in particular the Sultan, about his Messianic mission, and to request their full cooperation. In early 1666, Shabbetai Tzvi set sail for Constantinople. Rough seas disrupted the ten day journey, and the ship floundered for more than a month. Meanwhile, the news of his imminent appearance in the Ottoman capital created a massive stir, and the Jewish community leadership struggled to formulate a cogent strategy. While they ... So great was the influx of pilgrims that food prices began to rise, while local boat owners charged exorbitant rates to ferry the believers to the prison fortress and back. The surreal pantomime continued for several months and the date of redemption came and went but the hysteria continued unabated. On 17 Tammuz, Shabbetai Tzvi ate and so did his supporters. Then, during the traditional three weeks of mourning, Shabbetai Tzvi announced he was cancelling the fast of Tisha B Av, a decision hailed by his followers as a new high point of the redemptive era. But by now the penny was beginning to drop. Things were not really going as planned, and nothing seemed to match Nathan s ever escalating predictions and prophecies . It didn t take a great genius to work out that Shabbetai Tzvi was not leading the Jews to redemption. In fact, he wasn t even getting out of jail. At this age, it would be perfect, because I am young enough that I can get into these tournament for free with an adult, and I am old enough that I would know what to watch for when I am there. The only problem was, I had to pick a tournament that I could possibly be able to play in one day. For most tournaments, there are certain requirements you have to meet to play in. There are around 160 players that qualify for this tournament and play on Thursday and Friday, but to play for the weekend, they have to make the cut. To make the cut, the players have to shoot four over par, which makes for high competition to make the cut. This would leave around 70 ladies that would make the cut that get to play the rest of the weekend. A few days before my dad and I leave for the tournament, I mentally prepare myself to know what I m going to look for while I m there, so I can hopefully apply what I see to improve my game. Needless to say I didn t pay much attention to it. Not too long afterwards it was announced that Lady Gaga is now banned from China because of that video. This sparked my interest quite a bit actually and I wanted to know more. The video itself showed nothing offensive or jaw dropping, yet still the Chinese government took the liberty of firewalling the video. Therefore, making it legally impossible for anyone using China s web browsers to watch it and make a legitimate opinion on the video for themselves (Chinese Anger). After doing some brief research I learned that his holiness the Dalai Lama himself, who is to Tibetan Buddhism as the Pope is to Catholicism, has been in exile from China since 1959. Now why would the Chinese government have such an important religious figure such as the Dalai Lama in exile and take the time to ban someone for simply having a publicized chat with him? In order to have a better understanding of this situation I would need to know who the Dalai Lama is and what his position stands for. Why China has such a negative view of the Dalai Lama, while the rest of the world seems to respect and honor him. And why China s government would censor a video of the Dalai Lama, despite the video content being simple, respectful, and seemingly innocent. • 8. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Scientific Management Frederic Winslow Taylor (1865 1915) was an engineer and most importantly an innovator who affects the way many organizations function even today. In his time he introduced the term of scientific management which refers to a system where leaders are capable of managing and workers are able to execute the tasks given by the managers in the most efficient and productive way in a mass production environment with the basic element of job specialization (McKenna, 2012, p.7). According to Taylor, scientific management should include the selection of the best qualified people to work in a company, the incentives to work harder and as a result more efficient by awarding them with higher salaries as well as the authority given to the managers to control and evaluate the working process. Also, dealing with fatigue of labour force by implementing rest pauses. Taylor believed that in this way, managers and employees would be more interested in work and would try to maintain their high wages and as a consequence would be more productive (Bagad, 2008, p.20). Interest groups are no less a threat than they are an expression of freedom (Berry, 1984). We start this essay with this famous quote from Berry introducing us to what exactly an interest group is. Indeed in general, public opinion and people unaware of an interest group s actions might regard interest groups in a negative light. The more famous interest groups can tend to generate a lot of negative publicity. For instance, in the US one of the most famous interest groups is the National Rifle Association, which defends the right to bear weapons. For them to affect motions in congress they need to utilise their powers of persuasion to influence the right people. So what characterises the force of an interest group? Let us examine quantity and quality. It is not so much the number of members that makes an interest group influential, like many generally accepted ideas, but more the quality of those members. To be influential, the members must be combative, certainly rich, and must definitely occupy key offices in society. But the best interest groups should have lot of members, as well as having rich and very active members. If we look at history, particularly the nineteenth century, we can obviously say that bribing was one of the most used tactics. It was the fastest way to have decisions approved, but nowadays, it is very dangerous for interest groups to use any sort of sinister method. In general, the groups tend to abide by the law to give legitimacy to their claims. Moreover, with the 1995 Reforms, the Lobbying Disclosure Act allows congress to scrutinise the activities of interest groups and the interest groups must report all the information relating to their activities in a very clear and concise manner. • 10. Feeding the Growing World Population The quotations taken from Josh Schonwald and Marion Nestle support an alternative food system, which includes technological methods to feed the growing world population while also protecting the environment. Although both believe alternative food systems could be the change of our future, each approach these subjects differently. Schonwald is not afraid to keep an open mind with the use of technology, while Nestle focuses on important choices one needs to make for the environment. Both of these come down to four factors that determine if alternative food systems should be accepted. These factors include: food, environment, globalization and gender. The reasoning behind this is that the journey our food goes through encounters the men and women and their roles. On top of that is how our food choices affect the environment, our health and the local, even global communities in which we live. Food is a very important role when discussing alternative food systems. Not only does food keep us alive everyday, it can provide many health benefits. As stated by Schonwald, We will soon have a hamburger that won t cause heart attacks, but will stop them. How? You ll just take out the saturated fat, and replace it with omega 3 fatty acids (Schonwald 125). Schonwald turns to technology when looking at the our future food system. Nursing Practice in a Given Scenario Nursing Practice and Responsibilities 2 Introduction Many older people fear that a hospital stay could leave them even more disabled than they were before. Unfortunately, there s new reason to believe this fear is justified. Elderly patients who are hospitalized are at much higher risk of cognitive problems afterward, according to a study published on Wednesday in the journal Neurology. Joan would have to witness a number of stressful psychological factors. For one he would be unfamiliar with his new surroundings. He had lived with his daughter in law and son for quite some time and now was accustomed to that environment. He had adjusted to it. This new environment may be a source of intimidation for him. He may be sharing a room with people he hardly knows and are hence complete strangers to him. There may be several stressful triggers like a new bed, an eccentric smell, the room being too hot or cold or having to eat cold or tasteless food. The sources of stress for and threats to patients arise from circumstances of the hospital setting, the behaviour of hospital staff, the patients own behaviour and the built hospital environment. Although anxiety and distress are negative states that most people would choose to avoid anyway, they are particularly relevant when their influence on physical recovery is examined. The various ways in which stress can slow recovery and in which buffers against stress can speed recovery are of central importance to the training of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Comparison Of Escapism In Cathedral By Raymond Carver Author Mandy Len Catron once said, [l]ove didn t happen to us. We re in love because we each made the choice to be . While Raymond Carver frequently illustrated alcohol and relationships in his stories, it was never in a positive light. Perhaps that was due to his work being a written reflection of life as he knows it. When reading Carver s stories, it becomes evident the characters made the conscious decision not to love or be in love as did Carver. In Popular Mechanics , a short story written by Carver, the readers are immediately presented with a couple in the middle of a break up that results in the male partner, now ex partner s, relocation. As the male partner prepares his belongings as well as himself to leave, him and his female counterpart engage in a very physical fight where pushing, shoving, cursing, and even tug of war, with their baby as the rope, takes place. The story concludes with not only a split of the couple, but the baby as well. It is apparent the couple displayed in Popular Mechanics engaged in a very unhealthy, unstable relationship that lacked compromise. Unlike the couple in Popular Mechanics , the couple in Cathedral is not violent, but full of guilted compromise and jealousy as well as the use of forms of escapism. In Cathedral , a second short story by Carver, a couple has a disagreement over the wife s male friend, a blind man named Robert, temporarily staying at their house. The husband is not a fan of blind people nor is he a fan of the fact Robert and his wife have a long history, romantic or not, together. Despite the husband s feelings, he is guilted into allowing her to have Robert over. The two men bond over scotch and a television show about cathedrals. Throughout the story it is evident the couple lacks trust in one another as well as lacking an open mind. It is no surprise Carver believes marriage puts an end to a relationship having assumed it will always bring up new disagreements and force compromises as well as the occasional inability to reach a compromise; however, his belief is also a reflection of life as he knew it. While most people view marriage as the beginning of a great life ahead of them, Carver deemed it the end of it. Marriage brings upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This means that it would be almost physically impossible for the Axis to defeat the Allies. Strategic Bombing: What do the websites say about the effectiveness of bombing campaigns in disrupting the war effort of the Axis during WWII? According to the majority of the information on the websites, the bombing campaigns put in place by the Allies were not very effective. The main goal of the bombing campaigns were to break the morale of the Axis citizens, specifically Germany. This was done by instead of fully wiping out cities, leaving them only half damaged to show the power of the armies. However, these bombings did little to no damage to the will of Germans. The German economy was very much destroyed, thanks to the bombing efforts, but military production was still proceeding, as the Germans were prepared for the Total War involved. The Enlightenment Ideals influenced this worldwide change, from the social contract, separation of power, and natural rights. The social contract influenced the revolutions when all middle/lower class people wanted equality in their country. Natural rights take place in the worldwide revolutions because everyone wants to live with life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Some documents that influence these revolutions are the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, and The Saint Domingue Constitution of 1801. Natural rights influenced the French and Latin American Revolutions because the citizens of these areas were yearning for change and needed a government that would influence equality, and create a constitution to drop the hierarchy of citizens, and fabricate a civil, utopian society that the citizens actually would appreciate a lifestyle that acknowledges political and social freedom. In Revealing Aphrodite, Nigel Spivey describes the nude Knidian Aphrodite of Praxiteles and its cultural legacy in the understanding of societal expectations of ancient Greek women. Respected women were depicted fully clothes, adorned with jewelry and sometimes presenting an offering to the gods. Only sex workers, typically slaves or the educated hetairai/courtesans, and at times certain goddesses, appeared nude in art, but these representations did not convey the same power as the Doryphoros does for men. The common theme amongst all the depictions of women in art, is the passivity of their nature. For instance, the Knidian Aphrodite catches the goddess in a moment of vulnerability. Her shoulders are hunched, hand covering her genetalia in an attempt at modesty and her passive posture does not inspire as much as the Doryphoros. The Knidian Aphrodite s body language does not yield as much power or control to onlookers as the Doryphoros, but is meant to entice and distract as women are said to do. Spivey suggests this is due to the stigma against women embodying Aphrodite, goddess of love and desire, and taking on the roles patroned by Demeter, goddess of the harvest and motherhood (Spivey, 177). The juxtaposition of these goddesses speaks to how it is up to women to, in a sense, bring themselves up by straying away ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Tumultuous Election Of 1800 Essay Jack Norman Mr. Nicholls Period 7 November 4, 2016 Adams vs. Jefferson The Tumultuous Election of 1800 Analytical Book Review Adams vs Jefferson, The Tumultuous Election of 1800, describes the events of the infamous United States Presidential Election of 1800, the election that forever changed the landscape of American politics and reestablished the principles of the American Revolution. The election of 1800 was a battle of two political powerhouses: John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. They were two of America s founding fathers who were once great friends, but were thrown against each other as adversaries with the future of America in their hands. John Ferling, the author, began by describing the events that occurred just prior to the election, and painted the picture of John Adams travelling to Washington D.C. from his Massachusetts farm and Thomas Jefferson from his hilltop lair of Monticello in Virginia symbolizing the differences among Adam s northeastern simple farming roots and Jefferson s extravagant southern slave owning background. From the start, the author explains (without tipping his hat to the debacle the system would cause in the 1800 election) how in the 1796 and 1800 elections, the Constitution required the practice of each political party nominating two presidential candidates, with the candidates with the most votes becoming President and the second most becoming Vice President. • 31. My Favorite Form Of News Satire And Old Greek Comedy News satire is one of my favorite forms of comedy. News satire basically takes the news, something that people see every day and is typically serious, and makes it funny. Sometimes it is just completely fake or just exaggerated news. It could almost be considered incongruous because people do not expect news to be funny at all, so the fact that it is turned into comedy makes it incongruous to its regular nature. At the same time, it is also a form of comic relief . It provides people with relief from the anxiety they might feel when watching or reading the regular news. Watching news satire you are more likely to laugh than experience feeling of dread, concern, or worry. There can also be examples of benign violation depending on the material, so that depends on the topic the comedian is talking about and the way they decide to portray it. The delivery of the news is a big part of why it is so funny as well. Typically comedians deliver it a deadpan manner. Deadpan means that it delivered in an expressionless manner. Constantine The Great And Flavius Valerius Constantinus PART A Constantine, more formally known as Constantine the Great or Flavius Valerius Constantinus, was born on the 27th of February in possibly 280 CE. Constantine was a Roman, and subsequently Emperor known to be Christian. Flavius Valerius Constantius, whom was an army officer, was his father, whilst his mother is named Helena thought to possibly be a concubine of his father. His father is known for being raised to the title of Caesar, becoming known as Constantius Chlorus, granted 3 years of peaceful rule due to the treachery of the previous ruler of Roman Britain. The key influences for Constantine are firstly his father. Having been able to watch the ascendancy of his father to Emperor, and follow in his footsteps to become Emperor of Rome himself it is clearly evident that Constantine s father was a great role model. Constantine also found himself under the tutelage of Diocletian after his father took him to the East Empire becoming known as a youth amongst the leaders there. PART B Constantine is most notably recognized due to his leadership as Emperor of Rome, and the way in which he gained power and held it for such a long time. The first thing that he is best known for is that he was the first of the Roman Emperors to embrace the Christian faith, going against he paradigms and religion of the time. Due to the discount of the IPO from the estimate of the market value, traditional IPOs normally trade much higher than the initial price (Clinton, 2011). Being a long used and well known process, traditional IPOs allow for more choices of underwriters. Using an investment bank with experience in traditional IPOs allows for the road show to give the high profile investors a greater idea of the value of the company, and since the allocation of shares is done during this process they can avoid over valuing the company. Nayantara Hensel writes that underwriters who do less than three IPOs a year will average a first day price increase of 10%. On the other hand Hensel also tells us that the average first day price increase for all traditional IPOs is 38%, meaning a loss in the potential capitol for the company. Every individual living in the world aspires to gain social standing and civil rights in their own respective communities. This idea is depicted by the phrases Blackness , Double Victory , and Global City. Because of the controversial view of blackness that white men had of African Americans, blacks were seen as disparate from the majority of civilization. This lead to segregation and isolation of the two races, which was further facilitated by the fact that African Americans had previously been slaves that served their white masters, making them inferior to the white race. Similarly, women were treated as inferior beings when compared to men, as if they were a minority group themselves. Both groups had less civil rights and a low societal ranking, which caused them to push for equality. In the case of the African Americans, they had pressed for social justice in the form of the Double V Campaign, in which they win the war overseas and win the war of racism at home. It was thought that by fighting in the army alongside whites against a common enemy, African Americans would be revered and be on the same footing as the majority class. The Culture Of The 1960 s During our first module of Performance Cultures, we explored and researched into the counter cultures of the 1960 s; how those movements shaped not only the development of the performance world but also the culture of modern day life. A prominent factor in the culture of the 1960 s was the art of protest. We as class researched heavily into the different areas of protest during that time, as it really was an era in which the people fought back against governments and elitist institutes. To begin, we looked at the Hippie culture; their shared beliefs and the changes they were trying to make in the world. Many hippies used music to portray their political and cultural views. The use of music meant that the messages were available to all, instead of being restricted to those with the right education on politics. A huge proprietor within the hippie society was Bob Dylan who used the music industry to spread their messages through songs such as Masters of War (1963) and Blowin in the Wind (1963). Protest songs were not only used throughout the hippie movement, but are a thread that ties together many of the counter cultures in the 1960 s such as punk, and black rights movements through soul and funk music. Literary Realism began as a cultural movement with its roots in France, where it rapidly spread to different countries in Europe. In literature, realism came into being as a response to Romanticism, and it was an attempt to focus literature on the objective and the concrete. Early theorists of Realism advocated a plain writing style, devoid of moral intention or authorial interpretation, that was primarily concerned with character and represented common people engaged in everyday activities ( French ). People spend hours scrolling their Instagram feed touching up their pictures to put forth their best looks, updating their Snapchat stories and sending messages with funny faces to friends, trying to stay connected to the world. Social media stars have found a new array of followers and idolizers. All over the world, people inspire to be like that one person with 3,000 followers or 8 million comparing their dazzling looks to their own dull appearance. Although media can help connect the world, it also forces people to compare themselves to others; Social media is a toxic playing field for young women because these comparisons bring low self esteem and a rise in mental illness. Authors Jakobsons, Simmons, and Kellas all agree on one basic idea, social media can affect teen s mental health. Jakobsons and Kellas both argue that this age of visual platforms makes teens feel inadequate, compared to others. Comparisons can bring pressure to look perfect, resulting in a higher risk of anxiety and depression. Though Simmon s dispute revolves more towards the negative body image teens can develop when looking at their feed, she also agrees on the ties it has with mental illness. However, unlike Jakobsons and Kellas, Simmons feels that teens should not be so easily bought in with the images they see on their screens, but should look with the same critical eye as seen through with movies and magazines. On the other hand, Kellas brings in the fact that social media, has made teens feel below average in beauty, intelligence and worth. Authors Jakobsons and Simmons both acknowledge that in order to help with the negative effects of social media parents should talk to their children about feeling confident and letting them know they are perfect the way they are. Rachel Simmons, author of Odd Girl Out and a leader development specialist at Smiths College, argues in her article How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror that social media has become a way for teens to critique themselves and can create poor eating habits, leading to pro anorexia due to the increase of wellness industries.
