Essay on Canadian s Aging Population
There is diversity among all Canadian, hence there is differences among the aging population. Not
all seniors are aging well and have the appropriate programs and services to meet their needs.
Some seniors are victims of abuse and some are living in isolation and poverty. Some seniors suffer
from chronic illness and other socio economic factors limit the amount of money they can put away
for retirement. Hence these middle and low income elderly retirees will have to depend mainly on
the pension plan that is offered between the age of 60 65. The age of 60 65 is regarded in Canada
as the age of retirement. This paper will focus mainly on the disadvantaged older populations. The

These concerns were reinforced by the fact that many elderly Canadians were applying for
public relief. However, it was not until several provinces began complaining about the
amounting cost of relief that lead to the federal old age pension scheme. Guest (as sited in
Chappell, 2006) the federal government made a commitment to assist the elderly and the old
age pensions act was established in 1927. All Canadians were entitled once they reach the age of
seventy or older in contrast to today, one can retire at the age of 60 65. The Canadian
government eventually shared the cost of relief with the provincial government. The old age
pension act has been criticized because of the inadequate in benefit pay outs. According to Guest
(as sited in Chappell, 2006) in 1951, the old age pension was replaced by two pension plans, Old
Age Security and Old Age Assistance. The Old Age Security provides universal benefits and was
funded by the federal government while the Old Age Assistance was funded by the federal and
provincial government and managed by the province. As Guest (1997) pointed out, The Canadian
Pension plan and Quebec Pension Plan was introduced in 1965 which individuals could collect
once they retired, however they had to have made contribution between the ages of eighteen to
seventy years of their working life.

Comparing Cassia And Ky s Journey To A Cruel Society
The book Crossed, by Ally Condie, was about Cassia and Ky s journey to find The Rising . This
book was an awkward transitional book that I painfully pushed through to be able to read the
next edition. It started where the previous book left off, the Society placed the two in different
places, and following that, the book quickly escalated in terms of violence. From what started as
a sappy romance novel (which in my opinion, was quite enjoyable for just some light reading),
turned into a fight for your life adventure across the canyon to find the rebellion. Ky travels to a
camp as a decoy villager with other boys that are even much younger than he is in the Outer
Provinces. The cruel society has just sent the boys there to die from the enemy shootings that
happen frequently. Ky... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cassia, who at the time had been training for her Society occupation, decided to search for Ky.
She illegally boarded a ship and very coincidentally ended up where Ky had been right before he
left for the canyons. After Cassia, too, decided to go to the canyons, the plot of the book quickly
declined in interest and variety. After a few deaths, and about a little more than 100 pages, Cassia
and Ky find each other, again, very coincidentally, and have a very dramatic reunion with a lot of
poetry. In the previous book, poetry was Cassia s inspiration to keep fighting for Ky. In this book,
it is a recurring theme, but by overuse, it has consequently become a little excessive. It s very
repetitive, although I understand the main characters general inspiration comes from the

Analysis Of The Movie The 1991 Beating Of Rodney King
The 1991 beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police provides rich case material in how an
attack perceived as unjust can backfire. George H. W. Bush said, The last thing the leaders of
Los Angeles expected in the early 1990s was that their city would become the scene of the nation

Los Angeles race riots that occurred as a result of Rodney Kings arrest in 1991 exemplified the deep
tensions between black citizens and the policeforce which caused a change in police policy.
Rodney King at the age of twenty two was on parole for beating his girlfriend while she was
sleeping. King then went on to drag her outside the house and beat her again. King was charged
with battery and pleaded no contest. He was then placed on probation and ordered to obtain
counseling. He never got the counseling. Weeks pass and one day King enters a corner store
with a tire iron. King, swinging a tire iron, ordered a convenience store clerk to empty the cash
register. The clerk grabbed the tire iron, causing King to fall backwards and knock over a pie
rack. King swung the rack at the clerk and fled the store with two hundred dollars. King was
arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, second degree robbery, and intent to
commit great bodily injury. In an agreement, King pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and the
other charges were dropped. He was sentenced to two years in prison,

A Good Explanation Of The Evolution Of Human Behavior
1)Which proposal is a good explanation of the evolution of human behavior?
Human beings, like all other organisms, are a product of biological development and environmental
interactions. Behavior itself is a phenotypic trait, and as such, reflects a history of specific
interactions between genes, experience, and environment. Of the thirty eight proposals used to
explain the evolution of human behavior, sociobiology is the most plausible explanation.
Sociobiologists, including Edward O. Wilson, believe that human behavior, as well as non human
behavior, can be partly explained as the outcome of natural selection. E. O. Wilson, the author of
Sociobiology: the New Synthesis, popularized the term sociobiology as an attempt to explain the
evolutionary mechanics behind social behaviors such as altruism, aggression, and nurturance. The
fundamental principle guiding sociobiology is that an organism s evolutionary success is measured
by the extent to which its genes are represented in the next generation. It begins with the idea that
behaviors have evolved over time, similar to the way that physical traits are thought to have
evolved. This theory predicts that animals will act in ways that have proven to be evolutionarily
successful over time. This can then result in the formation of complex social processes conducive
to evolutionary fitness. An important concept in sociobiology is that temperamental traits within a
gene pool and between gene pools exist in an ecological

The Great Law Of Motion Of History Essay
The struggle inherent in putting forward what is hailed as the great law of motion of history (The
18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte 14) rests in ensuring that one s purported application of that law
is consistent with its abstract detailing. For example, in Karl Marx s theoretical works and
historical writing specifically The 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte the philosopher and
revolutionary consistently describes the conditions under which men must operate for them to have
a chance at restructuring their society and achieving emancipation. Marx illustrates across theory
and practice how mankind, though limited in its autonomy by the existing societal order, has an
opportunity to emancipate itself from the legal and political superstructure constructed
independently of its will when sufficiently focused, energized and united. Hence how Marx pays
enough heed to a particular, the ascent of Louis Napoleon, such that he can present it as reflective
of a greater universal principle: historical materialism. After all, we [must] not judge of such a
period of transformation by its own consciousness...this consciousness must be explained rather
from the existing conflict between the social productive forces and the relations of production.
(Marx on the History of His Opinions 5). Marx set out to detail, display and prove a universal law.
Insofar as his consideration of emancipation and the conditions necessary for it constitute that law,
he got at least two thirds of the

The Chimney Sweeper Compare And Contrast
Throughout world history their have been and are many occurrences of society corruption and
oppression of masses, such as the forcing of small children to sweep chimneys. Thus, William
Blake s Purpose in writing the two The Chimney Sweeper poems was to express his outrage at
society for having oppressed and stolen the innocence of powerless children in forcing them to
sweep. Both poems are similar in that he uses the actions and view point of the childspeaker to
express his rage against society, mostly through his verbal irony. However, the poems distinct in
that one shares the view point of an innocent child who hasn t yet fully experienced the corruption
of society , whereas the other one is one of a more experienced child who... Show more content on

However, the dream is full of irony in the readers eyes since they can see it has benefited the child
in no shape, way or form; it has only made them believe the church will be their savior so they can
willingly work for the church. Thus implementing, that society is so corrupt it brainwashes the
children to make them believe it is their duty to sweep your chimneys, thus depriving them of
individual rights without their consent. The second The Chimney Sweeper poem although it shares
the same setting and fury as Blake s point of view, the ultimate contrast is the speakers view
point; that of a more experienced sweeper who fully understands the cruel reality of his situation.
Thus unlike the first poem where the poets viewpoint is implemented, in this one his anger is
stated bluntly, which creates a harsh portray of chimney sweeping to the readers. Unlike the first
poem where he names the child, here the speaker is only portrayed as a black thing among the
snow thus depicting the neglect of society to view these children as actual citizens. Also, the
among the snow depicts a symbol of purity, however him being a black thing shows that his
hardships have rid him from his

Taking a Look at Vertex
Vertex claims the inventory costs of VLite are high, therefore tying practice is required to enhance
sales of VLite. It is indisputable that the Commission recognizes pro competitive effects of tying,
such as lowering manufacturing or distribution costs by economies of scale, which is found to be
important in this industry. According to para. 30 of the Guidance, Vertex has to prove that the tying
is indispensible to achieve the same efficiencies. Also, following Hilti Vertex needs to show that it
has taken other actions if possible in order to lower the inventory costs. Given such a high standard
of proof, it is very likely that Vertex would be found violated the Article 102(d) by contractual tying.
1.Conditional Rebate Scheme
Vertex introduced standardized and individualized target rebates to distributors in the Western
Europe. Target rebates may not be problematic if they are indeed genuine quantity based, but a
target rebate may be found abusive if it limits the buyer s freedom to choose (Michelin I).
Nonetheless, rebate schemes may result in suction effect the dominant firm lowers the average
price of its products and captures contestable sales which the firm was unable to capture before.
Vertex offered two largest distributors in the market rolled back target rebates. Under this scheme,
rebates were applied to the total turnover previously realized over a certain period. The court has

Methods and tools for studying children
This essay is a continuation to a previous assignment which discussed how attitudes towards
studying children have changed. In this child participation, child voice and consent were identified
as three key principles researchers should aspire to when studying children. This essay therefore
intends to extend upon these principles by identifying an approach and researchtool which will
effectively incorporate all principles within a research study.
The context of the research study is a male adult and male child sat at a potter s wheel modelling
clay. The aim of the study is to observe and assess the child s level of cognitive development
during an interactive period with an adult who is using the technique of scaffolding (Wood, Bruner,
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To overcome this problem the child will be encouraged to pause the video at intervals they
wished to talk about, thus the recording becomes more representable of a learning story; as the
child could help to produce still images of the video and place their comments under the
individual pictures. Although time consuming this process is very important as it not only
encourages child participation and strong voice of the child, it also reinforces the authenticity of
the overall research as the perspective of the child is being gained. This is an important factor as
observers do not always interpret observations correctly as people see and interpret things
differently (Hobart and Frankel, 2004) and although it is said the camera never lies, it may be
distorted (Sharman, Cross and Vennis, 2006)
By blending the method of a written narrative with aspects of the mosaic approach not only will a
detailed observation be obtained but arguably an observation with substance; as professionals do
not have to take the evaluation of the observation at face value, the data is there and available for
them to examine. The child actively engaging with the research study also adds another dimension,
as the actual views and actions of the participant are documented, arguably when research is
conducted via surveys, questionnaires and even interviews the data collected is constrained to the

The Word Voodoo Means Spirit Of The West African
The word voodoo means spirit in the West African. It is a religion practiced by much Haitian
living in Haiti as well as the Diaspora. For the majority of Haitians, it is a symbol of solidarity of
how they stood up and fought for their rights and freedom. For others, it is a painful source of
reminder of how their ancestors were cruelly and unjustly treated by the Europeans.Even though the
slaves were forced to convert to the Roman Catholic Christianity by missionaries, they continue to
practice their faith. As a result, the voodoo is born out of the intermingling of beliefs and practices
of African culture and the Catholicism. Nowadays the voodoo plays important role in different
integrals politically and socially. In 1676, when the French colonized this Island, they possessed
vast land, fields, pastures and garden. They needed cheap labor for the grueling work, especially in
those sugars plantations. The slave system has already existed in the 16th century.
Upon their arrival, the owners stripped them of their fundamental human rights. They exploited
their skills and forbade practicing their traditional beliefs. The Europeans look down on African
beliefs as primitive and savage. They did not accept those beliefs as a genuine religion. As a result,
they baptized those poor souls as real Christians. Those slaves continued to practice their faith at
their peril. If they get caught, they were punished by lashing, imprisonments, and sometimes death.

Leader In Lord Of The Flies
Characteristics of a Leader in Lord of the Flies
Many people have many different views on what a leader is. Leaders vary from team captain to
the President of the United States. Of course, the leadership skills a team captain have are much
different from those of the President of the United States. In the book, Lord of the Flies, leadership
skills show through many of the characters. Boys ages 6 12 years old are left to fight for their
lives on an abandoned island after their plane crashes. At this age, some of the boys may think
they deserve this position, but the boy with the best leadership skills needs obtain it for the good of
the group. The characteristics of a leader in Lord of the Flies vary from being a good public speaker
, to being brave and to being willing to listen to the others opinions.

Jack shows bravery by taking on the manly task of being the hunter gatherer. When Jack goes on
the hunt for the pig it shows he is brave. Even though Jack does not know and may fear what
might be in the woods to get him, he goes anyway. This shows how Jack does care for the group
because he is risking his life for theirs. Ralph shows bravery when he, Jack and Roger went on
the hunt to find the beast after Samneric said they had seen it. They all tossed around the idea of
who would go first into Castle Rock to see about the beast. Soon after that, Ralph says I m chief.
I ll go. Don t argue. (Golding, pg 104) Bravery is shown here by not only facing their fears, but
facing their fears so the others would not have to fear. The purpose of having this characteristic
is helping those who are not brave survive. Some of the young boys would have been too scared
to go on the hunt for the beast. This would mean they would forever be in fear about it. Brave
leaders help the not so brave followers

I find that this definition promotes an aggressive tone in relation to my experience. As I am sure
it does have an effect on many more things in Helens life, her active wellbeing shows that it has
not stopped her from functioning. Although she proved to show that assistance was needed to help

Gay Conversion Therapy Case Study
The Supreme Court rejected a request by a Christian minister and therapist to consider a case

California adopted a law in 2012 prohibiting licensed therapists from offering sessions that are

Violence / Intimate Partner
Sex crime is one of the most underestimated crimes in America. Intimate Partner and Sexual
Violence are one of the most torturous and abusive crimes that goes unreported due to fear. Intimate
partner abuse is generally part of a pattern of abusive behavior and control rather than an isolated act
of physical aggression. Partner abuse can take a variety of forms, including physical assault such as
different forms of hitting, kicking, and beatings; emotional abuse, threats, financial abuse,
psychological abuse such as belittling, intimidation, and humiliation.

Negativity Is The Enemy Of Creativity
Negativity is the enemy of creativity David Lynch. Over the past few months of being on my
Instagram account and looking at the comments and pictures of tof people on Instagram, I
noticed that people in this generation are more critical of other people than generations in years
past. Two people in particular, who have been on the receiving end, are Alexis Sanchez and
Mesut Ozil two professional soccer players who play in London for Arsenal FC. Lately their
team has not been playing very well or getting good results in their games; it s evident in the
pictures and captions, or lack of captions, that they post on Instagram. You can tell that people
who follow them are very upset by the negative and dismissive comments on their posts. This
exemplifies that in today s society, people have become more judgemental of the pictures and
comments others post on Instagram. One example of this is seen profoundly on one of the
pictures that Alexis Sanchez posted after a loss to Liverpool FC, 4 0. The picture depicts Alexis
squatting on the pitch after being scored on for the fourth time. I noticed that in the picture below,
we see Alexis in frustration with the way that he and his teammates have played throughout the
game (@alexis_officia1). Looking back through his account I made a connection that directly
relates to an incident that happened last year with the club. During that time it was about how
Alexis was reacting/playing on the field during games. He would mope around like he didn t care
or didn t wantto be there. Also, during that time the comments were the same as they are now. It
is also evident that he is frustrated with the situation at hand because there was no caption to go
along with the picture. On all his other posts he includes some sort of caption, but in this case he
was clearly too distraught and upset to write one. It was definitely clear that the fans did not like
the way he went about about the loss. The evidence in the comments suggest that they want Alexis
to stop acting like a baby or get out of Arsenal because they don t want a playerwho won t throw a
temper tantrum when they lost a game (Anonymous 2 and Anonymous 4). I believe that these
people have the right to be upset but they

Truly why and how Horlicks got its slang significance is not clear. However it was unquestionably

Horlicks .
Furthermore we ought not be excessively amazed by the association. Obviously, the two words

readers of different creeds, sexual orientation, and ethnicities are being introduced to the world of
superheroes. With this new trend, many questions arise concerning the impact and necessity of
underrepresentation and fairness. How have superherocomic books widened their depiction of
underrepresented communities, and what role does history play on the characters of comic books?
More specifically, how have Marvel and DC Comicsbeen affected by history, and... Show more

Superheroes such as Miles Morales, Kenan Kong, and Jaime Reyes taking the title of
Spiderman, Super Man, and Blue Beetle all have one thing in common; they epitomize an
underrepresented ethnic and racial community. Axel Alonso, the creator of the half Hispanic,
half black Spider Man (Miles Morales), explains, Miles is but one face in a diverse landscape of
heroes that includes Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Sam Wilson (Captain America) and Amadeus
Cho (the Hulk), and offers readers of all creeds and colors a chance to see their own reflection
(Moreno, 2016, para. 10). Just like the creation of Batwoman, Miles Morales creation is due to
the fact that creators wanted to be able to reach every member of their audience. However, often
lost in the intersection between superheroes and science fiction is the place race occupies in the
genre, and when it is addressed, the discussion frequently turns to framing the genre as racially
biased, (Nama, 2008, p. 134). For these reasons, many comic book creators refrain from
addressing these issues, since it may lead to them being accused of conforming to a stereotype.
Even so, the audience for comics is a truly multicultural one; in fact, it is more ethnically diverse
than are the heroes the young people read about (Brown, 1999, p.

A Brief Note On The Arab Israeli War
Modern Essay Arab and Israeli Conflict
The Middle Eastern area has experienced and suffered more conflict and blood shed than
probably any part of the world. The Arab Israeli war in 1948 was the first step of a century of
bloody and hostile conflicts. The Arab Israeli war was caused by a number of factors both
intraregional and international, which created a catalyst of war through a complex situation. This
was triggered by Israel s independence declaration in 14 May 1948; in the Arab Israeli war the
victor was Israel. During this essay the following will be discussed: Zionism, Arab nationalism, and
British foreign policy these I believe are the three key causes of the 1948 war. The reason for
choosing not just one of these factors to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore the idea that anti Semitism could only be overcome by physical separation from
Europe and by self determination (Schulze 1999, p. 1) is what is believed to have made Zionism
so popular in the first place. The religious and cultural background to the Land of Israel made
Palestine the most logical territorial claim and was perceived as the only viable and permanent
solution to the problem of the Jews. This idea of Zionism advertised the belief that Jews were
given Palestine by God himself that is was their right and this fuelled their fight in pursuing their
God given right. Meanwhile, with news of Hitler and the holocaust in Europe beginning to spread,
this event only generated an intense determination to create a Jewish state. But with the Palestinian
leadership actively supporting the Nazis during WWII it had created more conflict between the
Arabs and Jews. Without the Jews flocking from Europe because of the Holocaust and the idea of
Zionism, Arab Israeli conflicts may never have occurred to such an extremist level. As the Jews
perhaps would have not had enough organisation and support to fight back against the Arabs and
the desperate desire to create a Jewish state with nothing to lose.
Modern Arab nationalism began at the end of the eighteenth century, majority as opposition to the
European colonialism (British), which the Arabs believed was superfluous in its attainment
(Schulze 1999, pp. 2 3). Arab

Poverty Vs Relative Poverty
Relative poverty is a social ill and problem that no country has so far combated to the end.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau s 2012 Current Population Report, 46.2 million Americans
are considered impoverished; That is also 15 percent of the country s population. Approximately
16.4 million American children, kids under the age of 18, are affected by relative poverty. This
is also 22 percent of the population that live in poverty. The rate for senior citizens, people 65
and older, is 8.7 percent. However, a discussion of poverty is a highly controversial issue
constantly connected with a number of peculiarities and intricacies, as being poor is perceived
differently in different parts of the world. While in the starving countries of Africa, poverty
means having no home, no food, and no clothing on a regular basis, for Europeans, misery is
much closer connected with deprivation of excess pleasures and purchases such as expensive
devices, expensive clothing, and sophisticated foodstuffs. Relative poverty is the state in which
people do not have the minimum amount of money or income needed in order to maintain the
average standard of living in the society in which they live in. Relative poverty is considered the
most feasible way to measure the level of poverty in an individual country. Relative poverty is
defined relative to the members of a society and, therefore, can be different across all countries.
People are said to be impoverished if they cannot keep up with the

Inconsistency Essay
in the Groundwork. The first type of inconsistency or the internal inconsistency of the maxim
relates to the fact that, as we noted earlier, maxims are principles of action in that they provide
directives that we intend to realize; this intention is what we mean when we say that we have
willed the maxim. The conceptual or internal contradiction, to which O Neill refers, emerges when
what we intend incorporates something that is not possible. For example, one cannot will success
and stay detached from the world at the same time. However, one can consistently will success in
public life and yet not interact with others in private life. O Neill sees this kind of schizophrenic
willing as problematic, but tolerable within the bounds of the Kantian doctrine since such nuances...

However, this view seems problematic since specific intention is always compared with
underlying intention. This difficulty in O Neill s view particularly runs afoul of empirical practical
reason, while for Rawls and Kant it does not mesh with the hypothetical imperatives. According to
Kant, if one wills a particular end, one also wills the necessary and indispensable means to secure
that end. A practical inconsistency occurs if the means (specific intentions in this case) are
incompatible with the maxims (the underlying intention) which they are meant to serve. Consider
the coffee example discussed previously: if a maxim of serving my guest coffee is my underlying
intention, then, if I adopt the ancillary and specific intention of preparing and offering coffee
combined with another specific intention of drinking all the coffee myself in front of my
uncomfortable guest, I fall into

Mass Media And Mass Shootings
Since people are mostly only able to participate in catastrophes such as this mass shooting at a
distance, news media is the primary source of information, which therefore creates the audiences
reality of the events that occur.(Wheeler 80) With this, the mass media has the control of what
people are exposed to, and the choice to amplify awareness to what they choose as important. In
an interview conducted with Sarah, an undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Las
Vegas, she recalled her exposure to the news of the shooting: The only reports I had access to,
was what I saw in the news . When asked how she thinks the media had an effect on her
perception of the shooting, she stated: Well I believe that since the only information I was able
to get was from news sources, what I saw in the news is what I believed. So I really do think the
media had a strong effect since I was exposed to mainly what they chose to present to me. With
this, media messages, such as the reporting on the Las Vegas shooting, exert a strong influence on
audiences and the cultivation of people s perception. The frequent exposure to these stories of mass
shootings and the use of descriptors based on race are fed to the audience and become a common
knowledge. Ultimately, the promotion of racial stereotypes through the disproportionate
representation of perpetrators of mass shootings influences public opinion and
perception.(Lankford) With the strong effect that media has on the people, it is

Essay On Good Vs Evil Archetypes
Most stories, movies, and myths have the simple archetype of Good vs. Evil. This particular
archetype can often be confusing, because in stories the reader is often lead to believe that
something or someone represents good or evil, but it does not. More often than not the evil
character is either crazy or was raised wrongly. Evil characters in Good vs. Evil stories are often not
truly evil but either mental unstable or not taught right from wrong.
The entirety of the Inheritance series is based on two archetypes, Good vs. Evil and Man vs. Man.
These two archetypes are the underlying archetypes. Each book also has its own archetypes that
overlays the first two mentioned. One of the overlying archetypes, Crime pursued by Vengeance, is
only overlying throughout the first three books of the series, Eragon, Eldest, and the 1st quarter of

archetypes of Revenge, Temptation, The Quest, Love, Maturation, and Transformation. In The
Young Elites the main character is fighting a kingdom, herself, and other supernatural people. The
main character also helps her lover take revenge upon his family, the royal family. Up until he
dies, she is on a quest to exact that revenge. Along the way her ability to create illusions, along
with the frequency with which she uses it, begins to degrade her mind she begins to hallucinate and
become mentally unhinged. This is where the reader comes into contact with the Madness
archetype. She goes through a period of maturation and transformation to become a powerful force,
which overthrows the kingdom which fits in the Ascension archetype. The Good vs. Evil archetype
is visible here in the main character vs. Her hallucinations which often coerce her into killing
innocents. It is confusing because the evil force seems like the royal family, but it is not

Individuality In The Pedestrian And Fahrenheit 451 By Ray...
In life, it is commonly stated that A man who doesn t think for himself, does not think at all. This
statement is supported in The Pedestrian and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In Fahrenheit 451
the main character finds himself bound to the expectations of society and robotically follows every
order that is given to him without second thoughts. This leads to him being unknowingly unhappy
and having a hollow existence. But as the story progressed the main character became more aware
of the person that he truly was, and when he had finally discovered that person, he was truly happy.
On the contrary, In The Pedestriana lone individual who is different from society is able to think
for himself, thus giving him freedom from the bonds of society and the ability to embrace his
individuality. Making him free and happy. In both stories, we see how individuality releases
people from the shackles of their society and finally allows them to be truly happy with who they
are. In the novel Fahrenheit 451and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Corona Beer Case Study Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Introduction: Corona Beer, produced in Mexico by Grupo Modelo since 1922, entered the United
States beer market in 1979, and by 2007, was the number one imported beer in the United States
(with 1.9% market share of the global beer industry) having recently taken that position from
Heineken, a rival (with 1.6% market share of the global beer industry). Corona used a broad
differentiation strategy with a fun in the sun marketing image. It also achieved strategic success by
using a distinctive glass bottle and providing a light tasting beer that attracted a broader market.
Problem identification: The global beer industry was experiencing increasing competition due to the

Its unique glass bottle for distinctiveness, multiple brand selections, international operations, and
unobtrusive taste were also parts of its strategy.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
A long term strategic management issue for GM is the increasing global competition due to the
mergers and acquisitions of its competitors. The partnership of Heineken and FEMSA (Mexico s
second largest beer company in terms of market share) was formed for the sole purpose to
dethrone Corona as the best selling import beer in the United States. To make matters worse, there
were also rumours of large mergers and acquisitions of mid tier brewers in order to better compete
and expand globally. In addition, with the introduction of NAFTA, Canadian and U.S. competitors
were slowly beginning to penetrate the Mexican market, which had the potential to chip away at the
majority market share GM enjoyed.
In the short term, GM was slowly losing local market share to FEMSA, who continued to
experience steady growth, handled its own distribution channels, had immunity to the unstable
peso, and had the top six best rated beers brewed in Mexico according to RateBeer.com.
GM needed to find a way to protect its long sustained success in the domestic market, and build as
a global player, which had everything to do with its strategy in developing foreign markets. Given
the volatility of the Mexican economy, GM needed to seek international markets

Perspective on Religion Herman Melville s Moby-Dick Essay
Perspective on Religion Herman Melville s Moby Dick
A cornerstone of the philosophical and narrative substructure of Herman Melville s Moby Dick is
point of view, or perspective. The textually primary point of view in the novel is Ishmael s, since
he is the narrator of the story. However, Ishmaelrelates his story in such a way that one can easily
detect numerous other voices, or other perspectives, in the story, which often oppose the narrator s
voice. These other, non primary perspectives function both to establish Moby Dick as a novel with
numerous points of view and to clarify Ishmael s own particular point of view on certain subjects.
For instance, in The Ramadan Ishmael attempts to convince Queequeg of the ridiculous and ... Show

Ishmael speaks also, but his voice, perhaps because it is primary and spread throughout the vast,
ocean like novel, often seems the most muted, the least detectable. Yet Ishmael has a clear and
distinct perspective on religion that clearly and distinctly differs from the orthodox Christian
perspective, from Queegueg s, and from his tragic Captain Ahab s perspective. Making use of the
perspectival structure of the text, I aim to contrast Ishmael s unique religious perspective with these
other implicit and explicit perspectives set forth in the text, and by this contrasting to ascertain a
definite understanding of Ishmael s religion.
The voice of Christian orthodoxy speaks loudly in Moby Dick. Before one can consider this
voice properly, however, one must understand that Ishrnael is not a Christian in any orthodox
sense of the term. Ishmale twice states that, during the time of his sailing on the Pequod, he was
a Christian. Early in the novel he says quite plainly, I was a good Christian; born and bred in the
bosom of the infallible Presbyterian Church (57). Later in the novel, he refers to we good
Presbyterian Christians (84). Carfeul mediation on these passages and others will lead one to the
conclusion that Ishmael is being disingenuous when he refers to himself as a good Christian. It is
obvious, first of all, that Ishmael is being ironic and sarcastic in the passages quoted above, as the
tone and the context of the passages intimate. Note the

Substance Dualism Qualia
According to a substance dualist, yes, theoretically, a computer or robot could be capable of
experiencing qualia, such as colors, pains, and emotions. There are five specific criteria used to
describe the properties of the mind: Being non spatial, being rational, having intentionality, having
qualia, and being immediately known. In order to have a compelling argument for the position that
robots and/or computers could experience qualia, a substance dualist would have to show that said
computer or robot possesses one or more of these properties. To accomplish this, a substance dualist
could argue something like: Qualia are subjective, mental states. Mental states can only belong to
the mind. The mind is a thinking thing. Therefore, a thinking... Show more content on

As a result of not being mind readers, humans have learned, through time, the importance on other
subtle, verbal/non verbal communication/behaviorisms as clues to what another individual may
or may not be experiencing. For example, if another being behaves in a certain way, such as
saying I am hungry, humans have learned that it is more than reasonable to assume he or she is in
fact hungry. In all actuality, it is unreasonable to assume that this individual is not hungry and is
lying. Furthermore, if a robot or computer behaved so similarly to a human, to the point that it
succeeded in passing the Turing Test, then what right does a human have in claiming to know
what is or is not going on in this computer s/robot s mind? For these reasons, I think that it if a
robot or computer could exhibit the required behavior to imply that it has a mind, then humans are
in no position to tell state whether that robot or computer does or does not have a mind. Humans
cannot even reach an agreement on what the mind actually is, therefore, human s are not in the
position to claim whether or not other beings can have a mind. If another being behaves as if it
has a mind, then that is the best possible evidence we can ever have towards proving

Benjamin Franklin, the Father of Foreign Diplomacy Essay
Some people will argue that the true birth of United States of America started with George
Washington leading the Continental Army against Great Britain s royal army in pursuit of freedom
from foreign dictatorship; seizing the opportunity to create and control their own government in the
manner in which they sought fit. One of the major forces in this battle for freedom was the
diplomatic travels of Benjamin Franklin. His travels to England and France set the foundation for
the dealings in foreign diplomacy that are still in effect today. Without Benjamin Franklin s
wisdom, knowledge and courage to address Kings and Parliament on the behalf of the colonies, the

Britain s mistreatment. In 1765 at the age of 59, Franklin addressed Parliament regarding the
Quartering Bill, which allowed forceful housing of British soldiers in the homes of the Americans.
He argued on behalf of the colonies and Parliament amended the bill making the act illegal. During
this same year, Parliament passed the Stamp Act as a way of acquiring more money from the
colonies. This is where many of Benjamin Franklin s diplomatic duties began.
Franklin was called to testify in front of Parliment,
A questioner asked: Considering the resolutions of Parliament as to the right, do you think, if the

Franklin responded: I think the resolutions of right will gibe them very little concern, if they are

The Theory Of Management And Taylorism
In today s society we often use certain practices and methods that have worked well in the past.
Managing is one of those practises that is the most important for the well being of a business, and
has been important to make sure that individual efforts coordinate. Major management theories
and practices such as scientific, administrative, and behavioural theories have had more research
put into them as the years have progressed. Theories such as these are depended on more than
ever since society relies on group efforts, especially because several organized groups have
become large. Factors such as these make managerial theories crucial in the way managers control

Themes such as analysis; synthesis; logic;rationality; empiricism; work ethic; efficiency and
elimination of waste; standardization of best practices; were all spread out into new management
methods.
When scientific management was created, it evolved during a time where mechanization and
automation were unpopular. When companies started replacing people with machines, the scientific
method had to be re evaluated. This was due to America s craft work (work with humans) being no
longer existent. Scientific management later lead to business methods such as offshoring, industrial
process control, and numerical control. Offshoring occurs when a company moves from one
country to another due to production costs and availability of resources. Industrial process control
and numerical control come into effect when a company s machines and systems are no longer
operating at full potential.
Along with everything in life, change is almost a factor for the future. Over the decades, scientific
management has evolved immensely. During the early decades of scientific management, the
demands of work intensified. Workers were not impressed nor satisfied with the environment that
they worked in and became furious with their employers. During one of Taylor s own

workers began to

Similarities Between The Wanderer And The Dream Of The Rood
Comitatus in The Wanderer and The Dream of the Rood The Wanderer and The Dream of the Rood
are two Old English poems that demonstrate the link between lord and thane. This bond, also
known as the comitatus, is highlighted with imagery to effectively portray the physical intimacy
involved. The idea that everything is fleeting is emphasized to show the significance of the
comitatus. Furthermore, the beauty of the relationship is shown by contrasting the shame that the
Wandererfeels at the end of the poem to the honour and glory that is thrown upon the crossafter it
willingly suffers along with Christ. In all, the ideals of the comitatus during the Medieval Times
are clearly advocated through the illustration of the physical intimacy, shame and honour
involved in the two poems. To start off, the two poems of interest both share the central idea that
everything in life is fleeting. The Wanderer is a lament on the lost ways of life. The Wanderer
thinks back to the times he was free from exile. He nostalgically compares his life then to the one
he has now and comes to realize how quickly the time has gone by. From lines 73 to 77, it says
The wise man must realize how ghastly it will be when all the wealth of this world stands waste,
as now here and there throughout this middle earth walls stand blasted by the wind, beaten by
frost, the buildings crumpling. There is a lack of hope in this passage. The idea that things that

Essay on The Efficient Market Hypothesis
1.INTRODUCTION
The efficient market, as one of the pillars of neoclassical finance, asserts that financial markets are
efficient on information. The efficient market hypothesis suggests that there is no trading system
based on currently available information that could be expected to generate excess risk adjusted
returns consistently as this information is already reflected in current prices. However, EMH has
been the most controversial subject of research in the fields of financial economics during the last
40 years. Behavioural finance, however, is now seriously challenging this premise by arguing that
people are clearly not rational (Ross, (2002)). Behavioral finance uses facts from psychology and
other human sciences in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The weak form efficiency cannot explain January effect. In semi strong form efficient market, to
test this hypothesis, researchers look at the adjustment of share prices to public announcements
such as earnings and dividend announcements, splits, takeovers and repurchases. As time goes, later
tests tend to be not supportive to EMH. For instance, semi strong form efficiency cannot explain the
pricing/earning effect. In strong form efficiency, the highest level of market efficiency, Fama
(1991) pointed out the immeasurability of market efficiency and suggested that it must be tested
jointly with an equilibrium model of expected. However, perfect efficiency is an unrealistic
benchmark that is unlikely to hold in practice.
Last but not least important, an efficient capital market is one in which stock prices fully reflect all
available information. However, the paradox is that since information is reflected in security prices
quickly, knowing information when it is released does an investor little good. Furthermore, it is
impossible to create a portfolio which would earn extraordinary risk adjusted return. As a
consequence, all the technical and fundamental analysis are useless, no one can consistently
outperform the market, and new

Compare And Contrast Sage And Boald
Some say it s the busiest city, traffic is always backed up and people walking side by side trying
to get where they need to be on time. New York City. It is pretty hectic but when all is calm and
the sunset slowly goes down on the horizon, you wouldn t want to be anywhere else. The aura of
the city is so energetic and always on the go which makes it a perfect place for the citys heros, Sage
and Bolt. Sage is always well dressed when crime isn t running in the city but if a spark of
corruption is made, Sage transforms into his magnificent suit. His suit is perfectly equipped to
fight crime which activates his powers. Sage s super abilities are super strength and the power
to fly. On the other hand his sidekick, Bolt, is the opposite of Sage and feels like he doesn t need

How Does Technology Affect Independent Films
How has the role of technology affected independent films and their film making process?
The distribution of film has changed phenomenally during the last 10 years. Independent film is an
area of production where filmmakers produce their films independently, outside of the studio
system. Many argue that cultural value is taken from independent films whereas commercial
releases follow the same narrative structure. Often, mainstream cinema will follow a common
narrative arc which fits into the equilibrium theory e.g. Protagonist is faced with a challenge, a
stage of disequilibrium occurs, equilibrium is restored and the film has a traditional happy ending.
Independent film s niche audiences enjoy the creative freedom that comes with genre. This freedom
has been extended by new technology, giving filmmakers the ability to fulfil their artistic vision.
Advances in technical equipment have benefitted the film making process for independent
directors, who are now able to create high quality films on a low budget. In addition to advances in
technical equipment, social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Polylactic Acid Polymers
Introduction
Investigations into developing a more sustainable and eco friendly aspect of every day life are
becoming a major priority. Without such investigations or developments in not only the food
packaging sectors, but in many other major industries, this planet along with its inhabitants will
surely succumb to the human lust of consumerism and ultimately the waste that such hunger
produces. The implantation of ecofriendly green packaging options would see a sharp decline in
the amount of waste that is produced each year and give the ability to recycle and to produce
new items from previously used packaging. In this report the team discuss the concept of
biodegradable plastics and their future implementation as green food packaging alternatives to
the current form of non eco friendly plastics that are in existing use. Biodegradability refers to a
composites ability to be degraded by bacteria or other living organisms, plastics such as these can
also be susceptible to water and ultraviolet rays as sources of decomposition with this aspect being
discussed within the chapters of this report. As apart of this report, team members assess the
discovery, life cycle as well as the current or future applications of three different types of bio
plastic. Contained within is discussion on Poly Lactic Acid, Novamont s thermoplastic starch based

Amphitheatres And Spectacles In The Roman Empire
Amphitheatrical spectacle in the Ancient Roman Empire performed a variety of social and political
functions. Chief among these was cultural imperialism amphitheatres and spectacles served to unite
the Roman people and replace pre Roman cultural values with distinctly Roman ones. Evidentiary
support for this function can be gleaned from a number of different sources such as architectural
remains throughout the Roman Empire, inscriptions on amphitheatres, and literary accounts of the
events surrounding these spectacles. While no evidentiary category can paint a complete picture in
isolation, a combination of the three placed within a historical context can provide an enormous
amount of information regarding the use of the amphitheatres and... Show more content on

Inscriptions of dedication on new amphitheatres across the Roman Empire suggest, similarly to the
architectural remains, that amphitheatres and spectacle were used as a way to assert Roman
influence in previously conquered locations. Consider the inscription on the Roman amphitheatre at
Pompeii; Gaius Quinctius Valgus, son of Gaius, and Marcus Porcius, son of Marcus, quinquennial
duumvirs, for the honor of the colony, saw to the construction of the spectacula at their own
expense, and they gave the site to the colonist in perpetuity (CIL 10.852 = ILS 5627, trans. Alison
Cooley/KMC). Clearly, it was greatly to the benefit of the Roman Empire to build these
amphitheatres, so much so that Roman officials would personally pay out of pocket for their
construction. The formal nature of this carving as a plaque on the newly constructed amphitheatre
suggests that the same officials who financed the creation of the building also financed the carving
of the plaque. Thus, this inscription provides a primary source describing the Roman perspective on
amphitheatrical spectacle. It is, however, only by combining this evidence with knowledge of when
the amphitheatre was built and its location that it becomes truly clear for what the amphitheatre
was purposed. Dating of the remains place the amphitheatre around

Essay on Resources for Differentiated Instruction
Introduction
As described by Hall, Strangman, Meyer (2011), differentiated instruction [DI] allows teachers to
build flexibility into their approach and understanding in adapting curriculum to the needs of the
student, instead of requiring students to apply modifications they may be ill equipped to complete
(p. 2). In the alternative classroom, with a majority of students ELLs, teachers can adapt DI to set
lesson and curriculum goals through a range of instructional and management strategies to engage
students through curiosity, promote understanding, and clarify understanding to incorporate learning
in the classroom (Laureate Education, Inc., 2010a; Laureate Education, Inc., 2010b). As a teacher

One way to do this is through the Apple iTunes App TapTyping available at http://gettaptyping.com.
This program will train the students to acquire better keyboarding skills on the District issued iPad
s. The program that I rely on for general keyboarding skills improvement is TypingWeb at http:/
/www.typingweb.com. Accounts on free, and I have set up a classroom portal that monitors
progress and shows student improvement.
One resource that I can use to plan for lessons differentiated by learning profiles in the Media
Literacy classroom is using software included with the computers. Our school purchased 25 Apple
iMac computers and we are all learning how to adapt the software programs we were using with the
PCs and make them work through the Apple environment. We stayed with the Microsoft Office for
Mac and even though the programs are somewhat compatible, redirecting interest to a new software
environment means letting students discover the passion in what works for them, and then passing
the information on through PowerPoint and other software application presentations.
Even though we develop lessons and classroom activities using differentiated instruction, as
Tomlinson (2005) emphasizes, it is not necessary to separate the categories in planning or
instruction according to readiness, interest, and learning profile, (p. 58). I would invite my

Greek Architecture And The Architecture
Ancient Greek architects pushed for the excellence and beauty seen in their works and it has left a
lifetime of legacy behind them. Greek Architecture is one of the earliest forms of architecture and it
is one that has influenced architects for centuries. Ancient Greece was a collection of hundreds of
city states contributed throughout the Mediterranean and Black seas. Greek life was dominated by
religion and politics. The religious temples and political buildings of the time were the biggest and
most beautiful in history. The architecture was produced by Hellenic people on the Greek
mainland, the Peloponnese, Aegean Islands, Anatolia, and Italy. It has flourished since it was
produced and has been influencing other countries for centuries. Ancient Greek architects perfected
the use of columns which was seen on all of their temples and government buildings. These
columns came in three particular orders that were created during different times periods. The three
defined orders are the Doric order, Ionic order, and Corinthian order. These orders serve the basis
of Classic architecture. The Doric order was the earliest order of Greek architecture. This
particular order was not overly decorative and served the sole purpose of being effective and
supporting the buildings. In Doric temples, columns have no base and they look simple but strong.
On the top of the columns, there is a capital and a square block under the architrave. During the
Archaic period in Greece, which was from

  • 2. Essay on Canadian s Aging Population There is diversity among all Canadian, hence there is differences among the aging population. Not all seniors are aging well and have the appropriate programs and services to meet their needs. Some seniors are victims of abuse and some are living in isolation and poverty. Some seniors suffer from chronic illness and other socio economic factors limit the amount of money they can put away for retirement. Hence these middle and low income elderly retirees will have to depend mainly on the pension plan that is offered between the age of 60 65. The age of 60 65 is regarded in Canada as the age of retirement. This paper will focus mainly on the disadvantaged older populations. The disadvantaged older populations are those who are currently... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These concerns were reinforced by the fact that many elderly Canadians were applying for public relief. However, it was not until several provinces began complaining about the amounting cost of relief that lead to the federal old age pension scheme. Guest (as sited in Chappell, 2006) the federal government made a commitment to assist the elderly and the old age pensions act was established in 1927. All Canadians were entitled once they reach the age of seventy or older in contrast to today, one can retire at the age of 60 65. The Canadian government eventually shared the cost of relief with the provincial government. The old age pension act has been criticized because of the inadequate in benefit pay outs. According to Guest (as sited in Chappell, 2006) in 1951, the old age pension was replaced by two pension plans, Old Age Security and Old Age Assistance. The Old Age Security provides universal benefits and was funded by the federal government while the Old Age Assistance was funded by the federal and provincial government and managed by the province. As Guest (1997) pointed out, The Canadian Pension plan and Quebec Pension Plan was introduced in 1965 which individuals could collect once they retired, however they had to have made contribution between the ages of eighteen to seventy years of their working life. People also had the opportunity to contribute to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Cassia And Ky s Journey To A Cruel Society The book Crossed, by Ally Condie, was about Cassia and Ky s journey to find The Rising . This book was an awkward transitional book that I painfully pushed through to be able to read the next edition. It started where the previous book left off, the Society placed the two in different places, and following that, the book quickly escalated in terms of violence. From what started as a sappy romance novel (which in my opinion, was quite enjoyable for just some light reading), turned into a fight for your life adventure across the canyon to find the rebellion. Ky travels to a camp as a decoy villager with other boys that are even much younger than he is in the Outer Provinces. The cruel society has just sent the boys there to die from the enemy shootings that happen frequently. Ky... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cassia, who at the time had been training for her Society occupation, decided to search for Ky. She illegally boarded a ship and very coincidentally ended up where Ky had been right before he left for the canyons. After Cassia, too, decided to go to the canyons, the plot of the book quickly declined in interest and variety. After a few deaths, and about a little more than 100 pages, Cassia and Ky find each other, again, very coincidentally, and have a very dramatic reunion with a lot of poetry. In the previous book, poetry was Cassia s inspiration to keep fighting for Ky. In this book, it is a recurring theme, but by overuse, it has consequently become a little excessive. It s very repetitive, although I understand the main characters general inspiration comes from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George H. W. Bush said, The last thing the leaders of Los Angeles expected in the early 1990s was that their city would become the scene of the nation s deadliest urban race riot since the Civil War. The race riot that Mr. Bush is referencing are the Los Angeles race riots that occurred as a result of Rodney Kings arrest in 1991 exemplified the deep tensions between black citizens and the policeforce which caused a change in police policy. Rodney King at the age of twenty two was on parole for beating his girlfriend while she was sleeping. King then went on to drag her outside the house and beat her again. King was charged with battery and pleaded no contest. He was then placed on probation and ordered to obtain counseling. He never got the counseling. Weeks pass and one day King enters a corner store with a tire iron. King, swinging a tire iron, ordered a convenience store clerk to empty the cash register. The clerk grabbed the tire iron, causing King to fall backwards and knock over a pie rack. King swung the rack at the clerk and fled the store with two hundred dollars. King was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, second degree robbery, and intent to commit great bodily injury. In an agreement, King pleaded guilty to the robbery charge and the other charges were dropped. He was sentenced to two years in prison, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. A Good Explanation Of The Evolution Of Human Behavior 1)Which proposal is a good explanation of the evolution of human behavior? Human beings, like all other organisms, are a product of biological development and environmental interactions. Behavior itself is a phenotypic trait, and as such, reflects a history of specific interactions between genes, experience, and environment. Of the thirty eight proposals used to explain the evolution of human behavior, sociobiology is the most plausible explanation. Sociobiologists, including Edward O. Wilson, believe that human behavior, as well as non human behavior, can be partly explained as the outcome of natural selection. E. O. Wilson, the author of Sociobiology: the New Synthesis, popularized the term sociobiology as an attempt to explain the evolutionary mechanics behind social behaviors such as altruism, aggression, and nurturance. The fundamental principle guiding sociobiology is that an organism s evolutionary success is measured by the extent to which its genes are represented in the next generation. It begins with the idea that behaviors have evolved over time, similar to the way that physical traits are thought to have evolved. This theory predicts that animals will act in ways that have proven to be evolutionarily successful over time. This can then result in the formation of complex social processes conducive to evolutionary fitness. An important concept in sociobiology is that temperamental traits within a gene pool and between gene pools exist in an ecological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Great Law Of Motion Of History Essay The struggle inherent in putting forward what is hailed as the great law of motion of history (The 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte 14) rests in ensuring that one s purported application of that law is consistent with its abstract detailing. For example, in Karl Marx s theoretical works and historical writing specifically The 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte the philosopher and revolutionary consistently describes the conditions under which men must operate for them to have a chance at restructuring their society and achieving emancipation. Marx illustrates across theory and practice how mankind, though limited in its autonomy by the existing societal order, has an opportunity to emancipate itself from the legal and political superstructure constructed independently of its will when sufficiently focused, energized and united. Hence how Marx pays enough heed to a particular, the ascent of Louis Napoleon, such that he can present it as reflective of a greater universal principle: historical materialism. After all, we [must] not judge of such a period of transformation by its own consciousness...this consciousness must be explained rather from the existing conflict between the social productive forces and the relations of production. (Marx on the History of His Opinions 5). Marx set out to detail, display and prove a universal law. Insofar as his consideration of emancipation and the conditions necessary for it constitute that law, he got at least two thirds of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Chimney Sweeper Compare And Contrast Throughout world history their have been and are many occurrences of society corruption and oppression of masses, such as the forcing of small children to sweep chimneys. Thus, William Blake s Purpose in writing the two The Chimney Sweeper poems was to express his outrage at society for having oppressed and stolen the innocence of powerless children in forcing them to sweep. Both poems are similar in that he uses the actions and view point of the childspeaker to express his rage against society, mostly through his verbal irony. However, the poems distinct in that one shares the view point of an innocent child who hasn t yet fully experienced the corruption of society , whereas the other one is one of a more experienced child who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the dream is full of irony in the readers eyes since they can see it has benefited the child in no shape, way or form; it has only made them believe the church will be their savior so they can willingly work for the church. Thus implementing, that society is so corrupt it brainwashes the children to make them believe it is their duty to sweep your chimneys, thus depriving them of individual rights without their consent. The second The Chimney Sweeper poem although it shares the same setting and fury as Blake s point of view, the ultimate contrast is the speakers view point; that of a more experienced sweeper who fully understands the cruel reality of his situation. Thus unlike the first poem where the poets viewpoint is implemented, in this one his anger is stated bluntly, which creates a harsh portray of chimney sweeping to the readers. Unlike the first poem where he names the child, here the speaker is only portrayed as a black thing among the snow thus depicting the neglect of society to view these children as actual citizens. Also, the among the snow depicts a symbol of purity, however him being a black thing shows that his hardships have rid him from his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Taking a Look at Vertex Vertex claims the inventory costs of VLite are high, therefore tying practice is required to enhance sales of VLite. It is indisputable that the Commission recognizes pro competitive effects of tying, such as lowering manufacturing or distribution costs by economies of scale, which is found to be important in this industry. According to para. 30 of the Guidance, Vertex has to prove that the tying is indispensible to achieve the same efficiencies. Also, following Hilti Vertex needs to show that it has taken other actions if possible in order to lower the inventory costs. Given such a high standard of proof, it is very likely that Vertex would be found violated the Article 102(d) by contractual tying. 1.Conditional Rebate Scheme Vertex introduced standardized and individualized target rebates to distributors in the Western Europe. Target rebates may not be problematic if they are indeed genuine quantity based, but a target rebate may be found abusive if it limits the buyer s freedom to choose (Michelin I). Nonetheless, rebate schemes may result in suction effect the dominant firm lowers the average price of its products and captures contestable sales which the firm was unable to capture before. • 12. Methods and tools for studying children This essay is a continuation to a previous assignment which discussed how attitudes towards studying children have changed. In this child participation, child voice and consent were identified as three key principles researchers should aspire to when studying children. This essay therefore intends to extend upon these principles by identifying an approach and researchtool which will effectively incorporate all principles within a research study. The context of the research study is a male adult and male child sat at a potter s wheel modelling clay. The aim of the study is to observe and assess the child s level of cognitive development during an interactive period with an adult who is using the technique of scaffolding (Wood, Bruner, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To overcome this problem the child will be encouraged to pause the video at intervals they wished to talk about, thus the recording becomes more representable of a learning story; as the child could help to produce still images of the video and place their comments under the individual pictures. Although time consuming this process is very important as it not only encourages child participation and strong voice of the child, it also reinforces the authenticity of the overall research as the perspective of the child is being gained. This is an important factor as observers do not always interpret observations correctly as people see and interpret things differently (Hobart and Frankel, 2004) and although it is said the camera never lies, it may be distorted (Sharman, Cross and Vennis, 2006) By blending the method of a written narrative with aspects of the mosaic approach not only will a detailed observation be obtained but arguably an observation with substance; as professionals do not have to take the evaluation of the observation at face value, the data is there and available for them to examine. The child actively engaging with the research study also adds another dimension, as the actual views and actions of the participant are documented, arguably when research is conducted via surveys, questionnaires and even interviews the data collected is constrained to the ... • 13. The Word Voodoo Means Spirit Of The West African The word voodoo means spirit in the West African. It is a religion practiced by much Haitian living in Haiti as well as the Diaspora. For the majority of Haitians, it is a symbol of solidarity of how they stood up and fought for their rights and freedom. For others, it is a painful source of reminder of how their ancestors were cruelly and unjustly treated by the Europeans.Even though the slaves were forced to convert to the Roman Catholic Christianity by missionaries, they continue to practice their faith. As a result, the voodoo is born out of the intermingling of beliefs and practices of African culture and the Catholicism. Nowadays the voodoo plays important role in different integrals politically and socially. In 1676, when the French colonized this Island, they possessed vast land, fields, pastures and garden. They needed cheap labor for the grueling work, especially in those sugars plantations. The slave system has already existed in the 16th century. Upon their arrival, the owners stripped them of their fundamental human rights. They exploited their skills and forbade practicing their traditional beliefs. The Europeans look down on African beliefs as primitive and savage. They did not accept those beliefs as a genuine religion. As a result, they baptized those poor souls as real Christians. Those slaves continued to practice their faith at their peril. If they get caught, they were punished by lashing, imprisonments, and sometimes death. Each tribal has its own ... Leaders vary from team captain to the President of the United States. Of course, the leadership skills a team captain have are much different from those of the President of the United States. In the book, Lord of the Flies, leadership skills show through many of the characters. Boys ages 6 12 years old are left to fight for their lives on an abandoned island after their plane crashes. At this age, some of the boys may think they deserve this position, but the boy with the best leadership skills needs obtain it for the good of the group. As I am sure it does have an effect on many more things in Helens life, her active wellbeing shows that it has not stopped her from functioning. Although she proved to show that assistance was needed to help with the game, she was still a functioning individual, especially since she was able to figure out the area where the letter was on the card. In addition to this experience, Helen proved to show strong episodic memory. Episodic memory can be defined as a memory of past events that are acquired from specific situations (Novak, et al, 2013). The reason I argue that Helen has strong episodic memory is because of her past interest in Bingo. She was able to bring her interest forward to assist her in the particular situation. This situation and the content provided has helped change my assumptions about sensory changes in old age. Gay Conversion Therapy Case Study The Supreme Court rejected a request by a Christian minister and therapist to consider a case against a ban on the so called gay conversion therapy in the state of California. The dismissal that came on Monday is the second one that the high court has given in three years. California adopted a law in 2012 prohibiting licensed therapists from offering sessions that are intended to change the sexual orientation of clients under the age of 18. The law was challenged initially on the basis that it violated rights to free speech, but that argument was rejected by a federal appeals court. • 20. Negativity Is The Enemy Of Creativity Negativity is the enemy of creativity David Lynch. Over the past few months of being on my Instagram account and looking at the comments and pictures of tof people on Instagram, I noticed that people in this generation are more critical of other people than generations in years past. Two people in particular, who have been on the receiving end, are Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil two professional soccer players who play in London for Arsenal FC. Lately their team has not been playing very well or getting good results in their games; it s evident in the pictures and captions, or lack of captions, that they post on Instagram. You can tell that people who follow them are very upset by the negative and dismissive comments on their posts. This exemplifies that in today s society, people have become more judgemental of the pictures and comments others post on Instagram. One example of this is seen profoundly on one of the pictures that Alexis Sanchez posted after a loss to Liverpool FC, 4 0. The picture depicts Alexis squatting on the pitch after being scored on for the fourth time. I noticed that in the picture below, we see Alexis in frustration with the way that he and his teammates have played throughout the game (@alexis_officia1). Looking back through his account I made a connection that directly relates to an incident that happened last year with the club. During that time it was about how Alexis was reacting/playing on the field during games. He would mope around like he didn t care or didn t wantto be there. Also, during that time the comments were the same as they are now. It is also evident that he is frustrated with the situation at hand because there was no caption to go along with the picture. On all his other posts he includes some sort of caption, but in this case he was clearly too distraught and upset to write one. It was definitely clear that the fans did not like the way he went about about the loss. The evidence in the comments suggest that they want Alexis to stop acting like a baby or get out of Arsenal because they don t want a playerwho won t throw a temper tantrum when they lost a game (Anonymous 2 and Anonymous 4). Superheroes such as Miles Morales, Kenan Kong, and Jaime Reyes taking the title of Spiderman, Super Man, and Blue Beetle all have one thing in common; they epitomize an underrepresented ethnic and racial community. Axel Alonso, the creator of the half Hispanic, half black Spider Man (Miles Morales), explains, Miles is but one face in a diverse landscape of heroes that includes Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Sam Wilson (Captain America) and Amadeus Cho (the Hulk), and offers readers of all creeds and colors a chance to see their own reflection (Moreno, 2016, para. 10). Just like the creation of Batwoman, Miles Morales creation is due to the fact that creators wanted to be able to reach every member of their audience. However, often lost in the intersection between superheroes and science fiction is the place race occupies in the genre, and when it is addressed, the discussion frequently turns to framing the genre as racially biased, (Nama, 2008, p. 134). For these reasons, many comic book creators refrain from addressing these issues, since it may lead to them being accused of conforming to a stereotype. The Arab Israeli war in 1948 was the first step of a century of bloody and hostile conflicts. The Arab Israeli war was caused by a number of factors both intraregional and international, which created a catalyst of war through a complex situation. This was triggered by Israel s independence declaration in 14 May 1948; in the Arab Israeli war the victor was Israel. Furthermore the idea that anti Semitism could only be overcome by physical separation from Europe and by self determination (Schulze 1999, p. 1) is what is believed to have made Zionism so popular in the first place. The religious and cultural background to the Land of Israel made Palestine the most logical territorial claim and was perceived as the only viable and permanent solution to the problem of the Jews. This idea of Zionism advertised the belief that Jews were given Palestine by God himself that is was their right and this fuelled their fight in pursuing their God given right. Meanwhile, with news of Hitler and the holocaust in Europe beginning to spread, this event only generated an intense determination to create a Jewish state. But with the Palestinian leadership actively supporting the Nazis during WWII it had created more conflict between the Arabs and Jews. Without the Jews flocking from Europe because of the Holocaust and the idea of Zionism, Arab Israeli conflicts may never have occurred to such an extremist level. According to the U.S. Census Bureau s 2012 Current Population Report, 46.2 million Americans are considered impoverished; That is also 15 percent of the country s population. Approximately 16.4 million American children, kids under the age of 18, are affected by relative poverty. This is also 22 percent of the population that live in poverty. The rate for senior citizens, people 65 and older, is 8.7 percent. However, a discussion of poverty is a highly controversial issue constantly connected with a number of peculiarities and intricacies, as being poor is perceived differently in different parts of the world. While in the starving countries of Africa, poverty means having no home, no food, and no clothing on a regular basis, for Europeans, misery is much closer connected with deprivation of excess pleasures and purchases such as expensive devices, expensive clothing, and sophisticated foodstuffs. Relative poverty is the state in which people do not have the minimum amount of money or income needed in order to maintain the average standard of living in the society in which they live in. Relative poverty is considered the most feasible way to measure the level of poverty in an individual country. Relative poverty is defined relative to the members of a society and, therefore, can be different across all countries. People are said to be impoverished if they cannot keep up with the ... • 25. Inconsistency Essay in the Groundwork. The first type of inconsistency or the internal inconsistency of the maxim relates to the fact that, as we noted earlier, maxims are principles of action in that they provide directives that we intend to realize; this intention is what we mean when we say that we have willed the maxim. The conceptual or internal contradiction, to which O Neill refers, emerges when what we intend incorporates something that is not possible. For example, one cannot will success and stay detached from the world at the same time. However, one can consistently will success in public life and yet not interact with others in private life. O Neill sees this kind of schizophrenic willing as problematic, but tolerable within the bounds of the Kantian doctrine since such nuances... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this view seems problematic since specific intention is always compared with underlying intention. This difficulty in O Neill s view particularly runs afoul of empirical practical reason, while for Rawls and Kant it does not mesh with the hypothetical imperatives. According to Kant, if one wills a particular end, one also wills the necessary and indispensable means to secure that end. A practical inconsistency occurs if the means (specific intentions in this case) are incompatible with the maxims (the underlying intention) which they are meant to serve. Consider the coffee example discussed previously: if a maxim of serving my guest coffee is my underlying intention, then, if I adopt the ancillary and specific intention of preparing and offering coffee combined with another specific intention of drinking all the coffee myself in front of my uncomfortable guest, I fall into ... In an interview conducted with Sarah, an undergraduate student at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, she recalled her exposure to the news of the shooting: The only reports I had access to, was what I saw in the news . When asked how she thinks the media had an effect on her perception of the shooting, she stated: Well I believe that since the only information I was able to get was from news sources, what I saw in the news is what I believed. So I really do think the media had a strong effect since I was exposed to mainly what they chose to present to me. With this, media messages, such as the reporting on the Las Vegas shooting, exert a strong influence on audiences and the cultivation of people s perception. The frequent exposure to these stories of mass shootings and the use of descriptors based on race are fed to the audience and become a common knowledge. Ultimately, the promotion of racial stereotypes through the disproportionate representation of perpetrators of mass shootings influences public opinion and perception.(Lankford) With the strong effect that media has on the people, it is ... The partnership of Heineken and FEMSA (Mexico s second largest beer company in terms of market share) was formed for the sole purpose to dethrone Corona as the best selling import beer in the United States. To make matters worse, there were also rumours of large mergers and acquisitions of mid tier brewers in order to better compete and expand globally. In addition, with the introduction of NAFTA, Canadian and U.S. competitors were slowly beginning to penetrate the Mexican market, which had the potential to chip away at the majority market share GM enjoyed. The textually primary point of view in the novel is Ishmael s, since he is the narrator of the story. However, Ishmaelrelates his story in such a way that one can easily detect numerous other voices, or other perspectives, in the story, which often oppose the narrator s voice. Making use of the perspectival structure of the text, I aim to contrast Ishmael s unique religious perspective with these other implicit and explicit perspectives set forth in the text, and by this contrasting to ascertain a definite understanding of Ishmael s religion. The voice of Christian orthodoxy speaks loudly in Moby Dick. Before one can consider this voice properly, however, one must understand that Ishrnael is not a Christian in any orthodox sense of the term. There are five specific criteria used to describe the properties of the mind: Being non spatial, being rational, having intentionality, having qualia, and being immediately known. In order to have a compelling argument for the position that robots and/or computers could experience qualia, a substance dualist would have to show that said computer or robot possesses one or more of these properties. Managing is one of those practises that is the most important for the well being of a business, and has been important to make sure that individual efforts coordinate. Major management theories and practices such as scientific, administrative, and behavioural theories have had more research put into them as the years have progressed. Theories such as these are depended on more than ever since society relies on group efforts, especially because several organized groups have become large. Themes such as analysis; synthesis; logic;rationality; empiricism; work ethic; efficiency and elimination of waste; standardization of best practices; were all spread out into new management methods. When scientific management was created, it evolved during a time where mechanization and automation were unpopular. When companies started replacing people with machines, the scientific method had to be re evaluated. This was due to America s craft work (work with humans) being no longer existent. Scientific management later lead to business methods such as offshoring, industrial process control, and numerical control. Offshoring occurs when a company moves from one country to another due to production costs and availability of resources. Industrial process control and numerical control come into effect when a company s machines and systems are no longer operating at full potential. Along with everything in life, change is almost a factor for the future. Over the decades, scientific management has evolved immensely. During the early decades of scientific management, the demands of work intensified. Workers were not impressed nor satisfied with the environment that they worked in and became furious with their employers. • 39. Similarities Between The Wanderer And The Dream Of The Rood Comitatus in The Wanderer and The Dream of the Rood The Wanderer and The Dream of the Rood are two Old English poems that demonstrate the link between lord and thane. This bond, also known as the comitatus, is highlighted with imagery to effectively portray the physical intimacy involved. The idea that everything is fleeting is emphasized to show the significance of the comitatus. Furthermore, the beauty of the relationship is shown by contrasting the shame that the Wandererfeels at the end of the poem to the honour and glory that is thrown upon the crossafter it willingly suffers along with Christ. In all, the ideals of the comitatus during the Medieval Times are clearly advocated through the illustration of the physical intimacy, shame and honour involved in the two poems. To start off, the two poems of interest both share the central idea that everything in life is fleeting. The Wanderer is a lament on the lost ways of life. The Wanderer thinks back to the times he was free from exile. He nostalgically compares his life then to the one he has now and comes to realize how quickly the time has gone by. From lines 73 to 77, it says The wise man must realize how ghastly it will be when all the wealth of this world stands waste, as now here and there throughout this middle earth walls stand blasted by the wind, beaten by frost, the buildings crumpling. There is a lack of hope in this passage. The idea that things that seem concrete are very temporary is emphasized when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The efficient market hypothesis suggests that there is no trading system based on currently available information that could be expected to generate excess risk adjusted returns consistently as this information is already reflected in current prices. However, EMH has been the most controversial subject of research in the fields of financial economics during the last 40 years. Behavioural finance, however, is now seriously challenging this premise by arguing that people are clearly not rational (Ross, (2002)). Behavioral finance uses facts from psychology and other human sciences in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The weak form efficiency cannot explain January effect. In semi strong form efficient market, to test this hypothesis, researchers look at the adjustment of share prices to public announcements such as earnings and dividend announcements, splits, takeovers and repurchases. In strong form efficiency, the highest level of market efficiency, Fama (1991) pointed out the immeasurability of market efficiency and suggested that it must be tested jointly with an equilibrium model of expected. However, perfect efficiency is an unrealistic benchmark that is unlikely to hold in practice. Last but not least important, an efficient capital market is one in which stock prices fully reflect all available information. However, the paradox is that since information is reflected in security prices quickly, knowing information when it is released does an investor little good. Furthermore, it is impossible to create a portfolio which would earn extraordinary risk adjusted return. • 45. How Does Technology Affect Independent Films How has the role of technology affected independent films and their film making process? The distribution of film has changed phenomenally during the last 10 years. Independent film is an area of production where filmmakers produce their films independently, outside of the studio system. Many argue that cultural value is taken from independent films whereas commercial releases follow the same narrative structure. Often, mainstream cinema will follow a common narrative arc which fits into the equilibrium theory e.g. Protagonist is faced with a challenge, a stage of disequilibrium occurs, equilibrium is restored and the film has a traditional happy ending. Independent film s niche audiences enjoy the creative freedom that comes with genre. This freedom has been extended by new technology, giving filmmakers the ability to fulfil their artistic vision. Without such investigations or developments in not only the food packaging sectors, but in many other major industries, this planet along with its inhabitants will surely succumb to the human lust of consumerism and ultimately the waste that such hunger produces. The implantation of ecofriendly green packaging options would see a sharp decline in the amount of waste that is produced each year and give the ability to recycle and to produce new items from previously used packaging. In this report the team discuss the concept of biodegradable plastics and their future implementation as green food packaging alternatives to the current form of non eco friendly plastics that are in existing use. Biodegradability refers to a composites ability to be degraded by bacteria or other living organisms, plastics such as these can also be susceptible to water and ultraviolet rays as sources of decomposition with this aspect being discussed within the chapters of this report. Chief among these was cultural imperialism amphitheatres and spectacles served to unite the Roman people and replace pre Roman cultural values with distinctly Roman ones. Evidentiary support for this function can be gleaned from a number of different sources such as architectural remains throughout the Roman Empire, inscriptions on amphitheatres, and literary accounts of the events surrounding these spectacles. While no evidentiary category can paint a complete picture in isolation, a combination of the three placed within a historical context can provide an enormous amount of information regarding the use of the amphitheatres and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inscriptions of dedication on new amphitheatres across the Roman Empire suggest, similarly to the architectural remains, that amphitheatres and spectacle were used as a way to assert Roman influence in previously conquered locations. Consider the inscription on the Roman amphitheatre at Pompeii; Gaius Quinctius Valgus, son of Gaius, and Marcus Porcius, son of Marcus, quinquennial duumvirs, for the honor of the colony, saw to the construction of the spectacula at their own expense, and they gave the site to the colonist in perpetuity (CIL 10.852 = ILS 5627, trans. Alison Cooley/KMC). Clearly, it was greatly to the benefit of the Roman Empire to build these amphitheatres, so much so that Roman officials would personally pay out of pocket for their construction. The formal nature of this carving as a plaque on the newly constructed amphitheatre suggests that the same officials who financed the creation of the building also financed the carving of the plaque. Thus, this inscription provides a primary source describing the Roman perspective on amphitheatrical spectacle. It is, however, only by combining this evidence with knowledge of when the amphitheatre was built and its location that it becomes truly clear for what the amphitheatre was purposed. In the alternative classroom, with a majority of students ELLs, teachers can adapt DI to set lesson and curriculum goals through a range of instructional and management strategies to engage students through curiosity, promote understanding, and clarify understanding to incorporate learning in the classroom (Laureate Education, Inc., 2010a; Laureate Education, Inc., 2010b). Greek Architecture is one of the earliest forms of architecture and it is one that has influenced architects for centuries. Ancient Greece was a collection of hundreds of city states contributed throughout the Mediterranean and Black seas. Greek life was dominated by religion and politics. The religious temples and political buildings of the time were the biggest and most beautiful in history. The architecture was produced by Hellenic people on the Greek mainland, the Peloponnese, Aegean Islands, Anatolia, and Italy. It has flourished since it was produced and has been influencing other countries for centuries. Ancient Greek architects perfected the use of columns which was seen on all of their temples and government buildings. These columns came in three particular orders that were created during different times periods. The three defined orders are the Doric order, Ionic order, and Corinthian order. These orders serve the basis of Classic architecture. The Doric order was the earliest order of Greek architecture. This particular order was not overly decorative and served the sole purpose of being effective and supporting the buildings. In Doric temples, columns have no base and they look simple but strong.
